Transcript
- 0:00The following program is produced by the Tech Talk Radio Network. Right it is
- 0:03a Colin Macria. Whose line is it anyway you're listening to tech talk Radio.
- 0:07I don't know how it works. It's all magical stuff to me.
- 0:11Welcome to another episode of tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Seanda
- 0:15Weird, and I'm Justin Lemme. You know, last week on the show,
- 0:19we talked quite a bit about Tesla, and we had a lot of
- 0:21people that listened on the show because of that. We were talking about,
- 0:26you know, if you thought about getting an EV, you thought about getting
- 0:29a Tesla, here's some things to think about, and justin you were kind
- 0:32of on point this past week. It's it's the media has been all over
- 0:36it. What's kind of going on with Tesla? Elon himself said it best.
- 0:40I think it was a couple of days ago. He was in an
- 0:42interview talking about it, basically saying that with Tesla, you know, the
- 0:47price changes have to happen with the market demand. And you know, Tesla
- 0:52has been going through some troubles in the past few months, and so you
- 0:57know, they've got a huge stock and like like I mentionedlast week, and
- 1:00they were trying to get rid of this stock, so they were lowering prices.
- 1:03But on top of that, what happened this last week they introduced a
- 1:06new version of the full self driving that was available to all the cars.
- 1:11And I did touch upon that. They gave everybody a free month of full
- 1:15self driving. And this is the one you tested out for that drive,
- 1:19right, Yeah, yes, exactly, yes, and you know, it
- 1:23definitely was improved, but it's not perfect. But the thing is is people
- 1:27were saying, you know, there's no way I'm going to pay fifteen thousand
- 1:30dollars for this on top of the car, like you know, it's just
- 1:33it's not ready for it. Well, as of this couple days ago,
- 1:37Tesla just announced that they just lowered the price of the full self driving package
- 1:42from fifteen thousand dollars down to eight thousand dollars, right, so, I
- 1:47mean almost cut it in half because they're trying to get more people to buy
- 1:51in on it. Personally, I still don't buy it. I would not
- 1:53pay five thousand or eight thousand dollars for that because although it is improved,
- 1:57it is still far from being something that I would trust the lives of myself
- 2:02and my family with because I've seen it firsthand that the mistakes that it makes,
- 2:08but it is an improvement. I personally don't think that the full self
- 2:13driving capability of this car is worth eight thousand. I would say if I
- 2:17were to put a number on it, I'd say maybe an extra five thousand.
- 2:21Yeah. Maybe. But then there's the people that actually paid the fifteen
- 2:24thousand dollars back from you know, twenty sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen,
- 2:29twenty twenty one, twenty two, twenty three. They paid all this
- 2:31money for this this thing that they were promised that is still not out,
- 2:37and now there's there's rumors that there's there's a class action lawsuit gonna happen to
- 2:42say, wait, we paid all this money and now you're gonna lower the
- 2:46price and you're still haven't delivered upon what you told us you were going to
- 2:51deliver it. They just keep lowering prices. I mean, the Model S
- 2:54their top of the line, they lowered it by five thousand dollars, The
- 2:57Model Why, they lowered it by another ten thousand dollars, the Model three,
- 3:00they lowered it by seven thousand dollars. They just keep lowering prices because
- 3:05I think you know, they're obviously trying to get rid of stock, but
- 3:07they're also trying to compete with other EV manufacturers. Would you say, justin
- 3:12are they still competing with Forward in the non EV category? Do they still
- 3:16look at them as competition? I mean, it's a vehicle, Well,
- 3:21it is a vehicle, but if you think about it, almost every auto
- 3:23manufacturer now has an EV. I mean, Mercedes, Volvo, Volkslagen,
- 3:30Ford, Cadillac, almost everybody. Now what I'm looking forward to, and
- 3:36not a lot has been talked about it, you know, recently, but
- 3:38I'm kind of looking forward to this new Toyota because Toyota said they're going to
- 3:43change the game when it comes to hydrogen powered cars, and they've proven it
- 3:47that the hydrogen car that they have is you know, the best thing out
- 3:53there because first off, it doesn't have to have it doesn't have to have
- 3:55a huge battery pack, right, so it's not going to be super heavy.
- 3:59It doesn't require gasoline. It requires hydrogen, which is super cheap and
- 4:03super abundant. The byproduct of it is literally water, like that's what it
- 4:09produces. Water. After our show aired, we started to get reports of
- 4:13the cyber truck having issues at a recall due to breaking and acceleration. Actually,
- 4:17oh yeah, getting stuck. That's where the pedal getting stuck. So
- 4:20it's kind of interesting. Justin you mentioned the price changes there at Tesla.
- 4:25There's also been changes that Elon Musk has implemented, or at least I heard
- 4:30this past week at X where what he wanted to do for any new profile
- 4:33created, say, somebody comes on to Twitter late, he figures everybody should
- 4:38be on there that they wanted to charge them, and the reason being is
- 4:42he feels that that would eliminate bots. So asign from Elon and X.
- 4:46What do you think about this TikTok thing? You know, some listeners that
- 4:49listen to the show may have never experienced TikTok or they may have seen their
- 4:54you know, their grandkids on TikTok. I thought it was kind of cool.
- 4:58Is this really our Should we really be concerned that TikTok is going to
- 5:03have secrets? Or is it really kind of silly? No? I think
- 5:09absolutely, really, I think there's one hundred percent concern about it. And
- 5:12TikTok can sit there and say all they want. They can sit there and
- 5:15lie to our faces, which is what they're doing. They're like, oh,
- 5:16yeah, we're not collecting any data on UNI users. It is proven.
- 5:19There have been people that have done deep dives into the application and found
- 5:26the information that it is collecting and sending back to byte Dance. So they're
- 5:30lying to us, they're lying to our faces. So yeah, absolutely,
- 5:34I think there's and not only just the information they collect on us per se.
- 5:39The bigger concern is the Chinese government being able to influence the content that
- 5:45is on TikTok, the content that users will see, especially during an election
- 5:51year. This is what I'm really concerned about because if that is true,
- 5:56which I'm pretty sure it is, that the Chinese government will say, hey,
- 5:59push this narrative, push this agenda, get rid of all this stuff
- 6:02on the platform, and instead push this stuff so people see it more.
- 6:06Yeah, I absolutely think it is. But the whole fact about selling TikTok
- 6:12to a US company, you you you're basically just transferring it from one devil
- 6:16to another. You know, it's going to go to a big tech firm
- 6:18in America, and big tech firms in America are horrible as well. The
- 6:23devil you know or the devil you don't. I mean It's already been proven
- 6:26that this has happened. Right. You had the whole Facebook issue, you
- 6:30know, the whatever the firm was that handle all the Facebook data. Oh
- 6:32yeah yeah, a Cambridge Analytica or something like that. Yeah. Yeah,
- 6:36it's already happened, And to say it's not happening is a ridiculous notion.
