- 0:05Speaker 1: Hey, guys, we're back normally normal takes for women. It's
- 0:09Speaker 1: weird and I'm Carol Marcowaz.
- 0:11Speaker 2: How's it going over there, mary Country?
- 0:13Speaker 1: I'm good. Here, I am in the brand new state
- 0:15Speaker 1: of Maryland.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Oh wait, it's just Virginia, but we're trying to become
- 0:21Speaker 3: Maryland in California over here.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Yeah, well it went the way you said it was
- 0:26Speaker 2: gonna go, which just shows how you have your finger
- 0:31Speaker 2: on the pulse.
- 0:32Speaker 3: I guess I'm also just like a little a little
- 0:35Speaker 3: black pilled. I assumed that the Virginia referendum to change
- 0:41Speaker 3: the very fair five to six congressional delegation map of
- 0:44Speaker 3: the state of Virginia, which is a purple state leaning blue,
- 0:47Speaker 3: to a ten to one Democrat dominated map, would pass
- 0:51Speaker 3: by an annoyingly small margin that I would then look
- 0:55Speaker 3: back and say, Wow, if there had been some concerted
- 0:58Speaker 3: and organized effort to persuade people that this is a
- 1:01Speaker 3: bad idea, we might have won.
- 1:03Speaker 1: And in fact, that is what appears has happened.
- 1:07Speaker 3: It was about a three point loss right now, it's
- 1:10Speaker 3: about seventy to ninety thousand votes. It is not a
- 1:17Speaker 3: good result. It will face legal challenge, as most redistrictings do,
- 1:22Speaker 3: particularly partisan gerrymanders of this kind. It will face legal
- 1:26Speaker 3: challenges at the Virginia Supreme Court that include, you know
- 1:32Speaker 3: that it violated several statutes getting onto the ballot because
- 1:36Speaker 3: they misused a special session of the legislation to do it,
- 1:40Speaker 3: of the legislature to do it. They then didn't serve
- 1:43Speaker 3: the measure to the public ninety days before the voting,
- 1:46Speaker 3: which they are supposed to do according to statutes. Several
- 1:49Speaker 3: things over they violated just fairly sloppy ball in order
- 1:52Speaker 3: to get this done. And then also statutes require them
- 1:56Speaker 3: to have like contiguous and compact national districts, which is
- 2:01Speaker 3: something that could be argued these are not as And
- 2:06Speaker 3: I my biggest issue with it, just from a like
- 2:10Speaker 3: principal stance is and the for people for free people
- 2:14Speaker 3: in a state is that the richest county in the
- 2:18Speaker 3: United States. Maybe Louden might outdo it, but Fairfax County
- 2:22Speaker 3: is perhaps the richest county in the United States, and
- 2:25Speaker 3: it is split into five slices that then go down
- 2:30Speaker 3: into the rest of the state and pull some rural
- 2:34Speaker 3: and red folks into it, but it's dominated by these
- 2:37Speaker 3: highly populous, very rich blue areas so that five US
- 2:42Speaker 3: Congress people, all Democrats, can sit within like a handful
- 2:47Speaker 3: of zip codes and never leave basically, and that will
- 2:51Speaker 3: be the representation of half of the delegation to DC.
- 2:57Speaker 3: I don't think that's good.
- 2:58Speaker 2: No, it's not. And I saw people who ostensibly are
- 3:03Speaker 2: on the right saying that they voted yes to basically
- 3:07Speaker 2: punish Republicans, And it's like, do you not know that
- 3:13Speaker 2: everybody you hate it's a momentary thing. Donald Trump is
- 3:17Speaker 2: not going to be here forever. You just hurt your
- 3:20Speaker 2: own state because you just don't like Donald Trump so much. Ridiculous.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Yeah, it's also.
- 3:28Speaker 3: The part that I don't I really don't like, is
- 3:31Speaker 3: the is the gaslighting about.
- 3:33Speaker 1: I'm voting for democracy.
- 3:35Speaker 3: I'm voting because I hate jerrymandering and changing rules to
- 3:40Speaker 3: change rules and jerrymander. Right, that doesn't make any sense.
- 3:44Speaker 3: I wish you would just be Louise Lucas, who is
- 3:47Speaker 3: our absolutely insane democratic leader in the Virginia Legislature, and
- 3:51Speaker 3: just say like, no, I'm going to drink your tears.
- 3:53Speaker 1: This is what this is for, right, right.
- 3:55Speaker 2: I just prefer yeah, version be honest. Yeah, I think
- 3:59Speaker 2: that is what I would appreciate about it this whole
- 4:02Speaker 2: We did it for democracy, Like, come on, democracy.
