- 1:23Speaker 8: Willie Wednesday here on Chip Howard's Sports Talk It is
- 1:26Speaker 8: quittin time. Calebin Riley here filling in for Chip. He
- 1:32Speaker 8: likes to go have a good time in July. I
- 1:35Speaker 8: don't blame him.
- 1:36Speaker 9: I don't either at all.
- 1:39Speaker 8: But he leaves us here in the doldrums of the
- 1:43Speaker 8: off season for most sports. We've got, of course MLB
- 1:47Speaker 8: going all summer long. My personal favorite sport is baseball,
- 1:51Speaker 8: so I'm happy. But a lot of sports fans, you know,
- 1:53Speaker 8: they don't. They feel like there's not as much to
- 1:56Speaker 8: talk about, not as much to read and react to.
- 2:00Speaker 8: But big twelve media days have been happening this week.
- 2:04Speaker 8: Just wrapped up earlier this afternoon. We heard from University
- 2:09Speaker 8: of Houston head coach Willie Fritz at the end of
- 2:12Speaker 8: the four o'clock hour. We're going to hear from Baylor
- 2:14Speaker 8: head coach David Randa here shortly, but there have been
- 2:17Speaker 8: some interesting things come out about the Big Twelve in
- 2:23Speaker 8: this week, you know, with media days.
- 2:26Speaker 4: Brent you or Mark.
- 2:28Speaker 8: Had his press conference at the very start of everything
- 2:30Speaker 8: before the coaches talked, and they announced that the Big
- 2:35Speaker 8: Twelve will be partnering with Monster Energy a multi year
- 2:40Speaker 8: sponsorship agreement. Schools will have jersey patches and field logos
- 2:45Speaker 8: featuring the Monster Energy logo. Okay, so Riley told me
- 2:52Speaker 8: that she hadn't heard about this yet, so she gets
- 2:54Speaker 8: to it live. First of all, I think this is
- 2:59Speaker 8: probably the most flamboyant sponsor that we're going to see
- 3:02Speaker 8: on a jersey to start off this new era of
- 3:07Speaker 8: I mean, you're probably gonna see a lot of jersey
- 3:09Speaker 8: patches jersey sponsors. I don't know that there were any
- 3:12Speaker 8: last year, maybe one or two, but Wisconsin I think
- 3:15Speaker 8: announced Culver's is going to be their jersey sponsor, and
- 3:18Speaker 8: now the Big Twelve is going to have a conference wide.
- 3:20Speaker 4: Jersey sponsor, which is really interesting.
- 3:23Speaker 8: The main problem that I see, uh, it's only I
- 3:27Speaker 8: think it's like a twenty million dollar deal for the
- 3:30Speaker 8: whole conference, So each team is only getting like a
- 3:33Speaker 8: little over a million dollars to have Monster energy all
- 3:36Speaker 8: over their jersey and their field.
- 3:39Speaker 4: That seems a little up.
- 3:40Speaker 9: That's really low in my opinion, I agree.
- 3:44Speaker 8: So we will see if any more details come out
- 3:48Speaker 8: about that, and you know, maybe the twenty million is
- 3:50Speaker 8: only for just the jerseys, and then.
- 3:52Speaker 4: I think it's just really got to be something else.
- 3:54Speaker 9: I just think it's funny like monsters trying to step
- 3:56Speaker 9: into the games. You know, red Bull they sponsor everything
- 3:59Speaker 9: that you're an adrenaline junkie, your Red Bull, you just
- 4:01Speaker 9: go over in your own category. So monsters like we
- 4:03Speaker 9: got to enter the pitcher, Let's go with one of
- 4:06Speaker 9: the I got nothing, it's a Big twelve, one of
- 4:08Speaker 9: the lower end conferences, Like, let's just go for the
- 4:10Speaker 9: Big twelve because I guess they could pitch the cheapest
- 4:13Speaker 9: amount of money to give. I guess that's my opinion,
- 4:16Speaker 9: because you know the Big ten or that season. I
- 4:18Speaker 9: would laugh at you if you did that. They'd be like, okay, yeah, sure, yeah,
- 4:21Speaker 9: we can make twenty million a one game.
- 4:23Speaker 4: So here's another weird thing about it.
- 4:24Speaker 8: For me, monster has so so many flavors. So there's
- 4:31Speaker 8: a lot of different can designs that have different colors. Right,
- 4:34Speaker 8: So you'll see you know, they have like their coffee
- 4:36Speaker 8: versions that will be like a brown logo on a
- 4:38Speaker 8: tan can. Blue Hawaiian is like a silver logo on
- 4:42Speaker 8: a blue can. But according to the Kansas State Athletic director,
- 4:48Speaker 8: he said that they were told the jersey patches are
- 4:53Speaker 8: required to be the monster green, So no matter the team,
- 4:57Speaker 8: it's gonna be the monster green and black.
- 4:59Speaker 9: Some team's gonna look Christmas.
- 5:00Speaker 8: So I don't understand, Like, I don't get why you
- 5:03Speaker 8: would have all of these different flavors, with all these
- 5:05Speaker 8: different logos. Why wouldn't you just tailor it to the
- 5:08Speaker 8: team so that it doesn't like, I know you want
- 5:10Speaker 8: to stand out, but I feel like fans would be
- 5:16Speaker 8: more open to it if it wasn't just because that's
- 5:18Speaker 8: gonna the green and black is gonna clash on a
- 5:20Speaker 8: lot of the jerseys.
- 5:21Speaker 9: I completely agree with you. I think that what they
- 5:23Speaker 9: should do is tailor it to each of the emblems,
- 5:27Speaker 9: to the depending on what team you're on.
- 5:30Speaker 8: No, it is definitely gonna stand out. But like Iowa
- 5:35Speaker 8: State is maroon and gold, and they're gonna have a
- 5:37Speaker 8: green and black logo on their a big green and
- 5:39Speaker 8: black logo on their jersey. And their field, Like what
- 5:42Speaker 8: are we doing?
- 5:43Speaker 9: I like Arizona States will be were with the red
- 5:45Speaker 9: and the blue and then you'll have green. I don't know.
- 5:47Speaker 9: I feel like that's kind of weird and has red
- 5:50Speaker 9: on it. It's gonna look funny.
- 5:51Speaker 4: Yeah, Like Houston, Texas Tech PCU and Kansas State with
- 5:56Speaker 4: the purple. I don't know. I feel like that honestly
- 5:59Speaker 4: might look kind of.
- 5:59Speaker 9: Good because they got Halloween going on.
- 6:02Speaker 8: That, And like TCU and Kansas State are both like
- 6:05Speaker 8: it's purple and then a neutral color either white, silver,
- 6:08Speaker 8: or black. So I feel like the green won't look
- 6:11Speaker 8: two out of place, true, But any school that their
- 6:15Speaker 8: color combo is like like Arizona State and Arizona red
- 6:19Speaker 8: and blue, red and gold.
- 6:25Speaker 9: Oh, I'm going through it over here. Baylor's gonna be
- 6:28Speaker 9: weird though, because it'd be green on green on all that,
- 6:30Speaker 9: like yeah, and those greens, don't Matt, Yeah, different shades
- 6:33Speaker 9: of green too, that'll look weird.
- 6:34Speaker 4: Yeah. So I don't know how this is.
- 6:40Speaker 8: I don't get how they're getting how the Big twelve
- 6:42Speaker 8: and the schools agreed to this for only twenty million
- 6:44Speaker 8: dollars for the whole conference, Like UNLV their Jersey sponsor
- 6:49Speaker 8: is giving them two point two million a year.
- 6:51Speaker 9: Oh you missed it. Texas Tech just announced who their
- 6:53Speaker 9: starting quarterback is going to be if he's cleared from
- 6:55Speaker 9: his ACL tear. Well will yeah, we'll.
- 6:58Speaker 8: Hand Yeah, I guess that's probably who it's going to be.
