- 1:08Speaker 9: Welcome back.
- 1:09Speaker 8: Let's portion the program brought to you by Superior Air Repair. Trey,
- 1:13Speaker 8: grab that microphone right now. We have to say goodbye
- 1:18Speaker 8: to a guy that's been behind the scenes.
- 1:20Speaker 9: Uh for how long, Trey? How long you've been doing
- 1:23Speaker 9: this since January? Since January?
- 1:25Speaker 10: Maybe six months?
- 1:26Speaker 1: Okay?
- 1:27Speaker 9: What's the worst part of this job dealing with me? What?
- 1:29Speaker 1: What?
- 1:29Speaker 9: What is the absolute worst thing that you have to
- 1:32Speaker 9: deal with every day?
- 1:34Speaker 1: Nothing?
- 1:35Speaker 3: It's been great.
- 1:37Speaker 8: Come on, Trey pen writing, you even you can even
- 1:41Speaker 8: you can even.
- 1:43Speaker 9: Judge my handwriting. You can even decipher that by now.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:47Speaker 11: Sometimes whenever we have like you have to ask for interviews, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:51Speaker 11: who's this?
- 1:52Speaker 9: And I'm like R or B like right right, right,
- 1:55Speaker 9: right right. So what's been the best part of the job.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Uh?
- 2:00Speaker 11: I really like all the different people we bring in
- 2:02Speaker 11: here and talk to. I feel like there's a lot
- 2:04Speaker 11: of stories and history that I wouldn't have known if
- 2:08Speaker 11: I was here for six months.
- 2:10Speaker 9: To music man talk about the music.
- 2:13Speaker 8: Trey has put together a lot of this music, and
- 2:16Speaker 8: he has done a terrific job because he understood my
- 2:21Speaker 8: taste pretty early in the process because it's old, really old.
- 2:25Speaker 9: But we have quite a variety, do we not.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:28Speaker 11: I whenever I started, there was a playlist that got
- 2:31Speaker 11: handed to me with Beetles and some old countries and
- 2:34Speaker 11: stuff like that. But we've kind of added to it
- 2:36Speaker 11: and made down with some temptations.
- 2:39Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, Eagles, Yes, we got to throw in some Motown.
- 2:42Speaker 11: Adding it up as we go some supreme Bob Seger.
- 2:46Speaker 11: Yeah yeah, So it's definitely been fun picking the vibe
- 2:49Speaker 11: for the day.
- 2:50Speaker 8: So any of this music that you started with me
- 2:54Speaker 8: were how aware were you of some of it? Did
- 2:58Speaker 8: you ever listen to any of it or not?
- 3:00Speaker 11: I listened to the Temptations, okay, Eagles all right, But
- 3:07Speaker 11: I've definitely started to know more of like the like
- 3:11Speaker 11: Texas history. Yeah, I didn't know anything about the Texas
- 3:14Speaker 11: Texas music.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Ye, but you've been chaff Yeah, nothing about that.
- 3:20Speaker 1: I love it.
- 3:21Speaker 11: Yeah, those guys Gary Pa.
- 3:24Speaker 9: Now I'm a pro.
- 3:25Speaker 3: If anybody asked me.
- 3:26Speaker 9: Say listen to this, this is awesome. So tell our
- 3:29Speaker 9: listeners what what you're going to be doing, because I
- 3:31Speaker 9: this is really cool.
- 3:33Speaker 11: I will be an editor, a sports editor at the Battalion,
- 3:37Speaker 11: the Texas A and M students newspaper. So this past
- 3:40Speaker 11: semester of the spring, I was just a writer. But
- 3:42Speaker 11: now I'm moving into a leadership position where I'll have
- 3:46Speaker 11: to go to games, go to sporting events, and you know,
- 3:49Speaker 11: write recaps. Right takeaway, help produce the student newspapers.
- 3:53Speaker 9: As you're standing here now, if you could have an
- 3:56Speaker 9: ideal gen this is a business you're interested in. Obviously,
- 4:00Speaker 9: we got an ideal job. What would that be?
- 4:04Speaker 3: My ideal job would be.
- 4:08Speaker 11: Maybe like some sort of information director with the university itself. Okay,
- 4:13Speaker 11: we're smart the outlet I'm having to compete with other
- 4:17Speaker 11: outlets and stuff. Yeah, if I was just an information
- 4:20Speaker 11: director or something with the university itself.
- 4:23Speaker 9: Beautiful to do that.
- 4:25Speaker 8: That's smart because, as you know, the newspaper industry hadn't
- 4:28Speaker 8: doing too well right now. The future is not too
- 4:31Speaker 8: great unfortunately, that's not a good thing. Uh. But and
- 4:36Speaker 8: a lot of guys who right are going into organizations
- 4:41Speaker 8: that are connected to universities and professional organizations. Right, Not
- 4:46Speaker 8: that there's any more security there, but maybe a little
- 4:50Speaker 8: bit more security.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Right.
- 4:52Speaker 11: Yeah, I'm excited to you know, close a chapter, start
- 4:56Speaker 11: another chapter, start growing up. I mean my senior year
- 4:59Speaker 11: and it's time become an adult and it's but I
- 5:03Speaker 11: got it.
- 5:04Speaker 8: All right, Well, you're gonna you're gonna have to help
- 5:06Speaker 8: Caleb out. I mean, Caleb knows what he's doing, but uh,
- 5:09Speaker 8: you gotta he already knows where the music is now.
- 5:13Speaker 8: And that's the biggest thing, right Trey. As we I've
- 5:16Speaker 8: said for years, that my shows aren't real good from
- 5:19Speaker 8: day to day, but but there are many days the
- 5:22Speaker 8: music is the best part of this year.
- 5:24Speaker 11: I'd always get excited whenever you'd react to the song
- 5:26Speaker 11: I played.
- 5:27Speaker 9: Yeah yeah.
- 5:27Speaker 11: So if I play something and you know, you just
- 5:29Speaker 11: go and.
- 5:29Speaker 9: Yeah yeah yeah. I'm like, you missed it. Well, you've
- 5:32Speaker 9: done good, man, You've done good.
- 5:34Speaker 8: I appreciate it. Best of luck. And uh, you're it's
- 5:38Speaker 8: not like you're moving, You're gonna be around. Yeah, I'll
- 5:40Speaker 8: be around, Thanks, Trey. I appreciate it.
- 5:42Speaker 9: Uh.
- 5:44Speaker 8: So, a cyber attack has exposed my personal information and
- 5:51Speaker 8: three million others. The Texas Parks and Wildlife announced on
- 5:57Speaker 8: a Saturday a vent under that handles the sale of
- 6:02Speaker 8: state hunting and phishing licenses was the victim of a
- 6:06Speaker 8: data breach. An unauthorized user may have swipe personal DL information,
- 6:13Speaker 8: passport numbers, email addresses, phone numbers, and residential addresses. Texas
- 6:21Speaker 8: Cyber Command detected the attack, which the Parks Department said
- 6:26Speaker 8: did not compromise social security data, birth or financial information.
- 6:34Speaker 8: The Parks Department said many of its own staff are
- 6:37Speaker 8: hunters and fishermen and were compromised. Affected customers are eligible
- 6:44Speaker 8: and you may not have seen this then making a huge.
- 6:47Speaker 9: Deal of it.
