- 0:00Speaker 1: I could do without that song please for today. Okay everybody,
- 0:05Speaker 1: it's a ten of six on Who's Radio eleven ten
- 0:07Speaker 1: KFB and the Fun Hours about to begin. It's on now. Yeah,
- 0:11Speaker 1: it's working. How long were you in this morning jam?
- 0:15Speaker 1: The blue light says it's on, well, and the blue
- 0:17Speaker 1: light's out it's not.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I don't think. I don't think it was on earlier,
- 0:22Speaker 2: but now it is. Good morning. Okay, let's see you again.
- 0:25Speaker 2: So it's nice to have you back. It's nice to
- 0:27Speaker 2: be had. Does your pastki still work?
- 0:29Speaker 1: Yeah? I did. That's look, that's the first sign. Yeah,
- 0:32Speaker 1: that's a good sign. I can't get in the building.
- 0:34Speaker 1: You just hope they give you the heads up so
- 0:36Speaker 1: you don't drive all the way down here to find
- 0:37Speaker 1: out that you've been eliminated by virtue of having your
- 0:39Speaker 1: passkey invalidate.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Right, But it is nice to come back and feel
- 0:43Speaker 2: right at home because there's an internet out.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Yes. Yeah, there's always something.
- 0:49Speaker 2: That's not that's not us in this case, this is
- 0:51Speaker 2: the neighborhood, right apparently.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Well, I think it's kind of typical around here because
- 0:55Speaker 1: I think the Internet is nineteen ten version and they're
- 1:00Speaker 1: working hard to get it into the twenty first century,
- 1:02Speaker 1: which is only twenty five years old, now twenty six
- 1:05Speaker 1: years old.
- 1:06Speaker 2: We got a heads up from crack engineer Todd Came
- 1:10Speaker 2: that the century like people are aware and are working
- 1:15Speaker 2: on it.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Okay, Well, this is the KFA B comment line, which
- 1:19Speaker 1: has a long and rich history on news radio eleven
- 1:21Speaker 1: to ten. Kf be currently being shepherded by the former
- 1:24Speaker 1: mayor Jean Stouther who, like most radio people, needs a
- 1:27Speaker 1: day off, so she's taking the whole week off actually,
- 1:31Speaker 1: and so it's satom Iron Rose for the next you know,
- 1:34Speaker 1: fifty minutes or so. We'd love to hear from you. Yeah,
- 1:36Speaker 1: and if we can kind of the idea, Yeah, we
- 1:38Speaker 1: could evoke the old history of the KFB comment line,
- 1:41Speaker 1: which is you know, Sadler goes way way back to
- 1:44Speaker 1: our good old friend Hall of Famer Walt Kavanaugh, who
- 1:47Speaker 1: used to have a voice recording machine, a sort of
- 1:51Speaker 1: an early version of it was early voicemail. Yeah, and
- 1:54Speaker 1: you he promoted a number if you'd like to make
- 1:57Speaker 1: a comment on the KFAB comment line, they'd call. He'd
- 1:59Speaker 1: record these messages and then he'd pick two or three
- 2:02Speaker 1: of them, however long each day or however often it was,
- 2:05Speaker 1: and he would literally solve the problem. So somebody would
- 2:08Speaker 1: call in and say, well, I have a squirrel in
- 2:10Speaker 1: my chimney, and he'd say he'd call down to the
- 2:13Speaker 1: animal control city Chimney sweep.
- 2:16Speaker 2: I recalled animal control. What it was Walt Walt recorded
- 2:20Speaker 2: it live m while recording it on a cassette, okay,
- 2:26Speaker 2: with the phone call, and then he would edit it
- 2:30Speaker 2: down to I think it was fifteen to twenty minutes,
- 2:32Speaker 2: and we'd play it back at night. I think at
- 2:35Speaker 2: ten or five or ten thirty, I can't remember exactly
- 2:38Speaker 2: twenty minutes. I ran that for you know, first a
- 2:41Speaker 2: year and a half I was here. I was on
- 2:42Speaker 2: till midnight and loved it. People listening to that man, well,
- 2:48Speaker 2: you know, they wanted to get on with the wal Cavis.
- 2:50Speaker 2: So what he'd he would record, as you say, and
- 2:53Speaker 2: take whatever the question was and then call whatever pertinent
- 2:57Speaker 2: authority there was that could answer the question or solved
- 3:00Speaker 2: the problem.
- 3:01Speaker 1: City Forrester Hunter, the Humane Society. Yeah, it's a public
- 3:06Speaker 1: works guy, so we have a little fun with it,
- 3:09Speaker 1: but it was it was a good public service. It
- 3:12Speaker 1: was and it engaged kfab listeners across the world as
- 3:16Speaker 1: it does now five five, eight eleven ten. That's the
- 3:18Speaker 1: number to call if you want to be on. We
- 3:20Speaker 1: did do a live kfab comment line program. That's what
- 3:24Speaker 1: Gene does and that's what we're doing.
- 3:26Speaker 2: And yeah, zero take whatever us or email Peyton high
- 3:33Speaker 2: Lock shepherding this whole thing here every day that the
- 3:37Speaker 2: emails comment at kfab dot com.
- 3:39Speaker 3: You got a Gary, and I actually had one thing
- 3:40Speaker 3: come in already this morning.
- 3:42Speaker 4: We'll see, good morning, Gary.
- 3:44Speaker 3: And Jim uh Ethan is asking you if either of
- 3:48Speaker 3: you guys have ever seen the Michael Jackson movie that
- 3:50Speaker 3: just came out.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Your thoughts and opinions, Roger, I did. Now, as many
- 3:54Speaker 1: of you know, I'm very hard on biopics. I'm extremely
- 3:58Speaker 1: skeptical on every I'm a very tough nut and a
- 4:01Speaker 1: tough customer on biopicks. If it's not really well done
- 4:05Speaker 1: and the acting isn't really on par and the the
- 4:08Speaker 1: individual playing that person isn't really close, I don't think
- 4:12Speaker 1: I'm away disappointed.
- 4:13Speaker 2: I don't think you and I have ever agreed on
- 4:14Speaker 2: a biopick. It's possible. I've seen a few that I
- 4:17Speaker 2: thought were great. Whitney Houston's was really good. I thought
- 4:20Speaker 2: very very good. I was not impressed with the Reagan biopick.
- 4:23Speaker 2: I'm the next one will be the next one will
- 4:25Speaker 2: be the Eisenhower.
