Transcript
- 0:06Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to No Dribble, the podcast where we
- 0:09Speaker 1: talk about netball, but we talk about so much more.
- 0:12Speaker 1: And interestingly, when I say we talk about netball, but
- 0:16Speaker 1: we talk about so much more, I don't mean just
- 0:19Speaker 1: me again, backed up by our friends Sue Gordion, because
- 0:22Speaker 1: in fact, this week I, Caroly and Swindle have been
- 0:25Speaker 1: joined by the full team. So I'm sitting beside Katherine.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Got's the bands back together?
- 0:32Speaker 1: And up north we have.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Liz Alice Sun.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Huh, well, I forgot what you look like.
- 0:40Speaker 3: I look old.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Remember you look gorgeous, you look fresh.
- 0:44Speaker 1: The beauty of aging is our eyeballs get older too,
- 0:47Speaker 1: so it's like you look the same to me.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Han, thank you're a little pixelated in old age.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Catherine. Before we started, you were saying that I look
- 0:55Speaker 3: like I've had like a bit of a white sort
- 0:57Speaker 3: of rinse put through my hair. But no, that is
- 0:59Speaker 3: the natural. I haven't had my hair died for years.
- 1:02Speaker 3: But do you know sometimes I do dream that I
- 1:05Speaker 3: go and get my hair dyed brown again, and I
- 1:07Speaker 3: wake up feeling really like, oh, I can't wait to
- 1:10Speaker 3: have a look at it still silver.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Well, we need to analyze that.
- 1:15Speaker 3: I know if anyone's got any sort of ability to
- 1:18Speaker 3: psycho analyze your dreams? Once am I wishing that I
- 1:21Speaker 3: was younger again? Or I wishing? Don't know what? Am
- 1:23Speaker 3: I think? I know?
- 1:24Speaker 2: But I was trying to suffocate my ex boyfriend in
- 1:26Speaker 2: my sleep the other night, so's something in that as well.
- 1:30Speaker 3: How do you go.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Of all the things? Though? That's just the most horrendous
- 1:36Speaker 2: way to go, and it scared me that I was
- 1:38Speaker 2: dreaming it when I woke up.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I have this weird recurring dream. So I was married
- 1:43Speaker 1: before and it you know, when marriage ends, it's not
- 1:47Speaker 1: usually because you're thrilled with the person, right, But I
- 1:49Speaker 1: quite often have this dream that my ex husband comes
- 1:51Speaker 1: and takes me away from my happy life. That I go, oh,
- 1:54Speaker 1: that's right, I'm married to you, and then I have
- 1:56Speaker 1: to leave my current very happy life. And it's like
- 1:58Speaker 1: I've been married to Pete for two years, so it's
- 2:01Speaker 1: so random.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Do your kids ask you about your first marriage. I
- 2:06Speaker 3: had a conversation with someone this week who their partner
- 2:09Speaker 3: had been married before when they were years and years
- 2:12Speaker 3: and years ago, and I was saying that the kids
- 2:14Speaker 3: just they just they're not there's no curiosity about it,
- 2:17Speaker 3: Whereas I think if it was me when I was
- 2:19Speaker 3: a kid, if my parents had been married before, I
- 2:20Speaker 3: would have asked a thousand questions like what you had
- 2:23Speaker 3: a life before I came along.
- 2:24Speaker 1: My kids are very curious about it. It seems a very
- 2:26Speaker 1: strange thing to them. They also have two big sisters
- 2:30Speaker 1: from Pete's first marriage, so sort of I guess that
- 2:32Speaker 1: normalizes it a bit for them. It's like, oh, doesn't
- 2:34Speaker 1: everybody's parents have a true now. Some people get it
- 2:37Speaker 1: right the first time. Some people, you know, have to
- 2:40Speaker 1: take many guys at it. Some of us seem to
- 2:43Speaker 1: be getting it right on the second go. Although you
- 2:45Speaker 1: might have to ask Pete about that.
- 2:48Speaker 2: He's not here away.
- 2:50Speaker 1: He's not here. He's an orange. But he will be
- 2:53Speaker 1: coming to Melbourne with me on for Friday night, but
- 2:55Speaker 1: for Saturday night is coming back to watch the rugby.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Oh oh, we've had the worst week and in sport
- 3:00Speaker 1: in this house. I have to tell you I don't
- 3:02Speaker 1: think I like sport anymore. Fortunately, I don't follow the
- 3:05Speaker 1: Sydney Swans because afel is not really my game. I
- 3:09Speaker 1: am a Brisbane Broncos fan who and they lost to
- 3:12Speaker 1: Paramatta in the last ten seconds of the game. Then
- 3:15Speaker 1: of course the Wallabies lost in the last sixty seconds
- 3:19Speaker 1: of the game, and then of course the Swifts lost
- 3:21Speaker 1: in the last well, they lost in the last fifteen
- 3:24Speaker 1: minutes of the game. Really didn't they? But yeah, so
- 3:27Speaker 1: it was not a great weekend in sport. And I'm
- 3:30Speaker 1: just wondering if I quit.
- 3:31Speaker 3: No, then you're not letting the lesson of sport, dude.
- 3:34Speaker 3: The whole point is to get back up and go again.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Okay, nice, come on.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Be better than that.
- 3:40Speaker 1: I do have to say something exciting happened that I've
- 3:42Speaker 1: been saving up for a couple of weeks, Catherine to
- 3:44Speaker 1: tell you is that I met a ferret named Cath.
- 3:47Speaker 2: A ferret who's this story exciting? For god?
- 3:54Speaker 1: It was very exciting for me. So Scott ferrets, Well,
- 3:58Speaker 1: so my niece in Orange that they live on a property.
- 4:01Speaker 1: They've got a farm, and they got a couple of ferrets,
- 4:03Speaker 1: and they did call the ferrets Kath and Kim. But
- 4:08Speaker 1: Kim has met an unfortunate end fairly quickly with one
- 4:11Speaker 1: of the dogs. But yes, they have a ferret named Cat,
- 4:14Speaker 1: and they take the ferret out ferreting, and the three
- 4:18Speaker 1: girls sit by the entrance to the rabbit warren for
- 4:22Speaker 1: hours and hours and wait for this thing to come
- 4:24Speaker 1: back out.
- 4:25Speaker 2: So he just disappears. Yeah, it should just disappears.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Goes down there. Sometimes might find a little nest of kids,
- 4:33Speaker 1: the baby rabbits and have a decent feed, and then think, well,
- 4:35Speaker 1: it's nice and quiet down here, I'll have a snooze.
- 4:38Speaker 1: So yeah, kids in the country have a very different
- 4:42Speaker 1: life to my children, or to me. In fact, I.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Think I think, in lieu of the fact that Kim
- 4:47Speaker 2: has suffered a nasty demise, cath should be renamed to
- 4:52Speaker 2: Liz something else.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Some good thanks.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Well, that's a lovely.