- 6:50Speaker 8: Affected customers eligible for one year of free credit monitoring
- 6:56Speaker 8: through Kroll by calling this number, but between now in
- 7:00Speaker 8: September fourteenth. Okay eight four four, nine five nine seventy
- 7:06Speaker 8: one two three eight four, four, nine, five nine seventy
- 7:12Speaker 8: one twenty three. Texas hunting license required of any person,
- 7:17Speaker 8: regardless of age, for hunting animals, birds, frogs, and turtles.
- 7:22Speaker 8: It's not necessarily true. I'm just reading this story. Either
- 7:28Speaker 8: fifteen or sixteen or under do not need a license
- 7:31Speaker 8: if you're accompanied by an adult with a license. But
- 7:35Speaker 8: licenses are important. There are fewer and fewer of them
- 7:39Speaker 8: being issued because the system.
- 7:42Speaker 9: Is aging out us.
- 7:44Speaker 8: Old people are the only ones doing hunting and fishing,
- 7:47Speaker 8: and unfortunately not enough younger people are hunting and fishing.
- 7:51Speaker 9: But again, if you have a.
- 7:54Speaker 8: State hunting or fishing license, it's been compromised and you
- 8:01Speaker 8: can get free credit monitoring for a year if you
- 8:06Speaker 8: call between now and September fourteenth.
- 8:09Speaker 3: You can google that.
- 8:10Speaker 9: You can google Parks and Wildlife website. They will have
- 8:13Speaker 9: that up.
- 8:13Speaker 8: If you didn't get the phone number to call, keep
- 8:17Speaker 8: that handy.
- 8:19Speaker 9: Okay, so all right.
- 8:21Speaker 8: We are in the Clark Eisenhower Outdoor Edition.
- 8:27Speaker 9: We're going to look back.
- 8:30Speaker 8: On a interview we did a few years ago with
- 8:34Speaker 8: super Guide and Hall of Fame fly fisherman Taylor Strike.
- 8:38Speaker 8: Then a show we taped just a couple of weeks
- 8:42Speaker 8: ago down at Lake Calcashew, and then some animals attacking
- 8:47Speaker 8: here on the Clark Eisenhower Outdoor Edition. We're in Taoas,
- 8:52Speaker 8: New Mexico Outdoor Edition, and we're visiting with Hall of
- 8:55Speaker 8: Fame fly fisherman Taylor Strike. Taylor has one of the
- 8:59Speaker 8: I think, one of the better gigs you could sit
- 9:02Speaker 8: out and you don't have to.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Stand up for me. This is radio.
- 9:06Speaker 8: You kind of are the unofficial official scout of New
- 9:11Speaker 8: Water for the Talas Fly Shop.
- 9:13Speaker 12: Indeed, I am.
- 9:13Speaker 13: Yes, nobody's actually asked me to do that, I but
- 9:18Speaker 13: I do it.
- 9:19Speaker 3: Well.
- 9:20Speaker 8: I can't imagine there's water within one hundred and fifty
- 9:23Speaker 8: or two hundred miles of here that you haven't fished before.
- 9:26Speaker 13: Well, I'm actually also working on a book that I've
- 9:29Speaker 13: been working on for a while for a while, which
- 9:33Speaker 13: is ties right in with that, because it's an in
- 9:36Speaker 13: depth book of fishing northern New Mexico fly fishing north
- 9:42Speaker 13: of New Mexico.
- 9:43Speaker 12: So it all fits in. And also, you know, I
- 9:50Speaker 12: like Vano.
- 9:51Speaker 8: Are you ever surprised at some areas you go to
- 9:55Speaker 8: either a you've been there before and it's changed, or
- 9:59Speaker 8: be occasionally find these gyms that you've never found before.
- 10:03Speaker 13: That's a great question, because it's something I think about
- 10:06Speaker 13: almost every day because one reason the book has taken
- 10:11Speaker 13: me so long is that if I just had managed
- 10:15Speaker 13: to do it in a year or two, there wouldn't
- 10:18Speaker 13: be all these changes, right, And so you know, whether
- 10:21Speaker 13: it's climate change or or or land status change.
- 10:26Speaker 12: Or what else is there?
- 10:29Speaker 13: You know, water rights, Yeah, a myriad of things that
- 10:37Speaker 13: you just would never think of, you know, that occurred
- 10:39Speaker 13: to these these waters that have to be updated.
- 10:43Speaker 12: So I'm updating the book as I go. I'm so
- 10:46Speaker 12: slow at it.
- 10:47Speaker 8: So well, I know there's a lot more people around,
- 10:50Speaker 8: that's a fact. The rivers are more crowded, the lakes
- 10:55Speaker 8: are more crowded, so there's more pressure on the fish.
- 10:58Speaker 8: And I know you spend some of your time battling
- 11:01Speaker 8: let's say, government officials who may not have the interest
- 11:05Speaker 8: of the outdoors person and fly fishermen at heart.
- 11:08Speaker 13: Well they're supposed to, one would think, but then you
- 11:12Speaker 13: come to realize what their motivations are to keep their job,
- 11:16Speaker 13: to keep their job, to not make any waves. You know,
- 11:20Speaker 13: I kind of get the feeling that, and you know,
- 11:23Speaker 13: and I talk to other people in the outdoor business
- 11:25Speaker 13: and stuff, and we all kind of like, I think
- 11:29Speaker 13: most everybody in the outdoor business has this bottom line,
- 11:33Speaker 13: which is what's best for the environment, and what you
- 11:37Speaker 13: know is like the unwritten like bottom line.
- 11:40Speaker 12: When you get the.
- 11:40Speaker 13: Government, it don't seem to work that way, and it
- 11:44Speaker 13: seems to be you know, like you think, maybe there's
- 11:47Speaker 13: a big sign as you walk into the office it says,
- 11:50Speaker 13: don't irritate the boss today, tomorrow or ever. And you
- 11:55Speaker 13: know they try and smooth everything out. Oh no, everything's
- 11:59Speaker 13: just going fine with that.
- 12:00Speaker 1: You know.
- 12:01Speaker 8: What's the biggest issue you see right now that you've
- 12:05Speaker 8: been spending time.
- 12:06Speaker 13: On, Well, the New Mexico Game of Fish has these
- 12:09Speaker 13: properties and they don't they won't stand up for the properties,
- 12:16Speaker 13: and so somebody comes in and buys like they have leases.
- 12:21Speaker 13: So somebody comes in and buys the property, but they're
- 12:26Speaker 13: and they should know when they buy the property that
- 12:30Speaker 13: it's got an agreement that the publican fish there in perpetuity,
- 12:35Speaker 13: but that quickly falls by the wayside because the game
- 12:43Speaker 13: warden or whoever it might be, they seem to be
- 12:47Speaker 13: kind of intimidated, not kind of definitely intimidated by people
- 12:51Speaker 13: with money, by you know, one of them person I'm
- 12:55Speaker 13: thinking of one of the landowners as a lawyer, and
- 12:58Speaker 13: you know.
- 12:58Speaker 12: That really got oh, we can't do nothing.
- 13:00Speaker 13: And then you know, so because they won't go to court,
- 13:03Speaker 13: they won't, they just you know, bend over. So yeah,
- 13:09Speaker 13: and I get so caught up in it and so
- 13:13Speaker 13: frustrated by it.
- 13:16Speaker 8: I know, in Colorado, where your brother owns a shop,
- 13:19Speaker 8: I mean, boy, it seems to me public access is.
- 13:22Speaker 3: Really narrower and narrower.
- 13:25Speaker 8: Every time I go up there in terms of trying
- 13:27Speaker 8: to get on a river. I know that you don't
- 13:30Speaker 8: want it to be that.
- 13:32Speaker 13: In New Mexico, well, but it is and it's becoming.
