- 0:12Speaker 2: It is time to leave your worries outside and laugh
- 0:16Speaker 2: with us inside the Treehouse. I'm Dan O'Malley along with
- 0:20Speaker 2: Trey Trendholm and Raj Sharma. So much happening already early
- 0:26Speaker 2: into this brand new year, not the least of which
- 0:30Speaker 2: is this shocking story. A class action lawsuit filed in
- 0:36Speaker 2: Illinois claims that McDonald's McRib sandwich does not contain any
- 0:40Speaker 2: actual pork rib meat. I thought this has been covered
- 0:49Speaker 2: many times over the years that it never did. We
- 0:56Speaker 2: all knew it didn't right, and most of us just
- 0:59Speaker 2: didn't question because it was tasty.
- 1:03Speaker 3: I never had it, have you.
- 1:09Speaker 1: I didn't think McDonald's ever even claimed that it had
- 1:11Speaker 1: rib meat.
- 1:13Speaker 2: That's kind of where I'm at, Like, sure, we call
- 1:16Speaker 2: it the McRib, but there's nothing in the real world
- 1:18Speaker 2: actually called the mcribs or they're just creating things. But
- 1:20Speaker 2: now there's a group of people that feel like, hey,
- 1:22Speaker 2: you said rib, therefore you're implying and advertising rib meat
- 1:27Speaker 2: in the McRib sandwich. But there isn't any. So now
- 1:31Speaker 2: we're going to file a lawsuit and that's exactly what's happened,
- 1:36Speaker 2: and they filed it in Illinois, where McDonald's is based.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Chicago based fast food giant McDonald's released a statement after
- 1:43Speaker 2: a class action complaint alleged the company misled customers, saying
- 1:47Speaker 2: the chain's popular Mcribs sandwich does not contain any actual
- 1:52Speaker 2: pork rib meat at all. The lawsuit was filed two
- 1:55Speaker 2: days before Christmas and was brought by four individuals who
- 1:58Speaker 2: claim McDonald's knowingly markets the sandwich in a way that
- 2:01Speaker 2: deceives reasonable customers, with the planineiffs alleging the sandwich is
- 2:06Speaker 2: actually constructed using are you ready ground up portions of
- 2:10Speaker 2: lower quality pork products such as pork shoulder heart and
- 2:15Speaker 2: everyone's favorite scalded stomach hmm. The suit also says the
- 2:22Speaker 2: sandwich is among the most expensive individual item on the
- 2:26Speaker 2: McDonald's menus, costing up to seven dollars and eighty nine
- 2:29Speaker 2: cents at some locations, and according to the lawsuit, pork
- 2:32Speaker 2: grib meat is traditionally considered a premium cut and lower
- 2:35Speaker 2: grade cuts are less valuable. Hence the website I'm sorry,
- 2:40Speaker 2: hence the lawsuit, and McDonald's on its website says The
- 2:45Speaker 2: mcgrib consists of seasoned, boneless pork dipped in a tangy
- 2:49Speaker 2: barbecue sauce, topped with slivered onions and tiny pickles, all
- 2:52Speaker 2: served on a toasted home style bun, and also describes
- 2:55Speaker 2: the meat as a quote unquote pork patty.
- 2:59Speaker 4: Right.
- 3:02Speaker 1: I think some of these, I mean, obviously this is
- 3:04Speaker 1: just they're hoping to get some cash. And if you're
- 3:09Speaker 1: eating the McRib, you're really concerned about the cut of meat.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Look, I get it if they are truly truly advertising
- 3:22Speaker 2: it as some sort of high end thing, like like
- 3:27Speaker 2: like take Arby's for example, I think they actually like
- 3:29Speaker 2: they had something on their menu that had pork belly
- 3:32Speaker 2: on it, and that is now considered a high end
- 3:35Speaker 2: menu item and it's very popular among high end restaurants.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Pork belly is so the fact that Arby's had it
- 3:41Speaker 2: on their menu is like WHOA. Also, because Arby's had
- 3:44Speaker 2: it on their menu, a lot of us are like, WHOA,
- 3:47Speaker 2: I don't want their pork belly because it may not
- 3:51Speaker 2: be very good because it's fast food style. Kind of
- 3:55Speaker 2: the same thing with the McDonald's. Right, If I want
- 3:58Speaker 2: high end ribs, I'm not at McDonald's ordering the mcribs sandwich.
