[upbeat rock music] Ah, hoy, hoy, everybody.
• 0:16
It's, uh, Full Spectrum Cycling here in your ear. This is show number 191, back from a little bit of a break over the Thanksgiving holiday. Gobble, gobbles and whatever. Till you wobble, wobble. Yep.
• 0:30
Across from me over there, what you... Oh, the N- Ni- Nietzsche ebb shirt on is, is JK. Yes, it's, uh, a year and two weeks. Hockey is metal. And- Olaf... playing- Show, show your metal face.
• 0:44
[laughs] Playing the part of, uh, Mr. T Burger today is, uh, is James from across the hallway over there. A- AKA Wile E. Coyote. AKA Wile E. Coyote. Tony has a plumbing issue. I'll take that with, uh- [laughs]
• 0:58
It writes itself. Come on. It just da-da. James has been helping, uh, Tony over at his new digs, getting things working over there. The ma- the mansion. The [laughs] the River West mansion? Yes. [laughs] Yeah.
• 1:13
Well, I guess it's coming along, eh? Yeah, getting pretty close, um. I got my only ink of my life in the what? Dining room of said facility. Yes. Yes. Yeah, before it was a functioning- It's a-... a home unit. Yeah.
• 1:28
Yeah. Well, whatever. Yeah. This, like- Yeah... past year at the 24. Right. It's much more- Yeah... further along as a livability thing now- Oh, fair enough... than it was then, for sure. So Tony, hope things go well.
• 1:37
Uh, trying to get it ready for Cleon's something-eth birthday, s- 17- Yeah... maybe... a little birthday party. Yeah. Some kind of birthday party. So, uh, he'll probably be here next week, but who knows? Maybe not.
• 1:48
Tony's kind of a free and loose guy. Yeah, [laughs] fast and loose. So it's been, uh... What day- When was the last time we were doing this thing? It's been a couple weeks, had a couple weeks off.
• 1:57
I, I hate math, but- Yeah, it was before... two- And now it's-... and a half weeks... and now it's now. Yeah. Uh, so- What have you been doing? What's been going on? What you doing? [laughs] Whatever.
• 2:08
[laughs] You guys look like you put on a little bit of weight. I'm not gonna lie. [laughs] I've been on this- I mean, it was the holidays, and it was a big wasting period...
• 2:15
I've kinda been on this thing where like maybe a couple of days I don't eat very much at all, like maybe just a quick couple pieces of toast for breakfast, and then the third day it's, like, just pile it in there.
• 2:25
Uh-huh. It's kinda weird 'cause sometimes the belly is like a baby, and sometimes- [laughs] [laughs] Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah. I- it's a baby once. Sometimes it's not. [laughs] I'm a, I'm a tight-braced drum.
• 2:35
I mean, it's like always like ding, ding, ding. I mean, it'll go out there, but- [laughs] Yeah, there's a six-pack behind the 12-pack... exactly.
• 2:42
You know, this is just the- [laughs] Winter is coming, as the winds told me today. Who am I kidding? 12-pack, more like a 30-rack. 30-rack. [laughs] Yeah, so I don't, uh, I don't even remember what happened.
• 2:54
We, we took a break because the holidays- The holidays were coming up. Yeah... there was, like, shit to do and- Yeah. Yeah.
• 3:00
So, uh- 'Cause normally in, okay, Behind the Curtain, it's Wednesdays we release this, and being a Thursday being the turkey day, you know, we've done it before- Yeah... when, when we've had shit work.
• 3:11
And we're gonna do it again, too, coming up. [laughs] Yeah. Fair enough. Yeah. I think we'll take the week off between Christmas and New Year's too probably. I don't know. Yeah.
• 3:18
It's like, you know, we do this for you people every week pretty much, and sometimes we just need some us time or me time. Yeah.
• 3:28
And, uh, yeah, so the, the Wednesday before, which would've been a recording day, the turkey holiday, uh, and I'm reminding you now that James is also in the same space where the bike shop is.
• 3:41
We got a nice little gift, a little Thanksgiving treat on the door- Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah... of our building. [laughs] That's why we're calling this The Trespassing Edition of the radio show. Yes. Be very, very quiet.
