- 0:02Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:05Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:09Speaker 1: Amy Torber and coming up on today's show, Australian influencers
- 0:13Speaker 1: on a brand trip to Uluru have been accused of
- 0:15Speaker 1: disrespecting Indigenous sites. Chrissy Teigen resurrects Meghan Markle's disastrous second
- 0:21Speaker 1: season launch and Tammy Hembrough and Bailey Smith make it
- 0:25Speaker 1: Instagram official. But first, Kate, a lot of our listeners
- 0:28Speaker 1: have been joking that Laura Henshaw has put a curse
- 0:30Speaker 1: on you.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Look, I think she's too much of a nice person
- 0:33Speaker 2: to do that. I think I've brought karma on myself
- 0:35Speaker 2: because in our subs episode, we spoke about how terrible
- 0:39Speaker 2: and raspy her voice was because the poor thing was
- 0:42Speaker 2: sick as a dog. I'm not really that sick. I
- 0:44Speaker 2: just sound terrible. Rhys thinks I've got laryngitis.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Yes, and you refused to miss out on being on
- 0:49Speaker 1: the podcast. Sophie said she was going to sub herself in,
- 0:51Speaker 1: but you've insisted that you're going to push through.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Well, there's some great topics to speak about this week,
- 0:56Speaker 2: so I'm sorry that you have to listen to my
- 0:58Speaker 2: very annoying voice. So April 14th, May, wait, is that
- 1:03Speaker 2: 16 or 18? Oh, no.
- 1:04Speaker 3: John.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Is it Miles?
- 1:08Speaker 2: It's May.
- 1:10Speaker 1: May 16th. Chrissy Teigen has revealed she had to get
- 1:14Speaker 1: a tattoo of her kids' birthdays so she can remember them.
- 1:17Speaker 1: The admission came after she appeared as a guest on
- 1:20Speaker 1: the second series of Meghan Markle's Netflix show, We Love Meghan.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I feel like this was a real highlight for the
- 1:26Speaker 2: show because we are fans of Meghan. And I don't
- 1:29Speaker 2: like to bag her show out because I thoroughly enjoy it,
- 1:32Speaker 2: but it seems to have bombed in the ratings. It
- 1:34Speaker 2: wasn't even in the top Netflix shows to watch.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Well, when we were chatting about the show earlier today, Kate,
- 1:38Speaker 1: you said that it's a great show to have on
- 1:40Speaker 1: in the background to fall asleep to.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Oh, my God. I had the best sleep on Friday
- 1:45Speaker 2: night in front of this show. I got my Squishmallow
- 1:47Speaker 2: and a blanket on the couch. I was out for hours.
- 1:50Speaker 2: It was delightful. It kind of reminds me because I
- 1:52Speaker 2: used to love falling asleep in front of, like, Nigella Lawson,
- 1:55Speaker 2: and that's no disrespect to her show. It's about the
- 1:57Speaker 2: atmosphere that it creates.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know if that's the intention of We'd
- 2:00Speaker 1: Love Megan for you to fall asleep in front of it.
- 2:02Speaker 2: No.
- 2:02Speaker 1: But I know what you mean. It's just that wholesome,
- 2:05Speaker 1: like you can have it on in the background and
- 2:07Speaker 1: be doing something else.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I also did a puzzle on Saturday night. I mean,
- 2:11Speaker 2: the wild weekend that I had.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Gosh, you really are the target market for this show.
- 2:15Speaker 2: But I think this season they've actually had a lot
- 2:17Speaker 2: better guests. So they had like Jay Shetty, they had
- 2:19Speaker 2: Chrissy Teigen. There were a few that they could have
- 2:22Speaker 2: done without. Like there was this boring old guy at
- 2:24Speaker 2: the end that I had no idea what he was
- 2:25Speaker 2: on about.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Do you notice they actually highlighted some of Megan's mistakes
- 2:29Speaker 1: throughout the show? When they were doing the flower arranging,
- 2:33Speaker 1: she poured water into the vessels and all of the
- 2:35Speaker 1: water flooded the table. And there was another time when
- 2:37Speaker 1: she was making some kind of like fruit roll up
- 2:40Speaker 1: and she couldn't sieve it through. Or were you asleep then?
- 2:42Speaker 2: I actually don't recall the second one. But the weirdest
- 2:46Speaker 2: thing for me is that every time she introduces this
- 2:49Speaker 2: new craft, she's like, oh, We're going to be making soap.
- 2:52Speaker 2: And then she admits it's the first time that she's
- 2:53Speaker 2: ever done it. It's like, well, it's obvious that you've
- 2:55Speaker 2: just been told that you have to do it.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Well, she's a princess. She's hardly making her own soap.
- 2:59Speaker 2: What about when she was making the silk scarves and
- 3:01Speaker 2: she just was like so impressed with everything that she did?
- 3:03Speaker 2: She's like, yeah, they're going to like this. Because she knows.
