- 2:15Speaker 3: We talked to Sean about that. Plus your calls and
- 2:17Speaker 3: text are welcome to I want to start through by

- 2:23Speaker 3: point five FM, one oh four point five FM and
- 2:25Speaker 3: five to eighty, as well as the WCHS network we
- 2:28Speaker 3: have got online. I should say, the dot com thing.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Hurricane Redskins at home to take on Caboll Middle and
- 2:33Speaker 3: Chris Lawrence near Parker will have coverage of that game.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Chris joins us. Now, Chris is good morning.
- 2:38Speaker 5: Good morning. It's good to be back in the saddle.
- 2:39Speaker 5: I actually was out a couple of days this week,
- 2:41Speaker 5: and I was trying to get things done from where
- 2:44Speaker 5: I was located, dealing with some family issues, and I
- 2:48Speaker 5: repeatedly text the Cabole Middland Athletic director like we'd like
- 2:51Speaker 5: to come down and do the game, and he finally
- 2:52Speaker 5: texts me back. He goes, dude, it's at Hurricane. I went, okay,
- 2:56Speaker 5: I knew that. So yes, we are at Redskins Stadium
- 2:59Speaker 5: to night kick off at seven thirty. Will be on
- 3:02Speaker 5: the air at seven o'clock. Cable Midland comes into this
- 3:04Speaker 5: game three Hungary for their first win of the year.
- 3:07Speaker 5: Probably not the year that that Knights fans are used
- 3:10Speaker 5: to because you know, normally they're the bulldozer that's reckon
- 3:13Speaker 5: everybody's season. Hurricane, probably Phils. It's very very rare that
- 3:19Speaker 5: you score sixty three and lose, which is exactly what
- 3:22Speaker 5: happened on the road at DeWitt Michigan. Lansing, Michigan is
- 3:25Speaker 5: where they went for the last week's game.
- 3:27Speaker 3: I mean, you know, that's what you call a road game.
- 3:29Speaker 5: That is that is quite a road trip.
- 3:31Speaker 3: But I saw that final score, I thought, well, maybe
- 3:33Speaker 3: they got up there and decided to play basketball instead.
- 3:35Speaker 3: I was thinking maybe.
- 3:36Speaker 5: I was thinking maybe they went and they left the
- 3:37Speaker 5: defense back in Hurricane or something. But evidently what was
- 3:41Speaker 5: going on there, there was some special teams breakdowns there
- 3:43Speaker 5: that need to be corrected, and that will I'm sure
- 3:47Speaker 5: they've addressed that this week, so that'll be something to
- 3:49Speaker 5: keep an eye on tonight. One of the storylines of
- 3:51Speaker 5: the game this evening, as Hurricane takes on Cable Midland
- 3:54Speaker 5: in a rivalry that dates back not too many years,
- 3:57Speaker 5: but these two teams have played every year since Cable Mide.
- 4:00Speaker 5: It's been a school and it's been a pretty evenly
- 4:02Speaker 5: matched series over the course of time.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Indeed, and again we'll have covered starting.
- 4:06Speaker 5: That's seven o'clock will be on the air and seven
- 4:09Speaker 5: thirty is the kickoff.
- 4:10Speaker 3: And of course after the game, stick around for Dave
- 4:12Speaker 3: Jaqueline fred Pertz singer with all the scores from around
- 4:14Speaker 3: the state of West Virginia. I know all the schools
- 4:17Speaker 3: are going to be watching the weather. There's been a
- 4:19Speaker 3: little bit of a change because initially they said they're
- 4:21Speaker 3: going to be playing in a whole lot of rain.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Looks like now from what I'm saying, this is probably
- 4:26Speaker 3: it's going to wind down a little bit by these
- 4:28Speaker 3: high school game nights. Yeah, I don't think.
- 4:29Speaker 5: I don't think it's going to be at you know,
- 4:31Speaker 5: at you know, the level where it's going to be miserable.
- 4:34Speaker 5: I think there might be a little bit of rain,
- 4:36Speaker 5: but I think wind might impact some things because the
- 4:39Speaker 5: wind is an issue, and certainly that can impact a
- 4:42Speaker 5: team that likes to throw it, so keep that in
- 4:43Speaker 5: mind as well.
- 4:44Speaker 3: All right, what do we have on Western now Doors
- 4:46Speaker 3: tomorrow morning?
- 4:46Speaker 6: Tomorrow?
- 4:47Speaker 5: It is the layout of the twenty twenty four Masted
- 4:49Speaker 5: survey that E and R does this every year to
- 4:52Speaker 5: inventory the wildlife food sources for the coming year. And
- 4:55Speaker 5: of course archery season opens up this weekend, so a
- 4:59Speaker 5: very big deal where you're I'm down in the one
- 5:00Speaker 5: of the archery only counties, Logan County, so we will
- 5:03Speaker 5: we'll lay out the information from the masted survey in
- 5:07Speaker 5: tomorrow's I.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Know you'll appreciate this. I'm going to get real quick
- 5:10Speaker 3: before I let you go. The story that happened. I
- 5:12Speaker 3: think it was one week ago today that there was
- 5:16Speaker 3: the school I think it was the Sharon Dawes Elementary
- 5:18Speaker 3: School at Cabin Creek. They dismissed because all the school,
- 5:22Speaker 3: you know, there's all this noise going on about the
- 5:24Speaker 3: school shootings and whatever, and it just happened to be
- 5:28Speaker 3: this particular a situation. A gentleman was squirrel hunting way
- 5:32Speaker 3: too close to the school. And I told the listeners this,
- 5:34Speaker 3: I said, as a kid of the nineteen seventies, boys
- 5:37Speaker 3: in our class and some probably some girls too, brought
- 5:40Speaker 3: their guns to school, put them in their lockers, and
- 5:43Speaker 3: then went went out and went squirrel hunting at three
- 5:46Speaker 3: five or three point fifteen, as did I, not today,
- 5:50Speaker 3: as did I. We actually we used to come to school.
- 5:54Speaker 3: I would go squirrel hunting before school. I'd be out
- 5:57Speaker 3: there at daylight, and then I would show up at
- 5:59Speaker 3: whenever the school started, seven thirty forty five something like that,
- 6:03Speaker 3: generally late. But the one thing that our principal recognized
- 6:07Speaker 3: the situation and said, look, I don't want a bunch
- 6:10Speaker 3: of shotguns in the backs of pickup trucks.
- 6:13Speaker 5: Bring them to my office. So we would carry uncased
- 6:16Speaker 5: firearms through the front door, down the hall and set
- 6:19Speaker 5: them in the principal's office, which looked like it looked
- 6:22Speaker 5: like the back wall at spring Hill rod and gun.
- 6:25Speaker 5: By the time lunchtime rolled around different times. Man, it
- 6:28Speaker 5: was when I tell people that story, they simply cannot
- 6:31Speaker 5: believe it. But it's the God's honest trip.
- 6:34Speaker 3: I know the same thing, all right, Chris, I appreciate it, man,
- 6:36Speaker 3: Thanks everybody. Let's move to Tom Bragg, who, along with
- 6:39Speaker 3: Matt Murphy, will be doing the Huskies game against Cistinville tonight,
- 6:43Speaker 3: big rivalry game tonight, Tom Bragg, good morning, Welcome to
- 6:46Speaker 3: the show.
- 6:47Speaker 6: Hi Dave, how are you guys doing this morning?
