- 0:05Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett.
- 0:11Speaker 2: All right, well we're back here on one leg up
- 0:13Speaker 2: Alex Network. I gotta tell you we have some interesting
- 0:15Speaker 2: news to tell you. And lou Terminola love this. Since
- 0:19Speaker 2: we got to fifty thousand downloads in the last thirty days,
- 0:21Speaker 2: another thousand of you have downloaded, so I don't think
- 0:24Speaker 2: I've ever peaked at one thousand downloads for a month.
- 0:27Speaker 2: I think terminal Hostak's playing a big role in that. Louis,
- 0:30Speaker 2: so thank you as always for helping me continue this
- 0:33Speaker 2: content here.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Well, Alex, I've good to be with you and any
- 0:37Speaker 1: contribution I can make, but it's your talent. You're the
- 0:40Speaker 1: talented guy here. So but I'm glad that I contributed
- 0:44Speaker 1: any any way I can.
- 0:45Speaker 2: You know, I know I was waiting to see what
- 0:48Speaker 2: would happen this series. Look, and Yankee Beans are not
- 0:51Speaker 2: gonna like me for saying this, and I'm not usually pessimistic,
- 0:54Speaker 2: but the way the Jays and Yanks played in the
- 0:57Speaker 2: regular season, I'm very low. As you know, expert tations
- 1:00Speaker 2: burthers round and I would say this could have been avoided. Right,
- 1:05Speaker 2: you get the bases loaded on the top of the
- 1:07Speaker 2: fifth with nobody out in one run. That was really
- 1:11Speaker 2: the beginning of the end of the series and why
- 1:13Speaker 2: it was only game one, well, because they had to
- 1:15Speaker 2: convert when they had the chance against the Jay's team
- 1:18Speaker 2: that has the offense that could carry them to the
- 1:19Speaker 2: World Series.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Alex, You're right, that was the the key inning, that
- 1:27Speaker 1: was the turning point of the series, when the Yankees
- 1:30Speaker 1: had it set up to get back into the U
- 1:32Speaker 1: into Game one, and they did score a run to
- 1:35Speaker 1: make it two to one, and then obviously the pitching
- 1:37Speaker 1: collapsed and they got they got overrun. But that was
- 1:42Speaker 1: the key at bat obviously, uh, with when Aaron Judge
- 1:46Speaker 1: had a chance to do something positive and he had
- 1:49Speaker 1: and he had a very good postseason. He didn't have
- 1:51Speaker 1: an iconic postseason or anything like that. But uh, you know,
- 1:57Speaker 1: the first uh uh, the first two games, the Yankees
- 2:02Speaker 1: got bombed. I mean, there's no other way to say it.
- 2:05Speaker 1: And again, Alex, as we sit here the day after
- 2:10Speaker 1: the Yankees are eliminated again as a team, they didn't hit.
- 2:14Speaker 1: They didn't hit in the postseason and Alex, they had
- 2:18Speaker 1: five of the seven playoff games that they played at
- 2:20Speaker 1: Yankees Stadium and they were only two and three at home.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Also the judge records. Okay, he did this on the
- 2:26Speaker 2: other first time thisince nineteen twenty eight. But you know
- 2:29Speaker 2: the fact is they only played let me check here,
- 2:33Speaker 2: three there and then for seven games. I mean, it's
- 2:36Speaker 2: not like it's not like they went all the way
- 2:38Speaker 2: and he had this ruthian postseason. It's just very weird
- 2:41Speaker 2: to make that comparison for an Alds exit.
- 2:45Speaker 1: You know, as the Yankees. Has the Yankees now faced
- 2:50Speaker 1: the offseason, Alex, there's a lot of questions. I mean, obviously,
- 2:53Speaker 1: the Yankees are always good. The Yankees have made the
- 2:56Speaker 1: playoffs twenty six out last thirty one years. They haven't
- 2:59Speaker 1: had a losing season in for twenty seven years.
- 3:04Speaker 2: They started thirty three straight years with the non losing season.
- 3:07Speaker 1: But right, it's thirty three straight years since nineteen I
- 3:11Speaker 1: think nineteen ninety two was the last year, so it's
- 3:13Speaker 1: thirty three. I was never I was never good at math.
- 3:17Speaker 2: It's just it's annoying because it just feels like another
- 3:20Speaker 2: October down the tubes where they just do not win
- 3:24Speaker 2: a ring. And when my dad was alive, he keep counting,
- 3:27Speaker 2: doubt Well, it's another year since two thousand and nine,
- 3:30Speaker 2: it's ten years, it's eleven years. That was seventeen years
- 3:34Speaker 2: going on without a ring. It's very frustrating. I know
- 3:37Speaker 2: you're a Met fan and you probably like the chaos,
- 3:39Speaker 2: but I just I think it's very sad because they
- 3:43Speaker 2: have continually made the same mistakes. And lou you might agree,
- 3:46Speaker 2: you might disagree. This is the first postseason I felt like,
- 3:50Speaker 2: wasn't a different animal Every year they say, well, the
- 3:52Speaker 2: post is a different animal. Not for the Yankees. When
- 3:54Speaker 2: you play a couple of days later in the wild card,
- 3:56Speaker 2: when you could have had the division, when you blew
- 3:59Speaker 2: nine games, Devin Williams, I have to riff your Louise.
- 4:02Speaker 2: It's just it's it's there are so many things that
- 4:04Speaker 2: could have been avoided the season. Why did they keep
- 4:06Speaker 2: going to Williams. That's their first mistake into why they
- 4:09Speaker 2: didn't get the division and and now why they're out.
- 4:11Speaker 2: They didn't get the right positioning because of that mistake alone.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Louis, Well, everything you just said it's pretty accurate. So yeah,
- 4:19Speaker 1: this the regular season and the postseason in the Yankees case,
- 4:23Speaker 1: really wasn't two different things. There were, it was they weren't.
- 4:27Speaker 1: It wasn't two different animals. As he said, Uh, let's
- 4:32Speaker 1: face it, we said it before. The Yankees sometimes have
- 4:36Speaker 1: it and a lot of Don't get me wrong, a
- 4:37Speaker 1: lot of teams have this problem. But it seems like
- 4:40Speaker 1: the Yankees thrive against bad pitching and have trouble hitting
- 4:44Speaker 1: good pitching. But Alex, I mean, the Yankees have questions.
- 4:51Speaker 1: What are you gonna do with? Uh? With Anthony Volpi?
- 4:55Speaker 1: Is he the shortstop in twenty twenty six after a
- 4:58Speaker 1: horrific postseason. I'm I'm sure he's gonna need surgery on
- 5:01Speaker 1: the shoulder. But what do they do? I'm gonna say
- 5:05Speaker 1: that they're gonna go heavy after Dante Bichett. Uh Donte
- 5:09Speaker 1: Baschett's son, Bobbashek, Who's gonna be a free agent. He's
- 5:14Speaker 1: a tremendous player and he's gonna want a lot of money.
- 5:17Speaker 1: And that might be somebody the Yankees go after. Do
- 5:19Speaker 1: you think that that that's a possibility.
- 5:22Speaker 2: I do, because here's the other thing about this season
- 5:24Speaker 2: is they were, as I might have said to you
- 5:27Speaker 2: off air, they were one bat away from doing something big.
- 5:31Speaker 2: And you know, I think about this as well. La
- 5:34Speaker 2: Caberra made an impact on that team. He gets hurt
- 5:37Speaker 2: mid you know, in mayor around that time. Rest of
- 5:39Speaker 2: the seasons out for him with that injury, but they
- 5:43Speaker 2: never filled the void. I mean, I guess they tried to,
- 5:47Speaker 2: but they never could fill that bat and that was
- 5:49Speaker 2: pretty much a downfall. And then what's this one? Not
- 5:52Speaker 2: playing just San Domingos at all? In the post that
- 5:55Speaker 2: you I'm on the roster, he sitt there on the bench,
- 5:58Speaker 2: you bring him up to let where was his bats?
