Latest / Brandon Fogal Evolution / #117 - Canada's Playing Hard to Get: Will Trump Put a Ring on It?
Transcript
- 0:00Oh, Canada. Should Canada become the 51st state of the United States of America?
- 0:09Trump, President Trump is being very persistent in his pursuant of Canada.
- 0:16And Canada is playing really hard to get, it seems like.
- 0:20But should Trump continue to pursue this relationship? That seems like it's not going to happen.
- 0:26My name is Brandon Fogel. This is Evolution. let's dive into this. I love Canada.
- 0:32I really do love Canada. And I was looking up Canada's national anthem.
- 0:37And so there is a lot of history and pride with Canadians as any country.
- 0:43I mean, I mean, it does seem like any, any people that come to the United States,
- 0:48they always carry that, that badge of honor of their, where they came from and
- 0:54there'll be flying their own flags.
- 0:57And even though they're sometimes trying to escape where they came from to get
- 1:00here, they still have that love of their country.
- 1:03There are so many things that go into this dynamic of Canada and the United
- 1:07States. Could it be a good idea?
- 1:09Whatever you think on it, Trump is very dead set on this happening.
- 1:14And I see it as almost his viewpoint of the if I can say the right word, Louisiana Purchase.
- 1:23That was a monumental event in American history in that deal going down.
- 1:30I mean, and just like just getting land in itself is always tends to work out for any country.
- 1:37Us taking on Alaska, us getting Hawaii and all the different places, it's good to have land.
- 1:44That's why the constitution, it started off like the pursuit of land.
- 1:49We've changed it to the pursuit of happiness, but it started off the pursuit of land.
- 1:55But Canada is not just land. I think of Canada and I think of it,
- 1:59they got so much going for them and they got so many great resources,
- 2:05but they got so many great people.
- 2:08I think of any person that's out there that is in Hollywood or that is in in
- 2:14show business, they always turn out to be Canadian.
- 2:17They're always from Canada, always.
- 2:20And I'm always like, dang, they're Canadian.
- 2:23And I mean, that's cool. That's cool. But I wish I didn't have to say that.
- 2:27I wish that every funny actor and every awesome actor that is out there or actress,
- 2:31I didn't have to say, man, why couldn't they have been born in the United States?
- 2:35There's something that they got in the water up there that they just produce
- 2:38the funniest, hilarious people imaginable.
- 2:41I go to the movie, The Proposal, if you've seen that, with Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock.
- 2:47And this is very apropos for this situation we got going on,
- 2:52except it's all flipped.
- 2:54Ryan Reynolds in the movie, he's American from Alaska.
- 2:59But in real life, he's Canadian. Sandra Bullock, on the other hand,
- 3:03in the movie, she's Canadian.
- 3:05But in real life, she's American. It has nothing to do with the plot at all.
- 3:09And I'm just reading into it.
- 3:11But in itself, he has to make her, to be able to stay in the United States,
- 3:16he has to go and propose to her so that she is a citizen of the United States
- 3:21and so she doesn't get deported. It's an hilarious movie.
- 3:25But in this in this dynamic we got going with
- 3:28president trump and canada and
- 3:31now we have the new prime minister and i'm gonna
- 3:34show a short clip of that in a second but he he is in all seriousness that trump
- 3:41can be he is on his knee proposing for the world to see he he is saying never
- 3:47say never canada and it might take many proposals to get to get that ring on the finger but it's,
- 3:54it could happen. And I think it could happen.
- 3:58But in the movie, Ryan Reynolds, he has to propose to Sandra Bullock to get
- 4:03her to stay in the United States. And it's hilarious.
- 4:06Everything's flipped on its head. But in the end, he gets the girl. He gets the girl.
- 4:12And I might've spoiled it for everyone who wants to go out and there to see it.
- 4:15But I mean, if you love those type of movies, you pretty much expect it.
- 4:20And everything in that movie is all like kind of twisted. She's kind of mean and all that.
- 4:24Is that what's going on here with Canada? They just, it's all topsy-turvy and
- 4:30nothing makes sense in this world, but nothing makes sense in this.
- 4:34Canada did not see this coming.
- 4:36Nobody saw this coming, but it's the best thing in the world that would be for
- 4:41the United States, I believe.
- 4:43And we're just going to have to convince Canada that it's the best thing for them as well.
- 4:47So in this video, so we have the new prime minister of Canada sitting down with
- 4:52Trump, and he starts it off with, some things are not for sale,
- 4:56but Trump is going to say, never say never.
- 4:59As you know from real estate, there are some places that are never for sale.
- 5:03That's true. We're sitting in one right now, Buckingham Palace that you visited as well.
