- 0:00Hello and welcome to Christian Business Growth Podcast.
- 0:04I'm Lyle and I'm here with Stephanie Baggett.
- 0:06She's gonna tell us about her journey.
- 0:08So, Stephanie, how did God get you into business?
- 0:11Well, Lyle, thanks for having me on.
- 0:13And yeah, I my my journey into business and um started with my own health issues that I had.
- 0:22Um and it actually started about 20 years ago.
- 0:26Um I was having a lot of health issues.
- 0:29I was very overweight.
- 0:31I lived in Seattle at the time and was not able to take advantage of living there because I was so out of shape and um just unhealthy.
- 0:38And I had this
- 0:41little nudge that I wanted to learn how to take better care of myself and study nutrition.
- 0:47And um I had a little setback with that.
- 0:52uh someone that I worked with when I had mentioned to her that I was gonna go back to I wanted to go back to school to study nutrition, um she said, you know, don't not trying to
- 1:04be mean, but who would want to work with you because you are so overweight.
- 1:09And so that took this seed that I felt like God had given me and it buried it really deep.
- 1:16And I ignored it for a long time.
- 1:19And um and then so fast forward I moved to Dallas in 2008.
- 1:25And um, ooh gosh, probably around 2014 I started having I was still having the same health issues.
- 1:32I had lost, I was able to lose a little bit of weight, so I was feeling a little bit better.
- 1:36But um some new things kicked in because I was hitting
- 1:39What I what I now know was perimenopause, but I did not know that at the time.
- 1:44I didn't really know that much about it.
- 1:46And um went to the doctor and was explaining to him that I couldn't sleep.
- 1:52I was um having a really bad brain fog and really bad joint pain.
- 1:56And uh his response was, You're just getting old.
- 2:03here's some antidepressants.
- 2:05Go take some antidepressants and you'll be fine.
- 2:07Just it'll it'll help you get through it.
- 2:09And I I at the my my career before studying becoming a nutritionist was um problem solving and getting to the root cause of why things were the way they were.
- 2:21And so when I was pushing back on him for root cause, he was just like, it just happens, it's just what women go through.
- 2:27And so um I got a little bit angry and a little bit, you know.
- 2:33I I just really wanted to figure this out.
- 2:35So had some other things going on.
- 2:38He sent me to a a a GI doctor for some GI stuff and basically was the same situation.
- 2:43It was just take this medicine and leave me alone.
- 2:47That was kind of the that was the sense that I got.
- 2:50So I started on a journey of just trying to learn as much as I could, and I found people who had been able to reverse.
- 3:00some of the symptoms they were having just by changing their diet.
- 3:03So I did that and I immediately felt better.
- 3:06Within within a two week period, I noticed a big change.
- 3:09And so I started praying about like I was so interested in it.
- 3:16So I started praying about how God might be able to point me how He wants me to take this fat.
- 3:24Like I'm so interested in it now.
- 3:26So like what do I do with this?
- 3:27And I'm still working full time at my other job and
- 3:30so I went to a couple of different conferences and met a met met some people from the school that I ended up going to.
- 3:38And, you know, it's it was an investment.
- 3:42and so uh we were about a week out from registration closing.
- 3:49And I I just wasn't because it was quite an investment.
- 3:52And I was Lord like, Lord, this is a lot of money for me to go back to school to study this.
- 3:57And I was like, I'm so
- 3:59Obtuse sometimes.
- 4:00I need the ray of light to shine on me.
- 4:03I need to hear the void, like the angelic voices telling me this is what you're supposed to do.
- 4:08So I was on my way to church praying that I was like, God, please, like I need, I just need to know.
- 4:14And so I sat down next to a lady I have sat, I had sat down next to for years, asked her how she's doing, and she said, my doctor's trying to get me to take this medication.
- 4:28Um and it was very similar to what I had experienced.
- 4:31And I said, Has he talked to you about your diet at all?
- 4:33And she said, Not a peep.
- 4:35He's just he just gave me a prescription.
- 4:38And I was like, I'm gonna send you some stuff.
- 4:39I'm like, I've I've this this happened with me, but I'm gonna send you some stuff.