- 6:01Speaker 2: Like it just there were things that didn't make sense
- 6:03Speaker 2: to me all postseason and especially this round, like where
- 6:07Speaker 2: where was his bad they could have used him?
- 6:09Speaker 1: No, that's well, obviously he's a liability in the field,
- 6:13Speaker 1: and you know they had they were playing from left
- 6:18Speaker 1: to right, Bellinger, Gristram and Judge and Bellinger is you know,
- 6:23Speaker 1: and obviously twenty times the feel that the Mingas is
- 6:27Speaker 1: and even he made another great play last night. It's
- 6:29Speaker 1: gonna be interesting to see what the Yankees look like
- 6:33Speaker 1: come this offseason. Bellinger is a free agent. Obviously he's
- 6:36Speaker 1: gonna opt out. If he doesn't opt out, he's his
- 6:39Speaker 1: agent is giving him bad advice, because yeah, he was
- 6:42Speaker 1: the Yankee second best player after Judge. I wouldn't you know.
- 6:50Speaker 1: I've been a big Bellinger fan for years and I
- 6:52Speaker 1: would love to see the Mets get a guy like that.
- 6:55Speaker 1: But I think there's a chance the Yankees will re
- 6:58Speaker 1: sign Bellinger. There are other free agents, you know, the big,
- 7:04Speaker 1: the big names. Dent Williams. I thought for sure they
- 7:09Speaker 1: were not going to resign him. Now I would say
- 7:11Speaker 1: might be fifty to fifty. He wasn't terrible, you know,
- 7:14Speaker 1: the last six weeks, So I would say that's fifty
- 7:19Speaker 1: to fifty. I would be very, very very careful if
- 7:23Speaker 1: not only if it's the anser body who gives Trent
- 7:28Speaker 1: Grisham a lot of years and a lot of money. Uh,
- 7:32Speaker 1: fier beware. I don't I get more closer to the
- 7:36Speaker 1: nine home run guy he was last year than the
- 7:39Speaker 1: thirty four year old guy, thirty four year old, thirty
- 7:43Speaker 1: four homber guy he was this year. I'd be very
- 7:48Speaker 1: careful for anybody signing Trent Grisham. Is the Jones kids
- 7:53Speaker 1: going to come up? Spencer Jones is gonna come up
- 7:55Speaker 1: next year? I would I would assume that's a that's
- 7:59Speaker 1: a possibility where you play him. I don't know where
- 8:03Speaker 1: Lombard is at shortstop. I know he had an up
- 8:07Speaker 1: and down minor league season, so I don't know where
- 8:09Speaker 1: the Yankees UH look at him, But I haven't fit
- 8:13Speaker 1: the Yankees didn't go head after Bobashet I really do.
- 8:16Speaker 1: I mean the guy. The guy's led the American League
- 8:18Speaker 1: hits twice. He would have let again this year, but
- 8:22Speaker 1: he got hurt, missed the last three and a half weeks.
- 8:24Speaker 1: He averages like twenty four to twenty five home runs
- 8:26Speaker 1: a year. The only downside he hurt his knee in
- 8:30Speaker 1: September and he missed a lot of time last year,
- 8:32Speaker 1: and I forget with what injury, So that's the only
- 8:35Speaker 1: thing you might want to look at. But he's in
- 8:37Speaker 1: a physical prime of his life, his athletic life, twenty
- 8:40Speaker 1: seven years old. So I think that's a possibility for
- 8:44Speaker 1: the Yankees in in twenty twenty six.
- 8:49Speaker 2: You may vallid pointier about the free agent market because
- 8:52Speaker 2: they didn't They didn't really do much. Yeah, Bellinger was big,
- 8:54Speaker 2: but they didn't do much last year in the free
- 8:56Speaker 2: agent market that had I'm gonna keep saying talker hands.
- 9:00Speaker 2: That was a big not getting him. I thought they
- 9:03Speaker 2: could have used him, uh this season as well. But
- 9:06Speaker 2: they didn't get.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Strengthen their pitching staff by by signing a Max Freed
- 9:11Speaker 1: and with the with the Garrett Cole injury. Can you
- 9:15Speaker 1: Max he didn't have Max Freed this year? Yeah? I know,
- 9:17Speaker 1: he you know, he got blasted on Sunday. But obviously
- 9:22Speaker 1: he's a he's.
- 9:23Speaker 2: A he was a ninety game winner. I think he's
- 9:25Speaker 2: a cy Young contender.
- 9:26Speaker 1: But there he's got a lot of cy Young votes.
- 9:29Speaker 2: He also overcame a blister injury which did set him
- 9:31Speaker 2: back a little bit. And uh, and we'll have to see.
- 9:35Speaker 1: The next year is gonna be very good again? That
- 9:39Speaker 1: is gonna got you know in June. I guess uh,
- 9:45Speaker 1: in June he's gonna have Max Freed. You know, I'm
- 9:47Speaker 1: no fan of Carlos Rodin, but he's there again. He
- 9:51Speaker 1: let them down in a big spot, you know, Cam
- 9:55Speaker 1: Schlitler has. You know, I was really impressed with him
- 9:59Speaker 1: last night, more so than I was against the Red Sox.
- 10:02Speaker 2: First, when he keeps flat in the park, that was
- 10:05Speaker 2: a big deal to He didn't have his.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Best stuff and he was able to pitch effectively without
- 10:11Speaker 1: his best stuff, so that that impressed me. He'll be
- 10:16Speaker 1: in rotation Uh. So the Yankees starting pitching is going
- 10:19Speaker 1: to be good. It's these holes in the back. What
- 10:23Speaker 1: do you do with jazz? With with jazz Chisholm, he
- 10:25Speaker 1: has one elect on his deal. Do they trade him
- 10:28Speaker 1: or put them out there for trade?
- 10:30Speaker 2: Uh?
- 10:33Speaker 1: I don't know. Uh, that's gonna be interesting. This is
- 10:39Speaker 1: gonna be a very interesting off off season for uh,
- 10:43Speaker 1: for the Yankees. But again this is the I mean, look,
- 10:47Speaker 1: the Yankees struck out sixty six times in seven games
- 10:52Speaker 1: and Toronto was only second in the league in fewer
- 10:58Speaker 1: strikeouts for their for the batters, uh, in this series
- 11:02Speaker 1: against the Yankees, in the four games they got eighteen hits,
- 11:05Speaker 1: Toronto did with two strikes on them. So it's you know,
- 11:13Speaker 1: it was not it was not. It's you know, you
- 11:16Speaker 1: could talk about high Volaia home runs. Strikeouts don't mean nothing.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Strikeouts uh uh and ground outs are the same. No,
- 11:24Speaker 1: you don't. You want to put the ball in play
- 11:26Speaker 1: because you never know what's gonna happen. Look what happened
- 11:29Speaker 1: last night. That was a tough play for chishm last
- 11:33Speaker 1: night on that that hard hit ground ball. By the way,
- 11:36Speaker 1: that's an error. Yes, I agree, that was scored an error,
- 11:39Speaker 1: but they gave they gave a jazz and eerror on
- 11:42Speaker 1: that play. But during last week on that pop up,
- 11:45Speaker 1: they gave Judge a hit. But that's the I just
- 11:50Speaker 1: don't get that one. But whatever, But the Yankees will
- 11:53Speaker 1: always be good. Uh, you know was the primary difference maker.
- 11:59Speaker 1: And and uh and Ernie Clement. I mean that's a
- 12:04Speaker 1: guy who's you know, he's a hell of a player, and.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Uh he is.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Go all the way.
- 12:14Speaker 2: He's the most Eddicadian name of that that's for sure.