- 4:27Speaker 1: The Elvis one, I did not. I thought the Elvis
- 4:29Speaker 1: one was except I thought it was good. I thought
- 4:31Speaker 1: it was very good, you know. And I did not
- 4:34Speaker 1: know Colonel Tom Parker. Nobody did by comparison to Elvis,
- 4:37Speaker 1: but Colonel Tom, because Austin Murphy played Elvis and he
- 4:41Speaker 1: was actually nominated for Best Actor. And then Colonel Tom
- 4:44Speaker 1: Parker was played by Tom Hanks, which I thought was
- 4:46Speaker 1: stole the show. I thought, I thought it was a
- 4:48Speaker 1: Hanks Parker movie. Yeah, I really do. Yeah, well, the
- 4:51Speaker 1: storyline was that. But Murphy just I think was so
- 4:54Speaker 1: authentic and I and I thought that Michael Jackson biopick
- 4:58Speaker 1: was exceptionally all done. Now, if you're looking for the
- 5:02Speaker 1: full monthy, you're not going to get it because this
- 5:05Speaker 1: was a family sanctioned Yeah, a family sanctioned movie, which
- 5:10Speaker 1: means they protected Uncle Michael from all of the stuff
- 5:14Speaker 1: that we read and heard about in the last twenty
- 5:16Speaker 1: years of his life. It stopped pretty much right at
- 5:18Speaker 1: the victory tour, which was in the mid eighties, but
- 5:21Speaker 1: his nephew, Jafar Jackson, one of I think ten kids
- 5:25Speaker 1: of Germaine Jackson and three wives. He played Michael and
- 5:29Speaker 1: he was exceptional. He was great, I thought, And again
- 5:34Speaker 1: most of it had half the movie was after he
- 5:37Speaker 1: had ascended to his own sort of recording career, he
- 5:42Speaker 1: had separated from his brothers. Something it was. They went
- 5:46Speaker 1: behind the scenes and it sort of confirmed a lot
- 5:49Speaker 1: of the reputation that Jackson had that his childhood was
- 5:52Speaker 1: stolen by his dad. That's celebrity superstar.
- 5:57Speaker 3: No, I haven't seen it, but did you find yourself
- 6:00Speaker 3: wanting to moonwalk out of the theme?
- 6:02Speaker 4: What about get your best like he?
- 6:04Speaker 1: No, we didn't do that, but we were just impressed
- 6:07Speaker 1: by Jafar Jackson. And what I learned is that he'd
- 6:10Speaker 1: spent two years really very just doggedly determined to get
- 6:15Speaker 1: as close to Jackson's ability to dance as possible, and
- 6:19Speaker 1: much of the vocals were his, but they also overdubbed
- 6:23Speaker 1: Michael's vocals into some of the songs and very carefully
- 6:26Speaker 1: and skillfully.
- 6:27Speaker 2: I don't know if you remember this, Jim, but you
- 6:30Speaker 2: probably do. Early seventies, the Jackson five, and they'd be
- 6:35Speaker 2: on TV. You could tell that little guy had something special.
- 6:39Speaker 2: He was a I don't know, seven or eight years
- 6:42Speaker 2: old maybe, and then lord, I don't know when we've
- 6:46Speaker 2: seen talent like that stage.
- 6:48Speaker 1: I mean, he's just he was incredible. You know, he's great.
- 6:51Speaker 1: And this movie again, you know, it was very well done.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Once again, it portrays Joe Jackson as an evil human
- 6:58Speaker 1: being terrible, awful, dreadful man. And it's probably true, but
- 7:04Speaker 1: you forget that if it weren't for Joe Jackson, this
- 7:06Speaker 1: is the dad, they'd all still be working in that
- 7:09Speaker 1: steel mill and Gary, Indiana. He's the one that said
- 7:12Speaker 1: I'm gonna drive this family out of poverty and we're
- 7:16Speaker 1: gonna be big. So you can you can blame him
- 7:18Speaker 1: from being a schmuck. You can make him into a
- 7:20Speaker 1: dreadful ogre parent. And maybe he was. But I don't
- 7:24Speaker 1: think any of those Jackson's that are sitting around on
- 7:26Speaker 1: the lap of luxury right now think about how often
- 7:29Speaker 1: they could have been back in Gary working nine to five.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I'll check that one out, you like it. The next
- 7:34Speaker 1: one is going to be the Billy Joel and that
- 7:37Speaker 1: is not sanctioned by Billy or his family. This is
- 7:40Speaker 1: by his former Here's another one I mentioned. I don't
- 7:42Speaker 1: think you and I have ever talked about it. You
- 7:44Speaker 1: like the Elton john one. I haven't seen it. I've
- 7:47Speaker 1: heard I didn't see it. Yeah, I gotta go see
- 7:49Speaker 1: that one. Or he's like that one too. It's not
- 7:52Speaker 1: in the theaters anymore. Yeah, but I'll watch it on
- 7:55Speaker 1: Netflix or HBO or something. Johnny was Johnny call Walk
- 7:59Speaker 1: the line? That was very good. Yeah. I thought that
- 8:02Speaker 1: that was Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon. I thought that
- 8:06Speaker 1: one was really good. I'll watch that occasion. I don't
- 8:10Speaker 1: casting on that one. But really, didn't you like you
- 8:12Speaker 1: didn't think I wasn't crazy?
- 8:14Speaker 2: He didn't like that. I'm tough too. I mean, wow,
- 8:17Speaker 2: it's it's when I know something about him. I thought
- 8:19Speaker 2: that was a really good one. It's when I know
- 8:21Speaker 2: something about him that I wanted to really be he won.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Well. I was very very concerned about Denis Quaid playing
- 8:29Speaker 1: Ronald Reagan and I thought that and I also didn't
- 8:32Speaker 1: like the screenplay, and I disagree. Yeah, all these biopicals, well, yeah,
- 8:38Speaker 1: especially I thought Coal Miner's Daughter was maybe the gold standard.
- 8:42Speaker 1: But you know, in the case of Reagan. Part of
- 8:44Speaker 1: it was I didn't think Quaid did a great Reagan.
- 8:46Speaker 1: But secondly, they jumped around too much. They should have
- 8:49Speaker 1: focused on maybe he and Nancy's relationship or his political career,
- 8:54Speaker 1: but they kept jumping here and there, and I didn't
- 8:56Speaker 1: know what to do. It was I came away such
- 8:58Speaker 1: a remarkable life.
- 9:00Speaker 2: I think they tried to get pieces of segment of it,
- 9:03Speaker 2: and I enjoyed it a great deal. By the way,
- 9:05Speaker 2: So I guess we've opened that topic here, that one
- 9:08Speaker 2: of home. What's your favorite.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Bio fleck or the one that disappointed you the most? Yeah, yeah,
- 9:13Speaker 3: you know, and we want to hear from you guys.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Four zero two, five, five, eight to eleven ten comment
- 9:17Speaker 3: at kfab dot com. I'm shuffling through my phone here
- 9:20Speaker 3: due to lack of internet in the building.
- 9:24Speaker 4: This one comes from Bob.
- 9:25Speaker 3: I saw a census report that the population had a
- 9:28Speaker 3: small dip between twenty four and twenty five. Is this
- 9:31Speaker 3: a pattern you think is going to continue? What the
- 9:34Speaker 3: country or yea NASCO national population.
- 9:37Speaker 2: I think it is a trend. The birth rate is
- 9:39Speaker 2: alarmingly low, it really is, and that's a good problem.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Bring us a lot more trouble down the road than
- 9:45Speaker 2: we think. You know, if you have the you remember Satder.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Back in the early seventies, there was this big zero
- 9:51Speaker 2: population growth movement. You had the hippies and the crazy
- 9:54Speaker 2: lefties that said, okay, we can't have it. Yeah, and uh,
- 9:59Speaker 2: suddenly people realize, well, hold on just a second. If nobody
- 10:02Speaker 2: has any kids, who's going to pay for my Social Security?
