- 0:20Speaker 1: Well, yeah, we're I'm Stephen Campbell.
- 0:22Speaker 2: This is Veronica Cable, where the lead guitarist and lead
- 0:26Speaker 2: bass player and singer of Avalanche.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Yeadful guys, thanks for join us and I good to
- 0:31Speaker 3: see you smile and faces once more.
- 0:33Speaker 4: Good thanks for having us my pleasures.
- 0:36Speaker 3: So we've got a hell of a lot to talk about,
- 0:38Speaker 3: but we'll start off with the new festival announced for
- 0:42Speaker 3: Brisbane next year, which is called Rock Is Not Dead.
- 0:45Speaker 4: So Avalanche has been announced as the headliners of that show.
- 0:48Speaker 3: It's going to be held at the Koala Tavern in
- 0:50Speaker 3: Capalaba on February.
- 0:53Speaker 4: So congratulations on being named headliners.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Gotta be a bit of an honor for years gets
- 0:58Speaker 3: done to get named as headliners. Yeah.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Absolutely, so exciting really, like, you know, we were chuffed
- 1:05Speaker 1: with it really.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Quen Zone has been really really cool tow Ice at
- 1:08Speaker 2: the moment, so we'll loven't it awesome?
- 1:12Speaker 5: They came all the way to Melbourne to see us twice. Kay, Wow,
- 1:15Speaker 5: they're awesome, So we're really keen to be doing this
- 1:18Speaker 5: festival with them. Should be a really big night.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:20Speaker 3: I was gonna actually mention that later on, but I
- 1:21Speaker 3: had lunch with Mark one of the organizers the other day,
- 1:24Speaker 3: and it's just his genuine love for music.
- 1:28Speaker 4: Is It's like they're putting this on for the right reasons.
- 1:30Speaker 3: It's not a cash grab, but it's not a look
- 1:32Speaker 3: at me, I'm putting on shows something.
- 1:34Speaker 4: It's because they genuinely love austraying music and they want
- 1:37Speaker 4: to promote it, which is great.
- 1:39Speaker 5: Yeah, yes, that's exactly why we're so excited about it.
- 1:42Speaker 1: So such a cool thing to see.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Yeah. But it also features an eclectic lineup of Snake,
- 1:49Speaker 3: White Whiskey. There's Tailor Made Rejects, Stone Rising, Black Whiskey, Slither, Goatzilla,
- 1:54Speaker 3: and Whiskey on the Rocks.
- 1:56Speaker 4: A lot of fucking whiskey there, guys.
- 1:59Speaker 5: We might have to their name to like Whiskey on
- 2:02Speaker 5: the Avalanche.
- 2:03Speaker 3: An avalanche of whiskey before.
- 2:11Speaker 6: Before I think we've kind of, you know, met or
- 2:15Speaker 6: briefly met most of them or come across them at
- 2:17Speaker 6: some point or another, but we haven't played with most
- 2:19Speaker 6: of them. So can meet them and play with them, yeah, yeah,
- 2:22Speaker 6: yeah yeah.
- 2:24Speaker 4: And the other.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Good thing about it too, aside from the fact that
- 2:28Speaker 3: it's been run for the right reasons, is it's all
- 2:30Speaker 3: going to be held on one stage, so there's no flashes,
- 2:33Speaker 3: no one can winge and bitch, and they're not getting
- 2:35Speaker 3: to see their favorite band. Like it's it's good to
- 2:37Speaker 3: see that sort of done, you know, like people try
- 2:39Speaker 3: and cram too much into one day these days, I find.
- 2:42Speaker 5: Yeah that's true.
- 2:44Speaker 2: No, yeah, it's going to be you know, all all
- 2:47Speaker 2: one hit and one big show.
- 2:51Speaker 4: How long has it been since you've halt? Like, I
- 2:52Speaker 4: know you've been in Queensland recently, but how long since
- 2:54Speaker 4: you played in Brisbane?
- 2:56Speaker 5: It's been a while since they've played in Brisbane.