- 4:07Speaker 3: I am somewhat ambivalent on jerrymandering, like I don't love it,
- 4:11Speaker 3: but we understand that it is part of the game.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Virginia Democrats said, we have to retaliate because Texas, well, Texas,
- 4:17Speaker 3: whatever Texas gained, which by the way, Republicans were robbed
- 4:21Speaker 3: of by the census in twenty twenty, which is validated
- 4:25Speaker 3: by the US Census. And I don't know why we
- 4:27Speaker 3: have to sit around on our hands and wait for
- 4:28Speaker 3: twenty thirty to.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Get it fixed, right whatever.
- 4:32Speaker 3: They're mad at Texas that was evened out and more
- 4:34Speaker 3: possibly by California, and they're like.
- 4:36Speaker 1: No, no, no, we have to keep going.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Right Well, now, I think if the Republicans could grow
- 4:41Speaker 2: a pair, we have to keep going. We have to
- 4:44Speaker 2: do it in places like Florida and elsewhere. I mean,
- 4:47Speaker 2: I just think, like there's a lot, there's been a
- 4:50Speaker 2: lot of studies as to who has room to grow,
- 4:53Speaker 2: and it's Republicans. And you don't like jerrymandering, you better
- 4:57Speaker 2: start liking it, because this is what it's going to be.
- 5:00Speaker 2: And now that's it. It is game over there cannot
- 5:03Speaker 2: be any more like, oh no, we principled, we don't
- 5:07Speaker 2: want to do this, we have to do this.
- 5:08Speaker 3: And in Indiana, Republicans did a deal to de escalate,
- 5:13Speaker 3: and what.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Happened Virginia just re escalated.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Right, I want to can't do that.
- 5:19Speaker 3: I want to note this tweet from Mark Caputo as
- 5:21Speaker 3: a reporter I think lives in Florida or is closely followed. Yeah,
- 5:26Speaker 3: and he notes this, Florida has a surprisingly clear constitutional
- 5:31Speaker 3: amendment passed in twenty ten by sixty two point nine
- 5:33Speaker 3: percent of voters that prohibits redistricting with the intent to
- 5:36Speaker 3: favor or disfavor incumbents or political parties. It's hard to
- 5:39Speaker 3: get around that absent novel rulings from Scotis or Florida supremes. Mark,
- 5:44Speaker 3: wait till I tell you what happened in Virginia. In
- 5:48Speaker 3: Virginia in twenty twenty and I among them, sixty plus
- 5:52Speaker 3: percent of Virginians voted to have a bipartisan commission do
- 5:56Speaker 3: the districts. And Sean Trindy, by the way, who I
- 5:59Speaker 3: always forget, I know the guy personally who made those
- 6:01Speaker 3: fair maps. Yeah, comes up with this along with the
- 6:04Speaker 3: bipartisan Redistricting Commission in the Supreme Court, they get them in.
- 6:08Speaker 3: We had our say on this. The Virginian Democrats are like, oh, we.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Put this to the voters.
- 6:13Speaker 3: It was already put to the voters, right, And my
- 6:16Speaker 3: issue is now Liberals are like, well, you could just
- 6:19Speaker 3: have a national ban on jerrymandering and then everything would
- 6:21Speaker 3: be fixed.
- 6:22Speaker 1: And you guys are just mad because you lost.
- 6:26Speaker 3: I have to trust you, yeah, to actually maintain the
- 6:31Speaker 3: gerrymander ban when it's not convenient for you. And in
- 6:35Speaker 3: New York State and Virginia and California, all the places
- 6:41Speaker 3: where Democrats have come into power after a jerrymandering ban,
- 6:44Speaker 3: guess what happens. They engineer the redistricting Commission to make
- 6:49Speaker 3: it theirs, or they just wipe it out completely. So no,
- 6:52Speaker 3: I don't trust you, and I also don't think it
- 6:54Speaker 3: would be constitutional necessarily to do that.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that Florida Republicans will figure out a
- 7:03Speaker 2: way around it. I think they're just as smart as
- 7:05Speaker 2: the Virginia Democrats. So what happens?
- 7:09Speaker 1: So a few interesting points.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Most of the state veered right in the makeup of
- 7:17Speaker 3: its vote from over twenty twenty five, which was a
- 7:20Speaker 3: very bad.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Election for Republicans.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Over twenty twenty four, which was a pretty good election
- 7:26Speaker 3: for Republicans in this state, a bunch of areas shifted right.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Northern Virginia shifted left and pretty aggressively. And I do
- 7:35Speaker 3: want to note that back when we were talking about
- 7:38Speaker 3: the Winsome Sears for governor race in Virginia as a
- 7:40Speaker 3: bellweather of sorts, when the combination of DOGE and it
- 7:45Speaker 3: being problematic for federal workers and the shutdown happened. I
- 7:49Speaker 3: don't know if I actually said it. I think I
- 7:51Speaker 3: said it various places. I'm not sure if I said
- 7:52Speaker 3: it here. It was like I think that I think
- 7:54Speaker 3: this race has done so because those two things in
- 7:58Speaker 3: this highly populous reason region that affect those.