- 10:05Speaker 2: At last report, people who work pay for the people
- 10:08Speaker 2: who don't work their social Security. So maybe we ought
- 10:11Speaker 2: to stop this talk about not having kids anymore. What's
- 10:15Speaker 2: the number you need to have? The replacement rate is
- 10:18Speaker 2: two point three kids something like that per family. You'd
- 10:24Speaker 2: think it would be two, but no, because you have
- 10:27Speaker 2: you have to account for deaths.
- 10:29Speaker 1: And you have to account for people they only have
- 10:30Speaker 1: one or none.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you did your job. You had four of them. Yeah,
- 10:36Speaker 2: you're behind them. Between the two of us, they averaged
- 10:39Speaker 2: it out. Yeah, Peyton, you're not. You're not in a fatherhood.
- 10:45Speaker 3: Created yet not yet, not yet married in August, though
- 10:48Speaker 3: you're getting married or you're getting.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Married in August. Congratulate Is she in trouble? I always
- 10:56Speaker 1: go there, but yeah, you know, congratulations, Well, thank you,
- 10:58Speaker 1: thank you, and we're when do we landing on children?
- 11:01Speaker 1: She will have to get our approval before this is
- 11:04Speaker 1: actually done.
- 11:04Speaker 3: So totally as long as we stay away from the seafood.
- 11:09Speaker 3: No seafood fan, Rosie. You were right though. In the
- 11:11Speaker 3: seventies one point six berths per woman that was a
- 11:14Speaker 3: low in the country, and about two point two two
- 11:17Speaker 3: point three right now is what it is to continue it.
- 11:21Speaker 3: Kent sent an email here says who cares about MJ.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Let's talk about exciting news or sports in Omaha.
- 11:27Speaker 1: One thing already.
- 11:28Speaker 3: One thing that has been controversial Chris Baker's talked about
- 11:32Speaker 3: in the afternoon as well is Nebraska softball. Nebraska baseball
- 11:37Speaker 3: and the season ticket that's created some controversy.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Player of the Year. Yeah, rightly, so transformative, no doubt
- 11:44Speaker 1: for that sport. Yeah. Uh well, you know we've talked
- 11:47Speaker 1: about this on the air, will continue to I if
- 11:50Speaker 1: I were in charge, and I'm not and they don't
- 11:53Speaker 1: ask anymore. Come on, if I were in charge, I
- 11:55Speaker 1: would not be offering baseball and softball season tickets to
- 12:00Speaker 1: donors unless they own baseball and softball season tickets. They
- 12:06Speaker 1: don't make any more money doing it. They just reduced
- 12:09Speaker 1: donations to a transaction, which is a negative trend because
- 12:12Speaker 1: if it's a transaction, that means they have to assign
- 12:15Speaker 1: some sort of monetary value.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Not only that, but I don't believe that people are
- 12:19Speaker 2: donating money so they can get basement yeah, softball tickets. Fact,
- 12:23Speaker 2: they're donating money because they want to support the program overall, exactly.
- 12:26Speaker 1: And I spoke with one of the top ten percent
- 12:29Speaker 1: donors last week, just casually, and he was very embarrassed
- 12:33Speaker 1: by it. He said, you know, I mean they came.
- 12:34Speaker 1: The guy called me and said, hey, I got two
- 12:36Speaker 1: tickets for you behind Home played if you want them whatever.
- 12:39Speaker 1: And he says, I don't go to baseball game. He's
- 12:41Speaker 1: got a suite at the football steam. He's a big
- 12:42Speaker 1: Husker fan, and he's supportive. He goes, well, that's not
- 12:46Speaker 1: fair because somebody bought that season ticket and now they're
- 12:49Speaker 1: booted out because they don't own a suite in the stadium.
- 12:53Speaker 1: And then the argument is, well, we have to Part
- 12:55Speaker 1: of it is we have to set aside seats for
- 12:57Speaker 1: the other team. That's an easy one before each and
- 13:00Speaker 1: you say, okay, if we make a regional, we have
- 13:02Speaker 1: to have three hundred seats for this team over here
- 13:04Speaker 1: in three hundred seats, So don't sell those as season tickets.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Just sell those on a game by game and you'll
- 13:11Speaker 1: sell those like this, so you don't have that. That's
- 13:13Speaker 1: a flimsy argument, and I didn't agree with that, and
- 13:16Speaker 1: I wish they'd quit saying things that are easily, you know, debunked.
- 13:19Speaker 1: But it's about treatment of fans, and Nebraska, for years
- 13:24Speaker 1: and years and years was the gold standard for how
- 13:27Speaker 1: it treated its fans. And the fans responded, I don't
- 13:30Speaker 1: in kind. This one is. This one is greed and
- 13:34Speaker 1: it's not healthy, and it causes a divide between those
- 13:37Speaker 1: who are of means and those who don't.
- 13:39Speaker 2: It's greed without a result, right, I mean, they're not
- 13:42Speaker 2: gonna not give money because they don't get us off,
- 13:44Speaker 2: exactly by the way I thought. Speaking of sports, you're
- 13:50Speaker 2: item this morning that whatever entity it was, proclaimed Nebraska
- 13:54Speaker 2: to be the second most likely to lose the regional.
- 13:57Speaker 1: That was the DraftKings, DraftKings, Kansas the most.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Nebraska is notoriously tough at home, Well they have been
- 14:05Speaker 2: this year. What we're talking about, Yeah, this is going
- 14:09Speaker 2: to be a tough regional now Ole Miss.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Ole Miss is a pure SEC team with SEC material
- 14:14Speaker 1: and good the good resume. And the other thing you
- 14:17Speaker 1: should know about Ole Miss is they are not They
- 14:20Speaker 1: are not going to be intimidated about a big crowd
- 14:22Speaker 1: because they want later two three years ago, right, Ole Miss?
- 14:25Speaker 1: Or they won the World Series in twenty twenty two. Yeah,
- 14:27Speaker 1: but they they have played in front of massively hostile
- 14:31Speaker 1: crowds in the SE's LSU Florida. You know, Mississippi State, Arkansas.
- 14:39Speaker 1: If you think they're going to be intimidated by a
- 14:41Speaker 1: big crowd, no, Now, Arizona State doesn't play in front
- 14:43Speaker 1: of big crowds. And I think they may be a
- 14:45Speaker 1: little bit of a paper tiger offensively because that ballpark
- 14:48Speaker 1: down there is a bandbox. Now, Landon Harrison is their
- 14:52Speaker 1: super player. He's maybe the very best player in the country,
- 14:56Speaker 1: and he's certainly hit a lot of home runs. But
- 14:58Speaker 1: again down there, fly balls turn into home runs in
- 15:02Speaker 1: that ballpark. So Ole Miss is the one to worry.
- 15:04Speaker 2: It's a tough regional for sure, but don't sell Nebraska. Sure,
- 15:08Speaker 2: I mean this is exciting at home. They sprang both
- 15:11Speaker 2: these teams.
- 15:12Speaker 1: We're a little bit better at home and that's a
- 15:14Speaker 1: tremendous advantage and it should be fun. I think that
- 15:17Speaker 1: they'll be very successful in the first game. I see
- 15:20Speaker 1: they have Carson Yasa going to start the first game.
- 15:23Speaker 1: That surprises me a little bit. He's the ace I
- 15:27Speaker 1: would have larded, and maybe they did consider this. Hold
- 15:30Speaker 1: that guy back for the second game might seem disrespectful
- 15:33Speaker 1: to South Dakota State, but this isn't about respect or
- 15:35Speaker 1: lack of respect about winnings. And having Carson for that
- 15:39Speaker 1: second game I think might have been might prove to
- 15:43Speaker 1: have been very fortunate. Check me on this.
