- 0:39It's a mix of stories of how we navigate our lives and maybe
- 0:42some questionable advice. Some days we're wise, other days
- 0:45we're just trying to remember where the heck we left our
- 0:47phone. So join us as we laugh, groan,
- 0:49and maybe even learn a little something about surviving in the

- 1:07One more thing. Hey, I'm Rob.
- 1:09What's up guys? We are so excited to have you
- 1:12here today. Thanks for tuning in.
- 1:14Now, if you're like us, you might have found that middle age
- 1:16has a way of. Sneaking up on you?
- 1:18Oh yeah. Yep, suddenly things aren't as
- 1:20easy as they used to be, right? Oh.
- 1:21Absolutely. Did you know that old age makes
- 1:25great makes us great multitaskers?
- 1:27Does it? Yeah, I can.
- 1:28Sneeze and pee at the same time. I know it's the pits.
- 1:33It's the pits. You wake up 1 morning and your
- 1:35body's making noises that you didn't even know were possible
- 1:38and your energy is well, let's just say it's not what it used
- 1:42to be. And let's not even talk about
- 1:46trying to juggle everything. You've got to do it on your
- 1:48plate for the day. Work, family, staying fit.
- 1:51What's that? Wait, what?
- 1:52What? And then still trying to find
- 1:54time to get it to enjoy life. Yeah, it's like you're in this
- 1:56weird limbo, like, between feeling like you've got your
- 1:59life together but also feeling like you, you're getting hit
- 2:01with 1000 little things at once. But hey, that's kind of why
- 2:04we're here, right? Right.
- 2:05Got a whole bunch of life hacks for you.
- 2:07Oh, good. Yeah.
- 2:08Stuff that'll help you streamline your day, boost your
- 2:10energy, maybe make you feel a little smarter and honestly,
- 2:14just make life a little less, well, overwhelming.
- 2:17Oh my. Gosh, did you hear that?
- 2:22I love that song. But Right.
- 2:24Right. So whether you're looking for
- 2:27ways to be more proactive so you can squeeze in that work out of
- 2:30the gym, not me, or just try to be a little smarter, today's
- 2:34episode is all about those practical tips that can really
- 2:38make a difference. Yeah.
- 2:40Goal for you is to get you on me, get you into the gym or, or
- 2:43walking or. Yes, let's make that a goal.
- 2:45Or next time we're recording, we're going to after we're done,
- 2:47we're going to play some VR boxing.
- 2:49No, we should do the next one while we're walking.
- 2:51We should. Oh, I'm sorry I brought that up.
- 2:54Yeah, sorry. All right, so let's be real.
- 2:58It's not just about surviving middle age.
- 2:59It's about thriving in your middle age.
- 3:01Right, Right. Right.
- 3:02So we got plenty of tricks up our sleeves to help you feel a
- 3:04little smarter, more focused, and dare I say it, a little more
- 3:09youthful. And I will laugh at Brian.
- 3:11I mean, hey, we'll, we'll throw in a few laughs because why not?
- 3:16Why not? So grab a coffee or whatever
- 3:18your go to drink is and let's get into it.
- 3:21Time to make life a whole lot easier and a little more fun.
- 3:25Ready to life hack my friend? Let's hack away.
- 3:28All right #1 when you go park your car, take a photo of where
- 3:33you park at the mall, in a parking ramp, or on the street.
- 3:36That way, when you're ready to leave from whatever event you're
- 3:38at, you can easily find quickly and easily find your car.
- 3:42This might make you look like a here with your friends or date
- 3:44or whoever it is, and can also make you feel safe, you know,
- 3:46from wandering around aimlessly. Do you do that?
- 3:50You know, I wander around aimlessly.
- 3:51I. I, I haven't gotten quite to
- 3:55that point. I mean, unless we're sometimes
- 3:57you go to like if you go to like a sporting event or a concert
- 4:01and some place you haven't been before, then yes, then I can get
- 4:05a little confused where we're at.
- 4:07But a lot of places we go to, especially around here, I've
- 4:09been to multiple. So I have a general idea kind of
- 4:12where we're at. Yeah, we're.
- 4:13Parking, I always do that when we're in a parking ramp.
- 4:15We take a picture of the level we're on, right?
- 4:18And I never actually have to use it, right, Which thankfully my
- 4:21memory is still there. But always do it.
- 4:23Always take a picture or jot on a note.
- 4:26Yeah. Because especially going to the
- 4:27airport, you come back, you know, I don't know that I'm
- 4:29going to remember where my car is always due.
- 4:31Yeah, which is great, right? But there's that time you're
- 4:34like, oh, Frick, is it on orange level or is it green level or is
- 4:37it purple? I don't know where it is.
- 4:39Yeah, see. And most of the phones not you
- 4:40can track where you park like put a little, put a pin there,
- 4:43but it doesn't put the level so. Like so you'll show me how to
- 4:47put a pin where I park because. That sounds like an iPhone thing
- 4:50that. Sounds like I'm not surviving
- 4:52technology, right. Have you ever been to the
- 4:56doctor's office and they say, hey, what are all the
- 4:59medications you're taking? And you sit there and look at
- 5:02them like a fool because you're like, yeah, I take medications,
- 5:06but I don't remember what they are.
- 5:07Or you forget half of them and yeah, yeah, been there.
- 5:10So, well, Life act #2 take a photo of the list of medications
- 5:15or vitamins that you're taking on a regular basis.
- 5:18So when it comes comes in handy if you have to go to the
- 5:20emergency room or if you go to the doctor's office, and
- 5:24especially if you're there with your parents and they need to
- 5:27know what your your parents are taking.
- 5:29You've got a photo or a list on your phone and you can easily
- 5:33say what they are. Yeah, I see.
