- 0:30Speaker 2: It is time to leave your worries outside and laugh
- 0:34Speaker 2: with us inside the Treehouse. I'm Daniel Malley along with
- 0:37Speaker 2: Trey Trendholm.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Today.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Speaking of today, we will start with how to spot
- 0:47Speaker 2: an arsonist. A woman was arrested for stabbing a fire
- 0:51Speaker 2: hose while Dallas firefighters battled flames. It's not the traditional
- 0:58Speaker 2: way to spot an arsenist, but it is the new
- 1:00Speaker 2: version and I think it well. If I may beat
- 1:04Speaker 2: a pun it holds water.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Yeah. The woman is facing criminal mischief charges yes, and
- 1:13Speaker 2: first degree arson according to Dallas Fire Rescue, who got
- 1:17Speaker 2: more than they bargained for when they responded to this fire.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Dallas police arrested a woman early Friday morning for stabbing
- 1:23Speaker 2: a fire hose while Dallas firefighters were responding to a
- 1:27Speaker 2: house fire. The blade started just before one am, when
- 1:32Speaker 2: all good house fires get started at a house on
- 1:36Speaker 2: Prosperity Avenue in South Dallas. And that will never not
- 1:40Speaker 2: be ironic to me. Prosperity Avenue the name Prosperity Avenue
- 1:46Speaker 2: in South Dallas.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Anyway.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Investigators determined that someone used an unknown heat source to
- 1:51Speaker 2: ignite combustibles in a corner room in the front of
- 1:53Speaker 2: the house. The fire was declared extinguished at one thirty
- 1:56Speaker 2: five am. While Dallas Fire Rescue was extinguishing the fire,
- 2:00Speaker 2: Jemishia Denise Murphy, a thirty seven year old woman from Dallas,
- 2:04Speaker 2: allegedly took a knife to one of the fire hoses
- 2:06Speaker 2: in an attempt to prevent their efforts. She's also believed
- 2:10Speaker 2: to have started the fire. That's some excellent investigative work
- 2:13Speaker 2: right there. That's according to multiple people on scene who
- 2:16Speaker 2: witnessed her admitting to setting the fire as she stabbed
- 2:19Speaker 2: the fire hose. That's got to be one of the
- 2:23Speaker 2: most entertaining admissions of guilt I have ever heard. I
- 2:27Speaker 2: did it, and I'm currently doing it more.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Yeah, that's h and you know, pardon the pun, but
- 2:37Speaker 1: I believe the prosecution will be able to poke holes
- 2:40Speaker 1: in the defense whatever it is.
- 2:43Speaker 2: I'm proud of you. You one up my terrible pun
- 2:45Speaker 2: from earlier.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:47Speaker 2: She was later placed under arrest at the scene and
- 2:50Speaker 2: charged with criminal mischief. A charge of first degree arson
- 2:53Speaker 2: will be added to that. According to Dallas Fire Rescue.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Oh Man, that's one of those times where if you're
- 3:01Speaker 2: you're the firefighters, you're like, come on, really. Also, there's
- 3:09Speaker 2: no mention about the owner of the house why she
- 3:12Speaker 2: started the fire, if anyone inside the house was injured
- 3:15Speaker 2: or not, because clearly she had a reason to do this,
- 3:18Speaker 2: and I'm assuming it's because there's you know, she's a
- 3:21Speaker 2: jilted lover and there's some man inside that house that
- 3:24Speaker 2: she is really pissed at.
- 3:27Speaker 1: That are insurance fraud.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Either way, she is really mad at that house or
- 3:35Speaker 2: somebody in it. Something happened, Like, even if it's for
- 3:40Speaker 2: the insurance claim, I don't think in an insurance fraud situation,
- 3:45Speaker 2: you stab the fire hose while the firefighters are battling
- 3:49Speaker 2: the flames while screaming I did it.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Yeah, you would at least think, you know, because from
- 3:58Speaker 1: what I read, she stabbed the hose multiple times and
- 4:02Speaker 1: different spots. Uh, you know, if you're gonna do that,
- 4:07Speaker 1: you would think, you know, just one good cut and
- 4:11Speaker 1: get the hell out of there. But evidently that was
- 4:14Speaker 1: not her plan. No.
- 4:16Speaker 2: No, she turned that hose into Swiss cheese. And you're right,
- 4:19Speaker 2: I mean, there's there's a sneakier way to do it.
- 4:22Speaker 2: If nothing else, like wander around to the back of
- 4:24Speaker 2: the truck where the hose is coming off, just go
- 4:26Speaker 2: a little and just poke poke it there, or perhaps
- 4:29Speaker 2: if it's plugged into it, you know, the fire hydrant
- 4:32Speaker 2: in front of the house, if there was one. For
- 4:35Speaker 2: all we know, she had knocked out over before they
- 4:37Speaker 2: even got there. Who knows what she did before they
- 4:39Speaker 2: got there, but some more conspicuous place to, you know,
- 4:44Speaker 2: sabotage the firefighting efforts on the on the house fire
- 4:48Speaker 2: that you started. On the other hand, there is one
- 4:54Speaker 2: other aspect to this. We have not considered one other possibility.
