1:45
Speaker 4: Because what is special about it? What I have with
1:47
Speaker 4: me in studio this morning. The two candidates for Knawa
1:51
Speaker 4: County Commission, the Democrat Natalie Tenant and the Republican Chris Walters.
1:54
Speaker 4: Neithers are stranger to public office. Natalie Tennant, former Westerninion
1:58
Speaker 4: Secretary of State, is run for other offices at the
2:00
Speaker 4: Passcris Walter's former state senator, been around politics for a
2:03
Speaker 4: long time. We're going to get to know both candidates
2:06
Speaker 4: better on this show and a programming Know that both
2:10
Speaker 4: mister Walters and miss Tennant have agreed to the rules
2:12
Speaker 4: we've set forth today. I will not be taking phone calls,
2:15
Speaker 4: but I will read text as long as they have
2:18
Speaker 4: to do with the duties of the Canawah County Commission.
2:20
Speaker 4: We're not going to get into personal attacks or because
2:23
Speaker 4: that's not the count of campaign that it's been. So
2:25
Speaker 4: if you'd like to text to the show with something
2:28
Speaker 4: for either candidate, I would prefer questions for both candidates
2:31
Speaker 4: that they can both answer. And again the Tony the
2:34
Speaker 4: Taylor texts three zero four nine three five five zero
2:37
Speaker 4: zero eight I talked. I've interviewed both candidates on the
2:40
Speaker 4: show prior to the primary and talked to them both
2:43
Speaker 4: since they won. Both of them vowed to run a
2:46
Speaker 4: positive campaign and, by gosh, you in the air of
2:48
Speaker 4: nasty rhetoric we've seen another raceist, particularly on the national level.
2:51
Speaker 4: Both have proved to be true to their words because
2:54
Speaker 4: my knowledge, neither has uttered a single negative comment about
2:56
Speaker 4: the other. And we're not going to start today. I'm
2:58
Speaker 4: gonna go start today. I want to give both candidates
3:01
Speaker 4: ample time to talk about themselves and their respective visions
3:03
Speaker 4: for the office of Knawah County Commissioner. And they'll be
3:07
Speaker 4: on for the first two segments. Charleston he or Amy
3:09
Speaker 4: Shuler Goodwin is she normally is on the first Monday
3:11
Speaker 4: of the month, will be in on the second part
3:13
Speaker 4: of the show. So thank you both for agreeing to
3:15
Speaker 4: do this. And I made much bigger deal about this
3:18
Speaker 4: than you guys did, because I said I'm gonna flip
3:20
Speaker 4: a coin, had to borrow a coin, thank you. Ron
3:23
Speaker 4: had to borrow a coin, and I said I would
3:26
Speaker 4: let whoever won the coin toss either either start off
3:30
Speaker 4: or defer to the end of the show. Both will
3:33
Speaker 4: get opening closing statements, but it's just a matter about
3:35
Speaker 4: who won. They they didn't make that big of a
3:38
Speaker 4: deal out of it. I did. Miss Tennant won the
3:40
Speaker 4: toss though Barn Square Toss, and so she has elected
3:43
Speaker 4: to defer until the second or the end of the show.
3:48
Speaker 4: So Chris, you're up. Hey, Chris Walters, Hey do man,
3:53
Speaker 4: Dave great, thank you, thank you for being here. And
3:56
Speaker 4: by the way, thanks to both of you for agreeing
3:58
Speaker 4: to do this. So so Chris, if you're going to
4:00
Speaker 4: start off, I want to you to just tell the
4:02
Speaker 4: people about about Chris Walters.
4:04
Speaker 6: Well, thank you for this opportunity, Dave, and also thank
4:07
Speaker 6: you Natalie for running such a positive race as well.
4:11
Speaker 6: You know, it's it's amazing in this time of age,
4:14
Speaker 6: in these days of politics, that two candidates that you know,
4:17
Speaker 6: I consider Natalie a friend. We've been positive with each other,
4:20
Speaker 6: positive two eaj oo. We've talked about our ideas, not
4:23
Speaker 6: gone negative on one another. Third, parties haven't gone negative
4:26
Speaker 6: one of either of us that I've seen in this
4:28
Speaker 6: race either. I mean, it's just been probably the best
4:30
Speaker 6: most positive campaign I've ever been a part of, which
4:33
Speaker 6: is just lovely because usually when you run, your whole
4:36
Speaker 6: family's on the ballot, your whole family's dealing with things,
4:38
Speaker 6: and you're having to go through a lot, and it's
4:41
Speaker 6: been great this time of year. A little bit about
4:45
Speaker 6: Chris Walters born and raised here in Kennall County. I
4:47
Speaker 6: love it here. My family. After we got done with college,
4:50
Speaker 6: my wife and I we moved here back to Charleston,
4:53
Speaker 6: decided to raise our kids here. We decided to because
4:57
Speaker 6: here we find Kennall County is someplace special. And as
5:01
Speaker 6: we've started our businesses and grown and been involved in
5:04
Speaker 6: the community, we've seen where Kannall County has a lot
5:08
Speaker 6: of great things, but is it a destination for families?
5:12
Speaker 4: And it's not.
5:13
Speaker 6: It doesn't have a lot of things for.
5:14
Speaker 4: Kids to do.
5:16
Speaker 6: And we've noticed this as we've grown with our kids,
5:18
Speaker 6: have one in high school, have one that's ten years old,
5:21
Speaker 6: and we look at events and things for them to
5:23
Speaker 6: go to, and you know, we say, hey, in Barbersville
5:27
Speaker 6: they've got Dave and Busters, they've got the indoor ski facility.
5:30
Speaker 6: In Clay County they have the rail Explorer on the
5:33
Speaker 6: abandoned railroad tracks. And Fayett County they have as adventure resorts.
5:37
Speaker 6: And what do we have in Kannall County. So my
5:40
Speaker 6: big thing on this campaign has been what can we
5:43
Speaker 6: do to bring kids joy here in Kannall County. When
5:47
Speaker 6: people come to Shawnee to do a soccer tournament, finish
5:50
Speaker 6: at ten am on a Saturday, and then Sunday is
5:52
Speaker 6: the next game, what are they going to do that afternoon?
5:55
Speaker 6: And I don't think Kannall County is competitive in keeping
5:58
Speaker 6: people here to do fun things. So that's why I've
6:00
Speaker 6: been about doing the Safari Park, doing year round snow tubing,
6:04
Speaker 6: doing mountain carting, and activities for families so they can
6:07
Speaker 6: discover Kannall County and see all the wonderful things they
6:10
Speaker 6: have here.
6:10
Speaker 7: All right, Natalie, thank you, thanks Dave, and thank you Chris.
6:15
Speaker 8: This has been fun, I mean, and we did continue
6:18
Speaker 8: it on because during the primary, neither.
