Emergency Pod: Dolphins Release Tua Tagovailoa — The End of an Era · The Fish Tank: Miami Dolphins Tales From The Deep

0:00
[SPEAKER_03]: you're now diving into the fish team.
0:26
[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome back to an emergency episode of the fish tank.
0:32
[SPEAKER_00]: Presented by Van Hornelog Group and Casabelle Design Group, Seth Levitt, not in the Casabelle Design Group studios.
0:37
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm in the office because it is an emergency episode of the emergency makes it sound like something that didn't die or.
0:43
[SPEAKER_00]: But it's an emergency nonetheless, because I think the dolphins are in a state of emergency and we already knew this.
0:50
[SPEAKER_00]: But here I am joined by the man with the best hands in the podcast business.
0:56
[SPEAKER_00]: big news today and we want to get into it in just a moment, but we also can't do this without introducing the MIA Jason producer, our guy, the legendary Savak, so we had to pull Savak off the streets.
1:09
[SPEAKER_00]: He was literally in the streets.
1:11
[SPEAKER_00]: We had to pull him back into the studio here to discuss this.
1:14
[SPEAKER_00]: When did you find out the news, O.J.
1:16
[SPEAKER_00]: McDuffee, that, uh, well, I guess the dolphins informed
1:25
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, man, you know, the phone starts blowing up.
1:28
[SPEAKER_04]: Situation's like this, this isn't like a, you know, a pooch punner or, you know, a long snapper got released.
1:34
[SPEAKER_04]: You know, this is, you know, your franchise quarterback that you invest a lot of money in, top five pick in, and, you know, when you, when that news hits, everybody around the world that I know,
1:46
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, no I'm much I love the dolphins.
1:49
[SPEAKER_04]: Well, what a see if I found everybody want to be the first ones of break the news, because yeah, you know that is man, you know It was the first one to break the news
1:56
[SPEAKER_04]: Well, they all broke at the same time because I was away from my phone.
2:00
[SPEAKER_04]: So there was like six, seven, 10 messages.
2:03
[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm trying to think, who was the first one in the timeline or actually the last one, you know, when the timeline that hit me up, man, but you know, man, it's a, you know, it's, there's a lot of people out there that were, like you said, talking about this, expecting this, but man, when it hits, it really, like, damn, this is real, we'll let it two go, you know.
2:23
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
2:24
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
2:24
[SPEAKER_00]: No doubt.
2:25
[SPEAKER_00]: What about you, Savak, when did you, or did you just find out when we texted you?
2:28
[SPEAKER_00]: When did you find you?
2:30
[SPEAKER_00]: I just found out.
2:33
[SPEAKER_01]: I just found out when I was not plugged into that at all.
2:36
[SPEAKER_01]: As I told you guys before, uh, when I was out on a walk, I didn't even have my phone on me.
2:41
[SPEAKER_01]: So I walked into this news.
2:44
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, well, so if you haven't, here it is, here's from John Eric Sullivan.
2:48
[SPEAKER_00]: The Miami Dolphins New General Manager, I recently informed I, right?
2:52
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not a wee, I recently informed too, and his representation that we are going to move in a new direction at the quarterback position and we'll be releasing him after the start of the new league year.
3:02
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, this is not in the quotes, but the new league year starts at 4pm this Wednesday, March 11th.
3:08
[SPEAKER_00]: So, as I shared with two, I have great respect for the person in play areas.
3:11
[SPEAKER_00]: On behalf of the Miami Dolphins, I express our gratitude for his many contributions.
3:15
[SPEAKER_00]: Both on the field in the community during his six seasons of Miami, as we move forward, we will be focused on infusing competition across the roster and establishing a strong foundation for this team.
3:26
[SPEAKER_00]: As we work towards building a sustained winner,
3:29
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, if you go back and look at your timeline, Savak, you're going to see the dolphins posted a thank you to a graphic and then follow that with a one minute long thank you to a video well done video there by Mike Millius and the team I'm assuming it was it was Mike and the content team over there and then to also had a really nice post on his two a man Instagram that you don't see a lot from but he
3:56
[SPEAKER_00]: He had a very well thought out post.
3:58
[SPEAKER_00]: So it sounds to me like these conversations we're being had.
4:00
[SPEAKER_00]: They chose today as the day to announce the news, which is probably smart.
4:05
[SPEAKER_00]: Get out in front of it.
4:06
[SPEAKER_00]: Why wait until Wednesday and just drop it when there's everything else going on?
4:09
[SPEAKER_00]: This will allow the media cycle to digest it for two days.
4:12
[SPEAKER_00]: And then hopefully Wednesday can be about
4:14
[SPEAKER_00]: new players that are being brought into the Miami Dolphins.
4:17
[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so, and it, and not a surprise in the sense that we knew it had gotten to this point, but I got to tell you, and for me, I was in the car, I dropped my son off for school, I was listening to our buddy Joe Rose, and they started playing the, the, the, not a non-non-nom music, and, uh, yeah, yeah, yeah, they're harsh right there, and it's harsh.