- 3:06Speaker 1: That most normal people, like if you were given a
- 3:08Speaker 1: gift from Meghan Markle that was handmade, how much would
- 3:11Speaker 1: you treasure that? Even if it was just some like
- 3:13Speaker 1: piece of crap.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I love her line is not too shabby. Like
- 3:17Speaker 2: that's not too shabby.
- 3:18Speaker 1: I love it because every time she gets a compliment,
- 3:21Speaker 1: she's so self-assured. She's like, I know, like, yeah, it
- 3:24Speaker 1: is really great.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Or sometimes she hands out the compliment before people have
- 3:27Speaker 2: even had a chance to. In terms of Chrissy Teigen
- 3:30Speaker 2: forgetting her kid's birthdays, this came up when Meghan suggested
- 3:33Speaker 2: that they should make pressed flower jewellery. And she said
- 3:36Speaker 2: that they should use flowers from their children's birth month.
- 3:40Speaker 2: And it sent Chrissy into a bit of a panic
- 3:41Speaker 2: because she's like, oh, hang on. I actually don't know
- 3:43Speaker 2: my kids' birthdays. She then remembered that she has a
- 3:45Speaker 2: tattoo on her arm that lists them all. However, she
- 3:48Speaker 2: needed Megan's help deciphering it because One of the tattoos
- 3:52Speaker 2: was a little bit blurred. She couldn't tell if her
- 3:53Speaker 2: son's birthday was on the 16th or the 18th of May.
- 3:55Speaker 1: But the birthdays were in Roman numerals. So she had
- 3:58Speaker 1: to call out for her husband to try and tell
- 3:59Speaker 1: what Roman numeral it was. That was where the confusion was.
- 4:02Speaker 2: See, I forced Rhys to watch Meghan's show with me.
- 4:05Speaker 2: And he said, God, you can see how powerful Meghan
- 4:07Speaker 2: Markle is that she's got John Legend waiting for his
- 4:09Speaker 2: wife in the room next door.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Although she was like, oh, sorry, had I known I
- 4:13Speaker 1: would have got age here to hang out with you.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Talking about age, Meghan dropped that she had hats made
- 4:17Speaker 2: for Prince Harry's 40th. So they gave them to all
- 4:20Speaker 2: of his friends that attended the party and printed on
- 4:23Speaker 2: the hat was PH40.
- 4:26Speaker 3: What?
- 4:27Speaker 1: Prince Harry?
- 4:27Speaker 2: Yeah. So that means his friends call him Prince Harry.
- 4:30Speaker 1: When I hear the word PH, I just think of
- 4:32Speaker 1: like the acidity levels. Wouldn't you feel like a bit
- 4:34Speaker 1: of a wanker walking around with a hat that said
- 4:36Speaker 1: Prince Harry on it?
- 4:37Speaker 2: I wonder if she has one that says DOS, Duchess
- 4:40Speaker 2: of Sausage. I was really surprised to hear Chrissy and
- 4:44Speaker 2: Megan talk about deal or no deal because That's how
- 4:47Speaker 2: they actually met, being briefcase girls on that show. I
- 4:50Speaker 2: thought Meghan might have tried to hide that a little bit.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Why did I just get in my head when you
- 4:53Speaker 1: said that briefcase wanker from Inbetweeners? Well, I thought it
- 4:57Speaker 1: was kind of good that Meghan touched on it because
- 4:58Speaker 1: everyone's been talking about it behind her back. Like every
- 5:01Speaker 1: meme of Meghan Markle is her opening the briefcase.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Uh, dress with me.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Tammy Hembrough and Bailey Smith made it Instagram official on
- 5:09Speaker 1: Friday night, just three weeks after they were busted on
- 5:12Speaker 1: a date on the Gold Coast. The pair confirmed their
- 5:15Speaker 1: romance by sharing an intimate look at their date night.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Tammy posted a photo of Bailey's hand on her leg
- 5:21Speaker 1: as they dined at an exclusive restaurant in Melbourne. The
- 5:24Speaker 1: hard launch has added further fuel to speculation that Tammy
- 5:27Speaker 1: will be walking the red carpet at the Brownlow.
- 5:30Speaker 2: My jaw hit the floor when I saw Tammy's story.
- 5:33Speaker 2: As I mentioned in the Meghan topic, I was a
- 5:35Speaker 2: comatose on the couch in front of that show. And
- 5:37Speaker 2: when I saw the initial snap of the fancy restaurant
- 5:40Speaker 2: go up, I studied it very closely and I couldn't
- 5:43Speaker 2: see any distinguishing features of who she was actually dining with.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Even though it was so obvious it was him.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Well, she's been in Melbourne with her sister. So I
- 5:50Speaker 2: thought maybe it's her sister. Maybe she's just teasing us.
- 5:53Speaker 1: She just so happens to be in Melbourne now every weekend.
- 5:55Speaker 1: I mean, she's been in Melbourne more times than she
- 5:57Speaker 1: was when she was dating Matt.
