- 0:02This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me, covering one piece
- 0:11episodes five forty six through five forty eight. A sudden tragedy a gunshot shuts
- 0:17down the future and back to the present. Horty makes a move, and
- 0:22then the Kingdom in shock an order to execute Neptune issued. In these episodes,
- 0:31we get to find out what happened to the Queen, and I have
- 0:34a lot of suspicions that things with her death are not what they seem.
- 0:40Welcome to spoil Me, and welcome to the show everyone. I am Natasha.
- 1:02Thank you very much to Florian for commissioning this episode. You guys,
- 1:07I actually really really enjoyed these three episodes, and I found myself genuinely choked
- 1:14up at one point. This show is so unpredictable because there are times where
- 1:19it wants me to feel something and I can tell it wants me to and
- 1:23it's just not hitting. And then there are times where it just nails it,
- 1:26you know, And I'm not really entirely sure what that magical ingredient is,
- 1:32but it really was there for these episodes. So let's start off with
- 1:38back to the press. No sorry, A sudden tragedy. That's the first
- 1:42of the three episodes. And this is so funny because you guys, you
- 1:48saw the way that I behaved at the end of the last trio. I
- 1:53was very unimpressed with the fact that the Queen had decided she was going to
- 1:57go and meet with the humans after the way that this fucking celestial dragon had
- 2:02treated her. It just didn't make a whole lot of sense to me,
- 2:07and I stand by that to be honest, Like, it just is kind
- 2:12of wild that after the way he behaved, that he that he doesn't turn
- 2:19out to be representative of the whole, Like I don't know who she talked
- 2:24to in this meeting. That's part of it as well. I was assuming
- 2:28that she met with other celestial dragons and that they would have taken his word
- 2:34on how things went down and it would have been a complete like no go
- 2:40for her. So I was relieved when she turns up because I was thinking,
- 2:49like, I just really thought I knew how this was going to go.
- 2:52At the same time, it was worse in a way when she turned
- 2:57up because I was thinking, oh God, this means that whatever terrible thing
- 3:02happens to her, which we know that's what's coming. Happens like here at
- 3:08home in front of her family, and that was I was not excited about
- 3:15this. So when she comes back, she is really excited. It says
- 3:23she brought a piece of paper back with her that would prove a beacon of
- 3:25hope to our entire island. It was a greater miracle than any of us
- 3:30could have imagined. Everyone, despite our troubled history with them, the celestial
- 3:37dragons are influential, and by meeting with them, I've been able to bridge
- 3:39a gap. Okay, so she did meet with those explicitly celestial dragons.
- 3:44We may attend the World Summit, listen to what we've written, and she's
- 3:52telling them about like the endorsement. If we can fill my petition with signatures
- 3:58at all, the world leaders at the summit will have no choice but to
- 4:01recognize our right to be there, and furthermore, our right to be a
- 4:04part of the surface world. Finally we will see our dream. Excuse me,
- 4:12guys, I'm so sorry. I'm a little bit confused about this because
- 4:19I was hoping that what she was going to come back with would turn out
- 4:25to be like, Oh, now that we have gone and spoken to them
- 4:30in person. It turns out that they are willing to recognize our personhood,
- 4:38but it seems like it's more about if we have enough people's signatures to show
- 4:45that we're cooperating, that we will get a chance to argue for our personhood.
- 4:51And I might be misunderstanding this, but I just really wanted to put
- 4:58this out there and ask folks that, like, if you're listening and you
- 5:01feel like you have a better grasp of exactly how this works than I do,
- 5:05it may even be based on something real. I was a little bit
- 5:13mystified by some of this, and I don't I think that like it's coherent
- 5:19within the universe what she's saying, you know, and the way that things
- 5:24happen with the signatures there is still I felt a sufficient sense of urgency,
- 5:29but I didn't understand exactly how this was meant to work. So she says,
- 5:36you know, basically, I still need your signatures. We can do
- 5:41this, but we all have to do it together. And there's a long
- 5:45pause as the camera goes from face to face and everybody is sort of avoiding
- 5:51eye contact, and it really seems as if nobody is on board with this
- 5:56after all, and she begins to get really like just sort of downtrodden,
- 6:03discouraged looking, and then some kids come up and they have their signatures,
- 6:10and she's like, thanks, but don't get my hopes up. They're just
- 6:13gonna take them back. I think these are the same kids that like she
- 6:15thought were coming to class and then grabbed their parents' signatures out of the box
- 6:19and ran off. And they say, no, no, no, my
- 6:24mom said that she would sign up too, And all of these people finally
- 6:29like they this has proven to be what was needed, and they all begin
- 6:34coming forward. Eventually, this one guy says, I think you're gonna need
- 6:39a bigger box. And we have one of the dudes, one of the
- 6:44two guys. I can't remember what you guys said. They're called like right
- 6:46and Left, I think. But they bring out the one that looks like
- 6:50a sea horse, a huge box, like the size of a car,
- 6:56and everybody begins to put their signatures in there, and she gets really overwhelmed
- 7:00at the support of all of the people, and Jimbay, who is here
- 7:05for all of this, is saying, how if Tiger were here, he
- 7:10would be so touched by this whole thing. So this is all looking very
- 7:17optimistic, and we have this moment when after all of that has settled down
- 7:26and she's back at home with her children, who were really really worried about
- 7:29her. She is talking to them about the future of things. But I
- 7:34think it's just her sons that are with her for this conversation, and she
- 7:41talks to them about what happened with the sea kings, and she calls it
- 7:49a miracle. At first, at least in the dubs, she calls it
- 7:54a miracle. I'm not totally sure if that's the way it like, if
- 7:57the translation is the same. But at first, I really thought that it
- 8:03was going to be sort of, oh, how mysterious that I was saved
- 8:07by the sea kings, who knows what happened, you know, that sort
- 8:11of And instead it turns out that she knows exactly what happened, and that
- 8:18it was her daughter. I was so surprised by this. I didn't think
- 8:26that she was going to have like heard of this this power. I'm gonna
- 8:35read how this goes exactly she says, they say in a legend passed down
- 8:41by our family, that every few hundred years, a mermaid will be born
- 8:45into the royal house. With a fearsome power that no one else on the
- 8:48island possesses. So it's not like a precise thing, it's every few hundred
- 8:54years. And I, for some reason, I didn't really like stop and
- 9:01consider, well, if Vanderdecken has heard of this, then maybe her family
- 9:05has heard of this. But like guys, I genuinely didn't think of that
- 9:09because I thought Vanderdcken was going to have been privy to some sort of like
- 9:15private information for some reason. Why did I think this, I genuinely can't
- 9:20tell you. I think I figured it was some sort of like nefarious thing
- 9:24that being a bad guy, that he just has a connection with something,
- 9:28you know. But suffice to say, she tells her sons if anything were
- 9:35to happen that would cause her trauma, though it would potentially be catastrophic.