- 6:43All of our data is already out there. This somebody's prom somebody in Zoom
- 6:46has access to this recording. There's been story after story of Hey, this
- 6:50user or these people were able it might be a collection of this. Five
- 6:56people might be able to see your data. Well that's I have more people
- 7:00than what you told us earlier, So they're all looking at it. Everything
- 7:04you do on the internet is seen. You just have to accept that.
- 7:08I mean, think, think about this. You know they talk about Telegram
- 7:11or what'sapp and they say it's end to end encryption, right right? Who
- 7:15generates those keys? Who generates the keys to encrypt it? The company that
- 7:20owns the platform generates the keys. You think that they can't use your key
- 7:27to get in and see your stuff? Man, I got a bridge in
- 7:30Arizona to sell you. What wasn't it for sale? Once? Yeah?
- 7:33I know, right? Or what is that? The right? Is that
- 7:35the right? Quote a bridge? And are no ocean front property? That's
- 7:40what? Yeah, that works out a lot better. Yeh yeah, yeah,
- 7:42yeah that do yeah? My bad? All right, So Slick is
- 7:46trying to get in. Let's go ahead and bring Slick in. Uh.
- 7:48And he's been he's been pretty busy doing all kinds of stuff and it does
- 7:53take him usually a little while to propagate into our our cast. Slick,
- 7:57are you there? He's smuted? God change settings and plug and stuff and
- 8:01turn things on. And you know, I thought late, I thought should
- 8:05I ignore it or should I go ahead and bring him in? We thought
- 8:09we'll bring him in because it won't delay us too much. Slick, how
- 8:11you doing? All right? How's that microphone right there? That's how many
- 8:16microphones do you have? Uh? Well, I guess I used a Oh
- 8:20I have a road r Ode audio audio USB audio device right, And so
- 8:26I installed it and install the software, and the software installs multiple options for
- 8:31microphone and speaker, and I have to choose the correct one. But it
- 8:37just sounds silly. Well, we're glad you got it. Now. We've
- 8:39been talking about privacy, and we talked about TikTok and byte edance and uh
- 8:46what it when it comes to your personal privacy, you know what is protected
- 8:50with that? Though, there was a story not too long ago about Dji,
- 8:54the drone manufacturer, possibly getting some legislation against the company that you wouldn't
- 9:01be able to fly a drone made by Dji, and it kind of made
- 9:05a lot of his concern because I think, well, I own one.
- 9:07I know, Uh, Sean, I think you own own one and Justin
- 9:11owns one. What uh whatever happened with that. We haven't heard anything else
- 9:15on that yet. Yeah, I haven't seen anything on it. I know
- 9:18that there was a bill in legislation, uh to basically ban any Chinese manufactured
- 9:24drones from flying. And their concern was, you have to register it,
- 9:30you have to have the app sending out your location when you're flying, so
- 9:35that you could be identified by the FAA and the you know, some other
- 9:37things like that. They're concerned that now China's going to know where all these
- 9:41drones are all the time, have access to the video, have access to
- 9:45the data, and are just using that to aggregate this massive amount of data
- 9:50about the US in general. Right, So these lawmakers basically said, there's
- 9:56like it's called the Anti China Own Law or something just anti China Act.
- 10:03Yeah yeah, Anti China Act. Yeah. So it's you know, I
- 10:07don't know what they think they're gonna do by trying to stop the influx of
- 10:11cheap Chinese goods, but there's no I don't know. Here's an idea.
- 10:18I'm silly, Yeah, here's an idea. What is, uh, just
- 10:22stop doing trade with China. I don't know. It's amazing when you look
- 10:26at so many products that that are knockoffs, Like you get a product that's
- 10:31really good, like Belkan for example. Belcan has a product that I love.
- 10:37You put your camera, your phone on it and it follows you and
- 10:39has you know, used AI to track your your face and all that.
- 10:43I love it. But there are so many knockoffs of this device. I've
- 10:48had people that have sent me emails going, hey, what do you think
- 10:50of this? And I'm like, they look at it and go, well,
- 10:52it's fifty dollars cheaper, but what are you giving up when you purchase
- 10:56this? Well, I mean it is that whole website uh uh uh Timo,
- 11:01Timo, I mean it's it's basically all just Chinese knockoffs. I mean,
- 11:05not necessarily just China, but just like you know, East Asia.
- 11:09I mean, it's it's it's all knockoffs. But the thing is, it's
- 11:11not even just knockoffs. I mean, most of our products that we buy
- 11:16are made in China. I mean your iPhones, for instance, made in
- 11:20China. You know, and I know, I know, I'm looking at
- 11:24Indonesia as a as a new manufacturing partner, Okay, I get that,
- 11:26But like, yeah, Vietnam, Taiwan, which still technically China, I
- 11:31guess, I don't know, But most of the products we buy are made
- 11:35in China. I mean, it's just the way it is. It's the
- 11:39cheap labor, and it's the cost of doing business. But you know,
- 11:43I for one, personally believe and this is not the views of tech talk
- 11:46Radio as a hole, but I believe that. Yeah, I think there's
- 11:50something going on in the background. I think China is using its ability,
- 11:54its power as a manufacturing powerhouse to do this kind of stuff, collect data
- 12:01on Americans. Now, what they're gonna do with that data, who knows.
- 12:05I think the most likely answer is they're gonna try to influence the way
- 12:07we think and the way we do things around here. What's to stop a
- 12:11company from saying, hey, we're here in a good old US of a
- 12:15we're gonna we're gonna build it. They they go ahead and they put together
- 12:18a product, They get data, and they sell it to the to the
- 12:22foreign governments. I mean, how do we how do we know? You
- 12:26know? That's the thing. And I think most consumers, honestly, you
- 12:30look at the consumer backlash on the TikTok TikTok use, I think most consumers
- 12:35are like, I don't care. Most consumers mean to buy a television,
- 12:39I don't care it wasn't made in the US. I just did I get
- 12:41a good price on it? Does it have the ability for me to stream
- 12:46you know, my favorite networks onto it, like like a Roku TV or
- 12:48whatnot? Do people more than happy to be the battery in the matrix?
- 12:52I hear what you're saying. Yeah, do people really? So? There's
- 12:56actually I'm looking this up. I just actually googled it. Can companies sell
- 13:00user data to a foreign government? Apparently the only government that companies in the
- 13:05US is from what I can see here, and this is just with a
- 13:09quick Google foo, the only government that companies in the US can sell their
- 13:13data to is the US government. The FEDS are cracking down on companies that
- 13:18will sell their data to foreign governments without consent, but the US government can
- 13:24basically just seize your data. Ah, all right, okay, yeah again
- 13:33the devil you know or the devil you don't. All right, Well,
- 13:35we were kind of tracking towards DJI. They made an announcement this week and
- 13:41you know, aside from the drone stuff that Seoan had sent me and I
- 13:45thought, oh man, this is kind of cool. Sean, what were
- 13:48you able to find out about this? So they also launched a new drone,
- 13:52the Evada two. Right, well, their FPV drone, the Nevada.
