- 0:09ERic: Hey there, sydney, I have a question for you.
- 0:13ERic: You're all dolled up in your bride's maid's dress.
- 0:17ERic: Looking at that seven-tiered cake.
- 0:20ERic: What do you think?
- 0:22ERic: Is it going to be the key to happiness and wedded bliss?
- 0:27Sydney: You know what, Eric?
- 0:28Sydney: It doesn't appear so.
- 0:32ERic: This is Eric.
- 0:34Sydney: And this is Sydney.
- 0:36ERic: And this is Homeark Mysteries and, more Well, sydney, how are you doing?
- 0:46Sydney: Oh my gosh, I'm living the dream.
- 0:48Sydney: How are you doing, eric?
- 0:51ERic: You know what I am doing?
- 0:54ERic: Great, it was my birthday last week, oh my gosh.
- 0:59ERic: Other people go ahead and get their big screen TV for, like the beginning of football season, my wife got me a 77-inch TV for the kickoff, to countdown to Christmas.
- 1:15Sydney: Oh wow, she knows you.
- 1:17Sydney: Yes, she knows you.
- 1:20ERic: And the funny thing is.
- 1:22ERic: So we had a 55-inch which fit perfectly with the Entertainment Council we had and, to be honest, it was perfectly adequate size.
- 1:31ERic: But I've been like complaining and saying we need a bigger one, we want a 65-inch, we want a 65-inch.
- 1:37ERic: And finally, for my birthday, she surprised me with the weekend I was under.
- 1:44ERic: The guys were going to get a pedicure and Best Buy is right by the whatever the manicure place.
- 1:51ERic: And she's like, okay, we're going in.
- 1:55ERic: And we got in and I talked her into the 77-inch and she's like, okay, it's whatever, we can do it.
- 2:03ERic: And I got home and it was getting delivered and I sit in there watching TV, going, holy crap, this is going to be big and sure enough, it literally takes up the entire wall between a bookshelf and the edge of the wall and our Entertainment Council under there now looks ridiculous.
- 2:22ERic: So my wife's like I have to go out and buy an Entertainment Council.
- 2:25ERic: And I was talking to, I was texting one of my neighbors like, oh, my, we're watching hockey.
- 2:29ERic: And I'm like, oh, this is so awesome.
- 2:32ERic: And he texted me a few minutes later and he was walking his dogs and he's like, yeah, I saw the TV through your window but it had to be distorted because it's just huge.
- 2:43ERic: I'm like no, that's how big it is.
- 2:46ERic: So it was absolutely fantastic to watch checking it twice, though to kick off the countdown to Christmas season, it was fun.
- 2:57Sydney: Well, eric, you know I am not counting down to Christmas yet.
- 3:01Sydney: I refuse.
- 3:02Sydney: So I'm glad one of us is is taking part in early Christmas festivities, but I will not be until after Thanksgiving.
- 3:11Sydney: I have to.
- 3:13ERic: Are you recording and going to watch them all, or are you just trying to pick and choose?
- 3:18Sydney: So I'm just waiting to hear what you have to say and if they're good enough for you I will record them.
- 3:24Sydney: But if, if it's just anything, I think I'll wait, because that's kind of how I was last year or two and I think that serves me well.
- 3:35Sydney: Some people I didn't end up agreeing on all the movies, Like there was the one with Lacey Shabare and she had the neighborhood.
- 3:44ERic: Halla at the Holly.
- 3:46Sydney: Yeah, that one was, I think.
- 3:48Sydney: I found what's his face to be just too intense for me.
- 3:54ERic: West.
- 3:54Sydney: Brown was yeah, with his HOA style Christmas, decorating us like whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 4:00Sydney: Someone came knocking on my door.
- 4:04ERic: You are moving to a neighborhood with the HOA, I assume, right?
- 4:08Sydney: And I have a ring doorbell.
- 4:10Sydney: I'll be silencing that.
- 4:13ERic: You know you're going to be having the the HOA committee coming up saying you don't have enough Christmas flair going.
- 4:21Sydney: I seriously doubt that, but if that happens, I stand corrected Okay.
- 4:29ERic: So where are you at?
- 4:30ERic: In cooking your baked goods for the the holidays, because you are living the Hallmark dream.
- 4:35Sydney: so so obviously things right now have been a little bit on hold with everything that's going on and also the packing of everything.
- 4:48Sydney: I don't have stuff at my disposal, but I usually start making my grandma's cookies At the beginning of December because I have to ship them to everyone in my family and they're.
- 5:02Sydney: They're called spritz cookies and they're.
- 5:04Sydney: It's like a German thing and basically it's like butter cookies with fancy sprinkles on top and oh, but you use a cookie press so it comes out like it's a long cylindrical thing that you put the dough in and then you have the shape at the base and then you press it and it comes out in the form.
- 5:24Sydney: And I just don't know how that lady did it until until she was 88 years old and then she passed it on to me.
- 5:31Sydney: But she was pressing those cookies and she made like hundreds of them because they're small and then you have to fit them all into a tin.
- 5:39Sydney: I remember my first year.
- 5:41Sydney: I was like cramping while I was pressing the press and there's so much butter that you're slip sliding all over the place.
- 5:49ERic: Slip slide, no way.
- 5:52Sydney: Speaking, so you made me think of something.
- 5:53ERic: I think I told you how I'm doing book club with my daughter and we're reading Hannah Swenson's.
- 5:59Sydney: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:01ERic: So we're, I'm through four and two.
