- 0:53Speaker 3: until Dave Allen comes back on Monday. Assuming he comes back.
- 0:57Speaker 4: You know Dave.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Dave on his destination for his vacation has found a
- 1:02Speaker 3: run of really really good food, and if you know Dave,
- 1:06Speaker 3: that means he's having a little hard time convincing himself
- 1:08Speaker 3: to come back. He submitted a form on how to
- 1:13Speaker 3: do remote broadcasts from his location now, so he wouldn't
- 1:17Speaker 3: have to leave, So hopefully Dave ends up being back
- 1:18Speaker 3: here on Monday.
- 1:19Speaker 4: I'm just kidding.
- 1:19Speaker 3: As far as I know, Dave, we'll be back here
- 1:21Speaker 3: on Monday for five eighty Love. But I'm here today.
- 1:23Speaker 3: We're going to have pretty much a normal Friday show
- 1:26Speaker 3: coming up here.
- 1:27Speaker 4: In just a moment.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Angie gillen Water is going to join us from the
- 1:30Speaker 3: Canal Charleston Humane Association, and we're going to talk about
- 1:33Speaker 3: Copper this morning. Copper not not the metal, but we're
- 1:38Speaker 3: actually going to be talking about a little doggie named Copper,
- 1:41Speaker 3: very sweet, good boy. You can go to our Facebook
- 1:43Speaker 3: page at five ADWHSWHS Network and take a look at
- 1:47Speaker 3: that picture right now, and that will be the dog
- 1:48Speaker 3: will be discussing coming up here in just a couple
- 1:51Speaker 3: of minutes. We're also going to be joined more towards
- 1:53Speaker 3: the bottom of the hour about twenty past or a
- 1:55Speaker 3: little after by West Virginia State University President Erica Cage,
- 1:58Speaker 3: and we're going to talk about basically it's beginning of
- 2:02Speaker 3: the school the school year, incoming fresh and are coming
- 2:05Speaker 3: in and West Virginia State University of course is bringing
- 2:11Speaker 3: in classes as well. All kinds of things that are
- 2:13Speaker 3: going over there. The President and the First Lady helped
- 2:15Speaker 3: students move in just this past week. State Stride is
- 2:18Speaker 3: coming up next week, so we're going to talk about
- 2:19Speaker 3: those things with West Virginia State University. And I'm going
- 2:22Speaker 3: to remind you a little bit that has to do
- 2:23Speaker 3: with West Virginia State sports. If you didn't know, West
- 2:26Speaker 3: Virginia State football and basketball are going to be on
- 2:28Speaker 3: our sister station ninety eight one O seven to three
- 2:31Speaker 3: the Beat. You'll be able to find West Virginia State
- 2:33Speaker 3: sports on there throughout the year. They have a play
- 2:37Speaker 3: by play announcer that works here. You might have heard
- 2:38Speaker 3: anyone in the morning news. The last couple of weeks,
- 2:41Speaker 3: Daniel Woods will be doing the play by play. Tom Bragg,
- 2:44Speaker 3: familiar here on the stations, will be doing the color
- 2:46Speaker 3: commentary for West Virginia State football that will be coming
- 2:49Speaker 3: up at the end of this month. So I'm going
- 2:51Speaker 3: to talk a little bit about that with President Cage
- 2:54Speaker 3: when he comes in, and much of other things that
- 2:57Speaker 3: are going on at West Virginia State University as.
- 3:00Speaker 4: To start for this school year.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Also, before we wrap up here today, I had a
- 3:05Speaker 3: guest that was going to come in here to do
- 3:06Speaker 3: some live music for us. That was my original plan
- 3:09Speaker 3: and unfortunately last night that fell through for me, and
- 3:12Speaker 3: scrambling around a little bit this morning, I was not
- 3:14Speaker 3: able to get someone else to come in.
- 3:15Speaker 4: To do music.
- 3:15Speaker 3: So what I want to do is yesterday on Hotline
- 3:19Speaker 3: and if you don't listen to the afternoon show, I
- 3:20Speaker 3: thought this would be a great opportunity to give you
- 3:22Speaker 3: an idea of what we do sometimes on that afternoon
- 3:24Speaker 3: show with Dave Weekly and me. Yesterday Dave had the
- 3:27Speaker 3: opportunity to talk to David Mayfield. I hate to introduce
- 3:30Speaker 3: another David into this row of David's that we have
- 3:33Speaker 3: on the program, but Dave Allen is off, so Dave
- 3:36Speaker 3: David Mayfield can step in. David Mayfield, a singer and
- 3:39Speaker 3: songwriter on his own, has been with tons of bands.
- 3:42Speaker 3: He has played with the Avid Brothers, Mumford and Sons.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Now he has the David Mayfield Jukebox Experience. He's the
- 3:47Speaker 3: host of Mountain Stage. Kathy Mateya and Larry Gross are
- 3:51Speaker 3: not hosting this weekend at the Culture's Inn here in Charleston. Instead,
- 3:54Speaker 3: It's going to be It's going to be David Mayfield
- 3:57Speaker 3: and we had the opportunity to interview him yesterday on
- 4:01Speaker 3: hotline Dave Weekly did and as well as preview this
- 4:03Speaker 3: upcoming show on Saturday and play a couple clips of
- 4:06Speaker 3: the songs. So since I couldn't bring you live music
- 4:08Speaker 3: this morning, that's what I wanted to do. I'm going
- 4:09Speaker 3: to replay that interview. It's only about ten minutes long,
- 4:11Speaker 3: but it gives you a nice snapshot of what's going
- 4:13Speaker 3: to be happening this weekend when it comes to Mountain Stage.
- 4:15Speaker 3: There's still tickets available, so I thought that might be
- 4:17Speaker 3: something interesting for us to get to. So without further ado, though,
- 4:20Speaker 3: we have some we have a pooch that we're hoping
- 4:22Speaker 3: to adopt. So we want to talk to Angie killen
- 4:23Speaker 3: Water now from the Canal Charleston Humane Association.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Angie, good morning. How you doing this morning?
- 4:30Speaker 5: I'm doing really good.
- 4:31Speaker 4: That is fantastic.
- 4:33Speaker 3: It's Friday, so that always takes it up a couple
- 4:35Speaker 3: and then naches as far as feeling good.
- 4:37Speaker 5: Usually absolutely Yeah. Every week we're shooting for Friday.
- 4:44Speaker 3: That's pretty much everybody ex there for those I guess
- 4:45Speaker 3: it works through the weekend. Dave sent me a picture
- 4:50Speaker 3: of the dog this morning. It's over on our Facebook
- 4:52Speaker 3: page at five adwchs. This cute little puppy. His name
- 4:54Speaker 3: is Copper. What can you tell us about Copper?
- 4:57Speaker 5: So Copper. If you're a hound blover, Copper is the
- 5:00Speaker 5: dog for you. I did tell Dave last night you
- 5:04Speaker 5: will definitely hear Copper before you see him at our shelter.
- 5:08Speaker 5: He loves to just go to our playards and how
- 5:11Speaker 5: but he's great with other dogs, He's great with kids.
- 5:14Speaker 5: He actually had a little playdate with one of our
- 5:16Speaker 5: fosters and her very young son yesterday and did fabulous
- 5:19Speaker 5: with him. But he is still a puppy himself. He's
- 5:23Speaker 5: less than a year old and he's probably about sixty
- 5:26Speaker 5: ish pounds, so he's a very big boy. But he's
- 5:30Speaker 5: definitely worth adopting. He's also sponsored by Ellen's ice Creams
- 5:36Speaker 5: and so zero dollars to take.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Home and that sounds fantastic. What can you tell me
- 5:42Speaker 3: about his personality? Pretty playful? And I know you said
- 5:45Speaker 3: he's a he's a hound, so obviously you want to
- 5:48Speaker 3: hear him pretty playful around other animals, around kids.
