- 0:08Ashley Wilhite: When I was younger, my parents would always say that I was God's favorite and time and time again he showed up in ways that made me remember how much I was His favorite, how much I was his favorite.
- 0:24Ashley Wilhite: And just growing up I know that there were times in my adulthood where I forgot or just kind of put him to the side and didn't remember how much he truly loved me and how much I was truly favored and how I didn't see his blessing.
- 0:43Ashley Wilhite: There were times where it was you just felt dry and you didn't pull closer to him.
- 0:50Ashley Wilhite: And this book is just a reminder of like we're all favored, we are all favored and he, he treasures and values all of us.
- 1:02Daniel Moore: This week on Connecting the Gap, we have an exclusive interview with Ashley Wilhite, the author of her new book, favored.

- 2:31Daniel Moore: I know I learned a lot doing the studying and putting out those episodes myself, and so I do hope that something that happened there over that 12-week period of time did solidify inside of you who you are in Christ and that we are all qualified through Him and no one else.
- 2:47Daniel Moore: So I hope you guys enjoyed that.
- 2:49Daniel Moore: Well, this week we're going to be starting off a few weeks here of some random episodes, and it's my honor this week to welcome a guest to the podcast.

- 3:00Daniel Moore: I go to church with her.
- 3:01Daniel Moore: She's the children's pastor at our church and she has written a new book called Favored.
- 3:07Daniel Moore: It's a phenomenal book.
- 3:08Daniel Moore: If you stick with us all the way to the end of this episode, you can get the details on how to order this book, and I think you'll find this interview very interesting as we work through the details about Ashley's life and where she came from, how she came up to putting this book out and exactly what this book is all about.
- 3:27Daniel Moore: So, without further ado, let's go ahead and get into it for this week.
- 3:31Daniel Moore: Here is this week's interview with Ashley Wilhite.
- 3:34Daniel Moore: Welcome to another episode of Connecting the Gap.
- 3:52Daniel Moore: I'm Daniel Moore, your host.
- 3:53Daniel Moore: Thank you guys for joining us this week and, as I've been talking here over the last couple of weeks and sharing on our social media and our different platforms, I have a guest with me today and we're going to be talking to her about a book that she just authored, and her name is Ashley Wilhite.
- 4:11Daniel Moore: Welcome to the show, ashley.
- 4:13Ashley Wilhite: Thank you so much.
- 4:13Ashley Wilhite: I'm so excited to be here.
- 4:15Daniel Moore: Well, we're excited to have you and I just when I heard you had a book coming out.
- 4:20Daniel Moore: Of course, I've known you for a few years now and when I heard that you had this book coming out, I was like that's pretty cool.
- 4:26Daniel Moore: I've never wrote a book myself before, so it's kind of neat to know.
- 4:30Daniel Moore: I actually get to know several authors here lately, to be quite honest, there's a few people around me that's writing books and that kind of thing.
- 4:38Daniel Moore: But I did finally get a copy of yours and as I was looking, you know, reading through it and everything, I really am very impressed.
- 4:46Daniel Moore: I think it's a very good book and the subject matter that you've covered I think it's going to help a lot of people, and so we're going to talk about that today here in just a little bit, and kind of give people an idea of what they're going to get when they purchase this book.
- 5:00Daniel Moore: Now, they may not get it autographed like I did, but hey, some people are special right.
- 5:06Ashley Wilhite: That's right, that's right.
- 5:08Daniel Moore: So I think what we're going to do here is I just want to give people an opportunity to know Ashley and know who you are, where you come from.
- 5:18Daniel Moore: I always think it's important.
- 5:20Daniel Moore: Everybody has a story.
- 5:22Ashley Wilhite: Absolutely.
- 5:22Daniel Moore: And it's always important to me not to just go through.
- 5:26Daniel Moore: You know a ministry that somebody is a part of or has you know has brought from the ground up, but I always like to know where these people came from and how they even came to that.
- 5:35Daniel Moore: So I think here, as we kick off today's episode, I'd like for you just to share with our listeners just a little about you and your family, Just anything that you'd like to share, just so we can get to know who Ashley Wilhite is.
- 5:46Ashley Wilhite: Yeah, absolutely so.
- 5:49Ashley Wilhite: I was born and raised in Oklahoma so love Oklahoma, big OU fan, so I know your longhorns.
- 5:59Daniel Moore: I didn't hear my longhorns.
- 6:00Ashley Wilhite: Yes, I know I won't hold that against you.
- 6:03Daniel Moore: We'll be friends for today, right?
- 6:04Daniel Moore: Yes, I know I won't hold that against you.
- 6:04Daniel Moore: Okay, we'll be friends for today, right?
- 6:05Daniel Moore: Yes, exactly.
- 6:07Ashley Wilhite: But I did grow up in Oklahoma in a small town called Skyatook, and Skyatook is a little bit north of Tulsa.
- 6:14Ashley Wilhite: My parents were actually youth pastors my entire childhood.
- 6:19Ashley Wilhite: So until I went to college they were still youth pastors and then they transitioned into being pastors, lead pastors at some churches a church in Tulsa and now they're in Glenpool and then they are switching to a church in Turley.
- 6:34Ashley Wilhite: But it has been awesome to be a pastor's kid.
- 6:37Ashley Wilhite: I know there are different sides to being a pastor's kid.
- 6:41Ashley Wilhite: There is the side of you know you're kind of in that bubble where everyone sees you and you have higher expectations.
- 6:48Ashley Wilhite: And I am just so thankful for the parents that I did have.
- 6:52Ashley Wilhite: They had those expectations for us but they didn't push Like when there was something that we did, they just loved us through it and that just took us closer to God instead of pushing us further away.
- 7:11Ashley Wilhite: And you know there were always difficult times in the church.
- 7:15Ashley Wilhite: I was so thankful my parents never really talked about the bad things in the church.
- 7:19Ashley Wilhite: You know every church has its downfalls but they never talked about it in front of us and they kept that side private.
- 7:27Ashley Wilhite: So we knew the good things of the church.