- 5:34I think that's a great idea for Speaking of our parents is our
- 5:38parents are all starting to get to that age where there's more
- 5:40doctors visits in their lives. It's just natural progression of
- 5:43life. And sometimes if you go with
- 5:45them, the doctors will kind of maybe look towards you and ask
- 5:48what's going on, what are they taking?
- 5:49And you're like. And you have to remember all
- 5:51this stuff. Yeah.
- 5:52So I keep a list in my notes on my phone of all the the meds and
- 5:56vitamins I take because they want to know every single time I
- 5:58go to the doctor. Right.
- 5:59You know, are you still taking this?
- 6:01And how many milligrams you're taking?
- 6:02Well, really, I don't know. I don't know.
- 6:04So I pull up my phone. Here's my whole list.
- 6:06Don't. Potentially get them and say
- 6:08isn't that your job? They want to confirm that their
- 6:11notes are still correct, so and I do it for my mom's medications
- 6:15too. Do you I do in your phone?
- 6:17Do you have the ice thing in your phone?
- 6:20Ice. You have no idea what I'm.
- 6:22Talking Noah. First of all, look at me do do I
- 6:26know what half the things come out of your mouth are?
- 6:29True, that's true. You're in case of emergency
- 6:32contacts. So when you're when you're yes,
- 6:35when you're out doing your exercise for the first time in
- 6:37how many years and you suddenly keel over and lay on the side of
- 6:39the road with your phone in your hand because you're listening to
- 6:41our podcast, somebody can grab your phone and look for your ice
- 6:44contact. Way to tie that back to the
- 6:47podcast. I really like that.
- 6:49That was great. OK, then what do they do?
- 6:51They hold the phone towards my face, open my eyes up to get the
- 6:54phone to open. Like, like in like in every high
- 6:57school you've ever seen, right? Exactly but.
- 7:01But no, seriously, do you have an ICE contact in your phone?
- 7:04No, I don't either. Oh, OK.
- 7:06Well, at least you don't because like, now I can.
- 7:09We can do it together. Right.
- 7:10But that's probably not a bad idea.
- 7:12But then again, like to your point, like what?
- 7:15My, my, my phone does have a face unlock to you, But but what
- 7:18if you don't have that set up? Somebody can't get into your
- 7:20phone like it, What's the point? Right, right.
- 7:23Like how does it work? Then and you and it doesn't
- 7:25recognize your face if your eyes are closed, right?
- 7:27Or so it used to be your fingerprint.
- 7:29Yeah. And now, well, iPhones now are
- 7:30different. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:33I don't know. Yeah, my, my guess we're.
- 7:34Able to figure. That out myself fingerprint on
- 7:36the screen so somebody could take my you know dead thumb and
- 7:39put it on there but. Well, can't be too dead 'cause
- 7:42it does. It does measure the heat level
- 7:45of your body. My my recently dead home so we
- 7:50have been laid in the ditch. As long, yeah.
- 7:53As long as rigor mortis hasn't said it exactly Exactly alright.
- 7:57All right #3 so greedy. Get rid of your Turkey necking
- 8:00photos. What I know, right Photographers
- 8:04recommend that you stick your neck out and tuck your chin down
- 8:06so. That doesn't.
- 8:08Work well, OK, I so I have a Side Story.
- 8:10Let me get let me get through this list here.
- 8:11But I do have a Side Story that does work and I do have visual
- 8:14proof. So here's what the Google
- 8:16Machine says during the photo shoot.
- 8:19You want to elongate your neck, so push your chin slightly
- 8:21forward and down. OK, I'm doing it.
- 8:23OK, you're doing it and you look like a tool and.
- 8:27Just because I look like the tool, does that mean I am a
- 8:30tool? So asshole, put your chin, put
- 8:34your chin forward and down, and as as you're lifting your chin
- 8:38up you can make your neck look and appear shorter and create a
- 8:41double chin. That doesn't make sense.
- 8:45Create a double chin as lifting your chin up can.
- 8:48Reduces the reduces. I think you should say that over
- 8:52because I don't think our listeners got that I should.
- 8:54Read all the words. OK so during the photo shoot you
- 8:56should elongate your neck, push your chin slightly forward and
- 8:59down as lifting your chin up can make the neck appear shorter and
- 9:03create a double chin. See it?
- 9:05Create a double chin. That does not make sense.
- 9:07You don't want to create the double chin.
- 9:09I think Google is wrong. OK, I'm with it.
- 9:12You know, I did cure it this copy, so maybe I typed it.
- 9:15That's OK. #2 Tilt your head. Tilt your head slightly to one
- 9:19side, which can help elongate the neck and create a more
- 9:21flighting angle. Have a story on that too?
- 9:24Good. Posture.
- 9:25Stand tall. That's not me.
- 9:27I know I Crouch all the time, stand tall and maintain good
- 9:30posture to naturally elongate the neck and improve overall
- 9:32appearance and turn your body. If possible, turn your body
- 9:35slightly to the side, which can help create a more flattering
- 9:39angle and reduce the appearance of a double chin.
- 9:41OK. I have a few stories on this.
- 9:44OK, good. So my wife had to get work
- 9:47pictures done at a meeting. She was out a couple of months
- 9:50ago and then a professional photographer.
- 9:52And she goes in there and the guy says, OK, So what I want you
- 9:55to do is I'm kind of stand up and then stick your gut out as
- 9:59far as you can and then put your shoulders back as far as you can
- 10:03and then lean your head forward. So it's like the most awkwardest
- 10:06looking thing. She's awkward, right?
- 10:08She's like, you got to be kidding me, right?
- 10:11So she does what he says, take the photos and photos come back.
- 10:13She sends me a copy. She's in Dallas.
- 10:15I'm here in Minneapolis. She has my picture.
- 10:16I'm like honey, that is like the best work picture.
- 10:19It's beautiful. It's a beautiful photo.
- 10:21And you've seen it, right? I've seen it, yeah.