- 6:04ERic: Two things one, when she makes cookies and she gives the recipes, because she gives, like, the recipes throughout the book, so it'll be like the end of the chapter and it'll be oh, how to make the chocolate chip crunch.
- 6:15ERic: You know cookie, but she's always like this recipe makes whatever 20 dozen.
- 6:22ERic: That's crazy.
- 6:23ERic: So but the other thing I was thinking of is and it was funny because I just finished a book and I was like Hannah annoys Sydney so much in the movies.
- 6:37ERic: If you got to know book Hannah, I think you would be walking around in like you know, it's like people have a.
- 6:45ERic: What is it?
- 6:46ERic: The car rage, whatever, when you're driving, road rage.
- 6:50Sydney: Yeah, road rage.
- 6:51ERic: You'd have Hannah rage, because she is 10 times worse, 20 times worse in the books, with her just complete lack of boundaries, complete disregard for the law, the way she just stomps over people.
- 7:07ERic: It plus, once again, the books have not.
- 7:11ERic: They were definitely written in a different, the first ones at least, definitely written in a different period.
- 7:16ERic: So there's also some of that to deal with.
- 7:19ERic: There's fat shaming essentially in every book and stuff.
- 7:24Sydney: So the boundaries though for me are the worst.
- 7:26Sydney: It's terrible, terrible Okay well, I guess it's good that I haven't started.
- 7:33ERic: So, but what we should do is we should switch over to talk about Goldie and fatal vows.
- 7:43ERic: Are you ready?
- 7:44Sydney: Yes, Okay so I'm so ready.
- 7:47ERic: So what is fatal vows about?
- 7:50ERic: Well, let me tell you.
- 7:51ERic: Let me tell you what fatal vows is all about.
- 7:54ERic: It is when Goldie agreed to cater Tom's ex Jasmine's elaborate wedding.
- 8:01ERic: She didn't expect, oh expect.
- 8:03ERic: She didn't expect a dead groom and a missing girl.
- 8:07ERic: And then, of course, angela would bring her together with Tom again to catch a killer and find Jess.
- 8:13ERic: And, of course, the stars, nikki Delos, andrew Walker, lachlan and, our favorite JC, don.
- 8:23Sydney: Of course.
- 8:25ERic: So, before we go and dive into fatal vows, why don't you tell us what we'll be sipping on?
- 8:33Sydney: Okay.
- 8:33Sydney: So, in keeping with our seven layer wedding cake, we are going with a signature movie cocktail of a wedding cake and the ingredients are like whipped cream or vanilla vodka.
- 8:47Sydney: You know they have those vodka's that are in life.
- 8:49Sydney: I know they have.
- 8:52ERic: I have.
- 8:52ERic: I have actually both and I can tell you I do not think they taste any different.
- 8:56ERic: Whipped cream.
- 8:59Sydney: Well, okay, tastes the same.
- 9:00Sydney: So you put like some sort of a little whip like vanilla in the whipped cream, I don't know, okay.
- 9:06Sydney: And then you're going to do like a little bit of chocolate liqueur, a little bit of Bailey's, and then on the rim of your martini glass you're going to put some frosting of your choice, because some people are vanilla, some people are buttercream, some people are chocolate.
- 9:17Sydney: You know what?
- 9:18Sydney: It's all for you.
- 9:19Sydney: So you're going to have the sprinkles of your choice, coding the frosting, and you'll just shake up those ingredients and throw them in.
- 9:28Sydney: Well, just drizzle them into your martini glass.
- 9:33Sydney: And then yeah, and then you have a nice little wedding cake cocktail to accompany your fatal vow watching.
- 9:43ERic: So I sit here in my office where we record, and to my left is my bar, and as you're reading off all that ingredients, I'm like check, check, check, check.
- 9:54ERic: And then going back to the pantry, I know I've got the sprinkles and I do have some frosting, so I may have to make a wedding cake.
- 10:02Sydney: You know what?
- 10:02Sydney: I just think that that might be one of our most easy cocktails, because most people have that stuff.
- 10:10ERic: I think and you don't need, like you're saying, you don't even have to dive right into.
- 10:16ERic: You can go and get the little like airplane bottle of the whipped cream or the vanilla vodka to go get a whole big bottle there you go Super easy.
- 10:26Sydney: bottles are so cute, eric.
- 10:28Sydney: They're like sometimes cuter than a perfume bottle.
- 10:30Sydney: I love that.
- 10:32ERic: I did get this one because I didn't want to invest in it, because my wife likes rotitos vodka, but I think it's like the Dan acroid no, dan acroid has the skull, but it's called alien vodka and it's got this little tiny.
- 10:46ERic: Looks like a little.
- 10:48ERic: You know, area 52 alien 51 or 51, 52.
- 10:53ERic: I've been drinking.
- 10:54Sydney: It's your alien stuff, right and it's green.
- 10:58ERic: It's got like a little green tint to it.
- 10:59ERic: It's a super cute, super cute.
- 11:02ERic: Post a picture of it on our Instagram for everyone to see and everyone will go.
- 11:07ERic: What's the meaning of this?
- 11:08ERic: But if they listen to the podcast, they will know.
- 11:10Sydney: Yeah, or especially on Halloween, like you put hey for your Halloween cocktails.
- 11:15Sydney: Guys, you need this alien juice.
- 11:17ERic: There we go, okay, well, you're ready now that we've got our wedding cake chilled and in the, in the martini glass, ready to talk fatal vows.
- 11:27Sydney: I am ready, especially since that's one layer, just one layer.