- 7:29Ashley Wilhite: We loved being in God's house.
- 7:30Ashley Wilhite: It was just me and my sister and we loved being in God's house and if there was a black sheep, I was the black sheep.
- 7:37Ashley Wilhite: I like to say I was not even a black sheep.
- 7:39Ashley Wilhite: I'm living on the moon Like I was just out there.
- 7:43Ashley Wilhite: I'm the loud one, you know.
- 7:47Ashley Wilhite: I'm all about just being, especially when I was younger, in the spotlight, like that was what I did.
- 7:52Ashley Wilhite: I did drama, I did show choir and just very theatrical and a big person with a big personality, and my sister was kind of more quiet and reserved, and so that just brought a lot more attention my way.
- 8:08Ashley Wilhite: So I kind of got that like everyone's watching you because you've put yourself there.
- 8:13Ashley Wilhite: But I believe that that is what has brought me to where I am today.
- 8:19Daniel Moore: Mm-hmm, yeah, talking about, you know, pastor's kid, that sounds pretty typical, you know, moving around all over the place all the time.
- 8:27Daniel Moore: That seems to be pretty common with pastor's families and that kind of thing.
- 8:32Daniel Moore: But I was getting ready to say, you know, with your personality, I think, being around you because you do kids ministry at church We'll get into that here in just a little bit but you're a perfect fit for that it's.
- 8:43Daniel Moore: You know, I just always my wife and I as we watch you with the kids and the different events, and just your bubbly personality and out there, that's totally opposite of me, so I'm probably more like your sibling, but it takes someone like you that has a personality like that really to work with kids effectively, I believe yeah, because I don't know something about that just makes the kids feel more comfortable.
- 9:08Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 9:09Daniel Moore: I think when they're around people like that.
- 9:11Ashley Wilhite: so and that's one thing, like I even wrote about it in the book.
- 9:17Ashley Wilhite: But you know, when you're younger and you have those personality traits and some people are like you know well, you're just too loud, you're just too annoying, you're just too annoying, you're just too this.
- 9:26Ashley Wilhite: You know what I mean and how God has placed that already inside of you at a young age and not to discredit it and to know that it is for something and that I may be too loud in some situations and younger, when I was younger, definitely too loud, but I was too loud to grow into what I do today, because if I wasn't that loud I would be drowned out in the midst of all those kids.
- 9:52Daniel Moore: Yeah, no doubt about it, You're outnumbered.
- 9:54Daniel Moore: Yes, so I do think that a lot of times I think that people are kind of suppressed sometimes, because I do know people that has had personalities similar to yours and their parents, especially when they're young the kids are younger I've seen the parents try to suppress.
- 10:11Daniel Moore: You know you need to calm down.
- 10:13Daniel Moore: Calm down.
- 10:13Daniel Moore: You know, don't be so out.
- 10:14Daniel Moore: You need to reel it back a little bit.
- 10:17Daniel Moore: You've heard all the little comments that's been made and you know, back in the day I kind of agreed with that to a point.
- 10:25Daniel Moore: But you know, I don't know.
- 10:28Daniel Moore: As I've gotten older, I kind of understand now more about how I think that that's important for kids to be able to express themselves that way Because, like you said, that is how that they were created by God, right?
- 10:39Daniel Moore: So I think that's super important that you don't suppress that in a child.
- 10:43Daniel Moore: That's going to create who they become later in life.
- 10:46Ashley Wilhite: I love that.
- 10:46Ashley Wilhite: That's like my parents saw that in me and instead of just being like, ok, you have to be quiet, they just gave me different outlets to be that loud self and you know it was hard at times learning when to be quiet and when to be loud, but also gave me my voice.
- 11:04Daniel Moore: Yeah, so that brings us into what you do for your ministry at this point.
- 11:08Daniel Moore: Kind of tell us a little bit about how you've ended up, where you are doing what you're doing, and tell us what you do.
- 11:16Ashley Wilhite: So I moved to Missouri in college and met my husband.
- 11:21Ashley Wilhite: We got married and I went into nursing school.
- 11:24Ashley Wilhite: I actually started in Bible school at Central Bible College, and I knew, though, that God had called me into nursing, and he was like what are you doing?
- 11:35Ashley Wilhite: I said, well, you said to do medical missions and I'll just do the biblical part first.
- 11:40Ashley Wilhite: And he was like no, like do the nursing part first and everything else will fall into place.
- 11:46Ashley Wilhite: Like, but do this first.
- 11:48Ashley Wilhite: And so I was like okay, so I went into nursing and then never really went back and pursued that biblical side, because you know, you get married, you finish nursing, you have kids, and then life just gets away from you, and so I was a nurse full time, and my job actually moved me down to Joplin.
- 12:12Ashley Wilhite: So we were living in Springfield still until 2018, when they launched our campus here our church campus, at the same time, almost within three weeks of each other.
- 12:23Ashley Wilhite: The church campus and my nursing campus were launched at the same time, and so they moved us down here to be.
- 12:31Ashley Wilhite: I was a director of a nursing facility here in Joplin and just worked at that for quite some time, but served faithfully in kids because I just still loved being around kids and served faithfully and right during COVID.
- 12:51Ashley Wilhite: It was 2020 and it was in April, the launch of our new building.
- 12:57Ashley Wilhite: On that launch day in April, some of the pastors had come down and they were like we just want to talk to you and Mark after service.
- 13:06Ashley Wilhite: And I was like, okay, great, and Mark goes.
- 13:08Ashley Wilhite: You know, they're going to ask you to be full-time kids pastor, right?
- 13:12Ashley Wilhite: And I was like oh no, and he was like we're not doing it, like we're not taking it, like that you've got a great job.
- 13:19Ashley Wilhite: That's not what God has for us right now.
- 13:22Ashley Wilhite: Like you're just going to stay where you're at.
- 13:23Ashley Wilhite: And I was like, okay, so I was just preparing myself.
- 13:26Ashley Wilhite: Okay, that's not what we're going to do.