- 13:56They launched a second version of that which has extended life batter you know,
- 14:00extended flight time. It's designed to do some more gesture controls, so
- 14:05you can use gesture controls instead of using the sticks. It's pretty cool.
- 14:09Check that out. It's the Evada two. But they, out of nowhere,
- 14:13out of left field, they dropped two solar generators. Huh. Well,
- 14:20so and I asked Sean, I said, do they fly? They
- 14:24do not fly. So they announced two lithium lithium iron phosphate battery generators,
- 14:33LiPo Lifo E whatever, the new lithium iron oxide batteries. They're rated for
- 14:43higher just like more discharges below eighty percent and the whole deal. But they
- 14:48launched two versions, a DJI Power five hundred and a DGI Power one thousand.
- 14:54Basically those are for the watt hours, right, five hundred twelve watt
- 14:58hours or one twenty four watt hours, So it if you're a boondocker,
- 15:05or if you're a prepper, or if you just want to be able to
- 15:09power your devices on the go, right, these are pretty legit, and
- 15:13they're priced pretty comparably to other stuff in the market. So if you're looking
- 15:20at these the thousand waters, you're looking to spend about seven hundred bucks for
- 15:26the thousand wade hour and three hundred and seventy nine for the five hundred whe
- 15:31hour, which is actually cheaper than most of the other ones like rock Pals
- 15:35or Jackerie or some of the other ones that are out there that I've looked
- 15:39into buying. So, and the benefit to these is that you can tie
- 15:43them in to solar panels to charge them on the go, So you could
- 15:48put up to eight hundred watts of solar panels in parallel and charge these.
- 15:54So this would be good if you're like a remote video shoot and you're using
- 15:58drugs and the drones you only get a certain amount of flight time. It's
- 16:02not like they charge themselves. They don't carry big solar panels on them.
- 16:06I don't know if that's going to be coming. But either way you have
- 16:08to land them and recharge or put a new battery in. Well, you
- 16:11have to find a way to charge that that. Actually, this could be
- 16:15good for that enthusiast that's doing a really tough shoot that's in the middle of
- 16:21nowhere that has no access to power. Yeah, and it gives you.
- 16:23So it's got an inverter on it also, so it will it will take
- 16:27convert the DC power into AC power, so you can charge literally any device
- 16:33you could think of. Obviously, don't try and do a microwave, even
- 16:36though they say you can do a microwave if you really want to do.
- 16:38Don't know why you would. But five hundred and twelve wat hour one can
- 16:42have up to three hundred wats of solar panel input. The one thousand wat
- 16:47hour one can have up to eight hundred watts of max solar power input.
- 16:49It's got USBC, it's got USB A, it's got your normal Edison AC
- 16:55plugs. It's good. No surprise that they dropped this. I was not
- 17:00expecting this from DJI to have their own standalone power banks. Right. Most
- 17:04people were buying third parties, right. They were buying Jackerie, they were
- 17:08buying rock Pals, they were buying other nigh brands, or they were even
- 17:11buying gas powered inverters like from Honda or Breader or anything like that. So
- 17:18they're just claiming all this fast charging and if you're connected to the grid power
- 17:22it could be at seventy percent in like twenty five minutes or something like that.
- 17:27Wow, it's all super fast charging using this newer lithium iron phosphate BAT
- 17:34chemistry. I know that Anchor has been working on a lot of the solar
- 17:40anchor. Anchor makes so many great products and like you look at they got
- 17:44so many different skews for whatever you want to do, they can do it.
- 17:47It was a Sean or Andy. I don't remember which one of you
- 17:48mentioned that, but you know this whole dooms You know people that are doomsday
- 17:52preppers whatever, Right, It's funny that you mentioned that, because I was
- 17:57just gonna say that. You know, since this this Amazon Prime Fallout TV
- 18:03show came out, it has actually started to increase the amount of people that
- 18:07are looking to prep for dooms Day? Are you kidding me? Real?
- 18:11People? Are? People are going out. I've been reading some Reddit threads.
- 18:14I'm trying to I'm trying to frantically find these Reddit threads I was on
- 18:18earlier, But people talking about buying these bunkers, buying these doomsday prep kits,
- 18:22the meal kits, things like that, because this TV show is like
- 18:27scaring them, which I mean, okay, it probably should to a certain
- 18:32extent, you know, because in the you know, I don't know if
- 18:34you've ever watched the Fallout TV show. If you haven't, it is truly
- 18:38amazing. It is based off the video game. Not going to go into
- 18:41it anymore. We talked about it last week, but it takes place and
- 18:45like it starts to take place in twenty seventy seven, which is just like
- 18:49you know that, you know, the year sixty forty fifty years ago from
- 18:55now. Yeah, to see you have to remember I came from the time
- 18:57when in element Tree school we would have drills and these drill cover that can
- 19:03cover, and I thought, that's gonna do anything for you exactly. I
- 19:07thought, all I'm going to do is be in a pill bug position when
- 19:11that big thing goes off. And that's I mean. We used to get
- 19:15the air raid sirens that would go I've lived in the honey To Beach and
- 19:18I'm sure they did them here, but they would go off, you know.
- 19:22I want to say it was it once a month on Friday, on
- 19:23a Friday, and they were the most terrifying things you could hear. Because
- 19:30you see some of this footage from these like what's going on in Ukraine and
- 19:33and everywhere else, and that's what you hear. It's that. That's the
- 19:37best part is that Fall on TV show takes place in Los Angeles. Oh
- 19:41my gosh, but I could. I couldn't. It didn't give me anything
- 19:47to do even want to watch the first watch the first episode. I'll take
- 19:49you for I know I'm going watch. I have to watch it a lot.
- 19:52I need to know how to get into it. So the game,
- 19:56the game was good. I've not watched the TV show. I'm excited for
- 19:59it, but I want to be for a minute, right, right,
- 20:00there is caution to be prepared. You should be prepared, and they recommend
- 20:07you be prepared for seventy two hours without food and water. That's the minimum,
- 20:11right, seventy seventy two hours for each person in your household. Right,
- 20:15So that for me, it'd be seventy two hours for four people,
- 20:18right right. That's the kind of it's either going to be resolved or you're
- 20:23going to be in a much worse state after seventy two hours, right,
- 20:27So sure, seventy two hours without power, without water, without food.
