- 0:00 hey Rocky fans this is episode two of Going the Distance this is Ruben 0:05 speaking and we have Ryan in the other Corner in the other Corner wow the uh 0:11 Bell hasn't even rung yet and we're already going with the boxing puns the gloves are off the gloves are off again 0:17 here we go I hope you guys are ready to go to the distance did you remember yes 0:22 okay I I well I'm actually asking the audience to to follow to follow us on 0:27 this journey together finished listening to episode 1 maybe 5 0:32 minutes ago or 5 days ago we left off in in the pet store when uh Rocky and 0:38 Adrian met for the first time on screen that kind of almost ends act one so what 0:44 happens after that right after the pet store scene we see him do his secondary Duty as a lone shark collector of the 0:51 docks yes yes the thug and I just want to say that Rocky makes for a terrible 0:57 lone shark collector as we see throughout the series is he's got a heart of gold mhm he really can't do 1:03 what Gazo wants him to do which is break this guy's thumbs who owes money chases down a guy he acts a little tough at 1:09 first and when you first see him like oh boy this is a strong guy this guy's obviously very scared of him the guy 1:14 that owes money as he makes a threat to break his thumbs it doesn't happen he doesn't even collect all the cash doesn't take the guy's jacket that he 1:21 offers him for money if you want to play in the band you got to pay yeah it set the tone for fightings for the ring 1:29 which may have have upset people for Rocky 5 what do you mean by that because had the opportunity to beat this guy a 1:35 lot of boneheads would have if you were to generalize if you're were a pcture like a UFC fighter the guy would have punched the guy wouldn't have shown that 1:41 restraint but I think what it was too was Gazo wanted Rocky to break the thumbs I think if Rocky came back and 1:47 said Mr Gazo he didn't have all the money so I broke his thumbs I don't think he had the heart to do that to 1:53 another individual that wasn't in him cuz Mr Godel said when I tell you to do something you need to do it because it 1:59 makes me look so soft it makes me look bad as a lone Shar collector people are going to take money from me and they're going to think I don't have to pay back 2:05 because the thug that comes to collect isn't even going to break thumbs so Mr Gazo really he legitimately wanted 2:10 thumbs to be broken but we see here though that Gazo likes Rocky so it's a weird combination of we don't know what 2:15 their history is but they must be friends from high school or something because he's the worst lone shark 2:20 collector and Gaza wants to be a legitimate lone shark guy but he hires his friend or someone that he's got a 2:27 soft spot for even for Rocky his own Thug shows that he's likable likable even amongst the thugs yeah yeah he has 2:33 a humanity and pushes him away from his lone shark career I do like the little sequence when he's asked to take another 2:40 name was the name was Del Rio in the back of the car Rocky's taking out his notepad pen and he puts on these glasses 2:47 and I don't know why it kills her every time that he has to write down one name he has a the notepad and a pen and he's 2:52 has his glasses out in the car the name is never written down and then they have the conversation outside the car even 2:57 still the name isn't written down yeah as as gazel you know how do you spell Del Rio I always got a kick out it that 3:03 he needed the correct spelling of Del Rio yes that somehow would help him 3:09 identify like someh that would help him identify who the guy was that he was going to meet the dogs I always I try to 3:15 connect the real world is for you know for the movie yeah so even if Rocky got the wrong spelling what you gone to the 3:22 white pages and and gone through all the Dell re with two L's and not just one L and r 3:28 e o yeah so I always got kick out that he wanted the correct spelling of Del so as he wouldn't collect from the wrong 3:33 Del real in the docks it's a hat off to Stone's strong writing exactly those are 3:39 little points if you were given the task Reuben to write a movie to write a boxing movie you were even given the 3:44 general lineup the Rocky movie he's a down out luck on his luck boxer he's end of his prime he gets a big shot with the 3:51 champ go exactly would you have come up with the little inter you know well first of all Stallone didn't come up 3:57 with a boxing movie he came up with a love story correct and even more he came up boxing was an analogy for his own 4:04 acting career so in a way this is a romcom because it's so romantic it's romantic and there's humor in it and 4:11 there's humor and there's drama you should find one of those people that do the YouTube edits where they make one 4:17 movie look like another movie like the like a trailer yeah a trailer where they make The Shining The Shining is the The 4:22 Coming of Age drama family drama film it's a great Rocky's a romcom just lost the other half of the audience with that 4:29 stay