4:35
[SPEAKER_00]: It was harsh, but, you know, this whole thing has been harsh, and so I, I'm, I'm, um,
4:41
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a little in my feelings.
4:43
[SPEAKER_00]: I tweeted that it hits different when it becomes official.
4:46
[SPEAKER_00]: And not because I am saddened or feel badly for Tua, necessarily.
4:52
[SPEAKER_00]: Because it's not that, Tua's gonna be fine and Tua has changed his family's trajectory for generations now, with the contract that he received
5:07
[SPEAKER_00]: I just, and I'm not mad that the decision was made.
5:10
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was the right move one way or another that had to move on from to a, but it just was like, okay, and we know all of this.
5:17
[SPEAKER_00]: You've had a general manager that was fired midseason.
5:20
[SPEAKER_00]: You had a head coach that was fired the day after Black Monday.
5:23
[SPEAKER_00]: We've got to do head coach.
5:24
[SPEAKER_00]: You've got a new general manager clearly moving in a different direction, but this was like the final,
5:30
[SPEAKER_00]: shoe dropping to remind you of the just absolute organizational failure that was the rebuild the tank for to the 2020 draft there's one player left from that 2020 draft now that will be on the roster as far as we know that could change as well and that's Austin Jackson and he's missed far too many games for player this age and and importance to the roster
5:57
[SPEAKER_00]: You've had, you're now on your third head coach since that 2020 draft, okay, your second general manager since that 2020 draft.
6:07
[SPEAKER_00]: He's drafted guy fifth overall and he's being coached by the fact the head coach that you just just fired who's now is off as a coordinator and they just picked up out of King gold, but that's another subject for another day.
6:19
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's just an absolute failure.
6:21
[SPEAKER_00]: It's an absolute failure and it's and we knew that like that didn't change today, but it was just this last minute reminder, you know, we were just kind of rinsing the taste of all of this out of our mouths and and then unfortunately we had to get through this and
6:36
[SPEAKER_00]: and it was inevitable, but that's how I feel this morning.
6:39
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know about you guys.
6:41
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, you know, big stuff, you had to mean, honestly, we're in a such a bad situation in so many ways, you know, quarterback play obviously wasn't very good.
6:49
[SPEAKER_04]: salary recap, hell, obviously, that as well, some other players that are disgruntled that had high cap values that, you know, that, you know, they might have been producing, but where they worked their weight and go, you know, at the same time, and, you know, you can talk about two or two, Kyle's come home, man, but that was, that was a colossal mistake, you know,
7:09
[SPEAKER_04]: from something from the beginning.
7:11
[SPEAKER_04]: in 2020 with the draft and some definitely fill that four years later when he got the extension that he got.
7:17
[SPEAKER_04]: Sure.
7:18
[SPEAKER_04]: And so it's been, you know, it's been a tough deal and of course we've had some tools done some really, really nice things, but as a quarterback, as we talk about the time the most important position in sports, he didn't do enough, you know, you could put everything up by all the offensive line, oh, they didn't have this, I don't, I see quarterbacks do
7:40
[SPEAKER_04]: you know me and that was that was really to his downfall to his inability to to to lift the team up every single week and put them on their backs and go on to a fourth quarter and feel like you know we were in a win this game because two of us are quarterback that's a mindset that permeates you know through the whole building.
7:57
[SPEAKER_04]: You know, and that wasn't what I we felt, you know, of course he has some splashed plays, you know, or some splashed games, but for the most part, if I go into a game and I've got Josh Allen at quarterback or I've got Lamar Jackson at quarterback.
8:10
[SPEAKER_04]: If I got somebody's other great court, you know, staffer, I noted, of course, I got a chance to come out there with a win.
8:17
[SPEAKER_04]: How often do we fill that way with two at quarterback?
8:21
[SPEAKER_04]: And it's not a knock on him, man.
8:26
[SPEAKER_04]: The game was safe with us having to go down and get a score or you know us have to you know come from behind you know on the fourth quarter.
8:35
[SPEAKER_04]: I just never felt that way and that's a bad feeling that and you know me we you know.
8:42
[SPEAKER_04]: We know we love to as a person.
8:44
[SPEAKER_04]: We love to in the community man.
8:45
[SPEAKER_04]: But we're about to might be dolphins, man.
8:47
[SPEAKER_04]: And we're about trying to find a way to win championships.
8:50
[SPEAKER_04]: Not when a couple games win championships.
8:52
[SPEAKER_04]: And you know, and then you said it best, man, when you get a new regime, man, I mean, a lot of things change a lot of mean.
9:00
[SPEAKER_04]: Hell, like I talked about a lot of times on our podcast, you know, when Jimmy Johnson came in,
9:05
[SPEAKER_04]: Danny was the only one that was safe from that old roster and then a lot of guys were gone just like just like this.
9:11
[SPEAKER_04]: A lot of guys were gone, you know, and I think of Jimmy had his way Danny would have been going to, you know, I mean, if you had his way, that's my opinion, you know, that's my opinion.
