- 0:17TuneIn. Laugh with us, argue with us, or
- 0:19just wonder what the hell did I just listen to.
- 0:22New episodes come out weekly here.
- 0:24Chaos is guaranteed. Like your cat showing, yeah,
- 0:29your hat or whatever. When you do talk, you have to
- 0:32talk into the mic. Yeah, right into that right
- 0:35there. Yeah.
- 0:36Make it deeper. This.
- 0:37Is the sweet spot. Hold on, let me close my eyes.
- 0:39Make it deeper please. Oh, daddy, was it Howard Stern?
- 0:44She's. On the microphone.
- 0:45Yeah, she's sitting on the speaker.
- 0:47Yeah. Yeah, I remember that.
- 0:51Yeah. Dang, how old were we?
- 0:54Probably like 10. Yeah, watching Howard Stern,
- 0:56like Dale, like this is really interesting.
- 0:58This is at. 1st I remember. Lifes going dude, I really.
- 1:00Dude, I remember watching that and I was like, Dang, what is
- 1:02she doing? And then you get like a little
- 1:05bit older and you're like, ohh, shit.
- 1:07I'm gonna go get it. Let me try that.
- 1:08Yeah. Or stealing his moves.
- 1:11Yeah, or like watching. Why are we not capturing?
- 1:13This are we. It is.
- 1:15It is. OK, yeah, why'd you have to ruin
- 1:16it like that? That could have been a good
- 1:18clip. Supernatural Moment.
- 1:19It still is natural. I do.
- 1:21I don't do dumb shit. OK, pretend like you didn't say
- 1:24that and keep going. Yeah, OK.
- 1:28So no, Ace Ventura, when he goes and finds that girl's dog and
- 1:35then she goes down on him. Yeah.
- 1:37And he's like doing. Yeah.
- 1:38And that as a as a kid, I'm like, like, what?
- 1:42I don't get it. But then you watch it when
- 1:44you're older and you're like, oh shit.
- 1:45There was a movie I just watched and it was one of those moments
- 1:49where I I watched it as a kid and was like, good.
- 1:51And I watched it as an adult and I was like, wow, yeah, that was
- 1:54way better as an adult. Yeah.
- 1:57I, I can't remember what it was. It was, it was pretty recent.
- 1:59My wife and I both watched it. We were like, how do we miss all
- 2:03that? Was Zach and me remaking porno?
- 2:05No, that one was terrible. That was such a that movie, man.
- 2:08Do you? Do you, do you watch a lot of
- 2:09movies? Yeah, yeah.
- 2:11I would say I have a problem with, like, memorizing lines
- 2:14from movies. Yeah.
- 2:15So I drop 1 liners on people all the time.
- 2:17Really. Yeah.
- 2:18It's a great way to like, I wish I could de ice.
- 2:20Yeah. I wish I could remember that,
- 2:22huh? You don't remember nothing.
- 2:23What? Did you just say?
- 2:25Yeah, see. No, it's hard.
- 2:27We'll bring movies up or songs and he's like.
- 2:30No. Well, movies I could kind of do.
- 2:32It's the songs, man. I, I I don't know song names.
- 2:36I don't know lyrics or singers, but I recognize them.
- 2:40I feel like if I went on the what was that name, that tune,
- 2:45if you could let me either just sing the lyrics, name the person
- 2:48or the song, I would smash it. But like, if you're asking for,
- 2:50like, all three, it's sometimes tough, but lyrics are.
- 2:55I could sing a lot of songs, but that's like, I've been driving
- 2:57around in a car. Yeah.
- 2:58Yeah. 10 hours for two decades. I mean, you're going to learn
- 3:01some music. Like, I remember this song.
- 3:03Yeah. You know, there's nothing else
- 3:05to do in the middle of the night.
- 3:06It's 2:00 in the morning, and you're not working with anybody.
- 3:10You're by yourself. Yeah.
- 3:12And you're just like, you find out if you're a good or bad
- 3:15singer pretty quick. Like it sounds great.
- 3:18But are you honest with yourself, whether you're a good
- 3:20or bad? Singer.
- 3:21I'm a terrible singer. Yeah.
- 3:22Yeah, All right. Well, Tucson in the karaoke bar.
- 3:26Oh, really? And.
- 3:27Do me a favor, not gonna work. Will you make that fan not come
- 3:30this way? Yeah.
- 3:32Oh is it hitting that take it off oscillation?
- 3:35Yeah, what episode is this gonna be?
- 3:37I don't even know. 5 or 6. You can't have 5 or 6.
- 3:41No, we have 5. Well, are the girls gonna go
- 3:45first? I don't know well if you didn't.
- 3:46Release a couple, then you're on.
- 3:49This would be 6. Yeah, you're on 6, OK.
- 3:52Oh, so you've been watching? Yeah.
- 3:53Yeah. Nice.
- 3:54Awesome. Thank you for that.
- 3:57Just share it though. It's in the middle of the night
- 3:59at 2:00. I got nothing.
- 4:00So I'm like, screw it, you know, throw it on.
- 4:02I'll tell you my secrets. Yeah, that's awesome.
- 4:05Can either listen to some country music or I'll just throw
- 4:07it on a podcast. Right.
- 4:08Right. I don't care who's podcast it
- 4:10is. They all make me laugh.
- 4:12Yeah, at some point in time. I mean, everyone all turn 1 off,
- 4:16whatever, but sometimes they get going and I'm like whoever it
- 4:18is. Like this shit's hilarious,
- 4:19Yeah. All right, so we are here
- 4:21Episode 6. Yes.
- 4:23Episode 6 with Joey. Hello.
- 4:25Joey is a police officer. Yep.
- 4:28Here in Arizona, Yes. How long you been a police
- 4:31officer? For 18 years. 18 years?
- 4:34Yep. So you started, you started
- 4:36right after high school, right? Yeah, so I got out of high
- 4:39school, did some things for a couple of years and then went
- 4:42right into the PD two years after.
- 4:45Yeah. So I think legitimately like 2
- 4:49years in a month or two months right after high school jumped
- 4:52into the to the police Academy. Did you know that you wanted to
- 4:55be a be a a police officer or? Yes, yeah, I knew.
- 4:58I knew pretty young, probably like 10-12 years old.
- 5:02And I was like, I think that's what I want to do.
- 5:05And then it just grew. And then in high school that I,
- 5:07I knew that's what I wanted to do eventually, maybe not like
- 5:10that soon. Yeah.
- 5:12But I had really nothing else. Well, I had some things going,
- 5:14but I really didn't have anything going at that time.
- 5:15I was like, might as well do it now in I was really big in the
- 5:19future. So I got into it for retirement
- 5:22too. You know some of the.
- 5:22Retirement things and I knew that I wanted a a career that I
- 5:26could look back on one, be proud of, but two, it also had some
- 5:29sort of some golden carrot at the end where I get a pension
- 5:34and retirement. I'm I'm, I'm taking care of
- 5:36after the fact. You don't see that with a lot of
- 5:40professions. You know, you could be a, a, a
- 5:42banker or you could be, you know, a a Walmart regional
- 5:46manager. Some of these big, big
- 5:48corporations, they take care of you there, I feel.
- 5:51Yeah, really good benefit packages and things like that.
- 5:53But I'm talking after. You're after and.
- 5:55You're kind of standing there at the crossroads, like in Tom
- 5:58Hanks and Castaway, and he was like, where do I go now, you
- 6:00know? So, well, and I, I guess, you
- 6:02know, Tyler's getting ready to go through that process and I, I
- 6:04don't even think that I thought that deep to it because how hard
- 6:08you and I might have to work to save for that retirement and,
- 6:12and you guys have the platform that that's going to assist you
- 6:15guys in doing that. Yeah, and he's getting into it
- 6:17young, as I understand too. I mean, I was really young.
- 6:19He's he's young too. And if I give one piece of
- 6:22advice to that person, it's go into retirement now, like right
- 6:27away. If you're young, I don't want to
- 6:29say you're struggling, but you know, you're young.
- 6:31You want that paycheck, you see the money and it's, it's good.
- 6:34But if you have the option, just go 10% right in your retirement
- 6:39right away. I was told like, skip your first
- 6:42raise and just put that in your retirement.
- 6:44You'll never even know. You'll know.
- 6:45But yeah, the quicker you can get to that 15% mark and then go
- 6:50forward from there is is the best you can.
- 6:54Obviously you still have to maintain some sort of little
- 6:57wage and, you know, house payment and obviously houses are
- 7:00a lot more expensive now than when I started.
- 7:02Cars are more expensive, everything's more expensive.
- 7:04But he also is going to make a lot more money than when I
- 7:07started. So it's kind of relative
- 7:10percentage wise. So yeah, just invest as quick as
- 7:13you can that way, you know, you have that nest egg at the end.
- 7:15And so that wasn't the only reason.
- 7:18Obviously the the deeper reasons, but that was a, a
- 7:20consideration of what I was going to do in life, whether
- 7:24that be military or, you know, government or anything else.
- 7:28Like I've always wanted to be a pilot.
- 7:30Oh well, OK. It's never too late.
- 7:31I'll probably still be a pilot at some point in my life, but,
- 7:35you know, not next. Week that's that's pretty cool
- 7:36that you thought about that that at that age because we're I know
- 7:39we are the same age we are and I didn't think about that shit at
- 7:43all like the whole retirement stuff I.
- 7:45Know you weren't you weren't thinking about.
- 7:47That no, I was not. I've actually known Shane a long
- 7:50time. Yeah, I knew Shane in high
- 7:52school. Shane's always been a good dude
- 7:53though, man. Thank you.
- 7:54Always had that good, strong moral compass.
- 7:57And him and I are very alike, you know, always joking and
- 7:59having a time. But we're also able to just kind
- 8:01of buckle down and and do our thing.
- 8:02I remember. Oh boy, here.
- 8:04And you never know where this story is going to go.
- 8:07I remember I. Remember the what?
- 8:09Like one of the like, one of the core memories in in like high
- 8:13school is with Joey, 'cause I remember he started this thing
- 8:17where like, hey, we're going to, we're going to start a fight and
- 8:19everybody just come around us and we're going to do thumb
- 8:23wars. So like him and somebody else
- 8:26were like doing like thumb wars and we're all like, fine.
- 8:29And we're like running over there and it's just them and
- 8:31people are trying to get in there to see the fight, you
- 8:33know? Yeah.
- 8:33Yeah, we probably almost started a couple fights.
- 8:38Oh, I'm sure, I'm sure. All the teachers were in.
- 8:41And then, I mean, the teachers would catch on, you idiots.
- 8:43Yeah, yeah. What do you expect?
- 8:44A bunch of 15 year old bored. Dudes doing, I know.
- 8:48Yeah, you give us an hour. Yeah, eat our pizza and our egg
- 8:51roll, and then we're like, what do we do now?
- 8:53Yeah. Did you did you guys have an
- 8:55open campus or was it closed campus?
- 8:57Open, Open, Yeah, Yeah, I think it was like shortly after they
- 9:00closed it it, yeah. So.
- 9:02A couple years. Yeah, I want to say our
- 9:04sophomore year it was still open.
- 9:06And then I think our junior year they closed it to just juniors
- 9:09and seniors. And then we had a huge class
- 9:11too. So, you know, I, I, my
- 9:14daughter's going into high school this year and I think
- 9:16her, her class is like 400. I think we had like 9.
- 9:20Yeah, we had. Close to 1000.
- 9:21Close to 1000. Yeah, it was a lot.
- 9:23Our graduation ceremony took like 3 hours just reading.
- 9:26Names. Yeah, it was.
- 9:27Yeah. And then like the Mexican names
- 9:29were all long. Well, there was a lot.
- 9:31There was a lot of them at that stage, yeah.
- 9:33There was, yeah. They're like, yeah.
- 9:35You know, there was, there was a, there's a lot of everything.
- 9:37There. Adam Jones, Yeah.
- 9:39You know, and then they get to the Hispanic name.
- 9:41Yeah. You know, they're like Mauricio
- 9:44Gonzalez, Ortega Hernandez, the third, yeah.
- 9:52And then four of them stand up well.
- 9:54Then the crowd would go crazy because he always got this huge
- 9:57family. You know, 60 or 70, Yeah.
- 9:59Right. That's why they cut it down to
- 10:00you get 4 tickets. Yeah, that's it.
- 10:02Yeah. I always tell people, too, like,
- 10:05I was lucky enough to grow up in an area where it was really
- 10:07diverse. Yeah.
- 10:08And I think he translated into just people are people, man.
- 10:13Yeah. He doesn't even matter to me.
- 10:15Yeah, he really doesn't. Yeah.
- 10:17But I grew up in AI, grew up in a space that that wasn't a
- 10:20thing. It was never.
- 10:21First off, Arizona is a very big melting pot.
- 10:23Oh, for sure. It's not like back east.
- 10:25I've been back east a lot of places and you, you do got to
- 10:27get a little sideways back there.
- 10:29Yeah, there's a. Definite cultural divide.
- 10:31Yeah, when you go. Back and then yeah and so I and
- 10:34I grew up with that so that was I was lucky enough to have that
- 10:36around so. Yeah.
- 10:38Does that help you relate to people while you are on the job
- 10:41100. Percent Well, that and I
- 10:42obviously I grew up in the city that I work for too.
- 10:44So like I, I didn't get pulled from, you know, I wasn't in
- 10:48Malibu, CA in the city in Arizona.
- 10:52Yeah, I grew up in that community.
- 10:54So like, I'm part of that. That's got to feel good though
- 10:56'cause you're giving back to the community that you grew up in.
- 10:59Yeah, yeah. Fortunately, I haven't run into
- 11:02a lot of people, which means I obviously chose my friends
- 11:04wisely. Sure.
- 11:05But yeah, I mean, I think it just helps understand that that
- 11:09that dynamic of that culture, like understanding the 'cause
- 11:12you do, you have to understand the people you're working with
- 11:15and what their social makeup is, you know what, what kind of
- 11:20money they're making, you know, economical situations, things
- 11:23like that. All that comes in a into a, into
- 11:25a factor. You know, I'd imagine working in
- 11:27Hollywood that's it's pretty tough when you're, you know,
- 11:30dealing with these high profile. People you know you.
- 11:33Stop Tom Brady on his way to the Super Bowl.
- 11:36Yeah, Yeah, they're playing Sony in Cali.
- 11:38I think the expectation is you make sure he doesn't make it
- 11:40there, right, Try to win the game.
- 11:43But yeah, there's, you know, there's some high, high profile
- 11:46areas and I'm glad I don't work in any of those.
- 11:48Yeah, you're under scrutiny as it is.
- 11:50Is there any like that in Arizona?
- 11:52Well, just imagine Scottsdale. Yeah, Scottsdale probably runs
- 11:55into it a little bit. Yeah.
- 11:58What's the one up there? N like Paradise Valley?
- 12:01Paradise Valley, Yeah, you've got some big, big high end
- 12:03things. And then I mean, obviously
- 12:05there's big things going on in the valley throughout, you know,
- 12:08you've got the the West side as State Farm Stadium and things
- 12:12like that. They're all some pretty big
- 12:13things. There's a lot of people that
- 12:14come into those. So Ufcs here, sometimes UFC
- 12:17draws a lot of different type. Do you get the opportunity to
- 12:20work those events at all? Not UFC.
- 12:24So I've I've worked some, let's see, I've worked the the NCAA
- 12:31March Madness was here Final Four, we worked that worked the
- 12:35both bowl games that are here, the Fiesta Bowl and then inside
- 12:39Bowl I. Think was here at inside.com.
- 12:41We've done Super Bowl a couple times and then we do dignitary
- 12:44protection. So I've done, I think President
- 12:48Trump, I think I've done his security 2/2 times.
- 12:51And then MM Pence, that was a trip to talk about that.
- 12:54But the I was like literally like his guy for the day.
- 12:59I wasn't told that when I woke up.
- 13:02Did he have flies all over his head?
- 13:04No. I was like, what the heck?
- 13:06Like, that's crazy. It's one of those things when
- 13:08you're just doing your job, right?
- 13:09Yeah. And then you go home and your
- 13:11wife's like, hey, how was your day?
- 13:13You're like, sit down. Yeah, let me tell you.
- 13:17I just protected the Vice president of the United States
- 13:19of America. That's like what?
- 13:21Yeah, how how do you, how do you, how do they pick you like
- 13:23they. Didn't I mean they it?
- 13:25It's just part of the details just where I ended up any it
- 13:28could have been any of us, but you know, 888 of us were on that
- 13:32team or ten of us were on that team and then he came into town.
- 13:36We picked them up and then as you know, we go into this room.
- 13:39Let me back up. We'll just start.
- 13:40This is the story, right? For sure.
- 13:42But real quick back to what we do like the dignity
- 13:45interpretation. So when Kamala Harris was in
- 13:47town, Biden was in town. We've done that.
- 13:48So I've been part of those details and some of those big
- 13:50events. But as far as working, you know,
- 13:53every day, you know, or, or but there's not like a thing, I can
- 13:56sign up and be like, hey, I'm going to go to the UFC and and
- 13:59do this detail. Some of them are permanent spots
- 14:02and then, you know, the city takes the inside.
- 14:04But so, yeah, back to the Mike Pence thing.
- 14:06Just one of those things in life.
- 14:08So the we gear up and we're like, hey, we're going to go do
- 14:12this thing, tear protection thing.
- 14:13Not a big deal. Just another day at the office.
- 14:15So we load up, we go down. And you don't know who it is.
- 14:18I knew who it was. Yeah, we knew we were knew we
- 14:20were doing the the detail there. So, but it's just another, you
- 14:26don't know what your detail is, I guess.
- 14:28So sometimes you're blocking roads.
- 14:29So you're like in this caravan and all you're doing is blocking
- 14:31side roads, giving them? A.
- 14:34A. A clear path.
- 14:34Listen, you don't want the president or vice president of
- 14:37the United States to stop anywhere on this route.
- 14:41It's got to be a fluid route, right?
- 14:42So I know it shuts down I-10 and everybody's upset about it,
- 14:45what's going on, Or like, I know when I think Biden was here,
- 14:49they shut down the three O 3 and everybody's up in arms about it.
- 14:51I'm like, listen, the president of the United States cannot stop
- 14:54on route. Like, do you know how dangerous
- 14:56that is? That's a big deal.
- 14:58Yeah, he's, yeah, he's kind of a big deal.
- 15:00So so we, we, we go to Sky Arbor.
- 15:03It's like this private part of the airport that I've obviously
- 15:05never been to. And he flies in.
- 15:07And then prior to that, we, we have a meeting.
- 15:10And so we walk in and I'm looking around and I'm like,
- 15:13where is everybody? You know, where's like the
- 15:15Secret Service And he's got guys with him.
- 15:18You know, there's a there's A tag team there, but there's just
- 15:19one guy. Is there like team leader?
- 15:21And he's like, hey, yeah, this is what we're going to do.
- 15:23Here's our route. Shows us everything.
- 15:24We're like, OK, it's like it's being secured this and that.
- 15:26And I'm like, OK, you know, and time's going on.
