- 0:00Speaker 1: But, like, that is a place where they're going to
- 0:04Speaker 1: feel good coming into this matchup anyways because of all
- 0:07Speaker 1: the reasons you just explained. And sort of it feels
- 0:10Speaker 1: like they've kind of built this roster back up a
- 0:13Speaker 1: little bit from 22 and 23, and now we're here.
- 0:18Speaker 1: And I just am very curious, how does Texas respond
- 0:23Speaker 1: from a play-calling standpoint if Tennessee does get an early
- 0:27Speaker 1: lead in this game? does Texas stay committed to the run?
- 0:30Speaker 1: Cause they need to. And I think if you look
- 0:32Speaker 1: at this Tennessee defense to this point in the year,
- 0:37Speaker 1: their rush success rate allowed has not been great. They're, they're,
- 0:41Speaker 1: they're allowing, you know, 50% of plays against the run
- 0:45Speaker 1: to stay on schedule or, or ahead of schedule.
- 0:48Speaker 2: And that's not what you want in this game.
- 0:52Speaker 1: I think, you know, if you're Texas is like, you
- 0:54Speaker 1: do not want to get over here and let's let arch, uh,
- 0:58Speaker 1: throw the ball 40 times.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Like he did at Florida last year.
- 1:02Speaker 1: I do think that that might be where this kind
- 1:04Speaker 1: of breaks down in favor of Texas. Texas' defense has
- 1:08Speaker 1: been pretty balanced in terms of allowing things.
- 1:14Speaker 2: They've been good against the run and the pass for
- 1:16Speaker 2: the most part.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I just think that this game will probably come down
- 1:23Speaker 1: to does Tennessee have the ability to to hit a
- 1:28Speaker 1: couple of explosive plays and flip the field.
- 1:30Speaker 2: If they're not going to get.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Turnovers or get the ball in some way off of
- 1:35Speaker 1: special teams in Texas' side of the field, is there
- 1:40Speaker 1: a world where Brandon can hit two of these shots,
- 1:45Speaker 1: one in each half? Can he hit Mike Matthews and
- 1:49Speaker 1: turn this thing around?
- 1:51Speaker 2: And I think it's possible.
- 1:52Speaker 1: He can certainly make those throws. but how, how Hypo
- 1:56Speaker 1: manages all this with Deshaun Bishop. And the other thing
- 1:59Speaker 1: about this game too, is both these teams have played
- 2:02Speaker 1: at less than 25 seconds or right at 25 seconds
- 2:06Speaker 1: per play so far this year. So like this is
- 2:09Speaker 1: going to be a lot of possessions for a college
- 2:12Speaker 1: football game in the year 2026 with the clock rules
- 2:15Speaker 1: and the first downs that we have now. And I'm very,
- 2:19Speaker 1: very curious what that looks like. Cause again, Tennessee's also
- 2:24Speaker 1: had the ability to have this explosive rush, right? Like
- 2:28Speaker 1: they've been really good on the ground. And I know
- 2:31Speaker 1: that the ground keeps the clock running, but with the
- 2:35Speaker 1: pace they play at, I saw this against Georgia last year.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Like if they can script this game out well and
- 2:41Speaker 1: use their run game the way that they want to
- 2:43Speaker 1: against Texas front, then you're going to get to the
- 2:45Speaker 1: fourth quarter and Texas is going to be tired.
- 2:48Speaker 2: And so is Tennessee.
- 2:49Speaker 1: And, Who kind of manages their drives early, not just
- 2:52Speaker 1: to score points, but to rack up some of those
- 2:55Speaker 1: body blows.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Is going to be something to monitor as this game
- 2:58Speaker 2: goes on.
- 2:59Speaker 3: Derek Owings. I don't know how many times we're going
- 3:02Speaker 3: to talk about a strength and conditioning coach, but Derek
- 3:04Speaker 3: Owings took over strength and conditioning there from Indiana. And
- 3:07Speaker 3: if it is a fourth quarter game, you know, obviously
- 3:09Speaker 3: he has not been there for a super extended period
- 3:12Speaker 3: of time. But how does that maybe factor in if
- 3:14Speaker 3: some of those body blows start to hit? Um, three
- 3:17Speaker 3: and a half points for, I'm sorry, five and a
- 3:19Speaker 3: half points for Texas in this. I think that's too many.
- 3:21Speaker 3: I think Tennessee covers this spread. And, uh, I don't
- 3:26Speaker 3: know if I've told you this or not, but I'm
- 3:27Speaker 3: going to the game in Knoxville. I'm not putting on,
- 3:29Speaker 3: I'm not putting on either shade of orange, uh, because
- 3:32Speaker 3: I am, uh, vehemently opposed to that. But, uh, I
- 3:35Speaker 3: will be at this game. I don't know if I'm
- 3:37Speaker 3: just trying to will it to, to happen or not,
- 3:39Speaker 3: but I will take the volunteers with the upset. I'm
- 3:41Speaker 3: tired of going chalk every single week. I think the
- 3:43Speaker 3: conditions are there and prime for an upset. I think
- 3:46Speaker 3: Texas is the better team. I think Tennessee just needs
- 3:49Speaker 3: to be the better team for like 35 minutes on
- 3:51Speaker 3: a Saturday. And I think they find a way to
- 3:53Speaker 3: get it done. So give me the Vols on the
- 3:55Speaker 3: money line. What you got?
- 3:57Speaker 1: I am very much in the same boat of thinking
- 4:02Speaker 1: that you are. I do like Tennessee to cover the spread.
- 4:06Speaker 1: I think this game comes down to a field goal,
- 4:10Speaker 1: special teams, something like that. And in that scenario, I
- 4:20Speaker 1: really want to pick Texas in this spot.
- 4:22Speaker 2: I want to pick Arsh. I want to pick the experience.
- 4:26Speaker 2: But I don't know, man.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Maybe there's something a little cosmic here. We've had a
- 4:30Speaker 1: lot of really good analytical analysis.
- 4:32Speaker 2: In this preview. I'm going to go off the rails here.
- 4:35Speaker 2: But I don't know.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Maybe there's a little cosmic Manning thing at play here.
- 4:41Speaker 1: But I do just have a feeling about Tennessee in
- 4:45Speaker 1: this football game.
- 4:46Speaker 2: That I can't shake.
- 4:48Speaker 1: And I keep trying to shake it with Faison Brandon's
- 4:52Speaker 1: inexperience and Tennessee's rush success rate allowed. So I'm going
- 4:57Speaker 1: to follow the formula and the recipe and say, like,
- 5:01Speaker 1: Texas wins this game by three and it turns into
- 5:05Speaker 1: kind of a shootout and this total goes over of 57.
- 5:10Speaker 2: And that's what I'm going to say. But I do
- 5:12Speaker 2: think that.
- 5:13Speaker 1: We're one– one arch decision or one shanked pun or
- 5:20Speaker 1: one thing away from this fall in Tennessee's way.
- 5:23Speaker 2: So I very much think that upset conditions are ripe
- 5:27Speaker 2: on Saturday.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree with you. This was a really good
- 5:31Speaker 3: analytical breakdown. My head says Texas, but I'm going 100%
- 5:36Speaker 3: vibes play here. My head's wrong a lot, so maybe
- 5:40Speaker 3: that's a good way to look at things. Hey, don't
- 5:43Speaker 3: agree that hard.
- 5:45Speaker 2: But I'm talking about me personally. I was thinking about
- 5:48Speaker 2: my wife when you said that.
- 5:51Speaker 3: But yeah, complete vibes play. Shout out Dolly Barton. So
- 5:55Speaker 3: I'll get right back to chatting with Graham. But first,
- 5:57Speaker 3: I want to tell you about our friends over at PrizePix.
- 5:59Speaker 3: All new users who play a $ 5 lineup there and
- 6:01Speaker 3: win get $ 150 in lineups instantly if they use code HMA.
- 6:06Speaker 3: I am taking the more on Jaden Ball's rushing touchdowns,
- 6:09Speaker 3: and I'm taking the more on Trinidad Chambliss' passing touchdowns.