9:32
[SPEAKER_04]: The June one designation is one thing, but I mean, you have to cut bait at some point, man.
9:38
[SPEAKER_04]: What are you going to do?
9:40
[SPEAKER_04]: Some people say, well, you should have let him, you know, come in and compete for the job.
9:43
[SPEAKER_04]: Two is not the same tour that we saw, come out Alabama.
9:46
[SPEAKER_04]: He's not the same tour we saw on 2223.
9:49
[SPEAKER_04]: He's not the same tour.
9:50
[SPEAKER_04]: And I don't think he will get back to being the same to him.
9:54
[SPEAKER_04]: Too much has happened physically for him to be the same guy, man.
9:57
[SPEAKER_04]: And that's frustrating.
9:58
[SPEAKER_04]: I know, because injuries are a part of game, man.
10:01
[SPEAKER_04]: But man, when you've got such a high ceiling or, you know, pretty high ceiling that he had and all of a sudden, you know, your skills diminish like that, it's tough, especially for an athlete that's played at a high level.
10:13
[SPEAKER_04]: But like you said earlier, Big Seth,
10:16
[SPEAKER_04]: He'll be all right.
10:17
[SPEAKER_04]: He will be just a good generation of wealth.
10:19
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
10:20
[SPEAKER_04]: He parlayed that into that man.
10:21
[SPEAKER_04]: And I think that no matter what, you know, two is going to get another job somewhere.
10:27
[SPEAKER_04]: But, you know, his best, his best bet might be like some of the guys we've had on this program.
10:32
[SPEAKER_04]: They, some of them don't mind holding a clipboard big set.
10:35
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe a clipboard.
10:36
[SPEAKER_04]: We don't want to get it for sure.
10:37
[SPEAKER_04]: Exactly right.
10:39
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
10:40
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
10:40
[SPEAKER_00]: It's, um,
10:42
[SPEAKER_00]: it's just an interesting dynamic all together and you're right if he never throws the football again in an NFL game which I don't think will be the case I think he's going to want to continue to play but if he decides he and his family decide that they don't want to pursue this as their lifestyle any longer he he won a national championship.
11:03
[SPEAKER_00]: said all kinds of records and college ball.
11:05
[SPEAKER_00]: It was a number five overall draft pick $200 million that he was able to bring to his family because of football.
11:14
[SPEAKER_00]: And he led the NFL in passing.
11:15
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not like, you know, I don't think that he can sit there and say, boy, I didn't accomplish X Y or Z.
11:23
[SPEAKER_00]: Although I know that every player, every player,
11:25
[SPEAKER_00]: shoot Tom Brady's probably wishing that he had won nine instead of seven right he's probably right more upset about the two we lost the Eli Manning than the seven that he won but um i you know who knows what's going through to his head but i will say that the time the chapter the book the end the story all of that had closed here for them to have kept him on board
11:50
[SPEAKER_00]: I think the only reason you would have done that was to say, well, we're going to pay him $100 million over the next two years.
11:56
[SPEAKER_00]: And we might as well try and get some some work out of the guy.
11:59
[SPEAKER_00]: And I just don't know that that would have been a healthy way to start the season for this new regime.
12:04
[SPEAKER_00]: I just think that that would have been very difficult.
12:06
[SPEAKER_00]: There would have been so many things swirling around.
12:09
[SPEAKER_00]: Does he come in, you know, he ended last season as the number three quarterback.
12:14
[SPEAKER_00]: Does he come into this season, you know, trying to unsee Quint viewers like what does that look like?
12:20
[SPEAKER_00]: I think they had to make this move is my thought.
12:23
[SPEAKER_00]: But since the move has been made and speaking of it, it's potentially a busy day over there, even though technically they can't really do anything until Wednesday.
12:32
[SPEAKER_00]: Savoc, the other thing that was reported is that the dolphins have agreed to trade, make a Fitzpatrick, to the New York Jets for a seventh round draft pick.
12:41
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so so Minka you potentially could see him twice a year.
12:45
[SPEAKER_00]: He'll be over there with Aaron Glenn and my guy Mason Taylor and and the dolphins pick up a 7th round pick my contention is the dolphins still on that trade.
12:56
[SPEAKER_00]: So if everybody wants to dog on the dolphins and Chris Greer and people that were John Smith got released flat out.
13:02
[SPEAKER_00]: There was no trade ability there.
13:03
[SPEAKER_00]: He also got paid that 12 million bucks that they weren't going to pay him here.
13:06
[SPEAKER_00]: and I thought Minkham Fitzpatrick had a better season.
13:09
[SPEAKER_00]: And any brought some leadership to a defense that really needed it last year, even though, again, the results were not what anybody wanted.
13:16
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's the Minkanus by, you know, by comparison.
13:19
[SPEAKER_00]: It is minuscule to the two annus.
13:22
[SPEAKER_00]: So I think it is our last opportunity here to reflect on the era that was the two era.