- 4:58Speaker 2: There might have been a spider, fair you know, and
- 5:05Speaker 2: she was not about to let that. She was not
- 5:08Speaker 2: about to let that house or any spiders escape it.
- 5:11Speaker 2: So therefore she poked all the holes in the fire hose.
- 5:16Speaker 1: One spider, I'll say, a little excessive, but if there
- 5:18Speaker 1: are multiple spiders, yeah, I understand.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Like you saw the movie Arachnophobia, right, yes, yeah, great
- 5:25Speaker 2: movie by the way, mm hmm, terrible movie for ten
- 5:30Speaker 2: year old me to see, especially at the Costelindo Theater.
- 5:34Speaker 2: May at rest in peace with my good friend Eric.
- 5:37Speaker 2: At the time, we played soccer together and even though
- 5:39Speaker 2: there was no one else in the theater there was,
- 5:41Speaker 2: I mean it was mostly empty. We still sat like
- 5:44Speaker 2: at the in the front row, which was another horrible
- 5:48Speaker 2: mistake because then it actually felt like the spiders were
- 5:50Speaker 2: jumping on you, because there were quite a few of
- 5:52Speaker 2: the jump scares, or the spiders jumped like at the
- 5:54Speaker 2: camera lens. Yeah, mistakes were made that day. I couldn't
- 5:59Speaker 2: do right now. I've got a lamp next to me
- 6:01Speaker 2: with a little poll string to turn it off and
- 6:03Speaker 2: on see watch huh. Yeah. I don't know if you
- 6:08Speaker 2: remember this in the movie Iraq Noophobia, But in the movie,
- 6:11Speaker 2: like an old lady sticks her hand under the lamp
- 6:13Speaker 2: chain and spider drops down, bites and kills her. Oh yeah,
- 6:16Speaker 2: every time I pull a pole chain on a lamp,
- 6:20Speaker 2: I think of that movie. Every time I go into
- 6:24Speaker 2: a barn, I look up to make sure there's no
- 6:29Speaker 2: freakishly large spider web sprawled across the top, along with
- 6:33Speaker 2: some people rolled up in there. Every single time I
- 6:37Speaker 2: pick up a thing of bananas at the store, I
- 6:40Speaker 2: check them for spiders, all because of the movie Iraq Noophobia.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Every single time I get I can go on. Every
- 6:46Speaker 2: single time I put on some slippers. I checked the
- 6:50Speaker 2: slippers to make sure there's no deadly spider hiding in
- 6:53Speaker 2: the toe to get me like it got that old man.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I never really thought about it, but that would
- 7:00Speaker 1: have been a hell of a movie for.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Three D, outstanding, imax, holy.
- 7:08Speaker 1: And you would think. I wonder if it with technology today,
- 7:10Speaker 1: they can go back and you know, make it into
- 7:14Speaker 1: a three D film, because that that that would just
- 7:17Speaker 1: absolutely scare the crap out of you.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Absolutely, it would. That would uh. And here's the thing
- 7:22Speaker 2: I don't. I don't want anyone to remake it. I
- 7:25Speaker 2: think it's already a classic. It's a wonderful film. It's
- 7:27Speaker 2: just you know, it's as perfect as it needs to be.
- 7:31Speaker 2: But in order to get that full three D effect,
- 7:34Speaker 2: if we had to redo it, I'd be okay, as
- 7:36Speaker 2: long as you remake it as closely as possible to
- 7:40Speaker 2: the original, and that includes bringing John Goodman back and
- 7:43Speaker 2: Jeff Daniels to reprise their roles.
- 7:46Speaker 1: So you want a sequel, No, I mean maybe.
- 7:52Speaker 2: I mean, look, sequels have broken our hearts left and right.
- 7:56Speaker 2: But there are some great ones, and we've talked about
- 7:58Speaker 2: them on the show before, including the ones where you
- 8:00Speaker 2: know the sequel was better than the movie that came
- 8:05Speaker 2: out prior. I have such high hopes for Spaceball's too,
- 8:10Speaker 2: that if that lands the way that Top Gun Maverick
- 8:13Speaker 2: landed no pun intended there, then it might open the
- 8:17Speaker 2: door for some other possibilities. But that's everything that Hollywood's
- 8:20Speaker 2: doing these days, is like they're just rolling the dice,
- 8:22Speaker 2: trying to, you know, hit the jackpot again. But I
- 8:26Speaker 2: think you're right. When an Imax three D version of Arachnophobia, God,
- 8:31Speaker 2: that would be fun.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Spaceballs, I have faith in just I have faith in
- 8:38Speaker 1: mel Brooks that he would not be making this if
- 8:43Speaker 1: he didn't think it was a worthy because, I mean,
- 8:46Speaker 1: he's got an abe. I'm sure he knows this that
- 8:49Speaker 1: there's a good chance this will be his last film.