- 8:01Speaker 1: People means they go hard, hard left.
- 8:06Speaker 3: But there is some good news in the fact that
- 8:08Speaker 3: this electorate looked like a twenty twenty one right leaning
- 8:12Speaker 3: Yunkin electorate instead of a twenty twenty four Kamala by
- 8:15Speaker 3: six electorate. I'm or Spaenberger by fifteen right, So you know,
- 8:22Speaker 3: it ain't there ain't no moral victories in this, but
- 8:24Speaker 3: there is something to build on.
- 8:25Speaker 2: I think it's just upsetting that the GOP couldn't find
- 8:31Speaker 2: its footing here. And if they couldn't find it here,
- 8:34Speaker 2: where are they going to find it over the next
- 8:36Speaker 2: year or two. I mean, so Republican alliging groups spent
- 8:40Speaker 2: twenty to thirty million, Democrat aligning groups spent seventy to
- 8:44Speaker 2: eighty million. I mean that's different. And I just you know,
- 8:50Speaker 2: it's quite being outspent two to one on something that
- 8:54Speaker 2: matters as much losing four House seats is to me
- 8:58Speaker 2: not acceptable.
- 8:59Speaker 3: Well, and it's also who not just the amount of spending,
- 9:03Speaker 3: it's the weight spent, because I will tell you as
- 9:05Speaker 3: somebody who should have been targeted right and was targeted
- 9:09Speaker 3: by Yes.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Okay, From the no side, I.
- 9:13Speaker 3: Saw two YouTube ads I heard maybe I don't think
- 9:18Speaker 3: I heard any radio ads, but my husband did.
- 9:21Speaker 1: I heard no podcast ads. I saw no TV ads.
- 9:26Speaker 1: That is not a coordinated effort to convince people right.
- 9:31Speaker 3: And on the other side, I saw Yes ads starting
- 9:35Speaker 3: at the Olympics and all the way through the Olympics.
- 9:39Speaker 1: And I heard Barack Obama on Yes four times.
- 9:44Speaker 3: A day, four times a day, on the radio, on podcasts,
- 9:48Speaker 3: on TV, whatever it was, he was there. The one
- 9:51Speaker 3: thing I did get was mailer's but I think you know,
- 9:55Speaker 3: guy and I have been like talking on the phone
- 9:57Speaker 3: writing ads like where are they because you get youngin
- 10:01Speaker 3: and you get one Democrat who's opposed to this, and
- 10:04Speaker 3: you put them together, and he was We were joking
- 10:07Speaker 3: this morning, just so like Virginians came together in twenty
- 10:11Speaker 3: twenty to decide that we wanted to bipartisan commission to
- 10:15Speaker 3: take it out of the hands of power hungry politicians.
- 10:18Speaker 3: Now they want to give it back to power hungry politicians.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Say no to that effort.
- 10:23Speaker 3: On April twenty first, done and done.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Roll it all day long, every day.
- 10:30Speaker 2: I'd hire you too, for sure. I don't know. I actually, so,
- 10:35Speaker 2: where did Republicans even spend that amount of money?
- 10:38Speaker 1: Well, that's I don't understand, Carol inefficient.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Well, and it's also you know, it's not like when
- 10:46Speaker 3: things happen that are consequential in say like Kansas, you
- 10:50Speaker 3: be like, oh, well, it's bad that they missed that
- 10:53Speaker 3: because they're too dedicated to coastal cities.
- 10:55Speaker 1: And that's a problem.
- 10:57Speaker 3: There's not even that bad excuse here, right, this is
- 11:01Speaker 3: this is happening in your backyard. You all are here,
- 11:04Speaker 3: and as you noticed, I talked about it a lot
- 11:06Speaker 3: and have been following it right closely. But yeah, I
- 11:10Speaker 3: just think a all you had to do was pull
- 11:13Speaker 3: one point five one point seven points away, and I
- 11:16Speaker 3: think you could have done it.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, Look, I learned about it almost entirely from you,
- 11:23Speaker 2: so which is I love you. But that's a problem,
- 11:28Speaker 2: that's really an issue that the only place I heard
- 11:31Speaker 2: about it was on my own show.
- 11:32Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't know what it means.
- 11:36Speaker 3: Next we'll we'll you'll have on the ground reporting from Florida.
- 11:40Speaker 1: I would imagine there will be a more concerted effort
- 11:42Speaker 1: there to.