- 13:36Speaker 13: So now there's a big push in New Mexico and
- 13:41Speaker 13: with a new governor and a new game commission to
- 13:46Speaker 13: make all streams in New Mexico public fishing so that
- 13:51Speaker 13: you could start on. This is the way, say, Argentina
- 13:54Speaker 13: is where I used to take people fishing them for
- 13:57Speaker 13: a long time, excuse me. And so so there's this
- 14:02Speaker 13: big push to make everything public. And the point I
- 14:06Speaker 13: would like to make if anybody would ask me, this
- 14:09Speaker 13: doesn't seem to happen. I'm usually too outspoken for anybody
- 14:13Speaker 13: to except for you, jip, But is that what's happening
- 14:19Speaker 13: is these properties streams are getting.
- 14:22Speaker 12: Bought by very wealthy people.
- 14:25Speaker 13: They are taken out of any kind of sector, you know,
- 14:31Speaker 13: if they try and if they sell the fishing, like
- 14:35Speaker 13: we take people fishing on private stuff, and there's one
- 14:37Speaker 13: hundred dollars. One hundred dollars doesn't mean anything. It means
- 14:40Speaker 13: something to a farmer, right, but it doesn't mean anything
- 14:43Speaker 13: to the people that are buying these properties. So what's
- 14:46Speaker 13: happened is all these streams are getting bought up and
- 14:48Speaker 13: taken out of circulation for the foreseeable future. But if
- 14:55Speaker 13: there was such a law, then there would be probably
- 14:59Speaker 13: a lot less of that.
- 15:00Speaker 12: Yes, and and so.
- 15:02Speaker 8: So you're kind of you're fighting for that right now,
- 15:04Speaker 8: are you? Are you optimistic or not?
- 15:08Speaker 13: Well, I'm I'm on this other thing. I'm I'm in
- 15:11Speaker 13: a smaller scale. There's this piece of water over in trauma.
- 15:14Speaker 12: That that that you.
- 15:16Speaker 13: Probably have fished, and it's it's gotten posted and.
- 15:20Speaker 12: Bought bought by somebody and just that. So I'm kind
- 15:23Speaker 12: of working on.
- 15:24Speaker 3: A but on one thing at a time, right, you
- 15:27Speaker 3: got to go one stretch of river at a time.
- 15:29Speaker 13: Yeah, and not that other thing is too. You know,
- 15:31Speaker 13: I'm not in any kind of position really too. But
- 15:34Speaker 13: I well, if I ever get this book out, I
- 15:37Speaker 13: would be I can, I can, I can put my
- 15:39Speaker 13: two cents in there.
- 15:40Speaker 12: And I know that my current book.
- 15:43Speaker 13: Of fly Fishing New Mexico, which is you know, sold
- 15:46Speaker 13: forty thousand copies, is kind of the authority on what's
- 15:52Speaker 13: public and what's not, and people use it for that.
- 15:57Speaker 12: The Game Fish Department doesn't attend to it.
- 16:00Speaker 13: So you know, I've had people say that you know,
- 16:03Speaker 13: that's that's the authority, which I go, me, what, And
- 16:07Speaker 13: so I've had to take that into account and go, well,
- 16:12Speaker 13: you're going to be the only voice here, so you
- 16:14Speaker 13: know you need to get this right.
- 16:16Speaker 12: Yes, and uh so, because there's there's.
- 16:21Speaker 13: Uh these properties that are public access that the game
- 16:26Speaker 13: Fish Department doesn't even know they have.
- 16:28Speaker 8: So how would you describe the overall state of fishing.
- 16:34Speaker 8: I realized it's a broad question. Today as we sit
- 16:37Speaker 8: here today in northern New Mexico.
- 16:39Speaker 13: I'd say it's really never been better. Really, yeah, and
- 16:45Speaker 13: and and why is that? And I had, well, I
- 16:48Speaker 13: had a thing in the Albuquerque Journal a year or
- 16:51Speaker 13: two ago and I and they can be pretty uh
- 16:56Speaker 13: what's the word risky in what they print? And so
- 16:59Speaker 13: when I I said, Okay, I'm doing a talk and
- 17:02Speaker 13: I want somebody to be there, called the upside of
- 17:07Speaker 13: global warming. And so what it was was that the
- 17:13Speaker 13: raising temperature has been has made fishing in these parts better,
- 17:22Speaker 13: the seasons longer, it's almost I mean, we can catch
- 17:25Speaker 13: fish twelve months a year. And ah, but if you
- 17:33Speaker 13: looked at say southern New Mexico or the HeLa, that's
- 17:39Speaker 13: it's it's you know, that's a different story. And who
- 17:42Speaker 13: knows how long that'll be because I'm not I'm definitely
- 17:45Speaker 13: not a denier of you know, I think it'll we better.
- 17:50Speaker 13: Let's put it this way, we better fish it now. Well,
- 17:54Speaker 13: that's good before it gets too hot. But as it
- 17:57Speaker 13: stands now so many streams are in in great condition.
- 18:01Speaker 12: But I see more and more growth in the water.
- 18:08Speaker 13: You know a sign of degradation and things like that.
- 18:12Speaker 3: And so it seems to me that fishermen.
- 18:17Speaker 8: Are more aware of of what's going on these days.
- 18:21Speaker 8: Uh uh, there's more information out there just in terms
- 18:24Speaker 8: of preserving what they have and trying to to leave
- 18:27Speaker 8: it better than they found it.
- 18:29Speaker 12: Yeah, and it's in writing a guide book.
- 18:31Speaker 13: You kind of got that juggling thing where you're where
- 18:35Speaker 13: you're sending people to a spot that you know.
- 18:38Speaker 12: In some cases, you know what I'm being at. Yeah,
- 18:42Speaker 12: in some and in.
- 18:45Speaker 13: Some cases you you you want to. I just wrote
- 18:49Speaker 13: about one place which I won't mention his name. I went, oh,
- 18:54Speaker 13: nobody fishes there.
- 18:55Speaker 12: I've got to I've got to uh think about this.
- 18:59Speaker 13: And then I and I went as something which is
- 19:01Speaker 13: the truth. I said, well, you've got to make a
- 19:03Speaker 13: lot of casts.
- 19:04Speaker 12: To catch a fish there. It's going to be big,
- 19:07Speaker 12: but you got to make a lot of casts. So
- 19:11Speaker 12: I was trying to tone it down a little bit,
- 19:13Speaker 12: so you.
- 19:14Speaker 13: Know, I wasn't the one responsible for this big mass
- 19:17Speaker 13: of people going there.
- 19:18Speaker 8: I want to go back where I started in that
- 19:22Speaker 8: is there water around that is surprising you sometimes as
- 19:27Speaker 8: you scout, as you drive all over this part of
- 19:29Speaker 8: the country looking for different spots. Have you been surprised
- 19:33Speaker 8: at what you found the last year or two.
- 19:37Speaker 13: Well, the actually the surprise has not been It's not
- 19:44Speaker 13: been from me because it's all the guides have been
- 19:46Speaker 13: fishing there, so I don't need to go there and
- 19:48Speaker 13: scout it because we know what it is.
- 19:50Speaker 12: And that's the real grant.
- 19:51Speaker 13: Because we've had the situation with otters being put in
- 19:55Speaker 13: and I even.
- 19:59Speaker 12: Made up a big pitch about the negative thing about
- 20:04Speaker 12: eat fish.
- 20:05Speaker 13: Well, yeah, and you can't find much negative about otters.
- 20:08Speaker 12: I'll tell you what.