- 6:49Speaker 3: Doing good? I got your cohort in there. He's producing
- 6:51Speaker 3: the show today. Matt Murphy feverishly working away on game
- 6:56Speaker 3: prep while he's doing that. All right, So we'll have
- 6:58Speaker 3: the Hurricane and Caboll midle game on WCCHS and then
- 7:01Speaker 3: over on our sister station ninety six to one KWS.
- 7:04Speaker 3: You guys have got the Huskies in Systemville. This should
- 7:07Speaker 3: be a good one.
- 7:08Speaker 6: You know, it's an old rivalry. These are two programs
- 7:11Speaker 6: geographically located pretty close to each other. They've they've kind
- 7:15Speaker 6: of been grouped in that same like middle tier of
- 7:17Speaker 6: the classifications for years. Long time Double A teams, they've
- 7:20Speaker 6: been in the Cardinal Conference together for a long time.
- 7:22Speaker 6: These teams, these kids, they know each other. They've been
- 7:25Speaker 6: playing each other in things since they were three and
- 7:27Speaker 6: four years old. And I expect a hard fought game tonight.
- 7:30Speaker 6: Times have been tough for Sistmville football the last couple
- 7:33Speaker 6: of years, and it hasn't been as tough for Herbert Hoover.
- 7:36Speaker 6: The Huskies have things going pretty well right now, come
- 7:38Speaker 6: into this game three and zero off of a bye week.
- 7:41Speaker 6: Last time out dramatic win down at Nitro, Dane Hatfield
- 7:44Speaker 6: bust a quarterback keeper in overtime to win it. And
- 7:47Speaker 6: for Sissomville last time out, Clay County hung sixty eight
- 7:50Speaker 6: points on him last week. So defense could be an
- 7:54Speaker 6: issue for the Indians tonight with what Herbert Hoover has
- 7:57Speaker 6: to offer. And the Huskies aren't just all one guy.
- 8:00Speaker 6: It's not just quarterback Dane Hatfield. They've had a pretty
- 8:02Speaker 6: good running back in Blake Fisher two. So, like I said, Dave,
- 8:06Speaker 6: it's just it's been tough times for Assistanmville football the
- 8:08Speaker 6: last couple of years. Hoover kind of has it rolling
- 8:10Speaker 6: right now. Could be could be tough tasks for the
- 8:12Speaker 6: Indians tonight.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Well, of course that's why they play the games, as
- 8:15Speaker 3: they say, and this is this is a rivalry. And
- 8:17Speaker 3: as Chris and I talked about, weather could be a
- 8:20Speaker 3: factor maybe win more so than rain. And so when
- 8:23Speaker 3: when it gets wendy out there, you never know what
- 8:25Speaker 3: will happen.
- 8:27Speaker 6: Yeah, wind, and even if it's not like actively raining
- 8:29Speaker 6: or pouring, it's still gonna be damp. It's going to
- 8:31Speaker 6: be slick out there, and crazy things happen when the
- 8:34Speaker 6: one the ball gets a little bit damp. As we've
- 8:36Speaker 6: all seen those games where you think, oh, man, this
- 8:38Speaker 6: team's got it in the bag, and then a couple
- 8:40Speaker 6: of turnovers, a fumble here, maybe an interception here, and
- 8:43Speaker 6: things go sideways for him. So whover needs to be
- 8:46Speaker 6: on guard for that tonight. On paper, it looks like
- 8:48Speaker 6: they should should have a pretty easy time with Systemville.
- 8:51Speaker 6: But like you said, that's why the games are played
- 8:53Speaker 6: on the field and not on paper. It'll be interesting
- 8:55Speaker 6: for sure.
- 8:56Speaker 3: And our coverage begins at.
- 8:58Speaker 6: We'll be onto the air at about six tonight.
- 9:00Speaker 3: All right, that'll be in our sister station ninety six
- 9:02Speaker 3: one KWS. You'r home for the Huskies all season long. Tom,
- 9:06Speaker 3: you and Matt have a good broadcast tonight. I appreciate it, Man,
- 9:08Speaker 3: thanks a lot.
- 9:08Speaker 6: All right, Thanks Dave, We'll talk next week.

- 9:24Speaker 3: DoPT Me Please pet of the Week from the Canal
- 9:26Speaker 3: Charleston New Main Association. Hannah, good morning, welcome to the show.
- 9:29Speaker 7: Good morning, how are you.
- 9:31Speaker 3: I'm doing fine. Let's get right to our pet of
- 9:34Speaker 3: the week has always picture posted to Dave Allen Radio
- 9:37Speaker 3: on Facebook and on the Twitter page at Dave A
- 9:40Speaker 3: seventy as well. The Story of Jumanji tell us all
- 9:43Speaker 3: about Jumanji all right.
- 9:46Speaker 7: So he was actually a surrender to us due to
- 9:50Speaker 7: no fault of his own. He is a very very
- 9:53Speaker 7: sweet boy. He's very social, he's very friendly, love people.
- 9:59Speaker 7: He definitely is not fixed yet, but he will be.
- 10:04Speaker 7: And he is a male. Of course, he's about one
- 10:08Speaker 7: year old, and we go by the guns in their teeth,
- 10:11Speaker 7: so it could be a little bit different, could be
- 10:13Speaker 7: a little older, a little less or a little younger.
- 10:16Speaker 7: And then he does pull on the leash sometimes, but
- 10:20Speaker 7: with some proper training and working with him, he could
- 10:23Speaker 7: get a lot better at that. He does have a
- 10:25Speaker 7: lot of energy, so that could sim from you know
- 10:28Speaker 7: him or not sim from but that could just make
- 10:31Speaker 7: him want to pull on that leash. So working with
- 10:35Speaker 7: him and getting his energy out all of that would
- 10:38Speaker 7: be a great, great idea for him. He would be
- 10:40Speaker 7: a good family dog.
- 10:41Speaker 8: I would say.
- 10:43Speaker 7: He has shown to do good with kids in our care.
- 10:47Speaker 7: Of course, we always advise caution, no matter how friendly
- 10:50Speaker 7: we say that we've seen them with kids, just because
- 10:53Speaker 7: you never want to take that risk or that chance.
- 10:55Speaker 7: You always want to be careful. But he's a very
- 10:58Speaker 7: very sweet boy, and he is around forty one pounds.
- 11:01Speaker 8: So he's fully grown.
- 11:03Speaker 7: He's not really going to get any bigger unless he
- 11:05Speaker 7: gets bigger like weight wise, not really like size.
- 11:09Speaker 3: It happens to the best of us, Hannah, just say
- 11:11Speaker 3: it happens to the best of us.
- 11:13Speaker 7: Yeah, uh huh exactly. But he's he's a very very
- 11:16Speaker 7: sweet boy, and he's looking for his forever home. And
- 11:19Speaker 7: he definitely, I would say, would benefit from a family
- 11:23Speaker 7: that maybe has more like outdoor time where he can
- 11:26Speaker 7: run around and play with toys stuff like that.
- 11:29Speaker 3: All right, we'll get back and review Jumanji here in
- 11:32Speaker 3: a couple of moments. I saw your post yesterday. You
- 11:35Speaker 3: guys are pretty much at critical levels now, Hannah, as
- 11:38Speaker 3: far as your space at the shelter goes, I mean
- 11:40Speaker 3: you've got dogs and cats just about every every available
- 11:43Speaker 3: room in that building, is that right?
- 11:46Speaker 8: Yes, I believe we had about two sixty nine two
- 11:51Speaker 8: seventy dogs, and that's just in animals care in general,
- 11:57Speaker 8: so that's foster homes and in the shelter, and I
- 12:01Speaker 8: believe we have around one ninety under.
