- 0:00Speaker 1: Football four is powered by the Inside of the Birds podcast.
- 0:03Speaker 1: It is brought to you by the Fanatics Sportsbook at
- 0:05Speaker 1: Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City. Jeff Mocher is here
- 0:09Speaker 1: today from Inside the Birds and Philly Voice given his
- 0:13Speaker 1: voice on the eagles improbable victory over the Rams yesterday
- 0:19Speaker 1: and the Rams obviously showing why they are a, you know,
- 0:22Speaker 1: big time contender in the NFC. They feel that they
- 0:26Speaker 1: are right there with the Philadelphia Eagles, and for that Sunday,
- 0:29Speaker 1: for essentially the entire game, they were the better team.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Let's bring Jeff Mocher into the conversation here on a
- 0:38Speaker 1: wild game motion. I know over the years we've seen
- 0:40Speaker 1: a ton of wild moments, but that one has to
- 0:43Speaker 1: take the cake of how the Eagles were able to
- 0:45Speaker 1: come back and win that game with the way that
- 0:48Speaker 1: they got not one but two blockfield goals. I mean,
- 0:51Speaker 1: and you needed both of those block field goals to
- 0:54Speaker 1: be able to win that game yesterday. So is this
- 0:57Speaker 1: a situation where you watch that game and field confinitely
- 1:00Speaker 1: that Philadelphia is the better team or is just one
- 1:03Speaker 1: of those just hey, they've found a way to win,
- 1:05Speaker 1: but you got to get better.
- 1:08Speaker 2: That's a lot of questions. I don't know is I
- 1:12Speaker 2: feel like I saw two different Eagles teams in one game.
- 1:16Speaker 2: So one of them was better than the Rams, the
- 1:17Speaker 2: other one was clearly not. So it just depends on
- 1:20Speaker 2: which Eagles team specifically offense, although we can talk about
- 1:24Speaker 2: the run defense too. But yeah, I mean, look, you
- 1:29Speaker 2: win a game like that and you have to go
- 1:32Speaker 2: back and look at all the things that went wrong.
- 1:34Speaker 2: But I think first and foremost you have to realize
- 1:38Speaker 2: how good you are to be able to do that.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I mean, to be able to execute offensively, defensively and
- 1:46Speaker 2: on special teams, but not one, but two blocked field
- 1:49Speaker 2: goals when you need it the most. There's not a
- 1:51Speaker 2: lot of teams good to be able to do that.
- 1:53Speaker 2: I know that there's a flucish nature of it, but
- 1:57Speaker 2: I would disagree sort of like the team that did
- 1:59Speaker 2: the mirror go in the Midlands too, right, that was
- 2:02Speaker 2: a very very talented offense that just pay a live like.
- 2:06Speaker 2: You can't do that if you don't have guys like
- 2:08Speaker 2: DeShawn Jackson and Macklin and Zick right and Brent Selick.
- 2:11Speaker 2: So I think that the Eples have a lot of
- 2:14Speaker 2: things to work on. But I also think you to
- 2:17Speaker 2: your question, not a lot of teams could have pulled
- 2:19Speaker 2: that off, even with the momentum changers. They just don't
- 2:23Speaker 2: have the ability to do well.
- 2:24Speaker 1: And listen, we all know how talented they are, and
- 2:27Speaker 1: that's one of the things that they keep talking about
- 2:28Speaker 1: is you know, hey, we have so many weapons. Why
- 2:31Speaker 1: are we not showcasing them? That was kind of the message, right,
- 2:35Speaker 1: It wasn't that kind of the message from Jalen Hurts
- 2:37Speaker 1: and AJ Brown after the game is like, hey, why'd
- 2:40Speaker 1: you win?
- 2:40Speaker 2: Well?
- 2:40Speaker 1: I don't want to be uh, I don't want to
- 2:42Speaker 1: pat myself on the back, but they threw me the
- 2:44Speaker 1: damn ball, essentially, is what AJ Brown said, and Hurt's
- 2:47Speaker 1: essentially saying the same thing that that first half that
- 2:49Speaker 1: can't be who we are.