- 15:31And then he's like, all right, let's load up.
- 15:32So we're like, OK, so we load up and then I'm like, is his guys
- 15:37coming with us? You are.
- 15:40They're like, no, you're you are the guy.
- 15:42I'm like, wait a minute, what do you mean we're the guys really.
- 15:45And they're like, yeah, so unbeknownst to me, it's just a,
- 15:49it's, it's like local tactical guys that take those routes.
- 15:52And then he's like, well, we don't know the area.
- 15:55You guys are the professionals in the area.
- 15:57And I was like, what? Yeah, that makes sense.
- 15:59Like we're going into my city, right, 'cause he's doing a, he's
- 16:01doing his rally in my city. Nobody knows our city like we
- 16:04do. And we've already got a
- 16:06stronghold there. And so we're like, alright, so
- 16:08we pick him up Now there's, now he has his own like internal
- 16:13security guys, right? So there's there's a grip of
- 16:16them, but as far as like, the next thing I know we're we're
- 16:19like, oh, there he is. OK, He's coming off Air Force
- 16:21One and comes down and gets in his car and there we go.
- 16:23And then we're in the caravan and they're like, yeah, just do
- 16:26this. And I'm like, OK, so we're like
- 16:27on the freeway, like doing these maneuvers and stuff.
- 16:29And I've never done that before, you know?
- 16:31And so there was no prior meeting or training or.
- 16:36So we we have dignitary protection training that we do.
- 16:38So it's not something like but I was just wondering.
- 16:40Specifically for this, it was just like, hey, this is where
- 16:43you're going. Yeah, there's no OPS plan.
- 16:44There is no like. Textbook for it, yeah.
- 16:46OK, so you showed. Him in and didn't know you were
- 16:48doing this. Not that in depth, no, because
- 16:51we're doing dignitary protection for other people, you know,
- 16:54governors, mayors and things like that.
- 16:56And it's it's, it's typically pretty low key.
- 16:59Like I said, you're kind of securing routes or you're,
- 17:01you're securing locations or like they come on location and
- 17:05you're just kind of there as a security force or an emergency
- 17:08task force if something does happen, not like the doing the
- 17:12transport. So it's kind of a trip.
- 17:15So there we are driving down the freeway in this caravan.
- 17:18I'm like, oh, we're part of this, this is kind of cool.
- 17:20And then we get where we're going.
- 17:22So, so we can do his rally and we show up and it just the way
- 17:25it worked out. I'm like standing basically next
- 17:28to stage and I'm like, OK, if something happens, I have to do
- 17:32something. Yeah, yeah, you're the.
- 17:34Shield, this is crazy. Yeah, this is crazy.
- 17:36Sock. Thank.
- 17:36Thank goodness nothing happened. I didn't.
- 17:39I just didn't want to be on YouTube.
- 17:40Yeah, right. Look at this guy.
- 17:44Well, you look the part, so you. Just get up there and you just
- 17:47like start pointing and stuff. Yeah, people always think you
- 17:49know what you're doing so. Well, that's what I do at work.
- 17:51If I walk really fast, yeah, nobody bothers me.
- 17:54Yeah, the other, the other key is if you just take a clipboard,
- 17:57you walk around with a clipboard and a pen, everything's really
- 17:59busy. Oh yeah, you get away a lot of
- 18:00stuff. So that was, that was pretty
- 18:02trippy, though. I was like, here we are, you
- 18:03know, and then he gets in, we we caravan him out of there, we
- 18:06drive him to, to Luke and off he goes.
- 18:09I mean, it was damn couple hours we were.
- 18:12So let me ask you this then. What is your take on the
- 18:19assassination attempt on President Trump then?
- 18:22It's a good question. Now I'm not the end all be all.
- 18:25I know, but you have more experience.
- 18:26Than I am but my opinion is communication breakdown.
- 18:30That's that's that's where you and that's where you're going to
- 18:33see most of things go wrong is communication.
- 18:37Either I saw something or you saw something and it didn't get
- 18:40relayed either fast enough or somebody's scared to say
- 18:43something like I don't want to be that guy.
- 18:45So they they don't say something and then it happens.
- 18:47You know, like man, you know what's going to happen or
- 18:50something like. That I wonder how much of that
- 18:51actually goes on now. Like everybody's afraid to say a
- 18:53lot. Yeah, they don't want to be the
- 18:55the person, they don't want to be in trouble.
- 18:56And then and then they don't want to be, you know, this is a
- 18:58this is an interesting industry to be in, you know, military,
- 19:02PD, fire, there's that that fellowship and everybody makes
- 19:05fun of each other. It's just like the way the
- 19:06outlet. Some people don't like that
- 19:08though. So me, I've been ball busting
- 19:11for years. Yeah, like in high school,
- 19:13right? It's a thing for me.
- 19:14Matter of fact, if you don't bust my balls, I'm like, this
- 19:16guy doesn't like me. Exactly, you know?
- 19:19And I dish it out really thick, you know?
- 19:22Yeah, like but can take it. Yes, I, I, I invite it in.
- 19:25Yeah, because it just fuels me to go even more.
- 19:27And eventually they're just like, I'm like the last word
- 19:29gay. It's like you get going and, and
- 19:32like you're walking away and you're like at some point, at
- 19:34some point we got to. Break this up together.
- 19:36Yeah, well, Joey, Joey was one of the people that I didn't talk
- 19:39shit to because I knew you. Were not just coming yeah he's
- 19:43coming yeah and I still hold true to that but it's all in
- 19:46good fun yeah and if I'm not busting your balls there's a
- 19:48good chance I don't like you for sure so yeah so I you know so do
- 19:53you think back on it like you got I'm looking at the whole
- 19:55picture like the guy in in I'm going to try to go off what I
- 19:58remember. Like the guy shows up, he's seen
- 20:03with like, binoculars and backpack.
- 20:05Yeah. And then?
- 20:07Like he's scoping out the play. Yeah, so he's like taking.
- 20:09Like a range Finder or some shit and.
- 20:11Things like that. And from what I understand, like
- 20:15somebody may have seen him on the roof and it like I said, it
- 20:19just didn't get communicated fast enough.
- 20:22And then also you have to you have to understand like kind of
- 20:24what I was just saying. So it's, it's multi agency,
- 20:26right? So I'm assuming and, and this is
- 20:30just law enforcement in general. So you've got like a, a talk
- 20:33center, like tactical operation center.
- 20:35So you got like tactics. So they're usually on their own
- 20:37team, they're on their own channel, right?
- 20:39Because you're dealing with this is law, law enforcement, law
- 20:42enforcement in general. So typically you're going to
- 20:43have like the tactical channel, right?
- 20:45That's where all your tac guys are in, in case things happen.
- 20:47And the reason that happens is because logistically, if, if
- 20:51there's a, a, something happening where the, the attack
- 20:55guys are involved, like we just don't need all the other stuff
- 20:59in our ear, like he's just like, I don't need to hear that
- 21:02there's a suspicious person or there's a traffic stop or we're
- 21:05going to investigate this or whatever the case may be.
- 21:08So tactic, tactic's usually on one command is usually on their
- 21:11own. And, and the reason that happens
- 21:13command is they, they have, they have oversight of the whole
- 21:15thing. So they're looking at the
- 21:18traffic guys who are blocking traffic now they're dealing,
- 21:22they they got to listen to attack channel.
- 21:24They got to listen to sometimes like the motors have their own
- 21:26channel because they're they're doing traffic stops and whatever
- 21:28in the area. They have like internal security
- 21:31channel, they have an exterior channel, everything.
- 21:34So imagine if one of the external security guys, police
- 21:41see something, he puts it out, it's going to get vetted, right?
- 21:44So it's going to go back to command.
- 21:46Command's going to listen to it. If they deem it necessary,
- 21:48they'll they're going to have to put out the tack.
- 21:50So now it's getting communicated around and around and around.
- 21:52How long could that take? It could take a little while,
- 21:54right? So what I think happened was
- 21:57it's my printing, you know, I don't know this is gospel or
- 21:58anything, but I think what happened was this guy got into
- 22:00position and they were like, I don't want to say downplaying
- 22:03it, but they were just like, it's kind of a normal, this is
- 22:05weird. What's this guy doing on the
- 22:06roof, you know? So let's go investigate that.
- 22:08By the time that they knew what was happening and putting it out
- 22:12like that just didn't get communicated back fast enough.
- 22:16And all those people, I'll say this too, like all the where
- 22:19they were like on that, I don't know, on the barn.
- 22:21What do you want to call that? Structure.
- 22:23Yeah. Like an exterior shed, That
- 22:24structure. I'm going to bet that that
- 22:27that's like their command center.
- 22:29And let's be honest, they got complacent.
- 22:31Like this is our command center. There's there's 50 cops in here.
- 22:34Nobody's going to mess with this.
- 22:35And so their exterior guy, I think is the one that saw it,
- 22:41went to go address it. I don't know that he put it out
- 22:43immediately. If he didn't, then that's
- 22:46probably what what what happened, you know, and he he
- 22:49went up there to communicate it. And by that time it's over.
- 22:51I mean, it's too fast. I mean, these things happen
- 22:53really, really fast. Could they have thwarted that a
- 22:56little earlier? Probably, you know, maybe I
- 22:59don't know. And then, well, there's also
- 23:01stuff about like they couldn't chew because the roof was
- 23:04slanted or they couldn't get somebody over.
- 23:06Here pitched. Pitched or something?
- 23:09Yeah. Is that so?
- 23:11I've never been a counter marksman or sniper.
- 23:13I've never been in that, in that I've never held that position.
- 23:15So I wouldn't even I wouldn't be able to comment on that as far
- 23:19as if that was doable, not doable.
- 23:21I'm going to assume those guys are are professionals like any
- 23:23other, anybody else. And I'm going to take them at
- 23:25their word. They're like, I didn't have that
- 23:27shot. I'm going to trust that they
- 23:28probably didn't have. It I would say like, you know,
- 23:30from the outside looking in, it's really easy to, you know,
- 23:33pick apart everything that you just see from the media, right?
- 23:37You don't like, I've never been to that place, you know, so it's
- 23:41real easy to be like, Oh well, you know, these guys were on a
- 23:44pitched roof. How can they, you can put guys
- 23:46on this pitched roof like you don't really know what the whole
- 23:49logistics and the setting of that whole event was like, so.
- 23:56Right. And things in law enforcement
- 23:58typically are, are super fast. They're rapidly evolving.
- 24:01Yeah, they're violent or they can get violent really, really
- 24:03quick. And you're asking guys to make
- 24:05these decisions, you know, split second decisions.
- 24:09And the only thing that they have is either their experience
- 24:11or training. Those are the two things that
- 24:13are going to make you make your decision.
- 24:14Like if you think all of a sudden these guys in law
- 24:17enforcement are going to like, have this epic epiphany what to
- 24:21do in this circumstance, that's not how it happens.
- 24:24Like it's just bang, what do I, what do I do?
- 24:26What have I have I seen something, anything like this
- 24:28before in my life? And what did I do to help solve
- 24:30that problem? And did it work or didn't work?
- 24:32And, and you're basing on that. So when you're asking these
- 24:35people who've never been put in a situation to all of a sudden
- 24:37rise to this occasion and, and come up with this elaborate
- 24:40plan, it's just not going to happen.
- 24:42So, and it's, it's, it's, it's, I put it on both, right.
- 24:45So I think agencies got to get their guys trained, but I think
- 24:48guys got to take training serious too.
- 24:50And it's got to be both ways. Can't.
- 24:54The agency could put on a really, really good training,
- 24:56but if the officer's there and he's not interested, where he's
- 24:59not paying attention, then he didn't get it.
- 25:02It's like anything else you're going to get out of it.
- 25:03What you put it to it. Yes, 100%.
- 25:05Yeah, yeah, yeah. You, you go to a Brazilian
- 25:07jujitsu gym or boxing gym and you're going 50% and you've
- 25:11never spotted 100%. But I hate to tell you this, but
- 25:14when he goes 100% for the first time, you're getting you're not
- 25:17yeah, you can get your your block knocked off and you're
- 25:19going to be like, what the hell do I do now?
- 25:20You know, this never happened. Your brain literally doesn't
- 25:23have an answer for it. You got to like make it up on
- 25:25the fly and then try making it up on the fly when rounds are
- 25:29flying right from being able to fly when somebody's trying to
- 25:32kill you, try to make a decision like that is just not something
- 25:35people deal with in the world. And unfortunately, you guys are
- 25:39put under a microscope when something like that happens.
- 25:41I mean, 100% it, it's, it's sad to say, you know, like it's
- 25:45there's situation where it's kill or be killed and then you
- 25:48guys instantly are the are the bad person.
- 25:50Yeah. Everybody knows how to do our
- 25:51job. Yeah, right.
- 25:53Well, it's like watching, you know you like, watch football,
- 25:56right? Like, you know, you, you watch
- 25:59the NFL. Oh, yeah, you're a Chargers fan.
- 26:01Yeah, we know that it's annoying, but yeah, you like,
- 26:08you like watch games and, you know, you hear people that's
- 26:10probably never played football be like, oh, well, why didn't he
- 26:12just run that way? It's like wide open.
- 26:14It's like, well, you're not in it.
- 26:15Like it's completely different. And it's, I feel like it's the
- 26:18same with like law enforcement, you know, all these cell phones
- 26:21are around, like why didn't you shoot him in the leg or use his
- 26:24Taser? It's like you're not in that
- 26:26position. It's.
- 26:26Easy to judge from the couch. Yeah, You know what?
- 26:28I. Mean and I don't think so and
- 26:31and to to go full circle on that I don't I don't think the
- 26:34general public so law enforcement in general has done
- 26:37a really poor job of educating the public like we have a huge
- 26:39platform to do it now, but the general public I don't think
- 26:46understands use of force. I don't think they understand
- 26:49human ability like sometimes you y'all see a use of force and
- 26:53people like why didn't you do this dude?
- 26:54I'm like that's so far out the actual ability of a human being
- 26:58that you're asking this person to to whatever they're in.
- 27:01You know, you're asking to do something so much so far outside
- 27:04of what can actually be done. And then I don't think they
- 27:07understand the way that use of force is broken down and how
- 27:10it's looked upon. And one of the things I think
- 27:14that has fallen and it, it's kind of double right.
- 27:17Like the like the, the use of body cameras and stuff.
- 27:19Like I think body cameras are great.
- 27:21I, I haven't changed the way I do law enforcement at all.
- 27:24Not one bit, right? I haven't changed my
- 27:26personality. I haven't changed the way I talk
- 27:28to people. I've got, I mean, do I get in
- 27:29trouble sometimes? Sure.
- 27:31I've been talked to. I haven't done anything illegal
- 27:33or not unethical or immoral or anything like that.
- 27:34But like, if I'm on the street and some dudes like, dude, fuck
- 27:38you. I'm like, yeah, fuck you too,
- 27:40bitch, right. Because then guess what?
- 27:42And I was like, oh, OK, but guess what, 10 minutes later, me
- 27:45and that dude are cool, right? We are.
- 27:47It's just the way it is. And and guys forget that or
- 27:50they, they don't understand that dynamic like you do.
- 27:53This is an alpha job, you know, especially in some, some of the
- 27:57some of the spots you got to be like, what's the first step in
- 28:01use of force? It's officer presence.
- 28:03And that's gotten me out of way more fights than anything else.
- 28:07Way more fights I've won with officer presence than I have
- 28:10with fists, like 100 times more, right.
- 28:13And so when you get into this use of force spectrum, people
- 28:17don't understand how it's broken down, what the reactions are,
- 28:21how you're judged. And you know, it's, it's based
- 28:25on the training, the experience of the officer to how long that
- 28:30officers, what, how long has that officer been around 'cause
- 28:33if you've been, if you've been on the job for 10 years and
- 28:36you're making a decision like a two year officer, it's a
- 28:38problem, right? So when, when they go to break
- 28:42it down, the other thing that you don't understand is like
- 28:44hindsight 2020, right? So you have the luxury sitting
- 28:47and watching this happen and pausing it and rewinding it.
- 28:52That that's, that's in hindsight, man.
- 28:55And if you go back and you ask an officer, I would say 9 out of
- 28:5910, if not ten out of 10 times you asked an officer to be
- 29:02honest, they're like, yeah, I would probably do this now that
- 29:06now, But when are they going to do that?
- 29:08The next time they learn from it, Yeah.
- 29:11So yeah, if you've got the officer and he's doing the same
- 29:13thing over and over again, that's a problem.
- 29:15How often do you guys train? Well, that's.
- 29:18Kind of a loaded question because everybody gets a little
- 29:19different. Like I'm I get to train probably
- 29:22the most. OK, so let's talk about basic
- 29:25officer out there in the police, not enough, not enough probably.
- 29:29Again, is that on the department or is that on the officer say?
- 29:32Again, it's probably both. It's probably both you.
- 29:35So you should be going out and finding your own trainings and
- 29:40then going to those trainings, whatever however they apply to
- 29:42what your position is, so. Internally.
- 29:45Yes, and then the department should be putting out training.
- 29:48The department does a good job. They put out a lot of training.
- 29:50They do again, what's the buy in of that officer?
- 29:55Because you go to a Taser training every year, right?
- 29:57You got to be certifying your Taser.
- 29:59It's kind of once you've been there, you've kind of done it.
- 30:02It's kind of just like mundane, I guess, but you do have to take
- 30:05it, you know, serious. You more so like the case law
- 30:08stuff is, is big, like what's happening in the and you know,
- 30:12not only in your region, but other regions.
- 30:14So you got to be, you got to be up on your case law.
- 30:15Like one of the big, one of the biggest things that came out
- 30:19that changed the way we did business.
- 30:21I don't know how long ago it was.
- 30:22I'd be misquoting if I I did that.
- 30:23But there was a, a case where man, law enforcement changes a
- 30:27ton right about to go back and be like, yeah, I used to do
- 30:29this, which was which was crazy at the time, it was cool.
- 30:33But now you look back and you're like, that kind of makes sense.
- 30:35So there there's a there's a capital case that came out where
- 30:38basically you, you know, I arrest you take you into custody
- 30:41for whatever it is you're driving down the road.
- 30:42I stop, you got a warrant. I search your car.
- 30:45That was normal. It's incident to an arrest.
- 30:47But now they're saying, Hey, you can't search that car unless you
- 30:50got probable cause of believe there's evidence in that car of
- 30:53that crime, right? So you do a shoplifting, it's
- 30:55easy. You just do a shoplift.
- 30:57There's merchandise in the car. Now I have probable cause search
- 30:58that car because I believe there's evidence in the car.
- 31:01But if you were DUI, what evidence is in the car?
- 31:06Yeah, unless you have open container.
- 31:08Open changes, things like that always can be circumstantial.
- 31:10Does the for for like for shoplifting, does that call have
- 31:16to come in as a shoplifting call in order for you to assume that
- 31:21it's a shoplifter or it will it, you know what I'm saying?
- 31:25Like, you can't just pull somebody over for speeding and
- 31:28be like, oh, you got groceries, you're shoplifting.
- 31:30Yeah, no, it can definitely turn into that.
