- 2:46Speaker 2: to be present. Okay, there's none of this, So I
- 2:49Speaker 2: got three kids that I'll know. We actually got to
- 2:51Speaker 2: see the kid and uh, not only the backpacks, but
- 2:54Speaker 2: all kinds of other cool stuff is well, we're talking

- 3:12Speaker 2: Shuns onund to good from the City of South Charleston.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Good morning, sir, welcome to the show.
- 3:15Speaker 4: Good morning, good to be here.
- 3:17Speaker 2: It's that time again. It's sign for Summer Fest.
- 3:19Speaker 5: YEP kicks off today.
- 3:20Speaker 2: How long is you know, off the top of your head,
- 3:22Speaker 2: how long Summer Fest live?
- 3:23Speaker 5: Twenty six years?
- 3:24Speaker 2: Now twenty six years? Okay, all right, we'll get to
- 3:27Speaker 2: the music in the moment, because that's always a highlight.
- 3:28Speaker 2: But I do want to talk about some of the
- 3:30Speaker 2: other stuff.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Now.
- 3:30Speaker 2: It starts today and we're again holding Brian he is
- 3:34Speaker 2: accountable here on the weather. Four point thirty is a
- 3:36Speaker 2: start time, Dawn, I believe right.
- 3:38Speaker 5: Four to thirty the vendors kind of start, they'll start
- 3:40Speaker 5: coming to the bands will start playing six pm.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Okay, all right, we'll get to the bands in the
- 3:44Speaker 2: moment we talk about some of the food vendors you have.
- 3:46Speaker 5: Yeah, some of the food vendors will have we have
- 3:47Speaker 5: just drinks with search and lemonade. They'll also have popcorn.
- 3:51Speaker 5: His son does just popcorn. Actually he's actually he's what
- 3:55Speaker 5: that's at the farmer's market as well. Well, we all
- 3:58Speaker 5: will have some barbecue. We'll have some I believe we
- 4:03Speaker 5: have mad concessions there as well this year, and they
- 4:07Speaker 5: sort of serve like sweets and stuff and baked goods
- 4:10Speaker 5: and some other foods and stuff. But well, we got
- 4:13Speaker 5: about six or seven food vendors.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Just let's go back to the barbecue for a moment.
- 4:17Speaker 2: You had me at barbecue. So where's the barbecue from?
- 4:20Speaker 6: Do you know?
- 4:20Speaker 5: Right?
- 4:21Speaker 4: Just just getting piggy with it.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Okay, they're very good. I've had this stuff before, one
- 4:25Speaker 2: of the more popular ones here in in the area.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Getting pinky with it all right. And you've got a
- 4:29Speaker 2: kid zone and you get snow cones.
- 4:32Speaker 5: Yeah, snow cones free. It's all free. Free, snow cones, free,
- 4:35Speaker 5: face painting, free. Inflatables will have that as well.
- 4:37Speaker 2: And so this is something as the kids get ready
- 4:39Speaker 2: to head back to school, you know, next week or
- 4:41Speaker 2: the week after, it depends on where you are in there.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Cabal County actually starts today, you know, so a great opportunity.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Even how I see Summer Fest, we don't want to put,
- 4:49Speaker 2: you know, get ahead of ourselves. But anytime I see
- 4:51Speaker 2: Summerfest on the calendar, I start thinking, Okay, summers starting
- 4:54Speaker 2: to wind down just a little bit, and this is
- 4:56Speaker 2: like one of the one of the last arise of summer.
- 4:58Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I think it's it's one of those events
- 5:00Speaker 5: it's good to kind of come to and enjoy yourselves,
- 5:04Speaker 5: get ready to kind of get in the swing of
- 5:05Speaker 5: things for school and stuff.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Yeah, and so this is an event that is designed
- 5:09Speaker 2: again for the entire family. And you're right there, right
- 5:12Speaker 2: in the heart of South Charleston on near the Mound,
- 5:15Speaker 2: and that's where everything is music tonight, the Detonators at
- 5:19Speaker 2: six and Non Friction today talk about them.
- 5:21Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, So they'll start at six pm and then
- 5:24Speaker 5: Non Fix will go on at eight pm. And then Friday,
- 5:28Speaker 5: I'm sorry, Thursday, we have the Exiles and then we
- 5:31Speaker 5: have the Motortown All Stars. Friday will be the seventy
- 5:35Speaker 5: seven Experience and then straight on.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Now the send let me back up. The seventy seven
- 5:39Speaker 2: experience is kind of like music that is inspired by
- 5:42Speaker 2: the Eagles. We want to understand and straight on, of course,
- 5:44Speaker 2: that was a big hit for the group. Part. This
- 5:46Speaker 2: is a Heart tribute bank, the Heart Tribute band. Yes,
- 5:48Speaker 2: all right, continue, Yeah.
- 5:49Speaker 5: And then Saturday we get into Josh Pantry and then
- 5:53Speaker 5: we'll end it with Rick K road Trip.
- 5:56Speaker 2: And Josh Pantry. I mean, we don't need to talk
- 5:57Speaker 2: about Josh Pantry. I mean, this guy is just everywhere
- 5:59Speaker 2: around here and he's absolutely fantastic. He plays at every
- 6:02Speaker 2: big event around here. He was a Woody Fest a
- 6:05Speaker 2: couple of weeks ago. I mean, the guy just does
- 6:07Speaker 2: a little bit of everything. And Rick Ka, I mean
- 6:10Speaker 2: I've known rick for years. Of course, for you many
- 6:13Speaker 2: years was Rick K and the All Nighters, and then
- 6:15Speaker 2: he's had several different variations of the band. But I'll
- 6:18Speaker 2: just say this, if you've never seen Rick K, this
- 6:21Speaker 2: guy is a full on entertainer. The music and his
- 6:24Speaker 2: band are fantastic, but he himself is just such a
- 6:28Speaker 2: great entertainer, incredibly popular and has been doing it in
- 6:31Speaker 2: West Virginia for a long time.
- 6:33Speaker 5: Sean, Yeah, and he actually gets into the crowd too,
- 6:35Speaker 5: interact crowd as well, So he's great.
- 6:39Speaker 2: You cannot go to a Rick K show and set
- 6:43Speaker 2: in your seat. You will be up. You like party
- 6:45Speaker 2: music and like dance music, you know that sort of thing,
- 6:47Speaker 2: just good time stuff. Does a lot of oldies in there.
- 6:50Speaker 2: I mean I've heard him do everything from the fifties
- 6:52Speaker 2: and sixties all the way up to more modern stuff.