- 9:43She could summon all of the sea kings at once and basically destroy the island,
- 9:52like and because you know, when she did it to save her mother,
- 9:56that was only three of them, I think, so she's like,
- 10:01yeah, she could summon a whole lot more than that, and there would
- 10:05just probably be no way that the island would survive that. So that's grim.
- 10:13So she really impresses upon her kids in this like you've got to watch
- 10:20out for her and make sure that something like that doesn't happen, because it's
- 10:26you know, like she's your sister and she should be under your protection.
- 10:31This is your responsibility, which is a real big responsibility to place on kids
- 10:39at this age. But it leads to the scene later that, like I
- 10:43said, got me really really choked up. So all right, let's jump
- 10:48to the fucking signature thing. She's got all of these boxes, like I
- 10:52told I said about the one that was big as a car. When the
- 10:56camera pulls back, there's three boxes that size, and they are all full
- 11:00to the top of signatures, and there is this moment when all of a
- 11:05sudden, the signatures go up in flames out of nowhere. This was such
- 11:11a weird thing because and like I understand that the show can't exactly like be
- 11:20everywhere all at once, but I got so frustrated with the fact that we
- 11:26aren't allowed to see how the guards are pursuing whoever did this. Like I
- 11:33know that we eventually go over there to that to Jimbay and the soldiers and
- 11:39everything, but because of the way the timing works out, it really feels
- 11:45as if they didn't get moving looking for the perpetrator until after she died,
- 11:50and her death scene is quite long, so it was just a sort of
- 11:54like me just being like, is anybody like looking for these people? What
- 11:58are we doing? And yeah, the what becomes clear is somebody lit the
- 12:09signatures up. I suspect, and I will be honest, like, this
- 12:15is totally an assumption on my part, but I think it's true, not
- 12:20just to get rid of the signatures themselves, but I believe to lure her
- 12:26to that platform where it would be easier to take her out. And so
- 12:33yeah, she's freaking out about the signatures, imploring the guards to take this
- 12:37seriously. I'll have to get them all over again, like it's been days
- 12:41of work. Please do everything you can to make sure that we get as
- 12:48we save as many of them as possible. And as she is standing there
- 12:56collecting them, looking around with like a real the expression on her face was
- 13:01so devastated, you know, all of a sudden, a shot rings out
- 13:07and in the usual fashion. I loved this, guys. The way this
- 13:11is animated is so beautifully done, and the shock of the moment and it's
- 13:20like there's a there's all of the uh way that it's divided up. I'm
- 13:26going to sort of rewind so that i can just talk about each frame of
- 13:33this and the way that it goes. So she's talking to the guards,
- 13:37let's see retreat to safety. You can count on us. And she stands
- 13:43up, and then you see the muzzle of a gun. You see a
- 13:48finger on the trigger, You see what looks like a view of the platform
- 13:54through like a rifle sight, and then you hear the shot and almost follow
- 14:01the bullet down to her. And then it's just bright red on a black
- 14:07background with like papers fluttering, so it's as if you are looking at a
- 14:13close up of the gunshot wound itself. I thought that was so well done.
- 14:18And then the camera pulls out and you have the silhouette of her in
- 14:24the flames with all of the papers flying, and then it comes back to
- 14:26her collapsing and the this is so the moment of this and how close to
- 14:39her first real victory with her own people she is really makes this exceptionally tragic.