- 6:12Speaker 3: They're both 1.5. I feel really good about Trinidad. I
- 6:15Speaker 3: know it'll be work for Jaden to get two on
- 6:17Speaker 3: the ground, but I think he gets it done. Go
- 6:19Speaker 3: set a lineup just like that. Appreciate our friends over
- 6:22Speaker 3: at PrizePix. Again, use the code HMA. Now back to
- 6:25Speaker 3: the clip. Florida and Ole Miss in the swamp. Florida
- 6:30Speaker 3: coming off a big win at Auburn. Ole Miss coming
- 6:33Speaker 3: off a huge win against Lane. I think there's opportunity
- 6:36Speaker 3: for both of these teams to have a little bit
- 6:38Speaker 3: of an emotional letdown after huge wins last week. I
- 6:41Speaker 3: think that possibility exists much more for Ole Miss than
- 6:45Speaker 3: it does for Florida. But I do think it exists
- 6:47Speaker 3: on both sides. You can see how much that win
- 6:49Speaker 3: really meant to the program, how much it meant to
- 6:50Speaker 3: John Summerall, how much it meant to Aaron Filo, who
- 6:52Speaker 3: I thought played really, really well in that game. Obviously,
- 6:55Speaker 3: Jaden Ball is a freak. And then Trinidad Chambliss may
- 6:58Speaker 3: be the best player in college football right now. So
- 7:00Speaker 3: it is just as good as that Tennessee-Texas matchup is,
- 7:04Speaker 3: this one's really good too. Florida's not the 21st best
- 7:06Speaker 3: team in the country. I think they've proven that they're
- 7:08Speaker 3: better than that through their first three games. I don't
- 7:12Speaker 3: think Ole Miss is the fourth best team. Resume-wise, they
- 7:14Speaker 3: should probably be one or two. This is a great matchup, too,
- 7:17Speaker 3: just like we've got in the noon game. The 3.30
- 7:20Speaker 3: one's really good. This is presented by PrizePix. What's your
- 7:23Speaker 3: big picture thought here for Florida Ole Miss?
- 7:27Speaker 1: This line really threw me for a loop when it
- 7:30Speaker 1: came out on Sunday. I mean, I just was like,
- 7:34Speaker 1: I wasn't expecting Florida to be an eight-point dog at home.
- 7:39Speaker 2: I wasn't expecting them to be a big underdog.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Or anything like that, but I was certainly not expecting
- 7:45Speaker 1: them to be favored by over.
- 7:46Speaker 2: A field goal at this point. I think sitting at
- 7:48Speaker 2: three and a half right now.
- 7:50Speaker 1: And Hey, I I've been on record all off season
- 7:53Speaker 1: is thinking summer all good hire, especially cause he went
- 7:57Speaker 1: and got Buster Faulkner and I'm a big believer in
- 8:00Speaker 1: Buster Faulkner. I think letting him handpick his quarterback and
- 8:04Speaker 1: Aaron Philo was a good decision.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Like I'm all for it. I'm on board with it, but.
- 8:11Speaker 1: I am very curious, especially after Auburn was able to
- 8:17Speaker 1: have a lot of offensive success against Florida when Baylor
- 8:22Speaker 1: was able to really kind of stymie Auburn a good
- 8:25Speaker 1: bit in that game, how Florida is favored by over
- 8:30Speaker 1: a field goal in this game with what we know
- 8:32Speaker 1: about Trinidad Chambliss and his ability to just make things
- 8:37Speaker 1: happen offensively.
- 8:40Speaker 3: I wonder a little bit about each team's ability to
- 8:45Speaker 3: exploit what the other one struggles with. I just got
- 8:49Speaker 3: off a show and talked about this a little bit,
- 8:50Speaker 3: so I want to get your take. I won't rehearse
- 8:52Speaker 3: my whole take again, but Ole Miss gives up a
- 8:56Speaker 3: lot of broken tackles, and having Jaden Ball in the
- 8:59Speaker 3: backfield on the other side should scare the crap out
- 9:01Speaker 3: of them. I think Florida can be exploited in certain
- 9:03Speaker 3: places defensively if pressure doesn't get home, and having Trinidad
- 9:07Speaker 3: on the other side Should scare the crap out of them.
- 9:09Speaker 3: So it's good on good, I think, or good on
- 9:12Speaker 3: maybe potential weaknesses, maybe the better way to say it.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Both these offenses, I mean, I like the over here, too,
- 9:17Speaker 3: just for what it's worth. Now Vegas knows that, and
- 9:20Speaker 3: they've jacked it way up. But both of these offenses
- 9:23Speaker 3: could have absolute field days. Florida's offense really did a
- 9:28Speaker 3: good job against Auburn for large portions of that game.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Florida's defense did a good job against Auburn's offense. I
- 9:35Speaker 3: think Ole Miss' defense did a good job against LSU's
- 9:38Speaker 3: for large portions of the game. Whichever defense shows up,
- 9:41Speaker 3: because I have no doubts that Jaden Ball is going
- 9:43Speaker 3: to do his thing. I have no doubts that Vernell
- 9:45Speaker 3: Brown and really even Aaron Filo and this offense are
- 9:48Speaker 3: going to do their thing. And then the same thing
- 9:49Speaker 3: on Ole Miss' side. They might be one-dimensional if Lacey
- 9:52Speaker 3: doesn't play, but that's a pretty good dimension to have
- 9:55Speaker 3: is Trinidad calling the shots. Whichever defense can get a
- 9:59Speaker 3: few more stops, a stop or two more, is probably
- 10:02Speaker 3: the one that I would ride with in this game.
- 10:05Speaker 3: I think that's an interesting dynamic, is just two powerhouse-type
- 10:09Speaker 3: offenses are going to be really fun. The Golding versus
- 10:12Speaker 3: Faulkner matchup is a lot of fun. This game has
- 10:16Speaker 3: so much in it that I'm going to be sprinting
- 10:19Speaker 3: out of Neyland stadium to try and get to the
- 10:21Speaker 3: iPad and watch this while I sit in traffic in Knoxville.
- 10:26Speaker 2: No, for sure.
- 10:28Speaker 1: And I look at, so I look at the Ole
- 10:32Speaker 1: Miss for the Ole Miss offense versus Florida's defense.
- 10:36Speaker 2: And I mean, Florida's defense, like if you look.
- 10:39Speaker 1: At some of the radar charts and just they're, They're ugly, right?
- 10:45Speaker 1: Like they do not cover a big spread on the
- 10:47Speaker 1: radar chart. They really struggle with that. Like they give
- 10:51Speaker 1: up a lot of short third down distances. They give
- 10:54Speaker 1: up a really high success rate on third downs. I mean,
- 10:58Speaker 1: they're allowing 58.1% third and fourth down success rate.
- 11:03Speaker 2: That's 125th nationally.
- 11:05Speaker 1: 5.8 yards is the average third down distance against them.
- 11:08Speaker 2: That's 122nd.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Their EPA per rush allowed is 126th. I mean, like
- 11:14Speaker 1: they have really not been good. And the Florida offense
- 11:19Speaker 1: is the exact opposite of that. But when you talk
- 11:22Speaker 1: about that matchup, like whose defense has a better shot
- 11:25Speaker 1: of getting stops, I really feel like the answer is
- 11:28Speaker 1: the Ole Miss defense against the Florida offense. Like I
- 11:31Speaker 1: really think what we saw from Will Echols against LSU
- 11:34Speaker 1: on Saturday night. Like Ole Miss has some guys in
- 11:40Speaker 1: their back end. Like, Joan El Aguero was a five-star recruit,
- 11:44Speaker 1: and he's a tweener, didn't quite work out at Georgia, like,
- 11:49Speaker 1: not quite a safety, not quite a linebacker-type player. But
- 11:52Speaker 1: he's the type of guy that can close some space
- 11:55Speaker 1: out and, like, had a pick against Tennessee last year
- 11:58Speaker 1: in Knoxville that was big on a deep ball. Like,
- 12:00Speaker 1: there's players like that on this Ole Miss defense that
- 12:03Speaker 1: I know about at this point on all three levels.