13:30
[SPEAKER_04]: I want to ask Savaco, what do you think?
13:34
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, what, Savak, what do you think about the two of situations today, and two of us career here, because we didn't get a chance to really, you know, we haven't really topped it up much about it.
13:44
[SPEAKER_00]: We're trying to compose ourselves, you see, literally, he was the most out there.
13:48
[SPEAKER_04]: I was like, I want to, I gave him a little more, I gave him a little time to see.
13:51
[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, he's got 14 dogs, by the way, too.
13:53
[SPEAKER_00]: So he was on the wall with 14 dogs on the leash.
13:56
[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully he's that leash on the bad boy.
13:58
[SPEAKER_01]: So I was time for him to come for him, frankly.
14:04
[SPEAKER_01]: It's unfortunate.
14:05
[SPEAKER_01]: It's, you know, obviously as a fan, we're sad to see it in this way, you know, whenever any player, especially quarterback, it's drafted and one that's expected to become the new franchise quarterback, you want the world of them.
14:17
[SPEAKER_01]: You want him to come in and be the savior and take this franchise to where I have not seen it go in my, you know, in my life.
14:27
[SPEAKER_01]: the last 34 years.
14:28
[SPEAKER_01]: So it's sad to see it in this way.
14:30
[SPEAKER_01]: But we knew it was coming.
14:32
[SPEAKER_01]: We have to move on.
14:33
[SPEAKER_01]: The era has come to a close.
14:35
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I, I was one of the people and people, they, everyone called me crazy for saying it back then.
14:41
[SPEAKER_01]: But I had kind of already started turning the page on it after 2023.
14:47
[SPEAKER_01]: Because it's like, yeah, that was an incredible year.
14:49
[SPEAKER_01]: But what did we, what did it yield us?
14:52
[SPEAKER_01]: It didn't get us any closer to our overall goal.
14:55
[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
14:57
[SPEAKER_01]: And that told me everything I needed to know.
15:00
[SPEAKER_01]: Unfortunately, what we had was not enough to do what we were trying to do.
15:04
[SPEAKER_01]: And I do agree with you.
15:07
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that juice put it probably the best.
15:11
[SPEAKER_01]: How it usually works on this show.
15:13
[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
15:14
[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever.
15:15
[SPEAKER_01]: That's such a way with words, you know, he's got it.
15:17
[SPEAKER_01]: He knows what to say.
15:20
[SPEAKER_01]: But just like he said, you remember that one incredible playoff game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills.
15:27
[SPEAKER_01]: where they were just going back and forth and it came down to like what 10 15 seconds on the clock or Patrick Mahomes to drive down the field in the score.
15:35
[SPEAKER_01]: I remember watching that game and thinking to myself, I cannot see to what doing that.
15:42
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
15:42
[SPEAKER_01]: And so that it's exactly that, you know, he just he was good.
15:47
[SPEAKER_01]: You at times he even teedered on great, but it just wasn't enough.
15:52
[SPEAKER_01]: And I do wish and well, I'm glad he made his money.
15:56
[SPEAKER_01]: Go, you know, take care of your family.
15:58
[SPEAKER_01]: That's awesome.
15:59
[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm sure he will always have a job on a college game day or something, you know?
16:05
[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, it was time.
16:09
[SPEAKER_04]: He's gonna guess appear maybe for it out of the game.
16:11
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, he got to be out there on the sideline radio or something.
16:15
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know why you don't think you can do it.
16:18
[SPEAKER_01]: They got Tim Teebo out there doing it.
16:20
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but Tim is true that it's really good.
16:22
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, on camera.
16:24
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not saying it true isn't our ticket.
16:25
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm just saying 10 is deep man.
16:27
[SPEAKER_04]: I know it's not no a deep thinker man.
16:29
[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's got a little mic was was rough man, especially his life couple years.
16:34
[SPEAKER_00]: Two at the mic was a little bit crazy.
16:36
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean we're playing games in Jerusalem for crying out loud.
16:39
[SPEAKER_00]: That's fair.
16:40
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was a good deal.
16:41
[SPEAKER_00]: Crazy work.
16:43
[SPEAKER_00]: Crazy work.
16:45
[SPEAKER_00]: It gets attention.
16:47
[SPEAKER_00]: This is true.
16:48
[SPEAKER_00]: This is true.
16:49
[SPEAKER_00]: So what I'd like to do is kind of go around the table here, guys.
16:52
[SPEAKER_00]: And let's, uh, I want to hear each of your, and, and, you know, if you'll allow, I'll interject as well, but I want to, let's discuss our favorite two moments.
17:03
[SPEAKER_00]: And then let's talk about our least favorite two moments.
17:07
[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know, um, you know, do you want to do favorite first or least favorite?
17:12
[SPEAKER_00]: Do you want to end on a high note?
17:13
[SPEAKER_00]: Should we end on a high note?
17:14
[SPEAKER_00]: No.