- 8:52Speaker 1: I mean he's going to be one hundred when it releases.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:56Speaker 2: So, And I'm a fan of Josh gadd He's the
- 8:59Speaker 2: one that believe wrote the script or at least worked
- 9:02Speaker 2: on it with others. He's starring in it. I think
- 9:04Speaker 2: he's I think his role is son of maug Yes,
- 9:09Speaker 2: And I have a lot of I have a lot
- 9:11Speaker 2: of faith in him. Well, I have a lot of
- 9:13Speaker 2: hope in him. We'll see if the how the faith
- 9:16Speaker 2: goes when the movie actually comes out. But again, I
- 9:19Speaker 2: love your idea of doing an Arachnophobia, you know, three
- 9:21Speaker 2: D God, that would be good and John Golden. John
- 9:27Speaker 2: Goodman is a treasure.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Okay.
- 9:29Speaker 2: He is a phenomenal actor that can play so many
- 9:31Speaker 2: different styles of roles. But him as Delbert the not
- 9:38Speaker 2: the Executioner, Exterminator, the exterminator, slash executioner whatever, he was
- 9:45Speaker 2: so good in that, so good I I I occasionally
- 9:53Speaker 2: ask our bug guy, our exterminator that comes to our house.
- 9:56Speaker 2: He looks nothing like John Goodman. I think his name
- 9:59Speaker 2: is Angel and I've asked him before if you've seen
- 10:02Speaker 2: arachnophob and he's like, no, what is that? I'm like, God, damn,
- 10:05Speaker 2: you're young. I said you should see it because there
- 10:08Speaker 2: aren't any real Hollywood there are any really are any
- 10:12Speaker 2: movies that Champion the Exterminator quite as well as Arachnophobia?
- 10:17Speaker 1: Did? I mean?
- 10:18Speaker 2: It's basically either that or Steve's on in Saving Silverman
- 10:21Speaker 2: when he gets face attacked by a wreck.
- 10:28Speaker 1: I forget. Have you ever watched The Righteous Jim Stones?
- 10:32Speaker 2: Not all of it, but we've seen some episodes.
- 10:36Speaker 1: That's John Goodman. Is is a treasure mm hm.
- 10:43Speaker 2: As a quick aside, So over the weekend, Tara and
- 10:46Speaker 2: I watched Santa Claus, the movie you remember that, Tim Allen, No,
- 10:53Speaker 2: that's the Santa Claus. No, this one is Santa Claus,
- 10:56Speaker 2: the movie that came out in the eighties. I'm of
- 11:01Speaker 2: course brain farting the names of the actors, like the
- 11:04Speaker 2: guy that played Santa I forget his name, and then
- 11:09Speaker 2: it also had what's his name?
- 11:12Speaker 1: We played Arthur Dudley Moore.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Dudley Moore, thank you. I don't know why I was
- 11:16Speaker 2: trying to call it Dusty, and I know that's not
- 11:18Speaker 2: it because I don't think there's ever been an English Dusty.
- 11:21Speaker 2: But Dudley Moore as one of the elves, and John
- 11:24Speaker 2: Lithgow as the bad guy, the head of BZ Toys,
- 11:28Speaker 2: where they're at the Senate Subcommittee and they're breaking open
- 11:31Speaker 2: his toys and one of them is a panda and
- 11:34Speaker 2: outcomes sand and glass and nails stuffing in the panda.
- 11:43Speaker 2: John John Lithgow is another one of those guys. He's
- 11:46Speaker 2: such a phenomenal actor, can do so many different things.
- 11:50Speaker 2: It's worth rewatching that movie. Just for him. But yeah,
- 11:53Speaker 2: uh so that made me think of it as far
- 11:55Speaker 2: as actors that are, so I'll have to I don't.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I don't remember that movie, but I just.
- 12:00Speaker 2: It is a hardcore kids movie from the eighties. It's pure,
- 12:04Speaker 2: it's pure Christmas type stuff. I almost shocked it's only
- 12:07Speaker 2: got like sixty seven percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Well pretty much anything Dudley More I have always liked.
- 12:16Speaker 2: So yeah, oh yeah, yeah, so you got uh so
- 12:21Speaker 2: Dudley Morris patch John Lithgow was busy with his glass
- 12:25Speaker 2: and nails stuffed toys. David Huddleston is the actor that
- 12:29Speaker 2: played Santa Claus. You'll recognize him, uh when you see him.
- 12:33Speaker 2: And then Burgess merediths really plays a really old elf.