- 11:43Speaker 3: I should help you surparized yea, And yeah, it's not
- 11:50Speaker 3: it's not great. When I think about, uh, exporting the
- 11:55Speaker 3: wisdom and governance of the county in which I currently
- 11:58Speaker 3: live to the rest of the Virginia, I say, I'm sorry,
- 12:01Speaker 3: rest of Virginia. That's not gonna be good. We don't
- 12:05Speaker 3: do things great here. In fact, what used to be
- 12:08Speaker 3: a national jewel in public schooling and public facilities and
- 12:13Speaker 3: services and way of life and quality of life is
- 12:17Speaker 3: now pretty ratchets.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not great. It's not great.
- 12:24Speaker 2: It's a bummer man.
- 12:26Speaker 3: On that point, let me just add two Northern Virginia stories,
- 12:30Speaker 3: because why there are always a couple in Arlington which
- 12:34Speaker 3: went super far left on this. In Arlington last week,
- 12:37Speaker 3: a woman was assaulted attempted rape by an illegal alien
- 12:42Speaker 3: with twenty five former charges, at one of them attempting
- 12:47Speaker 3: to disarm a police officer.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Why is he not in prison?
- 12:51Speaker 3: He assaulted her twice because she got away from him
- 12:53Speaker 3: once and he tried again, and she was only saved
- 12:55Speaker 3: because some bystanders figured out what was happening and saved her.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Feral government is currently basically begging them not to let
- 13:02Speaker 3: this guy out onto the streets. His probation officer had,
- 13:05Speaker 3: of course told prosecutors he's quite dangerous, and nonetheless here
- 13:10Speaker 3: we are. I have no confidence that they will send
- 13:14Speaker 3: him to Ice, that he will be deported, that he
- 13:16Speaker 3: will even be punished. And then we have the grown
- 13:19Speaker 3: man attending Fairfax County High schools who grouped between nine
- 13:24Speaker 3: and thirteen young women in the hallways in school. I
- 13:30Speaker 3: believe his charges were somewhat downgraded to assault and battery.
- 13:34Speaker 3: He will now serve four months, and again there is
- 13:39Speaker 3: no guarantee that he will be punished beyond that or
- 13:44Speaker 3: sent out of the country. He will probably go back
- 13:46Speaker 3: into Fairfax's public schools as an adult who has assaulted.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Sexually assaulted miners inside the school setting, and those schools
- 13:54Speaker 1: probably won't even tell parents that he arrived there when
- 13:57Speaker 1: he arrives back in those schools.
- 13:59Speaker 2: This sounds less than ideal.
- 14:01Speaker 1: It's not great.
- 14:02Speaker 3: And further in the reporting on the sentencing, some of
- 14:05Speaker 3: the victims this is how wacky this place is. The
- 14:10Speaker 3: victims of this man are saying, I want to stipulate
- 14:15Speaker 3: that I'm not racist and xenophobic. I just don't like
- 14:18Speaker 3: being sexually assaulted in the hallways at school, because that's
- 14:21Speaker 3: not what you must say.
- 14:22Speaker 2: By being sexually assaulted.
- 14:24Speaker 3: That's what you must say to be listened to, to
- 14:27Speaker 3: be believed in Fairfax County.
- 14:30Speaker 1: So it's the downward spiral begins.
- 14:34Speaker 2: My friends, Well, we're rooting for you, guys, but also
- 14:38Speaker 2: welcoming you to Florida, to the great state of Florida.
- 14:42Speaker 2: A different decision.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Yeah, oh my goodness.
- 14:45Speaker 3: It's also I do want to say a lot of
- 14:47Speaker 3: people are like, oh, we were outspent by this much.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Fine, they did the right thing by spending a lot
- 14:51Speaker 1: of money.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Yeah, that would matter to them they wanted.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, they didn't do the right thing in getting
- 14:58Speaker 3: it on the ballot in the right way.
- 15:00Speaker 2: A morally wrong, politically correct yep.
- 15:05Speaker 1: So they got their dub.
- 15:07Speaker 2: All right, Well, we're going to continue the fight and
- 15:11Speaker 2: see where we end up. We will keep you all
- 15:13Speaker 2: posted about that, and we're going to take a short
- 15:15Speaker 2: break and come right back with more on normally. We
- 15:22Speaker 2: are back on normally where On Tuesday, the FBI and
- 15:26Speaker 2: the Justice Department announced charges against the Southern Poverty Law Center, which,
- 15:32Speaker 2: if you don't know anything about them, they have nothing
- 15:34Speaker 2: to do with the South, nothing to do with poverty,
- 15:36Speaker 2: nothing to do with law, and they are accused of
- 15:40Speaker 2: funneling millions of dollars to white supremacist and extremist groups. Now, again,
- 15:45Speaker 2: if you don't know about this organization, they say that
- 15:48Speaker 2: they fight white supremacist and extremist groups. So the fact
- 15:52Speaker 2: that they're funding them comes as a bit of a surprise,
- 15:56Speaker 2: although I have to say I'm very, very not surprised.
