- 0:13Speaker 1: This is Kevin Sports her daily here in Radio Folkston,
- 0:18Speaker 1: bringing you the second hour of a special London Marathon
- 0:21Speaker 1: a program. This how will be joined by the first
- 0:23Speaker 1: time marathoners Phil King and Lois Bennett. So don't go
- 0:27Speaker 1: away as they tell us about their journey to the
- 0:29Speaker 1: start line in London. So let's get cracking. And if
- 0:33Speaker 1: they're going up on the train, they want to make
- 0:36Speaker 1: sure that they don't miss the last train to London.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Never go there. I was trying to London Yellow and
- 1:03Speaker 1: they'll be heading up to London, some of them early
- 1:05Speaker 1: on the train. I was a staying overnight. So I'm
- 1:08Speaker 1: going to find out a little bit from our two
- 1:10Speaker 1: special gifts. So I'd like to welcome to the show Phil, Phil,
- 1:13Speaker 1: how are you feel King? How are you doing? Phil?
- 1:15Speaker 1: Good afternoon, I'm very well. Thanks, I'm good, good, good, excellent.
- 1:18Speaker 1: And Lois Lois Bennett, how are you?
- 1:20Speaker 2: Yeah? Good? Thank you?
- 1:21Speaker 1: Yeah? Are you ready for this? Lowis?
- 1:23Speaker 2: I think so?
- 1:24Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll we'll find out on Sunday afternoon. Yeah, yeah, okay.
- 1:28Speaker 1: So first of all, I'd like you to tell us
- 1:31Speaker 1: the charity that you're running for. Phil, how did you
- 1:34Speaker 1: get roped into the running the marathon and the charity.
- 1:38Speaker 3: So I've been I think i'll probably for the last
- 1:43Speaker 3: ten years or something, but never never been successful to
- 1:47Speaker 3: get into it. So yeah, this year it's my fortieth,
- 1:51Speaker 3: my fortieth year, so I was pretty determined. So I
- 1:54Speaker 3: went in with a charity called the Aspinall Foundation. I'm
- 1:57Speaker 3: sure many of your listeners are familiar with. They do
- 2:00Speaker 3: a lot of conservation work within dangered species rewilding in
- 2:04Speaker 3: the various parts of the world. Lewis's brother works there.
- 2:08Speaker 1: I just I just we just found out. Yeah, this
- 2:10Speaker 1: is great breaking news on air. So Lois Oliver actually
- 2:16Speaker 1: has been in before. He came in with your dad.
- 2:18Speaker 1: What it was about. It was he was organizing a
- 2:20Speaker 1: football tournament I think up in Hawkins. I'm sure you
- 2:23Speaker 1: jog your memory, but Lois, so tell us about what
- 2:27Speaker 1: about your sort of getting to the start line. You're
- 2:30Speaker 1: running for a charity. Tell us who you're running for.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I'm running for Shine. They support families and children with
- 2:37Speaker 2: hydrochfalus and spina BEFI.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Right, So, for I did look it up and I
- 2:41Speaker 1: know what it is. But just to explain what those
- 2:43Speaker 1: two are.
- 2:45Speaker 2: So my two youngest were born, we have hydrokefalus, which
- 2:49Speaker 2: is what people used to call fluid on the brain.
- 2:54Speaker 2: It's where the fluid doesn't flow through and it causes
- 2:57Speaker 2: their head to swear. It can cause brain damage. So yeah,
- 3:01Speaker 2: that's how I know about them, and that's why I
- 3:03Speaker 2: wanted to run for them.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Right And spina biffider is that just a sort of
- 3:08Speaker 1: side issue of anything.
- 3:10Speaker 2: You can have hydro caflis and spina biffider together. It
- 3:13Speaker 2: is quite common to have it together.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, Okay, we're going to find out a bit
- 3:17Speaker 1: more about the two charities that you were the one
- 3:19Speaker 1: charity and the two reasons that you're running it a
- 3:22Speaker 1: little bit moire later on, but for the moment, if
- 3:24Speaker 1: you don't mind, Lois, we're going to have a chat
- 3:26Speaker 1: with Phil because he's got to dash off to London.
- 3:28Speaker 1: He doesn't want to miss the last train to London.
- 3:30Speaker 1: So Phil, right, tell us a bit about your sporty background.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Was you sporty at school? Did you bunk off school
- 3:36Speaker 1: or did you have a fair ground? The bike said, I.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Was a very good I was a very good boy
- 3:39Speaker 3: at school actually, so I'm not local, so I'm from
- 3:42Speaker 3: Luton in Bedfordshire. I did go to quite a rough school,
- 3:45Speaker 3: I would say, but I was one of the better
- 3:47Speaker 3: behaved kids at school. I wasn't particularly sporty, not until
- 3:52Speaker 3: I played hockey. So when I started to playing hockey.
- 3:55Speaker 3: But down here or in Luton, which actually quite I
- 3:58Speaker 3: find it amazing here the number of kids playing hockey,
- 4:02Speaker 3: particularly boys in Luton. I can remember being one of
- 4:05Speaker 3: the only boys playing hockey. Yeah, I wasn't particularly sporty
- 4:11Speaker 3: other than playing a bit of hockey when I was.
- 4:13Speaker 3: When I was growing up, done a bit of running.
- 4:16Speaker 3: I used to think of myself as a runner. You know.
- 4:18Speaker 3: I'd maybe do five k every couple of weeks and think, yeah, yeah,
- 4:24Speaker 3: eighty k the other week. I know what a runner does.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Now, Well, your preparation has been a little bit well,
- 4:32Speaker 1: I suppose it's been nice really because you've been out
- 4:34Speaker 1: on about avenues or where you've been.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Where have I been running?
- 4:38Speaker 1: Oh?
- 4:39Speaker 3: Well, I just got back from the US for two weeks.
- 4:41Speaker 3: So it's my fortieth birthday last week, so I had
- 4:44Speaker 3: a big holiday in the US. I did some very
- 4:46Speaker 3: cool running there as you.
- 4:48Speaker 1: You did, as you mention, so what was the temperature like,
- 4:50Speaker 1: what sort of climate was your own?
