- 1:46Speaker 1: Amazing, yes, And as you can tell by my hallal
- 1:50Speaker 1: Jordan aka and this green room behind me, we are
- 1:54Speaker 1: here to discuss the.
- 1:56Speaker 3: New HBO series.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Seems like I can call it a hits series at
- 2:00Speaker 1: this point, not really sure, but people are vibbing to
- 2:03Speaker 1: the first episode, Lanterns is out, created by the one
- 2:08Speaker 1: and only our friend of the show, Damon Lindelof and
- 2:12Speaker 1: Tom King, you know, and they got another cat who's
- 2:15Speaker 1: on it?
- 2:15Speaker 3: Who?
- 2:16Speaker 5: Chris Monday?
- 2:17Speaker 3: Yeah, who's the showrunner of Ozark and some other stuff.
- 2:20Speaker 5: Also your boy James Gunn, he's a I.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Mean, you know, of course, you know, big James Dunn
- 2:25Speaker 1: behind it all. But Damon and Tom King and Mundy
- 2:28Speaker 1: are the people you know on the day to day
- 2:30Speaker 1: responsible for this series. And you know who we can
- 2:32Speaker 1: lay the blame and the you know, shame and the
- 2:35Speaker 1: love to you know all that, you know, whatever you
- 2:37Speaker 1: want to do, put it on them basically, basically, I mean,
- 2:40Speaker 1: it's a lot of people involved, but they are the
- 2:41Speaker 1: main people. And the first episode pilot dropped last night,
- 2:46Speaker 1: you know, off top, what'd y'all think well again.
- 2:51Speaker 4: Shouts to Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, Aaron Pierre that's
- 2:56Speaker 4: as John Stewart.
- 2:58Speaker 5: This was solid, funny enough.
- 3:01Speaker 4: The episode was called pilot, nice triple on Tandra there,
- 3:04Speaker 4: and it was a strong pilot. I could see why
- 3:08Speaker 4: I got picked up fast besides the obvious you know,
- 3:10Speaker 4: money signs in everybody's eyes, but it was actually deeply
- 3:14Speaker 4: well written. Is very you know, classic Damon lindelof just
- 3:18Speaker 4: in terms of tone, in terms of candor, you know,
- 3:22Speaker 4: it's very has very and it kind of reminds me
- 3:24Speaker 4: of like what the DCU was trying to go towards, like,
- 3:27Speaker 4: you know, the darkness aspect of it and the gritty
- 3:29Speaker 4: realness of it. Again, a nice contrast between like the
- 3:33Speaker 4: bright sunshiny views of you know, the Superman movie that
- 3:37Speaker 4: came out last year. This is what we talk about
- 3:41Speaker 4: when people make the obvious comparisons to the MCU.
- 3:43Speaker 5: You know, this is the quote kind.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Of street level version because it's more gritty, but it's
- 3:48Speaker 4: still dealing with extra terrestrial and powers and things like that.
- 3:51Speaker 4: So it's a nice combination. We've already seen this, or
- 3:55Speaker 4: I've seen or some people let me say, some people
- 3:58Speaker 4: have seen a little bit of Kyle Chandler as how
- 4:01Speaker 4: just in terms of his approach on the character. There's
- 4:04Speaker 4: been a lot of like clips and videos and stuff
- 4:08Speaker 4: like that that's been out for a while. People have
- 4:10Speaker 4: been doing mad ai pictures of Aaron Pierre, so they've
- 4:13Speaker 4: been ready to see him.
- 4:15Speaker 5: They work very well.
- 4:16Speaker 4: I would say that it is the opposite of a
- 4:19Speaker 4: buddy cop situation. It is I hate you, I hate
- 4:22Speaker 4: you more, but you know, we got to do this
- 4:24Speaker 4: together type of connection that they got and it works.
- 4:28Speaker 4: You can tell even at the end of the episode
- 4:30Speaker 4: when aaronper in real life say hey, we're actually friends,
- 4:33Speaker 4: like you can tell like that friendship is strong when
- 4:36Speaker 4: it comes to these characters themselves. The friendship built on respect,
- 4:41Speaker 4: I'll say, and that permeates the episode there is I
- 4:46Speaker 4: would say, this series so far is stacking up to
- 4:49Speaker 4: be like a procedural drama.
- 4:52Speaker 5: Gives me a little bit of crime, give me a
- 4:54Speaker 5: little bit of not VCU. What's it called?
- 4:57Speaker 4: What's those crime TV shows that have the letters what
- 5:01Speaker 4: is it I SVU?
- 5:03Speaker 6: That shit?
- 5:04Speaker 4: Ye, very much a lot of that stuff going on,
- 5:07Speaker 4: and you know, all surrounded by aliens, and lanterns and
- 5:09Speaker 4: stuff like that. So overall I really enjoyed it. There's
- 5:13Speaker 4: some stuff that I did not like. We'll get to
- 5:15Speaker 4: that later, but it was strong.
- 5:17Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 5:19Speaker 2: I think my first I guess indicator that I was like,
- 5:22Speaker 2: I might like it here was the carflet with the
- 5:27Speaker 2: action part of it all, but for a couple of
- 5:30Speaker 2: different reasons, when we'll get into those. And then my
- 5:33Speaker 2: second note of like, Okay, I might really really like
- 5:36Speaker 2: it here was when I saw my homegirl, the Scottish
- 5:38Speaker 2: actress who's a sheriff, Kelly McDonald. There's never been a
- 5:42Speaker 2: project that she's been in that I haven't been like,
- 5:44Speaker 2: oh my gosh, she's making this hers and when she
- 5:48Speaker 2: can speak in her accent too, it's just like extra charming.
- 5:51Speaker 2: But so I'm like, I'm okay, she's gonna be American here, fine,
- 5:54Speaker 2: but like I would really enjoy she was doing her
- 5:56Speaker 2: Scottish accent.
- 5:57Speaker 6: That's beside the point. I just didn't really enjoy her.
- 6:00Speaker 2: And so when I saw her, I was like, Okay,
- 6:03Speaker 2: this cast might be haven't had hitters.
- 6:06Speaker 6: And then the more characters I saw him, like, they
- 6:08Speaker 6: really do have hitters.
- 6:09Speaker 2: In here, and I could see how the story was
- 6:12Speaker 2: set up for as soon as how I went to
- 6:14Speaker 2: court and he's like, got to wait until the court
- 6:17Speaker 2: is happening. I'm like, Oh, we're really gonna be set
- 6:20Speaker 2: in this town. We're not really moving that much this
- 6:22Speaker 2: season probably we're not gonna be doing a lot of
- 6:25Speaker 2: space stuff whatever. So now it's gonna give me an
- 6:27Speaker 2: opportunity to get grounded in this S universe.
- 6:30Speaker 6: So I'm not a big DC person.
- 6:32Speaker 2: I've dabbled here and there with DC stuff, but I've
- 6:35Speaker 2: never just like kind of like sunk my teeth into it.
- 6:38Speaker 2: And I think of all the DC properties that I've
- 6:40Speaker 2: heard of, I think Green Lanterns is likely the closest
- 6:43Speaker 2: one to like my interest area because it's got a
- 6:45Speaker 2: lot of diplahomacy and entering the go lactic stuff that
- 6:49Speaker 2: I think I would be really like tied into NOOI.
- 6:52Speaker 2: I'd just never gotten into it. So this is the
- 6:54Speaker 2: Lanterns coming out made me like, Okay, this might be
- 6:57Speaker 2: my time to pick up on something. I'm always open
- 6:59Speaker 2: to picking up a new interest and story, and so
- 7:03Speaker 2: I think so far what I'm getting through this pilot
- 7:06Speaker 2: is that is giving me the actors that I want.
- 7:09Speaker 2: It's giving me a little bit of storytelling that I'm
- 7:11Speaker 2: interested in. I think having it grounded so that we're
- 7:14Speaker 2: not starting off with a lot of intergalaphic stuff is
- 7:17Speaker 2: going to help me like get better aware of the
- 7:19Speaker 2: world and how everything works. I like it that they're
- 7:21Speaker 2: doing it without like being over the head with it,
- 7:24Speaker 2: so that's good for me, like my attention span. I
- 7:26Speaker 2: also like, as you were saying, like the law and
- 7:29Speaker 2: order of it all, the CSI of it all. For me,
- 7:33Speaker 2: I know that the mystery is set up in a
- 7:34Speaker 2: way that I actually want to follow the mystery or
- 7:37Speaker 2: like try to like figure out the clues as the
- 7:39Speaker 2: characters are or even get ahead of them if I can.
- 7:42Speaker 2: When they set up like different clues throughout the episode,
- 7:47Speaker 2: but you don't know necessarily if that's information that you
- 7:50Speaker 2: want to keep or if you just kind of like let.
- 7:52Speaker 6: Falls it aside.
- 7:53Speaker 2: And so when we get to the end of the
- 7:55Speaker 2: episode and we see him sitting in the stands and
- 8:01Speaker 2: there's another question that arises from what's happening there, then
- 8:05Speaker 2: I'm like, Oh, this is a mystery I actually want
- 8:07Speaker 2: to follow, Like it's not something that's just kind of
- 8:09Speaker 2: like thrown in there for the narrative and I'm just
- 8:12Speaker 2: going to like sit around.
- 8:13Speaker 6: And like care it.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Like I really enjoyed that, Like a good mystery will
- 8:17Speaker 2: put at least one of the primary characters on the
- 8:22Speaker 2: like shopping block for you to kind of figure out
- 8:25Speaker 2: like what happens, like how do we get there?
- 8:27Speaker 6: Record scratch what happened? How do we get here?
- 8:29Speaker 3: Kind of moment?
- 8:29Speaker 6: And I like that.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Yeah. I think another element of a really good mystery,
- 8:33Speaker 1: and something the name of Linda Laws is very great
- 8:35Speaker 1: at doing in general, is introducing all the characters who
- 8:38Speaker 1: are involved in the mystery and the suspects and whoever
- 8:42Speaker 1: is probably responsible for what we see happen to How
- 8:45Speaker 1: at the end of the episode in this first episode.
- 8:48Speaker 1: So one of the people who we see in this
- 8:49Speaker 1: first episode is whoever killed how Yeah, that's for sure.
- 8:53Speaker 1: And so I think Damon's great at that. It definitely
- 8:55Speaker 1: reminded me of the Watchmen pilot, because you know, both
- 8:58Speaker 1: of them end on a character death, and both of
- 9:01Speaker 1: them were It wasn't until the character death where I
- 9:04Speaker 1: fully was like, oh, okay, I'm all the way here
- 9:06Speaker 1: for this show. You know, we had something super cooking
- 9:09Speaker 1: and I immediately had to go rewind and watch it
- 9:12Speaker 1: again so I could be like, Okay, now that I'm
- 9:15Speaker 1: really feeling this, let me, you know, catch up on
- 9:17Speaker 1: every game. Because for me, even though I as a
- 9:21Speaker 1: kid gravitated towards Marvel first, DC was probably the first
- 9:25Speaker 1: things that I was introduced to as superheroes, and the
- 9:29Speaker 1: Flash and especially Green Lantern was my favorite. Like Green
- 9:33Speaker 1: Lantern was always my favorite. Jon Stewart, you know, was there.
- 9:37Speaker 1: I liked John Stewart, but I just love how Jordan.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I just loved the whole idea of it. I loved
- 9:41Speaker 1: the fact that there was this Green Lantern core and
- 9:44Speaker 1: they had all these weird aliens and everybody had a ring,
- 9:47Speaker 1: and I just thought, you know, that was my favorite
- 9:49Speaker 1: DC property. And then when I really started getting in
- 9:52Speaker 1: the comics, there was a run by I recently found
- 9:55Speaker 1: out that the writer is kind of a you know,
- 9:58Speaker 1: let's not talk about him, but the artist this was
- 10:00Speaker 1: Pat Broderick, and it was a run where Green Lantern
- 10:03Speaker 1: was on Earth and how was like he had the
- 10:06Speaker 1: Great Temples on his hair. He was a little older,
- 10:09Speaker 1: like he had to read Richards going on, and he
- 10:12Speaker 1: was tired of using the ring so he was just
- 10:14Speaker 1: traveling across America and trying not to use the ring
- 10:17Speaker 1: because he'd been through so much as Green Lantern. So
- 10:20Speaker 1: that was always my reference point for Green Lantern, you know,
- 10:23Speaker 1: this hard luck hero that's what they were calling, you know,
- 10:25Speaker 1: the hard traveling, the hard luck hero who is just
- 10:28Speaker 1: you know, not really wanting to be green Landing anymore.