- 5:58Speaker 2: And Melbourne, of course, is his hometown. Thankfully, Tammy didn't
- 6:01Speaker 2: keep us guessing for too long because two hours later,
- 6:04Speaker 2: she shared an updated photo from the table. This time
- 6:07Speaker 2: with the visible hand on her leg. Bailey then kindly
- 6:10Speaker 2: reshared the photo to take any guesswork out of it.
- 6:13Speaker 2: It's funny because it seemed like some people were confused
- 6:15Speaker 2: in Tammy's comments because she ended up posting photos of
- 6:18Speaker 2: her in that pink dress that she wore on the date.
- 6:21Speaker 2: And people were like, oh, were you out with Matt?
- 6:22Speaker 2: Is it back on? Oh, what? It's like, keep up, people.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Read the Daily Mail, for goodness sake. I love how
- 6:28Speaker 1: it was almost like Tammy was trying to soft launch
- 6:29Speaker 1: this relationship by sharing the stock standard, you know, man's
- 6:33Speaker 1: hand in the photo. Yeah, they'd been kissing in front
- 6:36Speaker 1: of all these diners at a restaurant a few weeks ago.
- 6:39Speaker 1: They've been papped out together.
- 6:40Speaker 2: I was wondering how many wines deep they were when
- 6:42Speaker 2: they shared the photo. But when I had a closer look,
- 6:44Speaker 2: Tammy was the only one drinking. She had a glass
- 6:46Speaker 2: of wine in front of her. But Bailey was visibly
- 6:49Speaker 2: double parked on two soft drinks. He is in the
- 6:52Speaker 2: midst of preparing for a finals campaign with Geelong Football Club.
- 6:55Speaker 2: He had the weekend off before his team takes on
- 6:57Speaker 2: Brisbane at the MCG on Friday night. I have a
- 7:00Speaker 2: feeling Tammy will be there.
- 7:01Speaker 1: I can't imagine Geelong's coach would be thrilled about this
- 7:04Speaker 1: whole relationship.
- 7:05Speaker 2: No, or their supporters if they bomb out of the finals.
- 7:07Speaker 1: It's giving Victoria Beckham vibes when Becks was playing in
- 7:10Speaker 1: a lot of the finals and the coach was just like,
- 7:12Speaker 1: for fuck's sake, why is she down at the game?
- 7:14Speaker 1: It's so distracting.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Yeah, if Geelong are out of the finals, all the
- 7:17Speaker 2: supporters are going to play Tammy, aren't they?
- 7:19Speaker 1: Yes. Now, this date came just 24 hours after Bailey
- 7:22Speaker 1: made headlines at the AFL Awards. It's funny because I
- 7:25Speaker 1: was out on Thursday night with my best friend and
- 7:27Speaker 1: also Soph. And the TV was on. And Sophie and
- 7:31Speaker 1: our friend Owen was like, oh, is that the Brownlow medal? Like,
- 7:34Speaker 1: is Tammy out there? I'm like, no, the Brownlow medal
- 7:36Speaker 1: is right before the grand final. We haven't even started
- 7:38Speaker 1: finals yet.
- 7:39Speaker 2: I thought you were going to say, look, it's Tammy
- 7:40Speaker 2: Hambro's boyfriend on the TV.
- 7:43Speaker 1: But on a more serious note, Bailey bravely spoke about
- 7:46Speaker 1: his mental health battles. And this is while he was
- 7:48Speaker 1: accepting his All-Australian blazer. Let's take a listen to what
- 7:51Speaker 1: he said.
- 7:52Speaker 4: It was about a year ago. I got out of
- 7:55Speaker 4: a psych ward. I was in Epworth, Camberwell for like
- 7:57Speaker 4: four weeks and I got like a couple hours out
- 8:00Speaker 4: a day and I spent that sort of training and
- 8:03Speaker 4: I went through a really dark time and yeah I
- 8:06Speaker 4: didn't think I'd get to I suppose the other side
- 8:08Speaker 4: I know it's just an injury but until you sort
- 8:10Speaker 4: of experience it and have a sense of identity sort
- 8:12Speaker 4: of taken away from you and then sort of go
- 8:14Speaker 4: through you know some teething issues with I don't know
- 8:18Speaker 4: moving clubs and I don't know outside noise and still
- 8:22Speaker 4: trying to just grow up and yeah rehab a knee So, yeah,
- 8:26Speaker 4: I'm super grateful to be, you know, on the other
- 8:29Speaker 4: side of it.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I was absolutely blown away by what he said. It
- 8:32Speaker 2: was incredibly powerful and I think it will help so
- 8:35Speaker 2: many young men out there. I've personally lost a friend
- 8:38Speaker 2: to suicide and he used to play AFL and I
- 8:40Speaker 2: got goosebumps listening to it because it's this type of
- 8:43Speaker 2: honesty and bravery we need. So thank you to Bailey
- 8:46Speaker 2: for sharing this because I think it will save lives.
- 8:49Speaker 1: I agree. His speech was so strong and I think
- 8:51Speaker 1: it was even more powerful because we don't normally see
- 8:55Speaker 1: men Bailey's age or even older men talking about their
- 8:58Speaker 1: emotions like that. And I think it will open the
- 9:01Speaker 1: floodgate for other men out there to have some serious conversations.
