- 0:29Speaker 1: and money the money you make for the hours you work,
- 0:33Speaker 1: y'all need a union. I'm just gonna put it out
- 0:35Speaker 1: there anyway. That's one two. When you want something done,

- 1:04Speaker 3: You're building tattooing.
- 1:06Speaker 1: No, I'm just building a set uh, a sand like planet. Uh.
- 1:12Speaker 1: From watching there.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Is there a YouTube video that's like how to build
- 1:15Speaker 3: tattooing And.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I've been watching a lot of YouTube, a lot of
- 1:20Speaker 1: a lot of a lot of YouTube. Like I'm like,
- 1:23Speaker 1: I'm like the kids nowadays. How about you? How are
- 1:25Speaker 1: you guys doing?
- 1:26Speaker 3: No please go on and on about stopping emotional. We

- 1:34Speaker 3: about what do you think the union rates should be
- 1:36Speaker 3: for these people?
- 1:37Speaker 1: You know what's crazy is that you're being facetious. You
- 1:41Speaker 1: got and I know Joelle's not, but I know you are. Zach.
- 1:45Speaker 1: I do believe that all Star. I think the community
- 1:48Speaker 1: of stop motion needs a union. But you know what
- 1:52Speaker 1: happens when people talk about union, You wind up buried
- 1:55Speaker 1: where nobody can find you.
- 1:58Speaker 3: All Right, Well, I do you think in the terms
- 2:00Speaker 3: of a Scrubs rewatch podcast, we've done a good, solid
- 2:04Speaker 3: five minutes on stop motion. Should we segue into a
- 2:08Speaker 3: topic they might be interested in? If I tell you something,
- 2:21Speaker 3: to be surprised. I'm watching that you should be watching.
- 2:23Speaker 3: I know you don't watch things, but it's really good, Joelle,
- 2:28Speaker 3: you're going to be shocked. To drum roll, I'm strapped in.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Penguin O.
- 2:35Speaker 4: It's a good freaking show.
- 2:36Speaker 1: That's easy to get sucked.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Are you watching it?
- 2:39Speaker 2: Donald?
- 2:39Speaker 1: I saw the first episode. It was very good.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Colin Ferrell is very, very good.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Yeah, he's very good.
- 2:45Speaker 3: It's very good Colin Colin Ferrell. You know, even under
- 2:49Speaker 3: all those prosthetics, you think sometimes the performance can get lost.
- 2:53Speaker 3: But he's such a good actor.
- 2:56Speaker 1: He doesn't overdo it. He doesn't overdo it, you know
- 2:58Speaker 1: what I mean. He keeps it simple.
- 3:00Speaker 3: And that accent. He's got the tough guy gangster accent down.
- 3:04Speaker 3: And everyone's very good in it. Very it's it's really
- 3:08Speaker 3: well made.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I wonder, I wonder how all of this fits
- 3:12Speaker 1: into I know it fits in. It doesn't fit into
- 3:16Speaker 1: the Joker story, but I know it fits into the
- 3:19Speaker 1: Batman story that matt Reeves was doing.
- 3:24Speaker 5: That.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I think this Colin is going to play the
- 3:26Speaker 3: penguin in matt Reeves movie. Is that correct you?
- 3:29Speaker 4: Well, he already was, so he showed up in The
- 3:31Speaker 4: Batman by matt Reeves, and then he'll be in the
- 3:34Speaker 4: second one as well. He just announced he's in like
- 3:36Speaker 4: five or six scenes in the new one.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Well, he's only in three scenes in the first one too.
- 3:42Speaker 2: M hm.
- 3:43Speaker 1: He's a small time he's a small time crook.
- 3:45Speaker 3: It's interesting though, not seeing Batman at all. I wonder
- 3:50Speaker 3: why they chose to not show the Joker or Batman
- 3:53Speaker 3: at all.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Well, the sequel I hear the sequel series is the
- 3:56Speaker 1: Joker will be uh your boy. Yeah, that'll be the sequel,
- 4:02Speaker 1: the sequel series next season.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Oh, so Colin's not going to do season two from
- 4:08Speaker 3: what I.
- 4:09Speaker 1: From what I understand, there's going to be a Joker
- 4:11Speaker 1: series as well as what I heard.
- 4:14Speaker 4: Well, he talks to a Joker series. The Joker is
- 4:17Speaker 4: the next villain in the Batman story, like the main
- 4:20Speaker 4: primary villain in the second Batman movie.
- 4:23Speaker 3: So we'll see.
- 4:24Speaker 4: But I hope, I hope, I hope they get a
- 4:26Speaker 4: lot of Spinosa's rumors. There could be a Catwoman series
- 4:29Speaker 4: with Zilly Kravitz, so let's see. Matt Reeves is really
- 4:33Speaker 4: doing a ton of Batman work over at WB right now.
- 4:35Speaker 4: I sent Donald the animation he's working on right now,
- 4:39Speaker 4: which looks beautiful and weird and cool. It's like robots
- 4:43Speaker 4: and puppets stop motion.
- 4:44Speaker 3: It's interesting. He's a busy guy. Colin Ferrel is a
- 4:47Speaker 3: busy guy. Gosh, he's he's got two series going. He's
- 4:51Speaker 3: got the other one too.
- 4:52Speaker 2: You know.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Also is a busy guy who is still the Winter
- 4:56Speaker 1: Soldier kid. What's his name? Yeah, shit, you're a busy man,
- 5:01Speaker 1: Sebastian stand.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Yeah, he's in a lot of things. Good actor.
- 5:05Speaker 1: I also noticed that our complete box set is number two.
- 5:09Speaker 1: You know, why is that iTunes?
- 5:11Speaker 3: How did that happen?
- 5:13Speaker 1: I don't know. It's Rebels and then us.
- 5:15Speaker 3: For some reason Scrubs fans listeners. I don't know why,
- 5:20Speaker 3: but we're the number two thing for sale on the
- 5:24Speaker 3: iTunes store.
- 5:25Speaker 1: It's amazing. Rebels is number one, Believe it or not.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Rebels is number one, and the Complete Scrubs box set
- 5:33Speaker 3: is number two. What do you think could have happened?
- 5:36Speaker 3: Could it be this podcast?
- 5:38Speaker 1: You know?
- 5:39Speaker 3: I doubted.
- 5:40Speaker 1: It really has to do with the fact that Bill
- 5:44Speaker 1: has been talking so much.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Shit oh about a reboot?
- 5:48Speaker 1: You think, yeah, And I think people are trying to
- 5:50Speaker 1: catch up.
- 5:52Speaker 3: I did they offer it at a new price point
- 5:54Speaker 3: or something. I just it just was surprised. I was
- 5:57Speaker 3: looking for a show and I was slipping through Apple
- 6:01Speaker 3: and then I saw the number two TV thing for sale.
- 6:05Speaker 3: It's Scrubs box set. I was like, what the hell happened.
- 6:09Speaker 1: It has to feel good. It felt good to me.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Yeah, made me smile. You know I didn't. I didn't
- 6:14Speaker 3: know what the raised on debttra.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Do you want to I want to ask him some matches.
- 6:21Speaker 1: My name sounds like my name. I want to ask.
- 6:23Speaker 1: I wanted to ask you this because I do this,
- 6:26Speaker 1: and I don't think it's healthy. But sometimes I catch
- 6:30Speaker 1: myself doing it because I watch a lot of movies.
- 6:34Speaker 1: You know how they have the top one hundred movies.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Do you ever go through that ship and see how
- 6:39Speaker 1: many movies you in?
- 6:42Speaker 3: No, because I don't think one hundred movies.
- 6:50Speaker 1: So when you go through sports movies, I'm in I'm
- 6:52Speaker 1: in top Oh.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't. I don't know that I'm in a
- 6:55Speaker 3: top one hundred movie.
- 6:57Speaker 1: I wish when you go through like Coming of Age store,
- 7:00Speaker 1: I'm in the top.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Oh, I'm talking about all I thought you I assume
- 7:04Speaker 3: you were talking about all movies.
- 7:06Speaker 1: And then when you go through all movies. At one point,
- 7:09Speaker 1: I had like six or seven movies in that shit,
- 7:11Speaker 1: and I was like, I'm fucking doing it. As time
- 7:14Speaker 1: goes on, Timothy Shallamine is taking my spots man, That
- 7:19Speaker 1: mofuck is in everything, dude, That dude is in everything, man,
- 7:24Speaker 1: Like all of great movies are his or Florence Pugh's.
- 7:28Speaker 1: They are all over the place.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Man, Generation generation is killing. I would imagine your football
- 7:35Speaker 3: movie would maybe be in the top one hundred.
- 7:37Speaker 1: It was no. You know what when it comes to
- 7:39Speaker 1: top one hundred movies, remember the Titans on iTunes is
- 7:44Speaker 1: rarely in it? Clueless is like ninety five usual?
- 7:48Speaker 2: What about homiees Pimoni?
- 7:50Speaker 1: Never it? I don't think that's made a top anything.
- 7:54Speaker 3: What about top movies were where an African American plays
- 7:57Speaker 3: an Italian person?
- 8:00Speaker 1: I think Vin Diesel is in a couple of those.
- 8:09Speaker 3: What else did I watch?
- 8:13Speaker 1: Yeah, Joey, you know him right too? You know right?
- 8:16Speaker 1: Joel Ben I.
- 8:21Speaker 4: Was like, he's there's a black relative in there somewhere.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Got more than one black relative, he's one of us.
- 8:27Speaker 1: What's going on? Ben? Stop fronting?
- 8:32Speaker 3: And I don't get it. Vin Diesel's black.
- 8:35Speaker 4: No Vin Diesels to pop up in a lot of
- 8:38Speaker 4: movies that like black audiences would flock to.
- 8:42Speaker 1: I just like and.
- 8:43Speaker 4: He he's got my features where he's like you if
- 8:48Speaker 4: I don't know if you like me. I'm from a
- 8:50Speaker 4: very mixed family, and so some of our relatives passed
- 8:52Speaker 4: for white, and so sometimes you look at white pertus
- 8:54Speaker 4: you're like, are you one of us? I'm trying to
- 8:56Speaker 4: figure it out. Vin Diesel, I was like them in
- 8:57Speaker 4: the mid two thousands. I spent a lot of time
- 8:59Speaker 4: being likes Bendy.