- 10:32Speaker 1: So that was like this, Kyle Chandler was perfection to me, honestly, like.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Like absolutely amazing.
- 10:41Speaker 1: You know, this is the haw Jordan that I always knew,
- 10:44Speaker 1: Like and like you said, Portia, Kelly MacDonald calling him out,
- 10:48Speaker 1: you know, Carrie calling him out and saying this man
- 10:51Speaker 1: don't love anyone, which I don't think is true, but
- 10:54Speaker 1: I do think that's the projection that How gives because
- 10:58Speaker 1: that's who he's been brought up to, you know, think
- 11:00Speaker 1: he has to be. And so all of that was
- 11:04Speaker 1: just perfection. I thought Aaron Pierre was amazing as John Stewart.
- 11:09Speaker 1: That was like when I would the beginning of the
- 11:11Speaker 1: episode definitely threw me off because it was not the
- 11:14Speaker 1: John Stewart I know, like the whole introduction in knowing
- 11:19Speaker 1: that John was a kid, seeing how as far as
- 11:21Speaker 1: I remember that was never a think how was always
- 11:24Speaker 1: you know, he wore a mash. He never let the
- 11:26Speaker 1: world know he was hal Jordan won. So that whole
- 11:29Speaker 1: thing and if it did come, it came way later
- 11:31Speaker 1: in his career, and John was always closer to age
- 11:34Speaker 1: to him than everything.
- 11:35Speaker 3: So I thought that was interesting.
- 11:36Speaker 1: But then I did see how they did the whole
- 11:38Speaker 1: John Stewart Senior and junior, and so I think that's
- 11:42Speaker 1: how they're being like where John, Because there's a lot
- 11:44Speaker 1: of questions about that opening, right, And I guess we
- 11:47Speaker 1: could talk about that right away, because that was like,
- 11:50Speaker 1: all right, it was I'll just say my questions, right, okay.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Because the kids are terrified of their dad coming home
- 11:56Speaker 1: and finding out that they were watching TV, is yep,
- 12:00Speaker 1: the sign of abuse. I mean, we see several signs
- 12:02Speaker 1: of abuse in the scene, but the fact that when
- 12:06Speaker 1: he does walk in, he knows they have been watching it,
- 12:08Speaker 1: and he actually expects John Jr. To be watching and
- 12:13Speaker 1: he asked for the name of Greenlander and he says
- 12:15Speaker 1: how something and he replies how like okay, whatever. But
- 12:20Speaker 1: then this is where it gets refusal for me, because
- 12:22Speaker 1: they go outside, you know, he puts the app on
- 12:24Speaker 1: his sad shoots it off said, which is horrific, terrifying,
- 12:27Speaker 1: all these type of things. You know, we're gonna have
- 12:30Speaker 1: a million pieces on the use of black men, et cetera.
- 12:33Speaker 1: I definitely felt weird about it. It was a lot.
- 12:36Speaker 1: But it's like he.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Already knows that the Green Lanterns can't have fear? Yeah,
- 12:42Speaker 3: how when how is how is just revealing himself on
- 12:45Speaker 3: TV at that moment.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Right, So you're saying that John, Yeah, and he's also
- 12:53Speaker 2: in the army, like.
- 12:54Speaker 5: They're both in a military fatigue, So we don't know.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Yeah, And that's my assumption, and that's how their time
- 13:00Speaker 1: and get into the character that people know from the
- 13:02Speaker 1: comic books where John. I don't know if they knew
- 13:05Speaker 1: each other, but they, you know, obviously get to know
- 13:06Speaker 1: each other. I don't know if they know each other. Yeah,
- 13:10Speaker 1: I don't know if they get to know each other
- 13:11Speaker 1: before they were Green Banner.
- 13:12Speaker 4: So yeah, definitely want to get flowers to JAYL Fons Nicholson,
- 13:16Speaker 4: who plays John Stewart Senior.
- 13:17Speaker 5: He's one of my favorite actors p V.
- 13:22Speaker 3: Yes, I know, damn, what have changed.
- 13:26Speaker 5: As soon as I saw him, I was like, yeah,
- 13:28Speaker 5: I was like.
- 13:30Speaker 1: And he got back to like he was in something
- 13:32Speaker 1: when he was young, right, because I remember his face
- 13:34Speaker 1: of the young man. He's like child show or a
- 13:37Speaker 1: different World, one of them joints like I remember him
- 13:38Speaker 1: like as a teenager and something maybe like you know,
- 13:41Speaker 1: one of them.
- 13:42Speaker 3: I don't know, one of them family shows.
- 13:45Speaker 4: I remember, well, j has been in mad Ship for
- 13:50Speaker 4: for many many years. He's he's he's actually he's going
- 13:55Speaker 4: to be one of the goaded actors just because of
- 13:56Speaker 4: his range. And I don't think people realize, like especially
- 13:59Speaker 4: people who only watch Three Valley, Like, I don't think
- 14:01Speaker 4: think people understand the level of range and the level
- 14:04Speaker 4: of character that he has.
- 14:06Speaker 2: So I want to see in theater, Like I think
- 14:08Speaker 2: that would be a really nice theater.
- 14:10Speaker 5: Yeah. Absolutely, he's totally a the theater kid.
- 14:13Speaker 4: I liked his portrayal of John Stewart Senior, and I
- 14:16Speaker 4: hope that we do see more flashbacks of him because
- 14:19Speaker 4: later on in this episode, you do hear older older
- 14:23Speaker 4: when you do hear an older version of him speaking,
- 14:26Speaker 4: or you just assume it has to be a older version, right.
- 14:27Speaker 4: Aaron Pierre's character, John Stewart Junior is talking to his
- 14:31Speaker 4: dad and you know, they're they're basically the same age
- 14:33Speaker 4: in real life, so you can't, you know, you got
- 14:35Speaker 4: to slide in somebody news. So we're gonna see an
- 14:37Speaker 4: actual older actor portray John John Senior when he grows up.
- 14:41Speaker 5: But that being said, the portrayal of.
- 14:44Speaker 4: That, I wanted to talk about that relationship real quick,
- 14:48Speaker 4: just between the dad and uh and and and John Junior.
- 14:54Speaker 5: That was hard to watch.
- 14:55Speaker 4: I gotta say that, Like, you know, we talked about
- 14:56Speaker 4: the abuse of it all and all that stuff, and
- 14:58Speaker 4: also as a black kid, like that was hard to watch.
- 15:01Speaker 5: And I understand that, you know.
- 15:03Speaker 4: Very particular of a highly disciplined household. Not to say
- 15:07Speaker 4: that everybody shooting apples off their children's head, but there's
- 15:10Speaker 4: levels of it, you know, physically mentally happening. When we're
- 15:13Speaker 4: talking about that discipline and what you guys said about
- 15:16Speaker 4: the fact that the father clearly probably knows how personally
- 15:19Speaker 4: knows who he is, maybe there was something that happened
- 15:22Speaker 4: with the ring who knows right, like it could have
- 15:24Speaker 4: been something involved.
- 15:26Speaker 1: All right in the in the comics, John is you know,
- 15:29Speaker 1: definitely the you know, successor to how and God Gardner.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Actually I remember in one origin story, Guy Gardner is
- 15:36Speaker 1: supposed to be the first dude to get the ring,
- 15:39Speaker 1: but he's like in a coma when Avansurr crashes and
- 15:43Speaker 1: so it passes over Guy and goes to How and
- 15:45Speaker 1: God hates How over that for years, even once he
- 15:49Speaker 1: eventually gets his own ring, et cetera. Yeah, but I
- 15:52Speaker 1: just to say this, I grew up with a military father.
- 15:55Speaker 1: My dad Rest in peace was ex air Force and
- 15:59Speaker 1: all that entail. It was like it like I didn't
- 16:02Speaker 1: have apple shot off my head, but I lived in
- 16:04Speaker 1: fear of my dad coming home every night.
- 16:06Speaker 3: You know.
- 16:06Speaker 1: It was that type of thing where my dad was
- 16:08Speaker 1: super strict and a super wild boy and had a
- 16:11Speaker 1: heavy hand. And so it was just one of those
- 16:13Speaker 1: things where I grew up with that type of you know,
- 16:17Speaker 1: everything must be perfection when this man walks in the house,
- 16:20Speaker 1: otherwise his problems, you know.
- 16:21Speaker 3: And so that it was the flashbacks for me watching.
- 16:26Speaker 4: That, right and with my and I know that about
- 16:29Speaker 4: a lot of military kids in general.
- 16:30Speaker 5: So to see that portrayed here.
- 16:32Speaker 4: And then also how that going, how that imbues into
- 16:35Speaker 4: the character of John Junior, right, like what it means
- 16:38Speaker 4: about his character, whether character traits or character flaws, you
- 16:41Speaker 4: know a little bit of both about how he views himself,
- 16:44Speaker 4: how he raises himself. And also it's interesting because there's
- 16:48Speaker 4: a level of rebelliousness rebelliousness there, right, So even though
- 16:52Speaker 4: he seems like at least in the show that is
- 16:54Speaker 4: very straight and narrow by the book type of guy,
- 16:57Speaker 4: he's also doing some functionhit too.
- 16:59Speaker 1: On the Side's like, like he says at one point,
- 17:02Speaker 1: is question that does he respect how and it's more
- 17:05Speaker 1: does you respect himself?
- 17:06Speaker 3: Because you know he's a cheap trick, you.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Know, you know, before we get into the to go
- 17:15Speaker 2: that take an right, I just want some thoughts because like,
- 17:21Speaker 2: but for me it's really interesting because we A good
- 17:27Speaker 2: note for that first scene is that there are no
- 17:30Speaker 2: like women or girls present and that first scene at.
- 17:34Speaker 1: All, and and you lose a parent and that whole
- 17:39Speaker 1: household is like but if you see the house, that's
- 17:42Speaker 1: very very clean, right, Like it's like very tidy, and
- 17:46Speaker 1: you go whenever we see the outside, we see that.
- 17:49Speaker 2: There's a lot of bullet holes from like John's junior's height.
- 17:56Speaker 5: Getting shot with the applesh.
- 17:58Speaker 6: So but like his older siblings are of the range
- 18:01Speaker 6: where those higher shots are being taken too, right, So.
- 18:06Speaker 2: There's like a lot of questions and thought around that,
- 18:09Speaker 2: around like how long has this been happening?
- 18:12Speaker 6: How is he able to get away with it? Where
- 18:15Speaker 6: like it's like it's a shed, like people people are
- 18:17Speaker 6: hearing you take shots, yeah, on a regular basis in
- 18:21Speaker 6: your backyard.
- 18:22Speaker 3: And how are they to say, I mean, this is
- 18:29Speaker 3: ninety six though, right, But they don't.
- 18:31Speaker 4: It's not even like theyt six. It starts ninety six
- 18:35Speaker 4: on their kids when they were kids. The scene starts
- 18:38Speaker 4: in ninety six. Yes, it keeps going every ten years,
- 18:41Speaker 4: so it jumps twenty years.
- 18:43Speaker 3: For the last one.
- 18:44Speaker 2: It's nine twenty sixteen and then ten to twenty twenty
- 18:49Speaker 2: six correct, Yeah, yeah, well.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Yeah in ninety six.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Drum shots in the backyard in the south of the
- 18:53Speaker 1: regular occurrence, if not.
- 18:56Speaker 2: More any ricochet, Like how is that? Like, how do
- 19:01Speaker 2: you not like, come on, you're hitting something else?
- 19:04Speaker 4: I just took it as someone from firmly from the north,
- 19:07Speaker 4: from Brooklyn, New York. I just took it, well, that's
- 19:08Speaker 4: what they just be doing in.
- 19:09Speaker 3: This out someone from FIRMI from Houston, Texas.
- 19:12Speaker 1: I grew up with so many gun shots every night
- 19:14Speaker 1: that you would like what single shot would be less?