- 20:32That's kind of the FEMA standard for what would be a good like a good
- 20:36initial thing, like are you talking about just to go to Costco and maybe
- 20:40just buy like two of those like you know, big huge packs of water,
- 20:44you know, like the little bottled waters or something, just like two
- 20:47or three of them, like one one of those per person or something kind
- 20:49of thing with some canned food or whatever. They so they make Costco actually
- 20:56it recommends they actually sell individual five buckets seventy two hour kids per person.
- 21:02You can buy a bucket with a Wow water the bucket eighty four bucks or
- 21:07something like that. No, it's like two hundred or something dollars more.
- 21:11If you can, you can scale them up right, you can actually buy
- 21:14a whole palette of them. It's it's crazy. If I see those in
- 21:17Costco, I'm going to start to get scared. Keep a case of Costco
- 21:19water available, right, if it's just being prepared for seventy two hours off
- 21:23food or water, that's really kind of I don't really know how much more
- 21:26to say about that. I was looking for an excuse to buy a generator.
- 21:30There you go, Yeah, can you charge off your car this one?
- 21:34But if so, the DJI won the DJI Power Bank can charge off
- 21:40your car, right, you can run the AC, but if there's no
- 21:42power, you're not gonna get gas for your generator. So it's I think
- 21:45Andy was mentioning my house. You can't do that with the Tesla model why,
- 21:49but you can do it with the cyber truck and also with other actual
- 21:53like I think the gmc denali or whatever actually can charge your house or whatever
- 21:57power your house. Well you think, okay, So we got to think
- 22:00about this and the point that Sean is making. Let's try and remember back
- 22:04to two thousand. Was it two thousand when it was announced that we got
- 22:10locked down. Yeah. Do you remember how people responded by getting the toilet
- 22:15paper, getting the picure? You're talking about twenty twenty, not two thousand.
- 22:18Oh okay, yeah, I'm always off twenty. I was like,
- 22:22why two k we didn't get locked down? So, yeah, twenty twenty
- 22:26for COVID and then to two thousand, But for twenty twenty, we saw
- 22:29how people responded to that. Yeah, it was they were doing the same
- 22:33thing. The water, They were stocking up on everything. They even tried
- 22:37to close down all the liquor stores in the Denver or Colorado for like two
- 22:41hours. They were like, you know what, We're gonna close down all
- 22:45the liquor stores. Everybody made a mad dash to the liquor stores and there
- 22:48were lines outside the liquor stores. And then the government was like, okay,
- 22:51yeah that was a mistake. Yeah, sorry, We're we're gonna keep
- 22:53the liquor stores open. Can I make it? Can I make a recommendation
- 22:56too? Shut tell me tell me if this means to day't keep physical media.
- 23:00If you're looking so you don't go stir crazy, keep some physical media
- 23:04available because everything is digital. And if the grid has got an issue,
- 23:08well you may still have a hard time playing it, but at least you'll
- 23:11have something local. That's why I've ripped all my blue rays and DVDs.
- 23:15I still have them, right, yeah, but I have them available,
- 23:18so I can. You know, I have a generator in my house,
- 23:21right so if we lose power, I just go fire my generator and I
- 23:23have Can your generator actually do your whole house? Or no, I've got
- 23:30so. I had an electrician come in and put in separate circuits that tie
- 23:33in so that when I plug in, the generator fired up runs the fridge,
- 23:37the freezer, and the heat the blower for a heat if we need
- 23:40it, and it powers like two circuits in our house, so I could
- 23:47run like my TV or you know that's soundually pretty cool. All right,
- 23:51we got to take a break. We come back. A listener question from
- 23:53Lori who listens to us online out in Kentucky. So well you will share
- 23:57that with you coming up. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean de Weird,
- 24:00I'm Slick, and I'm justin. Find us on the web tech talk radio
- 24:04dot com. We'll be right back now back to tech talk Radio. So
- 24:10we have a listener question to bring us back from the break LORI listens to
- 24:14us online. Thank you Lori, and she is the guardian for a young
- 24:18man that is fourteen. Her question was that this young man is autistic and
- 24:21tends to go through tablets. This recent was an iPad that he threw.
- 24:26Is there a safe tablets to prevent them from being destroyed? Ow? Wow?
- 24:30I'm assuming she wants something that can be is durable. Yeah, could
- 24:33be protected. Hell yeah, there you go if you fling, because if
- 24:40you fling a an iPad, it's not going to survive it. Have there.
- 24:45They're good, but they're not built for being tossed. I mean,
- 24:48there are a few cases out there that do have like like a glass,
- 24:52like a protective on top of the screen. It obviously decreases the sensitivity of
- 24:57the touch screen whatever, but it does prevent a little bit of that.
- 25:03I mean, I don't know. It depends on how hard this person might
- 25:06be abusing the tablet. Law enforcement in the military they use laptops that are
- 25:12tough books. A rugged yeah, rugged tough books. There's one of the
- 25:18manufacturers another one that actually might be a pretty good choice for it because they
- 25:23still have stylists that can work with them. You know. You still use
- 25:26a mouse with them or keyboard. But at the age of fourteen, that
- 25:30might be just a little too much. I don't know if it may feel
- 25:34to this young man that it's like it's going too far back. But think
- 25:40about the Amazon Fire eight I think has bumpers on them, and if you've
- 25:45seen them, I just looked it up. It's the Amazon Fire HD eight
- 25:49kids pro Right, it's got a bumper, it's got protection and they even
- 25:57have a two year If it breaks, we replace free. That's the one
- 26:00cool thing about the Amazon Fire Yes, is that protection plan? Yeah?
- 26:04So, and they're no extra expensive. So though no, no, no,
- 26:14no no extra cost. It just comes with it. If you buy
- 26:15the kid's version, it comes with a two year no questions asked. You
- 26:19break, it will replace it, Okay. So, I mean it's not
- 26:23an iPad, so it's going to be limited to what you could do with
- 26:26the Amazon ecosystem. Right, there's ways around that. Yeah, you know,
- 26:32there's ways around that, and there's it's just you know, if it's
- 26:34you don't want to buy an eight hundred dollars device every six months. Yeah,
- 26:40they have an Android app store though, don't they? They do,
- 26:42But it's still it's still well newtered. I guess maybe you could say because
- 26:48they don't allow a lot of the native Android apps because Amazon. But again,
- 26:52there's ways around it. I had an iPad for years that was great,
- 26:56and I dropped it and it was in a case, but I dropped
- 26:59it in such a way that I was in the rocks out in front of
- 27:03the radio station, and one of the rocks the point tip was up and
- 27:06that's all they needed, you know, it just got to hit it the
- 27:07right way. You just got to Yeah, you got to hit on that
- 27:10corner of that glass or whatever, because a lot of times that that's that's
- 27:12the weakest point is the corners. Right. But if if this one might
- 27:18work for him, maybe going for that Amazon fire HD ten with the kid
- 27:23proofing on it, with the bumpers might be a way to go. Yeah,
- 27:26there's the HD. It's the all new fire HG ten kids Pro.