- 10:22Yeah, it's like, amazing. And it's, I mean, she's
- 10:25beautiful anyway, but it's like, Oh my God, like that's a work
- 10:28photo. What the hell happened?
- 10:30If we get permission from her, we'll put it on the on Facebook,
- 10:33but if it doesn't show up, it'll.
- 10:35Show up, don't blame us. But no, I mean, it's
- 10:38unbelievable. So I mean, yes, she felt and
- 10:40looked awkward as heck, but the way he took the picture from the
- 10:43middle of your chest up, it looks phenomenal.
- 10:45It looked really good. It looks really good.
- 10:47You mean I, I read these that those let lists, I'm like, what?
- 10:51Yeah. How do you do that?
- 10:53Yeah, yeah. So yeah.
- 10:54So no, I've never done it. I've never done it either, but
- 10:56he talked her through it and it looked.
- 10:57Great, I just look like a schmuck in pictures.
- 11:00So, and the tilt your head thing.
- 11:03So I've been accused of this my entire life.
- 11:05Any time a camera comes out, I instantly go like the whole, the
- 11:09whole Peanuts character. They tilt their heads back and
- 11:11forth. Yeah, that's me.
- 11:14It's like you're going to do a selfie or something, like you
- 11:16tilt your head. Right.
- 11:17It's I see a camera, my head just tilt.
- 11:19It's I I don't know why. Well, my wife is is always
- 11:22telling me to tilt into when you do a Group A shot of us
- 11:27together. So typically I I try to do the
- 11:29whole stand up straight in my head up a little bit and she
- 11:33also tilt into her so that we our heads get closer together.
- 11:37Oh, gotcha. Gotcha.
- 11:38So you're doing the the meeting at a point head?
- 11:40Yeah, yeah. Gotcha.
- 11:41And it looks nice and, and I don't have anything against it,
- 11:44right? It's just not my first thought
- 11:45to tilt it. Yeah, I would agree.
- 11:47I would agree. So hack #4 use a hanging shoe
- 11:53rack to store cleaning supplies inside of the pantry or closet
- 11:58so it eliminates having to crawl under the sink to find the ones
- 12:00you use most frequently. So I like that idea.
- 12:04Can you do it with Tupperware? Interesting.
- 12:07I would think so. So not a hack I've used.
- 12:12Okay, so all of our clauses have these shoe racks.
- 12:14Yes, they do in our house, but they're all full of shoes,
- 12:18right? Because, you know, all the shoes
- 12:20live with women and they have a lot of shoes and like, my shoes
- 12:24are in the garage. But I would think that would be
- 12:27kind of a good idea. Yeah, yeah, I see that.
- 12:29Yeah, I see that. We in our in our kitchen, we had
- 12:32the Tupperware kerfuffle for years where, you know, the lids
- 12:34are a match and things get thrown in there.
- 12:36People get tired of them. We bought these at Home Depot
- 12:39and they were really not expensive at all.
- 12:41Just pull out drawers. You basically go into your
- 12:43shelf. Oh yeah, I want those.
- 12:44Oh, they're awesome. And then they also had a little
- 12:47thing like a little metal rack that holds the lid.
- 12:49Like you put the dividers in them.
- 12:51OK, all your lids are on the left side.
- 12:53They're all standing up and then on the right side is everything
- 12:56stacked. So we did a little bit like
- 12:58that. We kind of cleaned out the old
- 13:00Tupperware pieces and all the non matching pieces and we
- 13:03bought all the glass with the snap lid tops.
- 13:06And now I just snap on a lid on every single container and we
- 13:09stack them in like size so all the lid is with the container
- 13:14and it's already stacked nice neatly.
- 13:16But the biggest problem is I have to get down to the floor to
- 13:19get them. And if you get the pull out.
- 13:21Drawers. Then I maybe could just a.
- 13:23Lot easier. Slightly bend down.
- 13:25OK, so when we're done here, I'll go upstairs.
- 13:27I'll show you that. That's awesome.
- 13:28OK. Yeah, we like those.
- 13:29Pull out drawers. Pull.
- 13:30Out drawers, pull out drawers #5 can't hear the alarm clock?
- 13:34Well, it's because you're old and your hearing sucks.
- 13:35But set your alarm on your smartphone and put it in an
- 13:39empty glass near your bed, because I will amplify the
- 13:42sound. OK, so I've heard this hack
- 13:44before, but not for an alarm to wake up.
- 13:47OK, But it's like if you are at the beach or you're at, you
- 13:52know, like the cabin or you're on the boat or something like
- 13:54that to put it in a cup to play your music and it makes it like
- 13:58a a little pseudo speaker. Oh, sure, I can see that.
- 14:02I can see that, yeah. I've done that before at home if
- 14:05we didn't have a speaker near us or anything like that, but I've
- 14:08never done it for the alarm. Yeah, I don't.
- 14:10I personally don't have much of an alarm problem.
- 14:12Well, a couple things. I think we discussed this in an
- 14:16earlier episode. I'm a little bit of a light
- 14:18sleeper. I have I sleep with white noise
- 14:20now. Yeah, I don't know how you can
- 14:22sleep with white noise I. Used to be the same way.
- 14:24I'm telling you, I just once you get used to it, it's like you
- 14:26can't sleep without it, see. The ringing in my ears is
- 14:29already my white noise. I.
- 14:30Understand that, but if you can maybe get a different noise
- 14:32that's not ringing, maybe more of a dull draw like a ball the
- 14:40high. Pitch rigging was that.
- 14:42Oh, that yoga. But yeah but the alarm has never
- 14:47been an issue for me. But I also wear my watch to
- 14:49sleep. You do.
- 14:51I do because it, well, it tracks my sleep, which I'm like that
- 14:54kind of. Stuff.
- 14:55Oh yeah 'cause the rim browsing cause aura ring.
