- 0:00Back on the Hardgo postgame show, you kind of Associate coach Chris Daley has
- 0:03joined us along with Gene Orama tonight career in number twelve hundred. Congratulations,
- 0:08Thank you. Doesn't feel like when I don't know it. It doesn't.
- 0:13It's not I don't know. You're just like yesterday when you had number one
- 0:18hundred with a lovely group of wonderful you know, we, Gina and I
- 0:22are not like big celebrators of that kind of stuff. I mean for other
- 0:27people, sure, and we're excited and obviously appreciative, and it's a it's
- 0:31a big number. But as Gino said, I thought that was good.
- 0:36The kids made a sign in the locker room that said I'm number three.
- 0:41So I mean, it's when you think about it again, it's like a
- 0:45lot of the things. I think at some point you'll look back and go,
- 0:48wow, I don't think it's going to be tonight. We've got another
- 0:51game coming up. But we appreciate everyone's good wishes, and you know,
- 0:57I don't believe there's well I shouldn't say I don't believe. I know there's
- 1:00not gonna be twelve hundred more. I can tell you that I can tell
- 1:04you that definitely not twelve hundred. Chris. You had a lot open looks
- 1:07tonight. Yeah, shots didn't fall, but it was a game that you're
- 1:11tough down and the defense was good. Yeah, it was ugly. It
- 1:14was an ugly game, and I think, you know, Seaton Hall has
- 1:15a way of making you play that way. Although we did get open looks,
- 1:19we just didn't make them and we thought eventually we would and we did,
- 1:22and when we did, we got on a little run. Even when
- 1:23we were up seventeen at half, it didn't feel like seventeen. And it
- 1:26was the same way at their place. I mean, we were up,
- 1:30but no lead felt comfortable. I think partially because of the way they play,
- 1:34and you know, they they run their stuff again like Saint John's can
- 1:40try and control the tempo by running their stuff all the way to the end.
- 1:45But our defense was good. You know, when we stopped fouling,
- 1:49it was a lot better. We just have, you know, we really
- 1:53have to do a better job with that. That's not something that you know,
- 1:56we can go into games and I think they were shooting the bonus with
- 2:00two minutes in the second quarter. Yeah, so you know, that's just
- 2:02dumb, you know. Some of it's dumb, you know, and you
- 2:06have to be able to play the way the game is being officiated and be
- 2:08smarter so that you don't you know, we had three guys with two fouls
- 2:12and then kate K got her third, So we just have to be a
- 2:15little smarter than that. When you went on that run. It obviously the
- 2:19game's easier when the shots stopped stopped dropped, But Page was a big factor
- 2:23in that, not just making the baskets but some good defensive place but also
- 2:27how we were getting the shots. And you know, sometimes I think we
- 2:30shoot such a high percentage. Our guys are in shock when they don't go
- 2:32in. But I thought Aliyah was great on the backboard. I mean,
- 2:37I thought she was terrific. I think she had ten rebounds in the first
- 2:39today half, right, Yeah, so that was giving us second and third
- 2:44opportunities. We've been doing a better job, I think on the offensive rebounding
- 2:47and the last two games, you know, Gino challenged our guys, and
- 2:52I think we have. We've had more players go to the offensive less than
- 2:55we've had and we're certainly going to need that Sunday. Now, your starters
- 3:00gave your fourteen offensive rebounds, and I know player more than three, but
- 3:04it was by committee. Alle is in a really good place right now,
- 3:07is she. Yeah, she's playing really well, you know, and I
- 3:08think she's making good decisions. They're doubling and tripling team, triple teaming her,
- 3:13and she's doing a really good job of knowing when to score before the
- 3:17double team can come, or kick it out when they do double team.
