- 0:00Speaker 1: Pisa, Texas legend, a Hall of Fame broadcaster, the voice
- 0:05Speaker 1: of the Texas Longhorns, and your host of The Craigway Show.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Hereing us now, Craigway, all right, welcome back to The
- 0:16Speaker 2: Craigway Show.
- 0:18Speaker 3: All right, freak flag, feel good, fake it t you
- 0:21Speaker 3: make it Football Friday edition of The Craigway Show. And
- 0:25Speaker 3: I'm glad Craigway allowed me the opportunity to sit in
- 0:27Speaker 3: with you guys talk a little football today.
- 0:29Speaker 2: We won't talk to some Texas football, of course, we'll.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Talk NFL football, break down the divisional games in great detail,
- 0:35Speaker 3: all of them, including the Houston Texans is the one
- 0:38Speaker 3: here closest to home.
- 0:39Speaker 2: We'll dive into all of those subjects here.
- 0:42Speaker 3: We'll also talk a little bit about the twenty twenty
- 0:46Speaker 3: five roster for Texas because now we do have another
- 0:50Speaker 3: reported transfer a portal entry for the Longhorns.
- 0:54Speaker 2: I believe that makes it ten total.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Entries for the long Horns and the transfer a portal,
- 1:00Speaker 3: which is still these days. That's pretty damn good. Actually,
- 1:03Speaker 3: that's really good these days. So overall, I believe I'm
- 1:08Speaker 3: Ny Black is the latest the tight end that the
- 1:10Speaker 3: Longhorns had just for one season who transferred in from Alabama.
- 1:15Speaker 2: He is the latest Longhorn.
- 1:16Speaker 3: And I believe the last of the Longhorns that reportedly
- 1:20Speaker 3: will enter the transfer portal. That would make ten total
- 1:22Speaker 3: in this transfer a portal window of transfer port departures uh.
- 1:27Speaker 3: The names are John Tay Cook a wide receiver, Jerry
- 1:29Speaker 3: bled So on the D line, Darien Gallett and linebacker
- 1:34Speaker 3: along with I don't want to disrespect the men's name
- 1:37Speaker 3: Conna the linebacker, Aaron Bryant on the D line along
- 1:42Speaker 3: with Tia Savellah on the D line, Jpan Cole at cornerback,
- 1:45Speaker 3: Justice Finkley at the edge position, Sider Mitchell on the
- 1:49Speaker 3: D line.
- 1:50Speaker 2: And the tight end. Of course, I'm right now Black
- 1:52Speaker 2: who is the latest?
- 1:53Speaker 3: Here's the most important stat because these days you're gonna
- 1:56Speaker 3: have attrition.
- 1:58Speaker 2: It's natural, you're gonna.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Have a matter of fact, you can almost you can
- 2:02Speaker 3: argue it's healthy. Now, a healthy amount of attrition. The
- 2:05Speaker 3: guys who are just gonna be leaving your roster so
- 2:07Speaker 3: you can churn out, continuously churn out the bottom of
- 2:10Speaker 3: your roster and upgrade with more talent so you can
- 2:12Speaker 3: make your argument it's healthy attrition. You shouldn't get sad
- 2:15Speaker 3: about guys leaving, and it's healthy attrition when you look
- 2:18Speaker 3: at the contributions of the players who left.
- 2:21Speaker 2: All right, shout out to my man, c J.
- 2:22Speaker 3: Voge will do a good job with this over all
- 2:24Speaker 3: in Texas football at CJ. Vogel underscore OTF career starts
- 2:30Speaker 3: for the the ten players who left. Zero zero combined
- 2:35Speaker 3: career starts for the guys who left, doesn't mean they're
- 2:37Speaker 3: terrible players. Doesn't mean you know that guy's a bomb,
- 2:40Speaker 3: doesn't mean that they're a bus doesn't mean any of that.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Just running the right fit, running the right situation. We've
- 2:46Speaker 3: seen plenty of stories across the country. Now God's transfer
- 2:48Speaker 3: have great careers, okay, just doesn't mean they weren't the
- 2:51Speaker 3: right fit at the right time at Texas. But zero
- 2:54Speaker 3: career starts just means none of them actually were able
- 2:58Speaker 3: to penetrate your rotation or your your starting lineup and
- 3:03Speaker 3: your depth chart.
- 3:04Speaker 2: None of them.
- 3:05Speaker 3: They just it wasn't the right time for them, or
- 3:08Speaker 3: you had so much talent stacked in front of them,
- 3:10Speaker 3: they did not see a path to play. That's healthy attrition.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Those guys need to go and it's what the transfer
- 3:16Speaker 3: portal is for. They need to go somewhere else so
- 3:19Speaker 3: they can find a path to play. So I don't
- 3:22Speaker 3: mind that kind of attrition. You're going to have attrition
- 3:24Speaker 3: these days when you have an attrition of a lot
- 3:26Speaker 3: of guys who were, you know, contributors and guys who
- 3:30Speaker 3: were starters for you. Not that that hasn't happened in Texas.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Texas had guys who were starter get starts or debuilt
- 3:35Speaker 3: lead before. That happens as well, but it's not a
- 3:38Speaker 3: disruptive type of attrition when you're leaving guys, well, guys
- 3:42Speaker 3: are leaving. It's just for Texas, and we'll talk about
- 3:45Speaker 3: the guys they had coming in, but you know they're
- 3:47Speaker 3: dressing needs in the portal. And there's still another spring
- 3:50Speaker 3: portal that'll be coming up as well. But zero career
- 3:53Speaker 3: starts for the ten players that are leaving, and based
- 3:57Speaker 3: on the current numbers, because these numbers are fluid sometimes guys,
- 4:02Speaker 3: as we just learning more now Black that just happened today,
- 4:06Speaker 3: and you may have some other ones happening around the
- 4:08Speaker 3: country and especially in sec country. Right now, Texas has
- 4:13Speaker 3: the fewest amount of transfer portal departures of any team
- 4:17Speaker 3: in the SEC.
- 4:19Speaker 2: That's a win. That's a win.
- 4:22Speaker 3: These days, that's these days, you know, it's you know,
- 4:25Speaker 3: people celebrate the recruiting class. Of course, great Texas has
- 4:28Speaker 3: the number one recruiting class in the country.
- 4:30Speaker 2: That is great. But these days that's not in my opinion,
- 4:35Speaker 2: and it's good.
- 4:36Speaker 3: You should celebrate. You celebrate the big victories and the
- 4:38Speaker 3: small So I'm not telling you not to celebrate it.
- 4:40Speaker 3: But it's not the same as it was when Rod
- 4:42Speaker 3: b was being recruited nineteen ninety nine by Mac Brown
- 4:45Speaker 3: in his second year, and we had the number one
- 4:47Speaker 3: recruiting class in the country because you could count on
- 4:51Speaker 3: a fair amount and a large amount usually of that
- 4:55Speaker 3: recruiting class being intact for a couple of years to
- 4:58Speaker 3: help you build the program. These days, not so much.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Get that number on recruiting class. Man, the dude can
- 5:04Speaker 3: be going next year. So in addition to recruiting, now, retention,
- 5:11Speaker 3: all right, is the big thing. So I was talking
- 5:14Speaker 3: to Bobby Burton about this over do on Texas football,
- 5:16Speaker 3: and by we said, people don't realize the expansive amount
- 5:22Speaker 3: of due diligence and thorough work and analysis that must
- 5:29Speaker 3: be done during the retention period that when he's transfer
- 5:32Speaker 3: portal windows open up. All your guys are being recruited. Now,
- 5:35Speaker 3: it is against the NCAA rules. They're not supposed to
- 5:38Speaker 3: be to recruit your guys, all right, they're not supposed
- 5:41Speaker 3: to be do that, but they do. That's just they
- 5:44Speaker 3: called it tampering. Tampering is like speeding. Everybody, you probably
- 5:49Speaker 3: spared today. You're listening right now. You probably spared today.
- 5:53Speaker 3: You went over the speed limit, maybe five miles, maybe
- 5:55Speaker 3: ten miles. You spared today. You broke the law, all right,
- 6:00Speaker 3: the law, but it's one of those laws where it's
- 6:02Speaker 3: probably the most violated broken law on the books. Right,
- 6:06Speaker 3: everybody speeds. Everybody violates that law at one point or another,
- 6:09Speaker 3: as long as you're not agregious with it, and uh,
- 6:13Speaker 3: you're not endangering the public safety. And yes, you still
- 6:16Speaker 3: can get pulled over for it. But they even we
- 6:18Speaker 3: even say that if you're only going five miles old
- 6:20Speaker 3: the speed limit, a cop will let you go.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Right, that's considered one.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Of the may just be that may just be folklore,
- 6:28Speaker 3: it may be something that's not true at all, but
- 6:30Speaker 3: that's what they tell you. That's what they say, right,
- 6:33Speaker 3: because it's such a violated law on the books.
- 6:37Speaker 2: That's what tampering is.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Tampering says you cannot talk to a player on somebody
- 6:41Speaker 3: else's roster. Everybody tampers. It's like peeing in the shower.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Nobody talks about it though.
- 6:48Speaker 2: It's so everybody's tampering, right, So everybody's going after your guys,
- 6:53Speaker 2: every transfer pot into it.
- 6:54Speaker 3: That guy, even their starter, even if it was a
- 6:57Speaker 3: guy like Jay Barren or an Xavier Worth and every
- 6:59Speaker 3: of those womb those rumors about.
- 7:01Speaker 2: His every worthy in his transfer board. Oh may i
- 7:03Speaker 2: transfer portal?
- 7:05Speaker 3: Well, this is their way of guy's way of renegotiating
- 7:08Speaker 3: these days, I want to renegotiate my contract. I need
- 7:11Speaker 3: to see what my market value is. How do you
- 7:13Speaker 3: determine your market value? I got to hit the market.
- 7:17Speaker 3: That's the transfer portal that will determine my value. If
- 7:20Speaker 3: somebody's willing to pay me half a million dollars, that's
- 7:23Speaker 3: my value. Doesn't really mean what you think my value is.
- 7:27Speaker 3: If somebody's gonna pay me half a million dollars to
- 7:29Speaker 3: do this job, that's my value. If somebody's gonna pay
- 7:32Speaker 3: queen you was eight million dollars to be to transfer
- 7:35Speaker 3: for one year in that nil resources, nil revenue for
- 7:39Speaker 3: him to be their quarterback for one season, that's his worth.
- 7:42Speaker 3: You don't get what you deserve. Will get what you
- 7:45Speaker 3: can negotiate, and they're trying to negotiate. So the retention
- 7:50Speaker 3: with Texas having to talk to every player on the
- 7:52Speaker 3: roster and having to negotiate with every player on the
- 7:57Speaker 3: roster to make sure everybody's good, that is a that's the.
- 8:00Speaker 2: New era of college football.
- 8:02Speaker 3: So I'll give Sark and his coaches a ton of
- 8:05Speaker 3: credit because they didn't have much. It was a healthy
- 8:08Speaker 3: amount of attrition. It was not toxic or unhealthy, disruptive attrition.
- 8:12Speaker 3: The ten guys they are losing, and that is a
- 8:15Speaker 3: challenge these days because everybody wants your guys, and I
- 8:19Speaker 3: think it's healthy when you know they you know they
- 8:23Speaker 3: they have these studies about people on social media and
- 8:26Speaker 3: they say that a lot of folks on social media,
- 8:29Speaker 3: Laura a good a good percentage of folks social media
- 8:31Speaker 3: they cyber. I don't even say cyrus stark, that's the
- 8:35Speaker 3: wrong term. They often check up on their exes. Here,
- 8:39Speaker 3: go tell me this's okay. It's not a big deal, right,
- 8:41Speaker 3: they're just look at it, not doing anything malicious. You're
- 8:44Speaker 3: not you know, you're not doing anything harmful. You just
- 8:48Speaker 3: typing in your excess name and just saying what they're
- 8:51Speaker 3: doing on social media, whether they be on the ground, baseballok, toya.
- 8:55Speaker 3: I just want to see what they're doing, see you know,
- 8:57Speaker 3: if they're posting stuff about their life and and I
- 9:00Speaker 3: think it's just healthy.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Some people want to check on it.
- 9:02Speaker 3: And hopefully you are happy when they're doing well. Hopefully
- 9:06Speaker 3: it's like, oh man, my ex is doing well, they're
- 9:07Speaker 3: married with kids, they look really happy, and I'm happy
- 9:10Speaker 3: for them because it reflects well on you. Says that
- 9:13Speaker 3: you had good taste, said that you have high standards
- 9:16Speaker 3: that you actually do have, you know, a good criteria,
- 9:21Speaker 3: a checklist when it comes to choosing a mate.
- 9:25Speaker 2: So it's not nothing wrong with it. It's kind of
- 9:27Speaker 2: maybe a little bit healthy.
- 9:28Speaker 3: I feel the same way about the transfer portal when
- 9:30Speaker 3: your players are coveted by other schools. When you look
- 9:35Speaker 3: up your guys who went to the transfer portal out
- 9:37Speaker 3: of your program and they end up transferring immediately to
- 9:40Speaker 3: other powerfied programs, said they were coveted.
- 9:43Speaker 2: It says that to me.
- 9:44Speaker 3: When you were building your roster, you built it in
- 9:47Speaker 3: such a way, stacked it with so much talent that
- 9:50Speaker 3: even guys who can't necessarily see the field in your program,
- 9:54Speaker 3: they can go start and they can go be significant
- 9:57Speaker 3: contributors for other programs. So so out of your ten
- 10:01Speaker 3: guys that left, John Tate Cook went to Washington, but
- 10:04Speaker 3: already he's out.
- 10:05Speaker 2: But he went to Washington.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Sidey Mitchell went to LSU Joy Bloodsoe, Mississippi State, Darien
- 10:10Speaker 3: to Let, Mississippi State, Aconna BYU, Aaron Bryant, Vanderbilt, Tia
- 10:15Speaker 3: Surveyor back to Arizona. Justice Finkley went to Kansas. So
- 10:19Speaker 3: eight out of the ten coveted by our other powerfore programs.
- 10:22Speaker 3: That's healthy attrition. That means you steal. You had good taste.
- 10:26Speaker 3: That means I'm happy what my exes are doing well.
- 10:28Speaker 3: I need them to be doing well. They're doing well.
- 10:30Speaker 3: It says, you know what, I had good taste from
- 10:33Speaker 3: the story. I saw their potential. I knew they were
- 10:35Speaker 3: capable of greatness. Maybe not with me, but they found
- 10:39Speaker 3: it at one point. And that's a win. That's a win.
- 10:43Speaker 3: We count the wins today. We count the wins. All Right,
- 10:45Speaker 3: we come back. We'll talk some Texas football, but I
- 10:48Speaker 3: want to get into some NFL discussion. Roger Goodell made
- 10:51Speaker 3: a statement today that honestly shocked no one. I've been
- 10:55Speaker 3: saying this was coming for a while. I think we
- 10:57Speaker 3: all knew. We'll get into that. We'll also break down
- 11:00Speaker 3: on the playoffs, the divisional round right here on the
- 11:02Speaker 3: Craigway Show here on AM thirteen hundred zone. All Right,
- 11:06Speaker 3: welcome back to the Craigway Show Lifetime. About one Rod
- 11:10Speaker 3: Babers sitting in for Craig Way. I appreciate Craig Way
- 11:13Speaker 3: give me the opportunity to sit in for him this week.
- 11:17Speaker 2: He's on the road.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Of course, Craigway is a busy man, but I appreciate
- 11:20Speaker 3: him giving me the time. All Right, I want to
- 11:23Speaker 3: get to some NFL discussion.
- 11:25Speaker 2: But I did. I forgot one of the players.
- 11:28Speaker 3: I originally said it was eight of the ten players
- 11:31Speaker 3: in the transfer portal that had already committed to other
- 11:35Speaker 3: power programs.
- 11:37Speaker 2: And it was nine.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Actually I forgot about Jay Young Cole parent Jay Young
- 11:42Speaker 3: Cole committed to Arizona, So it was Jave Young Cole
- 11:45Speaker 3: committed to Arizona, Justice Finkley, Kansas Tsava Arizona, Aaron Bryant
- 11:49Speaker 3: Van Vanderbilt, Akana BYU Gallet, Missippi State, Dre Bledsoe Mississippi State,
- 11:56Speaker 3: sit in Mitchell LSU. And you did have John T.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Cook that was committed to Washington, so it was not Marty.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Now Black's the only guy that hadn't at least committed
- 12:06Speaker 3: to another power program and he probably will. So Yeah,
- 12:09Speaker 3: I mean, you'll be ten out of ten. That's a
- 12:11Speaker 3: that's a good sign in terms of the healthy attrition
- 12:14Speaker 3: for the program.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Man. The Obama guys don't work out for Sark.
- 12:19Speaker 3: Not really right, I mean a Mardy Nay Black's one
- 12:22Speaker 3: of those Bama guys. You had your little Billingsley initially,
- 12:26Speaker 3: remember the Aja Hall thing, Mary Ny Black. Isaiah Bond
- 12:31Speaker 3: was on that too, Remember Kendrick Black share the linebacker.
- 12:36Speaker 3: I don't know, it's something about the Obama guys he
- 12:39Speaker 3: brings in. I think is Bond, of course, has been
- 12:41Speaker 3: the best. Isaiah Bond will be drafted pretty high. I
- 12:43Speaker 3: don't know if he's going to be drafted in the
- 12:45Speaker 3: first round like the initial projections had before the season started,
- 12:49Speaker 3: and maybe still can't work his way to being there.
- 12:50Speaker 3: But I think that was a lot of Lowland fans
- 12:54Speaker 3: had higher expectations for Isaiah Bond, and I don't know
- 12:59Speaker 3: if they met those expectations either. So it's all about
- 13:01Speaker 3: the UH the Alabama guys they're bringing in here too, Bill,
- 13:05Speaker 3: But I'll give this half a ton of credit.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Though a lot of the guys that.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Were rumored only rumored to be entertaining hitting the transfer
- 13:13Speaker 3: a portal. UH Texas kept, you know, all the guys
- 13:18Speaker 3: who were either significant contributors or guys who were starters
- 13:25Speaker 3: for them. The only guys who left with the guys
- 13:26Speaker 3: who were the guys who only guys who left were
- 13:28Speaker 3: either significant contributors to starters were the guys who declared
- 13:30Speaker 3: for the NFL Draft.
