Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville jackwars fans, welcome in.
- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: To do wall daily, President by Jinjag.com, I'm Jordan Luger.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks so much for being here Tuesday, March 10th.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: Second day of free agency, really the legal tampering period, but teams are agreeing to new contracts across the league, and we have another outgoing free agent for the jackwars agreeing to a contract.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: in the NFC, which you like to see.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: You like to see these jacks players not signing with AFC rivals.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_00]: Greg Newsom, corner back with Jaguar, is traded for during the 2025 season.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: Is headed to New York, to New York Giants to go play for John Harbaugh, Donard Wilson, former Titans Defense of Coordinator, and Ravens Defense of Assistant is the Defense of Coordinator for the Giants now.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: Greg Newsom, heading up there.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_00]: According to Jordan Schultz, and then we also did get the info on the compensation.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's a one year deal worth up to $10 million.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_00]: So we don't have the specifics on that yet.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: But my guess is that that's not going to get the Jaguar as a compensatory pick in return.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, so just kind of a net neutral for the jags there.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_00]: They weren't gonna resign Greg Newsom never felt like something that really made sense for them to do, but we'll talk about it here a little bit really appreciate y'all tuning in.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content, please like and subscribe, you know, let's check out jingjag.com.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: Pick up some new dooval gear, help support the channel look good while doing it.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: You can also hit that high button.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: So, uh, very tired, hopefully I don't stumble over my words too much here.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: It was a full day yesterday and uh, just didn't get a ton of sleep.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: Look, Greg knew some heading to New York with the Giants for him.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: Happy Forum, I think he'll get a chance to go compete and potentially start.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: I think that the giant system with Denard Wilson, Wilson, liking to run a lot of press technique, probably makes a little bit more sense for Greg Newsom.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: I thought his tape with the Browns was better when he was closer to the line of scrimmage.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: He's a great athlete.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: He's got decent size, he's aggressive, and I think he's got good ball skills.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think playing in,
- 2:11[SPEAKER_00]: A lot more off coverage for the Jaguars, maybe just wasn't the best fit for his skill set.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: And that's fine.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like the Jaguars, they traded for him, they wanted to get Tyson Campbell, they didn't want to continue to be paying Tyson Campbell premium cornerback money, which is what they were doing.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, big dead capit for this year, but after that, you're in the clear.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_00]: And so they wanted to
- 2:39[SPEAKER_00]: Move on from Tyson Campbell, try to get him to the Browns.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_00]: You can make an argument whether or not you agree with that move.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_00]: They got Greg Newsom.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think that was basically, we don't want to pay Tyson Campbell as a premium cornerback in our system.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe Greg Newsom can be an answer for us.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to find out.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_00]: Turns out, he wasn't.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't think his skill set fit the Jaguar system very well.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: When it comes to where the Jaguars are at with the corner back room now, they have a healthy corner room.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter, CB1, Buster Brown, CB2, Jarian Jones, CB3, Jordan Lewis, starting nickel coming off the injury.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: But Jarian Jones is a damn good starting nickel as well.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: So you've got great options there, Christian Braswell, I think proved to be solid depth.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_00]: Keith Taylor was somebody they prioritized bringing him back quickly.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: So I think the jag wars are in a good spot overall, like I said, at the corner back position, especially with the emergence of Buster Brown last year being a star in the Jaguar system.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter also showing out as a corner in 2025 for the Jaguars as a rookie when he was healthy.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: And so getting him back is going to be a huge boon for the