- 12:03Speaker 7: The shelter housing. And then of course we have more
- 12:08Speaker 7: and like better in stray Hold. We have more and
- 12:12Speaker 7: foster more everywhere, pretty much off the bathrooms everywhere. Again,
- 12:17Speaker 7: so we are doing the special where all the candle dogs,
- 12:21Speaker 7: the adult kendle dogs are zero dollars to adopt, and
- 12:23Speaker 7: then all other animals are twenty dollars right now, So
- 12:27Speaker 7: definitely come take advantage of that. If you can't adopt, foster,
- 12:30Speaker 7: if you can't foster, donate, volunteer, anything you can do
- 12:34Speaker 7: to help out. We would appreciate it very very much.
- 12:37Speaker 3: And of course you're always in need, as we said,
- 12:39Speaker 3: as you just kind of mentioned there, cat litter, towels,
- 12:42Speaker 3: paper towels, food. When you got this many animals, Hannah,
- 12:45Speaker 3: it does not take long to delete the inventory.
- 12:49Speaker 7: No, it's definitely goes very very very fast. I know
- 12:52Speaker 7: that we are in need of being a dog chow, kitten, chow,
- 12:56Speaker 7: wet fooit of any kind, puppy chow. Of course, we're
- 12:59Speaker 7: always is in need of the used Lindens if anybody
- 13:03Speaker 7: has any and cleaning splos longerarge it really everything right now.
- 13:06Speaker 3: We're kind of in need of all right, all right, Well,
- 13:09Speaker 3: hopefully our listeners have always come through in the past,
- 13:12Speaker 3: whether it's adopting or or donations or whatever. Appreciate it.
- 13:16Speaker 3: Thank you very much, and we'll talk again next week.
- 13:19Speaker 7: All right, we'll see either.
- 13:21Speaker 3: Nine to twenty again. The pets this week is Jumanji,
- 13:24Speaker 3: one year old male, not fixed yet but will be.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Was surrendered to the shelter, we understand due to no fault.
- 13:30Speaker 9: Of his own.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Seems to be a very social dog. We'll probably do
- 13:33Speaker 3: better with calmer dogs. Seems to do well around kids,
- 13:37Speaker 3: but his Hannah always says, we do advise caution. Dog's
- 13:39Speaker 3: around forty one pounds, so it's probably not going to
- 13:41Speaker 3: get a whole lot bigger unless he gets fatter. Like
- 13:43Speaker 3: I said, it happens to the best of us. Does
- 13:45Speaker 3: pull slightly on a leash, so you know, it may
- 13:48Speaker 3: take a little bit of training, but Jumanji would be
- 13:50Speaker 3: a great, great pet. And I've got his picture posted
- 13:53Speaker 3: on my social media's Dave out on radio or you
- 13:55Speaker 3: can check it out on at Dave a seventy on Twitter.

- 17:41Speaker 3: down from Sean on that. But I want to welcome
- 17:43Speaker 3: in now a good friend from Bridge Valley, doctor Casey Sachs.
- 17:45Speaker 11: Good morning, Dave, good morning.
- 17:47Speaker 12: Great to be with you today, Thank.
- 17:49Speaker 3: You for being here. I want to get right into it.
- 17:51Speaker 3: I want to talk about this as send program that
- 17:53Speaker 3: you have at Bridge Valley. You've had quite the success
- 17:58Speaker 3: with it, and people are starting to notice it. Ex
- 18:00Speaker 3: the program. To explain what I mean by people are
- 18:02Speaker 3: starting to notice it.
- 18:03Speaker 12: Yeah, So the ASCEND program has been our attempt to
- 18:07Speaker 12: try and give students supports so that they can be
- 18:09Speaker 12: more successful on campus. We saw that it happened in
- 18:12Speaker 12: a couple other states and wanted to replicate it here
- 18:14Speaker 12: in West Virginia, so we got some grants to be
- 18:17Speaker 12: able to pay for it, and essentially we offer case
- 18:20Speaker 12: management to students. We require certain things from them were
- 18:24Speaker 12: they keep their grades up and come talk to their advisor,
- 18:26Speaker 12: and that they go to mandatory tutoring. And in exchange
- 18:29Speaker 12: for those required things, we give them stuff like gas cards,
- 18:33Speaker 12: support with childcare. If they have a flat tire, we
- 18:36Speaker 12: want to help get that fixed because we've seen that
- 18:38Speaker 12: students could just be a flat tire away from having
- 18:41Speaker 12: to drop out of school. So it's been really important
- 18:43Speaker 12: to help give them the things they need so that
- 18:45Speaker 12: they don't drop out of school and as a result,
- 18:48Speaker 12: we've seen that our ascend students are staying at twenty
- 18:51Speaker 12: percent better than students who aren't receiving those financial supports.
- 18:55Speaker 3: We talked when You're on the show a lot about
- 18:58Speaker 3: the nursing programs at Bridge Valley. I know applications are
- 19:03Speaker 3: now available, I guess for the spring semester, or they
- 19:05Speaker 3: will be soon.
- 19:06Speaker 11: Is that right?
- 19:06Speaker 6: They're out right now.
- 19:07Speaker 12: Folks have already started to turn their stuff in. But
- 19:09Speaker 12: if you've decided that you're ready to change your life
- 19:12Speaker 12: and you want to be a nurse, turn in your
- 19:13Speaker 12: application for the spring right now.
- 19:15Speaker 3: And talk about the need for nurses in West Virginia.
- 19:18Speaker 3: I mean, you know, we talk about it all the time.
- 19:20Speaker 3: We have the oldest state as far as our average
- 19:24Speaker 3: population goes, and unfortunately a lot of our young people
- 19:29Speaker 3: are leaving after high school or maybe when they after
- 19:31Speaker 3: you know, some sort of post high school education. We're
- 19:34Speaker 3: trying to get them back. So you put those together,
- 19:36Speaker 3: Doctor Saxson, is kind of like the perfect storm for
- 19:38Speaker 3: a big time need for nurses and other folks in
- 19:41Speaker 3: the medical community. In West Virginia.
- 19:43Speaker 12: All kinds of medical professions are needed. So even if
- 19:46Speaker 12: you decide nursing maybe isn't your thing and you'd rather
- 19:48Speaker 12: look in a microscope. We need those people too. I
- 19:52Speaker 12: was just talking to a friend at WVU Medicine who
- 19:54Speaker 12: was saying that we still have nineteen percent more job
- 19:58Speaker 12: openings than anybody else, that we really have this tremendous
- 20:01Speaker 12: need in healthcare professionals, and that anything we can do
- 20:04Speaker 12: to help fill those gaps is going to be necessary
- 20:07Speaker 12: for the next twenty years in the labor market. So
- 20:09Speaker 12: it's a good job today and it's a good job
- 20:11Speaker 12: for the sustainable future.
- 20:13Speaker 3: I want to address something that we had actually have
- 20:15Speaker 3: a text here for you as well. You're getting quite popular.
- 20:17Speaker 3: You have your own text waiting on you when you
- 20:19Speaker 3: get here. How cold is that. But last time we
- 20:22Speaker 3: had you on the show, somebody texted in and you
- 20:24Speaker 3: had already I think, hung up with us. But you
- 20:27Speaker 3: were able to answer the program, answer the question I
- 20:29Speaker 3: should say, and I got the answer out. But the
- 20:31Speaker 3: question was somebody wanted to know, is there an opportunity
- 20:34Speaker 3: at some point, with the success of Bridge Valley for
- 20:38Speaker 3: the college to one day have athletic programs. That's not
- 20:42Speaker 3: going to happen. And you explained to me via text,
- 20:44Speaker 3: which I then explained to the listeners, but why is
- 20:47Speaker 3: that not going to happen?