- 13:33Speaker 2: The ore the rest of the attrition. And that's Hey,
- 13:35Speaker 2: that that's what you want. You want. You want guys
- 13:38Speaker 2: to claire for the draft.
- 13:38Speaker 3: They claire in the draft, or they think they're going
- 13:41Speaker 3: to the draft or the draft, of go. That means
- 13:43Speaker 3: you've done a good job developing and it means you
- 13:45Speaker 3: had a lot of talent. And that's just other recruits
- 13:48Speaker 3: and other players around the country are going to see
- 13:50Speaker 3: that Texas is a football factory, in NFL factory, and
- 13:53Speaker 3: they're gonna want to go to Texas too. So that's
- 13:55Speaker 3: a good thing. That's that's the best attrition you can have. Uh,
- 13:58Speaker 3: guys going to get drafted into the NFL. But other
- 14:01Speaker 3: than that, you know, they didn't lose significant contributors or starters,
- 14:05Speaker 3: and that's a credit to the staff and their ability
- 14:07Speaker 3: to retain the talent they have.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Like it's it, it ain't. It's never easy to go
- 14:14Speaker 2: pull a down piece.
- 14:15Speaker 4: You can.
- 14:15Speaker 3: I mean I pulled a dying piece of two in
- 14:17Speaker 3: my life. It ain't easy to pull a down piece,
- 14:19Speaker 3: but it's way harder to keep a don piece you pull.
- 14:23Speaker 2: You can pull a down piece.
- 14:24Speaker 3: You can just be You can be on your game
- 14:26Speaker 3: out there downtown on Sixth Street one night, right, amount
- 14:30Speaker 3: of liquor and confidence whatever, you get out there and
- 14:34Speaker 3: start spending game bom who knows once in lifetime pull
- 14:37Speaker 3: yourself a don piece, all right?
- 14:39Speaker 2: For me, it was easier at times, just.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Saying as a Texas football player and as a guy
- 14:44Speaker 3: who played in the league, easier to pull down pieces.
- 14:46Speaker 3: I had a better story then we'll just say it
- 14:48Speaker 3: can have it to anybody, all right, but I've had
- 14:51Speaker 3: a few dying pieces in Texas. That's what these blue
- 14:53Speaker 3: chips are, the recruited on the ross, right, they're don pieces,
- 14:55Speaker 3: recruiting the four and a five star recruit that everybody
- 14:58Speaker 3: around the country recruited. And they won't steal even the
- 15:01Speaker 3: guys that when they're on your roster and they're tampering
- 15:03Speaker 3: with those guys.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Hey, except it's it ain't easy. But you can pull
- 15:08Speaker 2: a down piece, but keeping a down piece and keeping
- 15:11Speaker 2: them happy, that's that's a tall task. That's a herculean task.
- 15:17Speaker 2: That's where retention is.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Now.
- 15:18Speaker 3: That's my comparison to the retention trying to retain the
- 15:22Speaker 3: roster that you have in college football in the new
- 15:25Speaker 3: landscape of the nil era and transfer portal and teams
- 15:29Speaker 3: poaching and tampering with your players.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Yeah, you pulled the din piece.
- 15:34Speaker 3: The can you keep her candy keeper without a getting bored?
- 15:38Speaker 3: What are what are being dissatisfied? Without her getting annoyed
- 15:42Speaker 3: by it?
- 15:43Speaker 2: Can you keep her? That's what Texas and all these
- 15:46Speaker 2: little power programs are trying to do. Keep the dyning piece.
- 15:49Speaker 2: All right, let's talk a little NFL.
- 15:51Speaker 3: We'll get into promise the last two hours and the show,
- 15:53Speaker 3: we're breaking down the division rounds all right, games and
- 15:56Speaker 3: in too much detail, actually without the research I did.
- 16:00Speaker 2: So we'll get into it.
- 16:01Speaker 3: But I saw this little nugget from Roger Goodell and
- 16:03Speaker 3: knew it was coming. We we live in and supersize me.
- 16:07Speaker 3: You know, a supersized me world. Everything gets bigger. You know,
- 16:11Speaker 3: everything is on a more a grander scale.
- 16:15Speaker 2: If you will.
- 16:16Speaker 3: To increase profits, right, to increase increase the revenue. That's
- 16:19Speaker 3: the old point of it. And when the NFL went
- 16:23Speaker 3: to seventeen games, I remember saying, okay, well, so they're
- 16:26Speaker 3: gonna have eighteen games in two preseason games, like just
- 16:30Speaker 3: it's inevitable. I had enough still contacts in the league.
- 16:34Speaker 3: And that's what the NFL was trying to push. They
- 16:36Speaker 3: want more games.
- 16:37Speaker 2: More games means more money, period, More games, more regular
- 16:41Speaker 2: season games, more money.
- 16:42Speaker 3: That's what the NFL wants. More playoff games, more money.
- 16:45Speaker 3: They expand their playoffs too, didn't they More games, more money.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Let's say the same thing about college football. Everybody was like,
- 16:50Speaker 3: oh man, the gog football playoff twelve teams. That's like, oh,
- 16:53Speaker 3: it's going to sixteen. They just are fourteen. They're gonna
- 16:57Speaker 3: expand it. Whenever they get the chance to expand it,
- 16:59Speaker 3: they will expand it. Because expanding needs more money, more revenue,
- 17:05Speaker 3: bigger the pie, more straight cash homie, all right, cream
- 17:09Speaker 3: cash news everything around me. And I remember saying, I said, man,
- 17:12Speaker 3: that was years ago, and they renegotiate the CBA, and
- 17:16Speaker 3: they started opening the door for seventeen games, and they
- 17:18Speaker 3: got their seventeen games. So we all knew that was
- 17:20Speaker 3: gonna happen because NFL has the weakest players union of
- 17:22Speaker 3: all the major American team sports. The listen Lord Roger
- 17:25Speaker 3: Goodell had to say today to Bloomberg News, he said,
- 17:30Speaker 3: the logical step is for the NFL to expand.
- 17:32Speaker 2: To an eighteen game regular season schedule.
- 17:35Speaker 3: We went to sixteen and four, now seventeen and three,
- 17:38Speaker 3: so eighteen and two is a logical step. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 17:41Speaker 3: a logical step. Yeah, well, yeah, it's common. I knew
- 17:43Speaker 3: it was gonna happen. I don't know if it's a
- 17:45Speaker 3: logical step. I think it's a step that everybody knew
- 17:49Speaker 3: was inevitable. Inevitable step was probably a better term, but
- 17:52Speaker 3: that probably would have gotta be in trouble but it's yeah, logical.
- 17:56Speaker 3: I guess it's another way to the turn of phrase
- 17:58Speaker 3: there and flip it. But yeah, they were gonna get
- 18:01Speaker 3: the eighteen games. The owners want more games because more
- 18:04Speaker 3: games mean more money, and they're gonna get eighteen. And
- 18:08Speaker 3: whether he started at eighteen, at one point, you just
- 18:10Speaker 3: have twenty regular season games.
- 18:14Speaker 2: I mean, they just they gonna keep adding to it.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Guess they're gonna keep you know, they keep expanding things.
- 18:19Speaker 2: We love that.
- 18:20Speaker 3: Roger Cadell, Roger Gille, his his goal or his goal
- 18:22Speaker 3: has always been to make the NFL a twenty billion
- 18:26Speaker 3: dollar a year league.
- 18:28Speaker 2: That just go. I don't know where they are now.
- 18:31Speaker 2: I think they're creeping closer.
- 18:32Speaker 3: They're probably between fifteen maybe between like fifteen billion or
- 18:36Speaker 3: something like that.
- 18:37Speaker 2: I think he's trying to get it to twenty billion
- 18:39Speaker 2: a year. Like that's yeah, uh that, I mean literally,
- 18:46Speaker 2: that's what he told the owners.
- 18:48Speaker 4: Like that.
- 18:48Speaker 3: He told the owners like when he and I think
- 18:50Speaker 3: he just renegotiated to get an extension. I believe that's
- 18:55Speaker 3: what Roger Goodell told him, like that, Hey, that's what
- 18:57Speaker 3: I want to get the league too, by any means necessary,
- 19:00Speaker 3: whatever we got to do.
- 19:02Speaker 2: I want to get it to be a twenty billion dollarly.
- 19:04Speaker 2: He has a mass he had a master plan for it,
- 19:06Speaker 2: is what he told the owners. And you know, I
- 19:11Speaker 2: think he's you know, expanding the regular season more games.
- 19:15Speaker 3: We'll get him close to that, I said, I think
- 19:17Speaker 3: right now they're probably probably at fifteen billion. I mean,
- 19:21Speaker 3: it's it's a lot of rough estimates because you know,
- 19:25Speaker 3: the NFL's you know, private, you know, they're private companies.
- 19:30Speaker 3: The Green Bay Package is kind of where they get
- 19:32Speaker 3: a lot of their public information from because they're owned.
- 19:34Speaker 3: They're publicly owned and the rest of them are pretty
- 19:37Speaker 3: much owned by billionaires majority and minority ownership. But that's said,
- 19:43Speaker 3: that's that's why you're going to expand the regular season.
- 19:46Speaker 3: They'll say it's for other stuff, but that's ultimately what
- 19:48Speaker 3: they want to do. And it's the number one TV
- 19:51Speaker 3: show and the number one it's the number one TV
- 19:54Speaker 3: show in America and even close there's not even any
- 19:57Speaker 3: actually real competition here.
- 19:59Speaker 2: So there you go.
- 20:00Speaker 3: So that's gonna happen. Just keep an eye for it.
- 20:02Speaker 3: It won't happen soon, but that's just him planning to
- 20:04Speaker 3: seed just so people don't get shocked by it. Because
- 20:06Speaker 3: I believe within the CBA they can do it.
- 20:09Speaker 2: They open the door.
- 20:10Speaker 3: They need to vote on it, and that I think
- 20:12Speaker 3: they need three forced owners approval on it, and they
- 20:16Speaker 3: need the players Union to agree to it as well.
- 20:20Speaker 3: But the players Union, it is run by guys who
- 20:24Speaker 3: want more money, and all they have to do is
- 20:25Speaker 3: promise to if they promise to raise the minimum salary
- 20:30Speaker 3: in the league, which is for the Jags, the guys
- 20:33Speaker 3: like Rod b you know, guys who play the average
- 20:36Speaker 3: which is three and a half year, three to four years,
- 20:37Speaker 3: they promised to raise the average minimum salary.
- 20:39Speaker 2: That's what I need. I need to make.
- 20:41Speaker 3: I need to make a million plus dollars for the
- 20:43Speaker 3: three and a half years I'm in the NFL so
- 20:45Speaker 3: that I can be set. And so I don't really
- 20:49Speaker 3: care about as much about the guaranteed salaries and the
- 20:53Speaker 3: lifetime healthcare. Probably should, but you got to make your
- 20:56Speaker 3: money while you're in the league, and that's what they do.
- 20:59Speaker 3: They do a lot of class warfare separate the have
- 21:02Speaker 3: and the have nots in the league, and they're way
- 21:03Speaker 3: more have nots in the NFL than there are halves.
- 21:05Speaker 2: It's not the case in the NBA. Are major LYE
- 21:07Speaker 2: Baseball because it's guaranteed contracts, guaranteed salaries.
- 21:10Speaker 3: You sign it, you get it. That's not the case
- 21:12Speaker 3: in the NFL. There's no guaranteed contracts. Only what you
- 21:14Speaker 3: get in the signing bonus, and only what they guarantee
- 21:17Speaker 3: in the contracts, the guaranteed straight cash.
- 21:19Speaker 2: Homie the k Ish, All right, we come back.
- 21:22Speaker 3: Well, uh oh, Craig Way actually has a little titbit
- 21:25Speaker 3: for us. It's got a nice interview with Rodney Terry.
- 21:29Speaker 3: They're going to play again. You guys are ready for
- 21:31Speaker 3: some Texas basketball. So before we start previewing the Division
- 21:34Speaker 3: round games coming up in the NFL, we'll talk a
- 21:36Speaker 3: little Texas basketball on either side. And here from Craig Way,
- 21:38Speaker 3: the voice of the Long Launch and the head coach
- 21:40Speaker 3: of the Jexas basketball team, Rdneyierry, right here on the
- 21:42Speaker 3: Greigway Show on AM thirteen hundred Zone. All right, coming
- 21:45Speaker 3: up next segment, we'll dive into the Cowboys coaching search.
- 21:49Speaker 3: I've already been on the record saying, hey, just hired
- 21:51Speaker 3: d On, All right, just hired at this one. You're
- 21:54Speaker 3: gonna think about hiring Jason Whitten. You know, I like
- 21:57Speaker 3: Kellen Moore. I was actually a Kellen Moore fan and
- 21:59Speaker 3: a Kellen Moore polo. Just I get the killing more
- 22:01Speaker 3: thing because it works world with deck. I don't think
- 22:04Speaker 3: Kellen Moore is ready to be a head coach in
- 22:05Speaker 3: the NFL, but I get it if it's killing more.
- 22:08Speaker 2: But I at this point, I don't look.
- 22:10Speaker 3: I don't look to the Cowboys for functional organizational leadership.
- 22:15Speaker 5: And I don't look to the Cowboys right now for
- 22:19Speaker 5: to be for them to have consistent championship caliber, uh competition,
- 22:25Speaker 5: like I don't look for them for stability.
- 22:28Speaker 2: I don't look for the Cowboys for you.
- 22:32Speaker 3: Know, for their great organizational leadership like That's not why
- 22:36Speaker 3: I look for the Cowboys.
- 22:38Speaker 2: I look to the Cowboys for entertainment.
- 22:40Speaker 3: And damn it, if they hired Dionne to be the
- 22:42Speaker 3: head coach, I'll be thoroughly entertained. I won't be able
- 22:44Speaker 3: to take my eyes off the Cowboys. I won't be
- 22:47Speaker 3: to stop watching. How bad they are doesn't matter. I
- 22:49Speaker 3: don't think they don't know they will be bad either.
- 22:51Speaker 3: I don't know if the experiment will work or not.
- 22:53Speaker 3: A lot of the you know, unless you maybe they're
- 22:55Speaker 3: gonna hire be Billbili Chick. Bill Belichick says he's good. Though,
- 22:57Speaker 3: by the way, Dell bill Chick says he's good. Mike Lombardi,
- 23:01Speaker 3: who's on his staff, says that they are locked in
- 23:04Speaker 3: and they are committed to North Carolina. Even though we've
- 23:06Speaker 3: seen Bill Belichick, we've seen him reverse course before. And
- 23:12Speaker 3: his girlfriend, the one who's like twenty something whatever she is,
- 23:16Speaker 3: however she is, she's decades younger than he is. She
- 23:21Speaker 3: is also put out on social media that they're committed,
- 23:23Speaker 3: like she's committed with him.
- 23:24Speaker 2: That is such a strange story.
- 23:25Speaker 3: I'm happy for Bill belichicking that maybe that's why he's
- 23:28Speaker 3: going back to college.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Maybe she wants to get back on campus.
- 23:30Speaker 3: All right, let's hear from Craiga or at Craig Way,
- 23:34Speaker 3: the voice of the Logano Woarings. Of course, he is
- 23:36Speaker 3: on the road calling a lot of Texas basketball game.
- 23:40Speaker 3: As a matter of fact, he is going to call
- 23:42Speaker 3: the game Saturday. The Long one men's basketball team will
- 23:45Speaker 3: be taken on Florida on Saturday. And actually you can
- 23:48Speaker 3: hear that game right here on AM thirteen hundreds Zone Saturday.
- 23:52Speaker 2: It'll be at two thirty. That'll be live from Gainesville.
- 23:55Speaker 3: But Rodney Terry, he was on with Craig yesterday during
- 23:59Speaker 3: the Coaches Show and they were a lot of at
- 24:02Speaker 3: Pluckers and he spoke to Rodney Terry about their upcoming opponent,
- 24:05Speaker 3: the Florida Gators. And here's what coach Rodney Terry had
- 24:09Speaker 3: to say about the upcoming matchup.
- 24:11Speaker 6: We welcome you back to Longgordon Weekly with head coach
- 24:13Speaker 6: Rodney Terry from here at Pluckers the West Campus location
- 24:17Speaker 6: here in Austin. Only because we can say, hey, we
- 24:20Speaker 6: are on Liveingkday right now. Texas women are up twenty
- 24:23Speaker 6: at the half at Auburn forty three twenty three, and
- 24:26Speaker 6: I know you and Vic commiserate about trying to keep
- 24:30Speaker 6: your programs on a roll.
- 24:32Speaker 2: And it's a good start for VIX team.
- 24:34Speaker 4: No, Vic's got a really good team.
- 24:35Speaker 1: He's got a lot of continuity from last year and
- 24:38Speaker 1: one of the top teams in the country.
- 24:39Speaker 4: And anytime you go in the road is never easy,
- 24:42Speaker 4: and they're doing a great job. The night sounds like, all.
- 24:44Speaker 6: Right, let's get into a couple of other things as well,
- 24:49Speaker 6: and that's to talk about life in the sec Like
- 24:52Speaker 6: we said, whether you're at home or on the road,
- 24:54Speaker 6: it can be difficult. Florida found that out at home
- 24:57Speaker 6: against Missouri. Well, by the way, guess who's the next two? Sorry,
- 25:00Speaker 6: Florida and Missouri on the road at Florida and then
- 25:04Speaker 6: missoo at home. Let's let's first of all talk about
- 25:07Speaker 6: Florida and what you see from the Gators.
- 25:09Speaker 4: We the Gators.
- 25:10Speaker 1: You know, it's got some connuity from last year. They've
- 25:12Speaker 1: got Clayton back the starting point guard. He's a guy
- 25:15Speaker 1: that can really score the basketball. You talk about Richard
- 25:19Speaker 1: being back, another guy that was a starter a year
- 25:22Speaker 1: ago that could score the basketball.