- 15:45Speaker 2: If you win your regional, you get home field for
- 15:49Speaker 2: the Super unless somebody seated higher than you won their region.
- 15:53Speaker 1: So yeah, the top eight national seeds they keep home
- 15:56Speaker 1: field advantage throughout including the super Regional. If one of
- 15:59Speaker 1: them loses in their regional, then it flips back. So
- 16:03Speaker 1: in the case of Nebraska, they're up against Auburn, the
- 16:06Speaker 1: number four national seed. Auburn then if they win their
- 16:08Speaker 1: regional would host Nebraska or whoever comes out of this
- 16:11Speaker 1: regional for the Super refund.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Yeah, now, they're fun, they're fun to watch. They're good ladies.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Star what Thursday Thursday, Thursday night man. Yeah, that'll be good,
- 16:22Speaker 2: pretty cool.
- 16:22Speaker 1: A lot of Nebraska's in Oklahoma City again, Hey help
- 16:29Speaker 1: us out here. We we're you know, we did a
- 16:33Speaker 1: morning show for years. It usually taking a break everything.
- 16:36Speaker 1: How are we on the breaks here?
- 16:37Speaker 2: You know?
- 16:38Speaker 3: Okay, we got a few minutes left and on that,
- 16:40Speaker 3: I think we're gonna change topics. We're gonna go to
- 16:42Speaker 3: Ray on the phone lines. I'll keep you guys in
- 16:44Speaker 3: the loop on our time. But here you go. Ray,
- 16:45Speaker 3: you are live now on news radio eleven to ten KFA.
- 16:48Speaker 1: B Ight.
- 16:50Speaker 5: I'd like to get some people who stuff to take
- 16:52Speaker 5: about this coming weekends. They have the primaries coming up
- 16:56Speaker 5: of mile one in the district. I'm what guys, very polite,
- 17:03Speaker 5: does not bad mouth his cutpetitor. His competitor has all
- 17:09Speaker 5: sorts of things, suggests him mail. But there's about eighteen
- 17:15Speaker 5: or nineteen different outfits from Virginia to Maryland to Texas
- 17:20Speaker 5: to Chicago back in the one and he said three
- 17:25Speaker 5: times in uh has a tone much of anything. So
- 17:31Speaker 5: I say, that's very strike you're out. I think people
- 17:34Speaker 5: should take about things like.
- 17:35Speaker 1: That, all right.
- 17:36Speaker 5: The ones that the ones that's polite are usually usually
- 17:41Speaker 5: the ones that you know I should win.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Well, you're asking the yeah, we're ray. You're asking the
- 17:47Speaker 1: voters to pay close attention. Some of them do, a
- 17:50Speaker 1: lot of them don't. And that's that's when you get
- 17:53Speaker 1: bad candidates. Thanks, right, I appreciate the call. All right.
- 17:56Speaker 1: So this is the Cave of B comment line. Normally
- 17:58Speaker 1: it is Jean stout there, but it is Walkevanon Lyle
- 18:01Speaker 1: Bremsers five five eight eleven ten one eight hundred five eleven.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Absolutely anyway, we'd love to hear from you on the phone.
- 18:09Speaker 1: That's right, Lile. We'd love to hear from you on
- 18:10Speaker 1: the phone. Or you can uh, you know, email us
- 18:13Speaker 1: or text us, or you can go on the talkback Mike,
- 18:16Speaker 1: whatever you like. But jan on here right, Ken. We'll
- 18:18Speaker 1: get to Ken after we do some business here. This
- 18:20Speaker 1: is still a for profit operation. I know you're not,
- 18:23Speaker 1: but we are KFAB News Time of the morning, ten
- 18:25Speaker 1: twenty four.
- 18:26Speaker 3: Here we are back on the KFAB comment line on
- 18:28Speaker 3: a Wednesday morning four zero two five five eight eleven
- 18:32Speaker 3: ten comment at kfab dot com. We're going to headch
- 18:34Speaker 3: the phone lines. Ken, you are now live on news
- 18:36Speaker 3: radio eleven ten KFAB.
- 18:40Speaker 6: Hey, good morning, gentlemen.
- 18:41Speaker 7: Thanks having my call.
- 18:42Speaker 6: Hey, Gary's great to hear you back on the radio,
- 18:44Speaker 6: my man, Thank you, sir. Say you guys were talking
- 18:47Speaker 6: about you know, biopicks and this and that. Now it
- 18:50Speaker 6: was a little before my time the Doors.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:53Speaker 6: Val Kilmer played Jim Morris on that. I said it
- 18:57Speaker 6: was before my time, but I heard and I read
- 18:59Speaker 6: that that he took a bunch of voice lessons and
- 19:01Speaker 6: actually saying yes most of those songs. Is that true?
- 19:05Speaker 6: And then number two, I just wondered if he had
- 19:07Speaker 6: any interesting experiences driving the golf cart over the weekend.
- 19:09Speaker 1: My man, I'd forgotten about that. Yeah. Val Kilmer played
- 19:14Speaker 1: Jim Morrison in the bio pick on the Doors. He
- 19:17Speaker 1: was brilliant. It was brilliantly well done. He's a good actor.
- 19:20Speaker 1: He was a very good actor. Thank you. Ken.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Yes, I did with the golf cart at Bill and
- 19:24Speaker 2: Vaughan's great event at.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Memorial Park Friday night. Spill anybody, No, but uli got
- 19:31Speaker 1: soaked for a while. It rained pretty good and then
- 19:33Speaker 1: it rained.
- 19:35Speaker 2: But the first, you know, until you get used to
- 19:37Speaker 2: a cart, well, the going down the hill. The first time,
- 19:42Speaker 2: I'm thinking, you know, I might want to touch the brakes.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Here, So I didn't have a governor on it. No
- 19:48Speaker 1: oh no, oh wow.
- 19:50Speaker 2: But then I got used to it. It was, it was.
- 19:53Speaker 2: It was a great night, wonderful night. Even though they
- 19:55Speaker 2: couldn't unveil the flare, unrolled, the flat to windy and
- 19:58Speaker 2: the rain. Yeah, the flag people were concerned about the
- 20:02Speaker 2: weight of it and if the wind caught it, you know,
- 20:04Speaker 2: might take somebody out. Good go to uh is it Brett?
- 20:09Speaker 2: Go to Brett on the phone, Brett, good.
- 20:11Speaker 8: Morning, Good morning, Gary, Good morning, Jim.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Hey nobody.
- 20:15Speaker 8: I'm calling to pay some homage and do a little
- 20:18Speaker 8: brown nosing. I got three things. The first thing is
- 20:20Speaker 8: I really miss being able to say hey Gary at
- 20:24Speaker 8: the start of a talkback Mike message. The second thing
- 20:27Speaker 8: is my favorite biophic is going to be the one
- 20:29Speaker 8: they make about Gary Saddle. And then number three, since
- 20:34Speaker 8: you're not coming around as much anymore, the beloved Governor
- 20:37Speaker 8: Hineman doesn't either, So maybe Rosie can can check into
- 20:40Speaker 8: that and do something about it.