with us guys hang in there what really kind of moves the movie Forward when Rocky loses his locker yes the 4:36 locker fast forward if we will to Creed and I don't want to give anything wi to Creed because it's still a fairly new movie we're going to get to Creed later 4:43 in our podcast of course don't worry but there's another really interesting Locker scene moment so I find the these 4:49 locker room scenes very important in a boxing man's career here in Rocky one we see the scene he goes to his locker a 4:55 humorous interplay happens here you see Rocky take the combo or take the lock do his combination doesn't get it does it 5:02 again doesn't open then he takes his hat off and in his hat on a piece of paper 5:08 is his combination you know so he has that piece of paper in his hat ready to 5:13 go at any time that he might happen which at this time he did forget his locker combination it doesn't open and 5:18 then he grabs the fire Hydra and fire extinguisher sorry smashes the Locker open he opens it up what I love so we 5:24 have to know that this is not a white man's Locker anymore we've seen him do this can't get his locker open he 5:30 smashes open Walker and he whips it open what do we have there variety of pictures of the 5:36 nonwhite females so we know as an audience member this is not WR but what I find funny why couldn't it have been 5:42 he could have very well been into the ebony sure sure it an e Ivory situation 5:48 yes but we it's 1976 he's Italian so the we see right away as a viewer those 5:54 pictures probably weren't his and we assume that's not his locker at that time yes of course the little guy comes in I forget his name name the guy who's 6:00 like janitor mhm Rocky asks Hey where's my stuff I love the wording here I 6:05 talked about instatic mhm again I love the words that they use in this movie and maybe we're Canadian we're not from 6:12 Philadelphia so maybe there's terms that they use all the time there that aren't used here I.E F said they're hanging up 6:18 here and the rocky says Vicky put my stuff on Skid Row yes yes and I love how the term SC like we know what he means 6:24 by saying that there's a variety of bags hanging next to Rockies those hooks on the wall is good row meaning he's out on 6:31 the streets he's out on the streets he's not welcome this is not his home he said I've come in here for 6 years that's been my locker for 6 years he put my 6:37 stuff on skid row and he asks Hey where's Mickey I got to talk to Mickey and the guy says well he's mad or he's 6:43 in a bad mood and the rocky says well he's always in a bad mood great introduction right there with we get a 6:48 little bit of information of how long Rocky's been at the gym he's really now the one thing that he loves is boxing he 6:55 doesn't even have this anymore he doesn't even have the gym to go to Mickey's gym so the owner Mickey puts 7:01 his stuff out on skid road so he's on the outs so he's sucking at his job sucks at his job has a crappy apartment 7:07 crappy apartment a little trivia here for you when Mickey goes to Rocky's 7:13 place and they're talking through the door right we are moving a little bit forward in that moment where he says 7:18 that the place stinks that was improvised that's awesome because the bathroom really 7:24 stunk somebody drop a deuce no it was it was a real it wasn't a set it was a real 7:30 real it's a real apartment and it really stunk well it's legitimately a really dingy looking apartment so I thought 7:35 there was just a set directors well they might have added to it of course with stuff but they had no smell Vision back then Stallone in that moment of anger 7:43 talking about his apartment since this whole place stinks it really did for him that's the moment in life when this happened when he lost the locker he was 7:49 going back to a place that stung I love those little things like you know the good as a script is sometimes in movies 7:55 I know this actors will if they're allowed to now you got to keep in mind some directors and writers will give you 8:01 no Freedom fact I don't know if you're a fan of Dexter Dexter I love his work he 8:06 does a great job out there I'm just started watching Dexter I'm in the third season and I went to the trivia page for Dexter cuz I enjoy the trivia without 8:12 the spoilers for Dexter there is absolutely zero improvising okay by the 8:17 actor zero so which I actually kind of like and I'll tell you why I like it it's because I also enjoy shows like K 8:23 enthusiasm where it's all improv so it's its own unique talent to completely improvise dialogue and story for a show 8:30 like Dexter what I actually kind of like about that so when I'm watching the acting and I'm watching the talking I find it intriguing that exactly what the 8:37 writer wrote in his on his computer so when the script came to these actors every little word and movement they're 8:43 told to do which I give complete credit then to the people that created the world be interesting to know what was 8:48 improvised and I actually don't I actually don't know what was