- 27:32All right, one hundred and eighty nine dollars. It's not bad. One
- 27:34of the things I wanted to mention this week is Microsoft. You know,
- 27:38they're still experiencing and playing around with the AI, and I think we're going
- 27:45to see the next if when we see and if and when we see a
- 27:48Windows twelve, we're going to see AI throughout the whole thing. And I
- 27:52don't know about you guys, if you're on Facebook, if you try and
- 27:53do a search now made as AI will jump in and it is so frustrating
- 28:00to try and really hit it's harder to look for stuff now using this thing
- 28:04that is just interruptive just because they say, well we got AI because you
- 28:08can't find what you're looking for, you know what you want to look for.
- 28:11But Microsoft is now testing video generation and if you seen this Vasa one,
- 28:18it's Vasa dash one justin I don't know what your thoughts of this,
- 28:22but you take a single photo and it can actually replicate the photo to movements.
- 28:29And one of the big ones this week was the Mona Lisa rap.
- 28:32So you can do Google search for that Mona Lisa rap. It looks like
- 28:37Mona Lisa is actually doing a rap tune. AI is still just within its
- 28:41infancy, I mean honestly, I mean, you know, I use AI
- 28:44every single day. I use CHATGBT exclusively for a lot of things. I
- 28:48use it for my trivia nights. I use it to generate trivia questions and
- 28:52I'm getting extremely fed up because it keeps giving me the same questions over and
- 28:56over and over, even though I've told it do not repeat these same questions.
- 29:00And it's like, okay, here's the same question. Yeah. And
- 29:04also with programming, I mean they were touting that chat GPT was great for
- 29:10coding. Yes, it did help me create a PowerShell script to onboard new
- 29:15users, but it had multiple errors with it that I could not figure out,
- 29:22and it was generating those errors. It was telling me to do this,
- 29:25and I'm like, hey, this doesn't work. Why, well,
- 29:26you know, blah blah blah. And it's like, no, dude,
- 29:29stop saying the same thing. Here's what fixed it. I'll tell you what
- 29:32fixed it. A sixteen year old kid, right, No, I'm not
- 29:37lying. My intern. My intern at work is a sixteen year old boy.
- 29:41And he I was like, you know what you said. You're interested
- 29:44in programming, right, yeah, come take a look at the script.
- 29:47What's wrong with this? Why why is this not working? Well, what's
- 29:48the air? Blah blah blah. Okay, thirty seconds later, there's your
- 29:52problem right there? Like what, well, there's your problem? Sure enough,
- 29:55I adjusted it, bam, ran the script everything worked just fine.
- 29:56I'm like, so then I go and tell Chad Beauty like, hey,
- 30:00chat, ept, here's the problem and here's how he fixed it. Great.
- 30:03Wait that's it. Like that's all you're gonna say. That's that's it.
- 30:06Like it's not. It's not the greatest. And especially when it comes
- 30:08to video AI. I mean, there are some really really good ones out
- 30:12there, like really super paid, like you have to pay or just they're
- 30:15not publicly accessible. But the public versions of these AI video generators no,
- 30:22well the one from Adobe, because the Adobe's really pushing that AI is a
- 30:26big part of their their suite products. They've got you know, Photoshop and
- 30:30they're calling it generative AI. And Sean, I think you've dabbled a little
- 30:34in this. Have you looked at it? I tried, and then I
- 30:38just you guys know me, I'm anti AI, right. I gave up
- 30:44because I was like, show me this picture with some nord lights, yeah,
- 30:48or show me a plane flying and it was just like it just pasted
- 30:49a plane on top of like a scene. It was pretty bad. I'm
- 30:52sure if I played with it and I could find tuned in stuff, but
- 30:56for for what I do and for my creative brand, like the AI just
- 31:00takes the human out of it. Right. I want to do all this
- 31:03stuff. I want to generate this content with my own my own creative consciousness,
- 31:08and I don't want to just type in tell me this thing and have
- 31:14it brought me. Like I'm the anti AI one out of all this,
- 31:17right, I don't know. I mean, I'm kind of equal. I'm
- 31:19willing to give it a chance. I'll give it like three shots. And
- 31:22I think I've given all of them, all of the most popular ones out
- 31:26there right now, the three biggies a chance, and they blew it.
- 31:29I mean they didn't even come close to the subject I was talking about or
- 31:33wanted to address it. And I'm like, I don't have time for this.
- 31:36Like you said, justin it's quicker for me to type it into the
- 31:38search one. I agree with both of what you guys are saying. I
- 31:41totally agree. But here's the caveat to that. The thing about AI is
- 31:45you have to learn how to speak to it. Yeah, It's like it's
- 31:51like we're saying, Okay, by the way, the Internet is now going
- 31:55to be completely in Mandarin Chinese. You can't just go expect that you're just
- 32:00going to go to you know, the new version of Google and type in
- 32:05something in some random like rudimentary Mandarin Chinese and get what you're looking for.
- 32:09No, you have to understand Mandarin Chinese in order to get what you're looking
- 32:14for, right, So that's an example. You have to understand how to
- 32:16talk to the AI, and I have had to learn that the hard way
- 32:21and I'm getting better at it. But it is truly a programming language really,
- 32:27and that's that's where the big part of it is is that people are
- 32:31going to learn how to work with AI and how to speak to an AI
- 32:37to make it do what you wanted to do. Those are the jobs that
- 32:42people are talking about where you're going to get paid half a million dollars a
- 32:45year to do. This is because you understand the ins and outs of how
- 32:51to speak to an AI. Well, somebody who's coming out of maybe changing
- 32:55your job and they go into a possible employer, and the employer once you'd
- 32:59have computer skills, if they want you to have computer skills and skills working
- 33:02with chat, GPT or any of the other AIS that are that are out
- 33:07there. If you have that, you've got the advantage there because you unders
- 33:12you understand how that works, so that could benefit you, even if you
- 33:15like like some of us here, don't like AI and think it's completely intrusive
- 33:20and and never hit makes the mark. Having those skills though, and learning
- 33:23how as you say Justin to talk to AI is going to be a big
- 33:27benefit. I agree with Justin because and the reason here's why, Because I
- 33:31believe based over the many years I have learned how to speak to search engines,
- 33:36how to get the information because I'm able to find things other people they
- 33:39said, well, how did you do that? But I don't know what
- 33:44it is And it's probably just me and my brain and the search window.