- 20:41Speaker 1: But I'll be playing I'll be playing Dave Heineman in
- 20:46Speaker 1: the Heineman biopic. Yeah, no doubt. Just we already had
- 20:50Speaker 1: a round of auditions and good to see you guys.
- 20:53Speaker 1: It's really good to see you two.
- 20:54Speaker 9: You know, we won't be playing golf in North Bend
- 20:56Speaker 9: because I got privileges in North Bend obills let me
- 20:58Speaker 9: play exempt out there, so I'll.
- 21:00Speaker 1: See out there.
- 21:01Speaker 9: Gary.
- 21:01Speaker 1: It'll be good.
- 21:02Speaker 9: I'm all over these races now. Everybody calls in. What
- 21:05Speaker 9: should I do? Who should I talk to?
- 21:07Speaker 1: You? Very good?
- 21:08Speaker 2: Well, but Gary sladamyer Jim Rose in here for Jeens
- 21:11Speaker 2: author on the kfab comment line this.
- 21:14Speaker 3: Morning, here we go. We're gonna go to Lieutenant Dan.
- 21:16Speaker 3: I don't know if this is a Forrest Gump reference.
- 21:18Speaker 3: I think it's legitimate. Lieutenant Dan, thank you for the
- 21:21Speaker 3: call this morning. You're live on KFAB.
- 21:24Speaker 10: Hey, good morning, guys. I'm just going to give your
- 21:26Speaker 10: heads up. We were thinking about going down to Oklahoma
- 21:29Speaker 10: City to the softball game, but my buddy checks on it.
- 21:33Speaker 11: They don't play till eight thirty and then they're in
- 21:36Speaker 11: a thunderstorm watch.
- 21:38Speaker 10: It looks like so that courts the midnight before they play.
- 21:41Speaker 10: So if people are thinking about going, they might want
- 21:44Speaker 10: to check with their good old weather guy and make
- 21:46Speaker 10: sure that they don't have to stay till midnight like
- 21:49Speaker 10: we did for a Nebraska eighty.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Well that's part of the country. You know, these tournaments
- 21:52Speaker 1: this time of the year. You got it. You just
- 21:53Speaker 1: have to be ready for that. Tough love being a
- 21:56Speaker 1: football or a baseball softball fan this time here, because yeah,
- 21:58Speaker 1: weather can about your whole evening. And yet that's kind
- 22:03Speaker 1: of the nature of it. They do an unbelievable job
- 22:05Speaker 1: at Oklahoma City and this event. It's a little bit
- 22:08Speaker 1: like what Omaha does with the College World Series. They
- 22:11Speaker 1: make it a really community event. They have the teams
- 22:14Speaker 1: all over town doing stuff, the service clubs and the
- 22:17Speaker 1: kids come out really support it. Oh you is not
- 22:20Speaker 1: in it this year, so you know, we'll see how
- 22:22Speaker 1: the attendance looks. For the women's softball World Nebraska is
- 22:26Speaker 1: the number one national See they reseeded. Once you get
- 22:29Speaker 1: to the series, they have a very very legitimate chance
- 22:33Speaker 1: to win the national title. Do they have a better
- 22:37Speaker 1: chance of winning the national title than the volleyball team did?
- 22:41Speaker 1: The answer would be nuts. But it's in the neighborhood.
- 22:45Speaker 1: They just have They just have and they have the
- 22:47Speaker 1: one player and I know that it's a team sport,
- 22:50Speaker 1: but they have the one player who's been there. You
- 22:53Speaker 1: know she has won two national titles, and that kind
- 22:58Speaker 1: of experience is in val when you have a player
- 23:01Speaker 1: that is so critical man, and she's neat, and she's
- 23:05Speaker 1: a wonderful person, and she's obviously a great, great player,
- 23:08Speaker 1: but she's a really fine person. And if you get
- 23:12Speaker 1: those two things together, you have Eric Crouch. You know,
- 23:15Speaker 1: you have somebody who's committed their time to serving the
- 23:19Speaker 1: people that made their lives so wonderful when they were playing.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Near as I can tell, I haven't had the pleasure
- 23:25Speaker 2: of meeting Jeordi, but as near as I can tell,
- 23:28Speaker 2: and I know Eric, they're very down to earth people.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Yes, both of them. Yes, I mean Eric, I don't
- 23:34Speaker 1: know if he's got a shred of ego. He's amazing,
- 23:37Speaker 1: He's he's so giving. He yeah, I mean, this guy is,
- 23:41Speaker 1: he's amazing. His generosity is it's unbelievable. You just you
- 23:47Speaker 1: don't see that in people who have reached the rare
- 23:50Speaker 1: fight air that he has. And I think Jordi from
- 23:53Speaker 1: is in the same place. Oh we got a Trump
- 23:55Speaker 1: haters callee. Good morning.
- 24:00Speaker 11: Hello, Hey, it's your DT from Julian.
- 24:07Speaker 7: But I'm in Olympia, Washington now visiting my granddaughter.
- 24:10Speaker 4: Ah, now you're not a d.
- 24:13Speaker 7: There's a little freer out here.
- 24:14Speaker 11: There aren't as many potentially hateful reds.
- 24:19Speaker 7: But you know, I still love Nebraska.
- 24:21Speaker 1: You're fine, You're good, you get slack.
- 24:25Speaker 7: Good good. I just want to tell you that I'm
- 24:28Speaker 7: glad to hear Gary's voice and Jim you guys both
- 24:31Speaker 7: together again.
- 24:32Speaker 1: That's fun.
- 24:33Speaker 7: Than We have a Lynn Walls sign in our yard
- 24:36Speaker 7: and no one has has.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Torn it down yet. They're not going to do that.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Lynn's a good person, she is a friend. She's a
- 24:45Speaker 1: good person, and she's capable of individual and she's probably
- 24:48Speaker 1: got a game plan that is pretty sound.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Uh.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Most Democrats, as we know in Nebraska, that you go
- 24:55Speaker 1: to die. But this will be the ti this will
- 24:58Speaker 1: be the tightest race. It's Bill Hopner lost to Mike
- 25:01Speaker 1: Johanneson ninety eight. It'll probably be within ten points. And
- 25:05Speaker 1: it's because there are people that are thinking at all
- 25:08Speaker 1: if Jimbo is going to deliver on all of his promises,
- 25:12Speaker 1: and you know, this is not a doorknob that he's
- 25:15Speaker 1: going up against. This is a legitimately capable leader and
- 25:19Speaker 1: policy gal and experienced and uh, somebody offers a nice
- 25:24Speaker 1: alternative to some of the people they've trotted out over
- 25:27Speaker 1: the years.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Oh, yes, Elena is not one of those's army dean. Okay,
- 25:33Speaker 2: I don't know. You know, may you make your own
- 25:35Speaker 2: decision on who to vote for based on their policies.
- 25:38Speaker 2: But at least you have two candidates here who are legit.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Oh very you know she's she's very legit. Now you
- 25:45Speaker 1: can argue. Look, her record will be exposed by Jim's campaign.