- 31:32It can turn into that. Yeah.
- 31:34You know, for instance, you stop a car and he's got all these
- 31:36electronics in the back, and you're like, hey, what are you
- 31:39doing? I'm a computer scientist.
- 31:40OK, that makes sense. You know, you stop a guy who's
- 31:42got these computers in the back. What do you do for work?
- 31:45I don't work. Where you going?
- 31:47My friend's house. OK. 10 minutes later, you're
- 31:49like, hey, so where were you going?
- 31:51I was going home. Do they?
- 31:53Stories are changing, right? So now you're kind of like, I
- 31:55don't know about that. So now I'm asking for that
- 31:57consent kind of makes sense now, right?
- 31:59And he's like, yeah, you could search for.
- 32:00I got nothing to hide because he doesn't realize you're going to
- 32:02run the serial number of one of those laptops and find out it
- 32:04was stolen, taken in a burglary. And now you're, you know, you
- 32:07own the car now and everything else.
- 32:09So those things, those obviously can turn into things.
- 32:11Yeah. Is that is that part of training
- 32:13is like asking specific questions to get the truth or?
- 32:16I would say it's more experience, Yeah.
- 32:18You just got to, you'll know, Like you get done.
- 32:21You're like, oh, man, I knew there's there's something in
- 32:24there, but I I just, I don't know what.
- 32:25I didn't. And then you get your trainer to
- 32:26be like, yeah, so this may be how you could approach it next
- 32:29time, you know, doing this or doing that, you got to get real
- 32:31crafty. You really do.
- 32:33And it's not everyone's like, oh, you're doing this or that to
- 32:36the criminals. I'm like, oh, sorry, I'm sorry.
- 32:38Yeah, I'm sorry. I'm out savvy the criminals who
- 32:41out savvy you to commit their crime.
- 32:44Exactly. So I'm trying to get on their
- 32:45level. Too not real sensitive to that.
- 32:47No, I'm not. Yeah.
- 32:48What's like, what's sometimes frustrating is like how people
- 32:52think that, you know, cops are psychologists or they expect
- 32:56them to be psychologists. Expects to be everything.
- 32:58Yeah. It's crazy.
- 32:59So when I first got hired, mental health was not a thing.
- 33:01It was a thing, but we didn't deal with it, right.
- 33:04Like, what was we talked about? We didn't go.
- 33:06It was. It's there.
- 33:07We dealt with it. Yeah.
- 33:08In your own way, but. We weren't, we weren't the like,
- 33:10we weren't the, the experts in it.
- 33:14We're still not experts, but we're a lot better than we were.
- 33:17But like, I would go to a mental health call and like kind of
- 33:20like put the Band-Aid on it, 'cause I'm, I'm a criminal guy,
- 33:24right? I'm deal with a criminal.
- 33:25So this is civil or it's not criminal.
- 33:27Like my authority's kind of gone.
- 33:29I don't have much authority over somebody that's not criminal in
- 33:32nature, right? So we go to these calls, It's
- 33:34super, super difficult to deal with these mental health
- 33:37patients 'cause I'm not a doctor.
- 33:39I don't know what to do. I don't know what you're
- 33:41experiencing and wasn't trained on that.
- 33:44And so now it's like, hey, my son is having a bipolar, you
- 33:50know, or schizophrenic freak out and you got to come deal with
- 33:53this and you're like, OK, well, we're only equipped to deal with
- 33:58so much, right? And these, these people are very
- 34:01volatile. You know, they'll, they'll,
- 34:03they'll go up and down really, really fast.
- 34:05And if an officer sees that as a threat, well, guess what he's
- 34:07going to do? What does his training tell him
- 34:08to do? Take him down.
- 34:10Yeah, deal with it like he's a criminal.
- 34:11He's not a criminal, but that's, that's where your mind's going
- 34:14to go because that's what we deal with 99% of the time.
- 34:16So now we pick, you know, we do petitions, we get these people
- 34:19picked up, we take them to mental health.
- 34:20You know, we're a lot more involved.
- 34:22And I got to tell you, man, the mental health in Arizona isn't
- 34:24great, but it is it, it's there, it's good.
- 34:27And they help us out tremendously.
- 34:28They have like a no wrong door policy.
- 34:30You can show up at any mental health facilities with anybody
- 34:32that wants to go voluntarily. They're not going to tell you
- 34:34no. They're going to get them right
- 34:35in. It's gotten a lot better.
- 34:38That's good to know. Like in the in the early 2000s,
- 34:41you'd have somebody having this mental breakdown you got.
- 34:43Yeah. I don't know where to take them.
- 34:44Right. Yeah.
- 34:44Where do I take this guy? What do I do?
- 34:46Take him to the mental hospital. Where's that at?
- 34:48I don't know where that's at. Yeah.
- 34:49Take him to the actual hospital and throw it in their lap.
- 34:51And so it was like this past the buck kind of thing.
- 34:53So Arizona's gotten a lot more into the mental health, like
- 34:57they've doped in and they've realized like we needed help and
- 35:00it. It's been.
- 35:01Does it? Do you feel like it helps you
- 35:03guys? That's what I was going to ask
- 35:05because like what about for you guys?
- 35:06Cuz let's be. Honest like.
- 35:08Yeah. Like, yeah, it's.
- 35:09There's a huge support system. Yeah, yeah.
- 35:11Yeah, because I was imagine you guys need it as much or more.
- 35:14Yeah, because of what you guys see in the field.
- 35:16Yeah, it affects everybody different.
- 35:18Luckily I haven't had anything crazy where I'm like, oh man,
- 35:22like this, this I I've never really gone home and really held
- 35:24on anything emotionally, but I I can only imagine what it feels
- 35:27like when you do. Luckily, you know, thank, thank
- 35:30goodness I haven't been put in some positions like that.
- 35:32That's not to say that others haven't.
- 35:33In everybody's threshold's a little bit different.
- 35:37You know, my mindset on almost everything good, badder and
- 35:40different is that the bad guy always has a vote.
- 35:42Always, always have a vote in what happens to him.
- 35:45I have never, ever had anybody say I'm going to surrender and
- 35:49they get hurt. They come out.
- 35:51Never happened. You know, they're like, all
- 35:53right, I want to give up. OK, come on out, come out.
- 35:55Their hands up. Now, when I say hurt, I mean,
- 35:57like, actually physically, they make it, you know, smacked or
- 36:00taken down pretty hard because of whatever.
- 36:01Sorry if you're a homicide suspect.
- 36:02Yeah. You're not gonna get taken down
- 36:03gently. We know you're gonna.
- 36:05Yeah, you're gonna get taken down pretty hard.
- 36:07You're gonna get maybe some scrapes and some bruises.
- 36:08But I'm talking, we've never, you know, used force like a
- 36:12sunbag or beanbag or launcher or Arwen rounds or obviously deadly
- 36:17waterboarding. Never, Yeah, I mean never
- 36:18waterboarded anybody. You better digest.
- 36:21That would be a shame. I'm just gonna water board you.
- 36:23Guys into someone, they're like Mission, yeah.
- 36:25You are speeding, motherfucker. Yeah.
- 36:26They're like, we give up, OK, come on out.
- 36:28But if you vote the other way, like you're not going to give
- 36:30up, dude, I I'm sorry, I don't know what's about to happen and
- 36:33you have to. Protect yourself.
- 36:34Yeah, so you're like and the community.
- 36:37All I can tell you is that if you're not going to surrender,
- 36:39if you're going to stay where you are, something's happening
- 36:42to you. And what that is, I don't know,
- 36:44because we're always reactionary.
- 36:46Always like 99% of my job is, is is reaction to bad guy.
- 36:51I say bad guy. That's just a term, But not all,
- 36:53not all, not all, not everybody gets the rest of the bad guy.
- 36:55I probably shouldn't say that, but the, the, the perpetrator,
- 36:59whoever it is or whatever it be at that time, like if if you
- 37:04remain where you are, all I can tell you is that something is
- 37:07going to happen. It's probably going to suck.
- 37:09You're going to be uncomfortable.
- 37:10It could be gas, it could be a dog, it could be a a slew of
- 37:13things. You know, whatever it be.
- 37:15We shut your power off in the summer.
- 37:17It real hot inside. We're going.
- 37:18It's going to. Uncomfortable.
- 37:20Yeah, it's a tactic. When you like first started, did
- 37:26they have cell phones like where it was at?
- 37:28The recording People recording. No.
- 37:31No, that that became, it's funny you say that.
- 37:34It doesn't bother me anymore. It's it's never really bothered
- 37:37me. I think what happens is cops
- 37:39think you're like invading the privacy of the person or them.
- 37:43I think that's kind of where they get hung up on.
- 37:45But yeah, like I remember the first, the first time I ever saw
- 37:48that where I was at, there was a kind of a family fight and we
- 37:53got on scene and there's probably like 8-8 uncles and,
- 37:57and dads and sons and nephews all fighting.
- 38:01And so we got it broken up and it wasn't anything huge, but
- 38:04there was a person standing on this white fence with their
- 38:07phone. And I remember one of the
- 38:10officers was like, hey, they're recording.
- 38:11And another officer walked up and was like, smack it like
- 38:13smacks the cell phone off and, and it was like this big thing,
- 38:16but we didn't know how to react. We'd never seen that before.
- 38:18So we don't know how to react. And then obviously you Fast
- 38:21forward, you know, 15 years and everybody records us.
- 38:25It's like I've got a recording device on me now that's
- 38:29recording literally everything I do.
- 38:31But yeah, I wasn't. I think the big thing for me and
- 38:34a lot of things, a lot for officers is you can come record
- 38:37us all you want. You just just give us the space
- 38:40because I don't think people understand.
- 38:42Like, I get it. Like I'm not gonna do this.
- 38:44I'm yeah. There's been a couple times
- 38:46where the guys like, I'm cool, I'm cool.
- 38:47And the next thing you know what, we're on the ground
- 38:49fighting. Yeah, You know, And it's just
- 38:51one of those things that happens.
- 38:53So you're always got your guard up against these folk.
- 38:55And I'm sure their intentions are fine.
- 38:57They want to, you know, they got YouTube channels, they want
- 38:59content. Listen, COPS was on air for 30
- 39:03years for a reason. Because it's freaking cool,
- 39:05right? People like seeing that.
- 39:07People like seeing policemen. They do.
- 39:09They like it. And what more raw can you get
- 39:12than Listen? Cops is edited.
- 39:14They got editors. They're putting stuff on here.
- 39:16This is gonna be unedited YouTube material and people
- 39:20thrive on it. And I don't blame them.
- 39:22It gets really interesting sometimes and everybody's
- 39:25waiting for the cop to do the bad right, Right?
- 39:27Cuz bad cells, yeah. You know, do you guys get a lot
- 39:31of training from some of these videos will will like like say
- 39:34if. Yeah, they, yeah, I'm.
- 39:35Sure. Like like like the whole George
- 39:36Floyd Floyd thing did. Was that a big deal for you guys
- 39:39or not like a big deal but? There's a lot of stuff that came
- 39:42out of George Floyd thing that was kind of one of those just
- 39:44big capital cases where you're like, man, they could have just
- 39:48done a lot different stuff and nothing would have happened.
- 39:51I think they made it into a lot bigger deal than it probably
- 39:53needed to be. When you say they talk about
- 39:56like media and all that or yeah. Yeah, media.
- 39:58I would say media, it's one of like the worst.
- 40:01I'd I'd rather listen to like some guy on YouTube over the
- 40:04media. 100%. You know, fear sells.
- 40:08I saw in trouble sells. Everyone wants to see everybody
- 40:10in trouble. Yeah.
- 40:11Like when's the last time you saw they?
- 40:12And they want to spit the story or.
- 40:14They do the feel good story and it's like 10 seconds like, oh,
- 40:17look at what this officer did. I just watched a story where an
- 40:20officer we and I've done it. I've done it without
- 40:24recognition. I don't, I don't care.
- 40:25I don't want the recognition. But we had a guy specifically, I
- 40:27can remember he was a Taco Bell employee.
- 40:30It was like 1 in the morning and he's on his way.
- 40:32He stops at a crosswalk, some guy walks up, stabs him and
- 40:35steals his bike. And so we get him the medical
- 40:39and everything else. His bike got stolen.
- 40:41Well, we go, we do follow up at the house.
- 40:43Well, he doesn't. You would think he was going to
- 40:45the Taco Bell like right there. No, the talk about he worked at
- 40:48was like 6 miles, 7 miles down the road.
- 40:50He probably passed 4 Taco Bells on the way to his Taco Bell,
- 40:53right? And so the whole squad was like,
- 40:54dude, let's go get this guy a bike.
- 40:56So we went and bought him a brand new bike, a bike light, a
- 40:58helmet, you know, and all this stuff.
- 41:00We gave it to him and you don't hear stuff like that.
- 41:02And that happens every day. I'm talking about this every
- 41:03day. And I think I just saw a story
- 41:06where like the officer pulled in.
- 41:09God, where was it? It was in Cali.
- 41:11Oh, it was a car seat. It was a car seat.
- 41:13So this officer stops this guy, his daughter doesn't have a car
- 41:17seat and he's like, why isn't your daughter in a car seat?
- 41:19He's like, I can't afford it, man.
- 41:20In tough times, he's like, all right, follow me to Walmart.
- 41:23So they go to Walmart. He outfits him with his daughter
- 41:25with his car seat. They go buy it.
- 41:27And then it's funny because of the the citizen, he's like, he
- 41:30gets it strapped in. He's like, oh, this is great.
- 41:32He turns around and it's like the officer was he like vanished
- 41:35into thin air? You know, he's like, I wanted to
- 41:38say thank you. Well, that's the thing.
- 41:39That officer didn't want to be told thank you.
- 41:41He's just doing it because he wants to do it.
- 41:42You hear those stories all the time, but they're like this big.
- 41:45Yeah. And then when an officer does
- 41:46something bad, you hear about it all day long, 30 minute
- 41:50segments. Look what this officer did and
- 41:52whether they did something wrong.
- 41:54Listen, we all we all make mistakes, right?
- 41:56Hopefully it's not bad. It doesn't.
- 41:58You know, hopefully nobody loses our life over a bad mistake.
- 42:01Those are bad, right? We don't ever want that to
- 42:03happen. But they're going to make
- 42:05mistakes. Officers are going to make
- 42:06mistakes. They are people.
- 42:07You know, if you, again, if you've got an officer that's
- 42:10never been in a situation before and you're asking to make this
- 42:12crazy good decision, like, sorry, man, it's just not going
- 42:15to happen. But the, the support, you know,
- 42:19is good until it's not. So you get a lot of the
- 42:22political pressure. And as soon as they put politics
- 42:24and police, it just, it ruined the profession.
- 42:27It really did. Yeah.
- 42:29There's just really no place for politics in it.
- 42:30Yeah, I saw on the news, one of the news anchor guys or
- 42:36journalists, whatever, they put him through, and this was here
- 42:39in Phoenix. They put him through like a
- 42:41scenario. He had like a fake gun.
- 42:44Jared Maupin. You know what I'm talking about.
- 42:47Reverend Maupin, Yeah. Went out with county.
- 42:49Yeah, shot the guy because he was in my zone.
- 42:51Yeah, yeah, yeah. And he was, you know, the guy
- 42:54wasn't armed or nothing. Funny story about that.
- 42:57So that guy, that guy does that whole thing, right?
- 42:59He's like, Oh yeah, I realized this, that and the other.
- 43:01And he's like, the next day, he's out there just marching.
- 43:05Oh, really? The next day, Oh, God, yeah,
- 43:08he's out there marching, taking his.
- 43:10And then as I understand, this is rumor.
- 43:12But as I understand, like they kind of drew a line at the
- 43:14freeway. This guy's marching with his,
- 43:16with his people and totally respect it, right?
- 43:19I don't respect shutting down roadways and getting in motor
- 43:22sway. I don't support that.
- 43:24I support you on the sidewalk doing whatever you want to do.
- 43:26Exactly. Don't block the roadway.
- 43:28It's crazy, right? But they're, they're doing their
- 43:32thing in their March and they actually, they actually will if
- 43:34you call, right. If you were like, hey, we want
- 43:36to March. They'll actually close down,
- 43:37make a route for you on a, on a really.
- 43:40Yeah. Like they're not going to do it
- 43:41on a Tuesday in downtown when, when the city of Phoenix is
- 43:44thriving on work day. Yeah.
- 43:46But you know, Friday after everybody's gone home, they'll,
- 43:49you know, they'll work with you. They'll, they'll absolutely work
- 43:51with you. Yeah, that's interesting.
- 43:52Free. What do you want to call it?
- 43:54Free Press areas and and certain spots where you can do your
- 43:58thing. So anyway, that's what I was
- 44:00saying was like, so they're marching and they're not working
- 44:04on the freeway. And the Police Department had
- 44:07been like, you're not getting on the freeway.
- 44:08That's our line. Our line in the Santa is the
- 44:10freeway. You're not coming up this
- 44:11freeway. You're not shutting down the
- 44:12I-10. So they're going there.
- 44:14They turn, they go on the freeway.
- 44:18God, my God, the forces clash, right?
- 44:20That guy's nowhere to be found. Like he marched his people in
- 44:23there and then left. Yeah.
- 44:23I don't know if that's 100% true with it.
- 44:25Like that's allegedly totally. Something might be like, yeah,
- 44:28that probably happened. Yeah.
- 44:29You know, I don't know if he did that or not, but that's what I
- 44:31heard. I mean, I wouldn't put it.
- 44:32I don't know the guy. Yeah, but for what He, yeah, I
- 44:35don't know. Whatever you know, and they set
- 44:37him up, good on him for going through it for one, right?
- 44:40I'm like, dude, good on you for for trying.
- 44:42And again, you put him in a situation where he doesn't know
- 44:45what to do, so you can't judge him either.
- 44:48So he's like, I shot this guy cuz XYZ and you're like, OK,
- 44:51that's why we have the training and things.
- 44:52But I understand that that's what happens.
- 44:54Like that's how fast it can happen.
- 44:56Yeah. And that's not even like it
- 44:57wasn't even real. No, it's all.
- 44:58Stage. It's all stage.
- 44:59Yeah, he's got two guys just shoving, fighting, and he's up
- 45:03there like, hey, Sir, Sir. Well, now what do you do when
- 45:05they don't break up? You know, all right, you're
- 45:07going to get in the middle of them or you're going to take the
- 45:08loser. You're going to take the winner.
- 45:10What are you going to do here? Start betting?
- 45:11And it's one of those things. He never been put in that
- 45:13position, right? So he's like, I don't know what
- 45:15to do. I'm like, yeah, that's how cops
- 45:16feel, right? Right.
- 45:17That's how you. Don't know until you've been
- 45:19through it, yeah. You show up, you know, even,
- 45:22excuse me, you're in year 3-4. You show up to something, you're
- 45:25like, I've never seen this before.
- 45:26I don't know what to do. You're just going to try to make
- 45:28the best decision you can at that moment and live with it.