improvised in that movie so it's kind of cool to hear that well actually there is do you 8:53 want to hear another trivia when he's running down the street doing the training they had no movie permits 8:59 that's right it was gorilla shot and the guy that throws in the fruit oh yes yeah I love this scene he toses him a fruit 9:04 turns catch that was improvised by the person who was truly not an actor not an 9:09 extra the shop owner and have threw him a piece of fruit that's America 1976 he did not know that he was going to be in 9:16 Rocky he no he wouldn't even known who Stallone was no no he wouldn't what I find interesting is during that Running 9:21 Scene through the market nobody chased after him nobody said hey Rocco nobody 9:27 would have known who this person was going to be later as the movies went forward there's thousands of people 9:33 behind where they're filming watching their hero and stone was talking about how when he walks down the streets of 9:39 Philadelphia Q Bruce Springsteen's music here yes yes when when St walks down the streets 9:46 of Philadelphia in his Rocky guard but not filming people will call him Rocky and they're not being flippant they're 9:52 not being silly they will treat him as Rocky Philly does have a Vibe I've been 9:58 there briefly it does have a different vibe than going to Spokan Washington that's character it it does we got a 10:04 Philly cheese steak there and we got it in a spot wanted to go find a real Philly in the hole in the wall to the 10:10 point where it was like I feel very uncomfortable Fish Out of Water may ask were you uncomfortable 10:15 because tables were dirty uh I didn't have time to check but it was a good it 10:21 was a good Philly cheese steak right yeah yeah were there other Mexicans there or were they were they were like 10:28 white salt when we live in western Canada on Vancouver Island there's different cultures and people that we 10:34 don't we're not around sure and actually we refer to that in part three there is that cultural I don't think it could fly 10:41 in today's writing but they refer to the cultural differences between black and 10:46 the white as rock was trained by a white man for two movies two and a half movies spoiler alert and 10:52 then we don't know which half we don't know which half and but then for part three he's trained by a I won't say who 10:58 in case you're not there yet but he's trained by a black person Rocky's actually kind of taught the Black 11:04 Culture way to move in the ring so it's actually addressed that there is a different fighting style to the two 11:09 different cultures when I was there I did stick out as a Soro we asked the guy to take a picture of us he oh yeah sure 11:17 sure just you know really friendly and then I had this feeling is he going to start running did he he he did not while 11:23 he still had my camera in his hands he's like man it's just been so tough the economy wow I'm really happy to be 11:30 taking this picture for you would you mind that is helping helping me out cuz I've helped you out okay so right away 11:36 it was a they saw me coming right so he took your photo yes let me guess did you give him some money yeah I found I found 11:43 a buck or two to to cuz I guarantee you well I shouldn't say I wonder what the alternate universe scenario would have 11:49 been if you said I wouldn't have had that picture no I think I think the I think the deal 11:55 was you get your camera back if you give me some money yes absolutely I'm glad you got the picture and your camera 12:02 that's you know what we'll we'll post maybe we'll post that picture that I took on on our Facebook page there you 12:07 go before you go on to the next topic there was another improvised scene that I can for the ice skating rink scene oh 12:14 yes but we're not there yet I know we're not there yet I know but this is that's a great that's a great story okay the 12:20 first date is a great story so I I save it I like it I like it I know where you're going it's interesting how if you 12:27 want we can talk about it it gets me know but a black trainer two and a half movies we fair enough touche touche so 12:34 the Infamous first date at the ice rink I think he used Infamous wrong sorry famous my bad Infamous is bad thing bad 12:42 thing Infamous yes because only the trivia part is it was bad luck for the crew that turned out to be fortuitous 12:49 for the movie okay so why why don't you fill us then because of the low budget gorilla style for the movie they didn't 12:55 have the script called for a full rink of people b 300 apparently right and 13:01 they had no money very limited budget so this was gorilla movie Style movie like for example the lighting they said they 13:07 used all natural light they didn't have they didn't have enough money for standup lamps so they used natural light 13:14 when it was dark it was dark when it was when they used the sunlight they said we used the sun because it was free the ice 13:20 skating rink scene on Thanksgiving day was closed for the movie mhm but they 13:25 couldn't afford the