- 4:52Speaker 3: So in Vegas. It was really hot. When I say
- 4:55Speaker 3: really hot, I mean it was twenty eight degrees, which
- 4:57Speaker 3: that is really hot, which is really hot to be
- 4:59Speaker 3: going for a a running full sun. And then I
- 5:02Speaker 3: did a run in Zion National Park, which was very,
- 5:06Speaker 3: very very cool. I feel very privileged to be able
- 5:08Speaker 3: to do that. I was expecting to be really warm,
- 5:11Speaker 3: but actually it was freezing, was it? So I went
- 5:13Speaker 3: out in my vest at that six a m. And yeah,
- 5:17Speaker 3: I was freezing, very cool.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Did you say many runners out, you know on the runs?
- 5:25Speaker 1: I mean running is global, I know, but I mean,
- 5:28Speaker 1: were you the only one out where you went?
- 5:31Speaker 3: Not in Zion? So I saw a few people in Zion,
- 5:34Speaker 3: and it was a few, like a hand and for
- 5:35Speaker 3: a six am in a holiday destination, everyone's sleeping in
- 5:39Speaker 3: in Vegas. I think I was the only one mad
- 5:41Speaker 3: enough to do it. It's not a great place for running.
- 5:45Speaker 3: There's lots of intersections, a lot of stopping and starting.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, okay, So but general in general, are
- 5:53Speaker 1: you up not up to speed? But are you kind
- 5:56Speaker 1: of have you done the mileage or are you you
- 6:00Speaker 1: kind of feel that you're a bit undertrained.
- 6:03Speaker 3: I'm optimistic. I was really disciplined with my training. I
- 6:09Speaker 3: don't know from about January February a few niggerly injuries
- 6:15Speaker 3: and I've been a little bit more patchy in March
- 6:18Speaker 3: and April. The holiday did disrupt it quite a bit. Yes,
- 6:22Speaker 3: I've got some money in okay.
- 6:25Speaker 1: So I mean on the day, what you're doing or
- 6:29Speaker 1: are you going up for the weekend? Tell us about that.
- 6:32Speaker 3: I'm going to be on the first train London, I
- 6:35Speaker 3: think on Sunday morning, which I think is six on
- 6:41Speaker 3: Sunday morning.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, what what time do you set up?
- 6:45Speaker 3: I'm a ten am, so one of the earlier waves,
- 6:50Speaker 3: which I thought i'd put in. So so how it works,
- 6:54Speaker 3: you put in your estimated time and then you get
- 6:57Speaker 3: put allocated into a wave based on based on when
- 7:00Speaker 3: you expect to finish. I thought i'd put in four
- 7:03Speaker 3: hours on my thing, but actually I put in three
- 7:05Speaker 3: and a half hours, which is usually optimistic. That's why
- 7:08Speaker 3: I'm in the early wave. We will see how that goes.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Right, And so are you going up on your own
- 7:14Speaker 1: or were your family.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Or I'll be going up on my own but yeah,
- 7:18Speaker 3: family were coming up later. So my wife, Sarah and
- 7:21Speaker 3: the and the girls is the another wis that well
- 7:24Speaker 3: were going up and I've got family coming down from
- 7:26Speaker 3: Luton as well, Okay, and my sister and her family.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Lots lots of people.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Good good. So was you celebrating Luton's win Wembley the other.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Day from the US? Actually that's a coincidence. So when
- 7:38Speaker 3: I was doing that run around Las Vegas, I was
- 7:41Speaker 3: listening to the Luton game on on my headphones at
- 7:44Speaker 3: the same time.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Well, I will tell you this that I spent seven
- 7:47Speaker 1: years in Luton really, yes, I was working at Voxhall
- 7:50Speaker 1: Motors back in the eighties and quite often used to
- 7:55Speaker 1: go to the town ground as we called it because
- 7:58Speaker 1: I used to play in foot in They called it
- 8:01Speaker 1: the North Holme Counties League and it was in the
- 8:03Speaker 1: Primier division. It was quite a tough division actually, and
- 8:07Speaker 1: they always had the finals of all the local football,
- 8:10Speaker 1: no matter whether you as juniors seniors. What was always
- 8:13Speaker 1: played on the town ground and I never played in one.
- 8:16Speaker 1: That's my biggest regret really, Yeah, yeah, that's yeah. I've
- 8:20Speaker 1: got a massive soft spot for Looton and I've been
- 8:23Speaker 1: going back there for years. Still got some friends up there.
- 8:26Speaker 1: But we won't talk about Looton we're going to talk
- 8:27Speaker 1: about London. We're talking about the London Marathon. So your journey,
- 8:34Speaker 1: you've got to the start line. You've got a charity,
- 8:36Speaker 1: But how many times did you put in the ballot
- 8:39Speaker 1: and that sort of thing? Did you ever try another
- 8:40Speaker 1: charity before think about it?
- 8:42Speaker 3: You know, I've thought about it quite. I've thought about
- 8:45Speaker 3: it quite a few times in terms of charity entries.
- 8:50Speaker 3: But be honest, it's quite a lot to have to raise,
- 8:54Speaker 3: you know, sort of two and a half plus one
- 8:57Speaker 3: thousand pounds and put that on your family and friends
- 9:00Speaker 3: a little bit, you know, effect to you asking someone
- 9:01Speaker 3: else to pay for your your enjoyment. Unless you, you know,
- 9:04Speaker 3: like yourself, you've got a charity that like you really,
- 9:06Speaker 3: you know, it's really close to your heart. I haven't
- 9:08Speaker 3: really got anything that's really really close to close to
- 9:12Speaker 3: my heart.
- 9:12Speaker 1: How did you did you do any events? Or are
- 9:14Speaker 1: you just relying on.
- 9:17Speaker 2: No?
- 9:18Speaker 3: Literally just friends, friends and family, people from work. I've
- 9:22Speaker 3: been quite fortunate in that I've got some some people
- 9:26Speaker 3: have been very generous.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, we're going to take a little music break
- 9:30Speaker 1: now and let's just check we've got the right song.
- 9:33Speaker 1: So we've got this song coming up next. So do
- 9:36Speaker 1: you want to tell us a little bit about this.
- 9:37Speaker 1: You're a hockey player, as we know.
- 9:39Speaker 3: Indeed I mentioned that the hockey player this is. This
- 9:41Speaker 3: song's a real focus and hockey club anthem and it's
- 9:47Speaker 3: the main line in there is How am I going
- 9:49Speaker 3: to be an optimist about this? Yeah, that's how I feel.