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: how well Travis Hunter really was playing at the corner back position.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: I know a lot of fantasy folks out there were like, what are the Jaguars do in the as and whatever.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: But people who actually analyze football.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he was playing great defense on the back end for the Jaguars.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_00]: teams weren't wanting to target him very often when they did it didn't go very well for them.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously he did pick up the passenger appearance penalty against the bingles that was a horrible call.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: It was a great play down the field by Travis Hunter in a pivotal moment in a game and week two his second game of his career.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think you're going to see again a lot more corner back for Travis Hunter.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: Buster Brown proved he should be a starter in this system all day long and you've got really good nickel options and backup options.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: That's not to say the Jaguar is can't add more corner in the draft they certainly can.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: they don't need to do that, they don't have to do that, they're not pigeonholed in doing that because they brought back Buster Brown.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: And now Greg Newsom, I wish the best for him, I don't think the Jaguars that I mentioned are going to get a convict for this, again it's worth up to $10 million so I don't see that really factoring into the comments story pick formula.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: We will get more information on that later, but I just don't see that happening.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: So the jack's right now With Devon Lloyd departing with Travis ET into partying and Greg Newsom.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: They're currently slated for Travis ET and have a fifth round Compense Tory pick in twenty twenty seven for Devon Lloyd a fourth or fifth round It's kind of on the border.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_00]: Don't know yet how that's gonna shake out according to Nick Quarty of over the cap
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, throughout Jags history, they've been a team that's signing more players in for agency than letting good players walk, and I know a lot of Jags fans are not happy about Devon Lloyd departing, about Travis E.T.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: in departing.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: Look, I would love to see him back here too, and I think the Jag wars, if they weren't restricted by the salary cap, they would be back.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: Let's say, yes, we loved to have Devin Lloyd back.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: We loved to have Travis E.T.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_00]: and back in shotgun is an owner that will spare no expense.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: He would absolutely do it if he could from a salary cap standpoint.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: The Jack Wars just didn't feel like that was going to be the best utilization of the resources they have.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_00]: James Glaston is somewhat limited based on the cap situation that is really largely due to what Trent Balkey did a couple years ago.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_00]: and you also have the fact again that the Jaguars have a bunch of guys coming up where 2026 you want to extend these players.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_00]: whether it's before the 2026 season or after the 2026 season, you have Britain Strange, Trayvom Walker, Parker Washington, Antonio Johnson, all big and then you also have to factor in Anton Harrison's future as well.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: There's just a bunch of players, the Jaguars, really could prioritize and I think they also didn't want to just strap themselves, not financially, but from a cap standpoint,
- 7:15[SPEAKER_00]: moving forward with a off ball linebacker who ended up getting top four money at the position, a running back who ended up getting top seven money at the position.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: You have some in-house alternatives, and you also have the draft to look ahead to, and you also have the ability to go sign some players that can bring in some talent and competition to those positions.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: So that's where we're at with the Jaguars in their free agency right now.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: I know a lot of people are interested in tray Hendricks and I'm obviously interested in tray Hendricks and but right now Adam chef is reporting that he wants like 30 plus million dollars per year and he's not willing to budge and there's a lot of teams that are interested in him but they're not getting to the number that he wants so that's going to be a fluid situation.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's been reported that he wants to play football in the state of Florida.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: He has connections to the Jacksonville area family connections so
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely keeping an eye on it.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: I'm also keeping an eye on just any other defensive line, you know, I'd be down Jonathan Grinard.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: So hasn't been traded.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: What's going to happen in Philly if they extend Jalen Carter?
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: Could you go get more of a Jomeo potentially on a trade if they don't extend Jalen Carter?
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: I know the Jag wars.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they could flirt with with that idea as well.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: I squarely, firmly, biggest thing the Jack Wars need to do before the draft to me is upgrade the defense of front.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: They can do that and head into the draft and be able to still upgrade the difference for front further, add to the tight end position, add linebacker, potentially running back as well.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: I'm fine if the Jaguars don't go linebacker in the draft if they bring in another linebacker for agency.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: Same thing with running back right, but I definitely would like to see a tight end.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: I personally think they probably should just wait for the draft for linebacker, but there are some guys out there in for agency that I like.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: They've really got a ton of options.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: I had of them, but I think that defensive front.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I'm really Really looking for the jacks to do something in free agency or via trade to take a step forward In the past rush department really appreciate y'all tuning in if you enjoy the content.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_00]: Please like and subscribe y'all for good one