- 13:28Ashley Wilhite: I have to.
- 13:28Ashley Wilhite: Like, you know, if they ask that, then I'm just going to, we're just going to politely decline.
- 13:35Ashley Wilhite: And in the moment we're sitting there.
- 13:38Ashley Wilhite: And they were like, okay, so what's it going to cost us to get you on board working here at the church?
- 13:45Ashley Wilhite: And Mark goes well, let's talk about that and I was like, wait a minute.
- 13:48Ashley Wilhite: I thought you said we weren't going to do that.
- 13:50Ashley Wilhite: So we got in the car and I was like what just happened?
- 13:53Ashley Wilhite: He was like, I don't know, I just felt a prompting and that this is what we should do.
- 13:56Ashley Wilhite: And I was like, oh, would just took that step of faith and went from.
- 14:06Ashley Wilhite: You know, uh, I mean it was a.
- 14:08Ashley Wilhite: It was a big step for us going from nursing to ministry, because I was going from I.
- 14:19Ashley Wilhite: I specialize in Alzheimer's and dementia care, so that was my expertise.
- 14:21Ashley Wilhite: Um, I had tons of qualifications in it, tons of certifications in even teaching how to interact with them, and I was like it's fun how God just put it all together because, not saying that they are like kids, but in a sense, like you get to have, like those people with Alzheimer's, all those elderly people with dementia, they are so sweet and you can talk to them and just hearing their stories and like learning how to help them cope is the same as like helping a kid with, you know, adhd cope.
- 14:58Ashley Wilhite: And so it taught me so many trip uh tricks and tips on how to handle different situations and it's unique in how God worked all of that together.
- 15:13Daniel Moore: Yeah, well, I was an EMT for six years and they are very childlike in nature, yes, and that's a good way for you to explain that there, because when you deal with elderly that are in that condition at that point in their life, they go back to an innocence, to a point kind of like it was when they were a child.
- 15:33Daniel Moore: So you do have to handle them a little differently than you do a normal individual that's not having any of those issues going on.
- 15:40Daniel Moore: So that is awesome how God just kind of put that together and that does mesh very well.
- 15:46Daniel Moore: And, yeah, I think if my wife would have thrown me under the bus like that, I'm not sure what I would have done either.
- 15:51Daniel Moore: I'm like, wait a minute here.
- 15:53Daniel Moore: But that's awesome though and I know, speaking just from someone that attends James River at this point, where we go to church at I think you do a phenomenal job.
- 16:04Daniel Moore: You do an excellent job with the kids there.
- 16:07Daniel Moore: My wife and I did kids ministry for probably about two years.
- 16:10Daniel Moore: We worked in a little church that we went to.
- 16:13Daniel Moore: They didn't really have any children's workers you know how that goes and so the teens were doing it, and our kids were right in the middle of their teenage years, growing up, and every Sunday we'd come home okay, what'd you guys study today?
- 16:27Daniel Moore: You know what would you guys do?
- 16:29Daniel Moore: Oh, we went out and played on the slide and we swung and all this stuff.
- 16:34Daniel Moore: You know we had snack time and like, okay, so what Bible story did we just study this morning and, oh well, we never really got to that, you know, and I'm like okay, so we put up with that for a while.
- 16:46Daniel Moore: We're like okay, this is not going to fly.
- 16:49Daniel Moore: And so my wife and I approached the leadership there and we decided to do that although it wasn't really our calling, because that's another whole part of all of that, obviously and, oh my goodness, I just couldn't do it.
- 17:03Daniel Moore: We did it for about two years.
- 17:05Daniel Moore: I just don't have the patience.
- 17:07Daniel Moore: I'm just not a good children's worker kind of person, and it does.
- 17:11Daniel Moore: It takes a special breed of person to be able to do that.
- 17:13Daniel Moore: But we got it through a couple of years until they finally got some more people in there and we moved on to youth after that and did that for a long time, which is kind of more in my wheelhouse until now.
- 17:23Daniel Moore: I do more of a young adult.
- 17:24Daniel Moore: You just kind of graduate, you know, as you get older, yep.
- 17:28Ashley Wilhite: You can always come back and visit those roots though.
- 17:31Daniel Moore: Yeah, we'll think about that.
- 17:32Daniel Moore: I had to really pray about that one hard, but so what we'll do here, we'll go ahead and transition over into your book.
- 17:41Daniel Moore: Okay, and you've written a book and you've entitled it Favored to your book.
- 17:48Daniel Moore: And you've written a book and you've entitled it favored.
- 17:50Daniel Moore: And, as we've talked a little bit here and got to know you, I think if people see your book when they look it up on Amazon or wherever they have an opportunity to purchase this book, they're going to see that this book artwork reflects your personality.
- 18:00Daniel Moore: That's one of the first things I noticed when I saw the book and started looking through it and everything.
- 18:03Daniel Moore: I was like this is so, ashley, yes, but I think that's important, though, because I think any ministry that a person has is an extension of who they are, right, and so I think that it's very important to feel comfortable in what you're doing within ministry and that kind of thing.
- 18:20Daniel Moore: So I like how you took this concept and put all this together.
- 18:23Daniel Moore: So I know there's a little story behind how you decided yes, I don't want to say how you decided to become an author, how God put this on your heart to do this book, because there's a little story behind this.
- 18:36Daniel Moore: So tell us a little bit about how that came about and why, how this book was birthed.
- 18:41Ashley Wilhite: Yeah, absolutely.
- 18:42Ashley Wilhite: I love sharing this story because it's a story about God's favor and God's faithfulness.
- 18:47Ashley Wilhite: So I would say, probably about, oh, maybe almost 10 years ago, God just gave me a book title and I just kind of like tucked it away and was like, oh, this will be for someone someday, Like I don't know what it'll be.
- 19:02Ashley Wilhite: But I just wrote it down and went on with life.
- 19:04Ashley Wilhite: He didn't ask me to write a book, he didn't ask me to do anything.
- 19:07Ashley Wilhite: He was just like hey, here's a book title.