- 14:48You know, it's like she has scored a victory with her being able
- 14:54to get this like endorsement for the petition in the first place. So I'm
- 15:00not trying to say it's her first victory period, but it's definitely like the
- 15:05thing that has catapulted the fishmen themselves to believe in this. And you,
- 15:13guys, I can't tell you there is something. So when something of potential
- 15:22gets cut off before it has a chance to really like bloom, I always
- 15:26think that's the saddest thing, you know, whether that is a project or
- 15:31a dream or a relationship or whatever. If you if you feel like it's
- 15:39there and you weren't allowed to like pursue it, it just feels like life
- 15:46being genuinely unfair in a way that I can't help but be like, why
- 15:52why does it work out like this? You know? So meanwhile we have
- 16:00Ottohime, who has watched this whole thing, and her eyes are doing this
- 16:08thing like to indicate her utter shock and horror as she is distracted looking at
- 16:18her mother who has just been fucking shot. Vanderdecken comes up behind her and
- 16:26is about to try and like grab her and abduct her. And I was
- 16:30like, really, at this point, even when she's this young, but
- 16:34it's at this point I guess meant to be that it's more about her power
- 16:41than it is about her beauty. Although later on the conversation that he has
- 16:45with one of his men, which is highly questionable, I was sort of
- 16:49like, maybe it's kind of both, like I'm not really entirely sure what
- 16:56to think and how much of a benefit of the doubt to give this guy.
- 17:00So this is when we have the scene that really got me choked up.
- 17:08So the queen isn't dead yet. She has her moment to say goodbye
- 17:15to her family, and her son has been you know, he didn't realize
- 17:22that she was still conscious and with them, and he's swearing vengeance. Of
- 17:29course, you know that's that's what you do. But she is still present
- 17:36enough to say it to him like that's please don't like it doesn't matter who
- 17:41did this to me. Please don't be angry on my behalf. That's not
- 17:48what I want. I want you to fight the resentment and the hatred that
- 17:55I know is going to try and take over. And everybody around her as
- 18:02well, who's hearing this is also like starting to cry, and she can
- 18:07see her daughter really like starting to lose it, and there's as she's crying,
- 18:15there's a rumbling and she says, SHIRAJOHI calm yourself, and the brothers
- 18:22all at the same moment realize, oh god, oh god, this is
- 18:26what could be happening. And then we get her two goofy brothers trying to
- 18:37like cheer her up and dance and sing about how even if their mother's not
- 18:45there, I'm choked up again that they'll be there for her and that she
- 18:56has them. And there was something about them like clearly being in awful pain,
- 19:03like they are crying while they're dancing and trying to laugh. And it's
- 19:07sort of ironic that, like oftentimes somebody being forced to present an emotion that
- 19:15they are not at all feeling is like awful to me, But here it's
- 19:21them doing this willingly for their sister's sake and for the sake of the island,
- 19:26and for the sake of their mother, who is watching this all because
- 19:30she's still alive. And it was just so sweet. It was just so
- 19:37sweet. You guys, like the it's the little round one that starts it
- 19:44off, and then it's the guy who is like long and thin who jumps
- 19:49in with him, the hot brother, which is what I'll call him.
- 19:55He watches but he isn't like willing to make as much of a a fool
- 20:00of himself. I guess I don't know, but he's it. Just there
- 20:04was something about these two immediately jumping to her defense in a way. I
- 20:11don't know how else to say it, especially while their mother is still here
- 20:15and her the last thing that she sees is that her sons are going to
- 20:23look out for her daughter, like she asked that she doesn't have to worry.
- 20:33I didn't cry during watching, but now I'm crying. And her son
- 20:42says, I'll collect all of the signatures again. I'll do it, you
- 20:47know, like I'm just going to take over where you left off, and
- 20:49I'm going to honor your memory and we'll protect her and we are going to
- 20:57keep fighting for your dream. And this she finally passes away, and there's
- 21:11a moment where she like puts up her pinky and they all put up their
- 21:15pinkies together. I don't remember if we saw them do this before, and
- 21:18this is something that's like a family thing, or if this is meant to
- 21:22be sort of a gesture of affection in Japan that I'm not aware of.
- 21:29But they all do this together as like their last moment with their mother,
- 21:33and it was just really really sweet, you guys. I really loved this.
- 21:37I thought this was so well executed punintended, I guess. And then
- 21:44yeah, the episode ends with her hand falling. So then we go into
- 21:51back to the present, Hoardy makes a move. I you know, my
- 22:00whole thing during that scene was why isn't nobody looking for the person who did
- 22:04this? Where are the fucking guards and soldiers and whatever? And we go
- 22:14to Jimbay, who is just like, how do I get past this kind
- 22:19of anger? How can I find peace after everything that has happened? And
- 22:29we have this moment where you hear somebody yell no, damn it, and
- 22:36there's a gun that falls and one of the soldiers yells, that's him.
- 22:41There he is, and we see a dude who gets like, it's really
- 22:48weird, you guys. He gets sort of yanked away from the edge of
- 22:55the building, but it's unclear who he is, how he got here.
- 23:03Why after killing her, would he have stood there and just waited to be
- 23:08caught. It doesn't really make sense. And of course Hordy is the one
- 23:17who catches him and shot him in the chest before anybody was able to question
- 23:22him. I think we can all agree it's pretty clear if he didn't,
- 23:32like if Hordy didn't shoot the queen himself, he got this guy to do
- 23:37it. Whatever it is, Hardy was involved and has set this whole thing
- 23:41up because he is way too eager to hold the dude up in front of
- 23:47everybody and be like, this is a piece of shit. Is who killed
- 23:51the queen? It was a human After everything that Jimbei tries to be like,
- 23:56Hey, all of the world that she has put into moving past things
- 24:03is going to be completely ruined. Don't tell everybody what's going on here,
- 24:07and he's just like, fuck you, I'm not keeping this to myself.
