- 0:34Lord, help us not to take your name in vain, Father, but help
- 0:38us to lift it up high over all of our circumstances and
- 0:41emotions and feelings. God, help us to lift it up high
- 0:45over every thought process. God, I pray that we can make our
- 0:50thoughts subject to the reality of the Word of Godfather.
- 0:55I pray as we open up your word today that you will be well
- 0:58pleased with the reading and the teaching of it.
- 1:00Bless us today, God, bless our hearts, bless our minds, bless
- 1:06our families, bless our bodies. God, as we bless you.
- 1:11Lord, let our prayers and let this reading be a pleasing aroma
- 1:16unto you. Lord, you are the Most High.
- 1:19God, you are the only one true living God and Lord, we pray for
- 1:25your Rhema today, Your spoken word, Lord, let it be bread and
- 1:30living water unto us, Lord. It is the bread of life, God,
- 1:34and we dine sumptuously upon it. Father, I pray God that you will
- 1:41come and have your will and have your way in our lives.
- 1:45Lord, let us get out of our own way.
- 1:47Let us get out of our own selfishness.
- 1:50God and we pray for the Holy Spirit to increase in our lives.
- 1:54God, I pray for the baptism of fire.
- 1:56God, I pray that you, Lord, will come and sit here in this room
- 2:03and teach us, Holy Spirit, teach us the eternal paths, teach us
- 2:07all of the things that we need to know for today.
- 2:11Let today take care of itself, God Almighty.
- 2:14And we do not worry about anything, God, but we put our
- 2:18full faith and our full trust in you, Lord, and we replace every
- 2:23lie of the enemy, God, with the truth and the reality of your
- 2:27word that you have given us. God, I pray that I will decrease
- 2:32as you increase. And it's all about you, King
- 2:34Jesus. We love you, Father, heal us
- 2:37today, God, heal our broken bodies, heal our families.
- 2:41God heal this nation and heal all the hurt in the world.
- 2:46Lord, we love you Father, and it's in Jesus Christ, holy and
- 2:50precious name that I pray, Amen. Let's start in verse one.
- 3:00There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a
- 3:05centurion of the band called the Italian band.
- 3:10So here this centurion would have been a despised man of the
- 3:16Jews, and here we know he was a Gentile, and here we know that
- 3:21he was a God fear. And we're going to see that as
- 3:25this chapter plays out, that God has a divine purpose for
- 3:33Cornelius in his house. And it is, it has affected you
- 3:38and me as the unnatural grafted in, and you're going to see it
- 3:42get birthed right here as God speaks to Cornelius and then to
- 3:51Peter. Verse 2A devout man and one that
- 3:57feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the
- 4:02people and prayed to God always. We know that we can't come unto
- 4:08God except through the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 4:12So a lot of Cornelius's affection towards God was well
- 4:17meaning, but he was about to show him the true path in the
- 4:23way that he must come to himself, which is through Jesus.
- 4:29Through he saw in a vision, evidently about the ninth hour
- 4:34of the day, an Angel of God coming in to him and saying unto
- 4:41him, Cornelius. So here we know that God can
- 4:46speak to us in a myriad of ways, and sometimes He will speak
- 4:51audibly as He has many times in the past that we have seen and
- 4:56read about. But here he's coming in a vision
- 5:01as Cornelius has postured his heart in the right manner.
- 5:06Here we're going to see that God is well pleased to speak to him.
- 5:15Four. And when he looked on him, he
- 5:18was afraid and said, What is it Lord?
- 5:23And he said unto him, Your prayers and your alms are come
- 5:28up for a memorial before God. What a deep dive theological
- 5:33discussion that we could have about this.
- 5:37Imagine how this man is not yet saved, but his prayers are
- 5:43coming up as a memorial unto God.
- 5:47What an amazing thought, friends, and we can see here now
- 5:55our conscience bears witness, and in the day of Jesus Christ
- 6:00we will either be accused or excused.
- 6:05And you can see that God's ways are not our ways.
- 6:08And we can't put God in a box. And he realizes that he is Lord,
- 6:17and he is seeing him here in this vision. 5 And now send men
- 6:23to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter. 6
- 6:30He lodges with one Simon, a Tanner, whose house is by the
- 6:35seaside. He shall tell you what you ought
- 6:39to do. So here God is inviting the
- 6:42Gentiles in, and he's using Cornelius here, and he's going
- 6:46to speak to Peter. Let's keep going. 7 And when the
- 6:52Angel which spoke unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of
- 6:56his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that
- 7:01waited on him continually. 8 And when he had declared all these
- 7:07things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.
- 7:12So this Cornelius was a powerful man, perhaps over 100 soldiers
- 7:17of the Italian band, and he was working for Rome, and he had at
- 7:24his disposal servants, and he had a soldier who was devout and
- 7:29was ministering unto him. And he's seen this vision.