- 5:51Speaker 4: How does how does he shape up with that?
- 5:53Speaker 5: So he's got what we call a social butterfly personality
- 5:56Speaker 5: in the shelter. He does not have any weird quirks,
- 5:59Speaker 5: like he's afraid of men or you know, people with
- 6:02Speaker 5: hats on, anything like that. He is pretty social with
- 6:05Speaker 5: everyone he meets. And in our playyards he doesn't really
- 6:09Speaker 5: necessarily play with the other dogs, but he does go
- 6:13Speaker 5: out there and he definitely howls a lot.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Well, that's there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. In these
- 6:20Speaker 3: sweet little dogs. They need to be adopted, and you said,
- 6:22Speaker 3: and being sponsored by Ellen's ice Cream, So that means
- 6:25Speaker 3: it's basically a free adoption, Is that right?
- 6:27Speaker 5: Yeah? Pretty much. You may have to pay for city
- 6:31Speaker 5: or county pigs if you live in the city of
- 6:33Speaker 5: Charleston or in Knawk County, but other than that, he
- 6:37Speaker 5: is zero dollars to take home. Will neuter him, vaccinate him,
- 6:40Speaker 5: be worm deeply, and micro chip him for pretty much
- 6:43Speaker 5: free for you man.
- 6:45Speaker 4: That is that is great news.
- 6:47Speaker 3: And so if folks have any questions, they can give
- 6:49Speaker 3: you guys a call. That's three zero four three four
- 6:50Speaker 3: two fifteen seventy six. You can email info at adopti
- 6:53Speaker 3: pet Charleston dot com.
- 6:55Speaker 4: If you want to.
- 6:55Speaker 3: You can just come by and take a look too, right,
- 6:57Speaker 3: and maybe you know, if it's not Copper, maybe it's
- 6:59Speaker 3: somebody else, So another poocher.
- 7:02Speaker 4: Kitty or something.
- 7:03Speaker 5: Absolutely, I can only feature one pet on these days,
- 7:06Speaker 5: and we have about four hundred to choose from. I
- 7:09Speaker 5: definitely employ you to come up and visit us as well.
- 7:12Speaker 3: Oh my goodness, that's that's terrible. Have did you guys
- 7:16Speaker 3: hear anything. I've just got a couple of texts that
- 7:18Speaker 3: came in and some people were concerned about a news
- 7:22Speaker 3: story about a kitty that was thrown off the Patrick's
- 7:25Speaker 3: Street bridge.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Did you guys hear anything about that?
- 7:27Speaker 5: Yes, so we are. We were informed that the person
- 7:31Speaker 5: would be bringing the cat to us, so you know,
- 7:33Speaker 5: we got our medical team ready and everything. We haven't
- 7:35Speaker 5: got the kitten yet, but we are preparing if we do.
- 7:39Speaker 5: We've got our medical team and you know, the X
- 7:41Speaker 5: ray machine fired up to make sure everything's ready to
- 7:45Speaker 5: roll if he does show up. But we have not
- 7:48Speaker 5: got that kitten yet. I'm assuming they may be found
- 7:50Speaker 5: another home for it, but we're prepared if we do
- 7:54Speaker 5: get that.
- 7:55Speaker 4: Kitten, well, we are.
- 7:56Speaker 3: We do hope that, we do hope that the kiddy's okay,
- 7:59Speaker 3: and maybe found a new home then, but today it's
- 8:01Speaker 3: all about Copper. Copper is a sponsored dopat. That means
- 8:04Speaker 3: that if Copper, who is a cute a cute boy.
- 8:07Speaker 3: You can find his picture over at five ADWCCHS on Facebook,
- 8:11Speaker 3: WCCHS Network.
- 8:12Speaker 4: Take a look at Copper.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Contact the Human Association, go down there, whatever you need
- 8:16Speaker 3: to do, but let's try to get some of these
- 8:18Speaker 3: pets matched up with owners who need them. Angie, thank
- 8:21Speaker 3: you so much for your time this morning. As always,
- 8:22Speaker 3: we're trying to do you try to do good missions
- 8:24Speaker 3: there and we're trying to help out as much as possible.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Hopefully were going to get Copper a home.
- 8:28Speaker 5: So we appreciate that and hopefully next week I will
- 8:31Speaker 5: be able to say Copper is adopted.
- 8:33Speaker 3: That would be a great news indeed, Anngie, thank you
- 8:35Speaker 3: so much for your time this morning, and have a
- 8:36Speaker 3: great weekend. We'll talk to you next week, no problem,
- 8:38Speaker 3: you too, Thank you very much. That is Auntie Gillenwater.
- 8:41Speaker 3: She was in contact with us from the Canal Charleston
- 8:43Speaker 3: Humane Association. Online adopts Charleston dot com. Adopt Charleston dot
- 8:47Speaker 3: com if you want to go in line and take
- 8:48Speaker 3: a look. You can also email them info at adopt
- 8:50Speaker 3: Charleston dot com in the phone number three zero four
- 8:52Speaker 3: three four two fifteen seventy six. Three zero four three
- 8:55Speaker 3: four two fifteen seventy six. We're gonna give away a
- 8:59Speaker 3: pair of Reds tickets a little bit later on in
- 9:00Speaker 3: the show today. Basically, all that I need you to
- 9:02Speaker 3: do is give me a call and share a Red's memory,
- 9:05Speaker 3: a favorite Reds memory or Reds memory you want to
- 9:07Speaker 3: tell me about. Maybe it's one from the radio. I
- 9:09Speaker 3: would love that if you were listening to five Adwhs
- 9:12Speaker 3: like I was growing up as a kid back in
- 9:13Speaker 3: the early eighties and all the way through my childhood,
- 9:18Speaker 3: big fan of the Reds, and a lot of memories
- 9:20Speaker 3: on the radio there. If you have one that you
- 9:21Speaker 3: want to share. I just want to have a pair
- 9:22Speaker 3: of tickets I want to give away for the Reds
- 9:24Speaker 3: hosting the Mets on Friday night, September fifth. This could
- 9:29Speaker 3: be shaping up to be a showdown for a wild
- 9:32Speaker 3: card position of things relatively remain homeostatus from where they
- 9:36Speaker 3: are right now, so this might be a good opportunity
- 9:38Speaker 3: for you to go see the Reds in a meaningful
- 9:40Speaker 3: game in September.
- 9:42Speaker 4: Huh. Not such a bad deal. Huh.
- 9:44Speaker 3: So later on in the program, all I need you
- 9:46Speaker 3: to do is the first person to give me a
- 9:47Speaker 3: call and share a red story, you'll win a couple
- 9:50Speaker 3: tickets to go see the Cincinnati Reds. So that's coming up.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Hopefully you'll enjoy that and coming up next, looking forward
- 9:57Speaker 3: to this conversation because we can get a little bit
- 9:58Speaker 3: of a deep dive with Westerginie State University President Erica Cage.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Of course, the new school year is starting, all kinds
- 10:04Speaker 3: of things going over going on over at West Virginia

- 12:58Speaker 3: of a busy week. I love being on the I
- 13:00Speaker 3: love talking to folks here on the radio, but a
- 13:03Speaker 3: lot of this week I've done three shows, the Expert Show,
- 13:05Speaker 3: this show, and the afternoon show with Dave Weekly, So
- 13:07Speaker 3: I'm ready to give the pipes a little bit of
- 13:10Speaker 3: a rest coming up this weekend. But I've been looking
- 13:13Speaker 3: forward to this conversation since Ron Hughes helped me set
- 13:15Speaker 3: it up. West Virginia State University President Eric Cage is
- 13:17Speaker 3: joining me this morning, and man, new school year is
- 13:20Speaker 3: about to start at overt wes Virginia State University President Cage,
- 13:23Speaker 3: how you doing this morning?
- 13:23Speaker 4: Thanks for coming in.
