- 0:01Good morning and a warm welcome to your show,
- 0:05Sunny Mornings in Boston. I'm your host, Melissa,
- 0:09and it's Tuesday, August 4th. You'll be interested
- 0:13to know. 82 years ago, today, in 1944, a young
- 0:19diarist, Anne Frank, began sharing her personal
- 0:22reflections while hidden, producing a vivid account
- 0:25of hope and resilience. That diary later became
- 0:29an international symbol of human dignity and
- 0:32education about intolerance, inspiring readers,
- 0:36and shaping how future generations remember those
- 0:39lost. So now you know. And now, it's time for
- 0:46the weather report. This morning, it's partly
- 0:51sunny and it feels like 69 degrees, with 2 mile
- 0:55per hour wind. The sunset will take place at
- 0:597 .56, and it will rise again tomorrow at 5 .42.
- 1:04It looks like we're in for some partly sunny
- 1:06skies today, with a high near 86 and a calm southwest
- 1:10breeze around 6 miles per hour. If you're inland,
- 1:15it will hit a high of 87. Tonight, expect partly
- 1:19cloudy skies with a low around 70 and light winds
- 1:23around 6 miles per hour. The nearshore buoy at
- 1:28Cape Cod Bay reads 68 degrees for the water temperature.
- 1:34Looking ahead in the weather. Thursday will be
- 1:37mostly sunny with a high near 90 and a slight
- 1:40chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms
- 1:43with a heat index up to 95 and a southwest wind
- 1:47of 3 to 7 miles per hour. Thursday night brings
- 1:51a chance of evening storms with lows around 73.
- 1:54and a southwest wind near 7 miles per hour. Friday
- 1:59stays mostly sunny and hotter with highs near
- 2:0191 and a chance of afternoon and evening storms.
- 2:05Then Saturday and Sunday trend a bit cooler into
- 2:08the upper 80s with mainly sunny skies and west
- 2:11winds. Bonjour, food enthusiasts! This podcast
- 2:15is brought to you by Versailles Café and Pastries
- 2:19in Encinitas, nestled on El Camino Real South.
- 2:23Just north of Encinitas Boulevard, this cafe
- 2:26is a haven for culinary delights. Indulge in
- 2:30their amazing Eggs Benedict or their gluten -free
- 2:34crepes. You can grab a panini for lunch or just
- 2:38breeze on through to get your morning coffee.
- 2:40They are open every day from 8 to 5. So stop
- 2:44on by and don't forget to tell them. Sunny mornings
- 2:48send you. In local news, Massachusetts General
- 2:54Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital are
- 2:56again ranked the best hospitals in Massachusetts
- 2:59by U .S. News & World Report, following a years
- 3:02-long streak tied for the top spot. Brigham and
- 3:06Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital,
- 3:09which are the two founding numbers of Mass General
- 3:12Brigham and are increasingly integrating with
- 3:14one another, are both ranked best in the state
- 3:17by the report. They are also the only two hospitals
- 3:21in Massachusetts to make the U .S. News' honor
- 3:24roll list, described as the best 20 hospitals
- 3:27in the country. Now onto sports. A vindicated
- 3:36Aaron Rodgers is primed for one last run at that
- 3:39elusive second Super Bowl ring in his walk -off
- 3:42season with the Steelers. Steelers defensive
- 3:46back Brandon Eccles finds the question of Rodgers'
- 3:50capabilities downright laughable. That's the
- 3:53best quarterback I've stepped on a field with,
- 3:55said new running back Rico Dowdle. Rodgers has
- 3:59already announced that this upcoming season will
- 4:01be his last, stating, this is 100 % the end.
- 4:06With a supportive cast, including a talented
- 4:08offensive line and promising skill players, the
- 4:12Steelers are hopeful for a special season. Rogers
- 4:15possesses both the physical and mental tools
- 4:18needed to join the ranks of great quarterbacks
- 4:20who have won after 38. In local sports, the Red
- 4:25Sox stay hot tonight against Chicago at Fenway,
- 4:29looking to go up 2 -0 in this series. Game two
- 4:33starts at 7 -10, with Boston riding a six -game
- 4:37winning streak after yesterday's 14 -2 demolition.