- 20:09Speaker 3: People love them. They're very cute.
- 20:10Speaker 13: I googled, you know, there was like man attack by otter,
- 20:14Speaker 13: but yeah, nothing, you know, and if you read research
- 20:19Speaker 13: on otters, you can pretty much throw a whole PhD's
- 20:22Speaker 13: paper away when it says they don't like to taste
- 20:25Speaker 13: the trout, because.
- 20:26Speaker 12: There's a whole lot of that.
- 20:27Speaker 13: There's a whole lot of like, you know, they really
- 20:30Speaker 13: like spawning trout is what they really like. And the
- 20:33Speaker 13: bigger the better. So they were causing a big of
- 20:39Speaker 13: having a big effect on the spawning rainbows of very
- 20:42Speaker 13: large rainbows in the Red River that came out of
- 20:45Speaker 13: the Rio grand a couple of years ago, but with
- 20:48Speaker 13: the super low water last year, they didn't come back.
- 20:52Speaker 13: And the fishing on the when I started before I
- 20:57Speaker 13: interrupted myself, is that the fishing on the rear grand
- 21:00Speaker 13: Is last year was just stellar, incredibly.
- 21:04Speaker 8: Good and you got to fish it early in a
- 21:07Speaker 8: long time because it was a dry year, right, Right,
- 21:09Speaker 8: this year's just opposite.
- 21:11Speaker 12: Right, this year's just in the long run.
- 21:14Speaker 8: Will that be good for the river? I mean there's
- 21:16Speaker 8: not people down there. They can't fish it right now.
- 21:18Speaker 13: I would assume, yeah, they'll make it through the Yeah,
- 21:21Speaker 13: they don't mind the runoff. You know, they get skinny
- 21:24Speaker 13: and whatnot. But you know, they grab around on the
- 21:27Speaker 13: bottom and they eat things. But apparently that otter thing,
- 21:32Speaker 13: Apparently the otters are very good for the Rio grand
- 21:36Speaker 13: and they've eliminated a lot of the competition. The trout
- 21:38Speaker 13: have like a carp pike and other fish that did
- 21:45Speaker 13: eat the same thing.
- 21:45Speaker 3: So right now it's turned out Okay.
- 21:47Speaker 12: It's turned out great.
- 21:48Speaker 13: Yeah, So you know, I mean, you get a lot
- 21:56Speaker 13: of those animals and you gotta I'm just trying to
- 21:59Speaker 13: report what we find out, right, and you know, it
- 22:03Speaker 13: was negative and then it's positive, and you know, it's
- 22:05Speaker 13: like right, we're like science.
- 22:07Speaker 8: It's it's the balance we both know is so delicate, right,
- 22:13Speaker 8: I mean people talk about it all the time, but
- 22:16Speaker 8: it's very delicate.
- 22:18Speaker 12: Yeah, yeah, it's like you just gotta uh.
- 22:23Speaker 13: And unfortunately, if you ask the government, they'll always say
- 22:27Speaker 13: that they know, we have studies on that. You know
- 22:30Speaker 13: that they don't because for instance, in the Rio Grande
- 22:34Speaker 13: they can't carry all the gear in there and it's
- 22:36Speaker 13: a big deal and we know about it when they
- 22:38Speaker 13: do it, and so you know.
- 22:41Speaker 12: Anyway, so where are you headed next?
- 22:44Speaker 8: There's always a stream, there's always a lake, there's always
- 22:47Speaker 8: a place you're looking for.
- 22:50Speaker 3: Which direction are you a headed west?
- 22:52Speaker 12: I kind of go in with the flows.
- 22:54Speaker 13: I look at the every fishing guide looks as flow rates,
- 22:58Speaker 13: as you say.
- 22:58Speaker 3: Which have been really high but because of the late
- 23:00Speaker 3: run off.
- 23:01Speaker 13: Right, but now they're getting just right. And so so
- 23:05Speaker 13: we are fishing over around Chauma quite a bit and
- 23:10Speaker 13: those flows are are are looking good. At it does
- 23:13Speaker 13: look like we lost some fish in the Trauma system.
- 23:15Speaker 13: There was a whole lot of big fish there last year,
- 23:18Speaker 13: and I didn't think the really low water would sustain
- 23:22Speaker 13: that that that population. It does look like we lost some,
- 23:25Speaker 13: but it's still well worth fishing. But but and then
- 23:29Speaker 13: I'm going to go over and try the Navajo River
- 23:31Speaker 13: on the Hickorea Indian Reservation.
- 23:34Speaker 8: Okay, See this guy's he's got a pretty good gig
- 23:37Speaker 8: right now.
- 23:38Speaker 3: And plus plus you don't have to guide people like
- 23:40Speaker 3: me anymore. Well, you're sleeping better.
- 23:42Speaker 12: At ighting is tough.
- 23:43Speaker 13: But the problem is is I'm pretty well worn out
- 23:47Speaker 13: of fishing.
- 23:47Speaker 12: It's like work, you know. I'd rather catfish and.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Like uh with a with a worm and a bobber.
- 23:53Speaker 12: Put a bell on the rod and go to sleep.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Unfortunately, I know what you're saying. Uh, okay, So when
- 24:00Speaker 3: that's the book coming out?
- 24:01Speaker 1: The book.
- 24:03Speaker 12: Any day now, any day?
- 24:05Speaker 8: Okay, So when it comes out, you're gonna come on
- 24:07Speaker 8: and talk about it.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Oh, you're gonna send me a copy.
- 24:09Speaker 12: I'd love to do.
- 24:11Speaker 3: You have a title for it yet, or that's going
- 24:13Speaker 3: to be.
- 24:13Speaker 13: Called for want of a better title, that's not the
- 24:17Speaker 13: way to start a pitch.
- 24:19Speaker 12: But it's going to be called fly.
- 24:21Speaker 13: Fishing Towles and Santa Fe. And that's because fly fishing
- 24:25Speaker 13: Northern New Mexico's taken fly fishing New Mexico's taken so anyway,
- 24:31Speaker 13: But that's pretty well.
- 24:32Speaker 12: That's where the people are.
- 24:33Speaker 13: That's not necessarily the fish, but that's where the peat,
- 24:37Speaker 13: the clients and fishermen come from.
- 24:40Speaker 12: So you know, there you go, we'll look for that.

- 29:25Speaker 5: Are you a retirement? Save you who scattered him?
- 29:33Speaker 18: I never saw the in.
- 29:35Speaker 8: We're in Hackbury, Louisiana with Captain William Fincher after a
- 29:40Speaker 8: day a morning on the water, and I told you
- 29:45Speaker 8: I probably shouldn't have told you, but I was ready
- 29:48Speaker 8: to go home after I caught that big red fish
- 29:50Speaker 8: on the top water early this morning. That's that's the best.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Man that'll do it. That'll get you excited.
- 29:57Speaker 20: And we worked south Mangle West Cove and got on
- 30:00Speaker 20: the top water bike with some red fish, hooked up
- 30:02Speaker 20: on some one some live shrimp, and made the best
- 30:05Speaker 20: of it.
- 30:05Speaker 3: We did.
- 30:06Speaker 8: And we thought, a man, we were gonna be there
- 30:09Speaker 8: a while because the bait was everywhere we had caught it.
- 30:12Speaker 8: We had that flurry and then even though the bait
- 30:16Speaker 8: was there, they were not eating.