- 9:52Speaker 1: I will say that. I mean, I've been associated with
- 9:56Speaker 1: the hockey club for years and I it always makes
- 10:00Speaker 1: me chuckle if I go up there at Easter and
- 10:03Speaker 1: I'm going up there for just a pint and there's
- 10:06Speaker 1: all these ladies in there. They've got jugs. They filled
- 10:10Speaker 1: a jug up. It's like four or five pints in
- 10:11Speaker 1: the jug, but they do. They've they've had a great season.
- 10:16Speaker 1: I report on the hockey every week, and they've had
- 10:20Speaker 1: promotions the juniors under sixteens is just one. Anyway, would
- 10:24Speaker 1: you like to tell us what this song is called?
- 10:26Speaker 1: Please feel and any particular reason apart from being hockey player,
- 10:30Speaker 1: that you want it played.
- 10:32Speaker 3: Other than it being the hockey anthem the other reason?
- 10:35Speaker 1: But what is it?
- 10:37Speaker 3: I still POMPEII.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Ever listen to the hockey anthem, So that's still there.
- 11:09Speaker 1: The hockey anthem. I must remember that next time maybe
- 11:12Speaker 1: comes in music lois Do you run to music?
- 11:16Speaker 2: Yes? I do?
- 11:17Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, And I mean is it any special genre
- 11:21Speaker 1: of music your favorite or is it kind of music
- 11:23Speaker 1: that because music it was a beat changes just speed up.
- 11:28Speaker 2: I think that's the idea, but yeah, maybe not always,
- 11:31Speaker 2: especially when you get lost in your thoughts when you run.
- 11:33Speaker 1: In yeah, yeah, yeah right. I mean some people can't
- 11:37Speaker 1: run with that music. And I will say I've said
- 11:40Speaker 1: this the other day in the last interview, that if
- 11:43Speaker 1: you go to a structured race you can only wear
- 11:45Speaker 1: the bone conducting headphones. Yeah, because the idea is that
- 11:49Speaker 1: you can hear the marshals and that it is really
- 11:52Speaker 1: is a safety issue. And let's face it, I mean,
- 11:55Speaker 1: how many times have you ever nearly run somebody over
- 11:58Speaker 1: when they're on their phone with their headphones on just
- 12:01Speaker 1: about across the road? Bibe, get out a way. Oh
- 12:03Speaker 1: sorry sorry. So do you run to music field?
- 12:07Speaker 3: I do?
- 12:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:07Speaker 3: I'm a bit worried on Sunday because they say that
- 12:10Speaker 3: you're not meant to you know, you're meant to soak
- 12:12Speaker 3: in the atmosphere.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think I've done any running.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Without without music, bone conduction, I have got bone conduct
- 12:20Speaker 1: might just sort of I think I start off with
- 12:22Speaker 1: them and see how we go. Yeah, I think probably
- 12:24Speaker 1: you won't need you won't need the music to start
- 12:27Speaker 1: with because there is just so much going on, you know,
- 12:30Speaker 1: especially when there's like I've done to London, when there's
- 12:33Speaker 1: two waves of runners that actually gel and they meet
- 12:36Speaker 1: in the middle and off they go. You know, they've
- 12:38Speaker 1: all started at different times. And if you are looking
- 12:41Speaker 1: for what do you call it a pace, a pacer
- 12:44Speaker 1: who's got one of these flags, like four minutes you're
- 12:47Speaker 1: running along. I was running looking for a four hour time.
- 12:50Speaker 1: I was running along four hours and then I lost him.
- 12:53Speaker 1: The next thing I know, it was four hours thirty.
- 12:55Speaker 1: I thought, where'd he come from? But he came from
- 12:57Speaker 1: a different group, you know, a different time. So yeah,
- 13:00Speaker 1: music is important, and I mean especially when you know
- 13:03Speaker 1: you're feeling a bit bit claggy and it perhaps brings
- 13:08Speaker 1: back some happy memories. So twenty six miles of field,
- 13:12Speaker 1: what's the longest you've run?
- 13:15Speaker 3: IM not sure in miles I've done thirty four k
- 13:18Speaker 3: oh yeah.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Yeah, you're about ten k short. Yeah, it's forty two.
- 13:20Speaker 1: I think it is yeah, yeah, and I mean it
- 13:24Speaker 1: never happened to me. But hitting the wall is when
- 13:28Speaker 1: your body runs out of energy. And we were just
- 13:30Speaker 1: talking off about carbs and things like that, but I mean,
- 13:35Speaker 1: what's your what's your view on this car bloading and
- 13:40Speaker 1: diet and before before the race? Is it like spaghetti
- 13:44Speaker 1: for breakfast, dinner and bags of past.
- 13:49Speaker 3: As? We were just saying, I've done lots of reading,
- 13:54Speaker 3: lots and lots of prep on everything, and the one
- 13:56Speaker 3: thing I've not really looked at was carbload. It was
- 13:59Speaker 3: only like a couple of days ago that I looked
- 14:01Speaker 3: it up and yeah, so ten grams of carbs per
- 14:06Speaker 3: kilo of body weight, which for me would be I
- 14:10Speaker 3: was just saying, these guys off air would be about
- 14:14Speaker 3: five bags of pasta a day if I just if
- 14:18Speaker 3: I just state pasta, which has taken me spice pies
- 14:21Speaker 3: because I was quite looking forward to the carblading. Oh good,
- 14:24Speaker 3: I can have pizza today. Anyway, We shall see how
- 14:29Speaker 3: the next few days and if car loading goes.
- 14:32Speaker 1: If you cook spaghetti your pasta, you think, oh is
- 14:35Speaker 1: that enough, and you always put a bit more in
- 14:36Speaker 1: because you think it's not going to be enough, and
- 14:38Speaker 1: it's like rice, You cook rice and next thing you know,
- 14:41Speaker 1: the sortans borling over got so much rice in the pot?
- 14:44Speaker 1: Oh well we soon find out about that. So you're
- 14:48Speaker 1: running journey as it kind of affected your lifestyle. You've
- 14:53Speaker 1: got hockey that you've been playing. Was that because there's
- 14:56Speaker 1: a bit more, a bit more more fast faster than
- 15:00Speaker 1: the two sorts of training, Jill.