- 6:55Speaker 2: He's fantastic. I mean, nobody works a crowd. He gets
- 6:58Speaker 2: people going like Rick K does. Yep. Uh So again,
- 7:01Speaker 2: everything we'll get underway later today. I do want to
- 7:03Speaker 2: talk about a couple of other things in South Charleston
- 7:05Speaker 2: before we get back to a summer fest. You you
- 7:08Speaker 2: were on with me a couple of weeks ago. You
- 7:09Speaker 2: had the Almost Having Pickle Festival. How did that go?
- 7:12Speaker 5: That went very well, we have. That's been the largest
- 7:16Speaker 5: crowd we've had so far. At the market Saturday, we
- 7:19Speaker 5: asked that we estimated around thirty five hundred people came.
- 7:23Speaker 5: It was it was just it was just a very
- 7:25Speaker 5: good turnout. Everyone had fun. You know, everyone really came out.
- 7:30Speaker 5: I mean it's it's it's just incredible to see how
- 7:32Speaker 5: many people came out, and you know, it was it was.
- 7:35Speaker 5: It was all about pickles.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean how many pickles vendors did you have having?
- 7:38Speaker 5: Oh we ended up having twenty that had pickle themed.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Yeah items, Yeah, and it was really I know, our
- 7:44Speaker 2: sister station ninety eight seven Mountain Steve Animal was there,
- 7:47Speaker 2: stuff in his stuff in it. I was gonna say
- 7:49Speaker 2: his pie hole stuff and his pickle holes, you know,
- 7:51Speaker 2: with uh with with all the pickles. But it was
- 7:53Speaker 2: a great time. He had a lot of great entertainment
- 7:55Speaker 2: there as well. And there's always something going on in
- 7:56Speaker 2: South Charleston. Once you get through Summerfest, then what's next
- 8:00Speaker 2: on the Farmer's Market is continuing.
- 8:02Speaker 5: Yeah, So the next thing we'll have as far as
- 8:04Speaker 5: city events will be the man Arch and christ Festival
- 8:08Speaker 5: downtown on September fifth.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Okay, we'll have you on again to talk about that.
- 8:13Speaker 2: But let's get back to Summer Fest. And when how
- 8:15Speaker 2: long does the farmers Market I mean, do you guess
- 8:18Speaker 2: close down or do you keep going?
- 8:19Speaker 5: We're year round, so we're after Christmas Market, we just
- 8:24Speaker 5: go to Saturdays only for January February marks but every
- 8:28Speaker 5: starting April Okay.
- 8:30Speaker 2: For the rest of the fall, it's just your regular time, right, yeah,
- 8:32Speaker 2: all right, okay, and we'll make sure people get out
- 8:34Speaker 2: there because you guys always got stuff going on out there.
- 8:37Speaker 2: All right, let's get back to summer Fest again. Your
- 8:40Speaker 2: food trucks, Sean are gonna start arriving setting up about
- 8:43Speaker 2: four thirty years. So today you got some delicious food
- 8:45Speaker 2: out there. You got the kids Zone going on, and
- 8:47Speaker 2: the kid Zone going on all all four days, days,
- 8:50Speaker 2: all four days, and go over to the music again
- 8:52Speaker 2: with it.
- 8:52Speaker 5: Yeah, So tonight we'll kick it off with the Detonators,
- 8:55Speaker 5: and then Non Friction Thursday, the Exiles, and then the
- 8:58Speaker 5: Motortown All Stars, Friday, the seventy seven Experience and then
- 9:01Speaker 5: straight on and then Saturday Josh Pantry and Rick k
- 9:05Speaker 5: And we also have our drone light show Friday night.
- 9:08Speaker 2: I forgot about that.
- 9:08Speaker 5: Yeah, talk are works Saturday night and then the car
- 9:11Speaker 5: show Saturday morning eight am.
- 9:12Speaker 2: All right, So talk about this drone show. You and
- 9:14Speaker 2: I were talking about it with Ron off the air
- 9:16Speaker 2: to talk about this drone show.
- 9:17Speaker 5: Yes, I believe this is our third year doing the
- 9:21Speaker 5: Drone Show, and you know, it's just one of those things.
- 9:24Speaker 5: It's kind of like fireworks, but it's a light show.
- 9:26Speaker 5: In a sense, and you know, we always get a
- 9:29Speaker 5: great turnout. It was definitely a great addition to Summerfest.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Yeah. And in the car show, where do people saying
- 9:35Speaker 2: you' need to sign up for that ahead of time
- 9:37Speaker 2: or just show up?
- 9:37Speaker 4: You can register?
- 9:38Speaker 5: Yes, Okay, register go to CVB website.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Ok, CVB website, but you do need to do that
- 9:43Speaker 2: ahead of time.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Yes.
- 9:44Speaker 2: And you got how many cars you generally have in
- 9:46Speaker 2: this car.
- 9:47Speaker 5: I believe last year they had around two hundred, and
- 9:50Speaker 5: they expect more this year because there's not as many
- 9:53Speaker 5: events going on around this time, so they do expect
- 9:56Speaker 5: that number to increase.
- 9:57Speaker 2: And you'll be on Saturday, which they you know, they
- 10:00Speaker 2: tell us that the weather should be good by the
- 10:01Speaker 2: time Saturday rolls. Run it's it'd be a great time
- 10:03Speaker 2: to come out. Give us a little thirty second if
- 10:06Speaker 2: you will. Commercial for why families enjoy this event so much,
- 10:09Speaker 2: why it's so popular.
- 10:10Speaker 5: Yeah, So it's a it's a it's a four day free,
- 10:13Speaker 5: family fun event with with lots of entertainment and you know,
- 10:19Speaker 5: there's something for everyone, whether you're a kid or an adult,
- 10:22Speaker 5: there's there's something for everyone to enjoy there. And most importantly,
- 10:27Speaker 5: it's free. Yeah, so you know, we want to encourage
- 10:30Speaker 5: folks to come out have a great time because that's
- 10:32Speaker 5: what's about. You know, events like this is about quality

- 15:09Speaker 2: you to say that again.
- 15:10Speaker 9: I really I've noticed something since he started working here
- 15:13Speaker 9: that the weather's just turned awful. I mean, I don't
- 15:16Speaker 9: understand if it's just because he started here, but we've
- 15:19Speaker 9: had just terrible weather since he started.
- 15:21Speaker 2: That's true. I mean he actually started working for us
- 15:24Speaker 2: on a day of a snowstorm here, and then the
- 15:27Speaker 2: last couple of I mean it's rained since, like I
- 15:30Speaker 2: don't know, April, like like NonStop, and yesterday was that
- 15:34Speaker 2: way as well. But he says that today is going
- 15:38Speaker 2: to be a little bit more calm, although we just
- 15:39Speaker 2: had a shower roll through the Charleston Aary here about
- 15:41Speaker 2: an hour or so ago, that there's still a chance
- 15:44Speaker 2: of a pop up shower storm or two, but it's
- 15:46Speaker 2: not going to be like it was yesterday. The outside now,
- 15:49Speaker 2: hopefully it turns. It was wild out there yesterday. I
- 15:52Speaker 2: mean I was one of the ones that's lucky enough
- 15:54Speaker 2: to be able to spend pretty much all day in
- 15:56Speaker 2: the building, but it was raining so hard that you
- 15:57Speaker 2: could actually hear it inside the building. We lost our
- 16:00Speaker 2: briefly at one point, and just some wild and I
- 16:04Speaker 2: know your phone was probably ringing because as a city
- 16:06Speaker 2: councilor because around Charleston, you know, it's not river issues
- 16:10Speaker 2: per se as much as it is just drainage issues.