- 12:16Speaker 2: But uh, I gotta I gotta say this. How about
- 12:19Speaker 2: Alejandra Kirk What a what a series he had as well?
- 12:21Speaker 2: I mean, that guy has been solid for Toronto. The
- 12:24Speaker 2: only thing I thought about going into this lowligue was, well,
- 12:29Speaker 2: how did the Jays end up slipping to the point
- 12:31Speaker 2: of coming down to that final day against the Yankees.
- 12:35Speaker 2: I mean, they did not have a great second half either,
- 12:38Speaker 2: so I did think while they were overmatched, I thought
- 12:41Speaker 2: about it a little bit more so.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Well so again, second half, Alex, I don't mean, I'm sorry,
- 12:48Speaker 1: I don't mean to interrupted you. They had a great
- 12:50Speaker 1: second half. They didn't have a great second half of
- 12:52Speaker 1: the month of September. You know, they they went one
- 12:55Speaker 1: and six and the Yankees won seven in a row,
- 12:57Speaker 1: and that's where the Yankees tied them. But fortunately they
- 13:01Speaker 1: were one in eight against the Jays in Toronto this year,
- 13:04Speaker 1: and that's what cost the Yankees a chance to have
- 13:07Speaker 1: the buye so again Toronto. I the Bassett injury is
- 13:15Speaker 1: gonna hurt them in the next round if he can't pitch,
- 13:18Speaker 1: and he hasn't pitched since like September twentieth. I don't
- 13:24Speaker 1: know how they got away pitching eight pitchers last night.
- 13:27Speaker 1: None of them pitched for more than five outs. When
- 13:30Speaker 1: you get eight pitchers all to pitch effectively. And remember
- 13:33Speaker 1: the Yankees had two hits until the eighth inning. That
- 13:40Speaker 1: that's not gonna happen too often for the Jays, so
- 13:43Speaker 1: we'll see. I think they rather played Detroit. I am
- 13:48Speaker 1: shock Detroit came back from that three nothing deficit because
- 13:52Speaker 1: they can hit, and then they explode for nine runs.
- 13:55Speaker 1: And they got the best pitcher in baseball going for
- 13:58Speaker 1: them tomorrow night, and Tarik's troubol. I don't like the
- 14:02Speaker 1: Tigers team. I thought that Seattle would finish them off
- 14:08Speaker 1: yesterday and now the pressure all of it. Alex is on.
- 14:12Speaker 1: This is on the Seattle Mariners tomorrow night. They have
- 14:15Speaker 1: my gun.
- 14:15Speaker 2: They could have put them away into kright, and they
- 14:18Speaker 2: just could not. And you know I I are they
- 14:21Speaker 2: sorry wo tomorrow. I don't even know where they're really
- 14:23Speaker 2: starting tomorrow, but.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Not a George Kirby.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Well that's that's just my move. But I'll tell you
- 14:30Speaker 2: the kitchen staff is uh is the main reason why
- 14:34Speaker 2: Seattle got to where they're at as well, So it's'll
- 14:36Speaker 2: be a bit of a duel. I think I think
- 14:39Speaker 2: if you're your Toronto, if you're Seattle, if you move on,
- 14:43Speaker 2: I think you have bigger, bigger things in your horizon.
- 14:46Speaker 2: I really do think they can beat Toronto. I might
- 14:49Speaker 2: be wrong with that, but I just I think they
- 14:52Speaker 2: can contain, uh, contain the Blue Jays. But then again,
- 14:56Speaker 2: the Blue Jays bats look caught right now. So we'll
- 14:59Speaker 2: have to say, hey, Lou, I gotta ask you this.
- 15:02Speaker 1: And I don't know.
- 15:07Speaker 2: On the other side of this, on the n L side,
- 15:10Speaker 2: I would love and I know you're not a Philly fan,
- 15:12Speaker 2: but because what happened to the Dodgers. With the Dodgers
- 15:15Speaker 2: last year, I would love for them to come back
- 15:17Speaker 2: win tonight and then not come out in Philly on Saturday.
- 15:21Speaker 2: I just don't know if it's gonna happen. But the
- 15:24Speaker 2: the NL lopside in this, I guess more with the Brewers,
- 15:28Speaker 2: Cubs surprised me a little bit. More like I did
- 15:30Speaker 2: not expect the Cubs to go down O two, maybe
- 15:32Speaker 2: split in Milwaukee, but they just the Brewers are continuing
- 15:36Speaker 2: their hots streak as well.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Yeah, there are two evenly matched teams, the Cubs and
- 15:43Speaker 1: the Brewers. As Alex, Now, this is why last week
- 15:47Speaker 1: made we made predictions, and we usually don't make prediction
- 15:49Speaker 1: on the show. So I said the Yankees were gonna
- 15:51Speaker 1: win four, they lost them four. And uh, I thought
- 15:54Speaker 1: the Cubs would would would would beat the Brewers. They
- 15:57Speaker 1: could be over tonight. So that's why we don't make
- 15:59Speaker 1: for addictions on Terminello's take very often. But I think
- 16:06Speaker 1: the Cubs can bounce back and go to to tonight.
- 16:09Speaker 1: I would be surprised if the Phillies do. And the
- 16:11Speaker 1: Phillies have the second best team after the Dodgers in
- 16:14Speaker 1: my opinion. But uh, and you said, I have no
- 16:20Speaker 1: love for the Phillies yet, but I don't care about
- 16:21Speaker 1: the Dodgers either, I really, really, uh you know, I
- 16:26Speaker 1: don't care if the Dodgers win or not. I was
- 16:29Speaker 1: surprised that that that the Dodgers got pummeled at home
- 16:32Speaker 1: last night, and uh so it will be interesting. Both
- 16:35Speaker 1: of these games are going to be interesting tonight, that's
- 16:38Speaker 1: for sure.
- 16:40Speaker 2: So I definitely want to do a bigger deep dive
- 16:43Speaker 2: on the series and do a deeper dive for the
- 16:45Speaker 2: free agents for the Yankees, because I'll tell you, last
- 16:48Speaker 2: time I said any advice, which was just on me
- 16:51Speaker 2: is leading off. They listened in the one five games
- 16:54Speaker 2: in a row, So maybe I could channel that energy.
- 16:56Speaker 2: I don't know if you know this story, but one
- 16:59Speaker 2: of the five days of the year many years ago,
- 17:01Speaker 2: George Simonds sent me home with a list of free
- 17:04Speaker 2: agents to look at and told me to get back
- 17:06Speaker 2: to them on it. So maybe I'm feeling that energy again.
- 17:10Speaker 2: And that's gonna be my twenty fifth full season involved
- 17:14Speaker 2: with the Yankees, which I can't believe how time's flying.
- 17:17Speaker 2: But maybe twenty five seasons we'll get into a ring.
- 17:19Speaker 2: I would love that to mark that anniversary with the ring.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Yep. Well, we'll see, we'll see what happens. Obviously, I
- 17:28Speaker 1: hope another New York team wins the ring first, but
- 17:31Speaker 1: we'll worry about that later.
- 17:35Speaker 2: All right, well, let me let me tell you this
- 17:36Speaker 2: about the series. One more thing is and as you
- 17:40Speaker 2: can tell, I haven't talk about this on my show,
- 17:42Speaker 2: so I need to get all this out there. Two
- 17:45Speaker 2: thousand and seven Alds feels exactly like it did. Now, Okay,
- 17:48Speaker 2: so Yangs go down two, come back, win that one game,
- 17:52Speaker 2: then the next night it's over, and or do they
- 17:56Speaker 2: lose in five? It was. It was a rough series
- 17:58Speaker 2: against Cleveland and seven and then they fired Tori. Now
- 18:01Speaker 2: I don't think Boone. I don't know what's kind of
- 18:03Speaker 2: with Boone, but I just get that feeling of the
- 18:05Speaker 2: two thousand and seven Alds all over again, like there's
- 18:08Speaker 2: got to be some changes coming after the series.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Well, I mean I think, yeah, they'll be changes. They're
- 18:15Speaker 1: gonna be changes to the roster. They like I said,
- 18:17Speaker 1: they might bring up some of these guys if they
- 18:19Speaker 1: think they're ready for the major leagues, like Jones, like Lombard.
