Transcript
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: Hi, welcome back to the Bougie Multipreneur.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Dr.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Hillary Huschauer, where we break down business in a way that feels doable.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Today's episode is coming straight from a real conversation I've been having inside my mompreneur meetup group here locally in Carmel, Indiana.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: And honestly, it's something I see all the time with small business owners, and that is Instagram.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: So many incredible talented business owners are either not using it at all, using it inconsistently, or feeling completely overwhelmed by it.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Which one are you?
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: I hear things like, I don't know what to post, I don't have time, I feel awkward, I can't get it perfect, or I can't afford to hire someone to do it for me.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: And here's what I want to tell you you don't need a social media manager to grow your business.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: You just need a simple plan and the confidence to show up.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: So today I'm going to walk you through 10 simple steps using Instagram for your business in a way that doesn't feel overwhelming.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Before we get into the steps, we need to shift how you think about Instagram.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Instagram is not just a social media, it's more like a free marketing platform.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Every time you post, you're not just posting, you're building trust, visibility, and connection with your potential clients.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: And people don't buy from businesses they don't know.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: They buy from people they feel connected to.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: It's all the feelings, right?
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: So if I were starting over today, I made a list of 10 simple steps that I would do.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: First, switch your mindset, right?
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Stop thinking, what should I post?
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: And then start thinking, how can I help someone today?
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Just that shift of how can I help someone today is a great start.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Then we need to clean up your bio for step two.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: This is your digital first impression, if you will.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: They should know who you help, what you do, where you're located, and what to do next.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: If your bio is confusing, people won't follow or reach out.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Number three, pick three content pillars.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: You don't need to talk about everything on there, just three simple categories.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Are you talking about education?
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Things that you know.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Are you gonna be personable, like who you are?
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: And then promotion-wise, what are you gonna offer?
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Just keep focused on three things.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: That way you won't feel overwhelmed.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: And then I would start with three posts a week.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: You don't have to post every day, although that would be great.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: But for most people out there, it's the overwhelming and everything that you have to do day to day.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: But let's just remove the pressure.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Three days, one educational post, one personal post, and one promotional or like a story-driven post.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: The consistency of these three will be the perfection every time.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: And I know who you perfectionists are out there, but I always say done is better than perfect.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: I'm not a perfectionist, so I can't quite understand, but I hear it over and over again from people.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: Also, we need to use our stories daily.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: So these stories are where people get to know you.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: They are like the behind the scenes, it's your day, it's your business and action.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: It's even you just talking on the phone.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: But the stories build trust faster than anything else.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: So the stories do do daily, but those should be much easier.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: And then for number six, you need to actually talk to the camera.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: I know this is the one that everyone avoids.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: But hear me when I say this people buy from people, not logos, not graphics, not perfection.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: You and I promise, no one is judging you more than you think you are.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: Number seven, don't overthink the reels.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: Reels don't have to be complicated.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: You don't need fancy edits or trending dances.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: What's working now is simple.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: It's the talking, it's the teaching, it's the sharing value.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: Just keep it easy for right now.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: Number eight, tell people what to do.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: If you don't tell people what to do, they won't do anything.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: So start adding things like follow me for more, message me, click the link to book, have like a call, or they call it like a call to action because that's what matters.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: And you know, we need to be engaging them like a human.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: Instagram is supposed to be social.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: You need to reply to their comments, respond to the DMs, engage with other local businesses.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: That's huge, especially when you're engaging with small business owners, because your next client might be already in your community.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: When I'm on Instagram, I have my personal Instagram and I have my business Instagrams for all my businesses.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: And I go on the business one more to then interact with other small businesses and people because I want over and over to see like, wow, this chiropractic office keeps commenting on all of my stuff.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: They seem really fun.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna click on them, follow them because they follow me, and hopefully they'll comment back on your stuff too.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: So I try to engage more as the business, unless your name is what everyone knows you for, then I would personally comment as the business owner.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: Uh, and you know what?
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: Give it 90 days.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: This is where people quit too early.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: You can't post for one week and expect results.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: It's like going to the gym, right?
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: And just uh working out one time a month and be like, why are why don't I have abs of steel?
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: Why don't I have buns of steel?
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: I mean, we've all done something once and be like, I don't understand why it's not working.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: Um, you can post for one week and expect results, right?
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: No.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: You have to have the 90 days of consistency, and that's when the momentum starts to build.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: Make a plan, you know, have an AI help you with a plan of action for 90 days.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: I personally use Chat GP a lot to help me plan.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: I like checklists.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: I either put them in a spreadsheet or I print them out so I can check them off manually with a real pen, you know.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: It's pretty old school of me.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Um, but some of my best patients, uh, connections, other business opportunities have come from Instagram, not from the ads I did on that, not a fancy marketing company, but just consistently showing up between my two chiropractic clinics, my coaching business, events.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: I've had other businesses too.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Instagram has been a huge connector, but it only works if you use it.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: Surprise, surprise.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: So if you're feeling overwhelmed, here's what I want you to remember.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: You don't need to go viral.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: You just need to be visible.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: Start simple, stay consistent, and show up.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: You know, I have a lot of people tell me, like, well, my hair doesn't look good, or this, or I don't have enough makeup on.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: But if that's what your client or patient sees all the time, then just be you.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: It's okay that you're not perfectly made up all the time.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: Like we see enough of that out there in the world.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: Just be authentically you.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: Be simple, be consistent, show up.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: So if this episode helped you, please share it with another small business owner who might need this, right?
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: And if you want help implementing this in your business, work with me.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: I offer coaching and consulting for service-based businesses.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Together, we would build like systems, we'd have clarity and momentum.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: And sometimes you just can't do that alone.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: Um, a great motivator, and I will help you through it.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: You can connect with me on my website, www.hjconsulting.com, or hey, I'm on Instagram, Hillary Hushour Jones.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: You can also see some of my other businesses on Instagram.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: And if you want a simple Instagram checklist, DM me the word Instagram and I'll send it to you.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: I look forward to following you and seeing what you're doing.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: We can follow each other.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: We can get tips and ideas and uh be a moneymaker and money shaker.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: Have a great week.