- 25:24Speaker 4: Connons.
- 25:24Speaker 1: They got some inside guys that really rebound the basketball
- 25:27Speaker 1: at a high Cliff Condon.
- 25:29Speaker 4: It's really good. Big Ruben in their strong you know.
- 25:32Speaker 1: And and uh, you know, you had a guy like
- 25:35Speaker 1: Elijah Morten who played at FAU and played in the
- 25:38Speaker 1: Final four. You know, and you got a good nucleus
- 25:41Speaker 1: of guys that they're the top you know, Uh, offensive
- 25:44Speaker 1: rebounding team in our league and physical team, good shooting team. Uh.
- 25:49Speaker 1: They want to play fast and get the ball up
- 25:51Speaker 1: and down the floor as well, and they can really score.
- 25:54Speaker 1: You know.
- 25:54Speaker 6: It's interesting I hear you talk about all those the
- 25:58Speaker 6: superlatives about Florida, and they're all very accurate and true.
- 26:01Speaker 6: And I sit there and think, you just got through
- 26:04Speaker 6: playing the number two team in the country Auburn that
- 26:06Speaker 6: can rebound with the best of them and can be
- 26:08Speaker 6: beastly the number one team in the country at the time,
- 26:12Speaker 6: Tennessee who can score with the best in the country.
- 26:14Speaker 6: Go on the road to Oklahoma, which start at thirteen, Oh,
- 26:17Speaker 6: can get up and down the floor? You played A
- 26:18Speaker 6: and M who can get up in that No, how
- 26:20Speaker 6: you got Florida. It's kind of like what we've been
- 26:22Speaker 6: saying on the beat, goes on night in night out right,
- 26:25Speaker 6: it does.
- 26:25Speaker 1: And this team can play really fast in transition and
- 26:28Speaker 1: shoot the ball really quick, and they've got great shooters
- 26:30Speaker 1: at every spot, and you know their top five for
- 26:33Speaker 1: a reason, and you know they're well coached. They do
- 26:37Speaker 1: a great job of.
- 26:39Speaker 4: Really putting a lot of pressure on your defense.
- 26:41Speaker 2: All right.
- 26:41Speaker 6: And then from the frying pan to the fire, the
- 26:44Speaker 6: team that just beat them in Gainesville, the Missouri Tigers,
- 26:48Speaker 6: the next opponent for you back at home at Moody
- 26:51Speaker 6: next Tuesday, and we'll talk about some special incentives and
- 26:54Speaker 6: want fans to come out for that. But how about
- 26:56Speaker 6: your impressions of the Tigers.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Dennis has got his team playing out a very high
- 27:00Speaker 1: level right now. You know, he he has a very
- 27:02Speaker 1: physical team as well. You know, he's got some guards
- 27:06Speaker 1: that are playing really well, guys they picked up in
- 27:08Speaker 1: the portal or playing really good for him as well.
- 27:10Speaker 4: And uh, they're a team that.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Could throw a lot of different looks at you offensively, defensively,
- 27:15Speaker 1: and they're playing.
- 27:17Speaker 4: Really well together.
- 27:18Speaker 6: Is it important uh for you as a coach and
- 27:21Speaker 6: for your staff to continue to emphasize the fact that
- 27:25Speaker 6: to the guys about you have to keep grinding because
- 27:29Speaker 6: in this league, more so than what we saw on
- 27:31Speaker 6: the Big twelve, that they're going to see a really
- 27:35Speaker 6: good team almost every time they go out on the floor,
- 27:38Speaker 6: and even the ones whose record might not reflect it
- 27:42Speaker 6: still are good enough to pull a surprise if you're
- 27:44Speaker 6: not on your game.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Well, we've got a number of teams in our lead
- 27:47Speaker 1: that will have a chance compete to be a Final
- 27:50Speaker 1: four participant this year, and Flood is one of those
- 27:53Speaker 1: teams that has a chance to be a Final four
- 27:55Speaker 1: type team. And uh, that that good, and uh, you know,
- 27:59Speaker 1: but the opportunities, you know, ones again that you should
- 28:02Speaker 1: be excited about. You know, we're getting better and uh
- 28:06Speaker 1: in our journey, uh as well. And I thought we
- 28:09Speaker 1: got better even in losses, you know, over the over
- 28:12Speaker 1: the course of last week. Uh, so you know you
- 28:15Speaker 1: welcome those opportunities and you're excited about those, you know.
- 28:18Speaker 6: Uh, coaches have no control, believe it or not, over
- 28:21Speaker 6: conference scheduling, non conference I know it's gonna be a
- 28:24Speaker 6: challenge trying to get to your teams at you have
- 28:26Speaker 6: no control over conference schedule. But I am curious to
- 28:29Speaker 6: get your thoughts on what's the first thing you went
- 28:31Speaker 6: through your mind when you saw how this conference schedule
- 28:35Speaker 6: was going to open with going to College Station, then
- 28:39Speaker 6: playing auburnon Tennessee back to back, and then after that
- 28:42Speaker 6: going up to Norman and then going to Florida.
- 28:45Speaker 4: Well, we knew was gonna be a gunlet you know
- 28:46Speaker 4: what I mean. And I think for us, we try
- 28:48Speaker 4: to take it one game at a time and deal
- 28:51Speaker 4: with the game that you have in front of you.
- 28:53Speaker 4: But but uh, you know again that's what this leads
- 28:56Speaker 4: built on.
- 28:57Speaker 1: I mean that we we had an historic run in
- 29:00Speaker 1: conference play of any conference in.
- 29:02Speaker 4: All the basketball and college basketball.
- 29:04Speaker 1: History, you know, with the winning percentage, so you knew
- 29:07Speaker 1: going in every team was gonna it's gonna be really
- 29:11Speaker 1: a tough challenge for you, whether you're at home or
- 29:13Speaker 1: whether you're on the road.
- 29:15Speaker 4: And but that's what makes ILL lead the best league
- 29:17Speaker 4: in the country. Yeah, you know, and you should be
- 29:19Speaker 4: excited about competing in the.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Best league and getting a chance to play against.
- 29:23Speaker 4: The best teams every night. And that's what we're getting
- 29:26Speaker 4: a chance to do, I would imagine.
- 29:27Speaker 6: Also, it gives you the opportunity, even if you take
- 29:31Speaker 6: some hits, like early on in conference play, because of
- 29:34Speaker 6: the strength and the quality of this league number one
- 29:37Speaker 6: in all the net and computer rankings, that sort of thing,
- 29:40Speaker 6: that if you stay the course and you know, collect
- 29:43Speaker 6: some wins, you'll have a chance to be an NC
- 29:45Speaker 6: tournament regardless of how you ultimately finish up.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:49Speaker 4: Again, I think you have to work the season, you know,
- 29:51Speaker 4: and just stay the course.
- 29:53Speaker 1: I mean, just put everything you have into the game
- 29:56Speaker 1: that you're preparing for, and then you'll you'll worry about
- 30:00Speaker 1: the next challenge after that.
- 30:01Speaker 4: But everything has to go into that game, whether it's
- 30:04Speaker 4: a quick turnaround or not.
- 30:05Speaker 1: I mean, we get in last night and you know,
- 30:07Speaker 1: two in the morning, right, and uh, you know, we
- 30:11Speaker 1: got a quick turn.
- 30:12Speaker 4: We gotta we got a top five team that we
- 30:14Speaker 4: got to get.
- 30:14Speaker 1: Prepared for, and you got a one day prep, you know,
- 30:17Speaker 1: and we'll have to spend a lot of our time
- 30:19Speaker 1: tomorrow trying to get ready for these guys and travel
- 30:22Speaker 1: across over the Gainsville and play.
- 30:24Speaker 4: A uh you know again a top level t all right.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Uh.
- 30:28Speaker 3: And that was Craig Way sitting down with Rodney Terry
- 30:31Speaker 3: on the Coaching Show yesterday live from Pluckers And yet
- 30:35Speaker 3: no doubt, I mean, we thought that Rodney Terry would
- 30:37Speaker 3: get somewhat of some relief going from the Big Twelve
- 30:42Speaker 3: to the SEC. The Big Twelve at the time was
- 30:45Speaker 3: considered the most competitive college basketball.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Conference in America, and now it seems like that's the SEC.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Uh.
- 30:54Speaker 2: So I thought that would be the competitive level would
- 30:56Speaker 2: drop off a little bit. Not the case.
- 30:57Speaker 3: But Rodney Terry and the Texas basketball team hopeful up
- 31:00Speaker 3: to the challenge versus Florida tomorrow as you will hear
- 31:03Speaker 3: that game right here on AM thirteen hundred Zone and
- 31:05Speaker 3: Craig Way, of course will be on the call.
- 31:07Speaker 2: All right, we come back.
- 31:08Speaker 3: We'll get into some other NFL discussions, NFL news notes,
- 31:12Speaker 3: and that we'll talk about the Dallas Cowboys and their
- 31:14Speaker 3: head coaching vacancy.
- 31:15Speaker 2: We'll talk about give you the latest.
- 31:17Speaker 3: With the Cowboys coaching vacancy, all of that and more
- 31:19Speaker 3: right here on the Craigway Show.
- 31:20Speaker 2: They am thirteen hundred Zone. I went back to the
- 31:23Speaker 2: Craigway Show.
- 31:24Speaker 3: I'm live to talk about Horn Rode Baby sitting in
- 31:26Speaker 3: for Craig Way, the voice of the Lonehorns, who is
- 31:30Speaker 3: of course on the road doing I was doing great
- 31:34Speaker 3: work calling Texas football, Texas basketball games, and Craig Way
- 31:38Speaker 3: will be back next week, but I've been sitting in
- 31:40Speaker 3: for him for a couple of days this week. So
- 31:42Speaker 3: I'm really grateful Craig for giving me the opportunity. All right,
- 31:45Speaker 3: let's get to Dallas Cowboys head coaching vacancy. Let's get
- 31:51Speaker 3: to the news related to it and the latest report.
- 31:54Speaker 3: So there's a couple of reports here that I want
- 31:58Speaker 3: to discuss. The first one is from Diana Russini from
- 32:02Speaker 3: The Athletic.
- 32:04Speaker 2: And her episode of Scoop City on her podcast.
- 32:08Speaker 3: She said basically, or at least hinted that the Cowboys
- 32:12Speaker 3: were a little surprised that Mike McCarthy didn't jump at
- 32:16Speaker 3: the offer that they threw out there, whatever offer it was,
- 32:19Speaker 3: the basically, they were surprised that Mike McCarthy had options.
- 32:22Speaker 3: Here's the quote. There's definitely a camp that I'm talking
- 32:25Speaker 3: to that's like, this is not real. This is not real,
- 32:27Speaker 3: they talk. This is all flirting, this is all Jerry
- 32:30Speaker 3: was not expecting Mike McCarthy and the Cowboys to go
- 32:33Speaker 3: separate ways.
- 32:34Speaker 2: The plan was to bring them back. They did not
- 32:36Speaker 2: have a plan in place here, so a lot of
- 32:38Speaker 2: this was scrambling from what I can gather of just
- 32:42Speaker 2: I need to figure out how to fix this quickly.
- 32:44Speaker 3: And so now we're seeing the coaches get called in.
- 32:47Speaker 3: That's surprising because I think a lot of people saw
- 32:50Speaker 3: this coming. He was a lame duck coach. He wasn't
- 32:52Speaker 3: on a contract like he.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Listen.
- 32:56Speaker 3: I don't know what Jerry was saying to Mike McCarthy,
- 32:59Speaker 3: but you know, like my wife always tells me, it's
- 33:02Speaker 3: not about it's not it's not about what you say,
- 33:04Speaker 3: it's about what you do right, actions speak loud and words.
- 33:07Speaker 3: This kind of thing man, your actions were telling me
- 33:10Speaker 3: you didn't really you didn't want Mike McCarthy. If you
- 33:11Speaker 3: wanted make MacArthur, you just offered him a contract extension,
- 33:14Speaker 3: and you'd have been fine. But you didn't offer him
- 33:16Speaker 3: a contract extension. So everybody assumed, oh, lame duck coach,
- 33:21Speaker 3: he's probably gonna be available at the end of the season.
- 33:24Speaker 2: I would say more than half Cowboys fans assume, Oh,
- 33:26Speaker 2: Mike McCarthy's gone at the end of this year. So
- 33:30Speaker 2: he's surprised by it. Man, that's on.
- 33:34Speaker 3: That's that's kind of delusional, and that's that's on Jerry
- 33:38Speaker 3: Jones there, or maybe Jerry Jones just assumed that he
- 33:40Speaker 3: wouldn't have options. But now it looks like, you know,
- 33:43Speaker 3: the Bears were interested, the Saints are interested. It's like
- 33:46Speaker 3: he's gonna get a head coaching job somewhere. And so
- 33:49Speaker 3: the Cowboys may have miscalculated on that one. And there
- 33:55Speaker 3: was also Adam Schefter. He touched on the same overall
- 33:58Speaker 3: idea when he was on the depart might take a show,
- 34:01Speaker 3: and he said when they said no, when the Cowboys
- 34:04Speaker 3: basically said no to Mike McCarthy, or initially.
- 34:08Speaker 2: To an interview Remember they said no to him interviewing.
- 34:10Speaker 3: I believe it was with the Bears, but they said
- 34:12Speaker 3: no to an interview request, and everybody assumed, Okay, maybe
- 34:15Speaker 3: they're said no because Mike McCarthy's gonna be their guy.
- 34:18Speaker 3: They just want to negotiate it with him without him
- 34:21Speaker 3: going to interview with their teams. He said, quote when
- 34:24Speaker 3: they said it's Adam Schefter. When they said no, they
- 34:26Speaker 3: didn't You didn't know whether they meant they were going
- 34:29Speaker 3: to try to get something done or whether they were
- 34:32Speaker 3: just kind of dot dot being Dallas, just being Dallas,
- 34:37Speaker 3: just being overly dramatic. You were gonna sign CD anyway
- 34:42Speaker 3: to a certain number, but you want to drag it out,
- 34:45Speaker 3: say anything with Dak, you know what I mean? Like
- 34:47Speaker 3: you just liked the drama. You like T and T,
- 34:49Speaker 3: you love the drama. And for I think the Cowboys
- 34:54Speaker 3: maybe they miscalculated in this one that they thought, oh,
- 34:57Speaker 3: we'll get some headlines out of it, but ultimately we'll
- 34:59Speaker 3: get Mike mc he's got nowhere else to go. Well
- 35:02Speaker 3: broke about that, and so now we're at either Kellen Moore,
- 35:07Speaker 3: who just interviewed Dion, is a realistic option. No, people
- 35:12Speaker 3: think it's not.
- 35:13Speaker 1: It is.
- 35:14Speaker 3: We know he really really likes Jason Witten. They interviewed
- 35:19Speaker 3: Robert Salah because they're scrambling.
- 35:23Speaker 1: I'm not.
- 35:23Speaker 3: And there's such a very unique situation because of the
- 35:29Speaker 3: very unconventional chain of command with the Cowboys. I don't
- 35:34Speaker 3: know if you're just gonna I mean, you could try
- 35:36Speaker 3: to get Ben Johnson. I mean, I would love for
- 35:38Speaker 3: you to get the top coaching candidate, maybe Aaron Glenn,
- 35:41Speaker 3: who's also another one of those top coaching candidates. But
- 35:44Speaker 3: when these guys have their pick of multiple jobs, they
- 35:48Speaker 3: don't always.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Go to the Cowboys. Because the Cowboys you're not gonna get.
- 35:52Speaker 3: You don't get all the credit, and you don't necessarily
- 35:55Speaker 3: get to make all you don't get enough of the
- 35:58Speaker 3: decision making. You don't get enough of the decision making
- 36:03Speaker 3: ability with those particular situations like the Cowboys, because Jerry
- 36:06Speaker 3: Jones is running the show.
- 36:10Speaker 2: Also, I was saying about d On though. I was
- 36:12Speaker 2: talking to Coach Brewster. Coach Tim Brewster who recruited me,
- 36:16Speaker 2: and he worked with.
- 36:18Speaker 3: Coach Prime when he was at Jackson State and when
- 36:22Speaker 3: he went to Colorado, and he says that the mistake
- 36:25Speaker 3: that people make about Dion, and I'm a huge d
- 36:27Speaker 3: young fan, have been since I was in high school.
- 36:30Speaker 3: I wanted to be Dion. I wore number two in
- 36:32Speaker 3: high school because of Dion. Want to wear number two
- 36:35Speaker 3: in high in college because of Dion. He weren't between
- 36:37Speaker 3: college for those who know, and but I ended up
- 36:39Speaker 3: wen't number twenty one still because of Dion. So love
- 36:42Speaker 3: me some, don love me some prime time, he said.
- 36:44Speaker 3: The mistake that people make about Dan is they assume
- 36:47Speaker 3: that his success.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Is you know, some type of it's.
- 36:54Speaker 3: Something of It's not a mistake, but they assume that
- 36:57Speaker 3: it's some type of coincidence because he's just great at football,
- 37:01Speaker 3: that he's also you know, a success now coaching.
- 37:05Speaker 2: But it's not.
- 37:05Speaker 3: He's like very detailed oriented, meticulous about a lot of things,
- 37:10Speaker 3: and he values relationships.
- 37:13Speaker 2: And his old coach at.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Coach Mickey Andrews at Florida State, he once said Dian
- 37:21Speaker 3: was not only just the best player of a coach
- 37:23Speaker 3: because the arguing with the greatest athletes ever played defensive back,
- 37:27Speaker 3: but he said he was also the hardest worker.
- 37:29Speaker 2: God just worked like his tail off, like he was
- 37:33Speaker 2: obsessed with, you know, being the not only the best
- 37:39Speaker 2: at hes position, but also being the guy that put
- 37:43Speaker 2: in the most work and the was the most committed
- 37:45Speaker 2: to his craft, into cultivating his craft. And that's the
- 37:49Speaker 2: side of DEEA. And you don't see because all you
- 37:50Speaker 2: see is Prime who.