- 4:02Speaker 2: I'm going to go to Hurtado or Prakhan Lodge or
- 4:05Speaker 2: something like that.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I'm not going to assume McDonald's because
- 4:12Speaker 1: the Big Mac didn't do a bad morning show.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Well said, hey. Yeah. A total of sixteen court claims
- 4:30Speaker 2: were listed in the suit, including fraudulent omission or concealment,
- 4:34Speaker 2: fraudulent misrepresentation, negligent misrepresentation, fraud, breach of contract, and the
- 4:39Speaker 2: violation of state consumer protection laws in California, Illinois, New York,
- 4:44Speaker 2: and Washington. D C McDonald's issued this statement saying, this
- 4:49Speaker 2: lawsuit distorts the facts and many of the claims are inaccurate.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Food quality and safety or at the heart of everything
- 4:54Speaker 2: we do heart. That's why we're committed to using real
- 4:59Speaker 2: quality the ingredients across our entire menu. Our fan favorite
- 5:03Speaker 2: McRib sad which is made with one hundred percent pork
- 5:06Speaker 2: sourced from farmers and suppliers across the US. See, there
- 5:09Speaker 2: you go. That's something important to keep in mind. You're
- 5:11Speaker 2: McRib sam which may have a little bit of pig
- 5:13Speaker 2: from California, some from North Carolina, it's from all over.
- 5:17Speaker 2: It's an American sandwich to be sure. They also say
- 5:22Speaker 2: we've always been transparent about our ingredients so guests can
- 5:25Speaker 2: make the right choice for them. The mcgrib's history is
- 5:28Speaker 2: actually pretty fascinating, dates back decades, having first been introduced
- 5:32Speaker 2: onto menus in nineteen eighty one. In a year since,
- 5:36Speaker 2: it has returned on a limited basis, which the lawsuit
- 5:38Speaker 2: stated compounded consumer confusions surrounding the true contents of the item.
- 5:43Speaker 2: The more I read about this, the more it's such
- 5:45Speaker 2: a just bs lawsuit. Well you didn't. It's like, there's
- 5:50Speaker 2: no there's no actual rib meat in it. It costs
- 5:52Speaker 2: too much, and we don't know when it's coming, so
- 5:55Speaker 2: then we're confused about it. That's the point. It drives
- 5:58Speaker 2: up interest. So when it does all of a sudden
- 6:00Speaker 2: drop out of the you know, a barbecue sauce sky,
- 6:04Speaker 2: everyone clamors for it because they know it's only for
- 6:07Speaker 2: a limited time.
- 6:09Speaker 1: I mean, we've read stories over the years of people
- 6:13Speaker 1: crossing multiple state lines to go get the McRib. Here's
- 6:18Speaker 1: the thought. If you're that worried, don't eat it.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Also, let's keep in mind, I feel like this lawsuit
- 6:27Speaker 2: is more of an attack on common sense than it
- 6:29Speaker 2: is on misleading marketing. It's called the McRib, right, But
- 6:35Speaker 2: when you see it, it kind of looks like a
- 6:39Speaker 2: small portion of a little baby back rib thing, right,
- 6:44Speaker 2: But common sense tells you if you're eating an actual
- 6:47Speaker 2: small portion of baby back ribs and you see the
- 6:50Speaker 2: little protrusions, you're not supposed to be able to chew
- 6:53Speaker 2: through that because that's bone. So when you bite into
- 6:57Speaker 2: the McRib and the rib part doesn't have any bone,
- 7:00Speaker 2: is that'sn't They don't realize about. What they're mad about
- 7:03Speaker 2: is that the thing doesn't have any bone in it
- 7:05Speaker 2: because the little protrusion is meant to look like bone,
- 7:07Speaker 2: but it's all meat, so the whole thing is not real.
- 7:09Speaker 2: It just tastes really good, so people want to eat it.
- 7:16Speaker 4: I'm gonna try it now. I've never had it, so no,
- 7:19Speaker 4: I have to try it.
- 7:21Speaker 2: I imagine, like most things ras, you'll eat it at
- 7:24Speaker 2: this point in your life and you'll hate it because
- 7:25Speaker 2: you didn't enjoy it as a child.
- 7:27Speaker 3: First, it's not a Christmas story. It's the McRib.
- 7:37Speaker 2: I bet in your eyes and your mouth both will
- 7:39Speaker 2: be equally disgusting because you already don't like Christmas stories.
- 7:42Speaker 2: So I assume you probably won't like the mcgrib.
- 7:44Speaker 4: I like pickles, I like onions, I like barbecue sauce.
- 7:47Speaker 3: I like pork. If it's got all of those.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Technically, yeah, technically, I mean it's basically like just like
- 7:59Speaker 2: a really tang yoga Matt.
- 8:04Speaker 4: Now, I'm definitely not having it, and we invented yoga.
- 8:08Speaker 4: So but I'll give it a shot.
- 8:14Speaker 3: I can't.
- 8:15Speaker 4: I mean, you can file a lawsuit against anybody today
- 8:19Speaker 4: that's for anything, right, so they'll win, they'll settle out.