- 19:17Speaker 3: You know, that might actually make me wonder.
- 19:20Speaker 2: That's but that's a question though, because like for me,
- 19:22Speaker 2: that looked like they were living in the burbs. They
- 19:24Speaker 2: didn't like they were living on base. It didn't look
- 19:25Speaker 2: like they were living like in a country side. Look,
- 19:27Speaker 2: they were living in Houston and it was gunshots every night.
- 19:31Speaker 3: It was normal.
- 19:32Speaker 1: No, I live in third board, which if you saw it,
- 19:35Speaker 1: we would think we were in the burbs. And but
- 19:36Speaker 1: it grew up and it's nothing but gunshots every night.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Compton is the burbs for those don't know.
- 19:43Speaker 5: The suburb suburb.
- 19:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I do think kind of even taking your thought
- 19:49Speaker 4: process a little further, Porshit, none of this is normal.
- 19:52Speaker 5: The way those kids are growing up are just not the.
- 19:55Speaker 6: Way earlier they were doing a piece of behavior. Them
- 19:58Speaker 6: being so scared. He was sending off.
- 20:01Speaker 2: The TV like preemptively, like he was like I like,
- 20:03Speaker 2: they could not sit still, but they thought that their
- 20:06Speaker 2: dad would come into the house and they were sitting
- 20:08Speaker 2: there watching TV.
- 20:09Speaker 4: Which further which further leaves us there's history with hal
- 20:12Speaker 4: Jordan because for the kids to know and it looked
- 20:14Speaker 4: like they were just watching TV and you're supposed to
- 20:16Speaker 4: watch TV. It was the content of what they was
- 20:18Speaker 4: watching and that mattered. So that's going to be a
- 20:21Speaker 4: definitely through line through the rest of the series, I think.
- 20:24Speaker 1: And it's also how his dad talks to him when
- 20:27Speaker 1: he says he tried to kill me. You know, there's
- 20:29Speaker 1: definitely his dad is like, you know, he.
- 20:31Speaker 3: Knows, what's up dad? This whole thing.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Yeah, they you know, he said he was interviewed for
- 20:37Speaker 1: the job, which he means he was interviewed by not
- 20:39Speaker 1: the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Guardians of the Universe,
- 20:41Speaker 1: but the Guardians, the Guardians of I think the whole
- 20:43Speaker 1: name is the Guardians of the University.
- 20:45Speaker 3: These little blue, big headed dudes.
- 20:47Speaker 1: And like you said, Portie were the other son's failures,
- 20:50Speaker 1: you know, because his dad has been training his sons
- 20:52Speaker 1: to be green lantern or to have no fear, which obviously.
- 20:56Speaker 2: He's training them for more than just that, Like he's
- 20:59Speaker 2: like because regardless off like if they make it or don't,
- 21:04Speaker 2: they're they're trained by his hand to do something, to
- 21:07Speaker 2: move a certain kind of way in their life. And
- 21:10Speaker 2: I think that, like for me, it's very interesting that
- 21:14Speaker 2: one that we see John Junior, his reaction being like
- 21:19Speaker 2: I'll just talk to him or whatever, even though he's
- 21:21Speaker 2: been pushed to like fear his father while also not
- 21:24Speaker 2: having any fear, which is kind of how black parents
- 21:28Speaker 2: worked for a minute for a good minute there. So
- 21:30Speaker 2: it's really interesting that that's the dynamic. And then he
- 21:34Speaker 2: whenever his father comes, he's like he's he's straight up
- 21:37Speaker 2: with them, he tells them whatever, and he's ready to
- 21:38Speaker 2: face the.
- 21:39Speaker 6: Gun or whatever.
- 21:40Speaker 2: But you can tell that the fact that he has
- 21:43Speaker 2: not cut off his father or he doesn't have like
- 21:45Speaker 2: a like he's not feeling hesitant about calling his father
- 21:50Speaker 2: after the incident with Hal shows that like he hasn't
- 21:53Speaker 2: processed at all what like any of that means to him.
- 21:59Speaker 2: He's just like the mindset like this is who I
- 22:01Speaker 2: need to be to do this thing. Like he's never
- 22:04Speaker 2: like questioned like does he.
- 22:05Speaker 6: Actually want this? Why does he want this?
- 22:08Speaker 2: Like you can So I'm wondering how much that's going
- 22:10Speaker 2: to be a part of his character development and journey
- 22:12Speaker 2: this season, because how Jordan his dynamic with him is
- 22:16Speaker 2: kind of like pressing on his buttons to try to
- 22:19Speaker 2: get a reaction out of him. That is not what
- 22:21Speaker 2: he's scripted in his brain to automatically do.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Like I said, not shooting apples off my head, but
- 22:26Speaker 1: definitely terrified of my dad every night, you know, when
- 22:28Speaker 1: he came home.
- 22:29Speaker 3: But it was like, what is this negro going to
- 22:31Speaker 3: do tonight? You know, what have I not done? Right?
- 22:33Speaker 3: That's trying to set this man off right.
- 22:35Speaker 1: So, and then at the same time having you know,
- 22:38Speaker 1: living in a world where you had to be fearless
- 22:41Speaker 1: and had to know, you know, you're black in this world.
- 22:44Speaker 1: You were living in a white man's world, all these
- 22:46Speaker 1: type of things, but then also having to be terrified
- 22:49Speaker 1: of my dad, being terrified of you know, to a
- 22:52Speaker 1: lesser sent my best friend Andrew's dad. You know, this
- 22:54Speaker 1: whole thing black men around me who were who would
- 22:58Speaker 1: beat the living shit out of me for pretty much anything.
- 23:00Speaker 1: And you just had to accept that that was just
- 23:02Speaker 1: part of growing up. And yeah, I was lucky where
- 23:06Speaker 1: I had other people in my life. I got to choose, like,
- 23:09Speaker 1: you know, my direction. You know, my dad never my dad,
- 23:12Speaker 1: as much as he was terrified, you know what terrified me,
- 23:16Speaker 1: he didn't really say you must do this in life.
- 23:19Speaker 1: You know, my dad was definitely very much like, oh,
- 23:21Speaker 1: my kid's a weird art kid.
- 23:22Speaker 3: Let him be that, you know.
- 23:24Speaker 1: So that was one thing that was one great because yeah,
- 23:28Speaker 1: poor John is definitely a robot, and I mean somebody
- 23:31Speaker 1: who becomes a military sniper.
- 23:33Speaker 3: You know. That also leads into that that's.
- 23:36Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, he's definitely right and they're gonna talk.
- 23:38Speaker 4: That's going to be part of the development of this
- 23:41Speaker 4: version of John Stewart Junior, just him from being a
- 23:44Speaker 4: straight robot to him you know, and also very black
- 23:47Speaker 4: and white in ways understanding the grades. Like you see
- 23:49Speaker 4: that in the very first scene with well, one of
- 23:52Speaker 4: the earlier scenes with the sheriff, where he said, well,
- 23:54Speaker 4: you should tell the sheriff and they're like, why would you,
- 23:56Speaker 4: And Kyle was like, don't do that, It's a bad idea.
- 24:00Speaker 4: He goes down there and then realizes, always.
- 24:01Speaker 6: Don't do it. He tells him to do it.
- 24:03Speaker 2: He's like, he asked me, what's your instinct and he
- 24:06Speaker 2: was like, I would go say he said, okay.
- 24:07Speaker 5: Well yeah, of course yes.
- 24:09Speaker 4: And what I'm saying is between the lines he's telling
- 24:11Speaker 4: you don't do it, that's stupid, and he does it anyway.
- 24:14Speaker 4: But that being said, you see the immediate consequences of that, Right,
- 24:17Speaker 4: he blows the cover, the guy runs, the alien runs,
- 24:20Speaker 4: et cetera, et cetera. That's going to be a constant
- 24:22Speaker 4: thing with and that's going on purpose. We're going to
- 24:25Speaker 4: see that over and over with John as he develops.
- 24:28Speaker 4: He's clearly seasoned, as by the end of the episode
- 24:31Speaker 4: you see that a little bit more of seasoning in him.
- 24:33Speaker 4: But how he gets there that's gonna be one of
- 24:35Speaker 4: the journeys for him, you know, from this robotic, very
- 24:39Speaker 4: strictly raised kid that you know was very much given,
- 24:44Speaker 4: you know, given the reward by being stoic, by not
- 24:48Speaker 4: having any fear, by you know, not showing emotion or
- 24:51Speaker 4: really being very black and white about things. Let's see
- 24:53Speaker 4: how he travels to the gray areas, right, and we
- 24:55Speaker 4: always already see some of the gray that he comes
- 24:57Speaker 4: in Bend. I mean, you call him a trick So
- 25:00Speaker 4: that's really good.
- 25:01Speaker 5: I appreciated that.
- 25:03Speaker 4: But but but, but when you were talking about your
- 25:05Speaker 4: own life experience man, and you mentioning being a black man,
- 25:08Speaker 4: and how excuse me and John being a black man.
- 25:11Speaker 4: I also that's one of the things that I had
- 25:13Speaker 4: questions about when it comes to this series. How or
- 25:17Speaker 4: if they were really going to even portray any like
- 25:21Speaker 4: racial undertone whatsoever, because it's like they do when they don't.
- 25:25Speaker 4: It was kind of pick and choose racism at times.
- 25:27Speaker 4: So I and maybe that's just because of the makeup
- 25:31Speaker 4: of the writing team. I didn't know, Like I don't know,
- 25:33Speaker 4: I don't know if there's any black people on the
- 25:35Speaker 4: writing team at all.
- 25:36Speaker 1: I would hot, I mean, Damon is smart enough that
- 25:40Speaker 1: I would think you would have somebody on.
- 25:42Speaker 4: The writing team maybe, And we don't know that yet, right,
- 25:45Speaker 4: it's just the first episodes. The reason why I'm asking
- 25:48Speaker 4: is because you know, there were it was interesting how
- 25:51Speaker 4: they how because I knew race was going to come
- 25:53Speaker 4: into the picture. They you know, they play it up
- 25:54Speaker 4: in different ways. When Hal had the conversation with the alien,
- 25:57Speaker 4: trying to suss him out, and he said, oh, you're
- 25:59Speaker 4: from a guy from rural Nebraska that has nothing to
- 26:02Speaker 4: say about Barack, who's saying Obama right, like him mentioning
- 26:06Speaker 4: that it's clear that that's that that thinking, right, that
- 26:09Speaker 4: that us thinking is in the picture. But then also
- 26:12Speaker 4: it's just like something the things that John is doing,
- 26:14Speaker 4: certain the movements being made. I'm just like oh, are
- 26:16Speaker 4: we like in a post racial society too? Like I
- 26:18Speaker 4: didn't know what approach they were going with.
- 26:21Speaker 2: But John and John also like in their phone conversation,
- 26:24Speaker 2: John Junior j John Senior, John Senior alludes to like
- 26:28Speaker 2: because what he's what John Junior says, it's like hal
- 26:31Speaker 2: is doing these things and John Senior says, he's just
- 26:34Speaker 2: like testing you. He's allowed to have timpertensions. We can't
- 26:37Speaker 2: do that, so they like they do.
- 26:40Speaker 3: Give the black on black what like I wonder aware.
- 26:43Speaker 6: Of what's happening here moment, Like I.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Want to know what you thought, John, because to me,
- 26:48Speaker 1: John moves like a life stin military man regardless like
- 26:53Speaker 1: that he's and if you're on light sin he moves
- 26:56Speaker 1: like a military man where it's like race is irrelevant
- 26:59Speaker 1: to John, I don't like That's what I'm saying. I
- 27:01Speaker 1: don't know what movements he was making that and how
- 27:05Speaker 1: people reacted to him.
- 27:06Speaker 6: The cop like the cup is one thing.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Well the cop reacted to him is once again John
- 27:10Speaker 1: is a military man who is flexing military and green
- 27:14Speaker 1: lantern on the.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Skop and the comp is clearly not white, like he's
- 27:17Speaker 2: like he's not white's white?
- 27:19Speaker 3: So there was that So I thought I didn't refuel.
- 27:21Speaker 1: I thought they were, you know, moving within the realms
- 27:24Speaker 1: of race pretty well, you know, so far.