- 25:49Speaker 1: I see. He's brought in a cabal of Trump people
- 25:52Speaker 1: from the Trump White House to run the show, which
- 25:55Speaker 1: is a really good idea. They know how to win,
- 25:58Speaker 1: and they know how to expose. They know how a
- 26:01Speaker 1: message to expose opponents. Uh, you know, but Jim's run
- 26:05Speaker 1: up against some headwinds and there is a revenue problem
- 26:08Speaker 1: in Nebraska right now. Blew through a lot of that
- 26:11Speaker 1: COVID money and started some projects and did some stuff
- 26:15Speaker 1: that I think down the road will pay off. But uh,
- 26:18Speaker 1: you know, to get the things done that he wants
- 26:20Speaker 1: to get done, you know he's gonna we're gonna have
- 26:23Speaker 1: to reform the tax code.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Now we haven't had a chance, Thank your name for
- 26:26Speaker 2: the call. We haven't had a chance to talk since
- 26:28Speaker 2: the election on the air since the election. But this
- 26:33Speaker 2: second district, that Denise Powell winning that Democratic nomination. Man,
- 26:38Speaker 2: you talk about the influence of money in politics. Nobody
- 26:43Speaker 2: knew her, had zero name recognition, but the millions that
- 26:47Speaker 2: came in got her over the hump. And and I
- 26:50Speaker 2: think the Democrats missed a bet here. I think they
- 26:53Speaker 2: missed a bit. This is she's she's going to be
- 26:55Speaker 2: a tough vote for any moderate. Well, but here's the thing, Conservatives, moderates,
- 27:01Speaker 2: Republicans have to get off the couch. You got to
- 27:03Speaker 2: go vote. Sure, Well, they missed about here. I thought
- 27:06Speaker 2: Keshla Atkins was a quality, smart candidate who just didn't
- 27:12Speaker 2: have the resources to push her name. Nobody kne who
- 27:16Speaker 2: she was either.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Well, but see the thing is, though Gere a lot
- 27:19Speaker 1: of people in the Democrats circles did know Denise Powell.
- 27:22Speaker 1: She for ten years had been she was behind the
- 27:25Speaker 1: scenes there. Ten years she'd been raising money and raising
- 27:30Speaker 1: votes and walking neighborhoods for female candidates for city council,
- 27:34Speaker 1: county board, school board legislatures. So the Democrat machine or machinery,
- 27:40Speaker 1: if you will, very familiar with Denise Powell yeah, so
- 27:44Speaker 1: I know.
- 27:44Speaker 2: That, but you're talking about tens of thousands of people.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Sure when it comes to voting, sure, no doubt. To
- 27:49Speaker 2: make your name known, and she got started early.
- 27:53Speaker 1: But I think also in the case of Crystal Roads,
- 27:57Speaker 1: Crystal has her base of ardent supporters who are with
- 28:01Speaker 1: her in the foxhole, but she was divisive in many
- 28:05Speaker 1: ways in that party. And John Cavanaugh, I mean to
- 28:10Speaker 1: be candid with you, I don't think he was a
- 28:12Speaker 1: very dynamic candidate. I don't think he was a great campaigner.
- 28:15Speaker 1: He might have been a little bit complacent because of
- 28:18Speaker 1: his family's name recognition. I think his sister's craziness hurt him.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Think I think that he probably took some things for
- 28:27Speaker 1: granted until the last several weeks he did, actually, I
- 28:30Speaker 1: think get hurt by those ads and didn't respond to those. So, yeah,
- 28:33Speaker 1: you know very quickly. But you know this woman and
- 28:37Speaker 1: I said it on the air when I think we
- 28:39Speaker 1: were still on the air, which she declared, this is
- 28:41Speaker 1: the one you need to worry about. And I think
- 28:44Speaker 1: I predicted then that she would win the nomination, and
- 28:46Speaker 1: I'm not predicting she'll win the election, but I think
- 28:48Speaker 1: it's going to be very very good.
- 28:50Speaker 2: It's going to be tough, but I'm telling you this,
- 28:52Speaker 2: this is over and over again. You don't have Don
- 28:56Speaker 2: Bacon though, right, you don't have Don Bacon who's going
- 28:58Speaker 2: to naturally appeal to a lot of moderate Democrats.
- 29:02Speaker 1: And I used the term loosely.
- 29:04Speaker 2: But but still, if Republicans, conservatives, moderates get up off
- 29:10Speaker 2: the couch independence break her wins, we don't do it. Well,
- 29:16Speaker 2: we didn't do it in Jean's race, and we did
- 29:18Speaker 2: not do it in this primary, partly because again well yeah,
- 29:23Speaker 2: Lincoln is that's a foreign country when it comes to
- 29:26Speaker 2: politics in this state.
- 29:27Speaker 12: Uh.
- 29:28Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean there were lots of reasons why
- 29:30Speaker 1: Republicans didn't show up in the spring that we hope
- 29:32Speaker 1: they do in the fall. Yeah. This kfa B comment
- 29:36Speaker 1: Line News Radio eleven to ten, kVA B and KVAB
- 29:38Speaker 1: dot Com. That's Gary Sadimaire. I'm Jim Rose. We're back
- 29:40Speaker 1: right after this.
- 29:41Speaker 3: This is the kfa B comment Line with your host
- 29:44Speaker 3: Gary Satilemaier. Jim Rose here filling in for jist author.
- 29:48Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 29:49Speaker 2: We got John on the phone. Hey John, good morning.
- 29:55Speaker 12: I hear Gary's voice. I'm a Ham radio operator. And
- 30:00Speaker 12: I was talking to a guy in Ohio this morning
- 30:03Speaker 12: and he was talking about, then we're down to one
- 30:06Speaker 12: hundred days until September fifth, the beginning of the korn
- 30:11Speaker 12: Oscar football season. I think of Gary's voice, and I
- 30:15Speaker 12: think of the Corn Oscar football season. Anyways, he lost
- 30:20Speaker 12: an arguing he's score up and down that the Buck
- 30:23Speaker 12: guys were coming to Lincoln on September fifth, and I said, no,
- 30:29Speaker 12: I don't think that's right. I think it's the Bobcat
- 30:32Speaker 12: and it's an honor. It's the Buck guys and we're
- 30:35Speaker 12: gonna be there in Lincoln. And so anyways, we're back
- 30:38Speaker 12: and forth, but I won. Finally it's the Bobcats on
- 30:42Speaker 12: September fifth. But it is one hundred days and counting
- 30:46Speaker 12: to the beginning of the Cornhoska football So I just
- 30:49Speaker 12: wanted to say gold, big.
- 30:51Speaker 1: Red, thank you. John.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Are you a football only guy or are you into
- 30:53Speaker 2: the baseball, softball, and volleyball?
- 30:56Speaker 12: No, I only have enough energy for football. With that involved,
- 31:03Speaker 12: I'm a movie to Nebraska. I learned about Nebraska and
- 31:09Speaker 12: Corn football from Gary Satami or so it's nice to
- 31:13Speaker 12: hear your thanks.
- 31:13Speaker 1: Man, appreciate it. John, Okay, a AB comment line.
- 31:17Speaker 2: It's Saturday here for Jeans Doth and Chip Maxwell's back
- 31:22Speaker 2: in there tomorrow and then Jean's back next week. Hey,
- 31:24Speaker 2: I want to get to something before I forget, because
- 31:26Speaker 2: I didn't get to it my last day Rosie back
- 31:31Speaker 2: in December, and I realized after that I hadn't done.
- 31:34Speaker 2: I've been collecting these candidates for Story of the Year
- 31:38Speaker 2: twenty twenty five and I didn't award the grand prize.