- 2:58Speaker 6: Like, we just played the Early Beach Festival up in
- 3:00Speaker 6: Early Beach in north Over the weekend.
- 3:02Speaker 5: But it's been a while since we're in Brisbane.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Yeah, for the benefit of those up here that might
- 3:10Speaker 3: have forgot, because we drink a lot up here, so
- 3:12Speaker 3: our memories aren't that good.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Like what's what's a typical Avalanche live show?
- 3:16Speaker 6: Like, I guess you could say, blood, sweat and beers.
- 3:23Speaker 2: It's always a NonStop party from get go. You know,
- 3:26Speaker 2: we're a high energy pub rock band, so we love
- 3:29Speaker 2: to get people up and dancing and get people really drunk.
- 3:34Speaker 5: Lots of fun.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Yeah, speaking of all the above partying and dancing and
- 3:38Speaker 3: I'd getting drunk, like you guys did just play last
- 3:41Speaker 3: weekend at the Early Beach Festival of Music.
- 3:44Speaker 4: But I'd already know the answer because I've been here before.
- 3:46Speaker 4: But how was it?
- 3:48Speaker 1: It was insane?
- 3:50Speaker 2: You know, it was such a such a you know,
- 3:53Speaker 2: out of body experience really playing on that main stage
- 3:55Speaker 2: and just.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Like just seeing everyone out there and you know, were
- 4:00Speaker 1: on enjoying it.
- 4:01Speaker 2: But I think there was moments in between songs where
- 4:04Speaker 2: like I was trying to come out and say a
- 4:06Speaker 2: few things after the song and I had to sit
- 4:08Speaker 2: back just because everyone was screaming so much. It was
- 4:10Speaker 2: just like, this is awesome.
- 4:14Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it was definitely our biggest show.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:16Speaker 6: I think there was like about three other people in
- 4:18Speaker 6: the main tent and were playing in the main stage
- 4:20Speaker 6: because we ended up winning.
- 4:21Speaker 5: The band coomp last year.
- 4:25Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 4:25Speaker 5: Yeah, I think for sure that was like probably our
- 4:27Speaker 5: biggest show. That's fine.
- 4:28Speaker 2: It definitely felt like and it definitely felt like the
- 4:31Speaker 2: best performance too.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Like I don't know about you, but it was sure
- 4:34Speaker 1: something was in the end.
- 4:35Speaker 5: It was really cool that.
- 4:36Speaker 6: We got to turn our marshals all the way up
- 4:39Speaker 6: because the festival.
- 4:41Speaker 5: You can do that. I'm like, you know, the small,
- 4:43Speaker 5: smaller bars we tend to play.
- 4:44Speaker 3: So it's actually interesting to hear that you say that
- 4:48Speaker 3: it was probably one of your better shows because someone
- 4:51Speaker 3: planned the pub shows to plan a festival that in
- 4:54Speaker 3: front of three thousand people, and it had to be
- 4:58Speaker 3: it had to be.
- 4:59Speaker 4: I think, all right, I'll start that again.
- 5:02Speaker 3: So it's interesting to hear you say that it was
- 5:05Speaker 3: probably one of your better shows because you used to
- 5:06Speaker 3: playing smaller shows and go into something like that, like
- 5:10Speaker 3: the nerves would be like they'd be off the shane, like.
- 5:13Speaker 4: How do you how do you reel all that in?
- 5:14Speaker 3: You know, like and just sort of take a step
- 5:16Speaker 3: back and got we got.
- 5:18Speaker 2: This, Oh man, I tell you it was probably like
- 5:22Speaker 2: we put like since we won the competition, like we
- 5:25Speaker 2: probably put like a whole year's worth of work and
- 5:28Speaker 2: effort into this hole of one performance, you know, And
- 5:32Speaker 2: so it was really just like an amalgamation of months
- 5:35Speaker 2: and months of like you know, planning and what we're
- 5:38Speaker 2: thinking of doing and how we're going to do it,
- 5:40Speaker 2: and like the songs that we're going to play and
- 5:42Speaker 2: how we're going to play them, and you know, like
- 5:45Speaker 2: and then like we're at the end of.