- 12:38Speaker 2: This is not Burgess Meredith from Grumpy Old Men. This
- 12:41Speaker 2: is not the Grumpy old Elf. Although now that I
- 12:44Speaker 2: now that I'm thinking it, that might be a fun
- 12:46Speaker 2: movie as well, but we can't have it because Burgess
- 12:48Speaker 2: is long pasted. I did though, as he comes, it's
- 12:53Speaker 2: been a while since we had seen Santa Claus the movies.
- 12:55Speaker 2: So when this early, when the scene happens when Burgess mayored,
- 12:58Speaker 2: this character comes out of this ancient elf. I just
- 13:00Speaker 2: keep I can hear is him doing the really nasty
- 13:04Speaker 2: jokes and rumpy old like that is not These are
- 13:10Speaker 2: not jokes for a kids movie, you know what?
- 13:18Speaker 1: I would wat trumpy old elf though, Oh grumpy old elves.
- 13:25Speaker 2: You're listening to the Treehouse. Visit us online at Treehouse
- 13:30Speaker 2: on air dot com. Let's get Daniel Cook from COOKDFW

- 13:37Speaker 2: roof inspection and property review scheduled new service they're offering
- 13:41Speaker 2: free of charge along with that roof inspection eight three
- 13:44Speaker 2: three Cook DFW. That's eight three three Cook DFW. You
- 13:48Speaker 2: do a great work, Daniel. But I have a more
- 13:50Speaker 2: serious question to ask you for today. Are you a
- 13:53Speaker 2: roller coaster guy?
- 13:54Speaker 1: I love roller.
- 13:55Speaker 4: Coasters and it's been something like I think I started
- 13:59Speaker 4: in my little portion of my life when I was younger,
- 14:02Speaker 4: I was scared of high speeds or turns or twisters
- 14:06Speaker 4: or anything like that. But as I've gotten older, probably
- 14:09Speaker 4: from my teenage years all the way now I love
- 14:12Speaker 4: roller coasters. I love the speed, I love the adrenaline
- 14:15Speaker 4: that it gives you, the scaredness of it going upside down.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I love roller coasters.
- 14:21Speaker 2: So then are you excited about the new roller coaster
- 14:23Speaker 2: coming to six Flags in twenty twenty six, Tormento Rampaging Run.
- 14:29Speaker 4: I would definitely be excited to see how it looks.
- 14:32Speaker 4: I mean, because I heard this on the news that
- 14:35Speaker 4: they were I think, tearing down another section of a ride.
- 14:38Speaker 4: I don't know what ride they're tearing down.
- 14:39Speaker 2: I think it was Shockwave that they took down, and
- 14:42Speaker 2: this one's going to go in that.
- 14:43Speaker 4: Spot, okay, I mean, and that was a I mean
- 14:45Speaker 4: I remember as a kid driving by the highway always
- 14:47Speaker 4: looking at Shockwave and watching the roller coaster going on
- 14:50Speaker 4: as I was driving down the road, you know, because
- 14:52Speaker 4: I was a passenger obviously, so I was always watching.
- 14:55Speaker 1: It, going, oh, look at the fuck? You know, but yeah,
- 14:57Speaker 1: that's gonna be fun.
- 14:59Speaker 4: They got to keep up dating fresher items all the time, right,
- 15:02Speaker 4: because people get numb to the old rides, and I
- 15:04Speaker 4: understand it. It's kind of nostalgic though to me, Like
- 15:07Speaker 4: you know, that Shockwave was that was a cool I
- 15:10Speaker 4: can't tell you how many times I rode that ride.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, like we talked about it on the show.
- 15:14Speaker 2: That was an iconic ride, not just for when you're
- 15:16Speaker 2: at the park and you ride it, but it was
- 15:19Speaker 2: iconic just as part of the skyline of six flags
- 15:22Speaker 2: driving by on I thirty. It's one of the ones
- 15:24Speaker 2: you saw every single time with the loops.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Yep.
- 15:27Speaker 2: This one's going to take its place, and it's also
- 15:30Speaker 2: going to stand out because this is big. It's a
- 15:33Speaker 2: three hundred and nine foot dive coaster that has you
- 15:36Speaker 2: dangling over the edge and of course it pauses at
- 15:39Speaker 2: the top so you get you know, good and freaked
- 15:42Speaker 2: out before it drops you into oblivion. I'm glad you're excited.
- 15:47Speaker 2: I will not be writing that thing though.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Have you ever been to the Sphere in Vegas?
- 15:52Speaker 2: I have not.
- 15:53Speaker 1: That's exactly what you're describing to me. They have that
- 15:55Speaker 1: roller coaster.
- 15:56Speaker 4: That hangs off the top of the Sphere yep, and
- 15:59Speaker 4: it literally just rops and then it stops here before
- 16:01Speaker 4: you obviously you fall Olivian.