- 18:24Speaker 1: I don't know, you know, Aaron Boone said postgame, and
- 18:28Speaker 1: I was watching post game that it's been a very
- 18:30Speaker 1: tough year for him personally. Now, I don't know what
- 18:34Speaker 1: that means. Not professional he said personally, Maybe he meant professionally.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Maybe maybe you know, some guys will just get burned
- 18:43Speaker 1: out and he might just say, hey, you know, I want
- 18:46Speaker 1: time to move on. You know, we see that a lot.
- 18:50Speaker 1: But I assume he'll be back. The Yankees like him.
- 18:55Speaker 1: He is loved by Cashman. I don't think he did
- 18:59Speaker 1: anything wrong in this series Strategy Eyes, except in the
- 19:04Speaker 1: last series, I would have kept Freed in the game
- 19:07Speaker 1: when he when he pulled them. But I really can't
- 19:11Speaker 1: see what he did wrong in this.
- 19:15Speaker 2: It's more than I think we're all expecting the manager
- 19:17Speaker 2: to rally the troops. I mean, you can't let them
- 19:19Speaker 2: get down eleven. It just they looked lifeless, and that
- 19:22Speaker 2: was the real issue for me, and I think for
- 19:24Speaker 2: a lot of fans that were watching this is how
- 19:27Speaker 2: lifeless on the weekend they looked coming back to New
- 19:29Speaker 2: York after, you know, and then having to come back
- 19:31Speaker 2: to New York down too.
- 19:32Speaker 1: It was just correct. Now apparently there's no dissension in
- 19:35Speaker 1: the club efforts. They all they all like each and
- 19:38Speaker 1: that's always good. I do not think if Aaron Boone's
- 19:43Speaker 1: not the manager in twenty twenty six. I think it's
- 19:46Speaker 1: his call, not that not that the Yankees is going
- 19:49Speaker 1: to fire him.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Now. My other theory was they could pull a Mets
- 19:53Speaker 2: and fire everybody else around him. Could that happen or no?
- 19:56Speaker 2: I mean could they.
- 19:59Speaker 1: They're not going to do with Mets did where the
- 20:00Speaker 1: Mets fired basically five or six coaches. But they can
- 20:06Speaker 1: make a couple of changes. Sure.
- 20:09Speaker 2: I mean, it'll be interesting to watch how this offseason goes.
- 20:13Speaker 2: And as you say, if they go out and get
- 20:15Speaker 2: that bat, now they have the arms secured, you gotta
- 20:18Speaker 2: get that bat. And a friend of my ass well,
- 20:20Speaker 2: what do they do with Suspencer Jones? And I said, look,
- 20:23Speaker 2: they have used rumors, say they use them as trade
- 20:26Speaker 2: bait in the in the in the at the deadline.
- 20:29Speaker 2: I mean, who is saying they're not going to try
- 20:30Speaker 2: that again in the offseason.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Then I'll then I'll say this buyer, beware, when the
- 20:37Speaker 1: Yankees trade of prospect, that means he's not a prospect.
- 20:41Speaker 1: How many guys have the Yankees trade who they who
- 20:43Speaker 1: over the years that would deemed prospects have not panned
- 20:47Speaker 1: out when they got traded to other teams, so you
- 20:49Speaker 1: gotta be careful about that. So, uh so we'll we'll
- 20:53Speaker 1: see what happens in well in what should be a
- 20:56Speaker 1: very very hot offseason for both the Mets and the Yankees,
- 20:59Speaker 1: because the Mets are gonna make a lot of a
- 21:01Speaker 1: lot of trades.
- 21:02Speaker 2: But Alonso switch jerseys here, are they gonna just resign them?
- 21:06Speaker 2: And what's your thought on that?
- 21:08Speaker 1: I think it's fifty to fifty, I really do. I
- 21:11Speaker 1: think if he's resigned it's going to be because of
- 21:13Speaker 1: Steve Cohen and not not not Stearns. And uh, of
- 21:21Speaker 1: course I want him back. I mean, he was second
- 21:25Speaker 1: in the major leagues and RBIs he was like sixth
- 21:28Speaker 1: in slugging, you know. I mean, he's an asset to
- 21:32Speaker 1: the Mets and he's a homegrown Met. The fans love him.
- 21:35Speaker 1: But you know, yes, Steve Boris as his agent, and yes,
- 21:39Speaker 1: I know Borros was Boris.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Steve.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Boris a former major leaguer in the sixty Scott Borrows.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Thank you of Scott boruh you know, with Soto's agent.
- 21:50Speaker 1: So obviously the Mets have a relationship with Scott Borrows,
- 21:55Speaker 1: who thinks he runs major league baseball and maybe he does.
- 21:57Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 21:59Speaker 2: And uh uh so, so he definitely thinks he has
- 22:04Speaker 2: them by the you know what, most of mostly every
- 22:07Speaker 2: deal he makes.
- 22:07Speaker 1: So yes, he does. He thinks, I mean, he thinks
- 22:10Speaker 1: he's more powerful than uh than the commissioner, and you
- 22:13Speaker 1: know what, maybe in some instances he is. And that's
- 22:17Speaker 1: the scary thing.
- 22:17Speaker 2: I don't see. Uh, I don't see man for going
- 22:20Speaker 2: out there signing guys for seven hundred million dollars.
- 22:25Speaker 1: I mean, uh, yeah, he controls, he controls uh uh
- 22:30Speaker 1: uh baseball. He has a firm grip on a lot
- 22:33Speaker 1: of things what's going on in in major League baseball.
- 22:36Speaker 1: So so we'll we'll see what happens. It's gonna be
- 22:39Speaker 1: it's going to be a very interesting uh winter season
- 22:43Speaker 1: for the Mets and the Yankees. We'll see. I would
- 22:49Speaker 1: love to see the Mets try to get schemes. I
- 22:52Speaker 1: would love the Mets to try to get to reach screwball.
- 22:56Speaker 1: I know, uh, he only has one year left on
- 22:59Speaker 1: his deal. The if he goes to free agency, the
- 23:01Speaker 1: Tigers are not gonna sign him. So we know that
- 23:05Speaker 1: that's not good for major League Baseball. But that's a
- 23:08Speaker 1: whole nother story that we've been talking about for years
- 23:10Speaker 1: about the lop side in this of who can afford whom,
- 23:14Speaker 1: because if you, if you.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Let you, if you let these guys go out of
- 23:18Speaker 2: their markets, it sort of deflates the whole local, you know,
- 23:23Speaker 2: glory of baseball in their town. You know what I mean,
- 23:25Speaker 2: it just it.
- 23:27Speaker 1: But again, until they do something about it, you might
- 23:30Speaker 1: as well take advantage of back then the the Yankees
- 23:35Speaker 1: or the Dodgers or the Phillies doing it. So again,
- 23:38Speaker 1: do I like it? No? I don't like it. I
- 23:39Speaker 1: wish they would. I wish they would level a playing
- 23:42Speaker 1: field more.
- 23:43Speaker 2: But oh, and they're saying how a bad a cap
- 23:44Speaker 2: would be. Actually a cap would not be a bad
- 23:46Speaker 2: thing considering what we've seen the Dodgers do where they
- 23:48Speaker 2: now have to pay some guys on installment planes. I mean,
- 23:51Speaker 2: come on, this is that's not Yeah.