- 24:11Which, on the one hand, I understand that Jinbei is doing what the
- 24:18queen would have actually wanted, and I really believe that. On the other
- 24:25hand, I can't help but think that, like, yeah, I I
- 24:32do feel like people deserve to know. I don't know where I stand on
- 24:37this, y'all, I really don't, but I don't think ultimately it matters.
- 24:45I think that Hordy was really disgusted at what the queen was doing and
- 24:49wanted to thwart it in any way that he could, and he just decided
- 24:55to light up all the signatures and take her out, and that was the
- 24:59way he was going to do it. So this I there's no suggestion that
- 25:07anybody suspects him in this episode or the one after, So I'm just sort
- 25:15of waiting for that reveal to happen. And I don't know whether to expect
- 25:22it soon or if it's going to be something that gets sort of sat on
- 25:26and then we eventually get there, like at the way end of the arc.
- 25:30I don't know, but yeah, he holds this dead body up and
- 25:38tells everybody, and basically all of the humans are just losing their minds over
- 25:45the fact that they were about to like go full in with the humans and
- 25:51they had done this. Meanwhile, the King, you guys, the King
- 25:59is I was very glad that he later on comes out and apologizes because I'll
- 26:06tell you what, the fact that he locked himself in a room and left
- 26:11his children when they have just lost their mother and it's not just that that
- 26:15she died, their mother was shot to death in front of their eyes,
- 26:22and he just isolates himself. I was really disgusted with him. I'm not
- 26:30gonna lie like there was just for me. I don't know if I could
- 26:37have forgiven that if I were his children, I feel like I would just
- 26:41be like carrying that my whole life, that you were just not there for
- 26:48us in the most literal fashion during what is hopefully the worst moment of their
- 26:55lives. And what he is claiming is that he is like keeping himself apart
- 27:03so that he won't like lose his temper and go on a killing rampage or
- 27:11do something that he would regret. I guess, I guess, you know.
- 27:17I it's not good enough for me for to like abandon your kids like
- 27:21that Minister of the Left and right. That's what these guys are called.
- 27:26Sorry, I just saw it in the subtitles here. So eventually he does
- 27:33come out, it's been what five days, He's in there for several days,
- 27:41and you know, he's like just barely going to make it to his
- 27:47wife's funeral, which like again, y'all, his children are here waiting for
- 27:53him and genuinely not sure if he's going to turn up for their mother's funeral.
- 28:02I just have a really hard time with that. I I like,
- 28:11you, Neptune, why did you have to do this? Dude? You
- 28:17know, I guess, just grief, we're not always at our best,
- 28:19and that's just how that happens sometimes. So oh, I also wanted to
- 28:26mention too that I know that King Neptune is huge, but I didn't really
- 28:32quite understand that that was likely where shiro Ho she got her size from here.
- 28:38When she's still very little, she like flies up. I say flies,
- 28:42but I guess it swims up to him and grabs his beard and is
- 28:47like crying into his beard, and she is very very small in proportion to
- 28:52him. And I didn't realize like how teeny tiny she was in comparison,
- 28:59because she's bigger than her brothers, so I was thinking that she was like
- 29:07not the same size as she is full grown adult obviously, but evidently the
- 29:15growth spurt that she goes through is insane because the size that she becomes later.
- 29:22It's just I don't know how the sex would work between a woman who
- 29:29her mother's size and a dude Neptune size, but you know what, I
- 29:34guess that's none of my business. So and I wanted to mention too that
- 29:41the design of like the queen and her son's in Chirahoshi, they all have
- 29:52this sort of floating. I don't really know what to call it, like
- 29:57a sash behind them that sort of comes off of their shoulders, and it
- 30:03feels like it almost it's almost like a cape, but with all the fabrics
- 30:12taken out of the middle. Do you know what I'm saying? And I
- 30:15think this is meant to sort of reflect the whiskers of like fish or something.
- 30:25I don't know, but all of them have it except for King Neptune.
- 30:29The ones that the Queen had were even like more elaborate. They each
- 30:36only have one that's like coming off of each shoulder, but the Queen had
- 30:40like three, I think. So I was just wondering if anybody had info
- 30:45about what that might signify, or the choice, like the design choice and
- 30:51why they design them like this. So this is when the princess like comes
- 30:59up to her father and she's like, these notes keep coming for me everywhere
- 31:03I go. And Hulu doesn't give you the translation of the note, so
- 31:08I'm not sure what it says precisely, but it's clearly like a love note
- 31:14or a you know we're meant to be together or something like this, And
- 31:21rightfully, the King is like, what the fuck you're a child who's doing
- 31:26this, and it's Vanderdecken already on his bullshit. So then we have the
- 31:32queen's funeral and it's uh interrupted by the Prince. And I really like the
- 31:41Prince, and this is like a moment where despite the fact that I was
- 31:45sort of disappointed that he doesn't join in with his brothers to be silly and
- 31:52calm his sister down, it's I think there was sort of a sense with
- 31:56Oda of like, he's the one supposed to have dignity and be really serious,
- 32:02and how do I make him do that and not actually be a funny
- 32:07moment, you know, which I think is probably the right call. But
- 32:15the Prince has like got tears in his eyes and he says, look,
- 32:19everybody. One of the last things that my mother said to me was that
- 32:24we are almost there. And I understand that after everything, it's likely you
- 32:32aren't going to be ready for the summit in two years. There's another summit
- 32:38after that in six years, and maybe you won't be ready for that one
- 32:43either. But I understand after what has happened to my mother that it's just
- 32:52affirmed all of your worst fears about humans. So I'm not holding you to
- 33:00what you signed before this occurred. I am not going to keep those signatures.