17:17
[SPEAKER_04]: All right, no, that's not the, I mean, this is, it's on us.
17:21
[SPEAKER_00]: So in that case, we'll start with favorite.
17:23
[SPEAKER_00]: Let's let Savak, you should Savak, you kick it off.
17:26
[SPEAKER_00]: What was your favorite moment of the tour tongue of Iloa era here in Miami?
17:31
[SPEAKER_01]: We obviously have to go with that Denver game in 2023.
17:35
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that was when the offense, that was when it peaked.
17:38
[SPEAKER_01]: That was the top of their game.
17:40
[SPEAKER_01]: Tour was on fire.
17:42
[SPEAKER_01]: I think he played a damn near perfect game.
17:45
[SPEAKER_01]: That was also just as much had to do with the Devon HN who had a 200-200-yard game, but beyond him it was the Tula and Tyreek Show.
17:56
[SPEAKER_01]: And they demonstrated what that offense could be, what his potential ceiling was and really how feisty they could be.
18:04
[SPEAKER_01]: And unfortunately, they just weren't able to sustain that.
18:08
[SPEAKER_01]: But during that game, boy, that was a moment to be a Dolphins fan.
18:12
[SPEAKER_01]: Wasn't it?
18:13
[SPEAKER_01]: has just watched and then go up and down on them.
18:17
[SPEAKER_01]: They absolutely dominated Denver and all it just about every facet of the game.
18:21
[SPEAKER_00]: And that, it gave me such a line celebration Savak, the whole thing, right?
18:27
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
18:28
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
18:29
[SPEAKER_01]: That was second only, my second favorite only to the, the roller coaster.
18:34
[SPEAKER_00]: That was really good.
18:36
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that was really good.
18:37
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that was really good.
18:38
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go next juice just because I think I know what your favorite moment is.
18:42
[SPEAKER_00]: And that might even want to end on.
18:44
[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm going to go to his to his rookie season.
18:49
[SPEAKER_00]: And even though I think there were, you know, some more electro well.
18:52
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if more electric.
18:53
[SPEAKER_00]: But.
18:54
[SPEAKER_00]: his rookie season at Arizona and we know that there was a lot of controversy of when he got the star and and Fitzpatrick was benched and fits cried to the media and was very popular here and and to a may not probably wasn't ready yet and you know certainly there was all of the the animosity between to a and and Brian Flores but if you go to that Arizona game which
19:21
[SPEAKER_00]: kind of ironic that, you know, both Kyla Murray and to a tongue of a low of these two young, exciting quarterbacks that you thought would be two of the faces of the league for some time, or at least, you know, that's what both cities we're hoping for.
19:35
[SPEAKER_00]: Our both guys that we're going to collect.
19:37
[SPEAKER_00]: hundreds of millions of dollars for not playing football for the teams that are given them that money in this next season But you know, that that was a come from behind victory on the road all the things that that we just haven't seen of recent years here, but to a place in that game and he looks athletic He's making big plays both with his legs and with his arm
20:04
[SPEAKER_00]: and then in the fourth quarter, you know, the dolphins are down by a touchdown and two of brings them back first with an 11-yard touchdown pass to a bare-footed Mac Hollins to tie the game and then put some team position for Jason Sanders.
20:20
[SPEAKER_00]: who also is no longer a Miami Dolphin to bang in a 50-yard field goal and they win that game and you just thought like this is why you draft the guy, fit them overall.
20:30
[SPEAKER_00]: This is what you want.
20:31
[SPEAKER_00]: You want a quarterback that can do those things.
20:33
[SPEAKER_00]: This is why you start that kid over the veteran because you need to see that he can do these things.
20:38
[SPEAKER_00]: You need him to develop that.
20:40
[SPEAKER_00]: You need the team to get behind them, the city to get behind them.
20:43
[SPEAKER_00]: All of those things were happening but as we as we saw
20:51
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that's another good one big set.
20:53
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going with, um, I remember his day like it was kind of like we just said he's looked it up today.
20:59
[SPEAKER_04]: It's all coming back.
21:00
[SPEAKER_04]: It's all coming back now, you know.
21:02
[SPEAKER_04]: Um, but September of 2022, me, you and Travis are in the green room getting ready to do post game at some point, you know, for for the team.
21:12
[SPEAKER_04]: And we're planning it's the Baltimore Ravens involved in more.
21:16
[SPEAKER_04]: And we're getting our really getting our bus kit.
21:19
[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, we really were.
21:21
[SPEAKER_04]: The Mark Jackson still running against us right now, I think, and we haven't stopped him yet.
21:27
[SPEAKER_04]: But to a, you know, and that he's got Hill, he's got Hill.
21:32
[SPEAKER_04]: You know, what he did in that fourth quarter in that game, you know, ended up throwing for what he threw for four hundred sixty nine yards and six touchdowns in that game, and most of that was done in the fourth of the court.
21:43
[SPEAKER_04]: I was just talking about earlier that we didn't feel comfortable or confident until we're getting it done.