- 5:48Speaker 1: The probably the fourth tool just this year, so.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Like you put all of those shows together and it
- 5:53Speaker 2: kind of just like you know, amalgamates into that one
- 5:57Speaker 2: big sort of performance.
- 5:58Speaker 1: And it was just that's that's it was magic.
- 6:03Speaker 6: I guess you had a lot of preparation and the
- 6:05Speaker 6: nervousness kind of turned into excitement at a certain point.
- 6:08Speaker 2: So the leading up to it though, that day was it.
- 6:11Speaker 5: Yeah, it hit that day I could take something a way.
- 6:16Speaker 6: It's like nervous and excitement and nervous and excitement and
- 6:18Speaker 6: by the time we're a stage, he should be alright.
- 6:22Speaker 3: How about some of the bigger, more established Australian bands,
- 6:25Speaker 3: I guess like did they did? They give you the
- 6:26Speaker 3: time of day, they take you under your wing and
- 6:28Speaker 3: sort of they make you feel.
- 6:30Speaker 5: Happen Yeah, oh yeah.
- 6:31Speaker 6: We met a few of them, but I think first
- 6:33Speaker 6: American Jebediah were like in the dressing room next door
- 6:35Speaker 6: to us, so we had brief exchanges with them and
- 6:40Speaker 6: Roase Tattoo we know those guys well, so we got
- 6:43Speaker 6: to hang backstage with them a little bit. Ryan our
- 6:45Speaker 6: drummer ryand a drum checking for their drummer and we
- 6:49Speaker 6: Angry and Mark and all those guys before. So they're
- 6:51Speaker 6: really nice guys and we may have some shows coming
- 6:53Speaker 6: up with them so too.
- 6:54Speaker 3: So yeah, yeah, very well and Bomb and not forgotten
- 6:57Speaker 3: her up there too, did Skinny and James Molly Bad himself.
- 7:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I think we've got to see them.
- 7:03Speaker 6: But we did drive past at one point as we
- 7:05Speaker 6: were getting to one of our other gigs.
- 7:07Speaker 1: And yeah he was from the table.
- 7:10Speaker 4: Was he was he played or was he just up
- 7:12Speaker 4: on the table?
- 7:13Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah he was.
- 7:22Speaker 4: Have also released your latest single, the Rock and His
- 7:25Speaker 4: Fuck Dad.
- 7:26Speaker 3: I joined a rock and roll band back in September
- 7:28Speaker 3: made So how's the reception been for it?
- 7:30Speaker 4: It's that bagging his fuck song.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Guys.
- 7:32Speaker 4: He done a really good job with it.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Oh, thank you so much.
- 7:35Speaker 5: Yeah, everyone really loves the title.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Yeah, it's definitely probably been one of the warmest receptions
- 7:42Speaker 2: this year because this is the third song that we've
- 7:44Speaker 2: released this year, and it's just felt like it's gotten
- 7:47Speaker 2: bigger and better every every time.
- 7:49Speaker 5: Yeah, it's definitely been like the fastest to get all
- 7:51Speaker 5: the stream Milestones and Spotify.
- 7:53Speaker 2: And it was so cool and like including our dads
- 7:57Speaker 2: in the music clip and.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Doing that whole thing because that is our actual dad's
- 8:02Speaker 1: in the music.
- 8:02Speaker 4: Clip the friends are on when they did the film
- 8:07Speaker 4: clip with all their dad, isn't it?
- 8:08Speaker 1: Yeah, Oh that actually funny you bring that up.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Oh, I had an interview with Lindsay on ABC a
- 8:13Speaker 2: couple of weeks ago, and yeah, he brought that up
- 8:16Speaker 2: to me as well.
- 8:16Speaker 1: And yeah, we had a good chat about that. That
- 8:18Speaker 1: was funny.
- 8:20Speaker 4: I was an interview with Lindsay.