- 16:00Speaker 2: It's like it's something you assume but you can't prove.
- 16:04Speaker 2: And that's where we are. So the SPLC says that
- 16:08Speaker 2: they fight these groups, and now it turns out that
- 16:10Speaker 2: they funded groups like the KKK and the Patriot Front.
- 16:14Speaker 3: It's wild well, and their argument is, we have informants
- 16:19Speaker 3: that help us figure things out about how to protect people,
- 16:22Speaker 3: and then we passed that on the law enforcement. The
- 16:25Speaker 3: numbers of what they were paying, yeah these peoples.
- 16:29Speaker 2: I read those or yeah, yeah, So they paid the
- 16:32Speaker 2: National Alliance affiliate over a million dollars, the Aryan Nation's
- 16:37Speaker 2: affiliate three hundred, over three hundred k Unite the Right, which,
- 16:41Speaker 2: as you may remember, was the Charlottesville rally that was
- 16:45Speaker 2: which they condemned, of course wholeheartedly. They paid one guy
- 16:49Speaker 2: there two hundred and seventy thousand dollars, one of the
- 16:52Speaker 2: leaders a former National Alliance chairman. Again, that's the same
- 16:56Speaker 2: group they paid over a million, made one hundred and
- 16:59Speaker 2: forty thousand, former KKK members made over seventy three thousand,
- 17:03Speaker 2: American Front president over nineteen thousand. I mean, these numbers
- 17:08Speaker 2: are insane.
- 17:10Speaker 1: I mean we've been made to answer for Charlottesville for years.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Were you paid any money, Carol, I like money Charlottesville.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Maybe not for that, Okay, I would like to be
- 17:23Speaker 2: paid to defend, you know, the fact that racism is
- 17:27Speaker 2: not as big a problem in the US as the
- 17:30Speaker 2: SPLC would like it to be. It's like, again, yeah,
- 17:34Speaker 2: the ls.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Sees demand for white supremacy the supply, and they.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Have to create the supply.
- 17:42Speaker 3: But like, how ludicrous, Chris is it that anyone right
- 17:45Speaker 3: of center is smeared with Unite the Right and torch
- 17:49Speaker 3: bearing Charlottesville guys. But the actual people paying the torch
- 17:54Speaker 3: bearing Charlottesville Nazis to be there, they're the saviors.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Yeah, it's quite the thing. It's also just interesting because
- 18:06Speaker 2: the you know, we see the Patriot Front guys come
- 18:09Speaker 2: out of a truck dressed identically and everybody kind of
- 18:13Speaker 2: jokes at their FEDS. They could easily be SPLC. And
- 18:17Speaker 2: that's what makes the most sense here. Kira Davis posted
- 18:22Speaker 2: about this, said, it's the scandal of the century. The
- 18:25Speaker 2: SPLC funded the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, which
- 18:28Speaker 2: gave America the now thoroughly and repeatedly debunked. Very fine
- 18:32Speaker 2: people on both sides lie that nearly tore this whole
- 18:35Speaker 2: country apart. Some of you are still estranged from your
- 18:38Speaker 2: families because of what you believe happened that day. Some
- 18:41Speaker 2: of you have destroyed your closest relationships over it, and
- 18:44Speaker 2: it was funded by the most prestigious left wing civil
- 18:47Speaker 2: rights organization in America. They funded the KKK. This is
- 18:50Speaker 2: a scandal that extends far beyond financial corruption. It is
- 18:53Speaker 2: treason and people need to go to prison for this. Yeah.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Her last line is and maybe we need a public hanging. Okay,
- 18:59Speaker 2: maybe not. But I was with you right up until
- 19:02Speaker 2: that last night.
- 19:03Speaker 3: And like for my for our friends of the left,
- 19:06Speaker 3: are you excited that your money went to actual Nazis?
- 19:11Speaker 3: Because that's what they're doing with it. And I see
- 19:14Speaker 3: a lot of people rationalizing it and saying it's fine.
- 19:17Speaker 1: The SPOC is not a law enforcement organization.
- 19:21Speaker 3: Right, they don't even even paying informants in the capacity
- 19:26Speaker 3: of law enforcement is very ethically and tactically challenging to do.
- 19:33Speaker 3: And I just three hundred thousand. Any of you ever
- 19:38Speaker 3: gotten three hundred thousand dollars from an NGO? All of
- 19:41Speaker 3: the left is like, actually I have several.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Times I haven't.
- 19:45Speaker 2: I haven't either, I haven't.