- 37:54Speaker 3: Loves a big stage and knows how to promote as
- 37:57Speaker 3: well as anybody shame self promoter.
- 38:01Speaker 2: But he also shines the light on this kids a lot.
- 38:03Speaker 3: The students that are student athletes are in his program too,
- 38:07Speaker 3: and you got to have a certain kind.
- 38:09Speaker 2: Of DNA to deal with that big spotlight. All right,
- 38:11Speaker 2: we come back, We'll get into the division round games,
- 38:14Speaker 2: will break them all down and get into the x's
- 38:16Speaker 2: and o's and preview all of the matchups coming up
- 38:18Speaker 2: this weekend, all of that more right here on The
- 38:20Speaker 2: Greigway Show on AM thirteen hundred of All Right, welcome
- 38:23Speaker 2: back to The Craigway Show.
- 38:25Speaker 3: A freak flag, feel good, fake it to your make
- 38:28Speaker 3: it ric flair Whoo Football Friday edition of The Craigway Show.
- 38:33Speaker 3: US Right, it's not a little good Rick flair woo
- 38:36Speaker 3: every now and I'm telling you it makes you feel good, trusted,
- 38:38Speaker 3: it'll rejuvenation, energize. I guarantee you that, all right, we'll
- 38:43Speaker 3: get to some NFL discussion, and we'll talk about the
- 38:46Speaker 3: divisional game, start to break those down a little bit.
- 38:48Speaker 3: There's also, of course Texas football discussion to get to
- 38:52Speaker 3: the transfer portal of actually transfer portal news.
- 38:55Speaker 2: There was another player for the Longhorns that hit the
- 38:58Speaker 2: transfer portal. I'm not black. That makes ten in this
- 39:01Speaker 2: transfer a portal window. We talked about it.
- 39:04Speaker 3: We'll get into it a little bit later on and
- 39:05Speaker 3: tell you why that's a healthy attrition for Texas losing
- 39:09Speaker 3: just ten guys via the transfer a portal, And then
- 39:11Speaker 3: we'll talk about the retention, which is a success story
- 39:15Speaker 3: for the lone Ones of keeping so many of their
- 39:17Speaker 3: key guys and key contributors and starters for this twenty
- 39:21Speaker 3: twenty five roster. All right, So we'll get to that
- 39:23Speaker 3: coming up a little bit later on. Also, Craig Way
- 39:26Speaker 3: spoke with Rodney Terry during the Coaches Show. We played
- 39:30Speaker 3: some audio of him previewing their upcoming opponent, the Florida Gators.
- 39:33Speaker 3: Will do that coming up a little bit later on
- 39:35Speaker 3: in the show too. So we'll go behind the burnt
- 39:37Speaker 3: Orange current and talk some Texas sports. But let's get
- 39:40Speaker 3: to the NFL Divisional round games to start to break
- 39:43Speaker 3: those down. Of course, right here close to home, the
- 39:47Speaker 3: Texans will have the herculean task ahead of them of
- 39:51Speaker 3: trying to take down the Kansas City Chiefs on a
- 39:55Speaker 3: dynastic run, trying to do something that nobody's ever done before.
- 39:59Speaker 3: That's something that's ever been done in the history of
- 40:00Speaker 3: the NFL, which is three peatd The NFL is not
- 40:03Speaker 3: built that way for teams to win three in a row.
- 40:07Speaker 3: It's just not really, not in the modern age, not
- 40:09Speaker 3: in the Super Bowl era. The NFL isn't built that way.
- 40:12Speaker 3: Not the way they do their draft, not their CBA,
- 40:16Speaker 3: not with the salary cap.
- 40:18Speaker 2: Everything is promoting parody. They won't parody.
- 40:22Speaker 3: They want everybody's fan base to feel like they have
- 40:25Speaker 3: hope every year. And the more fan bases have hope
- 40:29Speaker 3: all throughout the season, that's why they expand This part
- 40:31Speaker 3: of the reason they expanded the playoffs. The more you
- 40:33Speaker 3: invest in your team emotionally but also financially right your
- 40:37Speaker 3: team being your team's not in it, you lose interest.
- 40:39Speaker 2: You're like a losing some most most people do. I don't.
- 40:41Speaker 3: I'm a football team, So all pay attention ill damn't
- 40:44Speaker 3: watch anybody playing football but the Kansas City Chiefs, Right,
- 40:48Speaker 3: they're trying to do something that has never been done,
- 40:52Speaker 3: because it does really, I mean, it really kind of
- 40:57Speaker 3: flies in the face of everything that the NFL is
- 40:59Speaker 3: built on of it for a team to go in
- 41:01Speaker 3: this kind of dynastic run and the Chiefs and this
- 41:05Speaker 3: is how rare it is for a team to three
- 41:08Speaker 3: peat in the NFL and win three in a row.
- 41:10Speaker 3: Not only has it never happened, but no team has
- 41:12Speaker 3: really even been close. No team that's repeated has even
- 41:17Speaker 3: made it back to the super Bowl. Like they ain't
- 41:22Speaker 3: even made it back to the super Bowl. They don't
- 41:24Speaker 3: even make it back there. Because naturally, there's a natural,
- 41:30Speaker 3: you know process of you know, attrition that happens. Guys
- 41:34Speaker 3: leave your team, the salary cap, you know, older players
- 41:38Speaker 3: that are in players are more expensive, so you're gonna
- 41:40Speaker 3: pay players, so your roster sources degrade. You lose coaches.
- 41:44Speaker 3: That's a big part of it too. You lose your
- 41:46Speaker 3: best coaches. Right when once teams around the league it's
- 41:50Speaker 3: a copycat league. See you have success, they start trying
- 41:52Speaker 3: to steal your coaches. So it's hard to keep the
- 41:55Speaker 3: nucleus of your team in place long enough for you
- 41:59Speaker 3: to go on that kind of a run. And that's
- 42:03Speaker 3: what the Cancachefs are trying to do. And they've kept
- 42:04Speaker 3: the nucleus right. They got the best coach in the
- 42:08Speaker 3: NFL and Andy Reid I always talk about the holy trinity,
- 42:11Speaker 3: the coach, who's your coach, who's your GM, who's your quarterback?
- 42:15Speaker 3: And where are they ranked among their peers. Well, the
- 42:19Speaker 3: GM for the Kansaity Chiefs is bread Veitch top three
- 42:23Speaker 3: to best GM in the league. He's in that conversation,
- 42:27Speaker 3: Andy Reid, He's in the conversation to be one of
- 42:30Speaker 3: the greatest coaches of all time. So he got the
- 42:31Speaker 3: best coach in the NFL right now. And Patrick Mahomes
- 42:34Speaker 3: is the best quarterback in the league, so they have
- 42:36Speaker 3: the best They have the best holy trinity in the league.
- 42:40Speaker 3: To me, that's why the Canta Chiefs are tough to
- 42:42Speaker 3: be period because that nucleus is hard to be and
- 42:47Speaker 3: then you branch out from that and you go, well,
- 42:49Speaker 3: Chris Jones might be the best interior d lineman in
- 42:51Speaker 3: the league, and then Travis Kelcey is the best tight
- 42:54Speaker 3: end in the league, and he and you know, Patrick
- 42:57Speaker 3: Mahomes have the best connection of any quarterback active receiver
- 43:01Speaker 3: in the league, so they have other things to build it.
- 43:03Speaker 3: I like, I like Trent McDuffie. Actually, I'm a big
- 43:05Speaker 3: fan of Fam the cornerback for Kansas City as well.
- 43:08Speaker 3: But they that's why Kansas City can have this longevity
- 43:12Speaker 3: and it's sustained excellence for as long as they have
- 43:17Speaker 3: is because man, they got the best of the best
- 43:19Speaker 3: when it comes to that. You know that though those
- 43:22Speaker 3: key elements to building a franchise, now here's the tech,
- 43:26Speaker 3: and the Texans are trying to build that too, right,
- 43:28Speaker 3: Just what.
- 43:28Speaker 2: You know, Debiko runs and you got c J. Stroud.
- 43:32Speaker 3: I'm a big fami Nick Cassario, you got your Holy
- 43:34Speaker 3: Treney is pretty good and you know who you gotta be.
- 43:37Speaker 3: You gotta take down Kansas City, right if you want
- 43:41Speaker 3: to in the AFC, if you want to ascend in advance,
- 43:45Speaker 3: Kansas City is a team that's gonna be in your
- 43:47Speaker 3: way and this is the time to do it. And
- 43:51Speaker 3: I think that the Texans they do have, they do
- 43:56Speaker 3: have the necessary elements to neutralize Kansas City's offense, and
- 44:03Speaker 3: I think they'll do a pretty good job of because
- 44:06Speaker 3: Demiico Ryans. Listen, guys, when he comes over with a
- 44:08Speaker 3: game plan for a high level quarterback, Now, Patrick Mahomes
- 44:12Speaker 3: a different beach star together, and they did just play
- 44:14Speaker 3: Patrick Mahomes, and you know the game plan wasn't that effective.
- 44:18Speaker 3: I mean, I believe the Kansas City Chiefs had twenty
- 44:21Speaker 3: five first downs in that game. That was a season
- 44:23Speaker 3: high allowed for the Texans defense. That's what when you're
- 44:26Speaker 3: going up against the best play caller, play designer and
- 44:30Speaker 3: the best quarterback in the league, you know thems to breaks.
- 44:34Speaker 3: But against Justin Herbert, he had his worst game of
- 44:38Speaker 3: the season and that was just last week. Jared Goff,
- 44:41Speaker 3: when you played the Texans, he had his worst game
- 44:43Speaker 3: of the season, arguably of his career. Same thing with
- 44:45Speaker 3: Justin Herbert, worst game of the season, arguably of his
- 44:48Speaker 3: career career when he played the Texas defense. Same thing
- 44:50Speaker 3: with Jared Goff. Five interceptions for him, four interceptions for
- 44:53Speaker 3: Justin Herbert. Josh Allen, he had arguably the worst game
- 44:58Speaker 3: of his career and his worst.
- 45:00Speaker 2: Of the season when he played the Texans.
- 45:02Speaker 3: I mean, these are elite quarterbacks, these guys are I
- 45:05Speaker 3: mean Josh Allen's in the MVP discussion. Jared Goff is
- 45:09Speaker 3: leading what looks like a juggernaut there with the Detroit Lions,
- 45:15Speaker 3: and they have the most explosive offense in the league
- 45:18Speaker 3: right now. And you know, Justin Herbert is one of
- 45:22Speaker 3: the better young quarterbacks in all of the NFL.
- 45:25Speaker 2: And yet when they faced this Texans defense, with.
- 45:31Speaker 3: The game planning and the strategy of Demiko Ryans, they
- 45:35Speaker 3: had their worst games of the season, arguably the worst
- 45:39Speaker 3: games of their careers versus the Texans d The Josh
- 45:45Speaker 3: Allen staff that I love is that his thirty percent
- 45:48Speaker 3: completion rate was a career low, and it was the
- 45:52Speaker 3: lowest percentage in a game with at least thirty attempts
- 45:55Speaker 3: in the past thirty seasons.
- 45:56Speaker 2: It's easy to remember because of the thirties. So and
- 46:00Speaker 2: Tua had a bad game.
- 46:01Speaker 3: I think Tua had three picks and two is not
- 46:04Speaker 3: in the upper echelon of quarterbacks like those other guys,
- 46:08Speaker 3: but Jordan Love had two interceptions. They turn you over
- 46:13Speaker 3: and their sound in coverage, and I think that'll give
- 46:17Speaker 3: them a shot. They actually can win in coverage versus
- 46:20Speaker 3: Kansas City's receivers. Not every down, but they can win
- 46:24Speaker 3: their fair share, and that's good enough to start, because
- 46:30Speaker 3: you need dbs that can win on the outside because
- 46:32Speaker 3: you're gonna have to, I think, devote and allocate resources
- 46:36Speaker 3: to stop Travis kelce and limit that connection between him
- 46:39Speaker 3: and Patrick Mahomes. And you're probably gonna do it by
- 46:42Speaker 3: bracketing him. You can't just put a linebacker on them.
- 46:45Speaker 3: You got safeties that I think can cover Travis Kelcey,
- 46:47Speaker 3: but Travis Kelcey doesn't. I've told you this all the
- 46:50Speaker 3: time when mexic caann't see achieved so tough. Now said,
- 46:52Speaker 3: he doesn't run the routes, Gus. There's no hard angles,
- 46:56Speaker 3: there's no real right angles in this.
- 46:59Speaker 2: He's just getting open.
- 47:00Speaker 3: Go look at his Go look at the Travis Kelcey
- 47:03Speaker 3: route tree. Every now and then, like throughout the game,
- 47:05Speaker 3: they do it. On next year they track it. He's
- 47:07Speaker 3: just running around getting open. It looks like dude playing
- 47:10Speaker 3: on the playground. He's just running around getting open because
- 47:13Speaker 3: he knows that the offense at times his gear just
- 47:16Speaker 3: to create space for him. All right, They're just the
- 47:19Speaker 3: wide receivers just running routes just to create space for
- 47:21Speaker 3: Kelsey and Patrich Mahans is buying time for Kelsey and
- 47:25Speaker 3: that's that makes that connection tough to stop.
- 47:27Speaker 2: And then the what makes.
- 47:28Speaker 3: Patrick Mahomes tough to stop is I told you guys
- 47:30Speaker 3: last year he was second in the NFL in scrambling
- 47:33Speaker 3: yards behind Lamar Jackson. He scrambles a lot in the
- 47:37Speaker 3: playoffs and a lot more than you like him too.
- 47:39Speaker 3: And the Texans, unfortunately they allow the most rushing yard
- 47:44Speaker 3: seven point eight on quarterback runs and scrambles.
- 47:47Speaker 2: That's not necessarily a good thing, but I do think.
- 47:52Speaker 3: They need to be a lock up on the outside
- 47:54Speaker 3: with the wide receivers potentially into one on one situations
- 47:57Speaker 3: because they're gonna need to allocate resources extra resources for
- 48:00Speaker 3: Kelsey to limit him and potentially to spy Patrick Mahomes
- 48:04Speaker 3: at times because he can scramble and he scrambles really well.
- 48:08Speaker 3: And you got to defend three plays in one. You
- 48:10Speaker 3: got to defend the initial play, whatever that is. And
- 48:12Speaker 3: if it's a run play, great, you just make the tackle.
- 48:15Speaker 3: If it's a pass play, you got to defend the
- 48:17Speaker 3: initial pass play. Then when he extends to play and
- 48:20Speaker 3: get outside the pocket, if you can't contain him, and
- 48:22Speaker 3: it's hard to contain him. You do have the edges
- 48:23Speaker 3: to do it, though. You got the best edge duo
- 48:25Speaker 3: in the playoffs in the NFL, Will Anderson and Daniel Hunter,
- 48:29Speaker 3: the only edge duo that is both guys in the
- 48:32Speaker 3: top ten in sacks. So you can keep him in
- 48:35Speaker 3: the pockets holding the football because you got hiss his
- 48:38Speaker 3: weapons covered up. And that's when you get inefficient, very chaotic,
- 48:46Speaker 3: almost a risky style of football from Patrick Mahomes because
- 48:52Speaker 3: when he when he lost the Buffalo and that only
- 48:54Speaker 3: lost the season, he held the ball for three point
- 48:56Speaker 3: three seconds and it wasn't him scrambling, it was him
- 48:59Speaker 3: in the pocket. He played Houston the first time. Two
- 49:01Speaker 3: point five seconds was his average time to throw.
- 49:03Speaker 2: That's way too quick. That that means he's going to
- 49:05Speaker 2: his first read.
- 49:06Speaker 3: You gotta take away his first rd, force him to
- 49:08Speaker 3: hold on to the ball a little bit so you
- 49:09Speaker 3: can collapse the pocket on top of him. And you
- 49:12Speaker 3: don't want him outside the pocket cause then he's extending
- 49:13Speaker 3: to play. And then you got to defend number two,
- 49:15Speaker 3: the scrambled drill. And then if you defend the scrambled
- 49:19Speaker 3: drill successfully between him and Kelsey and Kelsey Rich run
- 49:22Speaker 3: around making up routes to get open. Then you got
- 49:25Speaker 3: to defend the scramble of the quarterback who actually tucks
- 49:28Speaker 3: it and is a really good athlete out in space.
- 49:31Speaker 3: It's a it's hell on wheels. So that is gonna
- 49:35Speaker 3: be the conundrum for the Texans and we come back,
- 49:38Speaker 3: I'll tell you how I think they The Texans have
- 49:41Speaker 3: a shot. It's a narrow path to victory. But I'll
- 49:44Speaker 3: tell you what the shot the Texans may have in
- 49:46Speaker 3: this matchup versus Kansas City. But man taking to beat
- 49:49Speaker 3: the man, you gotta beat the man. Taking down the man,
- 49:51Speaker 3: it's gonna be It's gonna be tough for the Texans.
- 49:53Speaker 3: We'll get into it. We'll talk about that on the
- 49:54Speaker 3: other side right here on The craigway Show, right here
- 49:56Speaker 3: on AM thirteen hundred some. All right, welcome back to
- 49:59Speaker 3: the The Craigways Show. I'm not Craig Wabe, but I'm
- 50:02Speaker 3: sitting in for Craig Waye. So I appreciate Craig giving
- 50:05Speaker 3: me the opportunity to sit in for him today. I
- 50:08Speaker 3: was in just a couple of days this week, and
- 50:11Speaker 3: Craig will be back next week for you. But I
- 50:13Speaker 3: want to get into the NFL playoffs, will we got
- 50:15Speaker 3: some time to continue talking about the Texans and the
- 50:19Speaker 3: tall task ahead of the Texans trying to take down
- 50:21Speaker 3: the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Chiefs would be you know,
- 50:25Speaker 3: they would be making history if they can get back
- 50:28Speaker 3: to the super Bowl. Even to make it back to
- 50:29Speaker 3: the super Bowl to try to win a third one,
- 50:32Speaker 3: as I brought up earlier, that has never happened. I mean,
- 50:36Speaker 3: no team is, like I said, trying to get to
- 50:38Speaker 3: their get to three in a row has having gotten
- 50:40Speaker 3: close to nineteen ninety forty nine Ers came closest, but
- 50:44Speaker 3: I believe they lost to Bill Parcels and the Giants
- 50:47Speaker 3: in the NFC title game. So talking about the KANSASA Chiefs,
- 50:50Speaker 3: and one thing that's gonna be interesting here is they
- 50:54Speaker 3: have twenty four days of rest. At least they will
- 50:58Speaker 3: have twenty four days of rest when they play the Texans.