- 11:32ERic: Perfect.
- 11:32ERic: So what, if anything did you like about the third installment of the curious cater?
- 11:40Sydney: Well, I mean it was nice to see everybody again.
- 11:42Sydney: I think I mentioned last time with her when we were doing our preview.
- 11:47Sydney: It was nice to see Jamie, who's the maid of honor, who was also the best friend and picture perfect mysteries.
- 11:56Sydney: She looks the same.
- 11:58Sydney: So I thought, wow, she, I need her wrinkle cream.
- 12:01Sydney: But good for her.
- 12:04Sydney: I mean it was a few years ago, it was a pre.
- 12:13ERic: COVID, though.
- 12:14ERic: So it is, I don't know five years of aging our lives.
- 12:18Sydney: Yeah, basically, and I thought that it was kind of funny how they had those Gen Z guys in the lobby.
- 12:28Sydney: What I understand, and, towards the end, why they were there, when I first saw them at the rehearsal dinner was like why are those kids are, but I like to their use of their husband.
- 12:41Sydney: That is a very Gen Z term and I have to say like one of the highlights for me is I just really love Goldie's relationship with her husband.
- 12:55Sydney: I know it's not true to the book version of things at all, but I just love it so much.
- 13:01Sydney: I think that they make like this really unique and refreshing team, like when they do collaborate on stuff and I don't know.
- 13:10Sydney: I just it's refreshing to see that, because the usual depiction of of divorced people is not nice.
- 13:18Sydney: It's and while I will say this, yeah, this is, this is a hallmark spin on things, because this isn't the normal case, but it is a nice thing to see.
- 13:27Sydney: But and also are you?
- 13:31ERic: are you, but are you just sort of maybe taint a little bit because you like, like I don't know, I don't?
- 13:36Sydney: know so much, I know I still love him from my way to Chicks days.
- 13:41ERic: But like I.
- 13:43ERic: I did some other dude playing him.
- 13:48Sydney: He plays.
- 13:48ERic: Maybe they're like Brennan Elliott or Victor Webster.
- 13:52Sydney: I think I think that would be like he'd be too hot then I like how he's kind of goofy, like it's yeah, I mean we don't need to relive his terrible kiss like if he gets another girlfriend, let's just you know.
- 14:07ERic: But I think we're going around.
- 14:09ERic: We're going around town about kissing and so no one will date him.
- 14:13ERic: Now, that's what I heard at least.
- 14:16Sydney: I mean I can see why.
- 14:18Sydney: But the other extremely refreshing thing and this ties back to Hannah is that Goldie is not a freak about asking invasive questions.
- 14:30Sydney: She's like a reasonable level of nosy and I think that that's.
- 14:37Sydney: It's just so much easier for me to like take someone who's following people around their house and it's strange.
- 14:47Sydney: And I also liked how Goldie said to Tom that he had flower on his face but like he, it was just because his his, his gray hair, he didn't have any flower on his face.
- 15:03Sydney: I don't blame her, but there was no flower.
- 15:07Sydney: And then, of course, the two wedding dresses at the end.
- 15:11Sydney: That was very comical and I liked that.
- 15:13Sydney: What about?
- 15:14ERic: you I I did like how Goldie and Tom progressed to the end where you know the relationship is making that progress that we want to see.
- 15:30ERic: Notice episode three, which I'll get into later when we talk about the steam meter.
- 15:34ERic: But I also thought it was kind of a fun little twist because we always have sort of then you know, the nosy busy body, baker caterer, whoever, librarian, who's going around and and you know, solving these crimes and breaking the laws, and the detective is the, you know the by the book one.
- 15:57ERic: Well, in this one, because Tom got his badge taken away, he essentially turned into that type of character because he had to be going around doing all that you know, sleuthing off the books, kind of stuff, and it was a really fun twist that they did they.
- 16:14ERic: Also the other twist that I liked was bringing in nemesis detective track and we find out like Marla may like the bad boys.
- 16:25ERic: So I thought that was you know, there's some things about it either there, but the overall bringing in the like the nemesis and all of that.
- 16:38ERic: I found that a fun little twist as well.
- 16:40ERic: One of the big things too was Mason.
- 16:43ERic: We've complained and complained, complained about how basically he's an incompetent, buffoon character in this one I thought it was dialed back and he seemed he was still had some humor, but he did not seem like a completely incompetent detective out there.
- 17:02ERic: So and of course, like he said, it was the third episode, so we are getting more character development, obviously with across the board, and so that's good, and we know we've got two more to come.
- 17:14ERic: So that makes me, makes me happy that that we're progressing down the curious Kader road.
- 17:22Sydney: Yeah, and Marla had some cute zingers, like when he gave her a tip and she was like I'll just put these towards my Gucci shoes.
- 17:30ERic: Right, so it wasn't until the end.
- 17:33ERic: Yeah, it was that sort of you know, opposite or not opposites.
- 17:38ERic: But where the unexpected chemistry of them?
- 17:42ERic: Because they did not seem to be liking each other.
- 17:45Sydney: Mm-hmm yeah.
- 17:47ERic: Well, she made.
- 17:48ERic: She made just like the bad boy.
- 17:49ERic: All right, what was it that you didn't like about fatal vows?
- 17:54Sydney: Okay, Well, well.
- 17:56ERic: Aaron, do I need to settle in?
- 17:59Sydney: I'm glad you asked.
- 18:00ERic: I'll settle in.
- 18:01ERic: I'll have a sip of my wedding cake.