- 9:00Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 9:01Speaker 1: He's put it out there, Listen. I went to school
- 9:05Speaker 1: with his sister and him. That dude had an afro
- 9:09Speaker 1: back in the day. Yo, that motherfucker black. I don't
- 9:12Speaker 1: get fuck what he's saying. I love you, I love Listen,
- 9:15Speaker 1: I don't. We don't know each other no more. His
- 9:18Speaker 1: sister I run into I used to run into all
- 9:20Speaker 1: the time, uh at like at like Comic con and
- 9:23Speaker 1: shit like that. And she would be like, I just
- 9:25Speaker 1: remember when you guys were kids, your brother singing five
- 9:30Speaker 1: Golden Rings at the Talent Show, and so that was
- 9:33Speaker 1: her connection. I just remember you guys at the talent show,
- 9:37Speaker 1: and I just remember Vin Diesel being black. I would
- 9:41Speaker 1: put it out.
- 9:41Speaker 3: There, all right. Well, that's our segment on is Vin
- 9:44Speaker 3: Diesel black?
- 9:45Speaker 1: Listen? We should That's a good question. That's I wish
- 9:49Speaker 1: we could get him to answer the question.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Why don't you ask chat GPT Daniel?
- 9:53Speaker 1: Okay, Daniel, do you have chat GPT?
- 9:57Speaker 3: Do it? But he has chests the website.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't have chat GPT.
- 10:00Speaker 3: It's just a website.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Cash the question. I think I would enjoy it too,
- 10:07Speaker 1: to be honest.
- 10:07Speaker 3: With you, I use it all the time to answer
- 10:09Speaker 3: questions for myself.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Well, it's a Google search. Everybody's looking at AI like
- 10:14Speaker 1: AI is a is A is terminator. It's not like
- 10:18Speaker 1: terminator right now. It's just a really strong, powerful search engine,
- 10:22Speaker 1: is what AI is. If I'm correct, I.
- 10:25Speaker 6: Don't think it's a search engine. No, it's a language
- 10:29Speaker 6: learning model. And so what it does is it basically
- 10:31Speaker 6: cribs answers from the Internet, as opposed to being like
- 10:33Speaker 6: a search engine.
- 10:34Speaker 2: But it's not.
- 10:35Speaker 6: The thing is, it's not searching the internet for answers.
- 10:38Speaker 6: It's kind of like acquiring language from how people talk
- 10:41Speaker 6: about stuff and using that to train itself to respond
- 10:45Speaker 6: to inquiries. So the thing is as opposed to trying
- 10:48Speaker 6: to like find the best answer for stuff, it will
- 10:50Speaker 6: kind of just like say what it thinks you want
- 10:53Speaker 6: to hear, which is not necessarily a search engine.
- 10:56Speaker 3: But then you can do a feature. I think I
- 10:58Speaker 3: mentioned where you say, check your work and and how
- 11:02Speaker 3: would you have improved your your work? And then it'll
- 11:05Speaker 3: give you some thoughtful responses on how it looked back
- 11:09Speaker 3: on its work. Impressive come up with an answer.
- 11:16Speaker 6: Yes, Vin Diesel is of mixed heritage, but he does
- 11:19Speaker 6: not identify as black.
- 11:21Speaker 3: His father said his father is said. This is what
- 11:24Speaker 3: chat gpt is saying.
- 11:25Speaker 7: His father is said to.
- 11:26Speaker 6: Be of African American and possibly some other ethnic origins,
- 11:28Speaker 6: while his mother is of predominantly white, mostly European descent.
- 11:31Speaker 6: And interviews, Vin Diesel has mentioned that he does not
- 11:33Speaker 6: know the specifics of his biological father's ancestry, as he
- 11:36Speaker 6: was raised by his mother and stepfather.
- 11:38Speaker 3: Well there you go, Donald, Are you satisfied?
- 11:43Speaker 1: I am? I am. I am satisfied with chat GPT's answer,
- 11:48Speaker 1: but I am not satisfied with it.
- 11:53Speaker 3: Seems so upset about it that with the reality, this
- 11:56Speaker 3: would really throw I never thought that this question would
- 11:59Speaker 3: throw you so much.
- 12:01Speaker 1: I just don't like hearing people say they identify as
- 12:03Speaker 1: something other than what they are.
- 12:05Speaker 3: But he just said he doesn't really know his biological
- 12:07Speaker 3: father's ancestry what it was. You just think he's black
- 12:10Speaker 3: because he had an afro. I think there's lots of
- 12:15Speaker 3: Jews who have afros.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Very sure, we don't listen. I don't want to get
- 12:19Speaker 1: into this. I don't want to get into I don't
- 12:21Speaker 1: want to get into this. I don't want to get
- 12:24Speaker 1: into this. Man.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Let's get into Joel McHale is he here, Sir?
- 12:28Speaker 2: Joel McHale is in the way.
- 12:29Speaker 1: The word gosh, six seven stories.
- 12:32Speaker 8: I'm not sure we made about a bunch of dogs and.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Nurses in.
- 12:39Speaker 8: He said, he's the stories nat so yeada rab here
- 12:46Speaker 8: a yeahda ra here obwe me.
- 12:50Speaker 5: Wiz Oh, oh my god.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Wow, he is handsome.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Look at that jaw line. Look at that jaw line.
- 13:04Speaker 1: And then look at the gray. He's distinguished.
- 13:07Speaker 3: Joel, you gotta put headphones on her. You're gonna fuck
- 13:09Speaker 3: up all our sound.
- 13:11Speaker 5: Your fucking headphone addiction is so stupid. It's what what is.
- 13:16Speaker 3: The I happened? We want good sound from Joel mchel
- 13:20Speaker 3: He's a good get.
- 13:21Speaker 7: How much more of a velvety fog do you want
- 13:24Speaker 7: than this?
- 13:25Speaker 2: God? Listen to that voice.
- 13:26Speaker 3: He probably gets so much voice over work. Donald's listen
- 13:29Speaker 3: to that voice.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Here we go I got this.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Are these ears? Are these monitors?
- 13:36Speaker 7: I'm a warning in Uh, let's see.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Since you've got since your R and B days, how dare.
- 13:43Speaker 5: You it used to be a actor for Imagine Dragons.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Well you were just with Imagine Dragons, weren't we?
- 13:54Speaker 7: No, no smokers, They're they're often mistaken for your.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Joel Joe McHale. Welcome to the program. You are a
- 14:03Speaker 3: very funny man. We are honored that you joined.
- 14:06Speaker 5: Thank you for having me, and I'm very excited about
- 14:09Speaker 5: the Imagine Dragons episode.
- 14:12Speaker 3: They're no, they weren't on the podcast. Donald just is
- 14:15Speaker 3: conflating two different bands he knows nothing about. We ended
- 14:18Speaker 3: up at a Chainsmoker's concert in Vegas, and he thinks
- 14:21Speaker 3: that's imagined Dream because.
- 14:22Speaker 1: I also thought that. I also thought that they were
- 14:24Speaker 1: what's the other band? All my friends or he Din's
- 14:28Speaker 1: take twenty one pilots, twenty one pilots. It's just like, oh, yeah,
- 14:32Speaker 1: that was whatever, white whatever white?
- 14:34Speaker 7: What about the Killers?
- 14:35Speaker 2: They're from Vegas too, No, not a killer.
- 14:39Speaker 3: We had this really cringe moment where we were with
- 14:41Speaker 3: the Chainsmokers and Donald was like, I love it when
- 14:44Speaker 3: y'all did. All my friends are Heathens and they were like,
- 14:47Speaker 3: that's that's not that's our song.
- 14:49Speaker 1: That's not ourselves, Like no, no, no, no, no your song.
- 14:51Speaker 3: And then Donald tried to play it all No, no,
- 14:53Speaker 3: I just love that radio you played.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Radioactive, right, I love right You're song is right radio.
- 15:02Speaker 3: And they're like, no, Donald, do you remember when you
- 15:04Speaker 3: tried to play it off like you weren't saying it
- 15:07Speaker 3: was their song. You were just saying you liked that song.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Yeah, it didn't. It didn't work.
- 15:11Speaker 3: And then like and then about thirty seconds and he
- 15:13Speaker 3: gave up. He's like, I did think that was you, guys?
- 15:15Speaker 3: I did?
- 15:16Speaker 5: He was like, no, No, I just wanted to tell
- 15:17Speaker 5: you about songs that I love for no reason.
- 15:20Speaker 3: I just I wanted to mention songs by other white people.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Have you guys heard of Peter Paul and Mary? I
- 15:27Speaker 2: just love the Joel.
- 15:31Speaker 3: I think I hustle hard in town, but I don't
- 15:34Speaker 3: think anybody does more in a given year than you.
- 15:37Speaker 3: You do a lot of shit.
- 15:39Speaker 5: Well, it's part of my new book coming out called
- 15:42Speaker 5: Always Say Yes and No Matter What. So I just
- 15:47Speaker 5: agree to anything that's ever offered, and sometimes that ends
- 15:51Speaker 5: up being fentanyl.
- 15:53Speaker 1: No, but you do hustle hard.
- 15:56Speaker 2: You do hustle hard.
- 15:56Speaker 3: You got a lot of stuff.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Hardest working people in Hollywood right now.
- 16:03Speaker 5: I agree, but it may not be quality, but I
- 16:06Speaker 5: will work very hard.
- 16:09Speaker 3: No, You've got a lot of quality on your resume.
- 16:11Speaker 3: I want to go back to the beginning, because the
- 16:12Speaker 3: first time I found out that you were really funny
- 16:15Speaker 3: and you made me laugh so hard was the soup.
- 16:18Speaker 7: Oh that's going way back, way back.
- 16:21Speaker 3: Well, that's when I first That's when I first discovered you.
- 16:23Speaker 7: This was our executive producer. It was also he was
- 16:31Speaker 7: also when.
- 16:31Speaker 5: Steely Dan Donald it was a big It was a
- 16:34Speaker 5: huge Steely Dan's that band that beat eminem that year
- 16:39Speaker 5: at the Grammys.
- 16:39Speaker 1: I remember, you know.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Steely Dan sayings, all my friends are he's taking Joe.
- 16:46Speaker 3: How did this the soup come about? Because I read
- 16:49Speaker 3: that you didn't even have an agent at the time.
- 16:51Speaker 3: How did you get that? I?
- 16:52Speaker 7: Well, I was at the time.
- 16:53Speaker 5: I had a commercial agent aka who are who were
- 16:56Speaker 5: great and continue to be great? Uh? And then I
- 17:00Speaker 5: was hip hocketed at gersh which is a Hollywood term.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Everybody, Yeah, I explained to what hip hockets.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Don't know Hollywood? Was that so you're not a fit.
