- 2:45Morning sent you. In local news, Boston Mayor
- 2:50Michelle Wu has canceled her speech at Harvard
- 2:53Law School's Class Day ceremony in solidarity
- 2:56with graduate student workers who are currently
- 2:59on strike during commencement week. The decision,
- 3:02announced a day ago, was shared via email to
- 3:05graduates. Wu's office stated that despite repeated
- 3:08efforts to reach a compromise with the union,
- 3:11no agreement was reached. The Harvard Graduate
- 3:15Student Union has been striking since April 21st,
- 3:18advocating for higher wages and protections for
- 3:21non -citizen workers. Mayor Wu, a Harvard alumna,
- 3:25has expressed her commitment to the labor movement
- 3:28and respect for picket lines. Now on to sports.
- 3:37Adam Silver, the NBA commissioner. announced
- 3:41the league will adopt an artificial intelligence
- 3:43automated system to review out -of -bounds calls.
- 3:47This decision comes after a controversial moment
- 3:50in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals between
- 3:53the San Antonio Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
- 3:57Despite the ball hitting Thunder forward Chet
- 4:00Holmgren, Spurs center Victor Wembenyama was
- 4:03wrongly assessed a turnover. Silver mentioned
- 4:06that the new system will utilize technology similar
- 4:10to Hawkeye, ensuring calls are made automatically.
- 4:13He emphasized that this would allow referees
- 4:16to concentrate on more subjective calls, improving
- 4:19overall officiating. In local sports, the Red
- 4:24Sox are right back at it this afternoon at 4
- 4:27-10, hosting the Braves in the rubber match at
- 4:30Fenway after a dominant 8 -0 shutout yesterday.
- 4:35Connolly Early was magnificent on the mound,
- 4:38scattering four hits over seven innings with
- 4:41seven strikeouts. Jaron Duran went four for four
- 4:45with a home run, and Sadon Raffaella added three
- 4:49hits with two RBIs as Boston put the series on
- 4:52even footing. Now Peyton Tall takes the ball
- 4:56against Atlanta's Chris Sale with a chance to
- 4:59grab the series win. The offense has to stay
- 5:02sharp. Yesterday they generated eight runs, but
- 5:05consistency has been a problem in this series.
- 5:09First pitch at 4 -10. Meanwhile, the Patriots
- 5:13wrapped up signings of a couple draft picks.
- 5:17Tight end Eli Raridon from Notre Dame and linebacker
- 5:21Quintavious Hutchins out of Boston College both
- 5:25inked deals today. Raridon is a big target at
- 5:296 -6. who had a solid junior campaign with 32
- 5:33receptions for 482 yards. They'll compete for
- 5:38snaps in what could be an evolving tight end
- 5:40room. Hutchins adds depth to the linebacker core
- 5:44as the Pats continue ramping up their OTA sessions,
- 5:48heading into mandatory minicamp in mid -June.
- 5:53In top news, Uganda has ordered the closure of
- 5:57its border with Congo. where suspected cases
- 6:00of a rare type of Ebola are surging. The Ugandan
- 6:04health workers were exposed to the disease from
- 6:06Congolese patients. This measure, which contradicts
- 6:10World Health Organization guidance, raises fears
- 6:13of contagion in East Africa. The border closure
- 6:17will allow crossings only for emergency cases,
- 6:20including outbreak response and humanitarian
- 6:22needs. Anyone entering from Congo will undergo
- 6:26mandatory isolation for 21 days. Congo has confirmed
- 6:31101 cases, with suspected cases nearing 1 ,000.
- 6:36Health officials urge vigilance as Uganda reports
- 6:39seven cases and increasing exposure among health
- 6:43workers. In business news… Snowflake stock surges
- 6:49nearly 40 % as artificial intelligence acceleration
- 6:52drives record product revenue growth. The cloud
- 6:56software company makes a $6 billion commitment
- 6:59to expand collaboration with Amazon Web Services
- 7:03to help customers deploy artificial intelligence
- 7:05faster. Shares of Snowflake were flying toward
- 7:09their highest level ever in after -hours trading
- 7:12on Wednesday. after the cloud software company
- 7:14beat fiscal first -quarter earnings expectations
- 7:17by a wide margin and raised its full -year outlook.
- 7:22As use of artificial intelligence by companies
- 7:25accelerates, demand for the company's core data
- 7:28platform business continues to grow, Snowflake
- 7:32chief financial officer Brian Robbins said. During
- 7:35the latest quarter, 46 customers crossed the
- 7:38threshold of spending more than $1 million on
- 7:41a trailing 12 -month basis, Robbins said, which
- 7:45compares with 26 customers a year ago. In crypto
- 7:49movement, Bitcoin is down 3 % to about $74 ,000.
