- 0:00Speaker 1: And he's in. It's one more thing.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Since we know the topic matter. That's a pretty pretty
- 0:10Speaker 2: funny tease. Katie has been gone for a couple of weeks.
- 0:15Speaker 2: How long you been gone?
- 0:17Speaker 1: I have, yeah, almost two weeks.
- 0:19Speaker 2: And where were you and what were you doing?
- 0:22Speaker 1: I have, Well, we've talked about it before.
- 0:24Speaker 3: I'm going through the IVF process where my husband and
- 0:28Speaker 3: I are trying to have a baby.
- 0:30Speaker 4: And that's the International Vulture Foundation. Correct, correct, correct, actually
- 0:36Speaker 4: in veto fertilization if you're not familiar. But and you've
- 0:39Speaker 4: been at this for a while.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Yes, we started this in May and we have gone
- 0:46Speaker 3: through two processes, which are called egg retrievals, where they
- 0:50Speaker 3: take my follicles and mature them into eggs, and then
- 0:54Speaker 3: we had to pick from the best lot. Out of that.
- 0:57Speaker 3: We have six. But last week or actually yeah, no,
- 1:04Speaker 3: this week.
- 1:04Speaker 1: It was Monday.
- 1:06Speaker 3: They put the strongest of the embryos into me and
- 1:09Speaker 3: it's a little boy. Oh wow, but boy was that
- 1:15Speaker 3: not an enjoyable process?
- 1:17Speaker 1: Whoa mm hmm.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Were you awake?
- 1:21Speaker 1: I was awake. I that to my surprise. I was awake.
- 1:24Speaker 2: For some reason. I always thought you were. I would
- 1:26Speaker 2: have just assumed you're asleep during this stuff.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Well, they knocked me out for both of the egg retrievals.
- 1:30Speaker 1: So I was going in.
- 1:31Speaker 3: There all, you know, chest puffed out like I got this.
- 1:33Speaker 3: They're gonna knock me out. I'm gonna wake up. I'mnna
- 1:35Speaker 3: feel great. No, No, was awake for the transfer process, which.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Is invasive.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Did they go in through or you who? Or how
- 1:46Speaker 2: do they do it?
- 1:47Speaker 1: They go in through the you who. It's okay, we're
- 1:49Speaker 1: adult here.
- 1:50Speaker 3: It's the same process of as having a pap smere Okay,
- 1:53Speaker 3: it's they.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I've not had one, so I know you have not.
- 1:57Speaker 2: By the way, y n Jack free for the sake
- 2:00Speaker 2: of us all, you.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Know, a whole cleansing.
- 2:02Speaker 3: No, but for any female listening, they'll they'll understand what
- 2:07Speaker 3: I'm talking about. But so, yes, they go in through
- 2:09Speaker 3: the maturely called you who, as Jack said, and.
- 2:14Speaker 1: They inserted a catheter.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Into my uterus and writer into my uterine lining which over.
- 2:23Speaker 1: The I know Jack Jack will clicking about the throw up.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Uh which over the last two weeks.
- 2:29Speaker 3: One of the reasons that I've been needing to be
- 2:31Speaker 3: like down for the count is because the medications that
- 2:34Speaker 3: I've been taking have been making my lining of my
- 2:38Speaker 3: uterus fluffy as they've been saying fluffy. They use all
- 2:44Speaker 3: the adjectives no female ever wants to be described as
- 2:47Speaker 3: they've been calling me fluffy, sticky, and thick.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:52Speaker 3: One of the girls who did one of my ultrasounds went, damn, girl,
- 2:56Speaker 3: you thick.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I was like, thank thank you, thank you, that's what
- 3:00Speaker 1: we're looking for.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Yeah, So I actually I posted the video up at
- 3:05Speaker 3: armstrong getty dot com in Katie's corner. It's actually really
- 3:08Speaker 3: fascinating because you can so she inserts the little catheter
- 3:12Speaker 3: and you can hear me. She's She's trying to talk
- 3:14Speaker 3: to me as this is going on, and I'm going
- 3:16Speaker 3: mm hmm, okay, yeah, because I'm just I'm just like,
- 3:20Speaker 3: get out of there.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Was it was it painful or just uncomfortable? You know,
- 3:24Speaker 2: two different.