- 17:11Speaker 5: So there's these agencies they got all in Hollywood or
- 17:14Speaker 5: in New York. They all have these separate departments.
- 17:17Speaker 2: They got a lot.
- 17:18Speaker 5: You always have a team, it's usually not just one person.
- 17:21Speaker 5: And I had this friend from high school, Jason Burns.
- 17:24Speaker 5: He was an agent at GERSH and he he really
- 17:27Speaker 5: helped me. And he was like, look, so what happens
- 17:29Speaker 5: is the hip hocket means this one person will send
- 17:32Speaker 5: you out kind of under the table to auditions and stuff.
- 17:37Speaker 2: And they're not they're not signing you.
- 17:39Speaker 3: They're they're feeling you out there.
- 17:41Speaker 2: And I had had an agent.
- 17:43Speaker 5: I was with an agency called Stone Manners and they
- 17:45Speaker 5: dropped me after a year because I wasn't working. And
- 17:49Speaker 5: they literally said, uh, you're too green. Literally said you're
- 17:52Speaker 5: too green. Come back when you have more experience, and
- 17:56Speaker 5: and that was that. So that was that wasn't demoralizing
- 17:59Speaker 5: at all, not at all. But because I got here
- 18:03Speaker 5: and did two quick jobs, got an agent.
- 18:06Speaker 2: And then it all went away.
- 18:09Speaker 5: Yeah, and so then I had a hip pocketed Gershon.
- 18:12Speaker 5: Jason my friend said, look, I'll send you out, but
- 18:16Speaker 5: no one here is going to be excited about you.
- 18:19Speaker 5: So it's a you should not sign here across the
- 18:22Speaker 5: board because no one's going to do anything. And I
- 18:24Speaker 5: that at the time, was like how dare you? And
- 18:26Speaker 5: then I now I was like, oh, that was really
- 18:29Speaker 5: great advice and really was showed me the where I
- 18:34Speaker 5: was in my career.
- 18:36Speaker 7: And then this woman named Anny Roberts.
- 18:38Speaker 5: Who cast everything out of E I began booking commercials
- 18:42Speaker 5: through AKA and she would see actors in those commercials and.
- 18:46Speaker 9: Go bring them in for one hundred and one celebrity Oops,
- 18:51Speaker 9: and we'll show videos of you know, Chris Cross going
- 18:56Speaker 9: to a club and then comedians.
- 18:59Speaker 5: Will comment like you know. It was like an early
- 19:01Speaker 5: or like a parallel version of Best Week Ever. And
- 19:05Speaker 5: just from her continuously bringing me in, she got me
- 19:09Speaker 5: the audition for what became The Soup, which it was
- 19:12Speaker 5: not at the time. It was called The What the Awards,
- 19:15Speaker 5: which was a terrible, terrible title for a television show. Yeah,
- 19:20Speaker 5: and then then the show went on the air and
- 19:25Speaker 5: it was on for like six months, and then GERSH
- 19:28Speaker 5: was like, we would love to sit down with.
- 19:29Speaker 1: You for lunch, and I was already paying.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Them, so to get some of.
- 19:34Speaker 5: My commission back at lunch, I ordered an eight pound
- 19:38Speaker 5: lobster and like, I think I ordered two bottles of
- 19:44Speaker 5: wine to take home with me. So they and that's
- 19:47Speaker 5: when I signed with them. And then then you know,
- 19:51Speaker 5: the show was slowly but surely gaining popularity.
- 19:55Speaker 7: But that's that's how that came together.
- 19:57Speaker 5: And then when all these other agents of you guys
- 19:59Speaker 5: know what, Like when all these other agents show up and.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Be like, we're just big fans, we love your work.
- 20:04Speaker 2: And I was like, didn't you loved it when it
- 20:07Speaker 2: got on? You know, you're sure you sure liked it after.
- 20:12Speaker 3: I know, it's really hard because there's no interest in
- 20:15Speaker 3: you when you're starting out, and then you get a
- 20:17Speaker 3: little bit of heat and all of a sudden, there's
- 20:19Speaker 3: so much interest in you, and you're like, well, how
- 20:20Speaker 3: am I supposed to get started?
- 20:21Speaker 1: Yeah, Joe, you're the first. You were the first host
- 20:24Speaker 1: of the super.
- 20:24Speaker 5: No It was called Talk Soup in ninety one with
- 20:28Speaker 5: Greg Kinnear.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Greg.
- 20:30Speaker 5: Yes, So he's the pot he's the true pioneer. And
- 20:34Speaker 5: then John Henson came in and really, you know, the
- 20:38Speaker 5: show fully exploded then and then how Sparks came in
- 20:42Speaker 5: after John Henson left, and then Aisha Tyler was the
- 20:47Speaker 5: fourth host and then she Then the show was canceled
- 20:51Speaker 5: in two thousand and two because talk shows. It was
- 20:55Speaker 5: only about afternoon talk shows. And I know who's ever
- 20:57Speaker 5: listening was like there used to just be ever every
- 21:00Speaker 5: channel had five talk shows on afterwards back and you
- 21:04Speaker 5: were there was enough there and and so we didn't.
- 21:07Speaker 2: We came in.
- 21:08Speaker 5: They brought the show in as like, we don't want
- 21:11Speaker 5: They literally said, we don't want talk soup. We just
- 21:14Speaker 5: want some some kind of version of that.
- 21:16Speaker 2: And then the new.
- 21:18Speaker 5: President came in and went, why is this called the
- 21:20Speaker 5: what the awards? It's a terrible name. Let's call it
- 21:22Speaker 5: the soup. And that was that and uh.
- 21:25Speaker 3: And then well, yeah, I technically the it was never
- 21:29Speaker 3: on my radar, so it was never on my radar
- 21:32Speaker 3: before you, Joel.
- 21:34Speaker 2: Well you were also an infant. You were you were
- 21:37Speaker 2: just a baby.
- 21:38Speaker 3: I was young, but I I started watching it because
- 21:42Speaker 3: of you. You made me laugh really hard, and I
- 21:45Speaker 3: thought it was very irreverend at the time too. And
- 21:47Speaker 3: I remember thinking like it was almost like a like
- 21:50Speaker 3: a roast. I mean, it was so funny and and
- 21:53Speaker 3: I couldn't believe some of the ship that they were
- 21:55Speaker 3: letting you say I think at the time, I just
- 21:57Speaker 3: was I just found it so funny.
- 22:00Speaker 1: I do remember when you took over and how the
- 22:03Speaker 1: show all of a sudden became it became a little
- 22:07Speaker 1: bit more for me, you know what I mean. I
- 22:10Speaker 1: feel like when Kanear was a host, we had Aisha,
- 22:13Speaker 1: and I thought Aisha did a great job too, But
- 22:15Speaker 1: when Kanear was doing it, it just seemed like it
- 22:17Speaker 1: was older comedy and it wasn't necessarily the comedy I
- 22:21Speaker 1: was laughing at. But then when you got on it,
- 22:23Speaker 1: it felt like it it was aimed towards me, and
- 22:26Speaker 1: I was like, I fucking watch. I would tune in
- 22:29Speaker 1: to watch the soup.
- 22:30Speaker 2: I remember Bless You.
- 22:31Speaker 5: No, it was we got because the President believes in it,
- 22:35Speaker 5: and nobody watched it for six months, but the President's like, oh,
- 22:39Speaker 5: it seems good. You're you're doing better than the the
- 22:42Speaker 5: rerun of Sex and the City that we put on
- 22:45Speaker 5: at ten o'clock. So once you keep going, uh what,
- 22:49Speaker 5: we were just trying to make ourselves laugh, and I
- 22:52Speaker 5: and I would literally namecheck high school friends and see
- 22:56Speaker 5: if they would call in or like.
- 22:57Speaker 2: See like that.
- 22:58Speaker 5: They're like, hey, you said my name, Dean's get and
- 23:00Speaker 5: I was like, all right, Dean watched it, but yeah,
- 23:04Speaker 5: we got, we got. Really it was because on top
- 23:08Speaker 5: of that, I'm very dyslexic and cannot read teleprompter very well.
- 23:12Speaker 2: I'm way better at.
- 23:13Speaker 5: It now, but those first few shows that were like
- 23:17Speaker 5: here read twenty two minutes of jokes with cameras and
- 23:21Speaker 5: clips coming in and out, it would take me four hours.
- 23:24Speaker 5: So it was like God had was like, all right,
- 23:26Speaker 5: we're gonna let you fuck this up for a while
- 23:29Speaker 5: and then you'll get a little bit better at it,
- 23:31Speaker 5: and thank God, and so that's how it. You can
- 23:36Speaker 5: The poor people who are at the tapings were they
- 23:38Speaker 5: like this, this guy's an idiot and he can't read
- 23:41Speaker 5: and that's Oh.
- 23:43Speaker 3: That must have been really hard because reading a teleprompter
- 23:46Speaker 3: live in front of an audience. Oh, dyslexia must have
- 23:49Speaker 3: been really stressful.
- 23:50Speaker 5: Yes, it was very Half of it was anxiety, and
- 23:54Speaker 5: thankfully I'm way I mean, you learn different and now
- 23:58Speaker 5: you're still not very good at it, but you learn
- 24:00Speaker 5: different ways to deal with it. And but boy, those
- 24:04Speaker 5: first few days, I remember one taping to four hours
- 24:07Speaker 5: to get through twenty two minutes.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Of jokes, and I was like, oh, boy, and.
- 24:10Speaker 5: Then we did it live, and I was ashamed of
- 24:13Speaker 5: being dyslexic, but then I kind of I got over that.
- 24:17Speaker 5: And then when we did it live live, because we did,
- 24:20Speaker 5: I was like, Hi, it's Joel from the Soup.
- 24:22Speaker 7: I'm dyslexic. We're doing it live. I don't know what
- 24:24Speaker 7: the fuck's gonna happen.
- 24:25Speaker 3: And how often would you do it live?
- 24:29Speaker 5: Well, there was like two years we did it live,
- 24:31Speaker 5: I think, but it was too like. That was also
- 24:34Speaker 5: when the ratings went up, but then it was beginning
- 24:37Speaker 5: to win. Like towards the end, that's when the old
- 24:41Speaker 5: you know, like streamers were coming in. Television's ratings were diving,
- 24:46Speaker 5: and of course they blamed they always blamed the talent.
- 24:50Speaker 5: And so that's one of the reasons why I went away.
- 24:53Speaker 2: But the same thing, big.