- 12:07Speaker 1: I'm not sure who those guys are yet. on the
- 12:11Speaker 1: Florida defense. Doesn't mean they're not there, but I don't
- 12:14Speaker 1: know who they are yet. And that kind of inclines
- 12:17Speaker 1: me to, to again, come back to being very confused
- 12:20Speaker 1: about this number.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Yeah. Are, is there a way for either you talk
- 12:26Speaker 3: about Ole Miss, you know, struggling with broken tackles and
- 12:29Speaker 3: talk about where Florida is at defensively too. Is there
- 12:32Speaker 3: any way to slow down a Jaden Baugh or a
- 12:34Speaker 3: Trinidad Chambliss for either team? Or is it like you
- 12:36Speaker 3: may just let them live with what they do and
- 12:38Speaker 3: try and shut down everybody else type of thing? Or
- 12:40Speaker 3: what is the, what is the method of attack there?
- 12:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:44Speaker 1: I mean, you're not going to like, I don't think
- 12:47Speaker 1: Ole Miss is going to slow Jaden Baugh in the
- 12:52Speaker 1: sense of shutting him down because he's, he's too good
- 12:55Speaker 1: for that. But I do think there's, there's logic in
- 13:01Speaker 1: if you're, Florida saying, okay, I'm going to, I'm going
- 13:05Speaker 1: to make Trinidad beat me.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Like I'm not going to, I'm not going to live
- 13:10Speaker 1: sort of in no man's land. And on the same,
- 13:13Speaker 1: on the other side of the ball, I think there's
- 13:15Speaker 1: logic in saying like, I want to make Aaron Philo
- 13:17Speaker 1: beat me. Right. Like I, I'm not going to try
- 13:20Speaker 1: and load up and put eight men in the box
- 13:24Speaker 1: all day against Jaden ball and let Aaron Philo get
- 13:28Speaker 1: man coverage all over the place with this set of receivers.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Like that's not the recipe if you're Ole Miss in
- 13:34Speaker 2: my opinion.
- 13:35Speaker 1: I think you've got to vary your defensive looks and
- 13:39Speaker 1: you've got to be flexible to what's happening in front
- 13:41Speaker 1: of you and adjust in real time truthfully of sort of,
- 13:45Speaker 1: you know, admitting maybe, hey, like this is the hot guy.
- 13:50Speaker 2: And we need to shade things this way.
- 13:51Speaker 1: But I think you can really get yourself in trouble
- 13:56Speaker 1: sometimes when you try to treat everyone like an equal
- 14:00Speaker 1: threat on an offense and you end up just, just
- 14:03Speaker 1: kind of running out of ways to, to.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Spread your men around.
- 14:07Speaker 1: I don't know that either of these teams is going
- 14:10Speaker 1: to be able to like take one thing away from
- 14:15Speaker 1: the other.
- 14:15Speaker 2: I think at the end of the day, the question
- 14:18Speaker 2: is more just functionally, how do I get stops? Right.
- 14:22Speaker 2: And whatever that scouting is, maybe it's, Hey, like.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Philo, Philo's, Numbers drop when he's in the red zone.
- 14:30Speaker 2: That's just an example.
- 14:32Speaker 1: But that needs to be the thought train, I think,
- 14:36Speaker 1: from these defensive staffs is, situationally, where do I have
- 14:40Speaker 1: an advantage? And once I get into that situation, how
- 14:44Speaker 1: do I maximize that advantage?
- 14:45Speaker 2: Because you don't have an advantage in open grass between
- 14:48Speaker 2: the 20s. You just don't. And you need to find ways.
- 14:51Speaker 1: I think field goals versus touchdowns is going to be
- 14:55Speaker 1: a huge plot in this game.
- 14:59Speaker 3: Advantage coaching-wise, when you look at Golding and Faulkner, that's
- 15:05Speaker 3: a fun one. We got Golding and Weiss last week.
- 15:08Speaker 3: This is another fun one. It's very different, but it's fun.
- 15:11Speaker 1: I think that there's an advantage when it comes to
- 15:14Speaker 1: Pete Golding as a head coach versus John Summerall as
- 15:17Speaker 1: a head coach in terms of experience, in terms of
- 15:22Speaker 1: playing in big games. But I would give Buster Faulkner
- 15:27Speaker 1: an advantage over P. Golding when it comes to offensive
- 15:30Speaker 1: scheme versus defensive scheme.
- 15:36Speaker 2: For sure.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Buster has been around this league. He was at Georgia
- 15:42Speaker 1: when Golding was at Alabama. He was at Georgia with
- 15:45Speaker 1: Todd Mocken. He's seen a lot. He's seen a lot
- 15:51Speaker 1: in the SEC and really adjacent. I know he was
- 15:55Speaker 1: at Georgia Tech, but He was an hour down the
- 15:58Speaker 1: road from Athens and sort of in the heart of
- 16:02Speaker 1: the SEC while being at Georgia Tech. And I think
- 16:04Speaker 1: he's very well connected to this league and knows the
- 16:09Speaker 1: ins and outs of it.
- 16:12Speaker 3: The spread did surprise me. I think it opened up
- 16:16Speaker 3: closer to a point and a half and then has
- 16:17Speaker 3: moved because of the Lacey uncertainty, the best I can tell.
- 16:22Speaker 3: So three and a half now. I think this game
- 16:26Speaker 3: truly could go either way. I like the points when
- 16:31Speaker 3: you've got Trinidad Chambliss. I think this is an incredibly
- 16:34Speaker 3: close game. I love that hook. And if Vegas is
- 16:36Speaker 3: setting a trap for me, then I am jumping into
- 16:39Speaker 3: it headfirst. I love the value in getting Trinidad Chambliss
- 16:43Speaker 3: plus money against a team that, yes, just beat Auburn.
- 16:46Speaker 3: And I'm really high on Florida. I think they're a
- 16:48Speaker 3: top 15-ish team in this country as far as resume-wise,
- 16:52Speaker 3: like what they've shown so far. I think they're ranked
- 16:54Speaker 3: too low right now in the AP poll. So I
- 16:56Speaker 3: am high on Florida. I really like Trinidad Chambliss with
- 17:01Speaker 3: plus money. I also really, I think they've got the
- 17:05Speaker 3: best two wins in the country. I don't even know
- 17:07Speaker 3: how you would debate that. Beating Louisville, who knocked off
- 17:09Speaker 3: SMU last week, we talked about that game, and then
- 17:11Speaker 3: beating LSU the way that they did. I think they
- 17:14Speaker 3: go get another ranked win this weekend. I think there's
- 17:16Speaker 3: good value in the plus money on the money line
- 17:19Speaker 3: and to take the three and a half points. So
- 17:22Speaker 3: I'll probably take both. to cover myself if they don't
- 17:25Speaker 3: get the win, but I think this is an incredibly
- 17:27Speaker 3: close game. Would not surprise me at all if Florida won,
- 17:30Speaker 3: but I'm going to take Ole Miss here. Ole Miss
- 17:32Speaker 3: has kind of shown that they can be one-dimensional if needed.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Lacey goes out and Trinidad just puts him on his back. Now,
- 17:38Speaker 3: I don't think that works for 12 weeks, but I
- 17:40Speaker 3: think it can work one more time. The Swamp is
- 17:42Speaker 3: an insane place to play, and it changes games just
- 17:46Speaker 3: like Neyland does. We talked about that. We saw what
- 17:49Speaker 3: happened with Texas. We saw what happened with a Really
- 17:51Speaker 3: good Ole Miss team that came in here in 2016.
- 17:53Speaker 3: We saw what happened with Auburn in 2019 when they
- 17:56Speaker 3: were top five. This happens often. But all that said,
- 17:59Speaker 3: I'm going to ride with Ole Miss here.
- 18:02Speaker 2: See, what I read out of this spread, I.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Do think that Vegas is telling you that they like
- 18:12Speaker 1: Florida more than some people may have expected coming into
- 18:16Speaker 1: the season. But I also think that they're telling you
- 18:20Speaker 1: they didn't really buy the hype on LSU. Didn't really
- 18:25Speaker 1: buy the hype on, on, on Ole Miss after that win. Like,
- 18:29Speaker 1: I think they're telling you that they think Ole Miss
- 18:31Speaker 1: is a really good team, but maybe not an elite
- 18:34Speaker 1: team on the like national title tier. And logically that
- 18:41Speaker 1: makes sense to me just in terms of how their
- 18:45Speaker 1: roster is constructed.