- 14:56The aura ring, right? Yeah, but so my alarm on my
- 14:59phone goes off, my watch will also vibrate.
- 15:02So I back up and then after like 30 seconds both my phone and my
- 15:05watch start making noises. So the vibration, the vibration
- 15:08of my watch doesn't wake me up. If it thinks you're dead, thinks
- 15:11I'm dead. Then I hear my phone is also
- 15:13making noise and my watch is making noise, so that's coming
- 15:15from all angles so. And so you sleep to the point
- 15:18where that's make that has to wake you up.
- 15:20No, honestly, nine times out of 10 I'm awake 5 minutes before my
- 15:22alarm because my internal. Right, that's what I was going
- 15:25to say. Is just is just wacky.
- 15:27That's what I was going to say because at our age, we're so
- 15:29used to getting up and I get up at 6:15 every day.
- 15:32That's so late. I thought that was early 5.
- 15:352525. Well, you have to drive.
- 15:37I have to drive. I walk.
- 15:39So I get up at 6:15 and every single day, I don't know why I
- 15:43even set the alarm. 6:10 Yeah. Never fails, never fails.
- 15:47And the worst part is even on the weekends.
- 15:49Even on the weekends. Horrible.
- 15:51We're going to sleep in tomorrow.
- 15:52We're up till midnight. We're going to sleep in and.
- 15:54Sleeping in is 630, maybe 6:45. Yeah, yeah, it's.
- 15:58But no, not after that. So yeah, I don't know.
- 16:01And I I'm also, like you said, a light sleeper.
- 16:05So my alarm clock is set to be on the quietest setting, OK.
- 16:12And it starts to play a little, little music, and I hear the
- 16:15very first note. I get up, I turn it off right,
- 16:19and I sit up. Yeah.
- 16:20I've never used the snooze. Never.
- 16:22I just don't understand the point of the snooze.
- 16:25Oh. Don't even get me started on the
- 16:26snooze. Oh my gosh.
- 16:27Do you do you use? I do not.
- 16:30The person I share a bed with does use the snooze.
- 16:33Oh, Rob's wife. Yes, which is which is fine.
- 16:38I mean, she she only snoozes once when she gets up.
- 16:39It's fine. But but the people who yeah, who
- 16:42are constant snoozers, I don't know how you do it.
- 16:43Just just get out of. Just get up, get up, or set your
- 16:46alarm for later. Yes, just yes.
- 16:48'Cause that, that, that waking up period, that you're just so
- 16:51groggy. Yeah, it's like, I don't know
- 16:53how you can. That's not Restful.
- 16:56Yeah, no. You know, I don't know what
- 16:57that's doing for you. Yeah.
- 16:59As we're as we're recording this, we have sports are on in
- 17:02the background. Yeah, hockey's playing right now
- 17:04and I, and I catch myself looking at it and I, I watching
- 17:06you look at it too. I just look at the score but but
- 17:09the wild during the playoffs, though, the Wolves just beat the
- 17:11Lakers last night in the I know too.
- 17:13I. Keep looking over at the TV but.
- 17:15All these games are on and our time they're on 8/30, 9:00
- 17:18start. So it means they're not over
- 17:20till 11/11/30 midnight and I have to up at 5:30.
- 17:24So I usually can stay up through half time or for the first or
- 17:27second period. Then I go upstairs, wash my
- 17:29teeth, get into bed and I'll I'll turn on in the bedroom and
- 17:31start watching there. And I usually just eventually
- 17:33fall asleep because I can't stay up that late.
- 17:35But even last night the wolves were on.
- 17:36The game was over at at the third end of the third quarter.
- 17:40I fell asleep. It was probably 1120 and I
- 17:42couldn't keep my eyes open, turn the teeth off, I go to sleep.
- 17:44So I got what, six hours of sleep?
- 17:47Yeah, still up at 525 before my. OK, way to bring the back.
- 17:51I'm glad you brought that back to waking up.
- 17:53Yeah, I know it doesn't. It doesn't matter.
- 17:55Doesn't matter. Over the weekend, neighbors came
- 17:58over, we had a campfire and got to bed at midnight.
- 18:02Freaking next day, Sunday morning, 6:00.
- 18:04I'm awake Now, granted I was a walking zombie the whole day and
- 18:08I was super tired and I took a three hour nap, but yeah, still
- 18:11can't break that habit of sleeping.
- 18:14In but but in retrospect too. Like I don't think I missed my
- 18:1720s where I would sleep for 12 hours.
- 18:20I don't. I didn't do it then either.
- 18:21I did a little bit. No, I didn't do it then.
- 18:24I did I. Don't know what it is, maybe my
- 18:26parents instilled in me the need to get up and work.
- 18:30Possibly it's very possible. Hey, this is Rob.
- 18:37I wanted to take a moment to talk about Spring and Green.
- 18:40I've been using them since 2007. They provide fertilizer, weed
- 18:44control, lawn insect control, and core aeration services for
- 18:47my lawn. They also spray for mosquitoes,
- 18:49which is huge in Minnesota and new later this year.
- 18:52Liquidations and home pest control.
- 18:54They're a locally owned and operated company.
- 18:56Super easy to get a hold of and work with.
- 18:58They'll give you the intention and service that you deserve.
- 19:01Visit theirwebsite@springdashgreen.com
- 19:03for a price quote specific to your property and to sign up for
- 19:06service. You can even register for auto
- 19:08pay or prepaid to save a little bit of cash right there on the
- 19:10website or shoot them a message with any questions.
- 19:12That's spring. dashgreen.com, springdashgreen.com.
- 19:25OK, we're back with hack #6. When a friend wants to borrow a
- 19:30tool, a book or something like that, snap a photo of them
- 19:35holding it so in the future you remember who has it.
- 19:39Awkward. I know, right?