- 16:12Speaker 2: And we saw a lot of that yesterday.
- 16:14Speaker 9: Yeah, My ward's mostly hillside from Lower Downey all the
- 16:17Speaker 9: way to South Ruffner and that water comes off that
- 16:19Speaker 9: hill those hills and our carverts get overrun and the
- 16:24Speaker 9: city was helpful and cleaning out some culverts and getting
- 16:27Speaker 9: those to the water to get through. So it was
- 16:30Speaker 9: a busy day for our city workers. You cover as
- 16:33Speaker 9: you mentioned, the Kanaf City area, and this is being discussed.
- 16:36Speaker 9: It's a proposed ordinance that would create a voluntary trespass
- 16:42Speaker 9: enforcement type of deal. What is this and why do
- 16:46Speaker 9: people feel it's needed. It was a program that was
- 16:50Speaker 9: brought to me by one of our CPD officers from
- 16:53Speaker 9: Ocean City, Maryland, and it's called Team Trespass Enforcement Authorization
- 16:59Speaker 9: Program and allows property owners to their own if they
- 17:04Speaker 9: want to participate, to sign a notarize affidavit to allow
- 17:08Speaker 9: our CPD officers to enforce fully trespassing ordinance on their
- 17:15Speaker 9: properties if they're there and when they're if they're not there.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Okay, I guess the question would be is why And
- 17:20Speaker 2: I'm not trying to be as smart Alley, but I
- 17:22Speaker 2: want you to explain it to me. Why is this
- 17:23Speaker 2: not already being done? I mean, if they're if they're
- 17:25Speaker 2: breaking the if they're breaking the law of trespassing, it
- 17:27Speaker 2: actually is it's uh.
- 17:29Speaker 9: You know, this year, yesterday I pulled, I was given
- 17:32Speaker 9: the hybrid units for Kanas City only, and in twenty
- 17:37Speaker 9: twenty six, our trespassing numbers just at the end of
- 17:41Speaker 9: July have already exceeded all of twenty twenty five in
- 17:45Speaker 9: Kanas City.
- 17:46Speaker 2: That's great.
- 17:47Speaker 9: I mean it's it's working trespassing and our officers do
- 17:50Speaker 9: a wonderful job of enforcing our ordinances.
- 17:55Speaker 2: My goal is to give them more tools to uh
- 17:59Speaker 2: to take care of.
- 18:00Speaker 9: These individuals that are walking the streets, UH, loitering, solicited
- 18:05Speaker 9: soliciting UH donations, staying and living under trees and Kanas City.
- 18:11Speaker 9: And it's not about just Kanos City. This is we
- 18:14Speaker 9: have downtown, we have west side. UH that's the three
- 18:17Speaker 9: areas we see it. I mean, we see individuals that
- 18:19Speaker 9: shouldn't be there. At our last committee meeting that our
- 18:24Speaker 9: chief of police said this would help us at nights
- 18:27Speaker 9: and that's what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to
- 18:29Speaker 9: give our officers more tools to enforce our ordinances to
- 18:33Speaker 9: make us safer Charleston.
- 18:35Speaker 2: So what are they doing? What give us everybody knows
- 18:38Speaker 2: what the definition of trespassing is, but give us a
- 18:40Speaker 2: couple of examples of where you've had problems.
- 18:42Speaker 9: For example, the the private lot at Loews RBS. We
- 18:48Speaker 9: have individuals sleeping, staying, camping, sitting in grass areas in
- 18:57Speaker 9: the parking lots all hours of the night, walking in
- 19:01Speaker 9: neighborhoods ending up in locations where they are trustpassing on
- 19:05Speaker 9: private property.
- 19:06Speaker 2: And then again, we want to make sure people realize
- 19:08Speaker 2: this is a private property issue. This is not about
- 19:10Speaker 2: someone being out on the street or whatever. This is.
- 19:13Speaker 2: This is what you're focusing on with this proposed ordinance,
- 19:16Speaker 2: Chad is on private property. Private property.
- 19:19Speaker 9: And you know, the discussion we've had in council for
- 19:22Speaker 9: this was introduced in June. First, we've had two committee
- 19:26Speaker 9: meanings so far. Hopefully Councilman Sean Taylor, it's currently in
- 19:32Speaker 9: Public Safety Committee, his committee. We'll take it up again
- 19:35Speaker 9: on Monday night and I'll follow suit with orbits and
- 19:38Speaker 9: rules and pass it out Monday night with some changes to.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Only include businesses.
- 19:44Speaker 9: We're not talking about private property of the landlord's property
- 19:48Speaker 9: and they don't have to participate, So we're looking at
- 19:51Speaker 9: businesses only right now, that language could change, but yeah,
- 19:56Speaker 9: private property where business owners want to participate in this program.
- 20:00Speaker 2: What do you hear from the businesses when you when
- 20:02Speaker 2: you talk to them, because obviously they have come to
- 20:05Speaker 2: you and other council members. What do you hear from
- 20:06Speaker 2: the business and they want these people removed?
- 20:09Speaker 9: They want them they want to offer their services and
- 20:12Speaker 9: business opportunities at their locations without individuals sleeping in the doorways,
- 20:20Speaker 9: sleeping in in in the trash dumpster areas, things of
- 20:25Speaker 9: that sort. And this is just another tool that we
- 20:28Speaker 9: can promote and push that allows our officers to do
- 20:32Speaker 9: their job at the fullest extent.
- 20:34Speaker 6: I mean.
- 20:35Speaker 2: And as a business owner, this can be you know,
- 20:37Speaker 2: obviously very problematic because there is a safety issue. Uh
- 20:41Speaker 2: there is, you know, if I mean, we've certainly heard
- 20:44Speaker 2: cases like this before. If somebody's press passing even though
- 20:46Speaker 2: you have no trespassing signs or whatever, they fall, they
- 20:49Speaker 2: get hurt, you get a lawsuit on your hands.