- 8:25Speaker 3: They're not going to take this to court.
- 8:27Speaker 4: It would take too much time, it would take too
- 8:28Speaker 4: much money out of McDonald's pockets for all of their
- 8:31Speaker 4: lawyers to you know, go to a courtroom and sit
- 8:34Speaker 4: there and deal with these people.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Then file the class action. Lots of that's amazing, you
- 8:39Speaker 3: know what.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Honestly, it's it's a great idea for a quick payday.
- 8:42Speaker 2: I say quick sure in terms of judicial process processes,
- 8:48Speaker 2: because your hope is not so much that you win,
- 8:51Speaker 2: it's that you get some sort of a settlement to
- 8:54Speaker 2: be told.
- 8:55Speaker 3: To go away.
- 8:56Speaker 2: I hope everybody gets. I hope as they can hope
- 8:58Speaker 2: for it.
- 8:59Speaker 4: I hope everybody gets seven dollars and eighty nine cents
- 9:01Speaker 4: and a McRib.
- 9:04Speaker 2: The ultimate settlement.
- 9:06Speaker 3: That's that's how they settle it.
- 9:11Speaker 2: You get the cost of the sandwich plus the sandwich.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Now go away, all right exactly?
- 9:17Speaker 3: That that sounds fair. If I was I was on
- 9:19Speaker 3: the McDonald's team, I was like, that sounds.
- 9:21Speaker 2: About right, Like if you were one of the plaintiffs,
- 9:24Speaker 2: or if you were one of the plaintiffs attorneys.
- 9:26Speaker 4: No, if I was, if I was on the if
- 9:28Speaker 4: I was one of the attorneys from McDonald's, I'd be like,
- 9:30Speaker 4: here's what we give them. Yeah, that's more of midfuck
- 9:39Speaker 4: what it is?
- 9:40Speaker 2: Women have been getting that for years.

- 12:06Speaker 2: news makers over the holidays was the finale of Stranger Things.
- 12:12Speaker 2: I watched it on New Year's Day. Watched it that,
- 12:16Speaker 2: you know, throughout the entirety of the holiday break, all
- 12:18Speaker 2: the volumes and again, and then that final episode on
- 12:21Speaker 2: New Year's Day. Raj, You've not seen a single episode.
- 12:24Speaker 2: All you know is that some kid talks through lights
- 12:26Speaker 2: and that's stupid. And then there's Trey Trey. Last time
- 12:29Speaker 2: you and I talked about it, you had not seen
- 12:31Speaker 2: the finale yet. You'd seen like the first half of
- 12:34Speaker 2: the final season, but not the finale. But then you
- 12:37Speaker 2: said you have now seen all of Stranger Things.
- 12:41Speaker 3: I have.
- 12:43Speaker 2: My first question to you is this, Before you watched
- 12:47Speaker 2: the finale, did you read or look at any social
- 12:50Speaker 2: media stuff going into it. Did you read any news stories,
- 12:53Speaker 2: read any fan theories about what people thought might happen
- 12:56Speaker 2: or what should happen.
- 13:00Speaker 1: I try to avoid them at all costs, so I
- 13:04Speaker 1: can't say I didn't see some questions, but I did
- 13:08Speaker 1: not read like I think. Probably the thing I read
- 13:15Speaker 1: that stuck with me is about the Duffer brothers saying
- 13:20Speaker 1: that you know, it's up to the viewers to in
- 13:25Speaker 1: their imagination to what actually happened with eleven.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Gotcha, Raj, I'm gonna speak to you for a moment.
- 13:35Speaker 2: And obviously anyone that has not seen any of Stranger Things,
- 13:39Speaker 2: it's a throwback nostalgia thing from the eighties, kids on
- 13:43Speaker 2: bicycles going around doing things which we all can identify with,
- 13:49Speaker 2: and you know when we were growing up. The difference
- 13:51Speaker 2: is being we didn't have other worldly monsters chasing us
- 13:55Speaker 2: and trying to kidnap us for various reasons. But the
- 13:59Speaker 2: rest of it's still it feels pretty familiar. So that's
- 14:03Speaker 2: what you dealt with for five seasons. And I made
- 14:06Speaker 2: the mistake of reading a bunch of the fan theory
- 14:09Speaker 2: stuff before the final episode. And this is what's difficult
- 14:14Speaker 2: with a series. Whether it's Game of Thrones, whether it's
- 14:19Speaker 2: name any other successful television series, and people are always
- 14:24Speaker 2: having issues with how they ended The Sopranos. I mean
- 14:29Speaker 2: it's never ending. Really. The New Heart Show, I remember
- 14:32Speaker 2: like it was Bob Newhart waking up, or it was
- 14:36Speaker 2: New Heart where he at Their last episode was Bob
- 14:39Speaker 2: Newhart waking up in bed next to his wife from
- 14:42Speaker 2: The Bob Newhart Show, which was a previous series he
- 14:44Speaker 2: worked on. Right, So, I mean there's all these different
- 14:47Speaker 2: ways to do a finale. I read so many fan
- 14:51Speaker 2: theories on what people thought was going to happen or
- 14:53Speaker 2: what they thought should happen that it left me kind
- 14:56Speaker 2: of feeling eh about the finale. Really yeah, and I
- 15:02Speaker 2: think I spoiled it. I think had they just released
- 15:06Speaker 2: that final episode as one big movie and not given
- 15:10Speaker 2: a week to breathe from the previous episode to the
- 15:15Speaker 2: actual finale episode, I think it would have served them better.