- 2:52Speaker 2: No, And that's you heard that from Hurst and you
- 2:54Speaker 2: heard it from a J. Brown, And clearly they were frustrated.
- 2:59Speaker 2: And I guess you know, I don't normally blame play
- 3:02Speaker 2: balling or play concept, play design, but if you look
- 3:05Speaker 2: at the seventeen plays between the touchdown, the score in
- 3:10Speaker 2: the first quarter and then when they finally got that
- 3:12Speaker 2: thirty eight yard er to AJ Brown that set up
- 3:15Speaker 2: the Goddard touchdown. I mean, I think Barkley was either
- 3:19Speaker 2: a ball carrier or a ball catcher on ten or
- 3:23Speaker 2: eleven of those plays. I mean they were forced feeding
- 3:26Speaker 2: the ball to say Von Barkley, and the ball in
- 3:29Speaker 2: that seventeen play span never went past ten yards in
- 3:33Speaker 2: the air for about fifteen to those seventeen so or no,
- 3:37Speaker 2: none of the steams. Sorry, they just were not making
- 3:41Speaker 2: the most use of what they have. It did feel like,
- 3:45Speaker 2: I think Jalen said this after the game, they were
- 3:47Speaker 2: sort of playing not to make a mistake instead of
- 3:50Speaker 2: playing to attack. And you can't do that when you
- 3:52Speaker 2: have as much talent as the Eagles have. I understand
- 3:56Speaker 2: that there was a history there of Barkley just exploding
- 3:59Speaker 2: against them, and maybe they were just expecting that to
- 4:02Speaker 2: happen sooner or later. But you can't just find yourself
- 4:05Speaker 2: all of a sudden in a twenty six seven hole
- 4:07Speaker 2: before you realize that maybe there's some other guys in
- 4:10Speaker 2: the field that you should be throwing with long two.
- 4:13Speaker 1: So the second half is that a different offense? I mean,
- 4:15Speaker 1: what do you make of the way they opened it
- 4:17Speaker 1: up in the second half, with the success that they
- 4:20Speaker 1: were able to have.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Well, I think a couple of things changed one and
- 4:26Speaker 2: I asked put this one on the coach's decision making.
- 4:29Speaker 2: I personally would ask Fred Johnson out there immediately when
- 4:32Speaker 2: Lane Johnson came out. Fred Johnson, you traded for, you
- 4:36Speaker 2: gave a picks because you weren't happy with your depth
- 4:39Speaker 2: on the offensive line. So why did you put Matt
- 4:42Speaker 2: Pryor out there at right tackle when you had Fred
- 4:44Speaker 2: Johnson is beyond me because I think you saw an
- 4:46Speaker 2: immediate difference after that strip sack. The next drive is
- 4:50Speaker 2: when they put Johnson in. Then that's when you saw
- 4:52Speaker 2: the thirty eight yard of the brown and then the
- 4:55Speaker 2: touchdown to Goddard. So to me, that's an unsung part
- 4:59Speaker 2: of it, small part of it to have that protection
- 5:01Speaker 2: and have that like you know, at least I don't
- 5:05Speaker 2: want to say experience that Prior's experience, but you just
- 5:07Speaker 2: had more of a safer feeling with Fred Johnson there
- 5:11Speaker 2: because Prior really got killed diverse on that play that
- 5:14Speaker 2: led to the turnover. So I think that was that
- 5:17Speaker 2: was part of it. And then the conscious decision then
- 5:22Speaker 2: on that drive for the next drive really to start
- 5:26Speaker 2: throwing the ball and stop force feeding Sae Kwon Barkley
- 5:30Speaker 2: led them to find success because A J. Brown caught
- 5:34Speaker 2: that that one handed you know, cats along the right sideline.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Jalen went deep. It was funny because it came right
- 5:40Speaker 2: after a land and it came right after a landon
- 5:42Speaker 2: Dickerson holding penalty. Hirson ran for throughout two or three
- 5:47Speaker 2: yards on second seven or eight, and then they got
- 5:50Speaker 2: negated and they're back behind the sticks and I'm sure you, Mike,
- 5:55Speaker 2: I was everybody in the land cruise already making it
- 5:57Speaker 2: clear how they felt. Figured no great second and well
- 6:00Speaker 2: hevens another dump off the state, one in the flat
- 6:03Speaker 2: or maybe a roun or something like that. And they
- 6:06Speaker 2: got a good look with AJ Brown, a nice slug
- 6:09Speaker 2: going out on the corner and he hit it and
- 6:12Speaker 2: then next thing you know, Dallas Cotter touchdown. And you know,
- 6:16Speaker 2: obviously the change was that they felt like they needn't
- 6:18Speaker 2: throwing the ball to off their people and get the
- 6:21Speaker 2: entire pass offense involved.