- 27:27Speaker 5: My question is like, just how much are they going
- 27:28Speaker 5: to do about.
- 27:29Speaker 1: They they're going to go hard Watchman. You remember Damon
- 27:33Speaker 1: comes off of Watchmen, and we know how hard that went.
- 27:36Speaker 4: Because and the reason the other reason why because obviously
- 27:39Speaker 4: like that's a factor, and they're using it as a
- 27:41Speaker 4: device as they tell a story. And also they taken
- 27:44Speaker 4: it to another step because when you start getting the
- 27:46Speaker 4: way you're making where it's like he's seeing the usual
- 27:49Speaker 4: party lines about what people and you know, the stereotypical
- 27:52Speaker 4: people in roll spaces we're talking about, but he means
- 27:54Speaker 4: it on an alien level. He says when he talks about, oh, well,
- 27:58Speaker 4: you know, I'm here to make sure people who weren't
- 28:00Speaker 4: born here, you know, not out here doing that function.
- 28:02Speaker 4: And it's just like, okay, now we're on another level
- 28:05Speaker 4: of you know, we're on some extraterrestrial type racist right
- 28:07Speaker 4: and and terrorism?
- 28:09Speaker 5: And is it that?
- 28:10Speaker 4: So I just I just think it's interesting how they're
- 28:12Speaker 4: playing with the usage of this.
- 28:15Speaker 1: But you also see the William Macon's whole crew is
- 28:17Speaker 1: white correct not. You know, it's it's like we say
- 28:21Speaker 1: double on tendras. It's not just he's talking about aliens.
- 28:24Speaker 1: He talked about you know everything. He is definitely a
- 28:25Speaker 1: white supremacist. And when you talk about Green Lantern in general,
- 28:30Speaker 1: Green Lantern and Green Arrow, like I talk about the
- 28:32Speaker 1: run I came up on the most famous run of
- 28:34Speaker 1: green Land and ever is the dinnis O'Neil.
- 28:37Speaker 3: I want to say, it's writer Neil Adams run.
- 28:40Speaker 1: And there's a famous panel we can put it up
- 28:41Speaker 1: on the show right now where a black man comes
- 28:45Speaker 1: up to green Land and it's like, I see on
- 28:46Speaker 1: the news you've done things for the purple stins, the
- 28:49Speaker 1: blue skins, and his stins, what up about the black skins?
- 28:52Speaker 1: And Green Lantern can only hold his head in shame.
- 28:55Speaker 1: And it starts this whole run where Green Arrow, who
- 28:57Speaker 1: Green Arrow is always a socialist character, that's thing. He
- 29:01Speaker 1: starts influencing Green Lantern and it's like they start doing
- 29:04Speaker 1: things in it. So Green Lantern has always been about
- 29:07Speaker 1: you know, raised class struggle, things of that nature. So
- 29:11Speaker 1: if you're gonna do a Lantern show, you're gonna have
- 29:13Speaker 1: to get into that, especially because John Stewart's one of
- 29:16Speaker 1: the original black characters who replace as a white character,
- 29:19Speaker 1: like how Roads, you know, Jim Roads eventually places Tony Stark,
- 29:23Speaker 1: Like he's there. I think John is the originator, at
- 29:26Speaker 1: least in the modern era of that phenomenon. So it's
- 29:29Speaker 1: always been there. And then once you know, John becomes
- 29:32Speaker 1: John had to deal with being a black Green Lanner,
- 29:34Speaker 1: you know. So that's always been a thing with Green
- 29:37Speaker 1: Lantern stories. And like I say, when I was reading it,
- 29:40Speaker 1: he was traveling through America and it was all about
- 29:42Speaker 1: seeing the real America, you know, and dealing with real
- 29:44Speaker 1: problems on the street.
- 29:45Speaker 3: So that's him.
- 29:47Speaker 4: Yeah, do you think this particular approach that they're doing
- 29:50Speaker 4: with Willionaire, like you just said that you think he's
- 29:52Speaker 4: a clearly a white supremacist. Is it that clear or
- 29:55Speaker 4: are they like again, is this the writing plane between
- 29:59Speaker 4: that line of about those types of people and how
- 30:02Speaker 4: they would, how they talk, and how they move versus
- 30:05Speaker 4: someone who's I don't know, human supremacists, right, only supremacists.
- 30:10Speaker 3: Like he's not white, you know, that's the thing.
- 30:13Speaker 1: So it's like it's definitely it's like it's the perfection,
- 30:17Speaker 1: you know, It's like I've got this woman of color because.
- 30:19Speaker 3: She's mine, you know. And then no, and it don't matter.
- 30:23Speaker 1: She could be black as hell, but it's like, this
- 30:24Speaker 1: is a good one, you know, this is the one
- 30:27Speaker 1: for me, So this is a good one. The rest
- 30:29Speaker 1: of y'all can go to hell, you know. And that's
- 30:31Speaker 1: just how they add it's how he talks the errin,
- 30:34Speaker 1: you know. It's like he talks the erin like.
- 30:36Speaker 2: But there's layers to that, and that's that's the whole
- 30:40Speaker 2: thing I think from this episode, because like thinking about
- 30:43Speaker 2: how the writers are setting us up to think about
- 30:45Speaker 2: the story and frame the story with bias that we're
- 30:47Speaker 2: supposed to like tak with us as we're going from
- 30:50Speaker 2: to scene. So we've seen him in this small town.
- 30:53Speaker 2: We've seen him in this bar where all the patrons
- 30:56Speaker 2: are mostly white. You look at the background, the foreground,
- 30:59Speaker 2: it's like only she's the only person of color you
- 31:01Speaker 2: really see in that room. So we're we've always seen
- 31:05Speaker 2: him on the interaction with the other only other person
- 31:07Speaker 2: of color we've seen so far in this town, who
- 31:09Speaker 2: was a cop who was trying to put him in
- 31:11Speaker 2: his place or whatever, do that cold kind of thing.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Then we see his first interaction with a woman of
- 31:16Speaker 2: color in this town being her, and then we go
- 31:21Speaker 2: to the actual scene with him on the ranch before
- 31:24Speaker 2: we even know that she's married to Homeboy, and we
- 31:27Speaker 2: think everything that he's doing to him is like simply
- 31:30Speaker 2: because he's racist, only to find out that he has
- 31:35Speaker 2: he slept with his wife and everybody knows that he
- 31:37Speaker 2: knows all within a day, like within hours, so she
- 31:41Speaker 2: must have told him.
- 31:42Speaker 6: They must have some kind of arrangement. Interesting.
- 31:44Speaker 2: Also, we know that she has got to be his
- 31:49Speaker 2: like second wife or something, because none of his kids
- 31:53Speaker 2: look any kind of mixed.
- 31:56Speaker 5: That's true, that's true.
- 31:57Speaker 4: And also I mean we also have to just point
- 31:59Speaker 4: to the eye obvious too of where they are there
- 32:01Speaker 4: in the middle of Nebraska, Nebraska, and not to say
- 32:04Speaker 4: that there's no black people there but or people of color,
- 32:07Speaker 4: but it's very limited. So it's not just that you're
- 32:10Speaker 4: only surrounding yourself with white people because you're doing that's
- 32:12Speaker 4: literally that's all that's there. So I think it's a
- 32:15Speaker 4: lot of nuances and layers.
- 32:16Speaker 6: That's the approaching anything.
- 32:18Speaker 3: Right.
- 32:19Speaker 1: This is also a little known fact I think Takana
- 32:22Speaker 1: knows since I was born in Chia and Wyoming and
- 32:24Speaker 1: lived there until I was like three or so, but
- 32:26Speaker 1: my parents and you know, lived there for years and
- 32:28Speaker 1: we visited, and I've driven all through those parts of America,
- 32:32Speaker 1: and it's nothing but white people for the most part,
- 32:34Speaker 1: right And Wyoming is that area is the biggest home.
- 32:38Speaker 1: Wyoming actually is the biggest home of militias in America.
- 32:41Speaker 1: You know, that is like the home of militia land.
- 32:44Speaker 1: So all those areas are filled with the type of people.
- 32:47Speaker 1: And while yeah, I don't think even in the beginning,
- 32:50Speaker 1: the stuff he's saying that Aaron or to John isn't
- 32:52Speaker 1: even racist to me when they first it's not.
- 32:54Speaker 3: It's more.
- 32:57Speaker 5: It's the undertone that you feel hard.
- 32:59Speaker 1: It's bad, but it's barbed in the I know who
- 33:02Speaker 1: you are and I'm plotting, like I said, in everything
- 33:08Speaker 1: that is happening in this first day is this man
- 33:11Speaker 1: is like, oh, he says it, y'all, didn't you know
- 33:14Speaker 1: look me up.
- 33:15Speaker 3: I already know everything about y'all.
- 33:17Speaker 5: And he said, you're going John, he said.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Being my wife over there, you're gonna.
- 33:21Speaker 4: He said, you're going into it, which is wild, that's
- 33:24Speaker 4: my personal gi But he said, you go into enemy
- 33:27Speaker 4: territory with a weapon, and you don't know your enemy.
- 33:29Speaker 6: Right like your enemy.
- 33:31Speaker 4: He he posites himself as an enemy from Jump Street,
- 33:35Speaker 4: understand And even though it's just set on the on
- 33:37Speaker 4: the on the slide, it's a reason for all of this,
- 33:40Speaker 4: and it's exactly what you That's how I feel been
- 33:42Speaker 4: that the man was just like I'm telling you, I'm
- 33:44Speaker 4: out here from my own express purpose. I did feel
- 33:47Speaker 4: that he probably sent his wife on purpose. I know
- 33:50Speaker 4: his wife is that lit that you know, I guess
- 33:52Speaker 4: if you're talking about in the town that she is
- 33:54Speaker 4: allowing work.
- 33:55Speaker 6: But she she's okay with being used.
- 33:58Speaker 5: For her right.
- 33:59Speaker 4: But they clearly have an arrangement and and and arrangement
- 34:02Speaker 4: both in the marriage and an arrangement in in what
- 34:04Speaker 4: the goals are. I don't know what the and the
- 34:06Speaker 4: end strategy, what the end result that they really want,
- 34:09Speaker 4: but it's clearly there are aligned that's one thing, like
- 34:11Speaker 4: you kind of know who you're married, and there's some
- 34:13Speaker 4: alignment there. So that that's just gonna be something that
- 34:17Speaker 4: we'll discover more of because it's gonna, you know, it's gonna,
- 34:19Speaker 4: it's gonna it's gonna develop more than what we're seeing.
- 34:22Speaker 4: But that's the beauty of well structured, well written shows.
- 34:25Speaker 4: So that's why I did really think that this was
- 34:28Speaker 4: so particularly strong because the characters, Yes, it's been I
- 34:30Speaker 4: mean you said, they are all thrown at you right away,
- 34:33Speaker 4: but then they give you a lot of information on
- 34:35Speaker 4: the characters in a very short period of time, and
- 34:39Speaker 4: just and I thank you for y'all like talking about
- 34:41Speaker 4: like the race aspect of and how they're gonna play
- 34:43Speaker 4: with it, because this is gonna be this is gonna
- 34:46Speaker 4: confuse a lot of people as they go forward, like
- 34:48Speaker 4: how that they're gonna well weave this into the story,
- 34:51Speaker 4: and then throwing the element of extraterrestrials because I think
- 34:55Speaker 4: I still think that is a very largely untapped area
- 34:58Speaker 4: when it comes to like what they say these types
- 35:02Speaker 4: of stories, when they talk about aliens invading planets, it's
- 35:06Speaker 4: interesting why how they weigh William Macon and who he
- 35:09Speaker 4: represents or the stereotype he represents. Talk about colonization. I
- 35:12Speaker 4: thought that was smart as hell because then that gives
- 35:15Speaker 4: you more of an understanding of the layer and the
- 35:18Speaker 4: nuances to how they're approaching this series.
- 35:20Speaker 6: I think when Ben was talking about living in Wyoming,
- 35:23Speaker 6: and like, the thing that hitting with me is that
- 35:25Speaker 6: like the these lands may may like have white folks
- 35:31Speaker 6: on them now, but they once were all indigenous lands.