- 18:03ERic: Wedding cake.
- 18:04ERic: Yeah, maybe I'll have to make another one.
- 18:07Sydney: Yeah.
- 18:07Sydney: So I found that the fight at the rehearsal dinner was just kind of awkward, like the way it was played out felt really awkward to me.
- 18:16Sydney: I thought that Sterling played a drunk really badly, which I mean I think it's hard to play a drunk anyway, so I kind of don't fault him for it.
- 18:23Sydney: But Sterling was just.
- 18:25Sydney: I know Goldie was kept saying like oh, I've never had any issues with him.
- 18:28Sydney: He didn't seem like a nice guy.
- 18:30Sydney: He seemed like smart me and like he stole a lot of people's money and he all of a sudden shows back up in that town where Well, his dad that stole the money technically.
- 18:41Sydney: Yeah, but he's benefited from that stolen money and he has no shame.
- 18:45Sydney: And I thought gross.
- 18:49Sydney: And you bring up Mason.
- 18:53Sydney: I do think that his cluelessness was not as pronounced as usual, so it was more palatable, but it was still like a level of annoying where I thought this guy is not a detective.
- 19:06Sydney: Also, is he always been a detective or was he like just promoted to one?
- 19:12ERic: Well, he was just promoted because if he Well, I don't know, because remember in the very first one he seemed to gotten bumped up to something, maybe like junior detective, I don't know.
- 19:21ERic: So maybe now he's a detective, detective, All right.
- 19:26ERic: So you thought he was still.
- 19:27ERic: You found him, like why.
- 19:28ERic: I said, okay, I found him okay.
- 19:30ERic: And you still found him annoying.
- 19:32Sydney: It was toned down, I will give it that, like someone must have said like okay, he's acting so ridiculous, like there's no way he's playing a detective.
- 19:42Sydney: So they did tone it down.
- 19:44Sydney: But he was he.
- 19:46Sydney: You know, a detective would have, I think, more instinct on some of this stuff and he was just kind of still acting a little bit like a buffoon.
- 19:54Sydney: But it was definitely more tolerable.
- 19:58Sydney: And that ground search scene where, like they're in a forest and then are looking for what's her face, I'm like where did the forest come from?
- 20:08Sydney: Is the forest behind the hotel?
- 20:10Sydney: Or where did they get this forest from?
- 20:13Sydney: I don't know, it seemed out of place to me.
- 20:17ERic: I don't know.
- 20:18ERic: It all starts with wind, blows and bees bring pollen and seeds go all around oh.
- 20:25Sydney: Eric, not literally, okay.
- 20:29Sydney: But and then when we see Jessamine for the first time in that barn and she wakes up and she's tied up, her hands are at a length, they're free enough and her fingers themselves aren't bound that she could have just gone like this.
- 20:48Sydney: I actually rewound it just to make sure.
- 20:52Sydney: And she can, she just could have taken her tape down.
- 20:56ERic: And I thought she was in shock.
- 20:59Sydney: I guess that, but she could pull it together.
- 21:01Sydney: And also, tom tried to school Goldie on interrogation, saying she was terrible at it, when actuality he was terrible at it.
- 21:14Sydney: In the house setting when he is trying to interrogate is it like Jamie's stepfather?
- 21:22Sydney: That didn't go well from the get go and right away he was very hostile and strange and I thought how can you be telling Goldie she sucks at this when you really suck at it?
- 21:37ERic: Well, I just find it weird how like they do that and they just sort of like go from hostile to friendly to hostile to friendly with the family.
- 21:45Sydney: So they're back at the house.
- 21:48ERic: I think you would be like banished from the house.
- 21:49Sydney: but he has like this strange, like almost accusatory tone Most of the time.
- 21:58Sydney: I find, like in the series, like most of the time he's kind of being accusatory of people and I think, whoa, let's tone it down.
- 22:08ERic: I don't know Detective time.
- 22:12Sydney: And I thought it was kind of funny that Goldie said she whipped up those three different types of crackers.
- 22:19Sydney: Do you remember this?
- 22:21ERic: the cracker yeah.
- 22:23Sydney: It's like two of those are Cheez-its and then the other one is Cheez-it Grooves.
- 22:26Sydney: Let's not, as someone who loves a cracker, I know what these are.
- 22:32ERic: Goldie knows how to cook it or bake them, so they look like that.
- 22:35ERic: I know they did look extremely like a Cheez-it, but that was Goldie's handiwork.
- 22:43ERic: She's very talented, you know.
- 22:45Sydney: Right, okay, and then I definitely don't like Detective Track for Marla he's and I said, and I quote, he's a fart.
- 22:55Sydney: And then in the end all we get is a dessert metaphor no freaking kiss.
- 23:02Sydney: Again, I'm like nothing.
- 23:05Sydney: What is this?
- 23:07Sydney: Nothing, not a peck, not on the forehead, not on the or just longingly looking at each other Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 23:17ERic: a peck in the forehead would have been worse than what it was.
- 23:22ERic: That is like, yeah, peck in the I don't even know what peck in the forehead is, like what you do to the person you don't like, or something as you bit them off to like a Titanic, a person you don't like, you don't talk to, Like you're giving someone a goodbye kiss while you hop in the life raft and they're still in the Tannock, like by Han.
- 23:41Sydney: Well, don't worry, if that was the case, goldie and Tom would just tell each other a dessert and say goodbye, there would be no kiss, they'd be the band playing the violin as it's sinking.
- 23:51Sydney: She'd be giving everyone food sinking.