- 6:23Speaker 1: So what does this say about their offense?
- 6:25Speaker 2: Now?
- 6:25Speaker 1: What do we learn about the offense and what it
- 6:27Speaker 1: can be Because what we've seen the first three weeks is,
- 6:29Speaker 1: you know, you're skating by against a Dallas team that's
- 6:32Speaker 1: been shredded defensively. I mean, their defense is not good,
- 6:35Speaker 1: and you struggled to move the ball and score against
- 6:37Speaker 1: that team. Kansas City has a better defense, but obviously
- 6:41Speaker 1: you had to crawl and sclatch to score against that team.
- 6:44Speaker 1: And then yesterday, you know, obviously for the first half
- 6:47Speaker 1: you could. So what do you I know, it's small
- 6:49Speaker 1: sample sized three weeks in. What do we make of
- 6:51Speaker 1: what this Eagles offense?
- 6:52Speaker 2: Is? Great question? I wrote about this on Philly Voice.
- 6:58Speaker 2: To me, it's a shreaky offense and it's not the
- 7:03Speaker 2: same as last year because Barkley hasn't he's been featured
- 7:06Speaker 2: as much. He just hasn't had the big explosive runs.
- 7:08Speaker 2: And they finally got some explosive plays yesterday in the
- 7:11Speaker 2: second half. But I don't think the offense. For all
- 7:15Speaker 2: the talk of a new iteration of it and new
- 7:18Speaker 2: concepts that will be sprinkled in to kind of keep
- 7:22Speaker 2: it fresh, you know, they wanted to take last year's
- 7:24Speaker 2: concepts and just add a little bit to it, I
- 7:27Speaker 2: can't say I've seen anything added. In fact, even when
- 7:29Speaker 2: they were doing well, if you look at the plays,
- 7:33Speaker 2: you know that like they aid like again. The aj
- 7:35Speaker 2: Brown catch thirty eight yards, so Dallas Goddard catched thirty
- 7:38Speaker 2: three yard touchdown. Devonte Smith had a really nice sixteen
- 7:41Speaker 2: yard catch on a left side deep dig right. Those
- 7:45Speaker 2: are all plays that the Eagles typically run. I think
- 7:49Speaker 2: that they are no different than last year conceptually, and
- 7:53Speaker 2: I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I'm just saying
- 7:55Speaker 2: that that's what they said. They didn't want to be
- 7:58Speaker 2: They wanted to add new things into it. I haven't
- 8:00Speaker 2: seen anything or fresher, and I think that there's still
- 8:04Speaker 2: This doesn't mean like you know, and now all of
- 8:07Speaker 2: a sudden they're gonna come out like just gangbusters and
- 8:09Speaker 2: start throwing the ball all over the place. They did
- 8:12Speaker 2: try some throws in the first half. It didn't work.
- 8:14Speaker 2: There were a couple of plays that I saw on
- 8:16Speaker 2: tape where you know, there's there's mesh concepts whereas guys
- 8:20Speaker 2: wide open cluster the middle, doesn't throw it. So, I
- 8:23Speaker 2: mean they are what they are there. They're a team
- 8:25Speaker 2: that surprises you every one in a while because they
- 8:27Speaker 2: just start It's like once Jalen gets a little hot,
- 8:30Speaker 2: he just gets on fire and throws these throws these
- 8:33Speaker 2: balls and then but they're for the most part, going
- 8:35Speaker 2: to be that they're gonna try to run, They're gonna
- 8:37Speaker 2: try to work some play action. I just think the't
- 8:39Speaker 2: have to be less. I think the conservative label was
- 8:42Speaker 2: very fair, and they need to not be so married
- 8:46Speaker 2: to trying to for seed sa kuon Parkley as much
- 8:49Speaker 2: as they were trying to do in that game.