- 31:44Speaker 2: I'll start with third prize.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:47Speaker 2: This is from August eleventh, twenty twenty five. A naked
- 31:50Speaker 2: man towing a stolen motorcycle was arrested in Madison County.
- 31:56Speaker 2: Sheriff's deputy attempt at a traffic stop of a pickup truck
- 31:58Speaker 2: pulling a trailer without functioning lights. The vehicle eventually pulled over.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Deputy found forty seven year old Kip Polston of Iowa naked,
- 32:08Speaker 2: using a pair of pants to cover his shame. He
- 32:11Speaker 2: told the deputy that he was hot and allergic to
- 32:14Speaker 2: his own sweat.
- 32:14Speaker 1: That's number three, so in a sending order, that's the
- 32:18Speaker 1: bronze medal.
- 32:20Speaker 2: Silver medal goes to the story from a June twenty
- 32:23Speaker 2: ninth last year, a drunk Lincoln man allegedly pointed a
- 32:30Speaker 2: gun at his neighbor and shot himself in the leg.
- 32:36Speaker 2: They say he smelled of alcohol. What a surprise and
- 32:38Speaker 2: a grand champion here, gold Medal story of the Year
- 32:41Speaker 2: for twenty twenty five. I knew this was going to
- 32:45Speaker 2: be tough when it popped up in the news April
- 32:48Speaker 2: twenty second, a year ago. Excuse me, two separate calls
- 32:52Speaker 2: involving naked adult males causing a disturbance over the weekend.
- 32:57Speaker 2: The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says they were exhibiting signs
- 33:01Speaker 2: of excited delirium and speaking gibberish. I only bring this
- 33:09Speaker 2: up because nobody died. They believe the men consumed locally
- 33:12Speaker 2: purchased THHC products. Medical professionals to old deputies that the
- 33:17Speaker 2: symptoms mirrored those of a person who had ingested PCP.
- 33:21Speaker 2: Sheriff's office is investigating the case to determine where the
- 33:24Speaker 2: products were purchased and if any illegal or undisclosed compounds
- 33:27Speaker 2: were added. Two naked guys speaking gibberish in separate calls
- 33:33Speaker 2: that they weren't together.
- 33:36Speaker 1: In stead to qualify, you really got to be naked to.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Close the deal with with with intoxicating substances and getting naked?
- 33:43Speaker 1: What is the deal with that? I mean in public,
- 33:46Speaker 1: I can see it. In private, usually there's meth involved.
- 33:50Speaker 1: Usually you're going to trace something to meth amphetamines if
- 33:53Speaker 1: you're naked or you're walking around without pants. Unfinished business.
- 33:58Speaker 1: That was very good. Thanks for Claire that up.
- 34:00Speaker 4: I'm glad we got to the bottom of that. We
- 34:01Speaker 4: could award some winners there.
- 34:03Speaker 2: This is to be collecting them for this, I thought
- 34:05Speaker 2: the one most ridiculous one I heard this week. Yesterday,
- 34:11Speaker 2: it seems like the city of Lincoln had a problem
- 34:14Speaker 2: opening most of the pools because overcrowding and excessive heat.
- 34:20Speaker 2: Wait a minute, and some infrastructure I'd left.
- 34:26Speaker 1: I'd leave the heat part out of overcrowding maybe, but
- 34:29Speaker 1: got to get some more lived.
- 34:30Speaker 2: Yeah, don't they have a count? You can't come in
- 34:32Speaker 2: anymore because we're full. Maybe excessive heat Wait till we
- 34:37Speaker 2: get one hundred and five in July?
- 34:38Speaker 1: Right? All right? Kidding?
- 34:39Speaker 3: Four zero, two, five, five, eight eleven ten is the
- 34:42Speaker 3: phone number? Anything goes? This morning? This came in the
- 34:45Speaker 3: email inbox comment at kfab from Mark Hi Jimm and Gary,
- 34:49Speaker 3: why do all these kids have electric bikes? They also
- 34:52Speaker 3: don't know the rules of the roads. When I was
- 34:55Speaker 3: a kid I'm forty two now, a regular bike helped
- 34:58Speaker 3: me get into shape as I was the fat kid.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Well, I got the electric bikes and the and these scooters.
- 35:04Speaker 2: All the young kids, little kids are right around neighborhoods,
- 35:07Speaker 2: and I worry about them. Yeah, because they don't. They don't.
- 35:12Speaker 2: They'll blow through stop signs and uh, and they're all
- 35:16Speaker 2: over the place and they're fast. And then they head
- 35:18Speaker 2: up to a main a main artery and yeah, they're
- 35:21Speaker 2: going to the postil residential areas.
- 35:23Speaker 1: We have that problem these uh, motorized little scooters or
- 35:26Speaker 1: mini bikes or whatever they are, and they're going faster
- 35:29Speaker 1: than they're supposed to go. And yeah, you're right. They
- 35:31Speaker 1: don't pay attention to you know, some road rules or
- 35:34Speaker 1: road signs. Uh. It just states back to parents. You
- 35:38Speaker 1: know what, why would a parent buy a kid a
- 35:40Speaker 1: motorized bike when a regular bike is better for him
- 35:45Speaker 1: on four or five different levels. But that's their choice.
- 35:50Speaker 1: There's no law. There's no law against bad parenting. We
- 35:54Speaker 1: have bad parents, but there's no law against it. So unfortunately,
- 35:59Speaker 1: this is this is what we're dealing with now. So
- 36:01Speaker 1: society has to fix the problem that should be fixed
- 36:03Speaker 1: at home.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Well, I don't know if they're bad parents. Necessarily, we
- 36:07Speaker 2: shouldn't their kids. I mean, they shouldn't have little kids
- 36:09Speaker 2: on motorized bikes. Little kids in my neighborhood, for exam,
- 36:12Speaker 2: one family, a great family. They got strict rules. I
- 36:16Speaker 2: got the little bitty scooters where they can go and
- 36:19Speaker 2: where they can't go. But most a lot of them,
- 36:21Speaker 2: I will say most a lot of them. I see, man,
- 36:23Speaker 2: they're just racing down the sidewalk. Yeah, I don't like it. Yeah,
- 36:28Speaker 2: and it like this fat kid said, you know, it
- 36:31Speaker 2: got me in s Yeah, I mean it's good for you.
- 36:35Speaker 1: At last report, childhood obesity is only an epidemic. Riding
- 36:39Speaker 1: bike was fun, It was fun, it was great. You know,
- 36:42Speaker 1: it was inexpensive. It didn't usually kill you like a
- 36:46Speaker 1: motorized bicycle. Yeah. Yeah.
- 36:48Speaker 2: I tried to kill myself a couple of times on
- 36:51Speaker 2: a motorcycle, and.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Grace to god, it didn't.
- 36:56Speaker 2: But yeah, you start adding you start adding motors to
- 36:59Speaker 2: these things.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Yeah, especially if you're not trained. You don't know, I mean,
- 37:03Speaker 1: you're just a kid, it's like riding a bike, but
- 37:04Speaker 1: he's got a motor on it.
- 37:06Speaker 2: Now, this was actually this near death experience was actually
- 37:09Speaker 2: on a motorcycle, not at the Low Diablos club.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Ah, thank you. What's going on?