- 5:01Speaker 1: It's a great story. It reminded me though, my other
- 5:04Speaker 1: friends bought their kids guinea pigs and gave them to
- 5:07Speaker 1: them for Christmas, and Liz, they were up your way
- 5:09Speaker 1: for Christmas, having Christmas with their grandparents, and the guinea
- 5:13Speaker 1: pigs were in a cage under the house and a
- 5:14Speaker 1: snake got in. This is on Christmas night, so the
- 5:18Speaker 1: kids have got the Christmas not. A snake got in
- 5:21Speaker 1: ate one of the guinea pigs and then was too
- 5:23Speaker 1: fat to get out of the cage, so the other
- 5:26Speaker 1: guinea pig had to spend the whole night sitting in
- 5:28Speaker 1: there with this snake with its mate in the snake spellies.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Oh my lord, a whole mess of therapy if you're
- 5:37Speaker 2: a person.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Oh my god, you go.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Kids. Not only did you get too lovely guinea pigs
- 5:42Speaker 1: for Christmas, but for Boxing Day you get a little
- 5:45Speaker 1: gift of an understanding of the way the animal kingdom
- 5:48Speaker 1: really works.
- 5:49Speaker 2: And now a demented surviving guinea pig.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Wow, the other one survived because I think they're just
- 5:55Speaker 1: too exhausted digesting. It's like I can't I can't do anything. Wow.
- 5:59Speaker 2: I sound like me on any given evening.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Liz, welcome back. Where have you been? Tell us everything?
- 6:13Speaker 3: Oh well, look, we a couple of things have happened
- 6:16Speaker 3: since I've been on. So I spent three days at
- 6:19Speaker 3: state Championships out at Penrith watching Division III play And
- 6:24Speaker 3: how'd they got fourteens? Yeah, they came second, which was
- 6:27Speaker 3: really exciting. They came to last year, so they came
- 6:29Speaker 3: second this year. So super exciting weekend from that point
- 6:33Speaker 3: of view. And then for recovery, we flew Evylyn home
- 6:36Speaker 3: and then stuck her in the car the next day
- 6:37Speaker 3: for twelve hours. So we drove twelve hours from our
- 6:40Speaker 3: place to Canarvan Gorge in central Queensland. And then then
- 6:44Speaker 3: the very next day we got up and we walked
- 6:46Speaker 3: twenty four kilometers and everyone was broken. So and then
- 6:50Speaker 3: I had to spend the next ten days sort of
- 6:52Speaker 3: letting everybody recover. And then we drove up to long
- 6:56Speaker 3: Reach and Winton and Winton is where the Age of
- 6:59Speaker 3: Dinosaurs museums and it's where all these dinosaur bones and
- 7:04Speaker 3: skeletons and footprints have all been found and it's fascinating.
- 7:08Speaker 3: So yeah, we had a really nice holiday. There just's
- 7:10Speaker 3: lots of time in the caravan, having campfires and driving
- 7:15Speaker 3: lots and looking at things.
- 7:17Speaker 2: So dear Marshy marshmallows on the campfire.
- 7:20Speaker 3: Marsh's s'mores, Oh dear, yeah, I love smores. Because we've
- 7:24Speaker 3: got friends who are Canadians. They've introduced what what's the
- 7:27Speaker 3: biscuit that you use? Just whatever we can find an
- 7:29Speaker 3: oat biscuit, and then marshes, and then and then dark chocolates.
- 7:33Speaker 3: Sitting inside the marshes, you squish the dark chocolate in,
- 7:36Speaker 3: wrap it all in foil, put it in the cold.
- 7:39Speaker 3: But you know, we actually are having a bit of
- 7:41Speaker 3: a family fight about the marshmallows because our kids like
- 7:45Speaker 3: to just stick them in the fire and set them
- 7:47Speaker 3: alight and then oh yeah, then no, you've got to
- 7:50Speaker 3: sort of slowly roast them so.
- 7:51Speaker 1: They caramel around.
- 7:53Speaker 2: I like them fired up and crunchy and black and
- 7:57Speaker 2: such level of cancer involved in all of that. But
- 8:00Speaker 2: oh I like them.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Like that because you have no patience, Catherine.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Is this going to be the thing that brings an
- 8:05Speaker 1: end to No Dribble? Going to be the controversy that
- 8:07Speaker 1: breaks us? I'm with Liz and you know one, because
- 8:10Speaker 1: after that, I'm like.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Oh no, I've got at least five in me totally.
- 8:16Speaker 2: They're so good. That's funny. So the kids like them
- 8:19Speaker 2: like that, or they just do it to torment you
- 8:21Speaker 2: and for fun.
- 8:22Speaker 3: I think it's possibly a bit of column and a
- 8:24Speaker 3: bit of columbe. I think they realize that it really
- 8:26Speaker 3: gets up our noses when they do that, because we
- 8:28Speaker 3: think it's a really poor way to cook stuff, and
- 8:30Speaker 3: it's got no it shows no patience and poor taste.
- 8:34Speaker 3: And so now they know that it annoyses that's what
- 8:36Speaker 3: they do that they're never going to go back to
- 8:37Speaker 3: cooking them properly.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Ever again, have they started having their steak well done?
- 8:42Speaker 2: Nah, that'll never be allowed.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Because then you know you're in a real battle.
- 8:46Speaker 2: That's when they get sent to Arnie Kath in Sydney forever.
- 8:50Speaker 3: That's when they get sent to boarding school.
- 8:52Speaker 1: I was thinking, Liz, when you went to Canarvin Gorge.
- 8:54Speaker 1: So I went to primary school in Brisbane. Our year
- 8:58Speaker 1: seven camp, which then was the last year of primary school,
- 9:00Speaker 1: was to go to Canarvin Gorge for a week. So
- 9:02Speaker 1: I went to McGregor State School right in the center
- 9:05Speaker 1: of Brisbane there or I don't know, a Brisbane suburb.
- 9:08Speaker 1: But they put us on a bus for twelve hours
- 9:11Speaker 1: and then we had seven days under canvas as our
- 9:14Speaker 1: school camp with Goanna's going Overywhere's make sure you zip
- 9:17Speaker 1: up your ten kids? Now? My daughter is going on
- 9:20Speaker 1: a school camp for two nights to Canberra. This is
- 9:22Speaker 1: the year six camp, so their final year of primary
- 9:24Speaker 1: school two nights to canvas, staying in a hotel. It's like,
- 9:27Speaker 1: come on, that's not camsoft. But would you take kids
- 9:30Speaker 1: on a bus for twelve hours if you had a choice?
- 9:32Speaker 2: No, not without some level of zat axe or something.
- 9:38Speaker 1: For everyone. We're all going to take our medications myself.
- 9:41Speaker 2: But sure, if you want to drunk the kids, I
- 9:43Speaker 2: think that's frowned upon you did.
- 9:45Speaker 3: But they do that right, So they do that up
- 9:47Speaker 3: here to get the kids to the to Canberra for
- 9:50Speaker 3: their Stage three excursion. Like we're twelve hours from camera
- 9:53Speaker 3: and they stick them on a bus and off they go,
- 9:55Speaker 3: and they go overnight with the kids.
- 9:57Speaker 2: They would to love it, though, wouldn't they.
- 10:00Speaker 3: The kids they love the trip down, the trip back
- 10:03Speaker 3: they hate. I think that the teachers are over it
- 10:05Speaker 3: as well. But that's you know, that's just how it goes.