- 5:07That's true. And having met with the owners of Canada over the course of the
- 5:11campaign last several months, it's not for sale, won't be for sale ever.
- 5:16But the opportunity is in the partnership and what we can build together.
- 5:21And we have done that in the past.
- 5:22And part of that, as the president just said, is with respect to our own security.
- 5:27And my government is committed for a step change in our investment in Canadian
- 5:33security and our partnership.
- 5:35And I'll say this as well, that the president has revitalized international
- 5:39security, revitalized NATO, and us playing our full weight in NATO.
- 5:43And that will be part of the issue.
- 5:45And they have, I must say, Canada is stepping up the military participation
- 5:51because, Mark, you know, they were low and now they're stepping it up.
- 5:54And that's a very important thing.
- 5:56But never say never. Never say never. Never say never.
- 5:59Never say never. Could this actually happen? I think it's going to take some time.
- 6:04And I think the pressure that Donald Trump is putting on Canada,
- 6:08and he's going to, we can't get inside Trump's mind, and he is a poker player.
- 6:13He is always never showing his cards.
- 6:16He never shows what his end game is, really. He says it in a number of different
- 6:21ways of what he wants to put out there and make people think, it seems like.
- 6:25But I think he really does want Canada.
- 6:28He really does. He's serious about this. The same way he's serious about Greenland.
- 6:32Because they are, would be very huge allies.
- 6:37And if they become a part of the United States, I would say they got the best
- 6:41thing going for them. The best thing going for them.
- 6:43And like, will this eventually kind of lead on to the UK?
- 6:47Can we bring some, can we bring down the barriers that once time,
- 6:52like I said, the UK, Britain, you know, that, because that would be the next thing on the horizon.
- 6:57Can, is there a way that these lines can come down?
- 7:00And we're not pursuing everyone. We're not just saying everybody,
- 7:03but I'd say Trump is for, for countries that have a lot to bring to the table
- 7:10and who we really care about and who we really want to get involved with.
- 7:15And he's going to put a lot of pressure on him and on this, on their,
- 7:19on their country and on their economy.
- 7:21And I think the reason he's throwing up these tariffs because he wants to see
- 7:25them kind of do it themselves and see if they can get along because I think
- 7:31that they're going to struggle.
- 7:33They're going to struggle as a number of other countries in the world are going
- 7:37to struggle if they don't play ball with the United States.
- 7:39But we're not asking everyone to be our wife that is out there.
- 7:43We're only asking a select group, a select few and Canada is one of them.
- 7:51One of them and they would be a huge for the United States.
- 7:54Absolutely huge. But what do you think? Do you think this would be a good idea?
- 7:57Do you think this is possible?
- 7:59Could this happen? What would change if it did happen?
- 8:03Would we be, would we be biting off a lot more than we could chew?
- 8:07Would we, because a lot of people in Canada, they're not conservative, it seems like.
- 8:14In a lot of ways they have very, they have the ways they do things, socialized medicine.
- 8:19They have like the way they do help their health system. And I'm okay with,
- 8:24I think I would be okay with that.
- 8:27I'm good with that. So I think we could bring certain elements that are great
- 8:31over there and certain elements that we have and bring them together.
- 8:36You know, they wouldn't immediately change or upend them, but they would have a voting power.
- 8:41They would have a voting power, a huge voting power, you could say.
- 8:46The 51st state, are you kidding me? That would be Texas, Alaska,
- 8:53California on steroids.
- 8:55Because, I mean, I'm just looking at it from a map perspective.
- 8:59Canada is freaking huge. It's huge. So we're not just saying let them become
- 9:04the next 51st to 60 states, like let's break them all apart.
- 9:09No, the 51st state, that would be massive. And I think it would be awesome.
- 9:15So Canada, keep playing hard to get, whatever, that's the way you got to be.
- 9:21But I think you should come on board. I think you should join the party.
- 9:26But this is life.
- 9:30Guys got to pursue their women. guys got to pursue who they want,
- 9:34who they love, the courting, the, you know,
- 9:37dating and all that, you know, I was just thinking about this morning,
- 9:40you know, should we always immediately divulge everything that we are when we're
- 9:46on our first date and show everything, you know, show all the,
- 9:50the deep recesses of our mind and of our heart and all the stuff we got going on?
- 9:55Probably not, probably not. But things that, Canada, just like a woman,
- 10:00you might come along and you might want to try to make us better.
- 10:02You might want to change that man, you know?
- 10:05So make us better. Make us better, Canada.
- 10:08All right. We'll leave it at that. If you've liked this video,
- 10:10if you've enjoyed this video, make sure you smash that like button.