- 35:34Speaker 2: And the thing that we if life were uncolonized life,
- 35:39Speaker 2: that's who would be right there to this day all
- 35:43Speaker 2: these places like that's and they're still there. They're still
- 35:45Speaker 2: but they're not in those same places that have taken
- 35:48Speaker 2: been taken by white occupation like a setlar cononialist colonialism.
- 35:51Speaker 6: That's what's happened.
- 35:52Speaker 2: So when Macon he that's why I think it's really
- 35:57Speaker 2: interesting whenever it comes to the idea of race and
- 36:00Speaker 2: standing of colonization, because what he's basically saying. The first
- 36:04Speaker 2: thing he says to how and John only come onto
- 36:07Speaker 2: the ranch is about how he recognizes.
- 36:10Speaker 6: He's like, this is once Sioux Land.
- 36:12Speaker 2: Before them, it was another tribe and now it's us.
- 36:17Speaker 2: And I'm just trying to make it so I'm not
- 36:19Speaker 2: the one that's gone, Like whenever the alien's going to colonize,
- 36:23Speaker 2: I've been highly aware that we're going to be next
- 36:26Speaker 2: up for the chopping block because this is where I occupy,
- 36:28Speaker 2: and I know the history of how people move whenever
- 36:30Speaker 2: they're ready to take something. And so it's again I'm
- 36:34Speaker 2: thinking about how the writers are setting this up, because
- 36:37Speaker 2: we just had a little moment with How talking about
- 36:42Speaker 2: how he got the livering and how he doesn't.
- 36:50Speaker 6: Well not even because this is before you, but like
- 36:52Speaker 6: how he.
- 36:54Speaker 2: Exists as a green lantern for a planet that is
- 36:57Speaker 2: just like one of thousands considered back like the core
- 37:03Speaker 2: does not actually like they never really had Earth on
- 37:05Speaker 2: his radar. He's like, how I got it is like different,
- 37:08Speaker 2: and we get that part later whenever he's talking.
- 37:11Speaker 6: To John's junior.
- 37:14Speaker 2: But it's interesting because it's like the thought process of
- 37:17Speaker 2: like this ranger making his whole thing is I've got it,
- 37:22Speaker 2: I got to defend it. Someone's gonna come for it.
- 37:25Speaker 2: And the only people who think he could take me
- 37:26Speaker 2: out of here is an alien. Like that's that shows
- 37:29Speaker 2: you the power of like white supremacy. He thinks the
- 37:31Speaker 2: only people who have the ability to take his ship
- 37:33Speaker 2: from him are aliens. Whereas How, who's actually lived and
- 37:38Speaker 2: been around other planets and has been like interdimensional and
- 37:41Speaker 2: has seen everything that's going on. He's like, we're backwater
- 37:44Speaker 2: to them. They don't actually care about what's going on here.
- 37:47Speaker 2: The fact, and I think the whenever he brings up
- 37:50Speaker 2: the politics, like think of what happened why they would
- 37:53Speaker 2: want someone from so far off the radar to come in.
- 37:58Speaker 2: And that's also another like idea that's a question mark
- 38:01Speaker 2: for me about like what's getting set up here, because
- 38:04Speaker 2: it's not just that there's like the planetary Earth America
- 38:10Speaker 2: side to all this that's happening that's playing out on screen,
- 38:13Speaker 2: but it's also like there are interplanetary politics happening, and
- 38:18Speaker 2: it's interrelated with.
- 38:19Speaker 6: Not only how being the one.
- 38:22Speaker 2: That was chosen for the lantern, but also the fact
- 38:24Speaker 2: that like his successor for this quadrant is another Earthling.
- 38:29Speaker 2: So it's just I think there's a lot going on
- 38:31Speaker 2: here that I'm like, I have questions about like our
- 38:33Speaker 2: mysteries to me where I'm like, what are we getting?
- 38:36Speaker 2: So they're happening, they're coinciding, they're parallel, and it might
- 38:39Speaker 2: have some kind of connection, and I'm just like picking
- 38:42Speaker 2: up the pieces as we go.
- 38:43Speaker 3: Are they parallel or parallax?
- 38:47Speaker 1: That's a easter Head for hal Jordan fans out there,
- 38:50Speaker 1: for Greenland or fans out there, And yeah, there's a
- 38:54Speaker 1: lot going on here, right. First of all, like the
- 38:57Speaker 1: idea that how was here ten years ago and set
- 38:59Speaker 1: it up where he knew that something could come back
- 39:03Speaker 1: here and it was necessary for him to leave a message.
- 39:06Speaker 1: When this man never updates his you know AI think
- 39:12Speaker 1: updates his white avatar. He just leaves the same as
- 39:15Speaker 1: it always was, but that he made a note of.
- 39:19Speaker 1: And also the idea that William Macon is someone who's
- 39:22Speaker 1: been here long enough where he was there ten years
- 39:25Speaker 1: ago when whatever happened with Hal, so he also knows
- 39:28Speaker 1: about you know, whatever it is is, and his family's
- 39:30Speaker 1: powerful enough to have that influence where he's definitely worried
- 39:34Speaker 1: about it. And that's another thing, like even though we
- 39:36Speaker 1: do see his prove being mostly white, Porch, I think
- 39:38Speaker 1: you're right, like maybe he isn't racist because he really
- 39:41Speaker 1: approaches it, not even from a white premiseside like he
- 39:44Speaker 1: says the kilo will I think thee.
- 39:48Speaker 3: Yeah, and he doesn't. It's a matter of fact to him.
- 39:51Speaker 1: It's not about It's just like, look because once them,
- 39:54Speaker 1: then they took it, then we took it.
- 39:56Speaker 3: It just is what it is.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Somebody more powerful is always coming to take your it.
- 40:00Speaker 1: And since I've seen aliens, I know that they are
- 40:03Speaker 1: way more powerful than us.
- 40:05Speaker 3: That.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Yeah, once you revealed yourself to the world, you know,
- 40:08Speaker 1: we knew instantly that we are low on the totem poles,
- 40:11Speaker 1: so that it's just trying to matter affect them.
- 40:13Speaker 4: So yeah, and that's what why I asked, why, like,
- 40:17Speaker 4: are you sure it's a white supremaciy thing and not
- 40:19Speaker 4: just a like Earth supremacies type thing, because like.
- 40:22Speaker 1: I think it was white and then it becomes Earth
- 40:24Speaker 1: when the you know, he's like, oh, now it's just
- 40:26Speaker 1: like white you know, just like white supremacis is like
- 40:28Speaker 1: you know, they hate everyone until they need them.
- 40:33Speaker 3: Somebody else. You know, we hated the Irish, Now we
- 40:35Speaker 3: need y'all.
- 40:36Speaker 1: You know, we need y'all Asians, you know. Yeah, because
- 40:45Speaker 1: because they cannot the intertwining and them will always produce
- 40:50Speaker 1: a black child.
- 40:51Speaker 3: And that is where it loses it for them.
- 40:53Speaker 1: You know, that is where the fear of a black
- 40:56Speaker 1: planet comes in, as public Enemy said, because you know
- 40:59Speaker 1: they cannot have that.
- 41:00Speaker 3: But when they you know, a white.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Person an Asian person, you get enough generations, the kids
- 41:04Speaker 1: start looking white, so they can deal with that. So
- 41:06Speaker 1: now they're using Asians to bolster their range, you know,
- 41:09Speaker 1: before Asians off limits, but we need y'all. Now, you
- 41:12Speaker 1: know lfstin Mexican, y'all can get down too. It's just
- 41:16Speaker 1: you know, but black sorry, you know, hatred you know.
- 41:25Speaker 6: See, I know many of a black and white couple.
- 41:29Speaker 3: Well, that's what I'm saying. We can get a few
- 41:30Speaker 3: of y'all.
- 41:31Speaker 1: You know, if you're willing to give up everything, you know,
- 41:34Speaker 1: we will take you in, you know, if you're willing
- 41:37Speaker 1: to you know, not too much on that, yeah, I mean,
- 41:41Speaker 1: we got to give it all up, and you know
- 41:42Speaker 1: you got to hate everything else, you know, But not
- 41:46Speaker 1: too many of y'all.
- 41:47Speaker 3: You know, let's not get in twisted, you know what
- 41:49Speaker 3: I mean.
- 41:50Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 41:52Speaker 4: The other part of like when they talk about when
- 41:54Speaker 4: you talk about the intricacies of the character development of
- 41:56Speaker 4: at least in this first episode. Also How himself you
- 41:59Speaker 4: mentioned his avatar consciousness coming out and being very different
- 42:04Speaker 4: from the one we see now.
- 42:05Speaker 5: Even though this is all this is in the past.
- 42:07Speaker 2: Can we talk about the timeline because that's what I'm Yeah,
- 42:10Speaker 2: because this twenty nineteen ninety six is the year that
- 42:14Speaker 2: we see in the first scene when when John Junior's
- 42:18Speaker 2: young and How is just announcing it just through his
- 42:22Speaker 2: first interview is Green Lantern.
- 42:23Speaker 5: Ever revealing himself twenty years later?
- 42:27Speaker 6: It's a time jump.
- 42:28Speaker 2: We see twenty sixteen, twenty sixteen where how how John
- 42:32Speaker 2: Junior is in the boxing gym comes out. He meets
- 42:35Speaker 2: up with Hal in a car, right, they take that
- 42:37Speaker 2: road trip, they get up the road trip up the
- 42:40Speaker 2: mountain or whatever. And whenever he's walking back from the
- 42:45Speaker 2: car wreck, that's whenever he encounters the ring version of
- 42:50Speaker 2: how said the last update was apparently ten years ago.
- 42:55Speaker 2: Here's my two thousand and six. Okay, but here's my question.
- 43:01Speaker 2: How would that work? Because only your future self could
- 43:05Speaker 2: know that it's hailing in Nebraska. Your past self would
- 43:10Speaker 2: not know that you're because like, how does he know
- 43:14Speaker 2: that on this date in twenty sixteen he needs to
- 43:17Speaker 2: go to Nebraska.
- 43:19Speaker 5: I don't know what was was it?
- 43:21Speaker 3: Oh?
- 43:21Speaker 5: I hear what you're saying, like why did the avatar
- 43:22Speaker 5: come out right then and there? Specific?
- 43:24Speaker 2: But he said it's hailing and that meant that the
- 43:27Speaker 2: aliens are out, and he went in twenty sixteen to go.
- 43:32Speaker 2: That's whenever we encounter the I don't know what the
- 43:34Speaker 2: DC version of scrolls are, but like we go and
- 43:37Speaker 2: find those and if he said, apparently this like nineteen
- 43:40Speaker 2: different ones. So I'm sorry, but I'm gonna call them
- 43:41Speaker 2: DC scrolls and so whatever.
- 43:43Speaker 1: There's Darlin's are the ones who are like scrolls, who
- 43:46Speaker 1: can like and they actually have antenna. So I think
- 43:48Speaker 1: that was a reference to them, because.
- 43:49Speaker 5: D yeah, yeah, Well, let me ask for one party.
- 43:53Speaker 4: Let me answer one part of your question, and then
- 43:55Speaker 4: clarify get more clarity on your second party question. So
- 43:57Speaker 4: one part of question is it's been mentioned it earlier,
- 44:00Speaker 4: like one guy was that guy when how was out there?
- 44:04Speaker 4: Because How was in Nebraska right in the two thousand
- 44:07Speaker 4: and six timing. He was out there and knew some
- 44:10Speaker 4: shit was happening and made essentially made a bookmark for himself.
- 44:14Speaker 2: But that's okay, But but it's not true because he
- 44:18Speaker 2: got his powers in ninety six. He said that's where
- 44:20Speaker 2: the thing land where the plane landed was in ninety six.
- 44:23Speaker 3: No, those aren't two.
- 44:25Speaker 5: Those are two separate, different things, two separate incidents.
- 44:29Speaker 1: The plane lands in ninety six, and that's and before
- 44:33Speaker 1: ninety six, the plane lands because I mean the aliens.
- 44:35Speaker 4: And the interviews acer crashes before before in nineteen eighty
- 44:39Speaker 4: six is when Abancar crashes, and that's when the ring
- 44:43Speaker 4: ends up with how nineteen eighty six and two thousand
- 44:47Speaker 4: and six is when nice How makes the the future
- 44:52Speaker 4: message to himself about the hail in Nebraska because it's
- 44:55Speaker 4: at that time there, And I want to be clear
- 44:57Speaker 4: to you, those are two separate things, like the abb
- 45:00Speaker 4: Stir crashing.