21:48
[SPEAKER_04]: He, he was amazing in that.
21:50
[SPEAKER_04]: Now, Tyreek Hill was running by a guy with two or still putting it on him.
21:54
[SPEAKER_04]: You know, it was still making the throws and making the plays man and those are the those that that's my favorite moments ever right there for To I mean, I thought no win right one if you have seen us sprint to the studio Savocta because it's like a mile away from we were watching in the green room We just couldn't believe that we came back
22:14
[SPEAKER_04]: And one that game and that was probably me that moment right there was just was just really special early in the season, you know, so we're like, all right, we, if we can do that against Baltimore in Baltimore, we got some special here, we knew the offense is going to be pretty damn good and it was pretty good for a couple years until it wasn't.
22:31
[SPEAKER_04]: You know, and so I think that moment itself, man, at Baltimore game, those six touchdowns, 469 yards in that fourth quarter come back.
22:39
[SPEAKER_04]: That was a lot of fun.
22:40
[SPEAKER_04]: Winner to Jay and Water, you know, with 14 seconds left, that was just a special game for two of us.
22:48
[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
22:48
[SPEAKER_00]: I couldn't agree more.
22:50
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that was, my guess is if we tried to, you know, how they redraft.
22:54
[SPEAKER_00]: If we are, you know, they do the, if we redrafted that, that draft today, I think if we all picked again, we might all have that as our number one.
23:02
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that was probably his finest moment as a
23:10
[SPEAKER_00]: talking about him retiring after 15 years and championships and so on and so forth.
23:15
[SPEAKER_00]: We're talking about him being released and being paid almost $100 million to go away so to speak.
23:22
[SPEAKER_00]: And that means that there's got to be some low moments as well.
23:25
[SPEAKER_00]: Should we run it back the other way around?
23:27
[SPEAKER_00]: Who wants to go first?
23:28
[SPEAKER_04]: I'll go first.
23:29
[SPEAKER_04]: Because this is still a thing's big set.
23:33
[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean?
23:38
[SPEAKER_04]: to a on Christmas damn date same year 2022 you know I gave them all the own flowers for that early get early season game now we're a Christmas time because the Green Bay Packer they're all just come to town and we're up twenty to ten and a half time you know teams playing pretty well and then the next thing you know we
23:59
[SPEAKER_04]: to a completely wet the bed.
24:01
[SPEAKER_04]: Honestly, 300 steps in the fourth quarter, you know, 300 steps in the fourth quarter.
24:06
[SPEAKER_04]: I know he has some concussion issues at that point with speculations all about, but damn it.
24:11
[SPEAKER_04]: 300 steps is just definitely gonna lose your football game and sure his hell I did lose.
24:16
[SPEAKER_04]: I did we lost 26 to 20 or something like that.
24:19
[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not sure what the final score was, but we lost.
24:21
[SPEAKER_04]: But that wasn't the problem for me, Savak.
24:24
[SPEAKER_04]: He has me with the post game interview from Tua.
24:29
[SPEAKER_04]: terrible, terrible, terrible format.
24:32
[SPEAKER_04]: He gets on the mic phone and and whispered by, I hope everybody has a a Merry Christmas, you know, go home with you.
24:38
[SPEAKER_04]: I say, bro, I was here for your Christmas.
24:41
[SPEAKER_04]: This was my Christmas.
24:43
[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean?
24:44
[SPEAKER_04]: This was my Christmas.
24:45
[SPEAKER_04]: So, you know, I think it goes back to some of the microphones stuff, man.
24:48
[SPEAKER_04]: He's really been so upset in that game after that loss.
24:51
[SPEAKER_04]: That's what doing what he did.
24:52
[SPEAKER_04]: But he was, he was all right with it, man.
24:55
[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
24:55
[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, externally he was all right with it, internally it might have been different.
24:59
[SPEAKER_04]: But the wish has a Merry Christmas.
25:02
[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, my Christmas is already ruined, man.
25:04
[SPEAKER_04]: That's the worst Christmas of my life, Savar.
25:07
[SPEAKER_04]: The two of that stole O.J.
25:09
[SPEAKER_00]: McDuffie's Christmas.
25:11
[SPEAKER_00]: So that was the low point for O.J.
25:14
[SPEAKER_00]: McDuffie.
25:15
[SPEAKER_00]: For me, it was also an off-the-field, well, off, yeah, I guess, kind of off-the-field moment.
25:22
[SPEAKER_00]: And this came after the big contract, the 50-year option, the dolphins, could have exercised that.
25:32
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, two of came out through the ball one day and practice and then it then we got the hold in the speculation I think panic kicked in on for a couple people that also no longer are employed by the Miami Dolphins and they convinced Stephen Ross to sign the largest contract in Miami Dolphins history at two hundred and something million dollars.
25:53
[SPEAKER_00]: This is not the show where we're going to quote numbers and all that stuff.
25:55
[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
25:56
[SPEAKER_00]: But we all, you know, it was.
25:58
[SPEAKER_00]: in the $200 million range.
