- 0:39That's quite amazing. We're going to see who's coming
- 0:41up next. Not organized, but we're going
- 0:43to see what's going on here. And we're going to have a lot of
- 0:46fun as we continue here in Denver, Co at the USTFCCCA
- 0:51convention. I almost said Winter Meeting
- 0:53Convention here in 2022. All right, I'm letting everybody
- 0:56introduce themselves. Go ahead and introduce yourself
- 0:58here, Chris. I'm Chris Weed.
- 1:00I'm at Seattle Pacific University and.
- 1:03Yeah, I'm a I'm a regular here at the convention.
- 1:05So yeah, well, do you jumping ahead on my questions.
- 1:08I'm sorry. Let's first take a step back at
- 1:10Seattle Pacific. Which Seattle is gorgeous, by
- 1:12the way. What?
- 1:13Did I just hear someone someone was there for the Division Two
- 1:16meet? And they told me about something
- 1:18that I really got to check out. Oh yeah.
- 1:19Now I don't remember what it is. Those are museums.
- 1:21They're like a. Hall.
- 1:22It's got to the. It's got to be Mo Pop, the
- 1:25Museum of Pop History, and it's incredible, yeah.
- 1:27He was my friend from Emory Riddle, actually.
- 1:29Oh yeah, he's, yeah, he told. Me about.
- 1:31It, yeah. It was a Girvana room and a
- 1:32Pearl Jam, yeah. And and I think Bill Gates put a
- 1:36lot of money towards that and I think Eddie Vedder did
- 1:39contribute and so they made sure he got his own.
- 1:41Room. Yeah, but what do you, what I
- 1:42was really getting at? What do you coach there at
- 1:44Seattle? I'm mainly our distance coach.
- 1:46I'm associate head coach there. And obviously doubling other
- 1:49stuff when needed, but primarily distance.
- 1:51Yeah, Coach doesn't come with just one alley.
- 1:53No, it's a big it's a lot of hats.
- 1:55Yeah, I'm a track coach that specializes in this.
- 1:57There you go. So I love it.
- 1:58I love it. So you said you're a convention
- 2:01regular. How many years have you been
- 2:02coming? Here, this is my 7th year, yeah,
- 2:04So it's been pretty involved in committees and a lot of things.
- 2:08So it's been just when I think about.
- 2:12This podcast, you know, coaches connection, it just feels like
- 2:16an extension of what we do here, you know?
- 2:18So it's a community and a lot of collaboration, sharing ideas.
- 2:21It's. Great.
- 2:22I actually kind of wonder. I mean, I kind of know where I
- 2:24got the idea for it and what I wanted to do for.
- 2:26I wonder because this is my, this is my Super Bowl and I love
- 2:30going to the incidentally championships and that is
- 2:31amazing. They are phenomenal.
- 2:33But to me, this is my this is my week.
- 2:36Man. Oh, I know, and I'm wondering.
- 2:39And I wonder if there's something subconsciously that
- 2:41that's what helped me. Because I actually started this
- 2:43before COVID, I was a I was a pre COVID podcaster.
- 2:47So I wonder if that there's something kind of subconscious
- 2:48of that. So tell me as you so you've got
- 2:51it down. You've been here seven years you
- 2:52got it down like you know you got the schedule and you got to
- 2:54work your time. What are you looking forward to
- 2:56the most this week? I always look forward to a lot
- 2:59of our committee work You know we we these these committees are
- 3:02you know I'm on Division 2 executive committee and and
- 3:05serve as Vice President for that committee and so there's a lot
- 3:07of really. Interesting legislation that
- 3:10we're talking about right now some proposals and and and
- 3:13that's just a really hard working group it's it's
- 3:15thankless work in many ways it's it's it's conference calls every
- 3:18month but then this is our time like okay we're together we're
- 3:21in a room and it's just people who are very invested in the
- 3:24sport. I I obviously one of my
- 3:27highlights. Obviously Bowerman, you can't go
- 3:30wrong with that but the Coaches Hall of Fame is a big deal for
- 3:33me, especially as a younger coach and I'm in my 30s and and
- 3:36looking at. Being inspired by these coaches
- 3:38from these. Amazing people.
- 3:40Yeah, and not all of them at big Power Five schools either.
- 3:43Some of the best coaches are coaching at high school.
- 3:46They're coaching at smaller schools.
- 3:47And so for me, when I'm thinking about where my career is going
- 3:52and. It just gives me so much hope
- 3:55and like what is possible in in, in this profession, you know?
- 3:58So I know I just listed basically everything about
- 4:00convention. No, no.
- 4:01You missed like 100 things. Actually.
- 4:03Come on, man, there's a lot more going on here.
- 4:05Well, hey, I do really do appreciate your working on the
- 4:08committee, right? Because not everybody wants to
- 4:09do that and things like that. So it is a service.
- 4:11It's an extra thing. You don't get paid.
- 4:12I'm assuming you don't get paid extra for.
- 4:14That's all I thought so. So it's extra hours while you're
- 4:17still trying to be a family man, you're married, etc.
- 4:20Plus coach. So I do appreciate that he's
- 4:22award you. I've got some random.
- 4:23Questions here. Awesome.
- 4:24Hey, random questions, let's do. It they are off the wall, random
- 4:27here, so one through 100 you get to pick the. #38 why?
- 4:32Why 38? This is gonna.
- 4:35I don't even It's in high school we had what we called red
- 4:39numbers. Like red.
- 4:40Like Red #5. Like like Star Wars X-Men
- 4:42Fighters. Before every race we would check
- 4:45in Red 38 standing by. So you were red. 38 was red 38
- 4:50back in high school. Thomas Union go Pelicans.
- 4:51You know, as a former poker player, I tell you, you should
- 4:53always bet on the red 38 on the roulette machine.
- 4:55OK? Actually, the real the real
- 4:57advice would be don't play roulette.
- 4:58Well, of course not A. Good game 38 here.
- 5:01This is perfect for what we were just talking about earlier.
- 5:03It's Touch on Time. What's your favorite music
- 5:06artist and song? My favorite music artist and
- 5:09song, my favorite band right now is the war on drugs.
- 5:12They're they're band out of Philly.
- 5:13They're incredible, very layered.
- 5:17Adam the lead guy is is an incredible musician.
- 5:21Favorite song. Gosh, I'm much more of a much
- 5:26more of an album guy. I'm a I'm a vinyl guy but over
- 5:32100 vinyls and so more of an album person.
- 5:35So Speaking of songs is tough. One song, one song that you can
- 5:39put on repeat 100 times so you better like it.
- 5:41What's the one song yeah you got going on here?
- 5:45Like, what's your favorite war on Drug song now?
- 5:46Yeah, if you had one, Drug Song would be It's their last.
- 5:52Their last song in reverse, it's called In Reverse.
- 5:55I Love It. It's their last song on their
- 5:57third album. So I'm not.
- 5:59I'm a Christian hip hop fan most exclusively in the ground.
- 6:01On top of that, I'm going to listen to War on Drugs in
- 6:04Reverse that. What I'm saying Yeah, listen,
- 6:07that album, it's great. So I'm not gonna do it.
- 6:10Listen to one song. That's great, man.
- 6:12So we got a we got a song recommendation as well.
- 6:14I love it, man. Well, Chris, thank you so much
- 6:15for being here, man. Let's get.
- 6:16Ourselves in tonight? Thanks for being on the live.
