- 0:09Speaker 1: Patriots Training Camp, this is Patriots Unfiltered, all right. The
- 0:15Speaker 1: day is finally here, Day one, Patriots Training Camp, twenty
- 0:20Speaker 1: twenty two. We'll be here live throughout today's practice. I'm
- 0:24Speaker 1: Mike do Soo Patriots dot Com. Join Paul Perillo, Alexandra Francisco. Guys,
- 0:31Speaker 1: we've got the crowd here. I don't know if it's
- 0:33Speaker 1: gonna be a super interesting day in terms of what
- 0:36Speaker 1: happens on the field, but I think we're back football.
- 0:39Speaker 1: The train has started on the twenty two season, and
- 0:41Speaker 1: uh and here we are. Happy New Year, guys, Happy
- 0:43Speaker 1: New Year. I don't know it's gonna be too much
- 0:47Speaker 1: exciting happening. We're gonna be here anymore, that's true, Paul.
- 0:53Speaker 1: I think having a mic problem there. Flip the switch
- 0:56Speaker 1: on the top of your thing, is what I'm being
- 0:57Speaker 1: told in my There's our guys, But guys, we've already
- 1:00Speaker 1: got some players here coming out now. Mac Jones, of course,
- 1:02Speaker 1: came out to a big cheer before practice started, getting
- 1:06Speaker 1: that talking to the crowd. A lot of Mac Jones
- 1:08Speaker 1: jerseys there, and I think, you know, for the people
- 1:10Speaker 1: that are joining us here today who maybe check out
- 1:13Speaker 1: a little bit during the offseason, maybe we give them
- 1:16Speaker 1: a little bit of a recap. But I think the
- 1:17Speaker 1: biggest thing that we need to know coming in here
- 1:19Speaker 1: today is Mac Jones year two. The big free agency
- 1:22Speaker 1: class from last year. You know, some returns a little
- 1:25Speaker 1: better than maybe others, but overall, I think that's kind
- 1:27Speaker 1: of the core, along with some of the young guys
- 1:29Speaker 1: that haven't gotten a chance yet, especially on the defensive
- 1:31Speaker 1: side of the ball, with some of the veterans no
- 1:33Speaker 1: longer here, Dante Hi Tower, Kyle Vannoi, Jamie Collins, a
- 1:36Speaker 1: few J C. Jackson of course ending up with the Chargers.
- 1:39Speaker 1: But overall, I think there's gonna be some opportunities for
- 1:41Speaker 1: some new faces to step up. And also, you know,
- 1:44Speaker 1: for some guys last year that maybe didn't quite hit
- 1:47Speaker 1: the level that we were all kind of hoping for,
- 1:49Speaker 1: expecting to maybe build off of what they did last
- 1:51Speaker 1: year and maybe take that second year leap, so to speak.
- 1:54Speaker 1: As free agents. Yeah, and there's a couple of guys
- 1:58Speaker 1: in particular to see, and that's Nelson Agilo and John
- 2:01Speaker 1: Nu Smith. Those are the two guys that I kind
- 2:04Speaker 1: of want to see if there's anything to the whole uh,
- 2:07Speaker 1: you know, a little bit more comfort in the system
- 2:10Speaker 1: kind of nonsense. I'll call it what I think it
- 2:12Speaker 1: is and see if they look any different to me
- 2:18Speaker 1: that in just the overall teams speed And we talked
- 2:20Speaker 1: about this a couple of weeks ago on the regular
- 2:23Speaker 1: unfiltered shows. They drafted a lot of guys that are
- 2:26Speaker 1: really fast, and that was one thing that I know
- 2:27Speaker 1: that you know a lot of people talked about during
- 2:30Speaker 1: the course of last season, is they really needed They're
- 2:32Speaker 1: really slow on the field. Their lack of speed shows up.
- 2:35Speaker 1: They drafted a lot of guys that were at the
- 2:37Speaker 1: top at their position groups in terms of speed. I
- 2:40Speaker 1: want to see if that translates to the practice field.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Probably not a good gauge now, but like as as
- 2:45Speaker 1: Mike said, once the pads get on, maybe toward the weekend,
- 2:48Speaker 1: we get to see a little bit more if that
- 2:50Speaker 1: speed manifests itself on the field, and already already some
- 2:53Speaker 1: good signs, you know, based off of what we saw
- 2:55Speaker 1: in OTAs in mini camp. You know, rookies Marcus Jones
- 2:59Speaker 1: here wasn't really a participant. I think he was one
- 3:02Speaker 1: guy we all were looking out for to see if
- 3:03Speaker 1: he might be on the pup list. Had double shoulder
- 3:05Speaker 1: surgery this offseason. But you know he's out on the
- 3:08Speaker 1: field right now. No red jersey. That's a you know,
- 3:10Speaker 1: a good sign. As well as rookie Pierre Strong who
- 3:12Speaker 1: you mentioned. Paul is rookie speed, one of those fast guys. Actually,
- 3:16Speaker 1: both of those guys I'd like to see running around
- 3:18Speaker 1: because they're supposed to be special when it comes to
- 3:21Speaker 1: just flat out speed. And so you're getting a chance.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Now we're working on some warm ups. This is kind
- 3:26Speaker 1: of the pre practice period where you know, everybody kind
- 3:28Speaker 1: of gets onto the field where we're trying to do
- 3:30Speaker 1: our due diligence to take attendance, to make sure we've
- 3:33Speaker 1: got everybody checked off and we've got a full compliment
- 3:36Speaker 1: of squad. So, Alex, this is your first well it's
- 3:38Speaker 1: not your first training camp, but it's your first training
- 3:40Speaker 1: first internal, real one because with us, you're up here
- 3:44Speaker 1: above this on the sides of Gillette Stadium getting to
- 3:46Speaker 1: us to insert the ropes. But you've been here a
- 3:48Speaker 1: few months though, now, I mean, what are you what
- 3:50Speaker 1: are you curious to see this this in this training camp?
- 3:54Speaker 1: Like you said, all those guys that were really hoping
- 3:56Speaker 1: to make that second year jump. I'm really hoping the
- 3:59Speaker 1: guys that underperform last year really show out here in
- 4:02Speaker 1: camp and uh, rookie class, I think what I'm most
- 4:06Speaker 1: excited to see how how they all come in. How
- 4:10Speaker 1: that translates. I want to see Taekwon run and uh,
- 4:14Speaker 1: it's gonna be running up that hill over there. Not
- 4:16Speaker 1: to make a stranger things reference, but again, rookie Jack Jones,
- 4:23Speaker 1: we're also you know, seeing him down there, getting a
- 4:25Speaker 1: look right now at Mac Jones getting warmed up. You know,
- 4:27Speaker 1: Jack Jones definitely in the mix. But I think it's
- 4:29Speaker 1: a good point, Alex, and you know, we'll see which
- 4:31Speaker 1: of those rookies are are getting I guess opportunity reps
- 4:34Speaker 1: and not, you know, somewhat in the learning phase guys
- 4:37Speaker 1: that that are right in the mix. But but right
- 4:38Speaker 1: now we're we're getting to look at Mac Jones and
- 4:41Speaker 1: I think it's really going to be about him in
- 4:42Speaker 1: this training camp and all eyes will be on him,
- 4:44Speaker 1: especially joint practice is coming up in a couple of weeks,
- 4:47Speaker 1: and you know, we'd love to hear from you guys
- 4:49Speaker 1: of course too. Please, you know, call in web radio
- 4:51Speaker 1: at Patriots dot com, send us an email, and if
- 4:54Speaker 1: you have a chance, come on down. I mean, this
- 4:55Speaker 1: is as good as it gets free football right here.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Guys are gonna be back signing autographs this year. Beautiful day,
- 5:02Speaker 1: perfect day, you know, not too humid as it's been,
- 5:06Speaker 1: so I think it's a good uh, it's a good
- 5:07Speaker 1: chance to get things kind of rolling here a little bit.
- 5:10Speaker 1: But it looks like we got, you know, pretty pretty
- 5:11Speaker 1: good crowd, pretty good crowd right now. And as we're
- 5:13Speaker 1: continuing to sort of set the table as to what
- 5:16Speaker 1: we're looking for, a couple other things that jump into
- 5:19Speaker 1: my mind. I'm just looking at some players as they're
- 5:21Speaker 1: coming out, some veteran free agents that the Patriots signed,
- 5:25Speaker 1: particularly the cornerbacks. Malcolm Butler is out there, Terrence Mitchell
- 5:30Speaker 1: is another guy. I'm kind of, you know, anxious to
- 5:33Speaker 1: see what kind of role either one of those guys
- 5:37Speaker 1: can can carve if at all. You know, there's one
- 5:39Speaker 1: local report, Greg Badard, who we talk about a lot
- 5:42Speaker 1: on our show, Um sort of speculated that Malcolm Butler
- 5:45Speaker 1: may not even really be part of the plans in
- 5:48Speaker 1: twenty twenty two. So I'm curious to see some of
- 5:51Speaker 1: those veteran guys. Obviously, they have big shoes to fill
- 5:53Speaker 1: with Stefan Gilmour and J. C. Jackson no longer here,
- 5:57Speaker 1: and there are going to be jobs that are open.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Jalen Mills has probably the only corner returning that will
- 6:04Speaker 1: play you know, you know he'll I don't know exactly, Yeah,
- 6:06Speaker 1: I don't know exactly where he'll play, but he will
- 6:09Speaker 1: have a role I would say more than likely. And
- 6:12Speaker 1: then the rest of them, this this question marks you know,
- 6:14Speaker 1: Jonathan Jones starting on PUP. You know a lot of
- 6:17Speaker 1: people think, you know, he's sort of a lock for
- 6:19Speaker 1: the slot corner job. You know, if he's healthy. Yeah,
- 6:23Speaker 1: you don't know what that shoulder is going to look like.
- 6:24Speaker 1: You know, you know, his contract is a little up there.
- 6:27Speaker 1: So if you get guys like Malcolm Butler and Terrence
- 6:29Speaker 1: Mitchell who are on you know, lower end deals, you know,
- 6:33Speaker 1: maybe there's you know, a job to be won there,
- 6:36Speaker 1: and and a veteran like Jones is fighting an uphill battle.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I'll get a look at some of the offensive lineman
- 6:41Speaker 1: coming out of course, cold strange rookie first round pick,
- 6:45Speaker 1: and it seems like he will be probably right in
- 6:47Speaker 1: the mix with the top group as we saw in
- 6:50Speaker 1: the mini camp sessions. Any other rookies that we haven't
- 6:54Speaker 1: really kind of touched upon yet, you know, it's a
- 6:57Speaker 1: little bit light. I mean, I think a lot of
- 6:58Speaker 1: us are expecting, you know, some kind of defensive line
- 7:01Speaker 1: linebacker with all the turnover that they've had, but they
- 7:04Speaker 1: didn't do that. And you know, out right now, I
- 7:06Speaker 1: see ray Kua McMillan walking out, who just was you know,
- 7:09Speaker 1: initially started on pup came off in the last two days,
- 7:12Speaker 1: so he's fully recovered. It peers from an ACL injury
- 7:15Speaker 1: last year. And I mean Paul last year, it seemed
- 7:18Speaker 1: like through offseason and going into training camp, early days
- 7:21Speaker 1: at training camp before he got hit, he was he
- 7:23Speaker 1: was kind of writing the mix with everything. It seems
- 7:25Speaker 1: like the arrows are porn for him being a significant
- 7:28Speaker 1: one of those guys to replace the high towers of
- 7:30Speaker 1: Van Noys, the Collinses. That's another one. It's another position
- 7:33Speaker 1: where there are jobs to be won. You know, there's
- 7:35Speaker 1: the only guy that you would figure with certainty that
- 7:39Speaker 1: will be in the mix is Joan Bentley. So whether
- 7:42Speaker 1: it's a guy like McMillan or I don't know, Jelanni Tavai, Yeah,
- 7:46Speaker 1: Mack Wilson, another Matt Wilson, you know, even you know,
- 7:50Speaker 1: if you want to like go to Harvey Longie. You know,
- 7:52Speaker 1: guys like that. Somebody is going to have to earn
- 7:54Speaker 1: a role. And I know a lot of people have
- 7:56Speaker 1: penciled in guys like Cameron mcgron and ray Kuon Milling
- 8:00Speaker 1: and these guys are automatically going to have jobs. But
- 8:02Speaker 1: this is where I think you're going to figure out
- 8:04Speaker 1: who actually does have one and who's still fighting for
- 8:08Speaker 1: a roster spot. So, Paul, we saw mac Jones seemed
- 8:11Speaker 1: like he was all over the place this year, you know,
- 8:13Speaker 1: different social media posts and you know those are your favorite,
- 8:15Speaker 1: uh of him working out with all his different receivers,
- 8:18Speaker 1: whether it was you know, guys that he played with
- 8:20Speaker 1: last year, whether it was new guys like Lil Jordan Humphrey.
- 8:24Speaker 1: I think, I mean it's hard to to talk about
- 8:25Speaker 1: the twenty twenty two Patriots and not say Mac Jones
- 8:28Speaker 1: is you know, the kind of the top storyline, and
- 8:31Speaker 1: you know, what does he do in year two? Bill
- 8:33Speaker 1: Belichick had a lot of praise for him yesterday. What
- 8:36Speaker 1: do you look for Paul in training camp? From Mac Jones?
- 8:39Speaker 1: I mean, he came in as a rookie last year,
- 8:40Speaker 1: looked pretty in control. Maybe hit the next level in
- 8:43Speaker 1: the off season in terms of the OTA's looking in command.
- 8:45Speaker 1: But you know, as we as we watched these practices
- 8:47Speaker 1: start to unfold, here, what do you want to see
- 8:49Speaker 1: out of mac Jones? And I would just see, ah,
- 8:52Speaker 1: let's say, a continuation of what we saw in terms
- 8:54Speaker 1: of the control. I thought last year he looked very
- 8:58Speaker 1: comfortable right from the start in terms of what he
- 9:00Speaker 1: was doing. And that was the thing that impressed me
- 9:02Speaker 1: the most. Was in terms of rookie quarterbacks that we've
- 9:05Speaker 1: seen over the years, I don't think that he played
- 9:07Speaker 1: really any differently than most of the ones we've seen,
- 9:10Speaker 1: But I do think he sort of comported themselves a
- 9:12Speaker 1: little differently than some of the ones that we have
- 9:14Speaker 1: seen in terms of getting the ball out. The players
- 9:17Speaker 1: didn't break down his off and I didn't think with
- 9:19Speaker 1: him running the show, says as opposed to a guy
- 9:23Speaker 1: like Matt Castle or Ryan Mallett in the past, you know,
- 9:26Speaker 1: there's been a lot of rookie quarterbacks in camp here,
- 9:29Speaker 1: I don't think we had one that had sort of
- 9:32Speaker 1: the potential to play like he did last year right
- 9:34Speaker 1: when he came in as a rookie, and like mac Jones,
- 9:37Speaker 1: did you know, the other rookies didn't have that opportunity,
- 9:39Speaker 1: and he looked different to me than most of those
- 9:42Speaker 1: other ones. Poise is a good word, Alex. Yeah, especially
- 9:44Speaker 1: when the pocket with all the chaos around him. I
- 9:47Speaker 1: think that's my experience of watching camp for a couple
- 9:49Speaker 1: of years of the some of the rookie quarterbacks charrets
- 9:51Speaker 1: did him a little bit. You know, you could see
- 9:52Speaker 1: them become very aware of the past rush at certain times,
- 9:55Speaker 1: and Matt really from the gate didn't really seem to
- 9:57Speaker 1: blink at things going on around him. You mentioned the
- 10:01Speaker 1: word poise, Alex, I mean, I think that's kind of
- 10:02Speaker 1: the perfect description. And you know, I think the question is, now,
- 10:05Speaker 1: how do you how do you build on that poise
- 10:07Speaker 1: and how do you know, show even more command of
- 10:09Speaker 1: the offense this year? Yeah, it's like you It's like,
- 10:11Speaker 1: right now, you're a quarterback that probably won't lose your
- 10:13Speaker 1: team the game, but can you win your team the game? Yeah?