- 4:43But I took that as my ray of light from heaven.
- 4:47Of yeah, like just randomly um that happened.
- 4:50And so I signed up for school and uh spent a year.
- 4:57going through a very intense nutritional therapy practitioner um program.
- 5:02and I finished that in 2019, um started my business in 2020, but I was doing it part-time um up until just earlier this year um when I left, I was able to leave my full-time job
- 5:14and start doing this full-time.
- 5:16So
- 5:17That's exciting.
- 5:17It's good to know.
- 5:19So some a health scare in your life and then a doctor just trying to throw pills at something and you said, There's gotta be a better way.
- 5:27And God guided you through this whole process.
- 5:29That's kinda cool.
- 5:30What's God doing if you're in your business right now?
- 5:32gosh.
- 5:34right now he is so a couple of things.
- 5:38I'm learning a lot.
- 5:39So and I'm leaning on him a lot.
- 5:42And I think the thing that I'm learning the most from him right now is to trust him.
- 5:46And it's kind of funny that um that story about asking for the ray of light to come down, you know, for me to go to school.
- 5:54I've I've I've
- 5:58my my mindset has shifted a little bit and I'm like, okay, I feel like God has put me here now and I have to take action.
- 6:05Like He's given me this desire to do this work.
- 6:10And I have to take action.
- 6:11And I can't always wait for the light.
- 6:13And so I think probably one of the biggest things he's doing right now is helping me trust him more.
- 6:19Just helping me um s step out of what is very comfortable for me.
- 6:27which is having one-on-one conversations with people.
- 6:30Um, and now having to go out and try to market my business, um, doing some things that really are out out of my comfort zone.
- 6:40Um, but that I think trust is the one of the biggest things right now that he's been working on me personally.
- 6:47And then the other thing that he's doing in my business is I've when I first started this in 2020, I was
- 6:56thinking it was just gonna be me and I'm gonna work with some one-on-one clients and it's gonna be you know just it'll be nice this you know great little business.
- 7:03And um I recently um again just had these like in prayer time just had these thoughts of like how did how does this how do we how does this become bigger?
- 7:15I feel like God has given me a much bigger vision for how I want my company to grow and I want to be able to take what I do
- 7:25and what people that that do this work, um, I want to be able to make that available to people who might not be able to afford it because um in a lot of states what I do is not
- 7:37covered by insurance.
- 7:39so it's an out of pocket investment that people have to make in their health.
- 7:42And not everybody can do that.
- 7:44And um so I that's the other thing that I've been I'm I'm working on right now is is how how do we make how do I make this
- 7:54How does God help me make this available to other people?
- 7:58uh across, you know, different demographics, you know, different income levels, things like that.
- 8:07And gosh, I just had a thought and it's gone.
- 8:13Anyway, okay.
- 8:14If it comes back, I'll let you know.
- 8:16Yeah, absolutely.
- 8:17Yeah.
- 8:18So you're trying to develop a system that you can pass along to somebody else to help them impact more people because you're only one person, you can't do it all.
- 8:26And you can't travel multiple places in across the country.
- 8:30But if you had people that were in different pockets across the country, that could impact more people.
- 8:34So you're kind of thinking franchise like almost.
- 8:36Yeah, something like that or even having like other remote practitioners that, you know, work work with me.
- 8:44but I just yeah, I just it's it's it's so important for people to be able to have the knowledge and have someone partnering with them to help as they're trying to make um, you
- 8:59know, sometimes it's really big lifestyle changes that people are trying to make.
- 9:03And um
- 9:05having that support.
- 9:07a lot of times if you go to the doctor and the doctor says, you know, your your labs are trending the wrong way, you need to go on a Mediterranean diet or you need to change your
- 9:16diet.
- 9:18sometimes like you can look that up online and see what it is, but it's the implementation and accountability factor I think that um a lot of people struggle with.
- 9:29Right.
- 9:29And most doctors are so busy they're not going to pay attention to that unless they're specifically geared towards food health.
- 9:34I would assume.
- 9:35Yeah.
- 9:35Okay.
- 9:37Good.