- 10:08Speaker 3: But I reckon a week long camp at Canavan Gorge
- 10:11Speaker 3: would be fantastic. It's so beautiful.
- 10:13Speaker 1: It was wonderful. I loved it.
- 10:15Speaker 2: So when's the next trip, Elizabeth. You've got lots of
- 10:17Speaker 2: netty coming up obviously GF this weekend and then you're
- 10:20Speaker 2: probably on deck for internationals and things. But you have
- 10:23Speaker 2: another little camping getaway.
- 10:25Speaker 3: We're booked to go to Tazzi in January, so we're
- 10:28Speaker 3: going to take the caravan and the car on the
- 10:30Speaker 3: Spirit of Tasmania and drive around Tazzy for a month.
- 10:34Speaker 3: So dribblers, any hot tips would be greatly accepted. Thank you.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Well, I've got a map of Tazzy, but I'm not
- 10:41Speaker 1: going to say you.
- 10:42Speaker 2: That that's so eighties of you.
- 10:54Speaker 1: I'd be interested to see whether anyone thinks we need
- 10:56Speaker 1: to edit that out.
- 10:57Speaker 2: And I constantly tell Harper that I stuff up at
- 11:16Speaker 2: work because I think it's good for them to know
- 11:18Speaker 2: that it's okay to make mistakes, don't stress about being
- 11:21Speaker 2: perfect all the time. So every time I stuff up,
- 11:23Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, buddy, guess what I did on Telly
- 11:24Speaker 2: today or whatever. Anyway, I had the best worst stuff
- 11:29Speaker 2: up yesterday, right at the very end of the game.
- 11:32Speaker 2: So we've got pivot the postgame show after the game,
- 11:35Speaker 2: and it goes for nearly an hour, and the very
- 11:38Speaker 2: last thing that I have to do when I'm hosting
- 11:40Speaker 2: is just point to the Grand Final and you know
- 11:43Speaker 2: the time and where it's going to be and all
- 11:44Speaker 2: that sort of stuff. I said the completely wrong time
- 11:48Speaker 2: by five hours. It wasn't half an hour wrong. It
- 11:52Speaker 2: was I told everybody it was a one o'clock start
- 11:55Speaker 2: game at two and we get off air and it
- 11:57Speaker 2: was a great finish. It felt good, and we get
- 11:59Speaker 2: off and one of our producers is like, where'd you
- 12:04Speaker 2: get the one o'clock from? I said, I saw it somewhere. Yeah,
- 12:08Speaker 2: the game's sixth we start at six thirty.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Catherine, I'm like.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Oh my god, of all the things and stuff, all the.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Things I know.
- 12:16Speaker 2: So I picked up rup. Yes, so I was like, oh, buddy,
- 12:18Speaker 2: you know how I tell you I make mistakes quite often.
- 12:20Speaker 2: I had the best one ever. And she's like, oh
- 12:23Speaker 2: my god, mom, that's really bad.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Check your tickets everyone.
- 12:26Speaker 2: So in light of that, I'd like to make amends
- 12:31Speaker 2: the game. Everyone is at six point thirty on air,
- 12:34Speaker 2: seven point thirty, start first center pass. Okay, I think
- 12:37Speaker 2: I'm off the hook now, good work, Okay, thank.
- 12:39Speaker 3: You, ripping game. No, Catherine, can we talk about the game?
- 12:42Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 12:43Speaker 3: Great game. I mean, my little swift heart hurt. But
- 12:47Speaker 3: I was also just so taken by Samoe mcinness at
- 12:50Speaker 3: three quarter time and the message she gave to her
- 12:53Speaker 3: team and the way they responded like that's unbelievable. That
- 12:57Speaker 3: is just you make a documentary about that.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Tell me about that. Because I was in the stadium
- 13:03Speaker 1: two gens in, so I didn't hear what Samone McKennis said.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Okay, so she pulled the team in just before the
- 13:09Speaker 3: end of three quarter time and the first thing she
- 13:12Speaker 3: said to them, I think Catherine, was we can do
- 13:14Speaker 3: anything in this quarter YEP. Basically said to the defenders
- 13:17Speaker 3: have a crack, said to the shooters, let the ball go,
- 13:20Speaker 3: just be a little bit disciplined, but just get out
- 13:22Speaker 3: there and have fun and you can do anything. And
- 13:24Speaker 3: it was just like they all went, oh.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Oh, we can. It was the best. It actually made
- 13:29Speaker 2: me a bit edgy to want to play because she's
- 13:31Speaker 2: like gave them license to do whatever they wanted in
- 13:34Speaker 2: the last quarter. It was but she was emotional in
- 13:37Speaker 2: the moment, so I think in that moment it was
- 13:40Speaker 2: like she was staring down the barrel of the last
- 13:42Speaker 2: fifteen minutes of her career, because you know, she's announced
- 13:45Speaker 2: her retirement from the Victens of stepping down as a
- 13:47Speaker 2: head coach at the end of the season, so that's
- 13:49Speaker 2: what it felt like. It felt like, this is my
- 13:52Speaker 2: last message. This will be my last message to these girls.
- 13:55Speaker 2: I want them to enjoy this fifteen minute. I don't
- 13:57Speaker 2: genuinely think she thought they could win it.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Wow.
- 14:01Speaker 2: I did ask her at the end of the game
- 14:02Speaker 2: and she said she did. But the way it came
- 14:04Speaker 2: across with the emotion and she had tears in her eyes.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Was that she must have thought this could be my
- 14:11Speaker 2: last moment to address this side in a game. And
- 14:13Speaker 2: then you're right, they just flicked it around. But what
- 14:15Speaker 2: I love is she said, we have nothing to lose
- 14:17Speaker 2: here except for throwing our best selves at the contest.
- 14:21Speaker 2: How good's that? And then they just all went out
- 14:24Speaker 2: there and went, yep, let's do it. They missed one shot,
- 14:27Speaker 2: they had one hundred percent center pass to goal rate
- 14:30Speaker 2: and one hundred percent gain to goal rate and no turnovers. Wow,
- 14:34Speaker 2: in the last fifteen minutes. It was so clean and
- 14:38Speaker 2: that's how they did it. Crazy.
- 14:40Speaker 3: Problem for Somoni is what's she going to say next week?
- 14:43Speaker 1: Yeah? Well yeah, because it's important to remember too, this
- 14:46Speaker 1: team was down and out in about round six, wasn't it.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Round six? Round seven? It's like, oh, well that's out,
- 14:50Speaker 1: that's us done for the season. So it's a lovely
- 14:54Speaker 1: fairy tale. I just think it's wonderful. I would also
- 14:58Speaker 1: like to say, how good were the Swift turning that
- 15:01Speaker 1: around in that week? And I'm just I hope they
- 15:05Speaker 1: feel great about themselves because they did a sensational job.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Wish would have gone a different way, and I think
- 15:11Speaker 1: they were just outstrategized in the last sixty seconds, particularly
- 15:14Speaker 1: where the Vixen's just held onto that ball and it's
- 15:16Speaker 1: like we're going to get it and we're not going
- 15:18Speaker 1: to give them time to get one.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Day even that, that was the most incredible game awareness, yes,
- 15:24Speaker 2: that I've seen, because Kira Austin started playing it around them.