- 9:05Speaker 2: I haven't followed Bailey's career too closely, but I've heard
- 9:08Speaker 2: he's this breath of fresh air in the AFL and
- 9:11Speaker 2: he's used to having these sorts of candid conversations. And
- 9:14Speaker 2: on Friday night, I totally understood why he is this
- 9:17Speaker 2: Gen Z pinup because away from his obvious good looks,
- 9:20Speaker 2: he also speaks about these really important topics. Yeah. And
- 9:23Speaker 2: I can understand why Tammy Hembrough is so smitten. And
- 9:25Speaker 2: she gave us an insight into exactly how she was
- 9:27Speaker 2: feeling before her date. So she filmed a fit check
- 9:31Speaker 2: along with a miming session, as she does. So she
- 9:35Speaker 2: was dressed in this slinky pink dress and mimed to
- 9:38Speaker 2: Olivia Dean's song, Man I Need. If the title doesn't
- 9:41Speaker 2: give it away, the song is all about knowing how
- 9:44Speaker 2: you deserve to be loved and not being afraid to
- 9:46Speaker 2: ask for it.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Now, Tammy specifically mimed to the lyrics, already gave you
- 9:51Speaker 1: the time and the place. So don't be shy. Just
- 9:53Speaker 1: come be the man I need. Tell me you got
- 9:55Speaker 1: something to give. I want it.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Tammy keeps telling us everything we need to know. one
- 10:00Speaker 2: song at a time. I'm very grateful for that insight.
- 10:03Speaker 2: And it seems like the date went really well because
- 10:06Speaker 2: Influencer Updates AU was reporting that Tammy's Instagram story of
- 10:09Speaker 2: a kangaroo hopping around the next morning was taking in belbray.
- 10:14Speaker 2: which is where Bailey is from. So obviously visiting the family.
- 10:17Speaker 3: Wow.
- 10:18Speaker 1: I wonder what the family think about it. I saw
- 10:20Speaker 1: this funny video pop up the other day and it
- 10:22Speaker 1: was this boomer dad talking to his daughter. And he
- 10:25Speaker 1: knew all the goss about Bailey Smith and Tammy Hembrough.
- 10:28Speaker 1: He didn't quite know Matt Zukowski by name, but he's like, oh,
- 10:31Speaker 1: that's that girl that recently got a divorce. And it's
- 10:33Speaker 1: just so funny hearing boomers now talking about Tammy Hembrough.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Oh, worlds are colliding here.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Is the AFL suddenly going to experience the Taylor Swift effect?
- 10:42Speaker 1: Are all these new people going to be tuning into
- 10:44Speaker 1: the footy just to spot Tammy there?
- 10:45Speaker 2: Well, to be honest, I've always grown up loving the football,
- 10:48Speaker 2: but in my mid-20s, that interest kind of waned. And
- 10:51Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, I actually want to see if she's
- 10:52Speaker 2: there on the sidelines. Now, one media publication whose interest
- 10:56Speaker 2: has dramatically increased in Tammy Hembrough is The Herald Sun.
- 11:00Speaker 2: And we spoke on Friday about how she had told
- 11:02Speaker 2: The Herald Sun that she was in Melbourne for work
- 11:04Speaker 2: and play. And she wasn't wrong. She's been very busy
- 11:07Speaker 2: on both fronts. So on Thursday night, she attended a
- 11:10Speaker 2: fashion event where she told media that Bailey was a
- 11:12Speaker 2: sweetie and a nice guy. And the following day, she
- 11:15Speaker 2: was at the Chemist Warehouse 2025 Brand Showcase, where she
- 11:19Speaker 2: was promoting her selfish supplements range.
- 11:22Speaker 1: This Chemist Warehouse event was all over my Instagram page.
- 11:25Speaker 1: It looked like an incredible event, but what really caught
- 11:27Speaker 1: my eye was the fact that not only was Tammy there,
- 11:30Speaker 1: but so was Matt Zukowski.
- 11:32Speaker 2: There were so many influences there and from so many
- 11:35Speaker 2: different areas. You had like your reality TV stars, your
- 11:37Speaker 2: AFL players.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Media personalities.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. But I didn't expect to see Matt Sikowsky
- 11:43Speaker 2: there because it was heavily promoted that Tammy's supplement range
- 11:46Speaker 2: was going to have an activation there. It turns out
- 11:48Speaker 2: that their appearance is were coordinated to avoid any awkward run-ins.
- 11:52Speaker 2: So Matt attended the morning session and left by 11.30
- 11:56Speaker 2: and Tammy was at the afternoon session.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I don't blame Matt for leaving before Tammy got there
- 12:00Speaker 1: because her sister Amy was also there. That would have
- 12:04Speaker 1: been super awkward. Yeah. I mean, if I was Matt,
- 12:07Speaker 1: I probably wouldn't have shown up at all.
- 12:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 12:09Speaker 2: It was pretty interesting because he was seen hanging out
- 12:11Speaker 2: with former AFL footballer and Big Brother contestant Dan Gorringe.
