  Podcasthero.com Well, hello everybody.
• 0:04
Welcome to The Daily Quote, a podcast designed to kick start
• 0:07
your day in a positive way. I'm our host Andrew McGivern for
• 0:10
December 23rd. Today is Festivus, a holiday for
• 0:14
the rest of us. Festivus became famous through
• 0:17
Seinfeld's 1997 episode The Strike, but it was actually
• 0:20
invented by Seinfeld writer Dan O'keefe's father, Daniel O'Keefe
• 0:26
in 1966. The TV version features an
• 0:30
aluminum pole airing of grievances and feats of
• 0:33
  strength. Celebrating authenticity over
• 0:36
holiday perfection. Festivus says be real.
• 0:41
And that brings us to today's quote from Oscar Wilde, who once
• 0:45
said be yourself. Everyone else is taken.
• 0:50
Festivus embodies Wild's wisdom. Don't demand holiday perfection.
• 0:56
  Don't pretend you're someone you're not.
• 0:59
Everyone else is already taken. The only authentic option left
• 1:03
is you, and that's Festivus. That's freedom.
• 1:09
  So today, practice Festivus authenticity.
• 1:12
Say what you really think. Drop the holiday performances,
• 1:17
but be nice. Airing grievances might not be
• 1:21
the best way to spread holiday cheer, and maybe substitute
• 1:25
feats of strength with feats of gratitude that might work out
• 1:30
better for you. But be yourself, because
• 1:35
everyone else is already taken. Happy Festivus.
• 1:39
That's going to do it for today. I'm Andy McGivern, signing off
• 1:41
for now, but I'll be back tomorrow.
• 1:46
Same pod time, same pod station with another daily quote.
