- 0:32SPEAKER_01: Hello and welcome to Delving Deeper with Oleander Hawthorne, Delphine Alandra.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: I'm our Wild Soul.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: Delving Deeper is our metagame series where we talk about our game, the sessions, the characters, any events that happen, or just generally ask of our fellow players, what on earth were you thinking?
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: Sometimes we're not.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: All of us.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: So today we're just doing a short video that uh we think is gonna be a little on the funny side.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: We're feeding the DM.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Or taunting flood.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: DM fodder.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: No, we're not taunting, we are feeding.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: We're taunting us more.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: With information you probably already know.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Now we're talking about character flaws and player flaws.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: And uh in my experience, playing with a DM that has known me for almost 20 years.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: And uh I've known you for me.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: Oh sorry, almost 30 years.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: Almost 30 years.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: I've known you for 20 years.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: I lost a decade in there.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: Okay, I'm old.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: We're old.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: We'd be old.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: So um we're gonna start with myself.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: And what okay, so for my character, Oleander, um, obviously everybody has a lot of flaws.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: She is no exception to that.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: And when we say so, when we say flaw, we are saying something to be explained.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: The text can be exploited to drive us off course.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: What is their Achilles heel, their weakness character-wise?
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: So for Oleander, one thing that we have experienced at this point already um is her lack of knowledge of herself, actually.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: And uh we um spoiler for up to three session three.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: Oleander was discussing with a Captain Four.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: Three and four.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: Okay, it happened in four.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: We were discussing with Captain Valera.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: She was trying to convince us to let her go.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: And part of her persuading Oleander to help her out, either let her go or kill her.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: I can't remember.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: There was something, there was there was a lot of things.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: It was really confusing as to what she Valera actually wanted.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: It flipped a lot.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: But she said that she could teach me about myself.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: She said, I want to be like you.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: I'm like, what do you mean, like me?
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: I don't know what I am.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: What do you how do you be like do you know what I am?
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: And the second I hit that point of do you know what I am, Oleander was sucked in.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: Completely sucked in.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: Keeping in mind, this is a telepathic communication, none of the rest of us were privy to at the time.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: The best we had is Drewkin and Delphine were there looking on, but we could not draw her out of it.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: And even though, like, Delphine tried to say, What is going on?
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: What are you doing?
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: Because I knew she was doing something, but I didn't know what.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: And in the end, we still don't know.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: And in reality, a telepathic commute uh communication is gonna be fast as well.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: But I mean, still they were they were there waiting.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: But she said that she could tell me about myself if I would make her like me, or if they're like, I don't know how to make you like me.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: I don't even know how this happened to me.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: It was a very confusing situation.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: But so Oleander's big thing is she doesn't know anything about herself, she doesn't know about her vampirism, she doesn't know what um what good or bad can come of it, what um features and flaws there are involved.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: And so I ended up almost derailing that session.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: I almost in a spectacular manner.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: In a spectacular manner.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: Luckily, luckily for you, it just looked like you tripped.
- 4:26unknown: Yeah.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: Just think, if you're if you're playing a session and and one of your counterparts suddenly starts trying to help escape one of your prisoners, and and you you're all just sitting there watching, going, what are you trying to do?
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: I was gonna I was thinking of fighting her.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: I was actually in front of Drunken! How?
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: Like, what what did I think was gonna change?
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: Happy another Raven Queen, hater of the undead, let me just bite you.
- 4:55SPEAKER_01: That was one of those moments where what were you thinking?
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: I wasn't.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: She wasn't, she wasn't.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: And you know the the defense, in all defense, of our DM who put this upon me, is that he's known me for almost 30 years and knows how to push my buttons.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: Every time.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: Every time, every time.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: Because it's happened not quite so spectacularly since, because I think you've gotten a little bit more like, oh god, like aware.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: But yeah, he does, he does a lot frequently, particularly with her.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: It shook me up a little bit to know that I almost derailed a session that badly.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: My turn?
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: Well, uh, yeah, okay.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: So alright, so Delphine's flaws, um, I feel like her it's coming.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: I feel like it's coming.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: It hasn't happened yet, but I feel like it's coming.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: Is uh her family.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: It is the whole reason she ran away 80 years ago was to protect her parents.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: Uh and she now has Theron, her ex.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: On again, off again.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: Love interest.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: Anything to do with them is uh gonna it would really test her allegiance, not necessarily allegiance, but it would test her resolve if she was presented with a problem of save them or save them, or if her father particularly, who she idolizes, came to her with something, she would feel a great deal of internal struggle to not listen to her father.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: She is very much the dutiful, obedient daughter.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: An obligation.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: What if your father is evil?