25:59
[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of money.
26:00
[SPEAKER_00]: There was beyond a lot of money.
26:02
[SPEAKER_00]: And it was quite frankly unnecessary.
26:05
[SPEAKER_00]: And then, you know, injuries followed, concussions followed, and declining play followed, and here we are.
26:14
[SPEAKER_00]: But after he signed that deal, and the dolphins had their first open practice of that training camp.
26:22
[SPEAKER_00]: And everybody was fired up because Tua was going to be in camp.
26:26
[SPEAKER_00]: We got our guy.
26:28
[SPEAKER_00]: Tua non was in full force.
26:30
[SPEAKER_00]: The stands were filled at the Baptist Health Training Facility.
26:34
[SPEAKER_00]: And Tua comes walking out in the red jersey.
26:37
[SPEAKER_00]: And they hand them the mic to hype up the fans and he hits us with
26:42
[SPEAKER_00]: show me the money show me the money guys and man I know that you know I sound old and broken it's probably because I am but I just feel like I know it rubbed me the wrong way I know a lot of our friends in the media and former players were rubbed the wrong way and I think a lot of fans were rubbed the wrong way because yet a lot of hardworking people many of whom might have been taken
27:07
[SPEAKER_00]: to be there.
27:08
[SPEAKER_00]: And, and everybody cheered because I think they were just so caught up in the excitement, but it seemed to me like, you know, kind of, there was a lack of awareness there.
27:18
[SPEAKER_00]: I know it was a dare allegedly by another guy who's no longer employed by the mind of dolphins and dare and bevel, but
27:25
[SPEAKER_00]: you know, you kind of want your quarterback, that's a management position.
27:31
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a forward facing, facing the organization position, and I think there has to be a certain amount of maturity in that moment, and it just kind of lacked all of that.
27:41
[SPEAKER_00]: And then unfortunately, it seems like
27:46
[SPEAKER_00]: that was really just beyond that comment, we kind of saw a different tour from that point.
27:53
[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not just talking about the guy on the field.
27:54
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm talking about the way he carried himself, some of the things he would say about other people.
27:59
[SPEAKER_00]: There's been rumblings that things might have been different inside the building, you know, but this isn't
28:05
[SPEAKER_00]: kind of a rumor mail here, but I just thought that that was the tip of the iceberg, and it was a real turn-off, and you went from a guy that was one of the more likable guys, probably in the National Football League, to a guy who slowly became less and less likable with some of those things, and so that was a low moment for me.
28:25
[SPEAKER_01]: A strongly agree with that, because I think that all of us agree that hey, we like when the guys have fun by all means, you know, enjoy yourself.
28:34
[SPEAKER_01]: Learn how to read the room, have situational awareness, and then if you are going to do things like that, back it up when you go back to it.
28:43
[SPEAKER_00]: Right, and we're still showing it to him.
28:46
[SPEAKER_00]: He's still showing them the money.
28:48
[SPEAKER_00]: So now this, we don't know, we discussed this.
28:50
[SPEAKER_00]: So pull on the curtain back a little bit for those of you who are watching this or listening to it.
28:56
[SPEAKER_00]: As we said, we pulled Savak right off of the walk, made him run home and get inside
29:01
[SPEAKER_00]: And like, hey, man, we got some news to share with you.
29:03
[SPEAKER_00]: We got to make sure you join us here.
29:05
[SPEAKER_00]: So we discussed a little bit of what we were going to talk about here.
29:08
[SPEAKER_00]: Just gonna have no idea what his low point was.
29:11
[SPEAKER_00]: So I am anxiously awaiting the low to a moment was.
29:17
[SPEAKER_01]: See, I got to be that guy and say, honestly, the moment he was drafted.
29:25
[SPEAKER_01]: Because my thing is I had never really bought into the whole tank for two of us thing.
29:30
[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't like the idea of it.
29:32
[SPEAKER_01]: And then from the moment he took that last injury and dislocated his hip, he was off of my draft point.
29:39
[SPEAKER_01]: So I was not even on board with taking him at that point.
29:43
[SPEAKER_01]: But of course, once the team drafted him, that's our guy.
29:46
[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
29:47
[SPEAKER_01]: And he had my support.
29:48
[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, that was that was the low point right there.
29:51
[SPEAKER_00]: Wow, so were you were you a Herbert did you think Herbert should have been the guy or did you want something else?
29:58
[SPEAKER_01]: I think I would have preferred Herbert, but there was something about his demeanor.
30:03
[SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't super sold on Yes, I was kind of wrong there, but Yeah, so what is it?
30:10
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm the Jordan love guy.
30:11
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm the Jordan love guy.
30:13
[SPEAKER_01]: I kind of like I kind of like Jordan love too
30:15
[SPEAKER_01]: at five.
30:17
[SPEAKER_01]: Not at five.
30:19
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, not at five.
30:21
[SPEAKER_04]: You don't have to pick it in at five.
30:22
[SPEAKER_04]: You didn't hell, where'd he go at 20 something?