• 3:50
[laughs] Yeah, so okay, so- We're gonna have to drill out the locks... with- without reading the whole thing and understanding that it's not legal in any legal sense apparently, uh, there was a sign that said...
• 4:02
And this is right before Thanksgiving, so we're getting ready to shut down, we're getting ready to have a good time with the family and whatever, whatever.
• 4:08
"Please take notice that the landlord has retaken the pur- premises pursuant to this lease agreement," which we have a master lease holder that we lease from.
• 4:16
Apparently, there's some animosity between the building owners and the master lease holder, and we got caught in the middle.
• 4:21
But essentially, it says, "Do not enter the premises," and, uh, you have to be out and all your personal property has to be out by November 30th, which, spoiler alert, is today- Yeah...
• 4:32
Wednesday the 30th, while we do this show. So needless to say- Hey, who is that? No.
• 4:38
[laughs] [laughs] I'm putting them right up in front of that, that, the, the furnace that James got working today, which is now heating- I, I know how to use a bike as a weapon... heating the shop up.
• 4:46
I've done it before- Yes... to Bozo too, so. [laughs] I know how to use a hawk as a weapon. [laughs] Ha, ha. Hey. Ha, ha. Ha, ha. We'll talk about that in just a few minutes.
• 4:54
But anyway- Everything just dovetails into each other... right? It's so, it, the show just about writes itself. My goodness- [laughs]... it's been two weeks? Are you kidding me? Brr. We have so much to talk about.
• 5:02
So yeah, uh, we're trying to work through this so that we can continue to do business as the businesses that we do in here.
• 5:10
And apparently, it's more of a smokescreen, subterfuge to irritate the master lease holder than really make us run away, but- Yeah, we're- I'll tell you what.
• 5:20
Y- you, you don't have a whole lot of recourse on the day before a holiday. It's like it't, it just gives you the kinda the heebie. You're like, "What the hell? Now okay, my lawyer's not even available.
• 5:29
I can't even call the guy 'cause he's getting ready for Thanksgiving too." Which was by design. Yeah, I'm sure. We're just collateral damage here. Obviously. Yeah. We're just sort of caught in the crossfire.
• 5:38
But, uh, be that as it may, if you wanted to purchase some of the bulkier items from in the Everyday Cycles store, such as bicycles or things that would be hard to move, now would be the time 'cause I'd
• 5:49
get 'em outta here. You know, what the hell? I don't think we're gonna have to move, but if we did, it would be, uh, a challenge to do it in a week, let alone in a couple of days, so. Yeah.
• 5:58
We've had our- Buy some, buy some bikes so we don't have so many bikes in the bike shop. We've had our challenges along the way too. It's, uh- Certainly... found out how fast we can actually move. [laughs] Yeah.
• 6:06
  It's certainly been...
• 6:07
It, it, this, this has been an ongoing probably nine-month to a year situation that has- Just been simmering in that big stockpot on the back of the stove and then kinda spilled on the floor on Wednesday, so.
• 6:20
Yeah, a couple ploop, ploop- Oh. Oh, oh, I'm being attacked by a... What is it? What is this thing? [laughs] Oh, an acoustic panel. Oh, all right. Acoustic panel's trying to- Tell him, tell him...
• 6:28
it's trying, it's trying, oh, it's trying to take on the, the- [coughs]... state. That's actually what I've been doing the past two weeks. I've been- [sniffs] Sniffling? Sniffling and making- As well... stock. Yeah.
• 6:38
Oh, making soup stock? Oh, yeah, yeah. I mean, definitely with the, the tur- the turkey carcass soup. Oh, yeah. Yum, yum, yum. Which just makes a delicious name to it. Would you like some turkey carcass soup?
• 6:50
Yes, please. Now just take the turkey- Some, some will and some will be like, "Dude, [laughs] is there a better way to say that?" Is that like- I'm like, "No. Yes." Yeah. It's not how you- Yes. No, no, no.