- 18:46Speaker 2: And all of those things.
- 18:48Speaker 1: I don't know that I'd, ever drank the Kool-Aid on LSU,
- 18:53Speaker 1: even after they beat Clemson.
- 18:55Speaker 2: But I do struggle.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Like you're telling me we're already here with Aaron Philo
- 19:04Speaker 1: after just a couple starts. Like we're already in the
- 19:09Speaker 1: spot of, of Aaron Philo against Trinidad Chambliss and Philo is,
- 19:15Speaker 1: is the guy, right? Like he's, he's the favorite in
- 19:17Speaker 1: that matchup.
- 19:18Speaker 2: I struggle with it.
- 19:19Speaker 1: I think Florida is more complete. Offensively, Florida is more
- 19:22Speaker 1: complete with Jaden Ball. I'm just not picking against... I
- 19:26Speaker 1: made a personal vow to not pick against Trinidad Chambliss
- 19:32Speaker 1: in any situation, especially one that I think could be
- 19:37Speaker 1: a close game late in the fourth quarter until he
- 19:40Speaker 1: gives me a reason to readdress that. And so on
- 19:46Speaker 1: general principle, I am taking that three and a half
- 19:50Speaker 1: from Ole Miss and I'm rushing to the bank with it.
- 19:52Speaker 1: And I'm going to take Ole Miss outright to win
- 19:54Speaker 1: this game. But I do think there's a world where
- 19:59Speaker 1: we wake up on Sunday and we're talking about Florida
- 20:04Speaker 1: a little bit differently. Because I do think the emotional–
- 20:08Speaker 1: hangover from that LSU game could be very real. I
- 20:12Speaker 1: also think, though, that Pete Golding has an advantage in
- 20:16Speaker 1: that he was around Ole Miss in 2024 when they
- 20:19Speaker 1: won the big game against Georgia and then went to
- 20:21Speaker 1: Florida and flushed their playoff hopes.
- 20:24Speaker 2: And I think that he can use that maybe to
- 20:26Speaker 2: his favor.
- 20:27Speaker 1: I know Trinidad wasn't there, but there's guys that are
- 20:30Speaker 1: left over from that roster and that can kind of
- 20:32Speaker 1: help him refocus his team. So I think Ole Miss,
- 20:36Speaker 1: but close, close.
- 20:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's a good point. And then also
- 20:41Speaker 3: last year, with all the distraction and all the emotion
- 20:43Speaker 3: that went into last year, I don't think they lost
- 20:47Speaker 3: to Miami after beating Georgia because of an emotional hangover.
- 20:49Speaker 3: I think Miami was just a little bit better. They
- 20:52Speaker 3: did a good job navigating the lane situation. We talked
- 20:56Speaker 3: about this last week. I don't so much buy into
- 20:58Speaker 3: the whole, oh, off-field stuff that's going on. Emotional hangovers
- 21:01Speaker 3: are very real, but Ole Miss has kind of shown
- 21:04Speaker 3: you over the last few years they do a good
- 21:05Speaker 3: job of navigating that. I'm right there with you, though. Florida,
- 21:08Speaker 3: wins this game, and I think there's a great chance
- 21:09Speaker 3: they're 6-0 to start this season. They play at Missouri next,
- 21:12Speaker 3: and I think they'll play South Carolina after that. I
- 21:14Speaker 3: actually think they're going to win both those games no
- 21:16Speaker 3: matter what happens here tonight, or not tonight, but this weekend.
- 21:20Speaker 3: So I'm taking Ole Miss, just kind of the same
- 21:23Speaker 3: reason as you, Trinidad believer, but it won't shock me
- 21:26Speaker 3: at all if Florida is able to win this game.
- 21:29Speaker 3: So it'll be a fun one. On to Athens, where
- 21:33Speaker 3: Georgia welcomes in an Oklahoma team that could not be
- 21:36Speaker 3: more different offensively and defensively. Just one of the best
- 21:39Speaker 3: defenses you'll find, one of the worst offenses you'll find
- 21:42Speaker 3: right now as far as their current level of play.
- 21:45Speaker 3: This is presented by PrizePix. You cover Georgia very closely
- 21:48Speaker 3: and do a great job with them. But on the
- 21:51Speaker 3: Oklahoma side, I don't know that there's many teams you
- 21:55Speaker 3: would want to go play when your offense is struggling defensively.
- 21:59Speaker 3: in this sec, but I certainly know that Kirby smarts
- 22:01Speaker 3: defense wouldn't be one of them. And so that, that
- 22:04Speaker 3: feels like a complete buzzsaw to me. If Georgia can
- 22:08Speaker 3: take care of business, but what are your thoughts or
- 22:10Speaker 3: are there any, is there any hope for Oklahoma this weekend?
- 22:14Speaker 2: Oh, there's hope for sure. Yeah.
- 22:16Speaker 1: I mean that, look, I think that Brent Venables is
- 22:19Speaker 1: a good coach. I think that we saw Oklahoma in
- 22:22Speaker 1: a spot last year at one point where their, their
- 22:25Speaker 1: back was kind of against the wall.
- 22:27Speaker 2: And they closed the season very strong. They came back.
- 22:32Speaker 1: They beat Alabama on the road when a lot of
- 22:34Speaker 1: people sort of had some of these similar labels around
- 22:38Speaker 1: their offense and feeling like, oh, Mateer sucks and they
- 22:42Speaker 1: can't do anything but hope to hit explosive plays with
- 22:45Speaker 1: Isaiah Cetania. That feels kind of like what people are
- 22:48Speaker 1: saying this week as well, and we saw them turn
- 22:52Speaker 1: that around by in part having some some big plays.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Defensively and, and turning, you know, turning Alabama over.
- 23:00Speaker 1: So I think when you've got a defense as good
- 23:02Speaker 1: as Oklahoma's defense, you always have a chance because it's
- 23:06Speaker 1: a high floor that can keep you in a game.
- 23:09Speaker 1: And it's never too late to figure something out offensively. The,
- 23:13Speaker 1: the mature quote about like using the crowd to realize
- 23:18Speaker 1: the guy was open. That would scare me a lot.
- 23:20Speaker 1: If I'm an Oklahoma fan, like that's a, that's a
- 23:22Speaker 1: pretty wild, admission. I'm not saying those things don't happen.
- 23:26Speaker 1: I just was kind of stunned that we got that
- 23:29Speaker 1: into the public domain.
- 23:34Speaker 3: Certain things happen. Certain things are just supposed to be unsaid.
- 23:37Speaker 3: That's the point. Don't say that. When you look at
- 23:42Speaker 3: this game, Georgia against Arkansas, we didn't do an Arkansas
- 23:46Speaker 3: preview because the spread was so big and obviously we'll
- 23:49Speaker 3: save Georgia for Some of their bigger matchups like this
- 23:51Speaker 3: one and others that will happen this year, the Florida
- 23:53Speaker 3: game and the Bama game. But Georgia, offensively, against a
- 23:58Speaker 3: really good Oklahoma defense. An Oklahoma defense that knows they
- 24:01Speaker 3: need to go basically do what they did against Michigan
- 24:03Speaker 3: and not have that big turnover at the end. They
- 24:05Speaker 3: need to hold them down. Now, they're playing an offense
- 24:07Speaker 3: that's much better than Michigan's offense was. But Oklahoma knows
- 24:10Speaker 3: what they need to do to go out and compete
- 24:12Speaker 3: in this game. They understand they're a two-touchdown dog in
- 24:14Speaker 3: this thing. Georgia's plan of attack... against an Oklahoma defense that,
- 24:19Speaker 3: though losing David Stone this week, which absolutely sucks, still
- 24:23Speaker 3: a really good front and a really good defense for
- 24:26Speaker 3: Brett Venables. Are you thinking that Georgia plays this, not conservatively,
- 24:31Speaker 3: but almost like Oklahoma's not going to take a lot
- 24:35Speaker 3: of risks and make Oklahoma prove that they can convert
- 24:39Speaker 3: before we really go crazy with this? Conservatively is the
- 24:42Speaker 3: wrong word. But is it kind of a, hey, we're
- 24:46Speaker 3: not going to make the mistakes that let them stick
- 24:48Speaker 3: around when they'll probably just do it themselves?