- 16:03Speaker 1: But that's sick. Sounds like exactly what this is going
- 16:06Speaker 1: to be like.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Yeah, terrifying. And it's a great name. Tormento.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Tormento, hear you, that's exactly.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Uh called Daniel for your free roof inspection and property
- 16:18Speaker 2: review and a little bit of fun as well. Why

- 17:11Speaker 2: so now's a great time to get them on your
- 17:13Speaker 2: property to check it out. Eight three to three cook
- 17:15Speaker 2: DFW or their website is cookdfw dot com. It is
- 17:22Speaker 2: on between Paramount and Netflix. I don't know why. I mean, okay,
- 17:29Speaker 2: I do know. I don't know why I do. I'm
- 17:31Speaker 2: very excited about this. This is fascinating. So we talked
- 17:33Speaker 2: about the Netflix bid to buy Warner Brothers Discovery on
- 17:38Speaker 2: our Treehouse Plus episode Treehouse Plus episode I believe that
- 17:43Speaker 2: was one O seven, which you can get when you
- 17:45Speaker 2: subscribe to our Patreon Patreon dot com slash Treehouse On air, Trey,
- 17:51Speaker 2: you and I talked about that in pretty good depth
- 17:53Speaker 2: because it is interesting. It's a massive deal that can
- 17:56Speaker 2: change the landscape of not just where and what you stream,
- 18:01Speaker 2: but the entire entertainment industry. Okay, not to mention the
- 18:05Speaker 2: political implications of it, because that deal would have to
- 18:09Speaker 2: get through federal regulators. And part of the discussion we
- 18:13Speaker 2: had on our Treehouse Plus episode about Netflix buying Warner
- 18:18Speaker 2: Brothers Discovery is the fact that the Netflix bid beat
- 18:23Speaker 2: out Paramount, which they just did their own merger deal
- 18:29Speaker 2: Paramount Skydance thing, and that's run by the Ellison family,
- 18:33Speaker 2: who are big Trump supporters. So it's a real interesting
- 18:36Speaker 2: story across the board. And then it got better because
- 18:41Speaker 2: Paramount has launched a hostile bid to acquire Warner Brothers
- 18:45Speaker 2: Discovery after it lost. It's after the company lost to
- 18:50Speaker 2: Netflix in a high stakes bidding war. What do you
- 18:56Speaker 2: think is gonna happen here, Trey.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Well A, you know, they came out over the weekend
- 19:02Speaker 1: and said the Trump administration said they did not see
- 19:06Speaker 1: this deal going through period. Uh So, but one of
- 19:12Speaker 1: the more fascinating theories I heard was that Netflix really
- 19:19Speaker 1: may not want Warner Brothers, but in the time it
- 19:24Speaker 1: takes to do this merger, he said, Netflix is the
- 19:26Speaker 1: number one streamer streamer, Warner Brothers is number three, and
- 19:30Speaker 1: they could basically sideline Warner Brothers for a year and
- 19:33Speaker 1: a half, two years during this merger and long enough
- 19:37Speaker 1: to damage it and get you know, some new subscribers
- 19:41Speaker 1: that would which I can't even fathom, but that it
- 19:45Speaker 1: may be just deploy kind of just to kill Warner Brothers.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Yeah, just a strategic move, not to actually take over
- 19:51Speaker 2: the company, but to just neoter it for the time
- 19:55Speaker 2: that it takes to go through federal you know, regulator approval,
- 19:59Speaker 2: right and if it if it did pass it, then
- 20:02Speaker 2: Netflix still gets a company that was their biggest competition
- 20:06Speaker 2: in essence. But if they don't, like you just said,
- 20:10Speaker 2: they hamstring it for a year, year and a half,
- 20:13Speaker 2: two years perhaps and then could take advantage in that
- 20:18Speaker 2: in that timeframe. It really is a fascinating thing.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Well, it's fascinating because when you're doing those deals, it's
- 20:25Speaker 1: not like, let's say Netflix went through all the motions
- 20:28Speaker 1: and then at the end of the day it got
- 20:30Speaker 1: turned down whatever You're still talking about probably three to
- 20:35Speaker 1: five hundred million dollars spent in doing the deal. So
- 20:40Speaker 1: it's obviously got to be worth a lot for them
- 20:42Speaker 1: if that's there, you know what they really want, if
- 20:46Speaker 1: they don't care if it goes through or not, if
- 20:47Speaker 1: it just it sidelines them long enough to get new subscribers.
- 20:52Speaker 1: But yeah, it's it's crazy. And then I mean, I
- 20:56Speaker 1: haven't seen I haven't seen the term hostile takeover. It's
- 21:01Speaker 1: like the nineties.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Yeah, that's part of why it's exciting. I like, I
- 21:05Speaker 2: almost had to open up the newspaper. I turned on
- 21:08Speaker 2: my computer and went to a news site and the
- 21:10Speaker 2: first thing I see is Paramount launching a hostile bid
- 21:13Speaker 2: to acquire Warner Brothers, and like, oh, this is getting good.
