- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. All right, well once again
- 0:07Speaker 1: here on one look up with Alex Garrett. I have
- 0:09Speaker 1: to give credit to President Trump for stepping into something
- 0:12Speaker 1: I did not expect them to step into. Headlines are
- 0:15Speaker 1: that he has stepped into the lr labor dispute, which,
- 0:19Speaker 1: as you might be following, has been an issue. I mean,
- 0:22Speaker 1: they were about to go on strike as of last week,
- 0:25Speaker 1: and yet he stepped in and stopped it and created
- 0:29Speaker 1: what they call an emergency board to investigate disputes between
- 0:34Speaker 1: the larr and the unions. Now, I know my colleague
- 0:37Speaker 1: Heer Ryan and friend here has been looking at this
- 0:39Speaker 1: more than I have. What was the issue with the
- 0:42Speaker 1: dispute to begin with?
- 0:44Speaker 2: Yeah, so a lot of it. It boiled down to
- 0:47Speaker 2: five unions representing Long Island Railroad workers, so it's not
- 0:51Speaker 2: everybody that works for the railroad, but a good chunk
- 0:56Speaker 2: of the staff. They wanted new contracts. They wanted raises
- 0:59Speaker 2: to keep up with the economy and the inflated cost
- 1:03Speaker 2: of living these days that you're bound to get with
- 1:05Speaker 2: the changing of the times. Now, to my understanding, the
- 1:09Speaker 2: MTA was proposing a six percent wage increase. But to
- 1:13Speaker 2: my understanding the unions wanted nine percent, and that's kind
- 1:16Speaker 2: of where the talks really stalled, where the threats of
- 1:20Speaker 2: a strike, which would be the first in decades, or
- 1:23Speaker 2: would have been the first two decades, had that actually.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Gone tomorrow right Thursday, which would have been impacting more
- 1:29Speaker 1: than two and seventy thousand customers. We are two of them.
- 1:33Speaker 1: And so it's now put off for now four months
- 1:36Speaker 1: or so. And I hear Governor Hokel was actually on
- 1:39Speaker 1: board with this. Is that what happened there?
- 1:41Speaker 2: Yeah, And it's kind of crazy to think about, because
- 1:43Speaker 2: I mean, she tacnically somebody that's overseeing the MTA, being
- 1:49Speaker 2: that it's an entity representing the state of New York here.
- 1:53Speaker 2: And I'll be honest, I was a little bit surprised
- 1:56Speaker 2: that she was perfectly okay with this because at this point,
- 2:00Speaker 2: and this is something that I talked about on my
- 2:01Speaker 2: own podcast, Pag's Perspective, she just seemed more or less
- 2:05Speaker 2: resigned to throwing her hands in the air and saying, well,
- 2:09Speaker 2: we tried. Any strike that happens, it's all President Trump's fault.
- 2:12Speaker 2: I want everybody to know, if this strike happens, it's
- 2:15Speaker 2: on the President and nobody else. She seemed more or
- 2:18Speaker 2: less resigned to doing that and going to the playbook
- 2:21Speaker 2: of just blaming Trump for everything. But yet that hasn't happened.
- 2:24Speaker 2: She's acting in the best interests of New Yorkers, the MTA,
- 2:29Speaker 2: as well as the union workers by allowing these talks
- 2:31Speaker 2: to continue through mid May twenty twenty six, where if
- 2:35Speaker 2: they can't get a deal done by that point, that
- 2:37Speaker 2: is what a strike would happen. So I gotta give
- 2:39Speaker 2: her credit for that.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Well, we'll see what happens. That's the latest for that
- 2:43Speaker 1: no strike on the LR. It was cool to see
- 2:44Speaker 1: that design, but I was stay in transportation because the
- 2:48Speaker 1: DOJ you know call screening here for Mike Gallagher in
- 2:52Speaker 1: the national hours of sale made in New York. It's
- 2:55Speaker 1: opened my eyes to all the news and apparently Pam
- 2:58Speaker 1: Bondy was under fire about targeting a hate speech and
- 3:01Speaker 1: all that, and whether she was actually gonna lock people up.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Well after last Wednesday, I can't believe it was in
- 3:05Speaker 1: a week since Charlie Kirk was assassinated. A week ago
- 3:09Speaker 1: that horrific tragedy happened. It feels like twenty years ago
- 3:14Speaker 1: at this point. The way things have been moving. There's
- 3:16Speaker 1: been charges against the shooter himself, seven of them, and
- 3:19Speaker 1: I hope that maybe he does get the chair or
- 3:22Speaker 1: the firing squad. I don't know yet, but all to say,
- 3:26Speaker 1: Bondi's also been keeping a rye on something else which
- 3:28Speaker 1: impacts the disabled community. I got this letter the other day.