- 8:50Speaker 1: All right. Jeff Boscher Football at four from the Inside
- 8:52Speaker 1: the Birds podcast Inside the Birds dot com and check
- 8:55Speaker 1: out his reactions over at Philly Voice dot com. And
- 8:59Speaker 1: you know, a lot of the stuff we're talking about
- 9:01Speaker 1: is on the offensive side of the ball, but the
- 9:02Speaker 1: role that the defense played in kind of giving the
- 9:05Speaker 1: offense a chance to get back because you know, they
- 9:07Speaker 1: kept holding him to the field three field goals in
- 9:10Speaker 1: the first half. And that was the one thing I
- 9:11Speaker 1: observed at halftime was, you know, I'm sitting there watching
- 9:13Speaker 1: the game with me and my dad his law partner anywhere,
- 9:16Speaker 1: sitting there and he's saying the defense hasn't been very good,
- 9:19Speaker 1: and I'm like, well, they're kind of giving you a
- 9:21Speaker 1: shot to stay in the game here. They kept it
- 9:24Speaker 1: within reach. But I guess you just never felt the offense,
- 9:26Speaker 1: but the defense really changed in the second half.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it. And I would amend to your statement
- 9:33Speaker 2: a little bit to say that. And this is kind
- 9:36Speaker 2: of sources putty hairs, right. I don't know if it
- 9:38Speaker 2: was the defense with seeing them in the game or
- 9:41Speaker 2: it was just Matthew Stafford keeping the Eagles in the game,
- 9:43Speaker 2: because I thought he missed at least five or six throws. Yep,
- 9:47Speaker 2: there there was no pressure, but I will say maybe
- 9:52Speaker 2: the perception of pressure forced his clock to be sped
- 9:57Speaker 2: up a little bit. And if that's the case, then
- 9:59Speaker 2: you know, you credit the Eagle because if you can
- 10:00Speaker 2: win the intimidation game that to win, that speaks to
- 10:04Speaker 2: your talent level and what you got. And you know,
- 10:07Speaker 2: he faced them a couple of times now and he's
- 10:08Speaker 2: thinking some hits and you know, you know in both
- 10:11Speaker 2: games last year and this year he didn't take as
- 10:14Speaker 2: many hits. But again that's because I thought he was
- 10:17Speaker 2: sort of hurrying a bunch of his throws. I there
- 10:19Speaker 2: were like five or six pros, and I circled in
- 10:22Speaker 2: my notebook the game. I'm like, that's pro that Matthew
- 10:25Speaker 2: Stafford usually makes. And so he left points on the board.
- 10:28Speaker 2: He said it after the game too. He completely acknowledged
- 10:31Speaker 2: that he left points on the boards.
- 10:32Speaker 1: No, that's right. I mean he definitely left some points
- 10:34Speaker 1: out there and missed some throws and you know, the
- 10:38Speaker 1: stuff that the Eagles did capitalize on. But the fact
- 10:40Speaker 1: that they held him to the three field goals in
- 10:44Speaker 1: the first half, that was an underrated part of this
- 10:46Speaker 1: whole thing is because if they scored more points in
- 10:49Speaker 1: that first half, you're not able to you know, you
- 10:50Speaker 1: would have ran out of time had they converted some
- 10:53Speaker 1: of those. And I also thought the big play in
- 10:54Speaker 1: the game that was interesting was fourth and two block
- 11:00Speaker 1: the field goal. The fact that they even attempt at
- 11:04Speaker 1: the field goal there because it still made it only
- 11:06Speaker 1: a one score game even if they make the field goal.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Yep, yep, that was huge. I thought, I agree with
- 11:13Speaker 2: you on that. I also thought two Jordan Davis plays
- 11:16Speaker 2: that were not field goal blocks are pretty huge. The
- 11:19Speaker 2: third and two two we chased down Matthew Stafford, and
- 11:22Speaker 2: of course the fourth and one on Tyram Williams. I mean,
- 11:25Speaker 2: he had four plays if you take well, I guess
- 11:28Speaker 2: really Jill and Carter gets credited.