- 24:52Speaker 2: I am very curious what the approach is.
- 24:55Speaker 1: I don't think we've seen Georgia really open the playbook
- 24:58Speaker 1: yet offensively.
- 24:59Speaker 2: I mean, they went and just sat on the ball
- 25:02Speaker 2: at Arkansas. They ran the ball.
- 25:05Speaker 1: On 23 of their first 29 snaps, which got them
- 25:08Speaker 1: to halftime up 21-3.
- 25:09Speaker 2: And then they came out, went on like a.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Six-minute drive, turned Arkansas over three plays later, scored a touchdown,
- 25:20Speaker 1: three and outed them, and then hit a 61-yard bomb
- 25:24Speaker 1: to make it 38-3 and send everybody to the bench
- 25:26Speaker 1: with like 12 and a half minutes to go.
- 25:28Speaker 2: So I.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Think that this Georgia offense, the way that it is
- 25:34Speaker 1: being talked about nationally is kind of picking up the
- 25:39Speaker 1: baton from last year, where there's sort of this assumption
- 25:42Speaker 1: that They're maybe not that explosive. And Gunnar Stockton is
- 25:48Speaker 1: mid or whatever, you know, people want to say. And
- 25:52Speaker 1: I just think that people will be a little bit
- 25:55Speaker 1: surprised as this season goes on. I do think this
- 25:59Speaker 1: is a much more dynamic offense. I think this is
- 26:01Speaker 1: a different version of Gunnar Stockton than what we've seen so.
- 26:04Speaker 2: Far in his career. I think he has evolved as
- 26:07Speaker 2: a passer just in terms of he is not looking
- 26:10Speaker 2: to run the football anymore.
- 26:13Speaker 1: On passing downs anymore. He can still do it if
- 26:16Speaker 1: he needs to. He had a 60-yard rush last week
- 26:19Speaker 1: on a design run. But he is much more disciplined
- 26:24Speaker 1: in terms of keeping his eyes downfield and trying to
- 26:26Speaker 1: create explosives when things start breaking down. And it's like,
- 26:30Speaker 1: to me, that version of Gunnar Stockton is one that
- 26:34Speaker 1: Georgia could go very, very far with when you look
- 26:37Speaker 1: at what they've got on defense. So I think this
- 26:40Speaker 1: Georgia offense– It's tough to answer your question directly. I'm
- 26:47Speaker 1: not sure that running the ball into the teeth of
- 26:51Speaker 1: a really good Oklahoma front over and over is a
- 26:57Speaker 1: ton more safe.
- 27:00Speaker 2: I don't think you want.
- 27:01Speaker 1: To let Oklahoma hang around with Isaiah Cetania on the
- 27:04Speaker 1: other side. I just think that he's a guy who
- 27:07Speaker 1: can go 70 if you make a leverage mistake. which
- 27:10Speaker 1: Georgia's made a couple of this year, to be frank,
- 27:13Speaker 1: at the safety position. And I'm just not sure that
- 27:17Speaker 1: that's how you want to play this. And that will
- 27:21Speaker 1: be very fascinating to watch because I think that sometimes
- 27:24Speaker 1: there is a tendency, for lack of a better term,
- 27:28Speaker 1: with Kirby to feel good about his defense in a
- 27:32Speaker 1: game and really want to try and protect that defense.
- 27:35Speaker 2: And that would not be smart, in my opinion.
- 27:38Speaker 1: His rhetoric has been different throughout this off season and
- 27:43Speaker 1: really throughout the early season, like last week post game,
- 27:46Speaker 1: he was asked, was your team as physical as you
- 27:48Speaker 1: want them to be? And he was like, yeah, at times,
- 27:50Speaker 1: but that's not the only thing, right? Like I've seen
- 27:54Speaker 1: teams that are really explosive that aren't physical at all.
- 27:57Speaker 1: And it's just, he's thinking in those terms more than
- 28:02Speaker 1: I've ever seen him. Like this might be sort of
- 28:05Speaker 1: his Saban Kiffin moment, if that makes sense, where we're
- 28:09Speaker 1: seeing him, say, okay, I've got– yes, I want to
- 28:14Speaker 1: be able to run the ball and I want to
- 28:15Speaker 1: be able to do a lot of things that Georgia's
- 28:17Speaker 1: offense was able to do well last year.
- 28:19Speaker 2: But at the end of the day.
- 28:21Speaker 1: I've got to be able to have some easy points
- 28:24Speaker 1: and some easy yards that flip things. And I think
- 28:27Speaker 1: they'll look for explosive plays early. I think they'll try
- 28:30Speaker 1: and take advantage of an aggressive defense being aggressive and
- 28:35Speaker 1: try to find a way to kind of hit that
- 28:38Speaker 1: and get some things going.
- 28:41Speaker 3: Georgia defensively up against Oklahoma, an offense that has not
- 28:45Speaker 3: shown a lot this year outside of, I guess, the
- 28:47Speaker 3: UTEP game, which I don't know how much you read
- 28:50Speaker 3: into that or don't read into that because Michigan also
- 28:52Speaker 3: put a crap ton of points up on them for
- 28:54Speaker 3: the first time this year. But Georgia defensively, is it
- 28:59Speaker 3: truly about, like, you know, just not letting guys like
- 29:04Speaker 3: Satanga beat you? Like, is it a lot of too high? Like,
- 29:07Speaker 3: are they trying to get out? I mean, material... under
- 29:09Speaker 3: pressure hasn't been great. Just thoughts around like the way
- 29:12Speaker 3: they'll approach this game from that perspective when you do
- 29:14Speaker 3: know that it's an offense that's very much struggling.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:17Speaker 1: I mean, I think there's, it certainly is. The Satania
- 29:20Speaker 1: storyline is a huge one. I think the Georgia run
- 29:23Speaker 1: defense is really salty. It was fourth nationally last year.
- 29:27Speaker 1: They returned pretty, you know, all but a couple of
- 29:31Speaker 1: guys up front. They, they are doing all the things
- 29:34Speaker 1: you want to see them do in terms of defending
- 29:37Speaker 1: the run early in the season. Not just that they
- 29:39Speaker 1: are stopping those plays, but just the way that they
- 29:42Speaker 1: play their edges and.
- 29:45Speaker 2: The way that everybody gets to the football.
- 29:47Speaker 1: It would surprise me a lot if Oklahoma came in
- 29:50Speaker 1: and just ripped off six yards per carry or something
- 29:54Speaker 1: like that.
- 29:55Speaker 2: I don't see that happening.
- 29:58Speaker 1: It becomes a question of You get Mateer into third
- 30:03Speaker 1: and long. Do you want to play him soft or
- 30:06Speaker 1: do you want to play him aggressively? I haven't seen
- 30:09Speaker 1: this Georgia pass rush really impress me yet in terms
- 30:14Speaker 1: of its front four. I think that their inside linebackers
- 30:17Speaker 1: are awesome when they use them in pressure packages. But
- 30:21Speaker 1: those inside linebackers are also great athletes. And I think
- 30:25Speaker 1: that if you look at Mateer right now, the thing
- 30:27Speaker 1: he might be most comfortable doing is throwing to Rocky Pierce.