- 7:01Speaker 8: I didn't think you'd be healthy.
- 7:03Speaker 9: Honestly, they said if he's cleared. I it just went
- 7:05Speaker 9: across the headline right now.
- 7:07Speaker 8: So yeah, Well, Hammond is Uh, he's definitely shown a
- 7:10Speaker 8: lot of upside and he's been kind of the de
- 7:13Speaker 8: facto next man up since the whole brendan swersby situation
- 7:16Speaker 8: went down. Yeah. Yeah, I'll be interesting to see what
- 7:20Speaker 8: he can do. I think Texas Tech will still win
- 7:22Speaker 8: the Big twelve pretty easily.
- 7:23Speaker 10: I don't.
- 7:24Speaker 9: I think there's so much mayhem and chaos that's been
- 7:27Speaker 9: going on since this whole Brandon sorosby sagas happened. I
- 7:30Speaker 9: think they'll be at the top, but I don't think
- 7:31Speaker 9: they're gonna win the whole thing. I mean maybe you
- 7:34Speaker 9: never know. You never know. Yeah, they do have a
- 7:37Speaker 9: very expensive roster and team, so but your whole team
- 7:40Speaker 9: kind of relies on a good quarterback.
- 7:41Speaker 4: So for sure, for sure.
- 7:45Speaker 8: One team that we're gonna hear a little bit more
- 7:46Speaker 8: about here in just a second. The Baylor head coach
- 7:49Speaker 8: David Randa. He's on a little bit of a hot seat.
- 7:51Speaker 4: Uh.
- 7:53Speaker 8: I think this is fourth or fifth year with the program,
- 7:56Speaker 8: and he's had that one really good season. I think
- 7:59Speaker 8: it was twenty twenty two or twenty one, So it's
- 8:01Speaker 8: been a while and kind of disappointed since then Sawyer
- 8:06Speaker 8: Robertson graduated this past season. So DJ Lagway, the former
- 8:10Speaker 8: Florida quarterback, coming into the transfer portal kind of a
- 8:14Speaker 8: high ceiling, low floor type of place.
- 8:16Speaker 4: I could see him being really good. I could see
- 8:17Speaker 4: it working out really terribly.
- 8:19Speaker 9: He's one of those players, in my opinion, I got
- 8:21Speaker 9: nothing against him, but when he shuts down, it's game over.
- 8:24Speaker 9: Like if his team's not cooperating and they're losing it,
- 8:26Speaker 9: he's like, I'm done, I'm throwing in the talent. I
- 8:28Speaker 9: don't want to be out here anymore. He's like that
- 8:30Speaker 9: LSU quarterback that's meyer.
- 8:33Speaker 4: Yeah. Well, we are going to hear what coach Randa
- 8:37Speaker 4: had to say at Big twelve media days yesterday afternoon.
- 8:40Speaker 11: It's good to see everybody I'm blessed to be here,
- 8:44Speaker 11: I'm humbled to represent Baylor.
- 8:47Speaker 12: Really have three things.
- 8:49Speaker 11: The first is ownership last year was not up to
- 8:53Speaker 11: our standard. I take accountability for that, which leads to
- 8:57Speaker 11: the second thing of what are we doing now? What's
- 9:00Speaker 11: the plan? And there's been strong change. There's been me
- 9:04Speaker 11: moving out of defense and bringing in Joe Klanderman and
- 9:07Speaker 11: brand new scheme and new excitement and new methods. It's
- 9:13Speaker 11: bringing in Dj Labway and his energy and his passion
- 9:18Speaker 11: to play.
- 9:18Speaker 12: Football and achieve at a really high level.
- 9:21Speaker 11: There's building the team inside out as opposed to outside.
- 9:25Speaker 11: In mistake I made a year ago was spending too
- 9:28Speaker 11: much money on the outside our skill positions and not
- 9:32Speaker 11: enough on the inside. The line of scrimmage is where
- 9:34Speaker 11: our attention and our moneys have gone this year.
- 9:37Speaker 12: And then just the overall investment into this team.
- 9:41Speaker 11: Our athletic director Doug mctamie has done a great job
- 9:45Speaker 11: of being an advocate and fighting for the football program
- 9:49Speaker 11: and supporting me and the rest of the guys to
- 9:52Speaker 11: be competitive in a way competitive market. All that leads
- 9:57Speaker 11: to the third thing, which is belief. You know, the
- 9:59Speaker 11: group we've got here today are our captains. They believe
- 10:04Speaker 11: our team is hungry, has a chip on his shoulder
- 10:07Speaker 11: and believes that we can win. We've got a really
- 10:12Speaker 11: strong staff alignment, and we've got really good administrative support,
- 10:17Speaker 11: and we're ready and excited for the challenge to come
- 10:21Speaker 11: this season.
- 10:22Speaker 12: Take any questions you guys got.
- 10:24Speaker 13: Did we have a question? Please raise your hand.
- 10:25Speaker 14: We'll go to front right.
- 10:29Speaker 15: Hey, Coach Nick Hampilinton, Nightcast Media. I want to ask
- 10:33Speaker 15: you about DJ and what exactly did you see in
- 10:37Speaker 15: him that you felt like it was a great fit
- 10:39Speaker 15: for your program, and ultimately, what is your vision for
- 10:43Speaker 15: him when it's all said and done with this season,
- 10:45Speaker 15: where would you like to see him expand upon and
- 10:48Speaker 15: maybe make correct some shortcomings.
- 10:51Speaker 11: I've known DJ since his high school days and recruiting
- 10:55Speaker 11: him since that time, and so there's a good relationship
- 10:59Speaker 11: kind of built already in the communication prior to his visit,
- 11:04Speaker 11: and then for sure on his visit to Baylor, it
- 11:08Speaker 11: felt to me like kind of straight jacketed, kind of tight,
- 11:14Speaker 11: kind of closed up and felt like he wanted to
- 11:19Speaker 11: be free, and I feel like he felt Baylor is
- 11:22Speaker 11: a place that he could play free, really kind of
- 11:25Speaker 11: be free and I'm all about that man, And so
- 11:29Speaker 11: the opportunity to really kind of get to know him
- 11:33Speaker 11: on a more personal level and get to where there's
- 11:36Speaker 11: trust and where we got his back and he's got ours,
- 11:41Speaker 11: and to really build that relationship I think allows us
- 11:44Speaker 11: to really impact the player that he can be and
- 11:48Speaker 11: excited for what's to come.
- 11:50Speaker 12: You know, there's a huge chip on his shoulder. I
- 11:52Speaker 12: would say that it's pretty true of our team.
- 11:55Speaker 11: And to keep it to where it's like, man, I'm
- 11:58Speaker 11: doing all this stuff because I want to prove me
- 12:00Speaker 11: right more than I'm trying to prove other people wrong.
- 12:04Speaker 12: Is really what we're trying to get.
- 12:07Speaker 13: Left Center Front row coach Neil Meyer the front office
- 12:11Speaker 13: News speaking in DJ we spoke to some of the
- 12:15Speaker 13: players in the breakout side is earlier. They praised this
- 12:18Speaker 13: his leadership skills and his ability to bring guys along
- 12:21Speaker 13: with him. What's been the big the biggest thing for
- 12:24Speaker 13: you as a coach to see him throughout this process
- 12:28Speaker 13: and journey at Baylor so far.
- 12:31Speaker 11: He communicates through football, and so there's guys that that
- 12:36Speaker 11: communicate sometimes off the field.
- 12:39Speaker 12: They'll connect whether it's.
- 12:41Speaker 11: In the locker room or it's you know, at an
- 12:45Speaker 11: apartment or kind of in the hallways of the facility.
- 12:49Speaker 11: And then there's guys that connect through football, through the
- 12:54Speaker 11: language of football and on the field, right, and DJ
- 12:58Speaker 11: is that way.
- 12:59Speaker 12: He's the best seen that way man. So whether it's taking.