- 20:48Speaker 12: So sadly, state code actually prohibits community and technical colleges
- 20:52Speaker 12: from fielding sports teams.
- 20:54Speaker 3: So that's it. It would just have to be changed, right,
- 20:57Speaker 3: then we could see the Bridge Valley. What would the
- 20:58Speaker 3: nickname of Bridge Valley?
- 21:00Speaker 12: Our icon is the Pathfinders.
- 21:04Speaker 3: The Pathfinders our students.
- 21:06Speaker 12: Actually last year, our students talked about if they wanted
- 21:09Speaker 12: to be to have something different or if they wanted
- 21:11Speaker 12: the pathfinder to be a specific animal, but they hadn't
- 21:13Speaker 12: landed on anything yet, so that would really be up
- 21:15Speaker 12: to our student government to make a decision about if
- 21:18Speaker 12: they wanted something different.
- 21:19Speaker 3: Well, all right, we'll give them a project. Then how's that?
- 21:22Speaker 12: They're a pretty great group.
- 21:24Speaker 3: Somebody texted the show and said about something you said earlier,
- 21:27Speaker 3: and they said, when you say grants, are those tax
- 21:30Speaker 3: dollars sometimes?
- 21:32Speaker 12: So grants come from all kinds of different sources. There's
- 21:35Speaker 12: federal grants, which yes, are federal tax dollars at work,
- 21:39Speaker 12: State grants that are state tax dollars at work, and
- 21:42Speaker 12: then there are foundation grants that are private philanthropy that
- 21:45Speaker 12: people have decided to dedicate towards the school.
- 21:48Speaker 3: Okay, question answered, I know Bridge Valley recently picked up
- 21:52Speaker 3: a three million dollar award for an industrial assessment center.
- 21:56Speaker 3: How did that come about and what will it be
- 21:57Speaker 3: used for?
- 21:58Speaker 8: We did so.
- 21:59Speaker 12: The United States Department of Energy did a a request
- 22:03Speaker 12: for proposals where they said, we're looking for community colleges
- 22:06Speaker 12: in particular that can help expand the manufacturing employment base
- 22:10Speaker 12: and support manufacturing employers in their area. So we got
- 22:13Speaker 12: together with Blue Ridge Community and Technical College that's out
- 22:17Speaker 12: in the east and with WVU and together wrote an
- 22:20Speaker 12: award for three million dollars that was chosen to help
- 22:24Speaker 12: expand manufacturing right here in West Virginia.
- 22:26Speaker 3: And that's certainly certainly needed. Talking to doctor Casey Sacksbridge

- 23:06Speaker 12: build a contraption that'll protect a pumpkin from a two
- 23:09Speaker 12: or three story fall. And so it's a lot of
- 23:12Speaker 12: fun to see different schools come out from all over
- 23:14Speaker 12: the region and what their students have engineered and put together,
- 23:17Speaker 12: and then they work with our engineering faculty and they
- 23:21Speaker 12: win awards. It's just it's a good time.
- 23:23Speaker 3: And I will mention, as I did last time you're
- 23:25Speaker 3: on that our own Steve Animal from our sister station
- 23:27Speaker 3: nine eight seven, a mountain, wild and wonderful classic rock,
- 23:30Speaker 3: will be serving as your MC that day. Now you
- 23:33Speaker 3: guys are doing it for scientific aspects. I think Animal
- 23:35Speaker 3: just likes to see stuff break.
- 23:37Speaker 12: I'll go with whatever gets you there.
- 23:40Speaker 3: He's gonna he always has a good time with it.
- 23:42Speaker 3: And even before he started working with us here, I
- 23:44Speaker 3: talked to Steve, and I of course known each other forever,
- 23:46Speaker 3: and he always looked forward to it. He always said
- 23:49Speaker 3: that he loves being there for the pumpkin drop.
- 23:52Speaker 12: It's really fun to see what the kids put together
- 23:54Speaker 12: and how excited some of them are when they're pumpkin
- 23:56Speaker 12: braces or doesn't break and their parents come. It's really
- 23:59Speaker 12: a good family act.
- 24:00Speaker 3: I mean you how many different schools and different students
- 24:03Speaker 3: do you have out there? I mean, because because don't
- 24:04Speaker 3: you bring in other schools as well? I mean like
- 24:06Speaker 3: public schools.
- 24:07Speaker 10: That's right, that's the goal.
- 24:08Speaker 3: That's the goal.
- 24:09Speaker 12: Yeah, to help kids from public stools all over the region.
- 24:13Speaker 12: And so it just it kind of depends on the year,
- 24:15Speaker 12: but we average fifty or sixty different groups of kids
- 24:18Speaker 12: who come in and build pumpkins and drop them.
- 24:20Speaker 3: That's a lot of schools. Luckily, you've got a huge
- 24:23Speaker 3: campus up there to get those buses up there.
- 24:25Speaker 12: Well, and we don't do it here. We do it.
- 24:27Speaker 12: It's the ballpark.
- 24:27Speaker 3: Oh that's right, So I forgot about that year. It's

- 29:52Speaker 3: Before we get to the final decisions that were made
- 29:55Speaker 3: by the board yesterday, what was it, and you've been
- 29:58Speaker 3: on the show talking about this in the pass what
- 30:00Speaker 3: was it that led to all this, the public meetings,
- 30:02Speaker 3: all the tough decisions that had to be made. Why
- 30:06Speaker 3: was Kart looking and making changes at all?
- 30:08Speaker 16: Sure, So, the simplest way to explain this is to
- 30:11Speaker 16: balance a budget. We have a responsibility to the taxpayers
- 30:15Speaker 16: of Kanah County to balance our budget, and we've noticed
- 30:17Speaker 16: over the last couple of years that as our service
- 30:19Speaker 16: has grown, the expenses associated with that service has also grown,
- 30:24Speaker 16: and your dollar doesn't go as far today as it
- 30:26Speaker 16: went yesterday, and so as those costs continue to go up,
- 30:30Speaker 16: we had to look at our system and say, Okay,
- 30:31Speaker 16: what's working, what's not working? How can we make the
- 30:34Speaker 16: most responsible decisions with the dollars we have to make
- 30:37Speaker 16: sure that they can go as.
- 30:38Speaker 3: Far as possible. And what was the ultimate decision that
- 30:40Speaker 3: came out of the board meeting yesterday?
- 30:41Speaker 16: Yes So, yesterday our full board embraced the recommendation of
- 30:44Speaker 16: a smaller subcommittee that looked at this system plan, and
- 30:47Speaker 16: the recommendations will essentially it. If you look back six
- 30:50Speaker 16: months ago, we said, hey, we're going to look at
- 30:53Speaker 16: eliminating these eleven routes across Kanawac County that are underperforming
- 30:56Speaker 16: or over subsidized. The plan that was approved yesterday says,
- 30:59Speaker 16: instead of liminitating those, we're going to cut their frequency
- 31:01Speaker 16: in half. So maybe they used to come eight times today,
- 31:04Speaker 16: now they'll come four. Still get people to and from work,
- 31:07Speaker 16: make sure that individuals can still ride the bus during
- 31:09Speaker 16: the weekdays. This the plan yesterday also eliminates Sunday service,
- 31:13Speaker 16: which is a huge point of contention whether or not
- 31:16Speaker 16: we could or couldn't eliminate Sunday service. By eliminating Sunday service,
- 31:21Speaker 16: that costs about six hundred thousand dollars between five and
- 31:23Speaker 16: six hundred thousand dollars a year, which is a huge
- 31:25Speaker 16: hurdle for us. We're one of only in Morgantown they
- 31:29Speaker 16: offer service on Sundays to help with the university, but
- 31:32Speaker 16: only about twenty four of the one hundred and seventy
- 31:35Speaker 16: five public transit agencies and surrounding states offers service on Sundays.
