- 0:25Speaker 1: What's up, everybody. Welcome in, Welcome in. It's your boy,
- 0:28Speaker 1: Big Bad bbe working overtime to bring you another exciting
- 0:33Speaker 1: edition of JFK Book Reviews, a division of the Lone
- 0:37Speaker 1: Gunman podcast.
- 0:39Speaker 2: That's right.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Today, we're gonna be talking about a book, as you
- 0:44Speaker 1: can see from the picture right here beside me, called
- 0:51Speaker 1: The Lee Harvey Oswald Files by Flip de May.
- 0:57Speaker 2: And what a great name that is.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Like, if I could pick my own name, Flip to
- 1:01Speaker 1: May would be at the top of my list.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I just like it for some reason. I don't know why.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I dig it.
- 1:07Speaker 1: He's got a great name. Now Flip is also right
- 1:12Speaker 1: here sitting in front of his great JFK book collection.
- 1:20Speaker 1: He's got a hell of a stack behind him, for sure.
- 1:23Speaker 1: So it fits in with the theme here. And lets
- 1:28Speaker 1: you know a little bit about what this guy's looking like.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Now, I do have this.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Book, and boy, let me tell you she's thick, just
- 1:44Speaker 1: like I like him. And it's a beautiful book. It's
- 1:51Speaker 1: a hard cover. No viagra needed with this one. It's
- 1:59Speaker 1: beautifully done. I guess what helped if I turned it
- 2:02Speaker 1: the right way. I like the color, I like the esthetic.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Now this book here is a follow up to Flip's
- 2:14Speaker 1: twenty thirteen book entitled Cold Case Kennedy. This book here,
- 2:22Speaker 1: The Lee Harvey Oswald Files, was published in twenty sixteen,
- 2:27Speaker 1: ten years ago. I can't believe it already ten freaking
- 2:31Speaker 1: years ago. It's about four hundred pages long. It was
- 2:38Speaker 1: published by Lanu Publishers. Lanu Lanu Publishers.
- 2:49Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Flip is Belgian. He's a mantor of Belgian, the diamond
- 2:54Speaker 1: capital of the world. But he understands and writes English
- 3:03Speaker 1: very well, as you can see from his extensive book
- 3:06Speaker 1: collection there behind him. Now, this book here clocks in
- 3:12Speaker 1: at about four hundred pages. Like I said, she's a
- 3:17Speaker 1: thick one. And what I like about this book is
- 3:26Speaker 1: he dedicates it for all women and girls, which is
- 3:30Speaker 1: very nice of him, and in particular my dear sisters
- 3:34Speaker 1: Viril and Annalise, and in memory of Hilda and Mikey.
- 3:40Speaker 1: We came to know the world in the agreements and
- 3:42Speaker 1: differences we had together on a swing. And my dear
- 3:45Speaker 1: daughter Lottie for the indescribable things that she understands much
- 3:49Speaker 1: better than I. And from my wife Martine, who is
- 3:53Speaker 1: in my heart every second that's a beautiful dedication. This
- 4:02Speaker 1: book has a preamble, I like that a preamble, an introduction,
- 4:10Speaker 1: and it has twenty four chapters split up into two parts.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Part one being the files, hence the name the Lee
- 4:21Speaker 1: Harvey Oswald Files. File one has to do with the
- 4:26Speaker 1: murder of John F. Kennedy, detailing and looking at it,
- 4:32Speaker 1: the shot from the sniper's nest, the weapon in the
- 4:34Speaker 1: sniper's nest, the perpetrator in the sniper's nest, and a
- 4:37Speaker 1: murder of pure opportunity.
- 4:40Speaker 2: File number two. He goes into the murder of J. D.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Tippett, Found number three, the murder of Oswald by Jack Ruby.