- 51:02Speaker 3: And the rust versus rest thing has come up a lot,
- 51:05Speaker 3: and it very well. Maybe this team knows how to
- 51:08Speaker 3: flip a switch, right. They got championship pedigree, They've won
- 51:11Speaker 3: super Bowls, they know, I mean, they had seven walk
- 51:14Speaker 3: off wins this year.
- 51:16Speaker 2: Seven of their wins will walk off wins. That is
- 51:21Speaker 2: that's unbelievable.
- 51:23Speaker 3: I mean, you're talking about you know them, the half
- 51:25Speaker 3: of your wins were just a walk off style because
- 51:27Speaker 3: they they know how to be clutch, and they have
- 51:30Speaker 3: the clutch team.
- 51:31Speaker 2: They're not always good.
- 51:32Speaker 3: They haven't actually played that well this year, but they've
- 51:35Speaker 3: been really clutched this year. And actually they've been really
- 51:38Speaker 3: clutch for the last sixteen games because they've had sixteen straight.
- 51:42Speaker 2: Games decided about one score.
- 51:43Speaker 3: That's an NFL record eleven and zer in close games
- 51:47Speaker 3: seven and zerine game when you drive opportunities. They haven't
- 51:51Speaker 3: blown the fourth quarter lead, so if they get a
- 51:52Speaker 3: fourth quarter lead, that might be all.
- 51:55Speaker 2: She wrote, So you want to make sure you gotta
- 51:57Speaker 2: lead going into the fourth quarter.
- 51:58Speaker 3: But the rest, the actually rust and the rest arguments
- 52:02Speaker 3: may help the Texans here, even the mighty Kansas City
- 52:05Speaker 3: Chiefs may have to deal with Russ because that twenty
- 52:08Speaker 3: four days of rest, three weeks, almost a month of
- 52:10Speaker 3: rest before your you know, playoff game before the playoff
- 52:14Speaker 3: game is a long time.
- 52:15Speaker 2: So I went back and.
- 52:16Speaker 3: Looked at it, and this is from two thousand and
- 52:20Speaker 3: two to twenty twenty three, all right, So in that
- 52:24Speaker 3: time span, there were eighty teams who had a first
- 52:27Speaker 3: round by keep in mind twenty twenty when the NFL
- 52:31Speaker 3: switched to only one by per conference at that time.
- 52:35Speaker 3: So out of these eighty teams, if you break them
- 52:38Speaker 3: down into the ones that had no rest that played
- 52:40Speaker 3: immediately just played the next week, and then the one
- 52:43Speaker 3: who had semi rest meaning they just had the bye week,
- 52:47Speaker 3: the one bye, and then there's the embracing what they
- 52:50Speaker 3: call the double bye. And the reason the Kansae Chiefs
- 52:53Speaker 3: have had twenty four days rest is because they didn't
- 52:55Speaker 3: play their starters in the last game of the season.
- 52:58Speaker 3: So they get that week of rest because they didn't
- 53:00Speaker 3: play the starters and they didn't they didn't play because
- 53:03Speaker 3: they had to buy week. And then of course they
- 53:06Speaker 3: get this week getting ready for their opponent. That's three
- 53:08Speaker 3: weeks basically that they're gonna get a rest because they
- 53:11Speaker 3: embrace what they call the double bye.
- 53:13Speaker 2: Get the double by, all right, that's for rest. And
- 53:16Speaker 2: they're men teams throughout, you know, the last couple of decades,
- 53:20Speaker 2: they they embraced the double buy they'll use, they'll use
- 53:24Speaker 2: if they got their place already solidified in the playoffs,
- 53:29Speaker 2: and they don't have to worry about their seeding.
- 53:30Speaker 3: They'll just rest everybody in the last game. But some
- 53:32Speaker 3: coaches were about the rust and rest situation, so they decide,
- 53:36Speaker 3: now I'm gonna play my guys for a quarter, plan
- 53:39Speaker 3: for a half. That's not what Kansas City did. They
- 53:41Speaker 3: rested their guys for that entire final week of the season.
- 53:45Speaker 3: So going back and looking at those eighty teams, here's
- 53:48Speaker 3: how they performed in the playoffs with the with no
- 53:54Speaker 3: rest semi just that one week of rest, and then
- 53:57Speaker 3: the double by rest that we're talking about. If you
- 54:02Speaker 3: go to look at their playoff record, the double by
- 54:06Speaker 3: rest fifty percentage.
- 54:10Speaker 2: And their playoff record overall but Super Bowl wins, only
- 54:16Speaker 2: one team as won of the Super Bowl on that
- 54:19Speaker 2: in that timespan, on that double by for rest, which
- 54:24Speaker 2: is not good. There have been more teams on no
- 54:27Speaker 2: rest at all. They have just gotten hot that have
- 54:29Speaker 2: won it in that timespan with not a lot of rest.
- 54:33Speaker 2: If you go look at the.
- 54:35Speaker 3: Amount of teams who their division record in terms of
- 54:38Speaker 3: winning in the UH their division record, the teams who
- 54:42Speaker 3: embrace the double by seven and four sixty percentage, but
- 54:49Speaker 3: they don't cover very very often in terms of the
- 54:53Speaker 3: spread against the spread. The teams with the double rest
- 54:57Speaker 3: are three, are three and eight covering the spread of
- 55:02Speaker 3: the time they cover the spread, so don't cover the spread,
- 55:05Speaker 3: which that to me makes sense that there so there
- 55:08Speaker 3: is some letdown basically what these numbers tent, there is
- 55:11Speaker 3: some let down.
- 55:12Speaker 2: They may not necessarily lose, but.
- 55:14Speaker 3: Maybe there is a slow start, maybe there is some
- 55:18Speaker 3: working out the kinks, maybe there's some rusts, there some
- 55:21Speaker 3: inconsistency with the With the Chiefs, I'm not sure we'll see.
- 55:26Speaker 2: I mean, they have some new pieces.
- 55:27Speaker 3: Remember they brought in DeAndre Hopkins, Hollywood Brown came back
- 55:30Speaker 3: off the injury DJ Humphries their left tackle. I mean
- 55:35Speaker 3: he's only played a few snaps as they're starting left tackle,
- 55:39Speaker 3: so he could use more work to get cohesion and
- 55:43Speaker 3: continuity with the offensive line. They're getting back their starting
- 55:46Speaker 3: corner with that extra rest. So I don't know if
- 55:49Speaker 3: the rust or the rest thing will affect the canc Chiefs,
- 55:51Speaker 3: but historically, at least recent history will suggest it will.
- 55:56Speaker 3: That will be more advantageous to the Texans. The fact
- 55:59Speaker 3: that the Kansa Chios haven't played in so long, but
- 56:03Speaker 3: the Texans did a good job, A great job, actually
- 56:05Speaker 3: a pressuring justin Herbert last week in the playoffs, he
- 56:09Speaker 3: was under pressure on more than half his dropbacks and
- 56:12Speaker 3: fifty eight percent of the pressures were under two and
- 56:18Speaker 3: a half seconds. That is that's important because Patrick Mahomes
- 56:23Speaker 3: the last time he played the Texans, his average time
- 56:25Speaker 3: to throw was two and a half seconds.
- 56:28Speaker 2: It was his fastest off the season at the time.
- 56:31Speaker 2: They got to get to him quickly.
- 56:33Speaker 3: They got to get to him quickly and collapse the
- 56:34Speaker 3: pocket quickly, and they need to take away the quick read,
- 56:39Speaker 3: the first read for Patrick Mahomes, which means the corners
- 56:42Speaker 3: need to be aggressive, and they got the corners in
- 56:44Speaker 3: the dvs to be aggressive.
- 56:45Speaker 2: Derek Stingley Junior was playing at a really high level.
- 56:48Speaker 3: I mean right now, and I said last year, before
- 56:54Speaker 3: this season, I said Derek Stingley should be playing at
- 56:57Speaker 3: all pro level. Since eight he has allowed a twenty
- 57:03Speaker 3: seven passer rating when targeted on sixty attempts. Yeah, no,
- 57:09Speaker 3: he's bothering, he really is. He's playing like an all pro.
- 57:12Speaker 3: I don't know if he's gonna get oh Pro, but
- 57:14Speaker 3: he's playing like it right now. They need him to
- 57:17Speaker 3: be kind of a shut down corner in this situation.
- 57:19Speaker 3: On his side of the field, Kamara Lasser is playing
- 57:22Speaker 3: really well, Kaylyn Bullock, Eric Murray, Miles Brynt, even the
- 57:26Speaker 3: youngster play world. Their secondary is playing like the best
- 57:28Speaker 3: secondary right now in the playoffs.
- 57:30Speaker 2: I love the chief secondary too.
- 57:32Speaker 3: They'll get back Jalen Watson, but their secondary is playing
- 57:34Speaker 3: well enough where you're gonna.
- 57:35Speaker 2: Need them to win against the receivers.
- 57:37Speaker 3: So you can devote resources to stop the Travis Kelcey
- 57:42Speaker 3: connection and to stop Mahomes to scramble because you allow
- 57:46Speaker 3: more rushing yards per quarterback or per rush on quarterback
- 57:50Speaker 3: run scrambles included than any team in the league. And
- 57:53Speaker 3: I'm telling you he's gonna be He's gonna scramble, and
- 57:56Speaker 3: then when all that is said and done, you still
- 57:58Speaker 3: gotta go win the fourth quarter.
- 58:00Speaker 2: INSTIs dude, He's clutch. He's The last time the Texans
- 58:04Speaker 2: played the can't see the Chiefs, and I'll exist I'll
- 58:08Speaker 2: get the exact stats.
- 58:09Speaker 3: And the numbers because they were kind of mind blowing.
- 58:11Speaker 3: But the last time they played them in the playoffs
- 58:15Speaker 3: in the playoffs, sorry, last time they played the Kansaity
- 58:18Speaker 3: Chiefs in the playoffs, the Texans were up by twenty
- 58:24Speaker 3: four points. I remember predicting before the game the Texans
- 58:28Speaker 3: were going to beat the Chiefs. This is before they
- 58:30Speaker 3: have become the Chiefs on this dynastic run, all right,
- 58:34Speaker 3: But I do remember celebrating that they were twenty four points,
- 58:36Speaker 3: This game is gonna be over. And then I watched
- 58:38Speaker 3: Patrick Mahomes put the cape on and bring his team
- 58:41Speaker 3: all the way back got they were. The Texans were
- 58:44Speaker 3: up by twenty four points in the first half, and
- 58:46Speaker 3: the Kansas City Chiefs had come back and.
- 58:48Speaker 2: Releading by halftime. That leaves some scars on you.
- 58:52Speaker 3: I know it ain't the same guys there, but that
- 58:54Speaker 3: leaves the s car and I went back and looked
- 58:56Speaker 3: at it, and that's when I started tracking it. And
- 58:58Speaker 3: there's nobody in the history we have the NFL guys
- 59:01Speaker 3: in the history of the league that is better win
- 59:06Speaker 3: down double digits in a game than Patrick Mahomes.
- 59:09Speaker 2: I wouldn't looked at all.
- 59:10Speaker 3: The greatest quarterbacks of all time, Tom Brady, he has
- 59:13Speaker 3: a losing record, went down double digits in the playoffs
- 59:16Speaker 3: five and eight, Aaron Rodgers two and six. Drew Brees
- 59:20Speaker 3: was one in eight, Joe Montana was two and six,
- 59:23Speaker 3: Brett fav was one and seven, Peyton Manny was two
- 59:25Speaker 3: and seven. You're not supposed to have a winning record
- 59:27Speaker 3: against good teams. When you're down double digits in the playoffs,
- 59:30Speaker 3: they know how to finish you off. Patrick Mahomes down
- 59:33Speaker 3: double digits in the playoffs because he's five and two.
- 59:38Speaker 3: Lamar Jackson is one and four, down double just in
- 59:42Speaker 3: the playoffs. He's got a winning record, and three of
- 59:44Speaker 3: those have been in the Super Bowl. The man's been
- 59:46Speaker 3: down double digit. I wouldn't watch it.
- 59:48Speaker 2: Actually.
- 59:49Speaker 3: Last year I went to the Super Bowl in Las
- 59:51Speaker 3: Vegas and watching the forty nine Ers get up on
- 59:54Speaker 3: Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, it still couldn't finish him off.
- 59:58Speaker 2: He's got there.
- 59:58Speaker 3: Nobody's got a more more of a clutch gene than
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: Patrick Maholmes. I think it's better than tom Brady's too.
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: I think he's got more of the clutch gin and
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: Tom Brady. Tom Brady the most clutch we've ever seen.
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: All Right, we come back, We'll get into more of
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: the NFL playoffs, We'll dive into the other AFC matchup
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: between the Bills, and we'll get into that that Bill's
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: Ravens matchup, and will also jump to the NFC side things.
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: All that and more right here on the Preigway Show,
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: right here on AM thirteen hundred some. All right, welcome
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: back to the Craigway Show. Craig Way is out because
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: Craigway is on the road calling games with Cam Parker,
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: so we appreciate I appreciate them letting me sit in
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: for them this week. They'll be back next week though,
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: so don't worry about that. Speaking of craig Way, we'll
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: actually hear from Craigway coming up next next hour. He
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: spoke with Rodney Terry during the Coaching Show yesterday at
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: Pluckers and got a little snippet from Rodney Terry and
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: Craig Way talking about the upcoming opponent for the Texas
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: men's basketball team, the Florida Gators. We'll get to that
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: sound coming up in just a few a few segments,
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: actually in a couple of segments, will get to that
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: coming up next hour. But let's get back to previewing
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: the divisional round games. On the AFC side of things,
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: we talked a lot about the Texans and the Chiefs.
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: I'm picking the Chiefs. I'm a Texans fan. I love
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: the Texans. I think they're great. It's really really tough
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: to obviously for the Texans this season.
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: I think to match up with the Chiefs.
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: I do think there may be a season away from
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: being able to take down the Chiefs. But maybe I'm
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: just I'm not a true believer, but I do think
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: the Textans are like a season away.
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: Next year, I think they meet the Chiefs in the playoffs.
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: I think they may have a better shot at it.
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: They've had some injuries in key spots. Who hasn't at
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: this point of the year. But I do think CJ.
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: Stroud They're gonna need him to go out there and
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: make some extraordinary, miraculous plays, which he is capable of doing.
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: By the way. He's got that dog get them and
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: he's got the cape ability, if you will, to put
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: the cape on.
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: I just hadn't seen it enough this year. It's really
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: the old line too, It's a big part of it.
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: Watch Chris Jones. Chris Jones is Chris Jones season man.
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: Chris Jones always plays like the best defensive player in football.
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: During the playoffs. That's when he makes his best plays.
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: Most impactful plays.
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: I mean, you can make the argument right behind Batch Mahomes,
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: the reason that they have made these Super Bowl runs
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: is Chris Jones in the place that he's made in
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: the clutch.
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: All right, let's get to the Ravens and the Bills.
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: This is a this is a juggernaut matchup. I mean,
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: both of these teams are I think capable of, you know,
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: potentially upsetting the Kansas City Chiefs. And that's what we're
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: talking about here, which one of these teams has a
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: chance of knocking off the Chiefs. Earlier this season, though,
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: the Ravens proved they might just be a bad matchup
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: for the Bills. Ravens won by what the twenty five
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: points versus the Buffalo Bills on Sunday Night Football.
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: Josh Allen basically that was one of his worst losses
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: of his career. And in that loss, I mean, Derrick
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: Henry just went off and the win for Baltimore I
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: should say, one hundred and ninety nine rushing yards. Yet
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: that eighty seven yeard touchdown run on like the first
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: play from scrimmage, and they didn't even need Lamara Jackson
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: to showcase his skill set. He had a modest game.
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: I think two hundred total yards passing and rushing, you know,
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: three touchdowns. I say modest game. But they he was
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: only thirteen of eighteen, so they didn't really need the
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: passing attack because they were so dominant on the ground.
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: That is the question.
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: Can the Bills stop the you know that really dominated
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: the rushing attack with Lamara Jackson and Derrick Henry. I'm
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: leaning Ravens in this one. I'm not sure they can't.
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: They won't have Zay the the Ravens won't have Zay Flowers.
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: It's gonna hurt their offense a little bit. But they
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: went a lot of heavy sets versus the Steelers just
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: be hey, that's an AFC North matchup and they wanted
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: to kind of play bully ball with them. So maybe
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: that was just a matchup specific thing, but it may
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: be the route they're going in the playoffs to wear
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: teams down with Derrick Henry.
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: We know Derrick Henry. That's when he really imposes his
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: wiel's late in.
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: The season, when teams are worn down and players are hurt,
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: battling injuries, the weather it gets cold, and then you
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: got this two hundred and whatever, forty thirty forty pounds
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: beast running downhill on you. So I think that's what
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: they're trying to do. And in that game versus Pittsburgh,
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: they had eighty nine percent of their offensive snaps they
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: used either two running backs on the field or two
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: tight ends.
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: That's heavy personnel.
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: One back, eleven personnel, one back, one tight end. The
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: first number indicates how many running backs on the field.
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: Second number indicate how many tight ends on the field.
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: So they win a lot of twelve personnel won back
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: two tight ends, and we're a lot of twenty one
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: personnel two backs, one tight end, or twenty personnel two
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: backs on the field at one time.
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: And you know that is interesting.