- 15:27Speaker 2: I was thinking, what is she doing. That's like, you're
- 15:30Speaker 2: even you still have to score, but she was just
- 15:33Speaker 2: trying to milk it as much as possible so they
- 15:35Speaker 2: didn't have the pressure of a two point shot, so
- 15:37Speaker 2: they could have just got enough time off the clock
- 15:40Speaker 2: to get the one easily and then Swift's no time.
- 15:43Speaker 2: I mean they did they because they've got a wiki.
- 15:45Speaker 2: You can't even give them four seconds, which I think
- 15:48Speaker 2: was left on the clock at the time. But just
- 15:50Speaker 2: that was incredible. Like Kira Austin was out of her
- 15:52Speaker 2: skin yesterday, as was Kate Maloney.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Bloody hell.
- 15:55Speaker 2: She had a good game. But yeah, to be able
- 15:58Speaker 2: to do it again next week will be a very
- 16:00Speaker 2: big challenge because they've lost both games to the Fever
- 16:03Speaker 2: this season, one by ten. One by eleven. But the
- 16:06Speaker 2: good thing for them is they only played them in
- 16:07Speaker 2: round fourteen, so it's still kind of fresh in their mind,
- 16:09Speaker 2: I think is helpful.
- 16:11Speaker 1: But going home finally correct.
- 16:13Speaker 3: With the super shot like ten or eleven's nothing. We
- 16:15Speaker 3: saw that yesterday in that last quarter like in times
- 16:18Speaker 3: gone by, eleven was enough to win the game, but
- 16:20Speaker 3: two or three super shots and the game suddenly in play.
- 16:23Speaker 3: He just felt that happening. I've got to say, when
- 16:26Speaker 3: the Vixens were playing it around in that last minute,
- 16:29Speaker 3: it was so clever. But it's so risky, isn't it.
- 16:31Speaker 3: Like every pass is an opportunity for someone to get
- 16:36Speaker 3: the ball right, every pass is an opportunity for a contest.
- 16:39Speaker 3: But they were so clever with it, and they what
- 16:42Speaker 3: they did really well. It wasn't just like a one out.
- 16:45Speaker 3: Every pass had two moves, right, so the defenders there
- 16:49Speaker 3: wasn't just one player they could converge on. So they
- 16:51Speaker 3: did it so brilliantly, and Sophie Garbin just kept Sarah
- 16:55Speaker 3: Cloud busy in the circle that whole time, just kept
- 16:58Speaker 3: on moving. It was a great sort of whole frontline
- 17:02Speaker 3: performance in that last sixty seconds to do it and
- 17:04Speaker 3: The thing is, that's been a very swift thing to
- 17:06Speaker 3: do over the years, watching them playing tight games. That's
- 17:10Speaker 3: what they do really well, and they just had it
- 17:13Speaker 3: done to them yesterday. I guess that's you know, imitation
- 17:16Speaker 3: is the sincerest form of flattery. It was just terrific.
- 17:18Speaker 3: You're so right, Catherine. It's just such good game awareness
- 17:20Speaker 3: and knowing exactly how much time is left, exactly what
- 17:24Speaker 3: you need to do, and having everyone on the same page.
- 17:27Speaker 3: And you don't get that by accident. They must have
- 17:29Speaker 3: spoken about that. This is a plan. This is what
- 17:31Speaker 3: happens if there's this much to go, if there's that
- 17:34Speaker 3: much to go. You don't get that just by one
- 17:37Speaker 3: person having a good idea with a minute remaining. You actually,
- 17:40Speaker 3: you know that because that's your plan.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Five of their last seven games they've won by three
- 17:46Speaker 2: or less, which I mean going into a grand final
- 17:50Speaker 2: is so good to know you can do.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Is it? And to come from behind? Yeah, and yeah,
- 17:56Speaker 1: that'll be interesting, won't it, Because you know, Fever have
- 18:00Speaker 1: had a relatively easy walk into the Grand final, So,
- 18:03Speaker 1: I mean they look amazing, but you know, the Vixen's
- 18:08Speaker 1: come in absolutely battle hardened, don't they. It's like they have.
- 18:12Speaker 1: They've really proven to themselves that they can do amazing things.
- 18:15Speaker 1: So and they're at home, and.
- 18:17Speaker 2: I think, regardless of the result next week, they'll be
- 18:19Speaker 2: so proud of that. You got to be right. They
- 18:21Speaker 2: fought through two tough games, a two point win over
- 18:23Speaker 2: the Thunderbirds and then at one point win over the Swiss.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Can you believe that's the fourth preliminary final in a
- 18:29Speaker 2: row decided by one point?
- 18:32Speaker 3: Wow?
- 18:32Speaker 1: How crazy, isn't it?
- 18:33Speaker 3: That's amazing, isn't it.
- 18:34Speaker 1: The Fever lost two in a row by a point,
- 18:37Speaker 1: didn't they?
- 18:39Speaker 2: Was it in a row? I can't remember? But the
- 18:42Speaker 2: Vixens were in two of those.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Wow?
- 18:44Speaker 2: Yeah, nuts.
- 18:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Look, I would hope that they feel good about it,
- 18:48Speaker 1: but I suspect a lot of them will be going
- 18:50Speaker 1: back to a Grand Final that they didn't get the
- 18:52Speaker 1: result they wanted last year. So it's like, I don't know,
- 18:55Speaker 1: I just I'm really looking forward to next week's game.
- 18:58Speaker 1: I hope if those two teams play the way we've
- 19:00Speaker 1: seen them both play in the last couple of weeks,
- 19:02Speaker 1: It's going to be a hell of a game of netball.
- 19:04Speaker 1: I'm so excited. What do we know about Hannah Monday.
- 19:06Speaker 1: So someone was asking in the Facebook group. They said
- 19:08Speaker 1: they saw Hannah Monday jumping up and down beside the
- 19:11Speaker 1: behind the bench and like, does that mean, you know,
- 19:13Speaker 1: is the foot okay? Could she be back?
- 19:17Speaker 2: That'd be great? Well it was only I mean, it
- 19:20Speaker 2: wasn't sixty minutes and jumping up and down? Was it?
- 19:22Speaker 2: It was a little bit. I can't. Like. We'd love
- 19:24Speaker 2: to think so. I don't think so, though, because when
- 19:27Speaker 2: they were talking about it when it happened at the time,
- 19:29Speaker 2: they weren't making out that she was going to be
- 19:31Speaker 2: back this season. We'll see, but lucky the Swifts didn't
- 19:34Speaker 2: win through though, because Paige Hadley was hobbling right throughout
- 19:38Speaker 2: that game. So what a massive effort for her just
- 19:41Speaker 2: to even get out there for that and push through,
- 19:43Speaker 2: obviously in pain. What did the week look like if
- 19:46Speaker 2: she had to then probably not train in the lead
- 19:49Speaker 2: up to the Grand Final, or might have been pumped
- 19:51Speaker 2: full of needles or who knows to get her through
- 19:54Speaker 2: that last sixty minute. So God, what a trooper just
- 19:56Speaker 2: to even perform for the sixty minutes that she did
- 19:58Speaker 2: on the weekend.