- 24:55Speaker 1: I was on the last episode you were, I was, Yeah,
- 24:58Speaker 1: I was on a couple episodes. Actually, yeah, you and I.
- 25:01Speaker 1: You and I became You and I became friends while
- 25:04Speaker 1: you were doing this show.
- 25:05Speaker 3: Joel doesn't remember that.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Donald, Well, we played on a basketball team together for
- 25:08Speaker 1: several years. Actually, he and I and and competed against
- 25:14Speaker 1: a lot For a while, it was just me and
- 25:16Speaker 1: you bro and that was it, like you know and
- 25:19Speaker 1: Anto Montana and Montana.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Jeff and Jeff Sltz was good.
- 25:23Speaker 1: And salts and starts. Yeah, he was with us too,
- 25:26Speaker 1: and we competed and got we did really well. This
- 25:31Speaker 1: is this NBA Celebrity League Entertainment League.
- 25:34Speaker 3: Oh yeah. Donald was very into that.
- 25:35Speaker 5: If you were to have taped those games and shown them,
- 25:38Speaker 5: people would not believe, like the different heavy hit like
- 25:42Speaker 5: the different real celebrities that were coming in and be like, Oh,
- 25:45Speaker 5: we're playing Will Ferrell today.
- 25:47Speaker 1: And yeah, yeah, oh wow, I'm gonna go to Adam Sandler.
- 25:51Speaker 1: This is gonna be great.
- 25:52Speaker 7: Do you remember how Brian McKnight was on our was
- 25:54Speaker 7: on our team?
- 25:56Speaker 1: No, you were on Brian the nice team. He was
- 25:58Speaker 1: never on my team. He one year I had Bill
- 26:01Speaker 1: lay It was like me, Bill Lawrence, Uh, Jeff Stultz,
- 26:06Speaker 1: I think we had. I want to say Adam McKay
- 26:08Speaker 1: was on our team. I could be wrong, but he
- 26:10Speaker 1: never showed up. All I know is we had a
- 26:11Speaker 1: stacked team of like big time television producers.
- 26:17Speaker 7: Who were on the last few years of their knees and.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Right and and couldn't run and stuff like I remember
- 26:23Speaker 1: we dude, we had had.
- 26:26Speaker 5: A fights broke out. I mean it was it was
- 26:29Speaker 5: no joke, it was it was good. It was good competition.
- 26:33Speaker 2: And then there was some lawyer.
- 26:34Speaker 5: I remember there was like, who's the freaking lawyer? Who's
- 26:37Speaker 5: this who's the six to seven guy? They're like, he's
- 26:39Speaker 5: an entertainment lawyer. I'm like that guy, and they're like, oh,
- 26:42Speaker 5: he was on the Lakers for he had a good
- 26:45Speaker 5: that he was on the Lakers for a year.
- 26:47Speaker 1: And I was like wow.
- 26:48Speaker 2: I was like, that's that's cheating.
- 26:51Speaker 1: But Bob Myers was a fucking Bob Myers played in
- 26:54Speaker 1: our league. Bob Myers ran the Golden State Warriors in
- 26:57Speaker 1: their glory days when they won all of their championships.
- 27:00Speaker 1: He was he played in our league, and he was
- 27:03Speaker 1: a sports agent at the time.
- 27:04Speaker 5: So I was like, okay, but there's this There was
- 27:07Speaker 5: no quality, there was no levels of qualifying.
- 27:10Speaker 3: But people took it very seriously. I know Donald took
- 27:12Speaker 3: it very serious.
- 27:13Speaker 4: Oh.
- 27:14Speaker 1: I think I'm gonna be honest with you. I think
- 27:16Speaker 1: there's some people like Guy Richie doesn't talk to me
- 27:18Speaker 1: today because of that league. Guy Richie's like, if I
- 27:23Speaker 1: ever I'll never go.
- 27:24Speaker 3: You got in lifelong fights with people.
- 27:27Speaker 1: No, not guy Richie, my bad mcg. Mcg's like, I'll
- 27:30Speaker 1: never hire him.
- 27:33Speaker 2: Wait, what is mc g made lately?
- 27:36Speaker 1: It doesn't matter, it doesn't matter. I know a lot
- 27:38Speaker 1: of people hated me, and I knew. And I found
- 27:41Speaker 1: this out because one day we were playing and some
- 27:43Speaker 1: dude followed me and he's like, I didn't follow him
- 27:45Speaker 1: and I turned into him. I said, yeah you did,
- 27:47Speaker 1: and he wanted to fight me, like fuck you, Donald,
- 27:50Speaker 1: kill you, and I was like, whoa. I didn't realize
- 27:54Speaker 1: I was hated like that.
- 27:57Speaker 3: Do you think the soup could be on today? Joel?
- 28:01Speaker 3: I mean, I wonder in.
- 28:03Speaker 2: This transition, Zach.
- 28:04Speaker 5: But listen, Donald was the best person to have on
- 28:07Speaker 5: the team because he fucking cared. And I was like,
- 28:11Speaker 5: I'm glad Donald's on my team because he doesn't.
- 28:13Speaker 2: It's yes, he was very passionate.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Do you think do you think it could it could
- 28:19Speaker 1: make it?
- 28:20Speaker 2: Well?
- 28:20Speaker 5: We tried it on Netflix and it didn't work. We
- 28:23Speaker 5: lasted two seasons. But I don't I always say I
- 28:28Speaker 5: don't think so because everything it's very.
- 28:30Speaker 2: Hard to write today. It's very ten.
- 28:32Speaker 3: People are very people are very sensitive and the show
- 28:35Speaker 3: to me. I mean, it's funny I'm saying this, But
- 28:38Speaker 3: at the same time, people love the roast. Yeah, Tom
- 28:40Speaker 3: Brady roast was so many and it was so insane
- 28:43Speaker 3: the ship that was being said on the roast. But
- 28:45Speaker 3: I think in the quality in the context of a roast,
- 28:49Speaker 3: people allowed different rules because it's like this old tradition.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Like a roasted.
- 28:54Speaker 3: Yeah, you's also showing up to participate, your right, Donald.
- 28:58Speaker 5: But I actually don't think that. When I hear older
- 29:02Speaker 5: comics say, oh, crowds are too sensitive now, I actually
- 29:07Speaker 5: do not subscribe to that because I because, like I
- 29:11Speaker 5: when I heard Seinfeld talk about college crowds that he
- 29:14Speaker 5: didn't you know there, I was because when I do
- 29:17Speaker 5: colleges there they seem on board. But maybe they're just
- 29:20Speaker 5: being nice to this old man and uh but we
- 29:24Speaker 5: shots fired, sorry Jerry Seinfeld and uh but but but
- 29:31Speaker 5: I have noticed no difference with young people that you
- 29:34Speaker 5: can say you can say. I think if it's a
- 29:36Speaker 5: good joke, you can say a lot. And I don't
- 29:39Speaker 5: think it's I don't think a comedian. I don't think
- 29:42Speaker 5: comedians are getting that canceled for.
- 29:45Speaker 7: But I don't know.
- 29:46Speaker 5: But I think it's too instantaneous, the U, because we
- 29:50Speaker 5: would always we wait a week to tell all that
- 29:53Speaker 5: here's your entertainment news, and then here's some clips from
- 29:56Speaker 5: reality shows. And I think that stuff is up. Maybe
- 29:59Speaker 5: if we did it all TikTok every day, every ten minutes.
- 30:02Speaker 7: But I don't, I don't, I don't know.
- 30:04Speaker 5: I mean, no one's tuning into television uh on time seemingly,
- 30:10Speaker 5: or maybe they do.
- 30:12Speaker 2: You're right.
- 30:12Speaker 3: And also everyone's watching so many different things that unless
- 30:15Speaker 3: it's one of the the sort of three things everybody's
- 30:19Speaker 3: talking about that week, no one. People don't have the
- 30:23Speaker 3: reference mayb.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know.
- 30:24Speaker 5: I mean, but SNL is huge, right, so they're I
- 30:27Speaker 5: don't know, but they're doing sketches more than a click, right,
- 30:30Speaker 5: But it could maybe it could. But he was turning
- 30:34Speaker 5: in on itself when I when I.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Was fired, You guys were you guys were like memes
- 30:41Speaker 1: before they were memes, you guys.
- 30:43Speaker 10: Yeah, it was kind of like it was TikTok before
- 30:45Speaker 10: it was TikTok, you know what I mean, Like we
- 30:47Speaker 10: used to we used to watch I used to watch
- 30:49Speaker 10: it to see people stumble and fall and make fun
- 30:52Speaker 10: of it and then you make fun of them, you
- 30:53Speaker 10: know what I mean?
- 30:54Speaker 1: Like that was the that was the purpose of the show.
- 30:58Speaker 1: And now I watched and now I watched Facebook or
- 31:00Speaker 1: Instagram or TikTok, and people are just doing the soup
- 31:05Speaker 1: all by the you know what I mean, they got
- 31:07Speaker 1: they're superimposing themselves all to the background and everything doing
- 31:11Speaker 1: it's ridiculous. We used to do. Yeah, I think there
- 31:13Speaker 1: is a space. I think there is a space for it.
- 31:16Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know that you want to
- 31:17Speaker 1: do it, but I think there's a donald.
- 31:19Speaker 3: Do you remember this is so.
- 31:22Speaker 5: Yeah, we have chicks Man, chicks Man. There wasn't like
- 31:29Speaker 5: when he had Joan and Chelsea and me and we
- 31:33Speaker 5: had a real comedy brand. And then Joan died, Chelsea left,
- 31:37Speaker 5: and then the network was turning in on itself.
- 31:40Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, this is all going away very quickly.
- 31:42Speaker 3: I don't even know what he does anymore.
- 31:43Speaker 5: At the House of Villains on E hosted by this guy, Thank.
- 31:48Speaker 7: You, Joel, Joel, thank you for remembering.
- 31:54Speaker 3: Another show.
- 31:55Speaker 1: You just sat here and talked about how E was
- 31:58Speaker 1: turning on itself and how they didn't know what they're doing,
- 32:02Speaker 1: and yet they hired you again.
- 32:04Speaker 2: Well, Donald, let me explain.
- 32:06Speaker 1: So I was talking to the lead singer.
- 32:11Speaker 2: No, here's wait, what's what's a house?
