- 0:00Speaker 1: The Mets top of the order needs to get it done.
- 0:02Speaker 2: The top of the line.
- 0:03Speaker 1: The last four games, they haven't been hitting on all cylinders.
- 0:06Speaker 1: You can see what they're doing, Curtis, runners in scoring
- 0:08Speaker 1: position nonexistent.
- 0:10Speaker 3: You know what's interesting because you have so much star
- 0:12Speaker 3: power up there. They're top four for tonight, all have
- 0:14Speaker 3: one hundred million dollar contracts. So is it a situation
- 0:18Speaker 3: where you have big matchups? You just did the Subway series.
- 0:21Speaker 3: You just had a big series against the Cubs coming
- 0:23Speaker 3: to your ballpark, possibly one of the best teams in
- 0:25Speaker 3: the National League's and you're getting good games, and all
- 0:28Speaker 3: of a sudden things pull back.
- 0:30Speaker 2: You start to put a.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Little pressure on yourself, like, not only do I want
- 0:32Speaker 3: to play well for myself, but I want to play
- 0:34Speaker 3: well for this team and live up to the hype
- 0:36Speaker 3: of the contract. I don't know if any of that
- 0:38Speaker 3: is starting to creep in there, but like you said,
- 0:40Speaker 3: the top four is what makes this team go, and
- 0:43Speaker 3: they have to get it gone and they.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Need to catch up to the pitching. We'll talk about
- 0:46Speaker 1: that in the next segment, but Paedro, let me ask
- 0:48Speaker 1: you about what Curtis was just saying. With one Soto.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I mean, he's got a lot with it. With a
- 0:52Speaker 1: lot given a lot is expected seven hundred and sixty
- 0:56Speaker 1: seventy five million signing bonus this year. He's making one
- 0:59Speaker 1: twenty one. He may have the bag when he's got
- 1:01Speaker 1: to get the bag going.
- 1:03Speaker 2: But you know what, it's such a bad disease that
- 1:07Speaker 2: we always bring up the money he's making. Otani is
- 1:12Speaker 2: making pretty much the same amount of money. Nobody hated
- 1:17Speaker 2: as much. I feel, I feel and this is me.
- 1:21Speaker 2: I'm accountable for this. Nobody hated as much the money
- 1:26Speaker 2: Altani was making as they are doing with one Soto,
- 1:29Speaker 2: and one Soto is not starting like horrible. He's done
- 1:34Speaker 2: some of the stuff he needs to do now. Nobody
- 1:37Speaker 2: has a stop to ever think if one Soto is
- 1:40Speaker 2: going through anything personal? Was there anything that made him
- 1:45Speaker 2: probably run away from wearing the mic, from probably talking
- 1:49Speaker 2: to the media. Was there anything personal that probably bothered
- 1:53Speaker 2: the man inside the uniform? Because I was once the
- 1:58Speaker 2: best paid player in the game, and it took me
- 2:01Speaker 2: a while to adjust to my team, adjust to the media.
- 2:04Speaker 2: I was coming from Montreal, there was a lot of
- 2:07Speaker 2: attention on me. There was a lot of stuff that
- 2:09Speaker 2: I needed to deal with until I finally made the adjustment.
- 2:14Speaker 2: And this is an adjustment year for Soto, even though
- 2:16Speaker 2: he went from the Bronx to Queens. It's an adjustment
- 2:20Speaker 2: ear but nobody is stopping to think about the human
- 2:23Speaker 2: inside the uniform, and there are some stuff that can
- 2:27Speaker 2: get your mind distracted. There's no way a guy like
- 2:30Speaker 2: Soto goes from D to Z and in one night.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Something probably bothered him. Something was not right, something is
- 2:45Speaker 2: not clicking for him. May have been the series. He
- 2:49Speaker 2: paid too much attention to what was going on, what
- 2:52Speaker 2: was said about him and the Yankees, and all that
- 2:55Speaker 2: probably got cut off. We forget how young on what
- 2:59Speaker 2: Toto is, and even all the duck comes through the.
- 3:02Speaker 1: You can expect him not to hit a thousand, that's okay.
- 3:05Speaker 1: But what you can expect or what you would hope
- 3:08Speaker 1: for j Rowl is the effort. And I think that's
- 3:10Speaker 1: what people have been criticizing him for, particularly the last
- 3:13Speaker 1: couple of games. The not hustling.
- 3:16Speaker 4: And you know, when everything is going well for you,
- 3:19Speaker 4: you get away with cruising. And I was a guy that,
- 3:21Speaker 4: you know, they complained a lot about that. I didn't
- 3:23Speaker 4: go hard up every play. My job was to stay
- 3:25Speaker 4: on the field, but the intent to win was always there.
- 3:28Speaker 4: I always put my team in a position to win.
- 3:31Speaker 4: When something was called for, I did my best to
- 3:33Speaker 4: go about it. And I understood once I went from
- 3:36Speaker 4: batting third, I mean, from batting first to third, what
- 3:38Speaker 4: it looks like when the guys in front of you
- 3:40Speaker 4: aren't going hard. It kind of just kind of sets
- 3:42Speaker 4: the tone for the team. So when you have your
- 3:44Speaker 4: star player, regardless he's the highest paid player in the
- 3:47Speaker 4: game or not, your star player taking plays off. Everyone
- 3:51Speaker 4: sees that and it doesn't feel well. When you're losing,
- 3:55Speaker 4: things get amplified. We know that. And yes, I mean
- 3:57Speaker 4: they've lost threat at last four off the Shruggs runs
- 4:00Speaker 4: the scoring position. But it's the attitude, it's his demeanor.