- 3:33Speaker 1: This is funny because I didn't think we get this
- 3:35Speaker 1: note that Uber is unfairly impacting the disabled community, according
- 3:41Speaker 1: to the DOJ. I don't know if you heard about this, Ryan,
- 3:44Speaker 1: but Uber denies rides to passengers with disabilities, the Justice
- 3:50Speaker 1: Department claims in new lawsuit CBS News Rights the Justice
- 3:54Speaker 1: Department has filled one hundred and twenty five million dollar
- 3:58Speaker 1: lawsuits against Uber, a legend that the ride sharing company
- 4:02Speaker 1: discriminates against passengers with disabilities. Here at one look up, Alex,
- 4:05Speaker 1: we talk about this, and I want to shout out
- 4:08Speaker 1: my colleague, my friend, and the guy behind Tripper, Eric Ryan.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Right now, this is an example of why Tripper is
- 4:15Speaker 1: so important in this time. Not only does Uber not
- 4:19Speaker 1: help about people disabilities on Long Island, now they say
- 4:23Speaker 1: Uber is viling the ADA by routinely.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Refusing to serve individuals with disabilities charging cleaning fees because
- 4:31Speaker 3: of service animals shedding and charging cancelation fees to writers
- 4:35Speaker 3: who are unlawfully denied service.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Uber of course denies this, but you know what Uber's pattern.
- 4:41Speaker 1: I could see this happening. Them and Lift don't even
- 4:43Speaker 1: provide a service in Long Island, so this does not
- 4:46Speaker 1: surprise me. I wish the DJ would actually include that
- 4:49Speaker 1: in this letter. The ADA requires ride sharing companies to
- 4:55Speaker 1: allow service animals and adaptability right, the ADA will always
- 4:58Speaker 1: be adapting to these different needs of people in the
- 5:01Speaker 1: technological age. ADA requires ride sharing companies to allow service
- 5:05Speaker 1: animals accompanying people with disabilities on rides, providing rides and
- 5:09Speaker 1: assistance to people with sable wheelchairs and mobility devices. By
- 5:15Speaker 1: lawsuit reviewed by CBS News highlighted Uber saying that many
- 5:22Speaker 1: individuals disabilities increasingly rely on Uber services to meet their
- 5:25Speaker 1: and transportation needs, including travel, work, medical appointments, for religious services,
- 5:29Speaker 1: and other important places. The company has refused to reasonably
- 5:33Speaker 1: modify its policies to avoid discriminating against riders disabilities, or
- 5:38Speaker 1: train or train drivers in ADA compliance, meaning individuals with
- 5:43Speaker 1: disabilities have experienced of the infinite delays misdippointments have been
- 5:47Speaker 1: left stranded and inclement weather. This is what I'm talking about.
- 5:51Speaker 1: I didn't see Biden DOJ do this. I didn't see
- 5:55Speaker 1: them go after Uber like this, And so I applaud
- 5:58Speaker 1: Pambondi for why now she's dealing with this horrific tragedy
- 6:02Speaker 1: also going ahead and standing up for people disabilities. And
- 6:06Speaker 1: you might think, well, why are you giving the Trump
- 6:08Speaker 1: credit for doing that? Well here it is here, it
- 6:11Speaker 1: is right here staying up for people disabilities. I don't
- 6:13Speaker 1: always agree with the Trump administration, but I can applaud
- 6:16Speaker 1: them for something like this where the holding one of
- 6:19Speaker 1: the biggest ride share, the biggest ride share companies accountable
- 6:23Speaker 1: accountable for this. In a response to the lawsuit, Uber
- 6:28Speaker 1: has said every driver must acknowledge and agree to the
- 6:31Speaker 1: Service Animal policy and appreciate and applicable accessibility to laws.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Drivers who violate Uber policies face the size of action,
- 6:39Speaker 1: including permanent account the activation. They've also said they're investing
- 6:44Speaker 1: in technology training and dedicating report in general. But look,
- 6:48Speaker 1: I don't care what Hooper says. This is a massive lawsuit,
- 6:51Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty five million dollars. Tell people with disabilities.
- 6:56Speaker 1: I would love for the DJ and Eric Ryan to
- 6:58Speaker 1: connect right now about this and promote Tripper even more.