- 45:00Speaker 5: Is it's clearly way before that.
- 45:02Speaker 3: There's something also related to whatever related.
- 45:05Speaker 4: Yeah, and there's something happening in two thousand and six
- 45:08Speaker 4: or something that How susses out or sees or whatever
- 45:12Speaker 4: that he leaves essentially leaves a bookmark for him.
- 45:14Speaker 1: Yeah, And it's not that he's it's not that he's
- 45:16Speaker 1: telepathic or sees the future.
- 45:18Speaker 3: He's leaving something that says.
- 45:19Speaker 1: When aliens pop up here, you need to go check
- 45:22Speaker 1: this out alien cens or whatever he needs you know.
- 45:26Speaker 4: So that's so that's answers the first part question. The
- 45:28Speaker 4: second party of question, which I believe was part question,
- 45:30Speaker 4: is how how did it happen that the Hollgren came
- 45:34Speaker 4: out exactly ten years later?
- 45:36Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 45:38Speaker 4: I don't know if it was timer, I don't know
- 45:39Speaker 4: if it just happens and I don't know if it
- 45:41Speaker 4: was plot armor, who knows, but I can't.
- 45:44Speaker 5: I don't think I can. I don't understand that.
- 45:47Speaker 1: I only think it has to be aliens. I think
- 45:49Speaker 1: he just sets up if anything crazy happens in the time,
- 45:51Speaker 1: you need to come check it out right.
- 45:52Speaker 4: And remember the thing that'd say, well, if someone else
- 45:55Speaker 4: was wearing this, like didn't it in the said yeah.
- 46:00Speaker 5: How ground is like who are you?
- 46:01Speaker 4: You must be that like if it was a different
- 46:03Speaker 4: energy signature, who knows, maybe different It triggers the ring
- 46:06Speaker 4: to reveal the message. And then it just so happened
- 46:09Speaker 4: in you know, plot time that it happened to be
- 46:11Speaker 4: ten years later exactly when he was supposed to go.
- 46:14Speaker 6: Now the sensor thing like that was my questions.
- 46:16Speaker 5: I'm like, how did it pop out?
- 46:19Speaker 6: And how would you know? How would you pop up?
- 46:21Speaker 2: But if it's like he has a flag for activity
- 46:24Speaker 2: to be set up at that time and then he
- 46:25Speaker 2: just like it's like that's the alert, Like what happens.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Basically, yeah, I would just set up like if something
- 46:32Speaker 1: crazy happens in this town, you know, trigger me or
- 46:35Speaker 1: my Yeah, it.
- 46:36Speaker 5: Could be that. I thought it was the trigger on
- 46:37Speaker 5: the ring itself.
- 46:38Speaker 4: Ring sensing that it's not how wearing it for a
- 46:41Speaker 4: certain amount of time, this this you know, this this
- 46:44Speaker 4: fail safe needs to pop out and say something.
- 46:46Speaker 1: So I think it was more like the mass shooting
- 46:48Speaker 1: happens and that's like okay, that right, and maybe.
- 46:51Speaker 5: That triggered it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 46:54Speaker 1: You know, if I knew there were aliens in a
- 46:55Speaker 1: town and then a mass shooting happens there, I'm gonna
- 46:58Speaker 1: go check it out the flats.
- 47:01Speaker 4: And what I was about to say about how and
- 47:04Speaker 4: like the fact that that Halgrim is very much different
- 47:06Speaker 4: than the version that we see. I would love to know,
- 47:09Speaker 4: and they're going to touch on it for sure, like
- 47:10Speaker 4: what in that ten year period happened like specifically, like
- 47:14Speaker 4: we know like that that's a very weathered how that
- 47:16Speaker 4: we see now, the very weathered how both emotionally and physically,
- 47:20Speaker 4: but like what exactly happened to him specifically? It definitely
- 47:23Speaker 4: has something to do with love, definitely has something to
- 47:24Speaker 4: do with family, definitely has something to do with an
- 47:28Speaker 4: item that really rocked him to his core to like
- 47:32Speaker 4: turn out the way he is very like beyond jaded
- 47:34Speaker 4: to the fact that even the aliens like looks like you,
- 47:36Speaker 4: it's like you almost want to die, like you want
- 47:38Speaker 4: this to happen. He how is the type now that
- 47:41Speaker 4: he's putting himself in harms way, whether for his game,
- 47:44Speaker 4: like when he decides he's going to get beat up,
- 47:46Speaker 4: to get put in jail, smart but not smart ideas
- 47:50Speaker 4: you know, to go talk to the alien, but the
- 47:52Speaker 4: fact that he doesn't even care about his personal self.
- 47:54Speaker 4: You could tell when even the beginning the test that
- 47:56Speaker 4: he gave to John Stewart about jumping out the car
- 48:00Speaker 4: and letting that happen, like he don't give a fuck
- 48:02Speaker 4: about himself. Specifically, he barely respects himself. So what happened
- 48:07Speaker 4: in those ten years?
- 48:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think it's I'm just gonna say, I
- 48:10Speaker 2: think it's interesting that the we talk about the ring trigger.
- 48:14Speaker 2: But also I feels like he's triggered by the word
- 48:16Speaker 2: retirement specifically whenever, like he's talking to John, he's like,
- 48:20Speaker 2: they're trying to put me in a retirement. And like
- 48:22Speaker 2: when whenever he talks about that he goes somewhere he does.
- 48:28Speaker 4: I also that's a capitalization moment as well, because as
- 48:32Speaker 4: much as how maybe over it and ready to go,
- 48:35Speaker 4: he's also never gonna let nobody take that. And I
- 48:37Speaker 4: think they even said as much like he would Oh,
- 48:39Speaker 4: they said that at the after show that he still
- 48:41Speaker 4: will never let anybody take that ring, Like that's still
- 48:44Speaker 4: his identity at the end of the day, is the
- 48:46Speaker 4: only thing that he has that he literally, in figurative
- 48:49Speaker 4: he has a grasp on.
- 48:50Speaker 5: So that is going to come into play too.
- 48:53Speaker 4: Like, as you said, like the whole retiming thing, it's
- 48:55Speaker 4: just like, Okay, well if it's my choice is one thing.
- 48:57Speaker 5: But even by choice, he's still will always be a.
- 49:00Speaker 4: Lantern in his head and he can't take that from him.
- 49:04Speaker 1: And yeah, no, he trying to kill himself three times,
- 49:07Speaker 1: three four times. Yeah, could definitely rolling out the car,
- 49:09Speaker 1: you know. And it's a couple of things where it's
- 49:12Speaker 1: like we're we have to deal with movie logic, because
- 49:14Speaker 1: rowing out a car at any speed over like twenty.
- 49:16Speaker 3: Mile hour is death.
- 49:18Speaker 1: Uh, getting your ass beating a bar by several men,
- 49:23Speaker 1: and having people breaking pools sticks across your back, Jenner
- 49:27Speaker 1: result in all kind of internal at the very least injury.
- 49:32Speaker 3: Yeah, you are not going to walk away from any
- 49:35Speaker 3: of this shit.
- 49:36Speaker 1: So you know, we're just dealing with that movie logic there,
- 49:38Speaker 1: because I was just like, all right, I get it, bam,
- 49:40Speaker 1: you know, even I mean the alien at least I
- 49:42Speaker 1: can account for it cause my man punched him and
- 49:44Speaker 1: then he dropped head to the concrete like that can
- 49:48Speaker 1: be death for people. Yeah, so you know, but we're
- 49:51Speaker 1: just dealing with that, you know, a little bit of
- 49:52Speaker 1: goofy movie logic there. But yeah, Hal's definitely suicidal. I
- 49:58Speaker 1: guess we already distrusted that John being a pure hole.
- 50:01Speaker 1: I do want to know what happened to his other
- 50:03Speaker 1: two brothers, because I'm not sure that's ever a thing
- 50:06Speaker 1: in the comics John having brothers or a family.
- 50:10Speaker 5: So that's song.
- 50:11Speaker 1: Yeah, John goes through it and the you know, like
- 50:14Speaker 1: most of these characters do in the comics. So we'll
- 50:16Speaker 1: see how it goes for him. I think that is
- 50:19Speaker 1: part of him, like the fact that he does sleep
- 50:21Speaker 1: with this woman like that is the fact that John
- 50:24Speaker 1: does not respect themselves either, And I don't know why though.
- 50:27Speaker 4: I have a question about well, I just figure he's
- 50:30Speaker 4: a man and y'all love to fuck anything, So it
- 50:33Speaker 4: is what it is.
- 50:35Speaker 2: I have a question about like the court is it?
- 50:37Speaker 2: What is the lantern core? Like what is the Is
- 50:39Speaker 2: it like an academy? What are they called.
- 50:44Speaker 3: Like it is?
- 50:45Speaker 1: It is a collection of the Green Landers there were
- 50:47Speaker 1: put together by the Guardians of the Universe. Who are
- 50:50Speaker 1: these little, big headed blue men. They're all men for
- 50:54Speaker 1: some reason. The women don't look like them. Long story short,
- 50:57Speaker 1: but yeah, they are these blue men who before and
- 51:00Speaker 1: this is that. See, the Manhunters are a group of
- 51:03Speaker 1: robots who the Guardians made before they had the Green
- 51:06Speaker 1: Lantern Corps, and the man Hunters were sent out to
- 51:10Speaker 1: you know, guard the universe. And the man Uners could
- 51:12Speaker 1: describe themselves as anyone so oh shit, I don't know, dude,
- 51:16Speaker 1: might be a manager. We'll get into that. So they
- 51:18Speaker 1: eventually rebelled against the Guardians and they deactivated them, and
- 51:23Speaker 1: then I think they you know, they come back at
- 51:25Speaker 1: various times to haunt the Guardians and you know, try
- 51:27Speaker 1: and do their evil plots whatever. But the Green Lantern
- 51:30Speaker 1: Corps were then established and each septor if we see
- 51:34Speaker 1: Sceptor two eight one four is the sceptor of the
- 51:37Speaker 1: universe that contains Earth. But that's a big ass sceptor
- 51:40Speaker 1: you know, that contains all kinds of other stuff as well.
- 51:42Speaker 1: So that's why normally the even the Sceptors Guardian isn't
- 51:45Speaker 1: an Earth being because Earth is not the Sceptors the backwater.
- 51:49Speaker 1: It's Earth is the backwater planet in this sept it's
- 51:52Speaker 1: pretty much also not even the biggest Sceptor. So they're
- 51:55Speaker 1: just various aliens from across the universe. There's a famous
- 51:59Speaker 1: one named Chip, who is a squirrel type alien who
- 52:02Speaker 1: has a green lantern. There is Mogo. Mogo is a
- 52:06Speaker 1: planet who is a green lantern. He's like a like ego,
- 52:09Speaker 1: he's like a living planet, but he's a giant planet
- 52:11Speaker 1: who's a green Lander.
- 52:12Speaker 3: There's just all type of them.
- 52:14Speaker 1: And then one interesting fact about him, like I really
- 52:17Speaker 1: loved how they did bring up the oath, how the
- 52:19Speaker 1: alien says the oath and it to even hear the oath.
- 52:24Speaker 1: The alien also brings up the lantern and how they
- 52:26Speaker 1: have to charge the rings every forty eight hours because
- 52:29Speaker 1: each green Lanner gets a lander to carry around. There's
- 52:32Speaker 1: a giant lanner on their home planet of yeah, and
- 52:37Speaker 1: that you have to juice your own landing there. But
- 52:39Speaker 1: you have to juice your own ring every forty It
- 52:42Speaker 1: used to be twenty four, I think, But I think
- 52:44Speaker 1: show they're doing forty eight hours or it'll run out of.
- 52:47Speaker 4: Power, corrects, and for the alien to know that, right,
- 52:49Speaker 4: the alien exactly don't know that.
- 52:52Speaker 1: Which leads me to think he's a man hunter and
- 52:55Speaker 1: that these are all man hunters, because that's what that
- 52:57Speaker 1: leads me to think, is that he's definitely a man
- 52:59Speaker 1: hunter because I don't.