- 30:30Speaker 1: that tight end of theirs. And they, they probably need
- 30:33Speaker 1: to do that in this game. Cause I just don't
- 30:37Speaker 1: know that Satania is the type of guy who material
- 30:42Speaker 1: is going to hit like nine times or something for
- 30:45Speaker 1: third down conversions or, or just like small chunk plays.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Like he's the one where you got to hit the
- 30:50Speaker 1: big wheel and, and hope that it busts. So I
- 30:54Speaker 1: just think that Georgia needs to not be conservative on
- 31:00Speaker 1: how they play Oklahoma and third down, obviously, but I
- 31:04Speaker 1: do think that it would be a mistake to just
- 31:08Speaker 1: assume material is going to not be able to hit
- 31:13Speaker 1: somebody in man to man coverage. I think that you're
- 31:15Speaker 1: talking about a quarterback who has expressed very openly that,
- 31:19Speaker 1: that he's not seeing the field right now. And I
- 31:21Speaker 1: think that goes back to all the things we were
- 31:22Speaker 1: just talking about with that Tennessee, Texas matchup, right? Where,
- 31:25Speaker 1: You want to vary your looks and you want to
- 31:27Speaker 1: drop a defensive line out. You want to find ways
- 31:31Speaker 1: to give him something different post-snap than what he reads pre-snap.
- 31:34Speaker 1: I think if Georgia does that, they will freeze him
- 31:38Speaker 1: on a lot of his first reads. That could help
- 31:40Speaker 1: his pass rush. It also could help him throw an
- 31:43Speaker 1: interception or two. I think Georgia will have plenty of
- 31:48Speaker 1: scheme in this game. I don't think they'll go one
- 31:52Speaker 1: way or the other, but I do expect Georgia's linebackers.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Like if you're wondering what they're doing on third downs, it'll,
- 32:01Speaker 1: it'll be fun to watch.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Where's Chris Cole.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Is he on the edge or is he lined up
- 32:06Speaker 1: over the tight end and the slot or somewhere like that?
- 32:09Speaker 1: And then where's Justin Williams, who is, has been very,
- 32:14Speaker 1: very good for them on, on blitz packages so far
- 32:16Speaker 1: this year had should have had two sacks last.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Week against Arkansas on like six or seven pass rush snaps.
- 32:22Speaker 1: So, uh, They'll have different things to show material, but
- 32:26Speaker 1: the time that they use them. The question for Oklahoma
- 32:29Speaker 1: in this game is, can you catch Georgia being a
- 32:31Speaker 1: little too aggressive once or twice and get someone loose
- 32:36Speaker 1: in man coverage for the big play that flips the
- 32:38Speaker 1: field and gets you points? And then hope your defense
- 32:42Speaker 1: can force a couple turnovers. That, to me, feels like
- 32:44Speaker 1: the game.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Huge number in this one. 14 points. It is in Athens. Again,
- 32:51Speaker 3: a lot of that has to do with how Oklahoma's
- 32:53Speaker 3: offense has looked. A lot of it has to do
- 32:54Speaker 3: with Oklahoma not really impressing last week. I expect Oklahoma
- 33:01Speaker 3: to play better. I just don't know if they can
- 33:02Speaker 3: get enough going offensively. Like, if you told me that
- 33:05Speaker 3: Georgia got to 28, I might feel good about this
- 33:08Speaker 3: spread there. And that's kind of where I'm at. Now,
- 33:12Speaker 3: if it is more of a rock fight, they're able
- 33:14Speaker 3: to do some things nicely defensively. Like, maybe that keeps
- 33:17Speaker 3: them around. I just I need to see it. I
- 33:22Speaker 3: am having a tough time believing that this game is ultra,
- 33:25Speaker 3: ultra competitive late in the fourth quarter. And I could
- 33:32Speaker 3: see Oklahoma covering, but I need to see it before
- 33:34Speaker 3: I'll say it. So I'll take UGA minus 14 in
- 33:37Speaker 3: this one. If it's a grinded out, lower scoring game
- 33:43Speaker 3: that Georgia wins... 21-13 and they don't cover the spread,
- 33:47Speaker 3: but it's never really in doubt. Kirby will be fine.
- 33:50Speaker 3: He wants to win games. I like Georgia to cover here.
- 33:56Speaker 3: I don't think that's too Homer-ish. I'm not just trying
- 33:58Speaker 3: to be nice to you. I've taken both upsets so far.
- 34:01Speaker 3: I guess I'll take one favorite on the points today.
- 34:07Speaker 1: I feel like this is a game that Georgia has
- 34:10Speaker 1: a pretty good shot at controlling. The David Stone news
- 34:13Speaker 1: is huge to me. It's But, I mean, the other
- 34:16Speaker 1: side of it is, like, Georgia did have Nate Frazier
- 34:19Speaker 1: go out of the game last Saturday at Arkansas.
- 34:22Speaker 2: He appears to be fine in the big picture.
- 34:26Speaker 1: But he's been playing at a really high level to
- 34:28Speaker 1: start the season, like, running over dudes legitimately. Like, as
- 34:33Speaker 1: physical of a running back as I've seen in a
- 34:35Speaker 1: Georgia uniform in a while. If that injury that he
- 34:41Speaker 1: had at Arkansas slows him, like, 25%, I do think
- 34:45Speaker 1: that changes the calculus a little bit for Georgia's ability
- 34:48Speaker 1: to run the football.
- 34:49Speaker 2: I still think they'll be able to run.
- 34:50Speaker 1: The football, but I just kind of feel like that
- 34:54Speaker 1: this could be a game that Georgia controls and wins,
- 34:58Speaker 1: but like Oklahoma backdoors it somehow and covers the spread.
- 35:02Speaker 1: The 14 feels like a lot. I think this is
- 35:06Speaker 1: a really good Georgia team. That's going to like be
- 35:09Speaker 1: back in a level of compete for a national title
- 35:13Speaker 1: from I know they've made the playoff the last two years,
- 35:16Speaker 1: but I think that this team has a higher ceiling than,
- 35:21Speaker 1: than any of the ones that we've seen since 2023.
- 35:24Speaker 1: So I'm, I'm picking Georgia to win, but I do
- 35:27Speaker 1: have a feeling that Oklahoma is gonna rally the troops
- 35:32Speaker 1: and that they're going to come in and that they're
- 35:34Speaker 1: going to play well and that they will, you know, have,
- 35:39Speaker 1: have some new stuff to show to Georgia in this
- 35:41Speaker 1: game and they will hit a player too. And, I
- 35:44Speaker 1: think this stays close through the first half, and I
- 35:48Speaker 1: think that Georgia wins and kind of pulls away and
- 35:53Speaker 1: wins by 10, but I'm not in the camp of
- 35:58Speaker 1: Georgia's going to go in and blow Oklahoma out in
- 36:00Speaker 1: this football game.
- 36:04Speaker 3: Let's finish up with Oregon and USC. It's really a
- 36:08Speaker 3: disservice that this game is not happening at 10.30 p.m.
- 36:11Speaker 3: Eastern time, a little Pac-12 after dark. But it is
- 36:14Speaker 3: a Big Ten night game, I guess. Not really after dark,
- 36:18Speaker 3: super late. But it won't be dark out there. It'll
- 36:21Speaker 3: be dark for us here on the East Coast, God's Coast.
- 36:23Speaker 3: But Oregon, USC, both these teams I think desperately need this.
- 36:28Speaker 3: And it is presented by PrizePix. But Oregon loses this
- 36:32Speaker 3: and I think they're done. Certainly I don't know that
- 36:36Speaker 3: they'd be statistically done. They'd go win the Big Ten
- 36:39Speaker 3: and be fine. But Your questions around them winning the
- 36:43Speaker 3: Big Ten would certainly be at an all-time high. USC,
- 36:46Speaker 3: kind of the same metric. If they lose this, they're
- 36:49Speaker 3: not out of it by any means, but they do
- 36:51Speaker 3: have road trips to Indiana and Happy Valley. They have
- 36:53Speaker 3: to play Ohio State at home. And it's almost like, man,
- 36:56Speaker 3: if you can't get Oregon right now when they're clearly
- 36:59Speaker 3: vulnerable and they've clearly got issues, if you can't get
- 37:02Speaker 3: them now, who are you going to get and win ever?
- 37:05Speaker 3: So I think this game is of massive importance for
- 37:07Speaker 3: both teams. probably slightly more important for Oregon because they
- 37:10Speaker 3: do already have the loss. Um, but man, USC didn't
- 37:13Speaker 3: look great last week, certainly defensively, uh, against Rutgers. Um, what, yeah,
- 37:22Speaker 3: let's just roll with a big picture thought here on
- 37:24Speaker 3: this one before we get started.