- 13:24Speaker 10: I'm doing great, Dale, Thanks so much for having me.
- 13:26Speaker 10: It is a wonderful day, and we've got a lot
- 13:28Speaker 10: going on in the West Virginia State University right now.
- 13:30Speaker 3: I love how active you are over there and what
- 13:32Speaker 3: outreach that you do just want to kind of start
- 13:35Speaker 3: from the basics here. This week has been full of
- 13:37Speaker 3: students moving back. You even helped to move in some
- 13:40Speaker 3: of it the students. I love that story with you
- 13:42Speaker 3: and the first lady over at West Virginia State University.
- 13:45Speaker 3: What's the vibe like right now over at West Virginia State.
- 13:47Speaker 10: Well, the vibe is one of great energy.
- 13:51Speaker 4: Dale.
- 13:51Speaker 10: We are really excited to welcome all of our new
- 13:55Speaker 10: students and our faculty and staff back to campus.
- 13:58Speaker 4: You are right.
- 13:59Speaker 10: My wife and I helped parents and students earlier this
- 14:04Speaker 10: week as our new students moved into the residence halls,
- 14:07Speaker 10: and it's always an exciting part of the academic year
- 14:11Speaker 10: to welcome new members to the State family and just
- 14:15Speaker 10: really appreciate everything that our team does on campus to
- 14:19Speaker 10: facilitate what was a very very orderly move in. And
- 14:22Speaker 10: we're looking forward to kicking off the start of the
- 14:24Speaker 10: academic year on Monday, classes begin. We'll be in full swing,
- 14:29Speaker 10: we'll be welcoming again a robust class to the university,
- 14:35Speaker 10: and I'm just excited about all of the things that
- 14:37Speaker 10: we've got on tap this academic year.
- 14:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I want to talk about those coming up in
- 14:41Speaker 3: just a little bit. Do you have for the faculty
- 14:44Speaker 3: and students that are starting classes on Monday. Do you
- 14:46Speaker 3: have a kind of a pep talk message that you
- 14:47Speaker 3: want to relate to them.
- 14:48Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, you know, Dale, one of the things
- 14:50Speaker 10: I said when I welcomed the faculty back on this
- 14:54Speaker 10: past Monday, I said, this is going to be a
- 14:57Speaker 10: year of action and opportunity at West Virginia State University,
- 15:01Speaker 10: an opportunity for us to double down on our mission
- 15:05Speaker 10: of transforming lives excellence in education.
- 15:08Speaker 4: So I think my message is it's.
- 15:10Speaker 10: Time to lean in and lean in in a way
- 15:13Speaker 10: that it's going to be impactful, a way that it's
- 15:16Speaker 10: going to help us to again move West Virginia State
- 15:20Speaker 10: University to the next level.
- 15:21Speaker 3: I don't know, you probably don't know this, but I've
- 15:23Speaker 3: hired out of the Broadcast school over there. I've hired
- 15:28Speaker 3: well young Ryan in here as a graduate. I have
- 15:31Speaker 3: a couple more people that are on staff already now.
- 15:34Speaker 3: I've hired prolifically out of West Virginia State in the
- 15:36Speaker 3: past and always works out well.
- 15:38Speaker 4: I'm glad to hear that.
- 15:39Speaker 10: Of course, as you know, Dale, I mean West Virginia
- 15:41Speaker 10: State University is proud to have ten thousand alumni just
- 15:45Speaker 10: in the canav Valley alone. So no matter where you go,
- 15:49Speaker 10: what profession you're in, what community you're in, you're going
- 15:52Speaker 10: to find someone who is a West Virginia State University alumni.
- 15:55Speaker 10: And it speaks to our impact and our presence in
- 15:57Speaker 10: this valley.
- 15:58Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely true, There's no question about that. Since I've
- 16:00Speaker 3: been I've been back in West Virginia since twenty ten,
- 16:03Speaker 3: and just the expansion of the footprint of the public outreach,
- 16:09Speaker 3: the messaging that the top of mind awareness type of thing.
- 16:12Speaker 3: I mean, it's I don't even know if it's a
- 16:14Speaker 3: if you can even determine what the factor of impact
- 16:18Speaker 3: has been, but it's been significant just in the fifteen
- 16:20Speaker 3: years that I've been back.
- 16:20Speaker 4: There's no question about it.
- 16:21Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, certainly the impact, there's no secret there.
- 16:24Speaker 10: It's our people. We are a small institution, but we
- 16:28Speaker 10: have an incredible impact and that is because of the
- 16:31Speaker 10: dedicated faculty, staff, administrators, and community of supporters who stand
- 16:36Speaker 10: behind our university. As a proud Land Grant university, we
- 16:40Speaker 10: have a mission that extends across the entire state of
- 16:42Speaker 10: West Virginia, and we are proud of the contributions that
- 16:45Speaker 10: we make and we appreciate everyone who stands behind our institution.
- 16:49Speaker 3: Next Thursday is State Stride. It's a major tradition at
- 16:51Speaker 3: Westernion State University. I've never I didn't go to Western
- 16:55Speaker 3: US State University, so I hear the alums talk about it.
- 16:58Speaker 3: I know it's a big deal. What is State Stride?
- 17:00Speaker 3: What can incoming freshmen expect?
- 17:02Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean again, as I've echoed here, we are
- 17:05Speaker 10: a family. We're a family at West Virginia State University,
- 17:08Speaker 10: and when you come to our institution, you are embraced.
- 17:12Speaker 10: And what State Stride does is it gives our new
- 17:15Speaker 10: students and opportunity to be formally welcome to the state family.
- 17:20Speaker 10: We are going to begin the State Stride, of course,
- 17:24Speaker 10: with a pep talk, so to speak for me as
- 17:27Speaker 10: a president, I'll talk about what it means to be
- 17:29Speaker 10: part of state, what it means to be starting your education.
- 17:33Speaker 10: We're going to instill a sense of pride in our students.
- 17:35Speaker 10: And after that we're going to have a bit of
- 17:37Speaker 10: a parade. All of our new students are going to
- 17:40Speaker 10: march down Campus Walk or College Walk, and they are
- 17:44Speaker 10: going to march down and we're going to have faculty
- 17:47Speaker 10: and staff and alumni line they're cheering them on as
- 17:51Speaker 10: they begin their academic journeys at West Virginia State University.
- 17:55Speaker 10: So it's really a celebration and I certainly invite you
- 17:59Speaker 10: and others to come and join.
- 18:01Speaker 3: This is such a great tradition because this is one
- 18:02Speaker 3: of those things with a lot of these with a
- 18:04Speaker 3: lot of these students that are coming in, I mean,
- 18:07Speaker 3: college is a big step in in into their next
- 18:09Speaker 3: the next progression of their life, whatever it might be,
- 18:12Speaker 3: and something like the Stride event, it helps marry them
- 18:16Speaker 3: into their family, their their new family at school. It
- 18:18Speaker 3: helps get them involved with the teachers, with the faculty,
- 18:21Speaker 3: They get to see some of their some of their classmates,
- 18:24Speaker 3: and it just gets you, I guess, kind of bought
- 18:26Speaker 3: in to the culture and to the to the spirit
- 18:28Speaker 3: of the school.
- 18:29Speaker 10: That's right, and we do have a really really rich history,
- 18:32Speaker 10: strong legacy at West Virginia State University. And the thing
- 18:36Speaker 10: that I impress upon our students, in addition to telling
- 18:39Speaker 10: them the university's commitment to their success, the university's commitment
- 18:43Speaker 10: to standing behind them, it's again to instill that sense
- 18:46Speaker 10: of pride, to let them know that they are becoming
- 18:49Speaker 10: part of something special, an institution that has had an
- 18:52Speaker 10: incredible impact not just on the Kanaw Valley, but across
- 18:56Speaker 10: the state of West Virginia. Our alumni have really gone
- 18:59Speaker 10: on to change the world. Alumni like Katherine Johnson, who
- 19:02Speaker 10: we all know who helped America win the space race
- 19:05Speaker 10: and she got her education at West Virginia State. So
- 19:08Speaker 10: we try to impress upon our students to be proud
- 19:11Speaker 10: of the fact that you are a Yellowjacket because you
- 19:13Speaker 10: are joining a rich tradition, a tradition that will help
- 19:17Speaker 10: you change your lives again through excellence and education.