extras to skate around the rink for a couple days they said well what why don't we just film an empty rink and it's closed on a holiday 13:32 yes am I getting there is that what you're yeah that's exactly uh so bad luck for the money part but it's interesting how let's say if the studio 13:39 threw them here's $100 million make whatever you had on your script but it actually made that seem better it does 13:46 and I think that's really a lesson in life where you think that you might need XYZ and then it's going to work out or 13:53 then you're going to be happy then it's going to be perfect but when you're you know backs against the wall you can come 13:59 up with something create a little magic and that's what happened if they had a bigger budget it wouldn't have been so 14:04 romantic touching yes the guy saying we got to go yeah I love every time he said 14:10 7 Minutes Stallone's face again this guy was robbed I'm biased I'm completely 14:15 biased to me acting is not just about yelling and crying like they show in the Oscar Clips yeah I know you know what I 14:21 mean by that when they show the Oscar clip scene this it's the yelling crying scene but you were my daughter and I 14:27 can't believe you did this to me you know those scenes you know it's I find a lot of and I never learned how to read 14:35 yeah the scene here where uh where the guy offscreen is yelling you know s 14:40 minutes to go cuz he gave him the ring for 10 minutes 8 minutes too or 6 minutes too the very when you go back 14:47 and watch it you should go back and watch that scene look at Stallone's eyes as he looks off camera to the guy like 14:52 ah stop interrupting my already limited time on this date and I've got this flow 14:57 going with this girl I'm actually reaching out to her I'm getting to her I'm getting through to her I'm making her laugh so that was where less is more 15:04 bad luck turned into good luck if you hear dog barking that is beyond our control that's outside is that your dog 15:10 no he's right behind you oh hey trivia do you know who won the Oscar best 15:15 pitcher or actor actor in leading role I think I do can you give me the movie I know was kind of cheating I'll tell you 15:21 the movies and the actors that were nominees let me see if I remember correctly the movie that won I believe 15:26 was All the President's Men no network YES Network not the social network with 15:32 a no not the social network this is pre- internet this is just the network yeah the movie was Network the other nominees 15:39 in movies was Gianna Carlo Giani oh people still talk about that movie to 15:44 this day seven Beauties no he didn't win he was just another nominee oh that was his name I thought you give me so these 15:49 are the names of the people the person was G Gian Carlo Giani I'm sure I'm saying it wrong of seven Beauties 15:56 William Holden of network Robert dairo for taxi driver that's a tough one 16:01 that's a tough one okay I'll give him that but he didn't win it no he did not win Peter Finch also of network there 16:08 was two leading rols from the same movie wow has that ever happened before or 16:14 after I don't know that's crazy to have two leading roles so we don't know I don't know the movie network famous scene is I'm mad as hell and I'm not 16:21 going to take it anymore okay you heard that something about that the guy has a meltdown at the news network and he says 16:27 I think I'm mad as hell and and I'm not going to take it anymore that's one of the it's like the yo Adrian of network 16:34 yeah he dunway William Holden Peter Finch Robert dval it's Robert Alman film 16:39 am I remembering director Sydney lumat Lum Lum Sydney Lum for supporting actor 16:46 you know who Bert young of course was he not uh Burgess Meredith oh Bert young 16:51 wasn't no bur just uh oh Bert young as well yes so there was two yes oh but 16:59 support but supporting I can see more than one right that's what yes yeah lead is lead is interesting to me that they 17:05 had two leads cuz you only have one leader it's weird I guess I wonder how 17:10 they determined equal amount of screen time or they both had what 30 minutes screen time maybe I don't uh Talia Shire 17:16 tiia tiia I think it's may be Talia that's yeah who knows I've heard it pronounce both ways if she could call in 17:22 and let us know please do uh Miss Shire uh please uh our number is Rocky didn't 17:28 Lo did not win best pitcher but can you imagine though he wrote the movie he was probably just as proud to have the movie 17:34 win best pitcher oh yeah you know I don't think he was even thinking actor at that time he was probably 17:40 legitimately like just an honor to be can you he went from being a thug in a Woody Allen movie right yes to now be 17:48 nominated for best actor in a motion picture that he wrote could could have anyone really have done that Justice 17:56 what do you mean by that Stallone played Rocky could anyone else played oh the 18:01 character yeah well they the names they tossed around was uh B Bert Reynolds mhm 18:07 okay guys if you don't know who