6:20
Speaker 7: Of us knew if either of us was going to win,
6:22
Speaker 7: and so you know, we were out helping.
6:23
Speaker 8: Each other out and actually for trick or treating, his
6:26
Speaker 8: wife comes by Elizabeth AND's like, only a few more days,
6:31
Speaker 8: and of course I have no voice, and I say yes,
6:34
Speaker 8: and she's like, this has been the best race that
6:36
Speaker 8: he's ever been in and it says a lot about us. Yes,
6:40
Speaker 8: and Chris has done some really nice things that others
6:45
Speaker 8: in his party wouldn't go. I mean, he showed up
6:47
Speaker 8: to places that others didn't. And we may get into
6:51
Speaker 8: that a little bit later. And excuse me, we've been
6:54
Speaker 8: talking about that a lot.
6:56
Speaker 7: Not he doesn't. We've been talking about you, Chris.
7:00
Speaker 8: Well, I'm Natalie Tenant and I'm running for Kanaha County Commission.
7:03
Speaker 7: And as you said, I was Secretary of State for.
7:05
Speaker 8: Eight years and even before that as a television reporter,
7:11
Speaker 8: allowing and being able to tell the stories of the
7:13
Speaker 8: people of West Virginia, and that I felt was a
7:17
Speaker 8: public servants service.
7:19
Speaker 7: And this is a public service also. And now I do.
7:24
Speaker 8: Some consulting work on voting rights. I work as a
7:29
Speaker 8: facilitator or a mentor or a moderator rather because I
7:34
Speaker 8: like doing that. That falls into some of my reporting
7:38
Speaker 8: skills and things like that, and I just love it's
7:41
Speaker 8: the curiosity that I have in talking about various issues,
7:45
Speaker 8: and that's what I found as running for Kanagh County Commission.
7:49
Speaker 8: This has been amazing. And yes, people have said, oh,
7:52
Speaker 8: how's it different from running state wide? Well, I do
7:55
Speaker 8: generally sleep in my own bed at night instead of
7:57
Speaker 8: staying at the farmers staying at a hotel over in
7:59
Speaker 8: the eastern Pana Handle. But what it's also allowed me
8:02
Speaker 8: to do is like really have conversations with people about
8:08
Speaker 8: what their concerns are. I've talked about water issues, as
8:12
Speaker 8: I've said, when you go to a quick dinner and
8:14
Speaker 8: you're gonna find and Chris has been at some of
8:16
Speaker 8: these things too, when you go to these events. It's
8:19
Speaker 8: not just oh, I'm paying ten bucks to go eat
8:21
Speaker 8: ramps at the ramp quick dinner. No, that's where I
8:24
Speaker 8: learned about two more miles of city water was needed
8:29
Speaker 8: up in that end, and there's there's economic development that
8:32
Speaker 8: is taking place and that could continue with those two
8:35
Speaker 8: more miles. So that's why my focus is on infrastructure
8:39
Speaker 8: and the Internet. There's just no reason why we can't.
8:42
Speaker 2: I was.
8:44
Speaker 8: Campaigning one time in Nicholas County at the ramp man.
8:47
Speaker 8: I must go to a lot of ramp festivals and
8:50
Speaker 8: I was looking at these crafts and these creative things,
8:54
Speaker 8: and this guy said, Natalie, we got a lot of
8:56
Speaker 8: talent up here in these mountains. And I said, I know,
9:00
Speaker 8: have to be able to get that out and we
9:02
Speaker 8: do that through the Internet. So that's a focus of
9:05
Speaker 8: mine too. And you know, I agree that we should
9:10
Speaker 8: be a county that welcomes everyone, and I think that
9:14
Speaker 8: that's what we're starting to do. If a soccer field
9:17
Speaker 8: and a soccer complex brings people will so will so
9:20
Speaker 8: will Capital Sports Complex, But so will the Upper Kana
9:24
Speaker 8: Valley Recreation plan that is in the works and it
9:29
Speaker 8: needs to be worked a little bit more. I had
9:31
Speaker 8: the Mayor of Pratt say, Natalie, I'm done with planners.
9:35
Speaker 7: I need some doers.
9:36
Speaker 8: And I said, well, you're looking at one right now,
9:38
Speaker 8: and I will use what they have put out for
9:41
Speaker 8: eastern Kanaha County and.
9:43
Speaker 9: Add a lot.
9:44
Speaker 8: And I may still some of Chris's ideas if they're practical.
9:48
Speaker 8: If they're practically, we're able to do it.
9:50
Speaker 7: Right now.
9:50
Speaker 8: It's it's hiking and biking, and equestrian and and horse
9:55
Speaker 8: horse horseback riding tracks also, So those are some of
9:58
Speaker 8: the things. And that's why I'm running because I know
10:00
Speaker 8: that from the work and the deliverables that I had
10:03
Speaker 8: in the Secretary of State's office, whether it was online
10:05
Speaker 8: voter registration which we've used, whether it was making it
10:09
Speaker 8: easier to start a business for military and young professionals,
10:12
Speaker 8: whether it was saving money, I know that I have
10:14
Speaker 8: that ability to transfer it to the County Commission Office
10:18
Speaker 8: and bring my enthusiasm and my ideas and my energy
10:22
Speaker 8: to it. So that's why I'm running, and I'm looking
10:24
Speaker 8: forward to talking about some of the other things I've
10:27
Speaker 8: learned and which has led to other ideas and solutions.
10:30
Speaker 4: We're talking again with the two candidates for Kannawk County Commission.
10:34
Speaker 4: The Republican Chris Walters is of the Democrat. Natalie tened
10:36
Speaker 4: the day vallet showing five anyline brought to you apart

10:53
Speaker 4: last apprenticeships today. Natalie, you mentioned the Capital Sports Complax.
10:57
Speaker 4: So Chris, I'm going to go to you, where are
11:00
Speaker 4: you on the Capitol Sports Complex. I know that's a
11:02
Speaker 4: very broad question, but and I know it's not going
11:05
Speaker 4: to be just a four or against it or whatever,
11:06
Speaker 4: But what are your thoughts on on they propose Capital
11:09
Speaker 4: Sports Complex? Chris?