- 9:37So let's move into our business growth concept.
- 9:40What are you doing currently to grow your business and how can that help someone else in their business?
- 9:46Yeah, so what I'm doing today to grow my business is um really just trying to have conversations with people, like in-person conversations with people.
- 9:55So um I've um I'm not a huge fan of social media.
- 10:01Um I I think that's there there are a lot of the category that I kind of fall into with nutritionists and and health coaches and people like that.
- 10:12You have a lot of
- 10:13influencers who are giving advice.
- 10:15You have a lot of just a lot of people who are
- 10:22doing a lot on social media and that's great.
- 10:27but that does not feel authentic to me.
- 10:30And you can't you can't have a deep, meaningful conversation with someone when you're doing it on like DMs or in the comments section, right?
- 10:41And so and it's kind of interesting.
- 10:46and I feel and I do feel like this is something that God is driving because I I
- 10:54I just it it's just not picked up.
- 10:56I've I've I've tried so I've tried, you know, using social media.
- 11:01but it just doesn't like it doesn't land.
- 11:03And it's but when I have c one-on-one conversations with people, I the responses are so much different and it's so much better.
- 11:10And and I think it's important to be able to look people in the eye, you know, when you're when you're talking with them.
- 11:17so
- 11:19Having said all of that, what I've been doing is just trying to have conversations with people.
- 11:23Um, I've been going to some local networking events and networking was really a challenge.
- 11:30So I I would say like a growth tip.
- 11:32If you're if you're avoiding networking, it doesn't have to be scary.
- 11:37Um, you you don't I I kept thinking networking was like I have to go in and get all these business cards and I have to I have to talk to every person in the room and you don't.
- 11:46It's it my
- 11:48What has made it easy for me and made it makes it feel much more authentic is I'm gonna go in and try to at least have a conversation with one person.
- 11:58And by the end of that, um I I have maybe I have gotten their business card and I try to think of is there something I can do to help that person?
- 12:08And so for example, um, you know, one of the first times at um the the networking group where I met you.
- 12:17I had a conversation with a young lady and um
- 12:24She was talking about how uh meal prep and meal planning is difficult for her.
- 12:29And so I happen to have a free resource that I give to my clients on meal prepping.
- 12:34So I just followed up with her afterwards and said, you know, hey, I just really enjoyed getting to meet you and chat with you.
- 12:39Um here's something that I've shared with my clients before.
- 12:43I'd love for you to have it.
- 12:44Let me know if you if there's anything in there that's helpful.
- 12:48and she emailed me back a couple days later.
- 12:49She's like, my gosh, thank you so much.
- 12:51This was great.
- 12:52Um so I I like to do things like that and and just building building connections with people.
- 12:59I think in the our current the way we the way we live today with AI and everything at our fingertips.
- 13:11We have information that's readily available.
- 13:14Um we
- 13:18We can find anything.
- 13:19We can find information on anything.
- 13:22And if information was the problem, now we've solved that, right?
- 13:26Everybody has that.
- 13:27And and AI is much smarter and faster at recall than I am.
- 13:32So, you know, I I I might have the information.
- 13:35it might just take me a minute to to dig it out of here.
- 13:38But I think the piece that people are missing um because of the technology advances we've had is human connection.
- 13:47And so I'd like to
- 13:53I wanna I want to try to find ways to continue to connect with people.
- 13:57Um, you know, have um I sometimes we'll do some like free s free workshops and things like that, just giving people a chance to connect with each other.
- 14:14but I think it's I think that's really important right now because we are very disconnected as a society.
- 14:19And I don't I don't think God's intention for us being together was to be so disconnected.
- 14:26and so I think the more we can have face-to-face conversations with people, I think the I think it gives everybody a better chance to get to know each other, build trust with
- 14:37people.
- 14:38you know, the more people see you, the more trust you're building.
- 14:42Um, so yeah, so that's that's probably my biggest my biggest growth tip would be just, you know, go out and talk to people and and not be don't be afraid of networking, even if
- 14:53you're an introvert like I am.
- 14:57That's funny.
- 14:58We you know, you talk about the gurus and the online gurus and everything.