- 53:00Speaker 3: Think they're going to go to the whole route.
- 53:01Speaker 1: I think the durling, which is a shout out and
- 53:03Speaker 1: all that, I don't think they're going to round it,
- 53:04Speaker 1: you know, having multiple different things.
- 53:06Speaker 3: I think this is a man hunter.
- 53:08Speaker 1: And then the other interesting uh Greenland or lore is
- 53:13Speaker 1: that when you die, like Avan Sawer was able to
- 53:16Speaker 1: give his ring to how the successor before he died
- 53:20Speaker 1: and normally like we see now that now they say that,
- 53:22Speaker 1: you know, they didn't have trainees before they you know
- 53:26Speaker 1: before and something happened where.
- 53:27Speaker 6: They had from the same place for the same sector.
- 53:30Speaker 1: Yes, where they had to be Okay, yeah, you're right.
- 53:33Speaker 1: So but the interesting is this is a more not
- 53:36Speaker 1: recent now, but when Jeff Johns, who is now thehead
- 53:39Speaker 1: of DC Comics, he did this green Land and rebirth
- 53:42Speaker 1: into two thousands where they you know, revitalized Greenland, and
- 53:45Speaker 1: it was a huge hit where a lot of the
- 53:46Speaker 1: stuff we know about green Landers and the lanterns or
- 53:50Speaker 1: the whole idea of like there being different colors of
- 53:52Speaker 1: lanterns trumps from that run. And we're gonna get into
- 53:55Speaker 1: that because there's even in the trailer there's this there's
- 53:58Speaker 1: a quick shot of this black orb in a white
- 54:01Speaker 1: room and the lights above the orb make it where
- 54:06Speaker 1: with the orb and the lights it's the symbol of
- 54:08Speaker 1: the Black Landers. So we're already seeing hints that we're
- 54:12Speaker 1: gonna see all the different spectrum of lanterns and everything.
- 54:16Speaker 1: But what another thing that Jeff Johnson Sabbath straying that
- 54:18Speaker 1: run is when the lantern is killed, their ring flies
- 54:21Speaker 1: off to the success, right, so it goes to the person.
- 54:25Speaker 5: That's what That's what I'm used to.
- 54:27Speaker 1: And okay, so you knew that, all right, So I'm
- 54:29Speaker 1: not sure they showed that another medium. Oh yeah, they
- 54:32Speaker 1: showed when that gets murdered, that's your flu off league, which.
- 54:36Speaker 4: Is why like this portray of John Stewart for me,
- 54:40Speaker 4: feels familiar, but it also feels like, as you said earlier,
- 54:42Speaker 4: a light skinned military guy like.
- 54:44Speaker 3: So's a little mixture of both.
- 54:46Speaker 4: You know, visually I see it, you know, some of
- 54:49Speaker 4: the stuff he's doing, but it's also like he's doing
- 54:51Speaker 4: some like I don't know. I always have this vision,
- 54:53Speaker 4: at least from Justice League, that John Stewart was this
- 54:56Speaker 4: really upstanding guy that wouldn't be you know, randomly fucking
- 54:59Speaker 4: girls on the side.
- 55:00Speaker 3: But he was over running around with Hawkwoman. That may
- 55:03Speaker 3: be a trifle on that show to did he have
- 55:06Speaker 3: a woman before Hawkwoman? Dude? That whole love triangle thing
- 55:09Speaker 3: with John.
- 55:09Speaker 4: He was older too, so he was older in the
- 55:13Speaker 4: animated series, so I don't know he'd been through.
- 55:16Speaker 1: Well, he was the John that we see later. You know,
- 55:18Speaker 1: might job be later, might not be, you know, you
- 55:21Speaker 1: go through stuff first.
- 55:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 55:24Speaker 2: So my question with the with the Landing Corps was like,
- 55:26Speaker 2: how do they give a stipend? Does he is he
- 55:28Speaker 2: on payrid?
- 55:29Speaker 3: That was my question because man, not it from wherever?
- 55:33Speaker 6: Because we don't know where.
- 55:34Speaker 2: Did they tell us where he was from the boxing
- 55:36Speaker 2: gym and they went up the mountain thing? I don't
- 55:37Speaker 2: know if they told us where he was he went
- 55:39Speaker 2: from there to happen to catch up when John who
- 55:42Speaker 2: just flew there like actively, So he's like when he
- 55:45Speaker 2: gets when he meets up with him in the town,
- 55:47Speaker 2: after he gotten on the airplane, after having gotten a
- 55:50Speaker 2: rental car and driven through all the snow, whatever you
- 55:52Speaker 2: get there, I'm like, did they give him a stipend
- 55:55Speaker 2: for a travel budget? Because like it's not like he's
- 55:58Speaker 2: like pulling up to like at first class on the plane.
- 56:01Speaker 2: It's not like he's like pulling up in like the biggest,
- 56:03Speaker 2: like the best.
- 56:03Speaker 6: Car on the lot. Like he's he's rolling up.
- 56:06Speaker 2: So I'm like, did he have to come out of
- 56:07Speaker 2: his pocket for probably white and rental and everything probably
- 56:11Speaker 2: catch up with.
- 56:11Speaker 5: This white That's that's part of the test. That's part
- 56:14Speaker 5: of the test.
- 56:14Speaker 4: And I did like that justice position of the house saying,
- 56:18Speaker 4: oh shit, some shit went down, I'm out and just
- 56:21Speaker 4: flying away versus now the mundane, you know approach that
- 56:24Speaker 4: John has a shape, which is pack your bags, get
- 56:27Speaker 4: on the plane, go through security.
- 56:28Speaker 5: Get the hurts rental.
- 56:29Speaker 4: Like that was that was funny, you know, just to
- 56:32Speaker 4: kind of show that, like in the beginning, what the
- 56:35Speaker 4: heuse saying, I'm just a regular guy. John's the regular
- 56:37Speaker 4: guy here, right, you can't just get up and go
- 56:39Speaker 4: fly he hasn't even been taught to fly, you know,
- 56:41Speaker 4: much of the chagrin of the Avatar, like you don't
- 56:45Speaker 4: know this shit yet, and it's just interesting to keep
- 56:48Speaker 4: They are going to really push this just position of
- 56:51Speaker 4: these two characters and how different they are and as
- 56:54Speaker 4: well as how much they're going to affect their journey
- 56:56Speaker 4: as they continue.
- 56:58Speaker 3: And we're starting to see Guy Gardner coming to this
- 57:00Speaker 3: equation and.
- 57:01Speaker 4: Guys all up and through the series. We watched the
- 57:03Speaker 4: end when they show the trailer for this season. There
- 57:06Speaker 4: he's up there, and I don't know if it's more
- 57:08Speaker 4: than one episode, but he's he's up and through there.
- 57:10Speaker 4: Sinestro's up and through there, Like it's gonna be a
- 57:13Speaker 4: lot going on for.
- 57:14Speaker 1: Those who don't know. Sinestro is how Jordan's mentor once
- 57:18Speaker 1: he becomes a green Land and he is the one
- 57:19Speaker 1: who trains him in the green Lander Core and eventually
- 57:23Speaker 1: rebels against the Greenland Core because he feels like the
- 57:25Speaker 1: Guardians are trashed and aren't doing their.
- 57:27Speaker 5: Job and his name is Neestro, so whi else would
- 57:30Speaker 5: he be, you know?
- 57:33Speaker 1: And yeah, and eventually forms the Sinestro Core, which uses
- 57:39Speaker 1: the Yellow Rings and are about using fear as their
- 57:43Speaker 1: weapon versus you know, the Guard versus the green Land
- 57:45Speaker 1: and which is based on will power.
- 57:47Speaker 4: Yeah, we are going to see John Stewart's mother actually, yes,
- 57:53Speaker 4: actually played by Nicole ri Parker Okay from Soulful Fame.
- 57:57Speaker 4: Mary Boards goes all that stuff. So they they are
- 58:00Speaker 4: showing her or this coming up as a recurring character.
- 58:03Speaker 4: So we're gonna see some more flashback, so we probably
- 58:06Speaker 4: will get that answer to what happened to the mother.
- 58:08Speaker 4: You know, Portion made that point earlier, like where there
- 58:10Speaker 4: no mom and households what's going on?
- 58:12Speaker 1: It's like when House says it on the screen. You know,
- 58:14Speaker 1: the biggest fear is losing your parent, and once that's done,
- 58:17Speaker 1: you know, nothing really matters. And then you come into
- 58:19Speaker 1: like Portion said, to a house or where there's no woman. Yeah,
- 58:22Speaker 1: so it's either divorce or something that is taking this
- 58:25Speaker 1: woman out this house, because the ain't no way she
- 58:27Speaker 1: lives in that house and letting this man shooting apples.
- 58:29Speaker 6: Off that air ain't no way.
- 58:32Speaker 2: I was going to say also that when it comes
- 58:35Speaker 2: to because I was just I was trying to think
- 58:38Speaker 2: through I couldn't remember the name of the show for
- 58:40Speaker 2: a second, but I did love that the fact that
- 58:41Speaker 2: we're seeing the back end of superhero life and not
- 58:45Speaker 2: just like they're disconnection with it, because I feel like
- 58:47Speaker 2: we've had so many different properties give us superheroes in
- 58:51Speaker 2: so many different ways in the past ten years alone,
- 58:54Speaker 2: but like twenty years especially, and even if when they
- 58:57Speaker 2: show us like the Powers who are like the older, tired,
- 59:01Speaker 2: weathered with the logan, or they give us like the
- 59:04Speaker 2: disenchanted all like off the wall like on The Boys
- 59:09Speaker 2: and all that kind of stuff. We've seen a lot
- 59:10Speaker 2: of different range advantage points of heroes, but there's been
- 59:13Speaker 2: very few times where we've seen like the damage control
- 59:16Speaker 2: or the COLLEI like the actual collect like the work
- 59:18Speaker 2: behind that. And so when I was watching the scenes
- 59:21Speaker 2: where John was going through and doing all the rental
- 59:24Speaker 2: and stuff, it reminded me of Powerless, which is like
- 59:26Speaker 2: a short lived TV show on NBC, and it's like
- 59:29Speaker 2: that's avengerge points. I want to hear from more of
- 59:31Speaker 2: the people who are on the regular Case. And so
- 59:34Speaker 2: Tatiana when we opened the show talking about how like
- 59:35Speaker 2: it's more like regular regular street level. The people who
- 59:38Speaker 2: were like talking coming up to John and like asking
- 59:41Speaker 2: him for autographs and stuff like that at the taco.
- 59:43Speaker 6: Stand that felt more like real then whenever.
- 59:48Speaker 2: They had like smart Hulk like in sitting down at
- 59:51Speaker 2: the table and like taking like selfies or whatever with kids,
- 59:54Speaker 2: like it was just it felt like the level of
- 59:57Speaker 2: conversation and when people were curious about him the way
- 59:59Speaker 2: that he doesn't like give them too much, but he
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: gives them enough to keep his like charm or whatever.
- 1:00:03Speaker 6: It's interesting.
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: And so whenever you're talking about like he doesn't have anyone,
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: Hall doesn't have anything that he cares about, I think
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: it's less that he doesn't have anything that he cares
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: about and more so that he retirement is scary. It
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: is looming to him because he doesn't think he has
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: anyone who cares about him. Like whoever he last felt
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: was in his corner for him or to live life
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: with for is no longer there, and he's scared at
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: the idea of having to start over like that just
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: seems like something he does not want to do.
- 1:00:35Speaker 6: So it's better to cling into what he's like already
- 1:00:38Speaker 6: part of.
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: And I think that's also my questions around like what's
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: going on in the Green Lantern core for the politics
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: of this all because like he seems weathered in a
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: way that it's not just emotional, it's also like you
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: don't know enough to be like you want this ring?
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: Really you think you want this ring? Okay, like because
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: like you not only like you haven't done what you
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: needs to do both like young boy to get here,
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: but it's more like, though what.
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: You're asking for, be careful what you're wishing for.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: And he's like trying to set the scene of like
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: there's more nuance to this than I can give you
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: right now. And it doesn't seem that John, because John
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: is so stuck in the like I just want to
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: get it kind of face of mind. He's not really
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: picking up on the kind of between the lines lesson.