- 23:53Speaker 1: You're you're right, I mean they're what they are finagling, uh,
- 24:00Speaker 1: the system.
- 24:02Speaker 2: And by the way, can I just say this, everybody
- 24:07Speaker 2: around Johan Tony's facing jail time and no one thinks
- 24:11Speaker 2: that I don't understand this.
- 24:13Speaker 1: It just don't understand it either. But you know, he's
- 24:18Speaker 1: the boy, So I'm not saying that that he's done something.
- 24:22Speaker 1: It's just you're right. It seems everybody around him but
- 24:25Speaker 1: him is getting in trouble.
- 24:28Speaker 2: So it's very odd. But you know he'll go on
- 24:30Speaker 2: and having Ruthian years as always. So that's that's what
- 24:34Speaker 2: it is, all right. If the Giants could go to
- 24:36Speaker 2: and four in a seventeen game eighteen weeks slate, two
- 24:42Speaker 2: and four is still feasible. You go one in five,
- 24:45Speaker 2: that's a problem, but two and four there's still a
- 24:48Speaker 2: chance of something. Even the seventh seed at this boy.
- 24:51Speaker 1: Louis okay. They the Eagles have had a tough schedule
- 24:58Speaker 1: so far, and but they've been they been inconsistent. I mean,
- 25:03Speaker 1: Barkley well over two thousand yards this last year is
- 25:07Speaker 1: on pace for nine hundred and eight. Something looks wrong
- 25:10Speaker 1: with the Eagles, even though they're four and one. You know,
- 25:14Speaker 1: they blew a fourteen point ly in the fourth quarter
- 25:16Speaker 1: to the to the Denver Broncos on on Sunday. This
- 25:21Speaker 1: is a very tough spot for the New York Giants.
- 25:24Speaker 1: It really is. They don't have any offensive skilled players
- 25:33Speaker 1: that could I think hurt the Eagles defense. I don't
- 25:36Speaker 1: see it can they win you. Anything can happen in
- 25:39Speaker 1: the NFL. We know that anything can happen in any
- 25:42Speaker 1: one game. The one thing about Neighbors being injured, not
- 25:47Speaker 1: only because he's a great player, but developing chemistry with
- 25:52Speaker 1: Jackson Dart this year, that's not gonna happen. Slayton's not
- 25:58Speaker 1: gonna play tonight. They get Tracy back at running back.
- 26:04Speaker 1: They they didn't rush the passer at all three days
- 26:07Speaker 1: ago against New Orleans, which was just the head scratcher.
- 26:12Speaker 1: And they turned the ball on their last five over
- 26:14Speaker 1: on their last five possession.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Was the most disastrous half and actually end of the
- 26:20Speaker 2: first half I've seen in a football game. I mean,
- 26:24Speaker 2: you have a lead that all of a sudden, the
- 26:25Speaker 2: Saints kick a field goal will take the lead, and
- 26:28Speaker 2: they just cannot recover from them. Then you cough it up. Look,
- 26:32Speaker 2: Dart has to know when to slide. I know he's
- 26:33Speaker 2: a rookie, but you can't fumble that ball. You just cannot.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Now, Hey, he's the one thing I like about him.
- 26:41Speaker 1: He's aggressive, and he's confident and that and that will.
- 26:45Speaker 2: As he can run. The kid can run. I've seen
- 26:48Speaker 2: I've seen it.
- 26:49Speaker 1: He's a terrific athlete and the players around him picked
- 26:53Speaker 1: that up. Do I think the Giants have a chance tonight?
- 26:56Speaker 1: Like I said, football, anything can happen, especially in the NFL.
- 27:03Speaker 1: But I wouldn't. I wouldn't depend on I wouldn't count
- 27:06Speaker 1: on it tonight. It's a tough spot for the Giants tonight.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Let's leave it at that.
- 27:11Speaker 2: It's always a tough spot. I mean, they just yeah,
- 27:15Speaker 2: they also find ways to lose. I'll put it that way.
- 27:17Speaker 2: It's at that point where I feel like they're getting
- 27:20Speaker 2: it's they're just training ways to lose. Also, I also
- 27:23Speaker 2: feel like I'm running out of octobers, like we need
- 27:26Speaker 2: the win some stuff here. I don't.
- 27:28Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 27:29Speaker 2: It's just getting it's getting laid out here early.
- 27:32Speaker 1: It certainly is, that's for sure. And you know the
- 27:36Speaker 1: Jets are rowing five and they're going nowhere, and the
- 27:39Speaker 1: Giants might be one in five.
- 27:40Speaker 2: If let's just say, I'm getting too old for this ship, Louis, Okay.
- 27:45Speaker 1: What do you think I am? I'm ancient.
- 27:50Speaker 2: I mean that is when I was eight years old,
- 27:52Speaker 2: and I'm starting to feel older. That's not get along
- 27:55Speaker 2: here so well?
- 27:56Speaker 1: Now? Not good? My friend one thing. I want to
- 28:00Speaker 1: comment on something that to me is a head scratcher.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Mike Sullivan and the Rangers lost their opening night against
- 28:07Speaker 2: the Banquets.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Yeah, well we could talk about that. I mean, that's
- 28:10Speaker 1: only game one of a long season. Yeah, the Rangers
- 28:14Speaker 1: will be fine. I mean I think they'll be Okay.
- 28:16Speaker 1: I have no we gotta give We gotta give Mike
- 28:18Speaker 1: Sullivan more on one game. But I want to talk
- 28:22Speaker 1: about something that, like I said, as a head scratcher
- 28:25Speaker 1: to me. Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon was fined
- 28:30Speaker 1: one hundred thousand dollars by the Arizona Cardinals for basically
- 28:34Speaker 1: disciplining Amari de Mercado. If you saw the play, he
- 28:39Speaker 1: was way out in front of the Tennessee Titan defense,
- 28:44Speaker 1: got behind the Tennessee Titan defense, and when he got
- 28:47Speaker 1: to the goal line, he dropped the ball. Just dropped
- 28:51Speaker 1: the ball. He wasn't concentrating and cost it single handedly
- 28:56Speaker 1: costs the Cardinals victory. It would put him up twenty
- 28:58Speaker 1: eight to six if they the conversion in the fourth
- 29:01Speaker 1: quarter and the Tennessee Titans weren't coming back.
- 29:06Speaker 2: Titans, by the way, by the way, Titans were winless
- 29:09Speaker 2: going into this if I'm not mistaken, right.
- 29:11Speaker 1: And they got a couple of the Titans got a
- 29:13Speaker 1: couple of crazy bounces go their way. They hit a
- 29:16Speaker 1: field goal on the last play the game, and they
- 29:18Speaker 1: lose twenty two to twenty one. Gannon went after de Mercado,
- 29:26Speaker 1: got into his face, slapped him on his chest, slapped
- 29:29Speaker 1: him on his shoulder pad and everybody, a lot of
- 29:36Speaker 1: people are upping arms over it. I mean, I don't
- 29:39Speaker 1: get it. The Arizona my opinion, finding him one hundred
- 29:45Speaker 1: thousand dollars and having apologized to the team that undermines
- 29:50Speaker 1: the coach. I don't think that the Arizona Cardinal roster
- 29:55Speaker 1: now can could take their coach seriously. And it's not
- 29:59Speaker 1: Jonathan Gannon's. It's the Arizona Cardinals management of fault. Have
- 30:04Speaker 1: we gotten so soft? I mean, Alex I went to
- 30:09Speaker 1: a game in nineteen ninety two. Notre Dame was number one,
- 30:13Speaker 1: Michigan was number two. A Notre Dame lineman and happened
- 30:18Speaker 1: right in front of me. Notre Dame lineman did something wrong.