- 4:49Speaker 1: File number four Lee Oswald nutcase or agent. The attack
- 4:56Speaker 1: on Edwin Walker is file number five. File number six
- 4:59Speaker 1: is L. H. Oswald Agent Provocateur, where he goes into
- 5:05Speaker 1: what was going on in New Orleans, Mexico, the audio incident, Hurt,
- 5:10Speaker 1: a Wilderness of mirrors, And in part two he deals
- 5:15Speaker 1: with the leegendmotive or lack thereof, of this case where
- 5:20Speaker 1: he talks about the CIA, Bobby Kennedy, the missile crisis,
- 5:26Speaker 1: and all of that jazz. Then there's also an epilogue.
- 5:30Speaker 1: There's a note section, there's an index of people, a bibliography,
- 5:33Speaker 1: and finally an index of the book itself. So there's
- 5:39Speaker 1: a lot going on here. And he got a little
- 5:44Speaker 1: criticism for his first book for not really footnoting or
- 5:49Speaker 1: citing a lot, so.
- 5:52Speaker 2: He made up for it in this book, for sure.
- 5:57Speaker 1: The one thing I can say about Flip de May
- 6:05Speaker 1: he hasn't really been involved in the case very much
- 6:08Speaker 1: since putting this last book out, and I can only imagine.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Right, you know, you go through all this.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Pain and suffering and new analysis of writing this gigantic book,
- 6:22Speaker 1: publishing in twenty sixteen, and then son of a Bitch,
- 6:27Speaker 1: don't you know it? The next year, in twenty seventeen,
- 6:35Speaker 1: they start releasing more and more and more files. So Flip,
- 6:42Speaker 1: if you're out there, we need the trilogy. Bro go
- 6:48Speaker 1: ahead and wrap up.
- 6:49Speaker 2: This series.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Using your analysis and stuff from the new files. I
- 6:57Speaker 1: think it will be fascinating. I think it will be awesome.
- 7:02Speaker 1: And your first book was in blue, this was in red,
- 7:06Speaker 1: and you know you could do your third one in.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Like green or white. That'd be cool.
- 7:14Speaker 1: But enough about what I think, because what I think
- 7:17Speaker 1: doesn't matter. He interlaces a lot.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Of very very cool.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Quotes into this book from various people, including.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Walt Brown.
- 7:36Speaker 1: He has a quote from Walt Brown here in part
- 7:38Speaker 1: one of the files that states this, there is really
- 7:42Speaker 1: only one way to run an investigation, and that is
- 7:45Speaker 1: with thoroughness, take every scrap of evidence, add to each
- 7:49Speaker 1: of these scraps by dauntless investigation until the saturation.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Point is reached.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Then begin to see where all the evidence points, and
- 7:57Speaker 1: only then near are the focus. It's pretty good, pretty
- 8:02Speaker 1: good analysis. And then of course we have a quote
- 8:08Speaker 1: from Sherlock Holmes from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's a study
- 8:12Speaker 1: in Scarlet instalving a problem of this sort. The grand
- 8:16Speaker 1: thing is to be able to reason backwards. That is
- 8:19Speaker 1: a very useful accomplishment and a very easy one, but
- 8:22Speaker 1: people do not practice it much, and the everyday affairs
- 8:26Speaker 1: of life, it is more useful to reason forwards, and
- 8:29Speaker 1: so the other comes to be neglected. There are fifty
- 8:33Speaker 1: who can reason synthetically for one who can reason analytically,
- 8:39Speaker 1: and I think that is the heart and soul of
- 8:41Speaker 1: this book and what Flip Demy tries to accomplish in
- 8:47Speaker 1: this book as well. Now back to the title, there
- 8:53Speaker 1: is a subtitle at the top, Why the CIA Killed Kennedy,
- 8:59Speaker 1: which I leads you to understand that this is a
- 9:03Speaker 1: conspiracy leaning.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Book for sure.