- 19:40Sounds like it's a good idea, but I mean, I can see it being
- 19:43used from blackmail. Oh, totally.
- 19:45But you could use you could do the same thing in like a digital
- 19:48notebook and and keep it on your phone just so you have a memory
- 19:51of of where it went. That I get that the photo's a
- 19:54little. Sketchy.
- 19:56I know it would be weird, right? While you hold that, let me take
- 19:59a picture, because I don't trust that you're going to give that
- 20:03back to me. Because you know why?
- 20:04Yeah. You're untrusted.
- 20:06You're sketchy, so that's. What I was going to say, but I
- 20:08didn't want to say it out loud. No, I've never done that.
- 20:12I've never done that either. And there's, there's lots of
- 20:15take photos in this list. I, I mean, I'd like to see your,
- 20:17your, your, your photo album in your phone.
- 20:19Do you want to see that? OK, I don't know.
- 20:22This is my photo album. OK, so I am the guy who does not
- 20:25keep photos on their phone. Oh, OK.
- 20:27So my wife and my daughters have thousands, thousands of phone of
- 20:31photos on the phone. And and you back up to the
- 20:33cloud. I back up to the cloud and then
- 20:35take them off my phone. So I have on any given day about
- 20:3980 to 90 photos. That's it.
- 20:41OK. And so I get rid of everything.
- 20:43It goes up to Google and if I know if I oh, I want that photo,
- 20:47remember, whatever that whatever that was, I will go up to
- 20:50Google, get it, download it, and there it is.
- 20:53But lately as I'm on my nose is on the phone and I'm on Facebook
- 20:58all the time and all these little funny sayings that pop
- 21:03up. Well, I take little screen grabs
- 21:05of them and that's what my photos are littered with these
- 21:09little funny things. Because if you're reading one
- 21:11and you're like, it starts out to kind of calm and funny, but
- 21:13it makes me laugh at the end, like unexpected laugh.
- 21:16I totally got to copy that. And someday it's they're going
- 21:20to show up in this podcast because that's some like I got
- 21:24to talk about that in the future, right?
- 21:26But I'm waiting for a nice archive.
- 21:27Of them, I like that. So our photos, all the photos we
- 21:31take, they go into our, we can back them up and archive and
- 21:35everything, but we all have a couple of photos displays
- 21:38through our, through our house, the Google Home displays that
- 21:40are around and actually even on our TV's because we have the
- 21:42Google TV's. Yeah, so they come up on your
- 21:44TV. 'S almost come up on our TV's
- 21:46and our displays. So that's kind of it's all tied
- 21:49to my account to my phone. So I have to kind of be a little
- 21:53more. I don't have to, but I choose to
- 21:54be a little more diligent about what's in our photo albums and I
- 21:58will get rid of a lot of duplicates and all kind of file
- 22:01things or just, you know, just delete or whatever.
- 22:02Just kind of keep it a little bit under control.
- 22:04Everything the same thing. Everything automatically backs
- 22:06up. Yeah.
- 22:07So I, I don't worry about the storage part about it on my
- 22:09phone, but but it time stamps it for you.
- 22:12So like I go back to the archives by dates and I can do
- 22:14it. Yeah, exactly.
- 22:15And, and it's cool as I can search by face, you know, I can
- 22:17search by my whatever topic or place you're at and it's really
- 22:22easy to pull that stuff up at least.
- 22:24Yeah, that makes it very user friendly.
- 22:26And so like, I just pulled up my photos right now.
- 22:28I just hit my microphone with my phone.
- 22:31I just pull up my photos. And the type of things around
- 22:33here, like are memories that I want to keep fresh.
- 22:37Yeah. So it's like my daughter's
- 22:38wedding, my dog Gus, who is no longer with us.
- 22:43So then there's just some pictures of times I was in
- 22:47different states or countries. You know, there's a picture of
- 22:49the Pope who just passed away because we saw him, didn't shake
- 22:53his hand, but we got to see him. So yeah, there's just some fun
- 22:57things like that. But then like I told you, all of
- 23:00these little funny sayings, they're all over my, all over.
- 23:05I've been taking a lot of pictures.
- 23:06Did you see this one? I did see that one.
- 23:09He's showing a picture of me right now in in cartoon style.
- 23:12So it's. That's my latest fad is to take
- 23:15a picture and and run it through AI and make a cartoon out of
- 23:17this. It's it's very cute.
- 23:19I like it. That's very good.
- 23:20I have a lot of pictures right now of our house.
- 23:22Oh yeah, cuz there is a remodel going.
- 23:25There's a remodel going on which is nearly complete and surely in
- 23:28a few short weeks we'll have a lovely conversation with our
- 23:31contractor, Jeff. He'll be our very first podcast
- 23:33guest, super excited about. It I am looking forward to that
- 23:36and. Very forward to it So Jeff will
- 23:38Jeff will take some insight on the insurance and outs of
- 23:41contracting and home remodeling so all right next tip mark the
- 23:45side of your water bottle by hours so that you can keep track
- 23:48of what you've had to drink throughout the day that's a good
- 23:51idea A couple of reasons you. Do this, it promotes.
- 23:52Accountability helps you track your progress and helps you stay
- 23:55on track with your hydration goals, if you have any, which
- 23:57you should, helps you build a routine and it kind of also
- 24:03tracks your progress, which is motivating and satisfying and
- 24:06encourages mindful hydration, OK.
- 24:08Good idea. Do you do that?
- 24:09I don't do it. You don't do that because I, you
- 24:11see here I'm holding up my Stanley.
- 24:13I also have. A I'm not going to mark up my.
- 24:16Stanley, I'm not as well, but. I do try.
- 24:19To at least drink one or two of them a day.
- 24:21Agree, and that's really all I drink.
- 24:23Now is water I rarely drink. It depends.