- 19:10Ashley Wilhite: This will be fun sometime.
- 19:11Ashley Wilhite: And so I just kind of tucked it away.
- 19:13Ashley Wilhite: And then we had, um, so not this, not this year, but the last year we had a week of power.
- 19:21Ashley Wilhite: And so during week of power, I was prayed for and in that moment I was just saying, god, just give me fire, just give me a hunger and a fire for you.
- 19:35Ashley Wilhite: And at that point, I just felt like a little fire had sparked in my stomach and as I continued to seek God, it continued to grow to the point where my whole, like abdomen, was on fire, it was burning, and I was like this is what, what I've been craving, like I just want to be so full of you that I feel it, I know it and um, and at that point it was like this is the start, like this is not where it ends, this is where it starts.
- 20:07Ashley Wilhite: And so I just continued throughout the next couple months with just this fire and this passion just to go deeper with God and just to know Him more and to share Him with more people.
- 20:19Ashley Wilhite: And so, as I began to share and as I began to talk, like, it just continued to grow.
- 20:25Ashley Wilhite: And then I went to Rise Up Conference 2023.
- 20:30Ashley Wilhite: It was their first conference and I didn't really know what to expect.
- 20:35Ashley Wilhite: I'll be honest, it was kind of hard for me going in for the first time because I wasn't a part of the Rise Up team, and so this is the first conference I've attended that I wasn't serving.
- 20:51Daniel Moore: Yeah, it's a lot of difference there.
- 20:53Ashley Wilhite: Yes, and so it was weird being greeted as I walked in and then being seated and then seeing all these people who are typically on my team at church serving me.
- 21:04Ashley Wilhite: And.
- 21:05Ashley Wilhite: I'm like this feels really weird.
- 21:07Ashley Wilhite: You know, and as a pastor, you know, we're taught to worship with one eye open to be making sure that we have a pulse on the temperature of the room.
- 21:16Ashley Wilhite: And so that's the first song started, and that's kind of where my mind went was like, okay, who's bringing the temperature up?
- 21:25Ashley Wilhite: Like you know, how do we go here?
- 21:28Ashley Wilhite: Like what is God doing in the moment?
- 21:30Ashley Wilhite: And I had to stop myself and be like this is not my event, I don't have any hand in any of this, and I just get to worship Jesus, like I can fully focus on him and not worry about who's beside me or who's behind me or who needs prayer.
- 21:45Ashley Wilhite: I get the prayer, I get to focus, I get to push into God.
- 21:51Ashley Wilhite: And so, as I started doing that, that fire started burning again.
- 21:58Ashley Wilhite: And then they had Melissa, who's a prophetic worshiper there and she is phenomenal and I have never been in a service that I can remember that the prophetic.
- 22:13Ashley Wilhite: I've been in a couple of services with prophetic worshipers, but the word was never for me, and it's different when the word is for you.
- 22:20Ashley Wilhite: So she started singing and she sang a phrase of there there's a fire in the room.
- 22:26Ashley Wilhite: There's a fire in the womb.
- 22:27Ashley Wilhite: You're giving birth, but to what you do not know.
- 22:30Ashley Wilhite: And so at first you hear that fire in the room, fire in the womb, you're giving birth.
- 22:36Ashley Wilhite: You could take that a million different ways of like, well, someone's going to be pregnant that hasn't been pregnant before, or, you know, like different things.
- 22:46Ashley Wilhite: And then it just that fire started burning and I was like it was almost like birthing pains, and I was like, oh, that's me, that that word is for me.
- 22:57Ashley Wilhite: And so I held on to that and I wrote it down and I was like, but I don't know what it is, I don't know what God's calling out of me, I have no idea.
- 23:05Ashley Wilhite: And so, um, the next morning, during worship, I just continued to seek him and continue to press in and, um, he brought the book title back and as soon as I saw it in my head, it's like a, a switch flipped and he just started downloading a ton and I couldn't write fast enough to keep up.
- 23:28Ashley Wilhite: I couldn't.
- 23:29Ashley Wilhite: All these thoughts were just flooding through my brain and I was like, god, you're going to have to bring these back to my, my memory later, because I I can't write them all down.
- 23:38Ashley Wilhite: Um, as fast as I'm getting them, and so, um, that's when it started.
- 23:43Ashley Wilhite: It was at Rise Up, and then the story just gets better.
- 23:47Daniel Moore: Yeah, it is amazing when you talked about serving our church is real integrated into being servants and the culture of our church is really wrapped around that, and I understand too, when you're in leadership, that there's a difference there as well.
- 24:05Daniel Moore: Like I said you know before, my wife and I has been youth pastors before and in kids ministry also, and it is hard to go somewhere and not feel like I need to be helping.
- 24:16Ashley Wilhite: Right, exactly.
- 24:18Daniel Moore: Like what do I need to be doing?
- 24:19Daniel Moore: You feel like you're being lazy just sitting in the chair.
- 24:21Ashley Wilhite: I was looking around for pieces of trash that I could pick up, because I was like I've got to do something.
- 24:27Daniel Moore: And in a church setting, it's hard when you're trying to receive from God and these wheels are running in your head, you know, and your head's on a swivel and I understand completely what you're saying there.
- 24:37Daniel Moore: But the RISE conferences I've been to both of them myself and they've been phenomenal.
- 24:42Daniel Moore: They really have.
- 24:43Daniel Moore: I've been to both of them myself and they've been phenomenal.
- 24:44Daniel Moore: They really have, and I think that you know with those conferences they're on point with what they're doing there and lots of things have burst out of those two conferences already.
- 24:54Daniel Moore: It's just unbelievable the work that God has done there.
- 25:01Daniel Moore: So with Favored, since God's downloaded all this into your mind now and you've been, you know, writing and trying to get all this put together, what's the little story behind Favored?
- 25:11Daniel Moore: Why is Favored the title of this book?
- 25:15Ashley Wilhite: You know it's a good question that I absolutely love to answer.
- 25:19Ashley Wilhite: So I absolutely love to answer.