- 30:22Speaker 1: I forgot what it was. Kind to the sideline. Lou
- 30:26Speaker 1: Holtz all one hundred and sixty pounds of them, grabs
- 30:30Speaker 1: this two hundred and seventy five pound lineman by the
- 30:35Speaker 1: face mask, shaken them aggressively.
- 30:38Speaker 2: I've I've seen that highlights somewhere over the years.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Okay, so and this is the NFL, this is your job.
- 30:46Speaker 1: And he had to apologize to his team and one
- 30:49Speaker 1: hundred thousand dollars comes out of his pocket. And de Mercado,
- 30:53Speaker 1: who had a good career at TCU, was undrafted. Cardinals
- 30:59Speaker 1: gave him a chance. And I feel sorry that the
- 31:04Speaker 1: kids screwed up, But that's on the kid. I would
- 31:06Speaker 1: be ticked off myself. You know, there's only seventeen chances
- 31:10Speaker 1: to win games in the NFL. You can't give him away.
- 31:13Speaker 1: And the mccardo is the reason, the main reason why
- 31:17Speaker 1: the Arizona Cardinals gave it away a game on Sunday.
- 31:21Speaker 2: Actually it was, it was it was actually normal to
- 31:24Speaker 2: see a coach react like that. I mean it was, uh,
- 31:28Speaker 2: it was. It was disgusting. It was disgusting to drop
- 31:31Speaker 2: it on the goal, you know, the goal end like that.
- 31:33Speaker 2: But see it's the gentle parenting that all these coaches
- 31:37Speaker 2: are expected to do now. And I mean you look
- 31:40Speaker 2: at it. Who was it a few years ago? Oh
- 31:42Speaker 2: wasn't it? Joe Judge? Oh, why are you running your
- 31:44Speaker 2: guys so hard? Are you freaking serious? Why are you
- 31:47Speaker 2: running it?
- 31:48Speaker 1: Like?
- 31:49Speaker 2: And look at look at the Yankees. The reason why
- 31:51Speaker 2: they had to get Aaron Boone in there was because
- 31:54Speaker 2: Joe Girardi was appairently too tough on his teeth, like,
- 31:56Speaker 2: I don't know, it's.
- 31:57Speaker 1: Just it was. It really is head scratching. It's mind boggling, Alex.
- 32:02Speaker 1: So that's my two cents on that and the other
- 32:05Speaker 1: news of the week, which obviously didn't get a lot
- 32:08Speaker 1: of play, especially south of the border. Conor McDavid signed
- 32:13Speaker 1: a two year extent at twelve point five million dollars
- 32:18Speaker 1: a year, which is low through twenty seven to twenty eight.
- 32:22Speaker 1: Obviously a couple things here. He took the extension because
- 32:28Speaker 1: he wants to give the oil Is enough cap room
- 32:30Speaker 1: to add to the team so they can try to
- 32:34Speaker 1: finally win the Stanley Cup. But the two year extension
- 32:38Speaker 1: through twenty seven to twenty eight indicates to me that
- 32:41Speaker 1: he's going to be the first twenty million dollar player
- 32:43Speaker 1: in the league because the cap is going to go
- 32:47Speaker 1: up significantly over next two three years. So he's either
- 32:51Speaker 1: going to sign a seven year deal with the Edmonton
- 32:54Speaker 1: at the end of the twenty seven to twenty eight
- 32:56Speaker 1: season when he's thirty one years old so he'll still
- 32:59Speaker 1: be in his prime, or I don't. I don't think
- 33:02Speaker 1: this is gonna happen. He's gonna go elsewhere. But I
- 33:05Speaker 1: think the reason he signed a two year deal too
- 33:08Speaker 1: prong keep cap room so we can improve the team now.
- 33:12Speaker 1: And you know, I'll well, I'll sign you know, we'll
- 33:16Speaker 1: sign that seven year, twenty twenty one million dollar deal
- 33:19Speaker 1: in you know, when this twenty seven to twenty eight
- 33:23Speaker 1: season contract is over. So that's all I got. That's
- 33:26Speaker 1: all I got for you right now, Alex.
- 33:28Speaker 2: I know it like you should come to me to
- 33:30Speaker 2: America and it would have been turn of GRETX. Yes,
- 33:32Speaker 2: but you know what, he loves Edmonton and I think
- 33:35Speaker 2: he wants to win. And by the way, what if
- 33:38Speaker 2: we happen to say for a third time, Hey, he's
- 33:40Speaker 2: gotten to the Stanley Cup. This could be his thirty
- 33:42Speaker 2: year in a row. I'll have to see if that happens.
- 33:43Speaker 2: But you know, that extension was weighing on people's minds
- 33:47Speaker 2: even before the season ended last year. So it's it is.
- 33:52Speaker 2: It makes sense for him to resign with the Edmond Teilers.
- 33:55Speaker 2: It just wouldn't feel right if he went else elsewhere.
- 33:57Speaker 2: You know, it would not.
- 33:59Speaker 1: Dry side Leon dry stylis teammate, his great superstar teammate
- 34:03Speaker 1: is making fourteen million dollars a year. So I mean,
- 34:06Speaker 1: so I'm sure they I'm sure this negotiation with the Oilers.
- 34:10Speaker 1: I would be shocked that he doesn't if he doesn't
- 34:12Speaker 1: sign that twenty million dollar, twenty one million dollar deal
- 34:16Speaker 1: when the cap goes up in a couple of years
- 34:19Speaker 1: and his contract runs out at the end of twenty
- 34:21Speaker 1: seven to twenty eight.
- 34:22Speaker 2: So there are no early impressions about the NHL right now.
- 34:27Speaker 2: We're literally fresh start. But everybody's making a big deal
- 34:32Speaker 2: about the first lost of the year for the Rangers,
- 34:34Speaker 2: and I just say, let's calm down. But I do
- 34:37Speaker 2: want to remind people, now you go from a World
- 34:40Speaker 2: Series chase to a Cup chase, not just one. You've
- 34:44Speaker 2: got two cup chases at the Garden, the NBA Cup
- 34:48Speaker 2: that you know they have mid season, and then you
- 34:50Speaker 2: got I forget what they actually call it, and they
- 34:52Speaker 2: got the Stanley Cup and the Larry O'Brian, So now
- 34:54Speaker 2: you had two cup chase to look after at the Garden.
- 34:58Speaker 2: The Rangers, though with Mike Sullivan, should be in good hands.
- 35:00Speaker 2: I wouldn't freak out over one loss the first night
- 35:04Speaker 2: of the season. I just I would not.
- 35:05Speaker 1: Everybody is overreacting, that's for sure.
- 35:11Speaker 2: Entrepreneur, you know, entrepreneur in and Miller is not a
- 35:14Speaker 2: good way to start the year, that's true.
- 35:17Speaker 1: And I know that he's he's going to play in Buffalo,
- 35:20Speaker 1: so that's a good thing that he's not uh injured
- 35:24Speaker 1: where he's not gonna you know, he's not going to
- 35:27Speaker 1: uh play. I'm looking forward to seeing how the Island
- 35:29Speaker 1: is going to handle Matthew Matthew Schaeffer. I mean, how
- 35:34Speaker 1: they if they can limit their minutes and see how
- 35:37Speaker 1: they're going to use them. Obviously he's gonna be on
- 35:40Speaker 1: the third pairing and he's he's going to start with
- 35:43Speaker 1: Scott Mayfield, which it's good. He's a veteran and uh,
- 35:47Speaker 1: I just hope these other teams don't run the kid
- 35:49Speaker 1: and and try to rough them up. So so he
- 35:52Speaker 1: would be interesting look at and the Devil's obviously this
- 35:54Speaker 1: is the Devil's year to take the big leap as
- 35:56Speaker 1: we've talked about, and we'll get more into the hockey
- 35:58Speaker 1: to three individual teams the league in general, as you know,
- 36:01Speaker 1: as we go go forward. But obviously tonight was we
- 36:05Speaker 1: want to recap the Yankee playoff situation and uh, and
- 36:09Speaker 1: that's all I got for you, buddy.