- 12:15Speaker 2: And we recently spoke about Dan on Outspoken because He
- 12:18Speaker 2: was the one that created that viral video where he
- 12:20Speaker 2: dissected the serving of gravy in that photo of Tammy
- 12:24Speaker 2: and Bailey making out at a restaurant.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like Dan would have a lot to
- 12:28Speaker 1: say about this relationship with Tammy and Bailey. Now, on
- 12:32Speaker 1: the topic of viral videos, we need to talk about
- 12:35Speaker 1: Paul Aleema's video, Poking Fun at Tammy Hembrough. Now, it
- 12:39Speaker 1: really divided opinions in the Outspoken Facebook community and we
- 12:42Speaker 1: ended up having to delete it because it got reported
- 12:44Speaker 1: a number of times. So for those not familiar with
- 12:48Speaker 1: Paul Alema, he is better known by his handle Alema Amiga.
- 12:52Speaker 1: So he's a former Irish soccer player who creates these skits,
- 12:55Speaker 1: mainly poking fun at influencers as well as content on TikTok.
- 13:00Speaker 1: And he recently cracked the 3 million follower count on Instagram.
- 13:04Speaker 1: And he's got a similar audience on TikTok. I'd say
- 13:08Speaker 1: his skits have a Celeste Barber kind of vibe because
- 13:11Speaker 1: he often imitates something he's seen on social media. There
- 13:13Speaker 1: was a hilarious one he did on Meghan Markle, you know,
- 13:16Speaker 1: that podcast she was on?
- 13:18Speaker 3: Yet, yet.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Anyway, so he often takes podcast clips and then he'll
- 13:23Speaker 1: pretend he's in the editing studio listening back to them.
- 13:26Speaker 1: It's absolutely hilarious.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Yeah, and he used a similar formula for the Tammy
- 13:29Speaker 2: parody on Friday. So he captioned the video, collecting online
- 13:32Speaker 2: sympathy since 2017. and opened the video by sharing a
- 13:36Speaker 2: snippet from Tammy's recent crying videos. For those who missed it,
- 13:40Speaker 2: a couple of weeks ago, Tammy shared a montage of
- 13:42Speaker 2: videos of her crying during her marriage to Matt Sikowsky.
- 13:45Speaker 2: So after Aleema shared the clips of Tammy crying, the
- 13:48Speaker 2: video cut to him pretending to be Tammy setting up
- 13:51Speaker 2: the crying shots.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Yes, so he showed himself sitting on the toilet, fake
- 13:55Speaker 1: crying in front of a camera, which was set up
- 13:57Speaker 1: on a tripod. There was another shot of him in
- 13:59Speaker 1: the car and he asks a friend to pass him
- 14:01Speaker 1: this full-on professional lighting and he starts fake crying into
- 14:05Speaker 1: the camera.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Yeah, there was also this one of him filming his
- 14:07Speaker 2: own hand shaking and he was asked an assistant if
- 14:10Speaker 2: he got the shot. There was also this clip at
- 14:12Speaker 2: the end in the editing suite. Let's throw to what
- 14:14Speaker 2: he said. Yeah, I mean, I think this video should
- 14:16Speaker 2: go second. Yeah. Yeah, and then maybe, do you have
- 14:21Speaker 2: any music that we could use?
- 14:22Speaker 1: I've got this one here.
- 14:23Speaker 4: This here?
- 14:24Speaker 2: Yeah, this one.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Sad enough?
- 14:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Look, this might be an unpopular opinion, but I laughed
- 14:33Speaker 1: when I saw this video and I actually thought it
- 14:34Speaker 1: was hilarious.
- 14:36Speaker 2: I have to agree with you, Amy. I laughed out
- 14:38Speaker 2: loud when I watched the video and I was a
- 14:40Speaker 2: bit surprised by the feedback in our Facebook group because
- 14:43Speaker 2: I got tagged by people saying, oh my God, can
- 14:45Speaker 2: you delete this? It's so offensive. And I get where
- 14:47Speaker 2: people were coming from because it does seem mean to
- 14:50Speaker 2: pay Tammy out when she was sharing her true feelings
- 14:53Speaker 2: about a difficult situation. But again, when we discuss this
- 14:56Speaker 2: on the show, I did find it odd that she
- 14:59Speaker 2: had time to set up a camera. She did explain
- 15:01Speaker 2: she was actually filming voice messages to her sisters and
- 15:04Speaker 2: that's how she managed to organically capture these shots. But
- 15:07Speaker 2: I think it's more commentary on influencers in general.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, when I saw the video, I thought,
- 15:12Speaker 1: do you know what? He could have actually just made
- 15:14Speaker 1: the video and not shown the clips of Tammy at
- 15:16Speaker 1: the start crying. Like he could have guessed who it was. Yeah,
- 15:19Speaker 1: but that's his style. He could have like poked fun
- 15:21Speaker 1: at influencers generally filming themselves crying. But I almost feel
- 15:26Speaker 1: like because Tammy has now moved on with Bailey Smith,
- 15:30Speaker 1: it almost makes it funnier because she's probably laughing at herself.