- 23:56Sydney: Okay, what about you?
- 23:58Sydney: What did you not like?
- 24:03ERic: I found the rehearsal dinner and it's beginning the whole thing they just way through way too many characters and everything that was a little too similar all at once.
- 24:13ERic: So I was like scrambling, trying to keep track of who's this guy now, who's this one?
- 24:18ERic: Wait, but is that the boyfriend?
- 24:21ERic: Now?
- 24:21ERic: Is that the whoever?
- 24:22ERic: And I know we met Chester before but I still didn't remember him because he looks like they all look alike anyhow too.
- 24:29ERic: So I was like who's who, who's who?
- 24:31ERic: So I was just whatever.
- 24:33ERic: It was a little overwhelming.
- 24:36ERic: And I know in the British ones we like, especially Agatha Christie, they do a whole bunch of characters but they sort of evolve them into you versus this one just seemed like we're just gonna put them in the yacht sea cup and there we go, suspects galore.
- 24:51ERic: The other thing is I just overall and one of the things I liked especially about girling season was it just sort of had a charm to it and I think this took a big step back and it just didn't have that charm where, with the pretty murder board or Marla going out and singing to distract while Goldie is breaking in the house, Whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 25:22Sydney: She has the most beautiful murder board in this one.
- 25:26ERic: But it was beautiful, but it wasn't the charm of having like doing the maze, like the whole thing, like that was a redemption of the Mason thing, which wasn't any redemption, but they went through and they made the thing at the police station right, whereas Goldie can do it at her home and of course she's fancy-dancy so she can do it all there.
- 25:46ERic: But so I just, like I said, I just thought it lacked the charm.
- 25:51ERic: So you could tell, I think it was.
- 25:54ERic: There were definitely good things, but then there was one of the things I just thought from having the different writers was I just think some of that charm that JCP had developed took a big step back.
- 26:07ERic: And then, talking about a big step back, marla and Goldie's relationship that was the thing I probably liked most about grilling season and in this one, yeah, they still are BFFs and there still are some scenes, but it just wasn't that hey, we're going to, you're going to jail, okay, I'm gonna be sitting there next to you, kind of thing, and that was just so much fun in the second one.
- 26:33ERic: So I just thought while they still were there it just we said that Marla excuse me, goldie and Detective Tom kind of advance.
- 26:44ERic: Their relationship, marla and Goldie, I think kind of just remained a little stagnant from where they could have gone.
- 26:50ERic: Now they stored nice together and lovely together and individually wonderful.
- 26:55ERic: So it wasn't anything but their performances.
- 26:57ERic: I just think story could have progressed, their friendship a little bit more so.
- 27:04ERic: I agree kind of with you.
- 27:06ERic: Like I said, we'll talk about it later on some of the weird things of the of just the ship, the movie.
- 27:15ERic: All right, let's get into quality of the mystery.
- 27:21ERic: I know you already talked about how she's bound and yet could easily tear the duct tape off with her teeth, considering her hands are right there in front of her.
- 27:32ERic: But what about the rest?
- 27:35Sydney: I mean like from the get go.
- 27:37Sydney: I have to say that opening to the movie and how Jessamine behaved, I was so terrible.
- 27:46Sydney: I thought does anyone really care that she's missing right now?
- 27:49Sydney: Does this really matter?
- 27:52Sydney: It's?
- 27:52Sydney: collective sigh like yeah, but also Goldie has to get paid.
- 27:59Sydney: So it makes sense when, like initially assessing the crime scene, they say like her hotel room, they say oh, there's like a sign of.
- 28:15Sydney: It seems like there's signs of struggle in her hotel room.
- 28:18Sydney: But that's a stretch, because when you have ladies or besties getting ready together it will look like a bomb went off in there.
- 28:29ERic: I will tell you, I'm not sure who's probably like going through 17 outfits for everything, whatever.
- 28:35ERic: So I hear you.
- 28:37Sydney: Yeah, and for me, like the mysterious detective track with his simplistic taste in black coffee.
- 28:45Sydney: I just hate this character trope or they use it for detectives all the time where they're like oh, he's a no frills type of guy, he's used backward methods, oh he's like dark and swarthy or something.
- 29:00Sydney: I'm just over it.
- 29:02Sydney: I'm like this guy is actually just a jerk and he did use backward methods and he's actually not a good police officer because he just takes like the lowest hanging fruit and thinks that's it.
- 29:15Sydney: You know, and I found him just.
- 29:21ERic: I just could have done like that.
- 29:22ERic: That's the basic in Aurora Tea Garden.
- 29:28Sydney: I'm like, oh, I let.
- 29:29Sydney: No, he is wait a minute.
- 29:31Sydney: This guy can not hold a handle.
- 29:34Sydney: This guy has a dad bod under that shirt and also the DNA would not come back that quickly on that candlestick saying it was just a means.
- 29:44ERic: It always comes back, though, in TV movies, like within 15 minutes.
- 29:48Sydney: I know I was like no, this is not believable.
- 29:53ERic: They have a DNA kid out in the car that they can just run it in.
- 29:59Sydney: And they just happen to have her DNA and like I don't know.
- 30:04Sydney: So there were little things like that where I'm being nitpicky, but it all adds up and I kind of just yeah, what about you?
- 30:12ERic: That's kind of what I had, that these things kind of didn't really make sense and there's a whole bunch of little things that, just like you said, added up one here.
- 30:23ERic: There it's Hallmark, it's what it is, that we know we have to suspend our belief and sometimes the reality.