- 7:34And he was supposed to go to Simon the Tanner's house by the
- 7:37seaside, and to call for a Simon also surnamed Peter.
- 7:44Imagine the whole scene, friends. 9 And on the Morrow, as
- 7:49they went on their journey and drew near unto the city, Peter
- 7:53went up on the housetop to pray about the 6th hour.
- 7:58So here this housetop would have been up on the roof, kind of
- 8:05like a porch, and it was not uncommon for the houses of that
- 8:09day to have a place on the roof for someone to go and to sit.
- 8:15And here Peter goes up to pray. 10 And he became very hungry and
- 8:22would have eaten, but while they made ready, he fell into a
- 8:27trance. So let's lock in.
- 8:30Pay attention, friends. Here Peter is up on the rooftop,
- 8:36and he is meditating upon God, and he's very hungry, and he
- 8:42falls into a trance. 11 And he saw heaven open in a certain
- 8:50vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit
- 8:56at the four corners, and it let down to the earth, 12 wherein
- 9:01we're all manner of four footed beasts of the earth, and wild
- 9:05beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. 13 And there
- 9:11came a voice to him. Rise, Peter, kill and eat.
- 9:19So we know that inside of this sheet would have been a lot of
- 9:24animals that were considered unclean to the Jews.
- 9:30And God here is telling Peter to rise, kill and eat.
- 9:37And we need to know the words of Jesus Christ when he says it's
- 9:40not what goes in the body that defiles the body, but it's what
- 9:43comes out of the body. And of course, out of the
- 9:47wellspring of the heart comes our deep seated thoughts of man.
- 9:59And we see that bubbling up and whatever bubbles up is what
- 10:03you've got stored down in there, whether it's toxic waste and
- 10:07sludge or whether it is the living water of life.
- 10:11And that is what Jesus wanted us to know, and he's solidifying it
- 10:16here with Peter. And this is how we as Christians
- 10:23do not think that it's wrong to eat pork.
- 10:26And a lot of that was for them at the time because of the
- 10:30diseases that those animals carried.
- 10:33And that we have been able through modern technology, we've
- 10:38been able to overcome a lot of the parasites and a lot of the
- 10:47diseases that those animals carried at the time.
- 10:51So it was protection unto the Jews at the time.
- 10:55And God here is releasing us from so many of the strict
- 11:03Jewish dietary laws that they carried and that so many devout
- 11:09Jews even today try to uphold. And you're going to see here
- 11:14that God has a better way and he speaks a better word, and
- 11:18everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial. 14
- 11:30Peter said, No, not so, Lord, for I have never eaten anything
- 11:35that is common or unclean. So here he is arguing with Jesus
- 11:40again. We can see that this is one of
- 11:43Peter's knacks, that he has a knack to tell the Lord no.
- 11:49When the Lord wants to wash his feet, he says, You will never
- 11:52wash my feet. This is the boldness of Peter,
- 11:57and he just says what he's thinking, and we can appreciate
- 12:00it. 15 The voice spoke unto him again the second time.
- 12:08What God has cleansed don't call common. 16 This was done three
- 12:16times, and then the vessel was received up again into heaven.
- 12:22Anytime you see something in Scripture mentioned three times,
- 12:26it is completeness. God the Father, the Son, and the
- 12:30Holy Ghost. 3 and 1 And you can see that God showed him the
- 12:36completeness of it, because it was going to lead you and me
- 12:41into the fold. And he says that I have sheep
- 12:46that are not yet of this fold that are going to come in.
- 12:50And he has referenced many times Jesus referenced the Gentiles.
- 12:56He says that when he was lifted up that he was going to draw all
- 12:59men unto himself. And for God so loved the world
- 13:05that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever will believe
- 13:09in him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
- 13:12You can see the plan of God through all of scripture in the
- 13:17Old Testament and the New. You can see that it was His plan
- 13:21for every tribe, nation, tongue to come into heaven.
- 13:28He's going to have a representative from all of them
- 13:32there friends, and it is going to be glorious. 17 Now while
- 13:42Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen
- 13:46should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius
- 13:51had made inquiry for Simon's house and stood before the gate.
- 13:56Just imagine these men standing outside the gate, calling into
- 13:59the house. Hey, is there a guy named Simon
- 14:06who lives here? Is this Simon Tanner's house?
- 14:09Is there a Peter here? 18 And called and asked whether
- 14:17Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there. 19 And while
- 14:23Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold,
- 14:27three men seek you. 20 Arise therefore, and get you down, and
- 14:35go with them, doubting nothing, for I have sent them.
- 14:39So here Peter has already received this vision, Cornelius
- 14:43has received this vision and the two working together and you can
- 14:47see the congruency of the Spirit of God and he's causing these
- 14:54men to come together. And they had such a supernatural
- 14:58divine encounter that was undeniable.