- 20:52Speaker 9: Well, I mean another example you ask for example, So,
- 20:54Speaker 9: I mean, we have a brand new Sheets in Kanas
- 20:56Speaker 9: City that's attracting multiple cars off the inners, a business
- 21:01Speaker 9: from a you know coming to Sheets to use their
- 21:03Speaker 9: card or you get their cheap gas. We have individuals
- 21:06Speaker 9: sleeping around the building that they can't get rid of,
- 21:10Speaker 9: and our officers do a good job of moving those
- 21:12Speaker 9: individuals along, but they need more tools to take care
- 21:16Speaker 9: of these individuals.
- 21:16Speaker 2: So you would have I mean, because sometimes I know
- 21:19Speaker 2: understand the way things work on the corporate level. Sometimes
- 21:21Speaker 2: it's a little bit more difficult than it is dealing with,
- 21:24Speaker 2: you know, a locally owned business. So I don't want
- 21:27Speaker 2: to put them on the spot here. But but Sheets
- 21:29Speaker 2: is on board. You mentioned some other businesses on the
- 21:31Speaker 2: corporate level that are on board. Yeah.
- 21:33Speaker 9: Just last week I met the loss prevention manager from
- 21:38Speaker 9: Pennsylvania at Sheets in Kanall City and she said, that's
- 21:41Speaker 9: a it's a great idea that she's going to run.
- 21:44Speaker 9: Like you said, corporate got to run it up the
- 21:45Speaker 9: running up to the ladder and get it to approve.
- 21:48Speaker 9: But they'll they'll participate. I've already given it to her.
- 21:52Speaker 9: Contact to our Charleston Police department officers that I'm familiar with,
- 21:57Speaker 9: and their their in coordination to work to get to
- 22:00Speaker 9: help their location.
- 22:03Speaker 2: And getting back to some of the issues that it causes.
- 22:06Speaker 2: And again we're talking with Charleston City Council and Chad Robinson.
- 22:09Speaker 2: I mean there's a safety issue too. I mean there's
- 22:11Speaker 2: people that pull up and they may not necessarily want
- 22:13Speaker 2: to visit those businesses if you have these if you
- 22:17Speaker 2: have and again we're not I know when you talk
- 22:20Speaker 2: about things like this, Chad, and I'm sure you've heard it,
- 22:23Speaker 2: it it can sound like, well, you're just picking on
- 22:26Speaker 2: people or whatever, but we're not. Trespassing is against the law.
- 22:30Speaker 2: What we're talking about here is breaking the law. This
- 22:33Speaker 2: is not about somebody walking up the street you know
- 22:36Speaker 2: that may be homeless. This is not what this is about.
- 22:38Speaker 2: This is being on private property.
- 22:42Speaker 9: This, you know, I'm all for our Charleston Cares team
- 22:44Speaker 9: does a wonderful job of helping those individuals who need
- 22:48Speaker 9: help and get want help or want help, that's the key,
- 22:51Speaker 9: or want that. Most of them they don't want help,
- 22:53Speaker 9: but our care Tea does a wonderful job. They offer
- 22:56Speaker 9: support for those individuals who want to be off the streets.
- 22:59Speaker 9: We're talking about the vagrants. We're talking about the ones
- 23:02Speaker 9: that that'll want to steal, that want to take from
- 23:06Speaker 9: our businesses, want to stay at nights where they're not
- 23:10Speaker 9: supposed to be. That's what we need to do to
- 23:12Speaker 9: help clean up Charleston. You said this is based on
- 23:16Speaker 9: a program out of Ocean City, Maryland.
- 23:18Speaker 4: Is that right?
- 23:19Speaker 2: That's where the officer got it from Ocean City, Maryland? Okay,
- 23:21Speaker 2: So I mean I'm assuming that they have had contact
- 23:23Speaker 2: with the city to see what they did right, what
- 23:25Speaker 2: they did wrong, and things of that nature.
- 23:27Speaker 9: Yeah, this will allow, you know, a sign to be
- 23:30Speaker 9: created to post on your property saying that as they
- 23:32Speaker 9: do in Ocean City. This would would show that your
- 23:36Speaker 9: business is involved in this program and once the police support.
- 23:40Speaker 9: I've already had a business owner. Canos City tell me
- 23:43Speaker 9: yesterday that they're one hundred percent on board. They'll post
- 23:46Speaker 9: the signs tomorrow if they can.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Talk again with Charleton City Council. Chad Robinson a Dave
- 23:51Speaker 2: Island Show one five eighty line is broad two departed

- 24:05Speaker 2: you understand your environment because what you don't know can
- 24:08Speaker 2: hurt you. Let's talk about the movement within city council
- 24:13Speaker 2: and Charleston. You said, you know, because Charleston has such
- 24:15Speaker 2: a large city council, you've got different committees and things
- 24:17Speaker 2: of that nature. I know you mentioned Sean Taylor by
- 24:20Speaker 2: by name. Do you anticipate that you're going to have
- 24:23Speaker 2: support from other council members? You anticipate they'll be pushed
- 24:26Speaker 2: back from some what do you think there have been?
- 24:27Speaker 9: There has been pushback, and it's it's quite amazing to
- 24:33Speaker 9: me that we have individuals on council who do not
- 24:37Speaker 9: support providing our Charleston.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Police officers with more tools to do their job. And
- 24:44Speaker 2: I don't want to get into.
- 24:47Speaker 9: Hills versus flats versus you know, my award versus somebody
- 24:52Speaker 9: up on Yeah, but this is really an issue for
- 24:57Speaker 9: those of us who represent the flats of Charles and
- 25:01Speaker 9: those those those who represent the hills oak uh, you know,
- 25:05Speaker 9: up off Greenbrough Street, things of that sort. They they
- 25:08Speaker 9: don't see these individuals camping in private business lots or
- 25:12Speaker 9: standing in front of businesses all day all night to
- 25:17Speaker 9: try to do harm.
- 25:17Speaker 2: They don't see it.
- 25:19Speaker 9: We see it every single day going to and from
- 25:22Speaker 9: our our homes in Kanas City, going to the grocery store,
- 25:27Speaker 9: going to Loew's, going to cracker Barrel. They're in the
- 25:30Speaker 9: they're in the bushes, sleeping and staying and uh waiting
- 25:34Speaker 9: till people leave to do things that they don't see
- 25:37Speaker 9: these things in the hills. And that's what I you know, yes,
- 25:41Speaker 9: it upsets people that, uh I do things like this,
- 25:44Speaker 9: introduce ordinances like this, or you know, I've introduced a
- 25:47Speaker 9: pain healing ordinance twice. Some people don't like those things.
- 25:52Speaker 9: But that's what my constituents see and want changed in Charleston.
- 25:58Speaker 2: And that I I'd forgotten about that. You've introduced that
- 26:01Speaker 2: twice at Panhandlin ordinance. What't happened the last time this year?