- 30:32ERic: But, like you say, when you just keep getting it again and again and again and again and again, it kind of is like okay, okay, okay, okay, whatever, which to me just seemed, I guess the director, I guess I would fall on it, just seemed a little lazy to me.
- 30:47ERic: But yeah, and I found the actual mystery a little disappointing, because as soon as they brought up the whole cake and the tree nut, you're like, okay, someone's dying of that tree nut allergy, right?
- 31:06ERic: So sorry, everyone's spoiler, but it just to me within 20 minutes I'm like, okay, that's it, it wasn't even.
- 31:18ERic: I've talked about Mystery 101, how I usually I figure out the formula and I can figure it out, but it's not like it requires a little bit of effort, and this one was just sort of handed to you a nice avocado toast on a golden platter, essentially.
- 31:37ERic: So I just found the mystery too simple.
- 31:43Sydney: Yeah.
- 31:44ERic: Yeah, so you know, I still am entertained by characters throughout it, but the mystery itself, yeah, I just didn't, didn't enjoy it.
- 31:53ERic: And the whole Jessamine, like what's the point of kidnapping her?
- 31:57ERic: What are you?
- 31:58ERic: What are you going to do?
- 31:59ERic: You're, you're going to kidnap her.
- 32:00ERic: You got to kill her, right, like, or you can't let her go.
- 32:03ERic: Like I don't even know what the whole point of kidnapping her would have been.
- 32:07Sydney: So it didn't really make sense.
- 32:10ERic: Maybe afterwards have a nice conversation and explain what happened and then Jessamine be like okay, never mind, I won't tell the authorities.
- 32:19Sydney: She was saving her from another failed marriage, I mean that's true.
- 32:24ERic: That's true.
- 32:25ERic: He would have been a.
- 32:26ERic: He would have been like the Richard Dr Richard from the Curious Caterer books.
- 32:32Sydney: Hmm.
- 32:35ERic: Okay, Our body counts.
- 32:36ERic: Kind of interesting because while we had one dead person, did we really did we have a murder?
- 32:46Sydney: Yeah, it seemed well she was, I feel like.
- 32:50Sydney: I feel like there was an attempt on one and then the other one was maybe accidental, I'm not, yeah.
- 33:01ERic: I mean yeah.
- 33:02ERic: There was like a man slaughter.
- 33:04ERic: How's that?
- 33:05Sydney: Yeah.
- 33:06ERic: I mean, I'm not a lawyer, but I think that I've watched enough whatever crime movies to think that's what it is.
- 33:12Sydney: If you've seen in a law and order, then you're a lawyer, okay.
- 33:17ERic: Well, that's how I get my work.
- 33:18ERic: I have to film Dennis talking about other procedures and I'm pretty much convinced I could do it if it wasn't for the actual doing it.
- 33:25ERic: Yeah, I could.
- 33:26ERic: I could be at a cocktail party and talk a mean game and probably convince most people.
- 33:30ERic: I'm a dentist.
- 33:31Sydney: But Should do that Okay.
- 33:35ERic: I had one man slaughter and a kidnapping.
- 33:39Sydney: Yeah, attempted to possibly.
- 33:42ERic: Yeah, all right, you ready to talk style?
- 33:47Sydney: I am ready.
- 33:48Sydney: Does anyone know?
- 33:49Sydney: Was this?
- 33:50ERic: style, a savior for you.
- 33:52Sydney: I mean, yeah, actually probably Does anyone know it was that seven layer cake reel.
- 33:59Sydney: Was it actually real or were they just pretending to frost like paper?
- 34:03ERic: No, no, no.
- 34:04ERic: What do you think?
- 34:06ERic: I'll ask a JC.
- 34:10Sydney: Because that it seemed intense, but I thought it was really beautiful.
- 34:16ERic: You know she did say when we talked, though that's one of the things she liked about the movies was they actually did have a fantastic baker or whatever on the sets who made a lot of the food, especially like the first one and she was kept shouting on that.
- 34:32ERic: So maybe the cake was real and after the scene they all sat down and ate it.
- 34:37Sydney: I don't know, or maybe like the bottom one is, and then, just like the top, like four layers, I don't know.
- 34:45Sydney: And at the rehearsal dinner, I'll be honest, at the rehearsal dinner I felt like they could have given our girl, marla, a better dress.
- 34:54Sydney: Okay, goldie looked fabulous and they were had Marla dressed like a stewardess.
- 35:00Sydney: It was a little lacking, you know, for Marla.
- 35:06Sydney: She deserves to have those Gucci heels and a fancy dress.
- 35:12Sydney: The band of Bestie's jackets were like were interesting.
- 35:21Sydney: I thought it was a unique concept because I really haven't seen that as far as Bachelorette's go or Bridesmaids.
- 35:28Sydney: It was interesting.
- 35:29Sydney: I like the whole Pink Lady concept kind of thing.
- 35:32Sydney: I thought the Clue board was adorable and maybe the best one of this movie season so far.
- 35:41ERic: I get you.
- 35:42Sydney: Flowers and the vines.
- 35:43ERic: Right, I get you, I get you.
- 35:46ERic: But she had, like I said, it just didn't have.
- 35:50ERic: It was cute and it was nice and all that.
- 35:53ERic: It just didn't have the charm of coming in the police station and doing it.
- 35:56ERic: I guess that's what I'm getting at.
- 35:58ERic: You expected in Goldie's residence to have that.
- 36:02ERic: But to have it at the police station is a whole other story.
