- 0:01Speaker 1: Last break of the day. We've had a great morning today. Yes,
- 0:05Speaker 1: we had fun today. Steve, it's time for you now
- 0:08Speaker 1: to take us home with your closing remarks. What you
- 0:10Speaker 1: got for us today, Steve? Once again, it's about sharing
- 0:14Speaker 1: the things that I've learned along the way. And one
- 0:17Speaker 1: of the things I think is very important that we
- 0:19Speaker 1: should talk about, we should talk about blame and excuses.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Blame and excuses. I'm telling you, man, they serve no purpose. Excuses,
- 0:34Speaker 1: first of all, are only good for the person that's
- 0:37Speaker 1: providing them. It does nothing for the person who receives it.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Have you ever had somebody tell you a reason why
- 0:44Speaker 1: they didn't do something and you were counting on them
- 0:47Speaker 1: to get it done? And they gave you an excuse
- 0:49Speaker 1: as to why. OK, here's somebody supposed to pick you
- 0:52Speaker 1: up in the carpool for work. Now, you done gave
- 0:55Speaker 1: your car to your spouse so they could go do
- 0:57Speaker 1: what they want to do. Now, you sitting there waiting
- 0:59Speaker 1: on the carpool to come pick you up. They don't
- 1:01Speaker 1: pick you up. Now, they late. Man, I had a
- 1:05Speaker 1: hard time getting up this morning, man. I'm glad. But
- 1:08Speaker 1: I'm here, though. Whoa, man. That's an excuse. What do
- 1:12Speaker 1: you mean you late? You had a hard time getting up.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I'm sitting up here waiting on you to pick me up,
- 1:16Speaker 1: and you come 45 minutes late. Now, I'm late for work.
- 1:21Speaker 1: See that excuse? That does okay for me. I was
- 1:24Speaker 1: sick this morning. I didn't feel up to it. That
- 1:27Speaker 1: excuse works wonderful for you. But the person receiving the
- 1:31Speaker 1: excuse gets nothing. You've got to remove excuses from your
- 1:37Speaker 1: vocabulary and your walk in life. See, I don't really
- 1:42Speaker 1: accept excuses from anybody in my camp. If you're an employee,
- 1:48Speaker 1: you work for me. I don't do excuses because I
- 1:51Speaker 1: don't give none. Today, for example, I'm not feeling real well.
- 1:58Speaker 1: You know, my sinus system kicked in. I had a
- 2:01Speaker 1: troublesome night last night. I'm not feeling well. But guess what?
- 2:05Speaker 1: I came to work on the radio today and I'll
- 2:07Speaker 1: do these two shows I got to do today because
- 2:11Speaker 1: I don't care about my excuses. People who are looking
- 2:15Speaker 1: for me to wake them up in the morning, give
- 2:17Speaker 1: them a laugh or give them a thought starter. They
- 2:19Speaker 1: not looking for my excuses. They just looking for the results.
- 2:22Speaker 1: The excuses don't do me no good. Now there's some
- 2:24Speaker 1: days all of us are not up to par. We're
- 2:28Speaker 1: not 100%, but I'm not, I don't care about the excuses.
- 2:32Speaker 1: I don't accept excuses because I don't give excuses. The
- 2:36Speaker 1: other thing I removed from my life is blame. And
- 2:40Speaker 1: once you blame another person, man, This is what happened
- 2:46Speaker 1: with blame. Blame and excuses. Listen to me. Finger pointing
- 2:52Speaker 1: does nothing. Because you've heard the old saying, every time
- 2:56Speaker 1: you point your finger at a person, you notice there's
- 2:58Speaker 1: three of them pointing back at you. Once you are
- 3:01Speaker 1: in the blame business and the excuse business, you forfeit
- 3:06Speaker 1: your chance for growth. I'll give you an example. If
- 3:11Speaker 1: you're always talking about it's somebody else's fault, And you
- 3:15Speaker 1: always have an excuse why something didn't get done or accomplished.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Guess what? Now you can't grow. You can't grow. You
- 3:25Speaker 1: can't fix it. Because the reason why it didn't happen
- 3:29Speaker 1: or the reason why you didn't accomplish it is because
- 3:32Speaker 1: you blame someone else and you have an excuse. Once
- 3:36Speaker 1: you start accepting blame and excuses, you forfeit your chance
- 3:40Speaker 1: for growth. You kill any chance for change. Sometimes all
- 3:47Speaker 1: you have to do as a person is search within
- 3:49Speaker 1: yourself and find out what it is about you that
- 3:52Speaker 1: you could change that could start producing a better result.
- 3:56Speaker 1: But if you always blaming somebody else and providing and
- 3:59Speaker 1: accepting excuses from yourself and other people, guess what you've done?
- 4:03Speaker 1: You've killed your chance for change. Sometimes you could be
- 4:07Speaker 1: doing a whole lot better in life if you would
- 4:10Speaker 1: just change. If you would search yourself and change something
- 4:14Speaker 1: about you, you would be doing so much better. If
- 4:18Speaker 1: you just search yourself, stop allowing excuses to be a
- 4:22Speaker 1: part of your makeup and stop allowing blame to be
- 4:25Speaker 1: a part of it. And you would discover a lot
- 4:27Speaker 1: of this is just you. It could be you. Another
- 4:31Speaker 1: thing that blame and excuse it does, it allows you
- 4:34Speaker 1: to fail favorably. You know, man, you can just get
- 4:38Speaker 1: all right with failing. You can fail favorably because it
- 4:42Speaker 1: ain't my fault. And I didn't do it because it
- 4:46Speaker 1: was cold outside. So, ta-da, you allow yourself to fail favorably.
- 4:52Speaker 1: That's an ugly spot to be in. But blaming excuses
- 4:56Speaker 1: allows you to fail favorably. Like it's okay to fail
- 5:01Speaker 1: because it ain't my fault. Because I have an excuse
- 5:04Speaker 1: and it's they fault. Blaming excuses, man, is a very,
- 5:08Speaker 1: very dangerous thing out there. Also, blaming excuses promotes a
- 5:13Speaker 1: climate of failure. It just permeates man throughout your life.
- 5:18Speaker 1: And next thing you know, you ain't accomplishing nothing. Because
- 5:22Speaker 1: if blaming blame and excuses are part of your makeup,
- 5:25Speaker 1: you now have promoted a climate for failure. It's OK.
- 5:29Speaker 1: It's OK, because I have a reason why. Why you
- 5:33Speaker 1: didn't finish school? Because it was too cold to go.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Why you didn't finish school? Because that test was too hard.
- 5:40Speaker 1: I didn't study them two pages. I thought they said
- 5:42Speaker 1: the first chapter. She questions us on the first three chapters.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I didn't hear that. That's the only reason I fail.
- 5:50Speaker 1: And you get all right with it. When you're no
- 5:54Speaker 1: longer the reason why something happens, you no longer have
- 5:59Speaker 1: control over what happens. Let me say that to you
- 6:03Speaker 1: one more time. When you're no longer the reason why
- 6:07Speaker 1: something happens, you ain't got to take responsibility. You're not
- 6:16Speaker 1: the reason. Stop allowing blame and excuses to enter into
- 6:21Speaker 1: your makeup. They serve nobody any good, especially you. Those
- 6:29Speaker 1: are my closing remarks. All right now. Have yourself a
- 6:35Speaker 1: good weekend. You better. You better. For all Steve Harvey contests,