- 30:18Speaker 20: They just shut down on us lockjaw to day the
- 30:20Speaker 20: backside of the moon, a little bit of wind kicked up,
- 30:23Speaker 20: you know, baits still pushed up against the bank. A
- 30:25Speaker 20: lot of bait insure fish are just they all over
- 30:29Speaker 20: the place. They're not scattered. They're scattered, they're not consolidated
- 30:33Speaker 20: in one area, so you just got a hunt for them.
- 30:35Speaker 20: We ended up with a few red fish, a couple
- 30:37Speaker 20: of trout, and some sheep head. But we made the
- 30:40Speaker 20: best of it.
- 30:41Speaker 8: The trout bite has been pretty good, has it not.
- 30:44Speaker 1: The trout's been good.
- 30:45Speaker 20: That green water moved in with that east wind we
- 30:47Speaker 20: had about a week ago, and uh, trout bite's been good.
- 30:50Speaker 20: Afternoon bites top water been good as well.
- 30:53Speaker 8: It was you mentioned the wind. So the big lake
- 30:56Speaker 8: was a little stirred up today.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Very stirred up.
- 30:58Speaker 20: Edges of the channels usually get green, but today they
- 31:01Speaker 20: were just turned hard incoming tides all day and very
- 31:05Speaker 20: little outgoing.
- 31:06Speaker 8: So but the outgoing and a change in direction can
- 31:11Speaker 8: can flip things pretty quickly around here, can it.
- 31:13Speaker 1: Oh, very very much.
- 31:14Speaker 20: So you could be fishing one area and no bite
- 31:17Speaker 20: and that tige go slack and switch and it'll lights out.
- 31:20Speaker 1: It'll turn them on real quick.
- 31:22Speaker 8: Show me a little bit. I know you grew up
- 31:24Speaker 8: in the area, you've been fishing here a while, Yeah.
- 31:26Speaker 20: We've been here since ninety nine, graduated from Hackberry High
- 31:30Speaker 20: and ten, so quite young, but been on these waters
- 31:33Speaker 20: for twenty plus years.
- 31:34Speaker 1: So what year?
- 31:35Speaker 8: What? How many in your graduating class at Hackberry?
- 31:39Speaker 1: Oh? Very small? I was.
- 31:40Speaker 20: I was nine of fifteen, so there were fifteen fifteen
- 31:44Speaker 20: of us graduated.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Yep.
- 31:45Speaker 8: So you could tell anybody that you graduated in the
- 31:49Speaker 8: top ten.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Absolutely, absolutely with a small class.
- 31:52Speaker 8: That's you don't have to say that. Very easily done.
- 31:55Speaker 8: You don't have to say that. You'll say I graduated
- 31:57Speaker 8: ninth in my class. You're going to impress some people,
- 32:00Speaker 8: that's right.
- 32:02Speaker 20: No, But we enjoyed the day and I appreciate, Uh,
- 32:05Speaker 20: mister Chip, mister James, get to.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Get to get out on the water.
- 32:08Speaker 8: It was it was great. Uh we got we got
- 32:10Speaker 8: no complaints, it's uh. We worked hard. We went to
- 32:14Speaker 8: a number of different places. We stopped one place where
- 32:17Speaker 8: the birds were working and I said, I don't know
- 32:20Speaker 8: because the water was really kind of dirty in that place.
- 32:23Speaker 8: And I said, I don't know. I'm thinking there may
- 32:25Speaker 8: be hard heads there and guess what.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Yeah, slimelines, Well, nothing but the.
- 32:29Speaker 8: Hard You know what I told you, You know, I
- 32:32Speaker 8: brought in and I was throwing hard to fish, and
- 32:34Speaker 8: I brought in there is just and I had a
- 32:35Speaker 8: little hit. I said, hey, I got a hit, and
- 32:37Speaker 8: then I brought it in. There was just a little slime,
- 32:40Speaker 8: and I'm going, uh, that's never a good sign.
- 32:43Speaker 1: Never. Never. We didn't waste much time there though.
- 32:45Speaker 20: We got out of there and went and found some
- 32:46Speaker 20: clean water and uh a few small trouts today.
- 32:51Speaker 8: Hard to find clean water today.
- 32:52Speaker 1: Very much, very much. Uh. Up in Black Lake, there's
- 32:56Speaker 1: probably some clean water.
- 32:57Speaker 20: We did fish some of Kesso buy you and he
- 33:00Speaker 20: and UH just didn't pan out for us the best,
- 33:02Speaker 20: But we did make a good day of it.
- 33:03Speaker 8: Well, I'll tell you what I kept telling you. I
- 33:07Speaker 8: caught a few croker and I said, man, if I
- 33:09Speaker 8: could just catch one half that size, I'm not taking
- 33:12Speaker 8: him off the hook.
- 33:12Speaker 1: There you go using his live bait.
- 33:14Speaker 20: Them trout loved him, like, hey, dude, don't they It's
- 33:17Speaker 20: like candy.
- 33:18Speaker 1: That's it. Especially you get a good trout on some
- 33:20Speaker 1: live crokers.
- 33:22Speaker 8: Do you ever do much live croker fishing?
- 33:24Speaker 1: I do sometimes late late in the year. You know
- 33:28Speaker 1: those big in the fall. You're talking in the.
- 33:29Speaker 8: Fall, that's right, and they're feeding up for winter.
- 33:31Speaker 1: That's right, yep.
- 33:32Speaker 20: We we'll catch some big trout on the edge of
- 33:35Speaker 20: these lakes on the reefs.
- 33:37Speaker 1: Fishing has been well though.
- 33:39Speaker 8: I got to tell you and I, you know, follow
- 33:43Speaker 8: Cage and Paradise, and I see the pictures the quality
- 33:47Speaker 8: of trout. And you've been here a long time. They
- 33:49Speaker 8: changed the rules. They took the guide limit out. They
- 33:53Speaker 8: raised it from twelve to thirteen inches. You don't think
- 33:56Speaker 8: that's much, but from what I've seen and fish here
- 34:01Speaker 8: in the last couple of years, that's really making a difference.
- 34:04Speaker 8: I'm seeing some really good trout come out of here.
- 34:07Speaker 20: I have to you know, just a few trips ago
- 34:09Speaker 20: we had some some I had one go close to
- 34:12Speaker 20: seven pounds. We let her go back. But there's been
- 34:15Speaker 20: a lot of good quality fish being caught. I do
- 34:18Speaker 20: believe that the thirteen inch size limit has done some good.
- 34:21Speaker 20: And cutting the guide limit out. You know, you bring
- 34:24Speaker 20: two people out and catch forty five trout, that's more
- 34:27Speaker 20: than one person can eat out in a sitting. And
- 34:30Speaker 20: you know, trout really don't keep well frozen. So you
- 34:33Speaker 20: got there and catch you a good mess of trout,
- 34:35Speaker 20: go home and eat them within the first week or two.
- 34:37Speaker 20: And that's that's some fine eating.
- 34:39Speaker 8: I'm telling you what. That was a hard fight to
- 34:42Speaker 8: do that though, wasn't it.
- 34:44Speaker 1: It was, But we make it happen.
- 34:48Speaker 8: Well, you're seeing the results of it because you grew
- 34:51Speaker 8: up here and you're on the water every day, and
- 34:53Speaker 8: I know, four or five years ago we'd come out.
- 34:56Speaker 8: I'm not saying there, what's some big trout caught every
- 34:58Speaker 8: now and then by but you're catching a lot of
- 35:01Speaker 8: twelve eleven thirteen inch trout right boat loads.