- 19:21Speaker 3: Man, what a great message, What a great message for
- 19:23Speaker 3: students and for the parents of those students, for people
- 19:25Speaker 3: that are looking to enroll. Well, too late to enroll now,
- 19:27Speaker 3: I guess, but I forgot. I was already fact checked
- 19:32Speaker 3: on that one.
- 19:32Speaker 4: That's right.
- 19:33Speaker 10: It is not too late to enroll again. Classes begin
- 19:36Speaker 10: on Monday. So if you were interested in coming in
- 19:38Speaker 10: West Virginia State, we encourage you to come today or
- 19:41Speaker 10: to come next week and we will get you signed
- 19:43Speaker 10: up and get you.
- 19:44Speaker 4: Ready to What is the actual deadline.
- 19:46Speaker 10: Well, I mean again, Monday is the first day of classes.
- 19:49Speaker 10: Ideally we would like students to be signed up on
- 19:53Speaker 10: Monday at least, because you know, we don't want you
- 19:55Speaker 10: to get behind your academic studies. But but come see
- 19:58Speaker 10: us today or next week and we will definitely get
- 20:01Speaker 10: you registered and ready to go.
- 20:02Speaker 3: See that's how it's done, though, we'll find a way
- 20:04Speaker 3: to make it work.
- 20:05Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 20:06Speaker 3: Was just told about a new cybersecurity program that you
- 20:08Speaker 3: receive final approval for as a four year bachelor's Greek program.
- 20:12Speaker 3: This is an important type of program to add because
- 20:14Speaker 3: what we're seeing is modern classes for modern concerns and
- 20:18Speaker 3: things like that.
- 20:19Speaker 4: Well, can you tell me about this?
- 20:20Speaker 10: Yeah, I can tell you that we are super excited
- 20:23Speaker 10: about cybersecurity at West Virginia State University. And as you
- 20:27Speaker 10: just say it, Dell, we have now received final approval
- 20:32Speaker 10: to offer a four year Bachelors of Science degree in
- 20:36Speaker 10: cybersecurity at West Virginia State University. It's been a labor
- 20:39Speaker 10: of love. We have worked on this program for almost
- 20:42Speaker 10: three years now and we have seen it through its
- 20:44Speaker 10: infancy and now we are ready to welcome students into
- 20:49Speaker 10: a cybersecurity program, a program that is very much designed
- 20:53Speaker 10: to prepare students for the high demand career fiel up cybersecurity.
- 20:58Speaker 10: We know cybersecurity is the future, and as president, I
- 21:02Speaker 10: am committed to making sure that our university is offering
- 21:06Speaker 10: programs that are aligned with workforce needs, and cybersecurity definitely
- 21:10Speaker 10: checks that box. At West Virginia State University, we are
- 21:15Speaker 10: the only school in West Virginia to receive a megan
- 21:18Speaker 10: dollars from Google to start a googlew Cybersecurity clinic and
- 21:22Speaker 10: drew that clinic. Our students are actually helping small businesses
- 21:25Speaker 10: here in this valley assess their infrastructure it infrastructure to
- 21:30Speaker 10: make sure it's hardened so that they can protect themselves
- 21:32Speaker 10: from cyber attacks from around the world. So cybersecurity, it's
- 21:37Speaker 10: a big day for cyber at West Virginia State University.
- 21:40Speaker 10: Our programs are going to integrate AI and agriculture, so
- 21:43Speaker 10: it's definitely going to be something unique. I encourage anyone
- 21:46Speaker 10: who is listening to me, who is interested interested in cybersecurity,
- 21:50Speaker 10: come see us at West Virginia State University and become
- 21:52Speaker 10: part of something special.
- 21:53Speaker 3: It's really exciting to have such a modern a degree
- 21:56Speaker 3: that's available, and I'm assuming downstream that's going to open
- 21:59Speaker 3: up internship opportunities, research opportunities and obviously an expansion into
- 22:04Speaker 3: career fields and things like that. I mean, that's massively important,
- 22:07Speaker 3: and we need to try to keep some of those
- 22:08Speaker 3: people here at home. I mean, if we're looking to
- 22:09Speaker 3: expand educating them here at home is going to help
- 22:12Speaker 3: that they don't go out of state. Makes it a
- 22:13Speaker 3: lot harder to or it makes it easier to keep
- 22:15Speaker 3: them here. And then this isn't something that you can
- 22:18Speaker 3: just walk into a tex Score or something and get
- 22:20Speaker 3: or a technicals Well, you need to go to a
- 22:23Speaker 3: college this This is a four year degree. So this is
- 22:25Speaker 3: something that's going to be massively important for the future
- 22:27Speaker 3: of our technical infrastructure. I mean everything around us. You
- 22:30Speaker 3: mentioned AI a moment ago AI is great, but that's
- 22:32Speaker 3: going to require a whole new level of cybersecurity, you know.
- 22:35Speaker 3: I mean, there's so much that plays into that. Very important.
- 22:37Speaker 10: It is very important, and the thing that I will
- 22:41Speaker 10: say is that we want all of our students again
- 22:44Speaker 10: to have access to this high demand feel Again, we
- 22:49Speaker 10: believe that cybersecurity, as I said, is the future, and
- 22:52Speaker 10: we want that education to be accessible to as many
- 22:56Speaker 10: students as possible here in this valley. The point that
- 22:59Speaker 10: you may about wanting to keep students here. The good
- 23:02Speaker 10: news about West Virginia State is that the majority of
- 23:04Speaker 10: our students are from West Virginia and when they graduate,
- 23:07Speaker 10: they stay right here.
- 23:08Speaker 3: So important to West Virginia. Yeah, that's so important to
- 23:10Speaker 3: keep our talent here at home. And I'd like to
- 23:12Speaker 3: see that at a text with a question, See, I
- 23:15Speaker 3: have two questions off the text line. Does West Virginia
- 23:18Speaker 3: State University offer remote classes for working parents?
- 23:21Speaker 10: Yeah, well, we do have an inventory of online programs.
- 23:26Speaker 10: I would encourage your listener to visit our website and
- 23:30Speaker 10: check out our Academic Affairs page and there you will
- 23:33Speaker 10: see a listening of listing of online courses that are
- 23:36Speaker 10: geared toward working, working.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Professionals, and then they can find the same information there.
- 23:41Speaker 3: I'm sure, but also curious if any of the classes
- 23:44Speaker 3: lead to a veterinarian degree.
- 23:47Speaker 10: Yeah, not yet, Dale, I will say one of the
- 23:49Speaker 10: things that we are working on, because again we are
- 23:52Speaker 10: a land grand institution in agriculture is an important part
- 23:55Speaker 10: of who we are. We are working to stand up
- 23:58Speaker 10: a VET tech program and we're doing that in cooperation
- 24:01Speaker 10: with West Virginia University and the West Virginia Department of Agriculture.
- 24:05Speaker 10: We're working to identify funding, but ultimately we want to
- 24:08Speaker 10: provide that program for that students can pursue a degree
- 24:12Speaker 10: in veterinary and technicians education and go out and help
- 24:16Speaker 10: our vets serve our animals across the state.