- 7:02Speaker 1: If DJ's gonna really stake a claim in making this
- 7:06Speaker 1: right Sharing Services ADA complaint, Eric Ryan, here's your chance.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Let's connect with the DJ right now, right Ryan.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Yeah, And it sounds like, you know, Eric Ryan would
- 7:16Speaker 2: have a ton to say about that, because it's just
- 7:18Speaker 2: crazy that it's taken until now to acknowledge that Uber
- 7:22Speaker 2: has been doing wrong by so many non able bodied folks.
- 7:28Speaker 2: And and credit to the Trump administration for finally being
- 7:33Speaker 2: the ones to deal with that, because I mean, he's
- 7:37Speaker 2: able bodied folks. They should be treated like any regular
- 7:40Speaker 2: human as well. So let's not forget that.
- 7:43Speaker 1: And do you know it's not just a baseless lawsuit.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Over a dozen people with disabilities have been involved in this.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Also talked about Ryan Honick, for example, as cited by
- 7:56Speaker 1: CBS News, who has CP and use the service dog
- 7:59Speaker 1: for some test including opening doors, is named in the lawsuit.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Honig said that this is evidence of widespread civil rights
- 8:07Speaker 1: failure when companies like Uber consistently failed to comply with
- 8:10Speaker 1: the law. It's disabled riders who are disabled writers who
- 8:14Speaker 1: are felt behind this lawsuit. Underscore is a long standing pattern.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Puple disabilities have been have called out for years and now,
- 8:22Speaker 1: and I want to stay corrected. The Biden DJ did
- 8:25Speaker 1: deal with this as far as passenger fees in twenty
- 8:28Speaker 1: twenty two, but this takes it a step further.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I think, yeah, because also with the passenger fees as well,
- 8:35Speaker 2: if I recall correctly, that's more so dealing with something
- 8:38Speaker 2: that everybody has had to deal with, and not just
- 8:42Speaker 2: the disabled communities that are being directly impacted by this lawsuit.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Right now, and assistant ad Harmey Dyllon, who we've you know,
- 8:51Speaker 1: we've heard a lot about and has gotten praise from
- 8:53Speaker 1: the conservative world, said this, for far too long, blind
- 8:57Speaker 1: writers have suffered repeated ride denials by Uber because they're
- 9:00Speaker 1: traveling with a service dog. This lawsuit seeks to end
- 9:03Speaker 1: the persistent discrimination and allow riders with disabilities to use Uber.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Sometimes we gotta be frank here, we got an Uber
- 9:11Speaker 1: with with someone with a driver, and sometimes you wonder
- 9:15Speaker 1: how they got even there because the driving's bumpy, The
- 9:19Speaker 1: ride for gave's une always comfortable. I mean, there are
- 9:21Speaker 1: changes that could be made to the vehicles themselves.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Exactly, and it's just one of it's just those times too,
- 9:26Speaker 2: where you just want to ask the driver and you
- 9:30Speaker 2: know what your badge number, because you know, that's what
- 9:32Speaker 2: a lot of people used to do with New York
- 9:34Speaker 2: City taxis back in the day. If they felt wrong
- 9:37Speaker 2: by taxi driver, for example, it be like, eh, you
- 9:40Speaker 2: know what's your badge number? To report them and hold
- 9:43Speaker 2: the drivers accountable for this behavior. And you know, I'm
- 9:47Speaker 2: not necessarily sure if something like this exists with these
- 9:50Speaker 2: ride sharing apps like Uber and Lyft to this day.
- 9:52Speaker 2: But even in New York City, you're seeing a lot
- 9:54Speaker 2: of taxi drivers now doubling as Uber and Lyft drivers.
- 9:58Speaker 2: So you'd think there would be a simil or system
- 10:00Speaker 2: in place, especially here in New York to be able
- 10:04Speaker 2: to report said behavior, especially if somebody feels like they're
- 10:08Speaker 2: being heavily wronged by a driver based off of their condition.
- 10:13Speaker 1: And I think this has to go with member the
- 10:15Speaker 1: service dog. That the guy got punched out by an
- 10:17Speaker 1: Uber driver not too long ago for having the service
- 10:20Speaker 1: dog and it was like he knocked him out cold.
- 10:22Speaker 1: That video was horrific. I think that's what spread the son,
- 10:25Speaker 1: to be honest with you, But here's what Dylan go
- 10:27Speaker 1: on goes on to say, we will enforce the ada's
- 10:30Speaker 1: guarantee that people with disabilities have equal opportunity and full
- 10:33Speaker 1: participation in all aspects of American society, including transportation. Now, Ryan, yes,
- 10:40Speaker 1: this is a mainstream but I have not heard a
- 10:42Speaker 1: lot of podcasts talk about this. I feel like this
- 10:44Speaker 1: is breaking news to some people.