- 32:14Speaker 5: The villains is on E But when I was offered
- 32:16Speaker 5: the job, because you know, it's straight to offers, guys,
- 32:19Speaker 5: I'm leaning right in. Uh No, it's uh because they
- 32:23Speaker 5: were Annie was still there. She's not there anymore. She
- 32:26Speaker 5: was like, Hey, everybody who fired you has been fired
- 32:31Speaker 5: and the people the people were cool again.
- 32:34Speaker 2: And I'm like, oh, and so we take all.
- 32:38Speaker 5: The the people that did best on reality shows and
- 32:42Speaker 5: who were considered the most evil or the most uh
- 32:46Speaker 5: rough and uh you know who caused the most friction,
- 32:50Speaker 5: and we get all those people together in one house,
- 32:53Speaker 5: and we have them compete for money. Uh.
- 32:56Speaker 7: And so it's called, yeah, a bunch of villains. They
- 32:59Speaker 7: let me say whatever I want.
- 33:01Speaker 5: And I was like, we include like when planes are
- 33:04Speaker 5: flying over and you can't hear audio speak speaking too
- 33:08Speaker 5: precious people of their audio, and we show people stumbling
- 33:15Speaker 5: and falling that you me screwing up my teleprompter. So
- 33:18Speaker 5: it's competing to see who is because all these players,
- 33:21Speaker 5: like someone like Johnny Bananas from the Challenge are very
- 33:24Speaker 5: good at what they do. And then you also get
- 33:27Speaker 5: like Teresa Judais who's really good on TV and really
- 33:31Speaker 5: can be really funny, or like Tiffany Pollard, who's really
- 33:36Speaker 5: television gold. And so you get you get that group
- 33:40Speaker 5: of folks and they're TV. They're very savvy on TV
- 33:45Speaker 5: and uh, it's it's are we just completed our well,
- 33:48Speaker 5: it's our second season is running right now.
- 33:52Speaker 3: I just watched what's the show that's like Mafia, the Sopranos, Mafia.
- 33:59Speaker 3: They the game Mafia, Joelle, what's that show where they
- 34:02Speaker 3: all compete celebrities? Yeah, talking about Traders, thank you. It's
- 34:11Speaker 3: called Traders.
- 34:12Speaker 5: They had a lot we were on actually before Traders,
- 34:15Speaker 5: and Traders really has done very well and we would
- 34:19Speaker 5: like some.
- 34:19Speaker 2: Of their work, so we ye Traders.
- 34:22Speaker 3: Traders took a lot of villains and and uh from
- 34:26Speaker 3: from reality to us and put them on this show
- 34:27Speaker 3: where they could sort of compete to survive and it's
- 34:29Speaker 3: pretty funny, entertaining.
- 34:31Speaker 5: So we actually hope our opening monologue was everybody who
- 34:35Speaker 5: wasn't on Traders is here.
- 34:36Speaker 2: So thanks.
- 34:39Speaker 7: That's a really good show.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Though, let's take a break.
- 34:42Speaker 3: We'll be right back after these fine words. We got
- 34:52Speaker 3: to talk about one of your most beloved things of
- 34:55Speaker 3: all time. Community. It's your agent, remember, I think.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Everybody that's kind of hard to forget.
- 35:03Speaker 3: No, that is a very beloved show that produced so
- 35:06Speaker 3: many talented.
- 35:07Speaker 2: People on.
- 35:10Speaker 1: Daniel PODi.
- 35:14Speaker 7: Yes, no, yes, no, there's so many.
- 35:18Speaker 3: I was watching it recently on a plane. I watched
- 35:20Speaker 3: the pilot again on a plane, and it's just amazing
- 35:24Speaker 3: to see how many incredibly talented people came out of
- 35:28Speaker 3: that where we're born out of that of that cast.
- 35:31Speaker 5: Yeah, no, I mean too bad for Donald Glover, but
- 35:33Speaker 5: everybody else did well.
- 35:35Speaker 3: He'll be okay. I think he's going to be okay.
- 35:38Speaker 3: One thing we have in common is that people have
- 35:42Speaker 3: always asked, is there going to be some sort of
- 35:44Speaker 3: reincarnation of the show? Ours is all talk, but it
- 35:47Speaker 3: looks like you guys have a script and are really
- 35:49Speaker 3: making a movie.
- 35:49Speaker 2: We really are.
- 35:51Speaker 5: It's it's very similar to the Scrubs movie that you
- 35:55Speaker 5: guys have been trying to make forever. But no, it's
- 35:59Speaker 5: we have Peacock has given us the money. We have
- 36:02Speaker 5: the green light to make the movie. So that was
- 36:04Speaker 5: the hardest part, and everybody is agreed. We were supposed
- 36:08Speaker 5: to shoot it last June, I ruined it and couldn't do.
- 36:11Speaker 1: It because you had a television show, right.
- 36:13Speaker 5: No, I had three and uh that's what's thank you,
- 36:17Speaker 5: thank you so much, kidd four and so uh what
- 36:22Speaker 5: a dick. But no, but so I we.
- 36:26Speaker 2: Are going to do it.
- 36:27Speaker 5: I hopefully it'll be in twenty twenty five and then
- 36:30Speaker 5: come out in next holiday season.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Is my is my fantasy. It's hope.
- 36:35Speaker 3: Must be so hard to schedule all you guys, because
- 36:37Speaker 3: you're all doing so well and that and of course
- 36:41Speaker 3: you are not exaggerating of so many shows and how
- 36:44Speaker 3: do you so that's the Have you guys found a
- 36:46Speaker 3: time to making it for the fans who love the show.
- 36:49Speaker 3: There is actually going to be a bit.
- 36:50Speaker 2: There will be a movie.
- 36:51Speaker 7: Yes, it's we're circling in on the time.
- 36:53Speaker 5: It won't take too long to shoot because because we'll
- 36:58Speaker 5: be were like, we can't. We just need to we
- 37:01Speaker 5: it's got to be a truncated schedule. And but what
- 37:04Speaker 5: we have to we have to all be there. That's
- 37:06Speaker 5: the only caveat. It can't be like we.
- 37:09Speaker 7: Shot the one side of that scene when once his
- 37:12Speaker 7: name was in Thailand, and then this other side was
- 37:14Speaker 7: shot in Toronto like that.
- 37:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree, I think that arrested development. Like when
- 37:20Speaker 3: they came back, they tried to they had to do
- 37:22Speaker 3: something like that, and I remember them being trying to
- 37:25Speaker 3: figure out a way to shoot the show that where
- 37:27Speaker 3: they weren't all together, and I remember feeling like that
- 37:31Speaker 3: was not as as good as the Multigether.
- 37:33Speaker 5: I mean, obviously it was one of the greatest shows
- 37:35Speaker 5: of all time, but yeah, you sometimes you can tell
- 37:37Speaker 5: what that stuff and yeah.
- 37:40Speaker 3: Now you've been outspoken about a certain cast member. He
- 37:42Speaker 3: probably won't be back on a Sandy.
- 37:45Speaker 1: Yes, but he didn't last throughout that. He didn't last.
- 37:53Speaker 1: He didn't last at a show either though. Man, I
- 37:55Speaker 1: know that he.
- 37:56Speaker 3: Left, but I'm just saying, like, I know, you're not
- 37:58Speaker 3: going to do something fire. Yeah he didn't. That must
- 38:02Speaker 3: have been hard because it's a weird balance of like, wow,
- 38:05Speaker 3: this is a living legend, but he's driving us all nuts.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Yep. Uh, there's no other way to put it other than.
- 38:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess no.
- 38:16Speaker 5: And he you know, he was really really funny and
- 38:20Speaker 5: when the thing when the camera was on him and
- 38:22Speaker 5: he was doing his thing, it was he was incredible.
- 38:25Speaker 3: And uh, but.
- 38:27Speaker 2: You know, he said that.
- 38:29Speaker 7: I mean, I literally have a part in my book
- 38:32Speaker 7: thank You.
- 38:32Speaker 5: It's called Thanks Thanks for the Money, came out eight
- 38:34Speaker 5: years ago where you know I talk about fighting him and.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Uh physically fighting yeah yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 38:43Speaker 5: We did it all the time, and and he he
- 38:47Speaker 5: just didn't want to be there. He didn't like the hours,
- 38:50Speaker 5: and I you know, you know the hours on something
- 38:52Speaker 5: crazy is yea is they're they're endless. And but I
- 38:56Speaker 5: was like, the hours are always the hours. I mean,
- 38:58Speaker 5: if you're it is going to be what that That's
- 39:00Speaker 5: how it always was. We weren't making a four camera sitcom,
- 39:04Speaker 5: and so he didn't want to be there, and then
- 39:07Speaker 5: eventually he wasn't And uh.
- 39:09Speaker 1: So that's really interesting.
- 39:11Speaker 2: He's really fun.
- 39:12Speaker 7: Could you watch him on camera? I mean, he's a
- 39:14Speaker 7: he's a bona fide movie star for real.
- 39:18Speaker 1: Look at SNL. He only did one season at SNL
- 39:20Speaker 1: and he's one of the most popular and no cast
- 39:23Speaker 1: members ever. You know, there's something special about him, obviously,
- 39:27Speaker 1: But same thing with SNL. People had a hard time
- 39:29Speaker 1: with him there too, you know what I mean. It's
- 39:31Speaker 1: not like it's not like Chevy Chase is walking around
- 39:35Speaker 1: with the best reputation on.
- 39:36Speaker 2: The I know they talked.
- 39:37Speaker 5: They all talk about him, so I mean, I he's
- 39:41Speaker 5: all those like real a list like he made. He
- 39:46Speaker 5: was the highest paid star of the eighties. I mean
- 39:49Speaker 5: he made more than Eddie Murphy, which is saying, which
- 39:51Speaker 5: is incredible. And I mean those vacation movies and flip
- 39:55Speaker 5: between fl I mean there were but then you know,
- 39:57Speaker 5: he you know, we get to this little DN show
- 40:00Speaker 5: that didn't become really popular until after it was canceled
- 40:04Speaker 5: twice and off the air. That so, yeah, it's all fine.
- 40:10Speaker 3: I wonder if he I wonder if he enjoyed it.
- 40:13Speaker 3: Sounds like he was miserable, and I wonder if he
- 40:15Speaker 3: enjoyed making those eighties movies. I wonder, I wonder if
- 40:18Speaker 3: he was a happier fellow than I you know, I mean,
- 40:22Speaker 3: I'm not saying it's for you to answer. I just
- 40:24Speaker 3: wonder out loud, like, you know, if he if you know,
- 40:26Speaker 3: when he was, when he was at the top of
- 40:28Speaker 3: his game, if he was you know, movies have crazy
- 40:30Speaker 3: hours too. Maybe I wonder if he enjoyed it more.