- 36:11Speaker 2: I know there's not much to unpack until the World
- 36:14Speaker 2: Series downe then all free agency stuff and all that,
- 36:16Speaker 2: and of course the MVP debate's going to heat up
- 36:19Speaker 2: because everybody's on this coast thinking Aaron Judgers and the
- 36:23Speaker 2: Yankee dumb. I still say cal Rally's gonna get the MVP.
- 36:26Speaker 2: There's no doubt about it. You gotta give it to
- 36:28Speaker 2: cal I mean it, just he's the no brainer here
- 36:31Speaker 2: with that. And I'm rooting for him because actually I
- 36:34Speaker 2: got to talk talk to him last year the Mob Store,
- 36:36Speaker 2: and I'm ever since I met him. He just had
- 36:39Speaker 2: this record year, so I'm hoping he uh he might
- 36:41Speaker 2: bring a ring in the Seattle. That would be kind
- 36:42Speaker 2: of interesting if that happened. So if you're asking me
- 36:45Speaker 2: who I'm rooting for now, I'm definitely rooting for the Mariners,
- 36:47Speaker 2: just because it seems like it could be their time.
- 36:49Speaker 2: So we'll have to see.
- 36:51Speaker 1: It could be their time. You got you got that right, ther.
- 36:54Speaker 2: One last piece of history this year this week was
- 37:00Speaker 2: October eighth, nineteen fifty six.
- 37:03Speaker 1: Remember it well, I was only three years old, but
- 37:06Speaker 1: I know what happened that day. Unless you're gonna tell
- 37:09Speaker 1: me something else happened that day.
- 37:11Speaker 2: Nope, nope, the perfect game, and I of course, and
- 37:14Speaker 2: of course I've talked to Bob Wolf about it, because
- 37:16Speaker 2: he called the perfect game. He did Beryl leaping in
- 37:19Speaker 2: the arms of Larsen, and the rest is history. I mean,
- 37:23Speaker 2: I think that's why Yankee fans today are so sad,
- 37:26Speaker 2: because they have this rich history and yet look at
- 37:29Speaker 2: what they're doing. It just it doesn't make sense. How
- 37:33Speaker 2: then years later that, my dear.
- 37:36Speaker 1: Friend, you're sounding like a jaded Yankee fan. The Yankees
- 37:41Speaker 1: had a great season. The Yankees are always in the playoffs.
- 37:44Speaker 1: I mean, you can ask the other twenty nine major
- 37:47Speaker 1: league teams and they would all say, yeah, we'll switch
- 37:51Speaker 1: with you. I mean, no Yankee fan. Yeah, you're to
- 37:54Speaker 1: be disappointed. I get it. I understand you want to
- 37:58Speaker 1: winever the post.
- 37:59Speaker 2: He's expected to go this way, although beating Boston was
- 38:02Speaker 2: a very big bonus to me.
- 38:03Speaker 1: But Boston, and they should have beaten Boston. This was
- 38:08Speaker 1: not a big Boston team. I mean, that lineup was
- 38:11Speaker 1: full of holes. They should if they didn't be Boston,
- 38:15Speaker 1: who knows, maybe Boone would have gone fired. But yeah, yeah, no,
- 38:22Speaker 1: you should be happy they won ninety four games. They
- 38:26Speaker 1: beat all the crummy teams. I wish the Mets had
- 38:28Speaker 1: beaten some of those crummy teams that they didn't. The
- 38:30Speaker 1: Mets swept the Phillies. The Mets beat the Dodgers far
- 38:33Speaker 1: out of seven, but they lose those two home games
- 38:37Speaker 1: to the Nationals. They had won those two games, they
- 38:41Speaker 1: would have been in the playoffs, not that they were
- 38:42Speaker 1: going to do anything. So you should be a Ante fan. Yes,
- 38:47Speaker 1: you should be disappointed that they've had another playoff bump
- 38:52Speaker 1: in the road, but overall you should be You should
- 38:55Speaker 1: be happy they have the best players.
- 38:56Speaker 2: More, I'm more still bummed out that the regular season
- 38:59Speaker 2: was not what it should have been. That's kind of
- 39:01Speaker 2: where my my thing is because I could see the
- 39:05Speaker 2: postseason against the Jays coming from a mile away. Because
- 39:07Speaker 2: the Jays just they have the bats, they have the
- 39:10Speaker 2: they have the offense. I don't know if they have
- 39:12Speaker 2: the arms per se, right, but they have they have
- 39:14Speaker 2: the offense that can make up for everything. So and
- 39:17Speaker 2: you got to get.
- 39:18Speaker 1: The chase a lot of the credit. They last year
- 39:20Speaker 1: they finished fifth, they were last.
- 39:23Speaker 2: And one more thing because people, not people, but some
- 39:27Speaker 2: might have reacted. I wish in that first game with
- 39:31Speaker 2: the bases loaded for Vlad or that second game, I
- 39:34Speaker 2: guess you walcomem you know what he did the night before.
- 39:37Speaker 2: You intentionally walk them every time up after that because
- 39:41Speaker 2: that Grand Slam was evident and if they don't, it's
- 39:44Speaker 2: eight to six or eight five or whatever. And and
- 39:46Speaker 2: the Aks have a chance, but they they pitched them,
- 39:49Speaker 2: and they decided to pitch them, and I think that
- 39:50Speaker 2: was a mistake all series long.
- 39:53Speaker 1: Well, look what Schneider did last night. He walked Judge
- 39:56Speaker 1: with nobody on base.
- 39:58Speaker 2: That was that was why, I mean nobody on base.
- 40:04Speaker 1: The greatness of Aaron Judge and Aaron. And he changes
- 40:09Speaker 1: the opponent's game plan. That's the ultimate sign of greatness.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Changes how you how you plan uh to play against
- 40:22Speaker 1: the Yankees.
- 40:25Speaker 2: So I can't pin it on him that they lost. Serious,
- 40:28Speaker 2: I can't even pin it on Remember I was saying
- 40:29Speaker 2: Jazz is double play botch was No, this series was
- 40:33Speaker 2: was long.
- 40:34Speaker 1: They had two hits the after seventy and things last night.
- 40:36Speaker 2: Was long behind that before that double play botch up.
- 40:40Speaker 2: I actually think Jazz is a good player for the Yankees.
- 40:42Speaker 2: I really think he he has his energy. He yet
- 40:45Speaker 2: same to it with BOLTI when he's good, when he
- 40:49Speaker 2: is healthy, he's a good energy for this team. It's
- 40:52Speaker 2: just he's not been healthy. And again we've talked about it.
- 40:55Speaker 2: Rizzio last year with a concussion. They didn't tell us
- 40:57Speaker 2: our twenty twenty three. They didn't tell us. Then it
- 41:01Speaker 2: tells about Volpi till September. It's very odd to me,
- 41:03Speaker 2: but I knew he was bothering because were at that
- 41:05Speaker 2: game where he made the awkward dive. Would you probably
- 41:09Speaker 2: saw lou and that changed the whole season for him.
- 41:12Speaker 1: And the guy still drove him on seventy five runs.
- 41:14Speaker 1: What the nineteen twenty home runs and the kid's only
- 41:17Speaker 1: twenty three years old. But again, if the Yankees have
- 41:20Speaker 1: a chance to sign Bolbaschett and this I haven't heard
- 41:24Speaker 1: this anyway, This is just me. That's an upgrade Bulbachett's
- 41:27Speaker 1: an upgrade from Volpi.
- 41:29Speaker 2: One last thing on this whole thing. He keep Ben Rice.