- 11:30Speaker 1: The fourth and gets lost in the sauce because you
- 11:33Speaker 1: go four and out.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Right right, but it still it kept them from scoring.
- 11:37Speaker 2: You saw how quickly on their last drive that they
- 11:40Speaker 2: moved down the field and we were able to get
- 11:42Speaker 2: in field goal positions. So I just thought Jordan Davis
- 11:45Speaker 2: single handled the almost you know, when that came for them.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Like it's a complete transformation for him too, by the way,
- 11:54Speaker 1: and that before you were always talking about him being
- 11:57Speaker 1: somewhat of a disappointment and are they be happy with
- 12:01Speaker 1: the role that they have with him? And now here's
- 12:03Speaker 1: the guy who, by the way, correct me if I'm wrong.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Is he a free agent at the end of the
- 12:07Speaker 1: year or is he you know, the fifth year option
- 12:09Speaker 1: they picked up, But he's a free agent at the
- 12:11Speaker 1: end of the year, right, He.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Is not a free engine at the end of the year.
- 12:15Speaker 2: He because they picked up his fifty year option. This
- 12:17Speaker 2: is this year four for him.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Okay, so they picked up the fifth year option so
- 12:21Speaker 1: that he's here again next year, gotcha? But yeah, he
- 12:24Speaker 1: played obviously.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I was gonna say he's also on a on
- 12:27Speaker 2: a better price and more of a discount on the
- 12:30Speaker 2: fifth year option because he's like a Tier two fifty
- 12:33Speaker 2: year option. Forget what year that this started. But you know,
- 12:36Speaker 2: the fifth year option is different for based on what
- 12:39Speaker 2: you are accomplished. So I think if he was like
- 12:41Speaker 2: a four time pro bowler, it would be a lot
- 12:44Speaker 2: more expensive.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Speaking of four time pro bowler, he's not quite there yet.
- 12:47Speaker 1: But Zach Bond was all over the place. I mean
- 12:51Speaker 1: that got lost in the sauce about what he did.
- 12:53Speaker 1: I mean had the interception early in the game, but
- 12:55Speaker 1: he was all over the place in that first half.
- 12:58Speaker 1: He was like a one man wrecking early in that
- 13:00Speaker 1: first half of the game that you know, that gets
- 13:03Speaker 1: lost to the sauce because of what ended up happening
- 13:05Speaker 1: in the game.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Man, tell me about him, because yesterday's game is what
- 13:09Speaker 2: sports writers like to call the control all delete games
- 13:13Speaker 2: where have like eighty percent of what you're written ready
- 13:16Speaker 2: to go so that you can file it right before uh,
- 13:19Speaker 2: right at the right as a time expired. Man, my
- 13:21Speaker 2: score is ready. But the way that game went, I
- 13:23Speaker 2: kept hitting control. I wrote up a big thing at
- 13:27Speaker 2: the end of the first quarter, before the game was
- 13:29Speaker 2: you know, out of reach or anything where I was gonna,
- 13:31Speaker 2: you know, write a couple of paragraphs about and Zack
- 13:33Speaker 2: Pawn and the idea that I think you know, I
- 13:35Speaker 2: think some people are waiting for him to like kind
- 13:38Speaker 2: of come back to earth or the coach to turn
- 13:41Speaker 2: back into a pumpkin for him because of his success
- 13:45Speaker 2: was just so fast and unexpected. But each week it's like,
- 13:49Speaker 2: you just see these great plays that he makes and
- 13:51Speaker 2: the consistency. Now, I mean, he's got to he's gotta
- 13:55Speaker 2: were part of the letdown in the run defense, which
- 13:57Speaker 2: I have to spend you a little bit more on
- 13:59Speaker 2: tape and see what happened there. But overall, he's been
- 14:02Speaker 2: playing at a fantastic level.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Yeah, he was awesome yesterday. Man, there's so many things
- 14:07Speaker 1: in this game. The special team's aspect of it too,
- 14:10Speaker 1: you know, these messy kicks, and that was a big
- 14:13Speaker 1: factor in the game because one of the problems the
- 14:15Speaker 1: Eagles offense had was they kept having terrible field position.