- 13:03Speaker 11: The old lineman out to eat, or it's taken all
- 13:06Speaker 11: the receivers out to throw more or taking them to
- 13:10Speaker 11: Florida to throw more, right, He's been very driven to
- 13:15Speaker 11: connect and to build this team, and so I appreciate
- 13:19Speaker 11: that about him. I think just the self determination and
- 13:24Speaker 11: the strength that he has in his efforts to achieve
- 13:29Speaker 11: a successful season is going pay dividends.
- 13:32Speaker 16: Center right, second row, Dave Parker, Ring Fox forty four
- 13:36Speaker 16: and Waco. You mentioned earlier it's more about proving yourself
- 13:42Speaker 16: right instead of proving the doubters wrong. In your case,
- 13:46Speaker 16: specifically entering year seven, how do you feel about proving
- 13:50Speaker 16: yourself right to maybe the Baylor fans and also Baylor
- 13:53Speaker 16: fan base as you guys look to get back to
- 13:55Speaker 16: that Big twelve championship consideration.
- 13:58Speaker 11: I'm always I'm always taken back, you know, from just
- 14:04Speaker 11: the interaction that I have with our.
- 14:05Speaker 12: Fans of just their.
- 14:11Speaker 11: Their love for Baylor and just their kind of heartfelt
- 14:17Speaker 11: appreciation of the program and just everything else. You know,
- 14:20Speaker 11: as I was on a plane, family was on vacation
- 14:23Speaker 11: and they're still on vacation right now, and so I
- 14:25Speaker 11: came back off of it, and so on the plane
- 14:29Speaker 11: to hear was a Dallas Fort Worth crew and there's
- 14:33Speaker 11: a bunch of Baylor fans on the plane, and so
- 14:36Speaker 11: there wasn't.
- 14:37Speaker 12: Much sleep on that flight.
- 14:38Speaker 11: There was a lot of just talking to them and
- 14:40Speaker 11: taking pictures and all of it. And a lot of
- 14:42Speaker 11: my interactions with fans have been that way, and I'm
- 14:45Speaker 11: so appreciative of it.
- 14:47Speaker 12: I know of what you're talking about.
- 14:48Speaker 11: And so I think for us to kind of kind
- 14:51Speaker 11: of stack some wins this summer, you know, had a
- 14:55Speaker 11: really good Monday, Let's.
- 14:56Speaker 12: Make sure we got a really good Tuesday.
- 14:58Speaker 11: Let's build on it with a really good Wednesday and
- 15:01Speaker 11: Thursday and Friday, and keep building and stacking wins. I
- 15:05Speaker 11: think we'll be able to get everybody. I'm pretty confident
- 15:08Speaker 11: that that's the course.
- 15:09Speaker 17: Wrong Sener writer in the back coach Madison Plumbo case
- 15:16Speaker 17: and Channel six, what did this off season and reveal
- 15:19Speaker 17: about the team's identity that we may not not see
- 15:23Speaker 17: until September.
- 15:25Speaker 11: They crave winning, they need to win, and they're very
- 15:32Speaker 11: they're hungry to win. I think that would probably be
- 15:35Speaker 11: the term hungry. And there's a lot of confrontation. There's
- 15:41Speaker 11: probably been more confrontation this year than the past couple
- 15:46Speaker 11: of years.
- 15:47Speaker 12: And there's been a higher.
- 15:50Speaker 11: Level of keeping up, keeping people to the standard of
- 15:54Speaker 11: the things that we say we are and the things
- 15:56Speaker 11: that we say we're going to do.
- 15:58Speaker 12: And so that's been.
- 16:00Speaker 11: Coaches involved with that for sure, but that's been more
- 16:03Speaker 11: player led than it's been in the last couple of years.
- 16:08Speaker 14: Serl breaking back Donovan Bridge for t xaying twenty four News.
- 16:14Speaker 14: I wanted you to speak a little bit about Wheeler's
- 16:17Speaker 14: elvis ability and him coming from Indiana and how.
- 16:22Speaker 15: That looks.
- 16:24Speaker 11: Big fans of Hoseiah, and just his leadership and his confidence.
- 16:29Speaker 11: You know, he walks in the room and you feel it,
- 16:32Speaker 11: you know, and when he's when he speaks, everybody listens.
- 16:35Speaker 11: He's on our leadership council and so he's got a
- 16:39Speaker 11: spot that he always sits and we'll talk about a subject,
- 16:43Speaker 11: go go around the room, and when it gets to him,
- 16:45Speaker 11: everyone kind of quiets down to hear what he says,
- 16:48Speaker 11: and he says it was such confidence, and the guys
- 16:51Speaker 11: believe him and they want they want to play for him,
- 16:55Speaker 11: and it's a it's been a great Connector is someone
- 16:58Speaker 11: that has seen the the lows and the highs, and
- 17:02Speaker 11: so we're fighting for him.
- 17:03Speaker 15: You know.
- 17:04Speaker 11: I think right now all of that's going to be
- 17:06Speaker 11: in the courts and we're hoping that we get a
- 17:08Speaker 11: quick resolution because the time is running down that we
- 17:12Speaker 11: have to before we start.
- 17:14Speaker 18: The season for a left side HI coach is Kennedy
- 17:18Speaker 18: Hardiman with D two ten Sports. I just wanted to
- 17:21Speaker 18: ask you, what does your vision look like for a
- 17:24Speaker 18: fall camp. How do you plan to really build this
- 17:28Speaker 18: team with the new audition so that Baylor can exceed
- 17:32Speaker 18: their expectations and succeed during this season.
- 17:36Speaker 12: Yeah, I'm kind of triggered a little bit when you
- 17:38Speaker 12: say vision. When I think of vision, I think of
- 17:42Speaker 12: McClain Stadium that's full.
- 17:44Speaker 11: It's got green and gold all the way at the
- 17:48Speaker 11: top levels are green and gold. If people have tickets,
- 17:52Speaker 11: they're using their tickets, and people that want to go
- 17:56Speaker 11: to the game, they are Baylor fans are trying to
- 17:59Speaker 11: find tickets to go and support Baylor, that there is.
- 18:06Speaker 12: Jams, logjams in the.
- 18:09Speaker 11: Front to get in that on the river there's people
- 18:12Speaker 11: partying and there's boats up and down.
- 18:15Speaker 12: And that when the opponent.
- 18:17Speaker 11: Is in a third down you can't hear anything in
- 18:20Speaker 11: the stadium.
- 18:21Speaker 12: That's the vision, you know, to get the whole the
- 18:24Speaker 12: whole city of Waco and.
- 18:26Speaker 11: Central Texas and Baylor fans engaged is the vision. And
- 18:31Speaker 11: so to do that is like every squat that we take,
- 18:36Speaker 11: every power clean that we do, every run that we do,
- 18:39Speaker 11: we're working with that in.
- 18:40Speaker 12: Mind's our that's our goal. That's what we want, and.
- 18:43Speaker 11: We can achieve that, man, and we can we can
- 18:46Speaker 11: say we're doing that right here, right now. And so
- 18:50Speaker 11: that's that's a bit of a triggering thing for me.
- 18:52Speaker 12: I've talked a lot about it. I think what happens when.
- 18:55Speaker 11: You think that way and you believe that way, you
- 18:58Speaker 11: take ownership of it. And so now you own what
- 19:01Speaker 11: you're doing and you own how you're going to be.
- 19:03Speaker 11: And that's happening right now in our team, and I'm
- 19:06Speaker 11: excited to see it happen.
- 19:09Speaker 19: So all right, Coach Miranda Conrad with a KMU quick
- 19:14Speaker 19: question about your losses. First, Houston TCU in Arizona State
- 19:21Speaker 19: all one score losses. Talk about what you're going to
- 19:26Speaker 19: have to do in the fourth quarter in the Big
- 19:27Speaker 19: twelve this upcoming year versus those losses last year.