11:10
Speaker 6: So, whenever you look at the Capital Sports Complex, first
11:12
Speaker 6: it was supposed to have a pool and now it
11:14
Speaker 6: does not. The Capital Sports Complex the idea, I think
11:18
Speaker 6: is a really good idea because you're going to have
11:20
Speaker 6: interchangeable floors basketball, pickleball, volleyball, tennis, all types of changeable
11:26
Speaker 6: floors there, and then you also have them at the
11:29
Speaker 6: coliseum and convention Center where regional tournaments can come in
11:32
Speaker 6: play events at both facilities, whereas in other areas they
11:36
Speaker 6: may play basketball at one place and then drive forty
11:38
Speaker 6: five minutes to go to another place. The issue that
11:41
Speaker 6: there is with the Capital Sports Complex is the eighty
11:43
Speaker 6: million dollar price tag. The city they get money from
11:47
Speaker 6: a one percent sales tax. They get money from heads
11:49
Speaker 6: and beds for hotel rooms. They get money from the
11:52
Speaker 6: events that take place to help pay their forty million
11:55
Speaker 6: dollars of it. The county, we get our money from
11:58
Speaker 6: property taxes. We're going to own the property Dave. Additionally,
12:03
Speaker 6: there's not going to be enough venues and events to
12:05
Speaker 6: pay the loan on forty million dollars. If the existing
12:09
Speaker 6: commissioners can show me exactly how we can do it
12:12
Speaker 6: in a fiscally responsible way, let's do it. But right
12:15
Speaker 6: now I haven't seen how we can make those monthly payments.
12:19
Speaker 6: I have to see that before I can, you know,
12:21
Speaker 6: jump in all in to do it. There's a lot
12:24
Speaker 6: of great ideas that cost eighty million.
12:25
Speaker 4: Dollars, Dave.
12:26
Speaker 6: It's just can we afford it, and I hope so.
12:29
Speaker 6: I think it can be a great idea, but I
12:31
Speaker 6: haven't seen those numbers to be able to back it up.
12:33
Speaker 4: Natalie, where are you on a Capitol Sports complex?
12:35
Speaker 8: I am for the Capital Sports Complex and I'm as
12:40
Speaker 8: upset as anybody else about the pool because don't don't
12:43
Speaker 8: sell me something. And that's why I can't wait to
12:46
Speaker 8: get into convert real conversations with Commissioner Wheeler and Commissioner
12:50
Speaker 8: Slango and say what happened to the pool? We need
12:54
Speaker 8: we need this because we do have, you know, some
12:57
Speaker 8: other facilities of basketball courts and things like that, but
13:02
Speaker 8: we need to make sure that those facilities are there
13:04
Speaker 8: as well. And when you start on a project, yes,
13:09
Speaker 8: there has to be followed through on that. And I
13:11
Speaker 8: believe that it's it's part of economic development. The building
13:15
Speaker 8: of it is part of the economic development that brings
13:19
Speaker 8: more jobs and more revenue back into the county because
13:24
Speaker 8: here we go, you know, Chris talked about property taxes. Well,
13:27
Speaker 8: we do have a housing crisis. The more people that
13:30
Speaker 8: we can get come and live in Kanaha County with
13:33
Speaker 8: quality housing, then that helps to bring that economic development.
13:39
Speaker 8: And I think especially when building the Capital Sports Complex.
13:42
Speaker 8: We have to make sure that it is union built
13:45
Speaker 8: and it is with prevailing ways there there are there
13:49
Speaker 8: are examples, you know of things that have been built
13:53
Speaker 8: that weren't used, didn't use union workers, and then they've
13:58
Speaker 8: had to go back and build it again. And so
14:02
Speaker 8: having the having unions build it then helps to generate
14:06
Speaker 8: because this is we don't have one thing that's going
14:10
Speaker 8: to lift us up.
14:12
Speaker 7: And cure all.
14:13
Speaker 8: All of this works together of economic development with housing
14:17
Speaker 8: to bring people in and then to be able to
14:20
Speaker 8: have unions who are working who train people along the way,
14:25
Speaker 8: called apprentices. And I had the opportunity to talk to someone.
14:29
Speaker 8: I said, that's that's just a beautiful word. It's a
14:32
Speaker 8: kind word because it is an action where you are
14:36
Speaker 8: bringing someone in who is learning the skill and the
14:40
Speaker 8: process with someone who's wrapped their their arm around it
14:44
Speaker 8: and says, come along, we're going to teach you and
14:46
Speaker 8: we're going to pay you at the same time, and
14:48
Speaker 8: you're gonna have high expectations.
14:50
Speaker 4: All right, Uh we did. Actually I need to take
14:53
Speaker 4: a break. Did you have a follow up? Do you
14:54
Speaker 4: want to say to that?
14:55
Speaker 6: Chris, Yeah, yeah, I did. Dave so speaking about it, first,
14:59
Speaker 6: we received federal money for the project, so it would
15:01
Speaker 6: be under Davis Bacon if the project was being built,
15:05
Speaker 6: so it would be under that pre version of prevailing wage.
15:08
Speaker 6: But again, when it comes to the pool, South Charleston's
15:11
Speaker 6: building a brand new rec center with a pool, we
15:13
Speaker 6: could save tens of millions of dollars by tagging onto
15:16
Speaker 6: their project, working with the mayor South Charleston, getting a
15:19
Speaker 6: facility built there that really would service the needs of
15:22
Speaker 6: our community, putting a diving pool in there as well.
15:25
Speaker 6: I used to swim. I understand the sport really well.
15:27
Speaker 6: I know it's a huge sport for our area, a
15:29
Speaker 6: lot of travel and instead of adding it to the complex,
15:32
Speaker 6: we could easily do that tagging onto South Charleston's new
15:36
Speaker 6: recreational center. So there's a way to do the pool
15:38
Speaker 6: to take care of that community, which is really important.
15:41
Speaker 6: And again I still haven't heard how we're going to
15:43
Speaker 6: be able to pay for the complex. That's something I
15:45
Speaker 6: really want to hear, because again I'm I would love
15:48
Speaker 6: to do it, but we have to be physically responsible.
15:51
Speaker 4: All Right, We're going to take a break. The Dave
15:53
Speaker 4: Island showing five eighty Life has brought to you part
15:55

18:08
Speaker 4: We're talking to Chris Walters and Natalie Tenant, our candidates
18:11
Speaker 4: for Ganawah County Commission. Text to the show says, with
18:13
Speaker 4: the funding for the Yeager Airport Terminal updates secured, where
18:17
Speaker 4: do the candidates stand on the airport expansion into Coonskin Park.
18:21
Speaker 6: Chris, I'll start with you, Okay, Dave, thank you. First Off,
18:24
Speaker 6: I've got some really interesting insights on this. I am
18:27
Speaker 6: a pilot I five planes general aviation. It's something I
18:31
Speaker 6: really enjoy. First Off, the Yager Airport extension was not
18:35
Speaker 6: approved for funding by the federal government, so there's not
18:38
Speaker 6: going to be an expansion into Coonskin Park. So I'm
18:42
Speaker 6: really excited about what they're doing at the terminal, though,
18:44
Speaker 6: I mean, first look, first opportunity when you come into
18:47
Speaker 6: Kanawha County. We would love to show them how wonderful
18:50
Speaker 6: our area is. And we can really really show right
18:52
Speaker 6: there at the terminal all the great things we have
18:54
Speaker 6: to offer. You know, the airport is a pathway to
18:59
Speaker 6: economic development, getting as many people in here as possible.