- 24:21Speaker 3: I wanted to talk about sports for just a minute
- 24:23Speaker 3: for a couple of reasons. Number one, I think the
- 24:25Speaker 3: most important reason for this station anyway is our sister station,
- 24:29Speaker 3: Woody Wood Station one who seven three. The Beat is
- 24:31Speaker 3: going to be the home for West Virginia State sports
- 24:33Speaker 3: for this upcoming season for football and basketball. So that's
- 24:35Speaker 3: going to get underway very soon. Sure, I know what.
- 24:38Speaker 3: He is massively excited to be putting on this to
- 24:41Speaker 3: get it out on the airwaves. And man, I love
- 24:44Speaker 3: the MEC. I love the sports that we have here
- 24:46Speaker 3: in the valley, and I'm really looking forward to this.
- 24:48Speaker 3: I think this is going to be a neat partnership.
- 24:49Speaker 10: It's going to be a phenomenal partnership. Dell and we
- 24:52Speaker 10: are so excited to be joining The Beat here to
- 24:57Speaker 10: have our basketball and football game games on air. It's
- 25:02Speaker 10: going to be huge for us because what we really
- 25:05Speaker 10: are excited about is getting Yellowjacket athletics in the homes
- 25:11Speaker 10: of all of your listeners, because we believe that our
- 25:14Speaker 10: athletes are coaches and all of our university do an
- 25:17Speaker 10: excellent job of competing on the field and also in
- 25:22Speaker 10: the classroom. But this is an opportunity to shine a
- 25:24Speaker 10: bright light on the remarkable job that our athletes do.
- 25:29Speaker 10: We're excited for the partnership and I look forward to
- 25:32Speaker 10: tuning in as well when I can't be at the
- 25:34Speaker 10: games in person.
- 25:35Speaker 3: And that's what's going to make it so great, as
- 25:36Speaker 3: you'll be able to do that if you're not not
- 25:38Speaker 3: be able to make the games in person, and not
- 25:39Speaker 3: just the history of sports and not only at West
- 25:42Speaker 3: Virginia State in the NEC and then formerly in the
- 25:44Speaker 3: wvi I A C. I remember when I was a
- 25:47Speaker 3: kid in the in the eighties, my aunt had tickets.
- 25:51Speaker 3: She would always get tickets to the wvi AC tournament
- 25:53Speaker 3: here down. Her and her husband were graduates of mors
- 25:56Speaker 3: or UC of UC and so they were big UC fans.
- 25:58Speaker 3: But we would go in there, and we I mean
- 26:00Speaker 3: we went. We would we would take the rod Man,
- 26:02Speaker 3: we would go for the entire tournament. Just about State
- 26:04Speaker 3: would be in there. Uh you know, I remember State,
- 26:07Speaker 3: you see for some reason wheeling I think was because
- 26:09Speaker 3: of their uniforms back in the time. I just remember,
- 26:12Speaker 3: you know, certain certain teams that would be playing. But
- 26:14Speaker 3: I just love the the the excitement and uh and
- 26:18Speaker 3: everything that came along with that. And it's only grown
- 26:20Speaker 3: since then. I mean since the wv A a C turned
- 26:23Speaker 3: into the NBC. MEC has expanded some. And I mean
- 26:26Speaker 3: State has a pretty good position in both football and
- 26:28Speaker 3: basketball right now. Got great coaches, a good program. It's
- 26:31Speaker 3: a good place to be. It's a phenomenal place to be.
- 26:33Speaker 3: And surely as we kick off the football season, I
- 26:37Speaker 3: know that coach Pennington is is fired up and ready
- 26:41Speaker 3: to go. In the evenings, my wife and I will
- 26:44Speaker 3: walk campus and we walked past the football field and
- 26:48Speaker 3: we will see our our yellowjackets and our coaching staff
- 26:51Speaker 3: down there getting ready, getting ready to compete. And I
- 26:54Speaker 3: know it's going to be a phenomenal season, which is
- 26:56Speaker 3: really going to be enhanced with this partnership with the Beat.
- 27:00Speaker 3: Just briefly to tell our listening audience and possibly President
- 27:04Speaker 3: Gae Cage if he didn't know, we have Daniel Woods
- 27:07Speaker 3: is going to be our playboy play announcer for this.
- 27:09Speaker 3: Tom Bragg is going to be color commentary for football.
- 27:13Speaker 3: The combined knowledge of ma AC and WVI I C
- 27:16Speaker 3: history among those two are incredible. So there's gonna be
- 27:19Speaker 3: great context given to the Playboy play as well. They
- 27:22Speaker 3: know the teams, the players, the areas. It's going to
- 27:24Speaker 3: be that with that broadcast team that we're inserting in there.
- 27:27Speaker 3: It's pro level broadcast right away. It's going to be
- 27:30Speaker 3: done right, and it's going to sound really really good.
- 27:32Speaker 4: We can't lose.
- 27:33Speaker 3: Yeah, it's gonna be awesome. Really looking forward to that.
- 27:35Speaker 3: All the great stuff that's going on at West Virginia
- 27:37Speaker 3: State University at the beginning of this new school year,
- 27:39Speaker 3: and I just think it's a deciding time and I
- 27:41Speaker 3: wanted to take a couple of moments to talk to
- 27:43Speaker 3: President Cage about that. I really appreciate your time in
- 27:45Speaker 3: coming in this morning and sharing some of your insights
- 27:47Speaker 3: and your positivity. I'm really excited for this upcoming year.
- 27:50Speaker 4: Thank you, Dale, and go State. Go State. That's right,
- 27:53Speaker 4: let's go State. Let's do this.

- 32:08Speaker 4: Well have a minutes at the top of the hour,
- 32:09Speaker 4: It's Friday.
- 32:10Speaker 3: Happy Friday, everybody, and thanks for listening to WHS. The
- 32:13Speaker 3: Voice of Charleston. Coming up next is going to be
- 32:16Speaker 3: talk Line with Dave Wilson and TJ Meadows. TJ will
- 32:19Speaker 3: stop in here with us for the last couple of
- 32:21Speaker 3: minutes of the show that'll be coming up here in
- 32:23Speaker 3: just a little bit, and then later on today TJ
- 32:27Speaker 3: is filling in for Dave Allen this afternoon on Midday
- 32:29Speaker 3: in the last hour, Amanda Baron is going to have
- 32:31Speaker 3: the first two hours on her own, I do believe,
- 32:35Speaker 3: so that'll be this afternoon on Metro News Midday, and
- 32:37Speaker 3: then I'll be back this afternoon with Dave Weekly at
- 32:40Speaker 3: three oh six for Metro News Hotline. A great show
- 32:43Speaker 3: that we have for you today, like we do every Friday.