- 8:21Speaker 3: I know, like there's an interview subjects a lot of fun,
- 8:23Speaker 3: but that was using an interviewer.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Yeah, No, it was awesome. Yeah.
- 8:28Speaker 2: I was really really happy that he then is to
- 8:31Speaker 2: get me on there and it gave me the time.
- 8:33Speaker 6: So we played with them at Early Beach last year
- 8:36Speaker 6: when we were doing the Bank, but they got kicked
- 8:38Speaker 6: out of their accommodation and then came to our accommodation
- 8:40Speaker 6: and then got kicked out of that accommodation.
- 8:43Speaker 4: Just from partying to do that sounds either friends are
- 8:49Speaker 4: on my name?
- 8:53Speaker 3: So is dad I joined a rock and roll band?
- 8:55Speaker 3: A standalone single or is it part of a bigger picture?
- 8:58Speaker 5: Yeah, it's actually part of an e.
- 9:00Speaker 6: It's a little single compilation EP we've done just of
- 9:03Speaker 6: all the singles we've released this year and one from
- 9:05Speaker 6: last year as well.
- 9:06Speaker 5: We do have an album definitely coming next year.
- 9:09Speaker 6: We just kind of put this together sort of tie
- 9:11Speaker 6: people over until that until then.
- 9:12Speaker 2: So yeah, keeping might have a few special surprises and
- 9:16Speaker 2: coming as well. It might not be included on the album,
- 9:19Speaker 2: but we will still be doing it very soon as well.
- 9:23Speaker 3: When you're right there, like you says Dad, I joined
- 9:25Speaker 3: a rock and roll band, sort of the style of
- 9:27Speaker 3: music that's going to be on the album or is
- 9:28Speaker 3: it going to be a bit of a variant.
- 9:31Speaker 5: Yeah, yes, I guess I'm just about everything we've released
- 9:34Speaker 5: this year, the last two years.
- 9:35Speaker 6: Really, you know, you put all of that, all of
- 9:37Speaker 6: them together, and I'd say that's a pretty good idea
- 9:40Speaker 6: of what the album's going to sound like.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's almost one of that. I'd say one
- 9:44Speaker 2: of the reasons the EP. We wanted to do the
- 9:46Speaker 2: EP as well, to give my people a taste of
- 9:49Speaker 2: the album because they were all pretty pretty similar in
- 9:52Speaker 2: the genre and sound and you know, recording wise and
- 9:56Speaker 2: all that. Yeah, we did all at the same studio
- 9:58Speaker 2: as well, so.
- 10:00Speaker 4: And I believe you're also planning a return trip to
- 10:03Speaker 4: Japan for next year.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Yes, yes, that's right.
- 10:06Speaker 7: That was.
- 10:06Speaker 5: Yeah, one of my favorite tours that we've done so much.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Yeah, the Japan's Hall was just absolute insanity really, like
- 10:12Speaker 2: from the start to finishing.
- 10:13Speaker 6: The music scene is so strong. They're live music every
- 10:16Speaker 6: night of the week. Every band is like just as
- 10:19Speaker 6: good as the last.
- 10:20Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 10:21Speaker 3: There probably like the tool manager for about about ten
- 10:24Speaker 3: bands now, so I would have seen probably over one
- 10:25Speaker 3: hundred local Japanese bands and ninety five of them mud
- 10:28Speaker 3: pay to Sy again, Like they're just so fucking no
- 10:33Speaker 3: matter what, they're just so good.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Yeah, the musicianship was it was next level though we
- 10:38Speaker 2: didn't honestly, we didn't play with a band band at all.
- 10:41Speaker 6: Yeah, get in Gems as well, Like one of the
- 10:43Speaker 6: bands that opened for us, where these this girl band
- 10:46Speaker 6: has been around like twenty years that had members in
- 10:48Speaker 6: the five, six, seven, eight from Kill.