• 6:57
This way I get you... Like, I, I weed 'em all out. Right. Yeah. [laughs] If, if you don't like it, then I get more for me. Mm-hmm. Stay away from my carcass. Exactly. Right.
• 7:06
Which is- That's like my, my pre-rolled cigarettes. Not for vegan consumption. [laughs] It's like, "Yes. If you want a cigarette, it's, like, slathered in my saliva. Here." Here you go. "You want one?"
• 7:14
[laughs] Yes, please. [laughs] And yeah, if they wanna jump in, eh, we'll love you. The, the weather in our fair state has been on the warm side. Yeah. [laughs] Except for, except for today. Re- relatively. Relatively.
• 7:27
It's a little windy out there, yeah. Windy and cool. But, uh- Feels like 14, I saw. [laughs] I know. Feels like, yeah. About- It was, it was windy and cold... that's what it felt like.
• 7:35
But, uh, so I, in the warm weather apparently, 'cause there's no ice on Lake Michigan yet to ride our fat bikes on, but several reports I've seen on the Book Face have mentioned the lowered level of the lake and the ability to do more beach riding than we've had in the last few years.
• 7:51
Good. So. Yeah, Mike, uh, Berta and Mike, Mike- Ah... uh, did a shot where leaned up against the rock going, "This rock was submerged last year." Right. Right, exactly. Kind of thing. [laughs] Yeah. Okay.
• 8:03
That, that was one of them. Yeah. And then somebody had been riding at, uh, Grant Park and, and, uh, up towards Port, I guess you can put together a 14-mile loop between the south and the north ones, so, you know.
• 8:14
And then once it freezes out there, then you got plenty of, plenty of riding area, but- Right... that's good to hear. I'm not saying we need global warming, but I'm not saying we don't need global warming,
• 8:23
um, to lower that lake level. Climate change. Whatever. Climate change. Yeah. It's always changing. It was warm yesterday. Now it's cold today. Global warming? How- Climate change... no, that's, that's weather.
• 8:33
What is this, 1986? [laughs] 1986? Are you reading a Newsweek for God sakes? Come on now. Come on, man. You know the difference between climate and weather. [laughs] Please. Do catch a critical thinking in here.
• 8:45
[laughs] Yeah. For sure. Uh, so, uh- Son Oh is who The Crosses are playing with. Oh, okay. Son Oh. The Crosses are playing. They're coming up. That's the old, uh, Die Kreuzen singer, Daniel.
• 8:57
Uh, and- Forget the Oh, it's Son. Son? Named after the guitar amplifiers. Nice. Oh. Son sh- And it's- Um-... it dooms. They doom? They doom. They doom. Where are they dooming? The Turner Hall. Oh, the Turner Hall.
• 9:11
That's a good venue. On a Monday. I may have to bite into that apple. It seems like it would be a good one. Considering- You don't get- Doors at 8:00, show at 9:00.
• 9:20
Don't get to see Dan that often, so- I just in the last week or so here got to see, uh, Pike for this versus the Automatons. Yes, and thank you for being my avatar on that one- Yes...
• 9:29
'cause I was on the fence and I fell on the stay home part of the fence. All right. There's some, uh- [laughs]... some local guys we know that got to open. Yeah. That was 20 Watt Tombstone. They're from Wausau. Mm-hmm.
• 9:40
Shout out, I mean. Wausau. Yeah. Yeah. W-A-U-S-A-U. Wausau. Wausau. Yes. Wausau. I mean, there was a lot that was drawing me to it, but there was a lot- Yeah... a lot of hurdles to get there. Yeah.
• 9:55
It wasn't a pleasant day to be riding. [laughs] No. And exactly. To be riding or to try to figure out some semblance of transportation- Yeah... at all. Transportation. I ended up driving, and I didn't want to. Yeah.
• 10:07
Yeah, yeah, yeah. [laughs] Transportation. All right. Pr- Hey, I can hear- Oh... I can hear the furnace. Making heat out there. Matthew Modine is screaming. Right. I'm gonna push the button. I got...
• 10:17
I, I'm pushing the button. Yes. Hey. Hey. You're... holy cow, a beep. Whoa. Welcome to the radio program, caller. Who do we have on the line? Are you guys live, and can you hear me is the question? I can hear you. Yep.
