- 0:00Hey, happy International Podcast Day. I thought I would do a fun quick episode
- 0:04just on some trivia about this podcast and podcasting in general.
- 0:09First of all, did you know where the word podcast came from?
- 0:12It came from the iPod and broadcast.
- 0:16So people could listen to broadcasts on their iPod and it was coined in 2004.
- 0:22So we've had podcasts since I guess 2004.
- 0:25And right now, the current statistic, it's kind of crazy, over 584 million people
- 0:33worldwide listen to podcasts.
- 0:34That's more people than the United States and Europe combined. That is a lot of people.
- 0:40So Indonesia has the most podcast listeners per population.
- 0:4442% of Indonesian citizens listen to podcasts.
- 0:50That's way above the global average, which is about 22% of people listen to podcasts.
- 0:56If you listen to podcasts, you probably say comedy is your favorite.
- 1:0122% of listeners say that comedy is their favorite.
- 1:05But catch this, 25% of listeners actually listen to health and wellness podcasts.
- 1:13True Crime is also way up there. It has 30% of downloads.
- 1:19So people say that they like comedy, they listen to True Crime the most,
- 1:23but they also listen to health and wellness a lot.
- 1:27Most podcast listeners open their podcast app between five and seven times a week.
- 1:33A lot of them binge eight episodes at a time, and that's over an hour a day
- 1:39for listeners, depending on how quickly you listen, I'd be interested to hear
- 1:44how you listen to podcasts.
- 1:46Do you listen at one time? Do you listen at 1.5 speed? Do you listen at double
- 1:51speed? What is your preference?
- 1:53My preference is double speed. And occasionally I do look around the.
- 2:02My brain has adapted and I could listen faster.
- 2:06All right. So 70% of podcast listeners subscribe to at least three shows.
- 2:12And virtually every podcast listener listens on their mobile phone.
- 2:16All right. So some of the stats about the Health with Hashimoto's podcast specifically.
- 2:22I already told you 127 countries is where this has been listened to.
- 2:29Now, some of those are only one play. About 10 of the countries,
- 2:33it's just been played once.
- 2:36For example, Uzbekistan has one play.
- 2:39Belarus, one play. But there's a lot of other places that listen more. So Pakistan, Cuba.
- 2:46Honestly, I didn't even know that Cuba could get podcasts, but evidently they
- 2:50do. And there is a listener in Cuba. So if that's you, hi.
- 2:54Iraq. I have a listener in Iraq, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt,
- 3:02Kuwait, Malaysia, Vietnam, Austria, Portugal, Russia, Ukraine,
- 3:08Brazil, Greece, Switzerland, Romania.
- 3:11My top five countries, or let's go top 10 in order.
- 3:17Number one is United States, then Canada, United Kingdom, Australia,
- 3:22Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, Netherlands, Sweden, and Mexico.
- 3:27Those are the top 10 countries where I'm talking to, where I have listeners,
- 3:33which just blows my mind to understand that I am sitting here in my office slash
- 3:42homeschool room talking into my microphone,
- 3:45and you are listening maybe in the United States,
- 3:49maybe in Spain, maybe in the Philippines.
- 3:52I don't know. It's so crazy.
- 3:55Come over to either Instagram and send me a DM.
- 3:59I am healthwithhashimoto's. There's a dot in between each word.
- 4:03Or come over to our school community and tell me where you listen from.
- 4:07And tell me a little bit about your listening habits.
- 4:10All right. So the biggest thing you can do for any podcast is rating or reviewing.
- 4:16Now, this varies based on platform.
- 4:19So if you're listening on Apple Podcast, you can do both. You can just give
- 4:23it stars, or you can give it stars and a review.
- 4:26Both are helpful. And quite honestly, my podcast, the Health with Hashimoto's
- 4:31podcast, needs more ratings and reviews on all platforms. All of them.
- 4:36On Spotify, you can't write a review, you just give it stars.
- 4:40You have to listen to at least one episode, and then you can scroll down and give it stars.
- 4:44And I only have 12 ratings in Spotify. So if you are listening on Spotify right
- 4:50now, would you do me a favor and give me some stars?
- 4:53Also, somebody gave me a low amount of stars. So out of those 12, my average is only four.
- 4:58If you are listening on Spotify, please scroll down and give me five stars.
- 5:02I would so much appreciate it.
- 5:04On Audible, where a lot of people listen, you can't do stars.
- 5:09You only can write a quick review.
- 5:11So every platform has their own preference or what they allow for ratings and reviews.
- 5:16But I will tell you this, your rating and review really matters.
- 5:21It really helps support your podcasts that you listen to.
- 5:24It really helps push those podcasts out to other people because it's telling
- 5:29the platform that this podcast is worth listening to.
- 5:32Your rating and review is one of the best ways that you can support a podcast.
- 5:36All right, hop over to Instagram, send me a DM or come over to school and share
- 5:41some of your listening habits, some of your favorite podcasts.
- 5:44I would love to get to know you a little better. And one last fun statistic, at least it's fun for me.
- 5:50I can only track downloads. So if you stream, this number is not going to include that podcast stream.
- 5:56But if you download the podcast and then listen, this is where that number is coming from.
- 6:03116,900 downloads of the Health with Hashimoto's podcast. That is a lot.
- 6:10I am so honored to be able to show up here and speak simple and sustainable
- 6:16truths to you so that you can change your health, so that you can feel better,
- 6:19so that you can feel like yourself again, so that you can have agency.
- 6:24You can actually feel like a capable CEO of your own health.
- 6:29I'll see you on Thursday for a regular episode.