- 37:14Speaker 2: Glad that you stayed away from there? Well, that was
- 37:17Speaker 2: back in Minnesota. We didn't have a lot of motorcycle clubs.
- 37:19Speaker 1: Ten fifty three in the morning, eleven ten KFB. Here's Dave. Hi, Dave,
- 37:22Speaker 1: you're on eleven ten KVAB.
- 37:25Speaker 11: Well, let's go back about fifty four years. I'm working
- 37:29Speaker 11: for a construction company downtown Omaha. They just built a
- 37:34Speaker 11: new addition to the County Courthouse City County Building, and
- 37:40Speaker 11: we're digging up the streets all the way around it,
- 37:44Speaker 11: the new pavement down, and we come across what I
- 37:47Speaker 11: thought of railroad tracks, And I asked the oldest guy
- 37:51Speaker 11: on our crew, I said, what railroad you strung through
- 37:54Speaker 11: your here goes No, there are street.
- 37:56Speaker 1: Street cars, streetcar rails.
- 37:58Speaker 8: It's a streetcar rail.
- 38:00Speaker 11: Seriously, Yeah, it was better than horseback. But once the
- 38:04Speaker 11: car came out, we didn't really need street cars anymore.
- 38:10Speaker 1: Full circuit.
- 38:10Speaker 11: I can only imagine, I can imagine fifty years from now,
- 38:16Speaker 11: maybe my great grandson's down there working and they're digging
- 38:20Speaker 11: up real.
- 38:23Speaker 1: I'd you're like an archaeological dig. Look, this is seven
- 38:26Speaker 1: hundred million dollars worth of hood ornaments, and it's not
- 38:31Speaker 1: gonna take people to critical places. It's gonna haul you
- 38:35Speaker 1: around for fun on Friday and Saturday nights. Initially. Now, eventually,
- 38:40Speaker 1: if a lot of people move downtown, which is a
- 38:42Speaker 1: big if. I mean you drive around the outskirts of town,
- 38:46Speaker 1: you see housing developments going up twenty five miles thirty
- 38:48Speaker 1: miles from downtown. People are living in those homes. But
- 38:52Speaker 1: you see it downtown too, well, you do see more.
- 38:55Speaker 1: It's it's it's a in progress project. It's a strategic plan.
- 39:00Speaker 1: They don't have everything you need. You don't have doctor's offices,
- 39:03Speaker 1: you don't have dentist offices, and they don't have grocery stores.
- 39:06Speaker 1: You don't have the things that people need in their neighborhoods.
- 39:09Speaker 1: But you're hoping the twenty five years from now the
- 39:12Speaker 1: community will gravitate toward you know, urban living, and then
- 39:16Speaker 1: they can justify expanding the street car. But you know,
- 39:20Speaker 1: if you have a kid and you live downtown, they
- 39:23Speaker 1: can't walk to a grade school in downtown Omaha. Somehow
- 39:27Speaker 1: they have to have the things that families need down there,
- 39:30Speaker 1: and maybe we don't have families down there, maybe to
- 39:32Speaker 1: just be I don't know people.
- 39:33Speaker 2: I don't see uh downtown and odo as a family
- 39:39Speaker 2: they do living that, I mean couple. Sure, I don't
- 39:42Speaker 2: see people with kids in large numbers living downtown Peyton.
- 39:48Speaker 2: You're twenty twenty five, twenty three, twenty four. Yeah, I'm
- 39:52Speaker 2: not down I'm not downtown.
- 39:53Speaker 1: Very well to live downtown. No, I have no desire.
- 39:56Speaker 4: That's a bad sign for that, you know.
- 39:58Speaker 3: I mean, I don't have any desire. What do we
- 40:00Speaker 3: not have west and south north that's not downtown.
- 40:05Speaker 1: See, communities like Omaha have become balkanized. You have sprawls
- 40:12Speaker 1: of communities popping up and there are services in that area.
- 40:16Speaker 1: And so people will live in an area very close
- 40:18Speaker 1: to a grocery store or convenience stores, or their restaurants
- 40:21Speaker 1: or maybe even their doctor's offics, maybe even their place
- 40:23Speaker 1: of work. And that's not going to change for multiple generations. No.
- 40:27Speaker 2: I was down there over the weekend, Rosie. I see
- 40:29Speaker 2: a lot of a lot of cool clubs and things
- 40:32Speaker 2: to do down there for say, kids, for young people
- 40:37Speaker 2: to do, and that's kind of been the vibe. This
- 40:39Speaker 2: is what what is it going to take to retain
- 40:41Speaker 2: people and attract young people. And there's a lot down
- 40:43Speaker 2: there for It's not for me, I'm one hundred and fifty,
- 40:46Speaker 2: but for those guys, well, I.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Like going down there. But it's that this is an
- 40:51Speaker 1: expensive ornament.
- 40:53Speaker 3: Yes, yes, and it's it's dangerous to be talking about
- 40:56Speaker 3: the street car with doubt. Jean's author here, but we
- 40:59Speaker 3: got about two minutes here, gentlemen, is there something else
- 41:01Speaker 3: we want to talk about?
- 41:02Speaker 1: Get to a phone line, Lisa, go ahead, you're on
- 41:04Speaker 1: eleven ten k if this is the KFA B comment line.
- 41:07Speaker 1: What's your comment? Please? Hello, Lisa, Lisa shy Lisa, Lisa
- 41:16Speaker 1: lost her chance. Here we go, Scott, your life got okay? Work?
- 41:24Speaker 1: It appears to me we have a telephone technical.
- 41:26Speaker 4: Living internet one phone number two? What else?
- 41:29Speaker 1: What else?
- 41:30Speaker 4: Can can everyone hear us out there? Check? Check? We live?
- 41:32Speaker 1: I wonder if we're on? Yeah? Ever? Wonder? All right, Satura,
- 41:37Speaker 1: it's always around. Yeah, you feel free to continue to
- 41:41Speaker 1: come by. Unlike most former employees, we really like seeing you. Wow,
- 41:46Speaker 1: that's very nice of you. You bring a joy to
- 41:48Speaker 1: the place. A little extra bounce in the step. Now
- 41:52Speaker 1: it's getting deep. It's true.
- 41:55Speaker 2: Well, thank you, I enjoyed. I come in here usually
- 41:57Speaker 2: about once a week or so. Glad hang out a
- 42:00Speaker 2: little bit. Jeane will be back Monday. Meanwhile, the Chip's
- 42:04Speaker 2: back tomorrow on Friday. Close out the week.
- 42:06Speaker 1: Chip Maxwell, Yeah, he'll do his homilies for the next
- 42:09Speaker 1: couple of days and then we'll all be sufficiently brainwashed
- 42:12Speaker 1: and ready to jump on board anytime. Don't forget Chip's podcast,
- 42:18Speaker 1: Check with Chip, Check.
- 42:18Speaker 2: With Chip okayavb dot com. He wants to turn the
- 42:21Speaker 2: blue dout.
- 42:22Speaker 1: He still sore about the seventy nine State high school
- 42:24Speaker 1: basketball tournament, which he can suck on that rest.
- 42:29Speaker 2: And then Fox Heay Baby news updates and Clan Buck
- 42:32Speaker 2: Brinker is going to be on with Clan Buck today.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Thanks for everything, Peyton and Rosie has a lot of fun.