- 26:05Speaker 9: Currently, I believe it's still sitting in Judge Tom Cleees
- 26:10Speaker 9: Court the decision. I think there's a lawsuit for the
- 26:14Speaker 9: Montingalia Morgantown ordinance. The last one I introduce is identicals
- 26:18Speaker 9: that that ordinance so he's kind of waiting to see
- 26:21Speaker 9: what happens with that, waiting to see.
- 26:23Speaker 2: What happens there. And again I think that I understand
- 26:27Speaker 2: where people can say, well, you are just you know
- 26:31Speaker 2: that this is hateful toward homeless people or whatever. But again,
- 26:36Speaker 2: this is private property we're talking about. This is no
- 26:38Speaker 2: different than somebody. I mean, would would it be different
- 26:41Speaker 2: You're talking about sheets or lows or cracker barrel or
- 26:43Speaker 2: someplace like that. This is no different than if it
- 26:46Speaker 2: was on making up an address here one twenty three
- 26:49Speaker 2: Main Street and here in somebody's garage. That's it's the
- 26:51Speaker 2: exact same thing, exact exact same thing.
- 26:55Speaker 9: We're giving them more tools to do their job for
- 26:57Speaker 9: as police officers for Kanas City, west side, downtown, anywhere
- 27:01Speaker 9: in Charleston.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Knock out a couple of texts here. One says, this
- 27:04Speaker 2: is what happens after years and years of accommodating and
- 27:06Speaker 2: catering to vagrants, the entitlement syndrome of no consequences. It's
- 27:10Speaker 2: not the officer's fault either. This is legislative and judicial.
- 27:14Speaker 2: That's part of it.
- 27:15Speaker 9: I mean, it does our officers do everything they can
- 27:18Speaker 9: in their power that for these vagrants that walk in
- 27:23Speaker 9: Kanaus City or throughout Charleston. And again I want to
- 27:27Speaker 9: stress I've never ever voted against funding or issues for
- 27:31Speaker 9: our Cares team, for our home list to provide them support.
- 27:36Speaker 9: These are individuals that don't want support. They're walking around stealing, breaking, entering, trespassing,
- 27:45Speaker 9: and we have to give our officers more support to
- 27:48Speaker 9: provide what they can for our residence of Charleston.
- 27:52Speaker 2: So now tell us where it goes from here. He
- 27:55Speaker 2: said it's gona be brought up again. I guess the
- 27:57Speaker 2: committee process, whatever's.
- 27:58Speaker 9: That could currently public Safety committee. I'm not sure when
- 28:03Speaker 9: they will meet next, hopefully Monday night. I've already asked
- 28:06Speaker 9: for a meeting following their meeting. If they take up
- 28:09Speaker 9: this ordinance and proposed ordinance, and I hope to get
- 28:15Speaker 9: a past Monday night, we'll see. There's some changes going
- 28:18Speaker 9: to be made. There is some opposition to the to
- 28:22Speaker 9: this proposal, but I don't.
- 28:23Speaker 2: Understand, and maybe again I'm gonna editorialize herey on, I
- 28:26Speaker 2: don't understand, and I will afford an opportunity on this
- 28:30Speaker 2: show for anybody who wants to come on and change
- 28:32Speaker 2: my mind. Otherwise I don't understand how you could not
- 28:37Speaker 2: be in support of something that is protecting private property.
- 28:40Speaker 2: This is not walking down VIRGINU Street in front of
- 28:43Speaker 2: our station here. This is private property. We're talking. That's correct.
- 28:46Speaker 9: And the business owner or the property owner does not
- 28:51Speaker 9: have to participate. If they do, they do not want to.
- 28:54Speaker 9: This is just an option for a business owner to
- 28:57Speaker 9: post their property so the officers know that they're they're
- 29:01Speaker 9: participating in this team program.
- 29:04Speaker 2: What else is going on in Kanas City these days? Hey,
- 29:06Speaker 2: we haven't mentioned traffic one time, have we Hey, don't
- 29:08Speaker 2: don't mess it. Come back.
- 29:10Speaker 9: Uh, we're doing well in kanos See Trust and Urban
- 29:12Speaker 9: Works Kansas City were we're meeting monthly. Uh, we're gonna
- 29:17Speaker 9: hopefully come up with an event here in a spring,
- 29:19Speaker 9: a big event for Kanas City. And it's it's it's
- 29:22Speaker 9: doing well. We got new businesses coming and hopefully we
- 29:26Speaker 9: see some more come our way. All right, well, we'll
- 29:28Speaker 9: have you on when we get those new businesses.
- 29:30Speaker 2: And again I do want to say that, Uh, I
- 29:33Speaker 2: you know, I don't live in the City of Charleston,
- 29:34Speaker 2: don't live in Kansas City, but if I did, I'd
- 29:36Speaker 2: be one hundred percent in support of this, especially if
- 29:38Speaker 2: I owned a business that means a lot day.
- 29:40Speaker 9: This is you know state, you know with Dave Allen Show.
- 29:44Speaker 9: It's great to have your support. I appreciate you.
- 29:46Speaker 2: I'm nobody, I live in Putnam County, but I'm just
- 29:48Speaker 2: saying though I would be as a business owner, I
- 29:50Speaker 2: would one hundred percent being supported. That's why would you
- 29:53Speaker 2: Why would you not be? I mean, I just don't think.
- 29:55Speaker 2: I don't I don't understand the opposition. But if somebody
- 29:58Speaker 2: wants to come on argue the other side, I'm equal
- 30:00Speaker 2: opportunity here. That's right to do it. Always do Chad Robinson,

- 33:41Speaker 2: Tex says you can tell it's an election year. The
- 33:43Speaker 2: city is actually thinking about doing something about criminals, says
- 33:46Speaker 2: the Texter. TEX says, this is the equivalent of our
- 33:49Speaker 2: federal border control laws. You cross illegally on the US soil,
- 33:53Speaker 2: you go to jail. It's that simple, and in parentheses,
- 33:57Speaker 2: they said at least some of US citizens still support
- 33:59Speaker 2: the law. Tex death is apparently so bad in the
- 34:02Speaker 2: South Hills area that the Ashton Place Kroger now has
- 34:04Speaker 2: anti theft barriers on the exit with there a couple
- 34:07Speaker 2: of days ago when if I accidentally went to the
- 34:09Speaker 2: West Side Kroger for the nineteenth year our sister station
- 34:13Speaker 2: one of seven three to beat doing the backpack attack
- 34:15Speaker 2: sponsored by Selango law. Here to talk about it is
- 34:18Speaker 2: Logan Scott. How you doing man, I'm doing well.
- 34:20Speaker 4: How are you?
- 34:21Speaker 2: I am doing fine. I like the new purple t shirt.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Yeah, the Beat.