- 10:16Speaker 1: I think that's a that's a good way to put
- 10:18Speaker 1: it in. You know, as a contrast, we're seeing, you know,
- 10:20Speaker 1: Bailey's Appy here a little bit in the background as
- 10:22Speaker 1: guys are getting warmed up in the red jersey fifty five.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Of course, that's the Patriots tradition to put the rookies
- 10:26Speaker 1: in the starting at number fifty. But I think it'll
- 10:29Speaker 1: be an interest in comparison to what Mac did last year.
- 10:31Speaker 1: And you know, granted, probably Bailey's Appy isn't going to
- 10:33Speaker 1: get a ton of meaningful reps here in training camp,
- 10:36Speaker 1: at least early on, but you know, something to kind
- 10:38Speaker 1: of contrast what we saw from Mac last year of
- 10:41Speaker 1: how does you know another rookie quarterback look? And maybe
- 10:43Speaker 1: he shows you know, similar grasp of the offense, similar
- 10:46Speaker 1: kind of poise. As we've said, you know, it's it's
- 10:48Speaker 1: it's great to develop quarterbacks. And you know, of course
- 10:50Speaker 1: we can't forget about old pal Brian Hoyer, who is
- 10:52Speaker 1: of course back again as a mentor and uh, I
- 10:55Speaker 1: know a lot of people want to make him a
- 10:56Speaker 1: coach this year, Paul, but it's unbelievable, but he's back.
- 11:00Speaker 1: He's back as a quarterback. The other season yea guy
- 11:04Speaker 1: just wants to play and everybody wants to kick him out, Like,
- 11:06Speaker 1: how would you feel about working twice as long and
- 11:08Speaker 1: not getting way hard one tenth the paycheck? Right? Uh? No? Thanks? Uh?
- 11:13Speaker 1: And here we're also too, we're watching you know, Time
- 11:16Speaker 1: Montgomery working out, which uh, which I think yesterday on
- 11:19Speaker 1: Patriots on Filter, Fred was talking a little bit one
- 11:21Speaker 1: of his kind of dark horses, a guy that's been
- 11:24Speaker 1: around the league a little bit, has played some running back,
- 11:26Speaker 1: has played some wide receiver, and I think anytime you
- 11:28Speaker 1: got that kind of versatility, it's hard to you know,
- 11:31Speaker 1: write that guy off as maybe winning a role, especially
- 11:33Speaker 1: if James White has to stay on pup um. If
- 11:36Speaker 1: one of those rookie running backs. I know, Pierre Strong
- 11:38Speaker 1: a lot of people saying he could be potentially in
- 11:40Speaker 1: line for that third down back role. But now maybe
- 11:42Speaker 1: it's time Montgomery. So you remember the last week when
- 11:45Speaker 1: I gave you my red flag thing with the Mike
- 11:48Speaker 1: Reese quote about James White. Well, step two of that process,
- 11:52Speaker 1: I think was in this week's notes, all about Pierre Strong.
- 11:55Speaker 1: So that it was like, where as I was getting
- 11:59Speaker 1: drunk points a bagel allway, I was like Ah, that
- 12:01Speaker 1: one doesn't smell right. Yeah, you got the pins on
- 12:04Speaker 1: the board, you're connecting the dots. Yeah. Well, I mean
- 12:07Speaker 1: I gotta say, I mean Strong was an interesting one
- 12:10Speaker 1: in camp just in terms of his body type. I mean,
- 12:12Speaker 1: I think James White kind of that traditional five ten
- 12:14Speaker 1: one ninety shifty, little pass catching back more like what
- 12:18Speaker 1: we're used to um. But you know, I think Strong
- 12:21Speaker 1: a little bit longer, a little leaner, a little bit
- 12:24Speaker 1: more of that breakaway speed um. Definitely that little, you know,
- 12:28Speaker 1: shifty in space. It seems like he's more of a
- 12:30Speaker 1: guy that that's not going to make a little stutter
- 12:32Speaker 1: step make you miss. He's gonna just you know, beat
- 12:34Speaker 1: you with speed to the edge. And I'd like to
- 12:35Speaker 1: watch him a little bit just in terms of his
- 12:38Speaker 1: his skill set, because he didn't have a tremendous amount
- 12:41Speaker 1: of production as a receiver in college and talking to
- 12:44Speaker 1: his running backs coach, so he sort of took some
- 12:46Speaker 1: responsibility for that. He said they felt like they needed
- 12:49Speaker 1: to in retrospect that you know, they needed to do
- 12:52Speaker 1: a little bit more to get the ball to him
- 12:53Speaker 1: in space as a receiver, and they didn't. He felt
- 12:56Speaker 1: like he had that in him we'll see if it
- 12:58Speaker 1: was more as a poe too, more of that as
- 13:01Speaker 1: opposed to they didn't really feel like that was his strength,
- 13:04Speaker 1: and we just saw of course almost said Jason mccordy,
- 13:06Speaker 1: I was watching too much Good Morning Football yesterday. I
- 13:09Speaker 1: was getting confused there for a minute. But Devin mccordy, uh, back,
- 13:12Speaker 1: for gosh, what is this now his eleventh or twelfth season.
- 13:15Speaker 1: I mean, the elder statesman on the back end and
- 13:17Speaker 1: part of a you know, of a deep safety group
- 13:19Speaker 1: that I think everybody's wondering, how does that all shake out?
- 13:22Speaker 1: You bring back your top three guys with mccordy, Phillips,
- 13:25Speaker 1: Kyle Dugger, You bring in Jibril Peppers, who is still
- 13:28Speaker 1: at this time on on pup. But uh, you got
- 13:31Speaker 1: a lot of safeties and Josh Bledsoe. I know, I
- 13:33Speaker 1: know that name. I know you like that named Paul,
- 13:35Speaker 1: But Josh Bledsoe was kind of in the mix too.
- 13:37Speaker 1: It was some of the stuff at minicamp as well,
- 13:39Speaker 1: a lot of kind of pieces to play with at
- 13:41Speaker 1: safety here and of course around Devin mccordy. That the
- 13:43Speaker 1: old vet and more importantly the boss man walking out
- 13:47Speaker 1: so that mister Kraft, So what season is this? I
- 13:50Speaker 1: can't do matt that quick on my head, but I mean,
- 13:52Speaker 1: what ninety three. I mean it's four ninety four, so
- 13:55Speaker 1: we're we're we're closing. I was born, Go away you.
- 14:02Speaker 1: That's enough fun of you, oh man. And I think
- 14:05Speaker 1: another thing just to point out you might be noticing,
- 14:07Speaker 1: and you see it right there with eighty seven Train
- 14:09Speaker 1: Nixon walking by the screen and uh there as well.
- 14:12Speaker 1: I think that's Devin ASIASI with kind of the new
- 14:14Speaker 1: helmet coverings that these some of these guys are wearing
- 14:17Speaker 1: part of some of the concussion protocol stuff. I mean,
- 14:20Speaker 1: I don't think it's mandatory. You see some guys not
- 14:22Speaker 1: wearing them, but I've seen it around the league here
- 14:24Speaker 1: as training camps have gotten going. Um, guys just I
- 14:27Speaker 1: guess taken a little bit of an extra precaution. There's
- 14:29Speaker 1: there's not gonna be any hitting today. But you're seeing
- 14:31Speaker 1: some of these guys with with some of those big
- 14:34Speaker 1: foamy domes on top of their head, and well, there
- 14:36Speaker 1: we go. That that says it all. Matthew Slater, Robert Kraft,
- 14:39Speaker 1: and Bill Belichick right there. So getting ready as as
- 14:43Speaker 1: we gear up here to get things going with looks
- 14:45Speaker 1: like some stretching. We're not even jumping into any walk
- 14:48Speaker 1: through stuff. It'll just be right into stretching. So we'll
- 14:50Speaker 1: start to get some look on the closure, looks on
- 14:52Speaker 1: the field hopefully. Yeah. You know, it's always a slow
- 14:59Speaker 1: time when you sort of it's like, hurry up, let's
- 15:02Speaker 1: get training camp started, and it's kind of it's it
- 15:04Speaker 1: just completely grinds to a halt because we still got
- 15:08Speaker 1: to wait another at least three day. I think Saturday.
- 15:10Speaker 1: You might see some equipment, some pads, but you kind
- 15:14Speaker 1: of want to just sort of see all these things.
- 15:16Speaker 1: You feel like you went through the spring and you
- 15:18Speaker 1: got three or four looks at them in the spring
- 15:20Speaker 1: like this, and really this is just a continuation of that. Yeah,
- 15:23Speaker 1: And unfortunately I think we heard yeah, I think today
- 15:27Speaker 1: it might it might not be until next week. Now
- 15:28Speaker 1: it's just hearing Monday. Yeah, so we'll see, you know,
- 15:33Speaker 1: but it's not like it used to be. But here
- 15:35Speaker 1: we are getting stretched out, and I mean, as Bill
- 15:38Speaker 1: said yesterday, it's a little bit of a continuation of
- 15:40Speaker 1: mini camp, kind of brushing up, getting everybody on the
- 15:42Speaker 1: same page. And it seems like the competitive parts will really,
- 15:45Speaker 1: you know, start to pick up next week, but who
- 15:48Speaker 1: knows what the weather will be like. Now for today,
- 15:50Speaker 1: it's I mean a perfect day. Nice crowd, still still
- 15:53Speaker 1: a few spots to sit if you were coming in
- 15:55Speaker 1: a little bit late, but food, refreshments, and I think
- 15:58Speaker 1: the biggest it's just a humidity. He's gone, that's that's yeah,
- 16:01Speaker 1: it's it's a perfect day. I mean, aside from the
- 16:03Speaker 1: fact they're in shorts and t shirts, it is I mean,
- 16:05Speaker 1: in terms of viewing, it's a beautiful day to be out.
- 16:08Speaker 1: It's uh, it's like, like Mike said, no humidity at all,
- 16:12Speaker 1: really nice breeze, a lot of sun. Perfect. I talked
- 16:16Speaker 1: to a father and son this morning who were first
- 16:19Speaker 1: in line over at that gate, and they got here
- 16:22Speaker 1: at eleven thirty last night, slept in a twenty four
- 16:25Speaker 1: duncan parking lot and they're only coming from Wooster. I'm
- 16:30Speaker 1: gonna be nice. They could have left right now, only
- 16:34Speaker 1: good seats still available. Well, hey, people are passionate and
- 16:39Speaker 1: we're not gonna faull to that, but you're just excited
- 16:41Speaker 1: to be back. It's certainly one of the best tickets
- 16:43Speaker 1: in town in terms of if you're a fan, you
- 16:45Speaker 1: want to get some autographs, you don't want to have to,
- 16:48Speaker 1: you know, spend them a month's rent on getting to
- 16:50Speaker 1: the game. It's it's a great opportunity to get an
- 16:52Speaker 1: up close look at at the Patriots, and you get
- 16:55Speaker 1: a look now at old Nick Folk, who's back for
- 16:57Speaker 1: another go round a kicker. And of course there's ten Born,
- 17:01Speaker 1: another guy. Kind of a breakout season for him a
- 17:03Speaker 1: little bit last year. And Paul we talked about some
- 17:05Speaker 1: of the you know, last year's free agents that were
- 17:08Speaker 1: up and down. I mean, I think Bourne was kind
- 17:09Speaker 1: of one that maybe didn't burst onto the scene right
- 17:12Speaker 1: out of the gate, but kind of slowly stacked success,
- 17:15Speaker 1: kind of got better as the season went along, and
- 17:18Speaker 1: you know, had certainly some of the most impressive and
- 17:20Speaker 1: explosive plays last year started with that you know, big
- 17:23Speaker 1: touchdown against Dallas and the and the and the contested
- 17:26Speaker 1: touchdown up the scene against Cleveland to two of the
- 17:28Speaker 1: best plays from last year, best best catches, best touchdowns
- 17:31Speaker 1: for the whole season that I thought he consistently improved.
- 17:34Speaker 1: You know, his production showed that. And I think you
- 17:37Speaker 1: had made a comment a couple of weeks ago that
- 17:39Speaker 1: he didn't necessarily think the production was really commensurate with
- 17:43Speaker 1: like the consistency, but you know, he had he had
- 17:46Speaker 1: a handful of really big plays that sort of patted
- 17:49Speaker 1: the numbers a little bit. But I do think he
- 17:51Speaker 1: consistently improved as the year went on, and toward the end,
- 17:55Speaker 1: I thought he was as trusted as as Henry and
- 17:58Speaker 1: Meyers for for mac Jones, and that's why he was
- 18:01Speaker 1: the pick when we talked about who do you think
- 18:03Speaker 1: we'll emerge? That was my pick. It's the number one
- 18:05Speaker 1: guy and not for nothing lifestyle reporter coming in, but like,
- 18:08Speaker 1: let's do it. I couldn't get rid of Kendrick this summer.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Like he was just always around, always telling Donna from
- 18:14Speaker 1: Community Relations, what events can you put me on? I
- 18:17Speaker 1: want to be in this community. I want to be
- 18:19Speaker 1: giving back. I think he's very motivated and conversations with
- 18:23Speaker 1: his agents to try to be in contention for that
- 18:25Speaker 1: Walter Payton Awards. So it's just it's stuff you love
- 18:28Speaker 1: to see. It. Always got a smile on his face
- 18:30Speaker 1: and as you said, just involved in everything, and yeah,
- 18:34Speaker 1: it's it was. It was a nice audition and certainly
- 18:36Speaker 1: a guy that they're gonna you know, have to lean
- 18:38Speaker 1: on and somebody that i'd like to see, you know,
- 18:40Speaker 1: take even another step. We got we got Hardy gonna
- 18:49Speaker 1: visit ninety five. The sports Hub is invading our our areas.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Don't know if they took a viewing spot. Now they
- 18:57Speaker 1: got to come over and harasses while we're running in.
- 19:00Speaker 1: It's great, Stig get here, it's great. That's good. We
- 19:03Speaker 1: don't want to give away any of our information to
- 19:06Speaker 1: these guys. Are are insightful insight and analysis that that
- 19:09Speaker 1: we have with our our imprecedented access to the team. Yes,
- 19:14Speaker 1: unprecedented accents. But it's fart and it seems like geez,
- 19:22Speaker 1: a large majority of the guys are wearing the are
- 19:25Speaker 1: wearing those helmet pads. Maybe just to get used to
- 19:27Speaker 1: him before before the hits hits start happening next week.
- 19:30Speaker 1: But yeah, that's way out of my range. I can't
- 19:33Speaker 1: tell that. I'm trying to look on the monitor and
- 19:35Speaker 1: I still can't really here, we got you can buy
- 19:38Speaker 1: my binoculars, the bins, the big binos. I'll take it.