- 15:03Speaker 3: They don't know at all, so, especially especially at my age,
- 15:08Speaker 3: not that I'm particularly old, but at forty I found
- 15:11Speaker 3: it really difficult to play hockey and do the training alongside.
- 15:15Speaker 3: So yeah, lots of niggerly injuries all the way, all
- 15:18Speaker 3: the way through. I'm quite optimistic now I've come I've
- 15:21Speaker 3: come out the other side of it. We've not played
- 15:23Speaker 3: hockey for three or four weeks now, so you feel
- 15:26Speaker 3: a bit looser. Yeah, yeah, yeah, My hips are definitely
- 15:30Speaker 3: your hips. Don't lie when.
- 15:31Speaker 1: You're chips, Go to your hips. That's what they saying that. Yeah,
- 15:36Speaker 1: right now, before we go Phil, you've got to get
- 15:40Speaker 1: a train to London. But is there any people, particularly
- 15:44Speaker 1: people that you want to think have you been like
- 15:45Speaker 1: a running boar come home and spoke about the marathon
- 15:48Speaker 1: and they're going, oh, shut up, dad.
- 15:49Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I mean I joked about it when I
- 15:51Speaker 3: first signed up to it that I would talk about
- 15:54Speaker 3: the marathon a lot, but it has become basically a
- 15:56Speaker 3: whole new personality. I only talk about this with my
- 15:59Speaker 3: with my wife, with my kids, my mum, with all
- 16:02Speaker 3: of my friends. So yeah, thanks to all of them
- 16:04Speaker 3: for tolerating and humoring me with that, and also thanks
- 16:11Speaker 3: to all the people that have donated on my on
- 16:14Speaker 3: my just giving page for the y Yeah.
- 16:15Speaker 1: That's right, tell us about tell us give us the
- 16:19Speaker 1: actual just giving page so we can give it a
- 16:21Speaker 1: little plug. What is it?
- 16:23Speaker 3: So it's a just giving page and it's p K
- 16:25Speaker 3: Dash London Dash twenty twenty six.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Right, so we look out for that, and I'm hoping
- 16:30Speaker 1: to post all the people that have come in for
- 16:33Speaker 1: this two American specials, hoping to do one hit and
- 16:36Speaker 1: post all the just giving pages, right, Phil, Is there
- 16:40Speaker 1: anything else you want to tell us about your journey
- 16:42Speaker 1: or any any any other strange things that happened to
- 16:44Speaker 1: dur in America? Didn't get attacked by he's been mugged?
- 16:47Speaker 1: Why he's running to the met Las Vegas for your
- 16:50Speaker 1: gaming chips or anything?
- 16:52Speaker 3: There's been lots of strange. Yeah, probably too much to
- 16:57Speaker 3: the described here of what stays what happened says yeah,
- 17:01Speaker 3: well that was a family holiday. So's nothing really weird
- 17:03Speaker 3: of you.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Right Phil? Now, if you've got nothing else and we've
- 17:08Speaker 1: done all the thank you, we've got one more song
- 17:11Speaker 1: to play. And this is a belter. Excuse me? This
- 17:13Speaker 1: is a belter? Is there a little story behind this
- 17:15Speaker 1: one or is it just one that you love and
- 17:17Speaker 1: it makes you speed up when you're.
- 17:19Speaker 3: We were talking about Luton earlier. This this song reminds
- 17:23Speaker 3: me of one of my favorite days of my life,
- 17:25Speaker 3: which when Luton won the playoff final. This is the
- 17:29Speaker 3: first song that they played at the final whistle. And
- 17:32Speaker 3: again it's another sort of sporting anthem. Being the town
- 17:36Speaker 3: called Malice, let's listen to that.
- 17:38Speaker 1: This is the jam that's running with a family in
- 18:16Speaker 1: nineteen eighty six level forty two and I see you.
- 18:20Speaker 1: I love playing that one at races because quite often
- 18:23Speaker 1: at your ten k's and your half marathons you get
- 18:26Speaker 1: a mum or dad pick the son or a daughter
- 18:28Speaker 1: up and come running in and I normally have try
- 18:32Speaker 1: to have that one in the queue ready to go.
- 18:35Speaker 1: It's a great song. Okay, this is Kevin Day and
- 18:39Speaker 1: we're on radio folks, and we're heading halfway through our
- 18:42Speaker 1: second hour, and so we're going to chat to Lois
- 18:45Speaker 1: very very surely, and she's going to tell us about
- 18:48Speaker 1: why she's running and how is her journey to the
- 18:53Speaker 1: London Marathon start line. And this is about the third
- 18:56Speaker 1: or the fullth year I've managed to get I say,
- 19:01Speaker 1: marathon virgins into the studio. It's just the moment that
- 19:06Speaker 1: I really really love being, having run the London Marathon
- 19:10Speaker 1: myself and been a runner for most of my life
- 19:12Speaker 1: until old age and injuries caught up with me. So, Lois,
- 19:16Speaker 1: how are you there sitting there very patiently? Are you okay?
- 19:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm good? Thank you good.
- 19:20Speaker 1: No, Lois, let's start with your background. I mean, are
- 19:23Speaker 1: you local girl? And did you go to school locally?
- 19:25Speaker 1: Was you sporty?
- 19:26Speaker 2: Yeah? Born and brad hair Yes, yeah I wasn't sporty
- 19:30Speaker 2: at all.
- 19:31Speaker 1: No.
- 19:31Speaker 2: I was the girl at school that forgot my peak
- 19:35Speaker 2: it or wrote a note oh.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Ok yeah yeah. So so running what did the London?
- 19:45Speaker 1: Did you see the London Marathon on the telly one
- 19:46Speaker 1: day and it inspired you to you know, I can
- 19:49Speaker 1: do that.
- 19:50Speaker 2: I think I've watched the London Marathon every year, but
- 19:53Speaker 2: I've only actually been running for the last four years. Right,
- 19:56Speaker 2: But I always said if I was ever going to
- 19:58Speaker 2: do a marathon, it would have to be London.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Do you know what? I've said this so many times
- 20:02Speaker 1: on radio folks, And if you're going to do a marathon,
- 20:06Speaker 1: do London. Would you agree with that? Phil?
- 20:09Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, completely completely complete.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Did it ever cross your mind to do another sort
- 20:13Speaker 1: of low, low key, low city marathon? No?