- 15:01It's always funny.
- 15:01You got the perfectly thin twenty year old person saying, I'm dealing with my facial structure and putting cream on, I'm like going, You're twenty years old, of course you're
- 15:10not gonna have wrinkles And then you get somebody else on the other side of it that they're they're not healthy and they're sharing their tips to be healthy and you're just
- 15:19like that doesn't like you said, you had that that issue with yourself.
- 15:22And so it's hard to see those things and when you use AI or you go on the you start seeing those
- 15:27Matter fact, we're talking about it.
- 15:28So somebody listens in this, Facebook might start sending them images and other people that are talking about health stuff.
- 15:34But you hear like both sides of the story, you know, eggs are good for you, ads are bad for you, sourdough's good for you, sourdough's bad for you.
- 15:42You know, when you sit here all this back and forth, it's hard to find that middle ground.
- 15:45So how do you differentiate between all the yammering is what I call it out there?
- 15:51Yeah, no, that's that is a great question because you're right.
- 15:53There it it really depends on what your own belief system is sometimes as to what you consider like good or bad.
- 16:00And I try not to look at food as good or bad.
- 16:03I try to look at food as like what is gonna nourish my body and what is maybe gonna taste good but not be quite as nourishing.
- 16:13So and and those foods aren't you don't have to totally give those foods up.
- 16:17The
- 16:19When it comes to some of the debate that happens, I do try to actually read through scientific studies.
- 16:26Like if there's been research done, I want to read through it and try to understand it.
- 16:32So I can at least have an educated opinion.
- 16:36Um, and not just like, for example, um, I don't I personally don't like tomatoes.
- 16:44I I love tomato sauce, but I don't like the actual tomato.
- 16:49Sliced up on things.
- 16:51So there are some people have sensitivities to tomatoes.
- 16:58They're in a food group called Nightshades.
- 17:00Some people have a sensitivity to that, right?
- 17:02So I could very because I don't like tomatoes, I could very easily build a whole like, here's why, you know, 10 reasons tomatoes are bad for you.
- 17:10And I could, I could legitimately have 10 reasons why.
- 17:14But for most people.
- 17:16Tomatoes are great.
- 17:17They have a ton of nutrients and antioxidants.
- 17:20And why not eat them?
- 17:21But because I don't like them, I'm, you know, so that's a that's kind of a silly example, but it's it's how the information gets shifted and biased.
- 17:29So if you're a carnivore, you're gonna tell people eating plants is, you know, not gonna be good for you.
- 17:35If you're a veg vegan, you're gonna tell people eating, you know, animal protein is not good for you.
- 17:41But when it what it comes down to is if you eat whole
- 17:46Unprocessed foods, the way
- 17:52God created them.
- 17:53You know, if we're eating vegetables at that we've, you know, not that maybe we've picked ourselves, but we're eating vegetables and not something that um like the gosh, those
- 18:05little veggie straws.
- 18:07So veggie straws are veggies, but they're potato chips basically that are colored with like, you know, spinach and have some spinach flavoring.
- 18:15So it's not really a vegetable, right?
- 18:18But if you're eating things in their natural state, eating fruit.
- 18:22all of those good things, then you're getting you you're hopefully getting the nutrients you need.
- 18:27one of the issues that so many people have though is we have such a society that is fast food-driven, processed, packaged foods that it does do some cause some uh issues with our
- 18:41gut health.
- 18:42And so if you're you're one of the main foundations of just having a healthy body, and that's this is what I talk a lot with my clients about.
- 18:50There are foundations of health, and one of them is digestive health.
- 18:54And if that's not working well, then you can eat the healthiest food ever.
- 19:00But if your bot your body might not be able to absorb all of those nutrients or it it might be moving too quickly through your digestive system.
- 19:08So you're you're just not getting the benefit from it.
- 19:10So so a lot of a lot of times with my clients, we do work on let's get your gut health.
- 19:18Optimized, you know, make sure all that's working well.
- 19:21And then we build from there.
- 19:23Um, and a lot of people are like, gosh, that's really not very fun.
- 19:27Like, I want my problem gone and which I I can totally relate to, but it's a long game.