- 36:05Sydney: Yeah.
- 36:07ERic: So I get you.
- 36:08Sydney: And then Goldie's fashion has progressively become better.
- 36:11Sydney: She always has looked good, but I feel like it's more developed now.
- 36:17Sydney: I felt like the olive trench coat was a beautiful addition.
- 36:24Sydney: Yeah, 2023,.
- 36:26ERic: Man, the year of the trench coat.
- 36:29Sydney: I think so and hopefully Wardrobe let the actress who played Jessamine keep one of those Jessamine shirts as a souvenir when they were searching.
- 36:41Sydney: It's like Jessamine and then Lucas, the boy that Goldie's daughter likes, has the best 90s boy dreamboat hair.
- 36:53Sydney: It was giving Devon.
- 36:55Sydney: Sawa, it was giving Justin or JTT from Home Improvement.
- 37:01Sydney: It was giving the 90s with the little.
- 37:04Sydney: You know I can't explain it, but I live there.
- 37:07ERic: I know what you're talking about.
- 37:09Sydney: Yes, so I'm here for that.
- 37:11Sydney: What about you?
- 37:12Sydney: Were you out with style?
- 37:14ERic: So what I missed was Marla and Goldie in those like the catering outfits that they had in the grilling season.
- 37:25Sydney: I don't remember.
- 37:28ERic: Did they have that when they were first redoing the cake?
- 37:30ERic: And they were there?
- 37:32Sydney: Yeah.
- 37:32ERic: All right, I guess they showed them, but I don't know.
- 37:35ERic: They just seemed more.
- 37:38ERic: It just seemed more in grilling season and I kind of passed it.
- 37:41ERic: So it was a brief scene.
- 37:42ERic: I would like to see more of those.
- 37:44ERic: But to you, yeah, the reception I thought the reception played well.
- 37:49ERic: I loved Goldie, as you said.
- 37:51ERic: Her throughout played well.
- 37:54ERic: Track was kind of a character of the bad cop kind of thing, so I'll give you that.
- 38:03ERic: And then also there's where Tom was wearing the brown shirt and to me he looked like he was some 1950s prisoner or something like that.
- 38:20ERic: So it just you know brown on brown or whatever it was.
- 38:23ERic: Just I don't know His wardrobe I think needs and maybe it's his character, I don't know His wardrobe needs something to happen to it because I think he's shopping at, like I don't know, mervins or something like that to get his clothes.
- 38:42ERic: I don't know he needs Goldie, he needs Goldie to step in and take over.
- 38:48ERic: Say, this is episode four, this is how it's going to roll.
- 38:56Sydney: And then the last.
- 38:57Sydney: Thing.
- 38:57ERic: I'll say and it's critical because the woman is just beautiful but, nikki, when she does her straight across bangs, not a fan of that.
- 39:09Sydney: Look the little side bang thing when it's got the little part going all over it, but when it's just the straight across bangs, oh, eric, if you know how hard it was to get those straight across bangs, you know they don't even move with her and they look, they look so good.
- 39:31Sydney: But coming from someone who's had bangs.
- 39:34Sydney: It's so hard to get it not to like do this in the middle, and then you have you.
- 39:40Sydney: Well, I should have just kept it.
- 39:43ERic: Like I say, when it has that little side swipe going to it, it looks great.
- 39:48ERic: But I just, I don't know, I'm just not a fan of that.
- 39:52ERic: Now give me the curtain bangs from Marla All day, every day.
- 39:59Sydney: Yes, we know, we know.
- 40:05ERic: Take a moment and just reflect on her for a moment.
- 40:07ERic: Okay, let's move on into the ratings.
- 40:10ERic: Steam, steam, steam.
- 40:13ERic: What do we have for steam?
- 40:16Sydney: I'd say dribble, dribble, dribble.
- 40:17Sydney: This is a four for me.
- 40:19Sydney: The most of the steam that comes from that dribble is probably Jessamine and Sterling, who were like all over each other at the rehearsal dinner when they weren't fighting.
- 40:29ERic: Before he goes and hits on the is ex girlfriend.
- 40:33Sydney: Yeah.
- 40:34ERic: All right, I, as a little friendlier there, I gave it a six because they definitely were progressing.
- 40:41ERic: There was the moments like when they did the ridiculous, find the key to reenactment and finding the the rental keys In the parking lot scene.
- 40:53ERic: But when you know they're reenacting and she's like right into him and this is where we'll kind of like nothing, it wasn't like it was the tension building.
- 41:01ERic: but then you know what, like I said, it's third episode, that's the third date.
- 41:05ERic: That should be like the third date rule.
- 41:07ERic: You know this is hallmark.
- 41:08ERic: So she should be putting out with a kiss.
- 41:10ERic: There should have been a kiss at the end.
- 41:12ERic: Yeah it really should look when they ask in the date were you going to date with me?
- 41:16ERic: Yes, here's my 70 minute long.
- 41:19ERic: I'm going to put a little bit of a key on baking and then smooth, smooth.
- 41:23ERic: Should have been, Should have been, could have been.
- 41:29Sydney: All right.
- 41:29ERic: What do you think about the story?
- 41:32Sydney: The story is six because it was interesting, but you know.
- 41:37ERic: I gave it a five.
- 41:38ERic: Same thing.
- 41:39ERic: There are a lot of the red herrings in there, but I didn't like think any of them were too convincing.
- 41:45ERic: There are way too many little plot holes through it.