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: I said, to go heavy like that and the Bills,
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: the Bills didn't get. The Bills don't get in a
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: lot of base base personnel being only four defensive backs
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: on the field, uh, and mostly either three or four linebackers,
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: you know, terms of front seven, front seven defenders seven
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: guys on the field for your front seven. So I
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: wonder how they'll match up if the Ravens go that
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: route again and try to play bully ball with them,
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: and the Bills are in base. Like I said, just
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: four dv's on the field, the lowest rate in the NFL.
- 1:05:44Speaker 3: They don't match up like that. They're actually in dying
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: a lot.
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: They're even dying like sixteen percent of the time, which
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: is six dv's on the field that is. So that's
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: a matchup that I'm watching. The Bills are one of
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: the best teams in the league, though, when they go
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: with an extra offensive lineman, they put a sixth offensive
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: line on the field and they just they just go
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: with a where's the beef personnel grouping and they just
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: run downhill on teams.
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: And that old line was great in the Wild Cord
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: Round versus Denver. Denver led the NFL in pressures per
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: game and.
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: Sacks per game.
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: Actually, they were at three point seven sacks per game
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: and over almost seventeen pressures per game, and they allowed
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: the Bills office wide allowed just nine pressures and one sack.
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: That's pretty good numbers versus that Denver defense in the playoffs.
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: So that old line now is starting to come into
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: their own and they in that first matchup is a
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: great way to break tendency. Always say the win big games,
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: you gotta find a way to break tendency. The Bills,
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: I think are the one of the best teams, if
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: not the best team running the football out of a.
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: Six tozer line package.
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: They didn't use it a lot in the first matchup
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: because the game got blown wide open too early. Derrick
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: Henry from the jump first play from Scrimminch he runs
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: for an eighty seven yard touchdown. Game got blown wide
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: open and they were just playing catch up. They were
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: chasing the rest of the game. They never had a
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: chance to dictate the turn tempo or dictate the terms
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: of the matchup, so they may have a chance this time.
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: They only had two rush attempts with that six to
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: zero line package and that first matchup versus the Ravens,
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: So in this matchup, I think you'll see that six
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: ole line package early on where they know they can
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: still try to dictate the tempo and dictate the game.
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: But I've said scrambling is gonna be a big part.
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: Both of these quarterbacks operating off schedule, improvising extending plays.
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: Ultimately that could be the determining factor.
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: I mean, that's just because you have two of the
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: best scrambling quarterbacks and most i will say the most
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: highest scrambled rate for quarterbacks in the NFL, and two
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: of those guys facing off in this matchup, they will
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: be accounted for, but still in the open field, Lamark
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: Jackson and Joshaw on the open field, I don't give it, damn.
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: If you do have a spy on, it's still really
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: really tough. A that's a tough task in the open
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: field to take those guys down.
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: So we'll come back.
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: We'll get into some more tidbits about this particular matchup
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: on the AFC side of things with the Bills in
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: the Ravens. But I'm gonna pick Ravens. I'm gonna tell
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: your I think I'm picking Ravens. But I think this
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: is This is as close as you're gonna get in
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: terms of matchup in the playoffs. But it may be
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: a bad matchup for the Bills, but we shall see.
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: We come back, we'll talk more about that, and we'll
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: also get to some other divisional round games on the
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: NFC side when we come back as well. All of
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: that and more right here on The craig Way Show
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: thirteen hundred Zone. All right, welcome back to the Craigway
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: Show here on AM thirteen hundred zone.
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: I want to continue breaking down the AFC side of
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: the playoff bracket.
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: On the divisional round, we're talking Bills and Ravens. I've
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: already said picking the Ravens. I'm also picking the Chiefs,
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: even though over my textans it hurts my heart to
- 1:08:48Speaker 3: do so. But I did make the client that I
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: wouldn't pick against Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs anymore. I
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: think I did it a couple of times, and it
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: just it's just not a smart thing to do. Just
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: take the young to take the young goat and the
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: young prodigy every time, and you'll be on the winning time,
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: winning side more often times than not. But I'm hoping
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: that Texans put off the upset.
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: That would be great. We'll talk about that. I was
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: just talking about that, you know, the first or the
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: first time.
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: But the last time the Texans played the Chiefs in
- 1:09:20Speaker 3: the playoffs, and they were up by twenty four points.
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: At what point in that game? And if you look
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: at all of the and they lost the game.
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: Of course, if we look at all the comeback wins
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: by teams who were down by at least twenty four
- 1:09:38Speaker 3: points or more, a deficit of at least twenty four points,
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: out of all the comebacks in the history of the
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: NFL of teams who were playing from a deficit of
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: at least twenty four points or more, the Chiefs versus
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: the Texans, that was the only team to come back
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: from down at least twenty four and lead at halftime.
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: The rest of the teams were done. They were down
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: by twenty four. If you're down by twenty four yearsually,
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: you already down at halftime. I mean, I don't think
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: there's ever been an example of that. They're not down,
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: you know, they're not down in the first half at
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: one point, They're all of the rest of them had
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: a halftime deficit of some kind. The only team that
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: didn't have a halftime deficit. But we're down by at
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: least twenty four points. Talking about NFL history here and
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: come back to win. Can City the Chiefs versus the Texans, Yeah,
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: that would hurt anyway. Getting back to the Ravens and
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: the Ravens actually whipped up on the Texans last year
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: the playoffs. But getting back to the Ravens and the Bills,
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: one thing to watch is twenty eight, twenty eight.
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: It's like the.
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: You know, to me, that's the number you want to
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: watch for the Ravens, that's one of their I think
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: it's to me for the Ravens, it's that point where
- 1:11:02Speaker 3: they're playing like their style of football or they're being
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: forced to play somebody else's style of football.
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: That's the breaking point.
- 1:11:08Speaker 3: They're thirteen to her when they score at least twenty
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: eight points that they're zer and five when they don't.
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: So if they're not, because this is an offense that's prolific,
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: it's meant to score a lot of points. They're meant
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: to be an explosive offense because you got to devote
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: so many resources to stopp being the running attack of
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: Derrick Henry and his sheer size and mass, and then
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: Lamar Jackson and his running ability and the fact that
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: he's an elite passer.
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: They they stress you in so many ways. They're gonna
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: pop a few big explosive plays, and those big exposive
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: plays are gonna lead to them getting into the red zone.
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: And these, by the way, this is a matchup of
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: the two best red zone offenses in the NFL, and
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: it's easy to see why. Right this is Honestly, I'm
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: not gonna start talking Texas football here Texas has had
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: red zone issues since. You know, I call it the
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: post Bijon Rojo era. It's really I call it the
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: bech On Rojo hangover effect.
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: And SARK has not figured out red zone offense since
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: Bjon and Rojo left the forty Acres because it was
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: easy when Bjon and Rojo were here. Put some Bjon
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: on it with the side of Rojo solves all your problems.
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: Don't matter what you call in the red zone. Just
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: give it to Bjon, give it to Rojo.
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: You're good, all right, those go through.
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: Those guys were very skilled that being able to score
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: in the red zone. Just had a nose for the
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: end zone. And they could be physical, they could be twitchy,
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: they could get to the edge, you know, if they
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: needed to, you.
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: Know, beat guys one on one, they could. They just
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: they had it all.
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: You had two of those guys, and you were top
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: five in Sark's first year in the red zone offense
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: and touchdown percent in the red zone. And you were
- 1:12:41Speaker 3: nineteenth in red zone offense in twenty twenty two and
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: sixty fifth in touchdown percent in the red zone.
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: And since then, both of those numbers have.
- 1:12:48Speaker 3: Cratered one hundred and twentieth and ninetieth in red zone
- 1:12:51Speaker 3: offense and touch down percent in the zone in twenty
- 1:12:53Speaker 3: twenty three, fifty fourth and first in touch down percent
- 1:12:56Speaker 3: in the red zone in twenty twenty four. My theory
- 1:12:59Speaker 3: is that you won't have red zone issues with arch
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: Manning because he can run. It changes up the math.
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: It gives you the plus one of the running game.
- 1:13:10Speaker 3: They'll have to account for that. They'll keep the backside
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: edges conservative, all right, they won't be able to crash
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: down as much. That plus one the running game will
- 1:13:19Speaker 3: also help the traditional running game. So your goal line
- 1:13:23Speaker 3: issues which you had versus Ohio State, which you've had
- 1:13:26Speaker 3: versus Oklahoma, I think those will improve too because having
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: we've seen arch Manning in short yardage, he always gets
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: way more than he needs, usually every time, but usually
- 1:13:37Speaker 3: he gets way more than he needs. These two yards,
- 1:13:38Speaker 3: Dud's picking up eight yards right Think about the agis.
- 1:13:41Speaker 3: I think they needed two yards there. He goes in
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: and scores a touchdown. He's big, he think he can run,
- 1:13:47Speaker 3: and they'll use that no situations. Because running quarterbacks that
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: dual threat ability. It solves a lot of the problems
- 1:13:53Speaker 3: that the red zone creates by the with the restricted space,
- 1:13:56Speaker 3: you create more space, you add another man, had another
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: man for them to have to defend. And so getting
- 1:14:05Speaker 3: back to it, that's why these are the two best
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: red zone offense in the league. They got quarterbacks that
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: can run, they can move, So it might come down
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: to who has the best red zone defense. And I
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: believe Baltimore is a better red zone defense. They've allowed
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: a fewer red zone points and have a better touchdown
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: touchdown percentage defense in the red zone as well. That's
- 1:14:25Speaker 3: why I'll take Baltimore there. I think they have both
- 1:14:27Speaker 3: teams really good in the red zone. Take the better
- 1:14:29Speaker 3: red zone defense, that's Baltimore. And also I think the
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: Bills might have trouble stopping the Baltimore running attack the best.
- 1:14:37Speaker 3: It's the best running attack in the league, and i've.
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: Seen the Bills.
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: Now. The Bills did stomp Detroit, and Detroit is a
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: really good rushing attack. I think they held Detroit to
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: less than fifty yards rushing, so that was good, But
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: I seen the Jets run for a lot of yards
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: on them. The Jets ran for like one thirty nine
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: and one they allowed sorry, they allowed one to twenty
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: one and one twelve. Excuse me to the j E
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: T S Jets. Jets Jets that are a m e
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: ss mess mess mess. They allowed one to thirty nine
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: and one forty nine to the Dolphins. Dolphins have a
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: pretty good rushing attack, so I think Baltimore will be
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: able to run the ball on So think Baltimore can
- 1:15:16Speaker 3: run the ball on them. I think Baltimore's red zone
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: defense can you know, win them a down or a
- 1:15:23Speaker 3: series or two there.
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: And I think that balt that Baltimore is gonna go
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: heavy at times like they did last week eighty nine
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: percent of their snap two backs, two tight ends, and
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: Buffalo is uncomfortable going with bass personnel. I won't say
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: they are getting their linebackers back. Terrell Bernard, he wasn't
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: available in the first matchup. He's gonna play. Matt Mulano
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: wasn't available in the first matchup. He's gonna play. So
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: maybe they'll go base with their linebackers. So they like
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: the linebacker.
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: They're also getting to run Johnson back to Nickel who
- 1:15:54Speaker 3: wasn't available in their Week four matchup, and it got
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: a Maury Cooper. But I haven't heard much from Marik Cooper,
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: he's been relatively quiet. Maybe this is a game where
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: you know, Marty Cooper makes a big plays because he's
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: got a playoff experience as well. So I'm gonna I'm
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: gonna lean Ravens in this matchup, but I could see
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: Josh Allen taking over the game because both of these
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: quarterbacks have that ability to be the great equalizer take
- 1:16:17Speaker 3: over the game. And it doesn't matter what your projections are, predictions,
- 1:16:20Speaker 3: or matchups were.
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: Josh Allen just went off and he did it when
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: he beat the Chiefs that time.
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: Right, But I'm gonna say, Lamar Jackson is the one
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: putting the cape on and he's got better personnel and
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: better weapons around him to do so.
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: All right, we come back.
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: We'll talk about the transfer A portal window on the
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: forty acres is efficiently closed. There is one name that
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: entered the transfer a portal, Amari ny Black. I'll tell
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: you why there's healthy attrition happening on the forty acres,
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: and I'll tell you why the retention is something to
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: celebrate for long run fans. All of that, and we'll
- 1:16:49Speaker 3: get back to some conversations about the NFL playoffs. All
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: that more, right, Hill the craig Ways Show on a
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: AM thirteen.
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: Hundreds his own. I welcome back to The craig Ways Show.
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: Like call it the Free Flag, feel good, fake it
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: till you make it, Rick Flair whooa Football Friday edition
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: of The Craigway Show. I'm not talking about when the
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: rod Berber sitting in for craig Way. One more hour
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: in the show. Got a few things that I want
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: to get into. We'll talk about Texas and the transfer portal.
- 1:17:15Speaker 3: We'll also hear from Craigway spoke with Rodney Terry earlier
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: this week about his upcoming matchup this weekend with Florida,
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: and we'll dive into that audio coming up later on
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: in this hour. We'll also get to the NFC side
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: of the divisional round playoff games. So we got a
- 1:17:34Speaker 3: lot to cover in a short amount of time to
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: do it, So let's get right to it.
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: So, I was looking at the transfer portal departures, the
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: final list, if you will, for the Longe wrns in
- 1:17:46Speaker 3: the transfer portal entries, and it looks like now because
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: of the latest Mari Nay Black news, looks like we
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: have officially the number at ten. So You've got ten
- 1:17:59Speaker 3: players from Texas who entered the transfer portal. And the
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: reason that I view this as healthy attrition long one
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: fans like, this is a this is a this.
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: Is a win, and hopefully it's a win win.
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: Hopefully it's a win for these young men too to
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: go on somewhere else and then they can have a
- 1:18:18Speaker 3: path to play because ultimately, what you celebrate here and
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: you got John Tay Cook and we all remember John
- 1:18:26Speaker 3: Tay Cook. You got dre Bledsoe D lineman John Tay
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: Cook to wide receiver Darien Gallett, the linebacker a Kanna,
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: the linebacker Aaron Bryant, the D lineman, Tia Savea, the
- 1:18:37Speaker 3: D lineman, cornerback jvng Cole, the edge rusher Justice Finkley,
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: and another D lineman, Sir De Mitchell. And you got
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: them right now. But now there is concern about the
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: D lineman you're using because you're losing a lot of
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: D lineman, losing Aaron Bryant, Tia Savella, and Mitchell.
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: You know that's that's a lot of depth you're losing
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: on the defensive line.
- 1:19:00Speaker 3: And in addition to departures for guys who are exalted
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: to eligibility, and guys who are going to the NFL
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: as well, like Alfred Collins and Vernon Broughton. And that's
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: attrition too. That's the best kind of attrition. Guys who
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: are leaving because they're not only because they've exhausted eligibility,
- 1:19:17Speaker 3: but they are draftable prospects who exhausted elgibility, or guys
- 1:19:21Speaker 3: who have declared early for the NFL Draft, and we'll
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: talk about that too, the actually underclassmen who have declared
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: for the NFL Draft for Texas, those are all that's
- 1:19:29Speaker 3: the best kind of attrition that you can have. This
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: is still, in my opinion, positive attrition because you're gonna
- 1:19:36Speaker 3: have attrition with the transfer portal being what it is,
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: and you want to churn out the bottom of your
- 1:19:41Speaker 3: roster to continue to upgrade the talent.
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: You want to have a way to do that. It
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: means to do that.
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: The transfer porter does give you a way to do that. Now,
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: the reason this is positive attrition for Texas is because
- 1:19:53Speaker 3: it's the career starts for the ten players who are
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: leaving are combined Z zero combined courier starts for the
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: players they are leaving, So none of these guys that
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: are leaving were able to penetrate your starting rotations of
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: players or were able to be a significant enough contributor
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: for you.
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: So to me, that's the that's a.
- 1:20:20Speaker 3: Quality like you know, transfer poor experience for Texas that
- 1:20:26Speaker 3: they didn't lose any significant contributors or starters because the
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: attrition is something you cannot help at Texas. At any
- 1:20:32Speaker 3: power program, you're gonna have guys that are just gonna
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: leave the program. And that's natural, that's organic, which you
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: don't want to have are significant contributors and key cogs
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: and starters that are leaving your program to go elsewhere
- 1:20:45Speaker 3: because the grass is greener. Are literally there is more green, right,
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: that's straight cash, homie. And yes, I know that teams
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: are not supposed to tamper and coach I've talked to
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: enough coaches, guys and recruiters bond the scenes tampering, even
- 1:21:02Speaker 3: though there's a rule on the books against tampering. For
- 1:21:04Speaker 3: the NTAA, it is treated like speeding. It is treated
- 1:21:08Speaker 3: just as speeding is. Did you speed today when you drove?
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: Do you observe speeding every day? Do you speed every
- 1:21:14Speaker 3: day you go over the speed limit? Most people speed
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: every day. They may not get called, they may not
- 1:21:20Speaker 3: get a ticket. They speed every day. That's tampering. Everybody's
- 1:21:26Speaker 3: doing it. That's basically looking at somebody else's roster and
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: communicating with them.
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: Now, it may not be directly. It may be indirectly.
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: It may be through a coach, through a high school coach,
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: it may be through a family member. It may be
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: just slide into a DM via some representative of whatever,
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: close friend, shady uncle.
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: It may not be direct. Most of the time it
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: is indirect. But tampering is.
- 1:21:49Speaker 3: Happening, and it's rampant. So that's how the guys know, Hey,
- 1:21:52Speaker 3: I want to go see who my market value is.
- 1:21:55Speaker 3: Or you got to hit the open market to see
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: what your market value is. You got to hit the
- 1:21:59Speaker 3: transfer portal. And if somebody's willing to pay you half
- 1:22:01Speaker 3: a million dollars in nil money for you to transfer there,
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: well you're worth half a million dollars.
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: It's just that simple.
- 1:22:09Speaker 3: And so if Texas can't avoid that, because that's what
- 1:22:13Speaker 3: everybody's dealing with it, not just Texas.
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: And if you can avoid that, guys.
- 1:22:18Speaker 3: Leaving who have been significant contributors, or if that doesn't
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: hurt you, And I think The whole point is you
- 1:22:24Speaker 3: want to avoid that and keep those guys because it
- 1:22:26Speaker 3: also says that, hey, we're willing to pay our players.