- 20:16Speaker 3: I mean I had the opportunities to do other ones,
- 20:20Speaker 3: but never never even thought about doing them, to be honest.
- 20:23Speaker 1: So so Lois, did you did you get your your
- 20:26Speaker 1: entry through the ballot or did you try the ballot
- 20:29Speaker 1: several times and had no luck?
- 20:31Speaker 2: Yeah? I've tried the ballot loads of times, never been lucky.
- 20:36Speaker 2: I did actually try with Shine last year, but obviously
- 20:40Speaker 2: charities only have a limited number of spaces anyway. Yeah, yeah,
- 20:43Speaker 2: so yeah, but I was lucky this year.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Okay, so you've got that, You've got the you've got
- 20:48Speaker 1: your entry plopped in the email box or whatever, and
- 20:51Speaker 1: you thought, oh my word, what are we going to
- 20:53Speaker 1: do now? So how did you start? How did you start.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Did you do like a couch to five k or
- 20:58Speaker 1: just go out and do a little bit around the block.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Well, no, because I was already running. So my first
- 21:03Speaker 2: thing was the panic text to my coach.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Yeah right, and who's your coach.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Karen Quinn?
- 21:08Speaker 1: Oh Quinny. Yeah, she's been in before. Yeah. They couldn't
- 21:12Speaker 1: shut her up, you know. Yeah, yeah, I understand that
- 21:16Speaker 1: she's going up as well.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Yeah, she's running as well.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, oh good. Yeah. Right, So the charity.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Tell us about the charity. You told us a little
- 21:25Speaker 1: bit about it earlier on, but there was If there
- 21:29Speaker 1: was one charity you were going to go for, was
- 21:31Speaker 1: this the one?
- 21:32Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 21:33Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, So tell me the journey about that. Have
- 21:36Speaker 1: they been receptive, supportive.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Really supportive. Yeah. I did run the London Landmarks half
- 21:43Speaker 2: marathon last year for.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Them, Oh did you?
- 21:46Speaker 2: Yeah? That was almost a bit of a consolation prize
- 21:51Speaker 2: for not getting the London Marathon.
- 21:54Speaker 1: I think that the London Landmarks, if you're a tourist
- 21:57Speaker 1: and you want to see London, that is a fantast
- 22:00Speaker 1: isn't it. Yeah, I mean the London. You might find
- 22:03Speaker 1: this feel after a little while, your concentration goes and
- 22:05Speaker 1: you might run past Buckingham Palace and you don't give
- 22:09Speaker 1: the monkeys about bucking a Palace, you know, or you
- 22:11Speaker 1: know the Chair of London. You're just focusing. But the
- 22:14Speaker 1: London landmarks. There's so many great spots that you run by.
- 22:18Speaker 1: And we've had several people in here that have done
- 22:19Speaker 1: it and said, oh, it's awesome. Yeah, but anyway, I'm
- 22:22Speaker 1: sort of putting a dammer on Sunday here. So so
- 22:28Speaker 1: your training journey, tell us about that. Did you have
- 22:30Speaker 1: any injuries? You know? Was it was it a job
- 22:32Speaker 1: getting out with you know, running with a family. It's
- 22:35Speaker 1: a tough call to sort of get out and find
- 22:40Speaker 1: the time to train.
- 22:41Speaker 2: It's definitely a juggle.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Yeah, And I have been warned by my husband that
- 22:45Speaker 2: I'm not allowed to do enough one next year.
- 22:49Speaker 1: I know it's you want to run the marathon, but
- 22:52Speaker 1: you've got to think of the people, your team behind you,
- 22:55Speaker 1: the family, don't you. You know, you come in, you've
- 22:58Speaker 1: done fifteen miles, the kids are saying I'm angry, I'm hungry,
- 23:02Speaker 1: and well, read me a story and you just want
- 23:05Speaker 1: to yeah, well there you feel what about in America?
- 23:09Speaker 1: Was that tough for sort of trying to combine up
- 23:12Speaker 1: the holiday with a bit of running.
- 23:14Speaker 3: Fortunately, my kids are old enough that they they were
- 23:17Speaker 3: kind of okay with me disappearing for an hour or two.
- 23:20Speaker 3: They were just hanging out by the pool. So they're
- 23:23Speaker 3: ten and thirteen.
- 23:25Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, yeah, right, glad.
- 23:29Speaker 3: For the longer ones. I just got up before they
- 23:31Speaker 3: wake up. They don't get up till half nine, and
- 23:33Speaker 3: I was out by six.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Right.
- 23:35Speaker 1: So, Lewis, you've obviously got a soft spot for this charity,
- 23:39Speaker 1: and now it's well, just if you like, tell us
- 23:44Speaker 1: why this charity.
- 23:46Speaker 2: It's a difficult question, but mainly because of the amount
- 23:52Speaker 2: of support that we've had from them. I couldn't have
- 23:56Speaker 2: done it for a charity that I didn't know anything
- 23:59Speaker 2: about or had no connection with.
- 24:02Speaker 1: You know what. That's spot on actually, because as I
- 24:05Speaker 1: said earlier, one gentleman Greg who's running for the Espinel Foundations,
- 24:10Speaker 1: he's been in the ballot several times and he had
- 24:13Speaker 1: the offer of charity places and he didn't really want
- 24:15Speaker 1: to run for a charity that he had no connection with.
- 24:18Speaker 1: You know, the Aspinall foundation is local and you've got
- 24:24Speaker 1: a massive connection with this charity. So so tell us
- 24:28Speaker 1: about your children. How old are they.
- 24:31Speaker 2: I've got a seven year old, a five year old
- 24:33Speaker 2: and a four year old.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Right, and and they're pretty close together and they keep
- 24:40Speaker 1: you running around the best of times. So you're running
- 24:45Speaker 1: for this charity, but you've obviously had lots of issues
- 24:49Speaker 1: in your life with your children. So just tell me
- 24:51Speaker 1: what you want to tell me about the children. And
- 24:54Speaker 1: how are they?
- 24:56Speaker 2: Do you know they're doing so well? Yeah, we were
- 25:00Speaker 2: a lot of horror stories. But they're they're brilliant. They're boys, so.
- 25:04Speaker 1: You know boys boys.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Well, yeah, it's rough sometimes, yeah, but yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 25:12Speaker 2: they're doing well. Yeah yeah.