- 15:19Speaker 2: I think in that week there was such a vacuum
- 15:22Speaker 2: that people started filling the void with their own thoughts,
- 15:25Speaker 2: and I read some really good ones where I was like, Ooh,
- 15:29Speaker 2: that would be cool if that happened, and then those
- 15:32Speaker 2: things didn't happened. And they followed a more linear ending
- 15:35Speaker 2: kind of a thing. And now it seems that from
- 15:39Speaker 2: what I have seen, people are divided on whether they
- 15:41Speaker 2: loved it or they hated it. Me I was like,
- 15:44Speaker 2: it was okay, I liked it. I didn't hate it.
- 15:47Speaker 2: But that's kind of where I finished on it. What
- 15:49Speaker 2: about you, tre I thought it was fantastic.
- 15:53Speaker 1: I thought overall, for a final season of a show
- 15:59Speaker 1: that's been that popular, I thought they did a fantastic job.
- 16:03Speaker 1: I would put it probably a top ten of all
- 16:05Speaker 1: time of you know, the way to finish a show.
- 16:12Speaker 1: And I thought the last episode lived up to it.
- 16:20Speaker 1: I was very pleased. You I thought they had done
- 16:24Speaker 1: enough foreshadowing to know, here's a spoiler alert, uh that
- 16:29Speaker 1: you know Eleven wasn't coming back. You knew something was
- 16:32Speaker 1: going to happen to her. But then the way they
- 16:37Speaker 1: go back and revisit that at the end, when you know,
- 16:42Speaker 1: with the D and D game and talking about it,
- 16:46Speaker 1: I thought it left it excellent way of going maybe yeah,
- 16:52Speaker 1: uh so, I I thought that my Oh, I probably
- 16:58Speaker 1: my only complaint about the the last episode especially was
- 17:03Speaker 1: fucking Winona Ryders, you know, hacking his head off. Uh, yeah,
- 17:08Speaker 1: I've got let someone else do it.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Kind of felt like Will may have earned that. Yeah, yeah,
- 17:17Speaker 2: I will say after like after they had just beaten
- 17:19Speaker 2: the mind Flair and I, and they showed Joyce standing
- 17:22Speaker 2: there because they're all taking on the mind flare, and
- 17:25Speaker 2: then Joyce is standing there and she's got that axe
- 17:27Speaker 2: strapped to her back. It's like, was she ever planning
- 17:30Speaker 2: on using that thing? And then she eventually does, but
- 17:35Speaker 2: she got to say the big line and it was
- 17:37Speaker 2: sort of and then she got to be don't mess
- 17:39Speaker 2: with mama type of situation. So before we jump into
- 17:46Speaker 2: Raj laughing at us wholeheartedly, which thank you for laughing
- 17:50Speaker 2: quietly in the corner, Rash, I want to say this, Trey,
- 17:54Speaker 2: I am envious. I wish that I had ignored as
- 17:58Speaker 2: much as possible, as far as any fan in theories,
- 18:00Speaker 2: any ideas, any anything, and just gone from the previous episode,
- 18:06Speaker 2: not see anything, go straight into the final And I
- 18:08Speaker 2: think I would have felt the same way you do
- 18:10Speaker 2: because I allowed myself to go down too many rabbit
- 18:13Speaker 2: holes on theories. It kind of spoiled it a little
- 18:16Speaker 2: bit for me from the enjoyment. So what I'm going
- 18:17Speaker 2: to do is I'm going to rewatch it because there
- 18:20Speaker 2: were moments of it I absolutely loved, and just try
- 18:24Speaker 2: to rewatch it knowing what happens, and then just try
- 18:25Speaker 2: to enjoy it in the moment.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I especially with stuff like that, I really try to avoid.
- 18:33Speaker 1: I forgot what show people hyped up. It's like, oh
- 18:35Speaker 1: my god, it was so fantastic, And then by the
- 18:38Speaker 1: time I watched it, I was like, nah, So I
- 18:41Speaker 1: really tried to avoid reading anything about it, and yeah,
- 18:46Speaker 1: I thoroughly enjoyed it.