- 21:17Speaker 2: We got a money fight now. And speaking of that,
- 21:20Speaker 2: Paramount said it would offer thirty dollars per share for
- 21:23Speaker 2: the media conglomerate, which owns the Warner Brothers film studio,
- 21:26Speaker 2: the cable channel HBO, streaming service HBO Max, and a
- 21:30Speaker 2: portfolio of cable brands. In a federal securities filing, Paramount
- 21:35Speaker 2: said the hostile bid will be backed in part by
- 21:38Speaker 2: funds from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, as well as
- 21:43Speaker 2: Affinity Partners, an investment firm founded by Jared Kushner, President
- 21:48Speaker 2: trump son in law. So that could be one of
- 21:51Speaker 2: the big reasons why those inside the Trump administration don't
- 21:54Speaker 2: necessarily think the Netflix bid will you know, be the
- 21:59Speaker 2: win here, because well, it's the Ellisons and now you've
- 22:02Speaker 2: got Trump family on this other side, so that could
- 22:06Speaker 2: you know, tilt the scales just a little bit. The
- 22:11Speaker 2: bid comes after Netflix agreed last week to buy a
- 22:14Speaker 2: large part of Warner Brothers discovery studio and streaming assets
- 22:16Speaker 2: for twenty seven point seventy five per share. Netflix's takeover
- 22:21Speaker 2: would not include the Warner owned cable channels, which include
- 22:24Speaker 2: Singing In and TNT, So yeah, this is gonna be
- 22:29Speaker 2: This is gonna be interesting. Warner Brothers board of directors
- 22:32Speaker 2: already approved the deal with Netflix, but Paramounts moved to
- 22:35Speaker 2: go directly to shareholders, a maneuver known in the business
- 22:38Speaker 2: world as a hostile bid, will push what has been
- 22:41Speaker 2: private negotiations into the public realm hmm, this will be
- 22:46Speaker 2: a fun movie slash documentary in a couple of years.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Oh, it's I mean, it's.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Just a question of which streaming service is gonna carry,
- 22:53Speaker 2: it might tell you how good it's gonna be. H.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Do you remember the movie Barbarians at the Gate. It
- 22:59Speaker 1: was something HBO made James Garner. It was about the
- 23:02Speaker 1: r GR R j R Nimbisco. It was Philip Morris Takeover.
- 23:08Speaker 2: I don't think I ever saw that. I've heard of it,
- 23:10Speaker 2: but I've never seen it.
- 23:11Speaker 1: A great movie, you know, especially just considering the time
- 23:15Speaker 1: of how something. I mean, I think it started. They
- 23:21Speaker 1: started the bid at and maybe they were buying R
- 23:26Speaker 1: j R. I don't remember, but whatever company they were buying,
- 23:28Speaker 1: I think they started like at seventy dollars a share
- 23:31Speaker 1: and then they got into this big pissing contest where
- 23:34Speaker 1: I think the final winning bid was like one hundred
- 23:36Speaker 1: and twenty dollars a share.
- 23:38Speaker 2: And what and what was what were the companies involved?
- 23:41Speaker 1: One of them was r GR R j R Nibisco,
- 23:43Speaker 1: and I want to say the other one was like
- 23:45Speaker 1: Philip Morris. It was one of it was food and tobacco.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Yeah, that's SIGs and cookies. Man, as a as a
- 23:54Speaker 2: former smoker, I can tell you those two do actually
- 23:57Speaker 2: go well together. I mean, milk and cookies ring supreme,
- 24:00Speaker 2: but throw a little tar in there for after the
- 24:05Speaker 2: milk and cookies, not not necessarily altogether.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Yeah, but it's I can't see either one really going through.
- 24:14Speaker 1: I can see I guess I can see Paramount and warn.
- 24:18Speaker 1: I mean because.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Paramount I can I mean, because I didn't realize that
- 24:22Speaker 2: Jared Kushner was involved in this. But you throw in
- 24:25Speaker 2: all the Middle East ties that you know Trump has
- 24:28Speaker 2: in recent years, plus his son in law, that definitely
- 24:31Speaker 2: tilts the scales in the paramount bid direction. Not the
- 24:36Speaker 2: not the least of which is the fact that it's
- 24:39Speaker 2: the paramount bid is also for more money, which the
- 24:42Speaker 2: shareholders will like it.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Well, so is it because the Netflix big didn't include CNN.
- 24:52Speaker 2: It did not, so it's a little bit different. But
- 24:55Speaker 2: I mean, I mean that's another interesting twist as well.
- 24:59Speaker 2: You get to have a member of the Trump family
- 25:04Speaker 2: as an involved an invested owner of CNN, which is
- 25:09Speaker 2: one of Trump's most hated networks. Yeah, there are conflicts
- 25:13Speaker 2: of interest all over this deal.