- 35:05Speaker 20: And you know, right now it's still the trout size
- 35:08Speaker 20: and the red fish size are kind of small. So
- 35:11Speaker 20: that means we're going to have a good, good continuing year,
- 35:14Speaker 20: some good trout. You know, you at twelve and thirteen
- 35:16Speaker 20: inch mark, you know, just below thirteen.
- 35:18Speaker 8: So you had a pretty good winner in terms of
- 35:20Speaker 8: not being too cold, that's right.
- 35:22Speaker 20: We only had one one hard freeze that we seen
- 35:24Speaker 20: a little fish kill, but it wasn't it wasn't horrible.
- 35:27Speaker 8: Okay, And it's so that's been a couple of three
- 35:31Speaker 8: or four years that we've you know, survived the winter, right.
- 35:34Speaker 20: Yes, for sure, we did have a good hard freeze
- 35:38Speaker 20: a couple of years ago that had a pretty good
- 35:40Speaker 20: fish kill.
- 35:40Speaker 1: And we've seen the results of it after that.
- 35:43Speaker 8: Given the chance, if I told you had one fishing
- 35:49Speaker 8: trip left, what would you be fishing for it? How
- 35:53Speaker 8: would you do it?
- 35:54Speaker 20: If I had one fishing trip left, it would probably
- 35:57Speaker 20: be cruising the lake and looking on of crab corks
- 36:01Speaker 20: looking for some tripletail.
- 36:02Speaker 8: Triple tail. You told me you've seen a few, and.
- 36:05Speaker 1: I look for some today as we passed by there.
- 36:07Speaker 8: It's hard to find today because the water is dirty.
- 36:09Speaker 20: Water's dirty and it's a little choppy, but there's been
- 36:12Speaker 20: a good mess of tripletail throughout the lake.
- 36:14Speaker 1: The mouth of the lake West Cove were corks.
- 36:19Speaker 8: When do they start showing up? When do you start
- 36:21Speaker 8: seeing them?
- 36:21Speaker 20: They usually start seeing them right around this time, and
- 36:24Speaker 20: gets better throughout the summer hot when it's hot and
- 36:28Speaker 20: they're underneath the shade side of those corks.
- 36:31Speaker 8: I told you, I've got pictures here. When we went
- 36:34Speaker 8: to the short rigs had caught a bunch of big
- 36:37Speaker 8: triple tail, and man, you're right, it was still because
- 36:40Speaker 8: we've got out there and it was.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Hot conditions for fishing.
- 36:44Speaker 20: Whenever it's perfect it's warm outside, because that means the
- 36:47Speaker 20: wind isn't blowing.
- 36:48Speaker 1: So you you asked for a little breeze here and there?
- 36:50Speaker 8: Do you get off shore much?
- 36:52Speaker 1: I do?
- 36:52Speaker 20: I have a friend of mine, Jared Johnson, he owns
- 36:55Speaker 20: a thirty seven freemen and we we attend offshore.
- 36:58Speaker 8: A lot go to the rig beyond one.
- 37:01Speaker 20: Hundred and seventy one hundred and eighty two hundred miles,
- 37:03Speaker 20: would do overnight trips yep. A lot of good groupers, scamps,
- 37:07Speaker 20: warsaw more deep drop.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Fish dropping, jigging. Yes, sir, are you more.
- 37:12Speaker 8: Offer you'll see interested in bringing that home to eat
- 37:14Speaker 8: than than they're all good eating.
- 37:16Speaker 1: But there ain't nothing like some old groupers, Yes, exactly.
- 37:21Speaker 8: How can folks get in touch with you, William if
- 37:24Speaker 8: they want to come to Hackberry and fish with you?
- 37:27Speaker 20: Well, anybody can call Captain Kevin Bruce over Cajun Paradise
- 37:31Speaker 20: fishing charters and recommend or you know, acts for William
- 37:36Speaker 20: Fincher and he'll give me a call and we can
- 37:38Speaker 20: go out and give him a try.
- 37:40Speaker 1: All right.
- 37:40Speaker 8: Uh, it's always a great day at Hackberry. And I've
- 37:44Speaker 8: said this many different times. Slow in Hackberry and slow
- 37:50Speaker 8: other places, even along the Texas coast, are two different
- 37:54Speaker 8: things in my mind.
- 37:55Speaker 1: That's right. You know.
- 37:56Speaker 20: It's fish sized limits over there and the bag limits
- 37:59Speaker 20: over there are quite differ, and so what we consider
- 38:01Speaker 20: slow is a little bit faster faced in the Texas coastline.
- 38:05Speaker 8: It's hard to get skunked around here.
- 38:06Speaker 1: It's hard, yeah, real, it's hard.
- 38:08Speaker 8: You've got to try real hard to get skunk.
- 38:10Speaker 1: But I'm not gonna say it can't happen.
- 38:12Speaker 8: I know it can happen. I've been here in like
- 38:14Speaker 8: late July, early August when we're fishing inside, you know,
- 38:18Speaker 8: and I know it can happen, but it doesn't happen
- 38:21Speaker 8: very often. Captain William Fincher is with us here in Hackbury,
- 38:26Speaker 8: Louisiana on the Clark Eisenhower Outdoor Edition.
- 38:30Speaker 9: All right, that was our latest trip to Lake Calcashew.
- 38:35Speaker 9: And we had to scratch and claw, caught a few fish.
- 38:39Speaker 9: And again, if you follow me on social media, see
- 38:43Speaker 9: the picture of the big redfish. Man. What a thrill
- 38:46Speaker 9: to catch one of those on top water. All right,
- 38:50Speaker 9: we've got animals attacking. I know you're waiting for that.
- 38:53Speaker 9: We're all waiting for it.
- 38:54Speaker 8: We will get to that after the Rangers report brought
- 38:57Speaker 8: to you by Shulti Roofing and the deck Her Financial Group.
- 39:01Speaker 10: It was after a hailstorm a few years back. I
- 39:03Speaker 10: needed a new roof. Yeah, I shopped around and then
- 39:06Speaker 10: I found Shorlty Roofing and point. I'm glad I did.
- 39:08Speaker 10: The folks at Shulty guided me every step of the way.
- 39:11Speaker 10: They showed me my options, They told me what my
- 39:14Speaker 10: out of pocket cost would be after insurance. They took
- 39:17Speaker 10: the complication out of an otherwise very stressful situation. They
- 39:20Speaker 10: took off the damage roof, put on the new roof,
- 39:22Speaker 10: did all the cleanup, and I had my new roof
- 39:24Speaker 10: in one day, the whole volley roof.
- 39:32Speaker 4: If you were Texas Rangers or Boort, I'm doing more.
- 39:35Speaker 4: The Rangers lose their over match against the Marlins as
- 39:37Speaker 4: they traveled to Canada to play the Blue Jays.

- 40:12Speaker 4: Yesterday, the Texas Rangers wrapped up their series in Miami
- 40:15Speaker 4: against the Marlins. They were able to strike first with
- 40:18Speaker 4: the Wyatt Langford homer in the fourth inning.
- 40:22Speaker 6: Here's why, Att Langford and Wyant Sid's one high and
- 40:24Speaker 6: deep into center. Marcy going back, looking up and it's
- 40:28Speaker 6: into the home run harbor. Wyatt Langford touches them all
- 40:34Speaker 6: his seventh to run of the season. He has put
- 40:37Speaker 6: Texas on top one nothing.
- 40:39Speaker 4: Miami, though, would respond and take the lead with the
- 40:41Speaker 4: run of the fourth and fifth. Miami would add two
- 40:44Speaker 4: more in the eighth and hang on in the ninth
- 40:46Speaker 4: as Pete Fairbanks picked up his twelfth save of the season.