- 24:26Usually it's always water. Yeah.
- 24:28But occasionally, you know, it's like, really a sweet care
- 24:30craving, you know, and I'm sitting there in front of my
- 24:32computer and I'm like, I'll have a soda, OK, but just for the
- 24:36sugar. That's it.
- 24:37Yeah. I.
- 24:39Have really limited myself to just like a soda like sorry
- 24:42sorry fountain soda. Oh, you like a fountain?
- 24:45Soda so really like we if you. Go look at our fridge right now
- 24:48there I think it's maybe 3 like bottles of pop that's it.
- 24:52Everything else is water or. Not water.
- 24:56Oh the the the not water canisters.
- 24:59Not water canisters. No, I pretty.
- 25:01Much only drink Sprite yeah no, we they just.
- 25:03Just fought and popped that that.
- 25:04That's my point. And you like Colas?
- 25:07I like. Yes, I like, well, yeah, I I
- 25:09like like 0 sugar, 0 sugar. Pepsi is 0 sugar Coke.
- 25:14My favorite is the the Coke machine.
- 25:16OK with all the little flavorly things.
- 25:18OK getting the 0 sugar lemonade with the with the strawberry
- 25:22flavour stuff. Oh, the syrup.
- 25:25Syrup. Thank you.
- 25:25So Strawberry. Lemonade is your mind going?
- 25:28See. I'm already drooling thinking
- 25:29about it, so yes, no, I don't drink any of that.
- 25:32Anymore I used to, but I just don't like cola.
- 25:35It's just don't like the flavour, none of it.
- 25:37I can see that and so I just because because I drink Sprite
- 25:40with my alcohol and so then I just drink Sprite alone.
- 25:44There you go. Makes sense.
- 25:45I like Sprite #8 Use your thumb to tell if the steak is cooked
- 25:53to the right temperature. Have.
- 25:55You ever done that? I.
- 25:56Know so here's what you do and and I do this so this is really
- 26:00it's really cool. So you bring your index finger
- 26:03and your thumb do it with me together and then you touch the
- 26:07fleshy part of your of right below your thumb.
- 26:10OK, that with your just your first finger and your thumb is
- 26:16rare. OK, That do you feel that the
- 26:19how easy it is to push that that's rare.
- 26:21When you push the steak on the grill, that's rare.
- 26:23Rare. OK, when you touch your middle
- 26:26finger to your thumb, that's medium.
- 26:29Do you got to touch them? Yeah, touch them.
- 26:32Then. Then that's medium.
- 26:33So you have. To make the OK symbol, yeah.
- 26:35And then touch under your thumb, under your thumb on your.
- 26:37Palm and the the pressure you feel on your hand, that's what
- 26:41the feel you should feel on your steak to get the different
- 26:44temperatures. And if you touch your pinky
- 26:46finger to your thumb, that's well done.
- 26:49Interesting. I did not know that and I I
- 26:52learned that. From a chef OK and and that's
- 26:55how I I test my meat on the grill and when I I pressure test
- 27:01and I push on the meat and I can tell by how flexible it is what
- 27:07level of done this it is. OK, so 2 questions.
- 27:09OK, do you not burn your finger all the time?
- 27:12Now I'm using. The tongs because I figured out
- 27:16by doing it enough that the pressure on the tongs, I can
- 27:19tell OK, is the pressure on OK? Because otherwise, yeah, I'd
- 27:24burn my finger. And then because that's my
- 27:25second question. Is I'm not.
- 27:27I'm eating your meat that you've touched.
- 27:28Well, no, Don't you have? OK, stop touching my meat.
- 27:33OK. Don't you have cooking gloves?
- 27:38Yes. Yeah, I wear the cooking gloves
- 27:40and then you can touch for a short time.
- 27:42You can touch it. OK.
- 27:43Third side question. OK, I like these.
- 27:46Why wouldn't you just use a meat?
- 27:47Thermometer. Yes, you could.
- 27:50You can I do all of the above. OK, Typically it's in the house
- 27:55and I want to run in the house and get it OK.
- 27:58So sure, laziness. So answer why I don't have?
- 28:01Another thermometer outside by my grill.
- 28:03Yeah, a great idea, but I don't have it.
- 28:06Gotcha. Gotcha.
- 28:07OK, but and I came across as hack.
- 28:09I'm like, hey, I do that all the time so I had to.
- 28:12It makes sense. It's a quick and easy way to do.
- 28:13It without tell our broader. Audience that that that hack
- 28:16actually works yeah I like it I like it I'm.
- 28:19With it. So have you at running back and
- 28:20forth to get your thermometer in the house?
- 28:22Have you ever slipped on the rug when you're running through the
- 28:25house to grab your thermometer? Oh yeah.
- 28:27Yeah, yeah. So a good hack for.
- 28:29That is to use a double sided tape. 2 sided tape on the rugs,
- 28:31keep them in place. Oh, that's a good idea.
- 28:34Yeah, we. We also do something else.
- 28:37In fact, we just bought a rug and bought you can buy the
- 28:40little like waffle. Yeah, it's a.
- 28:44Kind of rubbery stuff, rubbery stuff that that works.
- 28:46Just as well too. But if you have a hard hardwood
- 28:49floor, you definitely need to put something underneath the
- 28:50tape or the waffle stuff. Yeah.
- 28:53So my my. Wife bought a a new rug for the
- 28:54bathroom and it's a it's wool and it's really high quality.
- 28:59It's nice rug, but before we had the pad under it, you'd walk in
- 29:03and it you almost flipped, it would slide across the whole
- 29:07bathroom if you caught it the wrong way, so it wasn't like a
- 29:10bathroom. Bathroom rug.
- 29:12No, not made directly for the bathroom.
- 29:13It's a it's a a just a nice quality rug and we bought it in
- 29:18the size to fit the bathroom. OK.