- 19:47Speaker 3: But the Nazis have And like one when if they say, oh, well,
- 19:50Speaker 3: this guy was just part of the unit, right, No,
- 19:53Speaker 3: he was. He was gathering people and organizing transportation. He was,
- 19:59Speaker 3: He was instrument mental to creating this thing that, as
- 20:02Speaker 3: Kira points out, became an underpinning of the understanding of
- 20:07Speaker 3: Donald Trump in a way that wasn't fair of the right,
- 20:10Speaker 3: in a way that was perhaps fabricated in pretty large
- 20:14Speaker 3: ways here, not just misinterpreted.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely. And the USA Today headline on this and
- 20:21Speaker 2: their tweet is the Southern Poverty Law Center was indicted
- 20:24Speaker 2: for paying sources to infiltrate hate groups, the tactic federal
- 20:27Speaker 2: agencies have used for decades.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Are they a federal agency?
- 20:30Speaker 2: Guys? Seriously?
- 20:32Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 20:32Speaker 2: Is everything in op Polymath points out though about that headline.
- 20:37Speaker 2: SPLC was not indicted for paying sources. They were indicted
- 20:40Speaker 2: for wire fraud, which is a little different and making
- 20:44Speaker 2: false statements.
- 20:46Speaker 1: So those things are gonna get you in trouble sometimes.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. If you're funneling money to these groups and
- 20:52Speaker 2: you need to keep it quiet and you need people
- 20:55Speaker 2: not to find out, that's where you're going to get
- 20:57Speaker 2: in trouble and break the law. And that's sound like
- 21:00Speaker 2: what they did here.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Also, all the conspiracy theories continued to be correct, I know.
- 21:06Speaker 2: I know. And for those of us who are anti
- 21:09Speaker 2: conspiracy theories. It's like, uh, it's.
- 21:14Speaker 3: Yeah, it's gonna make discernment a little tougher in the
- 21:16Speaker 3: future because.
- 21:19Speaker 1: I would have said this one was woopy. I don't know.
- 21:24Speaker 2: I don't know. I SBLC to me has always just
- 21:27Speaker 2: seen like the biggest scam organization. They pressure companies like
- 21:30Speaker 2: Facebook and like PayPal to give them money to fight
- 21:34Speaker 2: these this scourge, and we knew that scourge just did
- 21:37Speaker 2: not exist, you know. I doesn't even though Reunite the
- 21:40Speaker 2: Right rally, how many people were there and that was
- 21:42Speaker 2: the biggest rally like ever. You know.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Now, I definitely think that they're hacky scam artists. I
- 21:48Speaker 1: did not. I would not have assumed it went this far.
- 21:52Speaker 3: I probably should have assumed that I would also like
- 21:55Speaker 3: to point out speaking of them being hacky scam artists.
- 21:59Speaker 3: In two twenty twelve, a thing that no one remembers
- 22:01Speaker 3: because it was the wrong ideology. Doing the shooting, Floyd
- 22:06Speaker 3: Lee Corkins traveled from his home in Virginia, Northern Virginia,
- 22:10Speaker 3: into the city with a gun that he had purchased
- 22:12Speaker 3: recently and a sack full of Chick fil A sandwiches.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Because this was Dragonla scanning YEA and a map from
- 22:21Speaker 3: the SPLC noting hate groups. One of the groups on
- 22:26Speaker 3: that map was the Family Research Council, and he went
- 22:30Speaker 3: there and shot a security guard who valiantly saved the
- 22:34Speaker 3: organization from a massacre.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Tackled.
- 22:36Speaker 3: The guy survived, he had an arm wound. Should have
- 22:40Speaker 3: been honored in wonderful ways, but again, an LGBTQ person
- 22:46Speaker 3: of color killing people over his left wing ideology was
- 22:49Speaker 3: not really big in the headlines. He was later convicted,
- 22:52Speaker 3: but I always thought it was interesting how the media
- 22:55Speaker 3: could say that Sarah Palin's map to the killing or
- 23:00Speaker 3: the shooting of Stifford, That the SPLC's map being used
- 23:05Speaker 3: by an actual talking terrorist who was convicted of his terrorism,
- 23:11Speaker 3: that was no big deal, and the SPLC had no
- 23:13Speaker 3: qualms about it and continues to put like the.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Babylon B on their map. Hate blon B. Perhaps you're
- 23:21Speaker 1: making some hate, perhaps you're the hate.
- 23:24Speaker 2: And Gabby Gifford's shooting had nothing to do with Sarah
- 23:27Speaker 2: Palin's map. No matter how many times in New York
- 23:30Speaker 2: Times tried to tried to find a connection, there simply
- 23:32Speaker 2: wasn't any, and the shooter had never seen the map so.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Nor was he ideologically motivated?