- 45:30And unfortunately, sometimes it's a really bad decision and
- 45:33you're fired or worse, you go to jail and you lose everything,
- 45:37which is crazy that you got to gamble like that.
- 45:39Or two, you make a or 4 you you make a good decision and nobody
- 45:43talks about it. Yeah, there's.
- 45:45You hope that. That's right.
- 45:46And then, yeah. And you get that experience.
- 45:48And then hopefully, like something happens again and you
- 45:51show up and there's somebody new there.
- 45:53You're like, woah, check this out.
- 45:54I can solve this problem. And you know, one of the most
- 45:57powerful things in law enforcement is collective
- 45:59thinking, critical thinking, collective thinking.
- 46:02And it's so simple sometimes, yeah, and we do it, but it's so
- 46:06simple. You're, you're trying to solve
- 46:08this this labyrinth problem. And then somebody's like, what
- 46:12about that window? It's perspective, right?
- 46:14You're like, Oh yeah. You don't even see that window.
- 46:16Yeah, yeah. Yeah, cuz people get so tunneled
- 46:19into into their idea, yeah. And that's the other thing is
- 46:21like, you're not like I think we mentioned it earlier, like human
- 46:24performance, right? Like you, you can't get outside
- 46:26human performance. We're not robots, right?
- 46:29So as much as many things as I've done been seen and been a
- 46:34part of, I still get tunnel vision, I still get auditor
- 46:36exclusion, you know, I still get adrenaline dumps, you know,
- 46:40hyper focused. And sometimes it takes that
- 46:4330,000 foot overview, like we call it to kind of reel you
- 46:45back. Like I see something I'm like,
- 46:47let's push it. And they're like, we can't
- 46:48because look over there. And I'm like, oh, wait, I didn't
- 46:49see that things. And it's just because you don't
- 46:51see it at the moment. So a lot of that factors into
- 46:54you're like, what did the officer actually know when they
- 46:55made their decision? So it's.
- 46:58Kind of so like not only do you guys like I mean how training
- 47:01and physical stuff, but yes, is that training in like that
- 47:05mental part of like thinking, you know what I'm saying?
- 47:08Yeah, I would say you do that every night.
- 47:12You should be doing that every night.
- 47:13So you're driving around and you go to a call, you deal with the
- 47:16call. And then after the call you
- 47:17should be going like, what if this happened?
- 47:18What if that happened? And you are, you're, you are
- 47:20actually building a neural pathway in your mind of a
- 47:24decision that could have been made, you know, it had this gone
- 47:27awry, had this gone crazy. So I feel like you're doing that
- 47:30all the time. And then you're also running
- 47:32scenarios like as you're going there.
- 47:33So one of the, I would say one of my best traits in this job, I
- 47:37think I do it pretty well, is just thinking ahead.
- 47:40And I found myself doing it yesterday, just talking out loud
- 47:42with some of these newer guys on our attack team.
- 47:44I was like, dude, try to get ahead of the curve.
- 47:48Try to already have a decision made before it's made.
- 47:51And they're kind of like, I know what you mean, but what do you
- 47:53mean? I'm like, well, think about it.
- 47:55If you do like a high risk traffic stop, right?
- 47:56So let's say you just got a criminal who just created a just
- 48:00did armed robbery. You already know he's armed.
- 48:04You go to stop him. What's going to happen?
- 48:07He's going to do a couple things, right?
- 48:08You got to plan on both. He can stop, he can run, right?
- 48:13He can pull over, get you to stop and then take off again.
- 48:15So you're trying to think of like all these things that can
- 48:17happen. And then I started rattling, I
- 48:18started to rattle off like 15 things.
- 48:20I'm like, so let's just say it's two people.
- 48:22They did an armed robbery. You stop them and they stop.
- 48:26They're gonna, they can get out and you get into shooting,
- 48:28right? The passenger can stay in, the
- 48:30driver can get out and run. The driver can stay, the
- 48:33passenger can run. The passenger can run.
- 48:35The driver can get out and start shooting.
- 48:37Both of them can get out and start shooting.
- 48:39Both of them can get out and run.
- 48:41The passenger could get out and the driver could take off.
- 48:44Vice versa. They could stop, pretend they're
- 48:48giving up and then take off again.
- 48:50I think I just mentioned that one.
- 48:51But what if they switch seats and then they take off?
- 48:54Like those are all that's information.
- 48:55You got to take off. But all these things, right?
- 48:57And you gotta be thinking all ahead of that.
- 48:58And that's just one thing. It's just like 1/1 scenario 1
- 49:02little instance in law enforcement like.
- 49:04That's just going up to the car. Yeah, that's not even.
- 49:06Hosted by the end of the day. And so like I was, I told them
- 49:10we were doing, we were doing hostage rescue training the
- 49:12other day. And I'm like, hey, so before we
- 49:14do this, what information do we have?
- 49:16How many hostages do we have? How many hostages do we have?
- 49:20How big is the structure? Do we know where they are?
- 49:24You know, do we have robots with eyes on them?
- 49:25Can we, do we know what they're wearing?
- 49:27So these are all these things that they're like, Oh, yeah,
- 49:29yeah. Cuz it changes.
- 49:31The tactics on a known hostage location is completely different
- 49:35than an unknown hostage location.
- 49:36And then I'm like, OK, they're like, OK, we're ready.
- 49:38I'm like, OK, so we're going, yeah, we're going.
- 49:41All right. So we know where the hostage is.
- 49:42We know where the hostage taker is.
- 49:43Yeah, we know there's two of them.
- 49:44Yeah. OK, you open this door and
- 49:45there's a person standing there. Now what?
- 49:47Because I just threw off your whole loot loop, your whole
- 49:48decision making process is now changing because you're you're
- 49:51like, I'm going right to this room, you step in and now
- 49:54there's somebody in the kitchen. Now what you got to think about
- 49:56that so that your decision's already made.
- 49:58You're like, all right, if somebody's in the kitchen, then
- 50:00I'm going to address them and I'll let the rest of the team go
- 50:01by. So when it happens, you're not
- 50:03like, what do I do? You've already made the
- 50:04decision, right? So I always try to harp on that
- 50:08with with young cops and cops coming up.
- 50:10I'm like, try to make those, try to think of as many
- 50:13possibilities as what can happen.
- 50:15And then that way if it happens, you're like, I kind of already
- 50:18made that decision. You're kind of already ahead of
- 50:19the power curve. I think that that's one of those
- 50:22powerful tools in law enforcement.
- 50:23I think I do it really, really well.
- 50:26I think it it comes from the canine side as well.
- 50:28I get to do a lot of training with canine.
- 50:29We train every week. And then obviously on the SWAT
- 50:32side, it helped big time too. But when I go to these calls, I
- 50:34go to these critical calls. That's what you're that's what
- 50:37I'm thinking about. I'm like, OK, what's this guy
- 50:38going to do? He's got here's all these
- 50:40options and then he'll do the one option I didn't think of and
- 50:42I'm like, I don't have an answer for that right this second.
- 50:44What do? You do you just tell him, hey,
- 50:46hold on, hold on. Yeah, let me hold on.
- 50:47Let me think about. This.
- 50:48I'm like the quarterback, dude. Yeah, it's not on the playbook.
- 50:52I need a new heart man coach. Gonna get one of the signs, all
- 50:55of us. I don't know what to do.
- 50:56I don't know what coverage this is.
- 50:57Yeah. But I think what you said like
- 51:00goes back to what I was telling Tyler the other day is like you
- 51:03guys using your mind before your physical is it is like key to
- 51:07this. Huge mental game.
- 51:08Because like when when he first started going through this, he's
- 51:10like, Oh my God, everything. And this has got to be like, I
- 51:13have to be the aggressor and I have to be physical.
- 51:15I said you, dude, you got to think like you got to use your
- 51:17mind before you use. Your body 100%.
- 51:19And to hear you say that and somebody that's been doing it
- 51:21for damn near 20 years just reinforces like, I, I, I mean, I
- 51:25have the utmost respect for what you guys do, right?
- 51:27Like I, I personally, I, I've never done it.
- 51:31I don't know that I could do it, but the control that you guys
- 51:35show, but also the fact that you guys openly are talking about
- 51:39thinking through the process, right, is understanding what am
- 51:42I walking into, what are the potential situations I'm going
- 51:45to put myself in, and how am I going to work through this?
- 51:48Yeah, I think is key to 1. The fact that you're doing this
- 51:52for almost 20 years and you're sitting here talking to us about
- 51:54this. Sure.
- 51:55Yeah, 100%. You know what I mean?
- 51:56And then, and then I throw in the monkey wrench right now you
- 52:00get a call. I'll give you a call.
- 52:01The other night I took, but now I take time away from you.
- 52:05Now you don't have that time. What are you?
- 52:07What are you resorting in or what do you resort to?
- 52:09It's training experience. It's all you got.
- 52:11So you're hoping that this problem you've seen before so
- 52:14you can hopefully solve it the way you solved it last time.
- 52:17But yeah, we're just, we're sitting at a church after some
- 52:20training. This just happened like 2 weeks
- 52:22ago, sitting at a church training.
- 52:24And you know, it's it's July, so there's always fireworks, right?
- 52:29So we're sitting there and it's probably right around midnight.
- 52:32And it's like, you hear these three shots.
- 52:35I'm like, I look at my butt and I'm like, those aren't, those
- 52:41aren't, those aren't fireworks. He's like, and then next thing
- 52:43you know, PA, PA, PA, there's return fire from another, from
- 52:45another gun. And then you hear the, the first
- 52:48gun go off the bat. So there's like 3 rounds fired
- 52:51and then there's like 8 or 9 return fire.
- 52:53And then there's like four or five more return fire from that.
- 52:56And I'm like, Yep, there's a rolling gunfight right here.
- 53:00Like coming our way is what sound like.
- 53:02So I'm sitting on the. Road, When you say rolling,
- 53:03you're talking about like I think it's.
- 53:04Like a road rage? Yeah, it sounds like a road
- 53:06rage. That's what it sounded like to
- 53:07me. So cuz it sounded like it was
- 53:09farther away in closing. Games closer.
- 53:11And it was definitely two different volleys of two
- 53:14different firearms. They were definitely two
- 53:15different cars. So I put it out on the radio.
- 53:17I'm like, hey, this is what's happening.
- 53:18Sensing units, we're coming into that.
- 53:20So I'm getting ready to turn the corner, and then that's it, man.
- 53:24Like what? What's in front of you is what's
- 53:25in front of you? What am I gonna do?
- 53:26I didn't have time. I didn't have time to think
- 53:28about anything other than there's two cars.
- 53:31Like, that's what I think. I'm gonna come around the
- 53:33corner, coming out of a parking lot onto the main roadway, and
- 53:35I'm gonna see two cars, like bashing each other or it's gonna
- 53:37be wiped out. And the other one, you know,
- 53:38there's gonna be people shooting at each other.
- 53:40It's like Mario Kart. Yeah.
- 53:41And it, yeah, it's gonna be, they're trying to pop each
- 53:43other's balloons, you know, And I'm like, turtles are flying.
- 53:46Yeah, banana peels. You know, they don't expect us
- 53:50to be there, like, yeah, coming around the corner.
- 53:52So now I come around the corner, I'm holding a rifle, You're
- 53:54holding a gun. And I'm like, hey, drop it.
- 53:56Well, guess what? That person doesn't hear,
- 53:58probably doesn't hear me. Yeah, you know, 'cause he's
- 54:00pissed off. They have auditory exclusion.
- 54:02They have all these things. But if you're holding a gun and
- 54:05you're pointing at somebody, unfortunately, you're going to
- 54:08probably get shot. What if that guy was defending
- 54:10himself? Oh yeah, shot the wrong person,
- 54:13Yeah. You got to live with that, you
- 54:16know what I'm saying? Those are those are the tough
- 54:17ones. Yeah.
- 54:18But nobody trains you for that. So and that that happened to me
- 54:22at at a there was a bar. Well, hold on, what?
- 54:26What's what happened to that situation?
- 54:30So we rolled down the corner, you could hear the cars.
- 54:32A couple callers called in. We ended up finding the shell
- 54:35cases and things like that, but nobody called in.
- 54:36No, nobody went to the any calls from the hospital.
- 54:38It was just kind of one of those.
- 54:40We have the casings. Oh, gotcha.
- 54:43So somebody didn't come around with you right there?
- 54:46What do you mean? Or was that just an example?
- 54:49No, I went around. That was a real, that's a real
- 54:51call. I went around the corner to find
- 54:52them in Never. They weren't on the roadway.
- 54:55Oh, not that that's why I thought it was gonna be yeah,
- 54:58coming around the corner is nothing.
- 54:59There was nothing. So I'm all hyped up on Mountain
- 55:01Dew and there's really nothing There's there's no work to be
- 55:03done. And then so I, I get up to the
- 55:05next street and I'm like looking around like where's where's this
- 55:07gunfight going on? You know?
- 55:09Yeah. And then a couple people called
- 55:10in and said that they, they thought they split and one car
- 55:12went S 1 car went N So we're thinking there's gonna be shot
- 55:15up cars. So we search the area for shot
- 55:17up cars. We're looking for casings.
- 55:18We call the hospital like, hey, if you get anybody coming in
- 55:20with a. Gunshot wounds.
- 55:22Or, you know, there's a gunshot wound and they're like, Oh yeah,
- 55:24I just accidentally did this give us a call.
- 55:26Like we just probably had some a shooting here.
- 55:29But that's all that came out of that.
- 55:30But you know, back to what I was saying.
- 55:32So we get a, we get a call at a bar, local bar and there's a
- 55:35shoot. There's a guy upset.
- 55:36This is how fast it happens. There's a guy upset in the bar
- 55:39yelling at the manager. I'm like, OK, I'll go to that.
- 55:43So I start going to that because so I'm the canine unit.
- 55:46So all I do is go to priority calls.
- 55:47So I don't go to anything. Anything that's in progress is
- 55:50what I'm going to like. I don't show up to take the, the
- 55:54walk out at Denny's that happened three hours ago.
- 55:56You know, I don't, I don't take like a stolen car that happened
- 55:58yesterday. I don't, I will take those if I
- 56:00need to, But for the most part, I'm just going to active calls.
- 56:03So I hear this call come out and I'm like, I'm kind of bored.
- 56:06I guess I'll go to that. So I start, I literally pull out
- 56:09of the parking lot that I'm, I'm chilling in and I start going
- 56:11that way. And about 10 seconds later the
- 56:13hot tone comes out. I'm like, oh geez, is that the
- 56:16same call or is that a new call? So if I'm going to this call,
- 56:18that could be another call just so they upgrade it.
- 56:20What's that? What's that hot tone?
- 56:22It's like an emergency tone. Usually they come out on active
- 56:26stuff like robberies and shootings got you jabbings and
- 56:29you know, things like that. So the hot tone comes out, you
- 56:31know, get this long and then you're like, oh, what's that?
- 56:34Hey, oh, so the hot tone comes out and then they upgrade it.
- 56:38They're like, hey, this guy's going out to his car, so he's
- 56:41going to grab a gun, things like that.
- 56:42So I'm like, oh, crap. So I look at the screen, we have
- 56:44a map where you can see where everybody's at.
- 56:46I'm I'm the only one. Like there's nobody even close.
- 56:49So I'm like, all right, let me drive like a little bit slower
- 56:54and I'll try to let a couple of my guys catch up so I don't have
- 56:56to go there alone, right? So I'm driving, I'm like coming
- 57:01off the freeway. It's like a mile off the
- 57:03freeway. So I'm pretty close.
- 57:05And I'm looking at the map and I see some guys moving.
- 57:07I'm like, OK, these guys are coming.
- 57:09Cool. And I'm trying to kind of get
- 57:11there at the same time. Yeah.
- 57:13And the next thing you know, they're like, hey, he's actually
- 57:16shooting. I'm like, fuck that.
- 57:17Like it's me now it's me. I'm showing up.
- 57:20This is go time. Like it is what it is.
- 57:22And I'm just going to train. I'm going to trust my ability
- 57:26with a with a rifle and my tactics versus some Joe Citizen.
- 57:29And, you know, if he gets a lucky bullet, he gets a lucky
- 57:31bullet. But it is what it is.
- 57:32So I go rolling in there and I'm like, get out of my car.
- 57:35And they're like, right as I'm getting on scene, they're like,
- 57:38hey, they're reporting that the guy left.
- 57:41You know, he's wearing this hat. Here's what he's wearing.
- 57:43This is what he's driving. And he left.
- 57:45We got one patron shot inside the bar.
- 57:48And I'm like, OK, well, now I kind of switch modes, right?
- 57:52Because this is usually good info.
- 57:53It's not usually bad. Like nobody's no citizens
- 57:56usually calling and giving us bad info.
- 57:57It's just not really a thing that happens.
- 57:59It happens every once in a while.
- 58:00But so I'm like, all right, so I shift, I'm like, OK, I'm going
- 58:04to medical mode. So I get out of my car.
- 58:06They're grabbing a medical bag and now I can kind of hear the
- 58:09sirens coming. So I'm like, all right, here.
- 58:11The the boys are coming. You hear my friends, they're on
- 58:14their way. So I get out and I start walking
- 58:17up there with my medical bag. And you know, I'll admit, I let
- 58:19my guard down a little bit because I'm thinking I'm, I'm
- 58:21going to go in there and and tourniquet a leg or patch a leg
- 58:24or do something like that. And I roll up and I see two guys
- 58:27with guns like pointing at a car.
- 58:29I'm like, oh, shit. So drop the bag, draw down.
- 58:32And they're lucky it was me. I'll be honest with you because
- 58:36I'm like, hey, dude, like he's kind of in one of those stances
- 58:40where he's like, I'm like, what is this guy doing?
- 58:41Because he's not like shooting currently.
- 58:44But and he's just kind of standing in like this weird
- 58:46stance and it's him on, on there's a car.
- 58:50So he's kind of on the I'm I'm kind of approaching from the
- 58:52rear driver area. He's standing on the on like the
- 58:55rear passenger side. And then there's another guy
- 58:58standing on like the passenger side up by like the front corner
- 59:01panel by the windshield. And they both have guns.
- 59:03So I draw. I'm like, hey, man, back up.
- 59:06And he's like, OK, He starts backing up.
- 59:07I'm like, I got immediate compliance, right?
- 59:10I'm like, drop, put the gun down, drop it.
- 59:12He's I'm like, I'm here now. Well, what if he doesn't?
- 59:14Right. Yeah.
- 59:15I don't know what's going on. Yeah.
- 59:17Long story short, the guy that was shooting into the bar was
- 59:20shot by those guys, right? Yeah.
- 59:23So it's Arizona. It's a right to carry stage.
- 59:26They did what they were supposed to do as citizens and they shot
- 59:29this guy who was, in my opinion, an active shooter at that time.
- 59:31He'd shot somebody in the bar already.
- 59:33He was indiscriminately shooting through the front door of the
- 59:35bar. And these two guys happen to be
- 59:36there and probably saved a bunch of lives.
- 59:39And that story can go a lot different, you know?
- 59:43And luckily they backed up, they listened, they put their guns
- 59:45down. We end up pulling the guy out.