- 18:49Speaker 2: All right, Raj, what has you giggling over there?
- 18:51Speaker 7: Like a judgmental demogratic no, no, no, So growing up,
- 18:54Speaker 7: I was always the nerd, and now I get to
- 18:56Speaker 7: watch two nerds talk to each other and this it
- 19:00Speaker 7: was so joyful.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Like and that's why, you, guys, it's just just watch
- 19:05Speaker 2: the joy out of you.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Guys. You would love the show because it's a show
- 19:09Speaker 1: about nerds, and I got out of that phase. But
- 19:15Speaker 1: it's nostalgia, that's the whole thing.
- 19:18Speaker 2: It's nostalgia. And it's also a little bit about role
- 19:21Speaker 2: reversal in a way, it's flipping the script from what
- 19:24Speaker 2: you know you did as a kid versus what you
- 19:26Speaker 2: do as an adult, right, Trey, did you ever play
- 19:29Speaker 2: Dungeons and Dragons when you were a kid?
- 19:32Speaker 3: A little?
- 19:32Speaker 1: I did not have the patients for.
- 19:38Speaker 2: I didn't either. I didn't have any friends that had
- 19:41Speaker 2: it and played it. If they had, maybe I would
- 19:43Speaker 2: have betrayed you and I. We grew up playing lots
- 19:46Speaker 2: of sports, so that took up the bulk of our youths.
- 19:50Speaker 2: We were playing basketball and football and baseball and practicing
- 19:54Speaker 2: in games and tournaments instead of D and D tournaments. Then,
- 19:58Speaker 2: as adults, while we can still relate to a lot
- 20:01Speaker 2: of the activities as children of the eighties, we now
- 20:06Speaker 2: followed this what was, in essence a cinematic Dungeons and
- 20:10Speaker 2: Dragons quest from the eighties, and we loved it, even
- 20:13Speaker 2: though we really didn't play it as kids. So we
- 20:16Speaker 2: were Jocks's kids nerds as adults, Raj nerd kid. Keeping
- 20:21Speaker 2: in mind, Raj did play a little football, it's what
- 20:24Speaker 2: he's famous for, but mostly a nerd and now Raj
- 20:28Speaker 2: doesn't want to have anything to do with nerd stuff
- 20:31Speaker 2: as an adult.
- 20:31Speaker 4: Oh, I went to my I'm not going to say
- 20:34Speaker 4: his name, but I went to my buddy's house because
- 20:37Speaker 4: he invited me over and they were playing Dungeons Dragons
- 20:41Speaker 4: brand new. This is eighty seven eighty six and I
- 20:47Speaker 4: walked in and I was like, what is happening right now?
- 20:49Speaker 4: And they're like, oh, it's a role playing game. And
- 20:52Speaker 4: this is when I got out of my nerd phase.
- 20:55Speaker 4: I was like, I'm leaving because this is fucking stupid.
- 21:00Speaker 4: And that's when I was like, it's time to play
- 21:03Speaker 4: some football. It's time to get hit, and not for
- 21:09Speaker 4: being a nerd. It's just time to get hit. It's
- 21:12Speaker 4: just for being small and weak. Yeah, of course, good
- 21:16Speaker 4: old fashioned way.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Fuck.
- 21:18Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 21:18Speaker 3: I tried, but I saw it and I was like,
- 21:25Speaker 3: this is the dumbest thing I've ever seen.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Uh.
- 21:29Speaker 3: And somebody was like, you know, I'm a level nine magi,
- 21:32Speaker 3: and I'm like, get the stop. But I don't. I
- 21:35Speaker 3: don't care anymore.
- 21:36Speaker 4: I gotta leave your your Chris and you live with
- 21:40Speaker 4: your dad, like you're not a level nine anything like stop.
- 21:45Speaker 2: That's why he needs the game.
- 21:52Speaker 3: Somehow.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the only way he could be important and
- 21:55Speaker 2: level up in life is to play the game.
- 22:01Speaker 3: Yeah, so I was out immediately on that.
- 22:06Speaker 1: I'll also say one of the other things I thought
- 22:10Speaker 1: they did incredibly well, which was hard to do. Is
- 22:14Speaker 1: because that series what lasted ten years? Yeah?
- 22:18Speaker 2: Yeah, the span of ten years, Tony, Yeah, yeah, ten years.
- 22:22Speaker 1: The fact that they really seamlessly aged them where it
- 22:31Speaker 1: was still believable. They were still young enough you could
- 22:33Speaker 1: pull off, you know, high school seniors whatever.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:36Speaker 1: I thought all of it. I thought the really excellent job.