- 40:33Speaker 5: I think he definitely had a fastball then that. And
- 40:35Speaker 5: you know, I I think he loved being a movie star,
- 40:38Speaker 5: and who the who wouldn't.
- 40:40Speaker 1: Who wouldn't love being a movie star? Right? That sounds
- 40:42Speaker 1: like such a fucking you know, I'm gonna say something.
- 40:45Speaker 1: We I think we all and a lot of the
- 40:47Speaker 1: guests that we've had on the show, we all come
- 40:50Speaker 1: from an era of television where you had to fucking
- 40:54Speaker 1: fight really hard to keep your popular show going. You
- 40:59Speaker 1: know what I mean, all of us. It's the conversation
- 41:02Speaker 1: that so many people are having when they come on
- 41:05Speaker 1: our show. It's always, well, you guys were a hit, right, No,
- 41:08Speaker 1: we weren't a hit until season three, or we weren't
- 41:11Speaker 1: a hit until the end of season one, or you know,
- 41:14Speaker 1: it's very rare that we've had someone on the show
- 41:18Speaker 1: that has come in and been like, I haven't I've
- 41:21Speaker 1: never been on the show. It was a blessing all
- 41:23Speaker 1: the way through. We did twelve seasons. It was easy.
- 41:26Speaker 1: That isn't the conversation, and a lot of people feel like,
- 41:31Speaker 1: you know, the success story is the fact that I
- 41:35Speaker 1: don't know, I'm starting to ramble now, but the success story, hey,
- 41:38Speaker 1: we've been on for nine seasons. They don't know about
- 41:40Speaker 1: the blood, sweat and tears that went in between that shit.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Bill Lawrence had to work really hard. We had to
- 41:44Speaker 1: switch networks to get to where we were. You guys
- 41:47Speaker 1: were canceled three times, you know what I mean. But
- 41:50Speaker 1: some way the showrunner found a way to get it
- 41:55Speaker 1: back on. It's fucking amazing man.
- 41:56Speaker 7: Yeah, well the showrunner was fired then yea.
- 42:00Speaker 2: How many seasons did Dan not do?
- 42:02Speaker 5: And then I and then I quit and said I'm
- 42:06Speaker 5: not coming back unless Dan comes back, and then they
- 42:09Speaker 5: thankfully allowed you know, Dan came back. I mean, the
- 42:12Speaker 5: fact that Dan William would come back was a lot,
- 42:15Speaker 5: and but the show wasn't the same even though you.
- 42:19Speaker 3: Know, yeah, that season that he wasn't there. What season
- 42:21Speaker 3: is Do you find that that's the fans like that
- 42:26Speaker 3: one the least?
- 42:27Speaker 5: I Yeah, I would say like, but there's some people
- 42:30Speaker 5: that are like, it's you guys are all still great
- 42:33Speaker 5: on I'll be like, oh, thank you, I'll take that.
- 42:36Speaker 7: Some of it was we kept celebrating a lot.
- 42:38Speaker 5: Of holidays that season, but there was a lot of
- 42:42Speaker 5: those holiday episodes. But but some people are like, hey,
- 42:45Speaker 5: it's great, and I'm like, well take it. But no,
- 42:48Speaker 5: I do not think I personally don't think it has
- 42:51Speaker 5: the same feeling as the other five. But but but
- 42:56Speaker 5: I agree with Don, very much agree with Don that
- 43:00Speaker 5: there's only like you can count them on your hands,
- 43:03Speaker 5: where some shows were shot out of a canyon cannon,
- 43:05Speaker 5: like Friends or something, where it was like it was
- 43:07Speaker 5: a hit, all Modern Family, a hit from the beginning.
- 43:11Speaker 2: All the way through.
- 43:12Speaker 5: Uh, you can make the argument that like Glee shot
- 43:15Speaker 5: out of a cannon and then kind of faded, Yeah,
- 43:19Speaker 5: tapered off, but still very popular. But you know, you're
- 43:22Speaker 5: always now in this environment, there's not as many episodes,
- 43:27Speaker 5: so you like you get two seasons maybe or if
- 43:31Speaker 5: you're really lucky, but it's just so difficult to keep
- 43:34Speaker 5: those plates spinning. And uh. And when I you know,
- 43:39Speaker 5: I hear people go like, well, you're just on a show,
- 43:40Speaker 5: And then you're on a show, I'm like, you out.
- 43:42Speaker 2: Of your mind.
- 43:43Speaker 5: We're constantly building a ship while it's in a storm
- 43:48Speaker 5: on the water.
- 43:49Speaker 1: We are fucking shit is sinking and I'm trying to build.
- 43:55Speaker 2: That is happening every week.
- 43:58Speaker 5: And we were like this episode that is beloved Dungeons
- 44:03Speaker 5: and Dragons, like Dan was told.
- 44:05Speaker 7: After we read that script, they were like, oh, no.
- 44:07Speaker 5: One likes dungeons and dragons, we should do something else,
- 44:10Speaker 5: and they're like what, and so that's those.
- 44:13Speaker 1: Sorts of Lord of the Rings.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Yeah, that that stuff happens. I'm sure.
- 44:18Speaker 3: Right, let's talk about animal control because one of your current.
- 44:25Speaker 7: Three to air January something.
- 44:28Speaker 3: Is it true that Sarah Chalk is on this season?
- 44:31Speaker 5: Yes, she's been on two seasons and uh, talk about
- 44:36Speaker 5: a difficult person who's not talented.
- 44:39Speaker 3: About it, talk about she was Chevy Chase.
- 44:44Speaker 2: Untalented.
- 44:47Speaker 3: Yeah, she's listen, I don't care. I don't care how
- 44:50Speaker 3: bad your Chevy stories were.
- 44:52Speaker 2: So oh my gosh.
- 44:53Speaker 5: She she she created the Proud Boys.
- 44:56Speaker 2: I think.
- 44:58Speaker 1: That's what I heard.
- 44:59Speaker 3: She's she's trying to start She's trying to start a
- 45:02Speaker 3: Vancouver brands she was.
- 45:05Speaker 2: She created that.
- 45:07Speaker 7: Yeah, she created the next cult I think up there.
- 45:11Speaker 2: Does she play your love interest? She does, Yes, that hussy.
- 45:14Speaker 3: I can't tell you how many love interests that hussy
- 45:18Speaker 3: has played.
- 45:19Speaker 2: She was how I met your mother. She was a
- 45:21Speaker 2: love interest.
- 45:22Speaker 1: She's a little hottie.
- 45:23Speaker 2: Man.
- 45:23Speaker 1: It does a reason. There's a reason.
- 45:26Speaker 3: She is hot and fun.
- 45:29Speaker 5: I think you would call her like they call Dan
- 45:32Speaker 5: Marino in the eighties.
- 45:33Speaker 2: She is the cant like he was called the Candy
- 45:35Speaker 2: Store because they.
- 45:36Speaker 5: Just she had he had every skill and every She's
- 45:41Speaker 5: so funny, talented, kind, normal, beautiful.
- 45:45Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, it's really pisses me off.
- 45:49Speaker 3: Do you get to have quality time with wacky animals
- 45:51Speaker 3: because I really like exotic animals.
- 45:55Speaker 5: Yes, we they're around a lot. And then there's the
- 45:59Speaker 5: animals that are to terrifying but also sweet.
- 46:02Speaker 2: And then we had a.
- 46:03Speaker 5: Sloth who which that sounds like a lot of well
- 46:08Speaker 5: the sloth was really I had a slough one time
- 46:10Speaker 5: that was really like cuddly and all that, and then
- 46:13Speaker 5: this other sloth. They were like this, They're like, this
- 46:16Speaker 5: is the best on camera sloth we have. He'll do
- 46:18Speaker 5: exactly what we say. But everyone, but everyone believes the
- 46:23Speaker 5: sloths are friendly and slow. And the guy was like,
- 46:27Speaker 5: this one is neither. And they're like they were like,
- 46:31Speaker 5: let him do his thing. He's going to do his thing.
- 46:34Speaker 5: You if you get it, If you bother him, she's
- 46:37Speaker 5: going to cut your finger off. And and he they
- 46:42Speaker 5: were not wrong. That thing was it was I.
- 46:46Speaker 1: Was hoping you'd hold up your hand and it was
- 46:47Speaker 1: like missing two fingers like they were not It was.
- 46:51Speaker 2: It was great. It was terrifying.
- 46:54Speaker 3: So you had you had a bad encounter with the sloth.
- 46:57Speaker 3: I've never heard of him.
- 46:58Speaker 2: I had a.
- 46:59Speaker 5: Great experience, but I did not. They were like, don't
- 47:02Speaker 5: put your hand near its face.
- 47:04Speaker 2: But then I feel.
- 47:05Speaker 3: Like, if if a sloth came for you, you could
- 47:07Speaker 3: just just slowly.
- 47:08Speaker 2: Know they slow, they wanted to slow. They're like I
- 47:14Speaker 2: watched this baseball players.
- 47:17Speaker 5: They just sit around and then all of a sudden,
- 47:19Speaker 5: they're like, what the what happened?
- 47:21Speaker 1: I was about to do. I was about to say
- 47:23Speaker 1: that they're like athletes. Athletes just sit around and then
- 47:25Speaker 1: all of a sudden, out of nowhere.
- 47:26Speaker 2: Yeah, got there.
- 47:28Speaker 3: I saw some nature video where a sloth was like
- 47:31Speaker 3: booty calling. They were like calling each other. And then
- 47:33Speaker 3: he took his time and he swam across and he
- 47:36Speaker 3: finally climbed up the tree, and and the chick sloth
- 47:40Speaker 3: already had a man there like he he had taken.
- 47:42Speaker 2: Too much job.
- 47:43Speaker 3: It was too late.
- 47:46Speaker 2: Here's the funniest video I ever saw. Wow, that's it
- 47:49Speaker 2: sounds like a Hallmark movie.
- 47:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I love slough, I know that.
- 47:54Speaker 5: And it was like, also, this sloth was as big
- 47:57Speaker 5: as a like a full grown golden retriever.
- 48:02Speaker 2: It was huge. It was I mean, I.
- 48:05Speaker 1: Thought they were like bear size for some reason, I
- 48:07Speaker 1: thought sloss for like bear size.
- 48:09Speaker 2: No, they're they're there.
- 48:11Speaker 5: They're as bad as big Yeah, there was bad as
- 48:13Speaker 5: big as big dogs. And the one I also had
- 48:16Speaker 5: a tiny little one who was super cute and cuddly. Anyway, nuts.