- 59:48We render medical aid to that guy.
- 59:49He unfortunately passes away and they now they have another scene
- 59:54inside. They gotta go inside and render
- 59:55aid in there. We gotta render aid out here
- 59:56now. We gotta separate these guys.
- 59:57There's a bunch of work to be done now, but that could end
- 1:00:00different, you know, You know. This situation very well.
- 1:00:02You get yeah, yeah, you probably know that situation.
- 1:00:06You know this situation very well.
- 1:00:07Oh, yeah, Yeah. You probably know.
- 1:00:09Yeah. It's a situation that I think a
- 1:00:11lot of people actually, I, I, I got texts from quite a few
- 1:00:13people about that. Yeah.
- 1:00:14So I was actually first on scene for that, yeah.
- 1:00:16Yeah. I mean, we could probably talk
- 1:00:17about that after yeah, but the luckily I didn't the guys that.
- 1:00:22Just pipe that guy, dude, like, like if things happen, but if I
- 1:00:27show up and that guy's actively shooting, what's the information
- 1:00:29I got or, or say dispatch say dispatch doesn't say the guy
- 1:00:32left. Yeah.
- 1:00:34And I show up and I see a guy actively shooting.
- 1:00:36What am I going to think? And, and I don't think people
- 1:00:38realize that we don't get all the information that began.
- 1:00:41Well, like the whole Trump thing, the whole communication,
- 1:00:44right? Yeah, it has to.
- 1:00:45Somebody has to call in to go to dispatch, to go to you, I mean.
- 1:00:50And think about all the things that I just said that factored
- 1:00:52into that. I slowed down a little bit.
- 1:00:54I wasn't driving with my hair on fire.
- 1:00:56So let's say I do drive really, really fast.
- 1:00:58I get there too fast. And they're.
- 1:01:00Actively shooting and if you've ever seen there's a video,
- 1:01:02there's like if you're one step too, it's I think it's like an
- 1:01:05Al Pacino quote from any given Sunday.
- 1:01:10He's like, if you, if you step too fast, you're, you know,
- 1:01:13you're screwed. If you're too slow, one second
- 1:01:15too slow, you know, life's a game of inches and things like
- 1:01:18that. But there's like a big montage
- 1:01:20of that, that he that he says on in the locker room at the
- 1:01:22halftime when they're down. And I'm thinking that, you know,
- 1:01:25if I get there, you know, 2 minutes, 30 seconds earlier,
- 1:01:29dispatch never puts out that that guy left.
- 1:01:30And I show up and those guys are doing what they were supposed to
- 1:01:33lawfully supposed to do, and they're shooting that guy.
- 1:01:35And I get out from 30 yards away with a rifle, dot that guy in
- 1:01:39the face. Yeah, put him down.
- 1:01:41And I'm like, hey, shooters down.
- 1:01:42I get up there and I'm like, wait a minute, there's another
- 1:01:44guy down over here. What happened to this guy?
- 1:01:45Yeah, they're like, well, that's the guy that was shooting into
- 1:01:47the bar. And I'm like, what about this
- 1:01:50guy? So that guy was defending the
- 1:01:52bar. That's the shit that stuff to
- 1:01:54do. It's like you guys are playing.
- 1:01:55That's the one that would probably put me like put me into
- 1:01:57like that spiral of like, Oh my God, dude.
- 1:02:00Like I just ended that guys life.
- 1:02:03I took him from his family. His he was.
- 1:02:04Doing the right thing. And he was doing the right
- 1:02:06thing, dude. And I just didn't have the info,
- 1:02:08like, not to say that I did the wrong thing.
- 1:02:10Yeah, right. But now.
- 1:02:11You You did what you thought you needed.
- 1:02:13To do with the information. Now you get to live with that.
- 1:02:15Yeah, that's the stuff that's heavy in the law enforcement
- 1:02:18community that people don't understand.
- 1:02:20Like you think you're doing the right thing, and then you find
- 1:02:22out you made a not a bad decision, but you made a
- 1:02:26decision based on the information that you had.
- 1:02:28And then you're judged on, you shot an innocent person and
- 1:02:31you're like, yeah, that's not what I did, man.
- 1:02:33That's not what I did. But they don't want to hear
- 1:02:35that. It's like you're playing a
- 1:02:36really fast, dangerous game of Clue, yeah.
- 1:02:40It is, dude. Nobody's ever said that.
- 1:02:42But you're right, it is. It's it's perspective too, man.
- 1:02:45Like once you hear it, it it's also different, right, Because
- 1:02:48I've known Shane for a long time and Shane and I never really
- 1:02:51talked about we talk about football and sports and we we
- 1:02:55talk shit to each other on a on a, which I take great right in
- 1:02:58doing. But we talk, we talk shit into
- 1:03:00like a Facebook group and I'm always putting dudes on blast,
- 1:03:03you know? And so that's how he knows me,
- 1:03:05right? But he doesn't know the the guy.
- 1:03:07Yeah, he doesn't. Know this side of me and, you
- 1:03:10know, I think when it comes from somebody, you know, you're like,
- 1:03:13oh, man, like Jesus. And we make those decisions
- 1:03:17weekly. Daily.
- 1:03:18Yeah. I have a whole different it will
- 1:03:20it'll change. Your mind it is.
- 1:03:21Yeah. It'll change your mind real
- 1:03:22quick. Well, I remember the whole
- 1:03:25George Floyd thing going on and sure, you did a really good job
- 1:03:30in articulating your side of a lot of things because you know,
- 1:03:36like on Facebook, people, you know, it's armchair quarterback
- 1:03:40and you know what? I.
- 1:03:40Mean I would have done this. Yeah, but would you have?
- 1:03:42Yeah, I mean, I mean, like one of the things that I learned
- 1:03:46just from reading you and these debates and everything is and
- 1:03:50that I never put into the into perspective is you get 1 bad
- 1:03:54contact with the police officer. But there's like 5000 other that
- 1:03:58day, you know, that nobody hears about, right, You know what I'm
- 1:04:02saying? Because that I mean, just that
- 1:04:04whole narrative of like, you know, black people are going to
- 1:04:08get, you know, if you if you get pulled over, you're probably 90%
- 1:04:12chance of getting shot if you're black.
- 1:04:13Yeah, you know what I'm saying? But that's not.
- 1:04:15And I would go, it's funny you say that I go the other way.
- 1:04:18I go completely the other way. I am so sensitive to that
- 1:04:21community because I don't want to be involved in that.
- 1:04:25Like when I, when I stop people, I, I work in a predominantly
- 1:04:28Hispanic area and when I stop them, they're not.
- 1:04:32You do get the racial thing every once in a while.
- 1:04:34It's it's not that big of a deal here.
- 1:04:36I could assume it's it's like that other places.
- 1:04:38Every once in a while you get the whole law.
- 1:04:39You're racist, you're racist. I'm like, I couldn't be further
- 1:04:41from racist as as could be, but like, dude, I'm hyper focused on
- 1:04:47not being racist, like on giving you that fair handshake, like
- 1:04:50treating everybody the same because no, no officer goes
- 1:04:53wakes up in the in the middle, you know, in the morning to go
- 1:04:56their shifts and be like, all right.
- 1:04:59Yeah, let's do some racist shit today.
- 1:05:01I'm. Going to pick on this group
- 1:05:02today. It's it's, it's actually I
- 1:05:04think, where's my? Hood at where?
- 1:05:05We are, I think it's the opposite.
- 1:05:06We're we're more sensitive to trying to treat them fairly and,
- 1:05:11and equal. And I, I get it, man, from
- 1:05:13theirs. I always try to put myself in
- 1:05:15their shoes too, you know, and, and, and really be like, yeah, I
- 1:05:19know that's how you feel, man. Is there anything I can do to
- 1:05:21make you not feel that way? That's one of the bigger lines
- 1:05:23that I do use. Like, is there anything I'm not
- 1:05:26stepping out of this car? Is there anything I can do to
- 1:05:29make to like make you step out of the car?
- 1:05:31Is there anything I can do? Like, can I back up?
- 1:05:33Can I not do this? Can I not do that within reason?
- 1:05:36Like I'm not going to go sit back in my car when you get out
- 1:05:38of your car. But I always ask for like, what
- 1:05:40can I do to gain your voluntary compliance?
- 1:05:42Because if not, then guess what I have to do.
- 1:05:43And I'll try to, I try to explain it to him.
- 1:05:45But again, you're talking about time.
- 1:05:47Like I got time. If I have time, good time, I can
- 1:05:50make those comments. I can make the situation better
- 1:05:53if you're in bad time, which means things are happening right
- 1:05:56now. I got to make a decision.
- 1:05:58Those things can't. They're not going to come to
- 1:06:00light. And I, I again, I've talked my
- 1:06:02way out of more way more fights than I've been in by doing those
- 1:06:05things. It's funny because I just had a
- 1:06:06scenario that I ran last week. This, this, this isn't a real
- 1:06:09call. It's just a scenario that I'm in
- 1:06:11and I'm in a, in a canine search.
- 1:06:13My canine alert's on a door. We start to deal with that.
- 1:06:16And then the third shooter on the grassy Knoll pops up.
- 1:06:18I mean, he's on, he's on top. He's up on this like loft.
- 1:06:22And so now I've got these these split problems and I'm like, all
- 1:06:24right, well, let's just let's take the dog out of the equation
- 1:06:27right now. We've got we've got two guys.
- 1:06:29We don't need to do anything right this second.
- 1:06:30Let's back out, give ourselves a little bit of time, a little bit
- 1:06:32of space, call the dog back, grab the dog.
- 1:06:35So now I'm dealing with this guy and I'm like, OK, we'll deal
- 1:06:38with the guy that's in the backroom in a minute.
- 1:06:40This guy's out in the open. Let's deal with him right now.
- 1:06:43Well, when I do that, guess what happens.
- 1:06:44Yeah. And the room comes out and runs.
- 1:06:46So I'm like, OK, send my dog to grab that guy.
- 1:06:49Now we push past this dude to deal with that guy because he's
- 1:06:52actively being bit by the dog. So we got to deal with that guy.
- 1:06:55We get that guy secured and done.
- 1:06:57Now we're dealing with this guy, right?
- 1:06:58And he's like, I'm not coming down.
- 1:06:59I'm like, dude, why not? He's like, well, I'm scared of
- 1:07:02your dog. I'm like, cool, if I leave the
- 1:07:03building with my dog, will you come down for the officers?
- 1:07:06Well, no. Well then you're not really
- 1:07:08scared of my dog. Yeah.
- 1:07:09So I just told you I'll leave if that's if that's what it takes.
- 1:07:12That's what it gets to. Yeah.
- 1:07:13I don't need to. I don't need to be in here with
- 1:07:14my dog. If you're willing to surrender.
- 1:07:16Well, I only, I'm only going to surrender to one of you.
- 1:07:19Well, that's not going to happen.
- 1:07:20Yeah, it's outside the realm. But if you're like, yeah, if you
- 1:07:23leave, I don't like that guy right there with a rifle.
- 1:07:26I don't like that guy's aggressive.
- 1:07:28You know, he's got a rifle. That's that's a bad dude.
- 1:07:30I'm not coming down until that guy's gone.
- 1:07:31Cool. Hey, man, you step out.
- 1:07:33Sure, he steps out. You got to put your pride and
- 1:07:35ego away sometimes. Yeah, but the caveat is, and
- 1:07:38I'll tell these guys, I'll say, OK, he's going to leave the
- 1:07:40building. But if you don't surrender, he's
- 1:07:42coming back in because I'm going to call you on your on your BS.
- 1:07:44You know, so if if you're scared of that one person or this
- 1:07:48happens a lot actually, and you kind of just mentioned it is
- 1:07:52this this person had a bad interaction with maybe that
- 1:07:55officer, because we deal with the same people a lot.
- 1:07:57Yeah. And you'll hear the term like we
- 1:07:59deal with 10% of the people 90% of the time.
- 1:08:02And then the 90% of the people 10% of the time, your frequent
- 1:08:04Flyers, that's probably a real thing, right?
- 1:08:07So they're like, I don't, I don't like officer, you know,
- 1:08:09Shane, I don't like him. Last time I dealt with him, he
- 1:08:11was mean to me and he did this and he did that.
- 1:08:13And I'm like, cool. Well, if it's you and I and this
- 1:08:15guy's going to surrender, I'm like, well, if Shane leaves,
- 1:08:18will you come down and surrender?
- 1:08:19Sure, Shane, can you step out? And he steps out and it goes,
- 1:08:21good. But if I go, hey, Shane, can you
- 1:08:25step out so he can take this guy?
- 1:08:26And he steps out and he's like, well, you know, I didn't do
- 1:08:28anything wrong. I don't know why yours are here.
- 1:08:31Like, explain to me what's going on.
- 1:08:33And I'm like, dude, Officer Shane's coming back.
- 1:08:36I'm gonna, I'm gonna use, we have three.
- 1:08:37We're gonna use three. I'm, I'm gonna, I'm gonna come
- 1:08:39in there too and I'm gonna have my boxing clubs, yeah.
- 1:08:42Ready to go? Yeah.
- 1:08:43Remember Me from last time? That's right.
- 1:08:45Let me tell you something, brother.
- 1:08:46Yeah. This is Round 2.
- 1:08:48Wait. Hulk Hogan died, so yeah, I
- 1:08:50know. Isn't that so bombed?
- 1:08:52So bombed. Man.
- 1:08:54It's crazy, you know? You know, it wasn't in good
- 1:08:56health, but I feel like those things that sometimes so sudden
- 1:08:59and you're just, like, not prepared for it.
- 1:09:00Yeah. Because it's such a big part of
- 1:09:01your childhood. You don't know.
- 1:09:02Him when I was like 6. Really.
- 1:09:05Damn, I had AI, had a Hulk Hogan wrestling buddy.
- 1:09:08You know, those like, Oh yeah, yeah, I had one of those.
- 1:09:11Yeah, I was there when he fought Andre the Giant.
- 1:09:14No way. Yeah.
- 1:09:14Wow. Yeah.
- 1:09:16It was cool, you know, I was young.
- 1:09:17Dude, you are old. Was that like the Coliseum?
- 1:09:20It was actually at the Madhouse on McDowell, yeah.
- 1:09:22Madhouse at McDowell the Coliseum.
- 1:09:23Yeah, that's crazy. Yeah, I'm old Muddle.
- 1:09:26You're old, man. It's all right.
- 1:09:29It's all right. I can say I met him.
- 1:09:31You can I, I. Had my yellow Hulkster shirt.
- 1:09:35Yeah, I think the. Only tore up, I think the only
- 1:09:36wrestler I met I met. Was it Kevin Nash?
- 1:09:40Yeah. OK.
- 1:09:41Big Diesel. Yeah, yeah, yeah, him.
- 1:09:43And then there's another guy at that, whatever that was.
- 1:09:48I just don't remember the convention or something like
- 1:09:50that. I don't remember who it was,
- 1:09:51though. But that was the big name that
- 1:09:52I've met as a wrestling guy. And then I stopped.
- 1:09:54I probably stopped wrestling. I don't know.
- 1:09:57I was probably like kind of like freshman, sophomore year of high
- 1:10:00school. It's kind of when I stopped
- 1:10:01watching. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:03Just don't. I used.
- 1:10:03To be big in the UFC, I've been to the bunch of those.
- 1:10:06I've met a bunch of those guys. UFC, yeah.
- 1:10:08I'm still big UFC guy, so I used to train with a lot of them
- 1:10:11prior to. So back when, like, Rich
- 1:10:13Franklin was champ and Rondrelowski was a big guy, Joe,
- 1:10:16Daddy Stevenson was up there. Yeah, you.
- 1:10:20Yeah, that's right. You did Taekwondo right?
- 1:10:22Not Taekwondo, but yeah, I fought martial arts and then I
- 1:10:25fought for two years competitively.
- 1:10:27And yeah, so I did some just like straight kickboxing
- 1:10:30matches, which were a little more up my alley.
- 1:10:32And then I did some full on MMA stuff.
- 1:10:34Luckily I never came up against like a true grappler probably
- 1:10:37would wrapped me up like a pretzel.
- 1:10:39But coaches, coaches were really good about matchups.
- 1:10:42So they would call the other gym and be like, hey, I got this guy
- 1:10:45explain what kind of like the level they're at.
- 1:10:46And they would be like, oh, I got I got a guy that'll match up
- 1:10:48with him. And then we would go and you
- 1:10:49kind of had like this like you get in the in in the ring with
- 1:10:52them or the cage or whatever venue it was.
- 1:10:55And you were kind of like, all right, you ready?
- 1:10:56Yeah, You're not, you're not going to do like you're not
- 1:10:58going to like wrestle, are you? I don't want to wrestle.
- 1:11:01It's tiring. Yeah.
- 1:11:02But so you kind of knew like you were going to be up against kind
- 1:11:05of that same style of opponent. It wasn't like it is in in the
- 1:11:09UFC where good luck, man. I mean, you might be fighting a
- 1:11:12a really good wrestler, really good jiu jitsu guy, really good
- 1:11:15striker, really good boxer. Who knows what you're going to
- 1:11:17get? I mean, if you want to climb the
- 1:11:18ranks. But right.
- 1:11:19So yeah, I did that for a couple years and luckily I was working
- 1:11:22for a guy who owned a concrete company at the time and he built
- 1:11:27AUFC Gym in the back. And Joe Riggs, if you remember
- 1:11:31Joe Riggs. Oh yeah, yeah, Joe Riggs was
- 1:11:32the, I don't say head trainer, but he was kind of head coach
- 1:11:36guy there. And so I was able to to really
- 1:11:38friend friend up Joe Riggs and stole his pants and dressed up
- 1:11:42like him for Halloween one year. There's a.
- 1:11:44Picture of it. Yeah, he lives in surprise.
- 1:11:45Yeah. How does he?
- 1:11:46Yeah, yeah, He was a pretty big name in the UFC.
- 1:11:49He was a little. Yeah, I just saw him do like
- 1:11:52he's doing bare knuckle brawling.
- 1:11:53Oh no shit. So he was a customer of mine
- 1:11:55when I was still in the car business, but he also used to be
- 1:11:58damn near our neighbor. And we, when we'd take the kids
- 1:12:00to, there's a bagel shop over in Surprise and we'd see him, you
- 1:12:04know, two or three times a month.
- 1:12:07Yeah, so I got, I got to know him pretty well.
- 1:12:08And then Edwin Dewey's was on like Ultimate Fighter, probably
- 1:12:123 or 4. I got big with him a little bit.
- 1:12:14And then I met Matt Hughes and got to wrestle around with those
- 1:12:17guys. And so some of the other guys, I
- 1:12:19think Chuck Liddell came. I was, I was out of town.
- 1:12:21I didn't get to meet him. I don't think he trained with
- 1:12:23the guys, but I got trained with a lot of cool guys.
- 1:12:25Matt Pena was their boxing coach, got trained with him.
- 1:12:26And Mario France was a was a guy.
- 1:12:28I think Matt Pena was a military camp.
- 1:12:31He was in town doing his thing. Shoni Carter.