- 15:35Speaker 1: I can imagine Tammy sitting down with her sisters and
- 15:37Speaker 1: having a bit of a giggle at that. I don't
- 15:39Speaker 1: actually think it was meant to be really, really mean.
- 15:42Speaker 1: It's just meant to be sort of a laugh, as
- 15:44Speaker 1: you said, about how crazy it seems for normal people
- 15:47Speaker 1: to see influencers filming themselves like that crying.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it's more commentary on influencer culture in general. I
- 15:53Speaker 2: want to know how you feel though, Amy, about the
- 15:55Speaker 2: fact that it's come out that Tammy's ex-husband, Matt Sikowski,
- 16:00Speaker 2: liked the video alongside her ex-fiance, Matt Poole, and his
- 16:03Speaker 2: new partner, Annalise.
- 16:05Speaker 1: See, even though I find the video funny, I feel
- 16:07Speaker 1: like it was a bit of a dog move for
- 16:08Speaker 1: them all to like it.
- 16:09Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a big statement from those three. I think
- 16:11Speaker 2: it's in pretty bad taste to publicly like the video. Like,
- 16:15Speaker 2: Go and send it in your group chats. Have a
- 16:16Speaker 2: laugh about it.
- 16:17Speaker 1: I can understand why Matt Zukowski's liked it because he's
- 16:20Speaker 1: hurt over the Bailey Smith thing. But for Matt Poole
- 16:23Speaker 1: and Annalise, I found that surprising because from an outsider
- 16:28Speaker 1: looking in, they seem to be getting on well doing
- 16:30Speaker 1: the co-parenting stuff and that casts a shadow of doubt
- 16:34Speaker 1: on that friendly relationship that we're meant to think that
- 16:36Speaker 1: they have because you think, oh, wow, actually, do they
- 16:39Speaker 1: all hate each other?
- 16:40Speaker 2: Particularly when Tammy has gone out of her way to
- 16:42Speaker 2: be respectful to Matt Poole.
- 16:43Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 16:44Speaker 1: They're almost implying she's the problem. Yeah, that's what they're
- 16:47Speaker 1: trying to say. Like when you see all the people
- 16:48Speaker 1: liking it that are, you know, former partners of her,
- 16:51Speaker 1: you're like.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Oh, okay. I also noticed that Bailey Scarlett, who used
- 16:54Speaker 2: to date Rhys Hawkins, liked it too. So it seemed
- 16:56Speaker 2: like this opportunity for everyone that might have a bit
- 16:59Speaker 2: of beef with Tammy to get behind the video.
- 17:01Speaker 3: So right now I am in Uluru, which I know
- 17:05Speaker 3: a lot of you would have seen. There is quite
- 17:06Speaker 3: a lot of social media discussion there.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Australian influencers on a brand trip to Uluru have been
- 17:12Speaker 1: accused of disrespecting sacred Indigenous sites. The influencers defended their
- 17:17Speaker 1: social media posts, saying they were adhering to the trip
- 17:20Speaker 1: organiser's strict content approval process. Now, Uluru is a sacred
- 17:24Speaker 1: place of deep cultural and spiritual significance to the Arangal people,
- 17:28Speaker 1: who are its traditional custodians. It is a place on
- 17:31Speaker 1: many people's bucket lists, and it's not the first time
- 17:34Speaker 1: the location has been showcased on a brand trip. Now, Kate,
- 17:37Speaker 1: can you explain to us who the organisers behind this
- 17:40Speaker 1: trip are?
- 17:40Speaker 2: Well, there's been a bit of confusion about who hosted
- 17:43Speaker 2: this influencer trip because the influencers keep tagging the handle
- 17:46Speaker 2: Explore Uluru on social media. So Explore Uluru is the
- 17:50Speaker 2: social media alias for the Ayers Rock Resort, which is
- 17:53Speaker 2: a tourism precinct at Yulara. It's made up of a
- 17:56Speaker 2: collection of hotels, campgrounds, airports, shops and supporting infrastructure near Uluru. Now,
- 18:02Speaker 2: the tourism precinct is owned by the Indigenous Land and
- 18:05Speaker 2: Sea Corporation, which is an Australian government body that helps
- 18:08Speaker 2: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples acquire and manage land
- 18:12Speaker 2: and water rights so that they can achieve economic, social,
- 18:15Speaker 2: cultural and environmental benefits. And the day-to-day operations of the
- 18:19Speaker 2: resort are managed by Voyage's Indigenous Tourism Australia.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Now, in terms of how the resort makes money... It's
- 18:25Speaker 1: run as a commercial tourism business, not a government funded hotel. However,
- 18:30Speaker 1: its ownership and financial backing ultimately comes from an Australian
- 18:33Speaker 1: government established body, which is the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation.