- 19:59Speaker 1: And I will say fans who didn't go out there yesterday.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Like I can understand, we haven't had a win at
- 20:04Speaker 1: home in ages. It's been a bit deflating to keep
- 20:06Speaker 1: going out. But I'm so glad I was there for
- 20:08Speaker 1: that game yesterday. It was fantastic. There is nothing like
- 20:12Speaker 1: being in the room. It's really well worth going to Katherine. Honestly,
- 20:18Speaker 1: you're so biased towards the Swift all of your commentary apparently,
- 20:22Speaker 1: And can I just say before you accuse Katherine of
- 20:26Speaker 1: commentary bias, and Kath has been accused of commentary bias
- 20:29Speaker 1: for every single team, so has Sue. But Catherine, did
- 20:33Speaker 1: you finish your career with a premiership win with.
- 20:38Speaker 2: The vis I did? I did, And I think people
- 20:43Speaker 2: I don't know if people get confused with bias being
- 20:46Speaker 2: I want a good game, so ultimately I'm cheering for
- 20:49Speaker 2: whoever's not winning at the time. It doesn't matter who
- 20:52Speaker 2: it is. But we in commentary don't want to blow out.
- 20:56Speaker 2: We want to close game.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 20:58Speaker 2: But also I just laughed that I think people will
- 21:00Speaker 2: forget my exit from the Swifts was not pretty at
- 21:02Speaker 2: all at all.
- 21:04Speaker 3: I also reckon that accusing you of bias really is
- 21:07Speaker 3: like accusing you of having no integrity, Like you go
- 21:10Speaker 3: into commentary to do a good job, but at the
- 21:13Speaker 3: end of the day, it's your professional good name that
- 21:17Speaker 3: you put on the line every time you were sitting
- 21:19Speaker 3: in front of a microphone and do your analysis and
- 21:21Speaker 3: do your work. It's I used to get it as well.
- 21:24Speaker 3: And I remember once for the twenty fifteen World Cup,
- 21:27Speaker 3: we were the host broadcasters, so and I commentated the
- 21:31Speaker 3: final with Jenny Jenny Woods. Jenny Woods right, and I commentated.
- 21:36Speaker 1: It's not frettwell now.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Sorry, he's counting my relation. That would be funny, wouldn't it.
- 21:46Speaker 3: And I was really working hard to be bias. And
- 21:50Speaker 3: then this person this is back when I was on
- 21:52Speaker 3: Twitter before it turned into a sesspool and I deleted
- 21:54Speaker 3: my account. But this woman from New Zealand really started
- 21:59Speaker 3: having a crack at me on socials. And after the
- 22:01Speaker 3: game I went back to and I said, it's not
- 22:03Speaker 3: and she was having a crack at me for not
- 22:04Speaker 3: cheering for the Ferns. If you're going to be commentating
- 22:07Speaker 3: into New Zealand, you really need to give the Ferns
- 22:09Speaker 3: more love because everyone's supporting them. And I went back
- 22:12Speaker 3: to and I said, God, like that broadcast was going
- 22:14Speaker 3: to Australia and New Zealand. It's actually not my job,
- 22:16Speaker 3: was commentated to cheer for the fans, and she couldn't
- 22:18Speaker 3: see it. Eventually, I just abandoned the conversation. Obviously she
- 22:22Speaker 3: was really upset because New Zealand lost and whatever. But
- 22:25Speaker 3: nobody turns up to work thinking today, I'm going to
- 22:28Speaker 3: impugne my integrity by being biased, or I'm going to
- 22:31Speaker 3: impure my integrity by not doing a good job. Like
- 22:34Speaker 3: that's particularly work in such a public facing role. So
- 22:38Speaker 3: I see that stuff written about you, Catherine or about Gordie,
- 22:42Speaker 3: Whereas I sit there and I think you're both remarkable.
- 22:44Speaker 3: How I think you're really impartial, And I've got to say,
- 22:47Speaker 3: just also a side note, I thought Joe Harten was
- 22:49Speaker 3: a great addition to commentary yesterday.
- 22:51Speaker 2: I thought, yeah, god, she's got some great insights, doesn't she.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Yeah, really good insights and so and what Fox have
- 22:57Speaker 3: done really well this year is included current players. So
- 23:01Speaker 3: you start to see their personalities and I think they've
- 23:03Speaker 3: all done a really good job and turned up and
- 23:06Speaker 3: like not be biased, just tell people what they know
- 23:09Speaker 3: about the game. So I've got to say, if you're
- 23:11Speaker 3: going to be a keyboard warrior and get online and
- 23:13Speaker 3: win about the commentating commentators being biased, Maybe take a
- 23:16Speaker 3: big deep breath and thank you for coming to my
- 23:19Speaker 3: ted talk.
- 23:19Speaker 2: I got a very lengthy message from someone last week
- 23:24Speaker 2: that was it was horrendous to the point I read
- 23:27Speaker 2: it and I laughed and I reported and deleted and blocked.
- 23:33Speaker 2: I was just like, I cannot this person telling me
- 23:36Speaker 2: that I just need to step aside and let somebody
- 23:37Speaker 2: else do it now. Give Yeah, that's delightful, Thank you.
- 23:42Speaker 3: I think your tops Coxie.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Yeah, that's good response.
- 23:46Speaker 3: Can we do a bit of a preview of the
- 23:48Speaker 3: Grand Final, Catherine, please? What will the difference in the
- 23:52Speaker 3: teams be?
- 23:53Speaker 1: They wear different colored dresses?
- 23:55Speaker 2: Yeah, that's good starting well.
- 23:56Speaker 1: I just thought i'd add my contribution with my expertise
- 24:00Speaker 1: quite early in the conversations. Yeah, thank you.
- 24:03Speaker 2: I feel like playing the Fever is hard because in
- 24:06Speaker 2: regular time I think they will beat you because you
- 24:09Speaker 2: can't stop Janille like she's shown that. I think you can.
- 24:13Speaker 2: You can stick with them and you can stay close.
- 24:16Speaker 2: But I feel like, I don't know. I feel like,
- 24:18Speaker 2: if you've got a decent super shot shooter in your game,
- 24:22Speaker 2: in your team. You should attack it early, not wait
- 24:26Speaker 2: till potentially down. But like in the in the first
- 24:29Speaker 2: quarter and the first like Power five have a crack
- 24:33Speaker 2: at some of them, it's hard to compete with them
- 24:36Speaker 2: if you let them just chip away and build on
- 24:38Speaker 2: you knowing how quickly they can score and how and
- 24:40Speaker 2: strong that attack line is. And I say that because
- 24:44Speaker 2: of the two results the Vixens have had on them
- 24:46Speaker 2: as well, like being double digits, And I wonder if
- 24:50Speaker 2: they'll go into it with a change of mindset on
- 24:52Speaker 2: how they attack the game.