- 1:12:34Yeah. That guy's a trip to hang out
- 1:12:36with who? Shoni Carter, Mr. International.
- 1:12:40Yeah, he was, he was big in UFC in the early 2000s and I hung
- 1:12:44out with that guy a lot. And that guy was crazy, really
- 1:12:47crazy. He's like, he's, he's a lot of
- 1:12:48fun to hang out with though, But yeah.
- 1:12:50Yeah, and then Ben Henderson's here.
- 1:12:51He's got the. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:12:53So yeah, I never hung out with Ben, never met Ben.
- 1:12:55I had a roommate that that went to the lab that worked out with
- 1:12:58him, but I never got to work out with him.
- 1:12:59I was a little out of the game. Doesn't, doesn't, doesn't.
- 1:13:02Sean Sean's brother. Sean O'Malley.
- 1:13:04Until it was. No, Yeah, that's who it was.
- 1:13:06Oh, OK. Yeah, he was.
- 1:13:08He was in the lab with him. I was his roommate at the time.
- 1:13:10Oh, OK, OK. They were doing their thing,
- 1:13:12yeah. So, but yeah, I got to train
- 1:13:13with a lot of those guys, meet a lot of them in the early 2000s
- 1:13:16and and then I went into law enforcement, so.
- 1:13:19He also knows Chuck Norris. I do.
- 1:13:21I'm one of his. What belts?
- 1:13:22Yeah. Haven't seen him in a long time.
- 1:13:24Oh, really? Yeah.
- 1:13:24Isn't that crazy? That's cool, dude.
- 1:13:26Yeah. Yeah, so I started martial arts
- 1:13:28in 9094 and then I, I got to, I got black belt in like 5 years,
- 1:13:35six years, whatever it was. And then I was pretty active in
- 1:13:38it all the way up to I'd say 2425 ish.
- 1:13:47And that's obviously I got married and had kids and things
- 1:13:50slowed down and you know, life happens.
- 1:13:52I got to, I'm working nights and it's just really tough to get in
- 1:13:55there. Still do it.
- 1:13:56I still am active. I actively work out, stay
- 1:13:59healthy. I actively box and and still hit
- 1:14:01bags and stay sharp. But as far as like scheduled
- 1:14:05ritual training, I don't. I don't really do anymore.
- 1:14:08I just kind of like go to the gym and we'll smack the bag a
- 1:14:10little bit and get ready. But I haven't had any issues.
- 1:14:14I've seen your videos, like where you're kicking, dude, you
- 1:14:16have a mean ass kick. Yeah, they're massive long ass
- 1:14:18legs too. I've put a couple people down
- 1:14:20with those. Really.
- 1:14:21Yeah, you can't work. Oh, yeah, 1 gig kick.
- 1:14:24They're like rethink their decisions.
- 1:14:26Like, wait a minute, what is that?
- 1:14:27Yeah, like my leg hurts. I can't feel it anymore.
- 1:14:29And it's like, it's probably a good thing to know because
- 1:14:32nobody thinks. About a kid, you know yeah.
- 1:14:35Their hands go up and then you you throw one good thigh kick on
- 1:14:38them and completely take off their bait.
- 1:14:40It's really hard to fight when you're.
- 1:14:41When you're with one leg, no. Legs and so you, you give them
- 1:14:44one shot and then just kind of judge what they're going to do.
- 1:14:47Yeah, I had a couple guys bang, take it and they're like, yeah,
- 1:14:49let's go. I'm like, OK, alcohol is so
- 1:14:51powerful. Alcohol and meth, dude, there's
- 1:14:55nothing that you can do to stop those guys.
- 1:14:57But yeah, it's been good. So I remember before we started
- 1:15:04all this, you kind of mentioned that, you know, departments need
- 1:15:08guys. Right.
- 1:15:09Yeah, yeah. So how big of a need is police
- 1:15:13officers these days? Huge.
- 1:15:15That's a good question too. And it's one of those jobs.
- 1:15:19It's still a good job. It's still a noble profession.
- 1:15:23I will say, you know, if I was going to give one piece of
- 1:15:26advice to to a younger generation coming in is you do
- 1:15:30have to be self motivated. The job will eat you alive.
- 1:15:33If you become, you know, salty, it will like if you're like,
- 1:15:38screw these people or screw this or screw that, you're, you're,
- 1:15:40you're going to go down a drain. But it's it's self fulfilling.
- 1:15:44So if you can get out there and you're doing what you want to do
- 1:15:47and you know, you're making impact and you know what's good
- 1:15:50for you and good for that person that you're dealing with.
- 1:15:52That's kind of where it's at. And I think that's kind of where
- 1:15:56that I think that's where the line's at is these folks coming
- 1:16:00in think that this profession is going to be something that it's
- 1:16:02not. So we lose them or they get in,
- 1:16:05they realize, oh, this is real. Like I just got in a fight and
- 1:16:08this guy tried to take my gun. Like, oh, I don't want to do
- 1:16:11that. And I respect people that
- 1:16:13realize it's not for them because I don't want that person
- 1:16:15next to me when when shit's in the fan.
- 1:16:17And I'd much rather you get the gut check early on and decide
- 1:16:21it's not for you than to fake it until you make it.
- 1:16:24And that's not really a good theory in this line of work
- 1:16:26because you're going to get yourself for where somebody else
- 1:16:28killed. And that's not just us.
- 1:16:30Like you're going to get a citizen killed because your lack
- 1:16:32of effort, your lack of understanding, your lack of
- 1:16:34training, your lack of education, your lack of ability,
- 1:16:36you're going to get somebody killed.
- 1:16:38And that's the stakes that you're playing every night you
- 1:16:39go to work. I'm not saying every single
- 1:16:41night you you're doing that, certainly.
- 1:16:44But you have to be prepared for. It but guess what you're being
- 1:16:46you're being paid for what you might have to do right, And it's
- 1:16:49at any any moment in the night, in the day, far near like it
- 1:16:54could happen at a moment's notice, like it is thou go time
- 1:16:58and it's you. And if you're not willing and
- 1:17:00able, you're going to get somebody killed, you know,
- 1:17:02possibly get somebody killed. And so when you go to work, you
- 1:17:06know, you have to have those mindsets.
- 1:17:07You have to have fun. It's such a fun job, man.
- 1:17:09I have laughed so much more than I've I've been scared or
- 1:17:13anything else. Like you look back or you're
- 1:17:14just, you're out with the boys or your team.
- 1:17:16And it's so funny that the things that we get into, you're
- 1:17:19like, dude, is that is that for real, man?
- 1:17:21Is this real life? There's that quote on TV.
- 1:17:24It's like you just got tickets to the, you know, the best show
- 1:17:26on Earth, right? Or whatever that show was.
- 1:17:28That's it's, it's honestly it is, but and then I think guys
- 1:17:32are starting to leave the profession early, you know, just
- 1:17:35because of the, the nonsense, the politics, they're the guys
- 1:17:38are just like, I don't need this man.
- 1:17:39Like I, I just don't. It's not good for mental health.
- 1:17:43It's not good for my family. I'm all stressed, like I'm not
- 1:17:46sleeping. So I'm just going to leave and
- 1:17:48they they leave. Do you know if they're if
- 1:17:51they're at least trying to get help?
- 1:17:53Or most of them are a lot, a lot of guys do they, they, you know,
- 1:17:56they go to their, they go to therapy or they go to, you know,
- 1:17:59talk to somebody and things like that.
- 1:18:02And sometimes there's, sometimes you just can't come back from
- 1:18:03whatever it is. And other times you do get the
- 1:18:05help and you're good to go. I know AI know a guy very close
- 1:18:08to me that has overcome some real hardship recently.
- 1:18:12And, you know, I'm proud of him. I, I told him I'm proud of him.
- 1:18:14He's, he's doing well now. Luckily, he's on track to retire
- 1:18:18here at the end of the year, but he's been fighting those for
- 1:18:21years. I mean, he's been fighting it a
- 1:18:23long time and nobody really knew, you know, and so he, he's
- 1:18:27getting that done. But, you know, it's, it's one of
- 1:18:31those professions where I think people are looking at it and
- 1:18:33they're like, man, I don't want to do that.
- 1:18:34Yeah, it's, it's not, I won't say heroed.
- 1:18:39You know, cops used to be looked at like, you know, high end
- 1:18:41society, noble professional, like kids, kids still look up to
- 1:18:46us, right? But there becomes a point where
- 1:18:48now their families like you don't want to do that.
- 1:18:50You'll. Be raised highly criticized.
- 1:18:52Oh, man, I mean, it's crazy, dude.
- 1:18:55It's crazy. And, and that's the other thing
- 1:18:57is you get, you get officers like myself, I, I don't, I don't
- 1:19:00get too deep into the weeds on it, but you do get them where
- 1:19:03they'll get so far into trying to change people's minds.
- 1:19:05I'm like, you're just not going to do it.
- 1:19:07Like they're not open for it. And nobody's ever criticized
- 1:19:13like a doctor, Like nobody goes on YouTube.
- 1:19:15But look what this doctor did, right?
- 1:19:17Yeah, look, look at this. Or or.
- 1:19:19Nobody's in the surgery room like, yeah, that's the wrong
- 1:19:22scalpel, motherfucker. You should not have done that.
- 1:19:24You know, it's always, it's always the cops that are, that
- 1:19:26are we're in the public eye. Yeah, it's easy.
- 1:19:29It's easy to get footage of us. You know just what I think the.
- 1:19:31Assumption is that you're always in the.
- 1:19:33You're always in the mindset to do the aggressive piece, right?
- 1:19:37Versus talking, you know, talking the situation down,
- 1:19:39right? Which going back to like what
- 1:19:41you said earlier, I think it makes me more comfortable
- 1:19:44knowing that my son is going into this, knowing that using
- 1:19:47your brain before you use your gun is is really what you want
- 1:19:51to lean. Into yeah, like 99.9% of time
- 1:19:54it's your, it's your verbal, yeah, your verbal judo that that
- 1:19:57gets me. And that's that's the other hot
- 1:19:58topic is the the. De escalation.
- 1:20:02Yeah, I'm a de escalation trainer, right?
- 1:20:04Gone through the course, done all that through through force
- 1:20:06science. And it's really hard to de
- 1:20:08escalate somebody when they don't want to be de escalated.
- 1:20:10Sure. The first part of that is that
- 1:20:12you got to have mutual input. So the problem is you show up to
- 1:20:16a call and you don't try, You'll you would have never known
- 1:20:19because you didn't try. That's a problem, right?
- 1:20:21But if you're there and you're trying and the person's not
- 1:20:24communicating, they're not listening.
- 1:20:26They're not listening to orders. They're not they're not talking.
- 1:20:30Well, what do you what's what do you expect us to do?
- 1:20:32What's your expectation? This guy's not talking to me.
- 1:20:35Well, de escalate them. You gotta make a decision.
- 1:20:37OK, well guess what, this person isn't listening, he's not
- 1:20:41talking. So I am going to de escalate it.
- 1:20:43Instead of using a lethal force, I'm going to use a less lethal
- 1:20:46force on this guy 1st and see if I can get some reaction from
- 1:20:49him. And if that works, great.
- 1:20:51But at some point in time we do have to do something.
- 1:20:53Sure. What, what, What is?
- 1:20:54What's the definition of A of lethal force?
- 1:20:59It'd be. Is that like physical force or
- 1:21:03is that it's? Anything that can cause or
- 1:21:06potentially cause the death of a person.
- 1:21:08Gotcha. So lethal force might not be a
- 1:21:11gun. You know, if you're stabbing
- 1:21:13somebody with a pen or put them in, now, if you put them in a
- 1:21:15carotid, it's lethal force, right.
- 1:21:18That got federally banned, which was crazy.
- 1:21:20Yeah. Again, politics in law
- 1:21:21enforcement. That was the whole.
- 1:21:24That was a smoking one, the dude in New York, right?
- 1:21:27That came out after George Floyd.
- 1:21:28Oh, OK. No, no neck restraints, no
- 1:21:31nothing. The federal ban on it.
- 1:21:32So we weren't allowed to do it anymore and.
- 1:21:37As as a police officer with them, taking that away from you
- 1:21:40guys is does does that make your job a little bit harder?
- 1:21:43Was, was that something that it doesn't that like 1% of
- 1:21:46situations, right? So we, I remember we had a call
- 1:21:50of a guy freaking out in an apartment.
- 1:21:52Me and my partner get there and I slugged it out with this guy.
- 1:21:55And I mean, I put the Scrooge to him.
- 1:21:57Good and he's on PCP. He just was not feeling pain
- 1:22:03right, So pain was not going to work for this guy.
- 1:22:05Clearly. Like I already laid his face
- 1:22:07open. You know, I cut him on his eye.
- 1:22:09I'd need him. I probably broke some ribs.
- 1:22:11I I don't know what happened to the guy afterwards because once
- 1:22:13we arrested him, he's gone. I've never seen him again, but
- 1:22:16I'm I'm sure he suffered some consequences for that day.
- 1:22:20So we're in this room now. This is right after the ban.
- 1:22:23This is this is like 2 weeks after, right?
- 1:22:25And so we're in this we're in this fight, this struggle with
- 1:22:29this guy. I'm like, I don't know what they
- 1:22:31want us. We're gonna just have to beat
- 1:22:32this guy unconscious. That's worse, right?
- 1:22:35And I could have ended that thing in 10 seconds taking his
- 1:22:38back, put him in a carotid, put him out, let my partner grab his
- 1:22:41arms, put him in handcuffs. At least he's restrained.
- 1:22:44He's gonna wake up and he's still gonna be doing the thing,
- 1:22:46but he's not gonna be able to physically get around.
- 1:22:49And we got some other means to to restrict people's movements.
- 1:22:52And it's in my opinion, he's facing a medical emergency too.
- 1:22:55He's overheating. His body's going to shut down
- 1:22:57here pretty quick. He's going to die if we don't do
- 1:22:59something right. Well, his, his girlfriend, wife,
- 1:23:02wherever she was significant other, she doesn't know what to
- 1:23:04do with him. She's like, I don't know what's
- 1:23:05going on. And he's freaking out.
- 1:23:07He just came home. We're like, OK, we'll deal with
- 1:23:08it. So we show up there again, not
- 1:23:10knowing what's really going on. She didn't tell us he was on
- 1:23:12PCP. She just said he's freaking out.
- 1:23:14So we go in there and it's like, hey, man, what's going on?
- 1:23:16He like looks around the corner and he's all frantic.
- 1:23:18I'm like, oh, geez, like, hey, doesn't want to communicate with
- 1:23:20us. So we start trying to get like
- 1:23:22an angle on him to see what's going on.
- 1:23:24And he's like, what are you guys doing?
- 1:23:27We're like, hey, we're we're here, what's going on and
- 1:23:28freaking out. And the fight was on like I
- 1:23:30didn't, we didn't have time to do anything.
- 1:23:31He was just running at us and fights on.
- 1:23:34And I feel like if I put him in a, in a carotid, it would have
- 1:23:37been over real quick. But now we're fighting with this
- 1:23:39guy for 2-3 minutes and we are just putting the licks to this
- 1:23:42guy. And so finally fire didn't get
- 1:23:46fire. Never got notified that we were
- 1:23:47in a fight with this guy. We never got to put it out on
- 1:23:50the radio. And it's, it's early in the
- 1:23:52morning. And so fire just comes walking
- 1:23:54in the door into the fight. Now, I don't know if you know
- 1:23:57this or not, but firefighters don't like to fight very much.
- 1:23:59They're always like, oh, God, send police.
- 1:24:03This guy told us that we're bad to police.
- 1:24:07Shots fired. Yeah, I love my firefighters,
- 1:24:10man. I love them.
- 1:24:11But I just, I got I got RASM a little bit right.
- 1:24:14Whenever we're doing I'll I'll go back to the story here and
- 1:24:16just say, but whenever. So when we go on SWAT
- 1:24:18operations, we have a medic or two and they're both
- 1:24:20firefighters. And I'm always like, hey, man,
- 1:24:23you know I love you, right, Because that's that's giving me
- 1:24:25my guy. Like if I ever take it around,
- 1:24:26he's plugging holes. So I'm always really nice to my
- 1:24:28firefighters. I love my firefighters.
- 1:24:30That's funny. And I do my best at night when
- 1:24:32someone's like, oh, I'm on, I'm on fire.
- 1:24:34My finger hurts. I always try to do my best to
- 1:24:37talk that person out of it so I don't have to wake the
- 1:24:39firefighters up at 2:00. Yeah.
- 1:24:40Yeah. Because I, I, dude, I feel bad
- 1:24:43for them because, you know, it's bullshit.
- 1:24:44Yeah. Oh, yeah.
- 1:24:45And they wait, and they're just like.
- 1:24:46Well, they kind of deal with the same thing, right?
- 1:24:48They're kind of running on the same people.
- 1:24:50Yeah, yeah. And they're, you could tell
- 1:24:51they're so tired. They're, you know, they, they
- 1:24:53probably just got back from a run or two and they're trying to
- 1:24:55catch a couple hours of sleep because they're, they're on the
- 1:24:57clock 24 hours, right. And so I try my best.
- 1:25:00So I always feel I'm like, they show up.
- 1:25:02I'm like, I'm sorry, dude. Like I tried this guy was
- 1:25:05adamant like there's nothing I can do to me.
- 1:25:06I'm sorry. And there was like, that's cool.
- 1:25:08But I I do try to look up from the fire.
- 1:25:09Guys, that was the first thing your brother said to Tyler is
- 1:25:11like, make sure that it's a real call.
- 1:25:13Don't call me out of no bullshit.
- 1:25:15Yeah. That's funny.
- 1:25:17Unless they're transporting to the hospital or rendering
- 1:25:20medical aid, the firefighters aren't like they're not doing
- 1:25:22anything. They're giving you an ice pack
- 1:25:24or whatever, telling you to be OK.
- 1:25:25Yeah, it. Could be some Tyler.
- 1:25:27It's actually. A really easy job.
- 1:25:28No, I'm just kidding. This guy's, he's got to do some
- 1:25:31work. So anyway, so the firefighters
- 1:25:33walk in. We're already in this fight, and
- 1:25:36he comes running up. This, I don't even remember who
- 1:25:38it was, but God bless him. He comes running up and he's
- 1:25:41like, now I've got one arm. My buddy's got like an arm and a
- 1:25:44leg. We're all twisted in like a
- 1:25:46pretzel. He's like, whoa, what was going
- 1:25:48on? And I'm like, just sit on this
- 1:25:50guy. Just sit on his back.
- 1:25:52He's like, OK, so he sits down and this guy's still just
- 1:25:55fighting with us, right? So he's like, you want me to
- 1:25:57choke him out? I'm like, yeah, dude, choke him
- 1:26:01out. You do it, Yeah.
- 1:26:02You do it I. Can't so the firefighter I I
- 1:26:04think he trained for it right. I I don't think this is the
- 1:26:06first time he did it because he slipped in there.
- 1:26:08Perfect. Put him right in the V Put him.