- 3:25Speaker 3: I'm having a hard time telling the difference between the two.
- 3:30Speaker 1: But I can't tell.
- 3:31Speaker 3: If it was so uncomfortable that it was painful, I
- 3:34Speaker 3: don't I don't really know. All I know is at
- 3:36Speaker 3: the end, once everything was done, my color left my
- 3:39Speaker 3: body and I damn near passed out.
- 3:42Speaker 4: Oh my, Katie, tell me if this rings true to
- 3:45Speaker 4: you having had a number of uh significant medical procedures
- 3:48Speaker 4: and you have two Jack, there's a feeling. It's not
- 3:53Speaker 4: pain exactly, but it's your animal brain telling you this
- 3:58Speaker 4: should not be happening.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Yeah. I was thinking of when they buyap seed my tumor.
- 4:02Speaker 2: So they had to go in through my back with
- 4:03Speaker 2: the long needle all the way inside, and I don't
- 4:07Speaker 2: know if you've described it as specifically painful, but it
- 4:09Speaker 2: was just like, yeah, it was like, this is not
- 4:11Speaker 2: something that's supposed to happen to me. Whatever is happening here, yeah.
- 4:15Speaker 1: You know what that that's exactly it.
- 4:17Speaker 3: And my doctors, doctor Amy of oz Day out of
- 4:21Speaker 3: the East Bay in uh California, and she's just she
- 4:24Speaker 3: is an angel. But the whole time she was kind
- 4:27Speaker 3: of tapping the side of my legs, going relax your legs,
- 4:30Speaker 3: Relax your leg cause my.
- 4:32Speaker 1: My whole, my whole.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Fist right in your relax. I'm sorry I lost, but
- 4:40Speaker 2: that was so and.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Like I actually remember trying to like center myself and
- 4:45Speaker 3: relax the lower half of my body, but I just couldn't.
- 4:48Speaker 2: I know how many times have I done that where
- 4:50Speaker 2: I like, Okay, I'm on top of this I got it.
- 4:52Speaker 2: I've said my mantras, I and then like it disappears
- 4:55Speaker 2: in a second lot.
- 4:57Speaker 4: I'm playing a golf course in my head, a second
- 5:00Speaker 4: hole is a power for now I.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Can't get up. Yeah. Oh, she she came in. She
- 5:07Speaker 1: comes into the room. She's like you ready.
- 5:08Speaker 3: I was like, I'm ready, let's do this, and like
- 5:11Speaker 3: two point five seconds into it, I'm.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Like no, no, no, no, no no. You know. So
- 5:16Speaker 1: it was actually quite the production.
- 5:18Speaker 3: There was an embryologist there who was the woman who
- 5:21Speaker 3: actually had the embryo and who has been doing all
- 5:24Speaker 3: this science y stuff to it. I don't know what
- 5:26Speaker 3: all that is.
- 5:27Speaker 1: I know that she put.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Drew's sperm in there and has been watching him grow.
- 5:31Speaker 3: That's all that I know. But she came in through
- 5:33Speaker 3: a door that I didn't know was in the room.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Yeah, she came up from behind me and she here
- 5:41Speaker 3: she comes, and she's got it like she's holding it
- 5:44Speaker 3: like a silver platter, you know.
- 5:45Speaker 1: And doctor Amy goes, thank you.
- 5:47Speaker 3: And they put it up on the big screen and
- 5:49Speaker 3: it was this whole thing, and they were doing their
- 5:52Speaker 3: best to like distract me from what I was physically
- 5:55Speaker 3: going through.
- 5:56Speaker 2: We like funny faces, stuff like that, animals.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Cracking jokes. There was house music on in the room.
- 6:03Speaker 4: Okay, you know, like I don't know, well, you know
- 6:07Speaker 4: enough to over overdo the theme. But so much of
- 6:10Speaker 4: modern medical medicine as a miracle. But those things would
- 6:14Speaker 4: never happen to you unless you are being murdered. Like
- 6:18Speaker 4: for the entirety of human history, nobody would be doing
- 6:21Speaker 4: what they did with that needle jacket unless it was
- 6:24Speaker 4: a sword.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:29Speaker 3: But she so she gets and you know it wasn't
- 6:33Speaker 3: She put the catheter in, which I don't know that
- 6:36Speaker 3: I felt. I think my brain felt it, which made
- 6:38Speaker 3: me feel it because I could see it on the screen.