- 24:55Speaker 3: That's interesting. We don't really see teams attack the super
- 24:57Speaker 3: shot unless say until they need to, until they behind correct.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Yeah, which is that a good thing? Is it a
- 25:03Speaker 2: bad thing? Is that just it's a necessary thing. Why
- 25:06Speaker 2: can you not if you've got a strong shooter, their
- 25:07Speaker 2: start to go for them early. So I don't know,
- 25:10Speaker 2: I just I just think there's there's also a great
- 25:13Speaker 2: difference in the depth in the two teams. Dan Ryan
- 25:16Speaker 2: will use his whole ten and he's got so much
- 25:19Speaker 2: depth and so much flexibility there that he'll change up
- 25:22Speaker 2: when he needs to. Samoe mckinness has proven that she
- 25:24Speaker 2: does not go to the bench and whilst that may
- 25:27Speaker 2: be a strength at the starting seven is working because
- 25:30Speaker 2: it's had heaps of time to gel. If it's not working,
- 25:32Speaker 2: what do they do? So they put Lily Graham on
- 25:35Speaker 2: yesterday only for a little while. She sunk two super shots,
- 25:38Speaker 2: which was also when she was there, But they and
- 25:41Speaker 2: they also actually did daboo Tara Watson, which was amazing
- 25:44Speaker 2: debooing in that game you're up against the Swifts in
- 25:48Speaker 2: the prelium final Welcome to super neple my God. But
- 25:51Speaker 2: she was good. She came on for a little bit
- 25:53Speaker 2: and did something. But that's not typically what you see.
- 25:55Speaker 2: So I don't know. I feel like that could also
- 25:57Speaker 2: be an issue for the Vixen's.
- 26:00Speaker 1: A couple of weeks ago, we were talking about Carrie
- 26:01Speaker 1: Wills having made a mistake in the last Firebirds game
- 26:05Speaker 1: in debuting that girl. So if if the Vixens had
- 26:08Speaker 1: lost yesterday, would it have been a mistake to bring
- 26:11Speaker 1: Tara Watson on?
- 26:12Speaker 2: No, because it was in the middle of the game, yep, okay,
- 26:14Speaker 2: and it wasn't right at the very end when it
- 26:17Speaker 2: was just extra pressure.
- 26:18Speaker 3: And that was.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Terrible, isn't it? Sorry, young woman?
- 26:23Speaker 2: Yeah, what do you think, Elizabeth? Who if you had
- 26:25Speaker 2: to just put your money on someone, Now, who would
- 26:27Speaker 2: it be.
- 26:29Speaker 3: I don't mean to pile pressure on it, but Kira Austin,
- 26:31Speaker 3: I think you're right around the super shot. I think
- 26:34Speaker 3: I hadn't thought about that, about attacking the supershot really
- 26:37Speaker 3: early and putting pressure on that way so you're not
- 26:39Speaker 3: trying to do it at the end. I also think
- 26:42Speaker 3: that everyone was so impressed by the Fevers performance over
- 26:47Speaker 3: the Swifts, and there was a lot of focus on
- 26:49Speaker 3: just how good Janille follon Embard played and just how
- 26:52Speaker 3: fit she looks and how amazing she's come back this season.
- 26:56Speaker 3: But I reckon what was really struck me about that
- 26:59Speaker 3: match how good the Fever were all the way down
- 27:03Speaker 3: the court and they're attacking. Rhythm really started from their
- 27:07Speaker 3: defenders and everyone was streaming down court, and the Swifts
- 27:11Speaker 3: didn't do anywhere near enough to bottle them up. And
- 27:13Speaker 3: I wonder if Kira Austin's such a great defensive player.
- 27:15Speaker 3: I think you guys talked yesterday and commentary cass about
- 27:18Speaker 3: the fact that she's got eight or nine intercepts to
- 27:21Speaker 3: her name this year. You know, very much like Sharal
- 27:23Speaker 3: McMahon was when she played in that goal attack position.
- 27:26Speaker 3: She was such a defensive threat, and I think Kira
- 27:29Speaker 3: is a real defensive threat, and I think her Kate
- 27:33Speaker 3: Maloney is a great defensive center. They've just got to
- 27:35Speaker 3: make sure that whoever's playing at wing attack really puts
- 27:38Speaker 3: the pressure on and Sophie Garbin as well. I think
- 27:41Speaker 3: if you can bottle Fever up in their defensive line
- 27:43Speaker 3: and upset their rhythm, then you might just put out
- 27:46Speaker 3: that attacking line. And it can't come down to hoping
- 27:50Speaker 3: that Rudy Ellis or whoever's a goalkeeper can get up
- 27:53Speaker 3: and get the ball, because there's not a player in
- 27:55Speaker 3: this league who can do that. One who can win
- 27:57Speaker 3: that contest one on one. The work has to be
- 27:59Speaker 3: done from out. Make Fever start to throw in that
- 28:02Speaker 3: longer ball and then your goalkeeper is going to have
- 28:06Speaker 3: a chance to get up. You saw, yes, say that
- 28:08Speaker 3: Rudy Ellis was able to win those one on ones
- 28:09Speaker 3: against Graysnweki when the ball was thrown from up near
- 28:14Speaker 3: the transverse line. But that's a heck of a lot
- 28:16Speaker 3: of work for the front line in the mid court
- 28:18Speaker 3: to do. Having said that, it's your last sixty minutes,
- 28:20Speaker 3: it's the last sixty minutes of your coach's coaching career,
- 28:23Speaker 3: So why not just throw everything at it? But I
- 28:25Speaker 3: think you know, it feels like the way we're talking
- 28:28Speaker 3: is that for Vixen's they've got to go out and
- 28:30Speaker 3: figure out a way to win it because Fever are
- 28:32Speaker 3: really sitting quite pretty at the moment. They've had a
- 28:34Speaker 3: really great run in. They were unbelievable in that semi
- 28:37Speaker 3: and now you've got to have a way to go
- 28:39Speaker 3: at it and disrupt their rhythm. So it's going to
- 28:41Speaker 3: be really interesting, isn't it. I don't know. I feel
- 28:45Speaker 3: like it's Fevers to lose. But the way that the
- 28:47Speaker 3: Vixens have finished the season and have come in hot
- 28:50Speaker 3: to this Grand Final, I reckon it's going to be
- 28:51Speaker 3: a closer game than a lot of people have thinking.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Yes, me too. Well, we can only hope that, can't
- 28:55Speaker 2: we because it's a Grand Final. But you're right about
- 28:58Speaker 2: that West Coast Fever performance. Because how they do a
- 29:00Speaker 2: net points team of the Week, every player was a
- 29:03Speaker 2: West Coast player, so it's not just a Neil, it's everybody.
- 29:06Speaker 2: Everybody was doing their job that in that game. I
- 29:09Speaker 2: think it was only here Austin was the only Vixen
- 29:12Speaker 2: from that weekend that was in there in the Team
- 29:15Speaker 2: of the week. Otherwise it was all green Wow.