- 33:46We just know how to talk to each other, you know, I've I've
- 33:49learned and and you know it's it's just me but the A. But and
- 33:52I get what you're saying about the A. But if it's gonna make too
- 33:55many mistakes, I don't have time for those mistakes. Well okay, well,
- 33:59okay, mistakes, all right, fine mistakes. How many times have
- 34:02you searched for something on Google and it's given you the wrong result and I've
- 34:06gone to a different search engine. Yeah, I've done that too, So
- 34:08you go to a different AI, it's the same thing. This is just
- 34:12history repeating itself, except this time history is a lot more powerful. Sean
- 34:15was kind of chuckling near a second ago, too, and it looked like
- 34:20you were laughing. I know, I'm just agreeing with Slake. Like you
- 34:22guys, I can google things way faster than the three of you. Like
- 34:27you guys are always like, oh, Sean's got it pulled up. Yep.
- 34:29Yeah, you guys always say Sean's the one to google it, Shawn's
- 34:31the one to find out all the facts. That is true. But like
- 34:35I said, if you want to do something simple, where if I want
- 34:37to, I want to write a quick Python script to make Hello World?
- 34:43Okay, yeah, okay, yeah, I can google that. I'm sure
- 34:45I can find a website that will tell me that. Or I could just
- 34:49go to chattyboutine and say, hey, write me a Python script for Hello
- 34:51World, damn instantly done. Do you think, though, that those listening
- 34:55are getting fatigued when it comes to AI, that maybe are not even remotely
- 35:01interested in that, that that have no desire because it's just being shoved into
- 35:07our face. Even banks we use AI to coordinate with you it's like we
- 35:13don't care. Oh, I don't think multiple AI. Yeah, there,
- 35:17I don't think multiple I don't think most people know how much AI already influences
- 35:22their lives, but they don't even know it. They think it's a sales
- 35:25tool. Though part of it is, you know, we we use AI
- 35:29to pick the programming you would love. I mean you think about it.
- 35:32The the your user data, do your tracking of of your Internet search history,
- 35:37or what you're watching on your smart TV, you know smart TV's.
- 35:40They gather your data, they gather what channel you're watching, what your volume
- 35:45level is, what your brightness setting is. Do you think a human actually
- 35:49reviews that data. No, an AI does, and the AI sorts out
- 35:52what's important and what's not and then sells that data. So AI has been
- 35:58around for a long time, it's just now become mainstream. Yeah, video
- 36:00AI also can be kind of scary. But Adobe I wanted to mention this.
- 36:07Their premiere pro program is going to be using that generative AI. So
- 36:10like, say you have the video I saw for it. They got a
- 36:14box of diamonds and it's a movie scene and the guy walks up and he
- 36:17grabs the box, but there's not enough diamonds in there, so you use
- 36:21the generative AI to fill that and make those diamonds shiny and more diamonds.
- 36:27You can even stretch it to generate diamonds like that. You could do right.
- 36:30You can even stretch a scene. You need the scene to go just
- 36:34a little bit longer, but you don't have enough footage. The AI will
- 36:37take that scene and stretch it an extra five seconds or ten seconds. So
- 36:42if you're a video editor, you have benefits from that. Now, if
- 36:45you are somebody that wants to experience AI and you haven't gone on to Open
- 36:51Ai to do it, there's a new website for you. It's talkai dot
- 36:54info. So if you go to t a l k ai dot oh,
- 37:00you can actually have a conversation with a chatbot without having to sign up or
- 37:05log in. Just as a way, they want people to experience this and
- 37:08see what they think about it. And you may look at it. Somebody
- 37:12listening may look at it go this is dumb, or they might go,
- 37:15whoa, this is kind of new worlds. I can kind of see how
- 37:17this could work for me, so I might want to check that out.
- 37:22This literally is open AI's chat GPT but it is the free version of it,
- 37:27Yes, exactly. So all right, coming up, there is a
- 37:30we Like entertainment and there is a show that is coming to southern Arizona.
- 37:35You may have heard of them. They're called Yachtlee Crewe and they do a
- 37:40slick shaking his head. I know you've heard as a radio DJ, you've
- 37:45played yacht rock, right. Oh yeah, you think of Christopher Crofts,
- 37:49you think of Kenny log and Michael McDonald, you know, some of the
- 37:52great songs to be listening to while you were on the yacht. They took
- 37:57the yacht rock theme and had some fun with it and called themselves yachtly Crue.
- 38:00We're going to talk to a member of that how they use the Internet
- 38:04to kind of promote some of the stuff they're doing. So we'll do with
- 38:07that when we we'll get to talk to Philip from the band. Coming up
- 38:10here on tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean de Weird,
- 38:14i am Slick, and I'm the AI version of Justin. Lemme hold you
- 38:17right back. A little glitch there, see and that fact to tech Talk
- 38:24Radio. Welcome back to tech Talk Radio. I gotta tell you we are
- 38:28really excited about a band that is coming through Tucson. Again. That just
- 38:31makes everybody smile because there's so much fun and it's always great to talk to
- 38:37the people behind the band and we get the entertainment angle, but it's always
- 38:39cool to find out maybe a little bit about how technology has helped the band
- 38:45find its audience, and it certainly has in this case. The band is
- 38:49called Yachtlee Crue and with us on the line is Philly Ocean, the lead
- 38:53vocalist for Yachtlee Crue. That's the nation's number one yacht rock band. Philly,
- 38:59good to talk to you man, Good morning, Thanks so much for
- 39:00having me on the show. Yeah, we're stoked to come back to Tucson.
- 39:04We love Tucson. May third at the wealso Tucson loves you guys too.
- 39:07I mean, you don't know how many times that I've been somewhere somebody
- 39:12says, hey, man, if you checked out Yachtlee Crue, they love
- 39:14it because you just have so much fun. We have an easy job in
- 39:17some regards because the music was so good and people love it so much.