- 19:33It is, it is a long game.
- 19:35And and getting your gut health back in balance is not like a year long process.
- 19:40You can notice changes within two to four, six weeks.
- 19:46sometimes as little as two weeks people notice changes.
- 19:50and all of that all of that feeds into all of the other aspects of your of your overall wellness.
- 19:56So
- 19:58Makes sense.
- 19:58And that goes back to your your concept of conversation.
- 20:01No one's gonna tell you how they're feeling in their stomach the first time they have conversation with you.
- 20:07You have to develop that relationship, the one on one consistency.
- 20:10And then they're they're gonna be like, okay, so you know a little bit about food, let's have a conversation.
- 20:14And they're probably not gonna meet you at McDonald's because that's not oh
- 20:19tell people when I work with them and I have them food do their food journal up front, we do that early on.
- 20:24and I tell them like don't try to make this look good.
- 20:27Like don't put down what you think I want to see, put down what you're actually eating because I we can't figure out this together if we don't have the the right information.
- 20:50yeah, we can't we can't we can't figure out solve your puzzle.
- 20:54And I and I do like to look at people's health as just a puzzle.
- 20:58We have a lot of different pieces of the puzzle, what we eat, um, what our lifestyle is like.
- 21:04So stress, sleep.
- 21:06Are you sleeping well?
- 21:07Are you hydrated?
- 21:10I know we are in a heat wave like we haven't seen in a few years.
- 21:15Um
- 21:17And if you're not hydrated and getting some good trace minerals to help keep your body hydrated, um, that can cause some issues that people would never equate with being
- 21:30dehydrated, like brain kind of brain fog, things like that.
- 21:34Um, you know, want to make sure that people are are just are eating, eating, eating in the best way that they can.
- 21:43And um
- 21:46If we do all of that and things still are not, you're still not feeling well, then there are other things we can do to go deeper.
- 21:56Um, so with with my clients, I I will sometimes do different types of lab testing, blood work, GI testing, food sensitivity testing, just to see if there are other things that are
- 22:06um getting in the way of your body being able to kind of bounce back from from some of the things that have that maybe
- 22:15just through food and and me lack of activity, lack of hydration, things like that, lack of sleep might be causing.
- 22:23the the wonderful thing is we are all like, you know, God made us all
- 22:34When it it it amazes me how our bodies are made.
- 22:38Our bodies are built to keep everything in balance, our the way our central nervous system works, it pays attention to what's happening inside your body.
- 22:50And if your blood sugar gets a little too high, it sends signals so you can release some insulin to bring it back down.
- 22:58I it just it it's this beautiful orchestration that happens and
- 23:04I think we are, you know, we get kind of hung up on like what's the next thing I need to do?
- 23:10What's the big like, you know, I need to do this to lose weight or I need to do this to feel better.
- 23:14And it's really if we can keep that orchestration as balanced as we can, that's what's really gonna help us achieve, you know, long, healthy life.
- 23:25it's not gonna be like the quick fix.
- 23:27It's gonna be doing these things over time and as as
- 23:34as intricate and interesting as all of those pieces are, everybody's also very different.
- 23:38So what works for you, Lyle, might not work for me.
- 23:42Um and what works for me might not work for someone else.
- 23:45And so having someone that can partner alongside you to help you troubleshoot so you don't get as frustrated.
- 23:52Um I think and that goes back to ta having conversations with people.
- 23:55And I think that's one of the big things that the
- 24:00nutritional therapy practitioners and people that do this the work that I do, I think that's one of the big things that we bring to the table is just being able to help help
- 24:10troubleshoot and walk people through some of those different challenges.
- 24:15Yeah.
- 24:17So um I
- 24:23I'd love to can I start that over?
- 24:25Okay.
- 24:28I didn't think about this question.
- 24:31So if someone wants to get in touch with me, they can um visit my website and I offer a free uh 20 minute consultation.

- 25:10and one thing that we didn't talk about, but I'm also available to help small businesses if they want to try to implement some like group programs with their companies as well.
- 25:22So I work with individuals and
- 25:26and businesses.
- 25:27Perfect.