- 25:16Speaker 1: But at the same time, I mean, hey, the Saudi's
- 25:22Speaker 1: in Middle East money that it's so pervasive that saying
- 25:26Speaker 1: like they're trying to wash their money left right and
- 25:28Speaker 1: sideways from football to you know everything. But you know
- 25:34Speaker 1: the other thing about this is is whenever it goes
- 25:36Speaker 1: through Trump, love him, hate him, whatever, he really has
- 25:42Speaker 1: one more year where he is relevant and then after
- 25:46Speaker 1: the midterms next year he's a lame duck president. I mean,
- 25:51Speaker 1: it's I think it's gonna be. One of the things
- 25:52Speaker 1: that Democrats are really going to have to figure out
- 25:54Speaker 1: is what are they going to do because they've been
- 25:58Speaker 1: basically running on hatred and spy of Trump for ten
- 26:01Speaker 1: years now.
- 26:04Speaker 2: I don't with the conversation to go too far that direction,
- 26:07Speaker 2: but I do feel like it bears saying that's if
- 26:11Speaker 2: he leaves quietly.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Oh, he said, I you know, they they started that
- 26:17Speaker 1: thing a while back, and he has never even indicated
- 26:21Speaker 1: that he wants another term.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Yeah, it is really, he said. He's like, oh, that's
- 26:29Speaker 2: what the people want. I mean, god man, there was
- 26:31Speaker 2: there he said in interviews before we were like when
- 26:33Speaker 2: he's sitting in the Oval office and they're saying, he said, well,
- 26:36Speaker 2: I legally they say you can't. But but then but
- 26:38Speaker 2: then lots of people are telling me that they that
- 26:40Speaker 2: I could, and that I can, and then maybe I will,
- 26:42Speaker 2: Maybe I won't and then it's he Then he was
- 26:44Speaker 2: out of both sides, so he doesn't confirm nor deny,
- 26:47Speaker 2: therefore leaving the door over.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Now he was asked and then he was like, no,
- 26:50Speaker 1: I'm not. But he also he loves to torque the media.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Mm hmm, like I'll tell you what we'll find out
- 26:58Speaker 2: in a couple of years what actually happens, because we
- 27:00Speaker 2: really won't know until it actually gets.
- 27:02Speaker 1: It's not even possible. I mean, because you couldn't get
- 27:04Speaker 1: a consolational amendment.
- 27:09Speaker 2: He doesn't care that much about it. No, stop it,
- 27:19Speaker 2: stop stop it. It's not like that, but he doesn't.
- 27:28Speaker 2: There are checks and balances, and a lot of us
- 27:30Speaker 2: are okay with that as long as it's for our benefit.

- 28:58Speaker 2: be selfish and talk talk about a major screw up
- 29:01Speaker 2: I had, but I really, really really want to talk
- 29:05Speaker 2: about this story that you sent Trey. Okay, so we
- 29:09Speaker 2: might have time for both. We'll see. But at the
- 29:13Speaker 2: very least, we need to talk about this story because
- 29:18Speaker 2: this is a story of how running errands could land
- 29:21Speaker 2: you in prison. An Ohio man sent meth to the
- 29:25Speaker 2: bank using a drive through tube during an otherwise routine transaction,
- 29:30Speaker 2: according to Sheriff's so Good in the Buckeye state of Ohio,
- 29:42Speaker 2: Jason Smith, forty six, was booked on drug related charges.
- 29:47Speaker 2: The underlying incident, according to Monroe County Sheriff's Office. Occurred
- 29:50Speaker 2: December third at a bank in Woodsfield, a small town
- 29:54Speaker 2: located one hundred and twenty miles due east of Columbus.
- 29:58Speaker 2: On the day in question, a bank employees A bank
- 30:00Speaker 2: employee called deputies to report finding a crystal like substance
- 30:03Speaker 2: consistent with methamphetamine in a baggie that had a companied
- 30:07Speaker 2: a transaction sent through one of the bank's air tubes.
- 30:11Speaker 2: I wonder if there are any questions from the Sheriff's
- 30:14Speaker 2: deputies to the bank teller about how you know what
- 30:16Speaker 2: meth looked like? And your answer and her answer better
- 30:21Speaker 2: have been breaking bad, otherwise she's gonna have a search
- 30:23Speaker 2: warrant on her hands. UH Subsequent testing determined the substance
- 30:27Speaker 2: in the small bag was in fact methamphetamine. Over the
- 30:30Speaker 2: course of the ensuing investigation, authorities determined the defendant had
- 30:33Speaker 2: inadvertently sent the package to the bank through the drive
- 30:36Speaker 2: through while completing an otherwise routine banking transaction. Look, if
- 30:43Speaker 2: you can't look after your own drugs, then you don't
- 30:46Speaker 2: deserve to have them. It's that simple. I mean, being
- 30:50Speaker 2: arrested for it is insult the injury, obviously, but how
- 30:56Speaker 2: do you how do you How does the baggie of
- 30:58Speaker 2: meth somehow get mixed into the deposit slip? Maybe there
- 31:04Speaker 2: was cash. Look, I have not made a physical deposit
- 31:08Speaker 2: at a bank in a very long time, But if
- 31:10Speaker 2: I have a baggie of something, I'm going to notice it.