Bert Reynolds is my young listeners if you're so please Google Bert Reynolds and even 18:13 even give him some credit and do Bert Reynolds 1975 if you really want to get to know the man Google Playgirl B Bert 18:20 Reynolds bear rug can you imagine B Reynolds in the 18:27 ring no like what body mass the physical physiques aside can you 18:33 imagine these scenes him on the ice rink uh ironically they would have had a bigger budget with a bigger name the 18:40 reason why they had such a small budget given to the film because they thought it was going to be a failure so they 18:45 didn't want to they want to lose a lot of money so they said we'll give you a million dollars to make this film because we're going to lose it crazy and 18:52 it end up making a 100 times the budget we had um a jean hack 18:59 was considered for Rocky bboa again a good actor so they're going for the so 19:04 what they're what they're doing here is they're going for the Brad Pitts and the the aist aist the Tom Hanks even the 19:12 whoever was but it doesn't make sense again Jee Hackman great actor of the 70s and 80s and even 90s great actor but no 19:20 he could not do Rocky no for Apollo Creed you know this Ken Norton was a 19:26 professional boxer and he was set to play of Paul greed I think he filmed some footage he he dropped out 2 days 19:33 before shooting oh okay but the story basically of Carl weather is this is the what do you call it cliffnotes version 19:39 of the story but I've heard Stallone give it in interviews a few times but basically as we know he wrote he wrote 19:44 the screenplay the producers gave him pretty much open access to the whole 19:49 movie making process how the you know like directing uh casting Stone was in 19:55 there and as we know Stone went on to Direct parts two 3 4 6 the only ones he didn't direct 20:03 were Rockies 1 5 and Creed it's interesting that he was at the casting 20:08 part of it so when they're casting Apollo he was there which of course makes sense because he's going to play off this guy so they're doing the read 20:14 so Carl Weathers comes in of course Carl and like the rest of the world doesn't know who Stallone is Carl Weathers I don't even know what his position in 20:20 acting was at the time he came in and read the part for Apollo and he's reading the part of Apollo with Stallone 20:27 reading the part of Rocky you after the reading was done they said to Carl well thanks for coming in we'll let you know 20:34 but Carl asked well who's playing the part of Rocky you know I'm just curious who and stone goes well me and Carl goes 20:42 well I thought you were the writer goes well I am why why aren't you going to give me a real actor to play Rocky 20:48 Stallone then turned to the producers and said he's perfect yes yeah he did mention that but not in that detail so I 20:55 I appreciate that so Sloan and his Salone is the most self depreciating indiv he's that's what's great about him 21:02 even in real life he will never take accolades and say oh yeah that's me he loves not playing the fool but you know 21:10 what I mean he doesn't mind being the guy that maybe another type of actor might have been like how dare he oh I'm 21:16 sure somebody would I I'm the actor writer this is my show he actually turned to the producers and said saw 21:22 this opportunity said this conflict this energy the fact that he already hates me thinks I'm less than was legitimately 21:29 real and it actually continued throughout the series I know I 21:35 know but still he embraced it but Carl really went with it yeah which is great 21:41 which is great for whatever reason so I just find it interesting that even I'd 21:47 love to hear Carl weather's side oh Carl Carl if you have a hard time getting a 21:52 hold of us just talk to Miss sh she'll like we'll buy you a sandwich one thing I really speaking of 21:59 the last episode I know we got to kind of move forward a little bit here I thought you might like this after Rocky's fight against Spider Rico his 22:06 payment for the winner share $65 less 15 for the use of locker and uh the corner 22:12 man $5 for use of shower and towel yeah and 7% tax correct in the end he gets a 22:20 total of 4050 4055 yeah I remember the total being however 7% of 65 is 455 so 22:28 that in the other deductions he actually should have received 445 not 22:34 4055 Spider Rico did receive the correct amount interesting so they did the wrong 22:40 math for Rocket so even so he should have got more or he got too much so in the movie did he get 22:47 too much he got he got a dime too much oh he sure received so he caught a break 22:53 he get a lot for dime in 197 I think that's like a a movie and a soda pop yeah well no no now you're being silly 22:59 okay well maybe well good for him I'm glad he caught a break there this is the last kind of improv it's not really 23:05 improv can we mention the steps you're you're hating this you're hating well no I and I don't want to bore our listener 23:12 either in the sense that really not following any real structure here we're going in chronological order