- 19:32Speaker 12: We got to close the deal. I think you look
- 19:35Speaker 12: at any any.
- 19:36Speaker 11: Workout that's happening today, right there's going to be a
- 19:39Speaker 11: start to it. We got to start fast in the
- 19:42Speaker 11: middle of it. There's got to be the scoreboards a distraction.
- 19:46Speaker 11: I'm not looking to see how much times left in
- 19:49Speaker 11: the in the period.
- 19:50Speaker 12: I'm not looking to see what the score is. Can
- 19:52Speaker 12: I take it easy? Do I need to turn it up.
- 19:54Speaker 11: I'm not looking to see, hey, there's only a couple
- 19:57Speaker 11: of minutes left and then I'm done, or there's only
- 19:59Speaker 11: a couple.
- 20:00Speaker 12: Minutes to the break. The scoreboards the distraction. I'm focused
- 20:03Speaker 12: on the present.
- 20:04Speaker 11: I'm focused on what I'm doing right now, and then
- 20:06Speaker 11: at the end of it is close the deal. Hey man,
- 20:08Speaker 11: you've gone through all the things and have done all
- 20:11Speaker 11: the things, and now you're in a position to close
- 20:14Speaker 11: to close this game. This is what we're here for,
- 20:17Speaker 11: this is what you do, this is who we are.
- 20:20Speaker 12: And so that's been a huge emphasis throughout.
- 20:23Speaker 11: And that's played out, and all the workouts we do
- 20:26Speaker 11: that's played out, and all the meetings we have that
- 20:28Speaker 11: are in the evenings that's played out, and anything that.
- 20:31Speaker 12: We do, there's a start, there's a middle, and there's.
- 20:33Speaker 11: A finish, and we've got to be really strong with
- 20:36Speaker 11: the finishes. And you know, I think every day you've
- 20:39Speaker 11: got to build stack up wins in this league because
- 20:42Speaker 11: there's a lot of fourth quarter changes, like you just
- 20:44Speaker 11: talked about, and you know, something that's happening in April
- 20:48Speaker 11: on a Tuesday has a direct effect to those games
- 20:51Speaker 11: you're talking about in November.
- 20:53Speaker 16: Final question for right side coach Locktop and Pieheads podcast networker.
- 20:59Speaker 14: You've had a jury's back and forth with b Yu.
- 21:03Speaker 4: There was the state of Utah as a whole.
- 21:05Speaker 20: How excited to have the Cougar's back on the schedule
- 21:08Speaker 20: this fall.
- 21:09Speaker 12: Have a lot of respect for b Yu. Klonie.
- 21:12Speaker 11: I would consider him a friend, you know, Klanie's the
- 21:15Speaker 11: type word.
- 21:15Speaker 12: I imagine.
- 21:16Speaker 11: He's got a lot of friends, but he's someone that
- 21:19Speaker 11: then I've known for a while and is whether I've
- 21:23Speaker 11: been up or down or all around, he's treated me
- 21:27Speaker 11: with total.
- 21:28Speaker 12: Respect and so I have a lot of respect for him.
- 21:31Speaker 11: I know his team is a team that's gonna fight tough,
- 21:34Speaker 11: and they're gonna you're talking about four quarter games. They're
- 21:37Speaker 11: going to play a four quarter game, and so what
- 21:39Speaker 11: a test for us, especially in a real tough environment.
- 21:42Speaker 12: And so it's gonna take our best, but we're excited
- 21:45Speaker 12: for that challenge.
- 21:46Speaker 4: All right.
- 21:47Speaker 8: That was Dave Randa, head coach of the Baylor Bears.
- 21:50Speaker 8: How much longer he'll be the head coach remains to
- 21:53Speaker 8: be seen. Uh, entering year seven, which I didn't realize
- 21:57Speaker 8: until they said it, and that.
- 21:58Speaker 4: Sound that is insane.
- 22:01Speaker 7: Uh.
- 22:01Speaker 8: He got that job immediately after he was the defensive
- 22:04Speaker 8: coordinator for the twenty nineteen LSU team that won the
- 22:07Speaker 8: national championship, and he's managed to hang on to it
- 22:10Speaker 8: for a long time. Kind of kind of wild. It's
- 22:15Speaker 8: been very up and down in his tenure. I would
- 22:17Speaker 8: say his first season was the COVID year twenty twenty.
- 22:21Speaker 8: They went two and seven. But you know, having your
- 22:24Speaker 8: first year at a school be the COVID year is
- 22:26Speaker 8: just that's unfortunate. You can't really, you know, you can
- 22:29Speaker 8: kind of write that off. That's definitely special. Circumstances, and
- 22:33Speaker 8: especially since in twenty twenty one they came right out
- 22:36Speaker 8: and won the Sugar Bowl, went twelve and two, first
- 22:39Speaker 8: in the Big Twelve. Looked like Baylor was going to
- 22:45Speaker 8: be one of the powerhouses they follow.
- 22:47Speaker 9: That looks like that every year and then we just
- 22:49Speaker 9: know the big point.
- 22:50Speaker 8: They went twelve and two in twenty twenty one, they
- 22:52Speaker 8: barely missed the playoff.
- 22:53Speaker 20: I know, by the.
- 22:54Speaker 4: Skin of teeth.
- 22:55Speaker 9: That's I'm sane. It's always like, oh my gosh, we
- 22:57Speaker 9: get here like and then something happens at the end.
- 22:59Speaker 9: It just makes me so sad.
- 23:00Speaker 8: Well, yeah, because then twenty twenty two, twenty twenty three,
- 23:03Speaker 8: I thought he was gonna get fired. After twenty three
- 23:05Speaker 8: they went three and nine, So back to back losing
- 23:08Speaker 8: seasons six and seven and three and nine and twenty
- 23:11Speaker 8: two and twenty three. Twenty twenty four went eight and five,
- 23:14Speaker 8: solid year, and then this past season went five and seven.
- 23:18Speaker 8: So I think this is definitely if he has another
- 23:22Speaker 8: mediocre year, he's probably done.
- 23:24Speaker 9: Oh hunred percent.
- 23:26Speaker 8: And it's not the easiest schedule. I mean, it's the
- 23:29Speaker 8: Big Twelve, so none of the schedules are that hard.
- 23:31Speaker 8: But starting the year off against Auburn, who is in
- 23:38Speaker 8: the opposite situation, first year under a new coach, Alex
- 23:42Speaker 8: Alex Golish.
- 23:42Speaker 4: I believe South Florida.
- 23:46Speaker 8: That game is in Atlanta on September fifth, so technically
- 23:50Speaker 8: a neutral site game, but you know, George's way closer
- 23:52Speaker 8: to Auburn than it is Waco. And then I think
- 23:57Speaker 8: that's the only real tough non conference game. Big Twelve
- 24:02Speaker 8: does play a nine game conference schedule now, So the
- 24:05Speaker 8: other two non conference for Baylor is Prairie View A
- 24:09Speaker 8: and M and Louisiana Tech. Both of those If if
- 24:13Speaker 8: Randa loses either of those games, then I think you
- 24:16Speaker 8: can just go ahead and assume that he's going to
- 24:18Speaker 8: get fired. So those aren't really going to tell you
- 24:21Speaker 8: anything unless he loses them. But I mean, they'll take
- 24:23Speaker 8: care of business against the bad teams they usually do.
- 24:27Speaker 8: But it's the Big Twelve. Anything could happen. They could
- 24:29Speaker 8: make a run at the title, they could be the
- 24:32Speaker 8: last place team in the conference.
- 24:33Speaker 4: You really never know in this conference. That's the b I've.
- 24:36Speaker 9: Never heard a better description of the Big Twelve than
- 24:39Speaker 9: what you would just say.