- 23:38Speaker 2: Right right? Andy No points out that if the allegations
- 23:42Speaker 2: are true, the SPLC is the largest funder of American
- 23:46Speaker 2: Neo Nazis and KKK members. That's how big these numbers are.
- 23:51Speaker 1: That is a problem.
- 23:52Speaker 2: They made a problem. Yeah, they allegedly made a problem
- 23:56Speaker 2: that they could point to. This is him continuing to
- 23:59Speaker 2: fear mong or and fundraised hundreds of millions of dollars.
- 24:02Speaker 2: More importantly, they could build a moral panic that Democrats
- 24:05Speaker 2: could use his sway elections and defame political targets. This
- 24:08Speaker 2: is more than just alleged mass financial fraud.
- 24:11Speaker 1: It's bad.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Yeah, top funder of neo Nazis and KKK.
- 24:16Speaker 1: I mean, what an honor? What what an honor.
- 24:19Speaker 2: From a group that says they want to fight neo
- 24:22Speaker 2: Nazis and KKK members. But yeah, that line you know
- 24:25Speaker 2: about the supply just not meeting the demand. We should
- 24:30Speaker 2: be grateful for that, We should be happy.
- 24:32Speaker 1: That's well.
- 24:34Speaker 3: My friend Lindsay, who did have a friend who worked
- 24:36Speaker 3: at SPLC, has an anecdote of when she was that
- 24:39Speaker 3: young employee was showing the map that he was working
- 24:43Speaker 3: on and was told by leadership.
- 24:45Speaker 1: It looks too empty. You've got to fill it up.
- 24:48Speaker 2: He's like, but are buying those Nazis?
- 24:51Speaker 1: Are we doing the thing?
- 24:52Speaker 2: Create them?
- 24:53Speaker 1: Let's hate is good? Right?
- 24:55Speaker 2: No?
- 24:55Speaker 1: No, not for donors.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Yeah. I also think that any group that has aligned
- 25:01Speaker 2: with SPLC should be ashamed and embarrassed.
- 25:04Speaker 3: Today.
- 25:04Speaker 2: The ADL, for example, they worked with the SPLC to
- 25:08Speaker 2: target PayPal people who used PayPal, and they said these
- 25:12Speaker 2: were extremists, and of course, you know, they debanked them
- 25:15Speaker 2: from PayPal. I know that that's not quite the term,
- 25:18Speaker 2: because PayPal's not a bank, but they stop them from
- 25:21Speaker 2: using their services because they were extremists. And now it
- 25:23Speaker 2: turns out the SPLC probably paid those extremists.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Yet another institution just happy to earn.
- 25:32Speaker 2: All right, We're going to take a short break and
- 25:34Speaker 2: be right back with one more story on Normally. We
- 25:41Speaker 2: are back on Normally, where Brian Schwartz at the Wall
- 25:44Speaker 2: Street Journal reports this scoop. The Trump administration and Spirit
- 25:49Speaker 2: Airlines are nearing a deal where the US government would
- 25:52Speaker 2: put up to five hundred million into Spirit Airlines stock
- 25:55Speaker 2: warrants to try to save the company, leading to a
- 25:58Speaker 2: potential significant stake the company, to which I say, why, why, how.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Don't we do this.
- 26:08Speaker 2: It makes no sense. You know, our friend, Bethany Mendel,
- 26:13Speaker 2: are good friend, Bethany Mandel, she tweeted, as somebody who
- 26:17Speaker 2: regularly buys eight tickets at a time. I'm grateful to
- 26:21Speaker 2: see this. We can't afford to be snobs about airlines.
- 26:24Speaker 2: The Jet Blue merger was stopped by the Biden administration.
- 26:26Speaker 2: The war has doubled the price of jet fuel. I'm
- 26:29Speaker 2: not a fan of most bailouts. This makes sense to me.
- 26:32Speaker 2: What I would say is, I have nothing against Spirit.
- 26:35Speaker 2: I fly Spirit when they are the ones who can
- 26:39Speaker 2: get me from point A to point B the fastest,
- 26:41Speaker 2: and sometimes they are. They fly certain routes that other
- 26:44Speaker 2: people just don't fly, So this is not snobbery. I
- 26:48Speaker 2: have been on Spirit many times, and in fact I
- 26:51Speaker 2: think that they're frequently a great deal. And their big
- 26:54Speaker 2: front seat, which is like you know, their first class
- 26:57Speaker 2: costs the same as coach on other airlines. It's great.
- 26:59Speaker 2: I'm super pro it. I'm anti becoming an owner of
- 27:04Speaker 2: the company.