- 6:41Speaker 3: But then she she takes the embryo and she goes, okay,
- 6:44Speaker 3: here we go. And in the video you can see
- 6:47Speaker 3: this little light white blob going through this little tube
- 6:51Speaker 3: and then all of a sudden, right into my uterus
- 6:53Speaker 3: and almost lit up.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Wow.
- 6:55Speaker 3: And what was funny is when she when she was
- 6:56Speaker 3: doing it, doctor Amy as as he went because it's
- 6:59Speaker 3: it's a boy, as he went into my uterration, she went, oh.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Oh sound effects.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Yeah. And then and then after that it was done.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Other than the fact that they had to get me
- 7:11Speaker 3: like six ice packs and bring me back to life
- 7:13Speaker 3: because I've decided to, you know, vacate.
- 7:18Speaker 4: So is God willing the pregnancy going to proceed in
- 7:25Speaker 4: more of the usual way at this point or do
- 7:26Speaker 4: you still have to get jabbed and poked and drugged
- 7:29Speaker 4: and stuff.
- 7:30Speaker 3: So I have my first pregnancy test next Tuesday, and
- 7:35Speaker 3: then they do a follow up just to make sure
- 7:37Speaker 3: on Thursday. And then at eighteen weeks is when they
- 7:42Speaker 3: do the big test to make sure that he does
- 7:44Speaker 3: not have polycystic kidney disease, which is the whole reason
- 7:48Speaker 3: we've been doing this.
- 7:48Speaker 1: So that's called PGA testing.
- 7:50Speaker 3: So they're gonna I have a feeling, I have a
- 7:53Speaker 3: terrible feeling that that's going to involve a needle going through.
- 7:56Speaker 1: My stomach to get the ANII fluid.
- 7:58Speaker 3: I think, I know, I hate to tell you, but
- 8:01Speaker 3: and I hate to think that that's what they're gonna do.
- 8:04Speaker 3: But uh so, it's gonna be kind of a waiting
- 8:08Speaker 3: game until eighteen weeks and then I'm just staying positive
- 8:13Speaker 3: that he does not have it.
- 8:14Speaker 1: He's not gonna because it's a fifty to fifty shot.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Fifty fifty.
- 8:18Speaker 3: It's polycystic kidney disease is a fifty to fifty percent
- 8:21Speaker 3: hereditary disease.
- 8:23Speaker 2: So but he's in there, well do we say congratulations?
- 8:28Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, he's in there.
- 8:29Speaker 3: And and let me tell you, I've had to quit
- 8:32Speaker 3: all of my vices, which is a good time, right,
- 8:35Speaker 3: No drinking, no occasional vaping, no uh anything, which.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Has made me a joy.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Oh boy, yeah, no comment.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Yeah, Drew's still alive. I will let you know that.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Good.
- 8:53Speaker 1: But everything's good.
- 8:55Speaker 3: I I and I was texting with Hans and I
- 8:56Speaker 3: was like, dude, I just I just want to come back.
- 8:58Speaker 1: It's I didn't. I didn't like being away for as
- 9:01Speaker 1: long as I was.
- 9:01Speaker 3: And so I we're feeling good and a little still
- 9:05Speaker 3: a little medicated, but I will be medicated for another
- 9:08Speaker 3: twelve days and then I think I'm done with those.
- 9:10Speaker 2: But I remember when you're pregnant. It funny, I don't
- 9:12Speaker 2: remember this. Do you drink caffeine or not? No, no caffeine, Nope.
- 9:16Speaker 1: That's some coffee list today.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Okay, so that's a tough one too.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Yeah. Other things yeah, yeah, caffeine booze. Uh sushi, oh
- 9:24Speaker 1: my god, that's one of my.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Favorite can't eat sushi when you're pregnant.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Deli meats, so no like Deli sandwiches unless it's hand
- 9:31Speaker 3: carved stuff.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Probably probably bull riding. You're not doing any of that anymore.