- 18:38Speaker 1: So therefore, the resort is indirectly supported through government created
- 18:42Speaker 1: funding mechanisms.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Now, in terms of this trip, a group of mostly
- 18:46Speaker 2: white creators were invited to come along. Alyssa Jane, Bella Messina,
- 18:51Speaker 2: Jessica Thorto, Tyra Brooke, Ella Victoria and Lily April Rose attended. Alyssa,
- 18:56Speaker 2: Bella and Jessica are the influencers though who have been
- 18:59Speaker 2: receiving the most backlash. So the three women are friends
- 19:03Speaker 2: and have gained large social media followings for sharing content
- 19:06Speaker 2: centered around motherhood and lifestyle. Alyssa and Jessica are actually
- 19:09Speaker 2: both currently pregnant.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Now in terms of the content they shared, it was
- 19:13Speaker 1: typical of what you would expect from an influencer brand trip.
- 19:17Speaker 1: So Before arriving in Uluru, they shared what they had
- 19:20Speaker 1: packed for the trip and their time at the airport.
- 19:23Speaker 1: And upon arrival, they did a room tour and showed
- 19:25Speaker 1: off the goodie bags they received.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Yeah, and the following morning, Jessica filmed a Get Ready
- 19:30Speaker 2: With Me video and she spoke about how it was
- 19:32Speaker 2: a real full circle moment for her because she actually
- 19:35Speaker 2: worked at the hotel they were staying at seven years ago.
- 19:38Speaker 2: She also spoke about what was on the agenda for
- 19:40Speaker 2: the day, which included a didgeridoo workshop, bush yarns, a
- 19:44Speaker 2: visit to an art gallery and dot painting. Now people
- 19:47Speaker 2: were left outraged when the women started sharing content from
- 19:50Speaker 2: day one of the trip because rather than sharing about
- 19:53Speaker 2: the Indigenous culture they shared fit checks and trending sound
- 19:58Speaker 2: videos in front of Uluru.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Yeah there was a lot of backlash over this content
- 20:02Speaker 1: and a lot of people questioned why no Indigenous creators
- 20:06Speaker 1: were invited on this trip. The influencers also got criticized
- 20:10Speaker 1: for not appropriately acknowledging country in their content. And to
- 20:13Speaker 1: make matters worse, influencers are accused of blocking First Nations
- 20:17Speaker 1: people when they shared their concerns about the brand trip.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Now, influencer Eloise Fitt was one of the first creators
- 20:23Speaker 2: to call out the trip in a now-deleted TikTok. A
- 20:26Speaker 2: Reddit thread was also created by an anonymous First Nations
- 20:29Speaker 2: woman who wrote, They've flown a bunch of white women
- 20:32Speaker 2: to Uluru to take selfies and make sponsored reels because
- 20:35Speaker 2: nothing says respect like turning a sacred site into your
- 20:38Speaker 2: personal backdrop. The woman went on to write, Uluru is
- 20:41Speaker 2: not your content farm. Respect the mob. Respect the land.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Now, in response to all the backlash, Alyssa Jane revealed
- 20:48Speaker 1: that the influencers were briefed by the Anagul media team
- 20:51Speaker 1: at the start of the trip about what they could
- 20:53Speaker 1: and couldn't post. Now, during this hour-long meeting, she says
- 20:57Speaker 1: that they were informed that there was a strict content
- 20:59Speaker 1: approval process that they had to adhere to. And she
- 21:02Speaker 1: also said that they were told not to include a
- 21:05Speaker 1: welcome to country on every post. She went on to
- 21:08Speaker 1: claim that the reason they hadn't been able to share
- 21:10Speaker 1: more about the trip was because they were waiting on
- 21:12Speaker 1: approval and some information they'd been taught they're not allowed
- 21:16Speaker 1: to share.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Bella Messina also responded to the criticism. She spoke directly
- 21:20Speaker 2: to the camera and tried to demonstrate how much she
- 21:24Speaker 2: respects Indigenous culture. This is what she said.
- 21:27Speaker 3: I just want to say I have such deep respect
- 21:29Speaker 3: for First Nations culture, and I have shown that for
- 21:33Speaker 3: years and years across my social media platforms. I have
- 21:36Speaker 3: an acknowledgement to country on my podcast. I have shared
- 21:40Speaker 3: lots of Indigenous Australian artwork that I own. I have
- 21:43Speaker 3: donated to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander charities. This trip,
- 21:48Speaker 3: we have done so much consultation directly with our new community.
- 21:53Speaker 3: We have talked directly to mob and learnt from them
- 21:57Speaker 3: and I have shared that on my social media platforms.