- 29:20So then she bought a. Padded gripper pad.
- 29:26It works great, doesn't move at all except for, you know, how
- 29:28you walk on something and it just overtime slightly keeps
- 29:31adjusting, adjusting and adjusting.
- 29:33So pretty soon it'll be like an inch off the pad and then thing
- 29:36and I gotta fit that stupid thing out there.
- 29:40Yeah. Or, you know, my wife makes
- 29:44sourdough bread, right? That's the the big hobby right
- 29:46now. And it's amazing.
- 29:48It's delicious, I love it. But if you, when you're
- 29:51sprinkling flour, you get a little bit on the floor and you
- 29:53don't know it, right? Oh my gosh, I've almost bid it
- 29:56numerous times where you slide across the floor on one foot
- 30:00right come running in to. Grab your meat thermometer and
- 30:02right yeah, I'm. Running in to grab the meat
- 30:05thermometer. No, I'm not.
- 30:07I'm. Running to get a slice of.
- 30:08Bread. Exactly.
- 30:11So do your feet make your. Shoes a little bit stinky?
- 30:13No, I might. I smell like.
- 30:14Flowers. You do smell like flowers.
- 30:16Bad flowers, but life pack #10 try sticking dry tea bags in
- 30:22your shoes overnight to reduce the smell.
- 30:24What? How does that work?
- 30:25OK, so I. Have not done this yet, but what
- 30:28they say is the tea bags can absorb odors from shoes by
- 30:32absorbing the moisture and fighting the bacteria, leaving
- 30:35behind a pleasant earthy scent. So the granola hippy people.
- 30:39Would love this. I like.
- 30:41Granola. I'm kind of hippie.
- 30:44So you simply just place the unused, unused TV inside your
- 30:48shoes overnight and the moisture is sucked up into them.
- 30:52Apparently reduces the odor. Now, I haven't tried it yet,
- 30:55right? But I think that sounds really
- 30:57good. Yes, on paper it sounds.
- 30:59Great. OK, so.
- 31:01I will try it, OK, and then I'll report back.
- 31:04I want to report back, but no, I, I really want to give it a
- 31:06shot. You know what else?
- 31:08Helps eliminate sticky feet in your shoes.
- 31:11What wear? Socks.
- 31:12I do no. I know you do, but.
- 31:14That's going back to pet peeves a little bit.
- 31:18The trend now, and I'm saying my trend by what I watch on TV and
- 31:21clearly it's the shows I'm choosing to watch.
- 31:23Why do all the guys wear like like leather loafers and no
- 31:26socks? Well, they do have the A.
- 31:28No show socks. I understand well.
- 31:30Not always, no, If you don't. Like them if you're watching
- 31:33certain shows and sometimes I take the.
- 31:34Shoes off and there's no no show socks.
- 31:36Yeah. Definitely wear socks, that's
- 31:38just gross to me. So is it?
- 31:40Weird. OK, so I grew up, my dad always
- 31:44wore cowboy boots. Always.
- 31:47He always wore dark socks under him.
- 31:48OK. And his feet would stink.
- 31:50I mean, it was fill up the kitchen.
- 31:53It would be so bad, right? So then as an adult and I always
- 31:58wore white socks and when I would wear dark socks my feet
- 32:02would stink and I'm like OK, is there a correlation to dark
- 32:07socks and stinky feet I wonder so I don't.
- 32:10Know. If that's true or not, it's just
- 32:13been my experience. Somebody should research.
- 32:16That and let us know I I'm kind. Of digging research.
- 32:19Yeah, I'm curious. But I'll forget when I got here
- 32:23today. That's why I'm asking.
- 32:24Somebody should research it and e-mail us at 011 more
- 32:26thinkpod@gmail.com and let us know because I am very curious.
- 32:30OK, so you. Know when you're in the shower
- 32:32and there's that sliver of bar soap left that you can't wash
- 32:37your feet with, where you're supposed to wash your feet in
- 32:40the shower. But what do you do with that
- 32:42sliver of soap? You just throw it away, wash it
- 32:45on the drain? Here's a hack.
- 32:48You take that sliver of soap and you press it against the Nubar
- 32:53soap and it basically it glues itself together and then you
- 32:57never have to throw it away because you use it up.
- 32:59Makes sense? I do this all the time you do.
- 33:02So I squeeze and it works great with Irish Spring.
- 33:05FYI, doesn't work with a Dove soap.
- 33:09The too much lotion end up. So yeah, that makes sense.
- 33:11That makes. Sense.
- 33:12But yeah, you squeeze it together.
- 33:13And then by the time you get in the shower the next day,
- 33:16assuming you do shower every day, sure, it's stuck together.
- 33:19Makes sense. See I.
- 33:20Use liquid soap. Let me rephrase that.
- 33:23I'm at a point in my life where the hair on the top of my head
- 33:27doesn't really exist so much anymore.
- 33:29So I've now progressed on. I've progressed on to the three
- 33:33in one shampoo, conditioner and body wash.
- 33:37There's not much hair up there to wash.
- 33:39Don't worry about it anymore, you just spend it on your beard.
- 33:41Pretty much. And the hair on your back.
- 33:44And the hair. But.
- 33:47But yes, oh goodness, no. So.
- 33:51Yeah, I do that all the time. OK, makes sense.
- 33:53But then. I do have.
- 33:55As you've maybe seen, beautiful hair it is It is a gorgeous.
- 34:01Gray mane of hair. Yes, I would agree.
- 34:05All right, last one ready. Yes, in a.
- 34:09Rental car or. In your own car, look for the
- 34:12little icon for the gas pump. Yes.
- 34:15Yes, so the direction the. Gas handles pointing is the side
- 34:17of where to put your gas in, which is on some cars and others
- 34:21have a little triangle which is pointing in the direction where
- 34:23you should put your gas in. You knew that, right?