- 33:06I'm burning them, and I am going to start at the beginning.
- 33:14I just really like respected the way he handles this. He says, together,
- 33:23we'll start at the beginning. Someday in our future, when your wounds
- 33:28have finally begun to heal, once you feel you are ready united, we
- 33:34will dream of a new life in the sun. And this prince is a
- 33:39good dude. He's going to make a good king. I am happy with
- 33:45him. So the funeral ends and we go back to the present with Jimbei
- 33:53telling the story to everything to everybody, and he describes how the king like
- 34:00really rarely left the palace after that, and the signatures from the island began
- 34:07to replenish. People did begin to have hope of this again. But yeah,
- 34:12it's been like sixteen years and there is still so much divisiveness between the
- 34:19fishmen pirates and the awful things that oh my god, you guys, I
- 34:24almost said, aragorn arlong did I am still sort of responsible for He was
- 34:35like a brother to me, and so I hope that you can understand.
- 34:38And we heard about what he was up to, and we tried to stop
- 34:43him, but he was so good at avoiding consequences because he was able to
- 34:47bribe and intimidate people, so there was really like very little recourse. And
- 34:55nevertheless he's still taking responsibility for that, and he says, that's why,
- 35:04though it pains me, it's my fault. And then here comes Sonji,
- 35:13Soanji says to him, Oh, yeah, well, if you're so sorry,
- 35:22kill yourself. I was irritated with Sanji to begin with that he was
- 35:31sort of inserting himself and this thing with Nami that he was not really a
- 35:36part of this moment. I was so irritated, and I loved the response
- 35:45the voice actress who is doing Chopper's voice, the way that she says Sanji
- 35:53with this genuine shock and like reprimand it was truly like a perfect reading.
- 36:00It's such a small moment saying only his name, but there's a lot in
- 36:06there. However, I was satisfied very shortly by the fact that Nami says,
- 36:15okay, Sanji, that's enough, and she finally steps in and is
- 36:19just like, you don't get to speak for me, and he says,
- 36:23are you serious? How could you excuse what they did to you? And
- 36:27she's like, I am not excusing anything, but Jimmy didn't mean for people
- 36:32to get hurt. And jimbay over here, if you wish for me to
- 36:38take my own life, and Nommy says, drop it, and she just
- 36:45does one of those speeches that I say one of those speeches in a sort
- 36:49of flippant manner. I don't mean to be like dismissive of this. I
- 36:52think that this is like a good moment, but it is something that we
- 36:57have heard before, which is everything awful that has happened to me has made
- 37:04me who I am. And there are so many things that if they had
- 37:07gone a different way, who knows where my life would be right now.
- 37:13I wouldn't have met my amazing friends if I hadn't been out there hustling trying
- 37:19to like collect the berries to pay him back. And I wouldn't change anything
- 37:23about where I am now because I am in the present, really happy,
- 37:30and I like just all of those things along the way came together to make
- 37:37me happy in the present, even though my past was a living hell.
- 37:42So I'm at peace with that. And JIMBEI is clearly like just not fully
- 37:52prepared to accept this, like mercy. I don't even know if that's the
- 37:57right word. And when when she says this, he just thinks about the
- 38:02Queen and how she says it doesn't matter who did this to me, and
- 38:07don't become angry on my behalf, and then even remembers Tiger on his deathbed.
- 38:14You can't tell anyone on the island what happened. The tragedy we've endured,
- 38:17and our hatred must die with us, and this is just such a
- 38:27you guys, look, it's complicated, right. This is one of those
- 38:36things where a big part of me can't get fully on board with the idea
- 38:44of hiding things from people, because folks deserve to know fully what they're getting
- 38:52into. So even though I definitely understand that it was the best of intention,
- 39:00you know that she the Queen said like, don't pursue this, don't
- 39:07get angry on my behalf, even though it is completely understandable the approach that
- 39:14Tiger took with just like, please keep this under wraps, don't let people
- 39:20know. I am not fully comfortable with that when it seems to be happening
- 39:28so often that like, maybe this is evidence that the pattern is dangerous.
- 39:37At this time, and it isn't the right time in history for people to
- 39:44band together and forgive and try and become friends. Like I feel like,
- 39:49if you don't know about some of the awful things that humans have done recently,
- 39:55you might be thinking this is going to go a lot more smoothly than
- 40:00it is and put yourself in a position to be really either you could be
- 40:07hurt, your family could be her. You know, like, there's just
- 40:12so much for me that that plays into this that I really love the sentiment,
- 40:22especially in terms of like the stop, the the what's the word I
- 40:30want? Somebody finally decided to put their foot down and not pursue vengeance.