- 32:45Speaker 3: Of course, we play the game Boy Sell that'll be
- 32:47Speaker 3: at the top of the four o'clock hour. We'll have
- 32:49Speaker 3: beer Friday at four thirty three, and all kinds of
- 32:52Speaker 3: great stuff that's coming up on Metro News Hotline later
- 32:54Speaker 3: on this afternoon. A great weekend show. I hope that
- 32:56Speaker 3: when we do our Friday show, I hope that you
- 32:58Speaker 3: will tune into that you've not given it a chance before,
- 33:01Speaker 3: which leads me into something that I thought that we
- 33:04Speaker 3: could do here today. By the way, I wanted to
- 33:06Speaker 3: remind you that the favety Live is brought to you
- 33:09Speaker 3: in part by Meek's Rentals and Leasing, offering stress free
- 33:11Speaker 3: property management for both renters and property owners Visit meets
- 33:15Speaker 3: rentals dot com. So I was thinking about Hotline today
- 33:19Speaker 3: when I came on the show, and I think I
- 33:21Speaker 3: mentioned that I had a musical guest. I was going
- 33:23Speaker 3: to try to do some live music, and unfortunately that
- 33:25Speaker 3: fell through, and after reaching out to a couple places,
- 33:28Speaker 3: I decided what I was going to do is I'm
- 33:30Speaker 3: just going to replay the interview that Dave Weekly had
- 33:33Speaker 3: with David Mayfield. David Mayfield is going to be hosting
- 33:35Speaker 3: Mountain Stage this weekend, and this is an interview that
- 33:39Speaker 3: took place yesterday during the show, and I thought that
- 33:41Speaker 3: it would be interesting to have this on here. Number One,
- 33:43Speaker 3: we have Mountain Stage on every single week. We've done
- 33:46Speaker 3: this for well over a decade now. Larry Gross was
- 33:50Speaker 3: a mainstay for the longest time. Kathy Matteya is a
- 33:53Speaker 3: guest almost every week at Thursday at four o'clock, and
- 33:57Speaker 3: then David Mayfield when he fills in as our guest
- 34:00Speaker 3: as well, which he was yesterday. But we've done this
- 34:02Speaker 3: segment on Hotline for well over a decade where we
- 34:05Speaker 3: preview upcoming shows, talk to the great talent from Mountain Stage,
- 34:10Speaker 3: whether it be Larry, whether it be David or Kathy Matteya,
- 34:12Speaker 3: get stories out of them, have them share a little
- 34:14Speaker 3: bit about themselves some of their experiences, and then also
- 34:17Speaker 3: talk a lot about Mountain Sage. It's one of the
- 34:18Speaker 3: favorite segments that we do on Hotline every weekend, and
- 34:21Speaker 3: yesterday they've had an opportunity to talk to David Mayfield
- 34:25Speaker 3: and they're talking about the show that's coming up this
- 34:27Speaker 3: August or this this August, this Saturday, that's gonna happen
- 34:33Speaker 3: at at the Culture Center Theater here in Charleston at
- 34:36Speaker 3: seven o'clock. And the lineup is a is a darn
- 34:38Speaker 3: good lineup they're gonna have. So I can get the
- 34:41Speaker 3: full have it over on my notes here. It's gonna
- 34:45Speaker 3: be a good lineup they're gonna have there this weekend.
- 34:47Speaker 3: It's Amethyst Kea, Matt Anderson, Margaret Glass by Vanessa Collier
- 34:53Speaker 3: and Ron Sowell.
- 34:54Speaker 4: We have within this clip.
- 34:56Speaker 3: That we're getting ready to play, we do have clips
- 34:58Speaker 3: from Vanessa Collier, Ron Soul. So I'm looking forward to
- 35:01Speaker 3: bringing this to you. If you haven't listened to Hotline
- 35:04Speaker 3: with Day Weekly and Me that comes on in the
- 35:06Speaker 3: afternoons at three o'clock, this will give you a little
- 35:07Speaker 3: bit of an idea, and especially if you haven't heard
- 35:09Speaker 3: of this segment we do with Mountain Stage because I
- 35:11Speaker 3: always have a good time with that. It's always great
- 35:13Speaker 3: to have Larry grosson here or Kathy Mateya when they're available,
- 35:16Speaker 3: and David of course is awesome as well, so well,
- 35:18Speaker 3: I want to go ahead and play that now. This
- 35:19Speaker 3: is Dave Weekly with David Mayfield from Mountain Stage, previewing
- 35:22Speaker 3: this weekend's concert coming up at the Cultural Center here
- 35:25Speaker 3: in Charleston.
- 35:26Speaker 8: And let's bring David Mayfield back to the show. He's
- 35:30Speaker 8: going to be hosting Mountain Stage subbon in for Kathy
- 35:33Speaker 8: Mateya Hey, David, how you doing.
- 35:35Speaker 15: I'm doing well, Dave? How are you?
- 35:37Speaker 8: Hey man? Are you the kind of guy that's got
- 35:38Speaker 8: a lot of bumper stickers on your car?
- 35:40Speaker 15: You know, I don't have any bumper stickers on my car.
- 35:43Speaker 15: I've got about a fifty of them on my guitar case.
- 35:46Speaker 8: Ah, there you go, there you go, mess the car.
- 35:51Speaker 15: The bumper stickers that said my son is my child
- 35:55Speaker 15: is on the honor roll.
- 35:56Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 35:57Speaker 15: Yeah, my parents never had one of those.
- 36:00Speaker 8: That's great.
- 36:01Speaker 15: Hey.
- 36:01Speaker 8: You know what, though, I would have figured that would
- 36:04Speaker 8: have been totally on brand for you to have like
- 36:06Speaker 8: ten bumper stickers on your car.
- 36:08Speaker 15: You know, well I might now, you know, I've been
- 36:11Speaker 15: listening and since it's not a trend, I think I
- 36:13Speaker 15: need to try to bring it back.
- 36:15Speaker 8: I like what you I like what you did there,
- 36:17Speaker 8: hey man. Before we get into the music and what's
- 36:19Speaker 8: coming up on Mountain Stage, and we'll talk about a
- 36:20Speaker 8: couple of the artists. I didn't know you were into baseball.
- 36:24Speaker 8: You're going to be throwing out the first pitch at
- 36:26Speaker 8: a dirty birds game.
- 36:28Speaker 15: I know that. What do you think about that?
- 36:30Speaker 8: I'm always I think it's pretty good. Do you even
- 36:32Speaker 8: own a mitt?
- 36:34Speaker 15: You know? I was a catcher in Little league and
- 36:38Speaker 15: I still have my nineteen ninety six Winners at Heart Trophy.
- 36:44Speaker 8: Winter's at Art. It's excellent. That's excellent. So that's going
- 36:48Speaker 8: to be this Sunday. You're going to be throwing the
- 36:49Speaker 8: first pitch out.
- 36:51Speaker 15: That's right, all right?
- 36:52Speaker 8: All right? Well, hey man, are you practicing, William?
- 36:56Speaker 15: Yeah, I'm I'm trying to, you know.
- 36:59Speaker 8: Get my arm back up. All right, Hey, listen to
- 37:02Speaker 8: the professional level. Okay, listen. One piece of advice. Go
- 37:07Speaker 8: all the way up on top of the mound. Okay, okay,
- 37:11Speaker 8: don't don't be like forty five feet away. Don't do that.
- 37:14Speaker 8: Don't do that, because even if you throw the ball
- 37:16Speaker 8: correctly throw a strike, people are like, well, you know,
- 37:19Speaker 8: why is that guy on top of the mount. Get
- 37:21Speaker 8: on top of the mound. That's where you need to
- 37:23Speaker 8: throw that first pitch out.
- 37:24Speaker 15: All right, I'm going to do it for you, Dave, I.
- 37:26Speaker 8: Had a boy at a boy. All right, let's talk
- 37:28Speaker 8: about tell me a little bit about Mountain Stage this weekend.
- 37:31Speaker 15: Oh, it's going to be a good one, kind of
- 37:32Speaker 15: a bluesier theme. We've got saxophonist, singer band leader Vanessa
- 37:38Speaker 15: Collier on the show, Canadian roots and acoustic blues songwriter
- 37:43Speaker 15: Matt Anderson, and then Tennessee's Amethyst Kia, who was on
- 37:48Speaker 15: Mountain Stage a while back as part of the East
- 37:51Speaker 15: Tennessee State University Old Time Pride band.
- 37:54Speaker 4: Nice.
- 37:55Speaker 15: So it's cool that she's, you know, sort of developed
- 37:58Speaker 15: this cool Southern gossa kind of style. And then we'll
- 38:03Speaker 15: have singer, songwriter, amazing guitar player Margaret Glaspie on the show.
- 38:10Speaker 15: And Mountain Stages band leader Ron Soul just put out
- 38:15Speaker 15: an album and he's going to be a guest this
- 38:17Speaker 15: week and play some tunes from that. So excited about that,
- 38:19Speaker 15: and I'll brag on him a little bit. That album
- 38:23Speaker 15: made it to number ten on the Folk Alliance International
- 38:28Speaker 15: Radio Charts.