- 10:49Speaker 5: Bill Ow they open.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Twice.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Yeah, and it is such a humbling place to win
- 11:08Speaker 3: it Like it's just it's the people ask me about
- 11:12Speaker 3: and I just say, it makes you want to be
- 11:14Speaker 3: a better person in.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Yeah, man, like just the respectful nature of the culture
- 11:20Speaker 2: and you know, just the way people sort of you know,
- 11:23Speaker 2: carry themselves like it's yeah, it's just super super commendable,
- 11:26Speaker 2: like it's.
- 11:27Speaker 5: Something like passionate.
- 11:28Speaker 6: They are like everyone from you know, the Venues, the Foundies,
- 11:31Speaker 6: the Punters, like everyone.
- 11:32Speaker 2: And just how happy everyone is to wait for stuff,
- 11:35Speaker 2: like I thought was just crazy to me because you know,
- 11:37Speaker 2: as Australians we kind of hate waiting for things.
- 11:44Speaker 4: And let's slip something about roast before.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Was that was that a slip of the tongue or
- 11:48Speaker 3: can you can you tell us something about it?
- 11:50Speaker 5: I don't know if we can reveal exactly, but we
- 11:52Speaker 5: should have some some dates coming up with them.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Yeah, well Glen in a pretty big tour very early
- 11:57Speaker 2: next year, the sort of before the Japan tour, so
- 12:00Speaker 2: to try and hit as many sort of Australian things
- 12:02Speaker 2: as we can sort of Australian dates as we as
- 12:05Speaker 2: we can hit, sorry, and hopefully try and get on
- 12:09Speaker 2: some pretty good supports for that toy as well.
- 12:12Speaker 4: Very good. So back to the Rocky is Not Dead festival, guys.
- 12:15Speaker 3: I think about festivals is people go along to them
- 12:18Speaker 3: and they they might not know every band on the bill,
- 12:20Speaker 3: so just say someone's come along that isn't familiar with Avalanche.
- 12:24Speaker 3: What three of your songs should they listen to before
- 12:26Speaker 3: they come give them an idea of what to expect.
- 12:29Speaker 5: Well, probably the new one Data joined the rock at bad.
- 12:31Speaker 5: I think the teeth as well. It's probably are the biggest.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Kind of sort of thing carries.
- 12:37Speaker 5: Yeah, definitely, maybe Bottle of Sin. That's just a real
- 12:41Speaker 5: party drinking kind of song.
- 12:43Speaker 2: And if anything, that kind of encapsulates that the past
- 12:45Speaker 2: three years for us, like writing wise and also recording
- 12:48Speaker 2: and everything.
- 12:51Speaker 3: All right, very sweet and tickets for Rockies Not Dead
- 12:54Speaker 3: are available now from oz Tichs. There are only thirty
- 12:57Speaker 3: five bucks pre sale, which is bloody or to less
- 13:00Speaker 3: than six bucks a band, So suggest you get yourself
- 13:03Speaker 3: Alongsio with the quila. Sabin doesn't have music very often,
- 13:05Speaker 3: but I'll have just around the corner from her. She's
- 13:07Speaker 3: a fucking good pub guy, so I'll definitely be And
- 13:09Speaker 3: they're having a sinking a few cold ones with you.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Oh man, it's gonna be awesome. I can't wait for it.
- 14:01Speaker 7: T think about this. Streaks stand continue and tell the side.
- 14:17Speaker 8: Tell me do you want.
- 14:26Speaker 7: To boun.
- 14:33Speaker 8: Burning the.
- 14:38Speaker 7: Ball, running the gas on the batter step your what
- 15:00Speaker 7: thou what tab.
- 15:02Speaker 8: Do then, that would.
- 15:07Speaker 7: Not the stage stop the fact slowly the PSI.
- 15:16Speaker 8: Jun don't in the bout to the examine, bout to
- 15:30Speaker 8: bid to.
- 15:37Speaker 7: What you say, b.
- 16:18Speaker 9: B the tease for chaffing feis under the cheese for
- 16:23Speaker 9: Shaffer cheese. Bundle the cheese for schaffles under the tea.
- 16:32Speaker 8: You want what you said