- 41:34Speaker 2: I really like the kid. I don't think you should
- 41:36Speaker 2: trade him. I think you gotta keep him as your
- 41:38Speaker 2: everyday player. I like his I like the way he
- 41:41Speaker 2: hits the homers. I like the way he's just in
- 41:43Speaker 2: that lineup and can mesh well his little hiccups was that?
- 41:47Speaker 2: I think it was. He was a little nervous this postseason.
- 41:49Speaker 2: I have to say, I think it was a little
- 41:51Speaker 2: maybe a little nervous or something. I don't know, but
- 41:54Speaker 2: I mean he's.
- 41:54Speaker 1: The left hand hitting, power hitter playing the antie stadium.
- 41:58Speaker 2: I keep them people.
- 42:01Speaker 1: You can't. You can't trade everybody, and I don't see
- 42:04Speaker 1: why they would have to trade a trade rise on
- 42:07Speaker 1: that again, unless somebody throws them a deal they can't refuse.
- 42:12Speaker 1: All right.
- 42:12Speaker 2: I want to do a little news here because we've
- 42:16Speaker 2: seen the hostage crisis back in seventy two and the
- 42:19Speaker 2: way you talked about it before. I want you to
- 42:22Speaker 2: just give us this historical context since we saw a
- 42:25Speaker 2: different circument. We saw it in Munich and you you
- 42:28Speaker 2: were really impacted by that. So take us down history
- 42:30Speaker 2: that this is not the first time we've had a
- 42:32Speaker 2: hostage crisis here, and of course the deal is very interesting.
- 42:38Speaker 2: But give us some historical perspective, because this has been
- 42:40Speaker 2: a problem for many, many decades. And you told it
- 42:43Speaker 2: perfectly the last time I asked you about it.
- 42:46Speaker 1: Well, the Summer Olympics in nineteen seventy were later than
- 42:51Speaker 1: Summer Olympics. It wasn't in July like I think the
- 42:56Speaker 1: twenty eighth Summer Olympics is going to be. I think
- 42:59Speaker 1: I to mean July. This was in September. And obviously
- 43:07Speaker 1: the terrorist group Black September, I believe they were called
- 43:16Speaker 1: Rush the Israeli compound on at the Olympic Village. It's
- 43:20Speaker 1: almost hard to believe now that security was that lax.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Now of course that that was, you know, fifty five
- 43:28Speaker 1: years ago, fifty six years ago, and they were able
- 43:32Speaker 1: to get in to the Israeli complex at the Olympic Village,
- 43:39Speaker 1: held them for twenty four hours and some died. Of
- 43:45Speaker 1: the one of them died immediately, was shot immediately, if
- 43:48Speaker 1: I remember correctly. And they wanted obviously a prisoner exchange,
- 43:52Speaker 1: and they wanted a plane out of out of Munich.
- 43:56Speaker 1: And long story short. At about three o'clock in the
- 44:00Speaker 1: warning New York time, they the German authorities, rushed the plane.
- 44:12Speaker 1: There was they were shooting. The entire Israeli Olympic team was.
- 44:17Speaker 1: And it wasn't a large number of of players on
- 44:21Speaker 1: their team. They were. They were all there were as
- 44:24Speaker 1: as a great. Jim McKay, who took over that night
- 44:26Speaker 1: becoming a newsman not a sportscaster, famously said they were
- 44:31Speaker 1: all gone. And they did get the terrorists. But it
- 44:37Speaker 1: was a sad day for sports, sad day for the world.
- 44:42Speaker 1: The I think the Olympics were only postponed for one day.
- 44:47Speaker 1: There was some calls to postpone the Olympics for good,
- 44:53Speaker 1: to cantal the rest the Olympics, but Avery Brundage, the
- 44:55Speaker 1: president of the Olympic Committee, who wasn't the best guy
- 45:00Speaker 1: in the world, decided to keep the games going. Uh
- 45:04Speaker 1: he was. He had been involved with the Olympics for
- 45:08Speaker 1: many many years. He wasn't uh he was. He was
- 45:13Speaker 1: probably anti Semitic, and he continued with the games. Two
- 45:20Speaker 1: days later, Mark Spitz, the the American Jewish great swimmer,
- 45:25Speaker 1: had finished winning his his competition. They quickly got him
- 45:29Speaker 1: out of Germany and got him back to the United States.
- 45:32Speaker 1: I do remember that, but it was said, I mean
- 45:34Speaker 1: it's it, you know, politics missing mixing with sports, and
- 45:40Speaker 1: you know with this this hostage crisis hopefully ending this
- 45:44Speaker 1: week and they're going to release the remaining hostages out alive.
- 45:49Speaker 1: Just Alex again, just think, just think these poor people
- 45:52Speaker 1: they have been they have been in captivity for two
- 45:55Speaker 1: years in those tunnels. They were eating their breadth as
- 46:00Speaker 1: to when they were uh well, when they were captured
- 46:03Speaker 1: that two years ago on October seventh. It's mind boggling. It.
- 46:10Speaker 1: I just don't know how, well, how people could be
- 46:12Speaker 1: so evil. It's that's that's my two cents on it.
- 46:17Speaker 1: It's just and it seems like it seems like you
- 46:23Speaker 1: can go back fifty years, evil is around. They'll always
- 46:27Speaker 1: be evil around, but it seems more evil.
- 46:29Speaker 2: Than ever it's and and that's why sports escapes us
- 46:35Speaker 2: from that evil. I remember twenty four years ago how
- 46:40Speaker 2: much that World Series meant to New York, even if
- 46:43Speaker 2: the Anks loss it. My god, it helped us escape
- 46:46Speaker 2: from the horrors and the and sort of built us
- 46:49Speaker 2: back up a little bit from a month earlier. And
- 46:54Speaker 2: we need that momentarycoverment. We haven't had that bounce back
- 46:57Speaker 2: feeling of like unity as in October seventh. We need that,
- 47:00Speaker 2: we really, we really do correct. So that's why we
- 47:06Speaker 2: talk about sports. You get people's mind off of it
- 47:08Speaker 2: because we we could talk about what's on our television
- 47:10Speaker 2: screens all day long er, we could just delve into,
- 47:13Speaker 2: you know, the lighter side. And yeah, the angs losing
- 47:16Speaker 2: is tough as ever, but then again, uh, it is
- 47:19Speaker 2: a lighter side compared to the everything else going on
- 47:21Speaker 2: in the world. In fact, it's a minor inconvenience compared
- 47:24Speaker 2: to what everything else going on in the world.
- 47:26Speaker 1: And think about it, it's a minory convenience. You yeah,
- 47:29Speaker 1: hit the nail on the head.
- 47:31Speaker 2: But we we care about it. That's why we talked
- 47:33Speaker 2: sports on this show as well.
- 47:35Speaker 1: Absolutely, that's why we we talked sports. And I love
- 47:38Speaker 1: talking about it. And you know, as I told you many,
- 47:42Speaker 1: I knew early in my early teens that I wasn't
- 47:45Speaker 1: going to be an athlete, so I had to get
- 47:47Speaker 1: in the business somehow, So I'm glad. I have no regrets.
- 47:51Speaker 1: So that's why I love talking about it, and I
- 47:52Speaker 1: love that I was in it for all those years.
- 47:55Speaker 1: So uh, you know, like you said, it gives us
- 47:59Speaker 1: our escape from from reality and from the stress of
- 48:06Speaker 1: the world. That's for sure.
- 48:09Speaker 2: Yes it does, all right, Well, we can only hope
- 48:12Speaker 2: that tonight the Giants are going to distress us a
- 48:14Speaker 2: bit by winning, and the Rangers are on right now
- 48:17Speaker 2: as we speak, So let's go focus on that and
- 48:20Speaker 2: we'll talk to you next week. Blue on Terminillo's take.
- 48:22Speaker 2: Thank you, Alex,