- 40:49Speaker 4: Jacob de Grom got the loss, and his record is
- 40:51Speaker 4: now six wins and five losses. The Rangers are in

- 41:54Speaker 9: Glad to have you with us on the Clark Eisenhower
- 41:56Speaker 9: Outdoor Edition. Ryan is in Tomorrowmorrow, we'll have an interview
- 42:01Speaker 9: with PJ. Haggerty, the one of the Aggie basketball transfers
- 42:07Speaker 9: and the leading returning score in the NCAA from last
- 42:10Speaker 9: year at Kansas State. We'll be back on Monday. Rusty
- 42:14Speaker 9: will be with me on Monday. Also Rich Shae from
- 42:17Speaker 9: Major League Eating. We'll talk about the Big Hot Dog contest.
- 42:20Speaker 9: It is a tradition here on the show, as you
- 42:24Speaker 9: well know. A North Carolina couple accused of luring hordes
- 42:28Speaker 9: of vultures to their home and unleashing chaos on neighbors
- 42:33Speaker 9: for years, is being hauled to court by the fed
- 42:35Speaker 9: up town officials desperate to in the feathered frenzy. The
- 42:41Speaker 9: town of Hillsbro slapped residents Kenneth and Linda Austrand with
- 42:50Speaker 9: a civil petition seeking a court order to shut down
- 42:53Speaker 9: the relentless bird feeding habit blame for allegedly drawing dungeons,
- 42:58Speaker 9: dozens of wings skis avagers to their home and terrorizing
- 43:01Speaker 9: their small town the last two years. They're a little
- 43:05Speaker 9: spooky to be Frank Set a concerned neighbor. Everybody thinks
- 43:13Speaker 9: they're ugly and stuff, but they're not good neighbors. I'm
- 43:18Speaker 9: assuming he's talking about the birds. By the way. This
- 43:21Speaker 9: is in North Carolina. The bird brained couple is accused
- 43:27Speaker 9: of leaving out food scraps for vultures, allegedly reeling in
- 43:32Speaker 9: the feathered predators that have swarmed and roosted near their house.
- 43:37Speaker 9: Those things stink, neighbor holding Richards said the vultures I
- 43:41Speaker 9: mentioned her spooky. The complaint filed claims the twisted pair
- 43:47Speaker 9: named the birds of prey, with photos submitted to the
- 43:50Speaker 9: court showing dozens of them circling their home. I'm pretty
- 43:54Speaker 9: sure every one of my neighbors has probably called, says Richards.
- 43:59Speaker 9: The Astrans reportedly fall in motion to dismiss the town's
- 44:02Speaker 9: case last month, denying the accusations. Linda Austrand, longtime wildlife rescuer,
- 44:08Speaker 9: told a TV station she's being unfairly targeted by her
- 44:13Speaker 9: community and claimed the circling vultures were already an issue
- 44:17Speaker 9: before she moved into the neighborhood. It's sort of it's ridiculous.
- 44:21Speaker 8: It is what it is, says Linda, noting the town
- 44:25Speaker 8: changed in ordinance after the initial wave of complaints to.
- 44:28Speaker 9: Ban wildlife feeding. Well, duh.
- 44:30Speaker 8: If people didn't have vultures around here, you would hear
- 44:33Speaker 8: them screaming bloody murder about the town not cleaning up
- 44:36Speaker 8: the animals that hit by cars.
- 44:38Speaker 9: I don't think so.
- 44:40Speaker 3: I don't know what I'm supposed to do.
- 44:43Speaker 9: Tell the vultures that this is a no feed zone.
- 44:47Speaker 9: I just don't know what these people are. Bird brained.
- 44:52Speaker 9: I don't think there's any doubt about that. I don't
- 44:55Speaker 9: think there's any question about that.
- 44:58Speaker 8: An aggressive duck has been terrorizing a sleepy, Florida neighborhood
- 45:03Speaker 8: and attacking its elderly residents, even bloodying one of the locals.
- 45:08Speaker 8: A federally protected muscovie duck, who's.
- 45:12Speaker 9: Since been named Jimmy. When you start naming him, it's
- 45:15Speaker 9: a problem, has chased several people with its wings spread
- 45:18Speaker 9: out in attack mode, and brazenly bitten a resident while
- 45:22Speaker 9: he was sleepy in Cape Coral. James Sopovida was bitten
- 45:27Speaker 9: by the vicious waterfowl last week. He's lived in the
- 45:30Speaker 9: neighborhood for nearly three decades.
- 45:33Speaker 8: For the first time, a duck has drawn blood on
- 45:37Speaker 8: his own porch, I said on my porch seven to
- 45:40Speaker 8: seven thirty at this time of the year, to catch
- 45:42Speaker 8: the sunset, you know, some sun I had my eyes closed.
- 45:45Speaker 8: All of a sudden, it felt a jab on my
- 45:47Speaker 8: hand and it was bleeding. The black duck, which is native.
- 45:51Speaker 9: To Texas in several Latin American countries but not Florida,
- 45:55Speaker 9: was the culprit. Although the Migratory Bird Treaty Act protects
- 45:58Speaker 9: that breed of duck, so Paul would have says, if
- 46:01Speaker 9: it attacks, it injures people, that should be shown no mercy.
- 46:06Speaker 8: Yes, Sir James, get them before they get you.
- 46:12Speaker 10: It was after a hailstorm a few years back. I
- 46:15Speaker 10: needed a new roof. Yeah, I shopped around and then
- 46:17Speaker 10: I found Shorlty Roofing, and boy, I'm glad I did.
- 46:20Speaker 10: The folks at Shulty guided me every step of the way.
- 46:23Speaker 10: They showed me my options, They told me what my
- 46:25Speaker 10: out of pocket cost would be after insurance. They took
- 46:28Speaker 10: the complication out of an otherwise very stressful situation. They
- 46:31Speaker 10: took off the damage roof, put on the new roof,
- 46:33Speaker 10: did all the cleanup, and I had my new roof
- 46:36Speaker 10: in one day.
- 46:39Speaker 19: The whole by the vom roof.
- 46:44Speaker 9: We're on the Clark Eisenhower Outdoor. Addition, Mercury Selacis was
- 46:49Speaker 9: attacked and killed by a shark off Long Reef Beach
- 46:53Speaker 9: in Australia, and in his final moments did something heroic.
- 46:59Speaker 9: This attack occurred less than a year ago, with Selakis
- 47:04Speaker 9: and his friends surfing near Sydney's North beach as a
- 47:07Speaker 9: great white attacked him, tore him in half, cut his
- 47:12Speaker 9: surfboard in half. He lost both legs. Was pronounced dead
- 47:17Speaker 9: at the scene. People on the beach try to grab
- 47:19Speaker 9: hold of him bring him to shore. Mark Morgenthal was
- 47:23Speaker 9: there witnessed the attack. He described the shark as enormous.
- 47:28Speaker 9: The guy was screaming, I don't want to get bitten,
- 47:32Speaker 9: don't bite me. Then I saw the tailfin come up
- 47:35Speaker 9: start kicking. The distance between the dorsal fin and the
- 47:39Speaker 9: tailfin looked to be about four meters that's twelve feet.
- 47:44Speaker 9: It looked like a shark that was close to eighteen feet,
- 47:48Speaker 9: he said. His friend, a former professional surfer, Toby Martin,
- 47:52Speaker 9: later spoke about Silaka's final heroic act, actively calling out
- 47:59Speaker 9: to warn others about the shark. He was at the
- 48:02Speaker 9: back of the pack, still try to get everyone together
- 48:05Speaker 9: when the shark lined him up. It came straight from
- 48:08Speaker 9: behind and breached and dropped straight on him. They normally
- 48:13Speaker 9: come from the side, but this one came from behind.