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: And I'm not saying Texas has never lost players like that.
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: They've lost players like that, but a lot of times
- 1:22:32Speaker 3: when Texas has lost players of that, it's almost they haven't.
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: They don't mind losing those guys that.
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: In this new era where you have a front office
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: at the college level, you have a GM, you have
- 1:22:46Speaker 3: to make decisions about whether a player is worth the cost,
- 1:22:49Speaker 3: the nil cost because you're INIL is basically your salary camp.
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: That's how much you got to work with, and you
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: don't want to be you won't players.
- 1:22:57Speaker 3: Ultimately, the NFL, they always any you won't play to
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: outperform their contracts. That's how you know you're getting value.
- 1:23:02Speaker 3: You're getting value when a guy outperforms this contract. That's
- 1:23:05Speaker 3: why you like rookie talent, their cheap deals, and you
- 1:23:07Speaker 3: guys to outperform their contracts. If you're paying somebody one
- 1:23:11Speaker 3: hundred million dollars years hard for one hundred million dollar contract,
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: excuse me, and you're paying them twenty thirty million a year,
- 1:23:18Speaker 3: it's hard to outperform that guys, say Patrick Mahomes can
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: do it right.
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: But ultimately that's where your value is.
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: When guys are more of a that you're getting more
- 1:23:29Speaker 3: of a bang for your buck, more of a return
- 1:23:31Speaker 3: on that investment. And the same thing is true now
- 1:23:33Speaker 3: at the college level, at the nil Now, what hurts
- 1:23:37Speaker 3: about college is you don't get to you don't get
- 1:23:41Speaker 3: stability when you recruit players right, you go out of
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: your you know you are bringing this up often. You
- 1:23:48Speaker 3: talk about we're talking about retention now, and some of
- 1:23:51Speaker 3: these guys you don't necessarily want to retain because you're
- 1:23:54Speaker 3: thinking about upgrading and churning out the talent on your roster.
- 1:23:59Speaker 3: And that's why having guys lead, which is with zero stars,
- 1:24:02Speaker 3: and I'm hoping I think you take it even further.
- 1:24:04Speaker 3: I would take it even further and say it's healthy
- 1:24:07Speaker 3: attrition to me when I see them coveted by other
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: power schools, power programs, because then it tells me that I,
- 1:24:15Speaker 3: as you know, the personnel department at Texas, that I
- 1:24:19Speaker 3: have good taste, that I actually did have good projections
- 1:24:23Speaker 3: on this player.
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: They do have a really high ceiling.
- 1:24:27Speaker 3: Now, I'm nothing wrong with a player you know, dropping
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: down a a level in play in a classification in
- 1:24:35Speaker 3: terms of their you know, them being play at the
- 1:24:37Speaker 3: FCS level or them playing at the group of level
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: instead of the power level.
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: But to me, when you have you have ten guys leaving,
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: and nine of the ten have been committed to already
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: another power program. John T.
- 1:24:55Speaker 3: Cook Washington, Mississippi State, dre Bledsoe, me State.
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: And Darian Gled.
- 1:25:02Speaker 3: Both of those guys went to Mississippi State, Akana BYU,
- 1:25:06Speaker 3: Aaron Bryan Vanderbilt, Tisavan and jav And Cole Arizona, Justin Finkley,
- 1:25:12Speaker 3: Kansas and Saedir Mitchell Lsu Mary Now Black will get
- 1:25:15Speaker 3: picked up somewhere, so you'll probably go ten for ten. Now,
- 1:25:17Speaker 3: I know Jhonay Cook is already out of the Washington program,
- 1:25:20Speaker 3: but you get my point. He was coveted has nothing
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: to do with his skill set or his upside or
- 1:25:24Speaker 3: his ceiling as a player. And what you want to
- 1:25:26Speaker 3: know is, hey, man, did I mis evaluate this player?
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: Did I over recruit this player? Did I you know
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: what I mean? Did I miss something in the evaluation?
- 1:25:35Speaker 2: And having another school come right behind you and not
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: only have that player commit, but a lot of times
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: them go there and become significant contributors and become starters.
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: It just said you had a lot of talent stacked
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: to head that player. It's not really an indictment on
- 1:25:48Speaker 3: the player, but just saying that you got a lot
- 1:25:49Speaker 3: of talent stacked ahead of them. And that's how you've
- 1:25:51Speaker 3: been building this roster, stacking talent, talented class on top
- 1:25:55Speaker 3: of talented class.
- 1:25:55Speaker 2: And that's just no pack to play for these guys.
- 1:25:59Speaker 3: And then when you see them with other schools doing well,
- 1:26:02Speaker 3: to me, it's more of a confirmation that your evaluations
- 1:26:08Speaker 3: are on point as a program.
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: And that's that's not always that's how That's how I
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: look at it, so I would there.
- 1:26:14Speaker 3: You know, there's these surveys to talk about, you know,
- 1:26:16Speaker 3: social media and how many people actually look at their
- 1:26:20Speaker 3: excess profiles on social media, and I think most people
- 1:26:23Speaker 3: are doing it. It's harmless and they're just doing it
- 1:26:24Speaker 3: to check on their excess to make sure they're doing okay,
- 1:26:26Speaker 3: and hopefully they get some type of gratification from their
- 1:26:30Speaker 3: exes doing well that they were a part of that
- 1:26:34Speaker 3: and that hey I have I had a good taste.
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: In the end, I knew they were going to be
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: a success, whether in business or with a family, or
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: as a mother or a wife.
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: Because I got good taste. I know how to pick them,
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: I know how to evaluate them. That's how I will
- 1:26:47Speaker 3: look at it anyway. And so I look at the
- 1:26:48Speaker 3: same thing when these guys are in the portal going elsewhere,
- 1:26:51Speaker 3: and I think the retention listen. I said this earlier
- 1:26:55Speaker 3: in my lifetime. I've been looking at it. I've I've
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: pulled a couple of dying pieces in my time. It
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: ain't hard necessarily to pull.
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: A down piece. You can do it. It can be
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: done right.
- 1:27:03Speaker 3: I had NFL to help me and play in that
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: Texas to help me as my as my my pickup.
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: Story if you will. But you can do it. If
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: you're on now.
- 1:27:11Speaker 3: You got right mix of liquor, everything going right that night,
- 1:27:14Speaker 3: you know, boom, the jokes are are working all that.
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: You can pull a dime. It's it's it's easier to
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: pull it down than this. To keep a don piece.
- 1:27:22Speaker 3: Gotta keep them satisfied. I gotta keep them happy, gotta
- 1:27:26Speaker 3: keep them interested. And that's the thing about retention. You
- 1:27:30Speaker 3: got these four of these five star recruits that Texas
- 1:27:32Speaker 3: has all these blue chips, Hey, getting the down piece
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: and recruiting them to campus and getting them to commit. Yeah,
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: that's not that's not that's not easy, but it ain't
- 1:27:40Speaker 3: as hard as keeping them. Now, you got to do
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: that every year because everybody's trying to poach your talent.
- 1:27:46Speaker 3: That's how that's how it goes. So in the new
- 1:27:50Speaker 3: era of n I L and transfer a portal, that's
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: what Texas deal with. And I think they did a
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: really good job this transfer a portal window of a lot,
- 1:27:59Speaker 3: having a lot of positive of attrition and retaining all
- 1:28:01Speaker 3: of your top talent. The only guys that left with
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: guys who have NFL aspirations that were significant contributors, the
- 1:28:08Speaker 3: starters for you.
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: That's healthy attrition for Texas in my opinion.
- 1:28:11Speaker 3: All Right, we come back, we'll get into the NFL
- 1:28:15Speaker 3: Divisional round of the games. On the NFC side, we'll
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: talk about that, and we'll also hear from Craig Wait
- 1:28:21Speaker 3: coming up a little bit, leter On and Rodney Terry
- 1:28:23Speaker 3: talking about their upcoming Texas upcoming matchup, Texas men's basketball
- 1:28:27Speaker 3: upcoming matchup with the Florida Gators. All that and more
- 1:28:29Speaker 3: right here on the Craigway Show on AM thirteen hundred Zone.
- 1:28:32Speaker 3: All right, welcome back to the Craig Way Show here
- 1:28:35Speaker 3: on AM thirteen hundred Zone. I want to get to
- 1:28:37Speaker 3: the NFC side of things, start to preview the divisional
- 1:28:41Speaker 3: round games. On the NFC side, the Detroit Lions and
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: the Washington Commanders. The reason, I mean, there are a
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: lot of great numbers about this matchup, and I'll just
- 1:28:51Speaker 3: take you straight up. I'm taking Detroit because they're the
- 1:28:54Speaker 3: you know, obviously they're the favorite in his matchup, and
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: Detroit does look like a juggernaut. But man, Washington is
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: a fun team to follow right now because of Jayde
- 1:29:03Speaker 3: Dams and how really just how transcendent he's been as
- 1:29:06Speaker 3: a rookie quarterback. I mean, it's the greatest rookie season
- 1:29:11Speaker 3: ever for a quarterback in the NFL. That's I mean,
- 1:29:16Speaker 3: you can, sure you can debate it from a statistical
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: standboyn if you want to, But he's passing the eye
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: test and he's definitely got a lot of achievements under
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: his belt already. One of my favorite stats that's coming
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: out about this matchup is the zero punt, zero turnover
- 1:29:32Speaker 3: stat I'm sure by now maybe you've heard it so
- 1:29:34Speaker 3: since night. So if you go look at overall, it's
- 1:29:37Speaker 3: got to give you perspective of context on this stat
- 1:29:41Speaker 3: there since nineteen fifty actually, there have been forty two
- 1:29:47Speaker 3: zero punt, zero turnover games in the NFL. This comes
- 1:29:52Speaker 3: from Pro Football Talk. But this season it's happened. It's
- 1:29:59Speaker 3: been more prep then there's been in other seasons. The
- 1:30:02Speaker 3: Commanders did it three times, including they just did it
- 1:30:06Speaker 3: in the playoffs against the Bucks, which is freaky to
- 1:30:10Speaker 3: have a game with a rookie quarterback on the road
- 1:30:12Speaker 3: with zero punts and zero turnovers, I believe, Yeah, that's
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: just mind blowing. And also the Detroit Lions did it
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: three times, so the Commanders and the Lions have did
- 1:30:25Speaker 3: it three times. I saw Joe Burrow and the Bengals
- 1:30:27Speaker 3: did it once and Tua did it ones. So basically,
- 1:30:31Speaker 3: out of all the games in the history of the
- 1:30:33Speaker 3: NFL where a team has had zero punts and zero turnovers,
- 1:30:39Speaker 3: Judd Goff and Jane Daniels are basically responsible for seventeen
- 1:30:42Speaker 3: percent of the no turnover, no punt games in NFL history.
- 1:30:45Speaker 3: And they're gonna face off, by the way, that has
- 1:30:50Speaker 3: not happened to have a because it's never happened before
- 1:30:55Speaker 3: to have a team with three zero punt, zero turnovers
- 1:31:01Speaker 3: three games, I should say, with zero punts, zero turnovers,
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: and have those two teams meet in the playoffs like
- 1:31:07Speaker 3: we've just never seen it before. Matter of fact, the
- 1:31:10Speaker 3: two quarterbacks who have engineered an.
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: Offense on the road in the playoffs with zero punts
- 1:31:15Speaker 2: and zero turnovers the only quarterbacks who have done it.
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: Jade Daiels and Peyton Manning are the only two quarterbacks
- 1:31:24Speaker 3: who have engineered a zero punt, zero turnover offensive performance
- 1:31:29Speaker 3: on the road in the playoffs.
- 1:31:31Speaker 2: It's really rare. Point is, both of these teams are
- 1:31:33Speaker 2: very capable of that.
- 1:31:34Speaker 3: Anyway, getting to getting back to the actual matchup, I
- 1:31:38Speaker 3: think a lot of this game is gonna be determined
- 1:31:41Speaker 3: on third down. Lions are the best third down defense
- 1:31:45Speaker 3: in the NFL in terms of third down conversion rate
- 1:31:50Speaker 3: allowed at thirty two. They actually are the number two
- 1:31:53Speaker 3: fourth down defense in the NFL, so they're elite.
- 1:31:57Speaker 2: On third and fourth down money downs, if you will.
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: Washington is top five, number six actually third down conversion
- 1:32:05Speaker 3: rate offensively forty damn near forty six percent.
- 1:32:08Speaker 2: But how about this. Their fourth down conversion rate is
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: the highest in forty years.
- 1:32:14Speaker 3: The Commanders they were three or five versus the Bucks
- 1:32:18Speaker 3: on fourth down, and if you go look at it,
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: they're eighty two percent conversion rate on fourth down and
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: they scored fourteen points excuse me, after fourth down conversions
- 1:32:30Speaker 3: versus Tampa Bay.
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: They've scored I believe now one hundred and twenty nine
- 1:32:37Speaker 2: points on the season following a fourth down conversion. So
- 1:32:42Speaker 2: they played four down football.
- 1:32:44Speaker 3: But the Lions, their defense is the best money down
- 1:32:48Speaker 3: defense arguably in the league. That is something to watch,
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: no doubt. The magic number here is twenty six Washington
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: eleven to zero. When allowing fewer than twenty six points.
- 1:33:00Speaker 3: Detroit some of the best offense in the league. So
- 1:33:04Speaker 3: they they swore more than twenty eight points.
- 1:33:05Speaker 2: That's usually out of the realm of you know, that's
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: the what the offense is capable of, or what the Washington.
- 1:33:13Speaker 3: Commander's offense is capable. It's usually out of their range.
- 1:33:16Speaker 3: But Jane Daniels, I would not doubt the young man.
- 1:33:18Speaker 4: He is.
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: He like I said, he is extraordinary in a lot
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: of ways.
- 1:33:23Speaker 3: Detroit also plays a ton of man coverage. They play
- 1:33:25Speaker 3: more man coverage than anybody in the NFL.
- 1:33:29Speaker 2: So do the Washington Commanders have somebody that can beat
- 1:33:32Speaker 2: Manda man coverage? They do. They got Terry McLaurin. Now
- 1:33:34Speaker 2: this is the key.
- 1:33:35Speaker 3: They're gonna play a lot of manned man on Terry.
- 1:33:36Speaker 3: They're probably gonna double Terry road coverage to and bracket them.
- 1:33:40Speaker 3: Scary Terry, uh will force you to do that. But
- 1:33:43Speaker 3: if they don't, he could cause trouble. He has the
- 1:33:47Speaker 3: most yards on go routes in the NFL, and he
- 1:33:51Speaker 3: has the He has the second most yards gained on
- 1:33:55Speaker 3: go routes and corner routes in the NFL. So go
- 1:33:59Speaker 3: rout and corner routes, nobody's better at running and producing
- 1:34:03Speaker 3: on those routes, and he's been like that his entire
- 1:34:06Speaker 3: career through even twenty twenty one and twenty twenty really
- 1:34:08Speaker 3: high success rates running go routes. The Lions have allowed
- 1:34:11Speaker 3: the second most receiving yards per target on go routes
- 1:34:14Speaker 3: this season.
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: Only the Cleveland Browns are worse. So if they gonna
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: go a man the man, which they.
- 1:34:21Speaker 3: Do more than anybody in the league, they better have
- 1:34:23Speaker 3: a plan for Scary Terry because they don't scary Terry Gone,
- 1:34:28Speaker 3: he's gonna torch him a couple of times, and that
- 1:34:30Speaker 3: those big plays that can end up, you know, really
- 1:34:33Speaker 3: changing the momentum in the game. Also, how does his
- 1:34:36Speaker 3: young rookie quarterback handle the blitz? Now he's handled everything
- 1:34:40Speaker 3: all right, just stupendously so far this year. But this
- 1:34:46Speaker 3: is a The Detroit Lions are an elite team, and
- 1:34:49Speaker 3: they blitz in terms of sitting five or more pass
- 1:34:53Speaker 3: rushers at an opposing quarterback. They blitted the fifth hast
- 1:34:56Speaker 3: rate in the league, So they blitz a lot. And
- 1:34:58Speaker 3: Dang's versus the blitz below sixty percent completion rate, eight
- 1:35:01Speaker 3: point four yards per attempt, five touchdowns, zero interceptions, and
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: a one to ten passer rating. It's actually pretty good. Yeah,
- 1:35:08Speaker 3: he's okay versus the blitz. Nationally versus man coverage, he's
- 1:35:11Speaker 3: pretty good too, nine touchdowns, one reception, ninety eight point
- 1:35:14Speaker 3: seven passer rating versus the blitz. And what you really
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: gotta watch out is him scrambling quarterback scrambles. Detroit has
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: allowed four hundred and forty nine rushing yards on QB
- 1:35:26Speaker 3: runs and scrambles, almost seven yards per rush allowed to
- 1:35:33Speaker 3: quarterbacks on scrambles that is second worst, only behind the Texans.
- 1:35:38Speaker 2: I know, trust me. So the Texans are the worst
- 1:35:42Speaker 2: team arguably at defending quarterback runs and scrambles.
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: Detroit Lions are pretty bad too. So the two things
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: that come back that could come back to Detroit Lions
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: in this matchup. They play a lot of man coverage,
- 1:35:52Speaker 3: ton of man coverage. Scary Terry could break off a
- 1:35:56Speaker 3: couple of bombs on them, and they got to defend
- 1:36:00Speaker 3: Jane Daniels in the scrambled drill because he's great at scrambling,
- 1:36:03Speaker 3: and they got to stop the quarterback run game. Those
- 1:36:06Speaker 3: are kind of the narrow pass to victory for Washington.