- 25:14Speaker 1: And do they realize that mummies running a marathon? Is
- 25:18Speaker 1: it kind of Do they think you're just going out
- 25:21Speaker 1: for little your ground on Sunday?
- 25:23Speaker 2: My eldest I think he understands, but the younger two,
- 25:27Speaker 2: they just see me putting my trainers on. They say, oh,
- 25:29Speaker 2: are you going for a run? Mum?
- 25:30Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 25:32Speaker 2: Are you going run in yeah? Or if I'm on
- 25:34Speaker 2: the treadmill, they say to the finish line.
- 25:38Speaker 1: And so what's the logistics of your your weekend? Are
- 25:41Speaker 1: you going up for the day, going up early? Are
- 25:43Speaker 1: they coming up with meeting you up there.
- 25:45Speaker 2: I'm going up Saturday, staying the night. My eldest is coming.
- 25:50Speaker 2: The younger two are going to say, yeah, trying to
- 25:52Speaker 2: get them around London.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Yeah, that is a really wise move, is you can
- 25:57Speaker 1: your feet do not touch the ground. It is so busy,
- 26:00Speaker 1: is that it really is a wise move, especially with youngsters.
- 26:04Speaker 1: So they're going to be looking at for you on
- 26:05Speaker 1: the telly.
- 26:05Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, maybe they'll be with Nana.
- 26:08Speaker 1: And where where with the family boo. Have you kind
- 26:10Speaker 1: of worked out a little spot of the charity got
- 26:15Speaker 1: the two station?
- 26:17Speaker 2: I think so, yeah, I don't know. There's definitely a
- 26:20Speaker 2: reception at the end, right, so there will be people there.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Have you arranged a spot where you're going to meet them,
- 26:26Speaker 1: you know where you're going to look out for them
- 26:28Speaker 1: and they're.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Going to they're going to sit down and do that tonight.
- 26:31Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yea.
- 26:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:34Speaker 1: It's a tough journey. As we've said, I've said this
- 26:36Speaker 1: so many times that what are your expectations of of
- 26:40Speaker 1: of completing the marathon? Are you confident or are you
- 26:44Speaker 1: a bit worried?
- 26:46Speaker 2: I am worried, but I've done two lots of twenty
- 26:50Speaker 2: mile runs and days, so I think, well, It's only
- 26:53Speaker 2: six miles mile, isn't it.
- 26:54Speaker 1: Yeah, it's only another ten k when the marathon starts.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Yeah, when we find out who really.
- 27:01Speaker 1: When you've all got webbly legs and that. Yeah. Right,
- 27:04Speaker 1: we're going to take another little music break now, and
- 27:06Speaker 1: this one. I am absolutely sick of this song, I'll
- 27:08Speaker 1: tell you, but I love it in one respect because
- 27:11Speaker 1: this is the Spencer Davis group. And keep on running,
- 27:43Speaker 1: Spencer Davis Group. There, keep on running. That's what you've
- 27:47Speaker 1: got to do on Sunday. All right, back to you, Lois,
- 27:50Speaker 1: And now, Lois you just telling me you you've got
- 27:53Speaker 1: a connection with coach Quinnie. What's she been up to?
- 27:55Speaker 1: She's been looking after you, she has.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Yeah, she's done my whole plan for them marathon training.
- 28:01Speaker 2: We did base training before that. Yeah, she's looked after me.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Actually, oh good, No, she's Actually she's really concentrated on
- 28:08Speaker 1: her training. In the last couple of years, I would
- 28:10Speaker 1: say I've see more and more people coaching. She's coaching
- 28:14Speaker 1: and often see her up at the park run. And
- 28:18Speaker 1: she's a member of the South Kent Harriers. But I
- 28:20Speaker 1: think she's also second claim to she said, and claim
- 28:23Speaker 1: to Ashford first. Claim first claim. Yeah, yeah, so so
- 28:28Speaker 1: I didn't realize you run you belong to a running club.
- 28:31Speaker 1: What running club is that?
- 28:32Speaker 2: Ashford Athletics for Athletic Club.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Oh the yellow and black vests. Yes, and well you've
- 28:38Speaker 1: got some good runners up there. One particular runner. I
- 28:41Speaker 1: always have a little joke with him about calling him
- 28:44Speaker 1: in when he wins the race, because I've never had
- 28:46Speaker 1: a Marshall winner race. But Marshall Smith is an excellent runner.
- 28:52Speaker 1: And if I know Marshall Smith is on the start line,
- 28:55Speaker 1: then you're going to find him in the top two
- 28:58Speaker 1: at least. So you're training. Uh it does it affect
- 29:03Speaker 1: diet as well and kind of looking after your body
- 29:06Speaker 1: or you just kind of just don't worry about it.
- 29:11Speaker 2: I've been a little bit careful. I mean, running makes
- 29:14Speaker 2: you hungry, doesn't it.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and you want to eat the wrong food,
- 29:17Speaker 1: don't as soon as you finished, you will borrow a chocolate.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, Well then you end up being so busy
- 29:22Speaker 2: and then you just eat a bit of cake and
- 29:24Speaker 2: you haven't eaten all day. And it's probably not the
- 29:26Speaker 2: best thing.
- 29:26Speaker 1: But you know, we've we've done most of most of
- 29:30Speaker 1: the things I wanted to talk to you about it, but
- 29:31Speaker 1: we haven't mentioned injuries. Have you had any injuries?
- 29:34Speaker 2: No? My only injury has been my garment.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Your garment, Yeah, keep stopping.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Does it died a couple of weeks ago, did it?
- 29:42Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 29:43Speaker 2: So that was that was a sad day. It's actually
- 29:46Speaker 2: just on my way out to go to running club
- 29:50Speaker 2: and I got the triangle of death.
- 29:54Speaker 1: That what you get on it? Yeah, Oh, I didn't
- 29:57Speaker 1: know that.
- 29:58Speaker 2: That was a bit of a panic because I've thinking
- 30:00Speaker 2: how am I going to pace myself and how am
- 30:02Speaker 2: I going to know, you know, easy for everything. Yeah,
- 30:05Speaker 2: so I had to panic by another one.
- 30:09Speaker 1: So, yeah, you've been on to ash Ford, but you
- 30:11Speaker 1: live in Folkston. Have you done any any runs around Folkston?