- 19:45Speaker 1: I still can't tell. Oh that's one. Oh I see
- 19:47Speaker 1: a couple, Yeah, there you go. Wow, party party already
- 19:52Speaker 1: in mid season four, complaining about the lack of breaks.
- 19:54Speaker 1: I know, I thought he was coming over here trying
- 19:55Speaker 1: to drop a call on me. Uh, we haven't. We
- 19:58Speaker 1: haven't tried that, but I would love to hear from you. Guys.
- 20:00Speaker 1: You want to call in something, you want us to
- 20:01Speaker 1: watch for give us a call. Five is a good
- 20:04Speaker 1: look at the caps there, Mike, Yeah, I see you asking.
- 20:08Speaker 1: You said what we've seen. Yeah, there you go, shut up, Paul.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Look at they're all wearing him, and you will. I
- 20:13Speaker 1: guess we're catching James White right there, you know, not
- 20:15Speaker 1: in pads, but but is walking through the stretching. So
- 20:18Speaker 1: that's not not not something that you know, you can
- 20:21Speaker 1: necessarily dismiss. I think it's uh, you know, just a
- 20:23Speaker 1: nice little glimpse that he is walking through things. I
- 20:25Speaker 1: know there were some reports, Paul that he was walking
- 20:28Speaker 1: with a limp. I don't know. Right now, it seems
- 20:30Speaker 1: like he's a he's okay out there, even stretching. Granted,
- 20:32Speaker 1: not not in any pads or anything, but still a
- 20:34Speaker 1: lot of hit mobility stuff going on down there, swinging
- 20:37Speaker 1: his legs and lift his leg up right wing of
- 20:40Speaker 1: the right leg and we're off. I mean when I
- 20:42Speaker 1: talked to him earlier in the off season. He was
- 20:44Speaker 1: selling me like initially he couldn't even bend down to
- 20:47Speaker 1: tie his shoes. He was like, how am I even
- 20:48Speaker 1: gonna walk again? Never mind do what he's doing out
- 20:51Speaker 1: there right now so ibelievable. Well, I think he's one
- 20:54Speaker 1: of those guys that, even if he can't be on
- 20:57Speaker 1: the field contributing, you know, having him behind the scenes.
- 21:00Speaker 1: I mean when he went down last year, just the
- 21:02Speaker 1: outpouring of support from the other guys in his room,
- 21:05Speaker 1: JJ Taylor, Demian Harris, Yeah, Ramandre, you know what what
- 21:08Speaker 1: what James White means to that running back room. Um,
- 21:12Speaker 1: he's a huge leader. I mean, he's made some of
- 21:13Speaker 1: the biggest plays and in Patriots Super Bowl history, and
- 21:16Speaker 1: you know, he's certainly one of those remaining guys that
- 21:19Speaker 1: that knows what it takes to to get to the
- 21:20Speaker 1: top of the mountain and was trying to blast through
- 21:24Speaker 1: our attendants here. Par I mean, I you know, I
- 21:25Speaker 1: don't you are doing our best. I think I can't
- 21:27Speaker 1: help you. I don't. I don't have a roster. I'm
- 21:29Speaker 1: wolf really unprepared, but I know nobody stuck up on
- 21:33Speaker 1: you living that main in Hunt on two wheels. But
- 21:40Speaker 1: that's what you gotta do this this time of year.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Squeeze every last moment of beach and beer time you can. Yeah,
- 21:46Speaker 1: I had. I had more than my share time. I'm
- 21:49Speaker 1: not gonna lie. That's what it's all about. So I
- 21:52Speaker 1: think I'm here, broken my record of thirty pack in
- 21:54Speaker 1: three days. And I got another foil pack yesterday, and
- 22:00Speaker 1: I was going to give the rest to somebody else.
- 22:01Speaker 1: There was no rest. I made a Moscow mule the
- 22:04Speaker 1: other night and I was like, wow, drinking on a weekday.
- 22:06Speaker 1: But whatever, Like training camp, I'm not going to be
- 22:08Speaker 1: able to do this. So you're making me feel a
- 22:09Speaker 1: little better. You know, we've had a lot of it
- 22:12Speaker 1: was tough lately about the high noons. I know, tease.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Last night I did the Black Cherry High Noon. I
- 22:18Speaker 1: think that might have shot to the top of my
- 22:19Speaker 1: High News power rankings. As much as I like the peaches,
- 22:22Speaker 1: but that's how I was last night. We were we
- 22:24Speaker 1: were getting ready to dinner. I'm like, man, we got
- 22:25Speaker 1: a bunch of high noons. I love high noons do.
- 22:28Speaker 1: I introduced my father to them recently, and he can't
- 22:30Speaker 1: get enough. Did you have a little umbrella on that too.
- 22:34Speaker 1: I did. It was very very nice, a little like
- 22:36Speaker 1: garnish fruit. Oh yeah, my lay on, Yeah it was.
- 22:40Speaker 1: It was nice. But yeah, well we'll we'll try to
- 22:42Speaker 1: get a full full at tendance report. But I would
- 22:44Speaker 1: say for the most part, it seems like just now
- 22:46Speaker 1: it looks like there's a lot of guys here. Yeah,
- 22:47Speaker 1: it looks like a lot probably close to ninety somewhere
- 22:49Speaker 1: between eighty and ninety would I would, I would venture
- 22:51Speaker 1: a guest. But and as you pointed out, you know
- 22:53Speaker 1: they had sort of gotten together to do their little
- 22:56Speaker 1: warm ups and you know, the calisthenics before practice, before
- 23:00Speaker 1: like doing a walk through. Now you're sort of seeing
- 23:02Speaker 1: a little of that walk through stuff, and you know,
- 23:05Speaker 1: the separation a little bit with the offense and defense
- 23:07Speaker 1: going over some some of their pre practice routines. Well,
- 23:11Speaker 1: it's it's sure different, Paul. And I'm sure than the
- 23:13Speaker 1: early days when you guys were down at Bryant. What
- 23:16Speaker 1: was the first day of practice, like opening training camp
- 23:19Speaker 1: at Bryant back in the day. I mean, was that
- 23:21Speaker 1: just right into full pad double sessions. Everybody's just smashing
- 23:24Speaker 1: foot is football? Uh? Yeah, they and not only they
- 23:29Speaker 1: would be in full pads, but they would have two
- 23:30Speaker 1: practices and not both in pads. One would be like
- 23:33Speaker 1: this and one would be in pads. But you know,
- 23:36Speaker 1: for the first several days they would practice twice a
- 23:38Speaker 1: day and be like nine to eleven, three to five
- 23:41Speaker 1: something like that, maybe two to four. Um. So yeah,
- 23:45Speaker 1: it's it's a lot different, and you know, frankly, it's
- 23:48Speaker 1: a lot better, and not just because we don't have
- 23:50Speaker 1: to you know, be here for the entirety of the day,
- 23:52Speaker 1: but for the for the players, I mean, it has
- 23:54Speaker 1: to be healthier. I mean, obviously it was the head
- 23:57Speaker 1: injuries is so important and this top of mind for everybody,
- 24:01Speaker 1: but just the overall body. Yeah, body injuries in general.
- 24:05Speaker 1: It's really hard to just be so static and then
- 24:07Speaker 1: that summer vacation mode and then full force pads running
- 24:11Speaker 1: into each other. It's that's torn ligament's waiting to happen, right,
- 24:14Speaker 1: and then it's you know, and it's you know, back
- 24:16Speaker 1: to those like Bill tell you. I mean when when
- 24:19Speaker 1: he broke into the league, it was like eight ten weeks.
- 24:22Speaker 1: You know, it'd be like July fourth, they would they
- 24:24Speaker 1: would get together. Then they would have like six weeks
- 24:26Speaker 1: or practice six weeks or preseason games and then getting
- 24:29Speaker 1: you know, by the time you play in the regular season,
- 24:31Speaker 1: you feel like you've already played an entire year. You know,
- 24:34Speaker 1: like high schools do a lot of that stuff still now,
- 24:36Speaker 1: but it's like, you know, four days, five days. You know,
- 24:39Speaker 1: you just sort of like you drill all the reps
- 24:41Speaker 1: and you get the plays down and whatnot. But this is,
- 24:45Speaker 1: you know, what they used to do back in the
- 24:46Speaker 1: day from a physical standpoint. You know, you think about
- 24:49Speaker 1: it and you're like, I mean that's lunacy. I mean
- 24:52Speaker 1: you talk about high school. I mean I remember my
- 24:54Speaker 1: first high school double sessions and that was the first
- 24:57Speaker 1: time I was introduced introduced to the howderd gatorade that
- 25:00Speaker 1: they make, that the trainers make themselves, which has just
- 25:03Speaker 1: got a special something about it, and I'm not quite
- 25:06Speaker 1: mixed right. Yeah, it's like a little bit too much.
- 25:07Speaker 1: It's almost too sweet, but it's delicious. And I remember
- 25:10Speaker 1: after my first practice just sucking that gatorade down and
- 25:14Speaker 1: being like, we have to go back out there and
- 25:16Speaker 1: do it again. It's not what I was used to
- 25:20Speaker 1: for sure, And I mean it's just the heat and everything.
- 25:22Speaker 1: It's uh it pushes you even. I mean, even this
- 25:24Speaker 1: stuff I think out there is as light as it is,
- 25:26Speaker 1: it's still I think it's a little bit a little
- 25:28Speaker 1: bit challenging, especially when the heat ramps up a little bit. Well,
- 25:30Speaker 1: Devin mccordy said it best yesterday, like, no one's excited
- 25:33Speaker 1: for training camp. If they say that, they're lying to you.
- 25:36Speaker 1: I know it's always such a build up. But you know,
- 25:38Speaker 1: and here we are, and and there's a guy, you know,
- 25:40Speaker 1: we're talking about second year guys that need to step up.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Mike just so as excited for everything at that time.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Well he's not out there running around. Hey, I know
- 25:47Speaker 1: that is true. I would not be excited for that.
- 25:48Speaker 1: But but john who Smith here he is was around
- 25:51Speaker 1: all spring. I had a couple nice catches in mini camp.
- 25:54Speaker 1: We were talking about, you know, those free agents that
- 25:56Speaker 1: that maybe we need a little bit more out of
- 25:57Speaker 1: them this year. He seems fully in fall. I know
- 26:00Speaker 1: last year wasn't able to be here early on, had
- 26:02Speaker 1: a kid, had some injuries. It just kind of seemed
- 26:04Speaker 1: to stunt his growth. Uh. You know, Paul, what do
- 26:06Speaker 1: you think with Johnny? Is this is this somebody that
- 26:09Speaker 1: that you think can can get to the level you're
- 26:11Speaker 1: kind of hoping. I mean, as you've pointed out many times,
- 26:13Speaker 1: it wasn't like he fell off a cliff in terms
- 26:15Speaker 1: of what his general promssion. I think I think he's
- 26:18Speaker 1: a number two tight end and I think Hunter Henry
- 26:21Speaker 1: is clearly number one. I think he's the number two
- 26:23Speaker 1: tight end. I don't think if you look at him
- 26:25Speaker 1: that if I understand how stupid this sounds, you can't
- 26:29Speaker 1: help but take the salaries that these guys, the contracts
- 26:32Speaker 1: these guys were given, and say, wow, we're gonna get this. Well,
- 26:36Speaker 1: they probably got contracts that weren't really commensurate with what
- 26:39Speaker 1: they have done. But if you eliminate that and you
- 26:42Speaker 1: just look at what they did on the field, I
- 26:43Speaker 1: think Henry was probably pretty solid and Smith was a
- 26:47Speaker 1: little disappointing, but not like a disaster. It wasn't like
- 26:49Speaker 1: he couldn't get out on the field and play at all. Um, Yeah,
- 26:53Speaker 1: he was disappointing. He didn't produce very much, if at all,
- 26:56Speaker 1: won the passing game, I know, throughout the year. But
- 26:58Speaker 1: I do think he'll be a little bit better this year.
- 27:00Speaker 1: But I think he's a number two guy. Yeah, Yeah,
- 27:02Speaker 1: I think I was just disappointed. I think I had
- 27:04Speaker 1: high hopes for him with the run after catch. You
- 27:07Speaker 1: weren't alone. Yeah, a lot of people were so bullish
- 27:10Speaker 1: on him coming out of training camp last year, and
- 27:13Speaker 1: I just wondered why everybody was like expecting a you know,
- 27:16Speaker 1: an ady catch season from a guy who caught forty one. Yeah. Money, Yeah,
- 27:20Speaker 1: you just see that price sag and you expect you
- 27:22Speaker 1: think it's your money. And yeah, that's a good point.
- 27:26Speaker 1: That's why I said, I know, it sounds silly to
- 27:28Speaker 1: just sort of put the contracts to the side. They
- 27:30Speaker 1: gave two tight ends, the two largest free agent contracts
- 27:34Speaker 1: for tight ends in NFL history, you know, in terms
- 27:36Speaker 1: of guaranteed money, and especially with that, people were here. Yeah,
- 27:45Speaker 1: so who we miss and deuce anyone? So far? I
- 27:48Speaker 1: pretty much there's there's nobody that's that stuck me. But
- 27:52Speaker 1: and I we're gonna look right now here at Damien Harris.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Of course during a contract year, kind of a breakout
- 27:56Speaker 1: season last year, a couple of big runs, I mean,
- 28:00Speaker 1: really an energy guy, you know, for the team. But
- 28:02Speaker 1: the backfield is just it's been reinforced. I mean, it's
- 28:06Speaker 1: we talked about strong Kevin Harris also drafted. You've got
- 28:09Speaker 1: Romondre Stevenson back. I mean, Ramondre I think is a
- 28:11Speaker 1: guy too that a lot of people are looking as
- 28:13Speaker 1: a breakout candidate. But Harris kind of had his breakout
- 28:16Speaker 1: year last year. You know what, do you think, Paul
- 28:19Speaker 1: Alex is he the one a guy still in this
- 28:22Speaker 1: offense or do you think it's gonna be kind of
- 28:24Speaker 1: an open competition to see how those roles are kind
- 28:27Speaker 1: of divided up and turn. You know, also with the
- 28:29Speaker 1: factor in James White's health as well. Uh, you're Damien Harris.
- 28:32Speaker 1: It's a big year for him, contract year. He's got
- 28:35Speaker 1: to bring it. Yeah, And I do think both of
- 28:38Speaker 1: those guys, and you say this a lot, Mike, and
- 28:40Speaker 1: I don't. Yeah, I don't know if there'll be a
- 28:41Speaker 1: running back that the Pagets will have that will get
- 28:43Speaker 1: the kind of opportunities to be sort of top of
- 28:46Speaker 1: the league in that kind of production. I do think
- 28:48Speaker 1: they'll both split time, and I think they'll be games
- 28:49Speaker 1: where would be more of the Stevenson game than a
- 28:52Speaker 1: Harris game. Yeah, going by looks sometimes you get a
- 28:56Speaker 1: you know, a hot hand, you stick with it. Whatever.