- 31:39Speaker 16: So our board made that tough decision to eliminate Sunday service,
- 31:42Speaker 16: and then our Saturday service schedule is going to be
- 31:45Speaker 16: reminiscent of what our Sunday service was before. So there's
- 31:48Speaker 16: a lot of changes. But the reality is, Look, everyone
- 31:51Speaker 16: who had service who was nervous or had anxiety about
- 31:56Speaker 16: the fact that Kart was going to eliminate their route,
- 31:58Speaker 16: that's not happening. Zero that's being eliminated.
- 32:01Speaker 3: But I mean it is going to obviously, and I
- 32:03Speaker 3: know there's no way around this that it is going
- 32:05Speaker 3: to inconvenience some people. I know our stations where they
- 32:07Speaker 3: are covering the meetings, and I know the local TV
- 32:09Speaker 3: stations and newspaper were there as well, and what they
- 32:11Speaker 3: heard from people. There was one quote from one particular
- 32:14Speaker 3: gentleman that I know we interviewed and we also saw
- 32:17Speaker 3: him on television when he said, oh, well, I guess
- 32:19Speaker 3: I just won't work on Sundays now, because you know,
- 32:22Speaker 3: and that's a sad reality.
- 32:24Speaker 16: Though, Sean exactly. And that's something we don't take lightly.
- 32:27Speaker 16: And that's why this process took us over two years
- 32:29Speaker 16: to go through. It's why we had three public hearings,
- 32:32Speaker 16: we had over six hundred comments. I think we have
- 32:35Speaker 16: two major responsibilities a KRT. One is the responsibility to
- 32:38Speaker 16: our passengers to provide where we say, safe, convenient, accessible, affordable,
- 32:42Speaker 16: reliable transportation, and we take that extremely seriously. But again,
- 32:46Speaker 16: we also have a responsibility to the taxpayers of Kanawha
- 32:49Speaker 16: County to say, hey, the funding you give to us,
- 32:51Speaker 16: we're going to make sure that we use that responsibly
- 32:54Speaker 16: and push the dollars as far as we possibly can,
- 32:56Speaker 16: but we're not going to make our own decisions that
- 32:58Speaker 16: are you know, not responsible with that funding.
- 33:02Speaker 3: But obviously KRT is still a very viable thing because
- 33:06Speaker 3: based on solely the numbers of people that showed up
- 33:09Speaker 3: at these public meetings or way in online or whatever.
- 33:11Speaker 3: I mean. The public was very obviously very concerned about.
- 33:13Speaker 2: This, exactly.
- 33:14Speaker 16: They were very concerned and it showed the system work.
- 33:16Speaker 16: They came out and they said, hey, can you please
- 33:17Speaker 16: cut back instead of cutting out? And our board heard
- 33:20Speaker 16: that and the response and what we saw passed yesterday
- 33:22Speaker 16: was exactly that was. It said, hey, and instead of
- 33:25Speaker 16: taking those eleven routes and getting rid of them, we're
- 33:27Speaker 16: going to minimize the frequency but still keep them so
- 33:30Speaker 16: those individuals can still ride to and from every single.
- 33:32Speaker 3: So when you talk about explain how that's going to work.
- 33:35Speaker 3: And give me an example if you can shunt of
- 33:37Speaker 3: a particular area when you say you're going to you're
- 33:39Speaker 3: going to lessen some of the routes. Just take any
- 33:41Speaker 3: one of your routes off the top of your head
- 33:42Speaker 3: that you think is a good example of what it's
- 33:44Speaker 3: going to look like. So the people will be able
- 33:46Speaker 3: to understand a little bit better.
- 33:48Speaker 6: Exactly.
- 33:48Speaker 16: So let's say you the South Hills route runs eight
- 33:51Speaker 16: times a day. What we would do is we'll go
- 33:54Speaker 16: in into we have data that shows, hey, people get
- 33:57Speaker 16: on the bus at this time, they get off the
- 33:58Speaker 16: bus at this time. And what we will do is
- 34:00Speaker 16: try to if we take those eight routes and tournament
- 34:03Speaker 16: of four, what we'll do is be smart about it
- 34:05Speaker 16: and look at hey, okay, well, usually people get on
- 34:07Speaker 16: the bus at seven am because they're going to work,
- 34:09Speaker 16: or they come home at three forty five, four or five,
- 34:11Speaker 16: whatever time. We will keep those four routes and then
- 34:14Speaker 16: the midday routes you know, will go away. But at
- 34:18Speaker 16: the same time, and one thing I want to lean
- 34:20Speaker 16: on too, we didn't just take those routes away and
- 34:21Speaker 16: then say hey, good luck. During the middle of the day.
- 34:24Speaker 16: We're creating this new system, this KRT plus on demand
- 34:27Speaker 16: ride share service where during the middle of the day,
- 34:29Speaker 16: if you're in those zones that are active, you can
- 34:31Speaker 16: get on your phone or you can call into the
- 34:32Speaker 16: krt's office and we'll come pick you up in a
- 34:34Speaker 16: vehicle and take you to the main line. So the
- 34:37Speaker 16: service will still exist for you in time. It's just
- 34:41Speaker 16: going to be a different It's a change.
- 34:42Speaker 3: Change is hard, it is and you talked about that,
- 34:45Speaker 3: I think the last time that you were on the show.
- 34:47Speaker 3: So how's the development of that coming along.
- 34:49Speaker 16: Yeah, so we're rolling out the pilot right now. And
- 34:52Speaker 16: anytime you introduce you mix software and public transit and anything,
- 34:55Speaker 16: and then you've got some headaches and we're ironing those out.
- 34:59Speaker 16: We anticipate the this fall we'll be able to make
- 35:02Speaker 16: a big public push to say, hey, download a KRT
- 35:04Speaker 16: plus app. It's in the stores now. You can download
- 35:07Speaker 16: and use the system. But it's we're still ironing out
- 35:11Speaker 16: some of those issues, but it's gonna work well, and
- 35:14Speaker 16: we're really excited about it because we think it's going
- 35:16Speaker 16: to open up Kart to individuals who historically have never
- 35:19Speaker 16: used KRT system. They're not going to ride the bus maybe,
- 35:22Speaker 16: but they will take it to the airport. They will
- 35:23Speaker 16: take a shuttle to home from a restaurant or a
- 35:26Speaker 16: sporting event, et cetera. And that's where we're going to
- 35:28Speaker 16: capture some new revenue also to help get this.
- 35:31Speaker 3: Issue so instead of you riding the bus with however
- 35:34Speaker 3: many people are on air how many people are on
- 35:36Speaker 3: an average bus.
- 35:37Speaker 16: Route, It just depends on the route. Yeah, when we
- 35:39Speaker 16: talk about those four routes that are really well ridden,
- 35:42Speaker 16: you're talking about an average of twenty to thirty people
- 35:44Speaker 16: on a bus.
- 35:45Speaker 3: Okay, so instead of having twenty to thirty people with
- 35:47Speaker 3: this new with a new ride share system, you'd be
- 35:50Speaker 3: the only person possibly argue that, yeah, or that could
- 35:52Speaker 3: possibly be another we just like with Uber or something.