- 22:39Speaker 2: And that's why I said I want to go back.
- 22:41Speaker 4: Go ahead, Rush, Sorry, you said you would put it
- 22:43Speaker 4: in your top ten of finales.
- 22:47Speaker 3: M wow, that is bold.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:52Speaker 2: So again I'm envious that that you didn't do the
- 22:54Speaker 2: reading stuff in between, and that's why I want to
- 22:56Speaker 2: go back and rewatch it sort of. I mean, it's
- 22:59Speaker 2: not fresh eyes. I have already seen it, but just
- 23:02Speaker 2: watch it just to try to enjoy it more and
- 23:04Speaker 2: instead of thinking, oh, is this thing gonna happen that
- 23:06Speaker 2: may or may not happen, you know, I.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Want to go back and watch the entire I want
- 23:12Speaker 1: to go I want to start with season one. And
- 23:15Speaker 1: I'm kind of curious now if you pick up on it,
- 23:18Speaker 1: because now that I have read about it, you know,
- 23:20Speaker 1: people are saying, oh, they were Easter eggs left all
- 23:22Speaker 1: over the place, and now I'm curious if those stand out.
- 23:26Speaker 7: They will.
- 23:27Speaker 2: They're going to stand out like sore thumbs. They're gonna
- 23:29Speaker 2: stand out like Vechno's left thumb, because that's the that's
- 23:34Speaker 2: the I saw the rabbit holes I went down, and
- 23:36Speaker 2: I mean that literally figuratively, because season five was very
- 23:42Speaker 2: much an Alison Wonderland, you know, inspired thing. So going
- 23:48Speaker 2: down the rabbit hole is Alice in Wonderland. That's exactly
- 23:52Speaker 2: what this final season followed. It was a little bit
- 23:56Speaker 2: of a wrinkle in time, but a lot of Alice
- 23:58Speaker 2: in Wonderland. And so when you read and you see
- 24:00Speaker 2: certain things that happened in Alice in Wonderland, all those
- 24:03Speaker 2: things happen in Stranger Things five when you go back
- 24:06Speaker 2: and I also fell down the easter Egg rabbit hole,
- 24:11Speaker 2: you know in before the you know, in Vecna's little
- 24:15Speaker 2: layer in the other dimension with a little what looks
- 24:18Speaker 2: like a tree. I knew that. I always knew that
- 24:21Speaker 2: was the spider leg thing. But that was on a
- 24:24Speaker 2: poster all the way back in like season one, in
- 24:27Speaker 2: someone's bedroom, and you saw it over Mike and L's shoulder.
- 24:30Speaker 2: It's right there, that same effing bush slash tree thing
- 24:34Speaker 2: is right there. There's hints all over the damn place.
- 24:37Speaker 2: So yeah, when you go back and watch from season one,
- 24:40Speaker 2: there's at one point there's a freeze frame. I think
- 24:43Speaker 2: it's around when Will gets abducted or when they're in
- 24:46Speaker 2: the middle of like a dark street. Right you see Vecna's.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Big left hand.
- 24:53Speaker 2: So unless they went back and put that stuff in
- 24:55Speaker 2: there digitally after the fact, that stuff was in there
- 24:58Speaker 2: from day one.
- 24:59Speaker 1: See, that's a I've seen some of that stuff and
- 25:01Speaker 1: I always I wonder if that's just clickbait and they've
- 25:05Speaker 1: gone back and added that into an image.
- 25:07Speaker 2: That's what I would do, because that's also the reason
- 25:10Speaker 2: I'm going to double down on the nerd dimrage. That's
- 25:12Speaker 2: also what I think George Lucas did. Because George Lucas
- 25:14Speaker 2: says to this day that he had the entire whole
- 25:18Speaker 2: trilogy thing, the whole Vader Star Wars thing, mapped out
- 25:23Speaker 2: from what we know to be episode one through like
- 25:27Speaker 2: episode six, but he decided to do only episode four
- 25:31Speaker 2: because he thought that would be the standalone thing. I
- 25:33Speaker 2: think he's full of shit. I think what he did
- 25:36Speaker 2: was he wrote that movie and then he was like,
- 25:38Speaker 2: oh my god, this is bigger than I ever expected.
- 25:40Speaker 2: I'm kind of had a couple of ideas of where
- 25:41Speaker 2: this could go, and then he eventually said I had
- 25:43Speaker 2: this thing planned all alone. I just don't believe.
- 25:46Speaker 1: H Yeah, because they were books.