- 29:18Speaker 3: And it's going to be a huge home Crown of
- 29:19Speaker 3: Vartage for Vixens. I suspect the Grand Final will sell
- 29:21Speaker 3: out and it'll be a lot of people tuning for
- 29:24Speaker 3: the vix Rod.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Laverina exciting fourteen thousand, I think, isn't it?
- 29:30Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 29:30Speaker 2: Whoa and everybody? Game time? Is it seven thirty with
- 29:34Speaker 2: the broadcast studying six because it was a two game.
- 29:39Speaker 1: The great thing about seeing the Vixens do well is
- 29:42Speaker 1: it bodes well for the Diamonds, doesn't it. It's just
- 29:45Speaker 1: when they're doing well, it's like there's so many of
- 29:47Speaker 1: them are who are integral parts of our Diamonds team?
- 29:50Speaker 2: Can I talk about that? Then it's not the Diamonds.
- 29:52Speaker 2: But it just made me think of it when you
- 29:53Speaker 2: mentioned the country. So New Zealand eligibility rules interesting have
- 29:58Speaker 2: changed now. I find this fascinating. We talked about it yesterday.
- 30:02Speaker 2: I'm a little nervous as to what this now means
- 30:05Speaker 2: for Aussie homegrown talent and if there's going to be
- 30:08Speaker 2: room for them. But Bianca was saying on Pivot last
- 30:11Speaker 2: night that the understanding on players being able to come
- 30:15Speaker 2: and play in Australia in terms of the New Zealand
- 30:18Speaker 2: players is that they have to seek permission. They've got
- 30:23Speaker 2: to sit down and have the conversation with Neble New
- 30:25Speaker 2: Zealand or no Intel Council of Elders well, basically to
- 30:30Speaker 2: see if it's a good decision in their career or not,
- 30:32Speaker 2: which I think is good. So, I mean our immediate
- 30:35Speaker 2: thought was I think everybody thought it was just going
- 30:37Speaker 2: to be a free for all, were going to lose
- 30:38Speaker 2: all our Aussie talent. But it sounds like there's some
- 30:41Speaker 2: structures in place in but I was wondering if it
- 30:45Speaker 2: may at some stage need to bring back a limit
- 30:49Speaker 2: on imports, Liz, like we used to have back in
- 30:51Speaker 2: the day.
- 30:52Speaker 1: So when you say a limit on imports, that it's
- 30:54Speaker 1: like each team can have a maximum of three international plays.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Back in A and Z, I think it was start.
- 31:00Speaker 2: So when we were playing New Zealand, we were doing
- 31:02Speaker 2: across the transtasment, we had a limit of two imports
- 31:06Speaker 2: per team and if it is three, maybe it's three
- 31:09Speaker 2: that aren't in the same position. Just to make sure
- 31:12Speaker 2: that you are you know, you're balancing your team out
- 31:14Speaker 2: and you're giving plenty of opportunity to local players. But
- 31:17Speaker 2: Biancher Chatfill made a very good point too, in that
- 31:19Speaker 2: your reserves competition just needs to be stronger and it's
- 31:22Speaker 2: got to offer more opportunities for those players and pathways
- 31:26Speaker 2: for those players to be able to get there.
- 31:27Speaker 3: Man, it's a hard one, right, isn't it, Because if
- 31:29Speaker 3: you want to really go hard and say that it's
- 31:30Speaker 3: the best league in the world, you've got to you
- 31:33Speaker 3: got to have unlimited, But then you do have to
- 31:34Speaker 3: invest in your next level down. So these are all
- 31:38Speaker 3: the things that we're currently thinking about and grappling with
- 31:41Speaker 3: as we think about what the next broadcast deal will
- 31:43Speaker 3: look like, what the next iteration of super Netball will
- 31:45Speaker 3: look like. They're all tough decisions that have to be
- 31:48Speaker 3: made and to weigh it all up. You know, one
- 31:51Speaker 3: of the things about Super Netball since its inception with
- 31:55Speaker 3: unlimited imports is that we've seen the rest of the
- 31:57Speaker 3: world improve. Yeah, which is fantastic because I think international
- 32:02Speaker 3: netball is really exciting when it's not just Australia and
- 32:06Speaker 3: New Zealand going to be in the final. So there's
- 32:09Speaker 3: a couple of things. There's a lot of things to
- 32:11Speaker 3: sort of be tacking into a can and it really
- 32:13Speaker 3: just becomes a balancing act. You know, what do you want,
- 32:15Speaker 3: what are your long term goals, what's your strategy? How
- 32:17Speaker 3: are you going to achieve it? And that's just one
- 32:19Speaker 3: of the things you can think about. What lever do
- 32:21Speaker 3: you pull in that regard if any.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Great for New Zealand netball though, and good on grace Wiki.
- 32:25Speaker 2: I mean, this whole conversation has happened because she was
- 32:27Speaker 2: the one that steps outside of comfort zone, makes a
- 32:30Speaker 2: big decision to go and play, risks the chance of
- 32:33Speaker 2: not playing for her country again. But that's where it's
- 32:35Speaker 2: all come from.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Yesterday she was really bringing the energy. Every time there
- 32:39Speaker 1: was a tactical time out, she was running back high energy,
- 32:43Speaker 1: talking to the team, bringing it and she's obviously been
- 32:47Speaker 1: to some dark places in the last week and it
- 32:49Speaker 1: was just it was just great to see. It's just
- 32:51Speaker 1: it's very exciting.
- 32:53Speaker 2: And not forgetting she's twenty three, twenty three, Like we
- 32:55Speaker 2: just we think she's thirty five the way she plays,
- 32:58Speaker 2: but she can you imagine the future she's gone. If
- 33:01Speaker 2: he's already been playing that. Well, you wonder how much
- 33:05Speaker 2: she's going over and over and over that decision to
- 33:08Speaker 2: pass off Helen at the last bit of the game, though,
- 33:12Speaker 2: don't you, because it ultimately meant that Helen had to
- 33:14Speaker 2: rush a shot when Grace probably could have set and
- 33:17Speaker 2: had a good one. But I mean, god, we've all
- 33:19Speaker 2: been there for out the man of mistakes. I've made
- 33:21Speaker 2: those pressure cooker moments.
- 33:23Speaker 3: Oh yeah. And that's just about game awareness, right, which
- 33:26Speaker 3: comes often with maturity.
- 33:27Speaker 2: Correct, But think about the swifts for the future, my god.
- 33:30Speaker 2: Like briani Akle said last week, that winning games is great,
- 33:34Speaker 2: and the winning of the eight in the row was
- 33:35Speaker 2: fantastic the first round of the season, but you don't
- 33:37Speaker 2: learn much, she said, the second half of the season.
- 33:40Speaker 2: What they've learned is an unbelievable amount about themselves, about
- 33:45Speaker 2: the way they play, about what they need to improve on.
- 33:47Speaker 2: So you think about all that knowledge now going into
- 33:50Speaker 2: next season. If they can keep the majority of that team,
- 33:53Speaker 2: they're going to be formidable, phenomenal.
- 33:55Speaker 1: But that's the exciting thing. We've got the Grand Final
- 33:57Speaker 1: this Saturday, but as of Monday off, let's start contracting players.
- 34:02Speaker 1: And that's a really fun time with you two.