- 37:27Speaker 2: I mean, can anybody stop the other team? That's my
- 37:29Speaker 2: big picture thought like USC just gave up. What was it?
- 37:33Speaker 2: 35 or 42 to Rutgers in that game.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Uh, in a game that they had a hundred yard
- 37:41Speaker 1: pick six, they gave up 35 points to Rutgers. That
- 37:45Speaker 1: game was 42, 35 USC and Rutgers, you know, goes
- 37:49Speaker 1: off for 35 points after they had a whole drive
- 37:53Speaker 1: where they drove all the way down the field and
- 37:55Speaker 1: didn't score.
- 37:56Speaker 2: Like that's an insane.
- 37:59Speaker 1: I mean, the total yards in that game were four
- 38:02Speaker 1: 61 to Southern Cal and four 60 to Rutgers.
- 38:06Speaker 2: Like, It was bad.
- 38:08Speaker 1: It was a Rutgers team that we saw, you know,
- 38:11Speaker 1: get whipped in week one by you.
- 38:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:14Speaker 3: And then lose to the ACC's worst in Boston college
- 38:16Speaker 3: the very next week. Correct. So, yeah, not a good
- 38:20Speaker 3: Rutgers team. This isn't like Greg Shiano part one when
- 38:24Speaker 3: they were decent.
- 38:26Speaker 2: Yeah. You let Dylan Lonergan go for.
- 38:29Speaker 1: 18 and 36 and two tutties.
- 38:33Speaker 2: That's not terrible. I mean, they, they picked them off twice.
- 38:37Speaker 1: But the thing that should worry you if you're a
- 38:39Speaker 1: USC fan is they still can't stop the run. They
- 38:43Speaker 1: cannot stop the run. And Oregon will run the football
- 38:48Speaker 1: in this game. And I just think that there was
- 38:51Speaker 1: this early season conversation that was happening of, oh, Gary
- 38:57Speaker 1: Patterson is exactly what Lincoln Riley has always needed, and
- 39:01Speaker 1: he's going to bring.
- 39:01Speaker 2: This edge to USC's defense and blah, blah, blah.
- 39:05Speaker 1: And it's like, no, I mean, they're still USC and
- 39:07Speaker 1: he's still Lincoln Riley and they're soft. Like they're soft
- 39:10Speaker 1: on defense. They've always been soft on defense. That's just
- 39:14Speaker 1: who he is. That's the program that he runs. And
- 39:17Speaker 1: until proven otherwise, that's who he's going to be in
- 39:19Speaker 1: my eyes. My position on USC throughout this year is
- 39:24Speaker 1: kind of been, Hey, lots of great young talent that probably,
- 39:30Speaker 1: has a shot to maybe like really compete for a
- 39:33Speaker 1: national title in 2027, but 2026 might be about, can
- 39:40Speaker 1: you ruin the season for a couple other teams, not
- 39:44Speaker 1: go and have your own run to glory. And that
- 39:47Speaker 1: Rutgers game, made me feel like that's probably more likely
- 39:53Speaker 1: what we see.
- 39:54Speaker 2: They don't play well on the road, but they ain't
- 39:57Speaker 2: going on the road this week.
- 39:59Speaker 1: They're bringing Oregon to Los Angeles, and I do think
- 40:03Speaker 1: that they will probably have a shot to get a
- 40:05Speaker 1: big crowd in there at 4-0 against Oregon. I know
- 40:09Speaker 1: that Oregon's not– the luster's off Oregon a little bit
- 40:13Speaker 1: after that Oklahoma State game, but you would have to
- 40:16Speaker 1: think anyone that's a real USC fan– and understands this
- 40:19Speaker 1: rivalry would, would be excited for this game in LA.
- 40:23Speaker 1: So I, I do think that they'll have a good
- 40:25Speaker 1: crowd and I think that they'll be fired up for
- 40:27Speaker 1: this matchup.
- 40:28Speaker 2: And I think that they have a.
- 40:30Speaker 1: Shot to play better defensively than they did last week
- 40:34Speaker 1: without all the travel across country.
- 40:38Speaker 3: Oregon. Last time we saw them, they put about 4
- 40:40Speaker 3: billion points up on a essentially high school team. Um,
- 40:45Speaker 3: So I don't know how much we really learned there.
- 40:47Speaker 2: That was a joke, dude.
- 40:47Speaker 3: Yeah, we learned that the offense can get rolling against
- 40:50Speaker 3: a really bad team. But the last time that we
- 40:52Speaker 3: saw them against anybody with a pulse was that Oklahoma
- 40:55Speaker 3: State game. And so I kind of wonder the same
- 40:57Speaker 3: thing for them. And I wonder if this just ends
- 40:59Speaker 3: up becoming like a massive shootout. We've looked at a
- 41:01Speaker 3: lot of games this week that we think will be
- 41:04Speaker 3: kind of high scoring. But is this kind of a man?
- 41:07Speaker 3: Maiava is going to get his and more is going
- 41:09Speaker 3: to get his. And one of them is probably going
- 41:11Speaker 3: to make a mistake or two, too many. And that's
- 41:13Speaker 3: the way it goes down. Like, do you have, do
- 41:14Speaker 3: you have a lot of confidence in Oregon's defense either?
- 41:16Speaker 2: Uh, no, I don't.
- 41:19Speaker 1: I mean, I have more confidence in Oregon's defense than
- 41:21Speaker 1: I do USC's defense.
- 41:22Speaker 2: Oregon has shown the.
- 41:24Speaker 1: Ability to, you know, I will say both these defenses
- 41:27Speaker 1: have created a decent amount of havoc this year. And
- 41:30Speaker 1: I think that's the interesting piece of it is on
- 41:33Speaker 1: a down to down basis. USC's defense is still what
- 41:36Speaker 1: we've come to expect. Um, but they are playing a
- 41:40Speaker 1: style that is kind of high risk, high reward.
- 41:45Speaker 2: And leads to things like a hundred yard pick six. Right.
- 41:49Speaker 1: And I think that that is the story of this
- 41:52Speaker 1: game is like, who can maintain that throttle on offense and,
- 41:57Speaker 1: and play at that wide open base that they want
- 41:59Speaker 1: to play at in terms of scoring the points without
- 42:02Speaker 1: making that mistake. And who's going to be stupid enough
- 42:05Speaker 1: to cross that line from, brave and reckless. Coming into
- 42:14Speaker 1: the season, I would have been like, oh, it will
- 42:15Speaker 1: definitely be Jaden Maiava that makes a big mistake here.
- 42:17Speaker 2: I'm not sure about that right now.
- 42:19Speaker 1: I'm not sure that Dante Moore doesn't make a big
- 42:23Speaker 1: mistake in this game just as much as I think
- 42:26Speaker 1: Maiava is capable of it. I look at the Oregon defense.
- 42:32Speaker 1: They do some nice things in terms of.
- 42:37Speaker 2: Kind of like they've.
- 42:39Speaker 1: Not gotten totally killed in the passing game. Their secondary
- 42:44Speaker 1: has been okay at times in certain respects. So can
- 42:51Speaker 1: USC run the ball, right? And can Oregon get– can
- 42:55Speaker 1: like Bear Alexander and some of these guys on the
- 42:56Speaker 1: Oregon front, are they ready to play this year yet?
- 43:00Speaker 2: Or are they just kind of.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Taking a pass on 2026 and cashing the NIL checks?
- 43:04Speaker 2: I think that's the question.
- 43:06Speaker 3: What's the biggest difference in this game to you?
- 43:12Speaker 1: I don't know that there is a huge difference between
- 43:14Speaker 1: these two teams right now. Honestly, I think they're both
- 43:17Speaker 1: good offense, bad defense. They're both former Pac-12 schools, but
- 43:24Speaker 1: they've got kind of a former Big 12.
- 43:26Speaker 2: Vibe to them at the moment, honestly.