- 27:11Speaker 2: slash tree House on Air, Trey, when you said Star
- 27:14Speaker 2: Wars books, she meant that George Lucas did the movies
- 27:16Speaker 2: because someone had written books already. Okay, that's the thing
- 27:21Speaker 2: I always forget about that. I always remember like George
- 27:23Speaker 2: Lucas like, oh no, I had this idea and this
- 27:25Speaker 2: is what happened. And then I always felt like it
- 27:27Speaker 2: was just him being full of it, saying like, oh
- 27:29Speaker 2: I had this whole thing played, I just did this
- 27:30Speaker 2: one first. And that's when I wondered, if stranger Things
- 27:33Speaker 2: guys are doing the same thing. Oh, Vecna's been in
- 27:35Speaker 2: here all along, Hey, Tim, go put that hand back
- 27:37Speaker 2: in season one so they'll see it. Same thing with
- 27:39Speaker 2: like the little thing on the poster on the wall.
- 27:42Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Well, and that's why, Yeah, Star Wars there were always
- 27:48Speaker 1: nine books, like, and my understanding was Lucas picked the
- 27:52Speaker 1: fourth one because he thought it was the most adaptable
- 27:55Speaker 1: to film, and he's.
- 27:57Speaker 3: Right, it was.
- 27:57Speaker 2: I just thought that that was more like revisionist history,
- 28:01Speaker 2: where it was like he did the movie and then
- 28:03Speaker 2: there were some books and things, and he's like, ah see,
- 28:04Speaker 2: I told.
- 28:05Speaker 1: You now, they were always They're always there. That was
- 28:10Speaker 1: just one of those, you know, in on the.
- 28:16Speaker 7: No.
- 28:16Speaker 1: I guess that was the first one. I mean, I
- 28:18Speaker 1: guess he took a flyer on it, because then I
- 28:19Speaker 1: was to say, then Star Trek, you know, rebooted there,
- 28:22Speaker 1: you know, based on the success of uh Star Wars.
- 28:25Speaker 1: But uh No, what I was talking about is with
- 28:28Speaker 1: internet in today's a like, I see those things now
- 28:32Speaker 1: about oh hey, look, you know because I've seen now
- 28:34Speaker 1: that I've allowed myself, I've seen the finale and I've
- 28:37Speaker 1: now looked at the post are the are there is
- 28:41Speaker 1: that stuff actually in season one? Or have they gone
- 28:43Speaker 1: back and and edit it and added something in that
- 28:48Speaker 1: that makes it look that way?
- 28:50Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 28:50Speaker 2: See, And this is why I think my ultimate, my
- 28:53Speaker 2: only criticism is it can't okay, let me start over.
- 28:58Speaker 2: It's unfair to criticize creators filmmakers to this degree. When you,
- 29:08Speaker 2: as a viewer or a watch or whatever, didn't like
- 29:11Speaker 2: the way something happened, that's just too effing bad. That's
- 29:16Speaker 2: not your decision to make, you know why, It's actually
- 29:20Speaker 2: not your story. It's those guys' story. They're the ones
- 29:24Speaker 2: that wrote it. They're the ones that came up with
- 29:26Speaker 2: the idea. They're the ones that put in the work,
- 29:28Speaker 2: the effort to design it, the concept, the story, all
- 29:31Speaker 2: the character arcs, all of it. You cannot like how
- 29:35Speaker 2: they finished it all day long. It's not going to
- 29:39Speaker 2: change the outcome. And where I the only critique that
- 29:44Speaker 2: I would offer, not that they would ever come to
- 29:46Speaker 2: me and ask, is not to have that week off
- 29:50Speaker 2: in that final episode for people to then, you know,
- 29:54Speaker 2: set certain expectations, drum up certain theories or whatever, just
- 30:00Speaker 2: the thing out and let people just consume it like
- 30:03Speaker 2: a movie does. And then that way they don't have
- 30:05Speaker 2: time to think about what could have been or what
- 30:09Speaker 2: might be. Instead they just take it for what is.
- 30:12Speaker 2: I think if they had done that, I think they
- 30:16Speaker 2: wouldn't have near the issues with anyone nay saying the finale.
- 30:21Speaker 2: I think they go like, here's the movie boom, here's
- 30:23Speaker 2: the show boom, and you don't have time to think
- 30:26Speaker 2: about those other things. And I think they would have
- 30:27Speaker 2: been better off as far as public opinion goes or not.
- 30:31Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 30:33Speaker 4: Well, I mean the way you guys are talking about this.
- 30:35Speaker 4: I'm gonna start watching today. I'm gonna start watching the show.
- 30:41Speaker 2: You might love it. I mean, look, I've lost to
- 30:44Speaker 2: you completely.
- 30:45Speaker 3: I'm lying to you completely. I'm not going to for
- 30:47Speaker 3: this show at all.
- 30:50Speaker 2: What else are you gonna do on your next emergency
- 30:52Speaker 2: room visit?