- 39:22That's like, you know that that really sets the stage. And then all
- 39:25we have to do is deliver an amazing performance, which that's maybe in some
- 39:30ways easier said than done, but we're up to the challenge. We love
- 39:34what we do so much. It's absolutely that we have the most fun that
- 39:37you could possibly imagine. All Right, So when you look at the band's
- 39:40history, when did you guys get started? We started back in twenty seventeen
- 39:44in southern California. We're playing anywhere we could, mostly local, small bars
- 39:49and small music venues. Pretty immediately, it was obvious to us that the
- 39:53audience was responding and people really liked what we were up to. We had
- 39:59no idea how long or how far that would go. But you know,
- 40:04here we are seven years in and it kind of feels like we're just getting
- 40:07started. I mean, the audiences just keep getting bigger and bigger, the
- 40:09venues get bigger, and we're able to play more places than we ever have
- 40:14played ever. When I think of yat Rock, I think of Christopher Cross,
- 40:16I think of Michael McDonald. You know, I got to think about
- 40:21Toto too. Is that like the playlist? How is it kind of how
- 40:24do you guys come up with that? You know, there's there's like at
- 40:28least twenty of these songs that are just like the defining songs of the yacht
- 40:32rock genre, right right, and a lot of those artists you just said
- 40:37so in that like, you know, we have to play Africa. You
- 40:40know, we have to play you make my dreams come true. You know,
- 40:45we have to play ride like the wind Sailing, et cetera. You
- 40:47know, there's the core songs, but it's an expansive genre as well,
- 40:52and there's so much good music from this era. You know, the late
- 40:55seventies, early eighties is soft rock vibe. Now you can run into some
- 41:00skirmishes with people who are hardliners for what they think yacht rock is and is
- 41:07not. But we we have a pretty i don't want to say liberal view
- 41:14of it, but we have an inclusive view of it. We will try
- 41:16things and we will ultimately let the crowd be the deciding factor, right you
- 41:22know. And so like, for example, one song that is not considered
- 41:27yacht rock, we just started doing and people are going crazy for. And
- 41:30that's I'm still standing by Elton John. Oh yeah, even we even do
- 41:35come sail Away by Sticks and and that song absolutely crushes and it's so right
- 41:40for the for what we do and our look and the whole vibe of the
- 41:44night. So it's not considered by some hardliners to be yacht rock. Guess
- 41:50what it is. It is yat rock because people love it. You know.
- 41:52That's that's the end of the day. Philip running to any of the
- 41:55artists that have been behind some of these yacht rock bands, out of these
- 41:59songs, writers or artists respond to the band when they see you and hear
- 42:02you. Early on, we met Peter Beckett and Elliott Leurie, and we've
- 42:07we've kind of heard through the grapevine that, like, we know Trev Lucather,
- 42:13who is Steve Lucather from Toto's son. He's been to our shows,
- 42:17you know, we know Michael McDonald's sister is a yachtley Crew fan. She's
- 42:22come to a bunch of shows. He knows about us. I think it
- 42:24was I think the whole yacht rock thing, especially because there's that like web
- 42:29series out there that kind of makes fun of these people in some way.
- 42:32I think it was met with some skepticism early on, but I think the
- 42:37staying power of it and the you know, just the rabid fan base of
- 42:43this music has has shown them that, like, you know, and maybe
- 42:46it's got started a little bit ironically, but it's really out of a deep
- 42:52love of this music and because the music is so good that it is persistent,
- 42:57and so I think they've kind of come around a lot on it.
- 43:00Honestly. Now, for those that have never been to Yacht Lee Cruise Show
- 43:04and again, uh, the tour full steam ahead is gonna be hitting the
- 43:07rialto theater May third, just around the corner. What will they actually see
- 43:10when they come to see a show. It's more than just you guys up
- 43:14playing yacht rock tunes. You have personas. Yeah. Yeah, Well we're
- 43:16performers, you know, and we we love performing, we love putting on
- 43:21a show. And so what I tell people is just think we are the
- 43:23kiss of yacht rock. That is how we've been described in the papers.
- 43:30You know, we put on a super high energy show. There's a lot
- 43:31of production that goes into it. There's a lot of energy, and there's
- 43:36a lot of crowd involvement, you know, and you'll see if you've never
- 43:38heard of yacht rock, you've never been to a yacht crew show before.
- 43:42When you walk in, you're gonna see hundreds of people wearing captain's hats.
- 43:45I'm gonna see people dressed up like Holland Oates. You're gonna see people dress
- 43:49up like Gilligan and the Skipper. Some somehow that fits. I don't know
- 43:52exactly how, but I'm not gonna knock it out. Yacht right. People
- 43:55get involved in that and it makes it so much fun. It makes it
- 44:00whole experience. How has when you look at technology, how was how is
- 44:05the internet? And how has social media kind of helped the band get the
- 44:08word out there? You just played last last year you played your first international
- 44:13show, right, yep, we played. We played on a cruise ship
- 44:15actually going from Liverpool to Belfast and that was a that was a thirty six
- 44:20hour journey where we literally flew over to the UK. We got off,
- 44:25we got on a cruise ship, played a show that night, slept,
- 44:29woke up, got off, drove to the Dublin airport and flew home.
- 44:32It was insane. Wow, it was so fun too. I mean it
- 44:36was really really cool to be able to do something like that. In terms
- 44:42of your other question, yeah, I don't know that we would have found
- 44:45our audience, our base without the Internet and social media specifically. I really
- 44:52think that you know, for all of its evils. You know, we
- 44:58found our audience on Facebook and instat you know, that's how we do the
- 45:02majority of our marketing. And I really think that that empowered us to go
- 45:08be And it's really hard to be a band. And I don't mean that
- 45:12like, you know, I'm not trying to sound like a victim or I
- 45:15don't need sympathy. I'm just saying that, you know, there's so much
- 45:19coming at people all the time. To try and get your you know,
- 45:22get people's eyeballs on what you're doing is really really tough. And social media
- 45:28and the access that that has created to people is really amazing for people who
- 45:35are you know, homegrown artists and that's what we do. We're blue collar
- 45:38musicians. We just love doing what we do and this is all that we
- 45:43do. So to be able to find an audience, I don't know that
- 45:45it would have been possible at this level, at the very least as quickly
- 45:49as it's been without the use of social media. And of course managing the
- 45:53band actually comes from Andy Gould. This guy's got like a background rob Zombie
- 46:00Guns and Roses Pantera. When you think about it, you think of metal
- 46:02now he's got this yacht cru group with a great name. Yeah, And
- 46:07you know it's funny because we Andy's you know, he's a part of the
- 46:09Yotlet Crew family. He's he's really taken really good care of us and he
- 46:15cares about what we do. And you know, we've talked him about that
- 46:19because yeah, most of his career has been on, you know, a
- 46:21hard rock, heavy metal side of things, and he goes, you know,
- 46:23it does it's never been about being in that genre. That just happened
- 46:28to be how he stumbled in his job as a manager is to identify good
- 46:34music with potential, and how he's found Yachte Crue. He was actually seeing
- 46:40some other artists across the street in Los Angeles at the Whiskey when we had
- 46:45our residency at the Viper Room. Oh wow, and he didn't he didn't
- 46:50much care for that artist. So he left and he walked out from the
- 46:52Whiskey and he looked across the street and he saw a line of people wearing
- 46:57Captain's hat around the block waiting to get into the Viper Room, and he's
- 47:00like, what the hell is going on over here? It's not Charlie Waffles.