of the 23:17 movie so we can see so I can stay on track because I I I can talk so to ask your question I I'll talk about the 23:22 stairs I'll talk about I'll talk about Russia I'll talk about Mr T I'll talk 23:28 about Hogan you know come back for the stairs okay so the stairs to me is we 23:34 like come on the stairs is a character in the movies we could talk a lot about it but we'll get there okay we're 23:40 teasing the stairs folks but we're going to get there all right it's coming I lost track I I I don't know how we lost 23:46 track that's weird oh yeah his locker his stuff's on Skid 23:54 Row Skid Row have you actually seen Skid Row in concert yes uh I think we saw 23:59 well no actually did we see skid no we just saw Sebastian saw sebas the least singer of skid was Sebastian Bach we saw 24:06 him in a club in sui yes the day after my second son was born no no that was 24:11 Mega Death we saw Mega Death At The Commodore Ballroom the day after his second son was born we'll have to get we'll have to double check I promise you 24:18 okay we saw skid row no Sebastian Bach Sebastian Bach in 24:23 some it was a club it was a club it was pretty SAS but it's pretty crazy that we 24:28 did though do you remember I got to sing in the mic or shout on the mic which song was you called Monkey Business was 24:34 it Monkey Business yeah cuz you put the mic in the Monkey Business how many 24:40 people do you think were that I do remember that now um I would say maybe 300 uh maybe 3 to five somewhere in 24:48 there but you know I had a great time it was a fantastic show that's like a childhood dream right to to see your 24:54 band and this this would have been you know 16 15 16 years ago so I mean granted those the the Heyday of his 25:00 career was definitely over but not by a long time like we were early 20s right 25:06 yeah so that that was a fun time it was a great time it was that was a really fun fun show his stuff's on skid roll 25:12 Yes actually saw him twice cuz he opened up for Guns and Roses yes well yeah I saw that tour as well yeah but it was 25:19 the intimate the intimate uh Club there which at the same time I was a little 25:24 nervous it was I was a little nervous yeah so just just Google Siri for those 25:29 that uh we get to the meeting with Mickey so we see the first this is so this is 25:35 important now as a viewer you're now seeing the physical presence of Mickey mhm and he is not a big person he's a 25:42 little man but he's got he snars when he talks you know he's got that snarly 25:48 lemon vinegar V yes he goes up to well Rocky approaches approaches him and says 25:54 hey my locker man what' you do Mickey really does brush off and there very rude bites making the butt later so he 26:02 tells Rocky hey you know what you had your chance you suck I gave it to a contender which is Dipper where's Dipper 26:09 Now where's Dipper now he did not have Dipper Parts five or there there was no 26:16 sequel to Dipper you imagine if they instead of doing Creed they they did 26:23 Dipper coming this Thanksgiving Dipper Dipper is a men 26:28 fella he was again of the nonwhite uh uh 26:34 I did not notice I don't notice those things well I don't notice them either but I'm only letting maybe for those 26:39 people who who might notice let let them know that we to is there there must be a 26:45 fan of the movie who is visually impaired oh yeah they call it the direct descriptive video you've heard of that 26:51 descrip yeah yeah I would love to be that guy Rocky approaches Mickey Mickey's in the Mickey City next to the 26:58 ring yes watching a menacing black man practice punching how you exp black 27:06 I'm terrible about the sort of thing like I'm okay if you call me white now obviously I'm not white like you paint 27:12 the wall white yeah you could say that I'm you remember crayons yes flesh 27:17 colored they have flesh that's crazy like yes it's like growing up my crayon 27:25 has had flesh on it again Google this this is not a joke we'll put this on our 27:31 Facebook page this it's isn't that crazy it never even occurred to me cuz as a child why would you don't see the world 27:37 in black and white you given a crayon and you have cherry red yes you have a 27:44 black mhm you have white you have white you have yellow and uh then you have 27:51 flesh flesh again what were we talking about uh Dipper Dipper the one good 27:56 thing about Dipper is so he's getting uh so Mickey has chosen Dipper to be his 28:02 Contender the I guess he's the best guy in the gym mhm the insult the Dipper throws Rocky's way as he's leaving is Yo 28:09 rocky rocky turns around goes yeah I dig your locker man and then Mickey finds it funny mhm he actually repeats dig his 28:17 locker so we actually see a really kind of a not a not a very like he's already 28:23 kind of backing his player a little bit they're already really really kind of pushing Rocky out of the gym out of his 28:28 life Mickey and Dipper were forming their new Bond they were forming a bond that would later be formed yeah but but 28:34 that's what happens right that kind