- 43:28Speaker 1: I think that Oregon's got more high-end talent in places
- 43:34Speaker 1: defensively that You need it like up front, but I
- 43:39Speaker 1: think that USC just recruited a bunch of it.
- 43:41Speaker 2: And so if.
- 43:43Speaker 1: You're already kind of bad on offense as, as USC is,
- 43:48Speaker 1: I'm sorry, if you're bad on defense as USC is,
- 43:52Speaker 1: why not throw some of these young guys out there
- 43:54Speaker 1: who are super talented and let them go? I'll say
- 43:57Speaker 1: this though, like from a sustained drives standpoint, in terms
- 44:03Speaker 1: of if someone's ahead fourth quarter, and they need to
- 44:08Speaker 1: go and kill the clock. I think USC has the
- 44:11Speaker 1: capability to do more in terms of their offense looks very,
- 44:16Speaker 1: very comfortable right now, whether it's throwing the ball, running
- 44:19Speaker 1: the ball, throwing downfield, running screen game.
- 44:24Speaker 2: They can do a little bit of everything.
- 44:25Speaker 1: I think they're very well-rounded offensively, and Dante Moore has
- 44:29Speaker 1: not looked that comfortable.
- 44:31Speaker 2: So I think maybe the biggest.
- 44:34Speaker 1: Difference between these two teams, I know that Oregon just
- 44:36Speaker 1: blew out Portland State, but I think USC has cause
- 44:41Speaker 1: to feel like they're in rhythm coming into this game
- 44:46Speaker 1: and that being in rhythm counts for a lot offensively
- 44:48Speaker 1: and once you're in it, it can be hard to
- 44:52Speaker 1: knock a team out of it.
- 44:55Speaker 3: This spread shows Oregon minus two and a half on
- 44:59Speaker 3: the road at USC obviously two West Coast teams, so
- 45:03Speaker 3: you do travel down south, but you're not having to
- 45:05Speaker 3: go Across time zones, maybe if you're a USC fan
- 45:08Speaker 3: and you're going class all the way full, you're hoping
- 45:10Speaker 3: that it was just the time zone coming to Eastern
- 45:12Speaker 3: time that messed you up last week.
- 45:14Speaker 2: Maybe it was.
- 45:16Speaker 3: Which is a real thing, but also it was still
- 45:19Speaker 3: Rutgers too.
- 45:20Speaker 2: That's true.
- 45:23Speaker 3: I really don't know in this one. I'll tell you
- 45:25Speaker 3: the truth. I think I just have a little bit
- 45:27Speaker 3: more confidence in Oregon's defense to get a couple more stops.
- 45:31Speaker 3: But I do think that if either team plays with
- 45:33Speaker 3: the lead, that certainly favors... well, it would favor USC
- 45:37Speaker 3: a lot, but if it's back and forth, I can
- 45:40Speaker 3: see Oregon's defense making one more stop than I can USC's.
- 45:44Speaker 3: I think this is a close game. I think it's
- 45:45Speaker 3: a good game. I think I like Oregon with the points.
- 45:49Speaker 3: I'll say high scoring, 34-31. I don't know, something in
- 45:54Speaker 3: that range. It's a really pretty score. It's probably not
- 45:56Speaker 3: going to be that pretty, but something like that. I
- 45:58Speaker 3: think Oregon wins close. If this game got away from
- 46:01Speaker 3: either team, I would probably lean Oregon too in thinking
- 46:05Speaker 3: that they got a little bit more done. Their defense
- 46:07Speaker 3: got a couple more stops, but I'll go with the
- 46:09Speaker 3: ducks here. Very little confidence, just making a pick because
- 46:13Speaker 3: we're making picks.
- 46:15Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, there was a reason why Oregon was
- 46:20Speaker 1: a national title favorite or the national title favorite.
- 46:23Speaker 2: For a lot of people. It is a young season.
- 46:26Speaker 1: We watched Notre Dame lose Northern Illinois and go on
- 46:30Speaker 1: and play in a national title game just a couple
- 46:32Speaker 1: of years ago.
- 46:33Speaker 2: Right?
- 46:33Speaker 1: Like, There's a lot that can happen over the course
- 46:36Speaker 1: of a college football season.
- 46:38Speaker 2: I question the coordinator hires that Dan Lanning made.
- 46:41Speaker 1: I think that his former boss, Kirby Smart, made a
- 46:44Speaker 1: similar mistake at one point in his career on the
- 46:47Speaker 1: internal promotion chain and had to go and fix it
- 46:51Speaker 1: and hire Todd Monken. That's going to be the evolution
- 46:54Speaker 1: for Dan this offseason. Before all that, there is a
- 46:58Speaker 1: season of football to play. I And with you, if
- 47:02Speaker 1: you look at the Oregon front, with you, Uyunglele, and
- 47:06Speaker 1: Bear Alexander, they've got more guys that I think can
- 47:10Speaker 1: make that big play.
- 47:12Speaker 2: Where they get the strip sack and turn the opponent over.
- 47:18Speaker 1: But I am very curious, what is the consistency of
- 47:22Speaker 1: performance going to be?
- 47:23Speaker 2: How will they show up? I don't think that Dan
- 47:26Speaker 2: Lanning is in.
- 47:29Speaker 1: The elite coaching tier yet, but I do think he's
- 47:32Speaker 1: a really, really, really good coach. I think that I
- 47:36Speaker 1: trust him to get his team off the mat more
- 47:39Speaker 1: than I trust Lincoln Riley. I think Lincoln Riley has
- 47:42Speaker 1: given us pretty much a decade now sample size of
- 47:46Speaker 1: exactly who he is.
- 47:47Speaker 2: He's the type of team that is going.
- 47:49Speaker 1: To give up 42 points to Rutgers and get into
- 47:52Speaker 1: shootouts that they shouldn't get into and then probably.
- 47:55Speaker 2: Come really close in a game like this.
- 47:59Speaker 1: But not quite get over the hump. That's, that's the,
- 48:02Speaker 1: the USC way lately. So until proven otherwise, and maybe
- 48:05Speaker 1: this young talent helps improve.
- 48:07Speaker 2: Otherwise I'm on the Oregon train, Oregon minus three.
- 48:12Speaker 1: Feels like one of those lines that like, if you
- 48:15Speaker 1: do believe in all those things that I just said,
- 48:17Speaker 1: if you do believe in Dan landing versus Lincoln Riley,
- 48:20Speaker 1: if you do believe in sort of this Oregon roster,
- 48:23Speaker 1: just coming together and getting like re-engaged in this season
- 48:26Speaker 1: properly with a.
- 48:28Speaker 2: A potential top five overall pick at quarterback.
- 48:32Speaker 1: This would be a really nice spot because I don't
- 48:34Speaker 1: think anybody coming into the season thought you'd be able
- 48:36Speaker 1: to bet Oregon at a field goal favorite against USC.
- 48:41Speaker 3: Should be a fun one. A lot of good stuff
- 48:43Speaker 3: this weekend. Hey guys, make sure you are subscribed to
- 48:47Speaker 3: college football addiction. Make sure you're subscribed where we saw
- 48:49Speaker 3: this to dog central as well. Graham does a good job,
- 48:53Speaker 3: not only with UGA, but a lot of good stuff
- 48:55Speaker 3: over there on their site. We will continue to do
- 48:58Speaker 3: this week after week where we go into deep dives
- 49:01Speaker 3: for three or four or five of the biggest games
- 49:03Speaker 3: of the week. Today we did Tennessee, Texas. We did
- 49:06Speaker 3: Ole Miss, Florida, USC, Oregon, and then that last one.
- 49:10Speaker 3: Why is it slipping my mind now what we did
- 49:13Speaker 3: on that last one? Georgia, Oklahoma. Yeah, Georgia, Oklahoma. I
- 49:16Speaker 3: just talked about Dog Central. So some big stuff going
- 49:18Speaker 3: on this weekend. We've got another good week. next week
- 49:20Speaker 3: coming up, so make sure you are subscribed. Graham, thanks
- 49:22Speaker 3: for hanging out, bud.
- 49:23Speaker 2: Absolutely. Thanks for having me, TJ.