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: She would, and she's not stupid, as she points out all the time, because her intelligence is funny.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: She is aware the reason she is a tiefling could be a direct result of something her parents did.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: She doesn't want to directly acknowledge it though, because she loves them so much, and she wants she ran away to protect them because the word of her being a tiefling, something was wrong with the daughter of Miriam, got was getting out, and if it could be proven that she was a tiefling, it calls into question the success of her family because clearly they made a deal to be successful.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: So then people it would just be really bad among the nobility of Silvery Moon, it'd be terrible.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: So she ran away from home because if she's not there, you cannot prove what she is.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: Um, but if her father turned out to be evil, she would be heartbroken.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: And I don't know what she would do.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: She might go evil.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: I don't know what she would do.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: She would be pretty heartbroken, but you might grow into a pendulum.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: Coincidence, you know.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: Who knows, right?
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: She might, she there I have possibilities in my brain, because I'm the overthinker.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: I'm the executive overthinker of everybody here.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: I think too much.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: Um but she she would be heartbroken, she would be lost, she would feel.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: I don't know if she'd be able to attack her father.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: I don't know if she would be able to bring herself to do that.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: Also, if something, and this is something that is, I feel imminent.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: Because her DM's an evil himself.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: Theron is her on again, off again, love interest.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: Spoilers, for eight.
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: I think it's eight that we learn this.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: Something something bad's happened at Silvery Moon, and he is on death's door, and he's been captured, and he's under threat, and she's feeling a whole lot of conflicting emotions that she can't go and help him yet.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: She she needs to do what what they're doing where they are right now is important and might ultimately serve to help him in the end.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: But what if we take too long and he dies?
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: So she's having that internal conflict, and if it comes down between choosing between her father or between and Saren, again, I don't know that she would be able to do what she would do.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: And yeah, what's your flaw as a player?
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: As a person?
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: As a person, what is your personal flaw?
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: Tell me your personal flaw.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: How long you got?
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: She's perfect.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: Perfect.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: Alright, I okay, so RDM.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: I know him by these two.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: I am a the person who's come into this group of people.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: Um, but still, we've known each other a long time, but not quite as well as you people.
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: However, uh, he does know that I can't resist breadcrumbs.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: I read ahead in books.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: I want to know what's like reading Game of Thrones.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: I'm not done with John.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna skip these three chapters to get back to John because I need to know what's happening.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: I will not rest.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: There's like one book I've not read ahead in, and I can't do them.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: I have to.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: I have to know what's going on.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: So he is very good at exploiting my I need to follow the breadcrumb.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: I need to know what's going on, and that's why I take all the notes for the group.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: And I have a 140-some page Google Doc of all of our notes.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: Color-coded, color-coded, everything.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: I I'm I'm I'm my dream is to actually make an index of like people, places, and things that you could click to to look at all the information.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: And I think that, yeah, my my need to know what I need to know what is going on.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: I do not like surprises at all.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: I hate them.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: I hate it.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: I don't want to surprise me.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: So therefore, I will forever try and surprise her.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: This is my friend and my husband, and they yeah, they like to try and surprise me in a day.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: I get twitchy.
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: We get twitchy.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: I don't like chaos.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: They enjoy chaos.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: I hate chaos.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: Delphine is very much me.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: The opposites attract, and we're just we're just drawn to her because we are chaos, and she is the opposite of the control.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: I need to be in control.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: Let go! Let go bad things happen! No, let me know.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: Bad things happen! Jump into the river and go with the flow.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: You should marry the maiden.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: You'll go somewhere yourself.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: Of your own fault.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: It'll go somewhere.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: I married you, you married me.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: But yes, again, these are things that I think that the DM already knows and he already exploits.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: And I'm fairly certain that I'm Delphine is going to be met soon.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: Not in real life soon, because we're gonna be where we are forever.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: Forever.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: But game timeline wise, by the way, we're on day 42.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: I'm counting.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: Game timeline wise, very soon I think I'm gonna be met with that ultimate choice.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: And I I do not know what she will do.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: And I look forward to finding out.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: But yeah, there we go.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: So that is Delphine's flaws as a person.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: Personal flaws as a horrible, horrible person.
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: She's she's not the nicest all the time.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: She's just got haughty expectations as a royal.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: She no, she's not a royal, she's a noble.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: She's a role.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: A noble and people to standards.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: It's her control issues.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: She's got a chance.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: She needs to be in control.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: It's her control issue.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: She's got standards in her control.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: Luckily, the player does not have control issues at all.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: Never! So this is like just a very she's a these are imaginary issues.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: I never have a problem.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: I'm totally loosey-goosey.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Chill.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: All your gooses are definitely not at a circus.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: How loose is a goose.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: Goose is totally loose.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: Name that um reference.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:55SPEAKER_00: So what are yours?