- 48:20Speaker 1: So because of this show, have you found yourself very
- 48:24Speaker 1: interested in exotic animals? Do you own any exotic animals? Yeah?
- 48:29Speaker 1: Do you have a crazy?
- 48:32Speaker 2: Do you have a bubbles? Do you have a bubbles?
- 48:35Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 48:36Speaker 2: I think it's bubbles.
- 48:39Speaker 1: Yeah. I said he's a bubble, which would be a bubble.
- 48:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I have a I have a couple of snow
- 48:47Speaker 5: leopards that I just checked in my.
- 48:49Speaker 2: Luggage, brought them down from Canada.
- 48:52Speaker 5: No, uh no, I I did on The Great Indoors,
- 48:56Speaker 5: which was a sitcom I did. There was a pug
- 48:59Speaker 5: to which when this character at a puppy pug and
- 49:01Speaker 5: I was like, that's coming home with me, and yeah,
- 49:05Speaker 5: and that pug.
- 49:06Speaker 2: Is still well, it's our beloved pug.
- 49:09Speaker 1: Let's take a break.
- 49:10Speaker 3: We'll be right back after these fine words. That you've
- 49:19Speaker 3: been married a long time.
- 49:20Speaker 7: Huh, this is a weird transition.
- 49:23Speaker 3: But no, you were just talking about your family. You
- 49:26Speaker 3: gestured to your family and your home. So I many
- 49:29Speaker 3: think that's not your wife, that your wife's funeral.
- 49:33Speaker 2: No, haven't, haven't you.
- 49:34Speaker 3: You're the rare Hollywood guy who's been married for thirty years.
- 49:37Speaker 7: I have been with my wife for thirty married for
- 49:40Speaker 7: twenty eight.
- 49:41Speaker 3: Wow, that's incredible.
- 49:43Speaker 2: What's your secret?
- 49:44Speaker 5: Well, Uh, you know, I'm the patriarch and I'm kind of,
- 49:48Speaker 5: you know, the boss, and I tell her what to do,
- 49:50Speaker 5: and I screen what she reads. And our house has
- 49:54Speaker 5: its own religion. We don't pay taxes, and you know. No,
- 50:00Speaker 5: what is the secret? Well, she's very patient. Uh you're
- 50:06Speaker 5: you seem like a big personality.
- 50:07Speaker 7: Yes, it's extremely annoying all the time.
- 50:11Speaker 5: My wife is the queen and I am the vassal,
- 50:15Speaker 5: not not the king.
- 50:17Speaker 7: She is the queen and everybody else is.
- 50:19Speaker 2: Yeah, she's I believe me.
- 50:22Speaker 5: When I met her, I was like, I'm going to
- 50:25Speaker 5: try to let it was like the old trying to
- 50:27Speaker 5: land a marlin.
- 50:29Speaker 2: In the Gulf of Mexico, Like this is going.
- 50:32Speaker 5: To be very difficult for she's she was so far
- 50:35Speaker 5: above my station that I got her. I can somehow
- 50:40Speaker 5: tricked her into dating me, and I'm like, oh, yeah,
- 50:44Speaker 5: so I got very very lucky. Yeah, I guess the
- 50:46Speaker 5: secret is cocaine, A lot of cocaine.
- 50:50Speaker 1: Okay, I'm gonna say. I'm gonna say cocaine and sex.
- 50:53Speaker 2: Yeah, just keep Donald.
- 50:56Speaker 3: Also lets his his wife sort of be the queen
- 51:01Speaker 3: and run the Roostah. She she wrangles him, right, Donald, I.
- 51:06Speaker 1: Learned at a very very very young age in this
- 51:09Speaker 1: relationship if I wanted to work, there's certain things that
- 51:14Speaker 1: she likes to that she likes, and that's control.
- 51:17Speaker 7: I remember when you guys were dating, when like we
- 51:20Speaker 7: were playing basketball, and I remember thinking, wow, Donald, is
- 51:25Speaker 7: he's out of his league.
- 51:26Speaker 2: But here, here we go.
- 51:28Speaker 1: I am very very very very very much aware that
- 51:31Speaker 1: I am out of my league.
- 51:32Speaker 2: He had to work hard to woo her.
- 51:34Speaker 5: I think, you know, when you get on TV, people think,
- 51:37Speaker 5: oh my gosh, you guys are if you've done so well,
- 51:41Speaker 5: and they're so lucky, and you're like, once you get
- 51:43Speaker 5: past that part, actors are pretty stupid and boring, and
- 51:49Speaker 5: so then why once you get past then you know,
- 51:53Speaker 5: and that's why so lucky.
- 51:55Speaker 1: My wife is in entertainment though, man, she was like
- 51:58Speaker 1: she knew, I don't know man, my wife, I don't
- 52:01Speaker 1: know you. You said you were very lucky and you,
- 52:04Speaker 1: your wife is the queen. I come to a very
- 52:06Speaker 1: realization at a very I'm very well aware my life
- 52:10Speaker 1: would be ship if I didn't let her take control.
- 52:12Speaker 2: Happy wife, your happy life.
- 52:14Speaker 3: Truly, that's a perfect segue to talk about the Bear
- 52:18Speaker 3: Jrol Michale. Well, thank you another hit show that Joel
- 52:24Speaker 3: is on. How did that come about? Because I was
- 52:26Speaker 3: excited to see you play an asshole? You you normally no,
- 52:33Speaker 3: you play a wise ass, but I mean, this was
- 52:35Speaker 3: a dramatic part. This was a really frightening character for
- 52:38Speaker 3: for the for the for the main protagonist.
- 52:41Speaker 2: How did that? How did that come out?
- 52:42Speaker 3: I thought it was really inspired casting, and I thought
- 52:44Speaker 3: it was I thought you were I think you're really
- 52:45Speaker 3: great on the show.
- 52:47Speaker 5: Now it made me feel weird, But thank you very
- 52:51Speaker 5: much that I got, once again, extremely lucky because Chris Storer,
- 52:56Speaker 5: who created that show, who was a freaking genius.
- 53:00Speaker 3: Yeah he's so talented that Yeah he is.
- 53:02Speaker 7: Gillian Jacob's long term boyfriend. And so we started getting
- 53:06Speaker 7: to know each other during community.
- 53:09Speaker 5: Also a fantastic chef truly, like he could have he
- 53:13Speaker 5: could have had his own restaurants a thousand times.
- 53:16Speaker 3: Oh, is that where his interest in the subject came from?
- 53:18Speaker 7: I didn't know, yes, But at the same time, like
- 53:22Speaker 7: he wrote this script, this movie script where I was.
- 53:25Speaker 5: I read it and I was like, when did this?
- 53:27Speaker 5: I literally I was about a basketball coach, and I
- 53:30Speaker 5: was like, when did this happen? He goes I made
- 53:33Speaker 5: it up and I was like what. I was like,
- 53:35Speaker 5: that's how good he is. So anyway, Chris asked, because
- 53:40Speaker 5: the Bear started three and a half years ago, and
- 53:43Speaker 5: he just said, well, you play this guy and I
- 53:47Speaker 5: will do anything for him.
- 53:48Speaker 7: And at the time, you know, when the show were were, I.
- 53:51Speaker 2: Was in the pilot.
- 53:52Speaker 5: So look there was like two trucks parked outside and
- 53:55Speaker 5: we're shooting in a restaurant till it opened that evening,
- 53:58Speaker 5: and you know, it's one of those things where you
- 54:00Speaker 5: know you do with zillion jobs. You're like, well, that
- 54:02Speaker 5: was really fun and Jeremy was really really good, and
- 54:06Speaker 5: I hope this works and good luck to you guys.
- 54:09Speaker 2: And I So I only appeared in.
- 54:11Speaker 7: One episode in each season, so it wasn't like I
- 54:14Speaker 7: was a series regular.
- 54:15Speaker 2: And anyway.
- 54:16Speaker 5: So I was just lucky to get in there. And
- 54:18Speaker 5: then on this third season, you know that he wrote
- 54:22Speaker 5: that scene and I was like, holy crap, I hope
- 54:24Speaker 5: I don't fuck this one up. And then Jeremy is
- 54:28Speaker 5: he's such an extraordinary performer and that so I was
- 54:33Speaker 5: I got all. I got so much from him, so
- 54:36Speaker 5: I got it was really fun to do, and then
- 54:39Speaker 5: you know, the show exploded. It was to go watch
- 54:42Speaker 5: a show to be like two trucks and now there's
- 54:44Speaker 5: twenty trucks and there's people across the street trying to
- 54:48Speaker 5: get a glimpse of Jeremy and like crowd control. And
- 54:51Speaker 5: I was like, ah, this is this show's the show's
- 54:54Speaker 5: doing Okay.
- 54:55Speaker 3: Yeah, it really blew up, man, it really blew up.
- 54:57Speaker 3: And there's so much love it and there's so much
- 54:59Speaker 3: talent in the cast. I really really across the board.
- 55:03Speaker 3: It's such it's such a unique, uh group of people.
- 55:06Speaker 2: For story Back, he brought all that together and he is,
- 55:09Speaker 2: he really did.
- 55:09Speaker 3: And he directs. How about all of them are he's
- 55:13Speaker 3: for most of them?
- 55:14Speaker 7: I don't know the ones I've been in he's directed, so.
- 55:19Speaker 2: Yeah, at least three.
- 55:21Speaker 3: Yeah, but Joelle will look that up for us. I
- 55:24Speaker 3: forgot if he directs all of them or most of them.
- 55:26Speaker 1: I'm sorry, this is a show that I don't watch.
- 55:28Speaker 3: So yeah, Donald doesn't watch The Bear.
- 55:30Speaker 7: But you know all that there's all that twenty one
- 55:33Speaker 7: pilot music in it.
- 55:35Speaker 3: Yeah, if there were more twenty one pilot music in it. Donald,
- 55:38Speaker 3: the Blanchet did makes me up, makes me believe.
- 55:43Speaker 2: Yeah, twenty one pilots.
- 55:45Speaker 1: Yeah, that's my favorite. One that thinks whatever it takes. Yeah,
- 55:51Speaker 1: makes me up believe. I believe.
- 55:56Speaker 4: Christopher's directed nineteen episodes, but he's also given episodes Toronto
- 56:00Speaker 4: yusuf I, owe A Debris and Duco Fabri and Joanna
- 56:04Speaker 4: Halo has also done six episodes.