- 10:46Speaker 2: This definitely is. I mean, I can say I'm one
- 10:49Speaker 2: of them, honestly, And it's just kind of crazy that
- 10:52Speaker 2: this isn't being talked about more. Now. I get it,
- 10:55Speaker 2: the tragic death of Charlie Kirk exactly a week ago
- 10:59Speaker 2: on the day recording this, it's still dominating the headlines
- 11:03Speaker 2: left and right. I get that. But at the same time,
- 11:07Speaker 2: you think more outlets would be picking up on this,
- 11:11Speaker 2: especially because this is something that isn't just gonna affect
- 11:13Speaker 2: the disabled community, really affects everybody if you want to
- 11:17Speaker 2: go to that whole trickle down effect.
- 11:19Speaker 1: And this also demands when we're paid monetary damages to
- 11:21Speaker 1: writers who have been affected and a civil penalty to
- 11:25Speaker 1: vindicate the public's interest in eliminating disability and discrimination. So
- 11:30Speaker 1: when I hear boat crap and look, I've shaken Trump's
- 11:33Speaker 1: hand Okay, twenty years ago, I shook his hand at
- 11:36Speaker 1: Yankee Stadium. And I'm not here to defend Trump on everything.
- 11:39Speaker 1: But when I hear bulk crap about how we hate
- 11:41Speaker 1: to disabled community, look to this lawsuit as an example.
- 11:44Speaker 1: That's his DOJ right there, stepping in like he just
- 11:47Speaker 1: stepped into the LR, like he's stepping in on federal
- 11:50Speaker 1: cases with Charlotte. I mean, this guy is on it,
- 11:55Speaker 1: and I can respect him for that. I can really
- 11:57Speaker 1: respect him.
- 11:58Speaker 2: For that, especially when the prior administration wasn't going leaps
- 12:02Speaker 2: and bounds above everybody else to take care of this stuff.
- 12:06Speaker 1: And so and I know Pambondi is behind this as well,
- 12:08Speaker 1: so I gotta give her a lot of credit as well.
- 12:10Speaker 1: But yeah, we gotta have Eric on this. I said
- 12:12Speaker 1: him the article and say, hey, here's your time to shine, dude.
- 12:16Speaker 1: This is where Tripper can really shine because he can
- 12:18Speaker 1: make the point, Hey, Uber is doing a disservice. That's
- 12:21Speaker 1: where Tripper comes in. Uber is not serving you after
- 12:24Speaker 1: ten pm in Long Island or whatever, or even not
- 12:26Speaker 1: at all. That's where Tripper comes in. And now you've
- 12:29Speaker 1: got a lawsuit that really can I would say leverage
- 12:33Speaker 1: trippers standing in the space.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Yeah, and just make it more well known to folks
- 12:41Speaker 2: who may have only heard of Uber or lyft, really
- 12:44Speaker 2: everybody that has only heard of the mainstream options per se.
- 12:48Speaker 1: So that's the breaking news. I couldn't stay silent much longer.
- 12:51Speaker 1: And by the way, I might just throw this on
- 12:53Speaker 1: the breaking news stream that we have at One Leg
- 12:55Speaker 1: Up Alex at Airtime. I'm gonna share that link. I'm
- 12:58Speaker 1: gonna invest, as I just signed up for Spreaker another year,
- 13:02Speaker 1: I'm gonna also invest thanks to this idea spark grant,
- 13:05Speaker 1: I feel like I have some, you know, cash to
- 13:08Speaker 1: spend and really grow this out. We're gonna do a
- 13:10Speaker 1: twenty four to seven streaming service at One Leg Up
- 13:13Speaker 1: Alex thanks to Airtime pro. So don't miss that. It's
- 13:16Speaker 1: on right now. I'll share the link with you, and

- 13:27Speaker 1: seven Alex, as Ryan has now said, because it's time.
- 13:30Speaker 1: It's time to be beyond. And I love Spreaker and
- 13:32Speaker 1: it's my flagship, but it's time to spin off and
- 13:35Speaker 1: do something even bigger with this.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Platform exactly twenty four to seven. Alex.
- 13:40Speaker 1: There, there you go. Well, I'm Alex Garrett, breaking news
- 13:44Speaker 1: and it amazingly has to do a Trump on both
- 13:46Speaker 1: fronts and the Trump administration. And you can't knock them
- 13:51Speaker 1: for that. Here at one leg up, Alex Garett