- 25:23Ashley Wilhite: So when I was younger, my parents would always say that I was God's favorite and time and time again he showed up in ways truly loved me and how much I was truly favored and how I didn't see his blessing.
- 25:59Ashley Wilhite: There were times where you just felt dry and you didn't pull closer to him.
- 26:06Ashley Wilhite: And this book is just a reminder of like we're all favored, we are all favored and he, he treasures and values all of us.
- 26:16Ashley Wilhite: And, um, like, like you said about, the cover like I wanted it to be.
- 26:24Ashley Wilhite: So much me.
- 26:25Ashley Wilhite: So when they like I had a team who designed the book cover they designed Havilah Cunningham's books and the first couple of covers they gave me I was like you know what that's not me Like, and so I gave them a couple more boards to work with and one of them was sent back and they're like you are really stretching us.
- 26:46Ashley Wilhite: I was like, yes, but I need it to be me because this is.
- 26:51Ashley Wilhite: I mean, it's not my story, it's God's story and there's not even a lot of my.
- 26:58Ashley Wilhite: I mean, there is parts of my story in it, but it's more about you realizing that you are his favorite.
- 27:07Ashley Wilhite: It's more about your journey and taking you through the journey to realization that you are his favorite.
- 27:16Daniel Moore: My wife.
- 27:17Daniel Moore: I know that the last conference that we went to you kind of gave a little bit of that story and my wife had talked to you after that.
- 27:25Daniel Moore: I believe she struggled with that a lot in her life, and you know both of us.
- 27:30Daniel Moore: She grew up in church also, you know, just like I did.
- 27:34Daniel Moore: But it seems like a lot of times, even as Christians, we struggle with this also.
- 27:39Daniel Moore: You know, it's like we go through things in life and we go to church every week, week, and we do what we're supposed to do and what the Bible tells us to do, and all that kind of thing, but yet we still struggle with that qualification factor of you know.
- 27:54Daniel Moore: Are we really worthy?
- 27:55Daniel Moore: Are we really qualified?
- 27:56Daniel Moore: What does God really think about me?
- 27:57Daniel Moore: Right, right, you know, and we shouldn't.
- 28:00Daniel Moore: The Bible tells us we're not supposed to think that way.
- 28:02Daniel Moore: Right, because we are created in God's image.
- 28:05Daniel Moore: I mean, we are God's hands and feet walking on this earth, but yet Satan likes to come in and say, no, that's not how that is.
- 28:12Daniel Moore: You know, you've got this problem and you've got that problem, you've done this and you've done that, and he starts putting all this baggage on our shoulders and it comes to a point where we think, well, there's no way we can be God's favorite.
- 28:23Daniel Moore: And I'll be honest, I've never really thought of it that way either until I listened to you speak there at the conference, and it does give you a whole different aspect on things.
- 28:34Daniel Moore: It gives you a whole different viewpoint of how to look at your life.
- 28:37Daniel Moore: So the key theme of this book, then, is and it's like a devotional How's that in the equation?
- 28:47Ashley Wilhite: Yeah, okay, 21 day thing, that's a funny story.
- 28:50Ashley Wilhite: So I took an author school through Havilah Cunnington's author school and so I'm just going to back up a little bit.
- 28:58Ashley Wilhite: So when God asked me to write the book last year at Rise Up, that was on a Saturday.
- 29:03Ashley Wilhite: I get home, I talk to my husband about it, it's Sunday afternoon and I get an email in my inbox from Havilah.
- 29:12Ashley Wilhite: You know it's one of those things that she just sends out to everyone on the mailing list of like hey, I have a free mastermind class on how to write a book tomorrow at 7 pm.
- 29:24Ashley Wilhite: And I was like great, Like this is going to be awesome, so I jump on that call watch this live masterclass she gives.
- 29:34Ashley Wilhite: And every excuse that I had to not write the book she blew out of the water.
- 29:40Ashley Wilhite: Like I had excuses, like I go to James River Church, Pastor Debbie could write this book.
- 29:46Ashley Wilhite: Pastor Debbie could write this book, Pastor Savannah could write this book.
- 29:48Ashley Wilhite: There are so many more qualified people that could write this book, why me?
- 29:53Ashley Wilhite: And she blew every excuse I had out of the water.
- 29:59Ashley Wilhite: And then she presents her author school, which is an intense school and it was going to start August 28th and go through December 14th and the whole premise of the school was to take you from having nothing to your first manuscript in hand by December.
- 30:18Ashley Wilhite: And I was like that sounds awesome.
- 30:21Ashley Wilhite: And then they bring up the price and how much that's going to cost.
- 30:24Ashley Wilhite: And at the time I just was like, oh well, I can't do it, Like it's just not going to happen.
- 30:31Ashley Wilhite: And so then I talked to my husband about it and he was like you are God's favorite and you always tell me if it's God's will, it's God's bill, Just leave it at that.
- 30:42Ashley Wilhite: And so he said, go ahead and apply, and if you get in, then you know that this is the direction we're going, and if you don't, then we just take it step by step.
- 30:52Ashley Wilhite: And I was like, okay, you're right.
- 30:54Ashley Wilhite: So I went ahead and applied.
- 30:56Ashley Wilhite: It was August 27th, the day before classes started, and I hadn't heard anything.
- 31:02Ashley Wilhite: Zero, no email, no, anything.
- 31:06Ashley Wilhite: And so I was like, well, I guess I didn't get in and I get a text message.
- 31:11Ashley Wilhite: I remember sitting on the couch, we're all in the living room or watching the TV, and I get a text message and I jump up and I run to the bedroom and Mark's like what is happening.
- 31:22Ashley Wilhite: The text message just said hey, this is Havilah.
- 31:32Ashley Wilhite: I really want you in this class.
- 31:32Ashley Wilhite: Can you jump online and just make sure all of your information is correct.
- 31:34Ashley Wilhite: We've got the right phone number, the right everything.
- 31:36Ashley Wilhite: You just get on and check your profile.
- 31:38Ashley Wilhite: And I was like absolutely so.