- 34:24Speaker 14: We'n't got a new logo a little a couple of
- 34:26Speaker 14: months ago. Yeah, I got everything's purple. I don't have
- 34:28Speaker 14: a purple shirt yet. I got to get one of
- 34:30Speaker 14: those gottak what all right? Nineteen years It seems like
- 34:34Speaker 14: it's very hard to believe. Neither one of us were here.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Now when it started, this was kind of Woody Wood's baby,
- 34:40Speaker 2: along with Lesha Lee and some mothers, and now it's
- 34:42Speaker 2: grown to a huge event.
- 34:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:44Speaker 14: So it all takes place this afternoon out here in
- 34:46Speaker 14: our parking lot. We like to do things out here
- 34:47Speaker 14: in our parking lot, and I mean it's convenient. So
- 34:50Speaker 14: we're at eleven eleven Virginia Street East, the nineteenth Annual
- 34:53Speaker 14: Beat Backpack Attack. Now there are three hundred book bags,
- 34:56Speaker 14: stuff with kids school supplies. There are headphones, water bottles,
- 35:02Speaker 14: also backpack tags, So three hundred book bags today. Lineup
- 35:06Speaker 14: begins at three thirty here at our studios eleven eleven
- 35:09Speaker 14: Virginia Street East, and giveaways begin at four thirty. And
- 35:12Speaker 14: there's we've got some activities outside as well to as
- 35:16Speaker 14: you're in line waiting.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Yeah, And the way it works is if you never
- 35:20Speaker 2: brought your kids down for this is we actually line
- 35:22Speaker 2: them up on the street from the radio station. Line
- 35:24Speaker 2: goes well beyond Charleston Catholic High School, always way down
- 35:27Speaker 2: the street there, and we normally let about four or
- 35:29Speaker 2: five in at the time. We don't break up families
- 35:32Speaker 2: or anything like that. But that's my job. I'm not
- 35:36Speaker 2: breaking up families. I'm sorry. The traffic control part of it,
- 35:39Speaker 2: that's what I actually puts me out there, and she says,
- 35:41Speaker 2: all right to you know, I'm like the back of
- 35:43Speaker 2: the line, back in line.
- 35:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 35:44Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's very orderly the way it is. We'll say, okay,
- 35:49Speaker 2: you four or five together, Okay you, mom, dad, grandparents,
- 35:51Speaker 2: you and the kids come in and we take you
- 35:55Speaker 2: right to left, I guess against the building all the
- 35:58Speaker 2: way around, and we have stations set up so it's
- 36:01Speaker 2: not just when the kids get to pick their own
- 36:03Speaker 2: backpack because well, I mean we say wild supplies last,
- 36:06Speaker 2: because we have different colors and different designs. Kids can
- 36:08Speaker 2: pick out which backpack they want, but then they're going
- 36:11Speaker 2: to go to the other vendors and there are all
- 36:13Speaker 2: sorts of them here that have got things that they're
- 36:15Speaker 2: giving away as well. There's information available for the parents
- 36:19Speaker 2: and grandparents.
- 36:19Speaker 14: Yeah, and we're actually going to be utilizing our church
- 36:21Speaker 14: parking lot as well. There's going to be vendors there
- 36:23Speaker 14: as well. And there may or may not be some
- 36:27Speaker 14: sweet treats here later this afternoon, okay as well tell
- 36:31Speaker 14: me more. Well there may be ice cream. Okay, so yeah,
- 36:34Speaker 14: ice cream, something for the kids. And yeah, I know,
- 36:37Speaker 14: not for you, not for you, but I mean school
- 36:39Speaker 14: starts next week next Wednesday in Kanawak County, so you know,
- 36:44Speaker 14: we always see this, you know, about a week before
- 36:45Speaker 14: school starts, just to you know, it's it's just a
- 36:49Speaker 14: great event. And we have so many sponsors too. We
- 36:51Speaker 14: have Selango Law, WV Health Right, Charleston Police Department, Mountain
- 36:54Speaker 14: Care Network, the Charleston Dirty Birds, i'mart Express, also the
- 36:59Speaker 14: Stike team at Wealth Enhancement, U GREEB Dental Group, JB
- 37:03Speaker 14: Acres ten and ten Above Roofing, and so many others.
- 37:06Speaker 2: Yeah, so and every and just about I will say
- 37:09Speaker 2: all but I mean a great number of those people
- 37:10Speaker 2: that you just mentioned, we'll have a presence out there
- 37:14Speaker 2: because we invite them all, you know, as best we
- 37:17Speaker 2: can to come in and and so it's not just
- 37:19Speaker 2: the backpacks. We want to make sure that people understand
- 37:21Speaker 2: that they can get all kinds of other stuff with
- 37:23Speaker 2: the other vendors as well. Yeah.
- 37:24Speaker 14: Absolutely, And you can learn more if you've not heard
- 37:27Speaker 14: about this, Uh, it's over on the one oh seven
- 37:30Speaker 14: point three to beat facebook page.
- 37:31Speaker 2: We have the flyer up there with all the infl
- 37:33Speaker 2: and here's the like one of the important things we say.
- 37:35Speaker 2: And we want to make sure people realize the kid
- 37:38Speaker 2: has to be here, you know, And because I mean,
- 37:41Speaker 2: I'm I don't want to put ideas in people's heads,
- 37:43Speaker 2: but there's always a possibility that people take you know,
- 37:47Speaker 2: I've got five kids at home and the next thing
- 37:49Speaker 2: they end up on Facebook yard sale. So we're not
- 37:52Speaker 2: doing that. Got to be present, the kids have got
- 37:53Speaker 2: to be present to win. And I know it's a
- 37:55Speaker 2: busy time for kids there, you know, into sports and
- 37:58Speaker 2: so on and so forth, trying to get ready for
- 37:59Speaker 2: back to Cool next week. But parents, grandparents or whomever,
- 38:02Speaker 2: if you bring the kids at we got to see
- 38:04Speaker 2: the kid. No kid, no backpack right right? And those backpacks.
- 38:07Speaker 2: It's interesting And I had this conversation with Woody I
- 38:10Speaker 2: think last year or the year before about the things
- 38:12Speaker 2: that are in the backpacks have changed over the years. Absolutely.
- 38:15Speaker 2: I'm quite a bit older than you are, but I'll
- 38:17Speaker 2: tell you it's changed since when you were in school.
- 38:19Speaker 14: Ten years ago, in high school, graduated high school. It's
- 38:21Speaker 14: it's completely it's different, Yeah, for sure.
- 38:24Speaker 2: I mean because I had somebody one time say, well,
- 38:26Speaker 2: why are you giving them earbuds or headphones or whatever,
- 38:30Speaker 2: because it's required now and they're using them. Yeah, it's required.
- 38:32Speaker 2: And the water bottles. Those of us that have some
- 38:35Speaker 2: age on us, remember standing in line for the water
- 38:37Speaker 2: fountain and you too, one drinking after the other. And
- 38:40Speaker 2: god knows what was probably in that water, you know,
- 38:43Speaker 2: the coal sludge, I was dryver was drinking growing up,
- 38:46Speaker 2: probably explains a lot.