- 30:55Speaker 3: They had NCIS on. It was great.
- 30:57Speaker 2: Roger. Here's the thing. There are lots of those bleeds
- 31:00Speaker 2: in stranger things. It's immediately relatable to you in your
- 31:03Speaker 2: current medical plight.
- 31:08Speaker 3: I'd rather watch Mark Harmon.
- 31:16Speaker 1: I think I disagree with you, Dan. I think that
- 31:21Speaker 1: you're always going to have the people in this day
- 31:24Speaker 1: and age, everyone's going to pick it apart no matter
- 31:26Speaker 1: what you do. And I actually I thought it was
- 31:30Speaker 1: It was brilliant the way they released it, because, especially
- 31:36Speaker 1: between the Christmas Day drop and then the New Year's
- 31:40Speaker 1: New Year's Eve drop Year's it gave you just enough
- 31:44Speaker 1: time to watch. And for some reason, the Internet does
- 31:49Speaker 1: seem to be good about at least giving things about
- 31:53Speaker 1: forty eight seventy two hours before they just literate with spoilers.
- 31:57Speaker 2: That is one of the few things that people on
- 31:59Speaker 2: the inner that have kind of come together on is
- 32:03Speaker 2: I'm not going to be the dick that spoils this
- 32:05Speaker 2: thing for everybody because if I do, I get docked,
- 32:08Speaker 2: I get death threats, I can't go outside anymore kind
- 32:11Speaker 2: of thing. So in that way, the Internet also remains undefeated.
- 32:17Speaker 2: But you are right. What happens when you delay that
- 32:21Speaker 2: final release for that week is you do create that
- 32:25Speaker 2: vacuum and there's no conclusion to the stories, so people
- 32:28Speaker 2: start coming up with their own stuff and sharing it.
- 32:31Speaker 2: So the amount of buzz and everything going into that
- 32:35Speaker 2: final episode is then amplified. So if you want to
- 32:40Speaker 2: deal with backlash, then have the gap. If you want
- 32:47Speaker 2: to capitalize on virality of it being talked about being
- 32:53Speaker 2: in the public consciousness for an entire week, then have
- 32:58Speaker 2: the gap. So it's like a it's an interesting case
- 33:01Speaker 2: study to see how you would want to do, you know,
- 33:04Speaker 2: a finale type of thing like this.
- 33:07Speaker 4: But it also speaks volumes about how how the fans
- 33:11Speaker 4: feel about that show that they're doing that.
- 33:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I tell you, man, there were some really good ideas,
- 33:19Speaker 2: and that's going to be the worst thing as a creator.
- 33:21Speaker 2: Like if I'm one of the Duffer brothers and I
- 33:22Speaker 2: read one of these ideas and like, fuck, that's better
- 33:25Speaker 2: than what we did. I wish we had Tim from
- 33:29Speaker 2: Indiana in the writer's.
- 33:31Speaker 4: Room, yeah, which I love, like the sopranos and friends
- 33:37Speaker 4: and all that stuff. Like, everybody had their own ideas.
- 33:40Speaker 4: Friends luckily was at the beginning of the Internet age
- 33:44Speaker 4: when that started. But everybody had their own ideas of
- 33:47Speaker 4: what was going to happen because there were such huge
- 33:49Speaker 4: fans of the show. So that's always nice. So you
- 33:53Speaker 4: know how important your show is to some people.
- 33:59Speaker 2: You're really not going to watch shuck non.
- 34:09Speaker 1: I would be more surprised by Raj voting for Trump
- 34:14Speaker 1: that I would be by him watching Stranger Things. I'm sorry,
- 34:21Speaker 1: I would be more surprised than voting for Trump.
- 34:26Speaker 3: I'm gonna start watching Stranger Things now because.
- 34:35Speaker 2: It's funny you mentioned that, because I think the US
- 34:37Speaker 2: military has a great sense of humor. Because is it
- 34:40Speaker 2: just me? Or that photo they released of Nicholas Maduro,
- 34:43Speaker 2: was he ready to go in into a tank just
- 34:45Speaker 2: like eleven from Stranger Things with the goggles in the
- 34:47Speaker 2: ear mubs he had beats by drey d That was dope.
- 34:56Speaker 2: I think those are bombs. It's the new it's the
- 34:58Speaker 2: new model.
- 35:02Speaker 1: I like to think they were looping that his speech
- 35:04Speaker 1: where he said come and get him.
- 35:05Speaker 2: You know it, you know cause is good. Yeah, you
- 35:12Speaker 2: still got to listen to the lyrics, bro.
- 35:16Speaker 1: They might even drop bombs and sequence just to give
- 35:18Speaker 1: it a good baseline.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Over bag Dad. Three House. Go to three House on