- 7:56Ethereum is down 4 % to just under $2 ,000. And
- 8:01XRP is down 3%. to $1 .29. Moving on to a more

- 8:44Hingham, Brookline, and Framingham, just be sure
- 8:48to tell them sunny morning sent you by. And now,
- 8:52back to the show. Let's talk science. Four drones
- 8:57will go where no astronauts have landed yet.
- 9:00As NASA looks ahead to Artemis III in mid -2027,
- 9:04the agency is sharing new details on several
- 9:07projects, including a future permanent moon base
- 9:10and a drone mission called MoonFall. The mission
- 9:14will send four drones to survey the surface of
- 9:17the moon's south pole to identify potential landing
- 9:20sites for future Artemis astronauts. According
- 9:24to the update, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory
- 9:26in Southern California has been developing the
- 9:29drone design and testing prototype hardware ahead
- 9:33of the scheduled 2028 launch. Each drone will
- 9:37land on the moon's surface and gather high -resolution
- 9:40imagery of the terrain over a single lunar day,
- 9:43which is up to 14 Earth days. After each drone's
- 9:47last flight, its survive -the -night payload
- 9:50will continue to work for several months. Payloads
- 9:54designed to survive the night can endure sub
- 9:56-zero temperatures of the lunar night, which
- 9:59can reach as low as minus 208 degrees Fahrenheit.
- 10:03Each of the four drones should weigh about 550
- 10:06pounds and stand 4 feet tall and 7 feet in diameter.
- 10:11They will use a lunar dashcam imaging system
- 10:14to create maps of the terrain. The drones will
- 10:18also be equipped with a laser retroreflector
- 10:21array for precise location tracking, a neutron
- 10:24spectrometer system to determine subsurface water
- 10:27presence, and a spectrometer to measure radiation.
- 10:31Texas -based Firefly Aerospace was selected to
- 10:34build the spacecraft that will transport the
- 10:37drones. Firefly's Elytra spacecraft will carry
- 10:40the drones for a 45 -day transit from Earth to
- 10:44the Moon. After entering lunar orbit, It will
- 10:47perform a braking maneuver to send out the drones
- 10:50roughly 31 miles above the lunar south pole.
- 10:54No stranger to lunar exploration, Firefly Aerospace's
- 10:59Blue Ghost lander became the first commercially
- 11:02built lander to reach the lunar surface in March
- 11:052025. While on the Moon, Blue Ghost delivered
- 11:0910 NASA instruments designed to gather lunar
- 11:12subsurface data and snap some beautiful images
- 11:15of a solar eclipse. Some scientists worry that
- 11:19extracting resources from the Moon could jeopardize
- 11:22research, while many indigenous nations see the
- 11:25Moon as sacred and oppose any desecration. As
- 11:29of now, NASA and 66 other nations have signed
- 11:33the Artemis Accords. While not an international
- 11:36treaty, the Artemis Accords is an agreement for
- 11:39high -level principles of space exploration,
- 11:42providing a basic legal framework for exploring
- 11:45and developing the lunar surface during this
- 11:47century. However, the NASA -led Artemis Group
- 11:51is in direct competition with an initiative led
- 11:54by China to explore the lunar South Pole and
- 11:57potentially extract its resources. And in entertainment
- 12:03news… Steven Spielberg spoke out against artificial
- 12:07intelligence in filmmaking during a recent appearance
- 12:11on Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson's IMO podcast.
- 12:15While the legendary director believes AI can
- 12:19assist in finding solutions to medical issues,
- 12:22he opposes its role in the creative process in
- 12:25Hollywood. Where I don't love AI is where it
- 12:28takes a position or there's an empty chair at
- 12:31a writer's table, Spielberg stated. Use AI as
- 12:35a tool, but do not use AI as the final word on
- 12:38anything creative, he emphasized. Leonardo DiCaprio
- 12:43also expressed concerns, stating that anything
- 12:45authentically considered art must come from a
- 12:48human being. Well, alrighty folks, it's time
- 12:53for the quote of the day. And today, our quote
- 12:57comes from the American science fiction writer
- 12:59Isaac Asimov. And he said, The saddest aspect
- 13:04of life right now is that science gathers knowledge
- 13:07faster than society gathers wisdom. And that's
- 13:11a wrap for this morning. You can check out our
- 13:15Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok for some captivating
- 13:19aerial videos with local news and the weather
- 13:22reports. Have an amazing day, my good friends.
