- Jacob Bunce: You're good. Grant Nonemacher: Okay, we're good. Well I I'll edit it back to go to Yeah, exactly. Yeah, sorry about that. ⁓ so the ⁓ yeah, so I think like how Jacob Bunce: Well all right, welcome back to Fader Follow. ⁓ we got a good ass episode ⁓ reacting to the top twenty-five. Lot of good names, lot of bad names, lot of names you probably thought they were gonna be here, a lot of teams, lot of coaches that, you know, probably earned a earned a top twenty-five just because of who they are. ⁓ a lot of interesting ones too, when you get towards the bottom. I think some some decent names I got left off the list, but Tornado ran through Chicago, sorry. Grant Nonemacher: Okay. Okay. So yeah. No, it's so hot. Yeah. No, I still think the like it's like you said, I think three. I do think there's like a bit of there's a room to regress for these guys. I just have a hard time like signet is prasignet. Yeah, no, I don't think no. No. Ohio. Ohio State's gonna blow the brakes off Indiana because Ohio State Jacob Bunce: I've but yeah, I've said everything. I yeah, you go ahead. Look, I'll I'll I'm gonna raise my hand and say I was wrong about Indiana last year. Like I think the majority of the country was wrong about Indiana last year. That's fine. I've openly said and admitted that I like Kurt Signetti. I think it was a Cinderella story. I think this is the exact script, but better with the Michigan team a couple of years prior. They don't have a lot of people returning. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah. Yes. Yeah. Yep. Jacob Bunce: If Ohio State loses Indiana, I'm gonna blow my brains out. Like I'm gonna just say that right now. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah. Jacob Bunce: The reason that they were Mr. Cinderella story was because of that fucking game and fielding and just it was just a ho a bad coach game. As you know, and again I'm not gonna sit here and say they deserved a win, 'cause they played like shit. Both teams played like shit. However, when you're in the red zone three fucking times and you can't figure out a way to score in your play calling is what you did, I mean it was s it but it wasn't just that, it was like Yeah, Grant, what's your kind of initial take on everything? I think we stay away from the top five as a start and maybe start with Indiana and kind of work our way down. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah. Yeah, big 10. Yeah. Yeah. Let's absolutely yeah. What's good everyone? It's great to be here. I'm just ready for the we're almost we're so close. I can taste it. The coaches poll starting out. It is ⁓ last year we had Indiana come in at nineteen and they proceeded to go sixteen to no and win the natty. So this coach's poll is not always the most reliable thing, but it sure is fun to look at. So let's go ahead and get after it. ⁓ my initial thought is Jacob Bunce: You have a good coach. Grant Nonemacher: Yes. Yeah. Yep. Jacob Bunce: What else do you got? I I'm I'm confused because I'll tell you what, a coach and fucking slap my my hand here doesn't win a national championship alone. I don't care who you are, you need talent. And everyone now is on the other side of the seesaw. They're saying, I was wrong, so I'm going to really, really ride high on Indiana. And it's like, and now they're leaning in, and it's like, great, you lean in. I'm still gonna be in this middle ground. I think. Grant Nonemacher: You couldn't get a yard. You couldn't get a yard. couldn't. ⁓ Right, no for sure. Right, for sure. Yes. But Jacob Bunce: you're running on third and fourth down and then you're not running on third and fourth down and then you try to sneak and then you try to pass on fourth down and you go you what they threw to their third string tight end and it's like what what are we fucking doing guys? Like stick to the script and then make your field goal, right? It's like so I don't know, but what what do you think? I mean, do you think ⁓ it's far fetched? Grant Nonemacher: Yeah. why is Clemson a top twenty five team? Like they don't like I they were Dabo Sweeney must have the coach like he must have the coaches like in his pocket. I don't understand like they don't recruit the way everyone else is recruiting. They have not embraced NIL the way some of the other top teams have. So I have never seen a school or a team ride off more reputational Yeah, you're gonna lean into Indiana. Yeah. Right. Yes. Yeah. Jacob Bunce: When they start the season, and let's be honest, they have a pretty easy start with North Texas, Howard, Western Kentucky. Then they go to Northwestern, Rutgers, Nebraska. Their first real, real matchup is Ohio State. And then after Ohio State, they play Michigan. And then Minnesota, USC, Washington. They don't have that hard of a schedule. Washington is sneaky good. I'm not gonna sit here and say they're not a good team. I mean, they got a great coach, great program. I I agree. I just like Grant Nonemacher: I just I think Ohio State blows their doors. think Ohio State absolutely skullfucks Indiana this year. I do think that's facts. I just am of them. I am a I have I didn't really I didn't really doubt signet like you did as much. But I because I I believe you didn't. Yeah, it's fair. OK. Yeah, you did. Yeah, I think the team I am skeptical I think is where I'm at. But I do think if Washington? No. Yeah, they they they brought they brought yeah. They're gonna have to outscore him. power than Clemson has. ⁓ so I yeah, exact yeah, for sure. Jacob Bunce: I didn't doubt Signetti, I doubted the team. It's just the name, dude. I mean, like what else do you expect? It's it's Dabo and he he's kinda coming around with the recruiting anyway. ⁓ Grant Nonemacher: Yeah, hope yeah. Yeah, hopefully he can prove me wrong, but I I d he has he's gonna have to show me. Jacob Bunce: You're not gonna convince me. Like the only way they're gonna convince me that they're a decent team before they play Ohio State is if they are fucking blowing out the opponent. If they are close games, if they are sloppy in any way, again, my my opinion on them is I think they'll probably have three losses. They lose to Ohio State, they lose to USC, and Michigan and Washington are both coin flips. Grant Nonemacher: Signetti is as good of a coach as I think he is. think he'll have them rolling within the first few weeks and he'll have them figure it out because he's like he's just such a he's a main he's like a football psycho and I kind of love football psychos. So that's kind of where I'm at with him. I but I the only thing I know about this team is they're going to be good enough. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Jacob Bunce: I don't know. I mean, I'm with you. I mean, it's it's it's kinda like like Missouri being up there too. I mean, no hate on Missouri, but it's not like they have a lot going for ⁓ Chip Lindsay is their new offensive coordinator who I think is replacing Kirby Moore, was it? ⁓ their other QB transferred to Virginia. ⁓ their roster took a huge hit too. What, I think six players were drafted last year. I mean, it's not like they have a lot of great t ⁓ talent coming back and their schedule's kind of tough. I mean Grant Nonemacher: Yeah. Yeah, I think yeah. Sounds about right. Jacob Bunce: They make the playoffs, I will never talk down on Indiana or Kurt Signetti for as long as I live. I'll get his fucking name tattooed on my back. Like I Grant Nonemacher: Mm-hmm. interesting. Yeah, the y and they also try the transfer some of them transferred Yeah. They if they go back to back you get it you get signetti tattooed on your. Jacob Bunce: I think they do lose to Michigan. I I don't know why. I just I think they do. It's at Michigan, late October, like I don't know. I I I fucking hate Michigan. I don't like Mi Well they're not gonna go. If if they if they go back to back, I'll get Signetti tattooed on my ass. Ole Miss, Texas, Georgia, Oklahoma, Kansas, like that's three, four losses right there. ⁓ this is a top twenty five team that won't be top twenty five after week I don't know, four or five, you know what I mean? Grant Nonemacher: Yeah. That's a ha that's a that's a spicy take. That's a spicy take. I'm gonna clip I'm gonna clip this. That's a spicy take, sir. No, no, I no hang no, stand on business. Stand on business, dude. Like I I think it stand on business. I Yeah. tattooed on your butt. Yeah, perfect. All right, Okay, I like it. Perfect. Okay. I think that's a great way. I think that's a good way to finish that segment. Let's ⁓ let's move into let's ⁓ let's move into our blue chips. Let's move into our top five. Like these are the sure bets. These are the shirt playoff teams as sure as you can be anyway in this hole in this whole game of football that we love and Right. Yeah. Jacob Bunce: Clip it. I don't g I I don't care. I just like I but I again it's ⁓ Ohio State and USC are like losses. Michigan and in in and Washington are coin flips. But if I like looking at the schedule right now. Grant Nonemacher: No, I agree. I think yeah, they as soon as they start playing their conference schedule, they're gonna take a few L's and they're just gonna fall off. ⁓ Jacob Bunce: Yeah, like and and I feel like Louisville or or Florida or I mean, I don't wanna say T C U, but I think either one of those teams would have been a lot better of a Grant Nonemacher: Right, I got you. Yeah. Jacob Bunce: Notre Dame, I just they give they ha I have such a sour taste in my mouth in Notre Dame. I end I get last year in their frustration, I'm not gonna sit here and and say, you know, that they deserved what happened to them, but to not to play in the bowl game too because you're a fucking whiner. It's like just nut up, dude. I and and then and then you look at their schedule this year too, it's like I don't know. I just I think they I think they lose to Michigan. Yeah, I do. Grant Nonemacher: T T C U's gonna T C U's gonna in a tough spot because Josh Hoover transferred to Indiana and he was the only reason they were in any of those games. Like any like T Yeah. All right. Give me one second, man. I gotta take care ⁓ one second. One second. Yeah, they Jacob Bunce: Yeah, but he was w what what, he had twenty nine touchdowns and thirteen interceptions? I mean, they had some pretty shitty losses too against teams that aren't that great now. Granted, it's not like he had the best O line, the best defense, the best weapons, but Yeah. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah. Yeah, there's money. Yeah, there. Yeah, there's there. There's so there's They're sore losers. And then they did this. Yeah, exactly. the the defense is horrible. But he but he but he could if you saw like he's one of those guys like he's been in college football for a little while now and yeah so he's been around and he's still here but it like if you look like at at his peak, like he's he can play. Like I'm not gonna sit here and poo poo Josh Hoover too much, but no. Yeah. But I I think all I'm saying is the fact that T C the I T C U is one of those Jacob Bunce: You're a sore loser walking into a cakewalk. It's like f congratulations, guys. Who who are your biggest people this year? BYU, Miami, and SMU? It's like Wow, that's a real tough schedule. And you lost to Miami and A and ⁓ last year. So I you better go fucking twelve and ⁓ before you walk into like it Grant Nonemacher: Miami. Yeah. That's yeah. Yeah. Now there. Jacob Bunce: Yeah, it's twenty three. Grant Nonemacher: No they quite literally skit. Yep they quite literally they quite literally scheduled themselves a playoff ticket because of what like I don't know how much I know these games are scheduled a couple years out but they literally scheduled them a cake themselves a cakewalk just to make sure they don't miss the playoff again. Jacob Bunce: I don't think he I don't think he's a bad quarterback either. I I'm I'm with you. I mean Grant Nonemacher: teams that was like ⁓ TCU's just one of those teams that was only p in these games 'cause they were hanging forty points and hanging around and hanging around. But like I don't think without that offense I don't and they also lost Jacob Bunce: If you were to come to North Carolina, guess who plays that week? Grant Nonemacher: North Carolina, Notre Dame. ⁓ Jacob Bunce: Miami and Notre Dame. That's November seventh, too. Factor fiction though, factor fiction, what made er Mendoza being able to scramble was over fifty percent why Indiana was as good as they were. Grant Nonemacher: But there's so many other good games on. That's the only problem with that. Yeah, for sure. No, but I'm but I'm saying is like, that's my only problem with going to some of these games is like you miss every other game. Like there was like, just watch. Just watch it. Yeah. Yeah. ⁓ got it. ⁓ Miami, North Carolina. ⁓ sorry. But OK. Yeah, no, that'd be that'd a sick. That'd be sick. Jacob Bunce: No, I know. I'm just saying, like that's another great game. Like that'll be a good game. Grant Nonemacher: ⁓ for sure. Yeah. Mend I don't yeah, and also just their they Mendo the that no, but I but he but he's but he c but I it's it's a it's a matter of you yeah, you're right, because that entire Indiana team was just all discipline and precision and that is what Mendoza is amazing at, right? He's very Brady esque that way. He wasn't the most flashy guy, he wasn't the didn't have the rocket arm, but he was accurate as fuck. And Jacob Bunce: ⁓ no, I'm not saying go to the game. I said if you came to North Carolina. Neither team is a North Carolina. Hoover's not really a runner. Like, I think his longest run last year was thirteen yards. Yeah. ⁓ for the people that don't know, I live in ⁓ North Charlotte, Granson, Chicago. I'm from Chicago. And ⁓ we'll meet up and watch a lot of football together. So this was the weekend that we were talking about because it's Oregon, Ohio State, Miami, Notre Dame, Bama, LSU, Georgia, Olmus, and Utah BYU. I mean, that is unfucking believable. I I looked at the NFL slate, it's actually not that great. And honestly, kind of makes it a nice like Grant Nonemacher: Yeah, great. Great. Jacob Bunce: Yeah. Grant Nonemacher: Utah BYU. BYU. Great game. November 7th. Great game. Great. You're right. And I don't think I don't think Hoover's that accurate either. And so yeah, I don't know what Indiana's gonna look like, but all I know is that TCU's gonna be way worse because they don't have him anymore. That's all I'm trying to say here. Jacob Bunce: Yeah. Yeah, no, I agree with you. I I and that's why I s I didn't even really want to mention them. I mean, I thought I thought like they're they didn't deserve to be on the top twenty five. And it's like it's who whoever's a twenty fifteen. It's like no again, no disrespect, but it's not like we're really talking about a playoff contender at the end of the day. center around college, obviously different days of the weekend, but ⁓ Grant Nonemacher: Yeah. The the other You know what just realized? That's really gonna fuck that up that I just put together. That's my wedding anniversary. Jacob Bunce: ⁓ the the the seventh? That was when you guys got married? Grant Nonemacher: Yeah, for sure. Yeah. No, Mizoo's Mizzou is a natty contender anyway. Yeah, we're s moving the the other Yeah. Jacob Bunce: Mm. Grant Nonemacher: So I might be cooked. So we might need to play it at different weekends. That so we'll figure it out. But that is a that does make things hard. It's my first one. It's my first. It's my first one is. Yeah. All right. Yeah. So Notre Dame is a cake walk. They're really they're gonna be really good though. I will say they're gonna be good because they want to have a really good roster and they have a cake schedule. So. Jacob Bunce: Yeah, and I guess talking about do we wanna just stick to Indiana or what were you gonna say? Grant Nonemacher: No, I was gonna ⁓ I was I I I have some thoughts between on ten to fifteen. I th I've got some I w I wanna talk about those. ⁓ the other team I was gonna bring up in the top in the twenty to twenty-five range is Iowa, is they lost their quarterback again, but it's crazy that they are the when in it's in a game where ev literally every other team is completely reliant on a quarterback. Jacob Bunce: You have your whole life to celebrate anniversaries. You'll be all right. Second one's better. But I alright, I think I think no let's move on. Texas is a is one that I'm looking forward to. Okay. Grant Nonemacher: Like you said, it's gonna they're gonna be good taxes. they just find a way to be relevant without having any sort of s any semblance of competent quarterback play. All they do is play great special teams and good defense and they just find ways to steal games and certain Jacob Bunce: In my opinion, I think Texas's entire year relies on them beating Ohio State. Grant Nonemacher: Mm-hmm. ⁓ in week two? Yeah, interesting. Jacob Bunce: If they lose that game, they're cooked. Cause they play Tennessee, they play Oklahoma, they play Old Miss, they play Mizzou, they play A and ⁓ It's like if you if they truly wanna be yeah, if they truly wanna be the team that everyone wants them to be and everyone's dick riding Arch Banning, and I Arch Banning, I love the Bannings, I think it they're an amazing family. ⁓ They're like they're like the big brother of Northwestern. Like Northwestern never has a quarterback. They have a decent everything else you just described, but they just never can find a way to be a contender. Iowa always finds a way to be a contender with, like you said, a mediocre QB, an amazing defense, run game heavy. Yeah, an amazing special teams. ⁓ it is funny. They're always right there, dude. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah. For yeah. They have a brutal schedule. Right. Yeah. Right. An awesome special teams. Right. Jacob Bunce: Just like last year, everyone is riding his dick again. I think he made huge improvements and steps and strides in the right direction last year. I think he looked great against Michigan. But again, it's Michigan, they didn't play that great last year. We're not talking about a blue chip team at the end of the day, but he looked great. So I you know what? Like I think last year we had two red shirt freshmen starting a game. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah. The the Kurt Ferrins, like their coat. Yeah, exactly. And they're always giving people problems. Every Saturday you just turn the TV on and Iowa's hanging with someone that they shouldn't be. You're just like, all right, Iowa just go off, I guess. But yeah, so I I I just I just r I just want to give Iowa their credit 'cause like I don't like watching them play at all. They're the they're the least visually appealing team I've ever seen, but at a certain level you kinda just gotta respect ⁓ for s staying this relevant for as long as they have. Right. Huge strides. Yes. Mm hmm. Yep. Michigan. Yep. You look awesome. Jacob Bunce: And in Iowa doesn't have like a ⁓ Grant Nonemacher: Now, but... Yeah. Jacob Bunce: Yeah, and their their schedule really isn't horrible this year either. I mean, as aside from Michigan, Ohio State, and Washington. ⁓ it's like Northern Illinois, Iowa State, Minnesota, Wisconsin with Western Purdue, Illinois. Like, I don't think they beat Illinois both times. I could see ⁓ squeezing out one of those, but who knows, man. I mean, they kept it interesting last year. They may be able to keep it interesting this year. ⁓ I g you know, not a not a playoff contender, but a fun team. Lot of nerves, huge, huge game early in the day. And of course, and two defenses. But but tell me if I'm wrong. They didn't let Julian Saiyan do his thing. They kind of had it reserved, which is fine. They want to just ease into it. This is going to be a completely different fucking game. I think it's going to be a lot of points. Again, you have to measure in the good defenses again, but I could see three. Grant Nonemacher: Little great, great. And two, two great. And Ohio state's defense was nasty. Mm-hmm. Nope. Yep. Yes. B points. Jacob Bunce: Well, I guess whatever your definition of fun is, fun team to watch in a Grant Nonemacher: Yeah. Yeah, right. If you're f yeah, if you're if you like root canals then you like watching Iowa football, I think that's the way to put it. The ⁓ yeah moving up a moving up the list just a little bit, yeah, we've got beat we got the Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee, Washington tier of this whole thing. Jacob Bunce: at least three touchdowns each team. Yeah. And then some field goals. But we're talking forty, fifty point totals. That'll be an interesting over under and kind of what they set the line at. Grant Nonemacher: each. Yeah. Jacob Bunce: No, that's so true. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah, for sure. That's gonna be, yeah, I think. Right. And I think like you mentioned, you kind of alluded to it like Arch going into last season had the most pressure I have ever seen a college player be under ever. Like. Jacob Bunce: Well, I get I g kinda kind of on the same train as Michigan. Like what do you what do you think Utah's gonna do this year? Yes, for I think in the game against Ohio State, I swear to God, I'll have to go back and check the tape. But they said potential future Heisman winner, Arch Manning. I said, did I just hear that right? Potential future Heisman winner. I guess you could say that about anybody stepping onto the football field. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah, i it's i it is interest like they like they lost their coach for like what they caused can what they lost their coach for a long time, but they still have their they have a really good they still have their quarterback. They got really like their defense they're still gonna play good defense, their defensive coordinator, I think st I Yeah, he's been there for yeah, he's been there for he's been a f it's been a few years. They they all they had the guy before him as well, the ⁓ Cam rising, he was there forever. Yeah, every. Yeah, you hadn't done anything. Yeah, like they're they're calling them a high. They're calling them. They're calling them a Hall of Famer like before the season. So yeah, and. Yeah, but it's like it's a that's I'm saying it's like that's what I'm saying. I'm saying was to is like. Jacob Bunce: How long has Morgan Scaley been at Utah? It's been a while, right? Dude. It's ridiculous. Like I would I I I get the annoyance behind that too. It's like, come on guys, like holy shit. Grant Nonemacher: give the kid a chance to breathe like he literally had the weight of his the world on his shoulders and then another world on top of that just because of how much pressure the media was he was under so I'm not blame I don't think it took anything away from the Ohio State win in that or yeah the Ohio State win in that game but it's like it all I'm saying is I think Arch can is now that the kind of the media has kind of like let off the gas a little bit like I think he can kind of grow into it but I do agree So yeah, I think these b they both have kind of been hanging around. Jacob Bunce: Dude, they have a they have such a fucking cakewalk schedule too. Grant Nonemacher: I know. Yeah, so that I think that's part of the reason that they're in this top twenty five is that their their schedule is it's a wide open con outside of Texas Tech, the big twelve is such a joke. So it like and like but I do think ⁓ so I think that's kind of why it is the way it is, just that's such a top heavy conference. But I outside of BYU, Utah and Texas Tech, that conference is easy, easy money. ⁓ so I think that's ⁓ I and I think Michigan Jacob Bunce: Yeah. Grant Nonemacher: that their schedule is absolutely brutal and if they lose three games or three or four games and miss the playoff there like Steve's are key should make it might get fired but they need to. Jacob Bunce: Mm. Grant Nonemacher: Getting Whittingham is a was a crazy turn of events for them. Like that is just the most they fell ass backwards into that. Like they go through this crazy coaching scandal and then they just end up picking up one of the best coaches in the country just because they're Michigan. And it like I it so I I risk I like him a lot. I obviously we've had we've had conversations about like Jacob Bunce: It's it's gonna be a really, really interesting team. I ⁓ I I honestly this is a year that I think a team with two losses wins the championship. Unless you're Notre Dame and get extremely lucky and, you know, go undefeated all the way through, but I don't see that happening. I mean, Georgia has another, you know, kind of moving on from Texas. Like Georgia has another tough schedule. You know, Oklahoma, Bama, will miss. ⁓ I guess not as bad. I mean, those three teams are hard, but Grant Nonemacher: Yeah, that's a... Yeah, I think it's... Yeah, my... Yeah. That's it. Yeah, for sure. his comments about the Ohio State thing and like the rivalry and kind of being soft on that. But he's been in big he's coached in games where the teams hate each other. Like he him not him saying one thing to us and then doing another in the locker room is probably where he's gonna be at. So I think Michigan's gonna be just fine. I don't want them to be just fine what they probably will be. ⁓ it'll be I think They sold and they got Gunner stock. They saw Gunner stocked and they saw that they saw Kirby smart. But yes. Yeah. Yeah. So. Jacob Bunce: Gunnar Stock, yep, Stockton's back. Yep. Kirby Smart, one of the best coaches in in all of college football. Last year, like their losses weren't bad losses. You know, they barely lost against Bama. They barely lost against Ole Miss. ⁓ just another great team, you know. I mean, this is ⁓ this is a year where I think yeah, this is a year where I think Georgia is gonna be another real threat. And I I I find it hard to believe that they're gonna have kind of these brutal losses back to back years. I disagree. I think they're gonna have at least three losses this year. I don't think they make the playoffs. I think they're people are riding pretty high. I mean, if you have Bryce Underwood under under Snap, like I great. Love that. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah, exactly. And does the matter of can they live up to their No, yeah, for sure, but no. No, you don't tr I don't trust him as far I don't trust him to do I don't trust him to do anything, but I think in the f in this new like this is like their first new ⁓ regime that's not directly tied back to Jim Harbaugh for a since a long time, right? Like basically more Sharon Moore was pretty much just trying to keep alive what they were doing under Harbaugh, and that obviously didn't work. But I think this is the first time that they're gonna kind of try to move the Yeah, that lost lost. They lost that they lost that Ole Miss. No, they brought that one out. But yeah, like, yeah, they lost that Ole Miss. Yeah, yeah, they lost Ole Miss. Yeah. So it's like, yeah. So it's like the mat like they have these expectations like in Bama. So it's like, yeah, like they have to figure like they have to get back to be in the Georgia team that went back to back a few years like they I don't know what that they had so much talent. And I think the thing is like they had all that it was them in Alabama just as talent. Jacob Bunce: No, they lost all miss. Yeah. Yep. And Bama. Grant Nonemacher: envelope forward past that, but I still think they have a very similar coaching style 'cause Utah, if you remember, like they were kind of throw it when they have to, run the ball, play good defense, and that's kind of what Michigan wants to do is they just want bully people. And I think that he's a coach Mhm. Right. Yeah. hubs and talent, just they became such satellite had such a concentration of talent. It was them in Alabama. went four deep at every position, but now the landscape is so with NIL is so much more. Laid out and like, how does Kirby smart adapt to that new landscape? And I think he's done well enough, but there's a, but I think you can attribute NIL and not being completely loaded at every position is a reason they haven't been back to the Natty in a few years. Jacob Bunce: Yeah, and I mean Jordan Marshall is a dog. Like I'm not gonna sit here and say he's not a good running back. Andrew Marsh ⁓ on on a wide receiver, I mean he's he's fast, he's quick, you know, he can catch the ball in big moments, but to your point, I don't know. I just I've never been a big believer in Bryce Underwood. I think that, you know, he can move his legs, which has helped him, but yeah, he looks apart, but in big moments he chokes under pressure, he doesn't throw very well, he can get inaccurate, people get in his head. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah. No. So it's going to be it's going to be interesting I think but I do agree it is the same to their Georgia their Georgia did yeah today would they win the games are supposed to do they live up in the big moments like like that just it that yeah. Jacob Bunce: Yeah. Grant Nonemacher: He looks he looks the part. He's one of those g Jacob Bunce: So the same team, it's the same team, it's the same script. It's like it's just like yeah, are they gonna be able to do it this year or not? Grant Nonemacher: Yeah. Yeah. Jacob Bunce: He's not good under a rush. I mean, he'll scramble again, but I mean, he just gets frazzled really easily and in big moments he throws picks. Like that's just what he does. I mean, it happened in the Ohio State game, it happened in the Texas game. It's gonna keep happening. And, you know, when you play Oklahoma week two and then you go to Penn State and you're playing Indiana and Oregon, like having I having Ohio State beer y you they will be lucky to be walking in Ohio State. Speaking of that too, it's like what about Oregon? I mean I Grant Nonemacher: Right. For sure. They're there, dude, I looked at ⁓ Jacob Bunce: I think I don't know if you other than Michigan, I think I hate Oregon the s the second most just because they're Grant Nonemacher: Yeah, the taxes go. For sure. ⁓ I'm gonna be I was doing my I'm gonna be honest I was doing my research for this episode they brought back everyone they did not they brought back everything like outside of their tight end that they lost to the draft they are bringing back like if they can play yeah ⁓ yeah but in terms of personnel and they still have Dan Lanning and they still have the Dante more all I'm saying is All these defenses are gonna kill him. Yeah, these defense Jacob Bunce: ⁓ Yeah, dude. with one or two losses. Like, if they have only one loss, kudos to them. But I just find it really hard to believe that they beat Oklahoma, Indiana, Oregon, and Penn State. Grant Nonemacher: Right. No for yeah. Right. The Jacob Bunce: Well, their coordinators changed. Grant Nonemacher: For the yeah, exactly. For the first time in a long time, they are firmly in like tier two or tier like of the Big Ten. They are not a top tier Big Ten team at this point. They are in the firmly in that second tier. They are behind Ohio State. They're behind Oregon. I would argue that Penn State might be better than them just based on the talent. Because I we can move like because Penn State got so lucky. They yeah, he's gone, but they also imported Every other team is reloading more or less they have brought back everything and they're pissed. ⁓ I they there I think they make at least the final four of the the CFP. Yeah yeah that's my I think they I think. Maybe losing that maybe may. It's a some way exactly like big finally getting the world on their side like Oregon's finally going to absolutely. Yeah. Jacob Bunce: Really? I could see that. I could see that. And then probably losing by two or three touchdowns. And Franklin's finally gone too, dude, you know. Grant Nonemacher: the that entire Iowa State roster, which was a top fifteen team. They got Rocko Beck, they got the coach, they got they imp they basically they they're not it's a rebuild, but it is a rebuild that's already half finished 'cause they just brought it in from Ames, Iowa. You know what I mean? Like they're gonna mm. Jacob Bunce: And then just getting it absolutely stripped away. Like you have the winning lottery ticket in your hand and then a big gust of wind comes by and blows it into a big puddle and it disintegrates. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah, exactly. Just having it ripped out of there. Yeah, yeah, it blows. Exactly. Exactly. And then just rips their hearts out. Yeah. So I think I think I think Oregon's gonna be very good. But so all I'm saying is that I know of every year it's always it's Oregon's year. ⁓ This who is Oregon to you? Jacob Bunce: Ha ha. No, they're gonna be a good team. They're gonna be a great team. They're gonna bounce back pretty well, but the question always remains is is you know, are they gonna slip into what Penn State normally is and that is they can't make it far, or is that just the Franklin curse away? I don't know. I never thought Yeah, I was gonna say I never I mean Grant Nonemacher: Yeah. Exactly. It yeah, is the pens is the Penn State mm. Yeah, exactly. Is the is the go Yeah. Go ahead. Sorry. Jacob Bunce: You know who Oregon is to me? They are the Buffalo Bills of college football. Grant Nonemacher: They are the Buffalo Bills of College Football. They've done it. Jacob Bunce: They were they're just like th they're a worse version of Oregon. Like Oregon is the same team. They're way better, but they just can never seem to figure it out. And in big moments they get embarrassed two years in a row, getting absolutely ass whooped by Ohio State. I think in the first quarter, what, they were down like twenty five or thirty something points, and then getting smoked by Indiana. ⁓ my gosh, dude, like ha ha I mean I The biggest expectations, the best players, they they they everyone is on their dick and what do they do? They fuck it up somehow. They fuck it up sometime. And I mean their only losses last year, granted, were Indiana. They lost to Indiana in the regular season, which thirty to twenty, they they played pretty good and then Indiana pulled away. Grant Nonemacher: Right, no for sure. ⁓ yeah, no, Penn State is this is not No. No, they are not. Every single time somehow Right, for sure. Yep. ⁓ yeah, they got murdered. Yeah, they Michigan by Indiana. Yep, you're right. No, for sure. No, for sure. They've been humbled the last couple of years. I just hopefully I I we'll see what this new regime looks like for them. I just have a feeling that they'll be able to establish themselves as kind of like that upper in that upper tier of the big I still think you're right. Indiana, Ohio State, Oregon still own them. No, if you remember, no, you're yeah, Indiana that was a tight that was a tight tight tight game. Yeah, that was it Yeah, that was the one Jacob Bunce: It was a very tight game. It was a very, very tight game. Wait was that the wait wait wait wait, was that the game with the insane catch? Grant Nonemacher: Yeah, that was no, that was the Penn State game that India the one the reason no, it was the game that Jacob Bunce: That was the Penn State game, yeah, you're right. I g I I remember w I because the score is like oddly familiar. I remember this game. Grant Nonemacher: as long as they're as long as we're gonna be around. But in terms of like that next level, like the next tier of the Big Ten, I think them and Michigan and US C kinda all fall in that same sort of middle tier. Yeah. So That was at my the Penn State game was at my wedding. That was my that was my week that we were watching them the living room that Saturday or yeah. Jacob Bunce: That was fucking crazy. They're very similar. Yeah, they're very similar. I mean kinda switching gears, ⁓ one team I see on here that I don't know about you, but I feel like they're gonna perform exactly how they performed last year is BYU. Yeah, it was 13 to 10 at half. ⁓ but then Indiana came out and scored. They got a field goal. So yeah, the first half was was super close. Yeah, that was a good game. But I don't know. Yeah, I ⁓ it's hard to take Oregon seriously just until they prove it. But their schedule's not bad. I mean, you know, I think they Grant Nonemacher: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. They get they say they got this. Yeah, they're gonna be the same team. They got the same quarterback. Yeah. They lost their defensive coordinator to Michigan. So we'll be interesting to see how they how they handle that. But I don't think that he was ⁓ he was the he was the strength of that team anyway. Like the r it was their run game, their quick passing game, Rocco Becht making plays. I mean not Rocco Becht, ⁓ Bear Bachmeyer. Yeah, no, it was a that was a good game. So but you're right now that until they prove it. But I think in terms of in terms of like in terms of like just in terms of just teams with the least moving pieces and the least moving parts, Oregon takes that prize. That's all I'm saying. Jacob Bunce: I really I really can see them doing the same thing. Yeah, I mean that's where they're gonna have the biggest benefit, like let's be honest. ⁓ and they're at USC, they're at Ohio like at Ohio State is gonna be tough. And then they have Michigan at home, Washington at home to end the season. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah. So. Making plays with his legs, like that was the strength of that team more than the defense was really. So I think they're you're right. I think they're Yeah. And moving on to the big boy, we are a Ohio state podcast around these parts. We root for them. We are the Yankees fans of college football, but I don't, we do not, we do not apologize for wins around here. ⁓ so with Ohio state, they received 38 first place votes, which is more than triple, more than five times more than the next team. So even a team. So Jacob Bunce: Well they got a new defensive coordinator too, which I think will help, or hopefully it'll help. We'll see. Cause they were a fun team to watch, but a frustrating team to watch. I mean, I think they had some of the highest overs in the games that we bet on last year, if I'm not mistaken. Yeah, hey hey Bunts, you want to ride a sixty two and a half point over with me? ⁓ I guess. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah, yeah. So yeah, it'll be mm hmm. Yeah, for sure. For sure. They're the bet they're so fun. They're so fun. And then you're like, no, you're like, no, you're yeah, you're like, yeah. And it'll be 70 points in the third quarter. You're like, thank you, Grant. I'm like, hell yeah. Jacob Bunce: Yeah. Grant Nonemacher: They have the best player in college football in Jeremiah Smith. They have a quarterback coming back. Jacob Bunce: Fucking hate taking those. I love points, but man Grant Nonemacher: Th there's as soon as you get like yeah, it's like it's as soon as you kinda get over the fear factor of that a little bit and then you just ro watch it happen, you're just like, Yo, that's so satisfying. ⁓ but yeah, no, I think there Jacob Bunce: Well let's th let's just let's start let's start at the top. Arthur Smith, Matt Patricia, they have a fucking all star coaching squad. All I'm hearing about Arthur Smith is his play calling is different than the Ohio State kind of regimen and what they've been doing, but it it he'll adapt. I'm not worried about it at all. And I don't think he's gonna come in and say, Hey, my shit doesn't stink. I know what I'm doing. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah. Ryan Day. Jacob Bunce: Alright, let's move up the list a little bit, unless you wanted to have another remark. Grant Nonemacher: Yes. No, I I I just wanna talk ⁓ I just wanna go up just a couple as you move we can keep Yep, you got it. Yeah, exactly. That's where I wanted to go next. Yes. Jacob Bunce: I was gonna go to LSU. Well I guess first and foremost, do you do you think they are where they should be at thirteen? Do you think that's a fair ranking? Or do you think it's too much because of Lane Kippin or do you not think it's enough? Grant Nonemacher: Yeah, no, you know, there's No, he's, he's been home. I think the, and I think he's been, the NFL kind of humbled him a little bit. think he's kind of coming in with his, with his own version of it, with his, with his own version of a chip on his shoulder of like, no, I am a good core. I am a good coach. I am a good coordinator. I can put up good numbers. And the thing is too, he's, he's probably doing like just like Matt Patricia is doing calculus against teams playing algebra. He's going to be doing Yes. Yes. Because no I think it's fair because ⁓ they're they have the number one portal class. They got so they're it's it's high enough because they have the number one portal class, they got Sam Levitt, they got all these eyes coming in from all over the country, like big names, b like top like really powerful, they're really good weapons, really good defensive pieces, but Jacob Bunce: One hundred percent Grant Nonemacher: differential equations against defense is that haven't seen anything like this coming. So all I'm saying, you're right. So it's like when you've got two former NFL head coaches ⁓ as coordinators, you're in a position like you're in an amazing position. So I totally agree. I think it's also fair to put them in the middle of the pack here because at the end of the day, they're just pieces, right? You have they have to prove out that they are more than they're the s they're better than the sum of their parts. ⁓ because if you remember LSU last year was not good. They sucked ass. Like they they could not they could not play offense. Like they could not do anything. Jacob Bunce: Yeah, why don't you start with your take and I'll 'cause I can talk for fucking three hours on it. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah, so I think. Yeah, no, I'll get off. Let me so I have a few. So I think ⁓ biggest question mark about Ohio State that I've got is they lost. had seven first round players on that defense. Seven starters come went off, got drafted off that defense. So do they reload? How well do they reload? Do they become a more offensive minded football team? Do they rely more on Jeremiah Smith and their new ⁓ new wide receiver that they're bringing in? Jacob Bunce: It was seven and six. They were terrible. I mean after the season opener beating Clemson they fell apart. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah, exactly. They they they were and th and that that's really also kind of the disparagement of L of Clemson is the fact that they ⁓ they couldn't beat that L SU team as bad as they were. And also like can you talk Jacob Bunce: God dude, we got we got absolutely smoked week one last year too. Holy shit. Like generationally bad smoke or one in one and seven. Grant Nonemacher: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Like because last year they could lean on that defense forever and they would hold up and more and more times than not. Yeah. Yeah, some they're really horrible as yeah. Horrible. So it's like yeah, so I think L SU is very fairly no, I don't think so. I think they're gonna I think the game of the year is gonna be ⁓ Ole Miss versus L one of the games of the year is gonna be Ole Miss versus L S U in ⁓ that's gonna be cinema. I don't know what it's gonna look like. Yep, yep. It's in the Grove or where Jacob Bunce: Eleven defensive starters went in the draft. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah, more times than not, they did hold up until until Julian say and threw a pick six against Miami. And that was the only reason they lost that game. ⁓ So I think I do think that their defense is going to be just fine because Matt Patricia still that is still very good. And I was like, one second, let me finish my take and then you can all that you have the floor for as long as you like. Jacob Bunce: We're not gonna go one in seven ⁓ this year, people. That's just ⁓ And that's gonna be insane. That's in Mississippi too, isn't it? At Ole Mass. Yeah, ⁓ my God. He's good at grooming talent. I mean Grant Nonemacher: Where it's in Oxford, right? That's where yeah, it is. ⁓ Oxford, Mississippi. ⁓ so th I think yeah, no, I think they're gonna be a very interest All I'm saying is I think they're going to be in more. think Julian saying it's going to take that next step. Go is going to be a second year in the same, the second year in this offense kind of continue to grow. He's still going to have the same track team. got Bo Jackson coming back at running back. You're going to have Jeremiah Smith and hopefully their, their connection continues to grow. So I think they're going to score more points this year than they did before, because they might, they might have to, because that defense is going to be basically brand new and, ⁓ they're, it's going to, take them some time to get adjusted. Jacob Bunce: Yeah. Dude, they have a tough schedule. ⁓ my god. I do. So I mean Clemson, fine, they're gonna be Clemson, Louisiana Tech, yes, and then Ole Miss, A and ⁓ and then some bullshit teams, and then the last four games of the season, Alabama, Texas, Tennessee, and then Arkansas. Alabama, Texas, Tennessee is crazy. That is sickening. Grant Nonemacher: Do they? Do you have it pulled up? Mm-hmm. But I think Ohio State is still absolutely a national, national title contender making the playoffs is a given right at this point. It's just a matter of how far they can run in the CFP. Yeah. That's so tough. Yeah. They're gonna be they're gonna you talk talk about an over you talk about you talk about an over team you talk about an o your team going over and you talk about teams needing to score points, like they're gonna to keep up with Tennessee. Yeah. Yeah. Tennessee. Tenn and that's gonna be in ni yeah, ⁓ in Nealan Stadium. That's yeah. They're gonna they're gonna be a fun team. I'll I'm gonna watch all their games. Whatever happens, I'm gonna be watching. Jacob Bunce: Yeah, no, I mean honestly I don't disagree with anything