- 38:29Speaker 8: Nice Nice, he's gone global. Hey, we were talking about baseball.
- 38:34Speaker 8: Ron's kind of coming in for the bullpen because Hayes.
- 38:37Speaker 8: Carl is a late scratch right for this show.
- 38:40Speaker 15: That's right, absolutely, I see what you did there.
- 38:42Speaker 8: Yeah, hey, we let's talk a little bit about Vanessa Collier. Yeah.
- 38:48Speaker 15: Well, she's, you know, very awarded. She's one Contemporary Blues
- 38:54Speaker 15: Album of the Year, horn Player of the Year several times,
- 38:57Speaker 15: from the Blues Music Award Female Artist of the Year.
- 39:03Speaker 15: She's a yeah, just a powerhouse when it comes to
- 39:08Speaker 15: singing and playing the saxophone.
- 39:10Speaker 8: Hey, you know what, Larry Gross was with us last
- 39:13Speaker 8: week a week ago. We were inside the huddle and
- 39:16Speaker 8: we were talking about Vanessa Coier on that show, and
- 39:20Speaker 8: it's really unusual to see, uh, a performer use the
- 39:25Speaker 8: horn and sing at the same time. Have you ever
- 39:29Speaker 8: seen that? Never? Yeah, we were talking about some of
- 39:33Speaker 8: the artists that do that, like Louis Armstrong did that.
- 39:36Speaker 8: I was thinking about Jack Sheldon did that. You know,
- 39:41Speaker 8: It's just it's it's just unusual to see an artist
- 39:44Speaker 8: use a saxophone or a trumpet and then in the
- 39:47Speaker 8: midst of performing go away from the instrument and and
- 39:50Speaker 8: then sing.
- 39:53Speaker 15: Totally. Yeah it'll I think it'll be a real treat.
- 39:56Speaker 8: Yeah, Chet Baker, there's another example of somebody might do that. Coop,
- 40:00Speaker 8: We've got a little bit of Vanessa call your Music.
- 40:02Speaker 8: Let's hear a little bit of that. Vanessa Carer is
- 40:04Speaker 8: going to be a mountain stage this coming Sunday, with all.
- 40:17Speaker 7: You might trying to make it anywhere, no solution insight,
- 40:24Speaker 7: You can't hear about the mom, don't.
- 40:27Speaker 15: Know what to do.
- 40:32Speaker 8: A little all right, there you go, how's happened?
- 40:44Speaker 11: All right?
- 40:45Speaker 8: We've also got a track from Ron's new album, Dance
- 40:48Speaker 8: Till the Music Stops. This is a text mex Flavor
- 40:51Speaker 8: offering what do you know about this one?
- 40:54Speaker 15: Well? This features uh Joel Guzman on accordion, who it's
- 41:00Speaker 15: sort of a you know, a big star in the
- 41:03Speaker 15: world of accordion players, who's played with everyone from Joe Eli,
- 41:07Speaker 15: Paul Simon and Uh. It's really you know, speaks to
- 41:11Speaker 15: Rohm's style, that sort of creole meets R and B vibe.
- 41:19Speaker 8: All right, let's have a little bit of that coup.
- 41:33Speaker 8: I never knew what my heart had.
- 41:37Speaker 15: I never knew that was blumped.
- 41:40Speaker 8: Up just.
- 41:45Speaker 15: Bala. Never knew.
- 42:01Speaker 8: I could see where that that style of music would
- 42:03Speaker 8: just fit right in with Joe E Lee. I love
- 42:05Speaker 8: his Texas sound. He's got a great sound. Hey, David,
- 42:07Speaker 8: we're wrapping this up. We're with David Mayfield. He's subbing
- 42:10Speaker 8: in for Kathy Mattea on Mountain Stage this weekend. Of course,
- 42:14Speaker 8: there are tickets available mountain Stage dot org for more information.
- 42:17Speaker 8: That's where you can get your tickets as well. How's
- 42:20Speaker 8: your band doing? What kind of summer you had?
- 42:23Speaker 15: We were real busy. Yeah, we've been playing a lot
- 42:26Speaker 15: since our album came out. A lot of festivals, a
- 42:29Speaker 15: lot of playing in the hot sun and in our
- 42:33Speaker 15: bluegrass suits. Uh so you know, can't complain.
- 42:38Speaker 8: Well that's good. Now, when does that start to wind
- 42:40Speaker 8: down for you? When? When's the when's the slow period
- 42:42Speaker 8: for you?
- 42:44Speaker 15: Well? There's there is really isn't much of a slow period.
- 42:47Speaker 15: Uh the winter time. I do a lot of studio work, Okay,
- 42:51Speaker 15: I master albums. I've got a mastering studio and I
- 42:55Speaker 15: just mastered Tim O'Brien's latest album.
- 42:57Speaker 8: Oh nice. Okay, Hey, so let me.
- 43:00Speaker 15: Play around here, let me a studio in the winter.
- 43:03Speaker 8: Let me ask you this as well.
- 43:04Speaker 15: I mean.
- 43:07Speaker 8: You've hosted Mountain Stage how many times now?
- 43:10Speaker 15: I think one hundred and thirteen, No, seven.
- 43:14Speaker 8: So it's getting easier for you, right.
- 43:17Speaker 15: I think, so I know where to stand, I know
- 43:21Speaker 15: which microphone to talk into now, so I'm getting the
- 43:25Speaker 15: hang of it.
- 43:26Speaker 8: Had a Boy, Had a Boy? Hey, well, listen, thanks
- 43:28Speaker 8: for coming on the show to talk about this weekend's
- 43:30Speaker 8: edition to Mountain Stage, and best of luck when you
- 43:32Speaker 8: get to the ballpark this weekend. That's going to be
- 43:35Speaker 8: a busy day for you. Man.
- 43:38Speaker 15: Yeah, I'm excited about it though. It's you know, it's
- 43:41Speaker 15: the adventure of a lifetime. I've always wanted to do
- 43:45Speaker 15: something like this, and I'm thrilled to have been asked.
- 43:48Speaker 15: And I hope I don't make a fool of myself.
- 43:51Speaker 8: Dude, I'm sure you're going to do just fine. Think
- 43:52Speaker 8: about that, Coop. Here's the situation. This is going to
- 43:54Speaker 8: be a first in the history of Mountain Stage, right
- 43:56Speaker 8: where the host is going to throw out the first
- 43:58Speaker 8: pitch at a ball game and then literally a couple
- 44:01Speaker 8: of hours later, be hosting the show at the Culture Center.
- 44:03Speaker 4: That's good.
- 44:04Speaker 8: See, yeah, Dave, good luck with that.
- 44:06Speaker 15: Thank you so much.
- 44:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm trying.
- 44:08Speaker 15: Maybe if you can think of one more thing I
- 44:10Speaker 15: could do in between.
- 44:12Speaker 8: No, no, maybe sell a few programs poor a few
- 44:15Speaker 8: beers at the yard before you go over there today. Yeah,
- 44:17Speaker 8: that'll be good.
- 44:18Speaker 15: Like a ribbon cutting ceremony at a olive garden.
- 44:21Speaker 8: You ever thought about selling any used cars or you know,
- 44:24Speaker 8: taking a shift at a radio station or something. Hey Dave,
- 44:26Speaker 8: thanks for coming on the show. Best elect this weekend.
- 44:30Speaker 3: Hey, yeah, that was David Mayfield. He's gonna be hosting

- 48:04Speaker 3: Favetty Love wchs the Voice for Charleston. Hey, thanks for
- 48:06Speaker 3: tuning in this week. I really appreciate it. I had
- 48:08Speaker 3: a good time filling in for Dave Allen. I used
- 48:10Speaker 3: to do the show a little bit more often, but
- 48:11Speaker 3: Dave hardly takes any time off number one, and we
- 48:15Speaker 3: try to get some guest hosts and things in here
- 48:17Speaker 3: to expand the roster a little bit when Dave's gone
- 48:21Speaker 3: when it's just one off. But everybody's busy this week,
- 48:24Speaker 3: and I don't mind sliding in when I need to.