- 15:02And we can see that Peter is called to rise.
- 15:05We are see that Cornelius is called to send.
- 15:09We can see that God is in the action, friends.
- 15:12He's not just seated on the sidelines on the blessed
- 15:15assurance. Let's get in the action and
- 15:17charge the hill. Put on the full armor of God,
- 15:20friends, and let's withstand the fiery darts of the enemy. 21
- 15:29Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from
- 15:32Cornelius, and said, Behold, I am he whom you seek, What is the
- 15:36cause wherefore you've come? 22 And they said, Cornelius the
- 15:42centurion, a just man, and one that fears God, and of good
- 15:46report among all the nations of the Jews, was warned from God by
- 15:51a holy Angel to send for you into his house and to hear words
- 15:56of you. So these men made it plain.
- 16:01They did not stutter or stammer. They said that Cornelius had
- 16:05received a vision and sent them there, and they were to listen
- 16:09to whatever Peter had to say. We could see that Peter's on the
- 16:13rooftop. He's received this divine
- 16:15revelation from the Lord Jesus Christ about clean and unclean,
- 16:19and don't call anything that God has made unclean.
- 16:23And you can see here that it's all working together. 23 then
- 16:30called he them in and lodged them.
- 16:34And on the Morrow Peter went away with them, and certain
- 16:37brothers from Joppa accompanied him.
- 16:40So you can see here that Peter is being broke down from all of
- 16:45his Jewish traditions and all of the laws of the Jews as he
- 16:50welcomes in these Gentiles into the house.
- 16:54And not only does he just give them a place to stay, but he
- 17:00entertains them. 24 And the Morrow after they entered into
- 17:12Caesarea, and Cornelius waited for them, and had called
- 17:17together his kinsmen and near friends.
- 17:20Look at the faith of this centurion Cornelius.
- 17:25Look at how he's so excited. He's called everybody together
- 17:29that he knows. 25 And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met
- 17:34him, fell down at his feet, and worshipped him. 26 But Peter
- 17:40took him up, saying, Stand up. I myself also am a man.
- 17:47So you can see here that Peter had the right reaction.
- 17:50He would not receive worship. If you as a man receive worship,
- 17:55you will be eaten up with maggots.
- 17:59If you as a man try to accept any amount of worship from other
- 18:08men, it will be your demise. Only the Lord Jesus Christ
- 18:13accepted the worship from men, rightfully so.
- 18:17We as just human beings should never accept worship from
- 18:25anyone. It is only the Lord Jesus Christ
- 18:29who deserves worship. Give him his due praise and
- 18:33honor and glory. 27 And as he talked with him, he went in and
- 18:45found many that were come together.
- 18:47So here not only had Peter invited the Gentiles into his
- 18:52abode, but here he goes into the House of a Gentile,
- 18:57systematically, methodically. God is breaking down all of
- 19:02Peter's presuppositions of how God works.
- 19:06And we cannot put God in a box. He is the great I am.
- 19:10God is in heaven, and does whatever he pleases. 28 And he
- 19:17said unto them, You know how that it is an unlawful thing for
- 19:22a man that is a Jew to keep company or come into another of
- 19:28another nation? But God has showed me that I
- 19:32should not call any man common or unclean.
- 19:35Imagine that this twofold vision where Peter has received all of
- 19:42these animals and God is saying get up and kill and eat and then
- 19:46it's relegated to the Gentiles who came and he's saying that he
- 19:51should not call these Gentiles unclean.
- 19:55What a multi faceted amazing God that we serve, that it can be
- 20:00and and or 29 Therefore I came unto you without gainsaying as
- 20:10soon as I was sent for. I ask therefore, for what
- 20:15intent? Have you sent for me?
- 20:19So he's saying, OK, God told me to obey and here I am.
- 20:25What is this whole thing about? 30, Cornelius said.
- 20:30Four days ago I was fasting until this hour, and at the 9th
- 20:36hour I prayed in my house and behold, a man stood before me in
- 20:40bright clothing. So here we can see example after
- 20:45example after example. You saw it on the road to
- 20:48Damascus where Paul fasted for three days.
- 20:52You saw it where Peter was hungry on the rooftop and fell
- 20:56into a trance. And you can see here that
- 20:58Cornelius mentions fasting in Jesus Christ.
- 21:02Our Lord said some things only go out by prayer and fasting.
- 21:08He did not say if you fast, He said when you fast and if we
- 21:14want to last, we must fast friends.
- 21:18And this is where God is pleased to welcome us into deeper
- 21:22revelations of Himself is whenever we deny the body and we
- 21:26increase our spiritual hunger. So he's saying that he beheld a
- 21:38man who stood before him in bright clothing. 31 and said,
- 21:42Cornelius, your prayer is heard, and your alms are in remembrance
- 21:48in the sight of God. So God hears our prayers, and he
- 21:52sees whenever we are sacrificing.