- 30:14Speaker 2: Yeah? Most of my runs are around folks in.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Yeah. So where is that along the usual long seafront there?
- 30:20Speaker 2: Along the seafront. I do like to go out through
- 30:22Speaker 2: Cheton and down Harn Street rather than yeah, you know,
- 30:26Speaker 2: out towards Hive and then back along the seafront.
- 30:29Speaker 1: That's a good one, but you have to come back.
- 30:31Speaker 2: You have to come back. Which way you come back
- 30:33Speaker 2: along the seafront?
- 30:36Speaker 1: Get the lift up? Yeah? Yeah, well I do remember
- 30:40Speaker 1: in my running days, I used to run with folks
- 30:43Speaker 1: and running club. We used to do nine miler, but
- 30:47Speaker 1: we used to used to run up Hospital Hill. Oh yeah,
- 30:51Speaker 1: and that was about because really back in the days
- 30:53Speaker 1: and I remember really going back to these sort of
- 30:55Speaker 1: early eighties, we never had a base, we never had
- 30:58Speaker 1: three hills in in later years we had the old
- 31:01Speaker 1: folks in cricket club. We just used to meet up
- 31:03Speaker 1: by the barracks and then but we used to go
- 31:07Speaker 1: down but to coming up, we used to run up
- 31:10Speaker 1: to Hospital Hill and finished by the barracks. And it
- 31:14Speaker 1: took me so long to actually crack it, to do
- 31:19Speaker 1: it one year, you know. But of course the marathon
- 31:24Speaker 1: is pretty flat. So I suppose if you live down
- 31:27Speaker 1: Romney Marsh and there's no hills down there, then your
- 31:30Speaker 1: ideal training ground. So any hellos that you want to say,
- 31:35Speaker 1: anyone listening in, or anyone that we're going to put
- 31:38Speaker 1: this out as a podcast, so we really I love
- 31:40Speaker 1: name drop in and shout outs and thank you. So
- 31:43Speaker 1: it's over to you far away lows.
- 31:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Firstly, Coach Quinney for all of her help and support
- 31:51Speaker 2: my husband, friends and family.
- 31:53Speaker 1: What's your husband's name?
- 31:54Speaker 2: Lee?
- 31:54Speaker 1: Lee World and Lee, you're a brave man. And what's
- 31:57Speaker 1: the children's names?
- 31:59Speaker 2: Teddy will Be and Lennon.
- 32:00Speaker 1: There we go kids, Teddy will Be and Lenny. Your
- 32:02Speaker 1: mum's on the radio, so you gonna's gonna see her.
- 32:05Speaker 1: You might even see her on the Telly on Sunday
- 32:07Speaker 1: if it's just do you think it's a job to
- 32:13Speaker 1: say this one? But do you think you would ever
- 32:15Speaker 1: do another one? Or you're gonna wait and see her?
- 32:17Speaker 1: You get on with this one.
- 32:18Speaker 2: I said one and done. But I think I think
- 32:23Speaker 2: me and my husband bife know that that's going to happen.
- 32:26Speaker 1: I suppose the lifestyle, I don't mean the lifestyle, but
- 32:29Speaker 1: your life background with three young children is a tough call.
- 32:35Speaker 1: It's a tough call. It puts pressure on the rest
- 32:37Speaker 1: of the family. And you've got to remember that everyone
- 32:40Speaker 1: that's running a marathon becomes a bit of a marathon board.
- 32:43Speaker 1: But all the family you need their support, don't you.
- 32:46Speaker 1: You need them to back you, and you know, put
- 32:49Speaker 1: up with your grumpiness and your tiredness, and you, you know,
- 32:53Speaker 1: come in and you want to you know, you want
- 32:55Speaker 1: to be chocolate ghetto or something, and he's not there.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Yeah, and then someone says, do you really need another
- 33:00Speaker 2: of trainers?
- 33:01Speaker 1: Trainers? You're right, don't wear new trainers to the marathon,
- 33:05Speaker 1: whatever you do.
- 33:06Speaker 2: You know.
- 33:07Speaker 1: So the charity, I mean, has that been supportive? Do
- 33:10Speaker 1: we speak about that that they've been keeping you up
- 33:13Speaker 1: to date with emails.
- 33:14Speaker 2: And stuff really supportive. Yeah, They've had like video calls
- 33:17Speaker 2: and stuff. I mean, admittedly I've missed every one of them,
- 33:21Speaker 2: but yeah, emails on the end of the phone. And
- 33:27Speaker 2: I mean the lady that has organized it this year.
- 33:29Speaker 2: I obviously spoke to her last year because I'd applied
- 33:31Speaker 2: for it then and we've kept in contact, and it
- 33:34Speaker 2: will actually be really nice to just meet her in
- 33:36Speaker 2: person on.
- 33:37Speaker 1: Some right, Yeah, will you kind of get together together
- 33:41Speaker 1: with other people that are doing shine for a picture
- 33:43Speaker 1: you've got a lot of meeting point or anything, or
- 33:46Speaker 1: you're just going to do your own thing and sort
- 33:47Speaker 1: of meet them at the end.
- 33:48Speaker 2: I think yeah, I think it's just a reception at
- 33:50Speaker 2: the end. Yeah, because everyone has different start pens and
- 33:53Speaker 2: don't they.
- 33:54Speaker 1: Yes, difficult, isn't it.
- 33:55Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 33:57Speaker 1: So right, you're going up Saturday? Oh yeah, tell us
- 33:59Speaker 1: you went up to the exit. Oh, yesterday you told us, Yes,
- 34:01Speaker 1: what sort of journey was that?
- 34:02Speaker 2: Then it was all right obviously chief strikes.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Wasn't It was?
- 34:06Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, So we've got the train up to Stratford
- 34:11Speaker 2: d l R to Greenwich and then we cable card across.
- 34:15Speaker 2: We went a bit oh yeah, we went a bit fun.
- 34:19Speaker 2: But it was really good. It's a really good day out.
- 34:22Speaker 2: I've never been before.
- 34:24Speaker 1: So the hype of the exposition it was that really
- 34:28Speaker 1: this is real.
- 34:29Speaker 2: When you walk in and the music's playing and you're like,
- 34:31Speaker 2: oh and then you're going to find your name on
- 34:33Speaker 2: the wall.