of alpha male environment sure of you know you're old news get out of here what are 28:41 you going to do I own the gym and I'm bigger than you authoritatively yeah authoritative wouldn't it be interesting 28:47 if Rocky decided that's it he jumps off the Philadelphia Bridge into the river there I wonder what Dipper's career 28:54 would have been like short movie it' be called Dipper instead of Rocky May have you ever seen that uh on YouTube it's a 29:00 little funny clips they put together of uh if movies ended when the title was mentioned in the movie no no I haven't 29:06 seen that Rocky would have been a very short film I think it's literally in the very first few minutes people are calling his 29:13 name from the crowd there I always like it when bands somehow put their names in a song Let's be clear here we have to be 29:21 clear about the genre of music sure different genres maybe the nonwhite CL t 29:28 if you're a rapper you mention your name that's standard standard absolutely standard we listen to metal and rock and 29:34 roll growing these bands growing up but every now and then a band would mention its own name of the the metal variety I 29:40 always got to kick out of that yeah like uh Guns and Roses Everything Was Roses when we held on to our guns right that 29:46 was the closest they ever got they threw uh Aerosmith did it in 1985 with done with mirrors what did how did that go 29:53 they said the boys from Aerosmith oh okay yeah yeah yeah they actually referred to themselves saying saying so 29:58 they're talking to a manager or something the boys from Aros Smith I think axtion SL for guitar solo nope no 30:05 no no no it's Lenny kravit and mama said that's right he says slash poison always 30:13 mention CCE I I think I think you have total class you do not I think the idea is you 30:21 do not mention your bands naming but every it's fun to go through Springsteen does for the EAS stre band like you know 30:27 big gu CL Clarence blew his eye out on this guy Clarence is boy a a 30:36 [Laughter] black he is a a large black man who 30:43 plays the saxophone uh who's now passed away me rest in peace but he playing the 30:50 saxophone for years with the Easter years yes but I guess a few years before his passing he blew so hard he blew so 30:58 hard into the saxophone that his eye popped out on stage that happens CU your your body just wears it wears it wears I 31:05 can never I could never look at IM can you imagine the vision that you'd see like like you'd be seeing like a bird 31:12 have you ever seen an eye popped out no thank you no no it's exactly what you'd imagine to be really have you yes how 31:19 have you I don't think I've ever Googled it I feel like the internet might have provided the image I feel sick to my stomach I had a 31:26 I had a kid in my class in school Tim yam no no not Tim yam Tim 31:33 yam he stabbed me the arm with a pencil not him uh Jordy Jordy name sounds 31:39 familiar his name is Jordy I forget his last name which might be for good but he had a glass eye oh okay this is St about 31:45 yes i' never seen glass ey before cuz I was young it was grade two three and four or sorry grades four five and six 31:51 or whatever was he had a class eye and his eyelid was actually halfway down a little bit or his yeah so it kind of 31:57 like kept it in his eyelid was kind of down to keep the glass eye in but he would take out his eyeball every now and 32:04 then his glass eye and just roll around in his hand and put it back in his eye so was an actual ball yes it's a glass 32:09 eye okay some people will have like a contact that goes over no he had the ball so he had like an empty socket 32:15 interesting what happens with the eyeball is you know that paddle game the paddle 32:23 game where you had the paddle the ball attached on the string and you hit the paddle yeah yeah the ping pong on on the paddle just take away the paddle and 32:28 that's your eyeballs falling out of your head wow wow yeah so back to 32:33 [Laughter] Rocky Dipper I think we're yeah 32:40 we're this is the most attention Dipper has ever gone well hey he died his 32:46 locker the next scene Rocky goes to the pet shop but what I find interesting we already start to see a little bit more 32:52 character with Rocky and how he deals with despite what he goes through he 32:57 actually deals with these things very well so he goes to Adrian right away and says you know I had a rough day at work today type dialogue I have my locker 33:05 taken away from me the first thing he says after that is that's okay lockers are 33:10 trouble yeah he goes lockers are nothing but trouble anyways I think I've had about $20 stolen from my locker in the last 33:17 six years and what I find funny is he how 33:24 his segue makes no sense yes he's saying lockers are trouble it's not a big deal 33:29 because now that I don't have a locker anymore I I now have $3.33 extra year how he reasons the 33:36 lockers are in trouble now it's not a big deal I don't have to worry about lockers anymore cuz my cash won't get stolen anymore yes when you're