19:02
Speaker 6: And on the County Commission, you have a board on
19:05
Speaker 6: the airport, a board seat there, and having a board seat,
19:07
Speaker 6: you work with airlines. You work to be able to
19:09
Speaker 6: get new routes, you work to be able to get
19:12
Speaker 6: direct flights. Our County Commission recently approved a direct flight
19:15
Speaker 6: to New York City, which a lot of people have
19:17
Speaker 6: wanted for a long time. I'd love to see other
19:19
Speaker 6: direct flights to other large cities to be able to
19:21
Speaker 6: bring people here and to give our people a route
19:24
Speaker 6: to different cities throughout the world. That's what I want
19:28
Speaker 6: to see with the airport.
19:29
Speaker 4: All right, Natalie, thank you.
19:32
Speaker 8: And actually I was just thinking about the New York flight,
19:35
Speaker 8: the first New York flight direct flight that we have
19:37
Speaker 8: from here.
19:37
Speaker 7: I was on the flight with your dad on matters
19:40
Speaker 7: and I was like, yeah, this is great, isn't it. Yeah?
19:43
Speaker 8: And then it was gone, well, I think that we
19:48
Speaker 8: should not be having the expansion. That was my concern
19:51
Speaker 8: even before the federal government said no, we're not going
19:53
Speaker 8: to do this, and I just I want to know more.
19:57
Speaker 8: I mean this, we're trying to bring people, and we're
20:00
Speaker 8: trying to make things open and welcoming, and to take
20:03
Speaker 8: coonskin away. Wash was a real concern over that. So
20:09
Speaker 8: I too think that having an airport, the terminal and
20:14
Speaker 8: having it upgraded, I think it was like eight million dollars.
20:17
Speaker 7: Then here's the other concern.
20:18
Speaker 8: Too, and I think it's starting to be addressed a
20:20
Speaker 8: little bit better with Kart. You come into there, and
20:26
Speaker 8: you know, we fly out and we go into larger cities,
20:29
Speaker 8: and we know that we're gonna be able to get
20:30
Speaker 8: a taxi, we're gonna be able to get an uber,
20:32
Speaker 8: and that's not necessarily been the case when flying out
20:35
Speaker 8: of Yager Airport. Now KRT has a system KRT Plus
20:40
Speaker 8: where you might be able to call and do that
20:42
Speaker 8: in advance. But I've had a situation where it's four
20:44
Speaker 8: in the morning and I need to get to the airport,
20:47
Speaker 8: and I've called in advance to the taxi and they
20:49
Speaker 8: come by, they call me and say we couldn't get
20:52
Speaker 8: someone in today. Sorry, we can't pick you up at
20:54
Speaker 8: four in the morning. Like, what are you supposed to
20:56
Speaker 8: do at that point? So if I've had to drive
20:58
Speaker 8: my car, maybe I should not say this. Of course
21:00
Speaker 8: my vehicles nobody wants to stealing, But I'll drive my car,
21:03
Speaker 8: leave the key in the car and ask a friend
21:06
Speaker 8: to go pick it up and pay for one day
21:08
Speaker 8: instead of four or five days. Now, that is a concern,
21:12
Speaker 8: and that's not very welcoming as someone comes in expecting
21:15
Speaker 8: in twenty twenty four to be able to have a
21:17
Speaker 8: ride share.
21:18
Speaker 4: All right, next question, and Natalie will start with you.
21:21
Speaker 4: Please ask the candidates what can be done from the
21:24
Speaker 4: county level to help with our out of control utility prices,
21:27
Speaker 4: specifically water and electricity. The more of our water rates
21:31
Speaker 4: go up, the worse our service gets. Our utility rates
21:33
Speaker 4: are out of control.
21:35
Speaker 8: Oh yeah, I understand that completely. And have we been
21:38
Speaker 8: anywhere Like, I don't know if we've been anywhere together,
21:42
Speaker 8: but we might have been to various meetings. You know,
21:46
Speaker 8: I was out at cross Lanes when the Union PSD
21:50
Speaker 8: was deciding whether they were going to go with what
21:52
Speaker 8: was swarching American water or not.
21:55
Speaker 7: And we need to stand up and fight for the residents.
22:00
Speaker 8: And it's a tough situation on both sides, because you
22:06
Speaker 8: have we have one hundred year old pipes and at
22:09
Speaker 8: some point they're going to need to be fixed up.
22:13
Speaker 8: And I don't think that we should be having to
22:16
Speaker 8: fix them up at two o'clock in the morning when
22:18
Speaker 8: the pipes have burst on the west side or water
22:21
Speaker 8: is not running in other areas of the county. And
22:25
Speaker 8: so that's what I'll do as a county commissioner is
22:28
Speaker 8: make sure and fight those same rate increases until I
22:31
Speaker 8: see is it truly helpful to the residents of the county.
22:36
Speaker 8: I mean, that's where we have to stand. And we've
22:39
Speaker 8: seen many of the county commissioners doing that already, and
22:43
Speaker 8: we have to make sure that these rates don't continue
22:46
Speaker 8: out of control.
22:47
Speaker 6: Chris, Yeah, So this all started in two thousand and
22:50
Speaker 6: six the law Whenever, the lawyer who advocated for rate
22:54
Speaker 6: increases for the water company was then appointed to the
22:56
Speaker 6: PSC and then became president of the PSC. Since he
22:59
Speaker 6: was pointed to that position, he oversaw all rate increases.
23:03
Speaker 6: Having come from working for the water company to advocate
23:05
Speaker 6: for rate increases. We saw our rates jump one hundred
23:09
Speaker 6: and fifty two hundred percent. The PSC is out of
23:12
Speaker 6: control whenever it comes to what our rates should be.
23:14
Speaker 6: Our people are being penalized every day by the cost
23:17
Speaker 6: of utilities. What I want to do is this. I
23:20
Speaker 6: want to go to the legislature. I want to have
23:22
Speaker 6: them give the County Commission the ability to do a
23:25
Speaker 6: one time rate reset where we audit the water utilities,
23:29
Speaker 6: all the utilities, see what the rates should be, and
23:33
Speaker 6: then once we get the information back from the audit,
23:36
Speaker 6: going ahead into a one time rate reset to put
23:39
Speaker 6: the rates where they should be. These are penalizing our citizens.
23:42
Speaker 6: We had the sixth highest water rates in the United
23:46
Speaker 6: States in Kennall County four years ago and we've seen
23:49
Speaker 6: rate increases since. Dave, we have more natural fresh water
23:54
Speaker 6: in West Virginia than almost anywhere else in the United States.