- 24:40Speaker 8: The Big Twelve is always the hardest conference to predict
- 24:43Speaker 8: except for now you can now and for the next
- 24:47Speaker 8: you know, probably five to ten years. You can assume
- 24:49Speaker 8: that Texas Tech is going to be in the conversation
- 24:51Speaker 8: for the title just because of the way that the
- 24:55Speaker 8: NIL situation has gone with them. But other than that,
- 25:00Speaker 8: I really don't know who's who else is in the conversation.
- 25:04Speaker 8: Like I think maybe Kansas State, you know, new head coach.
- 25:10Speaker 8: They took our offensive coordinator, calling client, and now he's
- 25:13Speaker 8: the head man at k State, which is where he
- 25:15Speaker 8: started his his playing career and his coaching career. So
- 25:19Speaker 8: you know, when when he got hired there, there were
- 25:22Speaker 8: some people that felt betrayed, but I completely get it.
- 25:24Speaker 4: That's his, that's his that's home for him.
- 25:27Speaker 8: He's the head guy there now, and I think that
- 25:30Speaker 8: that works out best for all parties, because I mean,
- 25:33Speaker 8: he was he was a fine offensive coordinator.
- 25:35Speaker 4: He was fine. I didn't have any issues with him.
- 25:38Speaker 8: I definitely, you know, I mean, you can second guess anybody,
- 25:41Speaker 8: but anyway, I think Kansas State's definitely in the conversation there.
- 25:45Speaker 9: I haven't kept how has recruiting been.
- 25:49Speaker 8: I'm it's hard to judge anything about recruiting in in
- 25:53Speaker 8: the first off season because it's not a full off season,
- 25:58Speaker 8: so I don't really know what it looked like this
- 26:00Speaker 8: year or this past offseason. But this next year is
- 26:04Speaker 8: really what's gonna define whether or not he can recruit
- 26:08Speaker 8: on his own. So a lot of talent in this league.
- 26:14Speaker 8: I'm really excited to see what Connor Wigman does in
- 26:17Speaker 8: his senior season at Houston. I think they could be
- 26:21Speaker 8: in the in the competition for the Big Twelve title.
- 26:25Speaker 8: I like Drew Mestamaker at Oklahoma State that Oklahoma State
- 26:30Speaker 8: might be my biggest, biggest question mark this season in
- 26:35Speaker 8: the Big Twelve because new head coach Eric Morris, coming
- 26:38Speaker 8: over from North Texas, brought his quarterback with him. They
- 26:42Speaker 8: were both great in the American Conference last year.
- 26:46Speaker 4: Will will it translate to the Big Twelve is the
- 26:48Speaker 4: big question.
- 26:50Speaker 8: They were Oklahoma State was so bad last year and
- 26:53Speaker 8: finally decided to end the Mike Gundy era, and he
- 26:55Speaker 8: was one of the longest tenured coaches in the sport.
- 26:59Speaker 8: So it'll be a very different chapter and a new
- 27:02Speaker 8: chapter for the Cowboys. I could see them making a
- 27:06Speaker 8: little noise if it all clicks right away. Usually that's
- 27:10Speaker 8: not how how these things work, but you never know.
- 27:14Speaker 8: And then of course b Yu it's gonna be in
- 27:17Speaker 8: the conversation always. Bear Bachmeyer was one of the most
- 27:23Speaker 8: fun players to watch last season. So I think those
- 27:26Speaker 8: are probably the three. The three teams that I would
- 27:30Speaker 8: say I wouldn't be surprised if they won it won
- 27:34Speaker 8: the conference are definitely Texas Tech BYU and then Houston.
- 27:40Speaker 8: We'll see, We'll see how that goes, but should be
- 27:42Speaker 8: very interesting. To keep up with the Big Twelve is
- 27:44Speaker 8: always fun, especially if if you're not an Aggie fan,
- 27:49Speaker 8: maybe you're maybe you're a fan of one of these
- 27:51Speaker 8: smaller schools, or your team's just not very good this year.
- 27:55Speaker 8: Just watch the Big Twelve and you will stay entertained
- 27:57Speaker 8: throughout the season, I promise, because you don't, No, you
- 28:00Speaker 8: never know what's going to happen week to week. Yeah,
- 28:03Speaker 8: in the now the Monster Energy Big twelve football, so.
- 28:07Speaker 9: Oh god, you know that, you know those commercials are
- 28:10Speaker 9: gonna be over like you're gonna by the time and
- 28:12Speaker 9: get two weak Drea and be like, okay, Monster, we
- 28:14Speaker 9: get it.
- 28:15Speaker 4: Thanks.
- 28:15Speaker 8: I'm interested to see the jersey patches if it's like
- 28:18Speaker 8: a combined Monster Energy Big twelve patch or if it's
- 28:21Speaker 8: two separate patches, because those jerseys are gonna start looking
- 28:24Speaker 8: really busy.
- 28:25Speaker 4: If it's two separate patches.
- 28:27Speaker 9: Yeah, it's gonna look weird.
- 28:28Speaker 4: But a lot to look forward to, lots to get
- 28:32Speaker 4: excited about.
- 28:33Speaker 8: Football season will be here for you know, We've only
- 28:35Speaker 8: got about another month and a half, thank god, so
- 28:39Speaker 8: we're getting close. We're gonna take a break, and when

- 34:03Speaker 8: seven FM. It's always a good day when you can
- 34:07Speaker 8: listen to a little Willy Nelson in the Big twenty
- 34:11Speaker 8: twenty six. Yes, we are still listening to Willy Nelson.
- 34:15Speaker 8: We're gonna talk a little college basketball. I saw an
- 34:18Speaker 8: article on CBS Sports today.
- 34:21Speaker 4: That caught my eye.
- 34:23Speaker 8: I remember seeing this before. I think it was last season,
- 34:28Speaker 8: and the trend has continued to hold up. So there
- 34:31Speaker 8: is a trend that has been holding up since twenty eighteen.
- 34:37Speaker 8: Every college basketball national champion has checked at least one
- 34:42Speaker 8: of these three boxes. They have either number one, enrolled
- 34:49Speaker 8: a top twenty high school recruiting class, enrolled a top
- 34:53Speaker 8: twenty transfer class, or returned their leading scorer. At least
- 34:59Speaker 8: one of those boxes has been checked for each of
- 35:02Speaker 8: the last champions since twenty eighteen, only Villanova in twenty
- 35:07Speaker 8: sixteen and twenty eighteen and the last two teams to
- 35:10Speaker 8: defy this trend. So there are twenty five teams that
- 35:18Speaker 8: meet this criteria this year. None of them fulfill all
- 35:24Speaker 8: three of those, but there are a few teams that
- 35:28Speaker 8: have two of them. So Duke has the number two
- 35:31Speaker 8: recruit high school class, number ten transfer portal class. Louisville
- 35:35Speaker 8: actually has the number one transfer portal class and number
- 35:38Speaker 8: twenty recruiting class in the SEC. You've got Michigan number
- 35:42Speaker 8: fourteen in both high school and transfer portal.
- 35:45Speaker 9: You mean big ten for Michigan.
- 35:47Speaker 4: Did I say Michigan, I met Missouri?
- 35:48Speaker 9: Oh yeah, you said Michigan, Michigan, I.
- 35:51Speaker 8: Say Missouri, Sorry, fourteen and fourteen. Tennessee has the number
- 35:56Speaker 8: two transfer portal and number seventeen high school class. Texas
- 36:01Speaker 8: has the number four transfer portal class, number sixteen high
- 36:03Speaker 8: school recruiting. So definitely this I with these stats. You know,
- 36:10Speaker 8: it doesn't mean, it doesn't really mean that this is
- 36:13Speaker 8: exactly what's gonna happen, but in college basketball, having that
- 36:19Speaker 8: high level talent definitely is does kind of determine how
- 36:23Speaker 8: far you're gonna be able to go, like we always
- 36:26Speaker 8: get with March Madness. We always see those Cinderella stories
- 36:30Speaker 8: that you know, make a run to sometimes even the
- 36:34Speaker 8: final four of the Elite Eight. But you never really
- 36:36Speaker 8: see those mid major teams win just because they're not
- 36:39Speaker 8: as deep as these power conference teams. Pretty Much everybody
- 36:44Speaker 8: on this list of twenty five as a power conference
- 36:46Speaker 8: team except for Saint John's and Villanova, but you know,
- 36:54Speaker 8: those are two basketball powerhouses that are always in the mix.