• 10:29
It sounds like you're driving. I am driving. I'm on my way down to the cabin. The cabin that's not on a lake? The cabin that's not on a lake, yeah. They got...
• 10:40
It, it's maybe on a lake now 'cause we got a lot of rain yesterday and icy stuff. Hmm. So we'll see if it's on a frozen lake maybe. [laughs] Nice. So what's, uh, what's new with Chewy? Yeah. Yeah. What's going on, Chewy?
• 10:52
Um, busy as always, that time of year. Um, not doing much riding right now. It's been kinda... Well, it's w- I'm getting tired of riding into the wind all the time.
• 11:01
It's like whichever way I'm going, I'm riding into the wind. Yes. Always a headwind. So, uh- Yes.
• 11:05
[laughs] Well, you, you're gonna be doing some riding for the, uh, the Santa Cycle Rampage coming up here, well, tomorrow, correct? Yes. Tomorrow. Yes.
• 11:16
You know, we're not starting till 11:00, so hopefully it warms up a bit. They're talking a high of 16, which would be a first for us to have, you know, weather not at least starting out in the 40s. So- Well...
• 11:28
it'll be a little different. So it'll be interesting to see how many show. Yeah. The route might be dependent on the weather somewhat. [laughs] All right. Wear an extra layer. [laughs] Um, yeah.
• 11:36
I, I always, I always look at it that way, that, you know, it's, it's gonna be dependent on the weather and, and the fact that snow or rain or something, not just cold.
• 11:44
So I think I've got to add a stop on the initial ride out to LTS because it's a five-mile ride, and, you know, I'd like people to be able to just not wear snowmobile suits over the top of their Santa outfits so we can actually see what we're riding.
• 11:59
So, um, I'll, uh, revise the route probably on, on Friday. Right on. I'll, I'll do a, I'll do a practice, I'll do a practice run Friday night. Good call. So- So this is happening up in, uh- Yeah...
• 12:10
Rochester, Minnesota there, folks. If you got nothing going on, uh, tomorrow, on Saturday, the, what is that, the 3rd? Uh, also a Global Fat Bike Day. Yeah. Yeah. It's- Yep. I'd like Global Fat Bike Day was on Sunday.
• 12:23
Yeah. That's what's- That's what, it, it's, it- That's what somebody- Yeah... called it It's officially, it's officially Saturday, really. There you go. It's the first Saturday in December- Yeah... always. Yeah.
• 12:31
And then- Nothing wrong with making a weekend of it... yeah, you can sometimes- Or a month [laughs]... stretch that into the, to the Sunday. Uh, so- [laughs] Yeah, so, so Santa- Um, are, are you guys coming to town?
• 12:41
We're, uh, Lunz and I are gonna come, uh, Friday night sometime, you know, early evening. You're coming tonight then. Tonight. So I better hurry up and get home. We'll, we'll be there tonight, yeah. All right.
• 12:52
You should, yeah, you're g- gonna have to make the round trip. Okay. [laughs] Um, so- Yeah. All right... so the, the ride doesn't start till 11:00 this year.
• 12:59
That gives us time to watch, uh, USA soccer, 'cause they've made it through to the knockout round now. Oh, yeah. That's good to- It's an 8:00 AM- Oh...
• 13:07
it's an 8:00 AM start on Saturday versus, uh, whoever the hell they're playing is. So- Uh, Netherlands... we can- Yeah, the Nether, the Netherlands. Yeah.
• 13:17
We could go to, we could go to the, watch it there at the hotel, or we could go to, uh, Brother's and watch it there. It might be kinda crowded. Yeah. I don't know. We'll have to see. It'll be interesting.
• 13:26
Could use breakfast and a soccer match. A proper English breakfast.
• 13:30
You know, and I don't know, I don't, Ro- Rochester's got a lot of kids playing soccer, but I don't, I can't honestly say how the bars have been doing, um, with, uh, you know, like parties watching the games or anything.