- 34:34Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah great. Was it just you and Quinny? Then
- 34:38Speaker 1: it was yeah, yeah, she's good fun right, well we're
- 34:43Speaker 1: slowly running at the times. Is anything else we've forgotten? Lowest?
- 34:46Speaker 1: I mean, anything else you want to mention? I don't
- 34:48Speaker 1: want you're going out the door and oh I forgot
- 34:50Speaker 1: to so so but really really it's your your asked
- 34:55Speaker 1: chance to say a few words and of course give
- 34:58Speaker 1: us you are the full round up. If you're just
- 35:00Speaker 1: giving page, go on it my just.
- 35:03Speaker 2: Give him page is lois Is London Marathon twenty twenty
- 35:07Speaker 2: six for.
- 35:07Speaker 1: Shine, Shine, There go Shine the charities shine and just
- 35:11Speaker 1: tell us briefly once again, what the charity stands for,
- 35:14Speaker 1: what does it do? What is it? How does it
- 35:16Speaker 1: helped you?
- 35:18Speaker 2: It's having qualified people at the end of the phone
- 35:23Speaker 2: when you need them. And also the WhatsApp group of
- 35:26Speaker 2: other parents where you can ask advice.
- 35:30Speaker 1: So you've got a WhatsApp group of other parents that
- 35:32Speaker 1: have also all been through the same have all.
- 35:35Speaker 2: Got children with hodgek loss of spiny befida. You can
- 35:38Speaker 2: ask each other advice and actually that's really helpful because
- 35:43Speaker 2: it can feel quite lonely sometimes.
- 35:45Speaker 1: I'm sure, yeah, And I'm sure that family and friends
- 35:47Speaker 1: will kind of give you advice that they want to
- 35:50Speaker 1: give you, you know, to try and make you feel better,
- 35:52Speaker 1: because it's what we do. But to have the sort
- 35:54Speaker 1: of right advice is what you need, isn't it. And
- 35:57Speaker 1: as you say, it's so important that if you've got
- 35:59Speaker 1: somebody that has been through what you had to go
- 36:02Speaker 1: through with the children growing up, you can sort of
- 36:05Speaker 1: learn by their experiences. Would you say, that's right? Yeah, yeah, yeah, right, Okay,
- 36:11Speaker 1: So what we got next on the playlist? We've got
- 36:13Speaker 1: another song And I saw these on the Telly the
- 36:16Speaker 1: other day. They were at Glastonbury and they were doing
- 36:19Speaker 1: a great set and they look fantastic. So Lois, all
- 36:24Speaker 1: I can say is we want to wish you the
- 36:26Speaker 1: best of luck. Well, I know your mum and dad
- 36:30Speaker 1: came up with us one year. And will they be
- 36:33Speaker 1: watching on the telly you think looking at for you?
- 36:35Speaker 2: They're coming up. They're coming up on Saturday as well.
- 36:38Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, staying over's staying over.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:41Speaker 2: And I've won a picture running over tower Bridge. Yeah right,
- 36:46Speaker 2: that's my thing. I've always wanted to do it.
- 36:47Speaker 1: Couldn't tell you why, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, But do
- 36:50Speaker 1: you know what, There's a couple of things about tower Bridge.
- 36:52Speaker 1: First of all, I was interviewed when I did my
- 36:54Speaker 1: London marathon. I was interviewed by Denise Lewis on tower Bridge,
- 37:00Speaker 1: but it never made the television, probably because I wasn't
- 37:02Speaker 1: dressed up as a crocodile or a porcupine or a hedgeho.
- 37:08Speaker 1: But last year and on never look at the time. Yeah,
- 37:11Speaker 1: we're doing all right. Last year, on my on my birthday,
- 37:14Speaker 1: we went to London and I actually planned a trip
- 37:19Speaker 1: tower Bridge. You can go up one side and you
- 37:21Speaker 1: can walk across the top and a bit across the
- 37:23Speaker 1: top has got a glass bottom. And you can look
- 37:26Speaker 1: down onto the traffic and to the onto the river.
- 37:30Speaker 1: And so that was one point of the London Marathon.
- 37:33Speaker 1: We came down the other side and then we got
- 37:35Speaker 1: the boat up to the Cutty Sark. Now I've stood
- 37:39Speaker 1: I don't know how many times on the other side
- 37:42Speaker 1: of the barrier at the Cutty Sark, but I'd never
- 37:45Speaker 1: been on the boat. So we got the boat and
- 37:47Speaker 1: I booked up a couple of tickets. My partner Sue
- 37:49Speaker 1: came with hershes run to London before, and we got
- 37:52Speaker 1: on the Cutty Sark and looked back where we will
- 37:55Speaker 1: stand normally, and it was empty. And it was so
- 37:57Speaker 1: spooky to think that all those years that we've been
- 38:00Speaker 1: standing there, the place was rammed. It couldn't move. But
- 38:03Speaker 1: now I'm actually on the boat. So anyway, that was
- 38:05Speaker 1: I digress a little bit, but okay, so Lois. That'd
- 38:09Speaker 1: be great if they can get a picture, and we
- 38:11Speaker 1: would love to see that picture. Here we go, hopefully
- 38:14Speaker 1: this is Whitney Houston. If I hit the right button,
- 38:18Speaker 1: let's see. This is a founder. Anybody that knows me
- 38:25Speaker 1: out there knows that I love strong female ballad singers
- 38:30Speaker 1: and watch stronger song than this one. And this is
- 38:32Speaker 1: what the London Marathon has have been doing. On Sunday,
- 38:38Speaker 1: they'll be running to you. So this is Kevin Day.
- 38:41Speaker 1: I'll be up there. I'll be at the cutty Suck.
- 38:45Speaker 1: When you come round, get in the right hand lane.
- 38:47Speaker 1: There's no spectators on the left hand lane because that's
- 38:50Speaker 1: where the boat is, but I'll be looking out for
- 38:53Speaker 1: you all. So I just want to wish you all
- 38:55Speaker 1: the very very best as you do the journey through London.
- 39:00Speaker 1: If you're gonna run a marathon, as Lois said, run
- 39:02Speaker 1: to London. That's the only one. See you Sunday. Thanks
- 39:06Speaker 1: for tuning in me. I feel so.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Wan awad.
- 39:18Speaker 1: I'm want around to you.