- 35:54Speaker 3: I guess right.
- 35:54Speaker 16: Exactly, there could be others because the system tries to
- 35:57Speaker 16: maximize the efficiencies. So there's a chance you could be
- 35:59Speaker 16: in there with someone else, but you're in a smaller vehicle.
- 36:01Speaker 3: We're looking for are these are these traditional cars or
- 36:05Speaker 3: vans or what we're looking at.
- 36:06Speaker 16: So what we have right now is we have a
- 36:08Speaker 16: fleet of we call them pair of transit vans because
- 36:09Speaker 16: they are eighty accessible. They have lifts in them, but
- 36:11Speaker 16: we're purchasing thirteen. They're sprinter style vans, so they hold
- 36:15Speaker 16: about twelve individuals in them. But they're they're almost like
- 36:18Speaker 16: a church van exactly. Yeah, church vans cart church vans
- 36:21Speaker 16: will come pick you up and take you to where
- 36:23Speaker 16: you need to go. Take you to the airport, We'll
- 36:25Speaker 16: take you to inside of the zones that are turned on.
- 36:28Speaker 16: And that's it's a big deal, and it's it's a
- 36:30Speaker 16: way again we're making our dollar go further with a
- 36:32Speaker 16: news service. It's different but it's a new service that
- 36:35Speaker 16: will actually help more citizens.
- 36:36Speaker 8: In the county.
- 36:37Speaker 3: Again, we're talking with Sean Hill from KRT to Dave
- 36:39Speaker 3: Allen showing five eighty live is presented about General Hardware
- 36:42Speaker 3: of Windfield and Milton and General Lumber of wind Field.
- 36:44Speaker 3: All projects big and small, they can handle it shop locally.
- 36:47Speaker 3: Who is a General Hardware WV dot com. You talk
- 36:49Speaker 3: about funding, CHOHn explained to the folks that may not
- 36:52Speaker 3: know how exactly is KRT funded.
- 36:54Speaker 16: Sure, So we have several different revenue streams. Our primary
- 36:57Speaker 16: the largest majority of our funding comes from the Knaw
- 36:59Speaker 16: County Public Safety Levee. So about fifty five percent of
- 37:02Speaker 16: our funding comes from the safety levee, and that's the
- 37:05Speaker 16: levee that is collected that's shared between the Kanaw County
- 37:08Speaker 16: Emergency Ambulance Authority, the kanawh County Commission, and KRT, So
- 37:12Speaker 16: that's a huge chunk of our funding. We receive a
- 37:15Speaker 16: funding from FTA, so a federal funding also comes in there.
- 37:19Speaker 16: About seven percent of our funding comes from actual ticket sales.
- 37:21Speaker 16: So when the question came up to hey, can you
- 37:23Speaker 16: just increase the prices of tickets and will that help
- 37:25Speaker 16: you solve this problem. No, and again we're sensitive to
- 37:28Speaker 16: our ridership and we don't want to increase the burden
- 37:31Speaker 16: on them by raising this ticketing prices.
- 37:33Speaker 10: So it's a.
- 37:34Speaker 16: Combination of the levee, the federal funding, any kind of
- 37:38Speaker 16: ticketing we receive from our passengers, et cetera that kind
- 37:42Speaker 16: of fill the gaps.
- 37:43Speaker 6: There.
- 37:43Speaker 16: A little bit of state funding also that comes in,
- 37:45Speaker 16: but primarily it's that safety levee. That's why we got
- 37:47Speaker 16: to focus.
- 37:47Speaker 3: And anytime you make a decision like this, you know
- 37:50Speaker 3: not everybody's going to be happy with it. Obviously, I
- 37:53Speaker 3: have a text here and I'll let you address it.
- 37:55Speaker 3: This is Dave regarding KRT. I'm not a current writer.
- 37:58Speaker 3: I was considering starting to use it, but if it
- 38:00Speaker 3: is unreliable, I probably will not. It's a basic public service.
- 38:04Speaker 3: If we don't use as much water on Sunday, do
- 38:07Speaker 3: you churn it off? I hope that Kart will reconsider
- 38:10Speaker 3: the decision. How would you answer that?
- 38:11Speaker 6: Sure?
- 38:12Speaker 16: I think a thing we need to look at too
- 38:13Speaker 16: when it comes to, you know, saying it needs to
- 38:16Speaker 16: be reliable. So we've had an issue since COVID. We've
- 38:20Speaker 16: had a tough time hiring CDL drivers. We've had routes
- 38:23Speaker 16: that you know, they're supposed to come at eight pm
- 38:24Speaker 16: and they don't show up because we have to cancel
- 38:26Speaker 16: them because we don't have a driver. There's no value
- 38:30Speaker 16: in a reliable transit system and putting out a schedule
- 38:33Speaker 16: that looks fantastic on paper if we can't actually accomplish
- 38:37Speaker 16: those routes. People need to know that when a kart
- 38:40Speaker 16: bus says it's going to show up, it's going to
- 38:41Speaker 16: show up. So that issue, as far as staffing, has
- 38:44Speaker 16: been tough for us, and again the funding. If we
- 38:46Speaker 16: can't afford to actually run those routes, why put out
- 38:50Speaker 16: a schedule that looks amazing if we can't fulfill it.
- 38:52Speaker 16: I would rather us show up to one hundred percent
- 38:54Speaker 16: of the routes that we have on our schedule, even
- 38:56Speaker 16: if they are smaller than what it exists today, then
- 38:58Speaker 16: show up for seventy percent of the routes. It's not
- 39:00Speaker 16: fair to people who are standing out there in the
- 39:02Speaker 16: morning hoping that the bus is going to come. If
- 39:04Speaker 16: it doesn't, how do.
- 39:05Speaker 3: You go about if as someone who has not used KRT,
- 39:09Speaker 3: how do you go about if I'm going to catch
- 39:11Speaker 3: the bus? At seven am every morning from fill in
- 39:14Speaker 3: name here to come to my office downtown. How do
- 39:16Speaker 3: the people know if the bus is not going to running?
- 39:18Speaker 3: I mean, how do people know that?
- 39:20Speaker 6: Sure?
- 39:21Speaker 16: So we've done a couple of things in the last
- 39:22Speaker 16: couple of years that I'm proud of of of racing technology.
- 39:25Speaker 16: We have what we call the Transit App, which is
- 39:26Speaker 16: an app you download on your phone or you can
- 39:28Speaker 16: call into our office and ask, but you can pick
- 39:31Speaker 16: on It shows the entire system for KRT. It shows
- 39:33Speaker 16: you the timetables. Hey, this is where you're and you
- 39:35Speaker 16: can put in hey I want to get picked up here,
- 39:37Speaker 16: I want to be dropped off there. It's going to
- 39:39Speaker 16: tell you exactly when that route's going to come. It's
- 39:41Speaker 16: also going to give you a notification, so it's going
- 39:42Speaker 16: to ping you just like a text message and say, hey,
- 39:45Speaker 16: the bus is running later, it's not running today. That's
- 39:47Speaker 16: something we didn't have historically, but we now have that tool,
- 39:50Speaker 16: which has been really helpful for our passengers to say, hey, okay,
- 39:53Speaker 16: we're aware now that I'm not going to stand out
- 39:55Speaker 16: here in the rain and wait for this bus to
- 39:56Speaker 16: show up if it's not coming.