- 56:07Speaker 7: And his sister thinks like the Chief Food Consultant.
- 56:10Speaker 3: And yeah, the food is done. I mean the food
- 56:14Speaker 3: is its own character obviously. The way it's shot and
- 56:16Speaker 3: the way that they make it, it's real. Yeah, it's
- 56:21Speaker 3: like a It's like it makes me think, and is
- 56:23Speaker 3: it really over? Is it just three? And now it's over?
- 56:25Speaker 3: I have no idea. Oh, you don't know, you're just
- 56:28Speaker 3: trying to come in.
- 56:31Speaker 2: I don't know im. Yeah, you believe me. I'll I'll
- 56:36Speaker 2: drop everything to do it because it's so much fun
- 56:38Speaker 2: and stuff.
- 56:38Speaker 3: So you do you ever want to direct anything?
- 56:42Speaker 5: I think I'd be terrible at it, So I I
- 56:46Speaker 5: don't have I don't have the Zach Braff brain even
- 56:50Speaker 5: have the patience.
- 56:50Speaker 3: It does take some patience, and it does take anxiety management,
- 56:53Speaker 3: which is the real I.
- 56:55Speaker 5: Think I would forget to do most shots. I'd be
- 57:00Speaker 5: They're like, do you want to get a wide of this?
- 57:02Speaker 3: What?
- 57:03Speaker 1: Uh?
- 57:04Speaker 5: What?
- 57:04Speaker 1: Now, let's do it.
- 57:07Speaker 2: So I don't know. I don't know. I don't know
- 57:08Speaker 2: if I would be good at coverage or yeah, it's
- 57:11Speaker 2: a lot to think about, and i'd be I think
- 57:13Speaker 2: i'd be.
- 57:14Speaker 1: Without naming names, have either one of you worked for
- 57:18Speaker 1: a director that was more difficult than an actor? Without
- 57:24Speaker 1: naming names, what do you mean that he that he
- 57:26Speaker 1: or she like the director was late every day, or
- 57:30Speaker 1: the director didn't have a shot list or a plan
- 57:33Speaker 1: for the shoot and was relying on the crew.
- 57:37Speaker 2: Or yeah, okay, yeah, yeah a million times.
- 57:41Speaker 3: Not necessarily we.
- 57:43Speaker 5: Had a director in community which I won't say, but
- 57:45Speaker 5: they did not actually get coverage and we had to
- 57:47Speaker 5: go back and get a bunch of stuff when they
- 57:50Speaker 5: weren't there.
- 57:54Speaker 3: Wow, Yeah, I mean to do a master We definitely
- 57:57Speaker 3: had directors on scrubs in all those years where I
- 58:00Speaker 3: was like, why we have so many there's so many
- 58:03Speaker 3: talented people. Why is this person here fumbling us through
- 58:07Speaker 3: the week in a really ineffective way? You know that? Donald?
- 58:10Speaker 3: Do you remember that?
- 58:11Speaker 1: Yeah? I've worked with I've worked with directors that were
- 58:14Speaker 1: late for work.
- 58:14Speaker 2: That is not just that is just that is unforgivable.
- 58:19Speaker 1: I mean, but not just like five minutes late, like
- 58:21Speaker 1: an hour late, like the actors are sitting on set
- 58:24Speaker 1: waiting to do the Uh. You know, you get to
- 58:28Speaker 1: set in the morning and you do this, you practice
- 58:31Speaker 1: the scene before you go to the trailer and put
- 58:33Speaker 1: makeup on and everything waiting on set in full makeup
- 58:38Speaker 1: and hair. I have never ready to block and shoot,
- 58:42Speaker 1: ready to block, ready to block the scene.
- 58:45Speaker 3: That never happened to me.
- 58:46Speaker 1: That's happened.
- 58:47Speaker 2: What did you say when they walked in?
- 58:50Speaker 1: Nothing?
- 58:51Speaker 3: Does anyone have any blow?
- 58:53Speaker 1: Now? The director walked in and was like, you blocked
- 58:55Speaker 1: this without me?
- 58:58Speaker 5: Yeah, I would say, and that Maybe I wouldn't actually
- 59:01Speaker 5: do this in the in the moment, but I would.
- 59:05Speaker 5: If we're a TV show. I would have that person fired.
- 59:10Speaker 5: I'd be like, unless they're unless there was a catastrog
- 59:14Speaker 5: accident or.
- 59:15Speaker 2: Something and some but I would be like, we're not
- 59:17Speaker 2: doing this.
- 59:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I couldn't believe it.
- 59:20Speaker 3: I was like, Wow, okay, all right, Joel, you're a legend.
- 59:24Speaker 3: We appreciate your time. We know you're a busy man
- 59:27Speaker 3: because you got to go do four shows just to.
- 59:29Speaker 7: Well, here's what I can tell about Zach.
- 59:32Speaker 5: I know you're a director, and you must be a
- 59:33Speaker 5: good director because you keep these freaking trains on time.
- 59:37Speaker 3: Well, Donald will have a yem Yang thing because Donald
- 59:40Speaker 3: smokes a lot of weed and he goes off on tangents.
- 59:42Speaker 3: And then my job is to be a little bit
- 59:44Speaker 3: of like steer the ship.
- 59:46Speaker 7: All I ask in favor is that maybe we go
- 59:48Speaker 7: to all to go to dinner sometime.
- 59:50Speaker 3: I would love to. You're you're a very funny man.
- 59:54Speaker 2: Let's let's see.
- 59:55Speaker 3: I'll pay for it.
- 59:55Speaker 1: I'm rich. You make me wonder you got a lot
- 59:58Speaker 1: of shows.
- 59:59Speaker 3: Yeah, with all those Oh you better be rich. Yeah,
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: those kids better be in Gucci sneakers.
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: Oh yeah, they're so lucky. They look great.
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: We missed a lot, man, We could have got into
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: a lot. That dude's been in so much stuff.
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: I know, but you know, we did an hour with him,
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: and I don't want to you know, we don't like
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: to push it. We asked people to come on for
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: an hour, and we like them to We like to
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: keep our word.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: I agree, I agree, But man.
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: He's got a lot of energy and he does so much.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: It makes me want to hustle harder. I don't think
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: I'm hustling hard enough.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: I know I'm not hustling hard enough right now. But
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: I've got a plan. I'm gonna make this little short
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: and then, you know whatever, I.
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: Do like game shows and shit like that. I mean,
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: you could be hosting a Villains of a Villain house. Yeah,
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: you know, we used to do the occasional game show.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I I you know how it is, man, I
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: do you like to work, which is very true, But
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: I want to work on things that I'm that I
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: feel great about now. You know what I mean too.
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: And if it sounds like Joel was just saying he
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: just says yes to everything.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: That's what he said. He said. That's what he said
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: was saying. But that's fine. Some people really really like
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: to do that I don't know. I don't. I don't
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: know if that's for me, But I'm not going to
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: be mad at anybody for saying yes to work. Work
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: is work, and no, I know, I don't.
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: I'm just thinking my version of it, like I miss
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: working more and I want to work more, and I
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: but I don't want to just do something I don't like.
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: I would never do something that I don't have an
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: interest in watching right or or or or I don't know.
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: I guess I am precious about associating myself with something
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: that I don't think is his quality. I don't want
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: to work just to work.
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: I used to not give a shit, but now I
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: really do care about what it is that I do.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: I think the next thing. I think the next thing
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: is the most important thing, regardless of what I just
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: recently did, you know, And I want the next thing
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: to be better now, Whereas before it's like I just
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: want quantity, quantity, quantity, and now I'm all about Now
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: it's like I just want to do something.
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: Well.
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: You have You're lucky that you have that ability and
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: that blessing to be able to do that. A lot
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: of people, I mean, the town is very slow right now,
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: and a lot of people are not working and need
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: work and are suffering. Crew members and actors.
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: What's going on? Can I ask you what's going on?
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: Because there seems to be a show coming out every week,
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: but then you listen to our contemporaries and we're not working. Man.
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: I think the town is still very slow post you know,
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: when you factor in post COVID, post strike, multiple strikes,
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: I don't think the town has fully recovered. Los Angeles
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: certainly hasn't recovered. I think more and more jobs are
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: not in Los Angeles. The governor just signed a new
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: version of the tax incentive to try and keep more
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: work in town. But as we all know, most jobs
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: are going out of state for tax incentives Canada and Atlanta, Georgia.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: So it behooves you to live in like Austin, Texas? Now?
- 1:03:20Speaker 6: Is that to know?
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: If it behooves you to live in Austin, Texas? I
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: think I just think that, you know. I think the
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: strike gave the studios and opportunity to sort of reframe
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: their attitudes towards production and slow everything down and just
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: sort of clear the slate, clear deals, catch their breath.
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: I mean, I would imagine their shareholders want them to
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: recoup the money they lost. I'm making all this up,
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: by the way. I'm not a pundent on the entertainment business.
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: I'm just rambling. But I do think that I would
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: assume there's a mandate to sort of recoup all the
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: money it was lost for the strike. Danel your thoughts probably.
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: I mean, it's the same thing with like record deals.
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: At a certain point people want the money that they
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: spent on certain things back. But I definitely echo the
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: sentiment of Camember, the writer's name, but he wrote American
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: fiction about how why do we spend so much time
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: making one hundred million dollar movies instead of making ten
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: ten million dollar movies. It's like, not everything needs to
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: be as big of a gamble. It'd be better if
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: you did. But but but but for the theatrical space,
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: it kind of does right now. I mean, the things
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: that people are going to see and talk about are
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: and we're talking about They're talking about Wick Kids, we're
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: talking about Gladiator two, and.
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: We're talking about the next Marvel movie, Captain America. That's
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: what it's all really big. You can't, it's I can't.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: I mean, Zach tried to release a movie in theaters,
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: and that was he found out how difficult that was,
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: you know what I mean.
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: Yeah, well it never really truly found its audience until
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: it was on Prime, which it was. Then it fucking
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: crushed Donald. We can't end the episode without discussing something
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: you might not even know because it's on the interwebs
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: this morning, that Denzel Washington will be in the I know,
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: Black Panther.
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: Movie and he's also going to retire. And he's also
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: going to retire.
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: But I thought that Denzel in that stuff.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's it's bound to happen. If Harrison Ford
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: is in fucking Marble, Denzel is, if fucking Russell Crowe
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: is in Marble, Denzel eventually will it has to be
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: because it's just, I mean, he can't finish the career
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: without that. But now he's saying he's going to retire
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: after that ship.