- 28:58Speaker 1: I like Stevenson a little a little more. I think
- 29:00Speaker 1: he has more explosiveness and more power. But I mean
- 29:03Speaker 1: I think Harris is excellent. I think he had a
- 29:05Speaker 1: he had an excellent year last year. Fifteen touchdowns. I mean,
- 29:08Speaker 1: I'm not a big generally a big like one yard
- 29:10Speaker 1: touchdown run kind of guy, like big deal someone's going
- 29:12Speaker 1: to get but fifteen is a lot of touchdowns. So
- 29:14Speaker 1: you can't just ignore that either. And that's this is
- 29:18Speaker 1: probably the part that the offensive lineman don't particularly love,
- 29:21Speaker 1: the having a love that sled around a little bit.
- 29:24Speaker 1: So I know that a lot of people are really
- 29:26Speaker 1: interested in every movement with the offensive coaches. So in
- 29:30Speaker 1: the pre pre portion that we just watched, you know,
- 29:32Speaker 1: it was Matt Patricia was with Matt Jones running plays
- 29:35Speaker 1: toward the far side, while Joe Judge was with um
- 29:40Speaker 1: Bailey Zappy and Brian Hoyer on the other side. Um,
- 29:43Speaker 1: you know, I'm not telling you to read anything into
- 29:45Speaker 1: what that means. I'm just pointing it out as as
- 29:47Speaker 1: a fact. No, no editorialization there. Observation. Yeah, now we'll
- 29:53Speaker 1: have the h the Matt Tracker and the Joe Judge
- 29:58Speaker 1: Tracker wives every ten minute, so they're with but I
- 30:01Speaker 1: mean we talked about a little bit, Yes, defensive coordinator
- 30:04Speaker 1: on the tam and and I think that you know, look,
- 30:06Speaker 1: I think it all comes down to Bill Belichick is
- 30:08Speaker 1: the head coach. But you know, it's just how many
- 30:11Speaker 1: voices are in Mac Jones is ear, you know, and
- 30:13Speaker 1: and and is there Uh. I know. The reason that
- 30:15Speaker 1: was always given that that the Patriots keeps small staffs
- 30:18Speaker 1: was just you know, for the message not to get muddled.
- 30:20Speaker 1: And I'm talking about are now right when you talk
- 30:25Speaker 1: about the offensive position? You know, it's is it going
- 30:28Speaker 1: to be Joe Judge in his ear? And then Matt
- 30:30Speaker 1: Patricia comes in and calls the plays like you know,
- 30:32Speaker 1: I think, And that's just goes back to the thing
- 30:34Speaker 1: that you know, we think we led the show off with,
- 30:35Speaker 1: which is the importance to Mac Jones for this team
- 30:38Speaker 1: and his development and nurturing him in the best way possible.
- 30:41Speaker 1: And you know, I feel great that he's getting tutored
- 30:42Speaker 1: by Bill Belichick. But I think it's it's okay to
- 30:45Speaker 1: have some questions and some concerns about, you know, are
- 30:47Speaker 1: there too many cooks in the kitchen? Does he know
- 30:49Speaker 1: exactly what he's doing? And how they want to attack
- 30:52Speaker 1: this season. Um, hopefully it gets it gets figured out here.
- 30:55Speaker 1: I'm sure that the mechanics of how it all works
- 30:58Speaker 1: will become clear to why. But I still think it's
- 31:01Speaker 1: fair to wonder if it's the best approach to take it,
- 31:03Speaker 1: if it's going to produce the best results and and
- 31:05Speaker 1: and help Mac get to that next level. Yeah, yeah,
- 31:09Speaker 1: I mean it's a great point. And you know, you
- 31:11Speaker 1: would you would ask me off the top what I
- 31:13Speaker 1: was looking for from Mac Jones and you know, in
- 31:16Speaker 1: camp and in general in year two. And I guess
- 31:18Speaker 1: that's a part of it too, Like can he take
- 31:20Speaker 1: ownership of the offense? It seems like, you know, some
- 31:22Speaker 1: of the reports that we've read from outside talking about
- 31:25Speaker 1: maybe giving him a little bit more responsibility and doing
- 31:28Speaker 1: a little bit more of what he wants as opposed
- 31:30Speaker 1: to running the old Patriots offense that's been running around here,
- 31:35Speaker 1: you know for the last twenty plus years. Um, you know,
- 31:38Speaker 1: with Josh McDaniel's leaving, it gave you an opportunity to say,
- 31:41Speaker 1: everybody's kind of on equal footing in terms of the
- 31:44Speaker 1: knowledge of the offense, So why not reboot it a
- 31:46Speaker 1: little bit and do some different things and I think
- 31:48Speaker 1: we will see some of that. I just don't know,
- 31:51Speaker 1: you know, specifically what it will all entail. Yeah, how
- 31:53Speaker 1: how how do you how do you know what a
- 31:55Speaker 1: scheme change looks like. That's especially when you're talking about
- 31:59Speaker 1: training camp practices. I mean, we get into games, you
- 32:02Speaker 1: can see what they're gonna be doing. But you know,
- 32:04Speaker 1: right now, it's it's it's hard to look at some
- 32:06Speaker 1: individual drills or you know, small you know, watching some
- 32:09Speaker 1: coverage stuff going on on the other side. I mean,
- 32:11Speaker 1: it's you know, it's it's it's it's going to be
- 32:13Speaker 1: hard to discern here for the first few practices exactly
- 32:16Speaker 1: how things are coming together. But of course, once you
- 32:19Speaker 1: get to join practices with the Panthers, join practices with
- 32:22Speaker 1: the Raiders, I think you have a pretty good sense of, uh,
- 32:24Speaker 1: you know who the personnel is at least and who
- 32:27Speaker 1: they're going to lean on, uh in the big moments,
- 32:29Speaker 1: and you know who's in the mix to really compete
- 32:31Speaker 1: for starting jobs. And you know, not on the lower
- 32:33Speaker 1: end of the roster, the bubble, those guys that that
- 32:36Speaker 1: are you know, maybe facing some uphill climbs. But but
- 32:39Speaker 1: still I think there's opportunities on this team, especially on
- 32:41Speaker 1: the defensive side of the ball, that that maybe weren't there.
- 32:44Speaker 1: I mean, I look at that linebacker competition and it
- 32:47Speaker 1: seems pretty open with guys they've been here for a
- 32:49Speaker 1: few years, uh, Josh Hutcha, Ronnie Perkins, Anthony Jennings, uh,
- 32:54Speaker 1: you know, and even some of the some of the
- 32:56Speaker 1: you know, new guys, Mack Wilson, Ray Kwa McMillan. How
- 32:59Speaker 1: do things play out on that second level. I think
- 33:01Speaker 1: jobs are there for the taking, and I think that
- 33:02Speaker 1: they like that, even though there's you know, you'd love
- 33:04Speaker 1: to have some superstars in those positions, but I also
- 33:07Speaker 1: think they like having competition and guys who are gonna
- 33:10Speaker 1: be able to push themselves. We'll see how it looks here,
- 33:12Speaker 1: but it's already they're you know, getting into it. Yeah,
- 33:14Speaker 1: I mean, I think the linebacker situation is definitely one
- 33:17Speaker 1: to watch. And you know, you talked about some guys
- 33:21Speaker 1: maybe you know, the roster bubble kind of battles, which
- 33:24Speaker 1: I think a lot of fans are interested in that,
- 33:26Speaker 1: you know, even though it doesn't really end up in
- 33:28Speaker 1: the long run being all that important. But like I'm
- 33:31Speaker 1: just watching some of the tight end stuff. You got
- 33:32Speaker 1: Dalton Keene and Devin ASIASI out there. You know, two
- 33:35Speaker 1: guys that came in a few years ago, and neither
- 33:38Speaker 1: one of them is really especially Keene hasn't really even
- 33:41Speaker 1: been able to get on the field. But neither one
- 33:44Speaker 1: of them has made a mark yet. You know, there's
- 33:45Speaker 1: a third tight end spot open, you know, who knows,
- 33:47Speaker 1: maybe a fourth. I don't know exactly how it's going
- 33:50Speaker 1: to play out, but with no true fullback, you know,
- 33:53Speaker 1: to take a rosha spot like in the last couple
- 33:55Speaker 1: of years, maybe there's room for both of those guys
- 33:57Speaker 1: on the active fifty three man roster. Well, Paul, I'm
- 34:01Speaker 1: getting close. I'm getting close here. I mean, I think
- 34:03Speaker 1: I've seen just about I think I've seen just about everybody. Um,
- 34:07Speaker 1: you know great vision that's not on NFI and not
- 34:11Speaker 1: on PUP. So I I believe how many guys are
- 34:14Speaker 1: on lists at this point. We got four on PUP. Yeah,
- 34:16Speaker 1: we got four on PUP and and so, I mean,
- 34:19Speaker 1: there was some recent news yesterday of um Miles Bryant
- 34:23Speaker 1: moving the NFI list non football injury uh, and then
- 34:26Speaker 1: Jake Bailey punter as well. Uh non football illness Uh. Uh.
- 34:31Speaker 1: It's not injury. It's an illness. They go, um, so,
- 34:34Speaker 1: but I always think that's funny, Like, what what illness
- 34:36Speaker 1: would be football? Well, he's football, so he has to flue.
- 34:41Speaker 1: That's an excellent point, pie. I mean, that's non foot,
- 34:43Speaker 1: non football illness. They don't call him the best in
- 34:46Speaker 1: the business for an area it's a football I don't
- 34:49Speaker 1: want you to get panicked. It wasn't football related, it
- 34:53Speaker 1: was it was non football illness. Well, I'll tell you
- 34:55Speaker 1: I got football fever right now myself here first day
- 34:57Speaker 1: at training camp. I don't know if that qualifies. I
- 34:58Speaker 1: got the fever. The only prescription pads to come on
- 35:03Speaker 1: and something actually happens, there's more context. But otherwise, I mean,
- 35:10Speaker 1: I think generally that the health is pretty good for
- 35:12Speaker 1: the team here as you start camp, and I think
- 35:14Speaker 1: that that's uh, you know, that's always the wild card.
- 35:16Speaker 1: You spend all year talking about these guys and you know, oh,
- 35:19Speaker 1: what are they gonna do with player X? And then
- 35:21Speaker 1: day three of camp, player X goes down and everything
- 35:25Speaker 1: you talked about. I mean, and that was ray Qua
- 35:27Speaker 1: McMillon last year. That was you know, he's writing the
- 35:29Speaker 1: mix with these guys, and you know he went down.
- 35:32Speaker 1: It was almost like, I mean, I see it, I don't.
- 35:34Speaker 1: I don't even know if we were here when he
- 35:35Speaker 1: got hurt. I think we might have been traveling to Philly.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Perhaps I don't remember exactly, but that could be. It
- 35:40Speaker 1: was kind of it was kind of like one of
- 35:43Speaker 1: those ones where he went off the field, didn't you know.
- 35:45Speaker 1: It didn't seem like anything like a torn acl right
- 35:47Speaker 1: right from the get go. But you just hate to
- 35:49Speaker 1: see those things. You know, how hard, how hard these
- 35:50Speaker 1: guys work all season, and then you know, you get
- 35:53Speaker 1: the camp and then it all gets goes sideways early
- 35:56Speaker 1: on and everything changes. So hopefully they can avoid those things,
- 36:00Speaker 1: and you know, the padded helmets and the light practices.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Hopefully we'll play into that as we as we're seeing
- 36:06Speaker 1: right on the padded helmets, good padded helmet talk. Yeah,
- 36:11Speaker 1: they are very noticeable among the receiving corps I've noticed,
- 36:15Speaker 1: which is kind of funny. We think those guys kept
- 36:17Speaker 1: the least amount of potential contact in a situation like this. Yeah,
- 36:21Speaker 1: so we're seeing it right now up close. There's Matt
- 36:23Speaker 1: Patricia working with the old line, and uh, you know,
- 36:26Speaker 1: Mac mac jones is here on our other on our
- 36:28Speaker 1: other field to our right working with the other quarterbacks
- 36:31Speaker 1: and Joe Judge and he's got a video on him.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Receivers doing some drills in the end zone, working on routes,
- 36:39Speaker 1: and we got down here. We've got some coverage going on, DBS,
- 36:43Speaker 1: cornerbacks working on some one on one stuff handling. Uh,
- 36:47Speaker 1: I guess you'd say handling two man bunches, bunch sets
- 36:50Speaker 1: from some of the safeties and dbs down there. So, uh,
- 36:54Speaker 1: this is what happens. All the groups kind of divide
- 36:56Speaker 1: up and work on their individual drills, and you know,
- 36:59Speaker 1: we've in the the real practices. You're kind of waiting
- 37:02Speaker 1: for for the team drills and the live situations and
- 37:06Speaker 1: the clock to come on and the signs always the
- 37:08Speaker 1: music comes on, and then you know you hear that
- 37:11Speaker 1: kick in and you know it's about to be an
- 37:13Speaker 1: interesting team period here as we're uh, and this will
- 37:18Speaker 1: probably mean day one. I wouldn't imagine they'll be out here,
- 37:21Speaker 1: you know, too too long. It's probably closer to ninety
- 37:25Speaker 1: minutes than yeah, been two hours, but you know, something
- 37:27Speaker 1: somewhere in that neighborhood. And again this is just sort
- 37:31Speaker 1: of for for Bill Beltichick. I think this is sort
- 37:34Speaker 1: of a refresher make sure that everybody's up to speed
- 37:36Speaker 1: on what they've done all spring, and make sure there's
- 37:39Speaker 1: this you know this At this point pretty much everything
- 37:42Speaker 1: is in, you know, in terms of installations, so now
- 37:44Speaker 1: it's just making sure everybody knows what they're doing. Well,
- 37:46Speaker 1: we're gonna be on video, wrapping up video here shortly.
- 37:50Speaker 1: I want to thank you guys for you know, sticking
- 37:51Speaker 1: with some video. We're gonna keep going on radio so
- 37:53Speaker 1: you can continue to listen. We got some emails building up.
- 37:56Speaker 1: We've got a couple of callers here coming in, so
- 37:58Speaker 1: still encourage you guys, send us some emails, let us
- 38:00Speaker 1: know where you're looking for. We'll get into those after
- 38:03Speaker 1: the video portion. But we will be back tomorrow, Thursday, Friday,
- 38:06Speaker 1: Saturday with live video again. So come on back and
- 38:09Speaker 1: if you have a chance, come on down. It's it's
- 38:11Speaker 1: an awesome time down here. Get in while the while
- 38:13Speaker 1: the weather's good. So we'll continue to uh relay what's
- 38:18Speaker 1: going on as we see. You know, Bill Belichick right
- 38:20Speaker 1: now we talk about the other coaches where they he's
- 38:22Speaker 1: down with the receivers kind of showing them walking them
- 38:24Speaker 1: through routes, you know, slow motion. I mean he just
- 38:27Speaker 1: kind of floats from place to place. I like this
- 38:31Speaker 1: little uh and you'll probably tell me, Mike that they
- 38:33Speaker 1: do this every practice. M But the quarterbacks are throwing
- 38:36Speaker 1: to the back corner of the you know, the back
- 38:38Speaker 1: pylon in the end zone, and they have the net,
- 38:41Speaker 1: you know, the accuracy net right in front of them,
- 38:43Speaker 1: so it sort of has to like it's almost like
- 38:45Speaker 1: up and over the layer of defense there. Yeah. Well,
- 38:48Speaker 1: I don't want to bring it up, but it's probably
- 38:49Speaker 1: gonna get a paragraph but that. But that Pro Bowl,
- 38:52Speaker 1: un fortunately saw Magam in great offseason for MAC. Had
- 38:55Speaker 1: a lot of fun at the Pro Bowl. Did the
- 38:56Speaker 1: gritty on an unnecessary on an unnecessary touch down around
- 39:00Speaker 1: which I got a kick out of. But unfortunately MATC
- 39:02Speaker 1: got got destroyed by Russell Wilson. In the past accords,
- 39:05Speaker 1: he was a little bit similar with but hey, that's
- 39:08Speaker 1: that's Russell Wilson. What are you gonna do? Uh? But yeah,
- 39:11Speaker 1: so Bill, uh? Where do Bill go? Now? I mean
- 39:15Speaker 1: he just he's kind of all over the place. He's
- 39:17Speaker 1: still with the offense over there, still in the middle,
- 39:20Speaker 1: and the uh in between the receivers and the tight ends. Yeah,
- 39:23Speaker 1: so this is uh so, yeah, we got receivers going through.