- 31:40Ashley Wilhite: I just run to the bedroom, I jump online, I'm checking my profile, you know it says name Ashley Wilhite.
- 31:50Ashley Wilhite: Date of birth you know phone number.
- 31:51Ashley Wilhite: I'm checking everything and I get down to the bottom where it says payment and I look across and it just said free.
- 31:56Ashley Wilhite: And I was like favorite, I am Kat's favorite.
- 32:03Ashley Wilhite: And so I'm just bawling and my husband comes in.
- 32:06Ashley Wilhite: He thinks someone died, Like he has no idea what's happening.
- 32:10Ashley Wilhite: And so I tell him and he's like I guess we're doing this.
- 32:13Ashley Wilhite: And so within one year of that happening, I had my manuscript done.
- 32:22Ashley Wilhite: But back to your original question question through that we were in mastermind classes and so this book was actually going to be just a 10 chapter book and so I'm sitting there and putting together like all the ideas and all the illustrations and kind of lining out the book, and a couple things happen.
- 32:43Ashley Wilhite: First of of all, one of the coaches stopped me and said time out, this isn't just one book.
- 32:52Ashley Wilhite: You've got at least five books here, so this isn't going to be a one done, You've got more.
- 33:00Ashley Wilhite: And I was like, excuse me, God didn't tell me to write more.
- 33:03Ashley Wilhite: And they were like excuse me, God didn't tell me to write more.
- 33:07Ashley Wilhite: And they were like they like pointed out, like these are different books, Like these don't all fall into this category and God is giving you these for later.
- 33:13Ashley Wilhite: And then, as I started writing, I was in chapter eight, so almost done with creating it.
- 33:20Ashley Wilhite: And this is mid-November.
- 33:21Ashley Wilhite: And this is mid-November.
- 33:23Ashley Wilhite: The book is due.
- 33:24Ashley Wilhite: The first manuscript is due December 14th.
- 33:27Ashley Wilhite: And the coach looks at it and goes, no, this doesn't feel right.
- 33:34Ashley Wilhite: And I was like what do you mean?
- 33:36Ashley Wilhite: Like what doesn't feel right?
- 33:37Ashley Wilhite: Like all the feedback I've gotten on my content is good and they were just like.
- 33:44Ashley Wilhite: I feel like this needs to be a devotional.
- 33:45Ashley Wilhite: And I was like well, what does that look like?
- 33:48Ashley Wilhite: I was just told to write a book.
- 33:50Ashley Wilhite: Like, what does it look like to write a devotional?
- 33:53Ashley Wilhite: And they were like well, why don't you start with taking each chapter and dividing it into two?
- 34:00Ashley Wilhite: So you just are dividing the chapter in half and you're saying this is one day and this is another day.
- 34:06Ashley Wilhite: And then, and they were like, because there's so many big ideas and so many, because this is taking people on a journey, you want them to have time to set on it.
- 34:19Ashley Wilhite: Mm-hmm.
- 34:20Ashley Wilhite: And to settle on it, where, when some people pick up a book and it's just 10 chapters, they're going to sit down on one day and they're just going to read all 10 chapters while sitting on the beach or on vacation.
- 34:30Ashley Wilhite: But you really want them to chew in not just what you're saying, but they're going to take part in their life and becoming truly who God has called them to be and his favorite.
- 34:52Ashley Wilhite: And so in a month, I had to restructure the entire thing.
- 34:58Daniel Moore: Oh man.
- 34:59Ashley Wilhite: Split it all out, and then, in doing so, there is one section in the book that is called biblical snapshots, and these biblical snapshots were not in the book when it was going to be 10 chapters.
- 35:17Ashley Wilhite: They were not in there.
- 35:18Ashley Wilhite: They were just kind of I would just talk about some things or weave them in, and as I went to the devotional part, that's when God was like no, you need to give the full description of their story and how I view them and how they're my favorite, and so that was something that in that last month, I had to write 21 stories of who God's favorites are in the Bible.
- 35:54Ashley Wilhite: Pete.
- 35:54Daniel Moore: No pressure, jennifer no pressure.
- 35:58Ashley Wilhite: And it's holiday season.
- 35:59Ashley Wilhite: You know it's holidays, but I knew that if I just stuck to it and I did it, you know that first draft was going to be done and I was going to be able to breathe.
- 36:09Ashley Wilhite: And, sure enough, on December 14th, which coincidentally was my son's birthday, I was able to just present and be like I'm done, the first script is done, it is finished.
- 36:24Ashley Wilhite: And then we went through and did editing and all that, but yeah, it was never supposed to be a 21-day devotional.
- 36:32Ashley Wilhite: God just steered it that way.
- 36:34Daniel Moore: Well, and it came out perfect because you would not know that story was in this just by reading this, because you did an excellent job at putting this all together, and so let's just kind of walk through a chapter.
- 36:45Daniel Moore: Yeah, because pretty much you know, most of all of your chapters are, you know, formatted the same.
- 36:52Daniel Moore: I'm looking at chapter 11, day 11 here.
- 36:54Daniel Moore: So with each chapter that you come into, what can, what is a person going to, what can they expect when they open this book up?
- 37:03Daniel Moore: Because you do have it kind of divided out.
- 37:06Daniel Moore: So kind of give us the format here that you've done for your chapters.
- 37:11Ashley Wilhite: So each day starts with a different question.
- 37:13Ashley Wilhite: So we kind of take you from the book itself, takes you from what is being God's favorite to why would I want to?
- 37:24Ashley Wilhite: What does that look like?
- 37:25Ashley Wilhite: To actually learning to see it.
- 37:28Ashley Wilhite: And so it takes you on this journey, and so we're using day 11 as an example.
- 37:33Ashley Wilhite: So that question, that first question, is is God's favor, in disguise, like, is it coming in a way that I don't see it?
- 37:43Ashley Wilhite: Is it coming?
- 37:43Ashley Wilhite: in a way that I don't see it, and then the page right next to it has a phrase or it has a quote from that day.