23:58
Speaker 6: It makes no sense. I am going to lead the
24:01
Speaker 6: forefront of fighting for utility rates to be brought down
24:04
Speaker 6: for all of our citizens. And not only does it
24:07
Speaker 6: hurt our residents, Dave, it hurts businesses from coming here.
24:10
Speaker 6: If you're a business that's a manufacturer and use a
24:13
Speaker 6: lot of water and you see that Kanall County has
24:15
Speaker 6: one of the highest water rates in the United States.
24:17
Speaker 6: Are they going to want to locate here? And then
24:19
Speaker 6: you look at our other utilities too, Is that going
24:21
Speaker 6: to make a business want to locate here? This deals
24:24
Speaker 6: with our residents. This deals with economic development, It deals
24:27
Speaker 6: with bringing jobs to Kanal County, and it's something I'm
24:30
Speaker 6: going to take very seriously.
24:32
Speaker 4: This next one actually kind of goes along with utilities
24:35
Speaker 4: to a certain extent, and it was a text from
24:36
Speaker 4: a first responder that said, if elected, how do both
24:39
Speaker 4: of you plan to implement public notifications to large scale emergencies?
24:44
Speaker 6: Chris, Yeah, Dave, we have the Kanall County Emergency app
24:49
Speaker 6: already that's available, but additionally getting out text to all
24:52
Speaker 6: the phones, we have the siren, working with people like you, Dave,
24:56
Speaker 6: and the media to help do announcements, whether it be
24:58
Speaker 6: on radio or TV, to be able to get as
25:00
Speaker 6: much information out to the systems as possible, utilizing social
25:04
Speaker 6: media where available, having it out of X, having it
25:09
Speaker 6: out on Facebook, really putting the notification out in so
25:12
Speaker 6: many ways to try to reach as many people as possible.
25:16
Speaker 8: Really, you know, at the end of the month, the
25:18
Speaker 8: last Wednesday, of the month we have the alarm that rings.
25:23
Speaker 8: That same kind of testing needs to take place for
25:27
Speaker 8: emergency alerts for the people to be and we just
25:34
Speaker 8: have to use the technology that we have. We have
25:37
Speaker 8: it all the time, We're on it all the time,
25:39
Speaker 8: whether it's on our wrist or whether it's on our hand.
25:42
Speaker 8: And it's interesting, I was actually at a conference in
25:47
Speaker 8: Hawaiian if you remember, this was about twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen,
25:51
Speaker 8: I on a West Virginia phone still was able to
25:55
Speaker 8: receive that alert that there was an emergency taking place.
26:00
Speaker 8: And certainly we should use all aspects of the technology
26:05
Speaker 8: and prepare for it and have testing for it so
26:08
Speaker 8: people can understand. But what does this go back to
26:10
Speaker 8: also when we talk about technology, I mean it's you know,
26:13
Speaker 8: it's a given we're going to use social media, TV, radio,
26:16
Speaker 8: all of those things. As a former television reporter, while
26:19
Speaker 8: we were getting the information in, the reporters and the
26:21
Speaker 8: photogs were running out to the site of the problem.
26:25
Speaker 7: But it gets back.
26:27
Speaker 8: Down to the internet. You know, when I go to
26:30
Speaker 8: Sistanville and someone says, please help us get internet up
26:33
Speaker 8: at Allen's Fork, Well, I mean that how are they
26:36
Speaker 8: going to get that same information if the Internet is
26:40
Speaker 8: not working well. The same with the outer county, the
26:44
Speaker 8: outer areas of the county. Now the state of West
26:46
Speaker 8: Virginia has one point two billion dollars one point two
26:50
Speaker 8: billion dollars with the bad program from the federal government
26:54
Speaker 8: and from this Biden Harris administration that's coming to West Virginia.
26:59
Speaker 7: And so finally and we have to get it right.
27:02
Speaker 7: We can't have the.
27:03
Speaker 8: Same frontier mistake or the same Internet mistake on money
27:07
Speaker 8: that we had in two thousand and nine when we
27:09
Speaker 8: got twenty two million, and we thought that was a
27:11
Speaker 8: lot at the time.
27:12
Speaker 7: Now we have one point.
27:13
Speaker 8: Two and we need to be able to hit every
27:16
Speaker 8: area of the county like nothing should be dark anymore.
27:20
Speaker 8: We are past that and that's how the first responders
27:23
Speaker 8: can also feel comfortable in having part of their work
27:28
Speaker 8: being taken care of.
27:30
Speaker 4: Is the two part question that a textra had And Natalie,
27:32
Speaker 4: I'll start with you. On top of previous successful efforts,
27:35
Speaker 4: what more can the Commission do to expand outdoor tourism
27:39
Speaker 4: in Kanawha County?
27:41
Speaker 14: Oh?
27:41
Speaker 8: I mean, there's so many I mean, and you point
27:44
Speaker 8: to it's not just the Commission that is doing it.
27:48
Speaker 8: It is the towns and the unincorporated areas themselves, but
27:54
Speaker 8: mostly the towns. I mean, I'll start at Clendennon where
27:58
Speaker 8: I mean I was up there, Chris was up there
28:00
Speaker 8: twenty sixteen and it was just I mean devastation because
28:04
Speaker 8: of that flooding. And to see it now, to see
28:08
Speaker 8: the the resurgence, to see the hope and the determination
28:15
Speaker 8: you have. I mean I've gone up there. I mean
28:17
Speaker 8: we you know, we talk about the things that I mean.
28:19
Speaker 8: They opened up the a new bike track up above
28:24
Speaker 8: Clandennon to come down into the into the town. There's
28:28
Speaker 8: the Kellendon and Brewing that has bingo every night and
28:32
Speaker 8: they let my dog come in with me, so I
28:34
Speaker 8: was really happy about that. And just the town is
28:38
Speaker 8: being revitalized. We see that the Roxy Theater. So that's tourism.
28:42
Speaker 8: That's That's something that Chris even talks about. After an
28:46
Speaker 8: event is taking place, what is else is there to do? Well,
28:50
Speaker 8: after you've gone to the rails and trails and the
28:52
Speaker 8: Elk River trail, then you come down to Clandennen. The
28:55
Speaker 8: same with with Nitro. Are we gonna help Nitro? Or
28:58
Speaker 8: is NITROA took care of themselves when they had the pickleball.
29:02
Speaker 8: Now they want covered pickleball courts. Imagine that heated and cooled,
29:06
Speaker 8: all all at the same time. So that's that's what
29:09
Speaker 8: we need to expand on, and we need to make
29:12
Speaker 8: it part of economic development. And then we throw that
29:16
Speaker 8: word out a long time.
29:17
Speaker 3: What does it?
29:17
Speaker 7: What do I mean by economic development?