- 39:26Speaker 1: Jacobe Myers went through. Yeah, just a little. You can
- 39:29Speaker 1: see the ramp up, you know, it's it's individual position drills.
- 39:32Speaker 1: Now it's quarterbacks throwing to the positions, but still not
- 39:36Speaker 1: against uh you know, against air in a no defense,
- 39:40Speaker 1: you know. And eventually they'll work their way up a
- 39:42Speaker 1: little bit to to some uh seven on seven work
- 39:45Speaker 1: against a defense. Uh and then maybe you know, like
- 39:48Speaker 1: you said, you know, a full team period. We'll see. Yeah,
- 39:51Speaker 1: we'll see what they end up finishing up with today.
- 39:53Speaker 1: Well it's interesting. So it's so so Thornton went through.
- 39:56Speaker 1: I mean you can see if you can see he's
- 39:57Speaker 1: got risk. Use can see the risk. I can't see
- 40:00Speaker 1: the risk from here. Uh. But DeVante Parker you know, big,
- 40:04Speaker 1: big body. I mean it's wearing number one. Everybody Nick Hill,
- 40:08Speaker 1: Harry because he's big. I noticed when I was gone,
- 40:11Speaker 1: everybody was all gaga over the fact that he's wearing
- 40:13Speaker 1: number one. Okay, this this this is the stuff I
- 40:18Speaker 1: miss when I'm doing That's good. Well let's uh it's like,
- 40:24Speaker 1: why am I caring about this? Well, you know, I'm
- 40:26Speaker 1: getting a text from Mamora map. Why don't we take
- 40:28Speaker 1: Why don't we take a quick break here? Since we
- 40:29Speaker 1: just wrapped up video and uh, you know we're we've
- 40:32Speaker 1: been we've been tim wagging here as we ramp things up.
- 40:34Speaker 1: So we're gonna take a We'll take a quick break
- 40:36Speaker 1: and we'll get back. We'll get to your calls and
- 40:38Speaker 1: to the emails. Want to get into the game, get

- 43:54Speaker 1: towards drills. Here Matt Jones thrown at some of the
- 43:56Speaker 1: receivers on the right field defense, working on some coverage
- 44:00Speaker 1: on the left side. Let's let's go to the phones. Here.
- 44:02Speaker 1: We got Todd. He's been holding off for a few minutes. Todd,
- 44:05Speaker 1: North Carolina. What's going on? What do you what do
- 44:08Speaker 1: you think? What are you looking here for? From training camp? Hey, guys,
- 44:12Speaker 1: I enjoyed the cover so far, as kind of hoping
- 44:14Speaker 1: Evan was there because I had a couple of questions
- 44:16Speaker 1: for the young guys. But I'll wait until they're You
- 44:18Speaker 1: got both Evan and Alex on at the same time. Okay,
- 44:22Speaker 1: you can ask us too, so no, Actually, what I'm
- 44:26Speaker 1: want to know is, and I Evan would probably be
- 44:29Speaker 1: helpful with this too, but what's more important to open
- 44:31Speaker 1: up the short passing games for the Patriots. Is it
- 44:35Speaker 1: somebody to do the seem like gronkys too, or is
- 44:37Speaker 1: it somebody a threat on the outside, Like what is
- 44:39Speaker 1: more important to getting that game open? Because I think
- 44:42Speaker 1: that's really where mac is going to shine. And I
- 44:45Speaker 1: was kind of wondering where do you guys feel which
- 44:47Speaker 1: one of those is more important? Are they both equally important?
- 44:49Speaker 1: Or how do you do that? I mean, I think,
- 44:52Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know if there's specific things that
- 44:55Speaker 1: you need to open up. I mean, I think it's
- 44:57Speaker 1: getting it to the right play and knowing you know
- 44:59Speaker 1: what the defense is and you know overall and effective offense.
- 45:02Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think you can connect it to
- 45:04Speaker 1: you know, this opens up that. I mean I think
- 45:07Speaker 1: that you know the old adage of the run game,
- 45:10Speaker 1: to you gotta run to open up play action and
- 45:13Speaker 1: open the pass. I mean, I don't know. I think
- 45:15Speaker 1: those those things are a little bit cliche. And I
- 45:18Speaker 1: just think, you know, an overall good offense an effective
- 45:20Speaker 1: running game when you're able to run when they know
- 45:22Speaker 1: you gotta run and you're still able to execute um.
- 45:25Speaker 1: But you know, I don't think you can connect anything
- 45:27Speaker 1: for you know, the Brady offense was so effective with
- 45:30Speaker 1: that stuff, but I don't think you'd ever connected really
- 45:32Speaker 1: to something specific. But um, you know, overall, I think
- 45:36Speaker 1: it's just on Mac making the right calls, knowing which
- 45:38Speaker 1: guys are are going to be open and when, and uh,
- 45:41Speaker 1: you know, getting the ball out quick. That's that's what
- 45:43Speaker 1: he does. He's the reason I asked, I think, you know,
- 45:47Speaker 1: it seems like the Pats are going to try to
- 45:48Speaker 1: change the scheme a little bit because they're not gonna
- 45:50Speaker 1: have a fullback this year. So I thought maybe they would,
- 45:52Speaker 1: you know, go back to some of the years when
- 45:54Speaker 1: they did a lot of that short passing game that
- 45:56Speaker 1: was so effective. Well, I think some of the you
- 45:58Speaker 1: know what, what you know a people were talking about
- 46:00Speaker 1: in the in minicamp was that they were running a
- 46:03Speaker 1: lot of wide zone And I think wide zone is
- 46:04Speaker 1: kind of the the base foundation for you know, the
- 46:09Speaker 1: Mike Shanahan Kyle Shanahan offense that you know, you see
- 46:12Speaker 1: Sean mcvayh and you know in Green Bay and and
- 46:15Speaker 1: you know, that's kind of the core concept of it,
- 46:17Speaker 1: and everything kind of works off of that wide zone
- 46:19Speaker 1: and when teams start biting on the wide zone, and
- 46:22Speaker 1: you start with the bootlegs, and you start with the
- 46:25Speaker 1: misdirection Deebo Samuel famously you know, able to do a
- 46:29Speaker 1: number of different things off of that. Um So I
- 46:31Speaker 1: don't know. I think that's what we're going to be,
- 46:33Speaker 1: you know, looking for. Are they going to continue to
- 46:34Speaker 1: work a lot of wide zone and um, you know,
- 46:37Speaker 1: do we start to see some of more of those concepts.
- 46:40Speaker 1: I think it's possible. I think it's always been an
- 46:42Speaker 1: effective running game and with the stable of backs that
- 46:44Speaker 1: they had. Thanks Todd, appreciate the call it tapped out.
- 46:50Speaker 1: That was more than that was more than a little
- 46:51Speaker 1: disrespectful for you. You're in the middle of a sentence
- 46:54Speaker 1: and he just blew you off. That's all right, Maybe
- 46:56Speaker 1: as Banky will come in later tell me everything I
- 46:59Speaker 1: said wrong, so we get and just you know, as
- 47:03Speaker 1: a point of fact, I don't think they could possibly
- 47:05Speaker 1: throw more short passes this year than they did last year.
- 47:07Speaker 1: So I'm not really sure that there's going to be
- 47:09Speaker 1: a you know, this widespread movement to the short passing game.
- 47:12Speaker 1: I actually think it will be the opposite. I think
- 47:13Speaker 1: you'll see more stuff down the field. As mac Jones
- 47:17Speaker 1: progresses and gets more comfortable with that in year two.
- 47:19Speaker 1: I think that's a great point. That's what the offense
- 47:21Speaker 1: is going to need to do to make some progress
- 47:24Speaker 1: is do some some things differently. He proved last year
- 47:26Speaker 1: he could he could be effective in the in the
- 47:28Speaker 1: short passing game. His completion percentage was excellent. Yeah, and
- 47:31Speaker 1: I'd say, you know, one little thing to that point, Paul,
- 47:33Speaker 1: I think it's a great point. One little thing that
- 47:35Speaker 1: caught my eye. You know, we talk a lot about
- 47:37Speaker 1: when the offense breaks up, you get usually two groups.
- 47:39Speaker 1: You get the group that you know, I don't want
- 47:41Speaker 1: to say the starters, because it's not just eleven guys,
- 47:43Speaker 1: it's you know, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen guys that are on
- 47:46Speaker 1: one side, and then there's another you know, the other
- 47:47Speaker 1: guys are on the other kind of learning group. And
- 47:50Speaker 1: you know, I was excited to see Taekwon Thornton over
- 47:52Speaker 1: with you know, Mac and that kind of like you know,
- 47:54Speaker 1: that group working in reps with that at least at
- 47:56Speaker 1: the top. It just gave me some hope. Something we
- 47:59Speaker 1: talked about a little bit on the radio yesterday. We
- 48:00Speaker 1: talked about it last week when when you were here, Paul,
- 48:03Speaker 1: of you know, just Thornton and the speed, and you know,
- 48:06Speaker 1: I think a lot of people were really wanted a
- 48:08Speaker 1: second round wide receiver. And I think because of Parker
- 48:11Speaker 1: and a Galore and Bourne and Myers that you know,
- 48:14Speaker 1: expectations or maybe like well he'll just kind of a
- 48:16Speaker 1: red shirt ear. But you know, maybe not like I mean,
- 48:19Speaker 1: I just maybe I'm I'm maybe this is false hope.
- 48:21Speaker 1: But I think, as you said that downfield stuff, you
- 48:24Speaker 1: think about, man, if you could get a Galore and
- 48:26Speaker 1: Parker and and and him going as well, all three
- 48:29Speaker 1: of those guys with different kind of skill sets that
- 48:31Speaker 1: can work down the field, be at speed, be it contested,
- 48:33Speaker 1: catches um, that could be the element. You know, that
- 48:36Speaker 1: could be the element. And I think just to see
- 48:38Speaker 1: Forton out here getting some reps, if he can stay
- 48:41Speaker 1: healthy and not get kind of caught in that rut
- 48:43Speaker 1: that we've seen so many rookies get stuck in where
- 48:44Speaker 1: they're here for a couple of days, they get hurt,
- 48:46Speaker 1: they miss camp, and then they're behind the ape all
- 48:49Speaker 1: the entire season. Hopefully he can stay out there, continue
- 48:51Speaker 1: to contribute, and who knows, I mean, if he makes
- 48:54Speaker 1: an electric play downfield, I think fans are going to
- 48:56Speaker 1: be buzzing. Yeah, and that's like I keep using the
- 48:58Speaker 1: Bethel Johnson apple for him. You know, back when when
- 49:02Speaker 1: Bethel was a rookie, he didn't play a tremendous amount
- 49:05Speaker 1: in terms of you know, snaps, you know, the percentage
- 49:07Speaker 1: of snaps. But he did get opportunities throughout the course
- 49:11Speaker 1: of the season and he almost always took advantage of
- 49:14Speaker 1: them and made a big play here or there. And
- 49:16Speaker 1: those are the kinds of plays that can really make
- 49:18Speaker 1: differences in games, especially tight games, um like the Patriots, Uh,
- 49:22Speaker 1: you know we're involved in at times last year. Yeah,
- 49:25Speaker 1: if he could be that kind of a guy where
- 49:27Speaker 1: you could go out there and say, you know, you
- 49:29Speaker 1: had to be out there ten plays a game, you know,
- 49:32Speaker 1: and in one of those ten plays, at least, we're
- 49:33Speaker 1: probably going to give you an opportunity to make a play.
- 49:36Speaker 1: And can he do it? Well? It's uh, it's getting
- 49:39Speaker 1: a little interesting now. It looks like we've we've got
- 49:41Speaker 1: some seven on seven work potentially down on the far end. Uh. Yeah,
- 49:47Speaker 1: we're lining up for something. We have a little defense
- 49:49Speaker 1: going on down there. Yeah, somewhat out of my range,
- 49:54Speaker 1: a little bit of a competitive portion. But yeah, a
- 49:57Speaker 1: lot of the you know, the main cogs out there,
- 50:00Speaker 1: and uh and Mac a little pass, a little dump
- 50:05Speaker 1: off to Damian Hare. So how many times do we
- 50:06Speaker 1: say that last year pass like it's twenty one all
- 50:08Speaker 1: over again. Let's get a couple of questions in here
- 50:11Speaker 1: while we're going through these. Uh, Tim writes in asking
- 50:14Speaker 1: about the season ticket holding practice, and he wanted to
- 50:16Speaker 1: know if there might be some real hitting this year. Tim,
- 50:19Speaker 1: it looks like the the in stadium practice is going
- 50:22Speaker 1: to be next Friday, so a week from this Friday. However,
- 50:26Speaker 1: they are scheduled to practice four days before that, so
- 50:29Speaker 1: I would anticipate it will be yet another glorified kind
- 50:32Speaker 1: of walk through. I think maybe a couple of years.
- 50:35Speaker 1: Was it last year that there was really just kind
- 50:37Speaker 1: of the yeah, it's usually a walk through a type
- 50:40Speaker 1: situation and mat Mac just missed on that one. Looked
- 50:43Speaker 1: like he had Jacobe Myers was that John? U can't tell,
- 50:49Speaker 1: but he was running a little crossing route like Mac
- 50:53Speaker 1: missed him, and I think he's all right, But he's
- 50:55Speaker 1: staying down on his knee for a second here, but
- 50:57Speaker 1: they're continuing to roll things. Let's get another question, Oh
- 51:03Speaker 1: did you Yeah, I can't really remember, and I've been
- 51:09Speaker 1: obviously to more of these practices than i'd care to admit.
- 51:12Speaker 1: I can't recall an in stadium practice that involved pads,
- 51:17Speaker 1: let alone really any contact. And I think part of
- 51:20Speaker 1: that is there's a lot of guys out there in
- 51:22Speaker 1: a small amount of space on one field, and I
- 51:25Speaker 1: think that they sort of look at that as just
- 51:27Speaker 1: an opportunity to get out, get on the practice field,
- 51:29Speaker 1: you know, show you know, the season ticket members get
- 51:32Speaker 1: a chance to sort of see things, and it's just
- 51:36Speaker 1: like a kind of a quick, you know, recap. And
- 51:39Speaker 1: as you point out, I think, Mike, you make a
- 51:41Speaker 1: really good point because if you're gonna go five days
- 51:43Speaker 1: in a row, that fifth day could just be sort
- 51:45Speaker 1: of kind of a review. Let's make sure we get
- 51:48Speaker 1: everything up to speed, and we're going to go over
- 51:50Speaker 1: all kinds of situations and how many times did we
- 51:52Speaker 1: watch Bill and that in stadium practice, it's like free
- 51:55Speaker 1: kick after a safety, you know, like every possible situation
- 52:00Speaker 1: imaginable has gone over. The defense is pretty scrappy down
- 52:05Speaker 1: in that red zone seven on seven drill that you
- 52:07Speaker 1: were talking about, Mike, You know, some of the couple
- 52:11Speaker 1: of passes defensed and looks like they're getting after a
- 52:14Speaker 1: little bit. That's good. Uh, Cody writes in Cody, Indiana, Cody,
- 52:20Speaker 1: great question. Based off the first eight minutes of training camp.