- 37:54Ashley Wilhite: And so I had a team of people who were reading with me when I was writing and I would ask them, you know, like, as you read this, tell me what your favorite like, what was the main thing you highlighted, or what was your favorite quote from that part.
- 38:08Ashley Wilhite: And so then I took their favorite quotes and then that's what ended up being there.
- 38:13Daniel Moore: I like that.
- 38:18Ashley Wilhite: And then it just goes into the content.
- 38:19Ashley Wilhite: So usually in each day there is a personal story, there's some practical application, there is an illustration and a quote from someone other than myself, and scripture.
- 38:36Ashley Wilhite: I tried to incorporate all five of those in every day and I think that's what really has kept a lot of people's attention, and so you read that day and then at the end is what I had talked about a minute ago is the biblical snapshot, and so there's a biblical snapshot at the end of every day and really those are just people that God pointed out to me of like this person was my favorite and this person was my favorite and this person was my favorite Because I don't know, like, in writing the book and telling people I'm writing about how like I'm God's favorite, and they always bring up the scripture that says God does not play favorite, and I'm like, but you're taking it out of context.
- 39:17Ashley Wilhite: What he's talking about.
- 39:19Ashley Wilhite: He's talking about judgment.
- 39:20Ashley Wilhite: We're not all judged differently.
- 39:23Ashley Wilhite: He judges us on the same criteria, but in our life, the blessings he gives are determined on our favorability, like what we have done, like and how much he loves us.
- 39:38Ashley Wilhite: Not how much he loves us, because he loves us all the same, but how close we are to him and how we're seeking Him and how we steward what he's giving us.
- 39:48Ashley Wilhite: And then the last part of the day is one of my favorites.
- 39:54Ashley Wilhite: It's called the Fave Review, and it took me a while to come up with that, especially knowing that in the beginning there wasn't even going to be any kind of questions or review.
- 40:05Ashley Wilhite: But what it is is, it is parts of questions.
- 40:11Ashley Wilhite: So F stands for faith.
- 40:13Ashley Wilhite: So I ask that you take some time and ask God these questions.
- 40:19Ashley Wilhite: So the first part, it is questions that are just between you and God.
- 40:22Ashley Wilhite: You're taking those questions to God like show me this.
- 40:26Ashley Wilhite: Like in day 11, it says what are you facing?
- 40:31Ashley Wilhite: That may be a blessing in disguise.
- 40:33Ashley Wilhite: God, show me what you're trying to bless me with.
- 40:35Ashley Wilhite: That I'm seeing as something else.
- 40:37Ashley Wilhite: In what areas do I need joy?
- 40:40Ashley Wilhite: And then A is for activated.
- 40:43Ashley Wilhite: So these are steps or actions for you to take that day.
- 40:46Ashley Wilhite: These are things for you to go out and do.
- 40:50Ashley Wilhite: This is a mindset shift.
- 40:54Ashley Wilhite: So, activated, what can I do now to start this in my life?
- 40:59Ashley Wilhite: So one was find a song that brings you strength, an anthem for this time.
- 41:04Ashley Wilhite: And the second one was ask for joy.
- 41:07Ashley Wilhite: Choose joy.
- 41:08Ashley Wilhite: V is vision.
- 41:12Ashley Wilhite: Where will this take me in the future?
- 41:15Ashley Wilhite: I will conquer any situation with joy because the joy of the Lord is my strength and I am strong and joyful.
- 41:23Ashley Wilhite: So those are just things like just little pieces of this is where I'm going.
- 41:28Ashley Wilhite: I may not feel that right now, I may not feel strong and joyful, but this is where I'm headed, this is what this is going to look like in the future, and then exclaim that is where you're going to exclaim that you are God's favorite.
- 41:42Ashley Wilhite: You're going to write it, you're going to believe it, you are going to live in it.
- 41:46Daniel Moore: Well, I think one thing that's important because you did mention the first question people ask you is about God having favorites and playing favoritism.
- 41:55Daniel Moore: But, like you said, it is in context and I think, as people read through these chapters, I really feel like the snapshot part is these chapters.
- 42:08Daniel Moore: I really feel like the snapshot part is it was something that was definitely needed to go with your chapters, to intertwine into what you've written with your life story.
- 42:14Daniel Moore: Yeah.
- 42:15Daniel Moore: Because when we look at, you know, with God, with us being favorites, god will do anything and everything for any of us.
- 42:23Daniel Moore: You know there's no person that he's going to do less than for them or he's going to do more than for this other person.
- 42:30Daniel Moore: A lot of that, just you know, revolves around the walk that we have with God and the communication that we have with Him and that life that we live as a Christian and in all reality.
- 42:40Daniel Moore: All of us can unlock any of these blessings and any of these things that God wants to do for any of us.
- 42:45Daniel Moore: We can all unlock that.
- 42:47Daniel Moore: We just have to, and the favoritism things that he might show towards you is going to be probably different with the things he's going to show to me, but he's still going to take care of me and he's still going to take care of you, and so I think that that is definitely something that this book accomplishes is to help people to have more of an understanding that it's not just one verse in the Bible that we're going to stand on Right hey, god's not playing favoritism, you know you can't say that Right it is.
- 43:17Daniel Moore: It's looking at favoritism in a whole different light, and I like the acronym.
- 43:22Daniel Moore: I think that's really cool because you did that in every chapter and you pulled all that together and studies show when you do things like that, that helps people.
- 43:31Daniel Moore: It ingrains it in their mind.
- 43:33Daniel Moore: They start remembering stuff when there's repetitiveness.
- 43:36Ashley Wilhite: After you read this book, you'll never forget faith.
- 43:38Ashley Wilhite: Yeah, that's right.
- 43:39Daniel Moore: It'll be there forever.
- 43:40Ashley Wilhite: Faith activated vision and exclaiming yes.
- 43:41Ashley Wilhite: Faith activated vision and exclaiming yes.
- 43:44Daniel Moore: So what do you pray that the key takeaways are for your readers when they finish reading this book?