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: Well, let's think about as a character first.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: For uh a bit for Einar.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: And uh for Einar.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: I mean Einar, especially throughout the early parts of the campaign, was our hyper-vigilant, always ready, prepared, cautious, tactical and analytical for the situations.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: But he's got one major glaring chink in that armor, which we've seen more and more lately, and that's uh his absolute lack of concern when it w when it comes to anything involving ink and or vampirism connection with no fear.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: The unknown of this doesn't scare him.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: The potential ramifications doesn't, more than the not exploring it.
- 13:56SPEAKER_00: The whole idea being uh like I haven't seen the things that are me ever before, and now they're about.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: And you dangle it in front of him, and people are shocked that my entire drive is right as a character, is uh, why aren't we going there?
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: Why aren't we going?
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: To the point in one session it was getting my frustrated with going, each one of these rooms has inks, and we keep moving on, and I'm starting to get pissed off, and I'm just gonna run in and stories because he was at that point.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: That's definitely led to in-character tension.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: It got to a sit-down moment of like, Tess, can we take a break for a moment to try to explain why I'm getting so frustrated?
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: Because this feels like story moments, we're just walking past, and it's really making me mad.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: Because he's driven to it.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: And so, um, I think DMs 2 knows that too.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: With a I mean, when he's even done, by the way, Noxus is in your head saying, go back to that room.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: He likes to taunt you a lot.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: Now, like uh I'm saying we should go back to that room, but we don't want to.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: We've already been there.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: And my character's been like, should we just go?
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: Should I just go?
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: They can't stop me.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: The only thing probably stops him.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think I can stop you.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: I think the hunter has a head start right now, or if he makes a decision, you can deal with him afterwards.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: I can stop him.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: She's the one that stops him.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: She's just splash him.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: She's the one that does.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: I have done that!
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: And it did actually inspire him, I think, too, actually.
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: You're in bat mode.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: So then we've got um player flaws, and it actually kind of ties in funny how it's almost the same thing.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: Oh, along with the same same thing.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's very much this Stu really, really knows that as a player, I'm very much a yes and improv guy.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: The DM presents me a hey, I'm putting something in front of you.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: I have a really hard time going, I wanna walk away from that.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: No, I'm gonna pull the string for you.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna poke it.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: I'm going to you want me to pick that up?
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: We've even seen this in in games where I've guests played for him, knowing full well that he's gonna be like, well, I'm gonna laugh as my party tries to cautiously approach this, and I go, Here, I've given you a button at the end, go push it.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: And I will go, you want me to push that button and ignore these entire other?
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: I will go push that button.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: You've clearly made it identified to me my character should go do something.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: Let's put the risk of it aside and go, the story's gonna be better if I do it.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: And that absolutely causes potential derailments and things getting touched and things getting dragged.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: It has.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: It has.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: If we went into a bowl with something in it, and there was a sign labeling, you probably shouldn't put this in your mouth.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: Well, then he wouldn't.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: He'd he'd just go pick it up.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: Wouldn't he?
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: He'd go pick it up.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: He wouldn't.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: He'd go pick it up.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: He'd be like, Why shouldn't I put this in my mouth?
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: Should I put it in someone else's mouth?
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: Only drank it first.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: I only drank from a strange puddle once, and he made it sound like it was remnants of the fountain we're looking for that can cure our.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: And I will say he They know there's no stopping it despite cautioning.
- 17:13SPEAKER_01: You do make things happen.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for good or for bad, you do make things happen.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: The story's never boring when I'm in the room.
- 17:19SPEAKER_01: Whether or not the rest of us have consented to making that thing happen is a different story.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: And because he's not squishy particularly, he's not afraid of the consequences.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: Unlike other people.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: One day I'm laying a squishier character, and they they really want me to play a bard sometime where I'm just basically singing and pointing out however is awesome, but I'll probably do it sometime.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: I want everyone to play a bard.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: I want all people to play.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: I have to play a bard in our other game.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: She's so much fun.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: She dances.
- 17:46SPEAKER_01: I want everyone to be a group of bards.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: Just bards.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: That'll be fun.
- 17:50SPEAKER_01: That's what I want.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: It's my dream.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: It's my dream.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: And so if anybody wants me to be part of their all bard campaign at any time, I am here for that.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: I can be a sword bard, right?
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: Or would you guys insist that I play a less combat-based bard?
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: No, buy whatever you want.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: Like what you want.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: That's what Stewie wants is to be bards.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: He wants me to be like the one and not that Chris Chris Pratt played, you know.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: And strum the loot and do a little sketch.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: That wasn't Chris Pratt.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: Oh, not Chris Pratt.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: That's Chris uh fine, yes.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, get your.
- 18:18SPEAKER_01: No, they're both peas.