- 9:11Speaker 1: But what I really enjoy about this book is his
- 9:14Speaker 1: writing style and the things that he chooses to super
- 9:19Speaker 1: analyze when it comes to the evidence or accusations involving
- 9:23Speaker 1: Lee Harvey Oswald, such as the audio incident. He puts
- 9:29Speaker 1: forth something that I don't think I've ever heard contemplated
- 9:34Speaker 1: before seriously, and.
- 9:39Speaker 2: That is that.
- 9:42Speaker 1: What if Oswald or someone pretending to be him visited
- 9:52Speaker 1: Sylvia Odio not before the Mexico trip, but after the
- 9:56Speaker 1: Mexico trip, you know, maybe maybe she got her dates
- 10:02Speaker 1: a little off here or there, so on October second
- 10:06Speaker 1: or third, you know, possibly is when this audio visit occurred.
- 10:13Speaker 1: It's interesting to think about. But these are the kind
- 10:15Speaker 1: of things that, you know, you have to think outside
- 10:18Speaker 1: the box sometimes, and I enjoy researchers and writers who
- 10:23Speaker 1: are not afraid in their analytical skills to think outside
- 10:30Speaker 1: the box and put forth a different scenario. That's what
- 10:35Speaker 1: I really enjoy reading. You know, I don't want to
- 10:40Speaker 1: sit here and read the same old, same old. You know,
- 10:44Speaker 1: here's the facts. These are the conclusions. You know, here's
- 10:48Speaker 1: a conspiracy bend, here's a non conspiracy bend. Blah blah
- 10:52Speaker 1: blah blah blah. Right, this book is very well written.
- 11:00Speaker 1: It's very easy to understand. It is not written in
- 11:04Speaker 1: legal or medical ease, if you will, and I really
- 11:09Speaker 1: enjoy it. I really do enjoy it.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Now.
- 11:11Speaker 1: I don't agree with all of his conclusions and analysis,
- 11:17Speaker 1: but again, the world would be a pretty boring place
- 11:21Speaker 1: if we all agreed on everything.
- 11:25Speaker 2: I think he puts a little too much.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Weight on you know, spooky David Atlee Phillips at times
- 11:30Speaker 1: in the book, and the actual role of the CIA,
- 11:35Speaker 1: you know, in dealing with Oswald and everything else. But
- 11:42Speaker 1: the analysis of for instance, the rifle, when you just
- 11:46Speaker 1: break it down to bare bones, you know, could he
- 11:51Speaker 1: have ordered it? Was it delivered to the po box?
- 11:55Speaker 1: You know why when you analyze things and you see,
- 12:01Speaker 1: you know, the rifle being taken out of the building
- 12:03Speaker 1: as it has a a magazine in it. Yet the
- 12:09Speaker 1: magazine never ends up in evidence. Where did the bullets
- 12:13Speaker 1: come from? How did Oswald get the bullets? Where did
- 12:19Speaker 1: he buy them? There were never any extras found anywhere,
- 12:24Speaker 1: No box in Oswald's possessions. We have no proof whatsoever
- 12:29Speaker 1: that Oswald ever practiced with that rifle. What are the
- 12:31Speaker 1: problems with the scope. And then when you start uber
- 12:34Speaker 1: analyzing things like the rifle after the assassination and the
- 12:38Speaker 1: rifle in pictures pre assassinations, such as the backyard photos,
- 12:44Speaker 1: things don't tend to match well.
- 12:48Speaker 2: You know, like for instance, the strap.
- 12:52Speaker 1: You know, is it a side mounted strap or an
- 12:54Speaker 1: under the barrel mounted strap? Why does it look like
- 13:00Speaker 1: just a piece of rope in the backyard photograph? And
- 13:03Speaker 1: then you know, after you find it it's a piece
- 13:05Speaker 1: of leather type of thing. I don't know. These are
- 13:10Speaker 1: all the very detailed type of analysis that he does,
- 13:14Speaker 1: and you know it's I think it's invaluable. Invaluable. So
- 13:24Speaker 1: this book when it first came out, I really enjoyed it.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Flip was all over Facebook said promoting this thing. I
- 13:35Speaker 1: immediately ordered me a copy, which you can find on
- 13:39Speaker 1: Amazon for twenty five bucks brand new, twenty three used.