- 40:37I think that is genuinely important. But not pursuing vengeance isn't the same as
- 40:45you not telling them what somebody did. Not pursuing vengeance has to be a
- 40:51conscious choice you make while fully informed, or it doesn't mean anything. So
- 40:59I guess it's supposed to be that they're not pursuing vengeance by telling people what
- 41:04happened. But I don't think that simply telling the truth is the same as
- 41:09pursuing vengeance. I think that it's informing folks of what the danger is still
- 41:17out there, you know what I'm saying. So I don't know you,
- 41:21guys, I was very like uncertain of how I felt about this, and
- 41:27it's it's so funny to you because like the other series that I'm covering right
- 41:30now, Red Rising, which I'm covering later today, there is a very
- 41:35similar scene as in this where it's a bunch of people who have decided they
- 41:40want blood and somebody having to talk them down from just that endless cycle because
- 41:49you know, you try and go after somebody for revenge and then whoever's left
- 41:53that cared about that person is going after you for revenge and then you're killed
- 41:59in somebody that cared about you goes after them for revenge, and fucking where
- 42:01does it end. Somebody has to be willing to sacrifice their desire to even
- 42:10the scales to get that kind of like really shortsighted justice in the interests of
- 42:22everybody, and what could happen to like more than just themselves due to the
- 42:28repercussions of that. And so yeah, this Jimbay gets very very overwhelmed here
- 42:37starts crying. We have Frankie over there crying as well over this whole story,
- 42:42and Nami is looking at jim Bay kind of like, oh man,
- 42:45he clearly was carrying a lot of guilt around with this, you know.
- 42:49And then we're interrupted by Lufy just capt like just falling over. He just
- 42:57collapses and snores, and it turns out that he fell asleep at the very
- 43:05beginning of the story. Like when he wakes up, he says, oh,
- 43:09I like must have missed. What happened to that criminal? What is
- 43:15it that he says, I'm trying to find it. Uh oh yeah.
- 43:20Somebody says forget it and move on, and Lufy says, oh, sure,
- 43:22whatever. So Jianbae, what did the queen end up doing to that
- 43:28thief she caught? Yeah, way way way back in the beginning of the
- 43:32story. So then we have the sort of like blossoming friendship between the princess
- 43:42and Nami. The princess says, I feel like I've known you a long
- 43:45time and that we have been friends, you know, and Nami just says
- 43:49basically, well, we've both been through a lot of horseshit, so that
- 43:52makes sense. And then Jimbey says, I'll okay, guys, I lost
- 43:58track of time. What's this at the palace anyway? Like what's going on.
- 44:02You told me that Hoardy and his crew took the King and the guards
- 44:07captive, right, and then some of your crew members are also like in
- 44:12the mix. You don't know anything further than that. And Hatchi says,
- 44:17if the siege is playing out as Hordy plan, there's a good chance the
- 44:21rest of the country is falling to his forces now too, And Jim Bay
- 44:27says, wait a second, he told you what he's going to do,
- 44:30Like, I had my suspicions after he left the army, but he knew
- 44:36not to tell me, of all people. And Hatchi is like, he
- 44:40wasn't smart enough to keep that shit from me, But I am going to
- 44:45warn you. The hatred that he feels about humans is so intense it's even
- 44:53worse than our alongs Our Along. There was a real funda mental difference at
- 45:00the bottom of the way that both of them saw things. And Arlong would
- 45:06never hurt his own people fishmen like we are all on the same side,
- 45:12and that is just not how he would roll. But Hordy feels that anybody
- 45:17who sympathizes with humans is also a problem that he's got to deal with,
- 45:22and he would have no problem taking those people out, and Hatchie says,
- 45:30like, also, in the last four years, we have for the first
- 45:37time collected enough signatures for King Neptune to speak at the summit about relocating Fishman
- 45:44Island to the surface, and that is the he like Jimbay assumes this is
- 45:54the main thing that is Hordy's focus, but Hachi's like, no, that
- 46:00would be nice if that's all it was, but it's a lot more than
- 46:05that. And this is when we get the interruption of this giant transponder snail,
- 46:14which everybody seems almost horrified by, like they didn't know something this big
- 46:17existed, and it projects the image onto the side of the bubble that the
- 46:24entire island is within, so everybody in the whole island, it seems,
- 46:31can actually see this and hear this as well. And Hordy announces to everybody
- 46:40it's so funny he because that's the end of the episode, is like him
- 46:45appearing on the screen. But then when he starts things out off, he's
- 46:50like, hey, am I coming through, Like he basically doesn't like a
- 46:54tap tap tap is this thing on when he begins And I thought that that
- 46:59was actually genuinely funny, but yeah, Horty is letting everybody know that he
- 47:07has the king and he is going to kill him, that anybody who likes
- 47:15humans should get the fuck out, and you he you know, had been
- 47:21having his men go around with this photo of the queen that people had to
- 47:24step on to prove that they weren't loyal to the King and Queen anymore.
- 47:31But Hordy says, that's way too easy. There is no way that's enough.
