- 0:00Hey sis, welcome to Girl Date the Good Guy podcast, the space where we strip
- 0:04away the noise and get real about toxic cycles, healing, and stepping into the love God has for us.
- 0:10I'm your host, Emily Jordan, and I've been where you are, heartbroken,
- 0:14confused, and chasing love that didn't come.
- 0:23Hey sis, today I'm opening up about something deeply personal.
- 0:28My journey through not just one, but two divorces. Yeah, you heard that right.
- 0:33I know what it feels like to have your dream of marriage shattered. Not once, but twice.
- 0:38And I also know what it's like to sit in the rubble and wonder,
- 0:41Lord, how did I get here again?
- 0:44If you've ever felt defeated, overlooked, or just plain tired of heartbreak, this one is for you.
- 0:51After my second divorce, I was broken. completely defeated.
- 0:55I remember sitting with myself thinking, how did I manage to have two felled marriages?
- 1:01My dream, the dream I prayed for, the dream I thought God was in, had been crushed twice.
- 1:08But that's when God called me into a season of celibacy. And let me tell you, I was so ready.
- 1:14I didn't need another relationship.
- 1:16I needed a break. I needed healing. I needed to stop repeating the same painful
- 1:22cycle. And maybe you do too.
- 1:25Sometimes God pulls us away from people so he can pull us closer to him.
- 1:30My first marriage. Woo, that was a crash course in how not to do marriage.
- 1:35I was young, I didn't know much biblical truth, and honestly,
- 1:39it happened way too fast.
- 1:41It should never have been that fast. Here's the thing.
- 1:45Real lasting love is a slow burn,
- 1:47not a popcorn snack you toss in the microwave. I want to say that again.
- 1:52Real lasting love is a slow burn, not a popcorn snack you toss in the microwave.
- 1:59But too many of us are quick to jump into relationships without asking the most important question.
- 2:05God, is this your will for me?
- 2:08We don't discern character. We don't seek godly counsel. We just leap and then
- 2:13wonder why we end up flat on our faces.
- 2:16I learned the hard way that rushing love only rushes heartbreak.
- 2:22Now, my second marriage, let's just say that was a whole new level of pain.
- 2:27This man proclaimed to be a Christian, but his life was anything but Christ-like.
- 2:32I found myself in a toxic relationship with someone who wore the mask of faith,
- 2:36but had no fruit of the Spirit.
- 2:38It was like God saying to me, daughter, how many times do I have to show you
- 2:43that you can't save broken men with your love? You need my discernment.
- 2:48That marriage was my wilderness, the place where God stripped away the lies
- 2:52I was believing about myself, love, and marriage.
- 2:56Looking back now, I see that God wanted me to finally get it.
- 3:00To realize that not every man who says I'm a Christian is walking with Christ.
- 3:05To see that marriage is not about fulfilling my loneliness, but about partnering
- 3:10with someone who truly loves and honors God.
- 3:14Ladies, hear me. Before you hand over your heart, ask yourself,
- 3:18did I consult with God? Did I take time to discern?
- 3:23Did I allow my community of faith to speak truth into this decision?
- 3:27Because if not, you're setting yourself up for heartbreak.
- 3:31God isn't trying to withhold love from you. He's trying to protect you from counterfeits.
- 3:37So if you're listening today and you've been through heartbreak after heartbreak,
- 3:41maybe God is calling you to pause, to take a holy time out, to let him heal
- 3:46the patterns, expose the counterfeits, and prepare you for the good guy he actually has in store.
- 3:52I had to walk through two divorces to finally learn that lesson, but you don't have to.
- 3:58Lean into God's timing, his discernment, and his truth.
- 4:02Because sis, the good guy, the godly guy, is worth the wait.
- 4:07Thank you for tuning in to Girl Date the Good Guy. Until next time,
- 4:11keep your heart soft, your standards high, and your faith even higher. Thank you.