- 21:55And we do not give to church, we do not give to missionaries and
- 22:00ministries. We give to God.
- 22:03We store for ourselves treasures in heaven.
- 22:06We cannot take any of it with us, but we can send it ahead,
- 22:11Friends. And this is a biblical
- 22:13principle, you see, model time and time and time again.
- 22:18This is truth, Friends. 32 Send therefore to Joppa, and call
- 22:27here Simon, whose surname is Peter.
- 22:30He is lodged in the House of 1 Simon of Tanner by the seaside,
- 22:34who when he comes, shall speak unto you. 33 Immediately,
- 22:39therefore, I sent to you, and you have well done that you have
- 22:44come Now. Therefore are we all here
- 22:47present before God to hear all things that are commanded you of
- 22:53God. So this is so many different
- 22:59pieces of the puzzle all coming together to paint a masterpiece,
- 23:04and Cornelius is saying, OK, we are here, we are all gathered
- 23:09together. What is it that God wants to
- 23:12speak through you? 34 Then Peter opened his mouth,
- 23:19and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of
- 23:26persons. 35 But in every nation he that fears him and works
- 23:33righteousness is accepted with him. 36 The word which God sent
- 23:40unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ,
- 23:45He is Lord of all. 37 That word I say, you know, which was
- 23:51published throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee, after
- 23:55the baptism which John preached. 38 How God anointed Jesus of
- 24:01Nazareth with the Holy Ghost, and with power, who went about
- 24:07doing good in healing all that were oppressed of the devil.
- 24:11For God was with him. 39 And we are witnesses of all things
- 24:18which he did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, who
- 24:23they slew and hung on a tree. 40 Him God raised up on the third
- 24:30day, and showed him openly, 41 not to all the people, but unto
- 24:36witnesses chosen before of God, even to us who did eat and drink
- 24:42with him after he rose from the dead. 42 And he commanded us to
- 24:48preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was
- 24:55ordained of God to be the judge of quick and dead. 43 To him
- 25:01give all the prophets witness that through his name, whosoever
- 25:06believes in Him shall receive remission of sins.
- 25:13So Peter just delivered a powerful sermon unto the
- 25:16Gentiles and he is showing them that they must place their faith
- 25:21in the Lord Jesus Christ to authentically have A to have a
- 25:28relationship with God Almighty. And before this they would have
- 25:34started to adopt all of the Jewish practices.
- 25:37But God is calling them out to a next level, to a higher level of
- 25:43understanding of the revelation of Jesus Christ.
- 25:46And Peter is walking them systematically through Jesus's
- 25:51ministry and showing them their need to place their faith in the
- 25:56Lord Jesus Christ, and that Jesus is the way, the truth, and
- 26:00the life, and that no one comes unto the Father except through
- 26:04him. 44 While Peter yet spoke these words, the Holy Ghost fell
- 26:12on all them which heard the word.
- 26:14So we can see that the Holy Ghost fell upon them, and he was
- 26:20increasingly abundant in their midst. 45 And they of the
- 26:27circumcision which believed were astonished as many as came with
- 26:33Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the
- 26:38gift of the Holy Ghost. So we can see that they were
- 26:41partakers of the goodness of God, and they had seen the Holy
- 26:46Ghost in their midst. 46 For they heard them speak with
- 26:51tongues and magnify God. Then answered Peter. 47 Can any
- 26:59man forbid water that these should not be baptized, which
- 27:03has received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
- 27:0748 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the
- 27:11Lord, then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
- 27:18What an amazing scene. We can see all playing out how
- 27:24the Holy Ghost has come upon them and then has come into them
- 27:30as they give their life to the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 27:34And you can see here that this manifestation of gifts in their
- 27:38midst, and you can see that they are speaking in tongues.
- 27:42And perhaps this Italian cohort was hearing the language of
- 27:46their native tongue. Perhaps they were speaking in
- 27:49the angelic friends. And we can see it all played out
- 27:53here. And we know that they had asked
- 27:57Peter to stay with them. When the Holy Ghost comes, it is
- 28:02nothing but a Holy Ghost party and we are undone.
- 28:07And we could see that Peter's denial of how he thought the
- 28:16laws of the Jews in the early church should go, as he did away
- 28:21with his own understanding. God gave him deeper revelation
- 28:25of what his purpose and plans for the ages and for all
- 28:29nations, for all generations to be blessed.
- 28:33And we can look back at this point as God is beckoning us as
- 28:39the wild branches to come and to be grafted in.
- 28:45Praise God, Hallelujah. I hope that you've been blessed
- 28:47by this amazing chapter. I know I sure have.
- 28:57I'm praying for you. I love you.
- 29:05We'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 29:07God bless you.