- 9:36Speaker 3: Go bull riding, which is like passion. Yeah, I know,
- 9:40Speaker 3: I know, so well cool, Yeah, I'm excited.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:45Speaker 3: Like I said, his name is Jack Joe Michaelangelo Hanson Green.
- 9:50Speaker 2: How roughly long have they been doing this for people?
- 9:52Speaker 2: How long has this technology been like a regular thing?
- 9:57Speaker 2: Oh jeez, I don't like decades or a couple of
- 9:59Speaker 2: years or I don't.
- 10:00Speaker 3: I know, doctor Amy's been doing it for a long time,
- 10:03Speaker 3: and she's I mean, she's one of the best of
- 10:05Speaker 3: the best, so I should ask her how long she's
- 10:08Speaker 3: had her practice.
- 10:08Speaker 2: But can you explained to us that insurance is not
- 10:10Speaker 2: covering a lot of this and it's pretty expensive.
- 10:12Speaker 1: It's quite expensive. But there are there are certain.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Places like if you have I've read that if you
- 10:19Speaker 3: get like if you have a job at Amazon, Amazon
- 10:21Speaker 3: actually covers in fertility it am, but I don't.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I don't really know other companies do that.
- 10:29Speaker 4: I'm glad I asked the very first successful IVF birth
- 10:33Speaker 4: I remember this was Louise Brown in England in nineteen
- 10:37Speaker 4: seventy eight. Oh wow, and doctor Robert Edwards won the
- 10:42Speaker 4: twenty ten Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for this breakthrough.
- 10:46Speaker 2: It's obviously progressed. Yeah, I just wonder how long it's
- 10:49Speaker 2: been like common for regular people to do. I don't
- 10:52Speaker 2: know that.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Well.
- 10:53Speaker 3: I was blown away by the amount of people that
- 10:58Speaker 3: listen to the last podcast about this and reached out
- 11:00Speaker 3: to me on Twitter or whatever, saying, you know, my
- 11:03Speaker 3: wife is going through this and it was really nice
- 11:05Speaker 3: to hear somebody.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Else talk about it.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Yeah, so that's why I you know, I've never really
- 11:09Speaker 3: been a closed book about anything, so I have no
- 11:11Speaker 3: problem talking about this stuff. And the other cool part
- 11:15Speaker 3: is that so since we have six very healthy embryos. Also,
- 11:18Speaker 3: I'm very good at making girls because I have one
- 11:21Speaker 3: boy embryo the rest of chicks.
- 11:24Speaker 1: But once the two we want two babies.
- 11:28Speaker 3: So once we're done, the remaining embryos are going to
- 11:32Speaker 3: be donated to families that can't.
- 11:36Speaker 2: What a beautiful thing.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Yeah, so be afraid there might be more of me
- 11:41Speaker 1: out there.
- 11:43Speaker 4: Fine, God help us. Final note on my months of
- 11:47Speaker 4: research on this topic. It was really in the early
- 11:49Speaker 4: two thousands that they stepped on the gas pedal and
- 11:52Speaker 4: it became much much more widespread and efficient, and millions
- 11:56Speaker 4: of babies have now been born worldwide. If since nineteen
- 12:01Speaker 4: seventy eight.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Well we all learned something. I don't want to put
- 12:07Speaker 2: my feet in those stirrups. I just don't feel like
- 12:09Speaker 2: that's my best side.
- 12:10Speaker 3: You should try it one time, just one time, just
- 12:13Speaker 3: going there, when you go to the doctor's office and
- 12:14Speaker 3: be like, hey, doctor, there a stirrups on this chair.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Let me can I just one time.
- 12:18Speaker 2: It's kind of comfortable, seems like I'd feel very vulnerable
- 12:22Speaker 2: exactly to help your empathy there.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Tough guy, yeah, murder face, Yeah, there's.
- 12:29Speaker 2: No need to go after his murder face. You're gonna
- 12:31Speaker 2: make him more murdery. My wife is going to do that.
- 12:35Speaker 4: But after hearing this, we're just gonna do a foreign
- 12:38Speaker 4: exchange student this summer.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Excellent.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Well, I guess that's it.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Michael.
- 12:50Speaker 1: You're just the greatest