- 43:50Daniel Moore: What is your goal you think that God laid upon your heart to accomplish with putting this book out there?
- 43:56Ashley Wilhite: Yeah, I think mainly I mean it's favor.
- 44:00Ashley Wilhite: You know just that they truly are God's favorite.
- 44:04Ashley Wilhite: It doesn't matter what the storm of life that they're going through, it doesn't matter where they've been, because they're not defined by their past.
- 44:14Ashley Wilhite: They're defined by who he says they are and just that they can live in the joy and the peace and the love of God.
- 44:23Ashley Wilhite: And just knowing that.
- 44:24Ashley Wilhite: There's nothing that can take that away from me.
- 44:27Ashley Wilhite: I am God's favorite and he's going to bless me and he's going to love me and I'm going to love him through through the storm.
- 44:37Daniel Moore: And you've got a statement here in day two.
- 44:40Daniel Moore: It says to be God's favorite.
- 44:42Daniel Moore: We don't have to guess what he likes.
- 44:43Daniel Moore: He tells us we can know precisely what he is looking for in us.
- 44:48Daniel Moore: What it says, that's right.
- 44:53Daniel Moore: It just kind of brings it all full circle back to we have this roadmap that if we stay true to reading and studying that Word every day, there's no way that we're going to think that we're not His favorite.
- 45:05Daniel Moore: There's no way that we could ever let that cross our mind, because he tells us, you know, he even cares about the little sparrows and all the little bitty, tiny things that we put off to the side as minute and whatever he still that's very important to Him.
- 45:20Daniel Moore: And if those smallest things, then there's no way that the things that happened to us in our life, that he would not care about that as well.
- 45:29Daniel Moore: And you know so we're about to our time frame here, but I think we've got a good handle here on what you've done with this book and I just I encourage any people out there that love to read, or if you even don't like to read, you need to make yourself read it, because I think that it's important to read through the material that's in this book, if anything just to solidify who you really are in Christ and what God really does think about you, and I always think about the people that don't stay in the Word on a regular basis.
- 46:01Daniel Moore: It's real easy for those kinds of people to get down and discouraged and, you know, feeling like they're just not important.
- 46:07Daniel Moore: Why would God do that for me?
- 46:09Daniel Moore: I'm just this person here and I'm, you know I'm not worth that, but I think this book hits a lot of those areas and, you know, helps people to grow in their areas that they're weakest, and so I would advise anyone out there to get a hold of this.
- 46:24Daniel Moore: So, with that being said, you do have an online store on your website, yes, and the book can be purchased there.
- 46:32Daniel Moore: So tell us all the places that this book can be picked up.
- 46:35Daniel Moore: Give us your website address, how that people can contact you as well.
- 46:39Ashley Wilhite: Yeah, so I do have a website.
- 46:46Ashley Wilhite: It is called livefavoredcom, so L-I-V-E-F-A-V-O-R-E-Dcom, livefavoredcom, and you can get the book there, you can get the journal there, but, honestly, the best place to get the book is on Amazon.
- 46:57Ashley Wilhite: You're going to get it a whole lot faster on Amazon.
- 46:59Ashley Wilhite: You can look it up there.
- 47:02Ashley Wilhite: It's called Favored A 21-Day Journey to Becoming God's Favorite.
- 47:06Ashley Wilhite: But on my website, there are some other things available there as well.
- 47:10Ashley Wilhite: They've got bookmarks, we've got decals, we've got some merch that we're working on some shirts and some little purses, which are going to be super cute and super fun to have.
- 47:22Ashley Wilhite: That just say I am God's favorite.
- 47:24Ashley Wilhite: It's just a daily reminder.
- 47:25Ashley Wilhite: We need that.
- 47:27Ashley Wilhite: And then there are also some services listed on there, and when I was a nurse, they went ahead and helped me get certified in all kinds of life coaching, because I had a team of 100 employees underneath me that I was having to coach, and so I became a life coach, a goal coach and even a family coach, because a lot of those people were from broken families or were struggling with parenting their kids, and so I just came alongside them to help them, and so I thought I would offer that on the website alongside them to help them, and so I thought I would offer that on the website and so, if you're looking for anything like that, it is all Bible based, it is all based on scripture and we would just.
- 48:13Ashley Wilhite: The first session is free because it's a service and you know we want to give you, I want to give you the best start to your life that I can, and there's also a way to book me for speaking engagements.
- 48:30Ashley Wilhite: I know God's going to take this book and he's going to use it and he's going to get it in the hands of people it needs to be in.
- 48:37Ashley Wilhite: But if you are from any kind of church and you have any small groups, if you have large groups, women's events, like I am a kids pastor, so if you have a kids event or a youth event, I would be more than delighted and excited to come and be a part of that.
- 48:57Daniel Moore: Yeah, and you do have a speaking engagement coming up, I believe, on the other side of Springfield here in a month or so, don't you engagement?
- 49:05Ashley Wilhite: coming up, I believe, on the other side of Springfield, here in a month or so don't you?
- 49:06Daniel Moore: The one in Seymour happened last week.
- 49:07Daniel Moore: Oh, it was last week.
- 49:08Ashley Wilhite: Yes, and I have another one, though that is tonight.
- 49:12Daniel Moore: Okay.
- 49:13Ashley Wilhite: So it is tonight, but it's in Oklahoma, it's in Tulsa, and so I have both of those.
- 49:18Ashley Wilhite: So the Worthy Conference was last week and then this one is the Woodlake Women's Conference's Sisterhood Night.
- 49:34Daniel Moore: So that is Okay.
- 49:34Daniel Moore: So both of those will be bypassed by the time this goes out, but that does give you an idea, as the listener out there, of the types of events that you're speaking at.
- 49:40Daniel Moore: So that way, if someone does want to inquireire now, can they get ahold of you through the website.
- 49:45Daniel Moore: What's the best way to get ahold?
- 49:46Ashley Wilhite: of you.
- 49:47Ashley Wilhite: You can get ahold of me through the website.

- 51:05Daniel Moore: I think that we should always take advantage of that.