- 34:26OK, so. All growing up, my teen years in
- 34:30my 20s, probably even in my 30s and 40s, I didn't know that.
- 34:35It's pretty much pretty recent that I learned that, hey,
- 34:40there's an arrow. Yeah.
- 34:42That points to where my gas can is.
- 34:45Or cap gas tank, tank, door filler up a door, filler up a
- 34:48door. And also when the handle of the
- 34:52gas pump is out, it's pointing that direction.
- 34:55I'm like, that is good information, genius, right?
- 35:00They probably. Told us when I was. 16 But then
- 35:02what the hell was I paying attention to?
- 35:03Or, you know, it's probably. In the one thing that nobody
- 35:06ever looks at when they're going to get a vehicle, the manual,
- 35:10Why would you? Look at the manual.
- 35:11Unless something went wrong, why isn't that light on?
- 35:14Let's look at the manual. What?
- 35:16What is that thick book in the? Glove box, I don't know.
- 35:19It's always been there, Yeah. I have one from.
- 35:22A previous podcast though. What is it?
- 35:24Passwords. What about passwords?
- 35:27Well, did you listen to previous?
- 35:28Podcast. But I I will tell you again,
- 35:29'cause it's such a genius hack. Wait, I was there.
- 35:33When we recorded it. I do remember you talking.
- 35:36About passwords, so in case you didn't listen to it.
- 35:38Well, a go back and listen to it, but B really quickly what it
- 35:41is, is I have the same base password for everything.
- 35:45Oh, that's right, now. Let me think, just the other day
- 35:48you said to me, oh, I gotta get into this, what is my password?
- 35:52And I said I did. Isn't it the same?
- 35:55Password you always have, you just change the number and you
- 35:58said yes, but I don't know what number I'm on because.
- 36:03I what where am I trying? I trying to get something
- 36:06insurance Oh my. Yeah, the Bank of.
- 36:07Insurance 'cause they changed their flipping password like
- 36:10every 60 days or 30 days. What the heck it is?
- 36:12And that's safety. I get safety my butt.
- 36:16You can't keep up because why do I need to change your password
- 36:18all the time if Anyway tangent moving on OK.
- 36:24So I think that's it for now. OK, unless I do have one more,
- 36:29it's not really a life hack. It's more of a public service
- 36:32announcement. I'm in.
- 36:34So when I was reading through the bunch of life hacks and came
- 36:37across this, I'm like hell. Everybody needs to know what
- 36:41kind of whiskey to drink and when to drink it, of course.
- 36:44Right, so I thought I. Could take some time.
- 36:47We will talk about whiskey and bourbon.
- 36:49I like it. So if you're just trying to, you
- 36:52know, get a buzz on, get wasted, you know, with shots, go on a
- 36:57Bender, whatever it might be, hey, whiskey's great.
- 37:01Just take it and shoot it, drink it.
- 37:03I like whiskey with a mixed drinks, but if you're like me
- 37:06and you want to really savor the flavor, I go to bourbon.
- 37:11OK, why? Well.
- 37:13Bourbon to me is a little sweeter, and it's because it's
- 37:18made with the amount of corn mash in there when it's when
- 37:21it's distilled. OK.
- 37:23And see, that's regulated by bourbon, the powers that be.
- 37:28Powers that be. Yeah, where whiskey doesn't
- 37:30follow the same regulations. And so a lot of the flavor then
- 37:34after the the distilling process comes from the barrel and the
- 37:39color comes from the barrel. And the barrel has to be charred
- 37:41oak barrels, brand new charred oak barrels.
- 37:45And that's under regulation as well.
- 37:47And so if you like the sweeter bourbons like I do, then I look
- 37:51for bourbons that are finished in barrels that held Sherry or
- 37:55port or some kind of a wine, and then that influences the flavor
- 37:59of the bourbon and it makes it a little fruitier.
- 38:01OK, what? So between the whiskey and the
- 38:04bourbon though, they're the same family, correct?
- 38:08Yes. The all bourbons are whiskey,
- 38:10but not all whiskeys are bourbons.
- 38:13That's what it is. Because there's a lot of rules.
- 38:15That the bourbon make manufacturers have to follow and
- 38:18they're not the same in the whiskey world.
- 38:20And it used to be that bourbons were always made in Kentucky in
- 38:24a specific county, I think it was Bourbon County.
- 38:27But that's been loosened and they can be made anywhere in the
- 38:31United States because you can't have a a bourbon from Scotland
- 38:36because why? That's Scotch whiskey.
- 38:40OK, OK. If you do like that.
- 38:42And you like your bourbons or your drinks a little bit more
- 38:45spicy, then go for the rye, the rye whiskeys or the rye
- 38:48bourbons. If you like Scotch, which I also
- 38:51like Scotch, but you got to be careful in Scotch because
- 38:54there's, there's different flavor profiles.
- 38:56You got the lowlands of Scotland, you got the Highlands
- 38:59of Scotland. And so if you are drinking a, a
- 39:02whiskey from the the lowlands, it's going to be definitely more
- 39:07smoky flavored, more spicy flavors because they use the
- 39:10peat Moss and in the Highlands, they don't have that there.
- 39:13And so they're those Scotch just tastes a lot more like bourbons.
- 39:17And that's what I like. I like them to be in the sweeter
- 39:20side for sipping. I like that.
- 39:22Yeah, I I do notice. That usually when we get
- 39:23together, you do these, you have something in bourbon, the
- 39:26bourbon. Family in rocks glass.
- 39:28Yeah, yeah, I like that. OK, that's all I really.
- 39:30Have I'll stop now, but there is one more thing.
- 39:34Focus on the small wins. Oh, the small.
- 39:36Wins utilize simple life. Hacks concentrate on making
- 39:39small increment improvements every day rather than huge
- 39:42overhauls. It can really make a difference.