- 14:19Speaker 2: They did, and that's part of that sort of I
- 14:22Speaker 2: think conservative approach that they were taking. You know, like, man,
- 14:27Speaker 2: everybody hates seeing when you run the ball on third
- 14:29Speaker 2: and seventeen or third and fifteen, but that's kind of
- 14:31Speaker 2: what you do in those situations when you're backed up
- 14:34Speaker 2: in your own end zone because of bad field position,
- 14:37Speaker 2: you're just trying to get out of there, and you
- 14:40Speaker 2: know they were trying to get Parkley to get him
- 14:42Speaker 2: like a even if it wasn't one of the big runs.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Just give me like a twelve to fifteen yard or
- 14:46Speaker 2: sequon right and let me get closer to the middle
- 14:49Speaker 2: field where I can then get my receivers out and comfortable.
- 14:52Speaker 2: They seem very uncomfortable being backed up in their own
- 14:56Speaker 2: end zone and not wanting to make the same mistake
- 14:58Speaker 2: I guess similar to the way Matthew Stafford made on
- 15:01Speaker 2: his opening possession, but it certainly changed the way they
- 15:04Speaker 2: went about their business. Now. The kickoffs, right, so the
- 15:11Speaker 2: kicker for the Rams is one of these kickers. You know,
- 15:14Speaker 2: there's the whole kickoff format to do with the dynamic kick.
- 15:17Speaker 2: So kickers have been trying to do this thing called
- 15:19Speaker 2: a knuckleball kick where they kick with less spin and
- 15:23Speaker 2: so it's kind of floats, right. It's like trying to
- 15:26Speaker 2: hit a change up and this time you're trying to
- 15:29Speaker 2: catch a ball that's not spinning the way you normally spin.
- 15:32Speaker 2: So I can understand one mishap, right until you're like, oh,
- 15:37Speaker 2: because you can't practice again sit unless your kicker does it.
- 15:40Speaker 2: But five is just rap. I mean that is ridiculous.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Those guys should be embarrassed by how bad they were
- 15:46Speaker 2: and how detrimental to the offensive field position they put
- 15:50Speaker 2: their team in. I mean, it's this is not rocket science.
- 15:53Speaker 2: I know I've never been there and been out there
- 15:55Speaker 2: and done it, but I guarantee you the coaches are
- 15:57Speaker 2: saying the same thing that I'm like, come on, like
- 16:00Speaker 2: one or two, you know, blips. But five, that's a
- 16:03Speaker 2: little ridiculous.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Yeah, it was perplexing of what was going on yesterday,
- 16:07Speaker 1: and a lot of the kicks were I mean, Bigsby
- 16:10Speaker 1: had a problem, Metchi had two problems. I mean it
- 16:13Speaker 1: was every kick they could not feel cleanly and that
- 16:15Speaker 1: kept putting them behind the eight ball there. You know
- 16:18Speaker 1: there was man, there's like all these things just start
- 16:20Speaker 1: keep coming back to you. The one handed catch he
- 16:23Speaker 1: talked about by AJ, but the other one on third
- 16:25Speaker 1: down where he catches the wall one on one and
- 16:28Speaker 1: then he just shoves his way through the defender there.
- 16:32Speaker 1: I mean, I guess one of the questions I have
- 16:34Speaker 1: moving forward. You saw what AJ did and DeVante you know,
- 16:37Speaker 1: kind of had his game where he just you know,
- 16:39Speaker 1: the safety valve sometimes sure handed, although we did have
- 16:41Speaker 1: a drop that he probably should have caught. Is there
- 16:44Speaker 1: any concern about Barkley and and trying to get him
- 16:48Speaker 1: going in the role that he'll have in this offense,
- 16:51Speaker 1: or do you start to shift to a more brown
- 16:54Speaker 1: Smith centric offense.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Well, that was something I didn't have to delete from
- 17:00Speaker 2: my Philly Voice observation story. He's still up there on
- 17:03Speaker 2: Philly Voice dot com. Is that I feel like watching
- 17:07Speaker 2: Saquon a little bit yesterday, especially in the second half,
- 17:10Speaker 2: that maybe he's pressing a little bit because I thought
- 17:13Speaker 2: he was not always following the blocks. I thought that
- 17:16Speaker 2: he was trying to maneuver his way a little bad time,
- 17:19Speaker 2: And I feel like he's running like a little bit,
- 17:21Speaker 2: like he's getting frustrated, which is understandable because he's you know,
- 17:25Speaker 2: Takuon Barkley had this great year vote a number one player,
- 17:29Speaker 2: and he really has been and okay, he's not been bad.