- 31:13Speaker 2: It's got a different feeling texture to cash and paper. Also, Also,
- 31:20Speaker 2: when you hit the button and it goes away, it's
- 31:22Speaker 2: gonna make a very noticeable rattling sound, at which point
- 31:25Speaker 2: I might go, oh, no, I just sent my meth.
- 31:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I don't know how
- 31:37Speaker 1: people did. Like maybe it was in his wallet and
- 31:40Speaker 1: he grabbed some cash to deposit and oops, the baggy
- 31:42Speaker 1: went with it, you know, like some people leave their
- 31:45Speaker 1: IDs in there. That I get.
- 31:48Speaker 2: You're in a hurry, you think you've got the whole
- 31:50Speaker 2: clump of stuff and the IDs in there. But that's
- 31:53Speaker 2: something that's that's a feel of something that's supposed to
- 31:56Speaker 2: be in the tube, A plastic baggie of anything. I
- 31:59Speaker 2: don't think is supposed to be in there. That just
- 32:02Speaker 2: it just seems so weird to me.
- 32:03Speaker 1: We are we are there is one thing we are
- 32:06Speaker 1: kind of missing out on. This which is we are
- 32:08Speaker 1: applying trying to apply logic and reason to someone who
- 32:11Speaker 1: smokes meth.
- 32:15Speaker 2: So you think perhaps he might have been a little
- 32:16Speaker 2: high while at the bank.
- 32:18Speaker 1: You know, I think that is possible.
- 32:20Speaker 2: I hadn't thought about that. I mean, I hate running
- 32:22Speaker 2: errands too, and I guess if I had drugs around
- 32:25Speaker 2: all the time, I guess that would be a way
- 32:29Speaker 2: to do them.
- 32:30Speaker 1: I mean, you know, it's it's not a drug that
- 32:33Speaker 1: you really think of people, you know at a certain
- 32:37Speaker 1: point being that discreet about.
- 32:40Speaker 2: Although I will say, if you want to knock off
- 32:43Speaker 2: some things on your to do list for the weekend,
- 32:46Speaker 2: smoking a little myth will probably get you through it
- 32:48Speaker 2: a lot faster. I mean, they're not going to be
- 32:51Speaker 2: able to understand any of your handwriting on that deposit
- 32:54Speaker 2: slip at the bank, but by god, you did it
- 33:03Speaker 2: after the defendant oh sorry. The man was located in
- 33:07Speaker 2: nearby Wayne Township by officers with the state's Department of
- 33:10Speaker 2: Natural Resources. After he was detained, deputies were called and
- 33:14Speaker 2: what the use of a police dog. They recovered additional
- 33:16Speaker 2: suspected drugs and drug related items from his truck. He
- 33:21Speaker 2: was then transported to Monroe County jail, where I imagine
- 33:25Speaker 2: he's going to be for quite a while. I do
- 33:29Speaker 2: give a lot of credit to the Monroe County Sheriff
- 33:32Speaker 2: Derek Norman. He said in a statement, illegal drugs don't
- 33:35Speaker 2: belong in bank drive throughs. Yeah, share for the year, right,
- 33:41Speaker 2: there got a boy keeping our streets safe and our
- 33:47Speaker 2: press releases stern.
- 33:50Speaker 1: And you know, maybe next time cash app.
- 33:56Speaker 2: Yeah, go digital, bro. There is no possible way you're
- 34:02Speaker 2: going to inadvertently send your meth through cash app or
- 34:05Speaker 2: PayPal or Venmo. That's never going to happen. It'll stay
- 34:08Speaker 2: safely in your pocket or in your button, you know.
- 34:11Speaker 1: And and if people are buying it from you, and
- 34:14Speaker 1: that's why you got this cash, you just have them
- 34:17Speaker 1: put you know, various reasons, you know, tickets, food, whatever,
- 34:21Speaker 1: just make sure they don't go for meth.
- 34:23Speaker 2: And you're yah. I think it makes a lot more
- 34:26Speaker 2: sense if you're going to deal drugs, whether you're buying, selling, whatever,
- 34:31Speaker 2: do it digitally. It just makes more sense. You can
- 34:35Speaker 2: bump phones and then you can.
- 34:38Speaker 1: Do bots. Yeah, and depending on how well that goes,
- 34:49Speaker 1: you might be able to bump other things.
- 34:51Speaker 2: Yeah, and you'll be so excited to do it. If