- 47:04The street Yeah, he walked across the street and they were they were
- 47:07they were like, Andy, I think rack capacity. We can't let you
- 47:10any like you're letting me in. And he saw us and it really began,
- 47:15you know, this relationship. He was like, there's something, there's
- 47:20something here, and we're gon, we're gonna, We're gonna take it as
- 47:23far as we can. That is so cool. Now, you've got a
- 47:27an EP that's uh that's available called Seize the Day. When listeners purchased that,
- 47:31whether at the show or online, what will they hear? That is
- 47:36a It's an EP, so it's a six song EP. It is a
- 47:39collection of some of our favorites. We're all also working on another album now,
- 47:45but I'll stick with Sees the Day. It also has an original song
- 47:47that we wrote that's called Sex on the Beach. We got to make a
- 47:51music video with our good friend Mario Lopez, who's a Rabbit rockeicionado nice and
- 47:58it was a lot of fun. We really put our heart and soul to
- 48:00that first EP. You can also buy a limited edition vinyl of that EP
- 48:07on our website and it's pressed in flamingo pink and it's really really cool.
- 48:10That's awesome. Right now, the website and I want our listeners to check
- 48:15it out is Yachtlecrue dot com. You can keep in touch with the band,
- 48:20find out where they're going to be playing at and again maybe some more
- 48:22info on that upcoming album. Yachtlecrue dot com. Find you on Instagram,
- 48:28Facebook, and x and don't forget to check out the show on the third

- 48:34like the food? Honestly, the whole vibe of the town is amazing.
- 48:37I mean, the whole downtown area is so cool. The food is awesome
- 48:42in Tucson. I mean every time I'm there, I have an incredible meal,
- 48:45I meet awesome people, and every time we've come back to Tucson,
- 48:47the crowd just gets bigger and bigger, and the energy is amazing. And
- 48:51that's what I love more than anything, is when I get to perform in
- 48:54front of our crowd. That is just they're there for it, and that's
- 48:59how Tucson is. Yachtlee Crue again, thank you so much, Philip for

- 50:02sometimes nefarious reasons, whether they want to hack your bank account, they want
- 50:07to get into something that you're protecting, uh, they'll use what's called phishing.
- 50:14And you may have heard of that term phishing. It's not Andy and
- 50:17Opie going out and going to the watering hole. No, it's actually trying
- 50:21to get information. Now, Slick, you've had something recently been going on
- 50:25that an IT department for somebody you work with. They're trying to get you.
- 50:30Yeah, yeah, and so far they're owing to good. Now how
- 50:36did you know that they were? It was a phishing attempt? Was it
- 50:37a bad one? Well? It was? I am. I have in
- 50:44all of my email accounts. I have all of my headers open, meaning
- 50:50that as you get an email in everyone and you see who it's from,
- 50:52you know, you say it's from Slick. Well I get to see more
- 50:55than that. I get to see Slick, and then I get to see
- 50:58the email address it came from, and the date and the time, and
- 51:02maybe even more routing information below that, depending on which email service you use,
- 51:07depends on how much you can expand on that right, and I will
- 51:09open all of that stuff up because I want to know and if something looks
- 51:15out of place, a date, even as strange as that may sound to
- 51:19you, the date can be wrong and you go, wait a minute,
- 51:21that's that's a weird, weird number there it's and even a name like it
- 51:25comes from slick. Well you should be getting in general, you should be
- 51:28getting slick at tech talk radio dot com. If you get it from slick
- 51:31at anywhere else, a chance it's not me. Yeah. Now this is
- 51:37a normal practice, isn't it. Yeah, the normal practice. And uh
- 51:40and the city and uh city government has been doing it because uh locally and
- 51:45I think you remember this, Andy, are our school district as well as
- 51:50our city government were hacked. Yeah, and probably because somebody clicks up some
- 51:54city should that click on. So the latest one that happened today to me
- 52:00was it came into my government email address, used my legal name, you
- 52:05know, my birthname, but then it said, uh, you have jury
- 52:08duty that was the subject line. Really wow, would come to me that
- 52:15way saying I have So I opened it up and took a look, and
- 52:17I'm scrolling through and there's a link you click here to do all that.
- 52:22So one of the things everyone you should always do, always do, always
- 52:27do is hover over the links just so you can see what the web address
- 52:34is. Because had it been maybe a dot gov or something like that,
- 52:37maybe I would have looked more into it. But oh no, it started
- 52:40out with a lot dot gov hyphen and then it showed something else, you
- 52:45know, and like atmail at gmail dot com. Now justin you do this
- 52:51as the IT director, Oh, I do this. I do this for
- 52:52fun. Yeah. I actually send out phishing attempts for fun to my the
- 52:58co workers because I'm the IT manager. We use a service through Ninjo Now
- 53:01Ninjo n I n I n jio dot com is a great cybersecurity training platform.
- 53:07They release monthly videos that are fun, engaging. They're four minutes long.
- 53:14They teach you about cybersecurity, but they also give you the ability to
- 53:17send phishing emails. You have to. It's a lengthy setup process on the
- 53:22IT side of it, but you can basically set those emails to be allowed
- 53:25through your spam filters and things like that, so they have free access.
- 53:30The one that I love to do, and I did it before is and
- 53:32I and it got almost everybody is I sent out an email with the subject
- 53:38line, you know my company names new personal or no, I'm sorry,
- 53:44new work from home policy, and that right there the keywords work from home.
- 53:50Oh my god, we can work from home? Yeah, I want
- 53:52to know about this and they click on the link and bam, I got
- 53:54them. Yeah and and and so yeah, so I am. I'm in
- 54:00everybody's heads and I get them all the time. As a matter of fact,
- 54:02I'm actually about to do physical cybersecurity training and I have a new summer
- 54:08intern that's going to be joining our company, and I'm actually gonna dress them
- 54:13up as a Verizon technician. And here's the thing. I've got the fake
- 54:17badge, I've got the vest, I've got the hard hat, I've got
- 54:20the clipboard with the fake work order. I've got everything needed to fool somebody.
- 54:24And I'm going to send this intern out to all of our sites because
- 54:29we have multiple locations, and I'm going to tell them I want you to
- 54:31get into our IT room because I've told them, I've told all of the
- 54:37managers of all these sites, do not allow anybody into the IT room without
- 54:43my explicit permission. First, I'm gonna send this person out with a thing
- 54:46saying, uh, yeah, I'm from Verizon. I've got this work order
- 54:51for a new Internet circuit. I got to get into your IT room.
- 54:53And I'm just going to see who lets them in the IT room. Well,
- 54:57because if they do then we're going to have a discussion. We gotta
- 55:00talk more. We gotta talk more about this on the next show about you
- 55:04know, the ways that you know that you're being fished or somebody is attempting,
- 55:07So we'll do that coming up. Also, we'll tell you more about
- 55:10a story that I read recently about smart watches and how they are really good
- 55:15and I believe it now and I'll tell you why. But that's it for
- 55:19this week's Tech Talk Radio. Thank you everybody for joining in. I'm Andy
- 55:22Taylor, I'm Seonda Weird, I'm Slick, and I'm justin. Let me
- 55:25once again find us on the internets tech talk radio dot com. Have yourselves
- 55:30a great week. We'll see you