- 39:59Speaker 3: Tech says service to the the airport is huge. Once
- 40:01Speaker 3: they get that set up, they'll need to advertise that
- 40:03Speaker 3: the travelers coming to the airport.
- 40:04Speaker 16: Yeah, that's a big thing for us. So that's that
- 40:07Speaker 16: third component of the on demand, the KRT plus system,
- 40:10Speaker 16: which is what we call POI. So we're starting with
- 40:12Speaker 16: the airport because we recognize that's a huge deal. So
- 40:15Speaker 16: if it's twelve to fifteen dollars for an entire vehicle, submit,
- 40:18Speaker 16: maybe there's a family of four and they're going to
- 40:19Speaker 16: the airport for twelve dollars. You get up to the
- 40:21Speaker 16: airport and then when you get home from your trip,
- 40:24Speaker 16: you don't have to worry about you know, go and
- 40:25Speaker 16: find your car in the parking lot, paying the parking
- 40:27Speaker 16: you just you call a KRT and you get on
- 40:29Speaker 16: your phone and get a KRT and we take you home.
- 40:31Speaker 16: That's again, that's where our service is going to be
- 40:34Speaker 16: opened up to people who historically they've paid the safety levee,
- 40:37Speaker 16: but they've never used our service.
- 40:39Speaker 3: Befoy, let you go. What is the final message Sean
- 40:43Speaker 3: that you would like to leave listeners with or the
- 40:45Speaker 3: writers of Kart Because this has been a long process.
- 40:48Speaker 3: I've had you on a couple times talking about it.
- 40:49Speaker 3: You've had three public meetings, plus you let people weigh
- 40:52Speaker 3: in online. The meetings were all packed from what I understand,
- 40:55Speaker 3: so the public is weighed in. This has been the
- 40:57Speaker 3: final decision. And as a texture asked, did they hope
- 41:02Speaker 3: that you would reconsider? I think this is pretty much
- 41:04Speaker 3: this is the final decision. That's your final answer. I
- 41:05Speaker 3: guess as they would say, what would be your your
- 41:09Speaker 3: message that you'd like to leave listeners or writers of
- 41:11Speaker 3: Kart with this morning?
- 41:12Speaker 16: Sure, I think our message is we appreciate how the
- 41:16Speaker 16: amount of feedback we've received, the patients, we've received from
- 41:18Speaker 16: our passengers, want them to know that this is a
- 41:22Speaker 16: It is a final answer, but it's also a liquid
- 41:24Speaker 16: system that needs to be addressed. These changes need to
- 41:27Speaker 16: be addressed more often. If every fifteen years we come
- 41:29Speaker 16: to the table and say, hey, we're going to make
- 41:30Speaker 16: these huge changes, that's really hard to embrace. But if
- 41:32Speaker 16: every year, every six months, we say, hey, here's a
- 41:35Speaker 16: minor change or minor tweak, that's on KRT. That's krt's responsibility.
- 41:39Speaker 16: We should have done that before. But what I can
- 41:41Speaker 16: say is we don't take lightly the decisions we've made.
- 41:43Speaker 16: We recognize that it is having a major impact on
- 41:46Speaker 16: people's lives, and we appreciate that they are parts of
- 41:48Speaker 16: our community that use our service, and we're going to
- 41:50Speaker 16: continue to try to make our service sustainable for years
- 41:52Speaker 16: to come, and sometimes it takes tough decisions to do that.
- 41:56Speaker 3: What's our timetable for these changes.
- 41:58Speaker 16: Sure, so these changes won't go into effect until February
- 42:01Speaker 16: of twenty twenty five, so that gives us plenty of
- 42:03Speaker 16: time to create those schedules to make sure we push
- 42:05Speaker 16: those out to the Publics of individuals have an idea
- 42:08Speaker 16: and can figure out how their day is going to
- 42:10Speaker 16: work with the new schedules from kr T.
- 42:12Speaker 3: And where do they get that app? Could they just
- 42:14Speaker 3: get that from their app store.
- 42:15Speaker 16: Or online, or they can get it from the app store,
- 42:17Speaker 16: from the Apple App Store, Google App Store, they can
- 42:20Speaker 16: download it's the transit app, and then the kr T
- 42:22Speaker 16: Plus app is what's going to help with the on
- 42:24Speaker 16: demand right shair.
- 42:25Speaker 3: We had a text of the show here that said,
- 42:27Speaker 3: Dave I frequently travel for work, and that sort of
- 42:29Speaker 3: service from the airport in Chicago at o'haa is one
- 42:32Speaker 3: hundred and twenty dollars YEP. Hopefully it won't be one
- 42:35Speaker 3: hundred and twenty dollars in Charleston.
- 42:37Speaker 16: No, I told you twelve we left, we left the
- 42:39Speaker 16: zero out. But no, we recognize, Hey, we're subsidized by
- 42:42Speaker 16: the safety Levey. Let's give that service.
- 42:44Speaker 3: I think the texture we're saying in Chicago, this is
- 42:46Speaker 3: one hundred and twenty dollars.
- 42:47Speaker 16: Yeah, exactly, Hey, come get a deal. Little yeah, a
- 42:50Speaker 16: little chiever, a little ch.
- 42:52Speaker 3: Sean Hillick taking a director of krit I appreciate you
- 42:54Speaker 3: being here again, as I said, anytime that you make changes,
- 42:57Speaker 3: and we spend a lot of time on the show
- 42:58Speaker 3: with school officials talking about consolidating schools. People don't like change, obviously,
- 43:03Speaker 3: and there's always a lot of questions, a lot of
- 43:06Speaker 3: you know, and it's completely understandable. And now I think
- 43:08Speaker 3: you folks have done a good job of trying to
- 43:10Speaker 3: roll this out. And again we're looking at these changes
- 43:11Speaker 3: coming into February of the new year, and there's going
- 43:15Speaker 3: to be some positive things come out of this as well. Sean,
- 43:17Speaker 3: I appreciate you being here, man, thanks a lot. Thanks
- 43:18Speaker 3: for it is ten minutes away from Tim to Dave
- 43:20Speaker 3: Island show in five eighty line brought to you in
- 43:22Speaker 3: Apart by Morgan and Morgan, America's largest injury law firm.

- 46:18Speaker 3: League Championship Series against York. The Birds are down two
- 46:20Speaker 3: games to none after dropping two straight to the Revolution
- 46:24Speaker 3: of York Tuesday and Wednesday night at gomart Ballpark. Game
- 46:27Speaker 3: three and the other games will take place over the weekend.
- 46:30Speaker 3: Jill Garon, the Voice of the Dirty Bird joins us. Now, Jill,
- 46:33Speaker 3: good morning, welcome to the show.
- 46:36Speaker 11: Good morning, thanks Dave.
- 46:37Speaker 3: Thank you for being here all week long. I think
- 46:39Speaker 3: this is like your what tenth or eleventh day in
- 46:41Speaker 3: a row of being on this show.
- 46:44Speaker 11: Sounds about right.
- 46:45Speaker 3: Yeah, Well, if you want to host it anytime when
- 46:47Speaker 3: I'm on vacation, I'll save the world from Dale Cooper
- 46:50Speaker 3: and you can come host the show. How's that? I know,
- 46:55Speaker 3: I have no doubt that you'd be there. All right,
- 46:56Speaker 3: So this is it, Jill. The Birds have got to
- 46:59Speaker 3: win three straight on the road to bring home what
- 47:01Speaker 3: would be the first championship for a baseball team in
- 47:04Speaker 3: Charleston since nineteen ninety.