- 34:04Speaker 2: Well, because they've already been talking to their own team,
- 34:07Speaker 2: their own clubs. Obviously, there's still not been a whole
- 34:09Speaker 2: heap of announcements, which I'll find interesting.
- 34:11Speaker 1: So I feel like price is a big one, isn't it.
- 34:13Speaker 1: That's a bit that's big. I mean, it's not really
- 34:15Speaker 1: that surprising, but it's big news. Hannah Petties retire. Yeah,
- 34:19Speaker 1: is that surprise surprising to me?
- 34:21Speaker 3: Now?
- 34:21Speaker 2: Well, she's been around a long time, she's been in
- 34:23Speaker 2: the club for ten years.
- 34:25Speaker 3: I was surprised because I think everyone all these players
- 34:27Speaker 3: are like twenty two and then still.
- 34:30Speaker 2: Oh yeah, well they are compared to us twenty two.
- 34:35Speaker 2: But I reckon there'll be a free for all and
- 34:38Speaker 2: there'll be just a flow of announcement coming very soon,
- 34:41Speaker 2: probably after the Grand Final. People might be waiting. But
- 34:44Speaker 2: what I find interesting is there's a lot of head
- 34:47Speaker 2: coaches that haven't been announced yet. Who's signing on to
- 34:50Speaker 2: a club when they don't know who the head coach is.
- 34:53Speaker 2: I don't know that I'd be game enough to do
- 34:55Speaker 2: that unless the dollar was fibulous. But Tracy Neville Mavericks
- 35:02Speaker 2: haven't signed their head coach obviously, Julie Fitzgerald's left the Giants.
- 35:04Speaker 2: There's no head coach announced there the Vixen's of Samoe mcinness.
- 35:09Speaker 2: So when do these coach announcements come, they'd want to
- 35:12Speaker 2: be doing them quickly. I think if they then want
- 35:14Speaker 2: to go out to the rest of the league and
- 35:16Speaker 2: find players to fill gaps.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Is Tracy Neville leaving or just hasn't been resigned yet?
- 35:21Speaker 2: Well, could have been resigned in the last few weeks,
- 35:24Speaker 2: but she didn't have a contract for next year, so
- 35:26Speaker 2: that conversation has to happen.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I am the sole person, the only person in
- 35:36Speaker 1: the world who knows the Dribbler's Hottest one hundred, and
- 35:40Speaker 1: it's not going to be Hottest one hundred. It's going
- 35:41Speaker 1: to be Hottest forty. I will be announcing that, are
- 35:45Speaker 1: be sharing that after our event because we will be
- 35:48Speaker 1: playing a playlist at our live event on Friday night
- 35:52Speaker 1: in Melbourne that is the Dribbler's Hottest one hundred, And
- 35:55Speaker 1: I will say, Dribblers, there is some overlap between our
- 35:59Speaker 1: Hottest one h hundred and the other hottest one hundred.
- 36:02Speaker 2: That was bloody hard, wasn't it. You text me? Can
- 36:06Speaker 2: you do this? Yeah? Sure, this will be easy.
- 36:08Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 36:09Speaker 2: And then there's so many songs and I was kacking
- 36:12Speaker 2: myself at some of them on the list, like I
- 36:14Speaker 2: think Daddy Minogue had one in there.
- 36:16Speaker 3: Where were strawberry kisses?
- 36:18Speaker 1: She was robbed? What about strawberry kisses? Good point? Yeah,
- 36:22Speaker 1: we'd be now forty year old Nicki Webster I done nearly.
- 36:26Speaker 3: For Nicki Webster is not forty. I refuse to believe
- 36:29Speaker 3: that she's I'll give you sixteen Max.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Yeah, got a child, so she's not sixty.
- 36:39Speaker 3: Do you know they're doing the top two hundred this
- 36:41Speaker 3: week on Double J. So the one hundred to two hundred.
- 36:45Speaker 2: Oh very good of Aussie songs.
- 36:46Speaker 3: Yeah, of Aussie songs. So I've been.
- 36:48Speaker 2: Listening to Nicki Webster might make the cut.
- 36:50Speaker 3: Maybe I'll let you know. I'll keep you updated.
- 36:55Speaker 2: I've got an important question for you. So one of
- 36:57Speaker 2: the highlights of our first live event in Sydney was
- 36:59Speaker 2: you standing up and doing a bit of a set.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Do we get the pleasure of that in Melbourne? Look?
- 37:05Speaker 1: Why not? By netball expertises, they wear different colored dresses,
- 37:10Speaker 1: so I should probably bring the razzle dazzle in some
- 37:13Speaker 1: other way. But yeah, I'll do that.
- 37:15Speaker 2: I'm excited and.
- 37:16Speaker 1: God he's joining us, which is great. So that's from
- 37:19Speaker 1: five to seven at the Sporting Globe in Richmond. We
- 37:21Speaker 1: are sold out, I'm sorry, but very much looking forward
- 37:24Speaker 1: to seeing everybody there. Yeah, that'll be good times, talking about.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Talking about the GF, talking.
- 37:30Speaker 1: About the GF.
- 37:32Speaker 3: How excitement.
- 37:33Speaker 1: And next week we will get back to having win
- 37:34Speaker 1: beneath our wings. But it's like it's season time. We're
- 37:38Speaker 1: we're just getting through the big stuff here at the moment.
- 37:40Speaker 1: But for those of you who were worried that I
- 37:42Speaker 1: was broken hearted yesterday, thank you. I appreciate it. I
- 37:45Speaker 1: did not go over the two gins that I had
- 37:48Speaker 1: allocated for myself at the and they were small, which
- 37:51Speaker 1: is why I got two rather than one. But I
- 37:54Speaker 1: had a wonderful time. I'm so glad I was there.
- 37:56Speaker 1: I'm so proud of the Swifts. I'm so excited for
- 37:58Speaker 1: the Vixens, and don't wait to go to a grand far.
- 38:01Speaker 1: Having had the weekend in sport that I've had where
- 38:03Speaker 1: teams that I care about did not get up and
- 38:07Speaker 1: were destroyed in the last seconds of the go I'm
- 38:10Speaker 1: really looking forward to going to a game and just
- 38:11Speaker 1: going knock yourselves out. Just give me a good game.
- 38:14Speaker 2: I'm happy that ball's the winner.
- 38:15Speaker 1: That's the winner.
- 38:18Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 38:19Speaker 1: So we'll be seeing each other on Friday night in
- 38:21Speaker 1: Melbourne and we'll be seeing dribbless come say hi if
- 38:24Speaker 1: you see us, and yeah, have a great week everyone.
- 38:27Speaker 3: Cal Bay GF we Hey Grand final weeks like Christmas
- 38:30Speaker 3: in it.
- 38:32Speaker 1: It is nice to be all back together again here
- 38:34Speaker 1: at No Dribble HQ.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Lizzellas will be wearing nothing but a bow. She will
- 38:38Speaker 2: be our Christmas present on Friday.
- 38:39Speaker 3: Can you imagine no one had turned up. I wouldn't
- 38:43Speaker 3: even turn up. Have a great week dribblers. But by