30:24
[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
30:25
[SPEAKER_04]: So it's a way to move.
30:26
[SPEAKER_04]: We're nothing.
30:26
[SPEAKER_00]: We're not to stay there and choose you can confirm this because it's easy to say now at this point.
30:31
[SPEAKER_00]: But I was adamant that at that point because I had three picks in that first round.
30:37
[SPEAKER_00]: that pick whichever quarterback I don't know who was the right guy to have the injury history and he was smallish and then Herbert had all the physical tools but you really didn't know he didn't he didn't have the same level production and there was all this stuff about his leadership abilities people didn't go to his birthday party or whatever nonsense that was and so I was like look
30:57
[SPEAKER_00]: you guys are the experts again pay millions of dollars to make these decisions whoever you think is the right guy out of those two because you have to get a quarterback at that position take him take that person and then in with your third pick I want to either love or I've always been a big jail in hurts guy and I know people have fill your role in their eyes and what have you I just I've always been a big jail in hurts guy I just think that there's a second two quarterbacks in the first round.
31:22
[SPEAKER_00]: two quarterbacks in the first round and I was saying that and you were telling me you can't do it, you can't do it and I was pointing to Dallas in 89 where they took both acumen and Steve Walsh and they figured out which was their guy and which guy they could get trade value for and it's exactly what they did before Walsh, you know, Walsh played in the league, but he wasn't.
31:43
[SPEAKER_00]: valued at what they got for him once he started playing football.
31:47
[SPEAKER_00]: And so I just thought, you know, if they had picked one of those two guys, and then had two young quarterbacks that were all highly regarded, it's just such an important position.
31:57
[SPEAKER_00]: It was such an important draft.
32:00
[SPEAKER_00]: It potentially couldn't have been a turning point for this organization.
32:02
[SPEAKER_00]: And unfortunately, it turned just again in the wrong direction.
32:06
[SPEAKER_00]: So that was my thought.
32:07
[SPEAKER_00]: Good one, Savak.
32:08
[SPEAKER_00]: Man, just I didn't see that coming.
32:10
[SPEAKER_00]: No, I did not even.
32:11
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I didn't think I would.
32:15
[SPEAKER_00]: You got me with that one.
32:16
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's the story.
32:17
[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of other things to talk about.
32:19
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm still really bummed about this Alec angle situation, not just personally, but I, you know, I saw such a great leader within that building.
32:30
[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, you're talking about a few million dollars.
32:32
[SPEAKER_00]: I just, I understood the reasoning behind it.
32:35
[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't like it.
32:37
[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, and I mean, it's big stuff.
32:40
[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, we have to trim so much fat.
32:42
[SPEAKER_04]: Everybody's thinking it's a Malik move.
32:44
[SPEAKER_04]: So who knows what all this is going on there.
32:47
[SPEAKER_04]: But, you know, and honestly, you know, as we put a button on this whole thing, if all this is a Malik move, that tells you exactly what the guys from Green Bay and how they feel about Malik Willis.
32:59
[SPEAKER_04]: And that's, that means a lot to me if they feel that way about him.
33:03
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's a great point, Jason, and you know, Dave Hyde, our buddy, Dave Hyde, the great award winning columnist for the South Florida Sun Sentinel, wrote a column over the weekend about how if he's like, look, I don't know if that's the guy and we haven't seen enough and people talking about the money he's going to command, but if they believe that he's the guy, then they need to do everything they can to try and get him.
33:23
[SPEAKER_00]: because it's just to even if you put yourself in a bad position in the front end, it's as we're seeing now with what's happening today and this news and to having to be released, it's just too important of a position to hope that you find a guy if you believe that that can be the guy.
33:41
[SPEAKER_00]: So we shall see potentially more emergency episodes coming up and, you know,
33:49
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, you know, you don't lose any games, but it was I just it was too much of a reminder of games lost of seasons lost of decades lost But that's where we're at.
33:59
[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, we will Wednesday be back on the Dolphins talk YouTube page for Fish Tank Live and That'll be a big one because my guess is there'll be a lot of news not just in Nashville football league in general, but but right here in Miami.
34:13
[SPEAKER_00]: Come Wednesday That's right anybody thanks for diving in
34:18
[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm gonna pin that piece of tape.
34:23
[SPEAKER_03]: Who that?
34:24
[SPEAKER_03]: Fitting down with self-living stuff.
34:25
[SPEAKER_03]: I would say, true, true, true, true, true.
34:28
[SPEAKER_03]: This is strictly for them true big offense.
34:31
[SPEAKER_03]: Number one, one, of course, y'all.
34:32
[SPEAKER_03]: This ain't holdin' that wrist once, y'all.
34:34
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm gonna pin that piece of tape.
34:38
[SPEAKER_03]: Don't get so awkward on it.
34:39
[SPEAKER_03]: It's time to dab a pin that piece of tape.
34:44
[SPEAKER_03]: It's on your legendary talking when you dab a pin that piece of tape.