getting 33:43 paid $40 a fight an extra $3.33 is going to yeah it's going to take you but he's 33:48 just trying to blow it off it's his own way of feeling like yeah he's like it really does obviously hurt him why would 33:54 he even bring it up I caught this Rocky fans you know you know what this is the ball you know the ball that he throws 34:01 around yeah yeah I caught the first time we see it on screen oh okay after his 34:06 locker incident he throws it up and yes but he picked it off the counter oh he 34:13 didn't take it off his pocket I have to go back if you guys want to call me out on he's a klepto well he walked out with 34:18 the turtle food without paying for it wow and cuz Gloria the owner said hey Rocky you got to pay for that when he's 34:26 got the turtle food when he leaves goes crime don't pay WOW and he walked out with the turtle food and didn't pay for 34:32 it we know that he's not opposed that kind of skim him from the top a little bit be hard to feed turtles turtles yeah 34:40 he found the ball which makes sense it would be a pet store ball yeah prob like a c for C he picked it off the counter 34:47 played with it and he and we see that ball for every film thereafter wow I did not know that I didn't know until I cuz 34:53 of when I was watching this movie for the podcast now watching it with kind of like podcast eyes so to speak I like 34:59 there's the ball he rolled it off the counter and then he walked out with it wow yeah interesting I always thought he 35:05 was a good role model well I think we should probably just end the podcast actually yeah guys 35:11 I Rocky has flaws I think we should stop here but that's what makes him human 35:16 that's what makes him relatable interesting that he does have flaws every film he has something that he kind of struggles with so do we all we do 35:23 yeah well at least I do talks to Adrian uh he says to her standby for more jokes tomorrow so this 35:30 is something that is ongoing for him that he will create or invent as he says new jokes to give to her the next day 35:36 all right well after the Pet Shop meeting with Adrien the next uh the next event in the movie is the first meet 35:42 with Paulie and we're going to have to do that for The Following episode because we're running out of cassette 35:48 tape right I could see the little dark wheel on the one side did you record over 35:55 last that record over at yeah on the iass said tap I might have I might have 36:00 you got to break that protective tab yeah actually before we and I had a 36:07 little memory today that's Rocky related it might be out of sequence but I remember being my daughter's age verus 36:13 five I had a little red kuara BMX bike yes I remember the bike actually I do 36:19 remember it do you remember I remember being jealous of the bike in this cuz it was a cool little bike that I never had 36:24 that I never had a cool little bike at that you remember dad coming home with four bikes in the trunk of our Buick 36:29 with a 1979 Buick lasaber bench seats three in the front three in the back 36:35 yeah family this carried our family of six two bench seats in a beautiful sa oh my gosh you sat in the middle front for 36:42 years years years and all four I believe you self included all four Sons got the 36:49 driver's license on that car I didn't get myself my D license in that car oh you didn't well the first three then 36:55 yeah okay mine is a Pon grand dam you took the test in the grand dam yeah all 37:00 right well that's how I was born I I I cannot choose my birth order that might explain your 37:06 driving we learn how to drive at a beast you drove the the grand K we don't 37:14 get me wrong I I drove the Buick but I didn't get my license right but to go for the to go for the Buick a 79 Buick 37:22 saber yes to a 1992 Grand D Pontiac Grand D it was like a Stone Age to no no 37:29 it was it was like Flintstones to Jetson's it was amazing it went from an AM stereo to a CD player yeah it the 37:35 jump was almost shocking we would have a cassette stereo that we'd bring into the 37:41 car for our family vacations right it only had AM radio it only 37:47 had AM radio so anyways I'm writing on you remember the cassette player that we 37:53 had a Fisher Price cassette player yeah I do I had I'm sure I I on it but I put 37:58 the eye of the tiger music the the cassette in there and I put it on the handlebars and I went riding around on 38:04 our street like full blast to 10 I the tiger going really fast some neighbor 38:11 heard and saw me doing this and just how laughing I was so embarrassed I just 38:16 kind of quickly even quicker you know but he might have thought it was cute or fun well yes but I was five for me I was 38:22 like I'm the real deal right like I Hade the tiger I was going for it I had the music playing you know oh I can't wait 38:29 to talk about Rocky 3 they're all good they're all good we'll talk about paully though next time Act One a has been done 38:37 we'll do as Act 2 b in the next and then 3ish after that everyone got that all 38:43 right ding ding ding ding ding