- 4:42Sonny Gray takes the mound against the White
- 4:44Sox's Sean Burke. The Sox have won 8 of their
- 4:48last 10 and sit at 61 -51, playing the kind of
- 4:53face ball that matters in the stretch run. After
- 4:56sweeping the Dodgers last weekend and then throttling
- 4:59Chicago yesterday, this team's got momentum heading
- 5:03into August. Gray's been a workhorse, and Boston's
- 5:07offense keeps clicking. Caleb Durbin led the
- 5:11charge yesterday with four RBS and a homer. Wilier
- 5:15Abreu added two homers and two RBS. Yoshida,
- 5:21Contreras, Raffaella, and Monasterio all contributed
- 5:25as the Sox poured it on early. Off the field,
- 5:30Boston made a splash at the deadline acquiring
- 5:32catcher Adley Rutchman from Baltimore. The former
- 5:36top overall pick is already at Fenway soaking
- 5:39it in, thrilled to join a playoff contender.
- 5:43He told reporters the city loves baseball and
- 5:46the Red Sox are doing things right. That's a
- 5:49significant boost behind the plate as the push
- 5:52continues. First pitch tonight at 7 -10. In top
- 5:58news, McDonald's is having trouble attracting
- 6:01bargain -hungry customers amid the current economy.
- 6:05The fast food giant reported its slowest United
- 6:08States sales growth in over a year as value offers
- 6:11failed to resonate with customers facing higher
- 6:14prices. Overall customer count in the United
- 6:18States declined. CEO Chris Kamchinsky stated,
- 6:22we simply didn't execute at the level we needed
- 6:25to in the second quarter. Despite reports of
- 6:28resilient consumer spending, low income households
- 6:31are still struggling with affordability. Analysts
- 6:35criticize McDonald's for a very jumbled strategy
- 6:38that has angered customers and led to declining
- 6:41traffic. Value is now paramount, with sit -down
- 6:45chains outperforming traditional fast food. In
- 6:49business news, Michael Burry of the Big Short
- 6:53fame is sticking with his bearish wagers, even
- 6:56as the Standard & Poor's 500 surges to a record
- 6:59high. warning that the rally could still end
- 7:02in a sharp sell -off reminiscent of the 1987
- 7:06stock market crash. Burry stated, I continue
- 7:10to believe it is possible we are near a major
- 7:12top and possible a 1987 -type fall, but the Standard
- 7:17& Poor's 500 making new highs likely will bring
- 7:21new money into the market. On Tuesday, the Standard
- 7:24& Poor's 500 jumped 1 .9 % to its first record
- 7:29close since June. Burry continues to hold short
- 7:32positions in several companies, including Micron,
- 7:36NVIDIA, and Tesla. He remains confident in his
- 7:40long -term outlook, but will cut losses if trades
- 7:42move decisively against him. In crypto movement,
- 7:48Bitcoin is unchanged at just over $64 ,000. Ethereum
- 7:53is unchanged at just under $1 ,900. And XRP is
- 7:59down 1%. to $1 .07. Moving on to a more local

- 8:45Morning sent you by. And now back to the show.
- 8:51Let's talk tech. Pavel Durov, the CEO of Telegram,
- 8:56claims a taped -down extortionist was responsible
- 9:00for the app's brief removal from the App Store.
- 9:03He stated that a malicious actor edited an old
- 9:06message in an active group chat to display AI
- 9:09-modified illegal content that would not be reported
- 9:12by group members. Durav alleged this created
- 9:16an opportunity for extortion, as the actor would
- 9:19use automated accounts to report their own post
- 9:22to Apple unless paid. He warned that extortionists
- 9:26have found a way to manipulate Apple into overreacting,
- 9:30posing a systemic risk for platforms with user
- 9:33-generated content. And in entertainment news,
- 9:40ESPN has lined up its fourth annual creator network
- 9:43of digital stars who will fan out across the
- 9:46country to promote the 2026 National Football
- 9:50League season. culminating with the Super Bowl
- 9:53airing on ESPN for the first time. The five members
- 9:57of this year's cohort include Chase Merman, Isaac
- 10:00Rauchel, Simone Scott, Diana Flores, and Lee
- 10:04Camerano. Katie Daly, ESPN's senior vice president
- 10:09of digital, social, and streaming content, stated,
- 10:13This is a major moment in ESPN's history. and
- 10:17we have an incredible opportunity to tell that
- 10:20story in new and authentic ways. The 2026 group
- 10:24will have broad access to attend college football
- 10:27games and national football league events, including
- 10:30the upcoming Super Bowl on February 14th at Los
- 10:34Angeles' California SoFi Stadium. Well, all righty,
- 10:39folks, it's time for the quote of the day. And
- 10:43today, Our quote comes from the American author
- 10:46and motivational speaker, Dale Carnegie. And
- 10:50he said, And that's a wrap for this morning.