- 47:06Speaker 11: This is it, absolutely, I mean, he said tonight's games
- 47:10Speaker 11: at six thirty in York. They need to win the
- 47:12Speaker 11: next three games, and you know, backs against the wall.
- 47:16Speaker 6: But a lot of the guys are excited.
- 47:18Speaker 11: If you follow some of the guys personally on social media,
- 47:20Speaker 11: they're all posting about backs against the wall. But we
- 47:22Speaker 11: still got this. Dave Lebron is on the mound today
- 47:25Speaker 11: and he has been lights out his last three starts,
- 47:28Speaker 11: so we to steal for my my Boston Red Sox
- 47:32Speaker 11: in two thousand and four. Don't let us win tonight
- 47:35Speaker 11: because if we win tonight, you're in trouble.
- 47:38Speaker 3: Is the team already in York?
- 47:41Speaker 11: Yeah, they traveled there yesterday. The front office is going
- 47:44Speaker 11: up right now. I'm somewhere in Clay County. I think
- 47:46Speaker 11: calling in three of those.
- 47:48Speaker 3: Okay, Well, I was gonna say about.
- 47:51Speaker 11: Fifty people going up. So we got about fifty people
- 47:53Speaker 11: fans and front office staff going up to the game.
- 47:55Speaker 11: So we're gonna have a good representation today.
- 47:57Speaker 3: Well that's great. Now, how's the weather looking up there?
- 47:59Speaker 3: Because I know the entire East Coast is keeping an
- 48:01Speaker 3: eye on the hurricane, on the hurricane in Florida and
- 48:04Speaker 3: how it's going to impact us. Have you looked ahead?
- 48:06Speaker 3: I know, I know, I know you have. But what's
- 48:07Speaker 3: the weather looking like in York tonight?
- 48:09Speaker 11: Yeah, it's looking a little wet. I have a rain
- 48:12Speaker 11: jacket and a half packed. But here's the good news.
- 48:15Speaker 7: This is what I think is good.
- 48:17Speaker 11: If it's raining, the York fans probably aren't going to
- 48:20Speaker 11: come to the ballpark, So we're going to have a
- 48:21Speaker 11: very loud cheering section because unless you're a diehard fan,
- 48:24Speaker 11: you're probably not going to be sitting in the rain.
- 48:26Speaker 3: Well, and what uh what about their field? Can their
- 48:29Speaker 3: field at at York? I mean, because it's not really
- 48:31Speaker 3: unless unless we have lightning here at Gomark Ballpark, games
- 48:34Speaker 3: don't get canceled here, you know, because we can withstand
- 48:37Speaker 3: the rain. What's the field like in York?
- 48:38Speaker 4: Do you know?
- 48:40Speaker 11: I haven't been there. I know that they're talking about
- 48:43Speaker 11: potentially changing the game time for Saturday because they're supposed
- 48:46Speaker 11: to be a lot more rain than so they might
- 48:48Speaker 11: be impacted tomorrow night.
- 48:50Speaker 3: All right, So but they again they have to win tonight,
- 48:53Speaker 3: Tomorrow night and Saturday. Give us the times for the
- 48:56Speaker 3: games again, I know it's it's kind of asterisk and
- 48:58Speaker 3: whether weather pending? What are the set game times for now?
- 49:03Speaker 13: Right?
- 49:03Speaker 11: So tonight and tomorrow are set for six thirty. Sunday
- 49:06Speaker 11: is two o'clock. Follow us on social media and we
- 49:10Speaker 11: will update you if at the game times change. And again,
- 49:13Speaker 11: you can watch everything on Flow Baseball. So if you
- 49:15Speaker 11: don't want to come up to Pennsylvania, you don't want
- 49:17Speaker 11: to drive in the ring, that's okay. You can stay
- 49:20Speaker 11: dry and watch on Flow baseball.
- 49:22Speaker 3: Well again, the backs against the wall. There are sports,
- 49:25Speaker 3: as you mentioned your beloved Boston Red Sox, there are
- 49:28Speaker 3: sports teams that live for that back against the wall mentality.
- 49:31Speaker 3: Count us down, go ahead, and count us out, and
- 49:34Speaker 3: we're going to rise to the occasion. And we certainly
- 49:36Speaker 3: hope that that is the case here because then this
- 49:38Speaker 3: has been a remarkable I mean, either way the series,
- 49:40Speaker 3: either a championship or not, the series is going to
- 49:42Speaker 3: come to an end or the season is going to
- 49:44Speaker 3: come to an end this weekend in York, Pennsylvania. This
- 49:46Speaker 3: has been a remarkable season for the Dirty Birds and
- 49:50Speaker 3: a remarkable team. Talk about that, because this will be,
- 49:52Speaker 3: as I said, one way or the other, this will
- 49:54Speaker 3: probably be the last time until we start planning a
- 49:56Speaker 3: parade or something like that if they win the championship.
- 49:59Speaker 3: Talk about this season.
- 50:00Speaker 11: Overall, Jill, Yeah, I mean, this team has dealt with
- 50:04Speaker 11: so much adversity. Where we were a fantastic team at
- 50:07Speaker 11: the beginning, almost never lost at home, and then we
- 50:11Speaker 11: had eight players contracts be purchased by MLB teams, which
- 50:14Speaker 11: is great, but it really we didn't have a next
- 50:18Speaker 11: man up ready to take those eight spots. So PJ. Phillips,
- 50:22Speaker 11: our manager and his coaching staff, did a great job
- 50:24Speaker 11: of finding guys to replace those eight and to come
- 50:28Speaker 11: back after frankly being in almost last place in the
- 50:32Speaker 11: first half, to then win the second half and then
- 50:35Speaker 11: beat Gastonia for the Southern Division Series and now be
- 50:39Speaker 11: here in the Championship Series. I'm very proud of this team,
- 50:41Speaker 11: and again not just on the field, but off the field.
- 50:44Speaker 11: There's been a great group of guys to work with.
- 50:46Speaker 3: And we're going to be talking a lot about the
- 50:48Speaker 3: Dirty Birds even during the off season because, as you know,
- 50:51Speaker 3: you're in addition to being the broadcast or you're also
- 50:53Speaker 3: in the marketing aspect of it as well. There really
- 50:55Speaker 3: is no off season.
- 50:57Speaker 11: So they were setting up lights for late the night.
- 51:01Speaker 3: That's what I was going to say in the Selangled
- 51:04Speaker 3: all light the night. We'll be spending some time talking
- 51:06Speaker 3: about that. Plus, the online store is available. People can
- 51:09Speaker 3: go any time throughout the season get their Christmas gifts
- 51:12Speaker 3: and whatever by buying Dirty Birds gear, and then that
- 51:15Speaker 3: goes on no matter what.
- 51:16Speaker 11: Right, great exactly. You can always get your merchandise online
- 51:22Speaker 11: and if you don't want it to be shipped, you
- 51:23Speaker 11: can come pick it up at the ballpark. We do
- 51:25Speaker 11: have an office at the ballpark, and we do have
- 51:28Speaker 11: championship gear, not championship gear playoffs the year that is available.
- 51:31Speaker 11: So we will have championship gear available Monday when we win, right,
- 51:36Speaker 11: but we have playoff gear that is available as well
- 51:38Speaker 11: for kause, Christmas gifts and anything else you want.
- 51:40Speaker 3: You said that, not me. Let's go. Let's go team,
- 51:45Speaker 3: Let's go dirty Birds.
- 51:47Speaker 11: Go dirty birds. Thinkstage all right.
- 51:49Speaker 3: Joe, I appreciate you being here. Thanks a lot. The