- 13:44Speaker 1: But you know what, if you're might as well disordered
- 13:48Speaker 1: brand new and get it beautiful. It is not on
- 13:52Speaker 1: Kindle like his first book. The link will be in
- 13:55Speaker 1: the description to get this book. And like I said, man,
- 14:02Speaker 1: I would love to see a third part to this,
- 14:09Speaker 1: making a trilogy Flip and utilize all the new documents
- 14:17Speaker 1: that have been released, all the new analysis that we've
- 14:20Speaker 1: figured out.
- 14:22Speaker 2: I think this.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Book is what ultimately the Oswald Puzzle came to be. Like,
- 14:31Speaker 1: this book wanted to be the original Oswald Puzzle before
- 14:36Speaker 1: the Oswald Puzzle, and I'm not mad at it for that.
- 14:40Speaker 1: That's the kind of analysis that we're looking at here now.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Larry and David took it much much deeper, thanks to
- 14:50Speaker 1: the benefit of having the newerly released files. But Flip
- 14:56Speaker 1: didn't do a bad job ten years ago trying to
- 14:59Speaker 1: figure out who in the Sam Hill Lee Harvey Oswald was.
- 15:04Speaker 1: I mean, he deals with the stuff in Mexico, he
- 15:06Speaker 1: deals with the stuff in New Orleans, and it's all
- 15:10Speaker 1: very interesting to see his takes. That being said, I
- 15:17Speaker 1: highly recommend this book. I can't say enough good things
- 15:21Speaker 1: about it. Is it perfect in any way?
- 15:24Speaker 2: No?
- 15:25Speaker 1: No, it's not perfect. It does have its small problems
- 15:29Speaker 1: here and there. Excuse me, But again, what book doesn't.
- 15:34Speaker 1: I mean, there's very few books out there that don't.
- 15:38Speaker 1: So with that being said, I'm going to give this
- 15:42Speaker 1: book here the Lee Harvey Oswald Files by Flip de May.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I am going to give this book a solid and
- 15:52Speaker 1: I mean solid straight eight.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Inches.
- 15:59Speaker 1: I mean straight eight eight eight guns up, baby boo
- 16:03Speaker 1: pow eight guns up. This book is solid. It's beautiful.
- 16:12Speaker 1: It's a good addition to have on your bookshelf. And
- 16:18Speaker 1: it's big enough to be a doorstop if you ever
- 16:20Speaker 1: need one, or like, you know, a booster seat if
- 16:24Speaker 1: you ever need one.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Or uh a step extra step.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Stool if you need one. It will give you a
- 16:33Speaker 1: couple of inches. That is the Lee Harvey Oswald Files
- 16:40Speaker 1: by Flip to May, the man with the coolest name
- 16:42Speaker 1: in the world in the JFK Assassination author Sphere.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Flip to May. Flip the May, like.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Flip, seemed like the kind of guy that you know
- 16:53Speaker 1: you can hang out with, shoot the shoot the ship with,
- 16:56Speaker 1: knock back a few cold ones, maybe suck down a couple.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Hot Cuban stogies.
- 17:03Speaker 1: With and just relax and just enjoy the night away
- 17:07Speaker 1: talking for hours about the Kennedy assassination. So Flip, if
- 17:13Speaker 1: you're out there and you see this.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Part three, brother, make it a trilogy and.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Give it a green hued or white hued cover. That way,
- 17:25Speaker 1: your covers will be red, white and blue or blue,
- 17:28Speaker 1: red and green. Just a suggestion from Big Bad Bob. Anyway,