- 41:49ERic: So and one big thing and it was it bugged me in the previous one and it just 10 times bugged me more is how is Jessamine and Tom ever a couple?
- 42:02ERic: They just what world could they not just dated but got married.
- 42:12Sydney: It didn't make sense to me.
- 42:15ERic: Right, unless maybe Tom was a raging alcoholic and he seems to be what she likes so and he had no idea what he was doing.
- 42:22ERic: He just woke up, you know, after night in Mexico, and he was married to her.
- 42:26Sydney: Yeah, he could have been a big part of Europe in San Francisco.
- 42:31ERic: Little that whatever Tom was doing, the white stuff and that's what track has over him.
- 42:37ERic: Okay.
- 42:39Sydney: I could still doing it, so it was a good point.
- 42:43ERic: He's stealing it from his, from his collars.
- 42:46ERic: Okay, the mystery.
- 42:50Sydney: I gave it a six.
- 42:52ERic: Okay, I gave it a five, with one word predictable.
- 42:55ERic: Okay, moving on to the acting.
- 43:00Sydney: I gave it an eight.
- 43:02ERic: I'm above you a little bit.
- 43:03ERic: I gave it a nine because Tom, goldie, marla and Dr Richard, they all bring it, they all bring it and carry everybody else along with them.
- 43:15Sydney: So I just could not stand sterling or sterling, sterling.
- 43:19Sydney: Depiction.
- 43:21ERic: She's only in it for five minutes.
- 43:23Sydney: Oh, he leaves an impression.
- 43:27ERic: Yeah, and I can't stand track.
- 43:29ERic: His little death scene, though was pretty good, is dumbling around and then falling into the fountain.
- 43:35ERic: So yeah that was pretty good, all right Style.
- 43:43Sydney: I didn't eat for that.
- 43:45ERic: I was low below you at the seven Can't you know the year the trench coat.
- 43:50ERic: So I have to say, yeah, I think that was a good one.
- 43:57ERic: You mentioned earlier to wedding dresses.
- 44:00ERic: That was awesome, it was so and that was probably the best line and I don't remember exactly what it was.
- 44:07ERic: But when they rescue her and she's like you're going to wear that to my wedding, and then she's just getting, you know, being kidnapped, tied up and then rescued, and then that's the first thing that that you that you focus on is what someone was going to wear to your wedding.
- 44:23Sydney: But she would.
- 44:25ERic: Who is he keeping?
- 44:25ERic: Oh, just a minute.
- 44:26ERic: Oh wait, she lives.
- 44:29ERic: I mean, she may be in the fourth one.
- 44:31ERic: Let's hope not.
- 44:33Sydney: Oh she will.
- 44:33Sydney: She doesn't ever disappear for long enough, I should say.
- 44:39ERic: What is yours, add up to and a 32 as well.
- 44:43ERic: We kind of got to the same.
- 44:45ERic: Wow, a little different, a little different way, but we got to the same place 64.
- 44:50Sydney: So 64 is it's okay.
- 44:55ERic: It's, yeah, it's continuation, but not worth a second watch.
- 44:59Sydney: That's right.
- 45:01ERic: No, I will say, like I always say, I watch movies twice.
- 45:03ERic: The first time I just watch it to enjoy.
- 45:05ERic: In the second time I watch through and I take notes.
- 45:08ERic: I just was like, no, I'm good with the one view You're one and done.
- 45:14ERic: Yeah.
- 45:15Sydney: It's a shame.
- 45:17ERic: So shame, and I definitely want a fourth one.
- 45:19Sydney: So I want to see I'm sure it's not going anywhere, eric's, don't worry.
- 45:23Sydney: Yes.
- 45:26ERic: Okay, well, there we go.
- 45:27ERic: Federal vows yeah, so all right.
- 45:34ERic: Well, next week is going to be exciting, because we did not, because of the craziness of life, did not get our episode up last week, so we will be having our Halloween edition.
- 45:54Sydney: Ooh, spooky.
- 45:56ERic: Where we will be talking about some movies you could watch on Halloween.
- 46:02Sydney: Yeah, but these aren't.
- 46:05Sydney: These aren't movies where it's going to be like just your run of the mill gross Halloween movie.
- 46:11Sydney: Their thought for the game once.
- 46:13ERic: Oh, you don't have soft for on your list.
- 46:16Sydney: No, Eric, didn't you get my memo.
- 46:20ERic: I trust me, I do not watch those movies, so it would not be on my list.
- 46:25Sydney: I can't, although.
- 46:27Sydney: Have you have you?
- 46:28Sydney: Do you have Netflix?
- 46:29Sydney: Have you seen any of the promos for that one?
- 46:33Sydney: That's?
- 46:34Sydney: That's like a mini series called the fall of the house of usher.
- 46:40ERic: No, okay, that one looks spooky but I guess it is it usher usher.
- 46:47Sydney: No no it's like Edgar Allen Poe.
- 46:50ERic: Okay.
- 46:52Sydney: That looks sufficiently spooky.
- 46:54Sydney: I think it does have some gore to it, but it has like pretty good reviews so far and he whoever wrote it has really intertwined the whole Edgar Allen Poe theme really well into it.
- 47:09Sydney: So I don't know, I guess if you're into gore, maybe that's a thing, okay, but no, not saw for.
- 47:18ERic: All right, should we wrap up?
- 47:21Sydney: Yeah, I think so.
- 47:23ERic: Okay, well, until next time Sydney.
- 47:27Sydney: Until then, eric, see ya.
- 47:30ERic: See ya.
- 47:34Sydney: Food.