- 27:06Speaker 3: I don't want. I don't want the government to own
- 27:09Speaker 3: part of Spirit Airlines. This is like two government mess
- 27:13Speaker 3: ups and two separate administrations of different kinds the first
- 27:18Speaker 3: and the Biden administration that, hey, you could have just
- 27:20Speaker 3: let them of their own free will and volition merged
- 27:24Speaker 3: with Jet Blue, who was trying to acquire them, and
- 27:27Speaker 3: that would have been two discount airlines rolled into one,
- 27:29Speaker 3: and all those assets would have come together and they
- 27:31Speaker 3: could have had more ability to put a profitable business forward,
- 27:38Speaker 3: and that would have been great, and that's what should
- 27:39Speaker 3: have happened.
- 27:40Speaker 1: But the Biden administration did say no to that. That
- 27:42Speaker 1: was bad.
- 27:43Speaker 3: But it is not my responsibility to rescue Spirit when
- 27:47Speaker 3: the Biden.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Administration screwed them over.
- 27:48Speaker 3: I wish things had gone differently, but I don't want
- 27:52Speaker 3: to own this airline.
- 27:53Speaker 2: And the thing is, like, I get her point about
- 27:56Speaker 2: oil prices, but Spirit, this is not a new bankruptcy.
- 28:00Speaker 2: They entered bankruptcy a while ago, and oil was, you know,
- 28:04Speaker 2: in the seventies at that point a barrel. So this
- 28:08Speaker 2: is not about the price of jet fuel. If you
- 28:10Speaker 2: can't sustain yourself when oil prices are lower, you probably
- 28:14Speaker 2: can't sustain yourself at all. And I don't see why
- 28:19Speaker 2: they can't look around for a buyer. That isn't again
- 28:22Speaker 2: me and you.
- 28:23Speaker 3: Well, and also you know what the Trump administration could
- 28:27Speaker 3: do return the termination fee for the old merger to
- 28:31Speaker 3: Jet Blue and say, please use this as a down
- 28:33Speaker 3: payment to do the thing you should have done that.
- 28:36Speaker 3: I'm sorry the stupid government wouldn't let you do. But
- 28:38Speaker 3: now you're good. Just sale go for it.
- 28:40Speaker 4: Yeah, that's that would be okay, no sense, right, because
- 28:43Speaker 4: like Jet Blue paid like seventy million dollars or something
- 28:46Speaker 4: to get out of that deal once they determined that
- 28:50Speaker 4: they couldn't do it.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I don't know.
- 28:54Speaker 1: I mean.
- 28:54Speaker 2: And also for buying airlines, I have some other ones
- 28:57Speaker 2: I'd like to buy first. I just actually jet Blue.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Jet Blue is teetering.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Jet Blue is a far.
- 29:03Speaker 2: More competent airline. And yes, if we're going to own
- 29:06Speaker 2: one again, this is why we shouldn't buy airlines. No,
- 29:11Speaker 2: this is why, because it makes sense.
- 29:14Speaker 3: And I'm with you. I'm not consulted, I'm with you.
- 29:17Speaker 3: I'm not a discount airline hater. I'm not an airline hater.
- 29:20Speaker 3: I'm actually quite sympathetic to the fact it's very hard
- 29:23Speaker 3: to operate in the environment that they're in doing what
- 29:25Speaker 3: they're doing, particularly post twenty twenty and all the business
- 29:28Speaker 3: that they lost combining airlines is a really good way
- 29:32Speaker 3: to solve that problem and to make sure that they
- 29:34Speaker 3: can survive, and the government wouldn't let them do that.
- 29:37Speaker 3: I'm also just anti the government, saying when people can
- 29:40Speaker 3: merge of their own free will in a free country anyway. Yeah,
- 29:43Speaker 3: that's probably one of my more radical views. I don't
- 29:46Speaker 3: even think they should have a say.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't understand the argument against them merging. It's
- 29:51Speaker 2: just yeah, it's.
- 29:52Speaker 3: Just lefties being lefties, just put their fingers in everything
- 29:56Speaker 3: and be like, no, that's too big.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Oh, it's too big to have too small airline? Get
- 30:00Speaker 1: une together.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Yeah, And they're the ones who really make it harder
- 30:04Speaker 2: for big families to travel. It isn't up to us
- 30:08Speaker 2: to save these companies that cater to bigger families. It
- 30:12Speaker 2: has to be a free market solution. I think the
- 30:15Speaker 2: more we move away from that, the worst it'll be
- 30:17Speaker 2: for us all, because this isn't the last time we're
- 30:19Speaker 2: gonna be bailing out, you know, some airline or some company,
- 30:23Speaker 2: and just such a tough and bad path to be on.
- 30:27Speaker 3: And Trump unfortunately has a pension for acquiring stakes in
- 30:32Speaker 3: these companies, and I say no to all of them. No,
- 30:34Speaker 3: thank you, Yeah, they don't want them.
- 30:36Speaker 2: Not a fan, not a fan of that at all. Well,