- 47:38What I'm doing is looking through the signatures and everybody who signed this fucking
- 47:49thing saying that we should be friends with the fucking humans. All of you
- 47:54are being eliminated because this kingdom is going to be a lot better off without
- 48:00you. And it like it makes a lot of sense actually that this is
- 48:07the way that he would like approach this. It's kind of perfect to just
- 48:12have a list of names and all of these people get gripped up like right
- 48:17away. It was sort of surprising to me how perfectly organized this is for
- 48:24him to take out his vengeance on human lovers essentially. And Hordy, for
- 48:32his part, is talking about how like there's going to be a whole new
- 48:36era, we'll have more discipline, and end friendly relations with the humans,
- 48:42and all of his men are, you know, standing behind him with their
- 48:45weapons ready, and he's like, I think it's high time that we just
- 48:50acknowledge the fact that humans are inferior to us, like we are stronger,
- 48:58we are faster, we are better, loul and the fact that we have
- 49:06been serving them as slaves makes no fucking sense, which I can't help but
- 49:13also see the point there. But yeah, so he says that my men
- 49:19are going to be out there ridding the people of everybody who would like weaken
- 49:25this discipline that I'm trying to establish, and you have to treat all of
- 49:32my men with respect, And then he actually says something like kind of nice
- 49:37about the queen Otohime was indeed selfless and worked tirelessly to build a bridge between
- 49:45fishmen and humans. I do respect her spirit, but have you forgotten the
- 49:52end of her tail? She was killed by a human. Even if you
- 49:55approach them with a true heart and kind intentions, they'll take advanta of you
- 50:00and leave you in the dirt. We have to wake up, can't you
- 50:05see? And again I really do think that he was the one who killed
- 50:09her, and his overall thesis is just as long as we follow this royal
- 50:17family and do what they say, we're doomed. We're just like all eventually
- 50:23going to be enslaved. It's just going to end badly for us because there's
- 50:29no other end in sight, you know. And he says, the king
- 50:37got old. It happens to everyone. The only way to advance is to
- 50:42eliminate the old guards so they won't hold us back anymore. And then we
- 50:46have this weird interruption from Nami. She says, when you think about it,
- 50:53this mess is kind of our fault. If we hadn't shown up,
- 50:59the king might be fine. I don't follow this line of thinking. I
- 51:07may like, is it forgive me, guys, because so much happened at
- 51:15once that I'm not like sure where to start with this. Is she talking
- 51:21about like Loofy being invited in and then like supposedly abducting but actually just sort
- 51:28of absconding with the princess? Or is she talking about Zoro and the like?
- 51:35But she they wind up blaming Zoro. But I don't remember like exactly.
- 51:43I know that he got there before them, and that he was drinking
- 51:45and stuff, but I can't remember if he initiated anything that would cause this.
- 51:52I I don't follow her logic here. For his part, Jim Bay
- 51:58just hears Nami say that, and I'm immediately leaps to like the worst conclusion,
- 52:02and and the what's her name Kamie is like, dude, they were
- 52:10trying to defend themselves. It's not what it sounds like, because instantly wants
- 52:15to know what the fuck they did. So, yeah, the old Yugu
- 52:21kingdom has worn out. It's welcome, this is hoardy again. Time to
- 52:24say goodbye. In three hours, at the Concord Plaza, the weak and
- 52:30incompetent King Neptune will be put to death. And of course Shira Hoshi is
- 52:37horribly upset by this, and he talks about gold Roger here and says,
- 52:45uh, and I didn't know this, so this is like kind of adding
- 52:52a new dimension to things. He talks about gold Roger that era was notable
- 52:57for countless acts of persecution at the hand of humans. It's only natural that
- 53:02Neptune's execution will bring about a great Fishman era, one in which we reign
- 53:09over humans. Now, what's sort of funny to me about this is that
- 53:16Horty is being really, really shortsighted, because if he were really wanting to
- 53:22reign over humans, the thing to do would be to go to that summit
- 53:29and act as if you're doing this all in good faith, and then turn
- 53:32around and stab them all in the back after, like once they've allowed you
- 53:39into the human lands and you have yourself set up so that you're not like.
- 53:46The difficulty is that Fishman Island is so deep and difficult to get to
- 53:52and create such a separation between humans and and not between him, but like
- 54:02between fishmen and their homeland that I think it probably would serve your ends a
- 54:09little bit better if you were able to re establish a homeland on the surface
- 54:17and then begin your reign of terror from there. For all I know,
- 54:24that is his plan, but it doesn't sound like it the like, I
- 54:30don't think that he destroys the signatures because he just starts, you know,
- 54:37reading them off, So I don't I can't tell if that's something. Let's
- 54:42see he has, like the the paper from the queen from ten years ago.
- 54:46If I destroyed this letter, you won't get another one along with that.