• 13:42
I know Little Thistle's always good doing something, so that's on our route, so he'll, he'll have soccer on all day, I'm sure. Um, he's from Ireland originally anyway, so that's kinda cool.
• 13:52
So, yeah, I mean, look, it'll, it'll change the day a little bit. You'll have something else to do other than just ride and drink. [laughs] I mean, that much. Well, yeah. Isn't that what we always do? [laughs] Right.
• 14:03
Um, yeah, so that, that ought to- Well-... uh, uh, an added layer to the, to the show of the, uh, Santa Cyclo Rampage, which in your, in your area, it's a benefit for Toys for Tots, correct? Correct, yep. Yep.
• 14:16
We're doing Toys for Tots. Yeah, we, uh, it, and it's a big day for them, too. Like, we're, uh, it's kinda cool. We're a small peanut compared to what everybody else does.
• 14:25
I mean, we fill a, a trailer full of toys and stuff, but uh, they appreciate the fact that we're dressed up riding our bicycles and, and they, um, they give us quite a good credit for what we do compared to a big store.
• 14:39
You know, there's some big drives on Saturday, so we're gonna be a bigger competition, but that's all right. As long as we get a lot of toys for the kids, it doesn't matter. Yeah, for sure. Um- [laughs]...
• 14:48
what are, what are you gonna ride? Do you have a, a steed picked out for the event? No. Well, I kinda always have to start out on a slick, because that's what's hooked up to the bob trailer, but I, [laughs]
• 14:59
I kinda think I have to ride the clunker when I leave, because it's kinda got, you know, we have to, we have to take care of last year and, and not shy away from the [laughs] shit that went on. Oh, yeah.
• 15:13
So, uh, yeah, so maybe, maybe a two-bike deal again. I might have to leave one at your place and then, and do the route, um, come along, then go back. But we, what did we do last year?
• 15:24
We, we took one back, back, and then went and picked up the other one, didn't we? Yeah, I think so. Or something like that. Yeah, something like that, but yeah, so we're...
• 15:30
Are you thinking clunk- It was something along like that... clunkers are the way to go versus anything, you know, or a fat bike, 'cause it's Global Fat Bike Day, I guess you could do, but- Yeah. Mm.
• 15:38
I, you know, we got, we g- we got about three, four inches of snow. Um, and it's, the streets are cleared off. It's not bad. It's a little icy and slippery, so skinny tires aren't gonna work. Yes. Um,
• 15:52
um, you know, we're supposed to get up in the 40s, uh, today, on Friday, so I don't know what that's gonna do. I don't know how much melting is actually gonna go on, so it could be...
• 16:03
It's not gonna be snowy, but it could be a little slippery out there.
• 16:06
I know the, uh, the good people of Rochester City, uh, Park Department were out plowing the trails this morning, so that's a travelor, so you know, we try to stay on bike trails and bike lanes as much as possible.
• 16:20
So the trail itself, the ride itself should be fairly clean of snow, uh, but there could be some ice, the only problem. Right on. Well, I think it's gonna be a fun event.
• 16:33
You know what ice does [laughs] you know what ice does to me and my ribs, so it, uh- [laughs] Yeah... uh. Yeah, wa- walls do things- I'll probably-... to your head and, and ice to your ribs, so- Yes... yeah.
• 16:44
[laughs] Did you get a new- So- Did you get a new costume now? I'll give everybody the come... I have a new Grinch mask. I had to do some, uh, some finagling. It's a, it's a different style.
• 16:55
You can actually hear me talk out of it now, whether that's a, a good or a bad thing. Um- [laughs]...
• 16:59
uh, it doesn't come off quite as easily, so there'll be some drinking through a mask going on, I'm afraid, so that'll be interesting. But yeah, uh, it's, it's cool.
• 17:07
It's, uh, it's a little more, it's a little less church piece than the other one. Right on. Yeah, I think it, you... Was that the one you had on in the picture you were slouching in the chair? Yep, yep.
• 17:19
That was the one, yeah. Right on. Been wondering how everything was gonna fit. So yeah, it's gonna be cool. I'm excited. Throw that, throw that in the show notes.