- 52:22Speaker 1: Does it look like DeVante Parker is going to be
- 52:24Speaker 1: a true wide receiver one? That's a good one. I
- 52:27Speaker 1: hope I'm sensing the tongue in cheek nature of that.
- 52:31Speaker 1: But absolutely, he looks like he's Randy Moss out there.
- 52:33Speaker 1: He's wearing number one's. I just want to get pass
- 52:37Speaker 1: thinking he's to kill Harry. That's all. I just want
- 52:39Speaker 1: to stop, stop that, get that out of my brain.
- 52:42Speaker 1: But thanks for the question, Cody. Uh. Yeah, last year
- 52:46Speaker 1: I got at them from Eddie. Last year Mac got
- 52:48Speaker 1: crushed with pass rush. How will this improve this year?
- 52:50Speaker 1: Matt camp withstand that type of punishment? Ah. I mean
- 52:54Speaker 1: he definitely took some shots last year, and I think
- 52:56Speaker 1: we've talked about that a little bit of just having
- 52:58Speaker 1: a better grasp of the offense and you know, getting
- 53:01Speaker 1: getting the protection set correctly, knowing where his you know,
- 53:04Speaker 1: free rusher was going to come from. But or thought
- 53:06Speaker 1: he did. He did an okay job. I mean, but
- 53:08Speaker 1: there's no question. You know you don't want to get
- 53:10Speaker 1: him lit up. I mean he doesn't. That's another one
- 53:14Speaker 1: from Kendrick I think. Yeah, Kendrick Bourne, back of the
- 53:16Speaker 1: end zone. Nice throw by Matt kind of a little
- 53:18Speaker 1: bit of a fingertip catch there. And here's where I
- 53:21Speaker 1: here's where I bring it all together, Alex. This is
- 53:22Speaker 1: how you write blood survations. Okay, that throw that he
- 53:25Speaker 1: just threw to Kendrick Bourne is exactly the throw they
- 53:28Speaker 1: were working on over here over the net, dropping it
- 53:31Speaker 1: into the back pylon. Yep. And that's how it all
- 53:33Speaker 1: comes full circle. That's how you survived twenty whatever years
- 53:36Speaker 1: and that last show they were doing here with the
- 53:38Speaker 1: short passes. Kendrick did probably make the best couch I've
- 53:42Speaker 1: seen yet today, but kind of like bobbled it a
- 53:44Speaker 1: little bit, somehow managed to get it in his left hand,
- 53:47Speaker 1: pull it in, got a nice little reaction from the
- 53:50Speaker 1: crowd there. So you're definitely getting a little bit of
- 53:53Speaker 1: a healthy rotation just in terms of the personnel overall.
- 53:56Speaker 1: There it is again to Kendrick Bourne. Ye spike four.
- 54:00Speaker 1: But you know, just as an example, I mean, you're
- 54:02Speaker 1: seeing Brennan Schooler undrafted, you know, rookie, maybe more of
- 54:06Speaker 1: a special teams guy getting some some defensive reps. So
- 54:08Speaker 1: I think they're just you know, mixing everybody in, getting
- 54:11Speaker 1: everybody used to you know, the pace, getting the call,
- 54:15Speaker 1: knowing what to do all that before the pats you know,
- 54:18Speaker 1: come on. But you know, hard to hard to really
- 54:21Speaker 1: discern too much right now, just in terms of who's
- 54:24Speaker 1: out there. See when Alex was talking about Born earlier
- 54:27Speaker 1: in the show, about like all the things that he's
- 54:28Speaker 1: been wanting to do and stuff like, that's the kind
- 54:31Speaker 1: of even just watching right now, which is the first
- 54:33Speaker 1: hour of training camp and he's over, you know, celebrating
- 54:36Speaker 1: with try Brown on the sideline, his energy is just
- 54:39Speaker 1: sort of infectious even just to watch. Yeah, smile too,
- 54:45Speaker 1: I've never seen him not smile. I don't think it's
- 54:48Speaker 1: been mad. A little dump off there to to JJ Taylor,
- 54:51Speaker 1: he's looks like he squeaked in as well. So a
- 54:55Speaker 1: lot of reps, I mean, and remember the last year too, Paul,
- 54:57Speaker 1: we uh remember just being struck by how much red
- 54:59Speaker 1: zone work they did and it seems like, yeah, I
- 55:01Speaker 1: remember already starting off again and remember what the question was,
- 55:05Speaker 1: you know, like you seem like You've done a lot
- 55:06Speaker 1: of red zone work. You know why is that? We
- 55:08Speaker 1: always That's what we always did, And here we are
- 55:11Speaker 1: the next year. You're doing a lot of red zone
- 55:12Speaker 1: stuff right off the right, off the top. So Bailey's
- 55:15Speaker 1: appy getting a chance and misfire. They're caught on the
- 55:18Speaker 1: back end line by arresting Kyle Dugger. So missed on
- 55:22Speaker 1: that one, Doug Doug do and uh yeah, Bill just
- 55:30Speaker 1: standing behind the offense, not too far from Joe Judge.
- 55:34Speaker 1: And where's where's Maddie? Pe? We got we got any
- 55:36Speaker 1: play calling insight here? I believe he is on the sideline,
- 55:41Speaker 1: but I can't tell. I'm gonna throw up the big
- 55:43Speaker 1: buyos here again, Is that's him over there with all
- 55:48Speaker 1: of the Uh, that one had no chance. There's a
- 55:51Speaker 1: lot of bodies in between the ball and the receiver,
- 55:53Speaker 1: I mean the passing the receiver on that one. Yeah, Billy,
- 55:58Speaker 1: not a great couple of first reps there for bail.
- 56:00Speaker 1: He's happy. Yeah. I do not see Matt Patricia right now.
- 56:04Speaker 1: That was the person I was pointing out was not yet.
- 56:08Speaker 1: So I'm not sure where he is. Maybe he's working
- 56:10Speaker 1: with Maybe he's down and he's down. Oh, there he is,
- 56:12Speaker 1: He's down in Dante's inferno. There you go. So working
- 56:16Speaker 1: with the offensive. Wow, not to read too much into it,
- 56:18Speaker 1: but you know, was it be committee? And that's when
- 56:22Speaker 1: we saw in the spring seven on sevens was Joe Judge,
- 56:24Speaker 1: full team was Matt Patricia? Yeah? Yeah. And then we
- 56:28Speaker 1: got Bill given a little one on one tutor session.
- 56:31Speaker 1: Sure who that was eighty eighty three. Oh that's a
- 56:35Speaker 1: little Jordan. Well Jordan. Little Jordan came came late in
- 56:39Speaker 1: the process. I know he's got at least one big
- 56:41Speaker 1: fan uh on Patriots Unfiltered listener last week. And I
- 56:47Speaker 1: was very excited about that. But my wife should feel
- 56:50Speaker 1: about me the way that guy feels about little Jordan humbul.
- 56:53Speaker 1: She doesn't even like she's as much as he likes.
- 56:55Speaker 1: He liked little Jordan. Uh, he was excited. But but
- 56:58Speaker 1: he's yeas getting some extended you know, one on one
- 57:01Speaker 1: time with Bill explaining them stuff. I mean, it's just, uh,
- 57:05Speaker 1: it seems like Bill Belichick just loves any part of
- 57:08Speaker 1: little football coach. You grab one random player to one
- 57:11Speaker 1: random thing, and he loves it. I mean, here we are,
- 57:14Speaker 1: day one a camp. He's talking a you know guy
- 57:16Speaker 1: I got here two months ago, trying to coach him up,
- 57:20Speaker 1: and we're dividing back up here. So we got what
- 57:22Speaker 1: do we got down here? We got some get some
- 57:25Speaker 1: punt gunner, Yeah, working on some I know that's you know,
- 57:28Speaker 1: special teams path. It's it's one third of the game.
- 57:30Speaker 1: I've been told. Yeah, I got the quote that I
- 57:35Speaker 1: needed from Bill Belichick this spring about that. I'll be
- 57:38Speaker 1: hammering that one home. But yeah, well the kickoff has
- 57:41Speaker 1: pretty much been taken out of the game and it's
- 57:43Speaker 1: not really much in the return game. Yeah. Then question
- 57:46Speaker 1: in the back that why is it a third of
- 57:48Speaker 1: the game? Math? Math? Math? So it's nice the quarterbacks
- 57:52Speaker 1: have now moved. Uh. And it's like the backs and
- 57:55Speaker 1: the receivers are down here right uh right below us.
- 57:59Speaker 1: See what they're what got bruined. But it's like the
- 58:02Speaker 1: defensive line working on some ball security, trying to knock
- 58:06Speaker 1: the ball out of the quarterbacks hands. Maybe yeah, with
- 58:10Speaker 1: sixty four, I believe his Lebryan Ray's train nix A
- 58:16Speaker 1: eighty two, eighty seven, eighty seven seven, Okay, who's eighty
- 58:20Speaker 1: two on the way, I'm sorry he is eighty two? Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 58:24Speaker 1: sorry he thought last year he was eighty seven. My apologize. Yeah,
- 58:28Speaker 1: he bobbled a punt and that's it was sent on
- 58:32Speaker 1: the paces T. There it goes everyone's favorite freak out candidate,
- 58:35Speaker 1: Paul's favorite block servations and somebody takes a lap. It's
- 58:39Speaker 1: as lay up as they come. Question from Jacking and
- 58:43Speaker 1: Arbor asking about David Andrews on the pup list, are
- 58:45Speaker 1: you concerned he might not be healthy enough to start
- 58:47Speaker 1: the season on the active buster. Well, he spoke with
- 58:49Speaker 1: the media yesterday, didn't seem too concerned. It seemed like
- 58:52Speaker 1: they're just taking it slow, so I wouldn't be too concerned.
- 58:55Speaker 1: I think James Farens is fine for training camp can
- 58:57Speaker 1: give you a professional veteran in presence at center. Uh.
- 59:01Speaker 1: And we saw Cody Russy do you know, undrafted guy,
- 59:04Speaker 1: but we saw him do U do some snapping as
- 59:07Speaker 1: well in minimum and getting a chances. He's some of
- 59:12Speaker 1: the rookies, um, you know handle some of these punts too.
- 59:15Speaker 1: I think that's Jack Jones, which one is fifty two?
- 59:19Speaker 1: Fifty two? Is that Marcus? That's Marcus? That's Marcus Jones
- 59:23Speaker 1: is Jack. So that's good to see Marcus Jones get
- 59:26Speaker 1: a chance. Now. He was absolutely electric in the return game,
- 59:29Speaker 1: and um, you know, it's good to see him out here,
- 59:31Speaker 1: as you pointed out right at the top of the show, Mike,
- 59:34Speaker 1: not in the red jersey that we saw in the spring.
- 59:36Speaker 1: And now take it a step further, he's getting some
- 59:38Speaker 1: reps here. Um, you know, handling some punts. I think
- 59:42Speaker 1: that's an area that they could use a boost in,
- 59:45Speaker 1: you know, a little bit more consistency. I know, you know,
- 59:48Speaker 1: they lost an All Pro in that department, but I
- 59:49Speaker 1: think they could use a little more consistency in better
- 59:52Speaker 1: decision making in that in that role. Yeah, and as
- 59:55Speaker 1: well as uh, you know, Gunner didn't really get them
- 59:58Speaker 1: much other than than punt return, you know, and as
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: much as we wondered if you might have some skills
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: to play receiver and some quickness, it's just that never
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: quite clicked for him, even when you know there were
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: some injuries that struck So maybe Marcus Jones. I mean,
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: I know it's a little bit of a stacked depth
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: chart in terms of guys that can play in the
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: slot at cornerback, but he's another guy that you know,
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: useful kind of piece. I think the question is you
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: got a lot of slow corners. How to guys match
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: up on the outside. I mean we were talking about
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: on the show last week, Paul, what a murderers row
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: of receivers and weapons that you've you've got to face.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: I mean it's just every week. If it's not Tyreek
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: Hill or Davante Adams or Jamar Chase. Uh, you know,
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: it's just in Jefferson, It's just it's it's the fan digs,
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: it's jal and Waddle, it's you know, just so many
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: explosive weapons that they're going to have to face. And
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: you know, you really don't even need to, for me,
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: get out of the division you start with with Wattle
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: and Hill to what they're doing down in Miami, what
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: they've done the last two years, the Patriots. Uh, and
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: obviously we all know what Buffalo is doing and what
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: they've got. So how do these cornerbacks kind of play out?
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: And we're watching a little bit of Malcolm Butler as well.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: I mean, you'd love to get that old Malcolm Butler,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: that feisty man coverage guy, but who knows. I mean
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: that's a year off. We'll have to wait and see
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: on him. Yeah, these are the kinds of things that
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: you know, you start to sort out when you see
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: it a little bit when we moved to like the
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: Carolina joint practices, and you'll see the groups that are
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: all playing together, and then you go into the games
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: and you're sort of see who's working with each other
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: and you try to figure out, Okay, well someone is
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: probably not healthy and not playing in the game at
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: the time, so you got to figure out would that
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: guy be in there? But this is when those those
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: kinds of questions start to get answered. We started watching
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: the personnel groups and drawing our conclusions as we see
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: it looks like we're all coming back to the to
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: the right side field, and it seems like Mapatricius got
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: got a piece of paper out. So maybe this will
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: probably be eleven on eleven then, or at least getting
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: ready to do eleven on eleven. How the fun starts. Yeah,
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: you know, I I think I kind of undersold it
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: a little bit at the top. I mean, there has
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: been uh, I mean, it's certainly been more little team
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: competitive periods. It seems like, I mean not maybe not more,
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: but at least equal to what we were kind of
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: seeing in the spring, which was not much but yeah,
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: I think it's I think it's a continuation of the spring.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: I was worried this was just gonna be a nothing. Hey, hey,
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: how you doing? Just getting to know you, you know
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: with like trust falls and team building exercise, it's not
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: really Yeah, everybody stopped smoking cigarettes for for a week
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: and get themselves in shape. We gotta we gotta get
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: over a wall without using anything to get a bucket
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: of water across a rope. Swit. You know. That's gonna
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: stay with seven on seven here, and Maddy p is
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: over here this time for this, for this one with
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: Joe Judge. They're both here and it's the same as
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: it always was. And the dump off the Steven. It
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: was nice for them to do it down on our
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: end this time. Yeah. Yeah, well we got a good
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: we got a good spot up overhead here. Uh, you
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: can't really get a bird's eye view of We moved
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: here during COVID, and I don't think they're ever getting
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: us down from here. Just so we have just looking
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: at some of the defensive backs here. You have Terrence Mitchell,
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: you have Kyle Dugger, you have Jalen Mills, Yes, Adrian Phillips. Yeah,
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: you get showing that wade on the inside and the slot.