that you're saying. The only thing I was gonna add when we're talking about defense is that great pickup from Bama, ⁓ James Smith. I mean, he's a beast, but to your point, having Matt Patricia, he knows how to groom talent. And no matter what, they always have a good defense. Is it gonna be the same caliber as the last couple of years, the last few years? Probably not. Like, let's be honest. Like, that is those are tough shoes to fill. They're at home for Bama and Texas, which helps, but then they're gone ⁓ at Tennessee. Grant Nonemacher: Mm. Jacob Bunce: That Bama game will be interesting to be honest with you. I mean Grant Nonemacher: That's the thing. Is like th what they're gonna be they're either gonna be a ⁓ an ⁓ a sp an offensive spectacle and they're just gonna be hanging fifty points a game because Lane Kiffin's Lane Kiffin, or they're gonna be a dumpster fire and it's gonna be the most karmic retribution of the w in the world and Lane Kiffin's gonna be eating shit for twelve weeks and it's also gonna be very funny to watch. So it's like it's very it's very it can go either way, but all I know is it's I'm gonna be watching every game. It's 'cause it's it's it's a Jacob Bunce: For sure. Grant Nonemacher: me tough. Yeah. The 24 first rounder 333 top 10. Jacob Bunce: Are they still gonna be an Are they still gonna be an A minus defense though? I think so. A maybe like, but again, I I say this about a lot of teams. It's you gotta play the shit ones good and let these guys eat and then obviously stand your ground with some of the tough because they don't have an easy schedule. I mean their schedule's very hard. Grant Nonemacher: ⁓ yeah, at least, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Lane Kiffin is a soap opera on and to himself. What are you gonna miss? What's that? Mm-hmm. Jacob Bunce: You know what I'm gonna miss? More than anything? The wonderful cameraman panning over to Brian Kelly's very red face. Very, very red, angry face, little face. I'm gonna miss that. Cause no matter how bad of a day I'm having, I know his day is a little bit worse. ⁓ and I'll be the first one to to admit it, but I agree. I Julian Saiyan, like, you know, being ⁓ being a being a true redshirt freshman, he's not the biggest guy on the planet either. And I think Ryan Day and that that team in general, you know, Brian Hartland and you know, they they they kind of reserved him at moments. ⁓ which makes sense, you know, to any any kind of new QB coming into the NCAA, especially playing on a team like Ohio State, but he left a lot on the table. There was a lot of of open receivers last year. And I don't know that if it's because he didn't have good Grant Nonemacher: yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's gonna yeah Yeah. I'm gonna miss his press conferences where he just yells at people. He's just as Yeah, Brian Collie. What a guy. He's this Notre Dame I don't think he's work I don't I think he's just I think he's just getting paid, honestly. I think he's does I think him and ⁓ yeah, yeah, I mean yeah, he's up yeah, he's ⁓ he's I think no, I think he's with Jimbo Fisher just cashing checks just cashing checks. Mm-hmm. Jacob Bunce: I'm just gonna yeah. I'm just gonna miss him in general. Grant Nonemacher: with such high expectations. Yeah. Jacob Bunce: Where did he go? Is he is he is he anywhere or is he just chillin'? Grant Nonemacher: Mm-hmm. Jacob Bunce: you know, downfield vision, or if it was just play calls, I I would probably say the play calls. You know, maybe his eyes were at the receiver that was supposed to catch the ball or that was the that was where the play was designed around, which is fine. But I agree. I think they're gonna be a much more powerful offense. You have Bo Jackson returning as running back who I thought was amazing. ⁓ you know, he's not Henderson or Judkins, but he's he's a good fucking player. He can catch the ball. Is he at the North Pole with all the other elves? Grant Nonemacher: ⁓ 'cause I think he also got a f where is he at? Yeah, so he's still got fifty four million dollars coming his way. So that's pretty funny. So he's just g he's got a f he's getting he's getting paid fifty mil just to not do anything. ⁓ no, it's nice. ⁓ yeah. No, for sure. And it's it's crazy that Deshaun Watson ⁓ gets i th he still has a a a female partner, considering he's got like abuse like a hundred women, but a quarter billion dollars will make any man look more He's pretty good. Yeah. Yeah. Jacob Bunce: Jeremiah Smith, the best player in the country. I don't want to hear anyone's argument on that. I think there's a consensus that he is the best player in the country. Chris Henry Jr., amazing pickup. I don't give a fuck if he's a freshman. I don't give a fuck if he's a freshman. If he's the second man on that that roster, people are going to be glued to Smith. And that's fine. I mean, Brandon Ennis is is there too, and I think, you know, he he's going to do what he needs to do, but ⁓ they have a super Grant Nonemacher: Yep. No I don't think anyone of us agree with you. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Yeah that's what is. Yeah he's a nasty. Jacob Bunce: Pretty nice. Maybe him and Deshaun Watson will become buddies. Hey, allegedly. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah. Is it? Allegedly, but I mean that's it's a lot of people, man. It's a lot of it's a lot of people. ⁓ but no, it's I think him, Jimbo Fisher and ⁓ Brian Kelly will just be on a yacht somewhere just counting bread. It's gonna be f it's so good for him. ⁓ I they Texas Tech is fascinating because I think they would have been top ten, but they had that whole Brent they had Brandon Soresby. That whole jok that whole Soresby saga. Jacob Bunce: Star team. They have a superstar team. And to your point, they have the same, they have the same track team, but that schedule. Like, you know, I'm not going to sit here and say it's easy. Like, they have to prove themselves and beat Texas on the road. They have to win the games like Indiana. They have to beat USC. Oregon is at home, which I think helps. Yeah, and I again I ⁓ I'm not gonna sit here and say anytime they that that matchup is it is it Grant Nonemacher: Yep, they got the same. They got the same track team. Go ahead. Jacob Bunce: What about Texas Tech? Grant Nonemacher: to beat Michigan. Yeah, they have to. Because they have one of the best rosters, but they were a quarterback away last year and Brendan Soresby was supposed to come in and be that answer for them. ⁓ but he gambled on his own games like a dumbass and they la and ⁓ he he lost the basically he he got he lost all of his eligibility and e they tried to remember they tried to do that whole legal rigmarole and it just fumbled it. So they they're Jacob Bunce: It's a cakewalk. ⁓ it's always a tough it's always a tough game. ⁓ Grant Nonemacher: It doesn't matter. It does not, dude, it doesn't matter if Michigan. Yeah. It's the emotions are just so high. Jacob Bunce: But being at home I think this year it just means something even more than last year. All of these comments, a new coach, ⁓ the it's just a game, Bryce Underwood not taking it seriously. Like, I hope all of those fucking videos are in this master five minute clip at the end of the year. Dogging them, dude, because I mean, I'll I'll be here. I was I we might even go to the game. I don't know. I I I just think like the biggest test to start out with confidence is just beating Texas. And I think they're gonna. Grant Nonemacher: It all, yeah. Jacob Bunce: Yeah. Grant Nonemacher: They're playing w they're gonna be rolling out Will Hammond again, who was okay, but he wasn't great last year. So I do think ⁓ there isn't so I do like the overall they like they bl they've splurged on the roster again. Like they spent all the money to get all the pieces. They reloaded all all over the place with weapons and defensive talent and things like that. But again, if you don't have a quarterback, it's really hard to be Yeah. Jacob Bunce: Yeah. They don't really have a a a a I think people are dick riding Arch Banning again just because of the game that he had towards the end of last season. And that's totally fine. I think he's a great quarterback. I think it's a great team. But I I don't know. I mean, I think they win that game and they're going to steamroll through the season. Again, Indiana, USC, Oregon, back to back to back is not a you know an easy thing to do by any means, but they don't scare me as much as this this s two-week or or Texas game. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah, it's a great way to start the season for sure. Jacob Bunce: I was gonna be say wouldn't be surprised if they kinda fall flat on their face. In in a sense. I mean, but but what's what's really hard for me to wanna commit to a take like that is they have a pretty easy schedule. ⁓ Yeah, I mean you could argue Houston might give ⁓ a run for their money. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah. Mm-hmm. No, I I don't. Yeah, I don't think Ohio State should be scared. I don't think Ohio State should be scared of anyone ever. Like they really shouldn't be scared. The only like the only reason Michigan was never even better than Ohio State, even in twenty three when they won the Natty, they weren't better than Ohio. They weren't they. Yeah, they weren't. But yeah, they weren't better than Ohio State in that game. They just had such a mental edge in that game. And I think at this point, Ohio State is like battle hardened. ⁓ The big twelve soft. Big twelve soft as fuck. BYU ⁓ that ⁓ they don't play BYU? ⁓ Wait ⁓ no okay. Well yeah, ⁓ Jacob Bunce: They don't play BYU. No, not that I'm I I don't think so. No, they play Houston twice. They play Colorado, Arizona State, Cincy, Baylor, Oklahoma State, TCU, West Virginia. So I don't know, dude. I mean, this could be they had they were what, eleven and one last year? Twelve and two, something like that, because they were the big twelve champion. Yeah, I mean they just shit down their leg, dude. Grant Nonemacher: Oklahoma State's interesting. But yeah, no then yeah, they yeah. Jacob Bunce: I think that edge is gone. Yeah, I think it's I think they they they had a lot of pressure. You know, Ryan Day got his W, he got his championship. I think they're back to being who they are. I mean the game means a lot to everybody in that that locker room, but they're not playing scared football when they play Michigan anymore. Like and being at home, I think they're gonna let the fucking cannons loose. So it'll be interesting, dude. Grant Nonemacher: Something like that, yeah. Yeah, yeah. So that's yeah, and they lost to Oregon in the playoff. They maybe that's counting as a loss. But no, ⁓ yeah, I Yes. Yeah. Jacob Bunce: ⁓ yeah, it's probably what it is. ⁓ that was yeah, that's right. That was my ⁓ that was my put my dick on the table. Grant Nonemacher: Yep. And no, no, no anymore. No, for sure. Exactly. That was the re that was the reason th yeah, that was yeah, you put you put everything yeah, you what w what paid for that? That was the trip to Chicago for the Bears playoff game, right? That that paid for, right? done for sure. And I think that, yeah, and I think that other and I think, ⁓ going back to what you were saying about leaving meat on the bone with Julian saying, I think Ryan day is, has proven a lot of times of like, take what the D he is the T is a ultimate take what the defense gives you don't force the issue, just win the game. He doesn't care about, he doesn't seem to care about style points in a lot of situations. He just wants to win. Yeah. Jacob Bunce: Yeah, I told Bridge Cheeks I was on like fifty seven billion flights last year that I didn't want to pay for another flight. And ⁓ I threw four hundred bucks on the Oregon spread and I said if they win I'm coming to to Chicago. And thank God I did, 'cause we were all together for the Bears Packers game. Grant Nonemacher: Right. Yeah. Hell yeah. I remember that. Yeah. That was Love it. That must have been the easiest that was the absolute classic. Classic, classic, classic. No, for sure. That was one of the most satisfying. Yeah, I that I've that was the biggest roller coaster I've ever been on in a football game. Like that I will remember that night for the rest of my life. Like that was that was Jacob Bunce: Insane. I wish I could go back to that night. No, he he he controls the clock. He he you know, they're they're not really rushing up to the ball unless they need to. I mean, they play very poised football. ⁓ Grant Nonemacher: So it's for sure. Exactly. So, so that's what I'm saying. So it's like, all I'm saying is like, it, when it defund and I think he knew as much as we knew that the defense he's had the last couple of years has been absolutely disgusting. So he was like, so he's played extra ball control. It helps. But all I'm saying is it dictates, think it's, I think it dictated the more I think about this team. I think the fact that their defense was so elite, it Jacob Bunce: And we're on mushrooms. Grant Nonemacher: That was special. Yeah, and we were on to yeah, and we were fucked up. That was special. That was special. ⁓ moving on bam. Jacob Bunce: I wouldn't say it bailed them out, but it definitely helped a ton. Like, yeah. ⁓ Bama being eleven. Kinda funny to me not being in the top ten. Grant Nonemacher: Talk yeah, talk and the you yeah, t yeah, yeah, talk and you just and you just talk about all these ⁓ talk about names talking about brand names and ⁓ teams that are th are ranked where they are just because of brand val like brand recognition. Like I feel like Alabama's starting to kind of get into that tier a little bit. Like if they don't if they don't make the playoff or or at least like or w do something like Jacob Bunce: I guess that's what happens when you get your back blown out by Indiana thirty eight to three. Grant Nonemacher: Influence how they played offense, right? Like similar to how like the 2000 Ravens or the Steelers of the like 2010s kind of played or yeah, the 20 like early 2010s like those teams that went to the Superbowl like they played offense a certain way to complement the defense and I think now they're gonna I think they're They're gonna have to let the dogs loose on offense a little bit more to kind of help out the defense because the defense still may be very good But I think the offense is definitely gonna be the strength of the team this year. That's kind of where Jacob Bunce: Yeah. Grant Nonemacher: Top of the SEC sort of ⁓ piece sort of ⁓ movements here. Like they're gonna keep falling down. Like I don't really like the trajectory of where they're headed right now. Like Calen DeBoore is still a good coach, but Alabama is gonna move towards like that. He's fine. No, no. No, it's not his fault. It's not his fault, but it's it's impossible. I'm at with it. ⁓ So I think so I think and I so I think we're and I think Ryan Day is smart enough to know if we know that and we're we're. Yeah yeah and for yeah right. John yeah for you. Seriously. ⁓ my God man. ⁓ man. And I don't know if you've seen John mature John Metteers also looks like a shit brick houses. Go look go look at how he's a lot of these quarterbacks are. Jacob Bunce: Yeah, no, I agree. And it looks like Julian Sand put some weight on him, so hopefully he can do a QB sneak this year. That'd be great. He's fine. He doesn't he doesn't fit the bill for me. I don't know. I d and I don't think it's really his coaching style. I weirdly enough, it's just That would be really cool. Well, I mean no, it's it's yeah, it's not his fault. Grant Nonemacher: He got tasked he got put in an impossible situation. Like you can't Jacob Bunce: Yeah, Saiyan Saiyan's legs looked like they got like walking into camp and and seeing him ⁓ kinda take a few snaps. I was like, Okay, they they made him eat a little bit. But they're losing they're losing pull. Obviously Sabin was a lot of that pull. Grant Nonemacher: Mm. But they also were getting the top recruiting class every year. Because and that but and Yeah, he did not lift it. Yeah, he did not. Yeah, he did not lift a single. He did not do a single weight lift or he do a single lift outside of back squat this entire offseason. So all he did was back squat watching that play at the one against Indiana. So, yeah, no, I think. Jacob Bunce: Yeah, that's true. I I don't know. I mean I guess it just shows that when you actually have to raise money from alumni and pay people money that no one from Alabama's really doing that well. If you want me being honest, yeah. Yeah, yeah, and then then ⁓ half the people are, you know, living in a trailer, they can't really assist. Yeah. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah, other pen. See Jacob Bunce: Well, I think I can't believe we just yeah, we went through all twenty five. What were you gonna say? I was gonna say I think that's a good good show for the people. Grant Nonemacher: It's like you kinda the socioeconomic status of your university really starts to come to the forefront when you actually have to play baby. Yeah. Bro. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, you got you got ten guys in mansions and then you got ⁓ yeah, ten guys and mansions and then the everyone else is in a trailer park. It really makes it hard to build an N I L fund. So I yeah, so it'll be yeah, it's gonna be interesting to see the how Yeah, no, no, I think does I'm Yeah, it was really good show. I think I think overall, this is going to be a fast and I think you've kind of got like the cream of the crop at the top and then you've just got a whole lot of sameness. And from like from like seven, no from like nine to 25. I think you've got a lot of a lot of variable movement. I think some teams can jump up some teams can fall down really fast. But I think outside of Miami, like Miami and up in this poll, I think Jacob Bunce: Now I think yeah, I'm sorry, I was just like I honestly like Bama's just one of those I don't really have much more to say, but go ahead. Grant Nonemacher: No, no, I was Like those are the teams that I would put everything on to basically make the playoff. And then after that, think this college football season is going to be, has so many question marks. It's going to be a lot of fun. No, it's just like because the thing is like this isn't just a a one year thing where like you raise like you raise money one time, right? Say, all right, every all right, Alabama, Crimson Tide people, let's raise twenty million to ⁓ build a football team in there. It's like, All right, cool. All right, everyone's like, All right, yeah, I can pitch in for twenty million. But then it's literally the ⁓ it's like that scene in elf. It's like, All right, let's get ready for next year and like, wait a second, we just did this Jacob Bunce: Yeah, I think so too. ⁓ all right, well, another good show I think for the next one. ⁓ you know Yeah, we'll we'll we'll we'll keep you guys posted. There's a few different things that we could do for next week, but ⁓ appreciate all to appreciate y'all tuning in and ⁓ look forward to the next one. Grant Nonemacher: Yes, sir. So longest episode yet. This is this is going to be over an hour. Absolutely. good night everyone. Bye guys. Like you know what we just did this five minutes ago. Like they have to perpetually keep refilling the war chest and it's like th Alabama doesn't have any ⁓ to my knowledge, they don't really have any alumni that are like that. Like Michigan's got Larry Ellison who's worth more money than God and like Texas has all the oil money and ⁓ Ohio State's got billionaires and Indiana's got billi like Jacob Bunce: All right, peace. No. Grant Nonemacher: I Indiana's like average net worth of their alumni base has to be like ⁓ like over two hundred yeah this no like Indiana like I don't know about you. I know a lot of Indiana a lot of families. Like I'm from Gurney, like I knew a lot of a lot of families in my area, like Lincolnshire, Schomburg, like a lot of families went to Indiana and they're doing pretty well and like they're not like Jacob Bunce: Sixty two cents. Okay. Grant Nonemacher: that special. So but all I'm saying is Indiana's alumni base is massive. Like you saw it during the national championship. How many families could literally like they literally flooded Miami's home stadium just because they could. You know what I mean? So all I'm saying is th these some of these northern school the Jacob Bunce: Yeah, I mean I think part of it is that but you have to realize too, I mean, how how how many times is Indiana gonna make it to the championship? These are people that are probably just like living for the moment. Grant Nonemacher: No, but all I'm saying is all I'm saying I I just mean in the sense of like now that everyone can play by the same rules and everyone can pay everyone over the table, it it it it Bama's gonna fall off. Yeah, exactly. Because Indiana Alabama is not rich. Indiana is pretty wealthy. That's all I'm trying to make. That's all in schools like Indiana that have bread to pe to kind of refill that ward. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Jacob Bunce: Yeah, that's right. Yeah, then so Bama's just a normal school. I get you. Yeah, but I I you know, I understand. Yeah, and I I I we're on the same page and I like yeah, Bama, whatever, fuck Bama. ⁓ How about their their neighbor, old Miss? Grant Nonemacher: F b Bama had their run. ⁓ all missed. Yeah. They they they got they still have Chambliss. They still have the quarterback, which is Jacob Bunce: I think they're gonna be I think they're gonna be a good team, dude. I mean they retained a pretty decent amount of their roster even though obviously they lost Lane Kiffin, but Grant Nonemacher: Yeah. They lost their they lost Charlie Weiss as well. They lost the O. C. or the O. C.'s gone as well. Jacob Bunce: Yeah, but I I think like if if you can do or mimic even half of what you did or seventy five percent of what you did last year, and let's be honest, I mean, they probably should have won that Miami game. ⁓ and I don't know if it would have been any different than playing Indiana. I personally think it probably would have better would've I w I'm not saying Indiana would have lost. I'm just saying maybe the the competition would have been a little better because, you know, I mean Grant Nonemacher: Yeah. Yeah, I'm thinking. Right. No, India Indiana It Indiana was winning then. Mm. ⁓ yeah. Jacob Bunce: Chambliss, in my opinion, is just spunier. He can run. He's fast. He has a rocket. Carson Beck is Carson Beck like whatever. It was, you know, more of Miami's defense that kept it a game. ⁓ but the discipline from Indiana, like you were talking about with Mendoza doing what he needs to do, I mean, that's that's what won it. It was it was just a a well old machine. so their schedule too, I mean, you know. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah, he's he he he can do right. Yep. Right. Right. Yeah, just precision. Jacob Bunce: Again, Missou, they're gonna win. Texas, yeah, I don't know, Georgia, Oklahoma, I think they win. Texas, Georgia. I mean, if they can if they can come out of this eleven and one, I mean I think I think they're a playoff team too. I think ⁓ I think so too. Oklahoma's a tough one. Oklahoma's a tough one. I think they're a great team and they're always a great team, but do they have it enough to Grant Nonemacher: Yeah, they can make the playoffs they're a play I think they're a playoff I think I think it'll be a playoff team. Yeah. Yeah. This Mm. Be a natty. Yeah. Yeah. Jacob Bunce: be in the college football playoff this year. I think so. But I don't know if they go past the first round just like how they lost this year or last year against Alabama. Grant Nonemacher: Mm. They the fact that they Yeah, that'll be an intra that it's gonna be an interesting gut test, gut check for them because the way they lost. They were up like twenty points in that game and in and Alabama walked them down, right? Like John Matthews Jacob Bunce: Yeah, it's just like another one of those. It's like, Man, did did you guys fumble under the pressure or was Alabama that good? And I think they just fell under the pressure. Grant Nonemacher: Right, exactly. Me too. I think they fumbled and like literally they fumbled and they threw picks and they let you know. Yeah, for sure. And I think ⁓ I yeah, so I I yeah, so I think they still have John Matteer, they still have the coach, they still have that the the the defensive s like Yeah. Yeah, yeah, he did. I shout out John Matteo. We put a lot of money on his rush on it. Anytime touchdown score, John Matteer ca cash cow. ⁓ Jacob Bunce: And then we got to watch a dog shit game of Indiana and Alabama. Yep. Yep. Matear's a dog, dude. He made us a good amount of money last year. Shout out Mateira, dude. Yeah. Grant Nonemacher: ⁓ but it's like yeah, I think so if if John Mateer can like throw can like throw consistently in addition to the scrambling ability, they can be a problem. Like but like you said, like they ha they're gonna have to be able to score, like they're in that top ten tier, which like you said is the playoff. ⁓ these are the gonna probably gonna like seven or eight of these teams are gonna be in the playoff, if not more. Like s Jacob Bunce: I agree. Yeah, and Ben Arbuckle I think is returning as their O. C, so and he did a pretty good job last year. Mm-hmm. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah, so they another year in that system. Yeah, another year in that s and I think John Mateira also hurt his hand last year at some point and he was kind of yes, ⁓ Yes. So it's like if he can stay healthy and he can be a little bit more consistent as a passer, they can make some noise. It's just a matter of how much noise. So 'cause that defense is still gonna be there. Yeah, Brent Ven mm. Yeah. No. Jacob Bunce: He did. Yep. And he came back. Crazy. Yeah. I mean they they barely lost to Old Miss too in the regular season. I mean, it wasn't like they got smacked. It was thirty four, twenty six, I think. Yeah, twel thirty four to twenty six. Grant Nonemacher: Yeah. And Brent Venables is still gonna have that defense helm in, so it's gonna be interesting. All right. ⁓ moving up just a little bit, let's ⁓ we can ⁓ we can talk about ⁓ Indi like you just wanna get to Indiana wanna talk about Indiana? I mean Miami. Jacob Bunce: Yeah, I don't I we can skip A and ⁓ we can skip Miami. Like honestly at Miami's there or whatever, I I don't think they're gonna be as good as people think they are. Grant Nonemacher: They're gonna yeah, they got Derry they Yeah, Derry and Mensa. ⁓ they still got Jacob Bunce: The only thing helping Miami is their fucking schedule. I mean, I think they're gonna lose in Notre Dame. Yeah, dude. Like I again, that that's the only reason why they're they're ranked seven. ⁓ yeah, we we we kinda started with Indiana. I you kinda we talked about this offline i a little bit already and kinda where I'm thinking about Indiana, but you can start if you want. I I don't know if we're now aligned if your opinions changed on this, but Grant Nonemacher: Yeah. The ACC saw the ACC sucks ass. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I th no, I think yeah, I think they're still like they bring in Josh Hoover, they bring in a lot of guys. They they're they lost so much, right? They lost their they lost a lot. Like all those JMU guys that were the reason they were in the natty and the reason that Kurt Signetti kinda tr was able to make that transition so smooth, they're all gone. So like how well they can reload ⁓ one one second.