29:20
Speaker 8: Well, with Upper Canaal Valley Recreation Plan that I do
29:23
Speaker 8: talk a lot about, but but it is it is
29:26
Speaker 8: a physical thing that you can look at if you
29:28
Speaker 8: had an equestrian trail up there, or a horseback riding trail.
29:32
Speaker 8: I saw a young woman at an innovation conference and
29:35
Speaker 8: she had portable, a portable tack box. Not a tackle box,
29:40
Speaker 8: but a tack box. And Chris, you know this because
29:43
Speaker 8: your daughter rides horses, right, and the tack box is
29:45
Speaker 8: the is the you know, all the equipment that you
29:47
Speaker 8: need to fix, maybe the shoes on the horse. Well
29:50
Speaker 8: she made it portable. Well, right, there's the start of
29:53
Speaker 8: her economic development business from a college student who can
29:57
Speaker 8: be part of that economic development for the recreation area
30:01
Speaker 8: up there. And I could I could talk more and more.
30:04
Speaker 8: We know out in Tornado they had the single we
30:06
Speaker 8: now have the largest single track trail meaning motorcycle and
30:11
Speaker 8: electric bicycles east of the Mississippi. So what's that going
30:14
Speaker 8: to do that's going to bring people in and maybe
30:16
Speaker 8: you go there, you go, you go to a soccer tournament,
30:19
Speaker 8: and then you just go head out to Tornado and
30:22
Speaker 8: go ride your electric bike on that trail. I mean,
30:24
Speaker 8: there's there's so many things that that we can interact
30:27
Speaker 8: with with what we already have, and that's you know,
30:30
Speaker 8: that's why you get out and about and learn things
30:32
Speaker 8: from people and go visit places.
30:33
Speaker 6: Chris, Yeah, two things.
30:35
Speaker 4: First.
30:35
Speaker 6: I want to start with broadband expansion. To answer from
30:38
Speaker 6: the last question. You know, when I was in the
30:41
Speaker 6: legislature as a senator, I created the Broadband Development Council
30:45
Speaker 6: because money was being used so fraudulently. The Broadbrand Development
30:48
Speaker 6: Council oversees all grants that come into the state of
30:50
Speaker 6: West Virginia. They're not people that's part of the internet
30:53
Speaker 6: service providers. They are actual people in communities to ensure
30:57
Speaker 6: broadband gets out to the right places. I have a
30:59
Speaker 6: broadband ex mansion plan for Kanall County and it follows
31:02
Speaker 6: what South Charleston did. South Charleston took.
31:04
Speaker 4: Their ARPO money.
31:05
Speaker 6: They then built broadband to every single house in South Charleston,
31:09
Speaker 6: partnering with an Internet service provider, and now every house
31:12
Speaker 6: in South Charleston has Internet at five hundred megs for
31:16
Speaker 6: about forty bucks a month. They have the fastest, most
31:19
Speaker 6: reliable internet in the state of West Virginia. I want
31:22
Speaker 6: to use this one point two billion dollars to be
31:25
Speaker 6: able to build fiber to every home in Kanawl County
31:28
Speaker 6: to give you all affordable Internet services that is faster,
31:33
Speaker 6: more reliable than anywhere else in the state of West Virginia.
31:35
Speaker 6: And as a county commissioner, I'd be applying through the
31:38
Speaker 6: Broadband Development Council to try to get those funds for
31:40
Speaker 6: Kannall County. Now speaking about outdoor activities for our kids,
31:45
Speaker 6: this is something I've really focused on. Natalie and I
31:48
Speaker 6: have both spoken at multiple high schools, and whenever I go,
31:51
Speaker 6: the first question I asked kids are what do you
31:53
Speaker 6: do for fun? What do you do in Kannaul County?
31:55
Speaker 6: And I say, what about Skylone. They say, well, a
31:58
Speaker 6: lot of middle schoolers go there, that's the age race
32:00
Speaker 6: for that, but as high schoolers, we have nothing. Dave,
32:03
Speaker 6: when I was a kid here, I got dropped off
32:05
Speaker 6: at the mall with twenty bucks. All right, I'd walk
32:08
Speaker 6: around the mall see people, and then I'd go over
32:10
Speaker 6: to the movies at Park Place Cinemas, watch a movie,
32:13
Speaker 6: and then get picked up by my parents. That's what
32:15
Speaker 6: we had.
32:15
Speaker 4: The kids don't even have that.
32:17
Speaker 6: When we talk about outdoor activities for kids, we need
32:20
Speaker 6: to talk about utilizing our hillsides. We have so many
32:24
Speaker 6: wonderful hillsides that can be seen from the interstate. That's
32:27
Speaker 6: why I've talked about year round tubing, which is essentially
32:30
Speaker 6: a rubber horizontal mesh that you put on a hillside
32:33
Speaker 6: and people can tube down all year round. I'd love
32:36
Speaker 6: to see that at Coonskin Park. I've talked about a
32:39
Speaker 6: Safari park, which just takes a hillside. You fence in
32:42
Speaker 6: the hillside, you take a dozer and make a dirt road.
32:45
Speaker 6: You put in lawmas EMUs, highland cows, ostriches, and give
32:49
Speaker 6: feedbuckets to people to go feed these animals. Not only
32:52
Speaker 6: will that bring people off the interstate, give our local
32:55
Speaker 6: kids stuff to learn about animals, but our veterinarians will
32:58
Speaker 6: get the expertise and take can care these types of animals,
33:01
Speaker 6: and then you create medical tourism to Kanall County. Beyond that,
33:05
Speaker 6: I've talked about mountain karting and what that is. It's
33:07
Speaker 6: kind of like a soapbox derby that snakes down the
33:10
Speaker 6: side of a mountain and you race your friends like
33:13
Speaker 6: Mario Kart. There's no engine on these types of devices
33:16
Speaker 6: you sit on, and we'd be the first county in
33:19
Speaker 6: the United States to offer mountain karting. You just put
33:23
Speaker 6: the little place for a phone to be on top
33:25
Speaker 6: of a helmet, kids record it, put it on TikTok,
33:28
Speaker 6: and there's your marketing campaign right there. Everyone want to
33:31
Speaker 6: stop in Kanall County to do that. I really want
33:34
Speaker 6: to bring people off the interstate. I want to do
33:35
Speaker 6: a lot of things for the kids. That's what I've
33:37
Speaker 6: really ran on it. I think it's important because we
33:40
Speaker 6: can be a family destination unlike any other here in
33:43
Speaker 6: Kanall County.