- 38:48Speaker 1: You said it.
- 38:49Speaker 2: But they kids have to have a water bottle now.
- 38:53Speaker 2: This is not just you know, it's twenty thirty years ago.
- 38:56Speaker 2: It was paper, pencil, notebooks or whatever it all. And
- 38:58Speaker 2: it changes every Year's gonna chang next year. Absolutely, yeah.
- 39:01Speaker 2: We we work with Canaw County Schools and guther lim
- 39:06Speaker 2: and and say okay, what do kids need this year?
- 39:08Speaker 2: Because it's it changes over the years.
- 39:11Speaker 14: It is the backpack attack again today three thirty lineup
- 39:15Speaker 14: starts here at our studios. Four point thirty is when
- 39:18Speaker 14: the giveaways begin.
- 39:19Speaker 2: All right, Logan Scott. You can hear him on the beat, right,
- 39:22Speaker 2: aren't you going to be?
- 39:23Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 39:23Speaker 2: I hear it about fourteen minutes. Okay. In other words,
- 39:25Speaker 2: shut up, Dave. I'm going to go get on the air.

- 43:05Speaker 2: I've had again. A couple of years ago somebody called
- 43:09Speaker 2: textas show or whatever and said, well at this backpack
- 43:12Speaker 2: attack why are you giving out headphones because they're required.
- 43:15Speaker 2: Kids have to have earbuds, headphones, something like that in school.
- 43:18Speaker 2: Now now in many cases the schools provide them. They
- 43:22Speaker 2: have to have a water bottle. The things change. I
- 43:25Speaker 2: am old enough. I told somebody in the building this
- 43:27Speaker 2: the other day. And this person's only about ten years
- 43:30Speaker 2: younger than I am. That I can remember buying books
- 43:34Speaker 2: before we buy school. Now, we didn't buy all of
- 43:36Speaker 2: our books, but there were certain workbooks that were required
- 43:40Speaker 2: and there was one store in town that sold them,
- 43:43Speaker 2: and you had to go buy the workbooks. And I
- 43:48Speaker 2: don't remember anybody complaining. Now you couldn't do that now
- 43:51Speaker 2: because you couldn't require them, because somebody would say, well,
- 43:54Speaker 2: you're disenfranchising this person. Whatever. You know, I'm just saying
- 43:57Speaker 2: that you used to be different back the day you
- 44:00Speaker 2: were required to buy stuff. But we're trying to help out.
- 44:04Speaker 2: That's the whole thing. With the nineteenth Annual one oh
- 44:07Speaker 2: seven three, the beat Backpack Attack again. Line up at
- 44:10Speaker 2: three point thirty this afternoon on our parking lot. Get
- 44:13Speaker 2: here early, and we're keeping a close eye on the weather.
- 44:15Speaker 2: We understand that we have a contingency plan if Brian
- 44:19Speaker 2: Hughes fails us and we have a heavy downpour. So
- 44:21Speaker 2: we got we got a plan all right, But he
- 44:24Speaker 2: says we should be okay out there. So when you
- 44:26Speaker 2: come to the lot, I'll say this, we're not. You're
- 44:28Speaker 2: not going to see the tents up out on the
- 44:30Speaker 2: parking lot because we don't want to go chasing tents
- 44:32Speaker 2: down the street. But we'll have the parking lot all
- 44:35Speaker 2: blocked off like we normally do, and the station vehicles
- 44:37Speaker 2: will be out there, and your favorite WVRC media Charleston
- 44:40Speaker 2: personalities will all be out there as well, helping. It's
- 44:44Speaker 2: very orderly. But the thing is number one thing is
- 44:48Speaker 2: we have to see the kid. You cannot just show
- 44:51Speaker 2: up mom, dad, grandparents and say well I got four
- 44:54Speaker 2: kids at home. We got to see the kid, and
- 44:56Speaker 2: we have to be able to personally place the backpack
- 44:59Speaker 2: in said Youngin's hand. Text Dave Monday, you were talking
- 45:05Speaker 2: about how nasty people have become, an asking how did
- 45:07Speaker 2: we get here? Answer? You see it and hear it
- 45:09Speaker 2: every day now from politicians, whether on television interviews or
- 45:12Speaker 2: walking through the halls of Congress or speaking on the
- 45:14Speaker 2: House or Senate floor. When people see that behavior. They
- 45:17Speaker 2: take it as quote, it's okay for me to insult,
- 45:19Speaker 2: and now'll be a bully. That's how kids do it.
- 45:22Speaker 2: That's how kids become bullies. In classrooms. They see adults
- 45:25Speaker 2: doing the exact same thing, so they think it is okay.
- 45:30Speaker 2: Coming up later to Dave Metrodew's Midday thirteen News Into
- 45:33Speaker 2: Night Live anchor Mande Baron and Me powered by Selango
- 45:35Speaker 2: Law from the We Love to Talk To Famous People Department.
- 45:39Speaker 2: Check this out, folks. Patrick Duffy, Yes, that Patrick Duffy,
- 45:44Speaker 2: Bobby from Dallas Demand from Atlantis step by Step ABC television.
- 45:50Speaker 2: Back in the nineties, he along with actress Linda Pearl
- 45:53Speaker 2: and you may remember her from Happy Days, playing the
- 45:57Speaker 2: part of Phonsie's girlfriend Ashley Fist in the later days
- 46:01Speaker 2: of the show, when they decided fons He needed to
- 46:03Speaker 2: settle down. Uh and he got a one girlfriend. I
- 46:06Speaker 2: know there was there was a pinky Tuscadero. I know
- 46:09Speaker 2: all about that. God, I know way too much. I
- 46:12Speaker 2: don't go I got way too much stuff in my head.
- 46:14Speaker 2: But anyway, Uh. Linda Pearl Uh is an actress appeared
- 46:17Speaker 2: on several several other things. While she was on she
- 46:19Speaker 2: had a couple of spots on the Office, I think
- 46:21Speaker 2: one of my favorite shows. So, uh, Patrick Duffy has
- 46:26Speaker 2: got a new venture called Duffy's Dough. It is a
- 46:30Speaker 2: sour dough bread it's a breadline and it's being sold
- 46:33Speaker 2: at Kroger with one of the profits being donated to
- 46:37Speaker 2: hunger relief programs. So there's definitely a West Virginia time.
