- 0:19major organized retail theft operation out of
- 0:22Sacramento County has been busted. But what's
- 0:25turning heads this morning is what happened after
- 0:27the arrest. Detectives say 35 -year -old Anthony
- 0:30Vargas is tied to roughly 50 thefts between December
- 0:34and April. targeting stores like Home Depot and
- 0:37Lowe's across Sacramento and neighboring counties.
- 0:40Investigators say Vargas made it a routine, stealing
- 0:43high -value power tools in the morning, then
- 0:46flipping them same day for cash at local pawn
- 0:49shops. A search warrant recovered more than $10
- 0:52,000 in stolen merchandise, but detectives believe
- 0:55the total scope could be much larger. Vargas
- 0:58was arrested on multiple felony charges, including
- 1:01organized retail theft. with bail initially set
- 1:04at $100 ,000. But here's the twist. He was released
- 1:08on his own recognizance, and within hours, investigators
- 1:11say he stole a $650 table saw from another Home
- 1:16Depot and tried to pawn it. Detectives quickly
- 1:19tracked him down in South Sacramento and arrested
- 1:22him for a second time and recovered the stolen
- 1:24item. A judge has now approved a $250 ,000 bail
- 1:29enhancement. This investigation is ongoing and
- 1:32detectives suspect that multiple pawn shops could
- 1:35be involved. And in other activity this week,
- 1:39Sacramento police arrested two people after locating
- 1:43a stolen vehicle out of Missouri near Richards
- 1:46Boulevard. Officers also recovered a legally

- 1:54awaiting extradition. In a separate incident
- 1:57near 3rd and K Street, bicycle officers contacted
- 2:01a suspect selling narcotics. That investigation
- 2:04led to the recovery of a loaded, unregistered