33:44
Speaker 4: All right, guys, I did not get to all the
33:46
Speaker 4: text questions. I apologize, but in the interest of time,
33:49
Speaker 4: I'm going to have to move on. I'm going to
33:50
Speaker 4: give you each sixty seconds as your closing statement, and
33:55
Speaker 4: so Chris, I'm going to start with you and then Natalie,
33:58
Speaker 4: you'll get the final final word, Chris. Why should people
34:01
Speaker 4: vote for Chris Walters for Kennaugh County commission.
34:04
Speaker 6: Well, first, I want to thank you. I want to
34:05
Speaker 6: thank my family, my wife Elizabeth, for supporting me along
34:09
Speaker 6: the whole way. I mean, this is really a marathon.
34:11
Speaker 6: It takes a lot of time effort to be able
34:13
Speaker 6: to get out get your message across. I think whenever
34:16
Speaker 6: you look at the Walters for Commissioner campaign, you have
34:19
Speaker 6: to look at what I've really focused on. I've focused
34:21
Speaker 6: on creating fun activities for our kids in the community.
34:24
Speaker 6: You know, we have low cost of living, We got
34:26
Speaker 6: good jobs here in Kanall County. We need to bring more,
34:29
Speaker 6: which I'll work to do. We've got other great things
34:32
Speaker 6: that you love about Kannall County. We just need to
34:34
Speaker 6: add the one thing about making things for our kids
34:37
Speaker 6: to make it a destination. I've talked about how I
34:39
Speaker 6: want to help seniors at age sixty five, I think
34:42
Speaker 6: that's the last time a tax assessor should come to
34:44
Speaker 6: your house, and from there your tax rate would be
34:47
Speaker 6: frozen so that you know every year what your property
34:50
Speaker 6: taxes will be, that they won't increase every single year,
34:53
Speaker 6: and you can budget for those property taxes instead of
34:56
Speaker 6: having to wonder what it will be. With our high
34:58
Speaker 6: cost of living. Right now, we need to help our
35:00
Speaker 6: senior citizens, and I have a plan to do that.
35:03
Speaker 6: I've worked in legislature on broadband. I implemented Child's Right
35:06
Speaker 6: to Nurse so that nursing mothers can't be kicked out
35:09
Speaker 6: a restaurants sort of housing the Senate. I also opened
35:12
Speaker 6: up our down tail seconds to allow the outdoor dining.
35:16
Speaker 6: But thank you all so much for the time. Thank
35:18
Speaker 6: you Natalie, Thank you Dave, Chris Walters. I'd appreciate your
35:21
Speaker 6: vote for County Commissioner Natalie Tenant.
35:23
Speaker 4: Why should people vote for Natalie.
35:24
Speaker 8: Tenn Thank you Chris, and thank you Dave for having us.
35:26
Speaker 8: I'm running for Kanawa County Commission to be that servant.
35:29
Speaker 8: I'm running because I'm not afraid to put out ideas.
35:33
Speaker 8: I'm not afraid to look for solutions. One thing that
35:36
Speaker 8: we didn't get we talked about that I thought that
35:38
Speaker 8: we might is the homelessness and the panhandling that takes
35:43
Speaker 8: place on our street, not just our streets of Charleston.
35:46
Speaker 8: But I've found that this concern happens in paint Creek
35:49
Speaker 8: in Marmette, and so I went to the source. I
35:52
Speaker 8: went and I talked to about four or five people
35:55
Speaker 8: who are houseless homeless. They didn't really give me their
35:59
Speaker 8: definition of what they want to be called. But that's
36:05
Speaker 8: the type of leader that I am. I'm not going
36:08
Speaker 8: to talk around things and give generalities, but I'm going
36:11
Speaker 8: to go and say this is what they're saying to me.
36:14
Speaker 8: Like we have the quick response teams that are helping
36:17
Speaker 8: some folks who are out on the streets, and we
36:21
Speaker 8: can continue to do that. And I just I'm working
36:25
Speaker 8: with all kinds of folks for their issues and presenting
36:28
Speaker 8: their issues like water, infrastructure, budgeting, and internet. And I
36:36
Speaker 8: bring those ideas and that enthusiasm, and I bring results
36:39
Speaker 8: of what I've done in the Secretary of State's office.
36:42
Speaker 8: And so I ask folks to please consider me Natalie
36:44
Speaker 8: Tenant for knaugh County Commission.
36:46
Speaker 4: I'd appreciate your vote, all right, guys, and I appreciate
36:48
Speaker 4: you both being here. Thanks a lot. It is nine
36:50

Speaker 12: I like your new digs like this. Yeah, these were
39:27
Speaker 12: really nice.
39:27
Speaker 4: And it's only temporary. You know, we're going to be moving,
39:29
Speaker 4: you know, to a to a bigger studio with Did
39:33
Speaker 4: you a chance listen to any of the debate?
39:35
Speaker 16: I did?
39:35
Speaker 14: And the thing that I will say, am I okay, Yeah,
39:38
Speaker 14: you're okay here. The thing that I will say is
39:41
Speaker 14: I'm so glad to hear two people who are running
39:46
Speaker 14: against each other not throwing punches. It's such a it's
39:52
Speaker 14: it's refreshing. It used to be in the day that
39:54
Speaker 14: we used to be able to maybe not have the
39:56
Speaker 14: same ideas or maybe not be able to agree on something.
40:00
Speaker 14: It'll be civil. Those are two people who are just
40:03
Speaker 14: really good folks obviously, And uh, look I told him
40:08
Speaker 14: about the public servant should be about by the way,
40:12
Speaker 14: I don't want someone yelling and screaming. I just simply
40:15
Speaker 14: don't that's me personally. I just don't want somebody yelling
40:18
Speaker 14: and screaming about something that's a distract you know, distracting
40:23
Speaker 14: technique that people use. I mean, I think your listeners
40:26
Speaker 14: are smart enough to know that's what people do. Right
40:28
Speaker 14: when they're either down in the polls, or when they're confused,
40:32
Speaker 14: or when they're they just start yelling and screaming and
40:34
Speaker 14: you know what, I call it spinning right, twirling around.
40:38
Speaker 14: You don't get that with those folks, Thank goodness.
40:40
Speaker 4: As they told me Mayor, they both told me when
40:42
Speaker 4: they when they want to respect their primaries, they said,
40:45
Speaker 4: it's going to be a clean campaign, nothing negative. And
40:48
Speaker 4: I said, oh, that's really good. You're both all well,
40:52
Speaker 4: I've known and it's and it's it's been just that.
40:56
Speaker 4: And I told him upstairs, I said, now, guys, it's
40:58
Speaker 4: been a clean campaign. Don't screw it up here.
41:00
Speaker 8: Uh.
41:00
Speaker 4: And the two of them left together. I took a
41:03
Speaker 4: picture of them while posting social media. I said, because
41:05
Speaker 4: sometimes Canadas don't want to even be They say yeah,
41:08
Speaker 4: and they're like all hugged up, like you know, like
41:10
Speaker 4: like like.