- 46:41Speaker 2: Linda Pearl actually herself has West Virginia ties, and so
- 46:44Speaker 2: their folks reached out to us and said, Hey, we'd
- 46:46Speaker 2: like to go on the state wide show, uh, to
- 46:48Speaker 2: talk about what we're doing here. I think it's a
- 46:50Speaker 2: wonderful program. It's called Duffy's Dough and it is a
- 46:53Speaker 2: line of sourdough breads, uh, founded by Patrick Duffy, he
- 46:57Speaker 2: of Dallas, Man from Atlanta, step by step, so on
- 47:00Speaker 2: and so forth. So they're going to join us on
- 47:02Speaker 2: the show today. Looking forward to that. Also on the
- 47:06Speaker 2: show today, honey to Mayor Patrick Ferrell is going to
- 47:08Speaker 2: stop by to talk about flock cameras. They had another
- 47:10Speaker 2: city council meeting which was discussed a couple of nights ago,
- 47:13Speaker 2: so we'll talk to him about that. Brad Howe Metro
- 47:15Speaker 2: News Sports will stop by. You know it's getting closed
- 47:20Speaker 2: Man for Mountaineer Football, I mean it really really is,
- 47:22Speaker 2: and Marshall football and all the football. So we're going
- 47:24Speaker 2: to talk to Brad how about that in Open Line
- 47:26Speaker 2: West Virginia Coming up at two thirty today Metro News
- 47:29Speaker 2: Midday powered by a sal Ain gol Law featuring thirteen
- 47:31Speaker 2: News and Tonight Live anchor Amanda Barron and me. That
- 47:35Speaker 2: is coming up on the show later today. We will
- 47:38Speaker 2: start at noon on this show Tomorrow. Cheryl Ellis from
- 47:42Speaker 2: Advantage Valley will stop by, Matt Gallagher from Americans for
- 47:45Speaker 2: Prosperities here and we're going to talk to Ron. Marnie
- 47:49Speaker 2: russ Meyer, breast cancer advocate, coming up on the show
- 47:52Speaker 2: tomorrow as well. Tech says day the murder of an
- 47:56Speaker 2: ennocent dog in Mingo County so heinous and evil it
- 47:58Speaker 2: has drawn national attention to the spread of animal abuse cases.
- 48:02Speaker 2: Prominent animal advocate, digital content creator and a former TV
- 48:06Speaker 2: news anchor with thirty year background in broadcast journalism, Paul
- 48:10Speaker 2: Muller or Mueller, has taken up this case of media platforms.
- 48:14Speaker 2: He exposes animal cruelty, highlights shelter whistleblowers and tracks animal
- 48:19Speaker 2: justice cases. Follow him, please, sends a Texter quickly, And
- 48:24Speaker 2: I'm gonna bring TJ. Meadows in here because I haven't
- 48:26Speaker 2: got to talk to TJ in a while and I
- 48:27Speaker 2: miss him. I just miss him, but he's not around. Yesterday,
- 48:31Speaker 2: of course, we all battled the weather and everything yesterday.
- 48:34Speaker 2: I left the office here at eleven eleven about four
- 48:37Speaker 2: thirty or so yesterday afternoon, an hour and twenty minutes
- 48:42Speaker 2: to get to Tay's Valley yesterday, and there wasn't weather
- 48:45Speaker 2: related because at that point the weather was fine. It
- 48:49Speaker 2: was navigating I sixty four Big Blue Bridge yesterday. There
- 48:55Speaker 2: all the lanes come together, okay, you know when you're
- 48:58Speaker 2: coming from the seventy seven seven nine split. You know,
- 49:01Speaker 2: people getting off work at the at the Capitol or
- 49:03Speaker 2: downtown Charleston or whatever, everybody coming together, and there was
- 49:06Speaker 2: one lane open yesterday. Now, do not I'm not gonna
- 49:10Speaker 2: be one that criticizes our highway's workers, okay, because I
- 49:12Speaker 2: know the hard working men and women do a great
- 49:14Speaker 2: job out there overall. But it just seemed to me,
- 49:17Speaker 2: and maybe they can explain it to me, to be
- 49:19Speaker 2: a little bit odd that at that time of day,
- 49:21Speaker 2: four thirty in the afternoon, busiest time of the day,
- 49:24Speaker 2: that there was one lane of the big blue bridge open,
- 49:26Speaker 2: and there was nobody there working out. They could have
- 49:28Speaker 2: been waiting on something to settle. I don't know. But
- 49:31Speaker 2: the weirdest thing that I saw yesterday meadows I'm gonna
- 49:36Speaker 2: bring you in on this, okay, So if you can
- 49:39Speaker 2: visualize this, okay, I when I leave here, I drive
- 49:43Speaker 2: and normally drive like by the ballpark, More Street, get back,
- 49:46Speaker 2: you know, up on the interstate, okay, someway.
- 49:48Speaker 9: All right.
- 49:49Speaker 2: So I am on the Interstate in the far right lane,
- 49:52Speaker 2: completely stop as it goes under you know, one of
- 49:56Speaker 2: the bridges, and you're right across from women and children. So, okay,
- 49:58Speaker 2: that's where I am. Yesterday. I got where I am
- 50:00Speaker 2: kind of get you know, you go under a bridge
- 50:02Speaker 2: and you come back out the other side.
- 50:03Speaker 4: Got it.
- 50:03Speaker 2: I'm sitting there and not moving, and in the far
- 50:08Speaker 2: right I'm in the far right lane. Okay, I'm talking
- 50:11Speaker 2: about on the shoulder. A semi truck, all right, is
- 50:17Speaker 2: driving on the shoulder trying to get by all the
- 50:20Speaker 2: other cars, including one of the semis. Okay, Now, I
- 50:25Speaker 2: look in my rear view mirror. And I'm gonna be honest.
- 50:28Speaker 2: I was talking on my phone, hands free, hands free device,
- 50:31Speaker 2: all right, and talking to and I said, oh my,
- 50:34Speaker 2: what am I seeing here? I think a couple of
- 50:36Speaker 2: other experts may have come out of there. This person
- 50:40Speaker 2: was driving on the shoulder yesterday. At one point they
- 50:44Speaker 2: barely cleared another semi truck that was there. I mean
- 50:47Speaker 2: to the point that the guy who was sitting there
- 50:49Speaker 2: where he should be was blowing the horn. Lord knows
- 50:52Speaker 2: what was going on between those And I don't think
- 50:53Speaker 2: what what is wrong with people? It's called breaking the law.
- 50:57Speaker 2: There's a law against that. That's an emergency vehicle lane
- 51:00Speaker 2: that should be kept clear. And if you are not
- 51:01Speaker 2: an emergency vehicle, you can't be in it. And he
- 51:04Speaker 2: didn't have the hazard lights or anything. I mean, cause
- 51:05Speaker 2: you I want to say, well, maybe he or she
- 51:07Speaker 2: had a medical emergency whatever. Now to tow they didn't
- 51:10Speaker 2: have their lights on. I'm like, my god, I go Dave.
- 51:14Speaker 2: The Backpack is a great program, shows the compassionate love
- 51:17Speaker 2: of the great majority of our citizen thanks as the