- 17:32Speaker 2: He's just been well yesterday with bad, but he's been
- 17:34Speaker 2: the pedestrian running back so far, and that's not Tai Kwon.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Barkway's clearly defenses were doing some things as a line
- 17:41Speaker 2: of scrimmage. A lot of athletic movement, line games, twist stunts,
- 17:44Speaker 2: just trying to make sure that they can get off
- 17:46Speaker 2: blocks a little easier, and then if he does get
- 17:48Speaker 2: past the first line, that they can still chase him down.
- 17:51Speaker 2: And they're doing some good things. And you're right because
- 17:54Speaker 2: of that, theoretically you should be able to open up
- 17:57Speaker 2: the offense a little more. But the Eagles are also
- 17:59Speaker 2: seeing ton like of two deep coverages, like cover two,
- 18:03Speaker 2: inverted cover two, you know, defensive designed to really like
- 18:07Speaker 2: keep the stuff in front of you. So I don't
- 18:10Speaker 2: know that the Saque Barkley struggles right now are going
- 18:13Speaker 2: to make them just all of a sudden be able
- 18:14Speaker 2: to throw the ball over the top a lot. But
- 18:16Speaker 2: I think there is a lot of space in the
- 18:18Speaker 2: middle of the field. And I just want to make
- 18:20Speaker 2: this clear because sometimes we talk about Hurts's reluctance to
- 18:24Speaker 2: throw the ball in the middle of the field. His
- 18:26Speaker 2: reluctance is to throw the ball into tight windows. But
- 18:29Speaker 2: there were some really good opportunities yesterday, whether it was
- 18:32Speaker 2: a one on one or it's like a deep gig
- 18:34Speaker 2: to DeVante or meshroouts. So there are guys who are
- 18:37Speaker 2: open in the middle of the field that he's more
- 18:41Speaker 2: than happy with throwing the ball to as long as
- 18:43Speaker 2: he sees it. Sometimes he misses it, but when he
- 18:46Speaker 2: sees it he will pull the trigger.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Well, the touchdown to Goddard, I mean thirty three already
- 18:49Speaker 1: ripped it down the middle of the field wide open.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Certainly good example really, and then you know the sixteen
- 18:56Speaker 2: yard of Devonte on third down was a good one.
- 18:59Speaker 2: The one you'd mentioned that Aj dropped right. That was
- 19:03Speaker 2: an under center play action, which is very rare that
- 19:05Speaker 2: egals go under center and then run play action pass
- 19:08Speaker 2: off of it. I thought that after watching it, that
- 19:11Speaker 2: hurts just in the thorne a tick earlier because he
- 19:13Speaker 2: allowed Quinton Lake to kind of close quickly and then
- 19:17Speaker 2: hit Aj as Aj was trying to catch it. Now,
- 19:19Speaker 2: still a ball AJ normally catches, but throwing a little
- 19:22Speaker 2: bit earlier, I think he has a chance to maybe
- 19:24Speaker 2: even wiggle out before and Lake can hit him.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Last thing I want to ask pass rush Hunt Smith,
- 19:32Speaker 1: Zidarius Zarias Smith, Nolan Smith, the pass rush, what did
- 19:37Speaker 1: you think you know about their ability to pray? You
- 19:40Speaker 1: mentioned that Stafford missed some throws with the perception of
- 19:44Speaker 1: a pass rush, but was there enough pass rush.
- 19:48Speaker 2: It's I think the easy answer right now is no,
- 19:51Speaker 2: there was not. And I'm not saying that's an incorrect assessment,
- 19:54Speaker 2: but what I am saying I'll have to go back
- 19:56Speaker 2: and look. But if you were to say what's the
- 19:59Speaker 2: best thing about the Rams offense yesterday, you would say
- 20:01Speaker 2: it's what protected well, I mean more more so, how
- 20:07Speaker 2: they moved the chains. They ran the ball extremely well.