41:10
Speaker 14: You know, like theation. Yeah, I've known Natalie since I
41:13
Speaker 14: was eighteen years old. I went to West Virginia University
41:16
Speaker 14: and I was in a story with Natalie, So I
41:19
Speaker 14: have known Natalie and then I went into student government.
41:22
Speaker 12: But I've known her since I was eighteen years old.
41:24
Speaker 14: I've known Chris Walters since Goshi Whiz, I mean for
41:28
Speaker 14: twenty five years maybe, and his beautiful wife Elizabeth, and
41:32
Speaker 14: his two sweet children. They're just ready.
41:34
Speaker 7: They're just good people.
41:35
Speaker 12: So thank thank goodness for all of us. But anyways,
41:38
Speaker 12: how are you.
41:38
Speaker 4: I'm doing good. I'm doing I was listening because.
41:40
Speaker 12: I'm always interested. I mean, you know, they're obviously there.
41:43
Speaker 14: It is of interest to us, you know, obviously in
41:46
Speaker 14: the Mayor's office in the City of Charlestown because we
41:49
Speaker 14: fortunately have a really really good relationship with the Kenall
41:53
Speaker 14: County Commission.
41:54
Speaker 4: And you have to I mean well, I mean say,
41:56
Speaker 4: it makes it a lot better when you when you do.
41:58
Speaker 14: Yeah, when I got there, I remember everybody saying, oh,
42:01
Speaker 14: this is going to be uh, you know, you're going
42:03
Speaker 14: to have to you know, fist fight with them all
42:05
Speaker 14: the time.
42:05
Speaker 7: As it's not.
42:07
Speaker 12: It's simply not.
42:09
Speaker 14: I work probably the closest with Ben Selango, but Lance
42:12
Speaker 14: Wheeler they do it, they do a really really good
42:14
Speaker 14: and then Mark Slot nek. I mean, if you can't
42:16
Speaker 14: get along with s Mark.
42:17
Speaker 4: Slot, there's with you. You said you had a couple
42:21
Speaker 4: of the big announcements and we ran a little long
42:23
Speaker 4: on the debate. But I'm going to give you an
42:24
Speaker 4: opportunity because I have a question from the news team
42:27
Speaker 4: that they wanted me to ask you to. But I
42:28
Speaker 4: have a feeling you're going to cover that. Give me
42:29
Speaker 4: a couple of big.
42:30
Speaker 14: Announcements maybe, And it really ties in with exactly what
42:33
Speaker 14: Chris and Natalie we're talking about, you know, with the
42:36
Speaker 14: Upper Canal Recreation master Plan. We were awarded on Friday
42:41
Speaker 14: six hundred and eighty thousand dollars from the TAP grant
42:46
Speaker 14: for the.
42:46
Speaker 12: Elk River Trail project. This project is.
42:49
Speaker 14: Going to include construction for a new pedestrian and bike
42:52
Speaker 14: pathway from the existing trail of the Kanaal and Elk River.
42:55
Speaker 14: So it'll kind of combine the two and connect the two.
42:58
Speaker 14: And why is that important? Well, as you well know,
43:01
Speaker 14: we received twenty five million dollars from our fabulous United
43:04
Speaker 14: States Senator Shelley Moore Capitau and our fabulous United States
43:08
Speaker 14: Senator Joe Manchin to literally redesign and reimagine the boulevard.
43:14
Speaker 14: This is just another piece, and this will also help
43:17
Speaker 14: connect us to the Elk River. And you know Tom
43:20
Speaker 14: Lane and I were texting back and forth. Everybody knows
43:23
Speaker 14: Tom Lane, former City Council member.
43:24
Speaker 12: This is his dam.
43:26
Speaker 14: Trails are so important to West Virginia and to our vitality.
43:32
Speaker 14: And oh, by the way, travel tourism. Let me tell
43:34
Speaker 14: you something right now, people want to go and they
43:37
Speaker 14: will stay in a hotel that is on the river
43:41
Speaker 14: bank that they know they can bring their bike and
43:43
Speaker 14: they're walking shoes or running shoes and coming the guys
43:47
Speaker 14: from TC Energy. That's the hotel they stay. And they
43:50
Speaker 14: like to stay on the river front because they're runners.
43:52
Speaker 14: It is a big marketing thing for us. Just go
43:54
Speaker 14: ask Tim Brady from the CVB. But what's important is
43:59
Speaker 14: can take I'm doing this development of trails. Yesterday my
44:02
Speaker 14: husband and I were on the trails. We announced this.
44:07
Speaker 12: Gosh, she was Dave two weeks ago.
44:09
Speaker 14: The Jones family, Callen Jones mcjunkin donated acres and acres

Speaker 14: in South Hills. My husband and I did two and
44:23
Speaker 14: a half miles of yesterday or last early evening.
44:26
Speaker 12: It's absolutely gorgeous. By the way it was packed. It
44:29
Speaker 12: was packed with people. That's what people want.
44:32
Speaker 16: It is.
44:33
Speaker 14: Yes, it's a travel destination, but it's also quality of
44:37
Speaker 14: life that you can have that many miles of beautiful
44:41
Speaker 14: trails in your backyard. It's something big, it's something different
44:45
Speaker 14: that we have that other cities don't have.
44:48
Speaker 4: So welcome to Charleston, Mary Amy shoot were good when
44:50

49:55
Speaker 14: media as well, and also we do robo calls as well,
49:59
Speaker 14: we do texting as well. We're really fortunate to have
50:03
Speaker 14: a really good communications team in our office because these
50:07
Speaker 14: are calls that we get every day. And if you
50:10
Speaker 14: do want to talk, or you do have questions about

50:20
Speaker 14: you can just send them in to Dave if you
50:22
Speaker 14: want to, though, ask a couple more detailed questions or
50:26
Speaker 14: have a conversation three four eight eight one seven four
50:29
Speaker 14: three four eight eight one seven four if we if
50:33

50:34
Speaker 14: certainly text Dave, but sometimes from.

Speaker 14: nice to have that connection. But I will also note
51:24
Speaker 14: that we are as our plan with city Center at
51:27
Speaker 14: Slack Plaza in the Business Improvement District. Part of the reason, yes,
51:31
Speaker 14: not just to create and revitalize downtown. And I'm very
51:34
Speaker 14: proud of our team that we did just that. That's
51:37
Speaker 14: the center of the city. If you and I Dave
51:39
Speaker 14: took a little drone up and started looking that city
51:42
Speaker 14: center is important to make that center the city rob

51:57
Speaker 14: hub and spoke, right, all of those folks, how am
52:00
Speaker 14: I getting from pillar to post? Those are the things
52:02
Speaker 14: that are important and certainly in our master plan.