- 48:17Speaker 9: It was so quick.
- 48:20Speaker 19: Wowsers.
- 48:26Speaker 9: A giraffe is on the loose in Real County, Texas
- 48:34Speaker 9: hill Country. The owners are offering a five thousand dollars
- 48:39Speaker 9: reward for information leading to Gracie's return. Gracie has rounded
- 48:47Speaker 9: ears was recently spotted on a game camera in the area.
- 48:53Speaker 9: Anyone who spots the giraffe or has information about her
- 48:57Speaker 9: whereabouts is asked to contact RAN manager Vic Jones or
- 49:02Speaker 9: the Real County Sheriff's office. Authorities didn't say how long
- 49:08Speaker 9: Gracie had been missing, but or encouraging those to come
- 49:13Speaker 9: forward with information.
- 49:15Speaker 3: I have a question, how do you lose.
- 49:20Speaker 9: A giraffe? How is it possible to lose a giraffe?
- 49:28Speaker 9: It escaped from the Cedar Hollow ranch after climbing up
- 49:32Speaker 9: a rocky area to make it outside the properties game fence. Wow,
- 49:38Speaker 9: that's difficult if you have a game fence that a
- 49:41Speaker 9: giraffe could get over. That rural area lots of private ranches.
- 49:49Speaker 9: Since her disappearance, she has been spotted on other properties,
- 49:52Speaker 9: but the exact location is still unknown.
- 49:57Speaker 8: We know the general area, says Owns. We're going to
- 50:01Speaker 8: expand our search. The Real County Sheriff previously had told
- 50:07Speaker 8: us say today there were some current some concerns for
- 50:10Speaker 8: Gracie's safety in the rugged terrain, though there are sometimes
- 50:16Speaker 8: sightings of mountain lions shown. Says he's not too worried
- 50:19Speaker 8: about Gracy's safety because mountain lions are relatively rare. As
- 50:23Speaker 8: for kyot she can kick a coyote and the next week,
- 50:27Speaker 8: said the sheriff.
- 50:28Speaker 9: I like that.
- 50:30Speaker 8: While living at Cedar Hollow Ranch, Gracie enjoys a diet
- 50:33Speaker 8: of foliage from the trees alfalfa, a sixteen percent protein feed, carrots, apples,
- 50:40Speaker 8: sweet potatoes. On the run, she won't be wanting for food,
- 50:46Speaker 8: he says. There's plenty for her to graze on and
- 50:50Speaker 8: water from recent rainfalls.
- 50:51Speaker 9: She's about four.
- 50:52Speaker 8: Years old, not quite fully grown, purchased in May by
- 50:58Speaker 8: the owners of the ranch to join another giraffe they
- 51:03Speaker 8: had named Atlas. The ranch had giraffes on the property
- 51:10Speaker 8: for about thirty years, but Gracie's behavior was a surprise.
- 51:15Speaker 8: She's the only giraffe that ever ventured to the area
- 51:19Speaker 8: where she escaped a solid rock slab. A giraffe normally
- 51:24Speaker 8: wouldn't be able to maneuver it. Jones says he's already
- 51:27Speaker 8: contacted a fence company to secure the area. He's quite
- 51:31Speaker 8: the athlete for a giraffe, says Jones says he's been
- 51:35Speaker 8: contacting different property owners in the area asking for permission
- 51:40Speaker 8: to search their land. He says he's going to hire
- 51:44Speaker 8: a helicopter to give better visibility. That's not cheap. Johnson said.
- 51:48Speaker 8: The Sheriff's office has found a brain a bowl in
- 51:51Speaker 8: the area and is looking for that owner. Coming across
- 51:56Speaker 8: a wandering bull isn't too out of the ordinary. There
- 51:59Speaker 8: are a lot of landowners with that. Cedar Hollow Ranch
- 52:02Speaker 8: has quote a couple of hundred animals, all told with
- 52:07Speaker 8: multiple species of.
- 52:09Speaker 9: Ibex analope deer.
- 52:12Speaker 8: In Johnson's career, he's dealt with missing water buffalo, chimpanzees,
- 52:17Speaker 8: other types of monkeys. We've all had kinds of exotics
- 52:22Speaker 8: over the years escape the owner's containment. They go on
- 52:26Speaker 8: a fling. In almost thirty years of being a lawman,
- 52:30Speaker 8: this is my first escape e giraffe.
- 52:36Speaker 3: I'm just saying, be on.
- 52:38Speaker 8: The lookout for Gracie if you're headed anywhere to the
- 52:43Speaker 8: hill country.
- 52:46Speaker 9: And then there's this.
- 52:51Speaker 8: Minnesota wild story atv accidentally comes upon a missing woman
- 52:59Speaker 8: up to her.
- 53:01Speaker 18: In mud.
- 53:03Speaker 8: In northern New Mexico, Adam Sandbeck Mike Gravelin were exploring
- 53:10Speaker 8: trails when they decided to take an unplanned short cut.
- 53:15Speaker 3: They were thirty.
- 53:16Speaker 8: Miles east of the RV park and running low on gas.
- 53:20Speaker 8: They found a short cut on a minimum maintenance road.
- 53:24Speaker 8: They turned onto an unmarked trail full of potholes. After
- 53:28Speaker 8: navigating the rough, muddy terrain, they rounded a corner found
- 53:34Speaker 8: a mini van stuck in the mud gravelin I retired
- 53:39Speaker 8: US Deputy Marshall immediately on alert. How did the minivan
- 53:44Speaker 8: make it out here?
- 53:45Speaker 9: Was it hiding? Were they waiting to ambush them?
- 53:50Speaker 8: They approached the vehicle and saw a body lying in
- 53:54Speaker 8: a puddle.
- 53:56Speaker 3: They could only see a woman's.
- 53:58Speaker 8: Hand and parts of her face above the surface of
- 54:02Speaker 8: the water, and heard a whisper, help me. The two
- 54:07Speaker 8: men found a woman stuck in the mud, almost out
- 54:12Speaker 8: of view. Katherine Wosner of Alexandria had been missing for
- 54:19Speaker 8: three days sixty eight. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office had
- 54:25Speaker 8: set an endangered missing person alert, saying she had a
- 54:29Speaker 8: medical condition that raised concerns.
- 54:31Speaker 9: For her safety.
- 54:33Speaker 8: She had last been seen six miles away when she
- 54:37Speaker 8: got stuck in rural Cass County. She got out of
- 54:42Speaker 8: her stuck vehicle, only to stick herself in two feet
- 54:47Speaker 8: deep mud that.
- 54:48Speaker 9: She says was like quick said. She ended up almost
- 54:53Speaker 9: completely submerged for three days. No word why she was
- 55:02Speaker 9: out there in her minivan.
- 55:05Speaker 8: By the way, but she's alive thanks to these two
- 55:13Speaker 8: guys in the middle of the woods.
- 55:16Speaker 9: Again.
- 55:17Speaker 8: Would love to hear more about the story. How did
- 55:22Speaker 8: the minivan get there? What was she doing?
- 55:32Speaker 9: So many questions, so few answers. I want to send
- 55:42Speaker 9: you over to see my friend Bubba Dixon. He's at
- 55:44Speaker 9: Tegler's Chevrolet in Sealy. The Tagler family has built that