- 1:36:10Speaker 3: I think Detroit o brise to the occasion. But like
- 1:36:14Speaker 3: I said, the when a quarterback starts scrambling, when the
- 1:36:16Speaker 3: play breaks down and they started improvising, they're really they're
- 1:36:20Speaker 3: they're the great equalized guys. It really could change the
- 1:36:23Speaker 3: whole entire complexion of a matchup. And that's why Washington's
- 1:36:27Speaker 3: been so successful this year. It's because of James Daniels,
- 1:36:30Speaker 3: but Detroit scoring differential on the season for Detroit plus
- 1:36:34Speaker 3: two twenty two. That is eleventh highest scoring differential in
- 1:36:38Speaker 3: the super Bowl era since the nineteen seventy merger, seven
- 1:36:43Speaker 3: of seven of the previous ten teams who were obviously
- 1:36:49Speaker 3: better or had they higher scored scoring differential than Detroit
- 1:36:54Speaker 3: went to the Super Bowl and five of them won it.
- 1:36:57Speaker 3: So they basically That'stad would say, they got a chance
- 1:37:00Speaker 3: to win the Super Bowl, and they got a seventy
- 1:37:02Speaker 3: percent chance to make it to the super Bowl.
- 1:37:04Speaker 2: I think they will.
- 1:37:05Speaker 3: I was a former Detroit line myself. I kind of
- 1:37:08Speaker 3: celebrate with them. I played for Lions long, and I
- 1:37:11Speaker 3: played for any team. I didn't play for any I
- 1:37:12Speaker 3: didn't play long in the league anyway. But the little
- 1:37:14Speaker 3: time I was there, I spent most of it with
- 1:37:16Speaker 3: the Detroit Lions. Happy to see Detroit Lions actually turning
- 1:37:19Speaker 3: some things around. And that right now is like the
- 1:37:22Speaker 3: hottest ticket I believe of all the tickets in the
- 1:37:25Speaker 3: playoffs right now, I believe it is the most expensive.
- 1:37:29Speaker 2: Ticket, just because I mean Detroit. It's not used to this.
- 1:37:33Speaker 3: Ye, how about this? This comes from tick pick. The
- 1:37:36Speaker 3: average ticket price is nine hundred and ninety one dollars. Apparently,
- 1:37:39Speaker 3: the cheapest you can get for an actual seat is
- 1:37:42Speaker 3: five hundred and ninety seven dollars for that Lion's Commander's game.
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: The most expensive NFL game outside of the super Bowl.
- 1:37:52Speaker 3: They're saying outside of Super Bowls. They're saying, this is
- 1:37:55Speaker 3: the most expensive average ticket price. Yeah, it's a hot ticket.
- 1:38:02Speaker 3: We will see that the Detroit Lions will rise to
- 1:38:05Speaker 3: the occasion. I think the Lions win. I don't know
- 1:38:07Speaker 3: the number is on the note if they cover, but
- 1:38:10Speaker 3: I do think the Detroit Lions end up winning and advancing.
- 1:38:12Speaker 3: We'll talk about the other side of the the NFC bracket.
- 1:38:16Speaker 2: When we come back.
- 1:38:17Speaker 3: We'll get into that, and also we'll hear from Craigway.
- 1:38:19Speaker 3: We'll talk Phillies and the Rams.
- 1:38:20Speaker 2: Speaking of Craigway, the Rams, that's his team, so who'll
- 1:38:24Speaker 2: link it to. We'll talk.
- 1:38:25Speaker 3: We'll hear from Craigway talking to Rodney Terry about the
- 1:38:28Speaker 3: upcoming matchup for the Texas men's basketball team versus the
- 1:38:31Speaker 3: Florida Gators. And we'll also break down his Rams versus
- 1:38:34Speaker 3: the Philadelphia Eagles and then playoffs all that more right
- 1:38:36Speaker 3: here on the Craigways Show here on a thirteen hundred zone.
- 1:38:39Speaker 3: All right, Speaking of Craigway, we sat down with Rodney Terry,
- 1:38:42Speaker 3: head coach of the men's basketball team before their matchup
- 1:38:46Speaker 3: with the Florida Gators coming up on Saturday.
- 1:38:48Speaker 2: You'll hear it right here on a thirteen hundred zone.
- 1:38:50Speaker 3: By the way, just a quick update and also last segment,
- 1:38:54Speaker 3: we'll get to previewing the Rams and the Philadelphia Eagles
- 1:38:58Speaker 3: and then we'll wrap things up. But he's throwing it
- 1:39:00Speaker 3: out there. Adam Schefter is saying this. Most recently, he
- 1:39:04Speaker 3: went on to Pat McAfee's show and said, I don't
- 1:39:06Speaker 3: expect Ben Johnson to be in playing Dallas.
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: He said, I think Jerry has other ideas.
- 1:39:11Speaker 3: I think Ben Johnson has other ideas, And then don't
- 1:39:13Speaker 3: think he's a logical leading candidate there right now, told
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: you Ben.
- 1:39:18Speaker 2: Johnson can have it. He has options.
- 1:39:19Speaker 3: So he's not gonna take the unorthodox, very unconventional hierarchy
- 1:39:24Speaker 3: and chain of command of the Cowboys. No, go to
- 1:39:26Speaker 3: WORL where they will give him more power and they
- 1:39:28Speaker 3: have more stability and it's not as much dysfunction. So
- 1:39:34Speaker 3: if I'm the Cowboys, just go and make go all in.
- 1:39:37Speaker 3: You you want to be more of a TV show
- 1:39:39Speaker 3: than a football team, just make d under head coach
- 1:39:42Speaker 3: and I hus it might work. There's a coin toss.
- 1:39:46Speaker 3: He's basically a coin flip. It may end up working
- 1:39:48Speaker 3: on kaik Wait on the Coaches Show therek Plucker spoke
- 1:39:51Speaker 3: to Rodney Terry about their upcoming matchup for the men's
- 1:39:54Speaker 3: basketball team versus the Florida Gators. That game will take
- 1:39:57Speaker 3: place on Saturday, and Craig Way, of course we'll be
- 1:40:01Speaker 3: on the call and you can hear it right here
- 1:40:03Speaker 3: on AM thirteenth Zone. That coverage will start at two
- 1:40:06Speaker 3: point thirty live from Gainesville tomorrow afternoon. So thanks to
- 1:40:10Speaker 3: Craig Way once again hooking us up with that audio.
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: Appreciate that.
- 1:40:14Speaker 3: We'll come back and we'll get into the NFL's division
- 1:40:18Speaker 3: round games a little bit more. Of course, we haven't
- 1:40:21Speaker 3: gotten into the Rams and the Philadelphia Eagles matchup, so
- 1:40:24Speaker 3: we'll start to preview that one, then our review, give
- 1:40:26Speaker 3: you all of my picks for the divisional round games,
- 1:40:29Speaker 3: and then we'll wrap things up and put them in
- 1:40:31Speaker 3: the oven right here on the Craig Way Show, right
- 1:40:34Speaker 3: here on AM thirteen hundred Zone. All right, welcome back
- 1:40:36Speaker 3: to the Craig Way Show here on the Zone. Craig,
- 1:40:40Speaker 3: we will be back next week. But I appreciate Craig,
- 1:40:43Speaker 3: let me sit in for a couple of days here
- 1:40:45Speaker 3: this week talk some football with.
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: You, considering actually we're talking football. Let's get back to
- 1:40:51Speaker 2: talking football and we'll give you I'll give you my
- 1:40:54Speaker 2: predictions on who I think is gonna win the division
- 1:40:56Speaker 2: round games as well. But let's get to the Rams
- 1:41:00Speaker 2: talking about football, and we're on the Craigway Show.
- 1:41:02Speaker 3: He'd probably be talking about his rounds right now. So
- 1:41:04Speaker 3: it's appropriate Philly versus the Rams.
- 1:41:07Speaker 2: Rams.
- 1:41:08Speaker 3: Man, Listen, I like this Rams team. I don't necessarily
- 1:41:13Speaker 3: think that Philly is a good matchup for him. We
- 1:41:16Speaker 3: started in week twelve, all right, Saint Khon Barcoley ran
- 1:41:20Speaker 3: wild on the Rams two hundred and fifty five yards
- 1:41:24Speaker 3: and if you take away the too long tds, he
- 1:41:26Speaker 3: had his game in that game, his too longest tds.
- 1:41:28Speaker 3: He still went for twenty four for one thirteen. He
- 1:41:32Speaker 3: would have went for twenty four for one thirteen. So it's, man,
- 1:41:36Speaker 3: I wonder can they contain sat Quan Brough to someone?
- 1:41:39Speaker 3: Because I do think you know, they have a good
- 1:41:42Speaker 3: shot and being able to get to Jalen Hurts because
- 1:41:46Speaker 3: that pass rush is pretty ferocious. How they got nine
- 1:41:48Speaker 3: sacks last week on Sam Darnold. I like their pass rush,
- 1:41:53Speaker 3: but can they earn the right to rush the passer?
- 1:41:56Speaker 3: I mean, can you stop the run and forced Phil
- 1:42:00Speaker 3: into predictable passing situations where they got to throw the football? Now,
- 1:42:04Speaker 3: that ain't easy either because then you got to stop
- 1:42:05Speaker 3: aj Brown and Devonte's mienco Either way, I mean, it's
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: a pick your poorson scenario. But I just think for
- 1:42:13Speaker 3: that Rams defense, if they can you know, neutralize the
- 1:42:17Speaker 3: run a little bit, they got a shot. I don't
- 1:42:19Speaker 3: see them being able to do that. He's not gonna
- 1:42:22Speaker 3: run for twenty a fifty five yards on them, But
- 1:42:23Speaker 3: I do think he'll get over one hundred. I think
- 1:42:25Speaker 3: he's been Saeque's been held under a hundred and with
- 1:42:27Speaker 3: five times this year. I do think he'll get over
- 1:42:29Speaker 3: one hundred yards. I mean, you go look at he's
- 1:42:31Speaker 3: got two thousand, one hundred and twenty four rush yards,
- 1:42:36Speaker 3: thirteen hundred of those of coming in second half, so
- 1:42:39Speaker 3: over sixty one percent of them coming in second half
- 1:42:41Speaker 3: of games. That's when he starts wearing now, because he's man,
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: he's a load, and he's a punishing runner.
- 1:42:47Speaker 2: He really is.
- 1:42:47Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, he can make you missing the phone booth,
- 1:42:49Speaker 3: but he's also a punishing loads you have to deal with.
- 1:42:52Speaker 3: And he's got in the fourth quarter alone, basically thirty
- 1:42:56Speaker 3: percent of his yards coming the fourth quarter. I had
- 1:42:59Speaker 3: twenty really starts to impose his will. And that's when
- 1:43:03Speaker 3: I think that running attack of Philadelphia's is gonna separate
- 1:43:06Speaker 3: too from the Rams. I think they'll have a good
- 1:43:08Speaker 3: game plan because Shamanva is one of the best coaches
- 1:43:10Speaker 3: out there. That they out coached Minnesota, I mean that
- 1:43:13Speaker 3: was a coach masterclass. They they broke tendency. Always say
- 1:43:16Speaker 3: you got to break tendency to win big games. The Rams, notoriously,
- 1:43:19Speaker 3: at least this season, have been a heavy zone team.
- 1:43:23Speaker 3: They have made Their man coverage rate is twenty seventh
- 1:43:26Speaker 3: in the league. They doubled their man coverag rate versus Minnesota,
- 1:43:29Speaker 3: So they broke tendency at the right time. What I
- 1:43:31Speaker 3: worry about with the Rams is can they win on
- 1:43:33Speaker 3: money downs? On third down? The Rams are twenty fourth
- 1:43:36Speaker 3: in third down conversion rate, and there if you go
- 1:43:40Speaker 3: look at Matt Stafford on third downs, I don't like it.
- 1:43:46Speaker 2: I don't like his on third downs.
- 1:43:48Speaker 3: He's completing fifty five per cient Hiss passes for five
- 1:43:50Speaker 3: point seven yards per attempt on third down, and Philly
- 1:43:53Speaker 3: has the best third down pass defense in the NFL.
- 1:43:57Speaker 2: You can make that argument.
- 1:44:00Speaker 3: Rams struggle on money downs third down and he struggling
- 1:44:04Speaker 3: in the red zone. Their twenty fifth in red zone offense,
- 1:44:06Speaker 3: Philly's top five in red zone offense and third down defense.
- 1:44:09Speaker 2: It's a bad matchup. That's a bad matchup.
- 1:44:13Speaker 3: Stafford tied this season high in sacks when he played
- 1:44:16Speaker 3: Philly last time too, he had five. He was sacked
- 1:44:18Speaker 3: five times. I don't like that trend. And Sean McVay
- 1:44:23Speaker 3: in road since twenty nine, since twenty eighteen, in road
- 1:44:30Speaker 3: games versus teams that one of least thirteen games, we're
- 1:44:32Speaker 3: talking about elite teams in road games versus teams that
- 1:44:37Speaker 3: are one of least thirteen games, thirteen to one wins.
- 1:44:39Speaker 2: He's two and nine since twenty eighteen. This Eagles team
- 1:44:43Speaker 2: is a good team, and at home they're great. They're
- 1:44:46Speaker 2: thirteen and one at home in the playoffs since twenty Yeah,
- 1:44:51Speaker 2: thirteen to one at home. If you gonna look at
- 1:44:54Speaker 2: thirteen to zero this season when Hirts and aj Brown
- 1:44:57Speaker 2: start and finish the game.
- 1:45:00Speaker 3: Since twenty twenty two. So that's man, that's that's a
- 1:45:04Speaker 3: that's amazing form to be that good there so that
- 1:45:07Speaker 3: good at home and when they're fully healthy, they're also
- 1:45:11Speaker 3: really really tough to be. Another thing that I think
- 1:45:16Speaker 3: is worth tracking in this matchup too. If you're just
- 1:45:20Speaker 3: looking at.
- 1:45:22Speaker 2: Jalen Hurts, he didn't play great last week. He wasn't great.
- 1:45:27Speaker 2: They still, you know, rolled, because Philly's just that good.
- 1:45:30Speaker 2: They weren't great.
- 1:45:31Speaker 3: If Jalen Hurst struggles a little bit, that's something to
- 1:45:33Speaker 3: watch because that'll make things a little close. They will
- 1:45:37Speaker 3: make things closer just because they'll be one dimensional. And
- 1:45:39Speaker 3: if he's struggling, Jalleen Hurst usually turns the football over
- 1:45:42Speaker 3: when he's struggling, so that'll be something to watch as well.
- 1:45:46Speaker 3: But I'll take Philly. I think Philis is a better
- 1:45:49Speaker 3: team and I think it might be a bad matchup for.
- 1:45:50Speaker 2: The Rams too. Overall.
- 1:45:53Speaker 3: U so to recap, even though it's gonna hurt me,
- 1:45:59Speaker 3: I'm gonna takes the city over my Texans because I'm
- 1:46:02Speaker 3: a Texans fan.
- 1:46:03Speaker 2: I'm from age town, so it hurts me. I think
- 1:46:05Speaker 2: the Texas are a year away from being able to
- 1:46:07Speaker 2: challenge Kansas City. Kansas City is just so damn clutch.
- 1:46:10Speaker 2: Gota gave me one more clutch stat about Kansas City.
- 1:46:13Speaker 2: Patrick Mahomes. He's the most clutch player in the NFL history.
- 1:46:18Speaker 3: Went down double digits, especially double digits in the playoffs.
- 1:46:22Speaker 3: Nobody's got a better winning percentage, went down double digits.
- 1:46:25Speaker 3: But how about this that I just found about Mahomes
- 1:46:27Speaker 3: in the fourth quarter. The last time the Chiefs trailed
- 1:46:30Speaker 3: in the fourth quarter was back in the week fourteen
- 1:46:33Speaker 3: versus the Chargers.
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: They won that game out right, nineteen seventeen.
- 1:46:38Speaker 3: Mahomes right now twenty six and twenty six straight up
- 1:46:41Speaker 3: in his career when trailing at any point in the
- 1:46:44Speaker 3: fourth quarter. That is the best mark for any quarterback
- 1:46:48Speaker 3: in NFL history. He's basically he's got a coin flip
- 1:46:53Speaker 3: of a chance fifty to fifty shot to win when
- 1:46:55Speaker 3: he's down at any point in the fourth quarter, because
- 1:46:57Speaker 3: he won't be down by more than one score. That's
- 1:46:59Speaker 3: the thing, very rare, and he's gonna be down by
- 1:47:01Speaker 3: more than one score, which gives him a shot. So
- 1:47:03Speaker 3: with Patrick Mahomes and you always got a chance. And
- 1:47:07Speaker 3: they also thrive when trailing at half. So if you're
- 1:47:09Speaker 3: the Texans and you manage to get a fourth quarter
- 1:47:11Speaker 3: lead on them, and you manage to get up double digits,
- 1:47:14Speaker 3: or you managed to get up by halftime, the chief
- 1:47:16Speaker 3: Since twenty twenty twenty one to twelve, when trailing at half,
- 1:47:20Speaker 3: no other team in the NFL has a win percentage
- 1:47:22Speaker 3: over forty percent. They're at sixty three percent when trilling
- 1:47:25Speaker 3: at half. The rest of the NFL wins about twenty
- 1:47:29Speaker 3: three percent of their games outright when they're trailing at half.
- 1:47:32Speaker 2: The Chiefs is just a different beast star together. So
- 1:47:34Speaker 2: I'll take the Chiefs. I'll also take the Ravens over
- 1:47:38Speaker 2: the Bills. So I'll take Chiefs Ravens in the AFC
- 1:47:41Speaker 2: title game. And I'll take the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 1:47:44Speaker 3: Over the Rams, and give me Detroit to keep the
- 1:47:48Speaker 3: thing going, to keep their this miracle story alive and
- 1:47:54Speaker 3: this Senderella story alive. So I'll take Detroit in Philly
- 1:47:57Speaker 3: in the NFC title game. All right, thanks to Ronald
- 1:48:01Speaker 3: behind the scenes doing a great job. Thank you to
- 1:48:03Speaker 3: Craig Way Andfa camp Parkner for letting me sit in.
- 1:48:05Speaker 3: Thank you to all you guys out there, for listening
- 1:48:07Speaker 3: and for watching. I really appreciate it. Everybody, have a
- 1:48:10Speaker 3: great weekend. Everybody, enjoy all the football and until next time.
- 1:48:14Speaker 3: Hopefully there is a next time.
- 1:48:15Speaker 2: Hook them horns and peace.