- 20:10Speaker 1: I was gonna and they and they ran the ball well.
- 20:11Speaker 1: We talked about this earlier. Quorum average almost seven yards
- 20:15Speaker 1: to carry on. You know, Williams had a good game
- 20:17Speaker 1: as well. They just kept getting chunks the yards.
- 20:20Speaker 2: You know what's cool. I wrote last week a story
- 20:22Speaker 2: on Philly Voyce. I'm really plugging my stuff today, but
- 20:25Speaker 2: I do a weekly column called Know Your Enemy and
- 20:28Speaker 2: uh a little Regigo's Machine reference. But it's a it's
- 20:31Speaker 2: a little it's a story about what to watch for
- 20:33Speaker 2: the other team that's not obvious. And I wrote a
- 20:35Speaker 2: whole thing about how Blake Orham has started to slowly
- 20:38Speaker 2: get integrated into the Rams offense. And I showed a
- 20:41Speaker 2: few plays where they use him, and he's got a
- 20:44Speaker 2: little bit more explosion. I think like a little bit
- 20:46Speaker 2: more juice than Hian Williams. They're both like neither of
- 20:49Speaker 2: them are both high class athletes, are world class athletes.
- 20:51Speaker 2: But so when I see that happen and you know,
- 20:54Speaker 2: you saw him break off some good runs and like, yeah,
- 20:56Speaker 2: it felt validated. But my point of my point of
- 20:59Speaker 2: bring that up was you have to be in a
- 21:02Speaker 2: pass rush situation for your pass rushers to really go
- 21:05Speaker 2: to work. And the way the rams are moving the
- 21:08Speaker 2: ball on the ground, they didn't, I don't. I have
- 21:10Speaker 2: to go look. I don't know how many third and
- 21:12Speaker 2: like five and longer that they faced throughout the game,
- 21:16Speaker 2: and when when they did, I do think it was
- 21:20Speaker 2: more Stafford missing than Zadarius Smith or jailex Count or
- 21:24Speaker 2: anybody else really putting pressure on him. So to your yeah,
- 21:27Speaker 2: I mean, I don't think the pass rush was great,
- 21:28Speaker 2: but I really think it's also harder when a team
- 21:30Speaker 2: is running the ball down your throat that way to
- 21:32Speaker 2: really be going to you off on a quarterback.
- 21:35Speaker 1: All right, good stuff, by the way, Rage against the Machine.
- 21:37Speaker 1: I made a Rage against the Machine reference on my
- 21:39Speaker 1: Instagram Friday night. I had a beer called East of
- 21:42Speaker 1: the Sun and the music I used for it was
- 21:46Speaker 1: People of the Sun. Like all right, Jeff Boscher is
- 21:54Speaker 1: back on Wednesday. We'll do a motioner mail bag with
- 21:57Speaker 1: him on Wednesday as well, So get your questions in
- 22:01Speaker 1: on the textboard at Mike Gill Show, Jeff Boscher from
- 22:04Speaker 1: Philly Voice, and Inside the Birds dot com. The Inside
- 22:07Speaker 1: of the Birds podcast is out on all podcasting platforms,
- 22:11Speaker 1: recapping the Eagles win over the Rams, a wild game
- 22:17Speaker 1: that people will be remembering by the way you talked
- 22:20Speaker 1: about the miracle at the Meadowlands earlier. They had the
- 22:23Speaker 1: same uniform combination white jerseys.
- 22:26Speaker 2: Oh we have green pants. Well maybe they should not
- 22:30Speaker 2: wear that anymore, just to save everybody. The adjita I'm sussing.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Their winning record and the other uniforms is pretty good too,
- 22:38Speaker 2: and without all the drama.
- 22:40Speaker 1: The last time, yes, they wore like fifteen years ago,
- 22:43Speaker 1: is the last time they wore that combination. All right,
- 22:45Speaker 1: moch we'll talk to you Wednesday.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Man, all right, man, thank you,