- 22:00Speaker 3: We have also talked to media consultants and the National
- 22:04Speaker 3: Park team. This has been a deeply educational and beautiful
- 22:09Speaker 3: experience but unfortunately to share a lot of the learnings
- 22:13Speaker 3: we have there is quite an extensive process. approval process
- 22:17Speaker 3: and so that content is being delayed for that reason
- 22:22Speaker 3: i have posted some deliverables and some approved content on
- 22:26Speaker 3: my stories i've done a tiktok but there is longer
- 22:29Speaker 3: content that is still waiting for approval and that is
- 22:32Speaker 3: why lots of stuff has not been able to be
- 22:34Speaker 3: shared right now because we are trying our hardest to
- 22:38Speaker 3: be deeply respectful of this area.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Bella then went on to say that she would continue
- 22:44Speaker 2: sharing content from her trip and it would be done
- 22:46Speaker 2: so in consultation. She also said it was her job
- 22:49Speaker 2: to help amplify the important message on her large platform
- 22:52Speaker 2: and it would be a disservice to the elders she
- 22:54Speaker 2: had met if she didn't.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Now, as expected, Bella's video attracted further negative commentary and
- 23:00Speaker 1: she hit back, writing, a reminder as well to people
- 23:03Speaker 1: who are making accusations and dogpiling without all the information.
- 23:07Speaker 1: This is my form of income as a single mother.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Wrongly accusing creators of poor behavior directly impacts my ability
- 23:15Speaker 1: to work in the space and therefore impacts whether I
- 23:18Speaker 1: can feed and clothe my children. I am all for
- 23:21Speaker 1: accountability and free expression of opinion, but it needs to
- 23:24Speaker 1: be done from an informed basis.
- 23:26Speaker 2: The Ayers Rock Resort also responded directly to the criticism.
- 23:30Speaker 2: In a screenshot shared to Reddit, the resort said that
- 23:32Speaker 2: they collaborate regularly with Indigenous creators and communities. However, they
- 23:36Speaker 2: sometimes host non-Indigenous creators to help promote Uluru to the
- 23:39Speaker 2: broadest audience possible. They went on to confirm that they're
- 23:42Speaker 2: actually hosting an all-Indigenous creator trip in October. Wow.
- 23:46Speaker 1: And I think it's important to say up front that
- 23:49Speaker 1: we really can't speak on behalf of the Anangu people.
- 23:52Speaker 1: And while I was researching the topic, I came across
- 23:55Speaker 1: an interesting TikTok by a First Nations creator called Selina.
- 23:59Speaker 1: And she originally posted a TikTok calling Alyssa Jane out
- 24:02Speaker 1: for allegedly blocking her for questioning the trip. So in
- 24:05Speaker 1: this latest video, Selena spoke about how she ended up
- 24:08Speaker 1: deleting her original TikTok after she was gently reminded by
- 24:11Speaker 1: a member of the Anangul mob that she shouldn't speak
- 24:14Speaker 1: on behalf of a community she isn't from. So while
- 24:17Speaker 1: Selena is indigenous, she's not part of the Anangul mob
- 24:20Speaker 1: who are the traditional custodians of Uluru. So she said
- 24:24Speaker 1: she can advocate and amplify their voices, but not speak
- 24:27Speaker 1: on their behalf.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Yeah, and she went on to relay the message from
- 24:30Speaker 2: the Anangu mob that the backlash had gotten out of
- 24:33Speaker 2: hand and the issue should be with the brand and
- 24:36Speaker 2: not the influencers. According to Selena, the member of the
- 24:39Speaker 2: mob said it was not the influencers' fault. They were
- 24:42Speaker 2: just invited on the brand trip. In terms of what
- 24:45Speaker 2: we can share our opinion on is the organisation of
- 24:48Speaker 2: this brand trip from a PR perspective because it seems
- 24:51Speaker 2: like they really tried their best with the content approval process.
- 24:54Speaker 2: They had this strict process in place. But it's ultimately
- 24:57Speaker 2: what let them down because the fact that they approved
- 25:01Speaker 2: fit checks and trending sound videos to be shared first
- 25:05Speaker 2: over videos that centered around Indigenous culture was a massive mistake.
- 25:10Speaker 2: It really got this brand trip off on the wrong
- 25:12Speaker 2: foot and it's had everyone focusing on that. And it
- 25:15Speaker 2: seems like this trip has actually been really positive. The
- 25:17Speaker 2: influencers have immersed themselves in the culture. They just haven't
- 25:21Speaker 2: been able to share those moments yet because they're still
- 25:24Speaker 2: being approved. So I think if the approval process was
- 25:27Speaker 2: always going to be this lengthy, then they should have
- 25:29Speaker 2: told influencers to bank up content and then share it
- 25:33Speaker 2: after the trip to avoid any offense.
- 25:36Speaker 1: It's really unfortunate because it seems like the brand may
- 25:38Speaker 1: have been trying to do the right thing by putting
- 25:41Speaker 1: this approval process in place. It sounds like they wanted
- 25:44Speaker 1: to be really sensitive about the content they shared, but
- 25:46Speaker 1: it's actually backfired because they haven't been able to share
- 25:49Speaker 1: the content, which actually best represents this trip.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Well, that's where we're going to leave things today. If
- 25:54Speaker 2: you do enjoy the podcast and want to hear more

- 26:00Speaker 2: you want to subscribe to Outspoken Plus, all the details
- 26:02Speaker 2: are in our show notes. This podcast was recorded on

- 26:08Speaker 2: We pay respect to elders past and present.