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: So a lot of a lot of different, um, you know,
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: personnel groupings. This is like I was just talking about,
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: you sort of trying to figure out where everybody fits
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: in and what might be the case down the road. Yeah, well,
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: I mean I think you know right now, just seeing
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: McMillan and Wilson out there together, those are you know,
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: two new faces. I mean, and I know, no we
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: almost here briefly last year, but I mean you talk
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: about the transitional linebacker, Guys that can run, guys that
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: can cover. I mean they've been around the league a
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: little bit. You know, no offense to to Gilani Tavai
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: or Harvey longye. Also you know guys who have played,
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: but you know, maybe more of the special teams kind
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: of tip. And you know jo Want Bentley. A lot
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: of a lot of eyes on him this year. I
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: mean he's been here, he signed a couple of years.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: I mean, has the leadership. I got a really good
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: year last year, got a ton of experience in twenty twenty.
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: Back just misfires there in the back of the end zone.
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: So let me throw one out at your early. Yeah,
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: an unfair one, but That's what I do. Like that
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: Jonathan Jones is on PUP. I mentioned this briefly at
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: the start. He's a guy that makes a little bit
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: of money. I see Sean Wade doing a lot of
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: stuff in the slot. I saw a lot of that
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: in the spring too. I'm just wondering if they're grooming
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: him to maybe replace Jonathan Jones, if maybe Jonathan Jones
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: could be one of those surprise cuts. I mean, I
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: think it's a I think it's a great point when
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: you whenever you look at the money and the depth
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: at slot. I mean, I think the only the only
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: reason for pause is just the overall turnover you've had,
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: and you know, the experience that he you know, he
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: has a brand new you know, and especially you know
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: some of the experience he's had with Tyreek Hill. I mean,
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: is that you know something you feel like you're gonna
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: need with him in the division. Now, granted he's a
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: little bit older, he's a little bit expensive. Look at
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: you look at Miles Bryant, you look at uh, you know,
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: like we mentioned with with Marcus Jones, I mean, all
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: those guys kind of fit that slot kind of profile.
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: Someone's got to go someone gotta go right. You can't
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: have all of those guys. And I'm looking another guy too.
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: I think that, you know, maybe not in that mix,
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: but but not far from it is blood spa. Another guy,
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: Brian Hoyer rolls out and Christian Wilkerson with the touchdown. Now,
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: I came into that play a little bit late, but
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: I mean that would be you know, that's kind of
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: the uh this kind of play action rollback, and I
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: don't know, like I was just thinking the same thing,
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: like was that a designed because you just sort of
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: like spun back and reversed to the you know, to
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: his left. Is that's like the wide zone coming off
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: the wide So I don't know if that was something
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: that was called and he, you know, was pre planned
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: in his mind. I'm gonna wait a split second here
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: and then, or if he just bought a little bit
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: of time and waited for Wilkerson to to pop open.
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: That's a good throw from Mac to Parker, not Harry
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: on uh yeah on Marcus Jones. Um. But that's you know,
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: I think that's that's a good example of Parker. I mean,
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: it's a size mismatch. You know, you get Marcus Jones
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: lined up on whatever Dante DeVante Parker is. Was he
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: like sixty three? I mean it's you know, it's it's
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: no question. And those are the kind of things I
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: think they can you know, that they can exploit. Bill
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: liked that one. It looks like Bill gave him a
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: little out of boy. All the receivers want to uh
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: rally around him for that one. Yeah. I like Mac
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: you know, firing that one in there that was not
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: wide open. It was a little bit of a tighter ye,
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: a little bit of a tighter window. And I thought
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: he got it in there nicely too, to to his
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: newest h his newest toy, Poka. So you got Thornton
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: out there now, Yeah, trouble getting away from Malcolm Butler
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: and that time Parker touched down on the crowd out
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: Oh all right, and he just hurt himself. I kid,
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: I kid. That was for Fred. That was Fred. Fred
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: was listening. That was for Fred. Sorry, that's great. I
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: can't hope it's great. Great play nice this, you know
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: with with like with born In Parker, you see some
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: juice with that wide receiver group, and I you know,
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: they're gonna need to uh create some of that energy.
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: That was a nice play crowd one while Born came over,
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: gave him him a jump, jumping a bump, and I mean, Paul,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: it looks like Patricia. It looks like Patricia calling the stuff.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, still seven on seven. But I mean
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: you got there all like Bill has a you know,
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: a card in his hand too. Oh how this one
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: was not designed? That one was definitely not designed. He
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: pulled that one down and then slid a little bit
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: to his to his right head. Aggalore back end, Aggie Nellie,
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: nice little play. And Brian Horrison. Nice a little session
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: from Mac there, I mean, a couple of nice ones
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: to Parker. Just love the pumping up the crowd. I
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: mean it's just you know, people people here to watch
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: this stuff. That's that's what they live for, getting DeVante
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: Parker right up in their face, fired up, making a
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: big catch. You've fired up, man, it's fired up. Let's
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: see Clinton. Yeah so so. Charles writing in the same
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: kind of question, wondering the whole mystery behind Matt, Patricia
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: and Joe Judge, the clauses and their contracts with their
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: former employers. Uh if the Patriots would have to pay
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: them and hire echelon roles where they have to pay
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: their mind raining balances. I mean, I think that's that's
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: kind of something you've I think hit on in the past, Paul.
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: Just you know, they're being still being paid by former teams.
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: If you give them an offensive coordinator title, not only
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: you know, do you have to pay them? Does that
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: cancel out what they're other teams playing them? So you
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: know a little financial financial loopholes wherever you can find them.
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: But I mean I do think that that is that's
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: a question that they can be asked. Yeah, everybody literally
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: my guess that that has something to do with it.
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: I mean, it's a funny picture right now. You literally
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: have Joe, Judge, Bill Belichick, Mappatricia standing right in a row,
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: each of the five feet from each other, looking at
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: the play. I mean, I don't think that they're trying
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: to be facetious, but it's but it's just a does
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: it looks like Maddy p is talking into like the
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: headset right now? It kind of looks like that to
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: me from from afar, Please from A can't confirm Big Barnos. Yeah,
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: Big Barnos do confirm Appatricia. So he has a headset on?
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: Does does Joe Judge have a headset on. I mean,
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: all due respect to headsets, he might not need one.
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: He has a lot of voice. With all due respect
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: the headsets, he does not have him on a wakee top. Now, okay,
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: so so Alex, remember when I was talking about Mac
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: Jones last year, I had very few plays that the
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: ball didn't seem to come out very quick, and it
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: was kind of atypical of a lot of rookies. And
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: you see that was a Bailey Zappie rep right there,
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: and he probably held the ball for ten seconds. You know,
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: he pump in, he was moving, he was waiting because
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: he's probably not quite as certain as of what he's
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: seeing as you know, a guy with a little bit
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: more experience. And I thought that's what really jumped out
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: to me with Mac Jones last year was as a rookie,
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: he couldn't tell he was nervous. It was just like
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: he did wasn't like sure of where he wanted to
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: go with the ball wars. Mac generally did know where
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: he wanted to go with the ball on most players
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: last last summer. And I think that was what was
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: really that really stood out training total contrast exactly what
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: I said, kind of at the top. Just interesting to
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: kind of compare and contrast each year when you have
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: a rookie quarterback, a little one off the beaten path.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: Here from from Destiny writing in. It's only your second
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: time writing in. But uh, she wanted she wants us
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: to laugh a little bit. But how do we feel
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: about the Bears receiving Cord now? With Nikkil Hare? I
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: feel bad for Justice Field. That's the weak crop of talent.
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: What was the caller we had in from He was
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: calling in from Chicago yesterday saying he thought he was Yeah, yeah,
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: what would you rather? Would you rather Patriots go ohen
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: seventeen or Nikil Harry leads the league and receiving what
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: with Harry? What with Harry? On that one? As much
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: as it pains me, I look forward to the potential
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: of um whispers coming out of nikkiel now that he's
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: in Chicago. I wonder if he'll start talking. I agree, Yeah,
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: it's something to keep an eye on. I mean, it's
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: a great you know, look, it's it's followed quickly by
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: the entirety of Patriots Nation ripping him for doing it. Yeah,
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: it's I mean a good opportunity for nikkil you know.
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: I mean you talk about you want to go to
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: a place for a reset. You got a young quarterback
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: with a big arm, not really much to work with.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: I mean, how much would Chicago love it for him
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: to come in and contribute? But all right, we're going
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: to some It looks like there's some eleven on eleven. No,
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: not even not even almost. It's like like eleven on
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: seven maybe, but it's a nine on seven down and seven.
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: They look like they got the full numbers are hard. Yeah,
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: I can't count, I have I can't talk all right,
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: but you know what I can do a little offensive line.
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: Uh look, see here, let's give a Lukie loop. That's well,
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: let's talk about what you get down there. Yeah, let's
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: talk about the Parker, the out sorry of the Parker.
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: I keep talking about Parker, the win and Trump Brown
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: kind of switch. I mean, that seems like that is
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: continuing to be the case. Trump Brown has has been
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: consistently a left tackle, as a Win has been consistently
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: a right tackle. Same kind of group we've we've seen
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: that we saw in the spring. So it seems like
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: there's definitely something there to that kind of rejigger of
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: the offensive line with Cold Strange coming in, and of
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: course James Farrens is working a lot with the top
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: group today with Michael and when you at right guard
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: and wo numbers Farents sixty five, sixty five, Bubba, doesn't
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: he just look like a guy that they called I mean,
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: I mean, it's kind of football. I don't know if
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: I call it royalty, but Ferrence, it's like Iowa football
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: just heaven. Yeah, we've gotten to that point of practice already,
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: still earlier than normal, start starting starting to die down
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: a little bit. Yeah, this uh, some makeshift work. Eleven
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: on eleven I think is what we're getting for the
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: most Partyeah. Well, you've got the defensive linemen with with
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: with those blocking pads. So it makes me wonder if
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: this is kind of runfit stuff and maybe maybe going
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: over some yeah, some of their sets, you know, maybe
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: this is uh maybe some inside zone work. Now hard
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: to tell, but yeah, it certainly seems like you a point, Mike.
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: The Trent Brown Isaiah wind swap looks to be more
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: of a permanent thing. Yeah, and we'll see if if
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: things change. But this has gone on you know now
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: four or five, six, times that we've gotten to see them,
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: and that's that's been the lineup every time they've both
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: been out there. Yeah, such it. I mean I figured
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: I saw bringing up but talking about well maybe they
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: want strange to be surrounded by, you know, two veterans.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: But I don't know, is it. I mean, what does
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: it really make that much of a different I think
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: it's a pretty simple equation to me. And I think
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: they feel like Trent Brown's a better player than Isaiah
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: went and and I if that's the case, then I
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: think that's exactly what you do. And I have to say, like,
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: I feel pretty good. I mean, I don't feel like
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: this is you know, one of the top three five
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: lines in the league. But I think if they stay
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: healthy that they can be a very good offensive line.
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: And you know, but it's just staying healthy. I think
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: that's the biggest key. And I think that's why kind
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: of people sleep on them. Let me not sleep on them,
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: but you know, maybe underrate them a little bit is
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: just because of the injury history. And you know, every
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: time it kind of comes up, we get a caller
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: a question that brings up, well, who's up when Trent
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: Brown goes down? Who's up when Isaiah wind goes down?
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: But I mean those are good questions. Those are good questions,
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: and and it's you know, are we in that that
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: rare version of the multiverse with doctor Strange, that like
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: this is the year that all of them stay healthy
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: and that you know there. I mean there have been
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: years like that with the Patriots where it's just wire
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: to wire, right, And I do think I do think
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: there's some questions. I know, Warren Sharp, who does a
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: lot of that football analysis, I think he had the
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: Patriot's offensive line at seventeen. He's seventeen or eighteen something
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: in that neighborhood. But I do think if you look
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: at it on paper, you might say, well, that seems low.
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: But they lost two starters from last year, and they
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: really only replaced one by drafting Cole Strange in the
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: first round. They had a guy who obviously they didn't
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: feel was as good as the guy's playing last year
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: who's now plugged in. I think he's fine. I think
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: you a point about him playing right guard is a
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: good one. Might I think he's probably more suited to that.
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: I think he played better there as a rookie than
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: he did last year, you know, sort of moving around
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: a little bit. So I think if Brown and Win
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: boths stay healthy, I think the offensive line will be fine.
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: I don't think it's a dominant group, and I think
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: a big part of improvement that you might see is
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: going to be on Mac. Yeah, like that backside, I
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: mean that front side pressure that seemed to bother him
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: from the first snap of the season all the way
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: through the end of the year. That can't be an
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: issue anymore. That can't be an issue anymore. He's gotta
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: he's gotta get he's got to get to the bottom
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: of that. I don't think he was consistently under a
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: tremendous amount of pressure last year, but there were specific
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: blitz is that he seemed to have a hard time recognizing. Yeah,
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: for sure, unless little touchdown scamper there by Romandre Stevenson,
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: Mac Jones given n I tell you, Paul, I mean,
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: you've been all over Mandre this season, and I feel
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: like a lot of people are starting to come around
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: to what you've been saying, Paul. I feel like for
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: for the whole off season of you know, there's a
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: lot of intrigue. I think will Romandre Stevenson and the
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: question is, you know, can he just kind of get
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: that rhythm and get into enough carries and you know,
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: that consistency where he can be every week in week
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: out a problem. I think last year it was sometimes,
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: it was sometimes yeah, Harris, but you never really had
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: that game where they both were just going off, they
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: were both healthy. You had guys in and out. I
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: don't know how much is Strong and Harris are going
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: to factor into this immediately, but I think I think
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: Stevenson could really could really be onto something this year.
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: Bertie Phil Perry's and all over that train. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: he's He's very high on on Stevenson's ability to to
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: maybe take a take it to the next level. And
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: so there's there's Time Montgomery getting a carry out of
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: the backfield as well. So saw him a lot with
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: the receivers in mini camp. But it's just an example
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: of a guy that can do a lot of things,
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: and just you can't ignore those guys on this roster,
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: especially if injuries start to pop up. You know, we
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: know on them about White James Taylor is strong, going
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: to be ready to go. I mean I think he
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: could pretty easily see Time Montgomery playing a role in
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: the backfield in Week one on passing downs, James Taylor, huh,
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: James Taylor. So it's a little uh fire and rain.
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: I thought that was a lap. No, not not not
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: a lot, not a lot. It's not a lap, it's
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: not a pick. Got Anthony Jennings down there, man, God
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: bless God bless Matthew jude On and the full I
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: mean he is rocking the full red sweatshirt. He's playing
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: into the red sleeves of it all. But it's a
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: brand to him. I think he asked him last year
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: and he was like, I always wear sweatshirts. That's kind
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: of his, kind of his thing. We'll see if that
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: holds next week. If it gets like a little steamy
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: out here, like a wrestler trying to cut weight, yeah, right,
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: running around, he's probably gonna have to wrestle. Shoot a
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: little shoot, wrestle. Shoot. Do you get that reference house?
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: I'm sure, I'm sure she doesn't. I'm just laughing and nothing. Now.