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: That's why I was kind of like trying.
- 1:01:30Speaker 6: To feed him.
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: Yeah, and that's what I was mentioning is he's gonna
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: learn the grace and he's gonna learn it the hard way.
- 1:01:36Speaker 5: We're gonna definitely see that.
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: It just seems like that's the path he's always gonna
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: It's gonna be like the worst way possible, the worst,
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: you know, the most difficult. He's life on difficult right
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: now for sure. And one thing I wanted to say
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: as we were talking when I asked earlier about you know,
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: whether other black writers are people of color on the
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: writing team.
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: There are.
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: Justin Britt Gibson, who is a black man writer, and
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: Vanessa Baden, who you work with lindelof Damon on a
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: couple a couple of things, including like an unreleased Star
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: Wars film.
- 1:02:06Speaker 5: I don't know what's happening, but yeah, oh yeah, Damon.
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: Did work on Yeah, yeah, Star Wars for a second.
- 1:02:11Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:02:11Speaker 5: So at least so there's at least them there. I'm
- 1:02:13Speaker 5: sure there's more, but h.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: Yeah, no, Damon, like I said, after Watchmen and after
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: our interview, and you know, I've talked with him since then,
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: and you know, Damon's I don't like to say, one
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: of the good ones, but.
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: You gotta do nothing they do. He's one of the
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: He's added a good one, y'all. Like at least he tries.
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: I would say that Damon is one of the ones
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: who tries, you know, because most in Hollywood do not
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: try at all. And so I'll give Damon a lot
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: of credit for trying and for you know, as you
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: just work, not just trying, but for doing Watchmen. Damon
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: is always going to at least get the birth for
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: me where I'm going to give him, like all right,
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: let's see what he's working with. Because you know, you
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: put a black woman as God on screen, you know,
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: can never be that mad at you facts.
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: Is there anything else about this episode we wanted to
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: touch on or ask questions about, or like, you know,
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: we want to move on to just what our predictions
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: and understanding of the future of this series is.
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: It's eight episodes, Okay, I have one thing about John.
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: How in the ring, where it was funny to see
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: that it seemed that John John that How was a
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: little sad to hear what John's solution was of like
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: getting out of the car, Yeah, because.
- 1:03:25Speaker 5: It was unimaginative as fuck, bubble rap, Yeah, wait for
- 1:03:29Speaker 5: him to do like a hot well stress. But what
- 1:03:31Speaker 5: I took from that was like.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: He's he's viewing John from the standpoint of like he's
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: been out here, he's been in the universe. He's had
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: his imagination like exploded multiple times, from being like just
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: a normal human existence to like seeing all the possibilities
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: of what you can imagine for yourself in.
- 1:03:49Speaker 6: Like the universe.
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: So it's kind of like it's just How out of
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: touch he is to not recognize that, like John has
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: not been out there yet, his imagination is limited. And
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: so that's kind of in a way, it was a
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: test of like seeing where his baseline imagination is, and
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: his baseline imagination is bubble rap. But at the same time,
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: it's not like, how has a relation shown this like
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: anything crazy imaginative besides like the bubble to contain the explosion.
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: But I think that's gonna it's an interesting interaction between
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: characters where we're gonna see like the role of imagination
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: and like how the ring is only able to do
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: as much as the person powering it is able to
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: conceive of And I like that kind of dynamic in
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: a story.
- 1:04:37Speaker 5: And that's actually so a couple of things on that.
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: That's actually a big thing within the Green Lantern story
- 1:04:42Speaker 4: about what your what your mind can perceive, what is
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: your level of imagination, and to what you decide to
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: manifest from the ring. That's actually that ends up being
- 1:04:50Speaker 4: plot points for a lot of stories. That ends up
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: being a lot of things about the relationships between characters,
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: so that that's actually a thing for So that's on
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: purpose that John's thought was bubble wrap, you know, it's
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: such a limited thing.
- 1:05:01Speaker 5: It's also to express where he is as a character.
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:05:04Speaker 4: I made a joke about the Hot Wheels track that
- 1:05:06Speaker 4: was actually a reference to Ryan Reynolds being green lanyard
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: and that terrible version of the movie. But that being said,
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: it just shows you where he's at now. Remember I
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: said he's a very black and white person, right, very
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: And this is not even notwithstanding not seeing the universe,
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: forget seeing in the universe, just as a human being
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: in life. You didn't think of anything else, but oh,
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: I'm just gonna surround myself in bubble rep And it
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: just shows like he's limited in mindset right now.
- 1:05:29Speaker 5: Right, he hasn't explored.
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: And when we talk about this whole mentor mentee training
- 1:05:34Speaker 4: that's happening, it's more than just obviously, it's more than
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: just the physical. It's more than just I'm gonna teach
- 1:05:38Speaker 4: you to fly. It's how you think and how you're
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: able to see past what's in front of you. How
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: you're able to see the you know, the see the
- 1:05:46Speaker 4: trees and see the forest and see everything under the trees. Right,
- 1:05:49Speaker 4: how you're able to see the whole picture and what
- 1:05:51Speaker 4: could be the picture that's really one of the main
- 1:05:54Speaker 4: things that Hall is trying to teach John as we
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: as you will continue to see like it's real, how
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: do you look beyond what's right in front of you
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: and how do you then use that and not just
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: imagination but use your abilities to see what the truth is.
- 1:06:10Speaker 4: And that's also another thing when it comes to Green
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: answer is being able to see the truth right seeing using.
- 1:06:15Speaker 5: The light to see what is real, what is good,
- 1:06:19Speaker 5: all this other stuff.
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: So it's a lot of analogies that come along with it,
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: but that is very much on purpose.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: And it's also like John is military, so he's doing
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: to do it for the easiest solution. You know what
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: words bubble wrap and but yeah, it definitely that is
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: like todd I understanding that becomes especially in the Jeff
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: Johns later in the whole Rebirth run where it's every
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: Green man and you start seeing it how they manifested.
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: John actually does a lot of military stuff, a lot
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: of guns will manifest, former comrades and stuff like that,
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: and then someone like what's the next one after him?
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: He's an artist, etc. And more like a manga person,
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: so he starts, you know, doing big giant Mecca and
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: all that stuff with his right. Wow, how Jordan, you
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: know we've seen Guy Garder doing middle fingers.
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: And things of that.
- 1:07:10Speaker 5: Yeah, because he's a dickhead, that's what.
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, so it is you know there it is
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: a very personable thing to eat lantern. Yeah, they're constructs,
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: as they're called.
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: Anything else on this episode or just thoughts on what's
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: coming up, Like I'm I'm actually really excited to see
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: more Nate Fillion as Guy Dinner because I just love
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: his portrayal of the character.
- 1:07:30Speaker 5: I like Nate as a as an actor.
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: I am interested in seeing like this dynamic and this
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: layered nuance of you know, the related like race racism,
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: you know, extraterrestrials and aliens and actual literal racism versus
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: like human racism, right, and you know who gets to
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: say who doesn't? And and of course like the one
- 1:07:51Speaker 4: that's right in front of you know, the whole conspiracy
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: theory and the mystery with the makings you know, both
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: the husband and wife and then what they're plotting, what
- 1:08:00Speaker 4: they're planning, and on that note, what.
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: Happened to the making ranch in between? Right when we
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: say that we see at the end, Yeah, at the end.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: That's the making ranches, tore down, burnt down, whatever. When
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: you first wrought the jail too.
- 1:08:14Speaker 5: Because I thought it was I thought it was a
- 1:08:16Speaker 5: town the jail, But yeah, I think that's the ranch.
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: The second time I watched it, it seemed like the
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: lead up to the ranch is that's what's Yeah, that's
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: the road into the ranch.
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: Because I thought of the same thing as you. I
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: thought first I thought it was a football field, but then.
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: They rolled up to the football field right, and then
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: I was like, and then they showed this WaterTower souse,
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: like maybe it's the WaterTower. But then when I was
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: bload watching, I'm like, that's gotta be the ranch because
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: it's on the outskirts of town and that's where that
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: would be, so I would think that's the ranch because
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: obviously something's going to go down at this ranch.
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, I think the season preview like for
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: me because like I get I love a mystery, so
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: like again, hook me in, you got me. So the
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: season preview gave me a moment to under question like
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: why is why are we spending time during this season
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: In twenty sixteen, focusing on John's pursuit of the ring
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: when we know that house still has it in twenty
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: twenty six. So there's a reason why we're spending a
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: lot of time throughout this season watching twenty sixteen timeline
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: while they're in Nebraska, and the fact that John very
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: direly wants to have this ringing things he should have
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: at this moment, but we know he doesn't even have
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: it ten years later, or does he.
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: Does he or does he have his own or does
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: he have his own ring tenure.
- 1:09:31Speaker 6: We don't see any rings on his hand when he's touching.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: It's just a fact that does not mean he doesn't
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: have a ring. And in twenty twenty six, it's in
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: the current time line where he's going to appear in
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: Man of Tomorrow, presumably as Green Lantern and John how God,
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: at some points all have their own rings, and they're
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: all green there.
- 1:09:51Speaker 5: I mean, he's going to have something.
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: They there's a clip in the season preview trailer where
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: they show him holding a lantern lantern. Yeah, so something's
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: gonna have something. A ring's gonna is gonna pop off.
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: So but eventually they do all have ring, so the
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: possibility could beat it. You know, he has his own
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: ring in that last.
- 1:10:09Speaker 5: Right, and it's just the version of Guy that does
- 1:10:11Speaker 5: have the ring already in.
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: Twenty twenty six, Guy, it depends on him. I don't
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: know when they meet him. I don't know when they
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: meet him, and that's you know what this is for.
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: Who knows, We'll see.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: Yeah, But like I said in the comments, Guy for
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: a long time hated how because he always felt that
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: he deserved a ring, and how it's just his replacement
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: and it was only because he was inoperative.
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: And when I was a kid, Guy was my savor.
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: I love me my guard. He's such a dick.
- 1:10:36Speaker 4: I do like the the landscape that they're using of
- 1:10:39Speaker 4: the different years, because it can get dicey if you
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: don't do it really well. But so far they seem
- 1:10:45Speaker 4: to be very precise in how they're doing it, and
- 1:10:47Speaker 4: I think it just helps. It helps the it's a
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: really good, cool literary device that it helps you understand,
- 1:10:53Speaker 4: like the motivations. And again, as I said, what happened
- 1:10:57Speaker 4: in those ten years when it went from happy, happy
- 1:11:00Speaker 4: out to you know, horrendous?
- 1:11:01Speaker 5: How like what occurred?
- 1:11:03Speaker 4: Like something terrible, deeply terrible happened. So I don't know,
- 1:11:08Speaker 4: but I do like that they're using that and that
- 1:11:09Speaker 4: we're gonna get this. We're gonna apparently be going back
- 1:11:12Speaker 4: and forth between the years.
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: All right, well, I think.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: That's it for our review of pilot, the first episode
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: or the first season of Lanterns. Thank you very much
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: for joining us out on HBO Max. We'll be back
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: every week to view this. You know, like we said,
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: it seems like it's hit. Seems like everybody loving it,
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: you know, perfect timing for HBO to drop it immediately
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: after House of Dragons, you know, immediately so people are like, oh,
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: I need something on Sunday night and boom, there you go.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: And also for this to be a gritty, grounded show
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: where it's not like because my neighbor he was asking me,
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: He's like, yo, I need He's wanted to watch it,
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: but he wasn't sure if he needed to see something
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: before this, you know, he wasn't He's like, yo, I
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: want to see this. I'm interested, but I don't know
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: if I need to see Superman or whatever other than not.
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: But you don't need to see anything just to jump off.
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: And he's like, but I want to see how he
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: gets the ring and all that. So I'm like they're
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: gonna show you all that, don't worry about it, and
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: show you everything. So I think it's getting you know,
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: just everyone, not just like the ultra nerds or the
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: people who we know are gonna watch. I think this
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: is gonna reach across and become a bigger show, like
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: like a house maybe not a House of Dragon geting
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: Thrones level, but definitely more than what you would think.
- 1:12:17Speaker 5: That's the capability of being capability.
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: It does, It definitely does. Yeah, so we shall see.