- 1:26:09Yeah, put him out. So like we got to handcuff this
- 1:26:14guy before he wakes up. You know, we're trying to catch
- 1:26:16a break. We put him in handcuffs, he
- 1:26:18wakes up everything else. So I told the firefighters
- 1:26:20looking at us, he's like, why don't we guys doing, We're like,
- 1:26:22we're not allowed to do that anymore.
- 1:26:23And just thank God he was there, man.
- 1:26:25Yeah, right place, right time, because I don't know what we
- 1:26:27were going to do. That's crazy.
- 1:26:28I. Don't know.
- 1:26:29And and they took that tool away from us and unfortunately like
- 1:26:33you got to ban it for the masses, right, right.
- 1:26:35Because you are playing the lowest common denominator at
- 1:26:37times and you don't want some new officer holding it too long
- 1:26:40or not, you know, not applying it appropriately and, and
- 1:26:44damaging something in the neck, you know, windpipe, esophagus,
- 1:26:47things like that. Like it's got to be trained.
- 1:26:49It's got to be trained frequent and often.
- 1:26:52And then it's obviously got to be used, used and sustained as
- 1:26:55a, as a, as a proper tool. So yeah, it was.
- 1:26:58It's one of those things I got taken away and it was like, man,
- 1:27:02have you politicians ever fought somebody high on meth, PCP,
- 1:27:05something like that word or fought?
- 1:27:06Anybody ever? Yeah.
- 1:27:07And they're. Like we use that.
- 1:27:08You're like use your Taser, love Taser.
- 1:27:10I've never used the Taser, but I love them.
- 1:27:12I've seen them used. I've never actually used one,
- 1:27:14but that's just opportunity or the whole.
- 1:27:16Shoot them in the leg. But use the Taser, well, the
- 1:27:19Tasers, I think it's gone up. They've improved it, you know,
- 1:27:23year after year, they're always improving it.
- 1:27:24They always have the R&D guys going going to town on that, on
- 1:27:27that tool, but. What's it's like?
- 1:27:29What's R&D? Researchers, you learn something
- 1:27:33every day. That's a true statement.
- 1:27:35They're always doing better. Like their darts come out a
- 1:27:36little harder now to penetrate clothes and things like that.
- 1:27:40But you know, guys in the East, you know, they're dealing with
- 1:27:42guys in sweaters and jackets. Those, those Taser darts aren't
- 1:27:45going to work. They got a they're a little more
- 1:27:47robust now. But I think Taser's success
- 1:27:51rate, don't quote me, don't hate me Taser, but I think it's like
- 1:27:5340% at best. It's 50.
- 1:27:55So you're telling me in a situation, you want me to take a
- 1:27:585050 shot at this? Yeah.
- 1:28:00And they're like, well, yeah, it's better than a 0%.
- 1:28:02I'm like, fists aren't 0%, right?
- 1:28:05Fists are no land. Yeah.
- 1:28:06You know dogs are are canines are like 99%.
- 1:28:12Of a dog mouth is pretty accurate, yeah.
- 1:28:13So, yeah, so you know, when you're asking me to use a tool
- 1:28:16that's not super, super effective, but in again, it's
- 1:28:20just lack of education. I kinda said at the beginning
- 1:28:23like they're just not educated and it's not their fault.
- 1:28:26I think law enforcement could do a way better job of educating
- 1:28:29the public on uses of force, policies, procedures, what's
- 1:28:32normal, what's not normal and things like that.
- 1:28:34But they're like, yeah, don't use a karate, just use a just
- 1:28:37tase them. Yeah, that's because you've seen
- 1:28:39a successful Taser deployment when it works and the person.
- 1:28:42In a controlled yeah. And the person is just standing
- 1:28:44there and you get the yeah, you get the dart separation, you get
- 1:28:46the, you know, incapacitation and and you get the lock up and
- 1:28:50it's great. But that one, I might not have
- 1:28:52the distance to do that one. It might not work.
- 1:28:54You know, you've seen guys get tased before they start doing
- 1:28:56like the alligator spin because they know it's hard for you to
- 1:28:58fucking to dart them up with, with with the when they're
- 1:29:01spinning around or whatever. Yeah.
- 1:29:03Onion right there. Well, you're, you're gonna yeah,
- 1:29:05you're gonna get a tase. So these yeah, we'll do it
- 1:29:07later. So you've got you know, you've
- 1:29:09got the Taser dart and it's connected to the to the the the
- 1:29:12lead, which is electricity being delivered by the device.
- 1:29:14Well, if you snap that line, yeah, gone.
- 1:29:17You're done. So if I if I pop you with a
- 1:29:20Taser and you fall a certain way and it rips that now it's now
- 1:29:23my. Your ability to charge, it's
- 1:29:25gone. Yeah, now they've done better.
- 1:29:27They used to just be two darts, 11 cartridge.
- 1:29:29You just ship it, put another one on, hit another, done
- 1:29:32better. Now you can get get two shots
- 1:29:33now. And some of them are I think
- 1:29:35even more than that. This isn't a play for Taser or
- 1:29:39anything like that. And just so everybody knows,
- 1:29:41this is completely, this is not staged at all.
- 1:29:45Like, no, this conversation, this is going where it's going.
- 1:29:48So you say that you know the the department can do better at
- 1:29:52training people, right, I think. How?
- 1:29:55Educating education, Yeah, or. That's, yeah, that's, that's,
- 1:29:59that's that's what I meant. How how do you think they should
- 1:30:03go about doing it? I mean.
- 1:30:05Social media is going to be #1 I mean, everybody's got social
- 1:30:08media, things like that. So they do run citizen
- 1:30:10academies. Those are really good.
- 1:30:12But those are typically still kind of a little bit vetted, I
- 1:30:14think. So as far as I know.
- 1:30:16And most of the people that go to those, like want to, I
- 1:30:20honestly, I think the only way, best way to get it done is put
- 1:30:23in school. You got to have civics class.
- 1:30:26I don't know how to be a citizen.
- 1:30:27And part of that class, you know, part of a block of that
- 1:30:30education could be how do you act around the police?
- 1:30:32Sure, because all they're listening to is their parents.
- 1:30:34But how do I know what your parents are?
- 1:30:36You know, And and I would say, you know, 90% of parents are
- 1:30:40good parents. They want their kids to do the
- 1:30:41right thing. Everybody wants a good moral
- 1:30:42compass point N they want to do the right thing.
- 1:30:45Conscious. Everybody has a conscious
- 1:30:47whether they think they do or they don't.
- 1:30:48And you know, when you lie, you get criminals lying all the
- 1:30:51time, lying, lying, lying. And all of a sudden you're like,
- 1:30:52dude, come on, man, I know. Look, you're on video right
- 1:30:54here. They're like, all right, man,
- 1:30:56Yeah, I did. And then you could see it.
- 1:30:58You could see it in their body language and their face and and
- 1:31:00the way I'm like, you feel better now, don't you?
- 1:31:02And they're like, yeah, I do. I feel better.
- 1:31:04And it's just a thing, dude. You hear about it all the time.
- 1:31:06Like, remember the what was that old show?
- 1:31:08Cops. Yeah, cops. 30 years been
- 1:31:10running. Now no plug there.
- 1:31:13Yeah, no plug at all. Like the Fugitive Show, like
- 1:31:18they're out running around trying to remember.
- 1:31:20What was? Oh, cops.
- 1:31:21Yeah, 30 years so. Anyway, there's, there's a
- 1:31:25fugitive show where they're running and every time the
- 1:31:27fugitive gets caught, they're like, oh, thank you.
- 1:31:29I thank God, like most of the time cuz they're like, dude, I
- 1:31:31was so tired of running. I'm just glad I'm caught now.
- 1:31:33What? Yeah, cuz they're, dude, they're
- 1:31:35looking over their shoulder all the time.
- 1:31:38Like they're, they're constantly thinking, they're being
- 1:31:39surveyed, there's surveillance on them.
- 1:31:42They're constantly looking over their shoulder.
- 1:31:44They constantly think their friends and family are gonna
- 1:31:46turn them in. Like there's all these things.
- 1:31:47They're just, dude, their, their life is so uptight and they have
- 1:31:50to watch every single move. And then once they get, yeah,
- 1:31:53it's got to be. And then once they get caught,
- 1:31:55they're like, OK, well, they're not glad they got caught.
- 1:31:58I don't mean in a sense like that, but I'm just saying like,
- 1:32:00they're like the stress on their body and their mental fatigue
- 1:32:02and everything that's gone. And I think that works with with
- 1:32:06the conscious. That's how I think that works.
- 1:32:08And so I think you got to put it in schools.
- 1:32:10I think you got to get the education piece out there.
- 1:32:13Like you hear the humanizing of the badge all the time.
- 1:32:16Now that's hard to do when all I do is respond to nonsense.
- 1:32:20Yeah, like I don't get to go tell.
- 1:32:21I've never heard about that. What what?
- 1:32:22What do you mean the humanizing? Of the humanize bad.
- 1:32:25It's kind of like what we're doing right now.
- 1:32:26Like you get to see me, not you talk about cop work but not be
- 1:32:30like in your face telling you to get on the ground.
- 1:32:32Right? Yeah, you know, I'm putting you
- 1:32:33in handcuffs kind of thing. Well, we're learning.
- 1:32:35Yeah, it goes back to the education piece.
- 1:32:36Like I totally have a different perspective just listening to
- 1:32:39this. Yeah, it'll change it now it's.
- 1:32:43And again, knowing that my son's gonna go through this and
- 1:32:45knowing, listening to somebody like yourself talk about how you
- 1:32:49try to avoid, Oh, yeah, it's not that you, it's not that you're
- 1:32:52afraid of the contact or whatever, but it's, it's like
- 1:32:54I'm gonna do everything I can to not have to go that direction.
- 1:32:57Yeah, I could go the rest of my career and not, never throw, not
- 1:33:00get in a fight ever again and I will be totally cool with it,
- 1:33:04right. Like I definitely don't want.
- 1:33:05To. But that's not the assumption,
- 1:33:06right the? Assumption is I'm going out.
- 1:33:08Yeah, I'm gonna go out for a fight.
- 1:33:09I'm not. No, I'm not.
- 1:33:11You know, And I'd be lying if I didn't say my first two years I
- 1:33:14was like, heck yeah. I think that's most.
- 1:33:17That's most gung ho like ready to rock.
- 1:33:19If you were a but athlete in high school and a knucklehead
- 1:33:22right the first two years on a row, like I'm looking for a
- 1:33:24fight. Yeah, you're just, you're just
- 1:33:25looking to get into the middle, like what's this all about?
- 1:33:27And then you realize you're like, this isn't it?
- 1:33:29Yeah, this is what I thought it was.
- 1:33:31I thought, like I thought this oh, this is going to be police
- 1:33:33chases and fights and gun battles.
- 1:33:35It's it's not. Yeah, it's not.
- 1:33:36It's problem solving. Yeah.
- 1:33:37It's dealing with people's problems.
- 1:33:39And like I said a few minutes ago, unfortunately, you don't
- 1:33:42get to deal with, hey, my son is a scholar athlete.
- 1:33:46He just signed with, you know, a major conference D1 basketball
- 1:33:51player. I'm like, oh, dude,
- 1:33:52congratulations. That's awesome.
- 1:33:54Like, I'm proud of you. That's you're going to go do
- 1:33:56good things. Make sure to get your degree.
- 1:33:58You're going to do this, do that.
- 1:33:59No, I get to deal with scum. Yeah, my son's being an asshole.
- 1:34:04He's drunk. He's 17 and he says he's the man
- 1:34:07of the house and I walk in and I got this 17 year old full
- 1:34:10testosterone and alcohol going fuck you, this is my fucking
- 1:34:14house. You need a search warrant.
- 1:34:16All right, bud. How do you like, how do you deal
- 1:34:19with, because about that one incident you had with the whole
- 1:34:25bar thing, like how do you, how do you deal with that, that
- 1:34:29adrenaline rise and dump and rise, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:34:34So. Over the years, so I've talked
- 1:34:35about this too. I actually went to, I don't
- 1:34:37know, I don't know who he what he was exactly, but he was, he
- 1:34:40was a doctor of some sorts for like some science.
- 1:34:44I really don't remember what who he was, but I had the
- 1:34:46opportunity to like take him to the side and I was like, hey
- 1:34:49man, what's your opinion on adrenal fatigue?
- 1:34:52Like, because I just don't get it anymore.
- 1:34:54Like gunshots. Yeah, gunshots.
- 1:34:56I'm like, what's that? Or like you could drop a flash
- 1:34:59bang in here right now and I probably wouldn't even flinch it
- 1:35:02like because I've been around it so much, right?
- 1:35:04And he's like, no, you don't have adrenal fatigue.
- 1:35:06Like when you go on a roller coaster, do you still have fun?
- 1:35:09I'm like, yeah, I do. He's like, yeah, that's because
- 1:35:10you experience these all the time, but you're not on a roller
- 1:35:13coaster every day. But if I put you on a a 900 foot
- 1:35:16drop, like you start getting amped up, I'm like, yeah, a
- 1:35:18little bit. He's like, yeah, you're fine.
- 1:35:19I was like, I didn't really think about it like that because
- 1:35:22I'm thinking about it from the lens of work.
- 1:35:24Yeah. You DeSoto.
- 1:35:25Yeah. I go to work and there's a guy
- 1:35:27with a knife. I'm just not bothered by it.
- 1:35:29I'm just going to deal with the problem like I already like I've
- 1:35:32seen that picture so many times. I've seen the guy with the gun,
- 1:35:35you know, I've, I've been shot at.
- 1:35:37I've had all those things happen.
- 1:35:38So it's just not, it's not registering my brain that that's
- 1:35:41a big deal. It's just another another call.
- 1:35:45But when I get outside of work, I still get adrenaline.
- 1:35:48I still get like butterflies or whatever.
- 1:35:50Like, I step up on the first tee at a golf tournament and I'm
- 1:35:54like, Oh yeah, this. I feel it.
- 1:35:55And I get nervous. I still get that nerves like
- 1:35:57that's real, like I'm still a. Person you got scared, huh?
- 1:35:59Wow, you're a police officer and you got scared?
- 1:36:01Wow dude, gotta. Go to the gunfight, but I'm
- 1:36:03scared of hitting that golf ball, that shit.
- 1:36:06Smoking that house on the right of the T box.
- 1:36:08Yeah, so I think, I think, I think the adrenaline, it's it's
- 1:36:14healthy, it's good. It's it's fun to chase the, you
- 1:36:16know, the high, but I don't that particular call.
- 1:36:20I don't think, I don't think my blood pressure even like really
- 1:36:23rose that much. Really not really.
- 1:36:25I mean, it may have, but I didn't feel it.
- 1:36:26I've probably got to get to a point now, you know, let's these
- 1:36:30are just numbers, but let's say that that call put me at like
- 1:36:33140 beats per minute. It might take 240 beats per
- 1:36:38minute before I even feel it again.
- 1:36:41Like, so anything between there, I'm just not going to feel like
- 1:36:43I got to get to a certain threshold of like, oh man, this
- 1:36:46is crazy. Like for my for my senses to
- 1:36:49kind of get on overload. But to get to that point you had
- 1:36:52to start at 0, right? Yeah, so there's.
- 1:36:55So how did you deal with that? You know, like I.
- 1:36:57I think it's just experience. Yeah.
- 1:36:59I'll give you another example. I've got I I mean, here's the
- 1:37:01thing about law enforcement. This is this is my favorite part
- 1:37:02of law enforcement is when I retire, I can sit on my porch or
- 1:37:06wherever and I can just start telling stories.
- 1:37:09And some of them are not believable.
- 1:37:11Some of them are like, you're bullshit.
- 1:37:12I'm like, dude, I'm dead serious.
- 1:37:13This happened or like you meet people and they're like, no way.
- 1:37:16I'm like, Oh yeah, dude. Like this is crazy, right?
- 1:37:18So for instance, So I'll back up just a little bit.
- 1:37:22So lay out some of my, I don't want to call them achievement,
- 1:37:27but some of my things. So I'm a driving instructor,
- 1:37:29firearms instructor, rifle instructor, department armor,
- 1:37:33less lethal instructor. I think the only thing I don't
- 1:37:38do is DT, which is funny, right? I fought professionally and
- 1:37:41what's what's defense tactics? Oh, they had a fight.
- 1:37:45I think they're like, I'm not sure if we want Joey to.
- 1:37:48Like, I'm not, but we're not gonna.
- 1:37:50I'm not sure that we want Joey teaching our guys.
- 1:37:52We want to restrain these people, not knock him out.
- 1:37:54Yeah, yeah. A bunch of ninjas walking
- 1:37:57around. Everybody's just kicking people
- 1:37:59in the thighs. Right.
- 1:38:00That was my nickname for years was the Night Ninja, you know,
- 1:38:04But so it's the only thing I'm not so, but I do all these
- 1:38:07instructorship, you know, I'm an active threat instructor.
- 1:38:09I've gone through for science, I've done a lot.
- 1:38:13And so I've been to a lot of calls and this happened in I'd
- 1:38:18have to look, but I want to say 17 or 18 is when this when this
- 1:38:22popped off. This is one story I can share
- 1:38:25that kind of like affected affected me emotionally.
- 1:38:28I'm usually like go to the call, do my thing and I'm I get
- 1:38:30emotionally detached. I go about my business and
- 1:38:33that's the thing, right? And this one always hits a
- 1:38:35little different. So I'm so excuse me if I do get
- 1:38:39choked up because everything, everything went well, but the
- 1:38:41thought of what could have happened is, is always there.
- 1:38:44And I do get a little emotional because it's one of my one of my
- 1:38:47boys. Right.
- 1:38:47So and before I get into the story.
- 1:38:50So it's just like anything else, like him and I were buddies in
- 1:38:54high school, but then he had like his two or three really
- 1:38:58close buddies. Like I wasn't like a close
- 1:39:00buddy. And I had two or three of my
- 1:39:02really tight buddies that I had. And you get into law
- 1:39:06enforcement, you've got your team, right?
- 1:39:08Rock stars. Even on my, even on the SWAT
- 1:39:10team, I've got my, my guys. Those are all my guys.
- 1:39:12I go on, I'll go into any door with any of them at any time,
- 1:39:16right? But there's a few guys on that
- 1:39:18team that I, that I, those are the ones that I'm going to call
- 1:39:21like, hey, dude, I got some things going on.
- 1:39:23I need to talk to somebody. Like those are my guys, right?
- 1:39:25There's only a couple of them. So love all of them, but I also
- 1:39:29know reciprocated, they might not call me, I might not be
- 1:39:32their guy. And that's OK.
- 1:39:33You gotta have your guys, right? So this is a story about one of
- 1:39:37my guys, right? So, and I'll get back to the
- 1:39:40adrenaline, this kind of circle back here.
- 1:39:42But so I'm driving down the road and I'm getting ready to stop a
- 1:39:45guy right in traffic stop for speed or whatever.