- 36:58Speaker 8: You know, Like I said, Vilenovo is the only team
- 37:00Speaker 8: not to stick with this trend back in twenty sixteen
- 37:03Speaker 8: and twenty eighteen. So Texas A and m fulfills this
- 37:08Speaker 8: this these criteria. They had the number eleven transfer portal
- 37:12Speaker 8: class this season. And I know we didn't actually bring
- 37:16Speaker 8: back our leading scorer, but we are bringing in the
- 37:20Speaker 8: leading scorer in all of NCAA from last year in PJ.
- 37:23Speaker 4: Haggart.
- 37:23Speaker 9: Isn't that crazy. I'm so excited to watch Lay.
- 37:27Speaker 4: I'm extremely excited to see what he's gonna do.
- 37:29Speaker 8: I think that this Aggie basketball team, Bucky McMillan has
- 37:33Speaker 8: definitely shown that his teams are going to be fun
- 37:37Speaker 8: to watch. And we'll talk about this a little more tomorrow.
- 37:40Speaker 8: In the five o'clock hour, I'll be talking to the
- 37:44Speaker 8: president of the Reid Rowdy Student Organization, day Rendelos Santos,
- 37:48Speaker 8: and we talk about Aggie volleyball and men's basketball. So
- 37:53Speaker 8: that'll be tomorrow evening and we'll talk a little bit
- 37:56Speaker 8: more about Bucky and coach Jamie Morrison as well. But
- 38:00Speaker 8: I'm really excited for this transfer portal class, the number
- 38:04Speaker 8: eleven transfer portal class in the nation. They He's brought
- 38:10Speaker 8: in a lot of high end talent and the first
- 38:13Speaker 8: season under Bucky, I'd say it was a success. You know,
- 38:16Speaker 8: got that one March Madness win over Saint Mary's in
- 38:22Speaker 8: the round of sixty four, did end up getting knocked
- 38:25Speaker 8: out in the next round, but didn't go one and done.
- 38:28Speaker 8: In March Madness, competed very well in the SEC. They
- 38:32Speaker 8: were near the top of the league for most of
- 38:34Speaker 8: the season before, you know, dropping off a little bit
- 38:38Speaker 8: there at the end, but that's to be expected in
- 38:40Speaker 8: a team in its first year under a new coach.
- 38:43Speaker 8: He doesn't he didn't fully have his players in there yet.
- 38:48Speaker 8: And this year, you know, this year the expectations definitely
- 38:52Speaker 8: are going to be higher, There's no doubt about that.
- 38:56Speaker 8: But I think that these these players are gonna be
- 38:59Speaker 8: up to the task. He brought in six new transfers
- 39:03Speaker 8: to the team, did lose three transfers, but the three
- 39:07Speaker 8: transfers that left were Pop Isaacs, Rubin Dimingez, Josh Holloway,
- 39:11Speaker 8: all players that contributed, but also all players that definitely
- 39:16Speaker 8: had their pros and cons. So I think these replacements
- 39:21Speaker 8: for them, I'm really excited about.
- 39:24Speaker 4: It's gonna be very ard at depth.
- 39:26Speaker 9: Like we need to add like Bucky talks, I mean
- 39:28Speaker 9: to add length, we need to add height, and we
- 39:30Speaker 9: need to add younger players. I mean, we had an
- 39:32Speaker 9: older roster, and I'm not taking anything away with older players,
- 39:35Speaker 9: but I feel like with this group, if they stay
- 39:38Speaker 9: for a couple of years, it will be able. He'll
- 39:40Speaker 9: be able to finally build and establish the team he
- 39:42Speaker 9: truly wants here.
- 39:44Speaker 8: Yeah, last year he brought in ten transfers because you know,
- 39:48Speaker 8: there were a lot of holes to Phil. There was
- 39:50Speaker 8: only one scholarship player left on the roster when Bucky
- 39:53Speaker 8: took over last year, Chris McDermott. So guys like Rashaun
- 39:58Speaker 8: ag Ddy Federico, Jakari Lane, Ryland Griffin. We're all towards
- 40:05Speaker 8: the end of their college careers, and that's just you know,
- 40:08Speaker 8: when you come into the game so late, you take
- 40:10Speaker 8: what's left. And I think he did a very job,
- 40:12Speaker 8: a very good job of making the most of what
- 40:15Speaker 8: he had in the twenty five to twenty sixth season.
- 40:18Speaker 9: Oh, I was, I'm not gonna lie to you. I
- 40:20Speaker 9: was very, very impressed with what he did with this
- 40:22Speaker 9: team this past season. I mean, he surpassed almost everybody's
- 40:26Speaker 9: expectations if you're being honest.
- 40:28Speaker 8: Yeah, and last year we didn't really have like a
- 40:31Speaker 8: go to guy. We had a lot of guys that
- 40:33Speaker 8: would be really good second and third options, but we
- 40:36Speaker 8: never really had a number one option. Rashaan Ag was
- 40:39Speaker 8: that tried to be that, and he did a great job.
- 40:42Speaker 8: I think he would be a very very good second
- 40:45Speaker 8: best player on a team, but in the SEC it's
- 40:49Speaker 8: just he's not quite enough to be your best player.
- 40:53Speaker 9: Well it's not even that he didn't have enough people
- 40:54Speaker 9: backing him to give him that option.
- 40:56Speaker 8: That too, but this year he j Haggerty immediately makes
- 41:02Speaker 8: your ceiling so much higher.
- 41:05Speaker 4: Having a guy like that that when you need a bucket,
- 41:09Speaker 4: you know who you're going to give the ball to. Yeah,
- 41:12Speaker 4: and then Jalen Reese as well Bryce and Warren.
- 41:15Speaker 8: If that eligibility requirement ever gets figured out, I think
- 41:18Speaker 8: he'll be really good and once again kind of similar
- 41:23Speaker 8: to last year, they are still gonna We're still gonna
- 41:25Speaker 8: be kind of a smaller team, very guard heavy, so
- 41:31Speaker 8: I think, but that's just I think that's also gonna
- 41:33Speaker 8: be a little bit of how Bucky's teams are. It
- 41:36Speaker 8: seems like as he really likes to have great shooting
- 41:41Speaker 8: is definitely a priority, so it's always going to be
- 41:44Speaker 8: a little guard heavy.
- 41:45Speaker 4: I think next.
- 41:46Speaker 8: Year going and getting a really a good forward is
- 41:52Speaker 8: going to be a priority. But we are kind of
- 41:55Speaker 8: getting a big forward just by getting McKenzie, mackenzie and
- 42:00Speaker 8: Baco back from injury. He will be healthy and ready
- 42:04Speaker 8: to play in the fall, I think, is what Bucky said.
- 42:08Speaker 8: I think he said he's almost back to the one
- 42:10Speaker 8: hundred percent in practice if I remember correctly.
- 42:13Speaker 4: So that's huge.
- 42:15Speaker 8: He showed flashes of what he could do in the
- 42:18Speaker 8: little time that he had with us last year before
- 42:20Speaker 8: going out for the season.
- 42:22Speaker 4: With that injury.
- 42:24Speaker 8: We have Zach Clemens back from last year, the six
- 42:27Speaker 8: to eleven forward, and bringing in Cad Phillips from Tennessee,
- 42:31Speaker 8: a player that Bucky recruited.
- 42:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I think him and Zach will both.