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: It's a Vision Quests eighties movie, classic early eighties cheese,
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: high school wrestler's kid. He's got it. He wants to
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: wrestle that, he wants to wrest the best wrestler in
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: the area and he has to lose weight to do it,
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: so he wants to wrestle shoot balls in love with
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: Linda Fiorentino. I mean it's a great, great all around
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: sounds like it checks all the boxes. Yeah, I feel
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: like what we should have done in the last couple
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: of weeks was like, Alex, you got to watch Godfather
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: at least two or three times and Jaws at least
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: two or three times. If you want to see Godfather,
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: just not Jaws. Oh wow, I need another beer? You call?
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: You never seen it, so you never really just flip
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: on the TV on a weekend and randomly go to
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: TBS or or AMC where it just seems to always, always, always.
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: I've definitely seen it flipping through the channel, just not
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: for its entirety. The only clip I can really remember
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: that I have like a core memory of it is
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: just like the worst prop shark i've it was the seventies.
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: I know Steven Steilbert did a great job, but somehow
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: it's it's always on. Somehow, it's always on, somehow I
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: always watch it, and somehow I always then get a
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: text from Paul and or Hardy watching it as well
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: at the same time pouring out some little bit of minusha.
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: Oh did he hold on down with it? Nope? Nope,
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: So that was Max always throwing a Parker. I don't know,
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: they're celebrating like he did. The defense was celebrating and
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: the ball was over there. I don't know. I don't
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: know what happened on that play. I don't think he
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: survived the ground on that one, but but he seems
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: to be acting like he did. The offense is definitely
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: celebrating like it's a touchdown. Yeah, the defense was celebrating
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: like it was a stop and the ball wasn't really
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: close to anybody by the time they all got up
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: off the ground. But that was Parker again, by the way,
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: with more of that enthusiasm, that energy, and a similar
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: kind of here. It wasn't like he was wide open.
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: I mean, he's a guy on him, but that's what
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: he does. That's what he does. So Montgomery back in
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: the back, in the backfield, now back and a little
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: completion to Kendrick Thorne with ray Kawa McMillan covering him.
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: He seems he seems to be celebrating. The other the
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: rest of offense not so much. Yeah, I mean that
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: wasn't really I was about eight yard short of the
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: goal line. I'm not sure that there was a touchdown there,
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: no celebration for me, guys, what's going on here? That
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: may have been a no gain in life? Yeah right, well,
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: I think yeah, Ray Qualmill probably would have probably would
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: have wrapped them up and throw him down. But uh,
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: you know, the same triumvirate here of look at this
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: guy at the triumph all right, it's flanked on either
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: side by Joe Judge of Ma Patricia. I mean, you know,
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: three p's in a pod uh oyo to Montgomery a
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: little bit behind him, and low life man would probably
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: had a sack and tackled him on that plane. No,
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: that was that was last year. The first time we
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: mentioned Josh Jay today. And uh, I know, I think
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: high hopes, high hopes to see that, you know, he
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: can really contribute this year, maybe pick up six seven
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: sacks something like that. I mean, I don't necessarily need
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: him to be an every down player, but I think
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: he needs to be a disruptive player when he's out there.
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: And now Brian Hoyer in and now that's a long time,
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: but does complete it to Taekwon Thornton that one ten seconds. Yeah,
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: So I mean these are the things that you kind
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: of I was mallet esque. Maybe maybe now it's a
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: good time Paul to do a little talk about training
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: camp stats. Good example right there, as you know, hey,
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: Brian Hoyer one for one, caught it, Tykwon Thornton caught
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: a touchdown. And that's why I don't do stats, and
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: that's why when you look on pagriots dot com, you're
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: not going to find those stats. I'm sure you can
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: find them elsewhere, but probably will. I think that there's
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: uh there, I don't know if he was in don
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: That's a great throw by Hoyer, I put it, yeah,
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: perfectly outside. Nice catch by Thornton. I mean, you know
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: it hasn't been much, but you didn't yet. Yeah. Absolutely,
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: Parker and Thornton have have have have shown up a
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: little bit here today on the first day when they
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: were down doing those like red zone throws closer to us. Uh.
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: Tai Kwon got some good separation, showed off like the speed,
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: but Bailey just way overthrew it. So it's kind of
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: like missed opportunity to to see taekwe Yeah, well, I
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: mean he's it's interesting. It's it's hard to watch him.
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: And I don't want to compare him to Randy Moss,
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: but I think those tall, lean guys that are really
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: fast are kind of hard to gauge. I think, you know,
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: even defensive backs had had trouble with Randy Moss just
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: because he would gather so much speed, you know, and
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: and those long legs. It never looks like he's really
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: going that fast. But I mean, he's cooking. I wonder,
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: you know, it's easy to see with a guy like
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: Tyreek Hill, who's just electric and five eight and you know,
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: but these taller guys, I mean, I do think the
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: Thornton speed shows up even when he's doing little stuff.
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: But you know, what does it look like when he
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: gets a step on somebody and he's able to pull away?
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: I mean, that's that's the stuff that I want to
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: see when he's got the ball in his hands, um,
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: you know as much as that, Hey, let's see him
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: get downfield and you know, see Mack hit him down
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: the sidelines. Let's see him, you know, just a little
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: underneath stuff and see what he can do. All right,
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: here we go back back in its back and yeah,
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: that looks like fifty nine and fifty two. These are
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: the place like when Mike talks about stats and things
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: like that. Okay, so there's no pads, so the offensive
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: line is sort of powerless to like do anything about
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: a guy running full speed at them, you know, to
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: try to keep them away. I mean, obviously they're working
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: on their footwork and their hand placement and whatnot. But
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: and this is something that's getting cracked down on more
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: and more in recent years, any kind of contact at
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: these things. And the leagues get to watch some of
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: this video and all it takes is, you know, one
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: one bad practice tape, you know, with some you know,
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: too much contact and you end up in trouble. You're
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: getting fined and even worse it sometimes with you know,
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: with draft picks. I think Baltimore has had some some
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: issues with that too. I think Chicago may have at
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: some point. So, like it's it's tough. It's tough to
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: deal with the pass rush when you're in that setting.
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: Is that it's our boy folk? Hope my beer kind
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: of kicks some field goals here? Hold this, this is
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: the U Eric Scalavino Honorary field goal Kicker. What's he doing.
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: What's he got on his arm? He's got some kind
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: of giant pad on his He's gonna rash. What is
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: going on? So let's see he's not right? What are these?
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: What's that? I think a twenty four yard field goal?
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: Oh yeah hh yeah, swing of the right leg, um,
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: I think, So, I don't know, look good to me? Yeah,
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: you call it good, Alex's you're gonna have to tell
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: us a field goals are good or not. Thoth of
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: those were good, I think because Paul doesn't have very
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: good eyesight. I mean to be fair, Paul, it's the
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: death perception that's hard to get. If you just look
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: at the field goal post to the left. If the
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: ball disappears behind yellow for a second, that is what
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: I try to That is what I try to do.
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: But I think it just transforms into a yellow brownish
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: blurred skin through the agent. It was rather exhilarating. So
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: this is what thirty maybe thirty one? I can't Yeah,
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: that looks thirty. Although it's a little weird, Paul, because
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: the the field goal markers are a good ten yards
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: and back of the end of the end zone, which
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: seems like they shorten the fields. Perhaps Oh yeah, you know,
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: so you're you got to add another ten Yeah. They
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: definitely shortened the fields, at least the parts of painted,
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: because it used to be up to the forty both ways.
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: Now it's only up to the thirty. I'm gonna have
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: to probably get that in my heads, get that in there.
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: I have to get in bed in my blog today. Great,
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: the grass looks great too, I think they're I mean,
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: it's green, so you're right. Um, I probably would tack
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: another ten yards onto these, I mean the great The
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: great thing about this stuff is you can do two
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: practices on it. Go home, get someone to the Bejesus,
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: I knew you were going there. I knew you were
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: going there. God bless California, Sensimia, God bless your deuce. Ah.
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: So we got some guys working on looks like punt
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: blocks here, which you know, after a big couple of
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: years of Special Teams plays, not as many Special Teams
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: game changing plays last year, something they're probably looking to get. Unfortunately,
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: they had quite a few game changing plays. They're just
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: negative the three block blunts, punts. Yeah, some misques that
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: looks like a really fun droll just jump. Yeah, I
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: want to take you throw your body into the thing
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: and we go nick folks. So I guess this would
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: be like yeah, and it's up and it's good. Kick
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: was like low and yeah, I'll take your word, I think. So.
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: I think that one, that one looked the goodest of
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: all of them to me. And now we're coming back
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: onto the main field. Well, I think there's a good
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: side though. If they're you know, doing this much interesting
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: competitive stuff the first day, I think they'll probably be
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: a pretty good platter of it over the next few days.
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: If you're thinking of coming on down here to check
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: out some practice. There's definitely been some highlights to watch
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: for sure, some competitive portions, I mean, not as crazy
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: as things will get once the pads come on, but
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: some to watch, you know. And again we're seeing it's
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: like we're gonna get a little bit of eleven on
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: eleven work here down at the ten yard line, and
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: these would look like a lot of a lot of
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: the big dogs up here, but we're still seeing you know,
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: Sean Wade Bledsoe, those guys in the mix as well,
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: with the defensive side of the ball, and Max flushed
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: out of the pocket and he's got time Montgomery. It's
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: a nice, little nice will throw. Not sure if he
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: would have been sacked, but he's able to get away.
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: Dietrich Wise was in there with with some pressure as
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: most of it. Seems like most of the enders are
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: the ones, especially the front seven guys in the offensive
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: line of the ones wearing those headpads. So makes sense.
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: Those are the guys that probably banging their heads the most.
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: I know us we got so yeah, I got I
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: think Nick folks did Nick folks work too? At one
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: point I get all these kickers confused. I was looking
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: at Tristan Viscayno, who hasn't done any real kicking yet.
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: All right, Yeah, I don't know. He might have won two. Oh,
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: that's a good defensive play by Jalen Mills. Yeah, speaking
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: of number two. Yeah, trying to go to trying to
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: go to the contested catches again with Parker in the
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: back of the end zone. But and now it's Mills,
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: Mills trying to bring a little energy to the crowd,
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: a little quiet tonight, the green guy other than the
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: other than in yeah, other than when incited by the players.
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: I think the players are bringing the energy, exciting, excitement.
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: They incited a riot. So Mattie Mattie P one niner.
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: It's only Dilwaukee talking. Yeah, Morelwaukee talkie from MATTIEP. And
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: the defense uh yeah, huddled up as well. So Parker
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: had another touchdown in this drill. You you guys were saying,
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: uh not not not this one. That was just the
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: just the breakup target. I saw that one. I just
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: I've seen him and get what two one down, one
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: down here and one down there. Yeah, but you know,
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: I think it's uh, you know, it's hard to pump
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: one or two plays up too much. But yeah, at
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: this point it's all you got. Yeah, here we go again,
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: a little rep loven on eleven. Another nice pass defense
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: by your boys. Let's I don't don't call it. I can't.
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: He's a blood so he's got to be your guy, Paul, Oh,
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: he's not bub Bloods. That's the thing. I'll never get
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: used to his name, being like you gotta change your
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: last name. I only have room for one bloz crush.
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: Yeah it's true. But you know, yesterday somebody called in
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: and was asking about like a dark horse sleeper kind
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: of guy. I mean, I think Josh Bledsoe, I mean, granted,
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: at the hard parties. He's a stack position group with
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: veterans over him that you know, you're kind of penciling
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: into play again. They keep you know, drafting these safeties
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: and signing these kind of hybrid safety guys. But he's
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: been in the mix here all spring and right now
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: coming to the training camp back of the end zone.
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: Oh nice throw and throw and catch. Yeah, Brian Hoyer
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: to Devin Asias right in the corner, back corner of
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: the end zone. Perfect pass by and uh and it
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: was beating mccordy and coverage too, so you know, like
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: you might say, oh, well it's Hoyer or Nasias, but
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: you know there's there's still some front line guys out
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: there on defense. Yep. And again that was another one
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: of those you know, hierarchy passes to the back pylon.
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: There you go over the line of defenders with a
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: net love when it all, it all comes together, when
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: the plane comes together, Mike. Unfortunately, that's about all I
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: got today. Oh interception Joe, is that Nixon? They can
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: need to play? Uh. You know, another interesting little tidbit
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: I saw there. Paul was my guy yesterday. Kind of
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: a dark horse Henry Anderson. Uh, watching him drop out
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: into coverage. Um, you know, it's just something He's kind
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: of traditionally been more of a up the field, defensive
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: end kind of a player, especially when he was with
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: the Jets. But uh, that's why I had him as
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: a dark horse. I think they need edge guys. He
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: might be more of a hand down guy. But I
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: think that REP showed you, you know that that he
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: can do a little bit of work on his on
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: his feet player. Not much open. Yeah, everybody's covered. Everybody
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: covered on that one. Yeah. Defense has been much stronger
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: and this set of sevens than they were the last one. Yeah,
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: And obviously a needed play for Juwan Williams, who was
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: thrust into into action last year in the playoffs when
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: Jay lit Mills went on the COVID list after you know,
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: starting seventeen games, you gotta go into the playoffs. And
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: you know, Joan Williams last year here one of the
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: last guys standing from that draft class. And I mean
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: it's kind of kind of a now or never for
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: a guy like him, especially where we first got here
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: is behind Stefan Gilmore, J C. Jackson. You know there
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: there's nobody like that here now. So if ever he
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: was going to step up. Good little start for him. Paul,
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: here's a good one. I wanted to ask you about
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: actually yesterday a little you might know the answer to this.
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: How do you feel about the Bucks signed Julio Jones? Yeah,
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: I think Julio Jones is close to to being done. Yeah,
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: but I mean I think it's a good depth move
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: for them that, you know, I don't know what godwin
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: situation is. Um you know how ready he'll be. I
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: would think that he'd be off to at least a
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: slow start. Yeah. So it's a good depth move. And
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: Brady likes his veterans right just for how many years people,
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: you know, banging the Julio drum to get him here.
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: It's finally get a chance down and Tampa to play
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: together with Tommy Mac for the back of the end zone. Oh,
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: nice play, nice plays. Nice job by Agalore over Malcolm Butler,
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: Malcolm Butler Mac that corner of fade. Nicely done. Yeah,
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: I mean it's uh. I don't want to say they're
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: overboard with the celebrations, but I really like the the
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: overall energy, the support, you know, guys making plays, everybody
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: coming over, high fives, you know, I think it's just
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: something you hope where you see guys getting together in
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: the offseason, working together that you know, they're starting to
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: build some some chemistry, some camaraderie. I mean, I hope
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: they're hearing a lot of the narrative of you know,
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: that that they're not good enough and and you know,
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: hopefully that's motivating them as as a group to you know,
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: try to elevate everybody and get to the next I
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: thought it was interesting to hear Bill so positive yesterday.
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: I think that he probably feels like they need some
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: of this positivity they've heard. You know, they don't need
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: any of that other stuff they need. They need to
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: hear how good they are. And you know, I wonder
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: if maybe that was a an indication of him trying
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: to pump them up a little bit for sure. I mean,
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: I you know, it's one thing to you know, it's
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: your quarterback, and of course, but I do I agree
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: with you in terms of it just felt like Damian
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: Harris getting the crab pumped up a little bit. Dan
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: there's a little toss off walking, but but again, the
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: whole team coming over all the offense high and that
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: was a big one because the entire defense had to
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: do some push ups and it looks like they're all
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: you can finally work my running up that hill reference in.
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: But that's gonna do it for us here today. Great
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: first day as training camp. Definitely a little bit more