- 4:04Speaker 4: There's right now doesn't really like seem like he's showing
- 4:06Speaker 4: a lot of fight. If he was showing fight and
- 4:08Speaker 4: going through this, people will find the way. Your teammates
- 4:10Speaker 4: find a way to pick you up. But when you're
- 4:11Speaker 4: going out there, you just kind of going fifty to
- 4:13Speaker 4: sixty percent. Everybody says, hey, bro well also has no slump.
- 4:18Speaker 4: That has no slump.
- 4:20Speaker 2: And I totally agree with you on that, but at
- 4:23Speaker 2: the same time, you don't know it's he totally healthy.
- 4:27Speaker 2: What's going on? Only only the Mets can explain that,
- 4:30Speaker 2: and the manager will be a good person to ask.
- 4:34Speaker 4: But he can do himself though Petro, he he's still
- 4:36Speaker 4: brings a lot of this had not not even every
- 4:41Speaker 4: play because I can't, you know.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Say you got to family leaving I made a leaving
- 4:47Speaker 2: him family. And if you me's judged the green monster
- 4:51Speaker 2: in family and you think you got a homer when
- 4:53Speaker 2: you just see the ball up in the air, you're wrong.
- 4:56Speaker 2: If the win is through, it's going around in ball,
- 5:00Speaker 2: or it's coming a little bit further you you don't
- 5:03Speaker 2: have a homer unless you really hit that ball.
- 5:05Speaker 4: And that's the point why lack of experience.
- 5:11Speaker 2: But he should have been hustling from from the first
- 5:13Speaker 2: time he hit the ball.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Yes, it wasn't just the home run that he missed.
- 5:17Speaker 1: He also didn't run out that ball in a tie
- 5:19Speaker 1: ball game. And I think that's what people are kind
- 5:21Speaker 1: of criticizing about. First, you will play in New York.
- 5:24Speaker 1: You don't want to end up on the back page
- 5:26Speaker 1: of the New York Post. But you said, maybe we
- 5:28Speaker 1: should ask the manager and of course he was asked
- 5:31Speaker 1: about the perceived lack of hustle after the games.
- 5:35Speaker 4: We'll talk to him about it.
- 5:37Speaker 5: Someone gets a whold one and knows when he gets
- 5:40Speaker 5: it he's won. You know, he thought he had it
- 5:42Speaker 5: with a win and all that, and in this ballparker
- 5:44Speaker 5: you know, anyway anywhere, but in particularly in this one
- 5:47Speaker 5: with that wall right there. You got to get out
- 5:49Speaker 5: of the box.
- 5:50Speaker 1: There's people of nights.
- 5:51Speaker 4: You've had a couple of plays where you were slow
- 5:53Speaker 4: getting out of the box.
- 5:54Speaker 1: That's something else to be.
- 5:55Speaker 3: More aware of.
- 5:57Speaker 5: No, I think being whustle and very hard. If you
- 6:01Speaker 5: see it today, you can tell we're gonna.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Hop up and downs because you've got to keep our
- 6:05Speaker 3: chain up and a failure sometimes you gotta fail, and
- 6:09Speaker 3: you just got.
- 6:09Speaker 5: To keep moving forward.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Curts.
- 6:12Speaker 1: The point is that Pader made is that we shouldn't
- 6:16Speaker 1: attribute the criticism to the contract, but unfortunately we are
- 6:19Speaker 1: fallible folks, and we're going to do that. What do
- 6:22Speaker 1: you take away from the lack of what he said?
- 6:25Speaker 3: Well, I think it's interesting because Pedro talked about the
- 6:28Speaker 3: old Tani contract. I think some of that weighed into
- 6:30Speaker 3: the decision. Does Otani go east? Or do you stay west.
- 6:35Speaker 3: The West coast media is completely different than the East
- 6:38Speaker 3: coast media, like we talked about, right, so I can
- 6:42Speaker 3: go ahead and struggle a little bit out west, and
- 6:45Speaker 3: you got to deal with everything else. And you may
- 6:47Speaker 3: not even be the top headline, not in New York,
- 6:50Speaker 3: not with New York Sports. And that's the tough part there.
- 6:53Speaker 3: The biggest thing is just don't give them a reason,
- 6:55Speaker 3: whatever it is. Like Jimmy said, if you're struggling and
- 6:58Speaker 3: you're not hustling, or you're struggle not hustling and not
- 7:01Speaker 3: hustling again, now they got something to come at you.
- 7:03Speaker 3: We're all going to make a mistake one time out
- 7:05Speaker 3: of the box. Maybe we didn't see it well, maybe
- 7:07Speaker 3: we thought we got the ball in Fenway and it
- 7:09Speaker 3: didn't get out. But if you have one again the
- 7:11Speaker 3: Subway series, all eyes on you. One against the Mets.
- 7:14Speaker 3: I'm sorry, the Red Sox and Fenway. Now that just
- 7:17Speaker 3: brings even more attention to you.