• 17:26
I was, I was a little kinda worried about coming down there, but, um, I'm, I'm happy to come. I'm happy to do it in town again. That'll be fun. Yeah, the one here is- It'll be a great...
• 17:33
just get- the one in Milwaukee is getting so big, and it's, it's in a, it's a police-escorted event now, and it's like- Right...
• 17:40
if you're gonna do it here, you kinda are gonna do it on your own if you wanna have fun, versus being part of the 2,000- Yeah... person parade of- Slow roll... silliness. Basically a shotgun start.
• 17:49
You're probably not gonna see 80% of the people that are on the ride, because everybody's just riding in a circle. [laughs] Yeah. Well, I think this year, I think Jake has installed some stops along the...
• 18:01
Because last time it was like, get to one stop, and then run back to Bay View. Yeah. And it was like, "That's not how I'd do it ever."
• 18:08
[laughs] Well, if you're doing it in Milwaukee, it, it starts at that- Never [laughs]... it starts at the Big Wheel and Sprocket down there where the bike fed now has their fancy new digs at, uh, uh, Bay- Beacher Street.
• 18:17
Beecher and Robinson. Le- Lin- Lincoln and whatever it is. Oh, wait. Yeah. Lincoln. That's right, yeah. Down there by the new- Or maybe Beecher... Big Wheel and Sprocket building. It's Beecher. Yeah, it's Beecher.
• 18:24
Is it Beecher? Beecher and Robinson. I used to live on Robinson there. Same thing. Yeah. It's on the si- Same... it's on the south side. Yeah. [laughs] Yeah. On the cusp of the Bay View. Right.
• 18:32
On the north end of the Bay View. Right, right. Right next to the railroad tracks. [laughs] Cool. All right, Chewy, well, we're looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. You got, uh, anything else before we- Sure...
• 18:41
let you get on the road there and drive? No, I would say so Back down into the valley, so I'm gonna lose you guys anyway. So I will see you all tomorrow. Thanks for everything, man. All right. All right.
• 18:50
We'll see you soon. Later, Chewy. Bye. All right, see you guys. Bye. Bye. Chewy, everybody. Chewy right there on the way to, uh, DeKoro or the- DeKoro?... house [laughs] or the cabin that's not on a lake is. Oh, okay.
• 19:03
Well, let's, uh... I- I pushed a button and it said you can't do that, so I'm gonna put a, push a different button, I guess. [laughs] Yeah. Oh, there we go. Hey, everybody, uh, I got it working now.
• 19:12
So, uh, yeah, so we're, uh, up there in Rochester. If you can make it, make it. If you can't, go wherever you go. And, uh, try and get a Santa Cycle Rampage thing going in your area, 'cause they're a lot of fun.
• 19:23
And, uh, that's one of the reasons why we're going up there, is just to kinda support a newer event and try and get some notoriety for it so that people kind of grow it in an area outside of Milwaukee. Yeah.
• 19:35
Uh, speaking of Milwaukee and growing Santa Cycle Rampage, I noticed that, uh, one of the original founders of it here, one of the first two guys to ride, Mr. Dave Schlabowski- Mm-hmm...
• 19:45
is going to be coming down and doing it. So if you wanna meet a real legend from the Milwaukee cycling community, Dave'll be in Milwaukee for that event. Yes, the...
• 19:54
And definitely will be at the Kohanski's, which was the way back in the day, when you started the thing, that was the end. Dave will be here, man. That was the end of the ride- [laughs]... I tell you.
• 20:07
[laughs] I mean, I've t- I, I mean, we, uh, you remember, we've tried to, like, do the original route. Yeah.
• 20:12
You know, start at Hollander and sashay all the way down to Kohanski's and then, then you figure out how to get home. Right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. [laughs] 'Cause it is- That's what you do... right. Yeah. You know? Yeah.
• 20:22
And, like, this thing is like, "Oh, no, it's just a lot easier if we all ring bells." [bell rings] Yay. [laughs] It's, it's, uh- Ding-ding-a-ling, ding-ding-a-ling... we think we went to the top of the hill. Here we are.
• 20:33