- 3:21So she's just in a good place, knocking in shots, doing a little
- 3:23bit of everything, and certainly hitting the boards. She does a pretty good
- 3:28job of not letting things phase her because it's four shirts around her anytime,
- 3:31you know, if the ball goes up or rebounding. But still amazes me,
- 3:35how can she outruns people down the floor, Like she can be down
- 3:38here getting the rebound, but she's the first one down there. Yeah,
- 3:40you know, you have to try to take advantage because we don't have a
- 3:44lot of size. So if we can outrun them, that lessons it and
- 3:46we don't have to run a half court offense. We're able to get out
- 3:49in transition. So I think her doing that is obviously a big factor.
- 3:53Chris, what was a defensive game plan? Coming in. This is a
- 3:54team that was coming off a tough second half against villanoven for the second straight
- 3:59game. They score seas and loan points. Well, you know, in
- 4:01the league, they're scoring less than what they were scoring sixty four and they're
- 4:04scoring I think less than next year in the league. But we really concentrated
- 4:10on their two top scorers, so Baines, she had only four points today
- 4:15and the kid Gray, the point guard, had only two, so we
- 4:18concentrated on them. When we played them at their place. They made eleven
- 4:24brees and of course they yes, and of course they banked some in,
- 4:28but they averaged like five makes and today the ones that made it were not
- 4:31kids that are their usual shooters. So you know, from a standpoint of
- 4:35understanding who we were trying to and how we were trying to defend people,
- 4:39I thought we did a good job with that. And in all honesty,
- 4:42I thought the last group that was in did a really good job on both
- 4:46ends and the floor. So that finished the game on a good note.
- 4:48All right, Sunday, it's South Carolina. They're very good offensively this year,
- 4:54far better than they have been in any year that we've seen them in
- 4:57the past. Because they can shoot from the perimeter. Now in the they're
- 5:00a dangerous inside out team. They're a really good team, you know,
- 5:02and at their place, it's going to be a big challenge. But we'll
- 5:05go in and we'll have a game plan and we'll we'll play the way,
- 5:10you know, hopefully execute that game plan and give ourselves a chance to win
- 5:14the game. That's the goal, you know. It was wild on the
- 5:15Coaches Show last night. Brought up the fact that you know it's three the
- 5:18rotation is seven, three seniors, four freshmen, and we were thinking about
- 5:23the last time this happened. It's when really a little point guard was a
- 5:28freshman, when it was like four. Oh right, yes, that's right,
- 5:30we had seven new players. I think that you're right, Yes,
- 5:33we have two sophomores, two juniors, and then you had all of us
- 5:36lovelies. Yeah, it was good old days. Coach than to just in
- 5:42case you're wondering, I have it now, I had it then. Yeah,
- 5:46it's it's it's an odd mix because you don't have any gap and any
- 5:49you don't have anyone that could fill the gap with some experience. So there's
- 5:55nothing we can do to change that. Hopefully as our freshmen, certainly KK
- 6:00and Ash have played a lot of minutes, Hopefully they don't feel like freshman
- 6:04anymore, you know, hopefully they start to feel like at this point in
- 6:08the season their past being freshman. Right. You know, it's good to
- 6:11see in Sunday. I'll include this because I know Carolina wasn't here today,
- 6:14but just to see everybody on the bench, that's a nice pick. A
- 6:17lot of people the company over there. Well, you know what it's good
- 6:23and bad is when you don't see them, you don't realize that we're missing
- 6:26them. Then when you see all five of them there, you're like,
- 6:28oh man, that's a pretty good start in five right, Yeah, there's
- 6:30a lot of points sitting there, but everyone's doing well. So that's a
- 6:33good thing and good when everybody can be around because you know they're part of
- 6:39the team, and that's the thing that you don't want to lose when you're
- 6:42injured. That's the hardest thing, you know, not having to be separate,
- 6:46but because you have to do your rehab and do the things you have
- 6:47to do, but also still being connected. So they're doing a really good
- 6:51job with that new outfit. I like, yes, it is new.
- 6:56Thank you. You're very nice. Thank you as always sharp and fist.
- 7:01I'll throw a little plug for Kimberly's boutique in West Harford. That's where I
- 7:04got it, really, Kimberly's fautigue. Allright, tell her I sent you.
- 7:11Maybe i'll get a discount, Chris, thank you, all right. Thanks