- 42:39Speaker 8: I think they're gonna be kind of the so Clements
- 42:42Speaker 8: and then Jamie Vinson as well and Phillips are all
- 42:45Speaker 8: kind of going to rotate as kind of that second
- 42:49Speaker 8: option for a forward behind Imbacco.
- 42:52Speaker 4: Mbacco is definitely the number one out of that group.
- 42:54Speaker 4: That's what he was.
- 42:57Speaker 8: Meant to be when we picked him up out of
- 42:59Speaker 8: the transferportal last year. But he's also only six foot nine,
- 43:04Speaker 8: so having it well, I mean, I'm being funny.
- 43:07Speaker 4: I just love him.
- 43:07Speaker 9: Say he's only six nine, only fought five and a half.
- 43:10Speaker 9: I'mna be walking by him, staring up and him like, man,
- 43:13Speaker 9: you're a foot and a half taller than me to
- 43:15Speaker 9: press conferences.
- 43:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 43:16Speaker 8: So we've got three players just under six or just
- 43:20Speaker 8: under seven foot Zach Clements, Jamie Vincent, and Josh Irving,
- 43:24Speaker 8: So I think we're probably gonna want to have at
- 43:25Speaker 8: least one of them on the floor at all times.
- 43:30Speaker 8: But I think the average height of the team this
- 43:32Speaker 8: year is gonna be a lot, yeah, a lot taller.
- 43:35Speaker 4: Which is good in the SEC.
- 43:36Speaker 8: That's something that you know, we ran into problems with
- 43:39Speaker 8: Florida and Vanderbilt just because we didn't have the size
- 43:43Speaker 8: to compete with them. I don't think that's gonna be
- 43:45Speaker 8: as big of a problem this year, So I'm really
- 43:49Speaker 8: excited to see what Bucky does. The expectations are gonna
- 43:52Speaker 8: be much higher though. That's that's the biggest difference between
- 43:55Speaker 8: this year and last year. Last year we were not
- 43:58Speaker 8: expecting I mean, we were expected to be one of
- 44:01Speaker 8: the worst teams in the SEC. You know, we were like, Okay,
- 44:05Speaker 8: if we go five hundred, I guess that'll be fine.
- 44:07Speaker 4: He exceeded those expectations by a lot.
- 44:10Speaker 8: But what that means is that now this year, the
- 44:14Speaker 8: expectations are so much higher. The talent level is so
- 44:17Speaker 8: much higher, the ceiling is so much higher. But in
- 44:23Speaker 8: college basketball, anything can happen, So it will be very
- 44:25Speaker 8: interesting to see how they perform this under this pressure.
- 44:29Speaker 8: And it's only year two, but there's definitely a lot
- 44:31Speaker 8: more pressure this year than last season.
- 44:34Speaker 4: But I'm really.
- 44:35Speaker 9: Excited the roster he brought in. I'm not gonna lie
- 44:38Speaker 9: to you and just seeing kind of how Bucky is.
- 44:40Speaker 9: I have never been you y'all know, I'm not the
- 44:43Speaker 9: biggest basketball fan. I have never been more excited for
- 44:45Speaker 9: an Aggie basketball season than I am this upcoming season,
- 44:49Speaker 9: just with the transfers coming in, just with how he's
- 44:53Speaker 9: changing the way this program works, and also just the
- 44:57Speaker 9: I don't know, the different level of skill we kind
- 44:59Speaker 9: of have going into this. Like last year, I was excited,
- 45:02Speaker 9: but I was like, hmm, this manstin we have a
- 45:04Speaker 9: whole entire new roster one players coming back, whereas this
- 45:08Speaker 9: year it's like a few people coming back and we
- 45:11Speaker 9: finally get to see you know, his name just slipped
- 45:13Speaker 9: my mind, finally gets hit the court and play and
- 45:15Speaker 9: you bring in all this stuff, yes, Abacca and then
- 45:17Speaker 9: needs to have all this other talent comings Like, man,
- 45:20Speaker 9: what are we like, what are we truly in for?
- 45:22Speaker 9: What are we going to get to finally see? Like
- 45:24Speaker 9: this is gonna be the A and in basketball, I
- 45:25Speaker 9: think a lot of people are excited to see.
- 45:27Speaker 8: Absolutely, it's gonna be a lot of fun and the
- 45:30Speaker 8: Aggies will get not officially their season, but they will
- 45:34Speaker 8: be playing in the Baja mar Hoops summer League in
- 45:38Speaker 8: the Bahamas in August, so we'll get a little glimpse
- 45:42Speaker 8: into what the team might look like in the actual season.
- 45:45Speaker 8: That's an exhibition summer league over. I think it's just
- 45:49Speaker 8: a weekend in the Bahamas, so that'll be a lot of.
- 45:51Speaker 4: Fun to watch. And then non conference schedule is tough.
- 45:56Speaker 8: We'll get to play TCU, Stanford, I think Oklahoma State,
- 46:00Speaker 8: so definitely going to get tested. But looking forward to
- 46:04Speaker 8: this season, I think it'll definitely be a lot of fun.
- 46:07Speaker 4: We're going to take a break.

- 47:24Speaker 20: giving up two runs in the first, but they battled
- 47:26Speaker 20: back in the second with this.
- 47:28Speaker 1: The one zero swinging a ground ball the other way
- 47:31Speaker 1: past the third baseman Gooseman in the left field, one
- 47:34Speaker 1: run score.
- 47:34Speaker 12: So Soona coming home.

- 47:41Speaker 1: It's a two run base knock and the Rangers have

- 47:46Speaker 20: It was knotted up all the way through the seventh,
- 47:48Speaker 20: but the Rangers put it out of reach with this.
- 47:51Speaker 2: There's a high drive, well hit deep right field that
- 47:54Speaker 2: is way back.

- 49:30Speaker 24: from now Home?
- 49:32Speaker 8: Eleven minutes left in all Willie Wednesday here on the Zone,
- 49:36Speaker 8: Caleb and Riley filling in for Chip on Sports Talk Today.
- 49:41Speaker 8: And we found a lot to talk about here in
- 49:44Speaker 8: the dog days of summer. And we've got one more
- 49:46Speaker 8: segment here for you, and I want to get into
- 49:49Speaker 8: some of the NBA off season. We talked a little
- 49:51Speaker 8: bit of NHL earlier. So the other sport that is
- 49:56Speaker 8: firmly in the off season is the NBA.
- 50:00Speaker 9: Crazy before you get into this, sorry meeting a Brownie,
- 50:04Speaker 9: because they have a summer league that starts right off
- 50:06Speaker 9: the playoffs is over. I never knew this.
- 50:08Speaker 8: Oh really, Noe, Yeah, well, it's the summer league is
- 50:11Speaker 8: usually like guys that are right on the fringe of
- 50:14Speaker 8: the rosters. So rashaan Age who we mentioned earlier, is
- 50:19Speaker 8: going to be playing for the Calves. I think in
- 50:22Speaker 8: the summer league. Wade Taylor is on a roster. I
- 50:25Speaker 8: can't remember where all they are, but a lot of
- 50:28Speaker 8: Ryland Griffin is playing. There are a lot of Aggie's
- 50:32Speaker 8: recent Aggie basketball players that will be taking part in
- 50:35Speaker 8: the NBA Summer League, so it'll.
- 50:37Speaker 4: Be a lot to watch see how they do.
- 50:41Speaker 8: You know, Aggie, There aren't very many Aggie basketball alums
- 50:45Speaker 8: in the NBA, but there definitely are some pretty prominent
- 50:48Speaker 8: ones like Alex Caruso I think is probably the biggest
- 50:51Speaker 8: one right now. DeAndre Jordan back in the twenty tens
- 50:55Speaker 8: was really great for the Clippers in Lob City.
- 50:57Speaker 4: He's still hanging around.
- 50:58Speaker 8: He's a I think he just signed another contract with
- 51:02Speaker 8: the Pelicans, so we'll get to see him play again.