- 1:39:49And out of the corner of my eye, I see another traffic stop
- 1:39:52that's already taking place. And I'm like, I'm like, who's
- 1:39:55that like looking on the screen And I'm like, oh, what are they
- 1:39:59doing? So they're on a detail on a
- 1:40:01whole other channel doing traffic stops.
- 1:40:03I didn't even know he was there. I didn't even know it was him.
- 1:40:06I'm like, that's just speed. Let me go over here, make sure
- 1:40:09this guy's good to go, right? Prioritize.
- 1:40:11So I go back to him instead. So I pull up, I get out, I walk
- 1:40:15up. It's a normal traffic stop.
- 1:40:17And I realize it's, it's one of my, my best friends.
- 1:40:19And I'm like, what are you guys out doing?
- 1:40:21He's an hour on DUI task force. This guy might be DUI and.
- 1:40:27Just. He's being cool, you know,
- 1:40:29Everything's cool. I'm like, are you good?
- 1:40:31He's like, yeah, I'm good. You want to take off?
- 1:40:32You can take off. I'm like, all right, no, I'll
- 1:40:34hang out, you know? So I go walking up to the
- 1:40:37passenger door. And I'm very notorious for
- 1:40:41tactics. So I get in a position where a
- 1:40:44lot of people don't even know I'm there.
- 1:40:45One of my favorite things to do is listen to people.
- 1:40:47Like I go to a call. I'll listen to what people are
- 1:40:49saying for a while and then I'll knock on the door.
- 1:40:52And then at some point in the conversation, I'll throw it out
- 1:40:54there. You're like, oh, yeah, these
- 1:40:55dude, are these Crocs, Canes, Canes.
- 1:40:57Sorry, sorry, Crocs. So these shoes, right?
- 1:40:59You're talking about how comfortable they are, do things
- 1:41:01like that. You guys are talking and then
- 1:41:02all of a sudden I'll knock on the door, you know, a couple
- 1:41:04minutes. Hey, is everything cool in here?
- 1:41:05Yeah, it's cool. Dah, dah, dah, dah.
- 1:41:07Hey, man, are those canes or shoes or you're like, Oh, yeah,
- 1:41:10I'm like, dude, those look so comfortable.
- 1:41:11And you're like, they were just talking about that.
- 1:41:13And these people think I have like these super powers.
- 1:41:15I was just listening to their conversation.
- 1:41:16They're like, yeah, dude, my cousin Doug's such an asshole.
- 1:41:19And then like, I'll knock on the door.
- 1:41:20And then at some point in time I was like, dude, you have a
- 1:41:24cousin named Doug. And they're like, yeah, I'm
- 1:41:27like, dude, I I think I ran into you guys at one point in time.
- 1:41:30And dude, it blows people's minds.
- 1:41:31I do it all the time. I just mess around with people
- 1:41:33and then I'll tell them at the I'll tell them at the end like
- 1:41:35I'm just kidding, dude. I heard you talk about that, so
- 1:41:37I'm probably. Thinking like shit dude, this
- 1:41:39guy's on surveillance. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:41:40What's he doing? Like, these are bugged.
- 1:41:43And so anyway, so I roll up to the traffic stop, I get into a
- 1:41:45position where this guy's got no clue I'm there, right.
- 1:41:47And this is something I do all the time.
- 1:41:49And I'm sitting there for probably 10 seconds or so.
- 1:41:52And one of the reasons I do it is because a lot of times people
- 1:41:55will throw their dope down or they'll, they'll they'll do some
- 1:41:58weird things. And you, they, they think that
- 1:42:02he's a, he's not paying attention, but I'm watching and
- 1:42:05I see people meth pipes down or they'll throw shit out the
- 1:42:08window, whatever they're going to do.
- 1:42:09And I catch it all the time. And so I'm sitting there at this
- 1:42:12window and this dude life in law enforcement's about behaviors
- 1:42:20and, and patterns. So you'll, you'll establish
- 1:42:23baseline patterns. And when there's something not
- 1:42:26right, I, I think you mentioned earlier like Spidey sense or the
- 1:42:286th sense, it's what it is, is it's a pattern.
- 1:42:31So your brain establishes these patterns, right?
- 1:42:33So I'll do it subconsciously if if Shane goes reach in his
- 1:42:37pocket, it means nothing to you, but to me, that's a pattern of
- 1:42:40going what's he doing right? And it, it's just something
- 1:42:43that's instilled in me. Now you'll see guys walk in and
- 1:42:47as soon as I walk in, I look, I, I check the 90 and bad guys are
- 1:42:50always hiding. That's where I've been shot from
- 1:42:52in training. So I subconsciously look that
- 1:42:55direction, right? It's just what I do.
- 1:42:57And so I know what a pattern of a traffic stop looks like.
- 1:43:01And this guy is sitting in the, in the, in the driver's seat and
- 1:43:05he, he's looking at out, out the mirror and he's like looking at
- 1:43:08the next mirror. He's looking at the other
- 1:43:09mirror, He's looking at his side mirror.
- 1:43:10He's kind of like leaning around.
- 1:43:12And then finally he like looks like he gets in a spot where he
- 1:43:15can now see my buddy, right? So now he's like doing this.
- 1:43:17And also he's like, oh, it's like he hit that spot.
- 1:43:20So now he can see him. He knows where he's at and he,
- 1:43:22he's aware of his situation. So then I see this guy like in
- 1:43:26this position watching, he like pops the center console and like
- 1:43:30starts to slide his hand under. And I'm like, OK, that's
- 1:43:34different. Because if he was looking for
- 1:43:37his registration insurance, what would people do?
- 1:43:39They pop it open all the way. Oh, you want this?
- 1:43:42I don't want your expired insurance from five years ago.
- 1:43:44I don't. Here are this, that's emissions.
- 1:43:47This. That's the title to your car.
- 1:43:48You should probably take that out.
- 1:43:49Like they give you all kinds of weird shit.
- 1:43:51So that's the normal behavior. Or they turn a light on so they
- 1:43:56can see like there, there's patterns to this, right?
- 1:43:59Or so he kind of hits that center console.
- 1:44:02He's in a truck. It just kind of pops up.
- 1:44:05So then he slides his hand under there like surreptitiously, all
- 1:44:08slow. And I'm like, what the fuck is
- 1:44:09this guy doing? Like normally when they throw
- 1:44:11dope, they like, you know, they're trying to shove it in
- 1:44:15their seat or whatever. So what's this guy doing?
- 1:44:17Right? So I always have flashlight in
- 1:44:19my hand obviously, and I turn my light on.
- 1:44:22Well, this guy is now indexed the firearm.
- 1:44:24So he's he's got his hand on the, on the gun.
- 1:44:27And I described it in my report that it was like he touched a
- 1:44:30hot pot, you know, like when you don't think a pot's hiding.
- 1:44:32Oh, shit. That's kind of why I described
- 1:44:34it. So the first words out of my
- 1:44:36mouth were no, of all things, when I watched the camera back,
- 1:44:39I was like, no, and I didn't say police.
- 1:44:42I didn't say drop it. And I'm like, it was just no.
- 1:44:44And my thought process was don't fucking pull that thing, right?
- 1:44:47Right. So he's like, so now he's
- 1:44:49looking this way out the window. He's reaching back.
- 1:44:52He grabs his pistol. All of a sudden there's a bright
- 1:44:54light. And the guy that says no, he
- 1:44:55pulls his hands back, throws his hands up in the air.
- 1:44:58I'm now drawn down on them. And I'm like, dude, if you I
- 1:45:01said a few choice words, but I basically said, if you reach for
- 1:45:04that again, I'm I'm going to shoot you and I'm going to kill
- 1:45:07you. And my, my buddy, he hears me
- 1:45:10yelling and he's like, what the fuck's going on over there?
- 1:45:12I'm like, get up here reaching for a gun.
- 1:45:16He's like, oh, so we get him out of the car, we get him
- 1:45:18handcuffed. And at this moment I will tell
- 1:45:20you, I'm not proud of it. They actually use it as they use
- 1:45:23it as a training video, which I don't have an issue with.
- 1:45:26I'm not embarrassed by it, but it's real, right?
- 1:45:29And I almost feel like I I've never been around when they've
- 1:45:32trained it to the new guys. Your son will see the video if
- 1:45:35he watches the podcast, If he in his post Academy, he'll see this
- 1:45:39video, right? He'll be like, oh man, so they
- 1:45:42use this training and again, that doesn't bother me.
- 1:45:45What bothers me is my reaction because I was out of control.
- 1:45:47I won't say out of control, I was still in control, but I'm
- 1:45:50losing it. I'm motherfucking this guy
- 1:45:52upside down. I'm just in a fury right of the
- 1:45:56thought that this guy was going to pull a gun and shoot my
- 1:45:58friend, right? My friend was going to be in a
- 1:46:00gunfight. Whether he lived or died, I
- 1:46:02don't know. But the the fact that that was
- 1:46:04about that could have happened and all the things that were
- 1:46:07about to happen that didn't write butterfly effect.
- 1:46:09I didn't stop that car. He told me to leave.
- 1:46:11I stayed there. I got in a position where I
- 1:46:13could see all that came together, right?
- 1:46:15And I feel like if I would have not have done any of that, if I
- 1:46:17would have just been like, he's cool.
- 1:46:19I don't know who that is. I'm going to keep going, do my
- 1:46:20traffic stop. He'd have been in a shooting,
- 1:46:22right, right, right. Or indifferent.
- 1:46:24And so we get this guy in custody and I'm, I'm livid, like
- 1:46:30I'm pissed because this guy just didn't try to shoot at a cop.
- 1:46:33He was going to try to kill one of my best friends.
- 1:46:35And so I was emotionally attached to that.
- 1:46:37And so I was emotionally charged.
- 1:46:39I was pissed off. We got him out of the car.
- 1:46:43I didn't, we actually didn't touch him.
- 1:46:44I was like, hey, get out of the car.
- 1:46:45He gets out of the car. I'm like, get down.
- 1:46:47So he gets down, go down to your belly.
- 1:46:49We're like going down to the belly.
- 1:46:50Grab them, handcuff them. I say a couple things and I'm,
- 1:46:53if you saw the video, you'd be like, whoa, cuz I, so I could
- 1:46:56show you a video on a SWAT team search warrant where it's like
- 1:46:59super calm. Hey, you in the house come out.
- 1:47:00I'm like just super calm. Hey, I see you step on out and
- 1:47:03then you see this video and you're like, whoa.
- 1:47:05So a lot of command was like, this is our, this is our
- 1:47:09announcement. Because I do the announcements
- 1:47:10not every time, but my, my main position on the SWAT team is the
- 1:47:14second guy in the door and I have the announcements.
- 1:47:17That's part of my job is to make the search warrant
- 1:47:19announcements. It's super calm.
- 1:47:21It's super like contact people all the time.
- 1:47:23It's like, I'm talking to you right now.
- 1:47:24It might be a little elevated so you can hear me, but it's it's
- 1:47:27very calm, very direct, very calming.
- 1:47:29That brings a calming to the situation too, is you're all out
- 1:47:32of control. They're like, Jesus Christ.
- 1:47:34So there's a calming to that too.
- 1:47:35But I, I was, I was yelling at this guy, right?
- 1:47:38He's on the ground. I'm pissed.
- 1:47:40I'm yelling at him, I'm slapping handcuffs on him.
- 1:47:43I'm like, fuck you, guy, like fuck you.
- 1:47:44You're trying to kill my friend, right?
- 1:47:46And so command got a hold of this and they were like, wait a
- 1:47:49minute, like he was out of control while he's on our SWAT
- 1:47:51team, blah, blah, blah. So I, I did have a commander who
- 1:47:54knew me personally come up and he's like, are you good, man?
- 1:47:56I was like, yeah, I'm good. This was like a week or two
- 1:47:58later. So I didn't know what he's
- 1:47:59talking about because I've gone back to work now, right.
- 1:48:02He's like, yeah, man, You sure everything's cool at home?
- 1:48:05Like everything's good at work. Like you're, you're not going
- 1:48:07through anything. I'm like, Nah, dude, I'm square.
- 1:48:09I'm good. He's like, OK, yeah.
- 1:48:11I watched your video on that traffic stop and I just, you
- 1:48:13know, you were, that's not like you to do that.
- 1:48:15And I was like, yeah, I know you're talking about.
- 1:48:17Yeah, dude. Yeah, that one got me because I
- 1:48:19never experienced that before. Yeah.
- 1:48:21So that was a new experience. And that's just the raw reaction
- 1:48:24that happened. Now, I I come in that situation
- 1:48:27tonight, it's probably going to be different because I've seen
- 1:48:30it now. So like, if that that same exact
- 1:48:32situation or a very similar situation pans out like that, I
- 1:48:35would expect my reaction to be a lot different.
- 1:48:38And so when you get that raw adrenaline spike like that,
- 1:48:42that's what it takes for me to get that is something that has
- 1:48:47never happened, that could just be catastrophic.
- 1:48:52But I would imagine naturally, I mean there's there's a sense of
- 1:48:54protecting of each other. 100%. So you're, you know, it's I
- 1:48:59wouldn't think that that's abnormal.
- 1:49:02It would be no different than if you or I were out, you know, not
- 1:49:05not that I'm anything like, you know, a cop, but I would do
- 1:49:08anything to protect you guys. Right.
- 1:49:09Yeah. And, and my natural instinct
- 1:49:11would to be to flip out. Oh yeah.
- 1:49:13Not not to be like, hey, you know.
- 1:49:15Yeah, Well, that's why, that's why DV laws are so strict is
- 1:49:19because you and I can get in a fight, not a big deal.
- 1:49:21We don't know each other other than today and hopefully going
- 1:49:24forward, but we don't know each other.
- 1:49:26We can get in a fight and then go have a beer and it's not a
- 1:49:28big deal. But when I get in a fight with
- 1:49:29my wife, that's a big deal. I'm emotionally attached to it.
- 1:49:32I've been, you know, I've been with my wife for 15 years.
- 1:49:35So when we get in a fight, there's an emotional attachment
- 1:49:37to it. There's it's a lot more
- 1:49:39volatile. It's that involvement of a fight
- 1:49:42is so much more. And that's that thing is like,
- 1:49:45hey, you're you're fighting my buddy.
- 1:49:46That's my boy. Yeah.
- 1:49:47You want me to get involved in that?
- 1:49:48You're going to be much more emotional.
- 1:49:50Yeah. Versus if you just see two guys
- 1:49:51fighting at a bar, you're like 5 bucks on the guy in the black.
- 1:49:55Like it's not a big deal to you? Yeah, you know, it's this has
- 1:49:58been super educational for me. And I think go going back to
- 1:50:00what you're talking about is like getting the community
- 1:50:03educated on not necessarily what you guys do every day, but how
- 1:50:07you guys interact with the community and, and how the goal
- 1:50:10isn't to be the aggressor, it's to figure out, you know, a, a
- 1:50:15common way of coming to a, you know, a resolve that doesn't
- 1:50:20necessarily have to me. Yeah.
- 1:50:22Being aggressive and yeah, like I said, bad guy, I use that term
- 1:50:26loosely. That's just common thing that we
- 1:50:28say, oh, it's bad guy, bad guy. But every person, perpetrator,
- 1:50:31anybody in this situation always has a vote.
- 1:50:34And what your vote is is how we're going to react to it.
- 1:50:36We're always reactionary. There's only a unless you're
- 1:50:38doing active threat or hostage rescue, there's really no point
- 1:50:43in time where officers are like offensive.
- 1:50:45It's all reactionary. Now, I'm not saying that they
- 1:50:47don't go on the offensive based on what the person's doing
- 1:50:50right, but I'm talking just going into be offensive.
- 1:50:53It's there's only like 2 situations ever.
- 1:50:55Yeah. And, and the person always has a
- 1:50:57vote. Oh.
- 1:50:57I think I can speak for Shane. I'd love to have you back
- 1:51:00multiple motions and continue to learn about this.
- 1:51:02Yeah. And better understand, you know
- 1:51:04who's protecting our community and you know who really who we
- 1:51:07lean on. Sure from it would be a pleasure
- 1:51:09from from a. Citizen and who we?
- 1:51:11Did you did mention that the the department or whatever your
- 1:51:16community could do better at? Yeah.
- 1:51:18Teaching or educating the public?
- 1:51:20Maybe this could be the platform for that?
- 1:51:21This is this is always a step, yeah, a step in the right
- 1:51:24direction for sure. So I'm, I'm definitely glad to,
- 1:51:26you know, have an opportunity. You were all excited and I was
- 1:51:29like, oh, this is going to be cool.
- 1:51:30Good to meet you, but. Joey was like the pie top three
- 1:51:33person. That was like when we started
- 1:51:35this, I was like, I need to have him, yeah.
- 1:51:37Yeah, no, it's been cool and I'm.
- 1:51:38Looking forward to hearing. More I should talk to him and
- 1:51:40he's like yeah dude yes yeah, that's good I'm down I'm totally
- 1:51:43down we. Appreciate you coming on.
- 1:51:44It's been a lot of fun. I'm, I definitely, you know,
- 1:51:47have learned a ton and look forward to learning more from
- 1:51:49you so. Good.
- 1:51:50Yeah. Look forward to having you
- 1:51:51again, yeah? For sure.
- 1:51:52I'll be on again. Yeah, awesome.
- 1:51:53So thanks. For tuning in, we hope that the
- 1:51:56Chargers have a shitty seat. No, we don't.
- 1:51:58If you have any questions that you want answered in the next
- 1:52:01episode with Joey, definitely shoot us a message.
- 1:52:03Let us know what you want to know about and and we'll do our
- 1:52:05best to to answer those questions.
- 1:52:07Yeah, and I'll, I'll tell, I'll tell Shane.
- 1:52:09Like don't tell me the question. Just let me do it.
- 1:52:11Yeah, just give it to me straight and I'll, I'll try to
- 1:52:14answer it. Like I'll give it to you on the
- 1:52:15spot. I'll give it to you.
- 1:52:16I don't like the pre. I don't like pre planned
- 1:52:18answers. No, no.
- 1:52:19Well, this is randomly. This is so yeah, honestly, this
- 1:52:22is this was great. This is good.
- 1:52:23I I enjoy talking to people, especially people that don't get
- 1:52:25to talk to a lot and reaching your guys audience obviously.
- 1:52:29And hopefully we can grow that and I'd love to be a part of
- 1:52:32that. That's cool.
- 1:52:33And but this was 100% non scripted.
- 1:52:37Like I just showed up, got an address.
- 1:52:40I did tell him to wear a Black Hat.
- 1:52:42Yeah, what's up? And yeah, you know, came on and
- 1:52:46just said, hey, I'm Joey, let's do this.
- 1:52:47And, and, and we just started talking.
- 1:52:49There's no script, there's no introduction.
- 1:52:52There was just, let's just get going.
- 1:52:53And that's the way I like it. Yeah.
- 1:52:54Well, we're going to do it more. For sure.
- 1:52:56Yes, Sir. All right.
- 1:52:57Thanks for coming on. Thank you.
- 1:52:59All right, You're welcome. Bye, bye, you friends.
- 1:53:04Everyone's going to be friends. And plus, you better ride like
- 1:53:07you ride.