- 48:26Speaker 3: I enjoyed doing the show. I just know that you
- 48:29Speaker 3: guys like Dave and so Dave will be back on Monday,
- 48:31Speaker 3: and we'll be hopefully recharged, re energized, and ready to go.
- 48:35Speaker 3: One thing I wanted to tell you about before I
- 48:36Speaker 3: bring t J Meadows one to give us an idea
- 48:38Speaker 3: of what's going to happen on the last episode of
- 48:41Speaker 3: talk Line for the week. I want to tell you
- 48:42Speaker 3: things are a little bit different on the sports things
- 48:44Speaker 3: for WHS this upcoming year. For one thing, Saturday afternoons
- 48:48Speaker 3: are going to be more free. We don't have the
- 48:51Speaker 3: nine hours of WU coverage that we've had for the
- 48:53Speaker 3: last decade or so. That's not something that Metro News
- 48:58Speaker 3: is providing this year. So it's not like CHA isn't caring,
- 49:00Speaker 3: it's just not a program that's available. We have other
- 49:03Speaker 3: ancellary programs covering WU that's going to be one, but
- 49:06Speaker 3: just that nine hour game day coverage we're not going
- 49:08Speaker 3: to have this year. What that allows on WCCHS is
- 49:11Speaker 3: for us to expand our college football games, so we're
- 49:15Speaker 3: actually going to have more Playboy Play action on WCCHS
- 49:17Speaker 3: than we've had in a long time. I think that
- 49:20Speaker 3: I counted up, not including bowl games in the National
- 49:23Speaker 3: Championship Playoffs, we have thirty two college football games on
- 49:27Speaker 3: WCCHS and fourteen ninety ESPN over the college football season,
- 49:33Speaker 3: and when you add in bowl games and the entire
- 49:35Speaker 3: playoff run because we have that as well, it's going
- 49:37Speaker 3: to be well over fifty college football games we'll have
- 49:40Speaker 3: here on WCHS throughout the year, and then NFL coverage
- 49:44Speaker 3: stays basically the same that it's been over the last
- 49:47Speaker 3: couple of years. Will have a doubleheader every Sunday on
- 49:51Speaker 3: fourteen ninety WSWW. We'll have a one o'clock a game
- 49:54Speaker 3: over here on WCCHS to make room for sports Line
- 49:57Speaker 3: later on Sunday evenings. This year, we've added a whole slew.
- 50:02Speaker 3: It's not every but it is a select and it's
- 50:05Speaker 3: several matchups of the Sunday, Thursday, and Monday night games.
- 50:08Speaker 3: So we're going to have about ten of those all
- 50:09Speaker 3: together throughout the season as well. All told, over one
- 50:12Speaker 3: hundred football games will be on five ad whs this
- 50:15Speaker 3: year and those are at a cost of zero to you.
- 50:19Speaker 4: So if you're.
- 50:19Speaker 3: Struggling to find your sports and all these streaming things
- 50:21Speaker 3: are about there, and hey, guess what, play by play
- 50:24Speaker 3: is much better on the radio as well, give it
- 50:26Speaker 3: a try. You might save yourself a little money, but
- 50:28Speaker 3: at least you'll find good entertainment. Our high school football
- 50:32Speaker 3: season kicks off on the twenty eighth with Spring Valley
- 50:33Speaker 3: at George, Washington. It will be a doubleheader for that weekend.
- 50:36Speaker 3: Our second game will be Poka at Buffalo. Both of
- 50:38Speaker 3: those games will be right here on five ADWCHS. As
- 50:41Speaker 3: we return to the game of the week format we
- 50:44Speaker 3: covered Hurricane exclusively last year. We'll have plenty of Hurricane
- 50:46Speaker 3: games on the radio, but it's not going to be
- 50:48Speaker 3: the exclusive team we coverage that we cover Spring Valley
- 50:51Speaker 3: George Washington, PoCA at Buffalo, Nitro, Saint Albans, Parkersburg Hurricane,
- 50:55Speaker 3: and South Charleston George Washington. That covers our first four
- 50:59Speaker 3: games that we're going to have, and we'll release the
- 51:01Speaker 3: remainder of the schedule after that. Our sister station, which
- 51:03Speaker 3: is ninety six to one KWS, will still be carrying
- 51:07Speaker 3: every Hoover football game. And of course, as we talked
- 51:10Speaker 3: with President Cage earlier. With President Cage earlier, we know
- 51:16Speaker 3: that we're gonna be doing wes Virginia State football as well.
- 51:18Speaker 3: On one O seven three the Beat. The tickets have
- 51:20Speaker 3: been claimed. The tickets have been claimed for the Reds,
- 51:22Speaker 3: so you can stop calling in now. I'll have more
- 51:24Speaker 3: tickets to give away. They know they were gonna be
- 51:26Speaker 3: so popular. I would have had more, but you can
- 51:29Speaker 3: stop calling it. And they have been claimed that to laugh.
- 51:31Speaker 3: That cackle was from TJ. How you doing this morning, TJ?
- 51:34Speaker 8: I'm doing great. What a great high school lineup?
- 51:36Speaker 2: Man?
- 51:36Speaker 4: I am.
- 51:37Speaker 3: I love this type of year, this time of year
- 51:39Speaker 3: because we really get to lean into the local with
- 51:42Speaker 3: the high school with the high school sports. I miss
- 51:44Speaker 3: having our WVU coverage, but I'm a little bit excited
- 51:46Speaker 3: to be able to bring double headers every single week
- 51:48Speaker 3: on wc Just.
- 51:49Speaker 4: It's good stuff.
- 51:49Speaker 19: Yeah, And to your point, there's something about the play
- 51:52Speaker 19: by play in radio.
- 51:53Speaker 4: It's just better.
- 51:54Speaker 19: It's just better. Turn the TV down, take it to
- 51:58Speaker 19: the game with you. I love watching if I'm live
- 52:01Speaker 19: at the game and having the guys in my ear
- 52:03Speaker 19: because there's elements they see that you don't see.
- 52:05Speaker 3: Just wonderful and just a quick thing. Radio is live,
- 52:07Speaker 3: streaming is is not. So you want to tune in
- 52:10Speaker 3: live to the radio. What's coming up on talk line?
- 52:12Speaker 19: So Ryan Schmeltz from Foxh's Radio is going to join us.
- 52:14Speaker 19: Of course, Putin and Trump getting together today. We'll follow
- 52:17Speaker 19: that story. Continue to talk about this asset sale of
- 52:19Speaker 19: state hospitals to this private country company.
- 52:22Speaker 8: Dig into that.
- 52:23Speaker 19: Chris Steierwaltz at eleven o six and it's Friday, so
- 52:26Speaker 19: it's Steam release.
- 52:27Speaker 4: Steam release. I know you guys love that. At least
- 52:31Speaker 4: you don't. You don't have to respond. You don't have
- 52:33Speaker 4: to respond, or you don't respond.
- 52:34Speaker 8: There's something nice about that.
- 52:35Speaker 4: It's a feature of the program. Yes, indeed, DJ things
- 52:37Speaker 4: a bunch. We'll toss you.
- 52:38Speaker 3: We'll see a little later on, in about seven minutes
- 52:40Speaker 3: on the other side on talk Line with Dave Wilson.
- 52:42Speaker 3: That's going to do it for me right now. We'll
- 52:43Speaker 3: be like this afternoon at three oh six on Metro
- 52:46Speaker 3: News Hotline. Have a great day, everyone, and thanks for
- 52:47Speaker 3: listening this week. Dave Allen back on Monday. Have a
- 52:50Speaker 3: great weekend. I'm Deale Cooper. This is five adwc HS,