- 51:05Speaker 8: I think it's like his eighteenth or nineteenth season, and
- 51:09Speaker 8: then I believe it's Chris Middleton was also Anaggy. So
- 51:13Speaker 8: there are still a few in the NBA, but I'm
- 51:17Speaker 8: hoping that with Bucky McMillan now, we will see more
- 51:20Speaker 8: and more Aggie's in the NBA. I hope it's a
- 51:23Speaker 8: little better represented. But NBA free agency is, you know,
- 51:29Speaker 8: officially underway. There have been some interesting moves. There have
- 51:35Speaker 8: been some interesting trades, as well, still some big names
- 51:41Speaker 8: on the market. Obviously, Lebron James has announced I think
- 51:46Speaker 8: it was last week that he will not be returning
- 51:48Speaker 8: to Los Angeles this season, and that there have been
- 51:53Speaker 8: there's been a lot of speculation about some different landing
- 51:56Speaker 8: spots that he could go to. I really think that
- 52:00Speaker 8: it probably will just end up being back in Cleveland,
- 52:04Speaker 8: just because a lot of the other places that have
- 52:08Speaker 8: been named they just don't really make sense. Like going
- 52:12Speaker 8: back to Miami right now wouldn't really, that'd be that
- 52:15Speaker 8: one would be the weirdest, honestly, Like as far as
- 52:17Speaker 8: fit goes, they just with the heat just trading for Jannie,
- 52:23Speaker 8: They're gonna have Jannis and Bam are there. That's their
- 52:27Speaker 8: dynamic duo right now, and they're they're kind of lacking
- 52:29Speaker 8: in guard play. So bringing in Lebron, yeah, he wouldn't
- 52:32Speaker 8: have to blame the post at all, but you still
- 52:35Speaker 8: don't really have any shooters.
- 52:36Speaker 9: He just needs to retire. I said it, I'll say it,
- 52:40Speaker 9: I'll say crazy. He just needs to retire because I'm sorry,
- 52:43Speaker 9: great player, this, that and the other. But there gets
- 52:46Speaker 9: to a point where this drama is not necessary. We
- 52:50Speaker 9: all know that he's only gonna be playing for a couple,
- 52:52Speaker 9: maybe one or two more years even that, and on
- 52:55Speaker 9: top of that, it's a waste of a contract and
- 52:57Speaker 9: money and potential for another player just and kind of
- 53:00Speaker 9: get his run going. He's just taking a roster spot
- 53:03Speaker 9: just because he can.
- 53:05Speaker 8: Okay, a lot of what you said is valid, but
- 53:08Speaker 8: I will push back a little bit. He did average
- 53:10Speaker 8: twenty one points per game, seven assists, and six rebounds
- 53:14Speaker 8: in the games that he played for.
- 53:14Speaker 13: Oh.
- 53:15Speaker 9: I'm not saying he's still not a great player. I'm
- 53:16Speaker 9: just saying it's time to move on.
- 53:18Speaker 8: Okay, that's fair. I mean this would be his twenty
- 53:21Speaker 8: second season I think in the NBA.
- 53:23Speaker 9: Oh I thought, okay, maybe wait how old is he
- 53:26Speaker 9: you guys tell me age.
- 53:28Speaker 4: Forty two?
- 53:30Speaker 9: Okay, he needs to move on. He's like, I'm sorry,
- 53:32Speaker 9: and I'll say, like this, Tom Brady agoat amazing football player,
- 53:35Speaker 9: but it was time for him.
- 53:36Speaker 13: To move on.
- 53:37Speaker 4: It's forty one.
- 53:38Speaker 9: It's when you hit a certain age and this is
- 53:41Speaker 9: nothing against you, as like, it's time to move on,
- 53:44Speaker 9: focus on family, start doing things like that, and stop
- 53:47Speaker 9: worrying only about your career. It's time for family and
- 53:49Speaker 9: he's at that point where it's time for family.
- 53:52Speaker 4: Hey, he played with his son on the Lakers.
- 53:55Speaker 9: I don't care, the same son that had a heart
- 53:58Speaker 9: attack from doing drugs, but they covered up hot.
- 54:02Speaker 8: That's a rabbit hole there. I don't know if we
- 54:04Speaker 8: need to go down that one. But anyway, I'm sorry.
- 54:09Speaker 8: We could go down the rabbit hole, but I don't
- 54:12Speaker 8: know if that's the best place to go with only
- 54:15Speaker 8: six minutes left in the show here anyway, So Lebron,
- 54:20Speaker 8: I think the main landing spots right now are Cleveland, Miami,
- 54:23Speaker 8: and Philly. I think it probably will be Cleveland, and
- 54:27Speaker 8: that would that would be the easiest way to.
- 54:30Speaker 4: Wrap up the career. I think back where it started.
- 54:33Speaker 9: I think that would actually be kind of cool.
- 54:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that would be the best for all
- 54:38Speaker 4: parties involved.
- 54:41Speaker 8: So we'll see. Let's see James Harden. Speaking of Cleveland,
- 54:46Speaker 8: he will probably be leaving the Cabs. He declined his
- 54:49Speaker 8: player option, so I would imagine he's not going to
- 54:52Speaker 8: come back.
- 54:53Speaker 4: He's also getting up there in age.
- 54:54Speaker 8: He's thirty six, but still average twenty three point six
- 54:57Speaker 8: points per game last year, choked in the playoff once again.
- 55:00Speaker 8: But you know what, you're signing up for if you
- 55:03Speaker 8: bring James Harden onto your team. Jalen Brown going to
- 55:09Speaker 8: the seventy six Ers, Like, it's been a while a
- 55:11Speaker 8: little while now, we've had some time to think about it,
- 55:13Speaker 8: but it still just does not make any sense that
- 55:16Speaker 8: the Sixers gave him up for Paul George and two
- 55:20Speaker 8: first round picks.
- 55:21Speaker 4: Like, I still don't understand that move.
- 55:23Speaker 8: That's it's not as bad as the Luca Dashas trade,
- 55:29Speaker 8: but it's it's not good. It's up there. It's definitely
- 55:33Speaker 8: up there. Jalen Brown is not Luca, but Paul George
- 55:37Speaker 8: also is an eighty, So I don't know. I think
- 55:41Speaker 8: the Sixers are probably the favorite in the East now
- 55:44Speaker 8: because of that move. I mean they got Joel Embiid
- 55:46Speaker 8: Jalen Brown. I mean just those two right there, that's
- 55:50Speaker 8: two of the biggest stars in the league.
- 55:53Speaker 4: And then VJ.
- 55:54Speaker 8: Edgecombe going into a sophomore season Tyrese Maxey. That's gonna
- 55:59Speaker 8: be a really, really solid team, but.
- 56:04Speaker 4: A lot a lot more moves to come.
- 56:06Speaker 8: The Rockets have been fairly active, bringing in Marcus Smart,
- 56:12Speaker 8: re signing Tarry Eesen, trading away Dorian Finney Smith to
- 56:18Speaker 8: free up a roster spot. They literally got nothing. That's
- 56:22Speaker 8: one of the funniest things about just salary dumps. The
- 56:26Speaker 8: Rockets literally traded him to the Hornets and gave them
- 56:31Speaker 8: two second round picks just to get rid of him,
- 56:33Speaker 8: like they all they got back. I don't even know
- 56:36Speaker 8: that they actually gotten anything back. I think they basically
- 56:40Speaker 8: just cleared his contracts. They were like, all right, we'll
- 56:41Speaker 8: take his contract, you give us two second round picks.
- 56:44Speaker 4: Cool.
- 56:45Speaker 8: So trades like that always baffle me. We're about out
- 56:49Speaker 8: of time here. We're gonna take one more break and
- 56:51Speaker 8: then we'll be back to wrap it up. You're listening
- 56:52Speaker 8: to Chip Howard Sports Talk here on the Zone.