- 54:52Here we have a box and these are the signatures. So I don't
- 54:58know. Maybe he isn't when to do my plan, Like, I don't
- 55:02think that he has that kind of long term vision. He's not destroying the
- 55:08papers, but he is like stomping all over them, so I think that
- 55:13pretty much amounts to the same thing. So yeah, then we have the
- 55:17sequence of him being like, Okay, now I know who to weed out,
- 55:22and he just starts reading different people's names, and you hear like exclamations
- 55:29all over the island of folks who are hearing their names called out, and
- 55:34the I feel so bad because like, I don't know if this is going
- 55:39to go how it seems. There's a weird sort of animation for a moment
- 55:45where Hordy is reading the names and it almost looks like there's a spinning disc
- 55:51almost like a bandsaw or something, And I don't know what that's supposed to
- 55:57be, but it's on either side of his head, like top and bottom,
- 56:02and I couldn't understand. I think maybe it's supposed to be like the
- 56:07view from inside somebody's eye who's like eyelid is partially shut in fear, who
- 56:14has begun sort of trembling. But it just looks so strange that I was
- 56:19like, I is that it tagare of Coral Hill and then we hear him
- 56:27yelling no, no, not me, please, But he's yelling not me
- 56:31even though there aren't like soldiers coming to get him. There aren't pirates like
- 56:37you know, in the vicinity immediately approaching him. So I was sort of
- 56:44wanting this dude to like bail, you know, to turn around and just
- 56:49attempt to escape, and to see what happens when they try to do that,
- 56:52because I need there to be I need it to be made clear to
- 56:58me as a viewer the position that these people are in and that they can't
- 57:04escape. And I don't remember, guys, I feel like this is probably
- 57:10true, but I don't recall if it's actually explicitly said. So we know
- 57:16that the pressure of the water outside the Fishman Island bubble is such that it
- 57:23would crush the humans and their vessel if they weren't coated. Right, are
- 57:30the fishmen immune to that pressure or could it destroy them as well? And
- 57:37they have to be protected by the bubble of the island Not totally sure,
- 57:44but regardless, if there is there's a scene and I'm out of time here,
- 57:52but it's very brief with Vanderdecken where one of his men tells him about
- 58:00object and this is from like the flashback that could age up the princess so
- 58:05that Vanderdecken wouldn't be a creep for marrying her. And I love that one
- 58:09of his men is like, it's okay, sir, we already know that
- 58:13you're a creep. I did think that was actually kind of funny, and
- 58:20an argument about like, well, she's gonna get even bigger, and he's
- 58:22like, who cares? I like big women, different strokes. Okay.
- 58:30Then we go we have a moment in the present with all of our guys
- 58:35who have apparently been caught as a prisoner, and it's we have this weird
- 58:43flashback before they had been caught, and I don't understand what it was that
- 58:50they were attempting to do, Like they're in this cage in the present,
- 58:55and who's up is like a ten to do a psychic power to get rid
- 59:01of the chains that's making his nose like spin around. It would just we
- 59:07have the flashback from Brooke and because he says like, did you see those
- 59:13guys faces when I stood up? And we kind of go back and see
- 59:17how they all like pretended to be dead Brooke was just hanging over the side
- 59:23of a railing here, and eventually he jumps up, surprising them all because
- 59:30they thought that he was just a skeleton, and Zorro is excited to see
- 59:37the way that he is like frightening these dudes. And I thought it was
- 59:40going to be like, oh, Zorro's like nice one, Brooke, because
- 59:45then he can attack them, but it doesn't occur. He doesn't attack them.
- 59:52Is he already tied up at that moment. This was very puzzling to
- 59:57me. I didn't really understand anything that was happening in the scene. So
- 1:00:01just like all we know here is just that they have been imprisoned and are
- 1:00:08part of the hostage situation. And then we have this brief scene with Robin
- 1:00:15who says that this like ponent glyph looks like a letter an apology to somebody,
- 1:00:22and she says, like who is it to why would they engrave it
- 1:00:27in stone? And part of it she reads aloud as Joyboy, which I've
- 1:00:32got no theories on that one. So the episode ends long story short with
- 1:00:44a conversation where Jim Bae explains that like the main issue for Hordy is that
- 1:00:53he knows the princess has this power to summon these sea kings, and that
- 1:01:02he wants her taken off the board. So that is why he has teamed
- 1:01:08up with Vanderdecken, because Vanderdkin will kill her if she isn't able, if
- 1:01:15she like she won't marry him, and he thinks of the princess as a
- 1:01:22huge threat despite the fact that she doesn't actually know how to use her power.
- 1:01:28And Jimbay when when she says this like she's not in control of it,
- 1:01:31Jimbay's like, all right, well, don't let him know that.
- 1:01:34He needs to see you as a threat, like we need to have this
- 1:01:37be something that we can leverage, you know. And then Lufy is like,
- 1:01:43all right, well, I'm gonna head out and start fighting this guy.
- 1:01:46And Jimbay is like, Lufy, you are not up for it and
- 1:01:52I have got to take care of this, let me do it. And
- 1:01:55Lufy is basically like, have you met me? No, I'm I'm not
- 1:02:00just letting you do it. Are you fucking serious? These are my friends?
- 1:02:04He's threatening, and the kid like no, and Jimbae has a moment
- 1:02:07of like, man, I should have fucking known because your brother was hardheaded
- 1:02:10as fuck too, so yeah, of course you're gonna be like this,
- 1:02:16And the episode basically ends with the two of them squaring up on each other
- 1:02:21like they are going to fight over who gets to go fight, which is
- 1:02:24silly, Jimbay, just let Lufy participate. It's been years since the last
- 1:02:30time you saw him fight. He is capable of a lot more than he
- 1:02:32used to be capable of, which I think you're probably about to find out.
- 1:02:37So I would think it would be better for you to save your strength
- 1:02:39and energy and health for the fight with the other dudes than just waste time
- 1:02:46here fighting each other. But what do I know. I am just a
- 1:02:52young woman who doesn't know about the ways of war. As Danny would say,
- 1:02:55all right, guys, I'm gonna wrap this up, but thank you
- 1:02:59again so much for hanging out with me, for listening. I really hope
- 1:03:01you're enjoying the coverage. And until next time to the loo, motherfuckers.
- 1:03:35That was an unspoiled Network podcast.
